- 0:27Speaker 1: made three free agent acquisitions here on Thursday. Two of
- 0:34Speaker 1: them I like, one of them, maybe not so much.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Let's start with the two that I like. They've added
- 0:42Speaker 1: Will Clap on a one year deal. We all know
- 0:45Speaker 1: Will Clap story. New Orleans guy brother Martin Lsu gets
- 0:50Speaker 1: drafted by the Saints in the seventh round and then
- 0:55Speaker 1: signs a free agent deal, spends a couple of years
- 0:58Speaker 1: in a in LA with the Chargers with Brandon Staley,
- 1:03Speaker 1: who's now the Saints defensive coordinator. This past year, Will
- 1:06Speaker 1: was in Buffalo with the Bills. I like this because
- 1:11Speaker 1: this is I believe the type of contract the New
- 1:14Speaker 1: Orleans Saints need to be signing. My contention is the
- 1:19Speaker 1: Saints aren't winning anything of significance. You're in a terrible
- 1:23Speaker 1: salary cap situation, So start signing guys that are capable,
- 1:29Speaker 1: versatile players that are affordable. Will Clap signed a one
- 1:33Speaker 1: year deal with the New Orleans Saints, and he is
- 1:37Speaker 1: a versatile player who can play center or either guard position.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Think about this past year, Eric McCoy, Lucas, Patrick, Nick Saldeveri,
- 1:46Speaker 1: Caesar Ruiz. It was a revolving door on your offensive
- 1:50Speaker 1: line for the New Orleans Saints. On the interior, Will
- 1:53Speaker 1: Clap can play all three positions. That is a versatile
- 1:56Speaker 1: player with starting experience, who is a veteran player who
- 2:00Speaker 1: knows your organization, knows the city. Of course, it's going
- 2:03Speaker 1: to be a fan favorite, and is affordable. Check love it.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Say same thing I would tell you about the Devon
- 2:09Speaker 1: Gotschaw trade. You got a veteran player who fits what
- 2:13Speaker 1: your organization needs a position to need, and you got
- 2:16Speaker 1: him affordably. Check. I like that a lot. They also
- 2:20Speaker 1: added Jack Stole. So Jack Stole is a tight end
- 2:27Speaker 1: who played for the Eagles from twenty twenty one to
- 2:30Speaker 1: twenty twenty three, then went to the Giants. On their
- 2:33Speaker 1: practice squad, failed to make the team or failed to
- 2:36Speaker 1: make the Giants fifty three, and they got signed back
- 2:39Speaker 1: by the Eagles on their practice squad. So he spent
- 2:41Speaker 1: this past year in Philly with Kellen Moore. So this
- 2:46Speaker 1: is a tight end who is probably a guy that
- 2:49Speaker 1: is going to have to fight to make the team.
- 2:51Speaker 1: No guarantee that he's going to make the roster, could
- 2:54Speaker 1: very well be a practice squad guy. But it's another
- 2:56Speaker 1: body at tight end. So you're talking about You got
- 2:59Speaker 1: Juwan Johnson who you just extended, Taysom Hill who's coming
- 3:03Speaker 1: off injury, Foster Moro is still there, and now you
- 3:06Speaker 1: add Jack Stole and a young veteran player on an
- 3:10Speaker 1: inexpensive contract who provides depth at that position. He'll have
- 3:15Speaker 1: to work to make this roster to make the fifty three,
- 3:17Speaker 1: which is quite honestly unlikely, but could happen while Taysom
- 3:21Speaker 1: Hill is injured. But I think we'll all assume Taysom's
- 3:23Speaker 1: going to start the season on the pup list because
- 3:25Speaker 1: then as you recover from the knee injury, so maybe
- 3:27Speaker 1: this is depth at tight end while Taysom Hill still recovers.
- 3:30Speaker 1: But again, a young veteran player that's affordable. Now, maybe
- 3:35Speaker 1: this also makes it less likely that to draft a
- 3:38Speaker 1: guy like Tyler Warren with a loaded tight end room. Okay,
- 3:42Speaker 1: now I'm not bullish on any of the tight ends
- 3:44Speaker 1: they have. Foster's been a versatile player, but the productivity
- 3:48Speaker 1: hasn't been there since he's been in New Orleans. Juwan
- 3:50Speaker 1: Johnson was a nice undrafted free agent. Fine, but to
- 3:55Speaker 1: offer him a three year, thirty million dollar contract, I
- 3:57Speaker 1: think you're overpaying for that player. But I think because
- 4:04Speaker 1: you have numbers there, this probably means you're not going
- 4:07Speaker 1: to be looking at Tyler Warren number nine in the draft. Now,
- 4:12Speaker 1: if you feel like you have a transcendent player there,
- 4:14Speaker 1: you could take him no matter what or Minja. A
- 4:15Speaker 1: year ago, the Atlanta Falcons gave Kirk Cousins a four year,
- 4:18Speaker 1: one hundred and eighty million dollar contract, and then with
- 4:21Speaker 1: the eighth pick they took Michael Pennox, And by the
- 4:23Speaker 1: end of the year, Pennix was starting and kirk Cousins
- 4:26Speaker 1: is no longer in Atlanta. So you always could do
- 4:29Speaker 1: whatever you want or whatever to think in the draft,
- 4:31Speaker 1: But if you're looking for what position of need is
- 4:35Speaker 1: available at nine. It's probably not tight end anymore. I
- 4:39Speaker 1: do like the familiarity with Kellen Moore. They were in
- 4:41Speaker 1: Philly last year together. And aside from Young and Red,
- 4:47Speaker 1: Chase Young and Justin Reid, you're seeing a lot of
- 4:50Speaker 1: bargain shopping in free agency, which should allow you to
- 4:53Speaker 1: take the best player at number nine no matter what.
- 4:55Speaker 1: And the third player that they signed on are announced
- 4:59Speaker 1: here on Thursday is a familiar name. It's Isaac Yadam.
- 5:03Speaker 1: His agent a J. Vaynerchuck, who's actually been a good
- 5:06Speaker 1: friend of the show for a long time. The Saints
- 5:09Speaker 1: have signed to Isaac Yadam back now. Yadam's twenty nine
- 5:12Speaker 1: years old. He was with the Saints in twenty twenty
- 5:15Speaker 1: two and twenty twenty three, and he ended up playing
- 5:18Speaker 1: in all seventeen games for the Saints, or assuming seventeen
- 5:22Speaker 1: games over those two seasons with eight starts in twenty
- 5:25Speaker 1: twenty three, played all seventeen games in twenty twenty three,
- 5:28Speaker 1: but eight starts. He was a very good player and
- 5:30Speaker 1: they wanted to resign him last year, but he signed
- 5:32Speaker 1: a free agent deal with San Francisco. He's a good
- 5:34Speaker 1: depth piece. When he had injuries to Marshawn Lattimore. Yadam
- 5:36Speaker 1: ended up starting if you remember two years ago, well
- 5:39Speaker 1: spent this year with the forty nine ers, played in
- 5:41Speaker 1: seventeen games the five starts. Here's the challenge I have
- 5:45Speaker 1: with Isaac Yadam. This is a guy that in his
- 5:50Speaker 1: career has played for the Broncos, Giants, Packers, Texans, Saints, Niners,
- 5:55Speaker 1: now the Saints again. He is a journeyman. He is
- 5:59Speaker 1: a journeyman that has largely been a backup. He's had
- 6:03Speaker 1: spot starts here and there. He's never started more than
- 6:05Speaker 1: ten games in a year. That was the COVID year
- 6:07Speaker 1: in twenty twenty he started ten times. So you've got
- 6:11Speaker 1: a journeyman who's pushing thirty, who's never been a full
- 6:14Speaker 1: time starter, and you gave him a three year deal.
- 6:19Speaker 1: There's only four and a half million guaranteed on the deal,
- 6:22Speaker 1: but it just doesn't make a lot of sense to
- 6:25Speaker 1: invest money in future years in players that are role
- 6:29Speaker 1: players for you. This is the type of thing where
- 6:32Speaker 1: I look and I go I like the player, I
- 6:35Speaker 1: like the addition of the player for depth. I don't
- 6:38Speaker 1: love the contract. Same thing I would say about Juwan Johnson,
- 6:41Speaker 1: same thing I would say about Justin Reid. I like
- 6:43Speaker 1: the player, I don't love the contract you gave the player.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Same thing I would tell you about Jase Young. And
- 6:47Speaker 1: I know the feedback I'm gonna get from some of you, Well,
- 6:50Speaker 1: you don't want to pay anybody. What's your roster gonna
- 6:51Speaker 1: look like? Exactly? What is your roster gonna look like?
- 6:57Speaker 1: How much better are you today with Chase Young and
- 7:02Speaker 1: Juwan Johnson? Oh? You mean all the same guys that
- 7:04Speaker 1: you had a year ago? Are you better at safety
- 7:07Speaker 1: today with Justin Reid over Will Harris? Yes? Marginally? Are
- 7:15Speaker 1: you better today with Isaac Yadam as You're you're slot
- 7:21Speaker 1: over having a guy like Paulson a debo come back?
- 7:24Speaker 1: I can't say that you are. I mean, the best
- 7:28Speaker 1: validation I can give you is one of the sports
- 7:31Speaker 1: books today. It was Sports Betting dot Ag. Sports Betting
- 7:37Speaker 1: dot Ag updated their Super Bowl odds. Now that we're
- 7:42Speaker 1: we're a few days into free agency, we've had the
- 7:44Speaker 1: first big wave of free agent moves. The New Orleans
- 7:48Speaker 1: Saints went into free agency one hundred and seventy five
- 7:51Speaker 1: to one to win the Super Bowl one seventy five
- 7:53Speaker 1: to one. The third worst odds only the Titans and
- 7:59Speaker 1: the Browns, the teams picking one to two in the draft,
- 8:01Speaker 1: had worse odds at two hundred to one than the
- 8:03Speaker 1: New Orleans Saints that was going into free agency. Today,
- 8:08Speaker 1: with all the roster moves they made, the New Orleans
- 8:10Speaker 1: Saints are one hundred and seventy five to one. Their
- 8:14Speaker 1: odds have not changed, I'll lick. But what they've done
- 8:17Speaker 1: is a mortgage future years. Because they put money into
- 8:20Speaker 1: future years against the cap, that's going to make it
- 8:22Speaker 1: even more difficult to build a contender in future years.
- 8:25Speaker 1: By the way, if you're wondering if teams that have
- 8:27Speaker 1: improved their odds, Washington Commanders added Deebo Samuel and defensive
- 8:35Speaker 1: line help quarterback by Jane Daniels. They went from eighteen
- 8:38Speaker 1: to one to sixteen to one, and the Cincinnati Bengals
- 8:42Speaker 1: Joey b went from twenty to one to eighteen to one.
- 8:46Speaker 1: So the top two teams that have improved their Super
- 8:48Speaker 1: Bowl odds are the Commanders and the Bengals
