- 0:09Speaker 1: What's going on? Everyone, Welcome into another episode of the
- 0:12Speaker 1: Check o'daly Andrew to check o'eagles beat reporter for insidethebirds
- 0:15Speaker 1: dot Com and our positional preview series is gonna go
- 0:19Speaker 1: ahead and continue on with the tight end position. I've
- 0:23Speaker 1: went through quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers, offensive line, and
- 0:27Speaker 1: now the tight end position to conclude the offense. We'll
- 0:31Speaker 1: get into the schedule release at another time. I'm recording
- 0:34Speaker 1: this prior to the official unveiling. Though there have been
- 0:38Speaker 1: a plethora of leaks and all but all the games
- 0:42Speaker 1: have been secured, there may be some tinkering between a
- 0:46Speaker 1: week or two, so I want to wait before you know,
- 0:50Speaker 1: I sort of give my analysis of it and my
- 0:54Speaker 1: initial thoughts before we really delve into it a little bit.
- 0:58Speaker 1: But today we're gonna go with tight end position. And
- 1:01Speaker 1: they went from having zero tight ends in the room
- 1:06Speaker 1: going into the offseason to then having eight players at
- 1:10Speaker 1: the position. The room is led by none other than
- 1:13Speaker 1: Dallas Goddard. He signed back for one more year, and
- 1:17Speaker 1: given the way that the Green Bay Packers utilize the
- 1:20Speaker 1: tight ends, I have to think that Dallas Goddard will
- 1:24Speaker 1: have a very prominent role once again, although I'm expecting
- 1:28Speaker 1: him to have some more creativity in terms of the
- 1:31Speaker 1: route's run, so the route concepts being more advanced to
- 1:35Speaker 1: take advantage of Dallas Goddard's skill set. I do envision
- 1:39Speaker 1: him still being involved in the red zone. I don't
- 1:41Speaker 1: think that that was sort of a blip on the
- 1:43Speaker 1: radar or something that was out of the ordinary that
- 1:47Speaker 1: won't reveal itself again, I do believe that they're going
- 1:49Speaker 1: to lean into that a little bit more. And for Dallas,
- 1:52Speaker 1: it's never been about ability, it's been about availability. So
- 1:56Speaker 1: last season, aside from the Chiefs game, he was available.
- 2:00Speaker 1: He isn't quite the blocker that he once was. I
- 2:03Speaker 1: thought that there were moments where he struggled in that
- 2:05Speaker 1: area last season, but I'm expecting a lot more volume
- 2:10Speaker 1: coming his way in twenty twenty six. Moving on, Eli Stowers,
- 2:15Speaker 1: drafted by the Eagles in the second round out of Vanderbilt.
- 2:19Speaker 1: I like the player quite a bit. I've talked extensively
- 2:21Speaker 1: about him. Athletic, uber athletic player who's impressive skill sets,
- 2:29Speaker 1: impressive testing numbers is reflected in his on field performance,
- 2:34Speaker 1: and he can be sort of a movable piece that
- 2:36Speaker 1: the Eagles can get creative with I think that's an
- 2:39Speaker 1: appealing aspect of bringing in someone like that. And he
- 2:43Speaker 1: could even line up at X if needed, if asked.
- 2:46Speaker 1: I think he could do that. He can use him
- 2:48Speaker 1: as a power slot. He's good after the catch, good
- 2:51Speaker 1: ball skills, three level threat former quarterback. I like him.
- 2:57Speaker 1: I like what he can provide. Now, he doesn't offer
- 2:59Speaker 1: a ton in the way of blocking, but that should
- 3:03Speaker 1: be expected. That's known, and that's not to say that
- 3:06Speaker 1: he can't do it. If you go ahead and go
- 3:08Speaker 1: back and read the story that I wrote on him
- 3:10Speaker 1: talking his former position coach of Vanderbilt, he spoke at
- 3:14Speaker 1: length about he wasn't really asked to do it. They
- 3:17Speaker 1: didn't need their star receiver, their leading receiver to serve
- 3:22Speaker 1: as an inline blocker. They had other players who can
- 3:24Speaker 1: do it. But then he also highlighted examples that he
- 3:27Speaker 1: can do it. I don't know how involved he'll be
- 3:29Speaker 1: in the offense in twenty twenty six in terms of
- 3:32Speaker 1: volume he's going to be involved. He's a second round pick,
- 3:35Speaker 1: But I think the Eagles will find ways to get
- 3:39Speaker 1: him in the mix without sort of exploiting him as
- 3:42Speaker 1: a blocker in the way that Grant Kyle Katara was
- 3:44Speaker 1: last season. You have Grant kal Kata. You have Grant
- 3:48Speaker 1: kal Katara back in the fold. He signed for a
- 3:52Speaker 1: one year deal. Now he has sort of an uphill
- 3:55Speaker 1: climb to make the roster. He is sort of redundant
- 3:58Speaker 1: when you look at the receiver centric aspect of his game,
- 4:02Speaker 1: that's what he's predicated on. You have Eli Stowers who
- 4:05Speaker 1: can do that. So do you need a Grant cal
- 4:07Speaker 1: Kata who's a little bit older and maybe doesn't give
- 4:09Speaker 1: you a lot of special teams upside? So if you're
- 4:13Speaker 1: gonna go heavy and you're gonna carry four tight ends,
- 4:15Speaker 1: do you need a Grant cal Katara. Yeah. I mean,
- 4:19Speaker 1: I don't know the Eagles like him, but he's someone
- 4:22Speaker 1: that you can probably get on the practice squad if
- 4:25Speaker 1: you are enthused with what he shows in training camp.
- 4:28Speaker 1: And I think that Grant cal Kata will uh, he's
- 4:34Speaker 1: gonna put together a good training camp. He always is
- 4:36Speaker 1: a receiving target, a popular one at that of Jalen Hurts,
- 4:40Speaker 1: but you kind of have an idea of who the
- 4:43Speaker 1: player is. Good story development six round pick in twenty
- 4:46Speaker 1: twenty two has established staying power in this league and
- 4:49Speaker 1: in Philadelphia, though, I think some of the other options
- 4:52Speaker 1: that we're gonna get to have a little bit more
- 4:55Speaker 1: upside and more of a reason to keep them on
- 4:59Speaker 1: the roster and protect them from waivers and grand Calcata
- 5:02Speaker 1: is twenty twenty. He's a vested veteran now, so he
- 5:06Speaker 1: wouldn't be subjected to waivers. Served four years in the NFL,
- 5:10Speaker 1: so something to keep in mind in stash away. Cameron
- 5:14Speaker 1: latou Now, he was a fullback last season. He converted
- 5:18Speaker 1: to fullback after being serving as a tight end in
- 5:21Speaker 1: training camp. I would wonder if the Eagles have plans
- 5:26Speaker 1: to keep him to move him back to tight end.
- 5:28Speaker 1: He's listed as a tight end on the website on
- 5:30Speaker 1: the roster, so it's fair to expect that maybe he'll
- 5:34Speaker 1: get more of a look at tight end this time around.
- 5:36Speaker 1: That's his position to trade former or not a former.
- 5:39Speaker 1: He was a third round pick in twenty twenty three
- 5:41Speaker 1: of the San Francisco forty nine ers. Developed nicely as
- 5:46Speaker 1: a blocker. I highlighted at different points that that really
- 5:51Speaker 1: showcased itself in training camp where he was able to
- 5:55Speaker 1: stonewall a couple of linebackers on some plays where they
- 5:59Speaker 1: were coming downhill. Then in the regular season he played
- 6:03Speaker 1: in fifteen games, served as a force on special teams.
- 6:06Speaker 1: I like what he brings to the table, has more
- 6:08Speaker 1: developmental qualities than some of the other players will get
- 6:12Speaker 1: into if you're looking at it from a depth perspective,
- 6:15Speaker 1: and the Eagles are going to look for balance in
- 6:16Speaker 1: that room. But I think Grank, I think Cameron Lotsuo
- 6:20Speaker 1: provides that I have him on my way to fifty
- 6:24Speaker 1: three man roster right now. They lost some key pieces
- 6:27Speaker 1: on special teams in Kylon Grantson and Sydney Brown and
- 6:30Speaker 1: Cameron lots who gives you the blocking element that the
- 6:33Speaker 1: next player on this list also provides, But he also
- 6:36Speaker 1: gives you more of a receiving prowess, at least in theories.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Twenty six years old, and he would be subjected to
- 6:44Speaker 1: the waiver wire, so there would probably be a team
- 6:46Speaker 1: or two that would be poking around with interest to
- 6:50Speaker 1: try and get him, assuming he puts together a good
- 6:53Speaker 1: summer and a good preseason. Johnny Monks, the player I
- 6:57Speaker 1: was talking about the Eagles signing to a one year deal.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Dimensional player in that he's a blocking specialist, doesn't really
- 7:03Speaker 1: factor in all that much as a receiver an older
- 7:07Speaker 1: player as well. He was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Now it's important to note that the Eagles are making
- 7:12Speaker 1: and have made a concerted effort to balance out the room,
- 7:15Speaker 1: meaning ad players who offer blocking upside, and of course
- 7:20Speaker 1: have your receiving centric players in the room. Last year
- 7:23Speaker 1: they were way too receiving dominant and that needed to change.
- 7:27Speaker 1: That was evident. Johnny Munt, however, while he does provide
- 7:32Speaker 1: a ton of value as a blocker, he's a veteran,
- 7:35Speaker 1: so he's not subjected to waivers and I can't imagine
- 7:38Speaker 1: there would be a team clamoring to bring him in.
- 7:41Speaker 1: So if the Eagles were to release him, they could
- 7:44Speaker 1: get him in all likelihood on their practice squad if
- 7:46Speaker 1: they so chose. And so that's where we're at with
- 7:50Speaker 1: Johnny Munt. Then you move a little bit further down.
- 7:52Speaker 1: You have an intriguing undrafted free agent and daikwon right
- 7:56Speaker 1: at an ole miss explosive type of receiver. He can
- 7:59Speaker 1: get vertical. I had a draftaball great on him, a
- 8:01Speaker 1: six round great to be exact, and he doesn't offer
- 8:06Speaker 1: a ton as a blocker. He can do it. He
- 8:09Speaker 1: has the frame to suggest that he can develop into
- 8:12Speaker 1: an average blocker at least. Plus he's younger and he's
- 8:16Speaker 1: fresh off the draft. So if you were to part
- 8:18Speaker 1: with him, if he showcases so much as some semblance
- 8:22Speaker 1: of receiving upside or intrigue, I would have to imagine
- 8:28Speaker 1: that he's a player that teams would be interested in
- 8:31Speaker 1: on the waiver wire. We haven't seen him undergo a
- 8:34Speaker 1: practice yet in training camp, so it's hard to kind
- 8:37Speaker 1: of put him in that category. But I can see
- 8:41Speaker 1: a scenario where he makes the roster as maybe the
- 8:45Speaker 1: fourth tight end if they are worried about losing him
- 8:48Speaker 1: via waivers. But that's someone to keep an eye on. EJ.
- 8:52Speaker 1: Jenkins is back. The Eagles re signed. They sent him
- 8:58Speaker 1: to a reserve future steal. We'll be back in the mix. Six',
- 9:01Speaker 1: six two hundred and fifty five ish. POUNDS i say
- 9:05Speaker 1: that because he really was too sixty and mentioned to
- 9:08Speaker 1: me during locker clean out that he was going to
- 9:11Speaker 1: really make a concerted effort at dropping five, pounds you,
- 9:16Speaker 1: know to for career, longevity to lessen some of the
- 9:20Speaker 1: burden on his knees and back and all. That but
- 9:23Speaker 1: this is a really good story of development in that
- 9:26Speaker 1: he was an undrafted free. Agent he was a collegiate wide,
- 9:28Speaker 1: Receiver he played at three different, places and then he
- 9:31Speaker 1: gets to The, jets didn't quite make, it didn't quite stick,
- 9:34Speaker 1: around goes To philadelphia and becomes a well rounded tight.
- 9:39Speaker 1: End not if it weren't for a practice in which
- 9:42Speaker 1: he suffered a series of drops late in the year
- 9:44Speaker 1: or late in the training. Camp, YEAH i, mean he
- 9:48Speaker 1: could have made the. ROSTER i had him on my
- 9:49Speaker 1: fifty three because the absence Of Johnny wilson to, me
- 9:52Speaker 1: suggested that it could have created a path FOR. Ej
- 9:56Speaker 1: jenkins to make the. Team he faces an uphill battle
- 9:58Speaker 1: right now as it, is so it's hard to see
- 10:01Speaker 1: a path for him to make the roster this time.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Around but it's a big, body physical. Player i've talked
- 10:07Speaker 1: about him on this podcast for a, While i've written
- 10:11Speaker 1: about him. BEFORE a great, story great guy and SOMEONE
- 10:14Speaker 1: i will be certainly keeping an eye on in training.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Camp all, right, everybody just a quick break to remind
- 10:20Speaker 2: you if you haven't Noticed sun's coming, out it's getting,
- 10:24Speaker 2: warmer especially where we are in The. Northeast that reminds
- 10:27Speaker 2: you that summer's right around the, corner and with late
- 10:30Speaker 2: spring and summer come a ton of ACTIVITIES i know for,
- 10:33Speaker 2: me And i'm sure just like everybody. Else you, know
- 10:36Speaker 2: my kids play, Softball i'm at tournaments every, weekend and
- 10:40Speaker 2: then there's gonna be. Barbecues AND i actually turn, fifty
- 10:43Speaker 2: the big five oh this, year along with many of my.

- 13:54Speaker 1: Up, Finally Stone smart six four twenty. Six he's twenty
- 14:00Speaker 1: seven years, old spend some time with The. Jets he's
- 14:03Speaker 1: been around the league for a while and has played
- 14:07Speaker 1: in a number of, games so you like the experience
- 14:09Speaker 1: that he's coming in. With gives you a little bit
- 14:12Speaker 1: of blocking. Ability he's also a player who can help
- 14:15Speaker 1: you on special. Teams Sort of lost in the mix
- 14:18Speaker 1: a little bit because he signed the one year deal
- 14:21Speaker 1: the same day That Damian pierce, signed and now there's
- 14:24Speaker 1: a number of other tight ends, here so you kind
- 14:26Speaker 1: of lose sight of A Stone. Smart BUT i would
- 14:28Speaker 1: not be quick to write him. Off you still have
- 14:31Speaker 1: to let practices bear. Out you have to let him play.
- 14:35Speaker 1: Out AND i Like Stone, smart AND i like the
- 14:38Speaker 1: IDEA i should say of A Stone smart and what
- 14:41Speaker 1: he could potentially add as a depth option slash special teams.
- 14:44Speaker 1: CONTRIBUTOR i mentioned The eagles lost a couple of key
- 14:47Speaker 1: special teams, contributors so that has to be taken into.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Account you don't want to Deprive Michael, klay the coordinator
- 14:53Speaker 1: of all of his special teams, guys you have to
- 14:55Speaker 1: make sure that you're providing him with adequate playmakers in
- 14:59Speaker 1: the Third faise And Stone smart will have an, opportunity
- 15:03Speaker 1: though as crowded as it, IS i can't imagine he's
- 15:05Speaker 1: going to have an abundance of opportunities in training camp
- 15:08Speaker 1: to really cement his status or at least compel evaluators
- 15:12Speaker 1: to give it a second. Thought WHERE i think he
- 15:15Speaker 1: will be able to cement or separate himself or have
- 15:18Speaker 1: the chance to as in the, preseason where he can
- 15:21Speaker 1: use his frame and experience to help his chances of
- 15:24Speaker 1: sticking around in some, capacity whether it be the active
- 15:27Speaker 1: roster or The eagles practice. SQUAD i think they keep
- 15:32Speaker 1: four tight ENDS i put on my way to early
- 15:35Speaker 1: fifty three man roster who those would Be OTA's and
- 15:40Speaker 1: mandatory mini camp and training camp is on the, horizon
- 15:43Speaker 1: so we'll see how things go in that. Regard but for,
- 15:46Speaker 1: now that's going to do it for this episode of
- 15:48Speaker 1: The Czecho. Deli I'm Andrew. Decheco we'll catch you all
- 15:51Speaker 1: on the next. One
