Transcript
- 0:02[SPEAKER_00]: Time for the 49ers Rush Podcast.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_00]: and here's your host, John Chapman.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_00]: What is going on, faithful?
- 0:37[SPEAKER_02]: It is Thursday.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_02]: And it were in season, which means we got the coach approach with me, the man as always.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_02]: And from 49ers cut back, how we doing today, man?
- 0:47[SPEAKER_01]: I'm doing great.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_01]: Excited to be here talking 49ers football.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_01]: 2 and 0, lots of crazy things happening with this roster, especially in the interior defensive line.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm excited that this 49er team keeps winning and I think there's still wins coming up.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_01]: Big games coming up as well, but as Arizona Cardinals game, I think it's a winnable game and I'm excited to see it.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_01]: because to an old division, John, you're a third of the way there if you can get that done, and I think they got a shot to do it this week against Arizona.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think, you know, a lot of people kind of overstate or, I'd say, understand how important to visual games are, you get six, you get six.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_02]: a season.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_02]: And you look at just last year where the 49ers were 12 and 5, you had the Rams, who were 12 and 5 yet Seattle had one more win, but it's just like those divisional matchups, those divisional games play such a pivotal role in the seeding, the tiebreakers, all those different things, divisional wins are everything because they count twice because not only are they for your division, that's a conference win as well, which is another
- 1:54[SPEAKER_02]: these games matter and they they just count more they know each other so well you talk about the coaching staff you know it was shoot the head coach Lefour it was with Shetty hand for two years was with Robert Sala for two years was with McVay for three years like
- 2:10[SPEAKER_02]: This is a fight that takes place.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to go to my southern reference here at a family reunion down south like that is what this is.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_02]: Everybody knows everybody the schemes, the play calls, everything and it just means more whenever you play these divisional games.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_02]: I don't care if it's cardinals.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_02]: they always play the Niners close.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_02]: They always do.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_02]: Um, so, man, look at this from Jess.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_02]: Rare to get a live show in nowadays with an eight month old, but coach approach is worth that man, Jess, congratulations.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_02]: I love it.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_02]: I love it.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_02]: I love it.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_02]: Congratulations to your and your family.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_02]: You deserve it all.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_02]: Um, and we thank you for taking time with us and if you guys know anything, y'all know how much I love Thursdays and whatever, I get to be with aunt.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_02]: I'm pumped.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_02]: Look at Captain.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_02]: He's mad at us.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_02]: Taps, but chap your late.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_02]: I'm never late.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_02]: I was late today.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_02]: I take full responsibility.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_02]: That is okay.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_02]: That is okay.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_02]: So you brought up the divisional matchup and how important this is for the Niners to jump out to 2 and 0 in the division.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_02]: What are your thoughts and we're going to bounce back and forth if you knew to the coach approach between what we saw last week against the dolphins or what we want to see moving forward, but what's a real quick synopsis you have of this cold steam that's Dr. Jackal missed our high through two weeks amazing week one terrible week two.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_02]: What do you see when you watch them?
- 3:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think a week one, they kind of over achieved a little bit.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_01]: And I think last week we saw them hang with Seattle early.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: They were able to kind of, you know, keep things under wraps, they had that big, you know, big stop inside the red zone, which was huge, a goal line stand and they were, they were hanging there and then eventually it caught up with them.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_01]: They can't stop Jackson Smith and Jigba, he was just all over the place last week against the Cardinals and that Seattle team just slowly wore them down.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_01]: I do except the Arizona Cardinals don't have as many talented young players to the dolphins.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_01]: I think the dolphins are going to build this thing, but they're stripping it all the way down.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_01]: They click the floor, try not to strip it all the way down and be competitive sooner.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't know if that's going to work out for them, but they have a lot of injuries in the secondary as well.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_01]: I look at this team and I just don't think they can be consistent enough on offense to be able to stay with the better teams in the league.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_01]: And I think their defense can't hold up if they don't have an offense.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to
- 4:34[SPEAKER_01]: continue to move the full.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_01]: They got to run the ball 35 40 times to be able to beat the better teams in the NFL.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, now that does match up relatively well with the 49ers weakness.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_02]: Their run defense is definitely not a strength.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_02]: Now you lose CJ West.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_02]: You're just pulling guys in off of the practice squad off the street.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_02]: You're throwing so many assets at this problem.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, that that run game for the Cardinals, which they've invested more and to the running back position than any team in the NFL, you know, you and I, we were streaming live on the draft.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_02]: We thought Jeremiah loves an incredible prospect.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_02]: That was just a terrible use of resources to take him third overall.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_02]: Hi, it's guaranteed running back money and they have so many weaknesses.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_02]: And I would have argued, running back was one of their positions of strength before the draft, they triple up on it.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_02]: Cardinals is not a good roster.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_02]: It really, really isn't.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_02]: It doesn't deserve to compete with the 49ers, especially whenever you look at the running back spot.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_02]: That's the one area where it's like, man, even though they invested all this, I still would take the 49ers running back over what they do.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_02]: So, and it's kind of weird too, because Tyler out of years got way more snaps, way more carries than Jeremiah love.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_02]: Do you think that changes soon?
- 5:54[SPEAKER_02]: Is it gonna start to tip more to Jeremiah love?
- 5:56[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like out of years kind of had a little more success.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think he's the more in and out back, you know, the guy that they're going to have consistently run it in and out, just give him the ball, let him feed him the rock chair, my love is kind of they're working him in.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_01]: They're trying to figure out exactly how he fits in this offense.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_01]: He's the eventual, you know, Christian McAfrey type within this Michael floor offense, but I don't think they're ready to go there right now.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_01]: They need somebody that can just tote the rock over and over and over and try to wear on an opposing defense and I don't think right now That's something Jeremiah love can do and in fact I think there's some inconsistencies in his game when he look at vision and some of the things that he does He still threatens you out of the backfield, especially catching the football and he's got the ability You know to jump cut and bounce outside if you don't keep a solid edge and then that's where he gets dangerous, but I would say
- 6:46[SPEAKER_01]: Running inside hasn't really been a strength of his.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think he looks real comfortable right now within the offense.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_01]: And we know with an offense like this, the zone scheme, a lot of times the pacing is very important.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_01]: You've got to be slow and then you've got to go as soon as you see it, you go.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_01]: So right now, I think he's trying to figure that out.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_01]: So I think right now, Tywin out years is the perfect running back for what they're looking for within this system.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_01]: and eventually it will be Jeremiah love, but I don't know when that's going to be into the season maybe next year.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's part of the reason they invested in the running back vision in free agency and in the draft is they're trying to get a home run hitter eventually, but right now they've got a guy that's more consistent with out years.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm more worried about him.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_02]: The explosives, obviously, would share my love.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_02]: That's what he brings to the table.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_02]: But the 49ers have had a history since the Shedahan era as began of these kind of overpowering workhorse backs, having so much success against this defense.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_02]: And when you're in a nickel, and now they're in dime so much, it kind of makes a little bit of a little bit of sense because they don't load the box.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_02]: They're one of the least heavily stacked box teams in the NFL.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_02]: Well, let's do this.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_02]: Let's jump backwards.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_02]: Let's go back to the dolphin's game.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_02]: And let's stick with the defense.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_02]: Why not?
- 8:01[SPEAKER_02]: We started conversation on the defensive side.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_02]: So let's do this.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_02]: I'm already in verse on my notes, which is awesome.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_02]: What were some of the things that you liked that the 49ers defense did against the dolphins that you saw on tape just from a coach of pro scheme kind of idea that jumped out to tape to you because man, where he more is
- 8:20[SPEAKER_02]: He'll throw everything up against the wall, Jackson Pollock style and just see what sticks in there.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_02]: Every single drive, it's like, whoa, I haven't seen that before.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_02]: Whoa, haven't seen that before.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_02]: What stood out to you that worked and kind of caught your attention against the dolphins?
- 8:34[SPEAKER_01]: I think the first thing that stood out to me was you could see where he Morris knew they needed to do something to stop the run.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_01]: He wasn't going to come out in that base for three set and
- 8:46[SPEAKER_01]: at them over and over and over.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_01]: So the coming out with that odd front, I thought was important.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_01]: I thought that did help them early.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_01]: Of course, there were some adjustments when they went to nickel and, you know, we just have one line back around there and you would see the situation where it was different because they left the extra defensive line and out there.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_01]: and he had to adjust to that eventually.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_01]: But I liked the aggressiveness of bringing Jair Brown and Marky Seagull into the box and saying, you know, we're going to give you eight man boxes, we're going to make Malik Willis beat us.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_01]: And I thought, hey, you know what, let's take away the best thing the dolphins got going.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_01]: You always want to take away
- 9:17[SPEAKER_01]: the opposing teams advantage and I thought that that's what they did with their eight man boxes and being aggressive and knowing what your weaknesses are and then go in ahead and taking advantage of using other personnel.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_01]: Marky Seagull and Jared Brown were phenomenal inside the box and then you throw and where he Morris his blitzes, he started run blitzing, he had all the blitzes coming off the edge.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_01]: Seagull up and stood out at one where they were running like a bunch set and he cheated inside and knife didn't made the tackle in the back feel like that.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_01]: That was that was so nice the way he set it up everything where he Morris did that to help his football team and I like that aspect of the defense for the 49ers against the dolphins.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that three defensive tackle set that was fun didn't really get a lot of you out of it because the game just got out of control.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_02]: one of my coaching things that I want to watch like if I was a quality control coach, which like I remember I used to count touches, you know, one of my first years coaching, it was my job to track touches for every single player that we had during the game, right?
- 10:24[SPEAKER_02]: So I was on the offensive side and like it happened along the defensive side, but whenever the offense was out there, I was charting touches, you know, if you throw a pass to somebody or you hand off or whatever else, it was like, okay, at half, I'd be at the quarter or whatever,
- 10:39[SPEAKER_02]: So and so has four touches so and so has zero touches at this point you would track that and then the play college with just accordingly because if you have play makers you got to get them out there up to staff to play maker from He got 34 snaps last week.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_02]: I love that.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_02]: I want him to be 30 plus, you know, and so whatever you can do to keep 20 out there.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_02]: I like Jayden Tucker.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_02]: I really really do.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_02]: But I love up and stout and I think Jayden Dougher the less snaps he gets like I want him to get work, but I want him in kind of the, you know, 10s teens to early 20s.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not wanting him in those 30 40 whatever.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_02]: Um, and so the more up and stout out there, I love it.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_02]: I'd never thought I'd say this nickel and time packages for the 49ers are a win.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_02]: It used to be the opposite all the time.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_02]: Like man, just keep the three line.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_02]: But I have like, we'd had a z's and a trade green law and Fred Warner's like, dude, why are we not just staying in fourth or three?
- 11:35[SPEAKER_02]: You, you, you, you, you, you, you.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_02]: Quon Alexander like that is the strength now.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, dude, I need more up to him.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_02]: I've got a fever and the only prescription is more up to and stout, man.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_02]: Got to have it.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_02]: Got to have it.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_02]: Looking for it, we've got a pause because everybody keeps talking about how you check it.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_02]: We're talking about last week.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_02]: Did you see it's just got fined again, how you check for doing the juice.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_02]: celebration when he scored a touchdown.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_02]: He's drinking juice.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_02]: The crowd screaming juice.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_02]: He gets fined by the NFL because they said he was chugging a beer.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_02]: He's now been fined back to back weeks.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_02]: I just think that it's crazy.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_02]: It's the juice celebration in the NFL's sponsored by nothing but alcohol agencies.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_02]: I'm a little upset.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it doesn't make sense, right?
- 12:29[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, whether it is a beer or not, I mean, it doesn't make sense.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_01]: This is one of those times that minute made or somebody needs to step up as a cow.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_01]: You check we're going to pay your fines and also you can you'll do some.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_01]: with us because it's dumb.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_01]: Let them have fun.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_01]: Let them have a celebration.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_01]: It's obvious the whole entire crowd is yelling juice as he's doing the sign.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_01]: This isn't rocket science.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_01]: They're just looking for ways to find players to take that money and send it to non-profits or whatever they're doing.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_01]: I kind of hope Kyle, you check.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_01]: just keeps doing it.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_01]: Just keep doing it and curve the fines because it's just the no fun league.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_01]: And I hate this.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_01]: They always have to learn from their mistakes.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, you guys can't celebrate together.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_01]: Don't do that anymore.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_01]: And the next thing, you know, like all celebrations are back in because people are complaining.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_01]: People just need to take the social media.
- 13:18[SPEAKER_01]: They will pay attention to it at some point, but it'll take a while.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, like you got players getting fine more for jumping on the pylon or the they then and you've got domestic violence charges at home and they don't do anything about that, but you jump on a pylon, oh boy, I can't have the kiddos replicating that.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's a mess now what is awesome is the strike and goal podcast, Rob Lauder, KP, spit and hot fire as always, Rob Lauder had tip to you, my friend always great to see you in the chat, always great to see you everybody go check out strike and goal podcast.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_02]: One of the favorites for the reaction show, man, it's my go to especially whenever I'm driving or flying the reaction shows striking gold podcasts is what I listen to after the game is my first one might go to for that every time he's just a legend just a legend now I want to take a minute because this Saturday something a little different's happening.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_02]: The red and bold mark with the sea is joining the cut back.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_02]: So can you talk to us just a little bit about your schedule coming up Saturday because I don't want people to miss this.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_02]: If you guys haven't listened to Mark, he's the man and you know is the man.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_02]: It's just like a freaking Avengers type setup.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_02]: So talk to us just a little bit about what you got going on Saturday.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so the red and bull show is back from hiatus.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_01]: It's been a while.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to be recording on Saturdays now.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_01]: And we're going to do 11 a.m. on Saturday.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be fun.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_01]: Mark, you know, he writes for 49's web zone.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_01]: And he's got a reporter's mentality on things.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_01]: And so he leads the conversations in that certain type away.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_01]: And then, you know, I'm there to kind of give a little bit of context to some of this stuff.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_01]: And it's just a lot of fun.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_01]: And we were kind of thrusted together a while back.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_01]: And I love doing the red and bull show with Mark.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_01]: It's a
- 15:00[SPEAKER_01]: a lot of fun.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_01]: It's a little bit different.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_01]: And so everyone comes join us.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_01]: It'll be live at 11 a.m. Pacific time on Saturday.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_02]: That's what's up.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_02]: I love that.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_02]: 11 a.m. Pacific time Saturday.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_02]: Join them.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_02]: Join them.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_02]: Look at this budget traveler.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_02]: My man says, what's up, John?
- 15:16[SPEAKER_02]: Need to link back up.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_02]: I'm the truck driver for Gamewater Seattle last year.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_02]: We went to dinner at the Chinese restaurant for those of you.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_02]: Don't know.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_02]: Seattle, we're going to be there 40 hours for road trip, but I think we're on like five years in a row after our event's done, we go to Chinatown and just freaking crush food, man.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_02]: Last year, I think we had like 15 to 20 people.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_02]: and they messed up our order and they brought out like 30 plates of sesame chicken.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_02]: It was just incredible.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_02]: It was it was like Jesus feeding the 5,000 I swear, man.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_02]: It was it was comical, but we had a wonderful time.
- 15:53[SPEAKER_02]: Appreciate you, man.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we got to link up again.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_02]: We we had a good time.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_02]: That's what we do.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_02]: It's all about building the community now.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_02]: Let's get back to
- 16:02[SPEAKER_02]: the defensive side of the football for the 49ers.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_02]: And let's let's peer forward, okay?
- 16:07[SPEAKER_02]: Then we'll jump to the offensive side, and we'll do the same thing, look back, look forward.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_02]: But for the 49ers offense, first the Cardinals.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sorry, 49ers defense first, the Cardinals.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_02]: What is it that you're wanting to see, where he Morris implement?
- 16:19[SPEAKER_02]: Because we've seen a wide array.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_02]: We've seen the two high shell.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_02]: We've seen the five-man defensive line front with three defensive tackles.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_02]: We've seen three defensive ends.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_02]: One defensive tackle.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_02]: They haven't blitzed months.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_02]: Really at all, Robert Solotite blitz numbers, but they're getting pressure.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_02]: What do you want to see the 49ers do against the Cardinals from a defensive perspective?
- 16:41[SPEAKER_01]: I want to see them lean into that odd front a little bit more, you know, I think with Nick Juan Jones, maybe
- 16:48[SPEAKER_01]: uh, McKinley Jackson, I think he might get elevated depending on how things play out.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_01]: I want to see them with that true nose tackle, going there and trying to stop the run.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, because I do think that that's one of the quick ways to get Arizona out of what they want to do.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_01]: Arizona is not a great third down offense.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_01]: And so if you can slow them down on first and second down, it's going to be important.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_01]: But I want to see some adjustments too when you want to go with those three defensive tackle looks and they go to nickel.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_01]: You know, how do you adjust to that?
- 17:14[SPEAKER_01]: And I want to see the adjustments, how were he more, his figures it out?
- 17:18[SPEAKER_01]: They do have some weapons on the outside, even though those guys haven't played extremely well this season.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_01]: Arizona has players that we've seen go off on the 49ers.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_01]: Someone like Michael Wilson can go off on the 49ers if you don't pay attention to them.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_01]: So I think I want to see that.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_01]: I want to see them be dedicated to stopping the run because I'm curious if Nikon Jones is going to be an improvement right now because of his skill set stopping the run.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_01]: And we'll see how that kind of plays out.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_01]: What happens when you get 3233 pound defensive tackles over the nose?
- 17:47[SPEAKER_01]: We know they'll go to something more NASCAR, but that's what I'm watching in this one.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's so clear both like through two weeks.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_02]: It was so clear what Miami's job offensively or goal was to do.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_02]: It was so clear what the Rams offensively, what they were trying to do.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_02]: But the Niners just kind of boat-raced both teams and man, the offense was so efficient early and I mean, shoot.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_02]: last week versus the top and scored five touchdowns on your first five offense of possessions.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_02]: It's so it took them out of, you know, the idea of being able to run because you're just playing from behind, David right here, let them run on us.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_02]: They won't be able to keep up any way.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_02]: There's so much that goes into complimentary football.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_02]: And you can run the ball as much as you want and you could have that plan.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_02]: But if you fall down to possessions and then you get a 3 and out because of a sack or a penalty or a turnover along those lines, now you kind of hold your hands up and you're just like, hmm, you saw this exact same situation happen last week for the Cardinals against the Seattle Seahawks defense.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_02]: Now Seattle Seahawks defense strength is the 49ers defense biggest weakness.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_02]: Their interior offensive line is second to none in the NFL.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_02]: 49ers is not that, so like one of these days not like the other, but I do think that it is similar in the fact that if the Niners do get a lead, which they have demonstrated, they've been able to do very, very well.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_02]: If the Cardinals get one dimensional, this could get ugly.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_02]: The spread is huge is eight to half points.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's a second largest spread in the NFL this week,
- 19:29[SPEAKER_02]: It's not projected to be a close game.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_02]: Can you see the Cardinals offense putting up points?
- 19:36[SPEAKER_02]: Because if they're kicking field goals, they're not going to win.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_02]: They're not going to keep it close.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_02]: The Niners, they're freaking dominating the red zone offensive defensively.
- 19:45[SPEAKER_02]: Do you see the Cardinals being able to have the firepower to keep up with the Niners?
- 19:50[SPEAKER_01]: No, I don't.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's one of their real problem.
- 19:52[SPEAKER_01]: That's why I said, I think they got to run the ball 35, 40 times.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_01]: They got to limit possessions for the 49ers and hope that their defense can get a couple of stops.
- 19:59[SPEAKER_01]: Because if you look at Arizona's defense, one area they're actually decent is on third down.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_01]: They're only given up, given up, conversions at 38%.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_01]: So there's one thing they can do is get off the field a little bit.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_01]: And if you can get a couple of stops, and then eat the clock, the way that it might be dolphins were trying to do in the first half last week.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_01]: Well, then you have an opportunity to be in this game when when when when it matters, but I just don't think they have the firepower.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think Jacobi Perset is a guy that can pull the trigger and absolutely take advantage of 49er seconder.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_01]: That's why I say, you know, get get aggressive stopping the run and make Jacobi Perset beat you.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_01]: He's also not very mobile in the pockets.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_01]: You can get aggressive coming after him with five man pressures.
- 20:38[SPEAKER_01]: I think they have a real opportunity to kind of run away with one again if they're able to stop the run early and limit the possessions and opportunities for Arizona because if Brockford is out there, I don't know why, but every single time.
- 20:50[SPEAKER_01]: He's out there.
- 20:50[SPEAKER_01]: I just feel like the four years are going to score a touchdown and you'll right now they're scoring in the red zone 86% of the time it's touchdowns.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_01]: It's ridiculous for the 49ers.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't think Arizona has the firepower, but with the visual games, you never know how things play out early.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_01]: Four years are going to have to kind of handle that run game and then when they get on off, it's still going to have to score touchdowns which I believe they will.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_02]: I like that, hymster for coming with a super chat.
- 21:11[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you so much.
- 21:13[SPEAKER_02]: Niners best run defenses, Brock Perti.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_02]: Well said, complimentary football.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_02]: Do not allow the team to stay in their game plan, because it's a freaking NASCAR race out there.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_02]: And if you jump out to early points, even saw this with the dolphins, they were getting scoring drives.
- 21:28[SPEAKER_02]: They missed their first fill goal.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_02]: But like that, three fill goal attempts in their first three drives.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_02]: What enough?
- 21:33[SPEAKER_02]: when you're trading field goals for touchdowns, can't keep up.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_02]: The numbers just don't work.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_02]: And probably the biggest concern, you know, whenever you're talking about the Cardinals offense, it's McBride.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_02]: I think he's kind of taken over the narrative of the best Titan in the NFL over George Kittle.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_02]: George Kittle's definitely still in the mix for sure, awesome game last week, but only played 25 snaps.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_02]: Back to McBride, what is your approach?
- 22:00[SPEAKER_02]: How do you
- 22:02[SPEAKER_02]: Limit or do you not even limit and say, look, this guy, Tray McBride's gonna get his.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_02]: He's just too big of a matchup nightmare for linebackers and safety.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_02]: So he's gonna get his, we're gonna stop other players.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_02]: Do the bell to check a approach like we're shutting down everybody else, your number one, do what he's got to do.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_02]: What is your Tray McBride plan?
- 22:24[SPEAKER_01]: I think you feel comfortable with the 49ers linebackers and safeties against Tramic Bride.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_01]: I think you are pretty comfortable taking him out of the game.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_01]: I think you do try to, hey, let's take McBride out, let's take the run game out and let's make Michael Wilson, let's make Marvin Harrison, let's make those guys beat us.
- 22:42[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that that is kind of the method, and then you know, on third down, you're just letting them get make ride the ball underneath and rallying to make tackles.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_01]: But Fred Warner, Drake Greenlaw, last week were phenomenal in coverage.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they were just so good, uh, Drake Greenlaw was it's so nice to have him back.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_01]: You don't have to worry about the inconsistencies of somebody not getting covered or him not being where he's supposed to be.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_01]: It's really fun.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_01]: So I think they can funnel him.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_01]: I also believe that in some matchups, Jaden Dugger will be out there if there are Arizona's in 12 personnel.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_01]: Jaden Dugger will be out there and he will be helping as well.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_01]: So I think they're going to make a concerted effort to slow down, Tray McBride, and try to limit his effectiveness early and put the owners on everybody else.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_01]: So stop the run, stop Tray McBride.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_01]: I think of the two main goals.
- 23:24[SPEAKER_01]: Take those things away.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_01]: What is Jacobi for second to do?
- 23:27[SPEAKER_01]: Is it going to be Marvin Harrison Jr. who they're talking about?
- 23:30[SPEAKER_01]: You know, around the league maybe he's interested in being trade or they're interesting trading him away.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know about that.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm just saying like this is the conversations for how bad he's been playing this year.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_01]: Put it on them.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_01]: And I think Ronaldo Green and up to Stouton, John Miller, they're up to the task.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not really worried about them covering those wide receivers.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to get some, but I think the 49ers corners are playing so good right now.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I just looked up the game logs of Trey McBride.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_02]: He's had over eight targets in 17 of the last 20 games.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_02]: Like he is their offense.
- 24:01[SPEAKER_02]: Like he's the guy.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_02]: how you limit that.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, but yeah, I'm not overly worried about their wide receivers.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_02]: I do know Michael Wilson did tear us up last year.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_02]: I remember I was at that game and I looked up and I was like, Jacobi for says 400 yards passing.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_02]: Michael Wilson has 100 and some odd yards for like what the hell?
- 24:21[SPEAKER_02]: It was a blowout game and they were just airing it out, but it was like,
- 24:25[SPEAKER_02]: Man, they put up some crazy crazy numbers.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_02]: My thing is Kendrick Porn.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_02]: I, you know, watch the first game for sure.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_02]: Like this, I love Kendrick Porn.
- 24:34[SPEAKER_02]: Here's my infamous, as soon as I say I love somebody after put some negative out there, and I'm gonna do it again, damn it.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sorry, fell into the bear trap.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_02]: I love Kendrick Porn, but he's soft.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_02]: I want Drake Greenlaw to go out there and pop him early.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_02]: I don't care if you get a penalty.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_02]: Like, not because I dislike him, I want to get into the head of Kendrick Bourne.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_02]: I believe in revenge type games.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's important for him.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_02]: I think he looks at the 49ers very happily, but you want to perform against your buddies.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_02]: I want Drake Greenlaw to go out there and pop him in the face, hardcore one time.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_02]: I don't want him to get injured or anything like that.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_02]: But like, if I was a defensive coordinator,
- 25:10[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to make sure this guy knows we are play for blood like it reminds me of who was the the Kobe you remember when they did the Olympic games against the palgasaw it's Spain and he tells the it's because they were teammates for the lakers if you don't know this story I figured love this he tells everybody goes hey they're going to come set of screen on one of the first possessions I'm running through palgasaw's chest and this was like an Olympic friendly game.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_02]: he goes out there and just freaking lowers his shoulder, Oklahoma drill into his teammate, Palgasal, set the freaking tone.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_02]: Got a pin, they call the foul on it, but dude, that's what I want.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_02]: Go set the freaking tone, man.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_02]: Let's go, Shorsy, set the tone.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_02]: Scott coming in with the super chat.
- 25:53[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you so much.
- 25:55[SPEAKER_02]: This has become my favorite collab for fun.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_02]: What's a 49ers take you to do not see eye to eye on or what is the first 9 or game you remember man at night I talk about this off the air all the time we agree on too much.
- 26:08[SPEAKER_02]: It's a problem We need to go to marital counseling and figure out and come up with some issues.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_02]: Um, I don't know.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_02]: Can you take of anything off the top of your head?
- 26:21[SPEAKER_02]: that we disagree on a lot.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not the biggest Jake Prendorge I here, Brown guy.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, yeah, I can't, I can't agree.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, like I, I'm with you though.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_01]: That's the thing like I can't think of anything off the top of my head that we're just way different on I'm sure there's been things that we've been different on I just I can't think of it off the top of my head, but that is a good question.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_02]: hotfire tweets.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe what I'll do for Scott is one of the times you do some of the tweets at the game all like say something like I disagree or something just put it out there, you know, well we'll get a little disagreements going just you know just so everyone sees that we do disagree sometimes.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I love it, man.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, so we'll go to the second part of this question.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_02]: What is the first nine or game you remember?
- 27:14[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, that's a hard one.
- 27:24[SPEAKER_02]: 93 is whenever I started watching the Niners.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_02]: And I remember because like mine's not the nine or game so much I got my jersey that's how I became a fan right as my stepdad who is a Cowboys fan to piss them off what's he me hated most so for my birthday Christmas whatever I asked for this jersey.
- 27:44[SPEAKER_02]: I wear to school.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_02]: I remember getting a fight the first time I wore the jersey that stands out to me.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm wearing the Jay Rice jersey in Texas and I got a fight with this guy's name Ferris.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_02]: I still remember him to this day.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so that's what I remember.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I always call them fairs will.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_02]: That was my thing.
- 28:02[SPEAKER_02]: And he called me chapstick and then we slugged it out and I got in trouble and my mom told me I couldn't wear the jersey to school anymore.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_02]: So then I had to hide it in my backpack.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_02]: So I could still wear it.
- 28:12[SPEAKER_02]: But that's okay.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_02]: That's my first Niners memory was fighting.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_02]: And now here we are, I don't want to count how many years later.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_02]: But a lot of years later, we're still going, what about you?
- 28:23[SPEAKER_02]: First Niners game you remember.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's interesting because I've watched so many like old nine or games now that I think it's like blurred my, you know, my thoughts on like what I've actually remember seeing and not but I think the one that stands out the most was the 49ers for spangled Super Bowl Super Bowl 23 I remember sitting there, you know, with with family and friends and watching that game and just the feeling of it.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_01]: I knew I had watched other games before that, you know, and I'm sure I can remember them to detail, but that one's the ones that really stands out because
- 28:56[SPEAKER_01]: at the time we were living in an apartment building, and every time the 49's would score, some of the people would go running around, like the apartment just screaming and yelling, and it was just an exciting time to kind of be a 49er fan.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_01]: And so I remember that one stands out the most probably in my childhood.
- 29:11[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I love it.
- 29:12[SPEAKER_02]: Right here, sir, Kaiser, the NSC Championship gave for me versus the Rams 89 to 90.
- 29:19[SPEAKER_02]: I love that.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_02]: I freaking love that.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_02]: That is awesome.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_02]: So what we're going to do next is we are going to flip the script.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_02]: We are going to go now to the 49ers offense, what we liked in the past week.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_02]: then what we want to see moving forward versus the cardinals, but you know, I'm going through my bets of the week, which we post every single week on the 49ers rush.com and our Patreon, we're up back to back weeks, which is huge, huge first week, small game second week.
- 29:44[SPEAKER_02]: But, man, I've got a two game teaser that I love right now.
- 29:48[SPEAKER_02]: The 49, it's plus six.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_02]: So, 49ers minus two and a half first, the cards C Hawks minus one and a half first, the commanders, I think that they are just a disaster.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_02]: There are a lot of lopsided matchups this week.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_02]: We'll have all of our bets posted in the next 24 to 48 hours over on that site.
- 30:04[SPEAKER_02]: But if you're going to bet, you got to bet with mybookie.ag.

- 31:32[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_02]: We got some people shared some really fun memory stories of their first games.
- 31:38[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just starring them.
- 31:39[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to wrap the show up with that.
- 31:40[SPEAKER_02]: So if you want to share in the chat, what your first memory shout out to Scott, I love the community, I love the nostalgia that it's like that that's my thing.
- 31:49[SPEAKER_02]: And I say this all the time whenever I was starting,
- 31:52[SPEAKER_02]: The 49ers rush show like I wouldn't sure what to call it.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_02]: And I was like, dude, I want to call it 49ers context 49ers nostalgia.
- 31:59[SPEAKER_02]: And I went 49ers rush.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_02]: I want to change it one day.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sure, but that's okay.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_02]: Hopefully not to play that story.
- 32:07[SPEAKER_02]: Throw that in the chat.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_02]: Let's talk about the 49ers offense first.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_02]: The dolphins.
- 32:14[SPEAKER_02]: five possessions, five touchdowns to start the game.
- 32:17[SPEAKER_02]: You only had two possessions in the first half.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_02]: The dolphins gameplay was to keep the ball away from the 49ers which worked, but you got to stop the 49ers at some point.
- 32:25[SPEAKER_02]: They did not.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_02]: What were some of the things that you liked schematically against the dolphins for the 49ers' offense?
- 32:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, Kyle Shannon in a Brock party really took advantage of the personal groupings of Miami.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_01]: They came out and whenever they got a certain look, a certain personnel grouping, they were like, okay, we're going to throw.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_01]: And the dolphins were set that they were going to come in and stop the 49ers running game.
- 32:48[SPEAKER_01]: after what they had done against Los Angeles, they come out the very first play with a six man front, a six one two, Jeff Hathley being super aggressive trying to take away the run game for now.
- 32:56[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, okay, cool.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_01]: We'll just boot out and find an opportunity to throw the football.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_01]: And what's crazy is that drop by Debo Samuel, if that ball would have been out in front of him, he might have house called are the only person out there was Mike Evans in the corner.
- 33:08[SPEAKER_01]: The 49ers, you know, the way the couch in the hand did it, he waited for them to get into some small personnel
- 33:16[SPEAKER_01]: I thought that that was a good plan.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_01]: Brock Perti was in full control, but Kyle just was doing it again.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it was a different game plan, a different feel entirely been a Los Angeles Rams, but they were executing at such a high level.
- 33:27[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's what's nice about this offense right now.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_01]: Brock Perti's in full control of what's going on.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_01]: And if something does happen, and something does break out, break down like when they had a free Russia coming off the edge, he spins out, makes something happen, off platform throw to Mike Evan to toe taps,
- 33:42[SPEAKER_01]: Ridiculous stuff.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_01]: So I just love the way Kyle Shenan and and Brock pretty really got in and out of place, depending on what the personnel look like and look overall that they got.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I like there is something to the answers are built into the play call and so often early on you get brought up there can can can can and so like man we're going to come out and we're trying to run the ball.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_02]: But if you're coming at us with that six one front, Brock pretty has no qualms throwing the ball on first down, second down, third down, first and ten, backed up on the one inch line.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_02]: He doesn't give a deal.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, he's he's cold blooded, man.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_02]: Cold blooded, it's just like such a big deal to him to just be like, yeah, okay, I'm just going to give what, I'm just going to take what you give me.
- 34:31[SPEAKER_02]: And if you're going to line up that many guys up front,
- 34:34[SPEAKER_02]: I'll check to the past play and I'll throw this ball all day goes 20 of 22, but so many of the big plays were you want to call a modibles flips cans whatever you want to call them
- 34:45[SPEAKER_02]: They were addressed to two, if you're going to line up this way, we're just going to switch the play and do this, and it worked so consistently.
- 34:53[SPEAKER_02]: I liked a lot of the wrinkles.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_02]: They were like, Debo Samuel at full back with his hand in the dirt.
- 34:59[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I was sitting there and I was like, oh, Debo's at full back.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_02]: I'm a full back.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_02]: What am I supposed to do?
- 35:04[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I was so pumped.
- 35:05[SPEAKER_02]: Seals with his hand in the ground.
- 35:07[SPEAKER_02]: This is happening.
- 35:09[SPEAKER_02]: The trips stack, where they stack them vertically, you see that back to back weeks.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_02]: Now it worked and back to back weeks.
- 35:16[SPEAKER_02]: I think it was like third and two or third and four.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_02]: And you have Christian McCaffrey lined up like five yards behind Mike Evans split all the way out by the numbers.
- 35:29[SPEAKER_02]: Debo motions all the way out past them comes back in motion.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_02]: They snap it right when all three are stacked vertically last week against or two weeks ago against the Rams.
- 35:38[SPEAKER_02]: They hit Mike Evans on a wide open curl route.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_02]: This time, it's on tape.
- 35:42[SPEAKER_02]: They run the same route tree out of that formation.
- 35:45[SPEAKER_02]: They overload to the inside.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_02]: And nobody covers christian McAfru's wide open for a third and four flat.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_02]: Like Kyle Shanahan is just building on building on building.
- 35:55[SPEAKER_02]: And that is kind of what makes him special is.
- 35:58[SPEAKER_02]: He's going to show you something once or twice.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_02]: You have to address it in your meetings.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_02]: Look, if they do this, this is what they're trying to do.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_02]: He'll add in a little wrinkle.
- 36:06[SPEAKER_02]: If you over pursue or over correct, he'll take advantage of you elsewhere.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_02]: Like Kyle Shanahan, I said this last year.
- 36:14[SPEAKER_02]: I thought last year was this greatest coaching effort with what he was able to accomplish with all those injuries picked up right where he left off.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_02]: The 49er's offense is second to none in the NFL right now.
- 36:26[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe you talk about Josh Allen and the bills, but Gosh, you can't ask the 40 hours offense to do more than what they've done to this standpoint like I don't know it like what what is it besides just Brock Perti in the offensive line that is making the offense so efficient?
- 36:44[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's the threats.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_01]: You know, Mike Evans is a threat.
- 36:47[SPEAKER_01]: There's when you watch this game, you can find gravity moments.
- 36:51[SPEAKER_01]: Mike Evans out there pulling people and defenders his way and opening it up for Christian McAfrey to catch the ball over the middle of the field.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_01]: And later on,
- 37:00[SPEAKER_01]: you have an opportunity to go somewhere else because Christian McCaffrey is that gravity player.
- 37:03[SPEAKER_01]: And I think one of the instances where you see Brock pretty so used to those gravity players is the week one interception.
- 37:10[SPEAKER_01]: He's expecting that player to come up because McCaffrey's normally the one running the route.
- 37:15[SPEAKER_01]: He's expecting gravity to pull that defender, but it was K-Long Black and they don't have the same respect for K-Long Black right now.
- 37:21[SPEAKER_01]: But having so many of
- 37:25[SPEAKER_01]: small movements.
- 37:26[SPEAKER_01]: Mike Evans is now got players gravitating towards him, same with McAfrey, and that's why things are starting to open up for guys like George Kittle, who's normally a gravity player.
- 37:34[SPEAKER_01]: These guys are pulling defenders where they want them to go, and that's opening things up.
- 37:39[SPEAKER_01]: They just have too many of those guys now that defenses are having a hard time, and they can't risk always jumping in with these cover three buzz type plays where they
- 37:48[SPEAKER_01]: want to take stuff over the middle away, it's getting more difficult because the players can do it all.
- 37:52[SPEAKER_01]: They make them cover every plate of grass and I love that about the offense.
- 37:55[SPEAKER_02]: And the one thing that's exciting about this is like, yeah, the players matter.
- 38:00[SPEAKER_02]: But there were plays where Caterral Hodge, he pulls two defenders deep and George Kiddles left open.
- 38:07[SPEAKER_02]: There's Jacob Cowling pulling two defenders deep.
- 38:09[SPEAKER_02]: Deepos left wide open underneath.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, Mike Evans, Christian McCaffer, these guys are gonna draw and I love the gravity turn by the way.
- 38:18[SPEAKER_02]: They're going to draw those guys to them.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_02]: But the fact that Shanahan knows the defensive rules and can manipulate them with caderal hodge and take up cowing, taking down and played 24 snaps didn't even get a target.
- 38:29[SPEAKER_02]: Didn't matter, he still had a huge positive impact because of his speed and the Shanahan spacing and understanding what the defense is trying to do.
- 38:38[SPEAKER_02]: There is some hope in the fact, especially with this cardinal secondary, which is some part, it's at least.
- 38:45[SPEAKER_02]: There is some hope that even though the 49ers wide receivers are falling like flies, you can still create this movement and spacing because you still do have McAfrey, you still do have Diibo, you still do have Kittle, I do fully expect Mike Evans to play.
- 39:02[SPEAKER_02]: And then you throw in a couple, I don't wanna say like junk pieces,
- 39:06[SPEAKER_02]: auxiliary pieces and Coween, Brandon Cooks will see what he's got, and Cadero Hodge, let's spend a moment on that to bridge our conversation to the future here.
- 39:18[SPEAKER_02]: Which five receivers do you see being up this week in Dress?
- 39:21[SPEAKER_02]: Does Jacob Coween finally get his suit out?
- 39:24[SPEAKER_02]: Does Brandon Cooks take his spot?
- 39:25[SPEAKER_02]: Do you see Mike Evans playing this week?
- 39:28[SPEAKER_02]: What are your thoughts on those?
- 39:31[SPEAKER_01]: I do think Mike Evans is going to play.
- 39:33[SPEAKER_01]: I think that, you know, kind of the way that they've been handling him, they're just managing him.
- 39:37[SPEAKER_01]: I think he could have played through that game if they really needed him.
- 39:40[SPEAKER_01]: I, so I think Mike Evans is going to go, we know Debo is going to go.
- 39:43[SPEAKER_01]: I think Kadero Hodge, of course, will be one of those guys, special teams wise.
- 39:47[SPEAKER_01]: He's needed.
- 39:47[SPEAKER_01]: He can also do some things, you know, catching the football.
- 39:50[SPEAKER_01]: And then I think when you look at the other guys, it's going to be determined.
- 39:52[SPEAKER_01]: But Jacob, Jacob Cowling will be ready to go and he'll probably have a bigger role in this offense.
- 40:01[SPEAKER_01]: that, you know, it was unlikely that he was going to be playing in this game.
- 40:05[SPEAKER_01]: And so, I think that there's a situation where you might end up seeing Jordan Watkins for the first time this season.
- 40:12[SPEAKER_01]: And I know for a fact that they, they want Brandon Cooks to play this week, but it's a tough ass to ask somebody to learn this offense and get ready to go.
- 40:20[SPEAKER_01]: But we'll see, Brandon Cooks is the kind of guy that's maniacal about, hey, I want to learn everything.
- 40:24[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe he can McAfrey this thing,
- 40:29[SPEAKER_01]: Because you're not going to learn the whole offense.
- 40:31[SPEAKER_01]: All you got to learn is the game plan this week where to line up what to do.
- 40:34[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that there is a thought that if he could get ready and I like what Kyle said.
- 40:38[SPEAKER_01]: If he's one of the top five or wide receivers, he's going to play.
- 40:40[SPEAKER_01]: I think there's still an outside chance.
- 40:42[SPEAKER_01]: But I kind of think maybe they wait one week, even though I would love to see Brandon cooks out there in some manner.
- 40:49[SPEAKER_01]: Because he just runs vertically and he's going to put the fear of God into those safety's bootabakers going to have to turn his hips and run right away.
- 40:55[SPEAKER_01]: Or cooks is going to have it a big explosive down the field.
- 40:58[SPEAKER_02]: Man, I remember watching Cooks at Oregon State.
- 41:01[SPEAKER_02]: He's a stock to kid, I love that.
- 41:03[SPEAKER_02]: But some guys, you just knew we're gonna be really good.
- 41:08[SPEAKER_02]: And I don't think Cooks was ever all pro-type guy or best in the NFL, but some guys just have it.
- 41:14[SPEAKER_02]: And can do a little bit of everything.
- 41:16[SPEAKER_02]: And he's put together such an awesome career, close to 10,000 yards.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_02]: I think he's gonna get that with the Niners.
- 41:22[SPEAKER_02]: I think he's like 187 yards away or something like that.
- 41:25[SPEAKER_02]: I think he's got to get there and we will see cooks even if it's not this week.
- 41:28[SPEAKER_02]: So you're projecting walkins.
- 41:30[SPEAKER_02]: You think walkins is going to dress?
- 41:33[SPEAKER_01]: I think if cooks isn't elevated for the game, the walkins will be activated for the game.
- 41:38[SPEAKER_01]: And some of that could be Ramello height.
- 41:41[SPEAKER_01]: You know, some of the decision about maybe needing an extra defensive and extra defensive line bodies that prevent burning cooks from being there.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_01]: I know Kyle
- 41:49[SPEAKER_01]: Shane and once Brandon cooks there, you know, they had an hour-long zoom call, you know, and the thing is, he was really trying to get Brandon cooks in there and I know he wants it because he can run all the routes and they need somebody that can do the democracy's robins and stuff.
- 42:04[SPEAKER_01]: And Brandon cooks can do that stuff.
- 42:05[SPEAKER_01]: He's a
- 42:06[SPEAKER_01]: very good route runner.
- 42:08[SPEAKER_01]: And so I think they want him there, but yeah, if he's not going to be elevated for this game, Jordan Walkkins is going to dress and it'll be the first look at number 17 and see what he can do.
- 42:16[SPEAKER_01]: I still think, can Darrell Hodges snap silver Jordan Walkkins though.
- 42:18[SPEAKER_01]: I really do.
- 42:19[SPEAKER_01]: I think they go cowling as the third guy and then can Darrell Hodges wide or super four.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we'll see.
- 42:25[SPEAKER_02]: We'll see what happens.
- 42:26[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, let's let's stay moving forward.
- 42:33[SPEAKER_02]: what's you want to see the 49ers offense do versus the Cardinals, but if you're going to any 49ers road games, got to come party with us 49ers rush road trip dot com 49ers rush road trip is going into its sixth year with over 40 events at road games if you are traveling to see the 49ers play this year, you got to come party with us and on top of that,

- 43:32[SPEAKER_02]: We got you covered 49ers rushroadtrip.com.
- 43:41[SPEAKER_02]: appreciate you captain he says eight no party like a rush party can't wait to be with you in Seattle and he says does my book you work in Washington yes it does I place my bets there all the time I've been to I think the last six
- 43:55[SPEAKER_02]: seven games in Seattle.
- 43:57[SPEAKER_02]: This will be eight games.
- 43:58[SPEAKER_02]: I African love going.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_02]: I love one of my favorite things where the schedule comes out and I look for that Seattle at Seattle game and I pray it is early in the year.
- 44:09[SPEAKER_02]: It is the worst going there when it's freezing cold but that stadium that city is a good time.
- 44:13[SPEAKER_02]: I love how loud it gets in there.
- 44:16[SPEAKER_02]: It's a good one.
- 44:16[SPEAKER_02]: All right, let's talk to about the Cardinals.
- 44:19[SPEAKER_02]: What do you want to see the 49ers offense do versus the Cardinals?
- 44:24[SPEAKER_02]: You're so damn good and efficient.
- 44:25[SPEAKER_02]: You just keep doing what you do.
- 44:27[SPEAKER_02]: You want any adjustments.
- 44:29[SPEAKER_02]: Is there a certain thing you want to attack against the Cardinals, the floor is yours.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think the offense is just kind of continue doing what they're doing.
- 44:37[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it is taking what the defense.
- 44:40[SPEAKER_01]: is giving.
- 44:40[SPEAKER_01]: And with the amount of talent that they have, it's just about execution.
- 44:44[SPEAKER_01]: And I think Kyle Shaney and right now gets a really good feel for what these defenses are doing.
- 44:48[SPEAKER_01]: And it's about the play action game.
- 44:50[SPEAKER_01]: I love the fact that we're seeing Brock pretty under center.
- 44:53[SPEAKER_01]: We're getting some of that boot game, some of that action.
- 44:55[SPEAKER_01]: He's getting outside the pocket and finding these open receivers.
- 44:58[SPEAKER_01]: I think that has been good.
- 44:59[SPEAKER_01]: The threat of Brock pretty legs has been putting a little bit more pressure on defenses.
- 45:03[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that it's just got to be a continuation of that.
- 45:05[SPEAKER_01]: I think at some point, these defenses are going to have to take some chances.
- 45:09[SPEAKER_01]: And when they do, you're going to get some more of these, you know, big-time plays.
- 45:12[SPEAKER_01]: But think about what they did in week one.
- 45:14[SPEAKER_01]: They took what the Rams were giving them.
- 45:15[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of passes underneath, let the playmakers make some plays.
- 45:18[SPEAKER_01]: Just convert on third down, move the sticks.
- 45:21[SPEAKER_01]: And then the next week against the dolphins, everything was over 10 yards it felt like.
- 45:25[SPEAKER_01]: And every receiver, average over 10 yards per reception.
- 45:29[SPEAKER_01]: that is the method just take what the defense is giving the defense comes out with a motivated to stop the run.
- 45:34[SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's great.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to throw it on.
- 45:36[SPEAKER_01]: If they come out and they want to sit back and try to protect, you know, not give up any big plays in the passing game.
- 45:41[SPEAKER_01]: We'll then run it down their throat with K-Long black and Christian McAfrey.
- 45:45[SPEAKER_01]: I think this isn't you don't have to think it, you know, think about it too much.
- 45:48[SPEAKER_01]: You just go out there and execute.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that they can do that.
- 45:50[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's the kind of the game plan right now.
- 45:52[SPEAKER_01]: Just take what they're going to give you.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, like the one thing whenever I'm personnel in the Cardinals and watching their tape, I'm like, dude, this is the perfect team to go 11 personnel against because that means they sub-out saving Collins, they bring in key trail Clark, who I take has a lot of deficiencies in his game.
- 46:09[SPEAKER_02]: But with all the 49ers wide receiver injuries, I don't think that's what the 9ers you're gonna do.
- 46:15[SPEAKER_02]: But man, you look at the roster.
- 46:16[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just like, dude, this is like the perfect 11 personnel defense.
- 46:21[SPEAKER_02]: But it, whatever, don't do that.
- 46:23[SPEAKER_02]: I do wanna see more screens.
- 46:25[SPEAKER_02]: You ran 30% of your offense with screens week one, only 4% of your offense and plays with screens week two.
- 46:31[SPEAKER_02]: Bring some of that back to some of those high,
- 46:35[SPEAKER_02]: efficiency plays, race right here.
- 46:38[SPEAKER_02]: And are you wary of Kyle force feeding depot?
- 46:41[SPEAKER_02]: Debo's only had 11 touches through two weeks, but he might be the only healthy wide receiver you got out there.
- 46:48[SPEAKER_02]: What are your thoughts?
- 46:49[SPEAKER_02]: Debo touch.
- 46:50[SPEAKER_02]: What would you say?
- 46:51[SPEAKER_02]: How many Debo touches is too many this week?
- 46:55[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think he's going to force feed him.
- 46:57[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what too much would be.
- 46:59[SPEAKER_01]: I think if you got
- 47:02[SPEAKER_01]: 13 to 15.
- 47:03[SPEAKER_01]: I think that would be too much for Debo for sure.
- 47:06[SPEAKER_01]: But I don't think that's going to happen.
- 47:07[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's Brock pretty is just looking for everyone.
- 47:10[SPEAKER_01]: If you look at week one week to seven
- 47:13[SPEAKER_01]: different receivers touch the ball.
- 47:15[SPEAKER_01]: And that's the thing they have so many weapons, but calf for use check, kiddo, although get the ball to look fair, oh my, there's too many guys.
- 47:21[SPEAKER_01]: He's not afraid to rip it to get air, oh, odds.
- 47:23[SPEAKER_01]: Like he is definitely comfortable with all these receivers.
- 47:27[SPEAKER_01]: It's not like in years past where all of a sudden, Jordan Mason's out, and he like, well, you know, he's not going to throw it to him.
- 47:32[SPEAKER_01]: Brock, pretty doesn't have that.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_01]: If it's K-Lon black whoever it is, he's going to throw him the football.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_01]: So,
- 47:36[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not really worried about forced feeding debo.
- 47:39[SPEAKER_01]: I think you will see a little bit more of debo in the game plan this week because of the injuries, so expect the touches to rise, but I don't think it's going to be anything where he's forced feeding, and I think that's just what the game calls for, and the 49ers know they got to kind of bridge the gap until they get Brennan cooks ready, they can get Christian Kirkback, and then they can go back to completely spreading it around, but I think debo is going to have weeks where it's a big volume, and weeks where it's a low volume.
- 48:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and this could be a high volume week.
- 48:04[SPEAKER_02]: I have no problem starting in fantasy.
- 48:07[SPEAKER_02]: They're probably going to place a couple of bets on his overyards, rushing and receiving.
- 48:12[SPEAKER_02]: We'll see how that looks.
- 48:13[SPEAKER_02]: He's just, he's going to be out there a lot from a boy Sierra, I'm pretty sure I miss pronounced that one.
- 48:21[SPEAKER_02]: But he says, let's talk about how we defeat the Cardinals with our third ride, a wide receiver as our number one, no run stuffing defensive tackles, trade,
- 48:31[SPEAKER_02]: Look, it's not pretty.
- 48:33[SPEAKER_02]: It's not pretty for the Cardinals either.
- 48:34[SPEAKER_02]: They've got offensive line issues.
- 48:36[SPEAKER_02]: They've got cornerback issues.
- 48:38[SPEAKER_02]: They've got defensive end pass rush issues as far as entries go.
- 48:42[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the $40 the most inter team in the NFL.
- 48:45[SPEAKER_02]: This is just what it's going to be.
- 48:47[SPEAKER_02]: It's what it is.
- 48:47[SPEAKER_02]: And the Niners with what they went through last year in the entries, I thought was more significant than what they're going through now because they haven't missed any of their all
- 48:59[SPEAKER_02]: You're a better team.
- 49:00[SPEAKER_02]: You're a better coach team.
- 49:01[SPEAKER_02]: You're a better roster.
- 49:03[SPEAKER_02]: You've got more permanent pieces in place.
- 49:06[SPEAKER_02]: And there's a reason why this is the second largest spread according to Vegas of the week.
- 49:10[SPEAKER_02]: You should win this game.
- 49:12[SPEAKER_02]: You're at home.
- 49:14[SPEAKER_02]: Not that Levi's brings much of a, you know, I saw that Kyle Shedian has a losing record at home and divisional games at Levi's, but a crazy win record.
- 49:23[SPEAKER_02]: I don't have these act numbers of front of me on the road, which
- 49:27[SPEAKER_02]: kind of a testament to Levi's.
- 49:28[SPEAKER_02]: It's not not a very good stadium.
- 49:30[SPEAKER_02]: Doesn't bring a lot of home field advantage to to the game itself.
- 49:34[SPEAKER_02]: But I don't know.
- 49:35[SPEAKER_02]: It any comments here that you want to highlight as far as the 49ers advantage despite wide receiver injuries, defensive tackle issues and the run game for the Cardinals?
- 49:46[SPEAKER_01]: I think you made a good point about yeah yeah they're losing some depth.
- 49:50[SPEAKER_01]: but this this team was very built when it came to depth, and you still have Mike Evans, you still have T-Boast Samuel.
- 49:56[SPEAKER_01]: Those are one and two wide receivers around the league.
- 49:58[SPEAKER_01]: Like these guys are are very good at what they do.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_01]: You still have McAfrey, you still have Kittle, rock peries playing at such a high level.
- 50:05[SPEAKER_01]: And one underrated fact that no one is really paying attention to this offensive line is playing like a top five unit right now.
- 50:12[SPEAKER_01]: other playing so well Connor Kobe has been phenomenal and so you got a situation where as long as those guys can keep rock pretty up right I don't care who's out there it feels like he's going to find the open guy or make something happen so it's it's just a testament to how good rock pretty is but that offensive line is really done a good job I think they do have the requisite
- 50:31[SPEAKER_01]: You know, personnel to get things done.
- 50:33[SPEAKER_01]: I think the 49er fans, we just have PTSD because there's been so many injuries But this team they they own that next man up mentality and at some point those reinforcements are gonna come back We have a lot of guys on IR the hope is everyone else to stay healthy when those guys come back You get back the full strength by week 10 week 11 and you can really make that push for the playoffs when it really matters
- 50:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's what I like to.
- 50:55[SPEAKER_02]: Now, I said we would wrap up today's show with a couple stories.
- 50:58[SPEAKER_02]: Shout out to my main Gabriel.
- 51:00[SPEAKER_02]: His first memory of a 49ers game was 1990 NFC Championship game against the Giants as a kid.
- 51:07[SPEAKER_02]: Watch a Montana get hurt.
- 51:09[SPEAKER_02]: Rect me.
- 51:10[SPEAKER_02]: I hate the Giants.
- 51:11[SPEAKER_02]: I hate the Giants.
- 51:12[SPEAKER_02]: I hate the Giants.
- 51:14[SPEAKER_02]: You've got the Kyle Williams crap.
- 51:16[SPEAKER_02]: you've even got the Roger Craig fumble, that was against the giants, right?
- 51:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it was like, it was that same game.
- 51:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it was that same game.
- 51:23[SPEAKER_02]: And so, yeah, I just freaking hate the giants, dude.
- 51:28[SPEAKER_02]: I mean Augusta, I just don't like them.
- 51:31[SPEAKER_02]: And so.
- 51:32[SPEAKER_02]: I understand why the history of it's pretty rough and Scott, shout out to Scott.
- 51:37[SPEAKER_02]: He started this whole conversation with the nostalgia he says, I was 11 in 1981 and that took me to candlestick, haven't missed but a handful of games since.
- 51:47[SPEAKER_02]: It's a little thing's been and you know, when we do
- 51:50[SPEAKER_02]: The 49ers rush road trip kids are free to every single event and you know I tell my staff no kid leaves empty handed they leave with a shirt a towel a card jersey something because like that tangible whatever that creates the faithful of the future and we all go back and myself nine like Scott was 11 here.
- 52:15[SPEAKER_02]: I think that that's huge.
- 52:16[SPEAKER_02]: And I just love that we get to share that.
- 52:18[SPEAKER_02]: And so if you get extend that and bring in more fans, come on now, what's better than that?
- 52:23[SPEAKER_02]: What's better than that?
- 52:25[SPEAKER_02]: And as we walk out of here, another successful show compliments to you as always, what are some closing remarks or thoughts that you have before we wrap up our conversation on the coach approaches Thursday?
- 52:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think that this game sets up nice for the 49ers.
- 52:41[SPEAKER_01]: And I understand, everyone's kind of waiting for the other suited drop last week, trap game possibilities and everyone was kind of getting blown up because we were saying, hey, they're going to take care of business in a big way.
- 52:51[SPEAKER_01]: And I think they'll probably be some of the same thoughts this week.
- 52:54[SPEAKER_01]: I do believe the Arizona Cardinals are playing better than the Miami Dolphins.
- 52:58[SPEAKER_01]: I think this game is going to be a little bit more tough for the 49ers and more well-contested.
- 53:03[SPEAKER_01]: But I do think the 49ers are just a cut above.
- 53:06[SPEAKER_01]: Even though they went 12 and 5 last year and competed with some of those top teams, this team is a lot better than that team was last year.
- 53:13[SPEAKER_01]: And the optimism is realistic.
- 53:15[SPEAKER_01]: And so I'm excited to see what they do.
- 53:17[SPEAKER_01]: And I feel like Kyle Shantahan, where he Morris surprised me every week with something that they do schematically.
- 53:23[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm excited to see what they do again.
- 53:26[SPEAKER_01]: I love the coordinators, whether it's Chantahan, where he Morris, or
- 53:30[SPEAKER_01]: Brand-boyer and brand-boyer that special teams took a little step back last week They need to go and and you know make something happen this week I think they will I think Eddie Pinedero kick is kick off a little bit better So feel position isn't so bad, but I'm excited to see what they do in this and I do think the 49ers are gonna handle business against errors on the cardinals
- 53:48[SPEAKER_02]: I think so too.
- 53:48[SPEAKER_02]: Division games are always hard.
- 53:51[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think that this is a good cardinal team.
- 53:52[SPEAKER_02]: I do think that they are better than the dolphins, but it's still, this is a bottom five roster in the NFL.
- 54:01[SPEAKER_02]: And it's division.
- 54:01[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to be dirty.
- 54:02[SPEAKER_02]: I like that there's going to be a game this year where the Niners lose a game that they should have won.
- 54:08[SPEAKER_02]: That happens across the NFL to every single team.
- 54:11[SPEAKER_02]: That is going to happen.
- 54:12[SPEAKER_02]: Is this game
- 54:16[SPEAKER_02]: Things go weird is a weird shape ball sometime it bounces weird sometimes penalties don't be called injuries change takes up turnovers like that those things happen but
- 54:27[SPEAKER_02]: looking at the box score and you kind of this team versus that team, I just don't see it.
- 54:33[SPEAKER_02]: You have the coaching advantage, the roster advantage, the all pro advantage, home field advantage, you got it all and I think that's going to be there.
- 54:39[SPEAKER_02]: And just want to say thank you everybody that watched you guys are one of one.
- 54:42[SPEAKER_02]: Appreciate y'all allowing us to do this and that's going to do it for us today.
- 54:46[SPEAKER_02]: Until next time, go make some awesome 49ers memories and until
