- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30So today we're talking about our ability to be patient.
- 0:34And here's the crazy thing about this.
- 0:37Sometimes in order to be able to do something, you have to be
- 0:41really patient with something else, not just yourself, but
- 0:44with something else. And so I have, I'm actually not
- 0:49right in the chicken coop yet because it's very, very early
- 0:51and dark. What I'm what I'm talking about
- 0:53is being patient with something else.
- 0:56And that's a rabbit. Now this is a metaphor,
- 0:58obviously. So we have some free range
- 1:01rabbits that we have now and we're letting them go all over
- 1:06the farm. And here's the crazy part.
- 1:10Rabbits don't trust you much. You have to earn their trust
- 1:13because they're prey items just like the chickens.
- 1:15And it takes time and being able to have build up trust with the
- 1:19rabbits is a really big deal. So I have worked diligently
- 1:25morning after morning after morning, to try to get this
- 1:28little rabbit, one of them, to be very friends with me and
- 1:31coming over and staying with it, having treats for it and trying
- 1:34to get it to come over. And finally now when I call
- 1:38Honey Bunny, she comes and she knows that I'm going to have a
- 1:41treat for her. But even when she comes, she's
- 1:44still cautious. She's still watching me, but
- 1:46she's building trust. Building trust.
- 1:49I can just barely touch her. Like I can put my hand out flat
- 1:53with my palm up and then she will come over and eat off of my
- 1:57palm. And maybe if I'm lucky, a finger
- 1:59brushes her, but it's still a little bit there.
- 2:02Now, why is this so important? Well, it's important because
- 2:05here's the thing, We as human beings want to get things
- 2:09quickly. Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom,
- 2:10boom. We want to just have it happen.
- 2:12And this is taking me weeks to get to this point.
- 2:15And as I thought about it this morning, I was thinking about,
- 2:19you know, setting going into that end of the year, setting
- 2:22goals, doing all this, like, wow, OK, This is all requiring
- 2:27such a high level of patience with myself and with everything
- 2:31else. It's really tricky for most
- 2:33people. It really is tricky to be
- 2:35patient, be willing to allow it to build on itself, not just get
- 2:41discouraged along the way and give up and say, well, I'm going
- 2:44to throw in the towel. And with the rabbit, I've had to
- 2:47be very patient. It's a quick little visual to
- 2:51remind me what is it trying to teach me?
- 2:54And I love that about being on the farm and being able to bring
- 2:57that to you. Because this little thing with
- 2:59the rabbit is helping me bridge the gap with my own stuff and
- 3:03being patient. I don't have a lot of patience.
- 3:05I'm not by my nature patient with myself.
- 3:09I'm I'm patient with my clients. I'm patient with processes
- 3:12outside of me. However, inside of me I'm like,
- 3:14no, no, no, I can do this. I can.
- 3:16I want to get things done quickly and on point and do them
- 3:20well. Don't have a high level of
- 3:22patience. This rabbit has really brought
- 3:25to the forefront my need to be patient with things and let them
- 3:29build. So every day I'm like, is it a
- 3:32little bit better than it was the day before?
- 3:34Is it the same? So I asked those questions so I
- 3:37can see if I'm making progress with her.
- 3:39Am I making progress? And you know, things will throw
- 3:42you back. Like I have a very big dog.
- 3:44You all know, you've heard about him.
- 3:46Beaufort, he comes out sometimes and he scares her.
- 3:48And it's not when I'm trying to give her a treat.
- 3:50It's just other times during the day.
- 3:52And as soon as she gets scared, now there's a level of trust
- 3:54that's been broken. That's how it works in the world
- 3:57as well. So the point of this, my
- 4:00friends, is to say, where else is this showing up that I can
- 4:04bridge that over for myself? How if I look at this and I say,
- 4:09where is this showing up in my life and where am I not being
- 4:12patient, but where am I being patient?
- 4:14And can I pull those over? This rabbit is teaching me to be
- 4:17patient with other things and ask different questions with
- 4:20other things so that I can be better across the board.
- 4:24So think about that. Like, do you have something in
- 4:27your world that's like your rabbit that you're testing it
- 4:29with? That you're saying, OK, what can
- 4:31I build my trust with? Maybe it's a project, a personal
- 4:34art project. Maybe you're learning to knit or
- 4:37paint or Weld or do whatever. Maybe you're thinking in terms
- 4:41of writing or patient when you start the process and then you
- 4:44become massively impatient and you just want to have it done
- 4:47and you're sick of doing it and you're just rushing through it.
- 4:51Those kind of things need you to come back to patients because
- 4:56it's the key to having yourself stay emotionally regulated in
- 5:00the sense that you're aware of what your emotions are.
- 5:02And you're asking, are they serving me?
- 5:04And if they're not serving you, then you move away from it.
- 5:07So think about that in this rabbit metaphor that I've given
- 5:11you today and see how it can help you.
- 5:13And I will see you all tomorrow and I hope you have a blessed
- 5:15day. Bye.
