- 0:34Speaker 4: So the Israeli establishment has found the guy who is
- 0:37Speaker 4: responsible for all of this.
- 0:39Speaker 5: And his name is it Tamar Ben Gavier, the Minister
- 0:43Speaker 5: of National Security in the state of Israel. He's under
- 0:46Speaker 5: fire across the board in the country because of a
- 0:50Speaker 5: video or multiple videos that he himself posted to social
- 0:54Speaker 5: media showing himself and his colleagues abusing hundreds of flotilla
- 1:00Speaker 5: activists that have been detained in Israel. So so there
- 1:04Speaker 5: you see them throwing a young woman down on the ground.
- 1:08Speaker 5: There's a smiling Ben Givier he's waving uh the Israeli
- 1:13Speaker 5: flag as he as he has these detainees hunched over.
- 1:16Speaker 5: They're they're roughing them up, they're dragging them around. They
- 1:19Speaker 5: start singing UH, the Israeli national anthem through them.
- 1:23Speaker 4: While singing. Here he's saying, you.
- 1:24Speaker 5: Know, basically said you need to say I love Israel
- 1:27Speaker 5: to this, to this detained protester. He did something. What's
- 1:33Speaker 5: what's curious in here that he's dragging they're dragging more around.
- 1:37Speaker 5: What's curious is that he did a version of this
- 1:41Speaker 5: on video the last time flotilla activists came through. It
- 1:47Speaker 5: was not quite as I guess there wasn't as long.
- 1:50Speaker 5: It was just a few seconds of him kind of
- 1:53Speaker 5: kind of abusive.
- 1:55Speaker 1: He always does it along a lot of times.
- 1:58Speaker 5: He goes into Palestinian prisons and like glories in the
- 2:01Speaker 5: statistic nature of the treatment. This time, though, it has
- 2:09Speaker 5: really blown back on him and you're getting condemnations from
- 2:14Speaker 5: across the world and even across the Israeli spectrum saying
- 2:19Speaker 5: that this is not Also, by the way, this is
- 2:23Speaker 5: something you should know as we talk about this. Benevie
- 2:26Speaker 5: is the head of the prison system. Prison system has
- 2:30Speaker 5: been in the news globally lately because of the systemic
- 2:34Speaker 5: abuses reported on towards Palestinians by by Nicholas Christoff at
- 2:41Speaker 5: the New York Times. A couple of weeks ago, we
- 2:43Speaker 5: ran a co written kind of first person piece by
- 2:48Speaker 5: two women, a German and an American, who had been
- 2:51Speaker 5: on the last flotilla, and they described their experience in
- 2:55Speaker 5: this prison system. One of them was brutalized on multiple occasions,
- 2:59Speaker 5: the other was raped. And this is a German and
- 3:02Speaker 5: an American, the two countries, two Western countries that are
- 3:06Speaker 5: most supportive of this government. And so let's run through
- 3:10Speaker 5: some of the backlash that.
- 3:11Speaker 4: That it's Ben Gaver is getting.
- 3:13Speaker 5: We put up D two here, Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs,
- 3:19Speaker 5: You knowingly caused harm to our state in this disgraceful display,
- 3:23Speaker 5: and not for the first time. You have undone tremendous
- 3:26Speaker 5: professional and successful efforts made by so many people, from
- 3:31Speaker 5: IDF soldiers to Foreign Ministry staff and many others. Know
- 3:35Speaker 5: you are not the face of Israel. I. Don't even
- 3:39Speaker 5: know where to start from that or start with that.
- 3:41Speaker 4: Let's just go.
- 3:42Speaker 5: Let's go to D three before we like collapse into
- 3:44Speaker 5: like some psychedelic type of seizure. All right, So, as
- 3:51Speaker 5: Israeli Prime Minister net Yahoo and foreign ministers are have
- 3:54Speaker 5: made clear, Intamar Ben Gavie is his reckless grandstanding is
- 3:58Speaker 5: not representative of government policy. I am Israel's top diplomat
- 4:02Speaker 5: in the United States, at the heart of our most
- 4:05Speaker 5: important alliance. Ben Gaver's antics take a sledgehammer to our
- 4:10Speaker 5: diplomatic efforts, while Israel's enemies gleefully jump on every unfortunate
- 4:15Speaker 5: nonsense to discredit and demonize the provocateurs of the flotilla charade.
- 4:20Speaker 5: Very very properly were properly detained in accordance with international
- 4:25Speaker 5: law and will be deported to their home country's end
- 4:28Speaker 5: of story. They were picked up by the way many
- 4:31Speaker 5: many many many many many many miles from is Israeli territory,
- 4:35Speaker 5: way way way out in international waters. So that part
- 4:41Speaker 5: is just, you know, not remotely true. And they're just
- 4:44Speaker 5: trying to deliver stuff to gods. I want the other
- 4:46Speaker 5: the other thing.
- 4:47Speaker 4: They just let them.
- 4:48Speaker 5: They don't have just a bunch of boats. It's not
- 4:51Speaker 5: that much stuff on the boats. Just let them deliver
- 4:53Speaker 5: the humanitarian aid like it's going to be okay. You're
- 4:56Speaker 5: like a pretty big military. You know, if they sneak
- 4:59Speaker 5: in a baseball bat, I think you're going to be okay.
- 5:02Speaker 5: Mike Huckabee even upset and put up D four here.
- 5:07Speaker 5: Mike Huckabee says that ben Vere quote betrayed the dignity
- 5:11Speaker 5: of his nation.
- 5:13Speaker 4: This is not who we are in D five real quick.
- 5:16Speaker 5: European leaders from Belgium to Ireland, Spain, like Italy so left,
- 5:22Speaker 5: left wing, right wing, center Canada. Everybody but the United
- 5:27Speaker 5: States was bothered by Ben Gvier.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Well, no, even the US. I just played.
- 5:34Speaker 4: I don't I don't think as an American anymore. I
- 5:40Speaker 4: mean that literally didn't click. Yeah, he's actually he's a
- 5:44Speaker 4: spokesperson for is Reelly go.
- 5:45Speaker 3: Upon a time people actually did think that. Yeah, man,
- 5:48Speaker 3: I mean, look, I have seen criticism before. Why so
- 5:54Speaker 3: much Israel coverage?
- 5:56Speaker 1: Here's my thing.
- 5:57Speaker 3: I haven't had a chance because you guys did such
- 5:58Speaker 3: a great job yesterday to react to the Thomas Massey saying,
- 6:01Speaker 3: how can you not now have to be hyper focused
- 6:04Speaker 3: on this country? This country is so dramatically influential that
- 6:08Speaker 3: the Kentucky Commonwealth of Kentucky's fourth District gets thirty five
- 6:14Speaker 3: million dollars poured into it by three billionaires, all of
- 6:18Speaker 3: whom are acting to protect the interests of this foreign state.
- 6:22Speaker 3: So yeah, actually, at a certain point, with our tax
- 6:24Speaker 3: dollars that are backing it, with the expansionary goals that
- 6:29Speaker 3: it has across the region, dragging US or coercing us,
- 6:32Speaker 3: or joining us, whatever adjective you want to use into
- 6:35Speaker 3: this war in Iran. And then now to have multiple
- 6:39Speaker 3: states on our books with BDS laws, all of that
- 6:42Speaker 3: was known, but then finally here to have Israel as
- 6:44Speaker 3: the final and most important factor in this Kentucky fourth
- 6:48Speaker 3: District race. How can you not now have to focus
- 6:51Speaker 3: entirely on the behavior of this nation, what we are
- 6:54Speaker 3: forced to tolerate as citizens of the United States, to
- 6:57Speaker 3: see how it's dramatic influence basically enables this type of
- 7:01Speaker 3: barbarism abroad, not only enables pays for protects at the
- 7:06Speaker 3: diplomatic stage. And if you dare question, and if you
- 7:09Speaker 3: dare say, hey, there's something wrong with that, there, actors here.
- 7:13Speaker 1: In the United States will spend millions to destroy your
- 7:16Speaker 1: political career.
- 7:17Speaker 3: This does not, also, though, absolve the President of the
- 7:19Speaker 3: United States who has decided to join forces you know
- 7:22Speaker 3: with these two and so ah, man, I gotta tell you,
- 7:25Speaker 3: I've been sitting in like a form of depression since
- 7:27Speaker 3: Massy Loss. And I didn't even like a lot of
- 7:29Speaker 3: the stuff that he stood for. I hated him for
- 7:32Speaker 3: so many different things. Someone it drove me crazy. But
- 7:35Speaker 3: there is an iconoclastic element to him, it seems not honestly, yeah,
- 7:40Speaker 3: I mean it is as like, yes, but yeah, he's not.
- 7:43Speaker 3: You know, I disagree with him on so so many
- 7:45Speaker 3: different things, but they're just his his level of bravery
- 7:49Speaker 3: to just kind of stand up and be like, yeah,
- 7:51Speaker 3: I don't support this. Actually I have a well grounded principles.
- 7:54Speaker 3: And then you know, to see the Cretan who replaced them, Golriden,
- 7:58Speaker 3: you know, can debate nothing. And I think the most
- 8:02Speaker 3: depressing element of it Ryan is that all those billionaires
- 8:05Speaker 3: in conjunction with the president could convince However many of
- 8:08Speaker 3: these you know, Boomer Fox newspeople just be.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Like, yeah, all right, he's right.
- 8:12Speaker 4: It was like these ai ads. That's the other crazy thing.
- 8:16Speaker 5: There are all these ai ads that these seventy plus
- 8:19Speaker 5: people watched where he's walking hand in hand with ilhan
- 8:23Speaker 5: Omar and AOC with this like fake AI CCT video
- 8:27Speaker 5: up to a hotel lobby and then it shows him
- 8:31Speaker 5: walking with AOC and ilan Omar into a hotel room
- 8:35Speaker 5: while they're saying he's engaged in a throttle Like we
- 8:39Speaker 5: get sort of like metaphorically what they're trying to say,
- 8:41Speaker 5: We know that it's AI. If you're seventy two years old,
- 8:44Speaker 5: which is like half of the Kentucky primary electorate, sitting
- 8:48Speaker 5: at home watching fifty of those on Fox News, you're
- 8:52Speaker 5: gonna be like, oh, that's weird. I liked Massey, but
- 8:54Speaker 5: I didn't know he was in a throule.
- 8:56Speaker 4: It's caught in a hotel room.
- 8:58Speaker 3: It's disgusting you the way that it has and honestly
- 9:01Speaker 3: does make me like despair.
- 9:03Speaker 1: I didn't used to.
- 9:03Speaker 3: I've never for for until very recently. I was never
- 9:07Speaker 3: a blame the voters person.
- 9:09Speaker 1: Now I'm like, I mean, what do you do? What
- 9:11Speaker 1: do you do now?
- 9:14Speaker 3: To be fair, the idea that this would have happened
- 9:16Speaker 3: in general election is bullshit. As a closed primary, they
- 9:19Speaker 3: spent billions of dollars. They basically you know, this was
- 9:22Speaker 3: the hardest, Sorry millions of dollars, but it's the hardest
- 9:25Speaker 3: of the hardcore kind of Republican base.
- 9:28Speaker 1: They don't speak for all of us. So, like, let's
- 9:29Speaker 1: make that very clear.
- 9:30Speaker 3: If he had made it to the general, he would
- 9:31Speaker 3: have won overwhelming, There's no question about it. But I
- 9:34Speaker 3: mean you do have to say it's like, wow, okay,
- 9:37Speaker 3: I mean, look, the rules are what they are. Maybe
- 9:39Speaker 3: we attack the rules. That's a fool's Errand I've been
- 9:42Speaker 3: around long enough to see every election reform issue crashes.
- 9:45Speaker 1: It's worse, you know, your Actually it's worse.
- 9:50Speaker 3: There was all this like pipe dream about ranked choice
- 9:53Speaker 3: vote is like it's nonsense. We all know it, right,
- 9:55Speaker 3: you know, Oh third party? Yeah, it works out real well,
- 9:59Speaker 3: doesn't it. We're stuck with the system that we have
- 10:01Speaker 3: and with that one, I don't know the really feel
- 10:04Speaker 3: of despair.
- 10:05Speaker 5: It's possible that this murder was done so out in
- 10:08Speaker 5: the open that it's like a George Floyd moment on
- 10:11Speaker 5: the right, Like you guys sat there and watched them
- 10:15Speaker 5: put their knee on Massy for and extinguished the life
- 10:19Speaker 5: it's political life, and just did it in front of everybody.
- 10:24Speaker 4: And maybe maybe maybe it doesn't matter because the what
- 10:28Speaker 4: did George Floyd do?
- 10:28Speaker 5: It brought out a lot of people into the streets,
- 10:30Speaker 5: and we actually didn't even get any police reform, right.
- 10:32Speaker 3: And then you know, to look look at the older voters,
- 10:35Speaker 3: they don't even see it as a scandal. They're like, yeah, good,
- 10:38Speaker 3: you know, he screwed, he screwed over Trump, he worked
- 10:41Speaker 3: with the Democrats or whatever. And yeah, for a lot
- 10:44Speaker 3: of younger Republicans, I mean, maybe you're right, but you know,
- 10:47Speaker 3: let's be honest. You know, most in the social media
- 10:50Speaker 3: age and all this, people will scroll past something else.
- 10:52Speaker 3: Massy is the I mean, you know, him coming out
- 10:56Speaker 3: making the.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Tel Aviv joke and drivingbody crazy.
- 10:58Speaker 4: I loved it.
- 10:58Speaker 3: I loved it, and then it just showed how you know,
- 11:01Speaker 3: this's still that pro Israel bias. And you know Jake
- 11:04Speaker 3: Tapper being like, oh, that's not why Massy like, dude, fun, Yeah,
- 11:09Speaker 3: they spent twenty million dollars for shits and gigs. That's
- 11:12Speaker 3: what they did, Jake barely fairly, I don't know. Yeah,
- 11:15Speaker 3: So it's like that's why I think pairing these two
- 11:17Speaker 3: things together, you know, the Ben Gvier thing, like.
- 11:19Speaker 1: This is what it's about.
- 11:20Speaker 3: People like this is like Miriam Madelson and these other people.
- 11:23Speaker 3: They wake up every day, and they're like, how can
- 11:25Speaker 3: we protect this nation?
- 11:26Speaker 6: Uh?
- 11:26Speaker 1: And then they spend their money.
- 11:28Speaker 3: Here in the United States, which I guess is legal
- 11:31Speaker 3: in the Kentucky fourth District, and enough Fox News boomers
- 11:36Speaker 3: because Trump said so, they just come out and they're like, yeah, okay,
- 11:39Speaker 3: let's do it.
- 11:40Speaker 1: That's the system we have. Is that even democracy.
- 11:42Speaker 5: I guess right now that for those concerned about the
- 11:46Speaker 5: status of the four hundred plus activists, I'm told by
- 11:49Speaker 5: a spokesperson for the flotilla that they're being they're all
- 11:51Speaker 5: being deported today and it's a result really of Ben
- 11:55Speaker 5: Gavier's face plan here that it's it appears the Nanya
- 11:58Speaker 5: who said, like, just get them out of here immediately,
- 12:01Speaker 5: like get them back to their home countries, because previously
- 12:04Speaker 5: they kept them for up to you know, days and weeks,
- 12:08Speaker 5: a kind of abusing them in Israeli prisoners to try
- 12:10Speaker 5: to prevent them.
- 12:12Speaker 4: From from going.
- 12:14Speaker 5: One of the authors, one of the co authors of
- 12:16Speaker 5: the piece at drop Site, Noah Avi shag Shnall, is
- 12:22Speaker 5: being detained and went again for drop Site to cover
- 12:24Speaker 5: this even after they brutalized her last time, and look
- 12:28Speaker 5: forward to you know, kind of hearing well I actually
- 12:31Speaker 5: don't look forward to hearing what was done to her
- 12:35Speaker 5: this time. At least it was shorter this time. One
- 12:37Speaker 5: of the activist there is the sister of the President
- 12:41Speaker 5: of Ireland, Kathy Connolly, friend of the show, as some
- 12:44Speaker 5: may recall, Let's roll the Irish President talking about that.
- 12:48Speaker 6: And I'm very worried about her, and I'm also very
- 12:51Speaker 6: concerned a vote for colleague.
- 12:55Speaker 7: I've been very busy today.
- 12:57Speaker 6: I've been in the Irish Community Center in Hammersmith, which
- 13:01Speaker 6: was wonderful, magnificent display, and then I met with King Charms.
- 13:05Speaker 6: I haven't really had a chance to get details in
- 13:08Speaker 6: relations with my sister and indeed, equally importantly her colleagues centable.
- 13:16Speaker 5: Meanwhile, Tucker Carlson causing problems over Yeah, in Israel, what'd
- 13:22Speaker 5: you think of your man's interview here?
- 13:24Speaker 1: Oh, I mean, I thought it was great.
- 13:26Speaker 3: There was actually even a Haretz of a column that
- 13:29Speaker 3: came out from an opinion columns.
- 13:31Speaker 1: He was like, that was the first time.
- 13:32Speaker 3: Truth about Gaza has been spoken on Israeli television since
- 13:36Speaker 3: October seventh. Somehow it was Tucker apparently that decided to
- 13:39Speaker 3: do it. Here he was with the liberal host over
- 13:43Speaker 3: there on Israeli Channel thirteen, where he basically stumped them
- 13:48Speaker 3: multiple times, saying, it's pretty ironic for you to be
- 13:51Speaker 3: calling Iran and terror regime when you just murdered thousands
- 13:54Speaker 3: of innocent children in Gaza.
- 13:56Speaker 1: Let's take a listen.
- 13:57Speaker 6: Well.
- 13:57Speaker 8: I campaigned for Trump, I spoke with the Republican National
- 13:59Speaker 8: ca Invention. I defended Trump for many years on Fox News.
- 14:03Speaker 8: What happened was the war with Iran, which I don't
- 14:07Speaker 8: believe serves the interests of the United States. I think
- 14:10Speaker 8: it's destructive to the United States and to the world,
- 14:13Speaker 8: but mostly to the United States. I'm an American. That's
- 14:15Speaker 8: what I care about.
- 14:16Speaker 9: Do you generally believe Israel would try to harm you
- 14:19Speaker 9: because of your opinion?
- 14:22Speaker 8: Do I believe Israel would try to harm me?
- 14:25Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 14:25Speaker 8: I mean, of course, I don't know. I hope not.
- 14:28Speaker 8: I don't want to be harmed.
- 14:30Speaker 9: But Israel is the most violent states in the world,
- 14:34Speaker 9: even more than Iran. Are you serious?
- 14:37Speaker 7: No country?
- 14:38Speaker 8: And I say this with sadness, but no country has
- 14:42Speaker 8: boasted more about killing its political opponents than Israel. Of course,
- 14:48Speaker 8: about its assassination programs. The Prime Minister of Israel gave
- 14:51Speaker 8: a Golden Pager to the President of the United States.
- 14:54Speaker 4: I was there.
- 14:55Speaker 8: It is never allowable, period for any person to kill
- 15:01Speaker 8: an innocent You can't kill a child. The child did
- 15:03Speaker 8: nothing wrong. It is always im moral to do that.
- 15:06Speaker 8: You can say, well, I did it for this reason,
- 15:08Speaker 8: but it doesn't make it right. It's always wrong, and
- 15:11Speaker 8: civilized people understand that. That's what civilized people are. That's
- 15:16Speaker 8: the definition of a civilized country a country.
- 15:20Speaker 7: But it seems like right.
- 15:21Speaker 9: But it seems like when you speak about Israel as
- 15:24Speaker 9: the most violent state in the world, you forget to
- 15:29Speaker 9: mention that it is the most attacked state in the
- 15:33Speaker 9: world for so many enemies, like any other country in
- 15:37Speaker 9: the world. So if you don't put this equation together,
- 15:41Speaker 9: it seems like we are doing it for fun, or
- 15:43Speaker 9: that we lost our morality. This is self defense.
- 15:46Speaker 8: Well, Israel has definitely lost its morality, there's no question
- 15:50Speaker 8: about that.
- 15:51Speaker 9: Of the United States with caving to Iran terror regime
- 15:57Speaker 9: that controls not also the hormones passway and the terror
- 16:03Speaker 9: ring that it created in the Middle East, maybe it
- 16:07Speaker 9: would be even worse for any citizens in the world,
- 16:11Speaker 9: not only in Israel, but also in the United States
- 16:13Speaker 9: and This is exactly what Donald Trump said. He said
- 16:16Speaker 9: that the United States would have been in danger. So
- 16:19Speaker 9: you don't believe Donald Trump.
- 16:22Speaker 7: I don't believe Donald Trump.
- 16:23Speaker 8: And I also think, as in Israeli, you should pause
- 16:26Speaker 8: before using the phrase terror regime. Since you live in
- 16:29Speaker 8: a country that just murdered thousands of children in Gaza,
- 16:32Speaker 8: we should all pull.
- 16:32Speaker 4: Back a little bit on the rhetoric.
- 16:35Speaker 8: I'm not defending Iran, but I'm I'm just saying to me,
- 16:40Speaker 8: it's a little it's a little hard to hear that
- 16:42Speaker 8: from I wanted to say. The government of Iran's behavior
- 16:45Speaker 8: is in some cases disgusting to me and immoral, but
- 16:50Speaker 8: the behavior of the Israeli government in Gaza is disgusting
- 16:54Speaker 8: in a moral and of course, Israel's not a democracy
- 16:57Speaker 8: in any sense. There are millions of people who live
- 17:00Speaker 8: under Israeli control who cannot vote.
- 17:02Speaker 3: Who all right, again, like Harad said, you do not
- 17:06Speaker 3: hear that ever period in Israel. In fact, you're more
- 17:10Speaker 3: likely to hear like dancing jigs about why every child
- 17:14Speaker 3: in Kaza should be killed and why it makes them
- 17:16Speaker 3: happy in the yoga class, Yeah, and yoga class, or
- 17:18Speaker 3: something about why doing yoga in a bomb shelter was
- 17:22Speaker 3: the most traumatic experience of their life.
- 17:24Speaker 4: That's more like a free Press essay, right.
- 17:27Speaker 1: It was how I discovered Nirvana in an Israeli bomb shelter.
- 17:32Speaker 3: I'd almost certain to come from the Free Press at
- 17:36Speaker 3: some time. That interview I thought was explosive. I think
- 17:40Speaker 3: for how simply confronting them with like basic facts like
- 17:44Speaker 3: that point about democracy.
- 17:47Speaker 1: They don't even talk about that.
- 17:49Speaker 3: It's like a hidden thing that manifests as a shadow
- 17:53Speaker 3: or a ghost where they call themselves democracy and if
- 17:57Speaker 3: you say it enough times then they try to make
- 17:59Speaker 3: it true. But when you point that out, you're like,
- 18:01Speaker 3: there are millions of people under you control. They're like,
- 18:03Speaker 3: it's like the compute goes wrong. Same with terror, you'll
- 18:07Speaker 3: call him a terror state. So anyway, I loved it.
- 18:11Speaker 3: I think everybody. The whole thing is available. It's forty
- 18:14Speaker 3: six minutes long. If you want to, maybe we'll link
- 18:16Speaker 3: in the description. But he also gave a opening monologue
- 18:21Speaker 3: which is kind of what inspires some of my thoughts
- 18:22Speaker 3: about MASSI when I was talking about earlier today that
- 18:25Speaker 3: I listened to on my way in and I was like, wow,
- 18:28Speaker 3: I mean it just it was profound in its sense
- 18:31Speaker 3: of like betrayal from Donald Trump and kind of analyzes
- 18:34Speaker 3: of how we got here. And look, there are many
- 18:36Speaker 3: criticisms of you know, he helped Trump, he campaigned for Trump,
- 18:40Speaker 3: supported Trump.
- 18:41Speaker 1: I get it, you know I did too.
- 18:42Speaker 3: But the thing is is that being on the other
- 18:45Speaker 3: side of it now, it's like, how do you make
- 18:46Speaker 3: sense of something like this?
- 18:48Speaker 1: And I do think that you know.
- 18:49Speaker 3: That monologue, these types of confrontations on Israeli television are
- 18:54Speaker 3: path to get.
- 18:54Speaker 4: There, at least, I hope, so at least no no noes.
- 18:57Speaker 1: All right, Ryan, you've got you've got a story for
- 19:00Speaker 1: Let's hit it, my man.
- 19:01Speaker 5: I do indeed, all right, Sager, So we got a
- 19:06Speaker 5: wild one for you today. Have you ever accidentally spent
- 19:11Speaker 5: nine million dollars and gone?
- 19:13Speaker 4: Oops?
- 19:14Speaker 5: So the Iowa Democratic primary is on June second, and
- 19:20Speaker 5: it pits Zach Walls as a state senator against Josh Tourek,
- 19:25Speaker 5: who's a state representative. They have pretty much similar politics
- 19:31Speaker 5: one of them, though Josh Truik has said he would
- 19:34Speaker 5: support Chuck Schumer as majority or minority leader, Zach Walls
- 19:38Speaker 5: has said he would not do so, and so Chuck
- 19:41Speaker 5: Schumer has come into Iowa and spent nine million dollars
- 19:46Speaker 5: of Democratic money supporting Josh Turek. He has spent most
- 19:50Speaker 5: of it through this organization called Vote Vets. He's spent
- 19:53Speaker 5: and a bunch of it has also gone through this
- 19:55Speaker 5: organization called Majority Dems. Now Majority Dems you may have
- 19:58Speaker 5: heard of. This is Liz Smith. It's called the Bench.
- 20:01Speaker 7: It's this.
- 20:02Speaker 5: They're trying to become a party within a party. They're
- 20:07Speaker 5: organized by this guy, Seth London, who is what's called
- 20:10Speaker 5: a donor advisor. There are so many rich people in
- 20:13Speaker 5: this country with so much money that we have created
- 20:16Speaker 5: an industry of people that are called donor advisors. These
- 20:19Speaker 5: are people who do exactly that. They advise donors on
- 20:23Speaker 5: how to spend their money. Seth London loves abundance. He's
- 20:27Speaker 5: an abundance guy, and so he has advised a bunch
- 20:30Speaker 5: of donors that if they want to create abundance within
- 20:33Speaker 5: the Democratic Party, this kind of centrist branded thing, the
- 20:37Speaker 5: way they're going to do it is through this organization
- 20:39Speaker 5: with Liz Smith called Majority Dems. And so Majority Dems
- 20:44Speaker 5: they're behind Mallory with mcmorro for instance, they're behind Josh
- 20:48Speaker 5: Trek Now the argument you can't say, well, we're spending
- 20:51Speaker 5: nine million dollars to support the Schumer backing guy because
- 20:54Speaker 5: he backs Schumer, Like this is democratic money that people
- 20:58Speaker 5: are donating so that.
- 20:59Speaker 4: He can take back the Senate.
- 21:01Speaker 5: It wouldn't really fly if you said we're doing this
- 21:03Speaker 5: because he likes Schumer. So what they've said is that
- 21:05Speaker 5: Josh Tourek is more electable. And let's put up this
- 21:10Speaker 5: first element where they explicitly make this argument. So this
- 21:12Speaker 5: is Rohan Patel, actually a former top executive at TESLA
- 21:16Speaker 5: who's now top guy over at Majority Dems.
- 21:20Speaker 4: Rohan Bateel says.
- 21:23Speaker 5: The district Torek holds was held by a Republican who
- 21:26Speaker 5: Josh defeated. He expanded on that performance in the next
- 21:30Speaker 5: election in a Trump plus nine district.
- 21:33Speaker 4: Zach, meanwhile, has represented.
- 21:35Speaker 5: One of the bluest districts in the state and has
- 21:37Speaker 5: never run against a Republican. The electability argument in this
- 21:41Speaker 5: case isn't a close.
- 21:42Speaker 4: Call, all right.
- 21:43Speaker 5: So that is a very explicit claim that Rohan Patel
- 21:47Speaker 5: is making. The district that Torek holds was held by
- 21:50Speaker 5: a Republican who Josh defeated. Rohan Patel was at Tesla.
- 21:55Speaker 5: He's a technocrat. These are the smart people. You and
- 22:00Speaker 5: I Saga are the kind of populist idiots. You know,
- 22:03Speaker 5: we're filled with rage, but we don't really understand how
- 22:06Speaker 5: the system works. These are the quants. These are the
- 22:09Speaker 5: people who have run the numbers, and they're going to
- 22:11Speaker 5: calculate our way into prosperity and abundance. That's the kind
- 22:16Speaker 5: of that's their entire pitch. Now, the problem here is
- 22:21Speaker 5: just actually not true. But Ron isn't the only one
- 22:24Speaker 5: who got this wrong. Put up these next elements. At
- 22:27Speaker 5: least three different major profiles of Tourk said that he
- 22:32Speaker 5: flipped a red district. Here's one correction that The Atlantic
- 22:37Speaker 5: had to run. This article originally misstated the nature of
- 22:40Speaker 5: Toruk's previous electoral victories. Here's a correction in NBC News.
- 22:45Speaker 5: A previous version of this article mischaracterized turks electoral record.
- 22:50Speaker 5: He won a state legislative district that was redrawn to
- 22:53Speaker 5: be more Republican leaning, But he didn't flip a Republican district. Now,
- 22:58Speaker 5: to let you in on how corrections are rich, and
- 23:00Speaker 5: you always try to make the error seem as benign
- 23:02Speaker 5: as possible. These are articles talking about how this guy's
- 23:05Speaker 5: electable organized around a central fact that he flipped a
- 23:09Speaker 5: Republican district, and then they learned later he did not
- 23:12Speaker 5: actually do that. So how to smart people make a
- 23:17Speaker 5: mistake like that? This is where this gets really fun. Okay,
- 23:21Speaker 5: So if a few weeks ago you asked chat GPT
- 23:26Speaker 5: about Josh Torrek's twentieth House district, here's what it used
- 23:30Speaker 5: to tell you. Go ahead and put this one up.
- 23:34Speaker 5: Electoral history a long term pattern, mostly Republican in recent decades.
- 23:38Speaker 5: Ray Sorenson from twenty nineteen to twenty twenty three before that,
- 23:43Speaker 5: Clell Baldler before that, Walt Rodgers, so twelve consecutive years
- 23:48Speaker 5: of Republican control before Torrek. So that's what chat GPT
- 23:51Speaker 5: would tell you. That's pretty impressive. Got to be it man,
- 23:56Speaker 5: guy flipped the seat. Now let's say we do our
- 23:58Speaker 5: own research, which is I think what chachipt did by
- 24:02Speaker 5: going to Wikipedia. So let's pull up Josh Tuk's Wikipedia page.
- 24:06Speaker 4: At the top.
- 24:07Speaker 5: There it says Josh Turk, American politician, wheelchair basketball player.
- 24:11Speaker 4: We can talk about that a bit.
- 24:13Speaker 5: Serving as a member of the House of Representatives from
- 24:15Speaker 5: the twentieth district. If you'll notice in there that it's
- 24:19Speaker 5: the twentieth district, there is purple because I clicked on
- 24:21Speaker 5: that as chachipt and maybe Rohan and maybe The Atlantic
- 24:25Speaker 5: also clicked on.
- 24:26Speaker 4: So all right, let's click on that.
- 24:29Speaker 5: Let's take us to the page of the Iowa's twentieth
- 24:33Speaker 5: House of Representative district. And if you look at the
- 24:35Speaker 5: bottom there, twenty nineteen to twenty twenty three, Ray Sorensen Republican,
- 24:42Speaker 5: twenty twenty three to twenty twenty seven, Josh Tuk.
- 24:44Speaker 4: So there you go.
- 24:45Speaker 5: He flipped the twentieth the old fight in twentieth went
- 24:49Speaker 5: from Republican to Democrat under the banner of Josh Turek,
- 24:55Speaker 5: whose banner we will now ride to victory and flip
- 24:58Speaker 5: Iowa from Republican the Democrat because nobody else can win
- 25:02Speaker 5: in western Iowa like Josh Truck. But let's keep clicking
- 25:06Speaker 5: just for fun. Okay, So if you click on Ray Sorenson,
- 25:10Speaker 5: you'll see that he is anything but defeated. Ray Sorenson
- 25:15Speaker 5: now represents the twenty third district of Iowa. So what
- 25:21Speaker 5: happened they redrew districts in Iowa? Not much actually, but
- 25:27Speaker 5: the census came out, they redrew the districts and they
- 25:29Speaker 5: renumbered them too. So dorik As represents a district that
- 25:38Speaker 5: has been voting for Democrats for decades. It's he represents
- 25:44Speaker 5: Council Bluffs. Okay, this is such a Washington moment. Council
- 25:48Speaker 5: Bluffs is in Western Iowa. Look it up on the map.
- 25:53Speaker 5: It's a suburb of Omaha. It's urban and suburban. It's
- 25:58Speaker 5: not rural Western Iowa.
- 25:59Speaker 4: It is in Western Iowa, but it is really part of.
- 26:04Speaker 5: The Omaha metro region. So Tork represents a Democratic district. Sorensen,
- 26:12Speaker 5: despite the claims that Torek lost him out of office,
- 26:17Speaker 5: never ran against him. Torek and Soorson didn't run against
- 26:20Speaker 5: each other, and Sorensen.
- 26:22Speaker 4: Is still in office.
- 26:25Speaker 5: So I reached out to all the different people involved
- 26:29Speaker 5: here because I was like, wait, so what's going on here.
- 26:33Speaker 4: We've got.
- 26:35Speaker 5: Three news outlets, plus this top numbers guy over at
- 26:40Speaker 5: the super Pac backing Torok all thinking that Tork flipped
- 26:48Speaker 5: a seat. How on earth did that happen? Like, did
- 26:53Speaker 5: you just screw it up?
- 26:56Speaker 4: Did you?
- 26:57Speaker 5: Or did somebody lie to you? So that's what I
- 27:00Speaker 5: was curious about. Does somebody lie to you, like, and
- 27:02Speaker 5: how does how? Why is torok not out here correcting
- 27:04Speaker 5: the record? So got a statement from Liz Smith's organization,
- 27:08Speaker 5: the Bench. They said, Rohan misspoke here and acted on
- 27:13Speaker 5: his own.
- 27:14Speaker 4: No one fed him the stat.
- 27:16Speaker 5: Our decision to support Josh is based on his being
- 27:19Speaker 5: the best candidate in the race and the only one
- 27:22Speaker 5: who can take on Ashley Hinson in the fall.
- 27:24Speaker 4: So Rohan just misspoke. Okay, how do you like? What
- 27:27Speaker 4: do you how did you? How did you do that?
- 27:28Speaker 1: So?
- 27:28Speaker 4: Where'd you get this? Where'd you get this stet?
- 27:31Speaker 1: How?
- 27:31Speaker 5: How did the Atlantic misspeak? How did NBC News misspeak?
- 27:34Speaker 5: How did local NPR which also did it?
- 27:37Speaker 4: How did they? How did they misspeak? Wild?
- 27:41Speaker 5: Uh So, anyway, the entire premise of his electability argument
- 27:45Speaker 5: is based on him flipping the seat, which it turns
- 27:48Speaker 5: out he did not flip. Now, what they will also
- 27:50Speaker 5: say is that council bluffs this. This kind of area
- 27:55Speaker 5: voted for Trump, yet he held on He won by
- 27:58Speaker 5: like six votes, And how district here's not many people voting.
- 28:02Speaker 4: You'd be like, oh, that's cool.
- 28:03Speaker 5: He's a Democrat who won at the local level, while
- 28:07Speaker 5: Trump won at the national level. That means he's probably electable.
- 28:10Speaker 5: That's cool, that would be usually a decent argument. The
- 28:14Speaker 5: problem is that is the pattern that has held in
- 28:17Speaker 5: council Bluffs since LBJ. It's just, you know, how there
- 28:22Speaker 5: are these these regions. They're trending away from that, but
- 28:26Speaker 5: there are these regions that split their ticket, and Council
- 28:28Speaker 5: Bluffs is one of them. Council Bluffs votes for Simps Nixon,
- 28:32Speaker 5: votes for Democrats at the local level, and votes for
- 28:35Speaker 5: Republicans at the presidential presidential level. It's just what they did.
- 28:38Speaker 5: And Turk happened to be wrapped into that. Now it
- 28:43Speaker 5: gets us to the part about his rationale for the candidacy.
- 28:47Speaker 5: So he he was born with spinal biffida and and
- 28:52Speaker 5: that is too, and that is in his in his
- 28:55Speaker 5: early ads, his bioads, and he says that because his
- 28:58Speaker 5: father was a veteran in Vietnam, that exposure to agent
- 29:04Speaker 5: orange ah right produced the spine of maybe true, and
- 29:09Speaker 5: that he's gonna and that as a result, he's going
- 29:10Speaker 5: to fight for veterans. In a lot of the more
- 29:15Speaker 5: recent ads, you that that part of the bio is
- 29:20Speaker 5: is fading and it starts blending with this veteran with
- 29:24Speaker 5: because all because the group that is supporting him is
- 29:27Speaker 5: called vote Vets, it starts to look like he's a vet. Now,
- 29:31Speaker 5: anybody who'svolved it very closely knows that that's not the case.
- 29:35Speaker 5: But the more recent ads starting to blur it just
- 29:37Speaker 5: a little bit. I'm curious for your take on this,
- 29:39Speaker 5: So let's roll one of these ads that has enormous
- 29:42Speaker 5: amounts of spending behind it from vote Vets.
- 29:44Speaker 10: My dog knows that I started early, I listed out
- 29:47Speaker 10: of high school, I rose to the rank of colonel.
- 29:50Speaker 10: I pushed myself born was fined Biffita. Josh Turik has
- 29:54Speaker 10: done that his whole life. Now, Josh is running for
- 29:56Speaker 10: Senate to end the corruption in Washington Congress from trading stock,
- 30:02Speaker 10: hold Donald Trump accountable for abusing his power, and he's
- 30:06Speaker 10: not taking a dime in corporate pack money. Josh Turik's
- 30:09Speaker 10: a fighter, He's who Iowa needs.
- 30:11Speaker 1: Boovets is responsible for the content.
- 30:13Speaker 3: Of this add Yeah, that's right on the line there,
- 30:16Speaker 3: Ryan where I'm like, wait what. It doesn't make it
- 30:19Speaker 3: one hundred percent clear. If I had watched that cold
- 30:23Speaker 3: without knowing a little bit of what you're talking about,
- 30:24Speaker 3: I would have thought, Oh, he must have gotten injured
- 30:26Speaker 3: in combat.
- 30:26Speaker 4: Looks something like that. Let's watch the transition again.
- 30:29Speaker 5: So here's the transition from this colonel who we get
- 30:32Speaker 5: the bio of the colonel. But by the way, he
- 30:34Speaker 5: never mentioned he was deployed, which is kind of interesting.
- 30:37Speaker 5: So we get this bio of the colonel. Why he's
- 30:40Speaker 5: not running. Josh is running. We get the bio of
- 30:42Speaker 5: the colonel. So let's just do the transition again. Play
- 30:44Speaker 5: that a little one more time.
- 30:45Speaker 10: I listed out of high school, I rose to the
- 30:48Speaker 10: rank of colonel. I pushed myself born was finan Biffita.
- 30:52Speaker 10: Josh Turik has done that his whole life. Now, Josh
- 30:55Speaker 10: is running for Senate to end the corruption in Washington.
- 30:58Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a little like guhah yeah.
- 31:01Speaker 5: If you're just watching it like at home, you kind
- 31:04Speaker 5: of come away with yeah. And then at the end
- 31:06Speaker 5: he says he doesn't take corporate pack money in an
- 31:09Speaker 5: ad paid for by vote Vets, a super pac funded
- 31:11Speaker 5: by Chuck Schumer and his major major donors. We can
- 31:15Speaker 5: put up the next element. This was the one that
- 31:17Speaker 5: somebody flagged for me too. Josh Turk has spent his
- 31:21Speaker 5: life in the toughest battles.
- 31:23Speaker 1: I see.
- 31:24Speaker 5: Now, he's been very clear that he's had spinal bifiita
- 31:28Speaker 5: since he was a child. He's never said he was
- 31:30Speaker 5: a veteran. But these vote Vets ads like, that's a
- 31:35Speaker 5: little like that's on the line for.
- 31:36Speaker 4: That, that's push.
- 31:37Speaker 5: And the reason this could be risky is if you
- 31:42Speaker 5: pull Iowa voters and you find that like a significant
- 31:45Speaker 5: chunk believe that he's a veteran, Republicans then can come
- 31:51Speaker 5: at him and say you thought.
- 31:53Speaker 4: That he was a veteran. He's not.
- 31:54Speaker 5: Now he never said he was. But look at these ads.
- 31:57Speaker 5: You you believed it, you were fooled. And so it
- 32:03Speaker 5: creeps into this like accessory to stolen valor type situation
- 32:06Speaker 5: that Republicans could potentially hammer him right, And I.
- 32:10Speaker 3: Just think zooming out your point is they use an
- 32:12Speaker 3: AI error. They spent nine million bucks and people said
- 32:16Speaker 3: fight they basically had an AI error. They didn't track
- 32:20Speaker 3: it all that closely. And people in DC and all
- 32:22Speaker 3: these other donor advisors.
- 32:23Speaker 5: Are like, oh, let's just grow he's in western Iowa,
- 32:26Speaker 5: so actually he's from Omaha. A vote Vets comment, they say, quote,
- 32:32Speaker 5: we are proud to support Josh Turek because he knows
- 32:35Speaker 5: firsthand the generational costs of war. He was born with
- 32:38Speaker 5: spina bifida due to his dad's military service, and had
- 32:41Speaker 5: twenty one surgeries before age twelve, which we've said in
- 32:43Speaker 5: our advertising, true, It's true. Josh will be a strong
- 32:46Speaker 5: advocate for veterans and military families, which Congress needs to
- 32:50Speaker 5: fight back against the Trump administrations devastating cuts to VA.
- 32:54Speaker 4: He has talked a lot about the VA.
- 32:55Speaker 5: Absolutely, Josh has been fighting his whole life, and with
- 32:58Speaker 5: Donald Trump and the White House, joh will be exactly
- 33:01Speaker 5: the kind of senator Iowa needs. So anyway, so that's
- 33:05Speaker 5: that's that's their take. Let's finish with the guy that
- 33:08Speaker 5: they're going against. So Zach Walls. He became this viral
- 33:14Speaker 5: sensation in like twenty eleven. You might remember this when
- 33:17Speaker 5: he stood up in the Iowa legislature and talked about
- 33:19Speaker 5: his two moms.
- 33:20Speaker 4: Oh that guy is that guy? He's back?
- 33:22Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 33:23Speaker 5: I remember him now here we are fifteen twenty years
- 33:25Speaker 5: old when that Yeah he was he was a child.
- 33:28Speaker 3: So who were the same age? That's why I remember this.
- 33:30Speaker 3: Eve and I were the same age.
- 33:31Speaker 5: Yeah, it was a great speech. Yeah, it was moving
- 33:34Speaker 5: so anyway. So here here's Zach Walls, now state senator,
- 33:38Speaker 5: talking about Hinson, who's going to be the Republican opponent.
- 33:42Speaker 11: This one company from Utah bought fifteen communities across the state,
- 33:45Speaker 11: three of them in my senate district, two in Johnson County,
- 33:48Speaker 11: and then one in Cedar County, the more real part
- 33:50Speaker 11: of my district. And as their state senator, I took
- 33:53Speaker 11: it upon myself to go knockdoors in my communities to
- 33:56Speaker 11: hear from my constituents by people about what was going on.
- 33:58Speaker 11: And the stories I heard were harper. I met a
- 34:00Speaker 11: woman named Candy Again. He was a widow and her
- 34:03Speaker 11: late husband had saved up bought her this beautiful double
- 34:06Speaker 11: wide trailer, and she had a place to call her home,
- 34:09Speaker 11: and she was worried about her own home. She was
- 34:13Speaker 11: terrified about what happened to her neighbors. And I I
- 34:17Speaker 11: was so angry about what I was hearing that I
- 34:20Speaker 11: was able to take these stories and I went to
- 34:21Speaker 11: my Republican colleagues. We brought together a bipartisan group. We
- 34:25Speaker 11: hammered out a bill that we could all support, and
- 34:27Speaker 11: as a freshman, I got that belt with the help
- 34:29Speaker 11: of people like Candy and her neighbors who came to
- 34:31Speaker 11: the state House to fight for that bill. We got
- 34:33Speaker 11: it through the Senate forty eight to zero. Everyone assumed
- 34:37Speaker 11: this was a done deal. And then two days later
- 34:40Speaker 11: he had a text message asking me to come over
- 34:42Speaker 11: to the to the House side for a closed door
- 34:44Speaker 11: meeting about my bill. And I remember it like it
- 34:46Speaker 11: was yesterday.
- 34:47Speaker 4: Walking in.
- 34:48Speaker 11: First person I see is the lobbyist representing these big companies,
- 34:53Speaker 11: and the second person I see is a state representative
- 34:55Speaker 11: was holding my bill shaking her head. That state representative
- 34:59Speaker 11: is now a member of Congress, and she used my
- 35:01Speaker 11: Republican opponent in November, Ashley Henson, and I was in
- 35:05Speaker 11: the room and I watched as Ashley Hinson killed my
- 35:08Speaker 11: bipartisan bill is a favor to that lobbyist. And after
- 35:13Speaker 11: this was over, I looked up how much money this
- 35:16Speaker 11: lobbyist had bundled for her reelection campaign. You want to
- 35:19Speaker 11: guess how much it was? M fifty grand one dollars
- 35:24Speaker 11: cheap did.
- 35:25Speaker 4: And you will.
- 35:26Speaker 11: You will never guess, though, who was some of her
- 35:29Speaker 11: biggest supporters in her campaign for the US House, or
- 35:31Speaker 11: who did a fundraising event for her in the Senate
- 35:33Speaker 11: campaign is a few months ago. So when we talk
- 35:36Speaker 11: about this connection between you know, the rigged economy and
- 35:39Speaker 11: the corruption of our politics, I saw that firsthand as
- 35:42Speaker 11: a freshman legislator. And look, I will tell you this.
- 35:45Speaker 11: I was excited to run against Joani Ernst, but when
- 35:49Speaker 11: I found out I was going to be running against
- 35:50Speaker 11: Ashley Hinson, I jumped out of bed the next morning.
- 35:54Speaker 5: All right, so he's probably gonna lose after nine million dollars.
- 35:57Speaker 5: I got dumped on his head. But it's what's what's
- 35:59Speaker 5: the ironic is that the race is not over. Zach
- 36:02Speaker 5: Walls is actually still in it. If it was really
- 36:04Speaker 5: true that Trek was the most electable candidate by miles,
- 36:10Speaker 5: nine million dollars spent by Washington should put him way
- 36:14Speaker 5: over the top, like it should not still be close.
- 36:16Speaker 5: Like that kind of undermines your own case. Anyway, we'll
- 36:20Speaker 5: be tracking this.
- 36:21Speaker 1: See all right, So there we go.
- 36:22Speaker 3: You had a candidate who might have technically been able
- 36:24Speaker 3: to win and all that, and instead they backed some
- 36:26Speaker 3: guy because of an ai are You can't make it.
- 36:29Speaker 1: Maybe why we'll see this is why we love Ryan.
- 36:31Speaker 1: Only he could uncover something like this.
- 36:33Speaker 3: Okay, we have a pre recorded interview here, our great
- 36:38Speaker 3: Griffin Davis actually sat down with Tom styr the gubernatorial candidate.
- 36:42Speaker 3: He pressed him on all kinds of questions. So without
- 36:45Speaker 3: further ado, and by the way, let me just mention again,
- 36:47Speaker 3: his suit looks fantastic in this interview. Meanwhile, Tom Styer
- 36:51Speaker 3: is not wearing a suit, and you will see why
- 36:52Speaker 3: that matters as the power dynamic shift towards Griffin as
- 36:56Speaker 3: he forcefully pushes him on all the issues.
- 36:59Speaker 4: Let's take a list.
- 37:02Speaker 12: Hello, breaking points Griffin here and we're here with California
- 37:05Speaker 12: governor candidate Tom Steyer. Tom, how's it going.
- 37:09Speaker 13: I would say I'm having a ball. Yeah, you would
- 37:11Speaker 13: say I am having a ball. Okay, And let me
- 37:14Speaker 13: say this. People always ask me, you know, is it
- 37:17Speaker 13: really hard, And I'm like, it's really fun. I actually
- 37:21Speaker 13: feel like this is such a privilege and such a
- 37:23Speaker 13: joy to get to go around and meet Californians. I
- 37:25Speaker 13: am going to go out today and talk to, you know,
- 37:26Speaker 13: a few hundred Californians and I get to go around
- 37:29Speaker 13: every single day and meet people and learn stuff. And
- 37:32Speaker 13: Californians are great. This state is great.
- 37:33Speaker 4: It's fun.
- 37:35Speaker 13: No one should be feeling sorry for me.
- 37:37Speaker 7: Let's have some fun. I only got you for a
- 37:38Speaker 7: few minutes. I got a lot to ask. So I
- 37:40Speaker 7: talk to people. They say they'll never trust a billionaire.
- 37:42Speaker 13: What do you say to them, Well, I can understand
- 37:45Speaker 13: why people are skeptical of buildingaires, that's for sure, because
- 37:48Speaker 13: they see so many of them seem like such selfish people,
- 37:52Speaker 13: so self absorbed, so entitled, so insensitive. But let me
- 37:56Speaker 13: say this. I didn't inherit a penny. I started a business,
- 37:59Speaker 13: ran it for twenty seven years, walked away from billions
- 38:02Speaker 13: of dollars because I wanted to give back to the
- 38:04Speaker 13: state of California. And my wife and I have said,
- 38:06Speaker 13: we're gonna give our money away while we're alive to
- 38:09Speaker 13: good causes.
- 38:10Speaker 7: And you're for to tax the billionaire.
- 38:12Speaker 13: I'm the one. I'm the only person who's for taxing
- 38:14Speaker 13: the billionaires in the state of California. Is the one
- 38:16Speaker 13: billionaire on the ballot.
- 38:17Speaker 12: Sure, so you're for taxing the billionaires because you know,
- 38:21Speaker 12: I think people have a problem with billionaires because they
- 38:23Speaker 12: feel like that wealth should be redistributed elsewhere, but also
- 38:26Speaker 12: because people feel like billionaires are a threat to our democracy.
- 38:30Speaker 12: Now some of your opponents have accused you of paying
- 38:33Speaker 12: for influencer campaigns, paying influencers to promote your campaign.
- 38:37Speaker 7: Are you paying influencers? And you have.
- 38:39Speaker 13: Never paid for an endorsement. We pay people for their time.
- 38:44Speaker 13: They're small business people. They can put up whatever they want.
- 38:48Speaker 7: But we has been negative.
- 38:50Speaker 13: I don't read it, I don't follow it exactly. Look,
- 38:53Speaker 13: and it could be and that's not the problem. This
- 38:55Speaker 13: is we do this, and so does everybody else. It's
- 38:59Speaker 13: just we do it openly and we report everything. And
- 39:02Speaker 13: so the Besera campaign, which has been running from answering
- 39:06Speaker 13: questions from people like you, who've been running not to
- 39:09Speaker 13: talk to reporters, not to answer questions from Californians, is saying, oh,
- 39:13Speaker 13: you know, they're trying to change the subject. The topic
- 39:16Speaker 13: in California is the people of California and why it's
- 39:20Speaker 13: not working for the people of California when this state
- 39:23Speaker 13: as a whole is killing it. That is the question,
- 39:26Speaker 13: and they're scared to talk about that.
- 39:28Speaker 12: So you don't think if someone accepts the money from
- 39:30Speaker 12: the campaign that they would pull questions, do softball interviews.
- 39:34Speaker 12: Obviously they're going to do positive content about you.
- 39:37Speaker 13: Look, they can do whatever they want, but we're not
- 39:39Speaker 13: paying anyone for endorsements or outcomes. People actually are supporting
- 39:43Speaker 13: our campaign. I don't know how closely you've looked at
- 39:45Speaker 13: the campaign. People are supporting our campaign because they like
- 39:47Speaker 13: our campaign. I mean this race, Griffin. Everyone talks about
- 39:51Speaker 13: how complicated this race is. This race is not complicated.
- 39:54Speaker 13: There are three people in this race. There's a MAGA Republican,
- 39:57Speaker 13: Steve Hilton. Steve Hilton, and he's British, which is rough. Well,
- 40:00Speaker 13: he's originally Hungarian. Just seeing it, Oh, okay, worse, maybe
- 40:03Speaker 13: I'm Hungarians at Britain to California.
- 40:07Speaker 7: Okay.
- 40:08Speaker 13: There is a corporate Democrat who's taking money from the
- 40:12Speaker 13: health indist trans Javioba Sara. It's taking money from the
- 40:15Speaker 13: health insurance. He's taking money from Chevron. He's taking money
- 40:19Speaker 13: from the other oil drillers. He's taking money from the
- 40:21Speaker 13: strongest lobby against single payer healthcare. He is the corporate
- 40:26Speaker 13: who's taking their money and clearly feels like the corporate
- 40:29Speaker 13: special interest deserve to run this date. And he said,
- 40:33Speaker 13: you know, Chevron's not bad, guys. We need Chevron. We
- 40:35Speaker 13: should drill more. And he doesn't have an environmental policy
- 40:38Speaker 13: for me. That's, you know, end of story. But the
- 40:41Speaker 13: other thing, there's one progressive Democrat in this race who's
- 40:44Speaker 13: standing up to the corporate interest, and the corporate interests
- 40:47Speaker 13: are spending tens of millions of dollars a record amount
- 40:50Speaker 13: in any campaign against me, because they know that I
- 40:54Speaker 13: will stand up for working people and I will go
- 40:56Speaker 13: after the corporations that are driving up the costs that
- 40:58Speaker 13: make him possible for working people live here.
- 41:01Speaker 12: But do you think it's SU's a dangerous precedent. You know,
- 41:02Speaker 12: we got union workers outside. They obviously view you as
- 41:04Speaker 12: a good billionaire. But couldn't there be a bad billionaire
- 41:07Speaker 12: that comes along and floods the race with influencers that
- 41:10Speaker 12: are getting money from the campaign. Isn't that a dangerous president? Well,
- 41:13Speaker 12: let me put it this way.
- 41:13Speaker 13: There have been billionaires who've running California before, and they've
- 41:16Speaker 13: always lost. And the difference is I've I didn't just
- 41:19Speaker 13: decide to do this. I've been doing this full time
- 41:22Speaker 13: for fourteen years. I walked away from my business fourteen
- 41:24Speaker 13: years ago. You can look at my record and see
- 41:28Speaker 13: I've taken on three times at the ballot powerful corporate
- 41:31Speaker 13: interest and beaten them. I've registered one point two million
- 41:35Speaker 13: young Californians. My wife and I have started a nonprofit
- 41:39Speaker 13: community bank to lend money to the people that the
- 41:43Speaker 13: commercial banks won't lend to because they're redlining. We've worked
- 41:47Speaker 13: really hard to get a coalition to push free breakfast
- 41:52Speaker 13: and free lunch for every school kid in California. We've
- 41:56Speaker 13: had twenty people working for eleven years in Sacramento every
- 42:00Speaker 13: progressive legislation in this state. So I didn't just fall
- 42:03Speaker 13: off the turnip Trump right.
- 42:05Speaker 7: Yeah, so it could be.
- 42:05Speaker 12: It could be a bad billionaire comes along where you
- 42:07Speaker 12: said bad billionaires have run in the past and lost,
- 42:09Speaker 12: But you don't think it's a dangerous precedent to flood influence.
- 42:12Speaker 13: Look, let me say this. Do I think that we
- 42:15Speaker 13: need campaign financial firm? Of course I do. The only
- 42:18Speaker 13: person who can who is standing up to these corporate
- 42:20Speaker 13: special interests is me.
- 42:21Speaker 7: Should there be a cap?
- 42:22Speaker 13: I Look, it's a much more complicated question than just
- 42:25Speaker 13: one thing that you know, but it's clear. Really The
- 42:29Speaker 13: question here is I'm the only billionaire in the ballot,
- 42:31Speaker 13: but I'm not the only billionaire in this race. Billionaires
- 42:34Speaker 13: are giving money right now to all the other candidates.
- 42:39Speaker 13: Billionaires are putting money in independent expenditures to fight me.
- 42:43Speaker 13: I'm the one person who's pushing to tax billionaires like
- 42:46Speaker 13: me more, the only person. No one else is standing
- 42:49Speaker 13: up for that in this race, including Steve Filton and
- 42:51Speaker 13: including Hobbyerbasar.
- 42:52Speaker 12: Let's talk more about California. A lot of people feel
- 42:54Speaker 12: like California is failing, and they some people blame it
- 42:58Speaker 12: on the over representation of Democrats. Some people tell me
- 43:01Speaker 12: they feel like we need a Republican to counteract and
- 43:05Speaker 12: bring balance back to the state.
- 43:07Speaker 7: Why do you think California's failing?
- 43:09Speaker 13: Well, let me start by talking about the Republicans. Let
- 43:11Speaker 13: me just put that one to rest. Have you heard
- 43:13Speaker 13: any of the debates.
- 43:13Speaker 7: Oh, I've lost them all.
- 43:15Speaker 13: Okay, let me say Steve Hilton is ridiculous. He's ridiculous.
- 43:18Speaker 13: I mean, there is the fact that he's supporting Trump
- 43:21Speaker 13: kicking millions of people off medical There is the fact
- 43:24Speaker 13: that he's supporting ice raids. There is the fact that
- 43:27Speaker 13: he believes the war in Iran is good and that
- 43:29Speaker 13: it hasn't caused gasoline prices to go up a buck
- 43:32Speaker 13: and a half. There is the fact that he would
- 43:34Speaker 13: extradite California doctors to Louisiana to be prosecuted criminally under
- 43:40Speaker 13: Louisiana law for performing an abortion in California. Look, there
- 43:44Speaker 13: is no way that guy has a idea in his
- 43:47Speaker 13: head that makes sense. He is a Maga Republican and
- 43:51Speaker 13: the Maga Republicans are trying to destroy this country. I
- 43:53Speaker 13: don't want him destroying our state, gotcha. So that is
- 43:57Speaker 13: very clear the question in this mind. But there is
- 43:59Speaker 13: a real question here, yeah, about balance. The corporate the
- 44:03Speaker 13: corporate special interests own this state. The oil companies clearly
- 44:08Speaker 13: owned DC and they're trying to buy California and stop
- 44:12Speaker 13: cap and invest. I don't know if you've they're trying
- 44:15Speaker 13: to stop that. They are absolutely ripping us at the pump.
- 44:20Speaker 13: You know, they their custom go up when the Iran
- 44:22Speaker 13: war starts. Nothing happens for them except their ability to
- 44:25Speaker 13: charge more. And the head of the Western States Petroleum Association,
- 44:29Speaker 13: which is the lobbying group for OYL, said it's their
- 44:31Speaker 13: fiduciary duty to extract every penny at the pump from
- 44:34Speaker 13: Californians as a result of the ranmore do I trust
- 44:37Speaker 13: those guys?
- 44:37Speaker 12: Why would you let's talk about the train in nowhere.
- 44:40Speaker 12: This is a big topic. Train was supposed to go
- 44:42Speaker 12: from La San Francisco. They spent fifteen billion dollars, haven't
- 44:46Speaker 12: laid a single bit of track. Why did that fail?
- 44:49Speaker 12: And like, what would you do to change that?
- 44:51Speaker 13: Well, it was more complicated than that in terms of failure.
- 44:54Speaker 13: They started. They didn't build a train from San Francisco
- 44:57Speaker 13: to La They built a train from Baker's Field to Merceille. Yes, right,
- 45:02Speaker 13: and so there's no ridership there. But they did that
- 45:05Speaker 13: because the federal government said they'd give them four billion
- 45:09Speaker 13: dollars if they put the train there, so they crazily
- 45:12Speaker 13: decided to do it. Look, there's something going on in
- 45:15Speaker 13: this state which is true, which is we're not getting
- 45:18Speaker 13: results in the real world. I mean, we're killing it
- 45:20Speaker 13: in cyber space. When you say California is not succeeding,
- 45:22Speaker 13: let's be clear, California is half the growth in the
- 45:25Speaker 13: United States of America.
- 45:26Speaker 1: That's true.
- 45:26Speaker 13: California is growing faster than any other state by a lot.
- 45:30Speaker 13: The issue is we also have the highest poverty rate
- 45:33Speaker 13: in the country. We also have a school system that's
- 45:37Speaker 13: delivering somewhere in the thirties out of fifty states. We
- 45:40Speaker 13: do have a place where Californian working people cannot afford
- 45:44Speaker 13: to live between really high housing costs, really high health
- 45:47Speaker 13: care costs, electricity costs that are twice the national average.
- 45:52Speaker 13: Everybody's getting ruined at the pump, but especially Californiaans, and
- 45:55Speaker 13: food costs. So there is a real issue here about
- 45:58Speaker 13: building things physically in this state, that's for sure.
- 46:01Speaker 12: So recently, about two months ago, you went on the
- 46:03Speaker 12: Hassan Piker broadcast and he asked you if you believe
- 46:08Speaker 12: that Israel was committing a genocide, and you said you
- 46:10Speaker 12: didn't really know what that meant.
- 46:11Speaker 7: It's been about two months. Have you looked it up?
- 46:14Speaker 13: Look, what I think is clear about this is the
- 46:17Speaker 13: net in Yahoo regime is committing war crimes. America used
- 46:22Speaker 13: to be supporting them with money and armaments. We're now
- 46:27Speaker 13: they're open partners in Iran. It's clearly a mistake. Do
- 46:31Speaker 13: I think am I again? You know? Do I oppose APEC? Look,
- 46:35Speaker 13: I think they're dark money organization. I don't think they
- 46:37Speaker 13: should they have a place in American politics. Do I
- 46:41Speaker 13: understand that there's something really wrong going on here and
- 46:44Speaker 13: that we're now open partners in it?
- 46:46Speaker 4: Yes?
- 46:46Speaker 13: I think I got that one.
- 46:47Speaker 7: Why don't you think it's a genocide?
- 46:48Speaker 12: You know, over eighty percent of Democrats and over fifty
- 46:50Speaker 12: percent of Independence say it's a genocide.
- 46:52Speaker 7: Why are you in the minority on that.
- 46:54Speaker 13: I don't think what I've said is I'm calling it
- 46:57Speaker 13: war crimes. I want it. I still and some people
- 47:00Speaker 13: people get mad at me when I say this, but
- 47:01Speaker 13: it's true. I don't understand how we possibly solve this
- 47:04Speaker 13: without pushing for a two state solution. The net Yahoo
- 47:06Speaker 13: regime has been pushing to end the possibility of a
- 47:10Speaker 13: two state solution for as long as I can remember,
- 47:13Speaker 13: for as long as they've been in Yeah, I don't
- 47:15Speaker 13: think that there's any way to support them. I think
- 47:18Speaker 13: what they're doing is not just morally reprehensive.
- 47:22Speaker 4: I believe it's a crime.
- 47:23Speaker 12: Yeah, but not if it's just you recognize the Armenian genocide,
- 47:26Speaker 12: Why don't you recognize this one?
- 47:27Speaker 13: I will say this. I have asked people who are
- 47:30Speaker 13: expert international experts, Yeah, and they're very mixed on this.
- 47:34Speaker 12: Well, that's actually it's true. I've got Human Rights Watch
- 47:37Speaker 12: Beth Cellem. We had an international Genocide scholars group over
- 47:40Speaker 12: five hundred that overwhelmingly called it a genocide. And the
- 47:43Speaker 12: reason I'm pushing on this is because I think the
- 47:45Speaker 12: majority of Democrats really feel like this.
- 47:47Speaker 7: Is a moral litmus test. And it is.
- 47:49Speaker 13: But it is a moral litmus test, and I'm completely
- 47:53Speaker 13: on the side of condemning what the net Nahu regime
- 47:56Speaker 13: is doing. I'm trying to preserve the possibility of still,
- 47:59Speaker 13: how having a two state solution where everybody's dignity, everybody's
- 48:04Speaker 13: self determination is continued, and that's what I think. That's
- 48:08Speaker 13: the only solution I see to this.
- 48:09Speaker 12: So if I ask like a suburban mom and like Alabama,
- 48:13Speaker 12: you know, not a politician, not as well read into
- 48:16Speaker 12: any of this stuff as you and I are, but
- 48:18Speaker 12: neither of us are genocide experts. I think the majority
- 48:20Speaker 12: of experts have called it a genocide. That Alabama suburban mom,
- 48:24Speaker 12: she's going to call it a genocide. And Alabama suburban mom, yeah,
- 48:28Speaker 12: I think. I think there's moms all over this country
- 48:30Speaker 12: that saw what happened.
- 48:32Speaker 13: And I'm saying, look and up on the word. What
- 48:36Speaker 13: I'm hung up on is this is clearly morally wrong.
- 48:39Speaker 13: This is clearly a crime against humanity.
- 48:43Speaker 12: Yes, absolutely, Okay, Spencer Pratt is gaining traction here in La.
- 48:49Speaker 12: What are your thoughts on his candidacy.
- 48:51Speaker 13: I honestly have not focused on Spencer Pratt, but it
- 48:54Speaker 13: sounds to me from what other people tell me, that
- 48:57Speaker 13: he's a super right wing guy who's using a lot
- 49:01Speaker 13: of anger to try and stir people up. And I'm
- 49:04Speaker 13: absolutely opposed to that. Every place that comes out narcissity.
- 49:06Speaker 12: Do you think he I mean, for debatable on how
- 49:09Speaker 12: much traction, but he's getting some traction because I do
- 49:11Speaker 12: think there's this feeling that La is failing in some way.
- 49:14Speaker 12: The Hollywood industry is failing, there is a homeless crisis.
- 49:18Speaker 12: People do feel like the city is failing.
- 49:20Speaker 13: Let me say this, I think across California people don't
- 49:22Speaker 13: think government works. I think young people especially think they're
- 49:26Speaker 13: being ripped off. They don't have never seen government help
- 49:30Speaker 13: them make their life be better. That is an absolutely
- 49:34Speaker 13: critical point, and it's true, there's no question about that
- 49:36Speaker 13: that people feel like and I think you were talking
- 49:39Speaker 13: about the train to nowhere. People know that people think
- 49:44Speaker 13: they'll never be able to afford a house in California.
- 49:46Speaker 13: The first the average first time home buyer's age has
- 49:50Speaker 13: gone from twenty eight to forty two. Young people think
- 49:53Speaker 13: they'll never buy us. They don't think this state can
- 49:55Speaker 13: work for them.
- 49:56Speaker 7: You know, why can't we build here?
- 49:57Speaker 12: You know, I think people think there's this battle between
- 49:59Speaker 12: the state government and local city governments.
- 50:01Speaker 7: How are you going to force building?
- 50:03Speaker 13: So let me say this, As I know you've spent
- 50:05Speaker 13: lots of time on my website, I don't have to
- 50:07Speaker 13: go through every detail. One of the things that I'm
- 50:09Speaker 13: doing really differently about housing is I'm saying, on day one,
- 50:13Speaker 13: I will call a special election to close a corporate
- 50:17Speaker 13: tax loophole that's worth twenty billion dollars, and that money
- 50:19Speaker 13: will go to the states, to the counties and the cities.
- 50:23Speaker 13: And the reason that's important is there is a tussle
- 50:25Speaker 13: between the state and the cities and the counties because
- 50:28Speaker 13: the state wants there to be building of houses, but
- 50:30Speaker 13: the cities and counties are responsible for the people who
- 50:33Speaker 13: live in those houses, and they don't have the money
- 50:35Speaker 13: for it, and therefore, as a result of old tax rules,
- 50:39Speaker 13: they push back because they don't want to get stuck
- 50:42Speaker 13: in an unfinded mandate, or they put in an upfront
- 50:45Speaker 13: fee that's up to twenty percent of the cost of
- 50:47Speaker 13: the house. What I'm saying, is Okay, here's twenty billion
- 50:50Speaker 13: dollars around this state. Now you can afford to have housing.
- 50:54Speaker 13: And when I've talked to mayors about this, they've said,
- 50:56Speaker 13: if you really do that.
- 50:57Speaker 12: I'm in okay, final questions. I know you got to
- 50:59Speaker 12: go Hollywood, but we feel like Hollywood's dying out here.
- 51:02Speaker 12: What are you going to do to save Hollywood?
- 51:03Speaker 13: So let me say this, I'm a super competitive person.
- 51:07Speaker 13: I am on team California. Hollywood is by far the
- 51:10Speaker 13: greatest collection of film and entertainment talent. Not the stars,
- 51:14Speaker 13: but you know, right down in all the jobs in
- 51:17Speaker 13: the world, people are trying to buy our business, buy
- 51:20Speaker 13: the business that basically Los Angeles invented. We can't let
- 51:23Speaker 13: that happen. So there's I have a long list of
- 51:26Speaker 13: things we need to do, but it starts with tax credit.
- 51:29Speaker 12: People shooting Canada because it's cheaper, or they shoot overseas
- 51:31Speaker 12: because it's cheaper.
- 51:33Speaker 7: How can you fix that? Part of its tax credits,
- 51:35Speaker 7: tax credits.
- 51:36Speaker 13: Part of it is looking at the regulations and trying
- 51:38Speaker 13: to cut take that away. But in the long run,
- 51:41Speaker 13: it's driving down costs, which is my whole campaign is
- 51:43Speaker 13: about driving down costs for working people, housing costs, healthcare costs.
- 51:48Speaker 13: But in the short run, I don't want to lose this.
- 51:50Speaker 13: Every tax credit brings back a dollar and fourteen cents
- 51:53Speaker 13: to the state of California. We can't lose this because
- 51:56Speaker 13: people buy our business that is not okay. And we
- 51:59Speaker 13: can't lose this because we've been so the perfect is
- 52:02Speaker 13: the enemy of the good. We have so many expensive
- 52:05Speaker 13: rules that small productions can't do it. I want to
- 52:07Speaker 13: support that whole ecosystem as strongly as possible. It's very
- 52:10Speaker 13: hard to rebuild an ecosystem, so I don't want to
- 52:13Speaker 13: lose it in the first place. Tom thank you for
- 52:15Speaker 13: time deal Griffin.
- 52:17Speaker 3: Thank you guys so much for watching. We appreciate it.
- 52:19Speaker 3: Friday show for everybody Tomorrow, great bro show. Always good
- 52:21Speaker 3: to see you, my friends, and we'll see you all
