- 0:10Speaker 1: That is great to have Max Muncy back on Foul territory. Max,
- 0:13Speaker 1: It's good to see you, dude, And we were just
- 0:15Speaker 1: talking about sho he Otani. So if you don't mind,
- 0:18Speaker 1: we'll start with your legendary teammate and ask you what
- 0:21Speaker 1: you're seeing from him on the mount. I mean, he's
- 0:24Speaker 1: always been great, right, but this is the best we've
- 0:26Speaker 1: ever seen him pitch. He I know, some starts he
- 0:29Speaker 1: said he doesn't have his best stuff and then he's
- 0:31Speaker 1: still going six shutout innings, but it looked like he
- 0:33Speaker 1: actually had his good stuff in his latest outing.
- 0:35Speaker 2: What are you seeing from him, dude?
- 0:38Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 0:38Speaker 4: I mean.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Everything he throws is just elite.
- 0:42Speaker 5: You know, He's got twelve pitches that he can throw
- 0:44Speaker 5: pretty much, and it's just as a hitter. When I
- 0:48Speaker 5: think about him, I don't know how you would game
- 0:51Speaker 5: plan because you just don't know what he's going to
- 0:53Speaker 5: attack you with. He can attack you with something different
- 0:55Speaker 5: every single time, and every pitch that he you know,
- 0:57Speaker 5: that he's coming at you with, is an elite pitch.
- 1:00Speaker 5: It's not like he's got one bad pitch, even though
- 1:02Speaker 5: he might think he's got a couple of bad pitches.
- 1:04Speaker 5: You know, they're all really good, and he's been he's
- 1:06Speaker 5: been locating him really well. And yeah, it's just it's
- 1:10Speaker 5: it's it's insane what he's been able to do.
- 1:12Speaker 2: And you know, it's it's been really fun to play
- 1:14Speaker 2: behind him when he's on the mound. You say twelve pitches, Yeah,
- 1:19Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know how many of the actually is.
- 1:20Speaker 5: I like to I like to exaggerate a little bit,
- 1:22Speaker 5: but I mean, you know it's it's it's four seams,
- 1:24Speaker 5: sincer cutter, it's like three types of sliders pretty much.
- 1:29Speaker 5: It's curveball, splitter, you know. So I mean, what is that.
- 1:33Speaker 5: That's that's eight nine pitches. So I only exaggerated a
- 1:36Speaker 5: little bit, but you know he can he can throw
- 1:38Speaker 5: all of those pitches.
- 1:40Speaker 6: By the way, that reminds me of you, Darfish, because
- 1:42Speaker 6: he Darvis used to go four seam sinker cutter, slider,
- 1:48Speaker 6: hard curveball, soft curveball, change up split. I mean he
- 1:52Speaker 6: was making knuckleball. I think he would throw. I mean
- 1:54Speaker 6: it was crazy. So yeah, that that is that sounds
- 1:56Speaker 6: like a you Darvish back when you Darvish was was
- 1:58Speaker 6: the age of show. Hey. I mean, it's just fun
- 2:00Speaker 6: to when you're playing third base, or you just like
- 2:02Speaker 6: go out there boarder, you did you you become an outfielder
- 2:05Speaker 6: and you're out there working on your swing because nobody
- 2:07Speaker 6: puts the ball in play.
- 2:09Speaker 2: No, no, I mean you know when when the I
- 2:13Speaker 2: feel I feel pretty engaged when he's pitching.
- 2:15Speaker 5: You know, with the right he's when he when he
- 2:17Speaker 5: throws the sweeper or the curve ball, you know, you
- 2:20Speaker 5: feel pretty pretty confident if they happen to put it
- 2:23Speaker 5: in play, it's going to be on the ground towards you.
- 2:24Speaker 5: And then with the left, when the lefties are up,
- 2:26Speaker 5: you're you're kind of like, well, he's gonna blow fastball
- 2:28Speaker 5: by them, and the only chance they're going to put
- 2:30Speaker 5: it in play, it's it's going to be slapped to
- 2:32Speaker 5: the left side. So you know, you feel pretty engaged
- 2:35Speaker 5: when he's on the mound, and uh, you know it's
- 2:40Speaker 5: there's not too many balls getting hit hard at you,
- 2:42Speaker 5: so uh, you know, it's a pretty comfortable experience at
- 2:44Speaker 5: third base. At least a lot of the balls are
- 2:46Speaker 5: just slow rollers hit towards you, so you know it's
- 2:50Speaker 5: it's it's fun.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Max. How important do you think Cy Young is for him?
- 2:57Speaker 1: You know, we were mentioning how he's got so much
- 2:59Speaker 1: already on him his bucket list to be, you know,
- 3:01Speaker 1: the greatest player ever and win the titles and the mbps.
- 3:05Speaker 1: He hasn't won a cy Young, so it's like, oh,
- 3:07Speaker 1: I'm going to be so good to you know. It's
- 3:08Speaker 1: like he had the fifty to fifty season and Okay,
- 3:11Speaker 1: I did that. I showed everyone how I can do that.
- 3:13Speaker 1: This is my time to shine here. The other caveat
- 3:16Speaker 1: is we happen to be in a year where there's
- 3:19Speaker 1: really really good top end starters in a cy Young race,
- 3:22Speaker 1: and even if one or two fall off, there's like
- 3:23Speaker 1: five or six that he's going up against.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I think a say Young means a
- 3:28Speaker 2: lot to him.
- 3:29Speaker 5: I think that's you know, he mentioned that was that
- 3:31Speaker 5: was his goal at the start of the season, and
- 3:34Speaker 5: you know that might be the only award he hasn't
- 3:37Speaker 5: gotten yet, so you know, I think it probably means
- 3:42Speaker 5: a lot. You know, when when when he says he's
- 3:43Speaker 5: going to do something, he generally goes out and does it,
- 3:45Speaker 5: and uh, you know, it's that's pretty much what he's
- 3:48Speaker 5: been doing this year.
- 3:50Speaker 6: What's he like when he does a pitch. I think
- 3:53Speaker 6: today he gets the day off. So is he in
- 3:54Speaker 6: there just messing with you guys? Does he get bored
- 3:57Speaker 6: when he's not playing? Does he does he flick sunflowers?
- 4:00Speaker 6: He's like to you know, the starting pitchers, they used
- 4:02Speaker 6: to do pumpkin seeds to see who could flick them
- 4:04Speaker 6: the farthest, how many they could he, you know, doing
- 4:06Speaker 6: all these stupid things because they're bored. Is is that
- 4:08Speaker 6: what Showay does on Daisy Don't Play?
- 4:11Speaker 5: You know, during the during the game, he might joke
- 4:13Speaker 5: around a little bit, he might have a little fun,
- 4:15Speaker 5: but uh, you know, before the game, I'm sure he's
- 4:17Speaker 5: gonna somehow feel like his start last night wasn't that good,
- 4:20Speaker 5: and so he's going to try to, you know, figure
- 4:22Speaker 5: out how he could make it better. Uh that you know,
- 4:25Speaker 5: that's that's how how much attention he pays the detail
- 4:28Speaker 5: with with this kind of stuff.
- 4:30Speaker 2: And uh, you.
- 4:32Speaker 5: Know, I'm sure he's got something he wants to work on,
- 4:34Speaker 5: and uh he's gonna be in there all day working
- 4:36Speaker 5: on it, and then when the game starts, he's gonna
- 4:38Speaker 5: you know, he's gonna be in there having a lot
- 4:39Speaker 5: of fun with the boys.
- 4:42Speaker 1: I like it all right, let's get to the rest
- 4:45Speaker 1: of the team here. How do you think things are
- 4:47Speaker 1: looking one way one third of the way into the season.
- 4:50Speaker 1: And I haven't been able to really ask this question
- 4:53Speaker 1: to a player on a team since I've been in
- 4:56Speaker 1: the industry. Is you guys figured out how to win
- 4:58Speaker 1: back to back World Series, so you were able to
- 5:01Speaker 1: figure out how to get through going the distance and
- 5:04Speaker 1: then winning again. So what does it take to kind
- 5:07Speaker 1: of hold off a World Series hangover for teams, you know,
- 5:11Speaker 1: coming off such like a long grind in October. And
- 5:14Speaker 1: we've talked about this with you. I mean, you guys
- 5:15Speaker 1: have had like the overseas trips to start years. You
- 5:18Speaker 1: guys have had the deep runs into October. You know,
- 5:20Speaker 1: I know the team is well stacked and well coached
- 5:23Speaker 1: and developed and all of that, but it still takes
- 5:24Speaker 1: a toll, right.
- 5:27Speaker 5: Yeah, absolutely, you know, I think ultimately our cure to
- 5:32Speaker 5: that is just, uh, you know, the the veteran You know,
- 5:39Speaker 5: how many veterans we have, how much experience we have,
- 5:44Speaker 5: you know, guys understanding how you show up every day
- 5:47Speaker 5: and you go about the business, and uh, you know,
- 5:49Speaker 5: it's just a lot of focus on on the team
- 5:52Speaker 5: you know, are the way we go about it of
- 5:55Speaker 5: doing it just day by day and you know, whether
- 5:57Speaker 5: it's a good day, whether it's a bad day, you
- 6:00Speaker 5: show up the next day and you just you know,
- 6:01Speaker 5: it's we're always still focused on just one day at
- 6:04Speaker 5: a time. That uh, with with with all of our
- 6:07Speaker 5: guys that we just it doesn't matter if we have
- 6:10Speaker 5: a bad game, you show up the next day and you.
- 6:12Speaker 2: You do it all over again, and you know, we
- 6:14Speaker 2: don't dwell on anything.
- 6:15Speaker 5: And for us, that's always helped us eliminate you know,
- 6:17Speaker 5: a lot of the noise outside. And you know, it's
- 6:22Speaker 5: been it's been kind of crazy.
- 6:23Speaker 2: A lot of the guys have.
- 6:24Speaker 5: Been grinding really hard and uh, you know a lot
- 6:27Speaker 5: of the guys have been feeling the last couple of
- 6:29Speaker 5: years for sure, and yet we're still able to show
- 6:31Speaker 5: up every single day and and you know put the
- 6:33Speaker 5: other good games, and you know what, I really just
- 6:37Speaker 5: think it comes down to how much experience and you know,
- 6:41Speaker 5: all the all the veteran leadership that we've got in
- 6:43Speaker 5: the clubhouse.
- 6:43Speaker 2: I really think it comes down to all of that.
- 6:46Speaker 6: Max, you mentioned all the experience you have. I know
- 6:48Speaker 6: why you came on it's been a while. You haven't
- 6:50Speaker 6: hit a home run in like three days. Dude, are
- 6:52Speaker 6: you feeling okay? It's been like three days for you.
- 6:54Speaker 6: So listen, people come on, they hit homers. I mean
- 6:57Speaker 6: happened to will you or bray you the other day.
- 6:59Speaker 6: That's why it's been a long time for you. But
- 7:01Speaker 6: you are mashing this year, dude, Like, what what is up?
- 7:06Speaker 2: Yeah, it's been it's been a good start.
- 7:08Speaker 5: Unfortunately for me, it hasn't been as good a start
- 7:10Speaker 5: as I've wanted.
- 7:11Speaker 2: I've been really bad in certain situations.
- 7:14Speaker 5: And those are situations that I'm generally really good in
- 7:17Speaker 5: and uh, that I've thrived in. So you know, it's
- 7:22Speaker 5: been it's been a good start, but it's also been
- 7:23Speaker 5: a bad start. And uh but you know, for me,
- 7:27Speaker 5: most importantly, it's been a great start on defense for me,
- 7:29Speaker 5: and that's something that I've really been trying to focus
- 7:31Speaker 5: on for for years and uh, you know, so that's
- 7:34Speaker 5: a to me. That's been the more important things that
- 7:36Speaker 5: I've been able to make an impact on the game defensively.
- 7:39Speaker 1: When you're doing self analysis during the season, Max, how
- 7:42Speaker 1: does it go? Do you rely on certain people within
- 7:45Speaker 1: the organization to tell you what they're seeing from you,
- 7:48Speaker 1: and then also what are you looking at specifically, Like
- 7:51Speaker 1: are you looking at a certain report stat video? I
- 7:53Speaker 1: know it's a mix of things, but like, can you
- 7:55Speaker 1: give us, you know, for young ballplayers out there, an
- 7:57Speaker 1: example of some things that help them to self evalue late.
- 8:01Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, it's it's hard to not pay attention
- 8:05Speaker 5: to numbers, but I try not to. For me, I
- 8:07Speaker 5: try to pay attention to Am I getting the job
- 8:10Speaker 5: done when the job requires it?
- 8:11Speaker 2: Am I moving a guy over to third base?
- 8:13Speaker 3: You know?
- 8:13Speaker 5: Am i's a guy on second base? Am I getting
- 8:15Speaker 5: the ball on the ground to the right side?
- 8:17Speaker 2: Or am I driving? If there's a guy on third
- 8:19Speaker 2: base less than two? Am I scoring them? You know?
- 8:21Speaker 5: Those are the things that I always try to pay
- 8:23Speaker 5: attention to. And you know, like I said, this year,
- 8:25Speaker 5: I've been extremely bad in a lot of those situations.
- 8:28Speaker 5: I know, I've hit a bunch of homers and you
- 8:30Speaker 5: know I am hitting the ball well, it's just in
- 8:32Speaker 5: certain situations I want to be a lot better.
- 8:34Speaker 2: And that's what I what I try to focus on.
- 8:36Speaker 5: And you know, when you when you focus on trying
- 8:39Speaker 5: to play the game hard and play it the right way. Generally,
- 8:41Speaker 5: it rewards you, and you know that's That's just how
- 8:45Speaker 5: I've always been.
- 8:45Speaker 2: That's what I've always focused on.
- 8:49Speaker 4: Kratz.
- 8:49Speaker 2: I know you love dad jokes. This is not a joke.

- 9:50Speaker 6: Okay, I want you to say that again because what
- 9:53Speaker 6: you just said was gold to me. You try to
- 9:55Speaker 6: play the game the right way and you try to
- 9:56Speaker 6: get guy Wait did you say you try to get
- 9:58Speaker 6: guys over? I thought that was a no no in
- 10:00Speaker 6: today's game. And you care about driving runners in from
- 10:03Speaker 6: second No, Max, You're just supposed to try to hit
- 10:06Speaker 6: a home run or strike out or walk like this
- 10:08Speaker 6: is gold to me. To hear someone actually say that,
- 10:10Speaker 6: So thank you for saying that. And did the Dodgers
- 10:13Speaker 6: actually talk about things like that? Because I played with
- 10:15Speaker 6: Freddie and I know Freddie cares about that kind of stuff.
- 10:18Speaker 6: I played with Mooky. Mooky cared about that kind of stuff.
- 10:21Speaker 6: So to hear you say that, I mean, wow, my
- 10:24Speaker 6: mind like kind of exploded. I loved it.
- 10:27Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean it's we we we try to focus
- 10:30Speaker 5: on doing everything the right way, and you know that's
- 10:32Speaker 5: that's That's one of those things that if there's certain
- 10:35Speaker 5: of bats where you can tell the guy has no
- 10:38Speaker 5: interest in you know, you know, if it's a left
- 10:42Speaker 5: handed batter and he has no interest on trying to
- 10:44Speaker 5: get the ball on the ground to the right side.
- 10:46Speaker 5: You can you can see that from the side, and
- 10:48Speaker 5: you know, we we try to we try to.
- 10:49Speaker 2: Put a handle on that immediately.
- 10:51Speaker 5: You know, we have conversations about it, saying, you know,
- 10:54Speaker 5: what were you thinking in the box, this is what
- 10:56Speaker 5: you should have been trying to do.
- 10:57Speaker 2: And you know, ultimately, the game's hard.
- 11:00Speaker 5: You're not always going to be able to do do
- 11:03Speaker 5: the job, but you can tell when people are trying
- 11:05Speaker 5: and not trying to do it.
- 11:07Speaker 2: And uh, you know, for.
- 11:08Speaker 5: Us, that's always that's always a big sticking point for us,
- 11:13Speaker 5: is we we want to be doing things the right way,
- 11:15Speaker 5: and you know, we've always tried to harp on that.
- 11:20Speaker 1: Max question for you about a new teammate. Have you
- 11:22Speaker 1: had any conversations about last year's World Series with Eric
- 11:26Speaker 1: Lower yet?
- 11:28Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, I don't know if we've had any
- 11:32Speaker 5: conversations about last year's World Series, but we have had
- 11:35Speaker 5: a lot of conversations with him about him not liking
- 11:38Speaker 5: us very much when when he was pitching for other teams,
- 11:44Speaker 5: you know, and we've had some good laughs about it,
- 11:47Speaker 5: and uh, you know, those have been what most of
- 11:50Speaker 5: the conversations have been about.
- 11:51Speaker 2: I don't think we've talked about las year's World Series though.
- 11:54Speaker 2: That's good.
- 11:56Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 11:57Speaker 2: Who Yeah, we all bring it up. You know, it's
- 12:01Speaker 2: it's it's.
- 12:02Speaker 5: You come in that clubhouse. You know things are gonna
- 12:04Speaker 5: get brought up. And that's uh uh. You know, we
- 12:07Speaker 5: all kind of brought it up, and you know, we
- 12:09Speaker 5: we we had a good laugh about it. And you
- 12:11Speaker 5: know it's not it was nothing too bad, but we
- 12:13Speaker 5: you know, we had a good laugh.
- 12:15Speaker 4: That's good.
- 12:16Speaker 2: I mean, you want that, nothing you want that doesn't
- 12:19Speaker 2: By the way, nothing is sacred.
- 12:21Speaker 6: Nothing is sacred in the clubhouse, Scott, I mean your
- 12:23Speaker 6: fan Like you don't make fun of people's kids or
- 12:25Speaker 6: wives or girlfriends or any of that stuff. But anything
- 12:28Speaker 6: else that has happened in baseball is fair game in
- 12:31Speaker 6: the clubhouse. You can no matter what you've done. If
- 12:33Speaker 6: you've done that, you could be the great. You could
- 12:34Speaker 6: be Shoho Tani. And he does something stupid, everybody remembers it.
- 12:38Speaker 6: It could be five years from now and he goes
- 12:40Speaker 6: to a different team, God forbid, and there'll be a
- 12:42Speaker 6: former team and they'll be like, show you remember.
- 12:44Speaker 4: That time you blah blah blah.
- 12:46Speaker 6: There was nothing sacred, and that's what makes the clubhouse
- 12:48Speaker 6: the best place on earth.
- 12:50Speaker 2: Yeah. Absolutely.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Okay, So now going back to the postseason and then
- 12:55Speaker 1: take this to now again, what have you seen from
- 12:57Speaker 1: paihes this year? I know, you know, he's maybe in
- 13:00Speaker 1: a little bit of a slower stretch now, but he
- 13:01Speaker 1: was off to a roaring start. His number still on
- 13:03Speaker 1: the year exceptional, He plays great defense, all of that.
- 13:05Speaker 1: So you know, what are you seeing in terms of
- 13:07Speaker 1: his progression because you were with him in the trenches
- 13:10Speaker 1: while he was essentially an auto out for.
- 13:13Speaker 2: A time period.
- 13:13Speaker 1: He could not figure it out, and you know, I know,
- 13:15Speaker 1: it got complicated even with the lineup and everything, and
- 13:18Speaker 1: the team still won, so it's all good. But you
- 13:20Speaker 1: go from that where of course people are like, oh
- 13:22Speaker 1: can this guy hit good pitching? And then all of
- 13:24Speaker 1: a sudden, this year, I mean, he's been one of
- 13:26Speaker 1: the better players in the sport.
- 13:28Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, he's he's put in a ton of work.
- 13:32Speaker 5: He's going to be a superstar in this league. You know,
- 13:34Speaker 5: I fully believe that he's got the talent, he has
- 13:36Speaker 5: the makeup, he has the mentality for it.
- 13:39Speaker 2: You know. One of the things.
- 13:40Speaker 5: He's really really been trying to hone in on is
- 13:43Speaker 5: his approach in the box, and you know that was
- 13:46Speaker 5: something that I think got away from him a little
- 13:48Speaker 5: bit in the postseason, but you know that he put
- 13:52Speaker 5: a lot of emphasis on that and coming into this year,
- 13:54Speaker 5: you know when he when you hear him talk about
- 13:56Speaker 5: what he wants to do in the box, it's very
- 13:59Speaker 5: it's starting to become very advanced, and it's it's been
- 14:01Speaker 5: a lot of fun to watch, especially for me.
- 14:04Speaker 2: You know, just seeing a.
- 14:06Speaker 5: Guy that uh may or may not have been labeled
- 14:10Speaker 5: as a free swinger find a way to you know,
- 14:12Speaker 5: dial in and approach a little bit better, and you know,
- 14:16Speaker 5: it's it's just been really fun to watch. And you know,
- 14:18Speaker 5: I guess that that that's kind of been the big
- 14:20Speaker 5: difference for him is learning, you know, what to focus
- 14:24Speaker 5: on when it comes to an approach based you know,
- 14:26Speaker 5: when you're getting in the box.
- 14:27Speaker 2: And I think that's why he's been having such a
- 14:29Speaker 2: great start.
- 14:32Speaker 6: Max abs. There's teams doing ABS practice now, the Red
- 14:36Speaker 6: Sox were doing it where they practice their abs. You
- 14:39Speaker 6: have an ABS challenge that much this year and I
- 14:41Speaker 6: consider you to have one of the better eyes in
- 14:43Speaker 6: the league. Is that just because or is it because
- 14:47Speaker 6: you don't know when to challenge, like why why only
- 14:50Speaker 6: four so far?
- 14:52Speaker 4: Now?
- 14:53Speaker 5: I for me, it needs to be a big situation
- 14:57Speaker 5: for me to want to challenge, unless it's something that's
- 14:59Speaker 5: in the other as box and nine hundred percent notes
- 15:01Speaker 5: a ball. But I haven't had one pitch yet this
- 15:04Speaker 5: year where I've immediately just been like, oh, that was
- 15:07Speaker 5: a ball.
- 15:08Speaker 2: I need to challenge that.
- 15:10Speaker 5: You know, a lot of them have been closed. And
- 15:12Speaker 5: with the way the abs works, if it's just one
- 15:15Speaker 5: you know, stitch of the ball touching the zone, it's
- 15:18Speaker 5: a strike. So it's like there's a lot of there's
- 15:21Speaker 5: a lot of pitches where I've been like, A, I
- 15:22Speaker 5: think that's a ball, but you know it might be
- 15:25Speaker 5: right there on the edge and you go back and
- 15:26Speaker 5: look at it, and you know it's it's what is
- 15:28Speaker 5: it less than less than one inch off or you
- 15:31Speaker 5: know whatever the measurement is, and it's like, Okay, maybe
- 15:34Speaker 5: I could have challenged that, but you know it was
- 15:36Speaker 5: a it's a it's a one to one count or
- 15:38Speaker 5: it's a one to two count, and you know it's
- 15:40Speaker 5: just like it's not that big a deal.
- 15:43Speaker 2: And that's one of the things that we've talked.
- 15:44Speaker 5: About a bunch as a team is that, you know,
- 15:47Speaker 5: we need to save those challenges mainly for the pitching
- 15:49Speaker 5: staff and for big situations later in the game, so
- 15:53Speaker 5: you don't want to just fire it off.
- 15:54Speaker 2: And you know, we we have we.
- 15:55Speaker 5: Have charts that go over low leverage versu higher high leverage,
- 15:59Speaker 5: and you know that's that's one of the things that
- 16:02Speaker 5: that we've talked about a bunch as the team. Also
- 16:04Speaker 5: is one should we be we be using abs challenges
- 16:07Speaker 5: and you know, ultimately we want the catcher to have
- 16:09Speaker 5: as many challenges as he as he can have the
- 16:11Speaker 5: entire game with our pitching staff, you know, we want
- 16:14Speaker 5: Will and we want Dalton to be able to you know,
- 16:17Speaker 5: change the game that way. And we trust ourselves as
- 16:21Speaker 5: an offense that we you know, we can get it
- 16:23Speaker 5: done without it.
- 16:25Speaker 1: Now that you've seen it for a third of a season,
- 16:28Speaker 1: do you think that we should have one more added?
- 16:30Speaker 4: Wait?
- 16:30Speaker 1: Wait, wait, one more added for the postseason? I feel
- 16:33Speaker 1: like regular season.
- 16:34Speaker 2: I'm good.
- 16:34Speaker 1: I'm just wondering because what you just mentioned is going
- 16:36Speaker 1: to happen in the playoffs, but it could be the
- 16:38Speaker 1: third inning and then we could look back and be like, oh,
- 16:40Speaker 1: what if that happened in the third inning. There's so
- 16:42Speaker 1: many more eyeballs and everything's just higher stakes there. So
- 16:45Speaker 1: I'm just wondering, is too still good or do you
- 16:48Speaker 1: think we should consider it in the future for adding
- 16:50Speaker 1: one more to feel like you can be comfortable challenging
- 16:54Speaker 1: early on in a game in a big spot.
- 16:56Speaker 5: Yeah, you know that is that is a good point
- 16:58Speaker 5: because pretty much every in the postseason is a high
- 17:01Speaker 5: leverage of bat So you know.
- 17:04Speaker 2: That's a that's a good point. I haven't really thought
- 17:06Speaker 2: about that. Uh.
- 17:08Speaker 5: For me, I do like the two because I think
- 17:10Speaker 5: it adds that challenge of you know, should you use
- 17:14Speaker 5: it now or should you save it? Or you know,
- 17:16Speaker 5: well now if you're out of challenges, does the umpire
- 17:19Speaker 5: make the zone a little bit bigger?
- 17:21Speaker 8: You know?
- 17:22Speaker 2: I kind of like that added element to it.
- 17:28Speaker 5: But you know, at the same time, maybe one more
- 17:30Speaker 5: in the postseason wouldn't hurt I don't I don't know.
- 17:32Speaker 2: I really haven't even thought about that.
- 17:35Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 17:36Speaker 6: I like the TOO.
- 17:38Speaker 4: I like the TOO.
- 17:39Speaker 6: I like the TOO. But by the way, you mentioned
- 17:40Speaker 6: Dalton Rushing. Katie Wu did a great article on him
- 17:44Speaker 6: not that long ago. She called me because she apparently
- 17:46Speaker 6: thinks that I'm don't like Dalton Rushing or Dalton Rushing
- 17:49Speaker 6: is like me, which I hope Dalton Rushing is not
- 17:51Speaker 6: like me. But can you give me some insight? Because
- 17:54Speaker 6: I did y'all's game in Milwaukee not that long ago.
- 17:57Speaker 6: You didn't talk to me, not a shocker, you know,
- 17:59Speaker 6: bigly me.
- 18:00Speaker 9: It's cool?
- 18:00Speaker 6: What No, it didn't even that didn't even come out,
- 18:03Speaker 6: didn't even say hi.
- 18:04Speaker 4: Nothing. That's cool.
- 18:05Speaker 6: I get it, But can.
- 18:07Speaker 5: You my wrist was shattered. I got hit with ninety
- 18:10Speaker 5: eight in the wrist by Aaron Ashby.
- 18:12Speaker 2: Give me a break found him.
- 18:18Speaker 6: I'm not going into There's only certain teams I can
- 18:20Speaker 6: go into the training room. The Dodgers that ain't it.
- 18:23Speaker 6: That ain't one of the teams I can walk in
- 18:25Speaker 6: the training room on because I you know, you know
- 18:28Speaker 6: that's that's a no. I don't want to know.
- 18:29Speaker 4: What's happened in that training room.
- 18:31Speaker 6: There's a couple, but there's a few that I can
- 18:32Speaker 6: walk into the training room that the Dodgers ain't one
- 18:34Speaker 6: of them. But uh yeah, so can you just give
- 18:38Speaker 6: me a little bit on rushing because I think I
- 18:40Speaker 6: love the way he goes about it. I know he's
- 18:42Speaker 6: not the you know whatever, He's done some stuff. Listen,
- 18:45Speaker 6: I've said stuff. I've said ship I'll say it. I've
- 18:48Speaker 6: called guys bad names that I wouldn't call them if
- 18:51Speaker 6: they were sitting next to me in the heat of
- 18:52Speaker 6: the battle. I've I've guys have tried to take me
- 18:55Speaker 6: out when they could run you over, and I've said
- 18:57Speaker 6: comments to them and they've said things back. I mean,
- 19:01Speaker 6: I don't it's the way he plays, But I don't know,
- 19:05Speaker 6: what do you What is he like as a teammate,
- 19:06Speaker 6: because I want to hear from a teammate.
- 19:08Speaker 2: Oh, he's great as a teammate. You know, it's.
- 19:10Speaker 5: It's it's he's a great kid.
- 19:14Speaker 2: You know, he's he's well received in the clubhouse.
- 19:17Speaker 5: And it's honestly, it's just one of those things where
- 19:20Speaker 5: you kind of mentioned it that when he gets on
- 19:22Speaker 5: the field, he plays a certain way and that's what
- 19:25Speaker 5: makes him good. And you know that's why ultimately for us,
- 19:30Speaker 5: you know, we've we've stated several times as a team
- 19:33Speaker 5: we like to let guys be who they are and
- 19:34Speaker 5: we don't want to change who they are, and we
- 19:36Speaker 5: don't if a guy needs to play a certain way
- 19:38Speaker 5: to perform. We want him to play that way, and
- 19:41Speaker 5: you know when it when it comes to him, when
- 19:43Speaker 5: he gets on the field, it's very football mentality. And
- 19:48Speaker 5: you know, he might he might see red a little bit,
- 19:52Speaker 5: but ultimately that's what's made him the player he is,
- 19:55Speaker 5: and it's gotten him to the big leagues and it's
- 19:57Speaker 5: gotten him the start that he's got.
- 19:58Speaker 2: And you that's just how he plays the game. You know.
- 20:04Speaker 5: The Diaronic thing is, it's that's not who he is
- 20:07Speaker 5: in the clubhouse and who he is as a teammate.
- 20:09Speaker 2: It's just, you know, how it comes out on the field.
- 20:13Speaker 1: You gotta have some Perzinski's in the sport every once
- 20:17Speaker 1: in a while.
- 20:17Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly. It's fun.
- 20:20Speaker 1: Max, good stuff, man, great to catch up with you.
- 20:23Speaker 1: Have a good rest of the series. We'll catch you soon.
- 20:25Speaker 2: All right, sounds good guys.
- 20:31Speaker 3: Hello everybody, and welcome to a brand new episode of
- 20:34Speaker 3: Dodgers Territory. We are live for the next thirty forty minutes.
- 20:37Speaker 3: My name is Alana Rizzo. That of course is Katie
- 20:39Speaker 3: wu catcher at the Athletic make sure you're reading all
- 20:42Speaker 3: of her stuff. And of course Clint Piscias. We're gonna
- 20:45Speaker 3: skip all the pleasantries guys, because we have a great
- 20:47Speaker 3: guest on the show today. We are so excited to
- 20:49Speaker 3: welcome three time World Series champion, three time National League
- 20:53Speaker 3: All Star, and ABS wizard Will Smith joining the program.
- 20:58Speaker 3: Will great to see you, happy that you are are
- 21:01Speaker 3: kind enough to take a few minutes to be with us.
- 21:04Speaker 3: All right, So two months into the season, how would
- 21:06Speaker 3: you assess it so far? What grade would you give
- 21:10Speaker 3: your squad?
- 21:12Speaker 4: I think we've been decent, you know. I don't think
- 21:14Speaker 4: we've been playing our best baseball, you know, for two months.
- 21:17Speaker 4: We've had her ups and downs, had some good games obviously,
- 21:20Speaker 4: you know, guys are going out there doing doing their
- 21:22Speaker 4: thing and we're seeing great things. But yeah, I still
- 21:25Speaker 4: think there's room for improvement, like there is every year
- 21:27Speaker 4: with guys, you know, but it's a long year. I
- 21:31Speaker 4: think we're in a good spot right now.
- 21:33Speaker 8: Yeah, winners of fourteen of your last seventeen, I believe,
- 21:36Speaker 8: and then a pretty big series between the Dbacs.
- 21:38Speaker 4: They just got swept by.
- 21:39Speaker 8: The Mariners four game set, but they've been playing some
- 21:42Speaker 8: good baseball as well.
- 21:43Speaker 4: I thought.
- 21:44Speaker 5: So.
- 21:44Speaker 4: The one guy that we're not.
- 21:45Speaker 8: Going to see this this series on the mound is
- 21:47Speaker 8: Roki Sasaki. But we saw his best fastball on Saturday
- 21:51Speaker 8: against the Phillies. You were behind the plate. Roky's been
- 21:53Speaker 8: a work in progress and we know this. What did
- 21:56Speaker 8: you see from Roky lately, especially with the fastball below
- 21:59Speaker 8: that has you encouraged about it?
- 22:01Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 22:02Speaker 4: He he continues, you know, to work really hard on
- 22:04Speaker 4: his on his days in between starts. He's getting a
- 22:07Speaker 4: lot better. But he's also gaining some confidence the more
- 22:10Speaker 4: he goes out there and the more of success he has.
- 22:14Speaker 4: But yeah, I mean as far as his fastball, I
- 22:15Speaker 4: think he's just putting in better spots. He's more convicted
- 22:18Speaker 4: with it. I'm sure he's cleaned up some mechanics things
- 22:20Speaker 4: to get the villa a little bit back up to
- 22:22Speaker 4: where you know, we were all hype to see him
- 22:24Speaker 4: when he came from Japan. His slider's going along great.
- 22:27Speaker 4: His his splitter has been really good. You know, he's
- 22:30Speaker 4: just attacking guys and and uh, you know, letting his
- 22:33Speaker 4: stuff work. He's been he's been really good the last
- 22:35Speaker 4: few starts.
- 22:36Speaker 10: A guy who was really good over the weekend for
- 22:39Speaker 10: you guys particularly, was it yesterday Ryan Ward hits his
- 22:42Speaker 10: first career home run.
- 22:44Speaker 9: I'm a big Wardo guy. I've had him on my
- 22:46Speaker 9: show in the past. Love that guy.
- 22:47Speaker 10: Happy he's getting an opportunity here. I know how it
- 22:50Speaker 10: goes in those clubhouses. Obviously, being a former ballplayer that
- 22:53Speaker 10: I am not. What kind of crap do you guys
- 22:56Speaker 10: give Ryan Ward there after he hits his first home
- 22:59Speaker 10: run is a lot of shame of pain, beer, throwing
- 23:01Speaker 10: the soap at him, throwing.
- 23:02Speaker 9: Him in the laundering cart. How did that? How'd that go?
- 23:04Speaker 4: Yeah? Yeah, a little little beer shower. There might be
- 23:07Speaker 4: a few other things mixed in. Uh, it's getting a
- 23:09Speaker 4: little out of hand, but uh yeah, No, we're all
- 23:11Speaker 4: excited for him. You know, he's he's been through a
- 23:13Speaker 4: long road, so we were just excited to, you know,
- 23:16Speaker 4: enjoy that moment for him.
- 23:17Speaker 3: Yesterday, I want to ask you kind of the same
- 23:20Speaker 3: question Will about Justin Robleski. He's kind of come into
- 23:23Speaker 3: his own as well, to just really the maturation process
- 23:26Speaker 3: that I've seen over the course of time that he's
- 23:28Speaker 3: taken the ball. What have you noticed about his development
- 23:31Speaker 3: in particular?
- 23:33Speaker 4: Yeah, he's been he's he's having one heck of a year.
- 23:37Speaker 4: You know, I think he's just he's just uh just
- 23:40Speaker 4: really dialing in his pitches. You know, he's really convicted
- 23:42Speaker 4: and what he's what he's doing. He's always he always
- 23:44Speaker 4: has been ever since he got called up. But I think,
- 23:47Speaker 4: you know, he's got a really good feel of of
- 23:49Speaker 4: of the strike zone and you know, how to get
- 23:50Speaker 4: the ball in and out to to leftis hand righties,
- 23:53Speaker 4: and Slider's been really good. You know, we're mixing some curveballs,
- 23:55Speaker 4: some changeups. He just mixed the speeds, you know, staying
- 23:59Speaker 4: off the barrels and just just pitching really well.
- 24:02Speaker 8: So well, Dodgers Territory is a pro Dodgers reliever show.
- 24:06Speaker 8: We were a little apprehensive when Edwin Diaz went out
- 24:09Speaker 8: and we were like, who's going to come out on
- 24:11Speaker 8: the scene. Clint's been a big Kyle Hurt guy. He's
- 24:13Speaker 8: been on Kyle Hurt since the beginning. Uh, we're all
- 24:16Speaker 8: on the bandwagon now. But as you look at your
- 24:18Speaker 8: bullpen and you see a bunch of these names come in.
- 24:20Speaker 8: You just had that scoreless streak in May thirty eight, Indians,
- 24:23Speaker 8: I believe who has stood out to you that maybe
- 24:26Speaker 8: you weren't expecting or weren't I don't know, totally familiar
- 24:30Speaker 8: with their stuff. Some of the young guys that have
- 24:32Speaker 8: really helped solidify this bullpen in May.
- 24:35Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I feel like, you know, Kyle Hurt's
- 24:38Speaker 4: been awesome obviously, and Guarda has been really good. I
- 24:42Speaker 4: think he's still got a lot of rooms for improvement.
- 24:43Speaker 4: I think you know, this guy's ceiling for him. You
- 24:47Speaker 4: got you know, you got Vesia. It's kind of hacreing
- 24:49Speaker 4: the bullpen right now, trying in as well. Veteran guy
- 24:52Speaker 4: leaving the guys, Tanner Scott's been been phenomenal this whole year.
- 24:58Speaker 4: Probably missing a few guys, but uh, they've been really good.
- 25:01Speaker 4: You know, they they step up when when their names called. Obviously,
- 25:05Speaker 4: Will Clin's been really good as well. He's been he's
- 25:07Speaker 4: beginning to ball in some leather situations, eating up some innings.
- 25:11Speaker 4: But yeah, I think, you know, they're just they're just
- 25:13Speaker 4: they're just really attacking hitters. You know, they're really confident
- 25:16Speaker 4: right now. So that's you know, my job, Dalton's job,
- 25:19Speaker 4: to keep them going.
- 25:20Speaker 10: You know, they got a catcher usually behind the plate,
- 25:23Speaker 10: whether it's you or whether it's Dalton, who are helping
- 25:25Speaker 10: out with the.
- 25:26Speaker 9: Challenge system and all that.
- 25:28Speaker 10: You're a couple of months into ABS and the challenges,
- 25:30Speaker 10: How has your opinion about it changed at all? Because
- 25:33Speaker 10: I don't think it was in the minor leagues when
- 25:35Speaker 10: you were down their way back when. How's your opinion
- 25:38Speaker 10: kind of evolved over a couple of months of having
- 25:40Speaker 10: a challenge on it because.
- 25:41Speaker 9: You're good at it. The numbers tell you pretty good
- 25:43Speaker 9: at it.
- 25:45Speaker 4: Yeah, I like it. I think it's good. You know,
- 25:47Speaker 4: I think the umpires are having to kind of step
- 25:50Speaker 4: up their game to bring their egg game every night
- 25:52Speaker 4: because because they can get challenged any single pitch and
- 25:55Speaker 4: showing shown on the big board. But I also think,
- 25:58Speaker 4: you know, we're all we're on the same page. What
- 26:00Speaker 4: the strike zone? It's the ABS zone. You know, there
- 26:03Speaker 4: is always some gray area. What was on TV? What
- 26:05Speaker 4: you know the umpires are getting judged on and then
- 26:07Speaker 4: probably a third or fourth report that was coming out
- 26:10Speaker 4: what's to strike?
- 26:11Speaker 2: What's the bold?
- 26:11Speaker 4: So I think it's good we're all on the same page. Obviously,
- 26:15Speaker 4: it's nice when you're hitting, you get a challenge, you're catching,
- 26:17Speaker 4: and you get a sway account with the pitch. So
- 26:20Speaker 4: I think it's good overall, I don't think it's a
- 26:23Speaker 4: perfect system yet, but but it's it's been pretty good
- 26:26Speaker 4: so far.
- 26:27Speaker 3: Well, there's some folks on different teams that are not
- 26:30Speaker 3: allowed to use abs, are not allowed to tap their
- 26:32Speaker 3: head because their managers have said, Nope, you don't get
- 26:35Speaker 3: that privilege. What is your mental checklist that you need
- 26:38Speaker 3: to know when you're going to go ahead and challenge?
- 26:41Speaker 3: Is it you know a certain amount of outs in
- 26:42Speaker 3: the inning? Is it when runners are in scoring position,
- 26:44Speaker 3: if it's early late in the game. What do you
- 26:47Speaker 3: go through to determine if you're going to say, hey,
- 26:49Speaker 3: I need to I need to check that.
- 26:51Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean obviously the ones that are are for sure,
- 26:54Speaker 4: you know, strikes that they miss, you're going to challenge that.
- 26:58Speaker 4: But I mean even then, you're amused, pretty confident when
- 27:00Speaker 4: I do, and sometimes I'm still wrong. So it's you know,
- 27:03Speaker 4: bigger situations. You know minutes corre position obviously, you know
- 27:08Speaker 4: two strike three ball accounts as well. Yeah, I think
- 27:13Speaker 4: I think there's some pitches that are the borderline that
- 27:16Speaker 4: you can flip a coin, but you might be in
- 27:17Speaker 4: favor of with certain pictures. But yeah, just just kind
- 27:21Speaker 4: of feeling situation out feeling. You know, sometimes the pitcher
- 27:24Speaker 4: might need a strike, they're kind of struggling, and there
- 27:27Speaker 4: might be a time to try to get him back
- 27:28Speaker 4: in the zone by by getting it, by getting it called,
- 27:31Speaker 4: you know, reversed. So just just a lot of thought.
- 27:35Speaker 4: It's a lot of reactionary, but just well thought out,
- 27:38Speaker 4: kind of pre I guess.
- 27:41Speaker 9: We were.
- 27:42Speaker 8: I think one abs challenge shy of the record yesterday
- 27:45Speaker 8: nine against home point umpire Sean Barber, so that that
- 27:49Speaker 8: added to the three plus hour game on getaway Day
- 27:51Speaker 8: that I'm sure everybody loved.
- 27:53Speaker 4: But dol Rushing had a nice first inning.
- 27:55Speaker 8: Two successful challenges, got two punch outs for Yoshinobu Yamamoto,
- 27:58Speaker 8: and cameras captured. Dave Roberts hyped celebrating Dalton in the dugout.
- 28:02Speaker 8: It's been a work in progress for him. Dalton's also
- 28:05Speaker 8: been kind of in the limelight a lot, as you
- 28:07Speaker 8: guys know, the first couple of months of the season.
- 28:09Speaker 8: But you guys work so closely together. What have you
- 28:11Speaker 8: seen from Dalton's growth, especially this season.
- 28:15Speaker 4: Yeah, he you know, he works, he works so hard.
- 28:18Speaker 4: He's always you know, catching out the machine, working working
- 28:21Speaker 4: with the catching coaches. He's always in the in the
- 28:23Speaker 4: batting cage, you know, swinging, working on a swing, trying
- 28:25Speaker 4: to stay ready. It's it's a hard job, not playing
- 28:28Speaker 4: every day, but trying to keep timing. But you know,
- 28:31Speaker 4: he's a competitor. He's going out there with fire. He's
- 28:33Speaker 4: going out there trying to win a ball game and
- 28:35Speaker 4: try to you know, be the best catcher back there
- 28:37Speaker 4: for our pictures that he can. But yeah, it's it's
- 28:41Speaker 4: the big leads. Everything's a learning process from from uh,
- 28:45Speaker 4: just anything and everything. So he's he's he's been doing
- 28:48Speaker 4: all right. He's been doing good. You know, he's We're
- 28:51Speaker 4: lucky to have him.
- 28:53Speaker 10: You know, we haven't brought up of course, we talked
- 28:55Speaker 10: to you at spring training, we talked about the World
- 28:57Speaker 10: Series and haven't brought up the World Series yet. Congrats
- 29:00Speaker 10: three time World Series champion. You're running out of space
- 29:03Speaker 10: on that hand for rings, But yeah, to work your
- 29:06Speaker 10: ass off during that World Series. Man, who do you
- 29:08Speaker 10: think was more worn down or what do you think
- 29:11Speaker 10: was more worn down? Your legs or Yama's right arm,
- 29:15Speaker 10: because you guys put a lot.
- 29:17Speaker 4: I don't know, I don't know. I was eighteen any
- 29:21Speaker 4: game to get everything out of me. I was kind
- 29:24Speaker 4: of struggling after that. But yeah, what Yoshi did was
- 29:26Speaker 4: this was incredible. You know, still go out there, get
- 29:28Speaker 4: out you know, I just got to squat back there
- 29:31Speaker 4: and catch the ball. He's got to actually make pitches,
- 29:33Speaker 4: change speeds, you know, still throw the ball hard. It
- 29:36Speaker 4: was it was incredible what he did. And yeah, it
- 29:39Speaker 4: was the soreness for a few weeks after. It was
- 29:42Speaker 4: a lot more enjoyable with with the win instead of
- 29:44Speaker 4: you know.
- 29:44Speaker 8: A loss.
- 29:46Speaker 3: It's still weird for me will to see Clayton Kershaw
- 29:49Speaker 3: in the stands enjoying a baseball game as a fan
- 29:52Speaker 3: with two of his kids. What's it like for you
- 29:55Speaker 3: guys to see Kersh on the other side of things?
- 29:57Speaker 3: Obviously there he is enjoying life with Rad Paisley Lon
- 30:01Speaker 3: Rosen behind them there in the owner's seats. It's just weird,
- 30:05Speaker 3: but good for him. He went out on top the
- 30:07Speaker 3: way he wanted to. What's it been like for you
- 30:09Speaker 3: guys in that clubhouse.
- 30:11Speaker 4: Yeah, it's you know, it's definitely you know, presidence is missing.
- 30:14Speaker 4: He was. He was He was special, you know, obviously
- 30:16Speaker 4: on the field, but also as a teammate, keeping things
- 30:19Speaker 4: light in the clubhouse each and every day as the
- 30:21Speaker 4: season goes goes along. But uh yeah, the other day,
- 30:24Speaker 4: I didn't really know he was gonna be there, and
- 30:25Speaker 4: then went on deck my first second bass saw him,
- 30:28Speaker 4: said Hi. Yeah, I didn't really get to talk too much,
- 30:31Speaker 4: but he was enjoying it. He was kind of you know,
- 30:34Speaker 4: he came by the dugout, said some words at some points,
- 30:36Speaker 4: but uh yeah, it was good to see him just
- 30:38Speaker 4: enjoying the game, cheering us on.
- 30:40Speaker 9: Hey hey, I got a quick follow on that one.
- 30:42Speaker 10: I mean, obviously Kersh is the master behind behind shirtless Sundays.
- 30:47Speaker 9: Those still living on there in the clubhouse or retired.
- 30:51Speaker 4: Then yeah, they're still going on. Yeah for sure, that's awesome, Katie.
- 30:54Speaker 9: What do you guys?
- 30:56Speaker 8: You know, the real journalism that we need to know
- 30:59Speaker 8: is always your Dodge's territory. Uh well, we're both here
- 31:03Speaker 8: in Arizona. It's hot outside, it's June. I feel like
- 31:07Speaker 8: we were on the road for all of May. Maybe
- 31:08Speaker 8: it was that free city trip, but I'm always curious
- 31:11Speaker 8: to know what's your what's your favorite road city, and
- 31:13Speaker 8: what's your ideal off day on the road look like?
- 31:16Speaker 8: Are you a golfer. Are you like gonna just chill inside?
- 31:19Speaker 8: What's what's it like for you?
- 31:21Speaker 4: Yeah? No, I'm definitely gonna probably be on the golf
- 31:23Speaker 4: course if my family's not there. But yeah, favorite road city, uh.
- 31:29Speaker 4: I always like going to New York. You know, there's
- 31:31Speaker 4: good restaurants, there's always stuff to do, there's good golf
- 31:33Speaker 4: courses around. New York's fun. Chicago is great as well.
- 31:39Speaker 4: San Diego is always nice, just you know, perfect weather,
- 31:42Speaker 4: you got the beach, good golf as well. Families usually
- 31:45Speaker 4: in San Diego, which is which is nice? Yeah, there's
- 31:48Speaker 4: there's definitely some good spots. Arizona's nice. Get to go home,
- 31:51Speaker 4: enjoy that.
- 31:53Speaker 8: Okay, flip side. Least favorite road city. I came from
- 31:56Speaker 8: the NL Central, so I have some duties.
- 31:59Speaker 4: Oh man, man, the favorite I don't know. I don't know.
- 32:06Speaker 4: Some of like most people's least favorite have like some
- 32:09Speaker 4: really good golf courses.
- 32:10Speaker 8: So okay, so there's a still relining everyone.
- 32:14Speaker 4: I like going to Pittsburgh. They have great golf courses there,
- 32:17Speaker 4: but most guys that aren't golfers probably wouldn't enjoy it.
- 32:20Speaker 4: Same with St. Louis. Some good golf courses there where
- 32:25Speaker 4: else where else. I don't know, I don't I don't
- 32:28Speaker 4: like hate going you know anywhere.
- 32:30Speaker 3: Honestly, boy, exactly, that's exactly what what you want to hear.
- 32:37Speaker 3: So the other day, a couple months ago, we had
- 32:39Speaker 3: Brad Paisley on the show.
- 32:41Speaker 2: Obviously you know he's a massive Dodgers fan.
- 32:43Speaker 3: But we were talking about Netflix as a joke, and
- 32:45Speaker 3: obviously this year Ken ken Jung was on with you guys,
- 32:48Speaker 3: Cedric the entertainer has been doing it before. Obviously this
- 32:50Speaker 3: is all for your your foundation and stuff. But Brad
- 32:53Speaker 3: said that you're not funny? Is there is there something?
- 32:56Speaker 4: I mean?
- 32:56Speaker 3: He was obviously joking, Okay, I don't want to start
- 32:59Speaker 3: a war really that. He's like, I'll go on that
- 33:02Speaker 3: show with Will, I'll go do something with him. And
- 33:05Speaker 3: he was joking that you're not funny. So I just
- 33:07Speaker 3: wanted to throw that out. What's that been like for you?
- 33:09Speaker 3: Because you're funny, your your personality is just kind of
- 33:12Speaker 3: like an even keeled dude, right, which you need to
- 33:14Speaker 3: be as as a catcher, just an even killed guy.
- 33:17Speaker 3: How did you get involved in the comedic scene with
- 33:21Speaker 3: this program.
- 33:23Speaker 4: Yeah, So we we obviously wanted to you know, do
- 33:26Speaker 4: a fundraiser for our for our foundation. And Netflix actually
- 33:31Speaker 4: reached out to to us, and we we just kind
- 33:33Speaker 4: of jumped on. We generally know what we were getting
- 33:35Speaker 4: ourselves into. But obviously a big company like Netflix, you
- 33:39Speaker 4: know they're going to do a good job and and
- 33:41Speaker 4: and do and help us out a lot. So yeah,
- 33:44Speaker 4: we've done three of them. Now we get you know,
- 33:47Speaker 4: great comedians, a list comedians, which is awesome, and it's
- 33:51Speaker 4: just it's just a fun night. The guys love coming
- 33:52Speaker 4: out with their wives. It's like a little date night
- 33:54Speaker 4: for them. We get a lot of people there that
- 33:57Speaker 4: come and support us and donate. We were able to
- 33:59Speaker 4: you know, raised a lot of money, which is which
- 34:01Speaker 4: is fun. But uh yeah, I'm not I'm not getting
- 34:03Speaker 4: up on stage doing any comedy.
- 34:05Speaker 2: Any comedy's tight five.
- 34:12Speaker 8: Sorry, well we will leave k K out of this
- 34:15Speaker 8: because he's the easy answer. But who is the funniest
- 34:18Speaker 8: guy in the clubhouse.
- 34:21Speaker 4: I'm gonna go to Miggy. You know, I think he's
- 34:23Speaker 4: great on the mic. He's always keeping it light, he's
- 34:25Speaker 4: always just joking around. Soggie with that one.
- 34:30Speaker 8: I see it, I see it.
- 34:31Speaker 9: Micky's good. Micky's good.
- 34:33Speaker 10: He's one of those guys we've We've had some people
- 34:34Speaker 10: on the show here, you know, some of your teammates
- 34:36Speaker 10: who talk about the importance We've probably talked to you
- 34:39Speaker 10: about him in the past, importance of Miguel Rojas being
- 34:42Speaker 10: a unifier in that clubhouse. How has he kind of been,
- 34:45Speaker 10: you know, it feels like he's a little wishy washy
- 34:47Speaker 10: on whether or not is this gonna be his last
- 34:49Speaker 10: year or not? How how has he been this year
- 34:52Speaker 10: in terms of, you know, bringing together a different group.
- 34:56Speaker 10: A lot of you guys are obviously the same one
- 34:58Speaker 10: two titles in a row, but every years different. Every
- 35:01Speaker 10: clubhouse is just a little bit different, bringing in people
- 35:03Speaker 10: like Kyle Tucker, different guys in the bullpen. How has
- 35:06Speaker 10: Mickey evolved in becoming a leader and of course eventually
- 35:10Speaker 10: a manager somewhere in the big league is probably the
- 35:13Speaker 10: second he hangs up those spikes.
- 35:16Speaker 4: Yeah, he's he's great. You know, he's he's the same
- 35:18Speaker 4: guy every day. You know, he's he's consistent. You know,
- 35:22Speaker 4: he's competitive. Even when he's not playing, he's competitive. He's
- 35:24Speaker 4: trying to, you know, help us win a ball game.
- 35:27Speaker 4: He's great with with you know, he sees something, he's
- 35:30Speaker 4: going to tell somebody, you know, they should have done
- 35:32Speaker 4: this or that in that situation. A great job, nice play.
- 35:36Speaker 4: You know, he's just always watching, he's always paying attention.
- 35:39Speaker 4: He's making sure, you know, guys are doing what they
- 35:41Speaker 4: need to do and do it the right way, and
- 35:43Speaker 4: you know, playing good baseball and just kind of holding
- 35:45Speaker 4: everybody accountable and then off the field and stuff like that.
- 35:48Speaker 4: He's just he's just fun to be around. You know.
- 35:50Speaker 4: He shows up to everything. You know, he keeps everything
- 35:54Speaker 4: fun and uh and it's just a great guy you
- 35:56Speaker 4: want you want on your team, you know, helping, helping
- 35:59Speaker 4: lead you along.
- 36:01Speaker 2: Before we let you go.
- 36:02Speaker 3: How many times do you replay the game winning home
- 36:05Speaker 3: run in your mind? I would have it on repeat
- 36:08Speaker 3: in my house like a ticker everywhere, just watching it.
- 36:12Speaker 4: How many times do you relive it? Not that often, honestly,
- 36:16Speaker 4: you know, I think back to it all the time.
- 36:18Speaker 4: But yeah, I'm not like rewatching it a ton or
- 36:20Speaker 4: anything like that.
- 36:22Speaker 3: When Kersh won the first one in twenty twenty, he
- 36:26Speaker 3: would he continued to play we are the Champions by
- 36:29Speaker 3: Queen like out his door in Texas, like he just
- 36:33Speaker 3: kept reliving it. And then of course he has two
- 36:35Speaker 3: more after that. Will you are a three time World
- 36:37Speaker 3: Series champion. You are so good behind the plate managing
- 36:41Speaker 3: a game. Obviously you can hit a little bit too.
- 36:43Speaker 3: Congratulations to you and your beautiful wife Kara on baby
- 36:46Speaker 3: number three on the way, and best of luck against
- 36:49Speaker 3: the Diamondbacks and the remainder of the season. We appreciate
- 36:52Speaker 3: you very much.
- 36:54Speaker 4: Yeah, thanks guys, thanks for having me on
