- 0:00Welcome to Tabernacle Talk. Tabernacle Talk is a Bible study
- 0:03podcast brought from Tabernacle Baptist Church in Essex, MD.
- 0:07I'm your host, Brian Self. We hope this podcast encourages
- 0:10you to know Christ, grow in his word and show his love to
- 0:14others. Let's dive right in.
- 0:15Welcome back to Tabernacle Talk. Today we are in a super
- 0:18interesting Ask Anything episode and I got to let you know today
- 0:23is a little bit deeper. So if you're like, listen, I
- 0:26just need a surface level thing for today.
- 0:29Well, actually, I'll, I'll give you a surface level thing that
- 0:33you can have for today before I answer the particular question.
- 0:37The topic for today is the incarnation of Jesus.
- 0:40That is that God the Son came into human history, that He took
- 0:47on human flesh in the person of Jesus, and He was born of the
- 0:53Virgin Mary. He lived a perfect, sinless
- 0:56life. He died for our sins.
- 0:58He was crucified and buried. He rose again in the power of
- 1:02the Holy Spirit. He walked on this earth for 40
- 1:07days, was seen by over 500 people at one time.
- 1:13He was seen by His disciples, He was seen by His half brothers
- 1:20according to the flesh, and then at the end of 40 days he
- 1:24ascended into heaven and is seated on the right hand of God
- 1:28on high. From there he will come to judge
- 1:32the living and the dead, and he will reign forever and ever on
- 1:37the throne of his Father David. That is the message of the
- 1:42gospel, and it is the story of God coming to us.
- 1:48And so let me say just right at the beginning.
- 1:50And then if you only have a little bit of time today, you
- 1:53can dip right after this because Jesus became human.
- 1:58He knows what you're going through today.
- 2:00He knows your hardships and so you can call out to him and he's
- 2:05not just going to like lend you aid as you navigate through
- 2:11emotions and hardships in your life and fighting with sin.
- 2:14He's he's not just going to help you through his spirit.
- 2:19No, he actually knows. He's felt the hurts, he has felt
- 2:25the outside, you know, temptations to send, that Satan
- 2:30tried to get him to do bad things, and other people
- 2:32throughout Jesus's life tried to get him to do bad things.
- 2:35He knows what it is to experience external temptation
- 2:39or to go through personal grief or loss or anger.
- 2:43And he did it all right. He did it all good.
- 2:48And so you can trust that when He is helping you, He's not
- 2:52helping you out disinterestedly. He knows experientially what it
- 2:58is for you to go through. And He loves and cares about
- 3:01you. And so He will help you today.
- 3:03He will help you eagerly. You are his child.
- 3:06You are his blood but possession.
- 3:09And so know that you're Jesus is for you.
- 3:13And that even to me, just right at the start of this, if I had
- 3:17to stop it right there, man, that's an encouragement to me
- 3:19that Jesus will help me. And he helps me eagerly knowing
- 3:24what I've been through. One of my favorite things as a
- 3:27pastor is when someone has a question about the Bible or
- 3:32something that I have had personally, and then I'm like,
- 3:35oh sweet, I've been there. I've walked down that path,
- 3:39walked down the path with me because this is something I'm
- 3:42excited about and Jesus doing that with us in our lives that
- 3:47he goes, I've walked through every path that you would walk
- 3:51down and I know the right way to do it.
- 3:53And so I can help you in every circumstance of your life.
- 3:58So that's kind of the cookies on the bottom shelf thing for you
- 4:02today. Now we're going to dive in deep.
- 4:05Got a call from one of my good friends back at my church in
- 4:09Washington and him and his wife, they've been talking about
- 4:14sharing their faith and hard questions and things.
- 4:17And one of the questions that they had talked about was
- 4:21Jesus's incarnation. And the specific way that it was
- 4:26kind of phrased was God. And I believe I'm phrasing this
- 4:31correctly and you guys can let me know if I didn't phrase your
- 4:35question correctly after this. So they said, OK, well, you have
- 4:39God is is 1. He's, he's unified all
- 4:44throughout eternity past. And then as Jesus comes to
- 4:49earth, you have for the first time this kind of like
- 4:54separation in the Trinity and that then Jesus, you know, he
- 4:59lives his life on earth. He, he dies buried, risen, and
- 5:03then he comes back to heaven. And so they wondered about some
- 5:07of that, what was perceived to be a breaking of an eternal
- 5:14unity and cohesion that there was in the Godhead.
- 5:20And I just thought that was such an interesting look and a great
- 5:25thing to ponder. The Trinity is, if you will,
- 5:29it's the core of the Christian faith.
- 5:33Some people, I was even talking to some of my friends yesterday
- 5:37or the day before and they had mentioned a loved one that is
- 5:42part of a religious group that kind of sort of claims
- 5:46Christianity to some extent or another, but denies the Trinity,
- 5:51denies the persons of Father, Son and Spirit, and that these
- 5:56three are one. And any group that would deny
- 6:02the Trinity is not a Christian and actually Christian group, or
- 6:09if you will, denomination, that would actually be one of the
- 6:13things that would differentiate between a Christian denomination
- 6:18and a cult or just another religion.
- 6:22So if you have some of the groups that like the Mormons or
- 6:28the Jehovah's Witnesses or Oneness Pentecostals, which is a
- 6:34very particular subset of Pentecostalism, most, most
- 6:39Pentecostals, including all the ones that I've known in my life,
- 6:42are firm believers in the Trinity and love the persons, a
- 6:45father, son and Holy Spirit. But the the Mormons, Jehovah's
- 6:50Witnesses and and Oneness Pentecostals, among other groups
- 6:55that specifically deny the Trinity, they have more issues
- 6:59than just that, but they are not Christians.
- 7:04That's not in a like, hey, I, I personally think this and here's
- 7:08who I think gets to be in heaven as a result of their goodness.
- 7:13No, that is the historic Christian faith so that to deny
- 7:18what Jesus says like you can look back at the Great
- 7:22Commission and Jesus commands us to baptize in the name of the
- 7:25Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
- 7:29And all throughout the New Testament is outline this
- 7:34wonderful mysterious truth that our God is 1 and we confess with
- 7:40ancient Israel from the book of Deuteronomy.
- 7:42Hear O Israel, Yahweh our God is 1.
- 7:48We also confess with 2000 years of Christians and then even the
- 7:54the Jewish believers prior to the advent of Jesus.
- 8:00They recognize that within the Old Testament there were hints
- 8:07about the fact that God could be in heaven, unseen, totally
- 8:13unattainable, like he tells, like God tells Moses on Mount
- 8:19Sinai, no one can see my face and live.
- 8:23And yet we're told at various times that the messenger of
- 8:28Yahweh, the Angel of the Lord, is one that speaks from the
- 8:32mouth of God. And that those that interact
- 8:35with the messenger of Yahweh, the Angel of the Lord, they talk
- 8:40about the fact that they have seen God.
- 8:42You can think about Samson's parents.
- 8:44You can look at Abraham's interaction with someone there
- 8:52at I think it's Genesis 18, right before the story of Sodom
- 8:56and Gomorrah, that there's the three men.
- 8:58The two men are angels, messengers that interact with
- 9:04Lot and with the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah.
- 9:07But then you have this other one that is identified as God, as
- 9:12Yahweh, that Abraham is conversing with him, he has a
- 9:15conversation with him, and yet Abraham lives.
- 9:17So in Second Temple Judaism, it's what was sometimes called
- 9:23like the the two Yahweh's or the 2 Lords, that's the
- 9:27tetragrammaton YHWH. And so you have on earth at
- 9:34times, this messenger of Yahweh who doesn't just say this is
- 9:38what the Lord says. It's someone actually speaking
- 9:42as though they have the authority of God himself.
- 9:49And that the messenger of Yahweh receives worship from people
- 9:53that they fall down on the face, they they worship him, He
- 9:57converses with them and it from all appearances appears to be
- 10:03God himself. But there is also an invisible
- 10:07in heaven, in the skies, Yahweh that is not seen and is
- 10:12specifically, specifically tells people that he cannot be seen.
- 10:19So the Trinity is not just a OK, the Christians came along and
- 10:25they were trying to figure some stuff out and they might have
- 10:29made a wonky formula. No, this was something that was
- 10:32already present from scripture in the Old Testament by the
- 10:37Jewish people prior to when Jesus showed up on the scene.
- 10:41And so Jesus shows up and he gives us the fullest picture and
- 10:47both from his words as I've been walking through the Gospel of
- 10:51John, this is something that John in his Gospel account
- 10:55spends a lot of time talking about was Jesus's conversing
- 10:59about the Father, about his relationship with the Father and
- 11:03about the Holy Spirit that he would send to the disciples
- 11:07after he would have sent. So I want to toss us back real
- 11:11quick to first Timothy chapter three and verse #16 First
- 11:17Timothy 316. So we were just in there a week
- 11:20or two ago where it says God was manifest in the flesh, justified
- 11:26in the Spirit, preached on in the world, believed on or sorry,
- 11:30preached among the nations, believed on in the world,
- 11:33received up into glory. That what we are told is that
- 11:37God was manifest in the flesh. And it is not that when Jesus
- 11:43came to earth in the womb of the Virgin Mary, it is not that
- 11:48heaven was then abandoned and there was no sovereign up there.
- 11:51No, the Father was there as he had been from eternity past, and
- 11:57the Spirit was there. Part of the fun of the this
- 12:03might sound weird to some of you, part of the fun of the
- 12:06Trinity is that there is a relational, communal, loving
- 12:12aspect of our triune God that he did not need us at any point in
- 12:21time like they didn't need. I technically don't know if it
- 12:26is more theologically accurate. You guys are on Tabernacle talk.
- 12:30I don't think I'm taking a, you know, orthodoxy test when I'm
- 12:35with with you guys. I don't know if it's more
- 12:39accurate to say they as in persons of Father, Son and spear
- 12:42or just he because it is our one God.
- 12:47That's part of the trippiness of it.
- 12:49So God did not need us in order to show love or kindness or to
- 12:59have any of his benevolence, to have an outlet like all
- 13:05throughout eternity past, the Father has loved the Son.
- 13:09And in kind of ancient Christian thought, the way that they
- 13:16phrased it was like the Holy Spirit is this person who is the
- 13:21love of the Father and the Son being passed back and forth to
- 13:26one another. That there is communal love and
- 13:30joy and honoring that happens. That has always happened from
- 13:35all eternity past and will be into all eternity future.
- 13:39That God is love. And that as we're going to look
- 13:44at in just one second, because I did want to highlight for us
- 13:48some of the language of the Apostles Creed, the Nicene
- 13:53Creed, and the Athanasian Creed that really give us some good
- 13:59verbiage to think about the incarnation of Jesus in line
- 14:04with what Scripture says about it.
- 14:06So all eternity past God is love, and He cares for the
- 14:13Father, cares for the Son, cares for the Spirit who cares for the
- 14:16Father. There's just this communal joy
- 14:19that is there. But what we are told is that, as
- 14:24in Galatians 4, when the fullness of time was come, when
- 14:28the right moment in history was there, that moment that had been
- 14:32prophesied all the way back in Genesis 315, that the seed of
- 14:36the woman would crush the head of the serpent that had plunged
- 14:41the human race into death and destruction and sin as a result
- 14:46of his temptation. And so the seed of the woman
- 14:48would come and crush the head of the serpent.
- 14:51Not only that, but there was the one that would be the seed of
- 14:55Abraham. And Paul tells us in Galatians 3
- 14:58and 4, not seeds, seed of Abraham, that this promise was
- 15:03to, that all the nations of the world would be blessed through
- 15:07this seed of Abraham. And then we're also told that
- 15:13there would be a prophet like Moses that everyone would need
- 15:17to listen to in order for in order to have a relationship
- 15:21with God. We're told that from the line of
- 15:23Judah there would be a person who would be the ruler over
- 15:26Israel. We're told in Second Samuel 7
- 15:30that a descendant from the seed of David would sit on his throne
- 15:36forever and would rule forever. And so Jesus, in the perfect
- 15:41time in human history, he came down.
- 15:45And this is such a miracle, Jesus when he came.
- 15:51This is where I'm going to turn over to the creeds for some of
- 15:54our helpful language. I'll reference for you some of
- 15:56the verses that these Christians back in the like 3 and 4
- 16:02hundreds, the verses that they had in mind as they put these
- 16:06lines together. So the Apostles Creed says this.
- 16:10I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and
- 16:14earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his
- 16:17only begotten Son, our Lord. So the phrase begotten comes
- 16:22from Psalm 2 where the Lord speaking to the Messiah says you
- 16:29are my Son today. I have begotten you, I, I have
- 16:34birthed you. This is not the way we often
- 16:38talk about like I, I don't my, my son beat this past Sunday
- 16:45from the time that I'm recording this.
- 16:48He had his birthday on March 15th and it was just a wonderful
- 16:53day. But I don't say like son,
- 16:55congratulations, you know, happy begotten day.
- 16:59It's a very much older phrase, but what we are told in
- 17:04Scripture is that this begottenness is not that he was
- 17:08created. It's specified over and over and
- 17:10over again in Colossians One and First Timothy and thousand other
- 17:15places that Jesus did not have a beginning.
- 17:19As we read in John one, in the beginning was the Word, and the
- 17:24Word was with God, and the Word was God.
- 17:28The same was in the beginning with God.
- 17:32All things were made by him, and without Him was not anything
- 17:36made that was made. So it's very clear in Scripture
- 17:41Jesus is not created. We are also told Jesus is the
- 17:47only begotten son of God. So begotten comes from 2 Greek
- 17:54words monogenes. That is, it's one-of-a-kind.
- 17:58It's totally unique. So Isaac is called the only
- 18:03begotten son of Abraham. We know that Isaac was not
- 18:09Abraham's only son. He is the unique son.
- 18:13He is the son that has a particular purpose.
- 18:16So we would even read in some different ancient Near Eastern
- 18:21like court records, this was a common way to talk about the
- 18:27king coronating the next king in line, if you will.
- 18:34God the Father is never going to pass away.
- 18:37That's that's not the kind of circumstance that we're talking
- 18:40about. But here he is eternally
- 18:44crowning Jesus as the Son, the ruler of all, and he is
- 18:53constantly doing that. So this is what's called the
- 18:58eternal begetting of the Son. I don't think I'm going to go
- 19:03into a whole lot more detail on that other than to highlight one
- 19:07thing that I heard very recently on the Bible Project podcast
- 19:11that was helpful to give an illustration of what I mean by
- 19:13the eternal begetting. So there was no initial day when
- 19:18God the Father said to God the Son, you are my son today.
- 19:22I have begotten you that. That has been an always thing
- 19:25that all the way back in the past, God the Father was
- 19:29honoring God the Son and giving him all things.
- 19:31And all the way into the future, God the Father will honor God
- 19:34the Son and give him all things. So at Jesus's baptism we have
- 19:40that heaven's open spirit descends on Jesus, and God the
- 19:45Father from heaven says, this is my Son in whom I am well
- 19:50pleased. Ditto at the Mount of
- 19:53Transfiguration that Peter's like, hey, we've got Moses and
- 19:58Elijah and Jesus here, let's make 3 tabernacles, tents,
- 20:01booths for you guys to honor you.
- 20:04Let's, you know, make 3 tabernacles for you guys.
- 20:07And all of a sudden the Father speaks from heaven and says,
- 20:10this is my beloved son, hear him, like listen to Jesus.
- 20:17And then we're told in Acts it's either four or five, Peter.
- 20:24Recounting what happened with Jesus references Psalm 2 and
- 20:29Jesus's begottenness by the Father that Christ was
- 20:37proclaimed to be the begotten Son when he rose from the dead,
- 20:43which we also read in Romans chapter one that the Apostle
- 20:47Paul highlights that for us. So just as Jesus is proclaimed
- 20:53at his baptism at the Mount of Transfiguration in his
- 20:56resurrection to be the ruling Son of God over all of the
- 21:01nations, so it has been in all eternity past and all eternity
- 21:06future that God the Father has honored God the Son.
- 21:10So he says, I believe. Oh, sorry, I, I, I took a long
- 21:13time on that. I love this topic.
- 21:15And if you were still here, I gave you a chance to get out at
- 21:18like 4 minutes in. So you're in it with me.
- 21:21He says, I believe in Jesus Christ, his only begotten son,
- 21:24our Lord, the our master, the one that is in charge of us,
- 21:28says who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin
- 21:34Mary. There's more that's within the
- 21:36Apostles Creed, but that's the portion that I wanted to talk
- 21:40about right now. That Jesus was conceived by the
- 21:43Holy Spirit, that God, Father, Son and Spirit creates like he
- 21:50is the creator God. And it's not that creation is
- 21:55relegated over to OK, well, the son is over creation, the
- 22:00Father's over something else and the Spirit's over, you know,
- 22:04making people speak in tongues like we've each got our own
- 22:07separate lanes. No, there's a a wonderful truth
- 22:11called inseparable operations that whatever the Father, Son
- 22:15and spirit do, they are working together towards that end.
- 22:19They are working inseparably for the same goal, the same mission,
- 22:23the same purpose. I've included in the show notes
- 22:27a link, an Amazon link to a book, Beholding the Triune God
- 22:32by Matthew Emerson, if I'm remembering the author
- 22:35correctly. And that is a great little book.
- 22:39Actually, I take it back, it's not little.
- 22:40It's great book on the Trinity. Strongly encourage you to read
- 22:45it. So Jesus was conceived by the
- 22:49Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit created within
- 22:53the womb of Mary, a boy Jesus had.
- 22:59Only because I've seen some whacked out stuff online, I'm
- 23:02going to mention this. Jesus was given AY chromosome
- 23:06from the Holy Spirit. That the Holy Spirit created AY
- 23:11chromosome in this baby in the womb of Mary Jesus, though he
- 23:19did not have a human father. You don't need to have a human
- 23:23father if you have God himself that is creating new life.
- 23:27Just like Adam had AY chromosome even though he did not have a
- 23:32human father. That God himself who created
- 23:35Adam from the dust could certainly create life within the
- 23:39womb. And now is when I want to turn
- 23:41over to the I believe it's the Nicene Creed.
- 23:47No, actually, I'm going to turn over to the Athanasian Creed.
- 23:50So let me throw in and we are almost at the end of the
- 23:54episode. I promise, guys.
- 23:58The creeds in the two hundreds to four hundreds AD, there were
- 24:03lots of false teachers who were saying, OK, Jesus was God, but
- 24:08he wasn't really man. Like he didn't really have a
- 24:11body. Like it was just a mirage or
- 24:13whatever. And so some of the creeds deal
- 24:16specifically with that to say, no, Jesus was truly human.
- 24:21He wasn't just an apparition. He was actually flesh and blood
- 24:25like we are. There were some false teachers
- 24:29that said OK, well, Jesus became God.
- 24:33He wasn't always God. That's where the language of the
- 24:36creeds comes in, that Jesus is eternally begotten of the
- 24:41Father, that he is eternal. He is uncreated.
- 24:45He is, as they say it, begotten, not made.
- 24:50That he is constantly given his status and purpose and honor by
- 24:57the Father. He, He has the same nature as
- 25:02God the Father, but he is one more time.
- 25:08I'm, I apologize, I'm having to rewind and think about which
- 25:12heresy I was combating. Oh, but that God.
- 25:15But that God the Son is eternal just as God the Father is
- 25:19eternal. There was no start date for God
- 25:22the Son. And so Jesus is truly God and
- 25:26truly man. So I want to now reference in
- 25:32the oh sorry, so two to four hundreds creeds, false teachers
- 25:36saying false things about Jesus that contradicts scripture.
- 25:40But they would use some scriptural verses and they would
- 25:42twist some things. And So what the many pastors of
- 25:48various churches and areas all around the Roman Empire at that
- 25:53time. And I think there may have been
- 25:56some pastors from outlying areas as well, North Africa, Asia
- 26:01Minor, some of those areas that they gathered together and they
- 26:05said, OK, well, what is the Bible say?
- 26:07Like what is the, as we read in Jude, what is the faith that has
- 26:12been delivered once and for all to the Saints?
- 26:15What what have we believed as the people of God?
- 26:19And uniformly they arrived at the same conclusions to say, OK,
- 26:23if you want to say that Jesus was not truly man, you're
- 26:26totally at odds with what we have believed for hundreds of
- 26:30years by that point. And if you say that Jesus either
- 26:35is not truly God or became God at some point, that he had a
- 26:42start date, if you say, as Arias falsely professed, there was a
- 26:47time when the sun was not, that is totally against what we read
- 26:53in Scripture. And so they put together these
- 26:57statements of faith like here's what we believe as the the
- 27:02churches of God. And so that's the reason for the
- 27:04creeds. I don't know if I've mentioned
- 27:06much about creeds on Tabernacle talk before.
- 27:09Some of you that grew up in like Presbyterian, Lutheran,
- 27:12Catholic, Eastern Orthodox traditions, You guys regularly
- 27:17quote the creeds even within your services.
- 27:19Read them have to learn them for catechisms and different things
- 27:23like that. Strongly recommend that but also
- 27:27like learn the truth behind the creeds so that it helps give you
- 27:33language for what you for what we believe about our God from
- 27:39Scripture. So here's what we're told about
- 27:42Jesus. We confess that our Lord Jesus
- 27:45Christ, God's Son, is both God and man equally.
- 27:50Jesus isn't, you know, an Arnold Palmer of God and man.
- 27:53He is God and man equally. He is God from the essence of
- 27:58the Father, begotten before time, and he is man from the
- 28:03essence of his mother, born in time.
- 28:06What a thought that the Eternal Son of God in the moment of
- 28:12Mary's conception within the womb of Mary, by the power of
- 28:16the Holy Spirit, the Eternal became limited for the first
- 28:21time in his life that he could not speak with his mouth.
- 28:26He didn't even have a mouth. Then at conception, he did not
- 28:30yet have hands. What an incredible thought here
- 28:35in section 32. Completely God, completely man,
- 28:40with a rational soul and human flesh.
- 28:43He's not half God, half man. He's completely God and
- 28:46completely man equal to the Father as regards divinity.
- 28:50God the Father and God the Son completely equal in their
- 28:53divinity. Jesus is not a lesser God says
- 28:55less than the Father as regards humanity actually preached
- 28:58through this first not too long ago in the Gospel of John where
- 29:01Jesus says the Father is greater than I and we'd be like, well,
- 29:05wait a second, does that mean God the Son is less than God the
- 29:07Father? No, God the Son and God the
- 29:08Father are equal. Jesus and his humanity was less
- 29:13than God the Father, to be clear about what I mean by that.
- 29:20He was subservient. He was obedient.
- 29:23There were things in Jesus's like human state that he was not
- 29:28as great as God the Father. He was completely holy.
- 29:32He was completely perfect. God the Father has never
- 29:35hungered. Jesus on earth absolutely
- 29:37hungered. God the Father never had to take
- 29:40a nap. Jesus had to sleep in the boat.
- 29:43God the Father, never, I think I'm correct in saying this,
- 29:47never wept. I believe that's correct from a
- 29:51number of theological things I'm not going to go into because
- 29:53we're way past time already. Jesus in his humanity, he wept.
- 29:57And so Jesus, in regards to his relationship with the Father in
- 30:02his humanity, He's less than in me, is not as great as mere
- 30:07humanity, although he is God and man, yet Christ is not 2.
- 30:14But one. You don't have like the two, you
- 30:17don't have two sides of Jesus's brain arguing.
- 30:20And the one is like the, you know, holy Son of God from all
- 30:24of the ages past saying something and then human Jesus
- 30:27saying something on the other side.
- 30:30No, Jesus is 1. He's one person.
- 30:32He's not conflicted in who he is.
- 30:37It says He is one, however, not by his divinity being turned
- 30:42into flesh, but by God's taking humanity to himself.
- 30:49That the eternal Son of God was within the womb of Mary and took
- 30:55on. You know that first.
- 30:57I'm sure I'll get phrasing here incorrect, but that first zygote
- 31:01and then the growing fetus there within the womb of Mary, that
- 31:05that was God himself taking on our humanity, says he is 1.
- 31:12Certainly not by the blending of His essence, but by the unity of
- 31:17His person. For just as one man is both
- 31:19rational soul and flesh, so to the one Christ is both God and
- 31:25man. He suffered for our salvation.
- 31:27He descended to Hades. He arose from the dead on the
- 31:31third day. He ascended to heaven.
- 31:33He's seated at the Father's right hand.
- 31:35From there He will come to judge the living and the dead.
- 31:41So I don't know if I answered the question all that well.
- 31:45I love this thought though, that Jesus stepped out of eternity
- 31:51into time and space, placed there, conceived by the Holy
- 31:56Spirit, not by shedding his divinity, but by taking on
- 32:01humanity. And when he did that, he became
- 32:05one that could identify with all of our hardships.
- 32:09He could take our place as our substitute.
- 32:11He could be the perfect man. That seed of the woman stomping
- 32:16the head of the serpent, that prophet that we need to listen
- 32:19to, that seed of Abraham and the seed of David who would rule,
- 32:23who would be a blessing to all of the nations.
- 32:26And He is the one that we must worship and adore, and with that
- 32:33joyous 3 in one, that though He stepped down from heaven, what
- 32:38we're told even in John 118. And I love the way that the
- 32:44Christian standard Bible translates this particular
- 32:46verse. John 118 says this.
- 32:51No one has ever seen God, the one and only Son, who is himself
- 32:56God and is at the Father's side. He has revealed him that Jesus
- 33:04for a moment was away and he was away for us.
- 33:09He was here, but His Father did not leave him alone.
- 33:12That's what I just preached on this past Sunday in John 16,
- 33:16that Jesus betrayed and abandoned by all of his earthly
- 33:20followers, yet He was not alone because the Father was with him.
- 33:26And so I, I just rejoice in this wonderful truth.
- 33:30I hope it's an encouragement to you.
- 33:31If you have any questions, please let me know, especially
- 33:34on an episode that's like this dance and this chock full of
- 33:38information. I would love to explain
- 33:42anything. Maybe you can give me a call or
- 33:44something, or we can meet up for a meal or for coffee if that's a
- 33:49more helpful venue than trying to do things via Tabernacle
- 33:53Talk. As far as our next book of
- 33:56scripture that we're going to be walking through, I believe
- 33:59Monday we're going to be walking through Isaiah together.
- 34:02Isaiah is a wonderful treasure trove.
- 34:05It's one of the most quoted books in the New Testament, and
- 34:09so it has much to say about the root of David, the Messiah, the
- 34:16suffering servant, the coming king who would rule.
- 34:19And so we're going to look together at how Isaiah points us
- 34:22to Jesus and what we can learn even living within a nation that
- 34:28professes to know God somewhat looking at ancient Israel and
- 34:33how they needed the prophets for how they interacted with the
- 34:37Lord as well. Thanks for tuning in.
- 34:39Hope you have a wonderful day.
