- 0:00The following program is produced by the tech Talk Radio Network. Hey, this
- 0:03is Hayl Parano and you listen to the geeks on the radio tech Talk Radio.
- 0:07Welcome to that episode of tech Talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor, I'm
- 0:11Seanda Weird, and I'm justin Lemmey. How you guys doing busy? Yeah?
- 0:16Basketball, basketball, basketball, there's a basketball game going on. It's
- 0:19the NCAA tournament. You know they call the Marning with the whole bracket stuff.
- 0:24We just we hosted the first round of the women's tournament on campus.
- 0:28So it was busy in this past week. It's a lot of work for
- 0:30us, but it's a lot of fun too, right, It's right,
- 0:33it's just an extension of the basketball season into the rest of spring sports.
- 0:36I did a bracket. I think it was like twenty minutes before the brackets
- 0:39closed. I don't follow NC Double. I'm not like a super NC doublea
- 0:43fan, right, but I was just like, oh, there's I can
- 0:46do a bracket, Okay, So I went to the bracket thing and I
- 0:48just clicked auto pick great, right, and then I just locked it in
- 0:52and it got busted the first day. That's the way it works. So
- 0:56brackets aside. You know, it's exciting when you're in a university town like
- 1:00US here, you know, with the u of A and the Wildcats.
- 1:03But justin you've got Denver Sean, you're in Indiana. What's the what's the
- 1:07big team? Theredue produce really good right now? So right they're ragged number
- 1:12one of the countries by Areadue. Purdue. Where is Purdueyette, Indiana Lafayette?
- 1:18Oh it is Yeah. Oh I thought Purdue was like in like New
- 1:22York or something. No. No, my late stepdad went to Purdue.
- 1:25Yeah. And I got to tell you a lot of excitement over last week's
- 1:29show talking about BUCkies. And it's funny because you know, we can have
- 1:33what it takes. We can have the coolest tech gear in the world that
- 1:37we could show. We can have something, Brandon, We've been lucky,
- 1:40you know, friends at ACE who's been sending us stuff before it's you know,
- 1:42even been released. No, people want to know about BUCkies. We
- 1:47should do a live show from a BUCkies. I'm thinking of that when they
- 1:49opened them up here. Yeah, come on to Colorado. My mom was
- 1:53stoked that we talked about BUCkies on the show. Really I was like,
- 1:57I should I showed the little blushy that she got for Max, and she
- 2:00was all about it. What was what was funny? Is? Okay?
- 2:04So we in setting up and if you haven't seen it yet, you can
- 2:07go to our website tech talk radio dot com. You could see our link
- 2:09for you to listen to that show. We'd love you to listen to it
- 2:13if you haven't listened to it yet. But you guys were gonna send me
- 2:15pictures Number one, justin wearing his Bucky shirt and Bucky sweater. You went
- 2:22all out. And then Sean with his Bucky itself the mascot, and you
- 2:28never did. So I was like, well, let's let's have some fun
- 2:31with Dally. So I was I was going on to Daly and I was
- 2:36just I was typing just different prompts with Dally the AI generator to create an
- 2:40image of a guy enjoying himself in BUCkies, right, And I mean some
- 2:46of the stuff it was created was hilarious. But we finally found one like
- 2:50outside of BUCkies and it was created all you know AI and by Daly.
- 2:55And then I took all photos of us. I took a photo of you
- 3:00which originally is the picture of you with most Is it Mo from The Simpsons
- 3:05at most Hevern? Oh, that's right over at Universal Studios, Hollywood,
- 3:08hanging out with a BUCkies character. Oh my gosh, that was originally that
- 3:13was originally indoors, and I photoshopped it and put it out doors and then
- 3:16it stuck me in the corner. And then Sean, it's like a picture
- 3:19of you from like I don't know, like ten years ago. No I
- 3:23picted that picture was Justin's actually in that picture with me. It's just cropped
- 3:25out, just the picture of him and I and dark helmet at Comic Con.
- 3:32Anyway, here, it's weird that you could see like a half a
- 3:35picture and know exactly what it was taking of you, right, like,
- 3:38oh, that's me from you know, July twenty first, twenty thirteen in
- 3:42San Diego. Oh bad, I love that. Wow, that was a
- 3:45lot of fun to put together. But yeah, if you haven't listened to
- 3:46that show, please tune in now. One of the things from last week
- 3:51that we do Justin was going to be getting. It's made me and Sean
- 3:54just a little bit jealous. He's going to be getting the valve, the
- 4:00deck, that stream deck, not the stream deck. The stream deck,
- 4:05the steam Deck. And you got it in today, as a matter of
- 4:10fact, I did. I got it today. Now, if you don't
- 4:13know what a steam deck is, it is a handheld PC. Does it
- 4:17run like you know, like the one from Ace whos runs Windows eleven?
- 4:21Does this run OS like that? Well no, it's it's a Linux based
- 4:27OS and it runs They call it Steam OS, but it truly just runs
- 4:32a version of Linux. And I can't remember off the top of my head
- 4:38what, uh what the version of Linux it runs, but it does run
- 4:41a Linux. You can actually go to the Linux desktop and you can browse
- 4:45around a Linux desktop just like you would a Windows desktop. But for the
- 4:47most part, uh, it runs Steam OS, which is an overlay on
- 4:51top of the Linux desktop, and you can basically play any of your PC
- 4:57games on from Steam on this. And the screen is massive. I mean,
- 5:03this is a seven point four inch screen. It's an O lead so
- 5:06the colors and just pop. I mean, the quality of the screen is
- 5:12amazing. And the biggest part about it is for as big as this thing
- 5:15is, this thing is light, right, I mean this is about as
- 5:19he maybe just a tiny bit heavier than a Nintendo Switch and it's twice the
- 5:25size, and you've got the controllers right there on the grips on the actual
- 5:30unit itself. Yeah. Now they do not have removable controllers like the Lenovo
- 5:34does. The new Lenovo or the Nintendo Switch does not have removable controllers.
- 5:40But honestly, you don't need that. I mean, this is amazing.
- 5:44It's got ninety ninety hertz refresh rate. It's got about a five hour battery
- 5:51life, which is better than the original Steam Deck. I think the original
- 5:55Steam Deck is like three and a half hours for but it's also got a
- 5:58faster processor, o led screen seven point four inch screen versus a seven point
- 6:03zero inch screen on the original. But yeah, it's it's really cool.
- 6:10I'm actually just kind of in the process of setting up right now. I
- 6:13did purchase the new South Park game that just came out as of this recording
- 6:18on Tuesday. It's called south Park snow Day. This is the third game
- 6:23in the franchise of South Park. So it's like an action RPG, turn
- 6:28based RPG, but it is set in the world of south Park, and
- 6:31the actual guys Trey and Matt actually record the voices. Oh wow, it
- 6:36is absolutely not for children because unlike TV, they can actually swear in the
- 6:43video game, and boy, howdy do they? Yeah? But yeah,
- 6:48So I've been playing some Powerwash Simulator, which is an amazing relaxing game.
- 6:53It's literally just powerwashing things, playing some Balder's Gate, Rocket Lee League,
- 7:00South Park, snow Day Planet, Crafter, Project Zomboid, you know,
- 7:05just games all over the place. And this thing is amazing because I can
- 7:10just sit on the couch and play and I can just put it down.
- 7:12I don't have to get my big old laptop out, plug it into the
- 7:15you know outlet, and get the mouse and keyboard out. No, no,
- 7:19this thing handheld, take it anywhere, play it. It's amazing.
- 7:23I've heard a lot of great things from other people besides you that have a
- 7:26Steam Deck that just love it. They've even there are ways you can even
- 7:30play a World of Warcraft on it in other games too, So there are
- 7:32a lot of people that are like, give us mobile the Warcraft, give
- 7:36us other games. I've been support it. Well, you don't even need
- 7:39to do that, like honestly with with World of Warcraft. You So,
- 7:43here's the cool thing about the Steam Deck. It is Linux based you can
- 7:46mod it, not even modit really, you can put u there's a couple
- 7:49of little downloadable programs you can put on there. On the desktop version side
- 7:53of it, you can actually get a m you deck, which is an
- 7:57emulator that can give you any game in the past, like I'm talking game
- 8:01Boy through game Boy Advance through three DS, through GameCube, Nintendo, Nintendo
- 8:07sixty four, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, PlayStation PlayStation two, PlayStation three,
- 8:13PlayStation four. You can get any game as long as you know where to
- 8:16get the games. Obviously, these are just emulator programs, right, you
- 8:20have to know where to go, and we're not going to talk about that.
- 8:24Yeah, it's kind of like when Rom's, you know, we're the
- 8:26big thing and you can play you know, some of your old it's the
- 8:30same thing. Yeah, your old S sne S games on your PC.
- 8:33But not only that, you can actually get the Epic Launcher. You can
- 8:37get the Blizzard Launcher so you can play World of Warcraft. You could literally
- 8:41get the Blizzard Launcher on here and play World of Warcraft. I always worry
- 8:46when it's something portable you're carrying it, you know, I'm one of those
- 8:50guys that I always get the insurance on my smartphone. You know, when
- 8:54I have a smartphone, what type of warranty have you looked into that yet?
- 8:58As what type of warrants available? And you know what happens if you
- 9:03break it? I know that I fix it is one of the companies that
- 9:05has said, you know, hey, a right to fix and they've made
- 9:09certain parts available. That's actually a good question. I have not looked into
- 9:11that. I mean, I've got an armored case on here that actually I
- 9:16just put an armored case on the back of it, so that'll protect this.
- 9:18And also it does raise up along the screen, so if I were
- 9:22to drop it flat on the screen, first off, the joysticks would break
- 9:26first, but then the thing it should be somewhat protected. I do not
- 9:31have an actual screen protector on here, but I do have my mind does
- 9:35come with a front cover on the case that I can put over it to
- 9:39protect it when I'm traveling. But this thing was five hundred and five hundred,
- 9:43let's say, let's just call it six hundred even I don't know.
- 9:48I don't know if it's worth me to put out in like an insurance quote
- 9:52on this, Like I don't know I'll pay like three four dollars a month,
- 9:56you know, for insurance on it. I don't know. I kind
- 9:58of wonder if a surian does something like that. Yeah, so Andy,
- 10:01you mentioned repair ability, Yeah, just a minute ago. I fix it
- 10:07has a Steam Deck Parts OEM replacement page, so you can get OEM parts
- 10:13from Steam. Oh. There, I fix it, And they've got a
- 10:16whole list of I mean the adhesives, batteries, buttons, cables, case
- 10:20components, fans. He'd says, joysticks, powered after screens, all right
- 10:24here, and I fix it with the guys and how to replace it.
- 10:28I do know for a fact that Steam or Valve, excuse me, Valve
- 10:31is the company. I do know that Valve allows you to open up the
- 10:35steam Deck without voiding the warranty, and in fact, they encourage it.
- 10:39So I bought the five hundred and twelve gigabyte model. They send along a
- 10:43link to a video on YouTube on how to open up the steam Deck and
- 10:46upgrade it to a one terabyte if I wanted to do. That's phenomenal.
- 10:50I like that. But I can also put a I'm going to get an
- 10:54SD card. It does come with an ST slot, so I can get
- 10:56an SD card. But if I really wanted to, I could. Actually
- 11:00there's a you can. You can get this ENVM with a special like docking
- 11:05cable like it like it's a dock right and it goes to USB. You
- 11:09would plug the blank en VME into the Steam deck format it, transfer all
- 11:15of your content over to that new drive and unplug it, open up the
- 11:18deck, take out the old drive and put this new one in and it
- 11:22would boot up as if it was brand new again with with all your stuff
- 11:24on there. How about latency? You know, say you're you're you've just
- 11:30got out of a meeting. You don't have to do anything for another half
- 11:33an hour, so you sit at your desk. You want to fire it
- 11:35up? Are you talking about a long time to boot the thing up and
- 11:37get going it instantaneously? Uh, I'll turn it on right now and bam,
- 11:43I'm already at the nesk top. Two seconds and didunch power sim power
- 11:48wash simulator? Let's count that right there? One? Two, three,
- 11:54four five? There you go, there we go six seconds? Bam?
- 11:58Did uh did it come with any titles? I mean, you drop a
- 12:01lot of money on this and your Steam library. It connects to your Steam
- 12:05What if you've never played anything on Steam. No, it doesn't come go
- 12:11buy a bazillion free Steam games and play them. Are there free Steam games?
- 12:16There are so many free Steam games out there that are so much fun
- 12:18to play, and I can't speak to the quality of those, But there's
- 12:22also a lot of actual games that are decent that are not that expensive.
- 12:26I mean so, as a matter of fact, my mom was just visiting
- 12:28here last week, we talked about this last week my mom was visiting.
- 12:31I told her that I bought this thing and I was looking for some way
- 12:35to I can just sit on the couch and play. And she's like,
- 12:37you know, I used to be a gamer, and in fact, she
- 12:39used to she used to be on Xbox. Her gamer tag on Xbox is
- 12:43Granny Gunsmith. Seriously, that's her gamertag. I mean, she's really good
- 12:50at that. But she's getting older, you know, she's almost seventy,
- 12:52and she's like, you know, I just want something I can just sit
- 12:54and play. And I'm like, get a Steam deck. They're amazing.
- 12:58She literally went and bought a Steam deck. Really yeah, and hers will
- 13:01be delivered. HER's is going to be delivered in about three days. My
- 13:05mom when she was with us, she used to play the casino games,
- 13:09and I'm wondering this would have been this would have been great for that if
- 13:13they have those type of games on there. Yeah, I mean, you
- 13:15know, just kind of the you don't really really bet money. But she
- 13:20used to love go to the casinos, so that would have been something she
- 13:22would have really loved. Absolutely. Yeah. Now, if you want to
- 13:24see a full list of the available games, you don't have a Steam account?
- 13:28Does it cost you anything to create one? No, the Steam accounts
- 13:31are free. You can go to steampowered dot com and you can sign up
- 13:37for a free account. Doesn't cost you anything. You can look through all
- 13:41the games. There are hundreds of thousands of games on Steam. You can
- 13:45buy them for like anywhere from a dollar or like Sean said, there's some
- 13:50for free. You can buy them for anywhere from a dollar all the way
- 13:52up to you know, one hundred dollars, depends on the game you want
- 13:54to buy. Now, I am traditionally a gamer that was mouse and keyboard,
- 14:00all right, So always doing mouse and keyboard? Would I get used?
- 14:03Would I get used to? You can actually hook one up to that.
- 14:05You can you can actually hook a bluetooth mouse and keyboard or a wired
- 14:09mouse and keyboard if you really want, because it's got a dock on the
- 14:11back where a stand where I can set it up on the counter and then
- 14:15have a like a portable mouse and keyboard and play on there. But yes,
- 14:18wow, answer your question, it's really not that difficult. I mean,
- 14:22if you've ever played a console game, it might take you a little
- 14:26bit of getting used to, but honestly it's not that much. Sean this
- 14:30making you want to get one? Are you shopping right now? No?
- 14:35I don't have time. I can't play regular video games right now. Maybe
- 14:39in a deck. Maybe in a decade, I'll get Max one for his
- 14:41birthday. There you go, that'll be a good excuse Steam Deck three,
- 14:46yeah, or whatever, switch VR? Who knows? Whatever's you know?
- 14:50Who knows what the world of gaming or the world of computing is going to
- 14:52be like when Max is ten? Right? Right? Eight years? What
- 14:58is the world of technology can to look like? Now? Is this is
- 15:01this something you would get at best Buy or you go online to buy it,
- 15:05or where is the best way to get this? Well? I actually
- 15:07just got mine straight from steampower dot com. Well, I mean I have
- 15:11a Steam account. So I just opened up the Steam app and there's a
- 15:13section in there for you know, buying the Steam Deck, and bam,
- 15:16I just bought it. Do not buy it from Amazon because those are coming
- 15:20from resellers and they're marking up the price. Just go to steam powered dot
- 15:26com and you can buy the steam Deck. Very cool. Another big announcement
- 15:30this week, uh, and Wise was teasing it. That's Wyze. They
- 15:35were teasing that they had some big announcement that was going to be coming.
- 15:39I'll be honest with you. From what it looked like to me was that
- 15:41Wise was actually going to be putting out a gaming chair, don't. I
- 15:46don't know why. It just their ad. That's what it kind of looked
- 15:48like to me. And now we find out it's just another camera. I
- 15:52mean, it wouldn't be the first radical shift they've had. I mean,
- 15:56they put a gun safe. No they did not, did they? Really?
- 16:00They have a four digit fingerprints gun safe. There is no way in
- 16:07heck I'm gonna trust a gun safe to lies. Absolutely not, absolutely not.
- 16:11They've launched a new camera. It's got some neat features on it,
- 16:15but really, the way they have handled the security situations over the past couple
- 16:21of years, and they were getting raked over the coals, like some of
- 16:25the tech sites that were out there saying, hey, they've put out a
- 16:27great new camera, but would you trust it and that, I mean that's
- 16:30a big question. Yeah, I mean for the price, Yeah, I'm
- 16:34gonna buy one. I bought one. I bought the four gen just to
- 16:37see how it compares the other ones. I don't do as much in the
- 16:41cloud with it as most people probably do for their own home security stuff.
- 16:44Right, I'm not doing as much. Right, I'm not using the web
- 16:47page, I'm not doing all that stuff. But yeah, it kind of
- 16:49stinks when they have a major security breach and they don't make it public immediately.
- 16:56And that's not the first time they've done it. Right, they had
- 16:59the issue with the view the version one, and they actually disabled the firmware
- 17:03on those. You can't even upgrade the firmware on those, and they basically
- 17:07have blacklisted those from the app itself because they're so vulnerable. And then they
- 17:12had the issue and it's it's is it an Amazon issue where because they use
- 17:18Amazon storage for all their stuff, and you know, they had some issues
- 17:23where they were having some caching issues where if you logged into the website,
- 17:27you might be viewing somebody else's cameras. All all of the ident all of
- 17:33the identifying stuff, all of the alerts, all of the AI all gets
- 17:37processed in the cloud. Right, So if somebody rings my doorbell, goes
- 17:41to the cloud then comes to me. So there's a lot of people that
- 17:45have don't like that, and that's that's okay. Go with ubiquity, or
- 17:49go with a different service that goes directly to a NASS storage or or on
- 17:53prem storage. That's fine. You are paying for what you get. People
- 17:57have to go in understanding that you are paid for the product you get.
- 18:02You're paying for them to take your data and aggregate it and use it against
- 18:06you or for you in whatever way that works in their benefit. Right,
- 18:11But you get a cheap product. And again, this camera, the camera
- 18:14from Wise is about one hundred dollars cheaper than some of the other cameras that
- 18:18are on the market. Yeah, you cannot beat this product for its price.
- 18:22You can't. It's twenty nine ninety nine for the camera. Yeah,
- 18:26you can't go anywhere else and find another security camera for this quality for this
- 18:32price. Now speaking of the quality, what what are some of the features
- 18:34they've enhanced in this what they're calling wise for So they went from like a
- 18:41two point they upgraded to two K with the version three. I think they
- 18:45increased the sensor size because they say it's a larger, it's better quality,
- 18:51two and a half k qHD quad high definition clarity whatever that means. You
- 18:56get colored night vision instead of the regular you know, the IR night vision
- 19:00and it's it's color IR night vision. They're saying it has enhanced you know,
- 19:07if you push the button on your phone, you can talk through your
- 19:08camera, like if somebody drop it off a package, you say, hey,
- 19:11please leave it by the door or I don't want to sign for it.
- 19:15A higher allumin spotlight on it so that if it triggers motion, it'll
- 19:18turn the spotlight on it. It's integrated into this one. A new feature
- 19:23they added to this camera is you can do twenty four to seven recording now
- 19:29locally on the camera, so you can record things locally to the camera,
- 19:33not to the it'll record just to the camera, or push both to the
- 19:37cloud, or you can just do the cloud like you normally would, but
- 19:40you have the option to just record to the camera and not to the cloud
- 19:42at all. So that's new. That's new for this version, which I
- 19:47think has been a huge community request. Please give us the option to record
- 19:52on prem versus in the cloud, so I can have access to it immediately
- 19:56at a higher quality, because the quality you get from the cloud downloading it
- 20:00back from the cloud is poorer. Now you've been able to record also to
- 20:06your memory cards before, but there's been some restrictions involved. I don't remember
- 20:10exactly. I don't really use that function. But it's rated IP sixty five
- 20:17weatherproof, so indoor outdoor doesn't matter, it's going to be weather's resistant.
- 20:23It's got some sticky mouths, magnetic mounting options, and it also supports Wi
- 20:29Fi six. Oh that's good. Some some some some better range options.
- 20:33You can get a little further away, some some some better connectivity options.
- 20:37So I don't know, you know, for for that price, for twenty
- 20:40nine dollars, I mean, that's a tough one to be and you're if
- 20:44you already have the Wise interface and you're already you know, got the camera
- 20:48Wise cameras, that might be might be okay to to to give that a
- 20:52try. I'm wondering I would work with the same base station or does it
- 20:55tie into the actual net. So the the only ones that work with the
- 21:00base station are the outdoor camps right right, the regular Wise the regular version
- 21:06two and up work just they just connect to your Wi Fi. There's no
- 21:10base station involved. Then what was the whole purpose of this base station?
- 21:12You know, like they you know, they touted what two three years ago
- 21:17where it's like, you have to have the base station, we are not
- 21:19gonna do Wi Fi cameras, you have to have the bay station. Yeah,
- 21:23and you were still they were still using Wi Fi to connect to the
- 21:26base station. Yeah, and then the base station. Yeah, it was
- 21:29it was kind of strange. Gosh darn it. If this was back in
- 21:32twenty eighteen, twenty nineteen, I'd be all over this, right. I
- 21:36know, it's dirt cheap cameras and they just work. But like Sean had
- 21:40just mentioned, you know at what cost you might be viewing some other people's
- 21:44cameras from random time to time so often. This is just this is just
- 21:48not something that I would trust to a company like this anymore. And yes,
- 21:51I still do have Wise cams. I cannot wait for the day that
- 21:53I have enough money to replace all of them. Yeah, and there are
- 21:57a lot better options for a little of a higher price. And most of
- 22:02them, there are, most of them are wired, which you know,
- 22:04it eliminates the necessity for Wi Fi, which could be a bonus for security.
- 22:11But yeah, you just you're paying for what you get and if you
- 22:15want to pay less, that's a decision you have to make. Well,
- 22:18hopefully it won't get to that. Yeah, all right. I want to
- 22:22remind everybody that Sunday is not only is it Easter tomorrow, but it's also
- 22:26World Backup Day. But World Backup Day is the day to protect your data,
- 22:33whether you're protecting your data on a Mac, PC, Linux box or
- 22:37even your smartphone. People forget about the smartphone. There there's nothing worse than
- 22:45I mean, yeah, if you're using the cloud, or if you're using
- 22:47an Android service and you're uploading your your photos when you take them, you
- 22:52know, through Google Photos or whatnot. But if you lost your smartphone,
- 22:56uh, that's it. So it's good to get in the regular habit of
- 22:59backing up. I want to remind everybody for the Android devices and the iOS
- 23:04devices, the iPhones, there is a really great device by sand Disk called
- 23:07the I expand Drive, and I bought one of these and I love it.
- 23:12You plug it into your phone, whether it be a USB C device
- 23:18or the Lightning jeck that's on your your iPhone, and it runs a program
- 23:22that you download the app and it will back up to this to this drive.
- 23:26Then you can take that drive and you can plug it into your computer
- 23:30or just put it away safely. You can delete the photos that are on
- 23:33your smartphone. But again, it's a nice way to back up. Now.
- 23:37I've had people ask us before and well, I think we've we've talked
- 23:40about this. What do you recommend for backup software? There's different choices that
- 23:45are out there. Do you have a you have a preference? Well,
- 23:48you've got us Acronus before, and that's what I've to use. Yeah,
- 23:52and that's what I've used in the industry at Fox and a couple of other
- 23:55tribute stations. Is Acronus was the kind of the the tons back as is
- 24:00justin will understand. They ran a Ton's back up every day and they ran
- 24:04on Acronis at my station at least. And then I use backwlays for personal
- 24:11cloud backup for my PC, which is relatively inexpensive, and I'm even looking
- 24:15at it to migrate my my NAS to backways for a relatively small fee,
- 24:22also because it'll they support the backup of NAS systems also. So that's right.
- 24:26Both of you have Synologies, right I do? Yes, you do.
- 24:30You don't use it? Well, no, I mean I got I
- 24:33got on my important stuff on a Snology, honestly, I mean what as
- 24:38on my local PC? If my OS? I mean I have my OS
- 24:42on a separate drive than everything else. So if my OS died, oh
- 24:47well, get a new drive and put it back on. It's not a
- 24:49big deal because I have nothing of importance on there. If my backup drive
- 24:56that's on my local PC died, oh well, it's on my Snology.
- 25:00If my other backup drive died, oh well, it's on my snology right
- 25:06now. If my sonology died, which shouldn't happen because I've got a five
- 25:10base, I've got a RAID six going on. You got redundancy, I've
- 25:14got redundancy. So if I get one drive that fails, yeah, of
- 25:17course I'm gonna stop it and replace that drive and keep that stuff. But
- 25:21I personally don't use like a daily backup like a Kronus. But again,
- 25:26I have a much more robust infrastructure than you know, sixty percent of the
- 25:30people out there. I will tell you of a program I found called ease
- 25:36US or ease US. Oh yeah, easy US, I use it.
- 25:37Yeah. I was pretty impressed because, well I found they have a backup
- 25:42solution, and the nice thing it's free. If you want to back up,
- 25:48you know, to a drive, you could do that, and they
- 25:49have a free option for you to do that. If you want to pay
- 25:52for it, you get a nine thirty nine dollars a year you can do
- 25:56that, and you can get I believe two hundred and fifty gigabyte to cloud
- 26:00storage, or you could pay seventy nine dollars to get a lifetime for the
- 26:04lifetime of the product, which is not bad. Some people have asked,
- 26:08if you're doing a cloud backup, do you back up everything to the cloud
- 26:12first, then just back up changes or can you back up everything to another
- 26:18drive and then just backup changes you've made to that drive since then? Either
- 26:23either or right, Yeah, it's either or you can you can set it
- 26:26up to do just one drive, your whole computer, your whole mac a
- 26:30single drive it depends on how much you know. There's different cost structures for
- 26:34each each of those options. So if there was one tip you could share
- 26:38with anybody about backing up, what would what would you share with somebody?
- 26:42Mine would be back up your smartphones. Don't forget that. Do it like
- 26:47you don't? Don't. I've had several of my personal friends come to me
- 26:52and say, all of my photos were on this one hard drive and it
- 26:56won't boot any are, it won't plug in, it doesn't work anymore.
- 27:00Well, okay, Well you have a couple options. Send it in for
- 27:03a professional repair, right or pull from a backup. I didn't back it
- 27:07up. Well, I don't know what to tell you. Then. The
- 27:11rule of the rule thumb for most professional cases are a on prem storage,
- 27:19a hot storage meaning it's your active computer, and then a cloud storage.
- 27:25So on prem hot storage or on prem cold storage cloud storage things that you
- 27:30should do. I mean, I agree with Sean, obviously, just do
- 27:36it. But when it comes to your smartphone, as you mentioned, I
- 27:38mean, I've got a Google phone, so honestly, my entire phone is
- 27:44already backed up to Google by default. So if I were to get a
- 27:47new phone tomorrow as long as it's an Android, I could just sign into
- 27:51my Google account and everything is restored back to the phone when it comes from
- 27:56home storage. Yeah, I mean again, I've I've got a son knowledge.
- 28:00It's great. Just if anything, even if you just want to keep
- 28:03it simple, just buy yourself an external drive, plug it into your computer
- 28:08and copy, not move, but copy your important documents, photos and whatever
- 28:17else to that external drive. And then unplug that drive and take it somewhere
- 28:22else. Take it to your office, take it to your mom's house,
- 28:26take it to a bank vault, whatever, but just do it. Be
- 28:30careful when you're transporting it if it's not a SSD drive too, because I've
- 28:36made that mistake before. Oops. You really can't. It's with the cost
- 28:40of Salvesta drives these days, you shouldn't be backing at the speed drives anywhere
- 28:42anywhere. Yees no, exactly, definitely not all right, we're gonna take
- 28:45another quick break. We come back. Actually, we're gonna talk with Carol
- 28:49on track. We're gonna talk with PCB solutions. If you've got a hard
- 28:52drive that has failed and it's not booting up, they might have a solution
- 28:56for you. And then we'll be back with more of tech talk Radio.
- 29:00I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Sean de Weird, and I'm justin. Let me
- 29:03find us on the web tech talk radio dot com. We'll be right back
- 29:07now back to jeep talk Radio. We're back with tech talk Radio. You
- 29:11can find us on the web, but tech talk radio dot com. Let's
- 29:15talk about data recovery. There's a company out there that we've talked about many
- 29:18many times. As a matter of fact, we've used their product before.
- 29:22It is on Track and with us on the line, it's Todd Johnson from
- 29:25Kroll on Track, so we can find out a little more about the company
- 29:27and about what they do. And seriously, you need to remember this company
- 29:32because if you ever run into this situation, or you have a friend or
- 29:34a business business association that has lost data, they can get it back.
- 29:41And it's so good to talk to you, Todd. Thanks for coming on
- 29:42tech talk Radio. Thanks for having me. Andy tell us a little bit
- 29:45for those listeners that I'm not familiar with, Kroll on Track, a little
- 29:48bit about Kroll Discovery and what it is you do. Yeah, we do
- 29:52a wide range of things and most of it, all of it's revolving around
- 29:57finding and using data to help people become productive, make better business decisions,
- 30:03and save memories. So we do everything from data recovery to data destruction.
- 30:10You know, people want to lose data as well, ye, and we
- 30:12do computer forensics and electronic discovery. So spent a lot of time dealing with
- 30:18home users on their personal data, corporations and service providers as well as in
- 30:26the legal legal arena, we help people, you know, build and solve
- 30:30cases around data itself that could be used in trial and prosecution. You know,
- 30:34we've always talked about really the processing power of a computer and how much
- 30:40memory it has, but the fact is we rely on the data. It's
- 30:44you know, that's everything. It's the operating system, that's your your backups,
- 30:48your documents, et cetera. This is really important as drive sizes get
- 30:52bigger. I've had many people to just say, I'll just put everything on
- 30:55my hard drive. I just throw everything on there, and they don't think
- 30:57about backing up and in the case of a failure, this is where your
- 31:02company kind of comes in hand to really do this recovery. Now you offer
- 31:07a couple of solutions, one of them for those listeners that have accidentally maybe
- 31:11formatted a file or maybe even a hard drive they've accidentally, you know,
- 31:15partitioned and thought, oh my gosh, I've left this file on there.
- 31:18Using your software, they can actually go in and even on a formatted partition
- 31:25drive recovered data that's actually that's correct. Yeah. Accidental deletions anytime you're missing
- 31:30a file or something has been deleted or overwritten. Our software has a couple
- 31:37of nice great features for any customer or user. They can actually download a
- 31:41trial version of it and it'll run and scan their hard drive and actually look
- 31:47for the missing data that they may be requiring, and they can see if
- 31:52their data is recoverable even before they actually purchase a software. So nice,
- 31:56it really takes all the risk out of the situation. You also offer somewhat
- 32:00similar service for people who have that sound that that hard drives making that clicking
- 32:07sound and it just isn't booting up or even sometimes stopping the system from starting
- 32:12entirely, where they can actually send you the drive at a really minimal cost.
- 32:16You can do any valuation and give that customer complete cost analysis of what
- 32:22it would take to recover specific parts of data that is correct. YEA We
- 32:25follow a two step process, so a customer can either send us the device
- 32:30or if the device is working and something else may have happened to the data
- 32:36and they want us to take a look at it remotely, we have that
- 32:37capability as well. Wow, but we'll evaluate the system and provide a file
- 32:43listing that will show what data is recoverable and if there are some files that
- 32:47are damaged that are unrecoverable or partial, we'll be able to show the customer
- 32:53that as well, and then they can make a valid decision whether they want
- 32:59to move forward or not. Can you tell me about some of the stories
- 33:00that you've had, because I remember when we talked with the representative from on
- 33:05Track, we're talking many years ago. We had some case scenarios where somebody
- 33:10had had a hard drive that was in a fire, and you know,
- 33:14we're talking maybe at that time it was a two hundred megabyte hard drive,
- 33:16which was a lot of data storage for its time. But you were able
- 33:20to recover even even drives that have been through floods, fires, all that
- 33:24kind of stuff. Yeah, we see some very interesting cases. I mean,
- 33:28we do also not just the hard drive recovery, but we recover data
- 33:31off of smartphones and iPads and things like that. So we've seen things from
- 33:37iPhone coming in with a bullet hole in it, to customers sending us their
- 33:45laptop or their USB drives because their dog decided to urinate on it. Oh,
- 33:52I'm thinking of a worst case scenario with a flash drive, you know.
- 33:55And we also deal with situations you guys also, you know, see
- 34:00it in the news all the time, all this identity theft and hacking,
- 34:04and we get corporations that are coming to us that have been hacked with malicious
- 34:07intent, where people hack into their systems and take down their email systems,
- 34:12take down their payroll, and do other things to their websites where you know,
- 34:17they thought they had valid protection. But then we would come in either
- 34:21come on site or we would hook up remotely and recover that data. But
- 34:24yeah, so we see lots of crazy things with data loss on a daily
- 34:30basis. I remember taught a story in the news some years ago when the
- 34:35Space Shuttle had gone through its disaster. You know, recovering the data off
- 34:40of that had to be a task, and I believe it was Krall on
- 34:45Track that was one of the companies that came in to assist in recovering this
- 34:49data. Yeah, that's correct. When the Space Shuttle Columbia exploded, a
- 34:53couple of the hard drives were found probably six plus months after the explosure in
- 35:00the bottom of a drive up lake bed and we were sent to hard drives
- 35:05and it took some time to recover. You can imagine how damaged those devices
- 35:07were, and it contained quite a bit of research that NASA was doing and
- 35:14we were able to recover ninety nine percent of that data. Amazing, and
- 35:17you know, it's nice to be able to help help them out and move
- 35:21were provided with a very nice recognition award for doing that. Absolutely. You
- 35:25know this is nice too because again, you can do this for a large
- 35:29you know, corporate entity, a government entity, but you can also do
- 35:31this for the you know, the regular consumer that has their data which is
- 35:36just as important to them as it is to a company. If they run
- 35:38into a situation where the drive is not starting up and they send it to
- 35:43you, what kind of processes it go through? This is something that generally
- 35:46the average consumer cannot do at home. Yeah, that's correct. We we
- 35:51would have to go typically, if a drive is physically damage, we bring
- 35:53it into our clean room, and one of our clean rooms we have eighteen
- 35:57across the across the globe actually, and that is a dust free environment which
- 36:04allows us to work inside of the hard drive to be able to get at
- 36:07the raw data and pull off every sector of that drive, all the bits.
- 36:13Invites you will and put that into another environment where our lab engineers can
- 36:16start piecing back all the data. Because once you open up a hard drive,
- 36:21if you don't have the right environment, you can actually cause further damage
- 36:24to the data and also make it at times unrecoverable, even for a company
- 36:29like ourselves. Now there has been for many years we've heard that saying,
- 36:32oh gosh, if you have to send it to a company, it's going
- 36:36to cost you a down payment on a car. That's not always the case,
- 36:39and as you explained earlier, they can send it to you. You
- 36:43can do an evaluation. If it's just a matter of just wanting all of
- 36:47their photos on a three three terrorbyed drive that's gone bad, they just want
- 36:52the photos, can they do just that and say, you know, just
- 36:55recover my photos and I'm not worried about the other document are files that are
- 37:00on there. They can so when you're dealing with a damage device the amount
- 37:04of files that you want back, it still takes the same amount of effort.
- 37:08But what we would do we would have a we look at it at
- 37:12no charge, and we would provide that file report, you know, typically
- 37:16within two to three business days that would show you know, what pictures are
- 37:22recoverable. If there's pictures that are damaged, are those then we'd also be
- 37:27able to provide them with a cost at that time and then they can decide
- 37:30if they'd like to move forward or not, depending on how severe the problem
- 37:35is and the quality of the recovery and what service level they want. And
- 37:38we have our standard service level. We have people that want it done through
- 37:43over the weekend. They we have customers that say I need you have engineers
- 37:47working around the clock twenty four by seven to get the data back. It
- 37:51really depends on the situation and what type of data it is. But we
- 37:54have different offerings available now. I noticed on the software side, if this
- 38:00is something they want to they found a little hard drive in the garage they
- 38:04thought something used to be on there. If they want to recover something like
- 38:07this, I know there's different versions. There's on track easy recovery Home inexpensively
- 38:13priced and very powerful. Then there's the professional version. What would be kind
- 38:17of the difference between those two. Well, the professional version actually also provides
- 38:22capabilities to start working on some of the basic server type recoveries. So if
- 38:27you're looking just to do a single drive, desktop, lap book, notebook
- 38:30type thing, the home version will be perfect for you. Okay, great,
- 38:34And then of course they can go up the chain to an enterprise version
- 38:37and even a commercial version. Again, for some of those companies that have
- 38:39an IT guy that maybe says, I'd like to have this in my stable
- 38:43of software, this makes sense. Yeah, that's exactly right. They want
- 38:46in their toolbox, and to bring that around with them when they're going to
- 38:51do site visits or fixing whatever they might fix, they'll they'll bring that with
- 38:55them as one of their options. There's an annual license for that, but
- 39:00that annual license will give them unlimited recoveries for the entire year. That's correct.
- 39:04Data erasure. We've not heard about that too often, you know,
- 39:07and this makes sense, especially when you can see what can be recovered from
- 39:14a hard drive. I've had friends that have given their hard drives a way
- 39:16to charity, which is which is very nice. But the problem is is
- 39:21that data can be recovered and I've seen it myself. Erasure is a kind
- 39:24of a new area where it's like, make sure your data is gone?
- 39:29How does your company do that? Well, we provide a software solution through
- 39:31Blanco. We're a gold reseller partner of THEIRS in the North America, so
- 39:37we provide a software solution. We also have internal services, so some people
- 39:43would rather have us use our data recovery capabilities to permanently destroy the data versus
- 39:49having to buy a software license and do it themselves. That's an option,
- 39:54and there's other options that customers would have to where they could. I mean,
- 39:59every city in in America has somebody that would show up at their doorstep
- 40:01with a grinder and would grind up right right. And it's maybe it could
- 40:07be another topic for another time. But one of the things we did about
- 40:12a year ago is we did we did an experiment where we purchased over one
- 40:15hundred mobile and hard drives that were being resold on like eBay and oh Wow
- 40:22and other type of things. And I don't have the exact staff for anybody,
- 40:25was almost over half of those devices still had data that we were able
- 40:30to recover. Yeah, that if people knew what data was out there,
- 40:32they would be they be be horrified. That's not a good thing. No,
- 40:37it's not. Yeah, I've we've tested that as well, and yeah,
- 40:39it certainly is the case. So data erasure is also something to think
- 40:44about. Now. Our listeners, I think will be amazed at the wide
- 40:46breadth of products that are offered from Kroll on Track. They need to visit
- 40:50the website and there's your software solution. Even your clean room solution will work
- 40:55with Mac drives as well as PC drives. How about Linux? Is that
- 40:59something you guys can get into. Absolutely. Yes, we work with any
- 41:05any operating system, any storage device. We've seen it before and we've been
- 41:08recovering data from it. So if you've got data stored on any type of
- 41:14device and you cannot access it by normal means, that's that's where we come
- 41:19in. Very good stuff. Again, it is Kroll OnTrack dot com.
- 41:22That's t R A. C. K. Tom. Thank you so much
- 41:25for coming on the show with us. You know, the software sure has
- 41:29changed in the years. What would you say is is the forward thinking what
- 41:32what what is Kroll on track going to be doing, say in the next
- 41:36two three years. Well, the big trend is actually being able to write
- 41:39more support for the mobile users out there, the mobile devices, the smartphones.
- 41:45People are storing more and more on that right, our pictures are so
- 41:47much not they're not being on our put on our PCs as much anymore.
- 41:52Everybody's got them on their phones and other commission critical data is on their phones.
- 41:57And coming up with other solutions to make that more accessible is definitely a
- 42:00trend, as well as our high end recoveries and staying current and investing in
- 42:06all of our technology to help any type of data loss situation. Be sure
- 42:09to visit them on the web at kroll OnTrack dot com. Now, if
- 42:13your drive is taking a power hit and you're not getting any power, any
- 42:16sounds coming out of that drive, it could be a replacement of the PCB
- 42:21board on the drive that may get that drive working again. We're going to
- 42:24talk with the folks at PCB Solutions, which have a great way to get
- 42:29that drive operational again without you having to spend a ton of money and buying
- 42:32a drive that has the same firmware, same date as a possible solution because
- 42:37that's always not the workaround, and again we'll talk to them coming up next
- 42:42tech talk Radio and now back to tech talk Radio. Welcome back to tech
- 42:50talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor. Be sure to visit our website at tech
- 42:52talk radio dot com. You can sign up there and actually subscribe to the
- 42:57show so whenever we do something new, you'll be noticed. If you've ever
- 43:00had a drive that has taken a surge, a power surge, this happens
- 43:06often with external drives, I've seen this happen and some of the older ones
- 43:10can this can take out a hard drive. Actually you can take out the
- 43:14PCB board that's on the drive. But you know, having a DIY solution
- 43:17is always a nice thing. And on the line with us is Kevin Shaw
- 43:21with PCB Solution. They actually offer an alternative to number one, having to
- 43:25send it to a data company and doing some other things that maybe you really
- 43:29just don't need to do. Kevin, thanks for coming on tech talk Radio,
- 43:32and Kevin tell us a little bit about the company, PCB Solution and
- 43:37kind of explain to our listeners what it is you guys do. Sure,
- 43:40what we do is basically provide replacement circuit boards for your hard drive. So
- 43:45maybe your hard drive had a power surge or something and the circuit board is
- 43:49broken. Instead of sending it out to somebody else to do it, we
- 43:52can replace the circuit board for you, and all you need to do is
- 43:55basically just unscrew the old circuit board and put on a new one. Now
- 44:00this for many years what people used to say is Okay, well you know
- 44:05you can. You could you could basically ditch the drive and throw it away,
- 44:09or if it if it was suddenly not powering up, or you could
- 44:14buy a replacement hard drive, uh and then change out the boards. But
- 44:19that can be very pricey, especially with today's two and three terabyted sizes.
- 44:23People find it seems like they've got a three terrorbyted drive that maybe they don't
- 44:29want to use anymore, that they can throw it up on eBay for a
- 44:31couple hundred three hundred dollars and sell the board. But then again, it's
- 44:37not always a match, right, So actually that's a great, great question.
- 44:39So it used to be where you could just directly slop the board from
- 44:43drive to drive, but with a lot of new drives, you can't do
- 44:46that anymore because the new drives are so big and so precise. All the
- 44:52circuit boards have some unique calibration data for their own hard drive. So for
- 44:57Cgate, anything after the basically anything that's above one parabise, all those drives.
- 45:02You can't slap the soizaboard at all directly. You actually have to do
- 45:06what's called a firmware transfer, where you basically move a chip from the old
- 45:10board to the new board. And without doing the step, there's no way
- 45:14it's gonna work, right, So what we do is we provide the service
- 45:16for the customer. Basically, the customer sends the old board to us,
- 45:20We handle all the technical stuff, and we send back a board that they
- 45:22can just plug onto their hard drive. So really all they have to do
- 45:27is find that the proper torque, because you can't just use the Phillips.
- 45:30They use usually a both Western Digital Seatgate and max Or even though Maxter they
- 45:36had specific screws and you can find those at pretty much any hardware store or
- 45:39electronics shop. To remove the board. You still should use caution and care
- 45:45when removing that board. Obviously not when it's powered up. You have to
- 45:49tell people this, but then but then they can just you know, go
- 45:52ahead, and or find the board. If you guys can actually do this
- 45:58and then and then ship that, buy it and then ship it to you.
- 46:00Yep, Actually you don't have to try that hard to find the right
- 46:02board. Basically, you want to receive your old board, we'll take a
- 46:07look at it and match it up to the proper one directly by ourselves.
- 46:10Then basically, yeah, you can just ship the all board old board to
- 46:14us. We'll take care of the rest. Now, if our listeners are
- 46:15out there, I have had this situation where all of a sudden, for
- 46:20some reason, that external doesn't power up. There's just it. You're not
- 46:24getting a power light, or they get the power light, but it just
- 46:27the drive is not identified. Could it sometimes be just the power connector that's
- 46:32inside that external that goes out? And if it's out of warranty, is
- 46:37the best solution to go ahead and pretty much open that up and pull that
- 46:42drive out of there? Yeah, definitely, that's a great question. So
- 46:44basically, if if it's an external drive, the first step is you should
- 46:47take it, take it out. And if you have a desktop drive,
- 46:52sorry, if you have a desktop computer, you can just try that drive
- 46:55as a as a as a say the internal drive in your computer like as
- 47:00a slave. As a slave drive right that way can bypass any problems with
- 47:04positive problems with the enclosure or the power as after a USB cable anything like
- 47:07that. But the risk there though, is if it's short, it's the
- 47:12hard drive itself is short, you might be doing some damage to your computer
- 47:15itself exactly. So if you if you at least have like maybe like a
- 47:20dogging station or anything, you can try it in there. You still gotta
- 47:22be careful with that because actually I just and I didn't even tell you,
- 47:25guys, but I just sent you a drive that had they had taken as
- 47:30we knew it had taken a power hit, and we're like, oh man.
- 47:35And then once we opened up the drive and actually, well we opened
- 47:38up the took the panel off the drive. You don't open up the drive.
- 47:42We took the panel off, We turned it upside down and it looked
- 47:44like somebody had boiled macaroni and cheese on it. It was so bad.
- 47:50Now that can a drive like that, even with that plate, can that
- 47:54be recovered generally saved even if the board has been just completely fried? Yeah,
- 48:00no problem. So we get some board that looks just terrible. It
- 48:02just smell absolutely horrible. But we only need one chip on the board to
- 48:06be okay. That chip is pretty much okay at ninety nine percent of the
- 48:09time. So the process is then they send you the board, you do
- 48:14the firmware chip change out, uh, and then you can the customer can
- 48:20elect to have the board send back to them or just you know traffic because
- 48:22it's not going to be good anymore. You send that back to them and
- 48:25then they just put it back on and hook it up. Yeah, that's
- 48:29it. Wow, that's pretty good. And the thing is the cost is
- 48:31so much better than having to find a drive of the same type of size,
- 48:37and again that doesn't always work with these larger sized drives. Is it
- 48:42generally going to be around the thirty nine to fifty nine dollars range? And
- 48:45does it sometimes vary? It's pretty much all that thirty nine So if it
- 48:51doesn't require a firm or transfer, that's where we can send the board to
- 48:53you directly. For all their drives pretty much always thirty nine dollars. And
- 48:58if it's a driver quires a form of transfer or strop out, the tip
- 49:01for you or the cause is always forty nine dollars. Very cool. Now
- 49:05our listeners can find you obviously, You've got a really great store and what
- 49:08I love about it one hundred percent. Uh, you know satisfaction. People
- 49:13who use your service are very happy because usually it usually will work right out
- 49:16of the box. We've had used your service in the past, again,
- 49:20been very happy with it. If they want to find you, obviously on
- 49:23eBay, the website address to find you and get more information is one pcbsolution
- 49:30dot com. But again we can find you on eBay. Yeah, so
- 49:32the eBay user name is PCB solution. If the drive is under warranty and
- 49:37they send it in, all they will generally do is just go ahead and
- 49:39just send you a replacement drive, right And if there's under warrantined they can
- 49:44usually contact the manufacturer and ask them if it's okay to that to better recovery
- 49:47on the drive. Oh cool. Usually will that you do some better recovery
- 49:51and still honor warranty. How long does this process take, Kevin, for
- 49:54somebody to send you the drive and then for them to get the PCB board
- 49:58and then get that back somebody in the States to send the board to us
- 50:00with USPS. It only takes two to three days to get to us.
- 50:05From there, it takes one day to do the transfer and we send it
- 50:07back to you from Canada. From here to America it takes around one week.
- 50:10Well that's not bad. And I think once people get their boards back
- 50:15and they get them put in and suddenly there's their data, that's certainly a
- 50:17great trade off. Thank you so much for the number one of the service
- 50:22you do. But thanks for coming on the show and telling us a little
- 50:23bit about it, Kevin. Best of luck to you continued success. So
- 50:27great stuff to think about as we reach world. Back up, Dabe,
- 50:30just something to hopefully help you out when it comes to your data. We'll
- 50:32come back with more of tech talk Radio. Want to remind you to subscribe
- 50:37to our show on our website at tech talk radio dot com. We're also
- 50:39on YouTube. You can see some of our videos from our television segments,
- 50:43even extra segments that we're doing outside of that again on our YouTube page for
- 50:49tech talk Radio. We'll be right back and now back to tech talk Radio.
- 50:54All right for the final thing here. What we're going to do is
- 50:57we're going to talk about what are we watching right now? Yes, I
- 51:00personally I just finished a Netflix series. My wife got me into it.
- 51:05It's amazing. It's called House of Ninjas, and it is like a modern
- 51:08day Ninjas. I mean, it's modern in Japan, but there are true
- 51:15ninjas that still live in Japan. And honestly, this is not that far
- 51:19from the truth. There are actual ninjas that do things in Japan. They're
- 51:23are just a secret society. So if you want to check out House of
- 51:28Ninjas Netflix, now, they actually were smart. They got together and they
- 51:31started making those blenders and Jesus shush a right. House of Ninja. Is
- 51:42it animated or live act? No, it's live action, shun. Kaylin
- 51:45and I are rewatching Scrubs. Oh, Caitlin and I have been spending a
- 51:50lot of time, you know, overnight with Daniel or whatever, and it's
- 51:53just she started rewatching Scrubs. So that's what we've been watching. And it's
- 51:57a reprieve from the atrocious amount of ads on YouTube. Yeah, because Max
- 52:04loves watching children's stuff on YouTube. He likes watching the unboxing the toys and
- 52:07all that stuff. But oh my god, the ads. Yeah, are
- 52:15I have YouTube Premium, I don't know what ads are. Yeah, we
- 52:19just need to bite the bullet and pay for YouTube Premium because it's and Max
- 52:22even knows how to skip the ads. You will. He will say,
- 52:25oh, skip, and he'll go grab the remote and wait and then hit
- 52:29the button after the cow down his to skip the ad. Well, what
- 52:30am I want? I'm watching I'm still watching Curb Your Enthusiasm. I watched
- 52:34that. It's been rough because it's hard for me to get into a show
- 52:37and go is this any good? Because I'll give it maybe one. If
- 52:42it's donet grab me in that first episode, forget it, I'm out.
- 52:45I don't know. But the thing is is a lot of your Have you
- 52:47ever watched Breaking Bad? Uh? No? See, so that's the problem.
- 52:53Breaking Bad is a perfect example. You watched the first episode and you're
- 52:58like, yeah, whatever, this suck. You've got to watch it,
- 53:00dude, I'm telling you right now, you have to watch Breaking Bad,
- 53:04and listeners out there, if you've never watched Breaking Bad, it is an
- 53:07absolute must. It takes a couple episodes to get into because it kind of
- 53:13builds up the characters and then once it hits oh my god, you just
- 53:16cannot put it down. Did I ever tell you I ran into Raymond Cruz
- 53:20at the McDonald's and Marina and I turned around. I lived. But I
- 53:23didn't know him from Breaking Bad. I knew him from Clear and Present Danger
- 53:29and other movies. And I remember when I was telling I was telling my
- 53:32friends about it, you know, and they were like, dude, he
- 53:36was in Breaking Bad. I'm like, I've never seen it, so I
- 53:38should watch it. Then he was too. Tuco Salamanca. Oh my god.
- 53:44His part, although short lived, it is an amazing role. This
- 53:49guy holy cow was amazing and people must have liked him because they brought him
- 53:53back for the commercial those pop potato chips. Absolutely, yes, all right,
- 54:00you gotta watch it. That is it for this week's Tech Talk Radio.
- 54:04I know next week Sean is really excited about this. There's some stuff
- 54:07that you want to tell us about the eclipse. Oh man, I'm so
- 54:10excited. In twenty seventeen, we went to we were in Indy for gen
- 54:15Con and we saw the We were like ninety eight percent totality for that eclipse,
- 54:20and this is gonna be the last one for several decades. That's full
- 54:23totality across the delis right. There's eclipses that there's eclipses around the world all
- 54:28the time, right, it's gonna be the last one until like twenty forty
- 54:30or something that crosses the US. Oh Man, We're going to We're going
- 54:32to Indianapolis. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is one of NASA's hosts broadcast sites for
- 54:37the eclipse this year. We're camping. We're gonna have a great time and
- 54:42I don't know, I'm so excited. We'll talk more about that next week
- 54:45on the show. Have yourselves a great week and a most blessed Easter.
