- 0:08Speaker 1: Do do? Another one bites the dust do do? And
- 0:15Speaker 1: another one gone and another one gone. Yes, there are
- 0:18Speaker 1: now two teams. So the five Birds have joined the
- 0:21Speaker 1: Giants as being completely unable to join the top four
- 0:27Speaker 1: the finals. I'm just distracted by God, he's got a
- 0:29Speaker 1: hand over her mouth. Now maybe she's gesturing at me
- 0:32Speaker 1: to stop seeing. I will do that. You're with No
- 0:35Speaker 1: Dribble strap in. Hello and welcome to No Dribble, the
- 0:48Speaker 1: podcast where we talk about netbul. We talk about so
- 0:51Speaker 1: much more. I've already told you who our surprise guest is,
- 0:53Speaker 1: but let's go through the formalities. Anyway. I'm Caroline's Mendel.
- 1:00Speaker 2: And I was ready.
- 1:02Speaker 3: I thought she was preferring to me hitting fifty.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Oh, just ring in a completely different direction. Ah, because
- 1:15Speaker 2: of Nepple.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Who would have thought? Who would have thought it would
- 1:19Speaker 1: be about netble? But we did, you know? I mean,
- 1:21Speaker 1: round round ten was the Delta Goudrom. Round Round eleven
- 1:24Speaker 1: is obviously the Catherine Cox round because it was your
- 1:27Speaker 1: birthday yesterday, Happy birthday.
- 1:29Speaker 3: Yes today? And you know what's funny about that song?
- 1:32Speaker 3: So I just did a post for the GRAM and
- 1:34Speaker 3: I was trying to choose a song and I thought
- 1:36Speaker 3: I would do another one Byeza, dust but I didn't.
- 1:39Speaker 2: You went.
- 1:39Speaker 1: You went with Taylor Swift. Did you ready for it?
- 1:43Speaker 3: But no, I was thinking of putting that on there,
- 1:45Speaker 3: so that's funny. But yeah, it was a fabulous day.
- 1:49Speaker 3: Not gonna lie a little dusty this morning, Dusty. Very
- 1:53Speaker 3: hard to do a podcast the day after that, Yeah
- 1:56Speaker 3: we did. We did wrap up about seven and a
- 1:58Speaker 3: half hours after we started lunch, so it was a
- 2:01Speaker 3: good long day.
- 2:03Speaker 2: Still by about six pm and in bed by eight.
- 2:06Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, it was great. I was in bed just
- 2:08Speaker 3: before nine, actually after I had my advil and all
- 2:10Speaker 3: those sorts of things that I needed to work.
- 2:12Speaker 1: No, no, yes, So we were there until eight thirty
- 2:15Speaker 1: I think. And then yeah, you did. You did very well,
- 2:18Speaker 1: and people, as was appropriate, people came from all around
- 2:22Speaker 1: to celebrate you. And I think that's bloody lovely.
- 2:25Speaker 3: And I need to say a big thank you to
- 2:27Speaker 3: you too, because whilst the really genuine nice tributes were there,
- 2:34Speaker 3: they made me freaking uncomfortable. I'm far I know, I
- 2:40Speaker 3: don't like it at all. I'm far more comfortable when
- 2:43Speaker 3: people are taking the piss and you two did that,
- 2:45Speaker 3: but you did it with a nice It was a
- 2:46Speaker 3: nice balance. So Carolyn, obviously she did our the speech
- 2:51Speaker 3: at the lunch and everybody was in stitches. That's nice,
- 2:55Speaker 3: Yes it was. It was good, but it was a
- 2:57Speaker 3: lovely balance of being genuine and then taking the piece
- 2:59Speaker 3: makes me far more comfortable. And then Sue Gordion made
- 3:02Speaker 3: up a whole song with the health of Ai.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Speaking of Taylor Swift, we have Sue Gordion from the
- 3:08Speaker 1: Wild West, who's now writing songs. Possible talent do that.
- 3:13Speaker 2: I was lying in bed when I did that. Actually,
- 3:15Speaker 2: I just had this little thought of been playing around
- 3:18Speaker 2: with Ai, the future of this great world. Yeah, so
- 3:22Speaker 2: I just had a bit of fun and I put
- 3:25Speaker 2: in I'd put in a whole bunch of things about you,
- 3:28Speaker 2: and just said write me some lyrics, and literally that
- 3:32Speaker 2: that was the first attempt at the lyrics. It was
- 3:35Speaker 2: the first attempt at the lyrics.
- 3:37Speaker 1: So let me play a little bit of it. I
- 3:39Speaker 1: won't play the whole song, but I will just I'll
- 3:42Speaker 1: play a little bit of it. Here we go, and
- 3:45Speaker 1: Alex will just drop it in properly because this is
- 3:47Speaker 1: obviously half fast swindellisms, but starts beautifully emotionally it's like.
- 3:54Speaker 4: She's been around the game long enough.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Frozen.
- 3:57Speaker 3: Yes, it was very frozen.
- 4:00Speaker 4: Men swings and when a team's about to go from
- 4:05Speaker 4: the shooting circle to the common.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Teery chair, common teary chair, still sees the play before
- 4:13Speaker 1: it happens out there.
- 4:18Speaker 4: Twelve years holding the games played mark.
- 4:23Speaker 1: A record built on ye we did actually had a yesterday.
- 4:28Speaker 5: Narromald that ache and George just taking that crowd.
- 4:34Speaker 4: And caf was classy as she handed it down.
- 4:40Speaker 5: Still the first, still, the first, still the one that
- 4:47Speaker 5: stood to smile.
- 4:48Speaker 6: And give you what you need. Happy fifty Foxy, you
- 4:54Speaker 6: raise a glass tonight.
- 4:56Speaker 1: I'm going to fight now. It's so good.
- 5:02Speaker 3: Pissed myself laughing. And so the highlight was the very
- 5:06Speaker 3: end bit and tonight and then I'm like, here we go. Pause.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I loved it. Mandy, who we were with a
- 5:16Speaker 2: fox sent through the video and it was so nice
- 5:18Speaker 2: because obviously I couldn't get there, and but just to
- 5:21Speaker 2: watch everyone's facial expressions, but just yours at different times,
- 5:25Speaker 2: because I know you hate that real limelight spotlight sort
- 5:28Speaker 2: of scenario, and so I was watching your face go
- 5:31Speaker 2: through cringe to oh that's nice too. But then just
- 5:35Speaker 2: that end bit, I thought, oh god, she'll die and
- 5:37Speaker 2: I was so like, I've forgotten who was going to be.
- 5:39Speaker 2: Then I'm like, oh, your mom's there and like waiting
- 5:42Speaker 2: for a husband, and I was like, oh my goodness.
- 5:44Speaker 3: Anything it was so I love. I said, I'm far
- 5:47Speaker 3: more comfortable when people are taking the piss out of me.
- 5:50Speaker 3: I'd much prefer that than anything else. It's funny, though,
- 5:53Speaker 3: because as soon as we walked in, I had a
- 5:55Speaker 3: little board up. You know, there's light boards and you
- 5:58Speaker 3: can put the letters in there and make the things up.
- 6:00Speaker 3: So I had two options. I was going to have
- 6:02Speaker 3: holy crap, she's fifty, but I had the f u
- 6:05Speaker 3: c K as an option. I said to mom, how
- 6:08Speaker 3: do you feel about swearing today? SHEA, I know, whatever's necessary.
- 6:11Speaker 3: I'm not wrong, so I've changed it straight away. She
- 6:15Speaker 3: heard a fair few F bombs.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Oh, oh my god, I must apologize to your mother.
- 6:19Speaker 1: I've got a bit loose in my speech and did
- 6:23Speaker 1: drop a few F bombs there. I'm sorry. She loved it.
- 6:26Speaker 1: She was caffingersel. It was a lot of fun though.
- 6:28Speaker 1: It was very good. But this I can add something
- 6:32Speaker 1: new to my list of achievements. Now I have been
- 6:36Speaker 1: coached by Julia Fitzgerald. So I arrived yesterday, wanted up
- 6:40Speaker 1: to say hello to her, and she said, I've got
- 6:41Speaker 1: a bone to pick with you. It's like, oh, terrific.
- 6:44Speaker 1: That's my favorite way to start a conversation. Obviously, But
- 6:47Speaker 1: apparently last week in last week's episode, I said the
- 6:50Speaker 1: Giants came last last year. Now I don't think I
- 6:53Speaker 1: would have said that, but I haven't bothered to check.
- 6:55Speaker 1: And if Julie says it happened, then it happened. But
- 6:57Speaker 1: I know that the Giants one five out of their
- 7:00Speaker 1: six games and fought their way back to six. And
- 7:02Speaker 1: that's why I've always loved you.
- 7:03Speaker 4: Know that.
- 7:04Speaker 1: I thought they were such a little brave team last year,
- 7:06Speaker 1: and I'm hoping they get some of those rewards this year.
- 7:09Speaker 1: But Julie Fitzgerald, I am sorry, and if I did
- 7:13Speaker 1: say that incorrectly, I would like to correct the record.
- 7:15Speaker 1: I thought the Giants were magnificent last year, and they
- 7:17Speaker 1: did not come last.
- 7:18Speaker 3: Can I add to that? I was having a conversation
- 7:21Speaker 3: with her just before I left. So Jules has been
- 7:24Speaker 3: brought out of retirement. She's coaching a team at senior
- 7:26Speaker 3: state titles. What you've agreed to? Her daughter said, Oh,
- 7:33Speaker 3: if you're going to coach, I'll come and play for
- 7:34Speaker 3: you and I'll be one of your shooters. And Jules
- 7:37Speaker 3: is like, okay, great, so we've got one. Vicki is
- 7:39Speaker 3: not a shooter who's signed up to do it. They
- 7:42Speaker 3: have not got another one. No one else has agreed
- 7:45Speaker 3: to play.
- 7:46Speaker 1: They don't have a shooting well.
- 7:48Speaker 3: She agreed three other people in the room and still
- 7:52Speaker 3: hadn't bothered. And I heard this conversation. I was like,
- 7:55Speaker 3: Julie Fitzgerald, why have you not asked me? And she said,
- 8:00Speaker 3: would you play? Not the point?
- 8:02Speaker 2: Why have you.
- 8:03Speaker 3: Not ask me? She asked Sarah Barrett, she asked Julia
- 8:07Speaker 3: Simon's X swift shooter, she asked Jane Oldschwager X swift Shooter,
- 8:11Speaker 3: she asked Sarah Barrett X Swift's mid quarter before she
- 8:16Speaker 3: asked me. Anyway, she did ask me, and then she
- 8:19Speaker 3: was telling the story and how it's going to be
- 8:21Speaker 3: so much fun and blah blah blah. And I can
- 8:23Speaker 3: see why Casey came out of retirement. I can see
- 8:26Speaker 3: because she's very persuasive. Oh really, yeah, yeah, I said,
- 8:30Speaker 3: how many games are there? And do I have to
- 8:33Speaker 3: play in Ashvilt. She's like, well, there's only twelve games, Okay,
- 8:37Speaker 3: you won't have to play all of them. You can
- 8:38Speaker 3: just stand in the circle and hold. And I said,
- 8:41Speaker 3: what surface is it Ashvilt?
- 8:43Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 8:43Speaker 3: Maybe maybe not.
- 8:45Speaker 1: You were very close though I was, but I did
- 8:48Speaker 1: literally manipulating myself. So Julie's definitely going to come along
- 8:52Speaker 1: to our Penrith event. I may have said that you'll
- 8:54Speaker 1: play for her if she comes to the event, but
- 8:56Speaker 1: I can't remember.
- 8:58Speaker 3: I was considering it.
- 8:59Speaker 2: But I can't even believe Julie even bothered. I thought
- 9:02Speaker 2: she would have known you well enough that no amount
- 9:05Speaker 2: of persuasion would have got you across the line. Well, maybe.
- 9:11Speaker 3: People just want to be asked.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Well, I think Julie is going to ask Irene van Dyke.
- 9:15Speaker 3: Yeah we did. We did, say, I asked, will pass
- 9:18Speaker 3: the hat around?
- 9:19Speaker 2: That'd be great? Then how good Irene looks?
- 9:22Speaker 3: I know, Well, this is why it came up.
- 9:24Speaker 1: She looks for her and it kills the Gordy sneer
- 9:27Speaker 1: when she talks about how good Irene. No a bit seriously,
- 9:31Speaker 1: she's just missed life and it's a bit crazy, isn't it,
- 9:35Speaker 1: Because she's a long time attired and loves it.
- 9:38Speaker 3: Yeah, so fit.
- 9:40Speaker 1: She's a dribbler. So dribblers are in good company with
- 9:43Speaker 1: Irene van Dyke and her lovely daughter Bianca.
- 9:45Speaker 2: Obviously, Irene, if you're listening and you're enjoying your coronas
- 9:48Speaker 2: that's how thing eyes and I like a corona together.
- 9:52Speaker 1: Very The one thing I would like to specifically talk
- 9:56Speaker 1: about from the weekend though, Catherine, and you know, there's
- 9:59Speaker 1: some good about not having lived your twenties and your
- 10:02Speaker 1: thirties in the public eye. Your sister Sarah did a
- 10:06Speaker 1: lovely job with a photo montage and we got to
- 10:09Speaker 1: see a great procession of lovely haircuts.
- 10:13Speaker 3: Catherine ends. The worst one was that when it was
- 10:17Speaker 3: super short and I had the super short fringe as well.
- 10:21Speaker 3: When that came up, the entire room pissed themselves laughing.
- 10:26Speaker 2: That one, Kather reminds me of the old lego pieces,
- 10:30Speaker 2: you know, the lego humans. Yeah, there's got that little
- 10:34Speaker 2: you know, straight across the head.
- 10:36Speaker 3: What it is, just take it off and put it
- 10:38Speaker 3: on the next person, and then every other set, well,
- 10:41Speaker 3: every second photo of me too. I had an alcoholic
- 10:43Speaker 3: beverage of some sort in my hand. Oh my god,
- 10:46Speaker 3: it's just a flurry of bad hairdoos and drinks.
- 10:50Speaker 1: But beautiful inside and out always Catherine. So happy birth. Johh,
- 10:54Speaker 1: thank you, thank you both you here, but you're not
- 10:57Speaker 1: really very but sure no.
- 10:59Speaker 3: I know could be thirty four.
- 11:00Speaker 2: Thanks very mu quickly. Do you feel any different?
- 11:03Speaker 3: No, I and I didn't think I would. I had
- 11:06Speaker 3: severe imposter syndrome. Yesterday though it just felt weird. I'm like,
- 11:11Speaker 3: how'm or fifty? I was always the young one and
- 11:14Speaker 3: then suddenly you're not. I said to mom too, we're
- 11:17Speaker 3: having breakfast in the morning, like, how do you feel
- 11:19Speaker 3: about your youngest child when fifty? That's really off?
- 11:24Speaker 2: It is great, reminded to your mother.
- 11:28Speaker 3: Anyway, it was a good day, and thank you too
- 11:30Speaker 3: for knowing me better than everybody else appreciate it.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Yeah, so good, very very fun. But we're just feeling
- 11:37Speaker 1: a little bit of it. You've brought over a snack
- 11:40Speaker 1: for me, though, and this is part of one of
- 11:42Speaker 1: your birthday gifts, and this one Kiwi dribblers will will
- 11:46Speaker 1: know this one the Perkin Nana. So have you ever
- 11:49Speaker 1: had the Perkin Narana? I'm not yeah, you're a big fan, Catherine.
- 11:54Speaker 1: I'm not a big fan, and I wonder you know
- 11:57Speaker 1: it's an artificial banana flavor when they made that, had
- 12:01Speaker 1: anyone in that process ever tried an actual banana. It
- 12:05Speaker 1: tastes absolutely nothing like banana.
- 12:10Speaker 2: The other day, Cat, sorry, just quickly, what was that
- 12:12Speaker 2: lolly you said I'll try one of these at commentary?
- 12:15Speaker 3: Yeah, that was a peeler and that's banana.
- 12:19Speaker 2: That tastes like baby pooh. I'll be honest with you,
- 12:22Speaker 2: that wasn't so.
- 12:24Speaker 3: Yeah, I like the peeler.
- 12:25Speaker 1: I don't know this, tell me I'll bring you them.
- 12:27Speaker 3: We've got a houseful of pillers. I love it. It's
- 12:31Speaker 3: like a banana paddle pop. No, it's just not but
- 12:37Speaker 3: it's not nothing. None of it tastes like real banana.
- 12:40Speaker 3: I really like that.
- 12:41Speaker 1: Yeah, isn't it?
- 12:43Speaker 6: That?
- 12:43Speaker 3: From so you can get a box of favorites. But
- 12:45Speaker 3: the New Zealand versions it's got buzz bars and fish
- 12:48Speaker 3: and Morrow bars.
- 12:49Speaker 1: And yeah, yeah, does it have any jelly tip chocolate?
- 12:54Speaker 3: No, that's Wittkers, isn't it.
- 12:56Speaker 6: It is?
- 12:56Speaker 1: That's true totally different brand. Yeah, good point.
- 13:00Speaker 2: It has token up.
- 13:01Speaker 1: Anyway, So if you're not a fake banana fan, stay
- 13:05Speaker 1: well away from the perky nana. Super fun to say,
- 13:09Speaker 1: but it is, it's and it's it takes like the
- 13:13Speaker 1: the fake banana flavor and it intensifies. It's so good.
- 13:17Speaker 3: Yeah, I licked my wrapping.
- 13:19Speaker 1: I love you and thank you very much for that. Yeah,
- 13:23Speaker 1: but you brought me some more birthday cake from yesterday
- 13:25Speaker 1: and I appreciate that. That was bloody delicious. But you know,
- 13:30Speaker 1: something weird happened on the weekend. Apparently some netball was
- 13:33Speaker 1: also played. Maybe we should take a short break and
- 13:36Speaker 1: then talk about some netball done done, Okay, So yeah,
- 13:52Speaker 1: we are getting to the business end of the season.
- 13:54Speaker 1: So I don't think it was always going to be
- 13:57Speaker 1: tough for the Firebirds, but they're mathematical chance of reaching
- 14:01Speaker 1: the finals is now gone. The Lightning and the Swifts
- 14:05Speaker 1: are on life support. But there is still something. There
- 14:10Speaker 1: is still a very faint pulse in their finals hopes.
- 14:14Speaker 1: But you know, we are starting it's starting to firm
- 14:17Speaker 1: up at the top four there, I reckon.
- 14:19Speaker 3: Well, yeah, the MAVs and our two wins in front, Yeah,
- 14:23Speaker 3: fifth and six, Well you'd have to be feeling pretty good.
- 14:26Speaker 3: But it depends on who they've got for the run home.
- 14:28Speaker 3: They've got West Coast Bever next week, and they've got
- 14:32Speaker 3: the Vixens and they've got the Firebirds, so you think
- 14:35Speaker 3: they'd win that one. But god, it's exciting.
- 14:38Speaker 1: It's an interesting round ahead this because of course Fever
- 14:41Speaker 1: and MAVs have to play one and play one another.
- 14:44Speaker 1: One of them has to win, and ta Birds and Vixens,
- 14:47Speaker 1: one of them has to win, and they're largely irrelevant
- 14:49Speaker 1: now I think, apart from the to themselves Thunderbirds and
- 14:52Speaker 1: Vixens about who ends up first. But that Fever MAVs one,
- 14:56Speaker 1: that's a really interesting, interesting one, and so the Swifts.
- 15:00Speaker 2: I was going to say with that, Yeah, just with
- 15:01Speaker 2: that Fever maps because I think Fever play Fever play
- 15:05Speaker 2: mAbs and then Giants and then Vixens. So the MAVs
- 15:11Speaker 2: and the Fever have a very similar run home in
- 15:14Speaker 2: terms of obviously playing each other. One's playing Giants and
- 15:17Speaker 2: Firebirds both have to play Vixens, so that sort of
- 15:23Speaker 2: and if it turns out that they're they're the three
- 15:25Speaker 2: and four, that pre Limb final hosting I think is
- 15:28Speaker 2: still up for graps.
- 15:30Speaker 3: Do you know what I noticed on the weekend, and
- 15:32Speaker 3: I don't know if it's been there or if it's
- 15:35Speaker 3: become far more of a chat in these the recent
- 15:37Speaker 3: couple of weeks looks like people are playing for big margins. Now, Yeah,
- 15:42Speaker 3: you know, because the percentage is going to be so important,
- 15:46Speaker 3: and the Thunderbirds smash their game, so they've really boosted
- 15:50Speaker 3: their percentage. But it could well come down to that,
- 15:52Speaker 3: couldn't it.
- 15:53Speaker 1: It's not going to make much difference for that. I mean,
- 15:55Speaker 1: it might make a difference for the Thunderbirds, but certainly Lightning, Swifts,
- 15:59Speaker 1: mAbs and Fever like they've got to keep an eye
- 16:02Speaker 1: on that as well as their position on the table. Right,
- 16:04Speaker 1: So Fever on twenty eight, so Thunderbirds and Vixens are
- 16:06Speaker 1: both on forty, with the Thunderbirds ahead. Fever's on twenty eight,
- 16:10Speaker 1: maps are on twenty four, then Lightning and Swifts are
- 16:12Speaker 1: on sixteen. So you know, if Fever wins this week
- 16:17Speaker 1: and Lightning and or Swift's win their game, then we're
- 16:21Speaker 1: starting to see Fever on thirty two, maps on twenty four,
- 16:23Speaker 1: Lightning and Swifts and or Swift's on twenty and so
- 16:27Speaker 1: things start to start to look like there's a competition
- 16:31Speaker 1: on for that fourth place spot. But if the MAVs
- 16:34Speaker 1: win this weekend, I think the Lightning and Swifts are
- 16:36Speaker 1: both out. I think that sort of makes it unattainable
- 16:40Speaker 1: for them, but very exciting. So in the finals one.
- 16:44Speaker 3: Place four yep, no, one place two one week.
- 16:48Speaker 1: Who and then that whoever loses that gets a second
- 16:51Speaker 1: crack at it.
- 16:52Speaker 3: And they will play three plays four in the first
- 16:54Speaker 3: week as well. Whoever win with those plays the loser
- 16:57Speaker 3: of one versus two the following week.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Okay, so it's interesting. You're almost better off to come third,
- 17:03Speaker 1: aren't you, because then you'll get the home final.
- 17:06Speaker 2: Well no, but then if you lose your auns human
- 17:09Speaker 2: otional finals, so you definitely want the top two. Yeah,
- 17:13Speaker 2: what's interesting, I think, And I was thinking about this yesterday. Actually,
- 17:16Speaker 2: if with the Thunderbirds and Vixen's ideally will play off
- 17:19Speaker 2: on ideally likely will play off first and second. Let's
- 17:23Speaker 2: say Thunderbirds host that first game and Vixen's obviously Melbourne.
- 17:30Speaker 2: I want to say Vixen's Melbourne have the Grand Final,
- 17:33Speaker 2: and so let's just say the Vixens don't win that,
- 17:36Speaker 2: so Thunderbirds go straight in Vixen's then go into a
- 17:40Speaker 2: prelim final against whoever like desperate to win obviously because
- 17:46Speaker 2: that opportunity to play at home. So for me, it's
- 17:49Speaker 2: so important that the Vixen's land on top of the ladder.
- 17:52Speaker 2: I feel like there's a slippery slope possibility if they don't.
- 17:57Speaker 2: I feel like the Vixen's probably want that home grand
- 18:01Speaker 2: advantage in the first final. It's not to say that
- 18:03Speaker 2: they won't get there, but then you also it's eight
- 18:07Speaker 2: for them.
- 18:08Speaker 3: Yeah, you also as a fan though, don't want that
- 18:10Speaker 3: because then there's two finals in Melbourne where it'd be
- 18:13Speaker 3: nice to be able to share it around a little
- 18:14Speaker 3: bit during those Dames.
- 18:16Speaker 2: Hey, but yeah, this person you want it all and
- 18:20Speaker 2: you want to be sleeping in your bed.
- 18:21Speaker 1: The entire time. Yep, absolutely well, although Vixen's, you know,
- 18:26Speaker 1: last year, nothing was easy for it couldn't given that
- 18:30Speaker 1: was the best thing, wasn't it. So what was the
- 18:32Speaker 1: game of the round that we've just had from from
- 18:35Speaker 1: your perspective.
- 18:35Speaker 3: Certainly wasn't the one that I did.
- 18:38Speaker 1: It was tough, was tough.
- 18:40Speaker 3: It was a thirty three goal blowout. Thunderbirds did not
- 18:47Speaker 3: drop a quarter obviously with a margin like that the
- 18:50Speaker 3: second quarter twenty two to five five and the Giants'
- 18:55Speaker 3: lowest ever quarter score and then thirty seven, their lowest
- 19:00Speaker 3: ever game score.
- 19:03Speaker 1: So of the clubs, the made thirty seven in the
- 19:06Speaker 1: first two quarters. Yeah, Giants made thirty seven in the
- 19:09Speaker 1: whole game.
- 19:10Speaker 3: Unbelievable. So it was not a great game. But I
- 19:13Speaker 3: just kept thinking, Oh my god, what do they have
- 19:16Speaker 3: to do to find a win? You want them to
- 19:18Speaker 3: get a win, right, like you have to go through
- 19:21Speaker 3: a season without a win? Would be the hardest thing.
- 19:24Speaker 3: One win. Where is it coming though? If they are
- 19:26Speaker 3: only allowed one win as a club, where do you
- 19:29Speaker 3: think they would want to have it? Because I reckon
- 19:31Speaker 3: where they'd want to have it?
- 19:32Speaker 1: Round Rome?
- 19:34Speaker 2: Yeah, they play the Swifts too.
- 19:40Speaker 3: Can you imagine if the Swifts like that's their opportunity
- 19:43Speaker 3: to win through to a final and the Giants have
- 19:46Speaker 3: an opportunity to play them like that, would that would
- 19:48Speaker 3: be their best time to get their first win?
- 19:51Speaker 2: True? But at the same time, imagine if Swifts have
- 19:54Speaker 2: no chance of making the final and going and underestimate
- 19:58Speaker 2: and Giants are looking for their first win, that's where
- 20:01Speaker 2: it likely comes.
- 20:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:03Speaker 2: Interesting, girls, do you know on the weekend. That the closest.
- 20:07Speaker 2: I think this will be the biggest when I say
- 20:09Speaker 2: blowout round The closest score from the weekend was ten ten.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Yeah, double games at the margin of ten.
- 20:16Speaker 3: Now was that the same last week? Remember we were
- 20:18Speaker 3: talking about blowouts? Or was that the week before?
- 20:21Speaker 2: No, it was it was last week Thunderbirds Mavericks was
- 20:25Speaker 2: for the difference.
- 20:26Speaker 3: Yeah, there was one. Might have been the week it
- 20:28Speaker 3: was the week before. Every game was a blowout. The
- 20:31Speaker 3: closest was four times.
- 20:32Speaker 1: Yeah, having been a really close comp so far, so
- 20:36Speaker 1: that was grand. That was round ten, Round nine, Round nine.
- 20:41Speaker 2: I think the game of the round was the mAbs Lightning.
- 20:44Speaker 2: It probably held it there for the even but.
- 20:48Speaker 3: In terms of importance too, right, like that.
- 20:51Speaker 1: Was and mAbs won. That game was zero supershots, I believe,
- 20:54Speaker 1: which I think is really interesting, right, and you know,
- 20:58Speaker 1: Lightning Lightning were for the first half, but then it
- 21:02Speaker 1: really started to run away with them. So Mad's one
- 21:04Speaker 1: quarter three seventeen to twelve, quarter four nineteen to twelve.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Interesting. Lizzie Watson was interviewed at the back of the
- 21:11Speaker 2: game and she actually made comment about the fact that
- 21:14Speaker 2: their first half was exactly the lightning they believe they are,
- 21:20Speaker 2: and then the second half was the lightning that they're
- 21:22Speaker 2: trying to get rid of. And I'm I just thought
- 21:25Speaker 2: it was a really interesting summary. Right, They've got this vision,
- 21:28Speaker 2: and they've got an understanding of the sort of team
- 21:30Speaker 2: that they know they're capable of being, but their ability
- 21:33Speaker 2: to do it consistently. They did it last week, but
- 21:36Speaker 2: this week, just their ability to do it consistently week
- 21:40Speaker 2: to week is a problem. And again have to beg
- 21:43Speaker 2: the question their list is undeniable, so I just find it.
- 21:47Speaker 2: And do you know what. I was having a side
- 21:49Speaker 2: conversation with someone where they said, oh, you know, lightning, Like,
- 21:53Speaker 2: what the hell's going on? And I actually made an
- 21:55Speaker 2: excuse for them, and I said, I think people have
- 21:58Speaker 2: underestimated that Kara cone and has only just stepped out
- 22:03Speaker 2: into goal attack and that she was a dominant force
- 22:06Speaker 2: at shooter, and so it's taken her while to craft
- 22:08Speaker 2: out this new role at goal attack, et cetera, et cetera.
- 22:11Speaker 2: And then they haven't really probably had the switch up
- 22:14Speaker 2: that they had hoped for in Gabby Sinclair. And then
- 22:18Speaker 2: the coverage opened and I think it was Kira commentating,
- 22:21Speaker 2: and then her between her and Kattu eviting. They went
- 22:23Speaker 2: on to say that Carra Conan has the best stats
- 22:28Speaker 2: of any goal in the leg points yeah and everything
- 22:33Speaker 2: like goal yeah killing it so not necessarily volume at
- 22:38Speaker 2: the post, and that's probably a little bit of the problem. Yeah,
- 22:43Speaker 2: the Lightning is just that imbalance, and I guess Danelle
- 22:46Speaker 2: Wallam's not yet showing capability of being like the janeal Fowler.
- 22:50Speaker 3: You know, he's going to say it's similar to a
- 22:54Speaker 3: lot of goal attacks. But the problem is you're not
- 22:56Speaker 3: having Danel Wallam with the volume.
- 22:58Speaker 2: That she's probably a little bit inconsistent and missing some
- 23:03Speaker 2: of the shots. But yeah, I was like, oh sorry, Cara.
- 23:05Speaker 2: I was probably like I was giving her an excuse.
- 23:07Speaker 2: But then the girls were sort of saying just how
- 23:09Speaker 2: well she has done, which is great, but again doesn't
- 23:12Speaker 2: speak to the just the like it's poor form, like
- 23:16Speaker 2: it's if you were one of the players. And when
- 23:19Speaker 2: we talk about it, the leaders that sit within the
- 23:22Speaker 2: Lightning not being able to solve that problem is concerning.
- 23:27Speaker 1: And it feels like that's a couple of seasons in
- 23:29Speaker 1: a row, too, doesn't it So? And I know that
- 23:31Speaker 1: there are adjustments being made I'm also curious to see, like,
- 23:35Speaker 1: I know how they are really blessed at the defense end,
- 23:39Speaker 1: but ash Evan has been given virtually no time and
- 23:43Speaker 1: I sort of and I know that each Super Netball
- 23:47Speaker 1: coach's responsibility is to win that season. But when you've
- 23:52Speaker 1: got diamonds squad members and invitees in your own squad
- 23:58Speaker 1: and they're not getting caught, I just I feel like
- 24:01Speaker 1: there's a heavier weight of responsibility if you've got those
- 24:04Speaker 1: diamonds to have to do something for them for their career.
- 24:08Speaker 1: You to me and I know, nah, I reckon.
- 24:11Speaker 2: Sorry, I think the weight of responsibility sits on Ash, right,
- 24:16Speaker 2: So what the conversations had she would have she should
- 24:21Speaker 2: have known. I won't say she would have known. She
- 24:23Speaker 2: should have known that Courtney Bruce was still going to
- 24:26Speaker 2: hold down that goalkeeper position. Yeap irrespective right, and she
- 24:31Speaker 2: probably would have had insight to the recruitments that were
- 24:34Speaker 2: going on, or if she didn't, her management, that's her
- 24:36Speaker 2: management's job. Ash should have moved and had every club
- 24:41Speaker 2: in the league coming at her, and she chose to stay.
- 24:44Speaker 3: Okay, But this is interesting because every single player is
- 24:48Speaker 3: off contract at the end of this season. This to me,
- 24:52Speaker 3: will be a very very interesting player movement period. Because
- 24:57Speaker 3: we brought this up when we were chatting about the
- 24:59Speaker 3: Giants game on the weekend. How many of those Giants
- 25:02Speaker 3: want to stay there? How many of just seeing a
- 25:03Speaker 3: sinking sheep and want they get the hell out of there?
- 25:06Speaker 3: You know, it'll be really interesting. And then for players
- 25:08Speaker 3: like Ash, for players like I don't know, like a
- 25:11Speaker 3: Siff Sandholt, because I know she's great, but she's on
- 25:14Speaker 3: the bench. Someone would desperately love to have her. There's
- 25:16Speaker 3: going to be definitely some players that I think are
- 25:19Speaker 3: poached and that should consider moving, and everyone's going to
- 25:23Speaker 3: be in that boat. But it becomes that, I mean
- 25:25Speaker 3: when we talked about this last time it happened. It's
- 25:28Speaker 3: also the flow on effect, isn't it like your first
- 25:30Speaker 3: selection to to any team whoever that is who then
- 25:34Speaker 3: else goes there and who else is built around that player,
- 25:37Speaker 3: So it's almost like moving all your chest pieces until
- 25:40Speaker 3: you find out what club is best for you.
- 25:44Speaker 1: And I remember when Giants signed Lucy Austin last year,
- 25:49Speaker 1: I thought genius, absolutely fantastic. Now she had a rough
- 25:54Speaker 1: the rounds she did play, she just didn't seem to
- 25:57Speaker 1: be herself or whatever and then obviously is this injury
- 26:01Speaker 1: and is out there but you know that's bloody hard
- 26:04Speaker 1: too that but that to me looked like that's a
- 26:07Speaker 1: really smart signing.
- 26:09Speaker 2: And it's just I just on the weekend, just from
- 26:13Speaker 2: someone that's sat in the chair of recruitment for five years.
- 26:17Speaker 2: It is a really tough job and the decision making
- 26:23Speaker 2: is not singular, and I think this is the evolution
- 26:26Speaker 2: of our sport, which I think is great. But player
- 26:30Speaker 2: movement is so much more than what we as fans,
- 26:34Speaker 2: you as fans just see on a day to day
- 26:37Speaker 2: basis on the court.
- 26:40Speaker 3: There is yeah, gone, no, no, Well, I wanted to
- 26:42Speaker 3: ask you a question about how how hard it is
- 26:46Speaker 3: because I would imagine a lot of player managers have
- 26:50Speaker 3: got their player having discussions with four or five clubs.
- 26:56Speaker 2: And sadly, and I do mean this sadly, a lot
- 27:01Speaker 2: of the pain and angst in recruitment sits behind very
- 27:05Speaker 2: little dollar caf Like you can be negotiating one or
- 27:10Speaker 2: two thousand dollars difference for a play to move across
- 27:12Speaker 2: the country, like from west to east, east to west,
- 27:15Speaker 2: north to south or whatever. It's not a lot. So
- 27:18Speaker 2: I guess when you're building recruitment, you're trying to build
- 27:23Speaker 2: a picture that's far beyond the salary that the player
- 27:26Speaker 2: might be receiving. And that and Carolyn, that comes back
- 27:29Speaker 2: to what were those conversations that ash Irvin was having,
- 27:33Speaker 2: because I imagine it would have been more than just court
- 27:37Speaker 2: time unless that's all she's pursuing. If that's what she's pursuing,
- 27:41Speaker 2: she was being offered that in a lot of other places,
- 27:43Speaker 2: and in my opinion, she should have got up and gone.
- 27:45Speaker 2: But what else is on offer? And the modern day
- 27:48Speaker 2: athlete there needs to be a lot more offer well being,
- 27:52Speaker 2: their livelihood, their life balance, their connections, combinations. Who's the coach,
- 27:59Speaker 2: what's the experience of the coach? And you know that's
- 28:02Speaker 2: going to be something that I think the Giants are
- 28:04Speaker 2: going to probably struggle with. Narrator doesn't have runs on
- 28:07Speaker 2: the board. She's a first year coach who's going to
- 28:10Speaker 2: go to the Giants. There's going to have to be
- 28:13Speaker 2: a lot of convincing what's the coaching staff and the
- 28:16Speaker 2: high performance system that sits around narrative that's going to
- 28:19Speaker 2: convince an athlete that that's where my future is moving
- 28:22Speaker 2: to the big city, right, like so.
- 28:24Speaker 1: Much expensive too, that going to be bugger all and
- 28:28Speaker 1: moved to the most expensive city and one of the
- 28:30Speaker 1: most expensive cities in the world.
- 28:31Speaker 3: They do need to I feel like they do need
- 28:33Speaker 3: to start with the marquee signing though. That's going to
- 28:35Speaker 3: be their first thing right to draw people. Otherwise it's
- 28:39Speaker 3: not happening. But the problem with that is you lose
- 28:41Speaker 3: half your dollar on that marketing side.
- 28:44Speaker 2: Every club's recruitment strategy will be different, and every year
- 28:50Speaker 2: it's slightly different. But when it becomes I think, well,
- 28:53Speaker 2: when it becomes most crucial is this period now where
- 28:56Speaker 2: we're moving into all athletes going off contract. I want
- 29:00Speaker 2: to say again, I think I actually might have been
- 29:02Speaker 2: on We might have spoken. I think about this historically.
- 29:06Speaker 2: It is by far the worst period of time in
- 29:09Speaker 2: our sport, because no other sport experiences this where all
- 29:14Speaker 2: eighty athletes go off contract. And it's not just the
- 29:18Speaker 2: athletes that are going through the pain, it is the clubs,
- 29:21Speaker 2: it is the recruiters. Like I can tell you it
- 29:25Speaker 2: was the most stressful time twice I had to do
- 29:28Speaker 2: this in a five year period where all athletes came
- 29:31Speaker 2: off contract. Horrific. Never want to do it again. Couldn't
- 29:35Speaker 2: be happier that it's not in my hands going into
- 29:38Speaker 2: this period. It will be bad and there will be movement.
- 29:41Speaker 2: There is no two ways about it. There will be movement,
- 29:44Speaker 2: and it's an ugly period.
- 29:46Speaker 1: Coaches who have like, are any of them lost star?
- 29:50Speaker 3: As I know? The only one is Kitty Wills is
- 29:51Speaker 3: signed beyond this season. She's signed through to twenty seven.
- 29:56Speaker 2: Hasn't she yes?
- 29:57Speaker 1: Period?
- 29:59Speaker 2: But he hasn't yet.
- 30:01Speaker 3: I don't know about anyone else.
- 30:02Speaker 1: Because that's interesting too, because it's like, well, then how
- 30:04Speaker 1: do they do? Like I think it's been really interesting
- 30:08Speaker 1: to watch them MAVs because of course Jereed Murphy came
- 30:09Speaker 1: in and it's like, here's your team, got it and
- 30:14Speaker 1: it seems to be working exceptionally well, and you know
- 30:18Speaker 1: that's as much the hims as the players by watching
- 30:21Speaker 1: the way he coaches and things. But it's like, surely,
- 30:25Speaker 1: ideally you sign your coach first and then the players
- 30:29Speaker 1: know who they're sorry you well, ideally you do, but again,
- 30:33Speaker 1: you know, like from experience, it just doesn't always work
- 30:37Speaker 1: like that. We're not this this is a systematic problem
- 30:40Speaker 1: we're not blessed with and with a multitude of experience
- 30:43Speaker 1: coaches at this level, which is a really exciting thing
- 30:45Speaker 1: for the sport to try and grow this space. But
- 30:49Speaker 1: at the same time, we're not talking about huge wages either,
- 30:52Speaker 1: so moving coaches or families, like if it's a female coach,
- 30:57Speaker 1: their husband might be.
- 30:58Speaker 2: A higher bread winner than you're asking that to shift. Like,
- 31:02Speaker 2: there's so many dynamics that sit behind the coach. And
- 31:05Speaker 2: then the timing of it. Our sport doesn't sack coaches
- 31:10Speaker 2: mid season, not like the AFL, right, and sometimes boards
- 31:15Speaker 2: don't make decisions probably in timeframes that they should, and
- 31:19Speaker 2: so clubs are often left on the back foot. And
- 31:22Speaker 2: then recruitment timelines have varied historically. They've got a little
- 31:27Speaker 2: bit more stable recently. But the recruitment process doesn't start
- 31:32Speaker 2: when the window opens. The recruitment process starts twelve or
- 31:35Speaker 2: twenty four months beforehand. So when you're bringing in a coach,
- 31:38Speaker 2: they have to trust the recruitment system.
- 31:42Speaker 3: Who pays the coach the club, so it's not the
- 31:46Speaker 3: salary cap that pays only Yeah, okay, so they can
- 31:50Speaker 3: be signed. That's why Kitty Wills assigned above and beyond
- 31:54Speaker 3: this particular broadcast.
- 31:55Speaker 2: He or she would have had to add a cause
- 31:57Speaker 2: in her contract that said something along the lines of,
- 31:59Speaker 2: if league doesn't exist beyond this point, they're not really
- 32:05Speaker 2: to pay her for a job that you can't pay
- 32:07Speaker 2: for a job you're not doing, or we'll find you
- 32:08Speaker 2: an alternative job or whatever it might be, which is
- 32:11Speaker 2: no different to what the Players Association and clubs are wanting,
- 32:16Speaker 2: which is this ability to sign athletes over extended periods
- 32:20Speaker 2: and across broadcasts and collective players sorry and CPA deals.
- 32:24Speaker 2: At the moment, we don't have that, so we end
- 32:27Speaker 2: up getting to this period where all eighty players come
- 32:29Speaker 2: off contract as opposed to this ability to go in
- 32:31Speaker 2: early and lock a player for an extended period like
- 32:34Speaker 2: for a lifetime contract, you know, and have clauses in
- 32:37Speaker 2: there that allow sort of you know, I guess curveballs
- 32:40Speaker 2: to occur, but everyone to be protected through the process.
- 32:45Speaker 1: She just we're lucky to have you, Gordy.
- 32:46Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 32:48Speaker 1: We always have such fascinating conversations when you are here
- 32:51Speaker 1: because you bring a totally different perspective. So we have
- 32:54Speaker 1: to take a little break in a second. But we
- 32:57Speaker 1: haven't talked about the most important comp which of course
- 32:59Speaker 1: is the Dribbler's Tip and comp, and there was a
- 33:03Speaker 1: really exclusive two exclusive groups on the weekend. We had
- 33:07Speaker 1: one person get six. So one person managed to pick
- 33:10Speaker 1: all five games, get the bonus point, and pick the
- 33:13Speaker 1: margin of thirty three goals. Yes, yes, a tip of
- 33:18Speaker 1: named Aanda, who is our tipper of the week and
- 33:20Speaker 1: wins the Vala fifty dollars voucher. But the second most
- 33:24Speaker 1: exclusive group three people three got zero this week, yours truly,
- 33:34Speaker 1: Nikki Kolmo Buckley who is making a tray for the
- 33:37Speaker 1: Golden Turkey, and Bob Javitt. So I feel an extraordinarily
- 33:41Speaker 1: good company there this week.
- 33:44Speaker 2: I do seriously try well.
- 33:47Speaker 1: I tipped what I would love to have seen happen
- 33:49Speaker 1: on the weekend, so you know I didn't. Yeah, I'm
- 33:54Speaker 1: not surprised that this was not a stellar tipping round
- 33:57Speaker 1: for me. But I will tell you because I am
- 34:01Speaker 1: sitting in seventh out of eighth places in our Hosts
- 34:04Speaker 1: and Heroes tipping comp that I know my season is
- 34:08Speaker 1: pretty well done. So let me tell you. We have
- 34:11Speaker 1: two people in the comp on outright first. Now, these
- 34:14Speaker 1: are the proper people, not like our Hosts and Heroes diletons,
- 34:19Speaker 1: but Firstborns and Off to the Pub are an equal
- 34:21Speaker 1: first position on forty eight points. Now, to put it
- 34:25Speaker 1: in context, Darryl Milton, who is at the top of
- 34:29Speaker 1: the Host and Heroes, is only on forty three, so
- 34:31Speaker 1: we are dealing with some people class were significantly better
- 34:35Speaker 1: than us. So anyway, those two are pulling ahead at
- 34:38Speaker 1: the moment because then in second place we've got three
- 34:42Speaker 1: people on forty six points, so Devo two nine to two,
- 34:45Speaker 1: thundering all the way and CJ. But so we've seen
- 34:48Speaker 1: Firstborns and Off to the Pub starting to get a
- 34:50Speaker 1: bit of a lead there. And okay, so in Hosts
- 34:53Speaker 1: and Heroes, what's happened there's been a bit of movement
- 34:56Speaker 1: this week. Gordy, you've moving up in the ranks.
- 35:00Speaker 2: Ever, remember who I tipped?
- 35:03Speaker 3: She does it every week, doesn't tips, and then puts
- 35:06Speaker 3: it on video and it's always different. Yeah.
- 35:08Speaker 1: Well, and this week I did actually have a look
- 35:10Speaker 1: at what you and Daryl were tipping, and they're like,
- 35:12Speaker 1: I don't change mine on the basis of it, but
- 35:14Speaker 1: I'm interested to see what people who are actually trying
- 35:18Speaker 1: to tip properly do. But Daryl the stats man, Milton
- 35:21Speaker 1: is sitting on forty three, and we haven't tasked Darryl
- 35:23Speaker 1: with any jobs in a few weeks, so he's obviously
- 35:25Speaker 1: got way too much time on his hands to be
- 35:27Speaker 1: looking at netball. So maybe we need to give him
- 35:29Speaker 1: some job back. You can we do? You are in
- 35:31Speaker 1: second place outright, second place on forty one.
- 35:34Speaker 3: How many toothpicks in one of the little jars that
- 35:37Speaker 3: you get from a supermarket that don't have been busy
- 35:39Speaker 3: for a while.
- 35:39Speaker 1: Why don't you see Tim at document and ask him
- 35:41Speaker 1: to count the eyes in it?
- 35:43Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 35:43Speaker 1: I think? Yeah, good, Lisa, Ba fascinators are sitting on
- 35:47Speaker 1: forty G train on thirty nine, so just outside of
- 35:52Speaker 1: the podium spots at the moment. Now, Alexa, your netball bestie,
- 35:56Speaker 1: had a shocker this round, not as you know, she's
- 35:58Speaker 1: not an elite shocker, not a zero rank shocker. She
- 36:02Speaker 1: got two so the competition, so she's on thirty six.
- 36:09Speaker 1: Do you know the best part about Yeah? Do you
- 36:10Speaker 1: know the best part about Alexa? I just now can't
- 36:12Speaker 1: wait to see your social media post?
- 36:14Speaker 2: What about to say?
- 36:15Speaker 1: Are you going to make a reel about this? S
- 36:17Speaker 1: she does some great stuff and if you follow Alexa
- 36:20Speaker 1: on Instagram, might suggest you do. She's at your netball
- 36:24Speaker 1: bestie and she's put some very entertaining stuff up.
- 36:27Speaker 3: Alexa, just put the crown on my head and be
- 36:30Speaker 3: done with it.
- 36:30Speaker 1: Put the craw Well, you know there's someone ahead of you.
- 36:33Speaker 3: Yeah, but that's between Alexa.
- 36:34Speaker 1: And Okay, all right? Interesting, So Keely Debris is sitting
- 36:39Speaker 1: on thirty. I'm on twenty nine and Liz, who doesn't
- 36:42Speaker 1: tip but just goes to the home teams, is on
- 36:44Speaker 1: twenty one. So very good. Things are looking interesting. But
- 36:50Speaker 1: just before we go to the break, further to what
- 36:52Speaker 1: you were saying then about players moving around, people are
- 36:55Speaker 1: people follow the team?
- 36:57Speaker 2: Right?
- 36:57Speaker 1: We get very attached to our teams. You might want
- 36:59Speaker 1: Tom remember that when you're getting on Facebook and hanging
- 37:02Speaker 1: shit on people and other teams, that they might end
- 37:04Speaker 1: up on your team next year. True. But we have
- 37:06Speaker 1: a new exciting competition thanks to Allah, who of course
- 37:09Speaker 1: sponsored Valadribers tipping comp But this one is particularly for
- 37:14Speaker 1: big fans of the Thunderbirds, the Giants and the Swifts.
- 37:18Speaker 1: So we have got signed dresses from the squads from
- 37:22Speaker 1: each of those teams, plus a scarf and another piece
- 37:26Speaker 1: of merchandise. There prize packs. Each prize pack value to
- 37:29Speaker 1: three hundred and fifty dollars. So if you go onto
- 37:33Speaker 1: the Valor website and spend thirty dollars or more across
- 37:36Speaker 1: the Swifts, Giants, Thunderbirds, Valor Active or Accessories range, you
- 37:41Speaker 1: go into the running to win this signed prize pack.
- 37:44Speaker 1: And in when you're checking out, there's a little place
- 37:47Speaker 1: to put which one you want, because what we want
- 37:50Speaker 1: is for these prize packs to go to a megafan
- 37:53Speaker 1: of the t Birds or a megafan of the Giants,
- 37:55Speaker 1: So you just have to put Giants fans, Swifts fan
- 37:57Speaker 1: or Tea Birds fan at checkout. That competition will close
- 38:01Speaker 1: on the day of that derby between the Giants and
- 38:05Speaker 1: around fourteen round fourteen. But get on that because that
- 38:08Speaker 1: is a that's a cracking prize because we know that
- 38:11Speaker 1: we know well, we know that all eight teams had
- 38:14Speaker 1: very passionate and loyal fans.
- 38:16Speaker 3: But and it could be one of them. A premiership
- 38:19Speaker 3: winning dress could cook Yeah, only I'm going to go
- 38:24Speaker 3: out and a limb and say one of them, but
- 38:26Speaker 3: that it might be pink that dress.
- 38:29Speaker 1: Yes, So anyway, all right, let's take a quick break
- 38:33Speaker 1: and come back. Thank you for coming back. We are
- 38:48Speaker 1: here in our final segment of the day, and I'm
- 38:50Speaker 1: going to do a little bit of a throwback for
- 38:52Speaker 1: us because I have shuffling through my paper a win
- 38:56Speaker 1: Beneath Our Wings nomination.
- 38:58Speaker 3: My wait, do we know where the scrunches are?
- 39:08Speaker 1: Yes, they're They're in my sideboard, just another little no
- 39:14Speaker 1: dribble thing that gets to be at my house with
- 39:16Speaker 1: the apparently the chicken that we're now going to get
- 39:19Speaker 1: for your eggs. But so for those dribblers who don't know,
- 39:22Speaker 1: we had a segment all through our first year and
- 39:25Speaker 1: it's called Win Beneath Our Wings and this was where
- 39:28Speaker 1: you nominate people who are keeping the game alive at
- 39:32Speaker 1: the community level, all the volunteers. So and Catherine and
- 39:36Speaker 1: I had a lovely sewing bee with our very first producer,
- 39:40Speaker 1: Mandy and some very nice wines from Printhe and we
- 39:43Speaker 1: made a bunch of no dribble scrunches hand crafted and
- 39:48Speaker 1: by crafted, I mean half asked. Obviously these are these
- 39:53Speaker 1: are not terrific. And we wonder whether the Wind Beneath
- 39:55Speaker 1: Our Wings nominations dried up because the prize was shipped,
- 39:58Speaker 1: so maybe maybe, But anyway, this one's come out of
- 40:01Speaker 1: the blue, and I feel like it's very deserving and
- 40:04Speaker 1: I think that we're actually going to add something to
- 40:08Speaker 1: the scrunchy. So this one is from Rob Turzo. Hi, ladies.
- 40:13Speaker 1: I've been listening to No Dribble from the very beginning
- 40:15Speaker 1: and always look forward to my Wednesday morning drive to work.
- 40:18Speaker 1: Well Rob now Friday, all so good, fry yay. I'm
- 40:23Speaker 1: not sure if he's still running this segment, but I'd
- 40:24Speaker 1: love to nominate my wife, Jody for Wind Beneath My Wings.
- 40:27Speaker 1: JODI's love netball from a young age. She was a
- 40:29Speaker 1: representative player as a teenager, even began coaching junior teams
- 40:33Speaker 1: back then, which looking back, feels like her true calling.
- 40:36Speaker 1: Years later, after we had our two daughters, Jody coached
- 40:39Speaker 1: both of them as they started their netball journeys. At
- 40:41Speaker 1: one point, she was coaching two teams, serving as vice
- 40:44Speaker 1: president of her club, and even stepped in mid season
- 40:47Speaker 1: to take over an under seventeenth team when their coach
- 40:50Speaker 1: moved away. This year, as our girls have grown older
- 40:54Speaker 1: and moved to higher grades, Jodi made the selfless decision
- 40:57Speaker 1: to step back from coaching so they could have every
- 40:59Speaker 1: opportunity to develop further. Fair enough, Jodie takes some time off,
- 41:03Speaker 1: so I couldn't find out what association JODI's from robdin
- 41:06Speaker 1: right back, so I googled her and I think she's
- 41:08Speaker 1: somewhere out Hills District way because she was on the
- 41:12Speaker 1: president of the Rouse Hill p and C. And it's like,
- 41:14Speaker 1: is it not always the same people? So she's doing this,
- 41:18Speaker 1: she's vice president, she's coaching two teams, she takes on
- 41:21Speaker 1: under seventeenth, she's running the p and C. It is
- 41:24Speaker 1: like there's six people in any community who do absolutely everything,
- 41:29Speaker 1: and then other people go, I'm sorry, I don't have
- 41:31Speaker 1: an hour to work on the barbecue on the weekend.
- 41:33Speaker 1: I'm busy anyway, you might think that would mark the
- 41:37Speaker 1: end of her coaching. Not Jodie. She's gone back to
- 41:39Speaker 1: Friday nights to coach an under nine's net set go
- 41:41Speaker 1: team And my god, you want to do that on
- 41:45Speaker 1: a Friday night so you can have a glass of
- 41:47Speaker 1: wine after that. Made up of the kids and the
- 41:49Speaker 1: family she didn't previously know, just purely for the love
- 41:52Speaker 1: of the game. She's a loyal New South Wales swift supporter.
- 41:55Speaker 1: Inspired our whole family to attend every home game for
- 41:58Speaker 1: the past four seasons. Your impact goes way beyond our family.
- 42:01Speaker 1: She's brought netball into our lives in a meaningful way,
- 42:03Speaker 1: done the same for so many other families, young girls
- 42:06Speaker 1: she's coached and mentored over the years. There's even a
- 42:09Speaker 1: family where Jodi coached The mother is a teenager and
- 42:11Speaker 1: thirty years later coached her daughter to For all of this,
- 42:15Speaker 1: I truly believe Jody is more than deserving of a
- 42:18Speaker 1: wind beneath my wings nomination.
- 42:20Speaker 3: Ab susolute Lee.
- 42:23Speaker 1: Yeah, all in favor, Bye bye, bye, thank you. Jody.
- 42:28Speaker 1: You are the wind beneath our wings. And we're going
- 42:30Speaker 1: to send you a handcrafted scrunchy.
- 42:33Speaker 3: And whatever else we can find and a fifty dollars
- 42:36Speaker 3: alive ouch and a Perkinana.
- 42:38Speaker 1: Oh well yeah, and a Perkin Nana. And yeah, let's
- 42:42Speaker 1: send a Perkinana. You don't have to eat it, you
- 42:45Speaker 1: might just want to smell it and then perfect. But
- 42:49Speaker 1: if you'd like to send a wind beneath our wings nomination, Catherine,
- 42:53Speaker 1: what's the email address? I say it every week, Catherine.
- 42:57Speaker 1: Every it is like, is it like no DoD dribble
- 43:00Speaker 1: or no dribble or info at no dribble dot com
- 43:04Speaker 1: dot au.
- 43:08Speaker 3: Mate that ago hat.
- 43:13Speaker 1: So that's very kind to say. This has got something
- 43:15Speaker 1: to do with her turning fifteen. No, No, it's just
- 43:18Speaker 1: staring off into space. Right, Okay, all right, are we done?
- 43:23Speaker 1: We are done. That was a fascinating conversation. Lucky. We're
- 43:26Speaker 1: coming back on Friday and we'll still have body for
- 43:28Speaker 1: that so we can talk further then, but midweek, enjoy
- 43:33Speaker 1: the rest of your week, dribblers. We'll talk to you
- 43:35Speaker 1: on Friday. On Caroline Swindell, I'm cath Cock's going to
- 43:37Speaker 1: get a gatorade. What you're going to She's going to
- 43:42Speaker 1: the gator and she's hungover to Bargerin.
- 43:45Speaker 2: Like, I'm so glady, I'm going to go have a
- 43:47Speaker 2: beer and catch up.
- 43:59Speaker 4: She's been around the game long enough to know well
- 44:04Speaker 4: men and swings and when a team's.
- 44:06Speaker 6: About to go.
- 44:09Speaker 4: From the shooting circle to the commentary chair, still sees
- 44:16Speaker 4: the play before it happens out there twelve years holding
- 44:23Speaker 4: the game, it's played mark a record built on great
- 44:29Speaker 4: timing and hard now romoald at Ache and George just
- 44:35Speaker 4: taking that crowd, and cath was classy as she handed
- 44:41Speaker 4: it down.
- 44:44Speaker 5: Still the first to laugh, still the first to leave,
- 44:50Speaker 5: Still the one that stood.
- 44:52Speaker 4: To smile and give you what you need.
- 44:56Speaker 6: Happy fifty Foxy, you raise a glass tonight to the store.
- 45:01Speaker 4: He's the chaos in the stadium.
- 45:03Speaker 5: Likes to the winds of friendship, for careers she's made
- 45:06Speaker 5: and the legend of the game.
- 45:07Speaker 3: She became single but hopeful.
- 45:10Speaker 6: Still smiling somehow, still turning herds every time she walks
- 45:14Speaker 6: out hard but beside.
- 45:15Speaker 2: Her the center of it all and the ball still.
- 45:18Speaker 3: Running right through her.
- 45:20Speaker 4: Sold a coffee early before the first game call, then
- 45:32Speaker 4: a whine later on. Wants the pressure falls, commonsary scene
- 45:39Speaker 4: trying hard.
- 45:40Speaker 3: Not a joke.
- 45:43Speaker 6: Because kaf meets the bathroom at every break and play folks.
- 45:49Speaker 6: But underneath all the banter and fun, she's one of
- 45:56Speaker 6: the genuine good ones.
- 46:01Speaker 5: No ego, no fuss, just says what she sees and
- 46:07Speaker 5: everybody that ball agrees.
- 46:13Speaker 3: Fiftys plenty of stories, big.
- 46:16Speaker 6: Game moments, diamond's glory, and even now in the spotlight brite,
- 46:21Speaker 6: she still.
- 46:22Speaker 3: Makes the whole sport feel right.
- 46:27Speaker 6: Happy fifties POxy, this one's for you for everything you've
- 46:32Speaker 6: given the sport you love to from player to caller,
- 46:35Speaker 6: respected by all till one of the greats of Australian netball.
- 46:40Speaker 3: So here's the captain.
- 46:41Speaker 6: The next chapter two more laughs, more coffee in a
- 46:44Speaker 6: wine or two, and maybe get somewhere out there tonight.
- 46:52Speaker 2: A husband who can keep up with.
- 46:57Speaker 6: The run, and sad in the
- 47:06Speaker 4: Stand.
