- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Almost Famous podcast with her Radio and
- 0:05Speaker 1: welcome to Almost Famous The O G s with your
- 0:08Speaker 1: hosts The O G, trist That Sutter and Me, Bob Guinny,
- 0:13Speaker 1: Welcome to our show this week. I just want to
- 0:16Speaker 1: say something trist that last week I loved it because
- 0:19Speaker 1: we talked all about you, all about your show, and
- 0:22Speaker 1: you know, and I even thought a few times, I'm like, gosh,
- 0:24Speaker 1: you know, Trista, I don't understand why she's like, you know,
- 0:28Speaker 1: I didn't want us to watch it didn't what wasn't it?
- 0:30Speaker 1: It wasn't. And so then this week, um, I I
- 0:33Speaker 1: so feel your pain right now, my friend, and I
- 0:35Speaker 1: am so sorry, so sorry that I was like, well,
- 0:40Speaker 1: come on, trist I have some fun with this. No,
- 0:45Speaker 1: it is so crazy. It's like when you hear your
- 0:48Speaker 1: voice on a voicemail or any interview. You know, when
- 0:52Speaker 1: you first started doing stuff in the media. Well, you
- 0:55Speaker 1: were a singer, so maybe that doesn't affect you, but
- 0:57Speaker 1: I feel like I hated listen to me. I hated
- 1:01Speaker 1: watching myself and all the faces I made and what
- 1:05Speaker 1: I said. And so yeah, I'm so glad that you
- 1:08Speaker 1: finally understand since last week, I mean it hasn't been
- 1:12Speaker 1: a long time. Um, but we got to watch Bob's
- 1:15Speaker 1: season and now we get to pick it apart like
- 1:18Speaker 1: we did Mind last week. So I gotta tell you this. So, um,
- 1:23Speaker 1: I've been very insulated, right because, uh, you know when
- 1:28Speaker 1: my season first heard uh for the premier episode, they
- 1:32Speaker 1: they had uh like this party thing that we did
- 1:35Speaker 1: for it, right, and we were all together for that,
- 1:37Speaker 1: and it was a lot of talking, and I don't remember.
- 1:40Speaker 1: I don't really remember hearing myself that much. And I
- 1:42Speaker 1: really enjoyed it then way more than this time when
- 1:45Speaker 1: I had to hear myself. And first of all, I
- 1:48Speaker 1: don't know if I I mean, do I sound like that?
- 1:50Speaker 1: And then what I really sound like when I talk?
- 1:52Speaker 1: And then do I really giggle all the time incessantly
- 1:56Speaker 1: for no reason like I was watching? And then what
- 1:59Speaker 1: the hell was going on with my hair? Like it
- 2:01Speaker 1: literally I had this big game, curly que section that
- 2:04Speaker 1: hung down, and I'm like, then I also have to
- 2:09Speaker 1: tell you this part. People. You know, when I would
- 2:12Speaker 1: do all the interviews after being on your season, and
- 2:16Speaker 1: people would always say, oh, yeah, funny, Bob, we love funny.
- 2:19Speaker 1: But I never heard myself called fat Bob. Until I
- 2:21Speaker 1: watched the show last night, I'm like, what the hell
- 2:23Speaker 1: is that? Wait? Remind me when did that? Did you
- 2:26Speaker 1: call yourself fat Bob? I said it all the time.
- 2:29Speaker 1: I would always go, is that a fat show? But
- 2:31Speaker 1: you know, but it was so funny because, uh, Chris
- 2:34Speaker 1: Harrison and one of his intros for me, it was like,
- 2:36Speaker 1: you know, and you know, the America responded in just
- 2:41Speaker 1: crazy format. At one point, I'm like, they're selling this
- 2:45Speaker 1: awfully hard and he's like, you know, and uh, I
- 2:49Speaker 1: mean he was fat Bob and now he's lean and mean,
- 2:53Speaker 1: loving Bob. I'm like, oh, so I'm gonna have to
- 2:56Speaker 1: call Harrison about that too. Yeah, let's get him on
- 2:58Speaker 1: the show next shot him up. But it was uncomfortable
- 3:01Speaker 1: tell so I know, I know what you mean. I
- 3:03Speaker 1: was just going, why would I say that? Why did
- 3:06Speaker 1: I do that? You know? And my memory was so different,
- 3:11Speaker 1: so different was it? Well? Because you know, I've never
- 3:15Speaker 1: I mean, this might be a terrible thing to admit
- 3:17Speaker 1: right now, but I've never watched the season myself. Terrible
- 3:20Speaker 1: thing to this since the season, Like I remember and
- 3:23Speaker 1: you just said you watched it? Did you watch it
- 3:25Speaker 1: at a party? So there were a bunch of people around. Yes, well,
- 3:28Speaker 1: I remember one of my favorite memories and I did
- 3:30Speaker 1: pop up last night when I was watching the episode.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Um one of the favorite things that I said, and
- 3:36Speaker 1: thankfully I was with Andrew Firestone when I said, or
- 3:39Speaker 1: when we both watched, because I don't even remember saying it,
- 3:41Speaker 1: but I was like, I was like pouring out some
- 3:43Speaker 1: wine to my family at the dinner table, and I'm like,
- 3:45Speaker 1: and this is from the Guinea Stone Vineyards. And I
- 3:49Speaker 1: remember sitting with the Andree we were in New York
- 3:51Speaker 1: and he looked at me, goes really bro and I
- 3:54Speaker 1: love Andrew. So I was like, I don't even remember
- 3:56Speaker 1: saying that. So that popped up last night and I
- 3:59Speaker 1: thought that was pretty funny. But other than that, I
- 4:01Speaker 1: was I know, I feel your pain. I do. It
- 4:06Speaker 1: is not like it was especially for me obviously, and
- 4:11Speaker 1: how it ended up. It was one of the best
- 4:13Speaker 1: times of my life because I met Ryan. But it
- 4:18Speaker 1: was so cringe e I just I I hated watching
- 4:22Speaker 1: it back. Uh. So okay, so tell us how did
- 4:25Speaker 1: you feel like? Obviously we went from my season where
- 4:29Speaker 1: we were we were good friends, we had a connection,
- 4:32Speaker 1: but obviously I feel like our connection was and still
- 4:37Speaker 1: is great friends and and so you went from that
- 4:41Speaker 1: experience and you had the experience of having all the
- 4:43Speaker 1: cameras in your face and you know all of that too,
- 4:46Speaker 1: then being the lead and I when you said I
- 4:49Speaker 1: don't like hurting people's feelings, do you remember I cried
- 4:53Speaker 1: the first night the first night of my I felt
- 4:57Speaker 1: the exact same way, especially the first NIPE, because I
- 5:00Speaker 1: was like, I don't even know these guys and I'm
- 5:03Speaker 1: sending them home, you know, based on maybe one conversation
- 5:07Speaker 1: if that. So, how do you feel maybe exactly so?
- 5:11Speaker 1: How did you feel going into it? Well? I remember
- 5:14Speaker 1: you and I talked obviously when they you know, I
- 5:17Speaker 1: think you might remember this, But when they first asked
- 5:18Speaker 1: me to that bachelor, I was kind of like, no,
- 5:20Speaker 1: I don't think I think I'm okay, you know. And
- 5:22Speaker 1: I really loved being and I used to say it
- 5:24Speaker 1: all the time. I was like, I was the lovable
- 5:25Speaker 1: loser from trusts Seas and this is kind of fun.
- 5:29Speaker 1: You know, I can't do anything wrong, you know, But
- 5:32Speaker 1: then you know, um, then you start thinking about it,
- 5:34Speaker 1: like what if I would miss this opportunity to meet someone,
- 5:36Speaker 1: the potential could be my soul mate, you know. And
- 5:39Speaker 1: obviously the show worked out differently for me than it
- 5:41Speaker 1: did for you. But I definitely met some really amazing women.
- 5:45Speaker 1: And I hate to even use the word amazing and
- 5:46Speaker 1: any aspect of my life, but yeah, the biggest concern
- 5:52Speaker 1: for me was to be I just hate hurting people's
- 5:56Speaker 1: feelings and and I think I kind of numbed myself
- 5:59Speaker 1: to it a little bit over the years, Like I
- 6:01Speaker 1: would make fun of it and I'd go, oh, yeah,
- 6:02Speaker 1: you could have a monkey handing out flowers and the
- 6:04Speaker 1: girls would cry that. You know, that made me feel
- 6:07Speaker 1: better about myself having to send someone home because but
- 6:10Speaker 1: in truth, it was like, you know, Um, watching the
- 6:12Speaker 1: show last night, I even thought to myself, I'm like, God,
- 6:14Speaker 1: I wish I would have known all the nice things
- 6:16Speaker 1: that these women said about me before they showed up,
- 6:18Speaker 1: because I would have maybe, you know, because I didn't
- 6:21Speaker 1: get to talk to everyone. In fact, we're gonna have
- 6:23Speaker 1: a guest on the show today. I don't even think
- 6:24Speaker 1: I got to talk to you that night, And um,
- 6:26Speaker 1: it's pretty crazy because you know, you don't realize what
- 6:31Speaker 1: amazing people you might miss out on meeting, even to
- 6:34Speaker 1: make friends with necessarily, you know, or love or whatever
- 6:37Speaker 1: will come from it. But I was super bummed, uh,
- 6:39Speaker 1: you know, to be the bachelor in that situation, because
- 6:42Speaker 1: I remember thinking, there's nothing anyone's done wrong here, and
- 6:45Speaker 1: they're gonna they're gonna go home thinking that they didn't
- 6:48Speaker 1: do something right enough, even if it weren't, even if
- 6:50Speaker 1: they didn't feel anything for me necessarily, just to remain
- 6:53Speaker 1: on the show or to get to have that experience,
- 6:55Speaker 1: and and I just felt terrible, And I mean I
- 6:59Speaker 1: did throughout the higher season, Like every time a rose
- 7:01Speaker 1: heremony came up, I was less excited, which is probably
- 7:03Speaker 1: a terrible thing to say, but I was less excited
- 7:05Speaker 1: about the flowers I was given out, or I shouldn't
- 7:08Speaker 1: say less, but I was probably equally as excited about
- 7:10Speaker 1: the flowers I was given out as I was really
- 7:12Speaker 1: upset and sad about the ones I wasn't giving up. Oh,
- 7:15Speaker 1: I know that, I totally understand where you're coming from there.
- 7:19Speaker 1: It is definitely a hard balance, I feel like for
- 7:22Speaker 1: the leads and especially I feel like, Okay, so my season,
- 7:27Speaker 1: I think probably the demographic of people who watched the
- 7:30Speaker 1: show is a way bigger number of women right. So
- 7:35Speaker 1: the men especially Okay, so on my show, the men
- 7:38Speaker 1: are going to come on the show and be the
- 7:41Speaker 1: bachelor's if you will, for the Bachelorette. But a lot
- 7:44Speaker 1: of them, because it had just started, may not have
- 7:47Speaker 1: ever seen the show or even heard of it, including Ryan.
- 7:50Speaker 1: But your season, Holy cow, these women came in like
- 7:56Speaker 1: infatuated with you. They were like gun in for you.
- 8:01Speaker 1: I mean, especially one of our guests who's going to
- 8:04Speaker 1: be on um, coming up really soon. I'm excited to
- 8:07Speaker 1: talk to her, but um, but wow, I mean that
- 8:10Speaker 1: I think was different in that they were really excited.
- 8:14Speaker 1: So the pressure I think was even greater for you
- 8:18Speaker 1: because they were really expecting to, you know, formulate this
- 8:24Speaker 1: intense relationship immediate, yeah, immediate boom, you know, and yeah,
- 8:30Speaker 1: you know, I'll never forget as a as the first
- 8:32Speaker 1: limo was pulling up, and you know, you're already nervous
- 8:34Speaker 1: enough as it is. But I don't know if you
- 8:36Speaker 1: saw this when when when we were watching it, but
- 8:38Speaker 1: they started chanting my name from inside the limo and
- 8:40Speaker 1: I oh yeah as it turned the corner, and part
- 8:43Speaker 1: of me was like, oh my god, this is awesome.
- 8:45Speaker 1: And then as the door opened I felt so much pressure.
- 8:48Speaker 1: I remember going like, oh my god, what if I'm
- 8:51Speaker 1: not good enough for them? Like what if they look
- 8:53Speaker 1: like get out of the car and they're like oh,
- 8:55Speaker 1: you know, or if I'm talking to him and they're like, oh,
- 8:57Speaker 1: I expected so much more, you know, or whatever, because
- 9:00Speaker 1: at that point, I've been kind of over I've been
- 9:02Speaker 1: oversaturated at that point, you know, where I was. I
- 9:04Speaker 1: had been an Operah a bunch in between your show
- 9:06Speaker 1: and and and mine, and it was like, you know,
- 9:09Speaker 1: they saw just like clips of me and snippets, you know,
- 9:13Speaker 1: and well off Operah loves him, he must be great.
- 9:15Speaker 1: You know. It was kind of like I heard a
- 9:17Speaker 1: couple of people say that, But I remember thinking to myself, like,
- 9:19Speaker 1: what if I'm not good enough? You know? And they're like,
- 9:23Speaker 1: so they have these expectations. What if I can't fulfill them?
- 9:25Speaker 1: And up until that point, I had zero self doubt
- 9:27Speaker 1: And then like really, the first door of the limit opens,
- 9:29Speaker 1: I'm like, oh my god, you know, oh I tend
- 9:35Speaker 1: to do that a lot in my life. Do you
- 9:37Speaker 1: think um was Chris a big help when it came
- 9:39Speaker 1: to that self doubt? And yeah, I mean, you know,
- 9:42Speaker 1: I mean there's a few. There's several moments in the
- 9:44Speaker 1: show that you know because as you know, you know,
- 9:47Speaker 1: going through the experience the first time, you do create
- 9:50Speaker 1: friendships with even though you're not supposed to, you know,
- 9:52Speaker 1: necessarily create friendships with the producers and with the host
- 9:55Speaker 1: and everything else you do. And you know, Chris is
- 9:57Speaker 1: one of those guys that he was there and he
- 10:00Speaker 1: was a great sounding board. He had been there already
- 10:03Speaker 1: at that point. I was, what the the fourth Bachelor,
- 10:06Speaker 1: but your show had gone to so this is typically
- 10:07Speaker 1: the fifth season, um, and you know he was he
- 10:11Speaker 1: had great advice for me. You know, He's like, don't
- 10:13Speaker 1: get in your own head. Just relax, enjoy yourself, you know.
- 10:16Speaker 1: And he's like, let yourself be yourself because that's what
- 10:19Speaker 1: everyone is here for. They like they like you, they
- 10:21Speaker 1: like who you are. You know, he gave me a
- 10:23Speaker 1: lot of confidence in those moments where I I think
- 10:25Speaker 1: I may not have been feeling as confident as I
- 10:27Speaker 1: would have liked to have portrayed. Yeah, I'm sure I
- 10:30Speaker 1: think all of us do it. Every lead. I can't
- 10:33Speaker 1: imagine that anyone has not had any self doubt going in,
- 10:37Speaker 1: but that that had got had had to have been
- 10:40Speaker 1: hard because the girls were just coming in hot. You know,
- 10:44Speaker 1: they were really really jones in for some Bob guinea. Um. Okay,
- 10:49Speaker 1: so how did you feel about your mom being there?
- 10:53Speaker 1: I loved the fact that they brought your mom. I
- 10:56Speaker 1: know you were horrified. Probably you'll you can tell you
- 10:59Speaker 1: can talk to us about that. But I think they
- 11:01Speaker 1: should do it again. I think they need to do
- 11:04Speaker 1: that to like change things up, because I thought it
- 11:06Speaker 1: was great that. You know, the girls then were probably
- 11:10Speaker 1: on their best behavior. Yeah, you know once she showed up,
- 11:14Speaker 1: and they wanted to impress her, maybe more than you even.
- 11:18Speaker 1: So how did you feel when your mom showed up? Well,
- 11:21Speaker 1: you know, I think I think I had made it
- 11:23Speaker 1: pretty clear when I was on your season and then
- 11:26Speaker 1: also in the subsequent interviews there after. Excuse me that,
- 11:30Speaker 1: you know, I'm a very big family person, you know,
- 11:32Speaker 1: like I love my family and I love you know,
- 11:35Speaker 1: and and now that I've built my own family, I
- 11:37Speaker 1: love being closer to my family. I relocated back to
- 11:39Speaker 1: Michigan to be closer to my mom and dad because
- 11:41Speaker 1: they're they're getting up there in years and I lost
- 11:43Speaker 1: my dad last year. So I thank god that I
- 11:45Speaker 1: did that. Um, but it was one of those things
- 11:48Speaker 1: I have in my mom. Come on, you know, everyone
- 11:49Speaker 1: kind of knew I was a mom's boy, and uh,
- 11:52Speaker 1: you know, here she comes, and you know, I mean
- 11:55Speaker 1: Nora was in her element. Let's just say that when
- 11:58Speaker 1: she came in, She's like, you know, the bell of
- 12:00Speaker 1: the ball, Hello everyone, you know, and I was like
- 12:02Speaker 1: watching her work the room, and I'm just like, oh,
- 12:05Speaker 1: And part of me like was super excited about it
- 12:08Speaker 1: because you know, it gave people an opportunity to get
- 12:10Speaker 1: a little more of a glimpse into who I really
- 12:12Speaker 1: am and not just what that scene on TV and
- 12:14Speaker 1: stuff and um, and so that was really awesome. And
- 12:17Speaker 1: then it was actually kind of comforting too, you know,
- 12:19Speaker 1: because I like to tease my mom quite a bit,
- 12:20Speaker 1: and so to have my mom there and be able
- 12:22Speaker 1: to kind of tease with her and you know, uh,
- 12:25Speaker 1: you know, just kind of watch her like I could
- 12:27Speaker 1: tell right away that she was gravitating to certain people,
- 12:30Speaker 1: and you know it was my mom, uh to a degree. Uh,
- 12:35Speaker 1: it also was like some people, you know, here's here's
- 12:37Speaker 1: where it kind of worked against me. Was my mom
- 12:40Speaker 1: would talk to some people that that I never got
- 12:43Speaker 1: to talk to and so my mom would be like, oh,
- 12:45Speaker 1: I really like so and so, And I'm like, I
- 12:47Speaker 1: didn't even get to talk to them than when I
- 12:49Speaker 1: first met them, and so, you know, and I think,
- 12:52Speaker 1: like you said, you know, knowing that it was me
- 12:54Speaker 1: before anyone got there, that they kind of came in
- 12:57Speaker 1: and it was like we sort of it was almost
- 12:59Speaker 1: like we picked up uh like like everyone that was
- 13:01Speaker 1: there that night. It was like our third day, do
- 13:03Speaker 1: you know what I mean? Like I didn't have to
- 13:04Speaker 1: go through a lot of the pleasant trees of you know,
- 13:07Speaker 1: explaining who I am and all that kind of it
- 13:08Speaker 1: was like boom, we were at this this next level.
- 13:11Speaker 1: And so I really I really did sincerely have I mean,
- 13:16Speaker 1: I would say probably eighteen of the twenty five women
- 13:19Speaker 1: that I talked to, I really was like, oh my god,
- 13:23Speaker 1: I can't send any of them home, Like what am
- 13:24Speaker 1: I gonna do? I like all of them, and you know,
- 13:27Speaker 1: and so I was really in that pickle of you know,
- 13:31Speaker 1: I will say this, I knew right when the twins
- 13:33Speaker 1: got out of the car, I'm like, I mean they're
- 13:35Speaker 1: keeping them both, are cutting them both them not playing
- 13:38Speaker 1: this game, and I know I was like, this is
- 13:43Speaker 1: not happening. So that was that was right away, and
- 13:45Speaker 1: then I never actually really got to talk to them either,
- 13:48Speaker 1: and then um, you know they were Yeah, there were
- 13:50Speaker 1: quite a few people that I felt like, man, I
- 13:52Speaker 1: would have liked to have more time with them, you know,
- 13:54Speaker 1: like um and get to know them better. Like I remember, say,
- 13:57Speaker 1: the firefighter that was I was going to ask you
- 14:00Speaker 1: about her. I was never literally going to ask you
- 14:04Speaker 1: if if you had any regrets about her, because I
- 14:07Speaker 1: was like, she's so cute and want a great job. Yeah,
- 14:10Speaker 1: I really did, you know. I actually, so this is
- 14:12Speaker 1: a little behind the scenes for everyone. I actually went
- 14:16Speaker 1: to the producers and I was like, man, I'm having
- 14:18Speaker 1: I'm having second thoughts. I said, I go this. I
- 14:20Speaker 1: sent this girl Sha home, who was a firefighter. I
- 14:22Speaker 1: never got to talk to her, but I want I
- 14:25Speaker 1: was trying to get to her all night, and I
- 14:26Speaker 1: kept going in different directions, and I'm like, what if
- 14:28Speaker 1: we you know, what if we brought her back, and
- 14:31Speaker 1: like I said, you know, she'd come back and I
- 14:33Speaker 1: go and then like that would be like the you know,
- 14:35Speaker 1: and they were like, that's not how the show works.
- 14:37Speaker 1: We're not doing that, you know it? And I did
- 14:39Speaker 1: it years later they'd be like, awesome, idea, we'll have
- 14:42Speaker 1: her crash a date, you know, like they do that
- 14:44Speaker 1: now all the time, but back then it wasn't going
- 14:46Speaker 1: to happen, and um, and I thought that way about her.
- 14:48Speaker 1: And I actually thought that way about um one of
- 14:51Speaker 1: our guests who will be on in just a few minutes,
- 14:53Speaker 1: who I hardly got to talk to you, but I
- 14:55Speaker 1: remember thinking, like, you know, I feel like if I
- 14:57Speaker 1: could bring back one or two people, those would be
- 14:59Speaker 1: the one and Um, you know, but they didn't give
- 15:02Speaker 1: me that opportunity, so you know, that's a bummer, because
- 15:06Speaker 1: you're right. They were very rigid. I remember explaining the
- 15:09Speaker 1: show to people and being like, okay, so you start
- 15:13Speaker 1: with twenty five guys, and then you go down to fifteen,
- 15:15Speaker 1: and then it's ten, and then it's you know, and
- 15:17Speaker 1: it was very like regimented or rigid. And now it's like,
- 15:23Speaker 1: you have no idea how many roses they're going to give,
- 15:26Speaker 1: how many people are going to stay until they're like, okay,
- 15:29Speaker 1: well we have tumor roses left or whatever. Yeah, yeah,
- 15:32Speaker 1: you're right. They were like yeah, yeah, Like I mean,
- 15:36Speaker 1: I've heard the comment more than once when Chris was hosting,
- 15:39Speaker 1: and then I did. I did watch the first episode
- 15:41Speaker 1: with Jesse was hosting too, and it was it was
- 15:44Speaker 1: kind of like, well and when and when when the
- 15:45Speaker 1: girl stepped into a Tasian Caitlin stepped in, It was
- 15:48Speaker 1: kind of like, what was your show? You know what?
- 15:50Speaker 1: How many roses do you want tonight? We didn't we
- 15:52Speaker 1: were doing that, you know, we were, like you said
- 15:54Speaker 1: very much. Remember when I was when I left on
- 15:56Speaker 1: your season with Jamie when you when you um, you know,
- 15:59Speaker 1: when we didn't get the real that night I believe
- 16:01Speaker 1: you went. Was that from eight tent it was from
- 16:04Speaker 1: eight to four. The next day was the hometown dates,
- 16:08Speaker 1: and I remember thinking, you know, wow, I would love
- 16:12Speaker 1: Triesta to meet my family and it would be amazing.
- 16:15Speaker 1: But then I got so nervous, you know, because I
- 16:17Speaker 1: was divorced, and I was like, I don't know, I
- 16:19Speaker 1: don't know how I feel right now, Like am I
- 16:20Speaker 1: the right guy for her? You know? So it was
- 16:23Speaker 1: so awesome when when you're at that point in the
- 16:24Speaker 1: show now, it's not that awesome when you're in your situation,
- 16:27Speaker 1: or me watching myself in that situation last night and remembering,
- 16:31Speaker 1: oh god, just just splashing back to that time on
- 16:34Speaker 1: the show, how completely stressed out I was. I mean, yeah, yeah, no,
- 16:39Speaker 1: I am possibly going to that thing and take it lightly.
- 16:41Speaker 1: If if someone were to go to that thing and
- 16:42Speaker 1: take it lightly, they are complete idiot because you are
- 16:45Speaker 1: really playing with people's emotions and feelings, and you know
- 16:49Speaker 1: it's not going to work if they're taking it lightly.
- 16:51Speaker 1: But you have to really have your head in the game,
- 16:54Speaker 1: and I know who you are and know what you're
- 16:57Speaker 1: looking for, and be serious about it and be in
- 16:59Speaker 1: the moment. So yeah, if you're taking it lightly, it
- 17:02Speaker 1: is most definitely not going to work. It will end
- 17:05Speaker 1: up even though it doesn't end up, you know, I
- 17:07Speaker 1: just saw there have been these interviews because it's like
- 17:10Speaker 1: the twentie anniversary coming up. Um. The news media has
- 17:15Speaker 1: been covering it and they've been interviewing, you know, the
- 17:18Speaker 1: people the successful relationships from the show. And I remember
- 17:22Speaker 1: reading um recently about the percentage you know, of how
- 17:27Speaker 1: many people work out compared to how many people are
- 17:30Speaker 1: relationships don't from Bachelor, Bachelor, Bachelor in Paradise, all of them,
- 17:36Speaker 1: and you know, the percentage is pretty low. But I
- 17:39Speaker 1: want to turn around and say, but you know what,
- 17:42Speaker 1: so is the percentage in real life? Like how many
- 17:44Speaker 1: people do you actually date in your dating life until
- 17:49Speaker 1: you meet the person that you spend the rest of
- 17:51Speaker 1: your life with? Well? How many time to count? Like
- 17:53Speaker 1: casual dates, you know, friends setting you up in your bowling.
- 17:57Speaker 1: You know, there's like a million different types of interactions
- 18:01Speaker 1: you can have a people. And you're right, I mean,
- 18:03Speaker 1: I get it, you're right. The numbers aren't great. But
- 18:06Speaker 1: the so there's this saying about I don't want to
- 18:10Speaker 1: offend anyone, but a girlfriend of mine, a friend of
- 18:13Speaker 1: mine who's a girl, not a girlfriend. A friend of
- 18:15Speaker 1: mine who's a girl, said this saying to me once
- 18:17Speaker 1: about Anchorage, Alaska, and I love the Anchorage Alaska for
- 18:20Speaker 1: all your Alaskans who might be tuning in today. But
- 18:23Speaker 1: I remember saying to her one night and she's a
- 18:24Speaker 1: really pretty girl and she works there Anchorage, and I
- 18:26Speaker 1: was like, God, and she's single, you know, And I
- 18:28Speaker 1: was like, it just doesn't make sense to me, Like
- 18:31Speaker 1: you're so pretty and you're so successful. I mean, do
- 18:33Speaker 1: you not want to be in a relationship, because that
- 18:35Speaker 1: makes sense if that's the case. But I'm like, everywhere
- 18:38Speaker 1: we go there's like ninety guys to one girl, and
- 18:40Speaker 1: she goes, oh, yeah, that's very right, that's very true.
- 18:42Speaker 1: The odds the odds are good and the goods are odds.
- 18:46Speaker 1: And I thought it was so funny. I've never heard
- 18:50Speaker 1: that saying before and so purely struck me as funny.
- 18:54Speaker 1: But I started thinking about it, like you said, you know,
- 18:56Speaker 1: like the relationships that, yeah, there there are a few
- 18:59Speaker 1: relationships that that seemed to go like work out and
- 19:02Speaker 1: where they get married and everything. But other than one,
- 19:05Speaker 1: there haven't been any knock on wood of those relationships
- 19:09Speaker 1: that haven't stayed together. So you know, those relationships have
- 19:12Speaker 1: really stood the test of time from the from the
- 19:14Speaker 1: show too. And I think, you know, I think there's
- 19:16Speaker 1: definitely a formula left for that. Um. I think it's
- 19:19Speaker 1: a mental formula that the couples that get together at
- 19:22Speaker 1: the end have to have being completely locked step with
- 19:25Speaker 1: to understand, you know, we got to protect this thing,
- 19:27Speaker 1: and we don't care. You know, we're not going to
- 19:29Speaker 1: do this, this and this, We're gonna do this right.
- 19:32Speaker 1: And you know, that's a big thing. And and I
- 19:34Speaker 1: think it's something to be very proud of because there
- 19:37Speaker 1: aren't a ton of them that come out and stay
- 19:39Speaker 1: in the test of time and yourselves, Sean, I mean
- 19:42Speaker 1: Shan and Catherine and and you're right, like expanding the
- 19:45Speaker 1: shows really kind of help that, Like you know, Jaden Tanner,
- 19:49Speaker 1: you know, I mean there's a lot of those relationships
- 19:51Speaker 1: that came off of different variations of the show too. Yeah, No,
- 19:55Speaker 1: I agree. I I feel very lucky obviously that I
- 20:00Speaker 1: Ryan and we have been able to be successful. But
- 20:02Speaker 1: I think a lot of things go into making a
- 20:06Speaker 1: relationship successful. And um, you know, we have our off days,
- 20:11Speaker 1: as does everybody. Um, we have our great days, and
- 20:15Speaker 1: I think it's just a matter of, um, you know,
- 20:18Speaker 1: all of the things that they talk about in every
- 20:20Speaker 1: single self help marriage book, relationship book, there is just
- 20:25Speaker 1: you know, forgiveness and and friendship and um, trust and
- 20:30Speaker 1: communication and all the all the core things you know,
- 20:33Speaker 1: like they really, Um, it's it's what you do. We've
- 20:37Speaker 1: always said that it's what you do with your relationship
- 20:40Speaker 1: after the show that matters. Because yes, they introduced us
- 20:44Speaker 1: and we are very grateful for that, but after the show,
- 20:48Speaker 1: we've put in a lot of hard work and dedication. Yeah,
- 20:51Speaker 1: it completely is on you. So and and sometimes just
- 20:54Speaker 1: one person isn't they realize that they're not ready, or
- 20:57Speaker 1: they realize that they learned something about the other person
- 21:00Speaker 1: that is not in sync with what they're looking for.
- 21:03Speaker 1: Whatever happens, I mean, life happens. You go back to
- 21:06Speaker 1: work and the work stress and the friends. Ourselves, let's
- 21:10Speaker 1: not hut ourselves calling off of a show like this
- 21:13Speaker 1: where your private jets everywhere. Right, You're taking the private
- 21:18Speaker 1: jet everywhere you want to go. You're you know, flying
- 21:20Speaker 1: into a volcano and a helicopter. You're doing all this
- 21:23Speaker 1: great stuff. And then it's like, Okay, well my car
- 21:26Speaker 1: has been in the shop for two weeks. You know, yeah,
- 21:32Speaker 1: I'm going back to the studio apartment or whatever. You know,
- 21:34Speaker 1: there is a change that comes from that. I didn't
- 21:36Speaker 1: even though, I mean, you know, like I was watching
- 21:39Speaker 1: the show last night, just kind of playing it back
- 21:42Speaker 1: in my mind, how I was so like floor with
- 21:45Speaker 1: the look of the mansion right when I when I
- 21:47Speaker 1: walked up to it, and you remember the mansion I'm
- 21:49Speaker 1: talking about. It's not the cool one that one sees nowadays.
- 21:52Speaker 1: And I remember going, oh my god, this place is awesome.
- 21:54Speaker 1: And then I remember having to ask if we could
- 21:56Speaker 1: clean the pool so I could swim in it because
- 21:58Speaker 1: it was like so green with al they were like, yeah,
- 22:03Speaker 1: I might take it there too, you know. And then
- 22:06Speaker 1: my room when and something. I used to laugh about
- 22:08Speaker 1: the room that we had because we had the same room, uh,
- 22:11Speaker 1: you know when we filmed our different shows. And he's like,
- 22:13Speaker 1: isn't it weird that the closet is like a curtain,
- 22:16Speaker 1: like you're in this, you know, million dollar house. It's like, yeah,
- 22:20Speaker 1: no doubt. And then like the kitchen, you know, the
- 22:23Speaker 1: sink didn't work. You're like, oh, maybe you sink right
- 22:27Speaker 1: here in the bathroom off the side. I'm like, you know,
- 22:30Speaker 1: it was just kind of crazy. So I just thought,
- 22:32Speaker 1: I don't know, it's so funny, you know, looking back
- 22:35Speaker 1: on it and you know, remembering that whole thing. So okay.
- 22:40Speaker 1: So I am really interested to get to our first
- 22:43Speaker 1: guest because she is one that you didn't have a
- 22:47Speaker 1: lot of time with, but yet you have said that
- 22:50Speaker 1: you reconnected with her later in life. I'll I'll let
- 22:53Speaker 1: you tell that story, but let's take your break and
- 22:55Speaker 1: then we'll bring on our first guest. Sounds great, m h.
- 23:08Speaker 1: Welcome back, everybody. I'm really excited to be able to
- 23:11Speaker 1: talk to Julie Smith, who actually is a pro in
- 23:15Speaker 1: the field. Now she'll probably be interviewing us by the
- 23:17Speaker 1: time this conversation starts. Um, but Julie, welcome and um
- 23:24Speaker 1: say hi, say hi to your ex boyfriend. How I
- 23:30Speaker 1: am great, you look beautiful as always. Thank you, thank you.
- 23:34Speaker 1: I'm on my I'm gonna break from mom at work
- 23:37Speaker 1: right now, so it's not away. Well, thank you for
- 23:40Speaker 1: sneaking away. I know you're probably delivering all the pressing
- 23:43Speaker 1: news and weather and traffic and everything else that you do. Um.
- 23:47Speaker 1: So I was telling this story about when we were
- 23:49Speaker 1: talking about bringing on guests from our season and I said,
- 23:51Speaker 1: you know, I want to bring on someone who I said,
- 23:54Speaker 1: we have the most unique relationship of most people I
- 23:57Speaker 1: know from this whole franchise, especially if they were on
- 23:59Speaker 1: the same season together, which was Um, Julie was on
- 24:03Speaker 1: my season and she was she was, uh, someone who
- 24:07Speaker 1: I hardly got to talk to the first time. I
- 24:09Speaker 1: think you talked to my mom actually more than you. Yeah,
- 24:13Speaker 1: I didn't get to talk to you hardly at all.
- 24:15Speaker 1: And I don't know if you know this part, but
- 24:16Speaker 1: I know I've told you this. But there was a
- 24:18Speaker 1: point in um, like, what would have been the next
- 24:22Speaker 1: I guess theoretically the next episode, but there was a
- 24:24Speaker 1: point where I went to the producers and I said,
- 24:26Speaker 1: you know, if I could have a golden robe or
- 24:29Speaker 1: something like, I loved it and I thought about it.
- 24:33Speaker 1: I'm like, I'd like to bring back Julie and Shay
- 24:36Speaker 1: because I never got to talk to was the firefighter,
- 24:38Speaker 1: and I'm like, I never got to talk to them
- 24:40Speaker 1: very much if I found them both attractive, and the
- 24:43Speaker 1: thirty seconds that I got to speak to each of them,
- 24:45Speaker 1: I was like having a nice conversation. And Julie, uh,
- 24:49Speaker 1: you know, Julie and I obviously she went home the
- 24:51Speaker 1: first night. We didn't get any more time together. And
- 24:54Speaker 1: then randomly a few years later, I'm at the Kentucky Derby,
- 24:58Speaker 1: which has become, uh ah an annual thing, and uh
- 25:04Speaker 1: the one of the first people I'm sitting there with
- 25:07Speaker 1: is Julie Smith. And Julie's from Louisville, and Julie is
- 25:11Speaker 1: a you know, she's always done the red carpet stuff there.
- 25:14Speaker 1: She does a ton of interviews there. She's been on
- 25:16Speaker 1: a couple of the TV shows there before she relocated,
- 25:19Speaker 1: which I'll let her tell our own story there. But
- 25:21Speaker 1: she became one of my favorite people in the world.
- 25:23Speaker 1: And I love, I love our friendship. I love I
- 25:25Speaker 1: love who you are, and I love how our friendship
- 25:27Speaker 1: has grown over twenty years to be you know, I
- 25:30Speaker 1: mean we we actually might be next to Tristan Ryan,
- 25:34Speaker 1: the longest relationship to come out of that. I don't
- 25:36Speaker 1: know that's a good point. I never thought about it
- 25:38Speaker 1: that way, but you're right out. I didn't either until
- 25:41Speaker 1: I just said that. But remember Julie. Julie came up
- 25:44Speaker 1: to me one year. We we we knew this story,
- 25:47Speaker 1: but I don't think the new the newspapers anything new.
- 25:49Speaker 1: And Julie came up to me one year with Rose
- 25:51Speaker 1: remember you and well, okay, hold on so well boy,
- 25:57Speaker 1: Well no, I hadn't. I think I know what you're
- 25:59Speaker 1: talking about. Your talking about. It was at a gifting suite, right,
- 26:02Speaker 1: we got But here's what I before that, even I
- 26:06Speaker 1: don't know if you remember, but the very first time
- 26:09Speaker 1: after the whole Bachelor and a few years later at
- 26:12Speaker 1: the Derby, the first time we even spoke, reconnected and
- 26:15Speaker 1: really got introduced properly. Um. We were actually at the
- 26:20Speaker 1: track at Churchill Downs and I forget what hubbub was
- 26:23Speaker 1: going on. But for those who don't know, the Kentucky
- 26:27Speaker 1: Derby is also called the Run for the Roses. The
- 26:29Speaker 1: winning horse gets a huge, beautiful rose garland. So if
- 26:32Speaker 1: you go to Louisville, anywhere you are, there's just a
- 26:35Speaker 1: giant bouquet of red roses everywhere everywhere, So they're all
- 26:38Speaker 1: over the place. So the first time we met, actually
- 26:41Speaker 1: Bob just yanks one of them out of one of
- 26:44Speaker 1: these decorations and he walks up behind me. He said,
- 26:48Speaker 1: I think I owed you this time spoke. I loved it,
- 26:54Speaker 1: and it was and it was true because you know,
- 26:56Speaker 1: I mean, I think at the end of the day,
- 26:58Speaker 1: I think we've proven you and I we've always gotten
- 27:00Speaker 1: along great. And yeah, it's such a bummer we didn't
- 27:03Speaker 1: get to me. But that's a prime example of you know,
- 27:05Speaker 1: we're just that. I were talking about some of the
- 27:06Speaker 1: pressures you feel when you're the bachelor person, like when
- 27:09Speaker 1: she has a bachelor me as a bachelor, Um, it's like,
- 27:12Speaker 1: oh my god, what if I missed that person? What
- 27:14Speaker 1: if I didn't get to talk to the person that's
- 27:16Speaker 1: the right person, you know, And it's crazy because you
- 27:18Speaker 1: go through that experience and you literally live with so
- 27:20Speaker 1: much self doubt, especially in the early episodes, because you
- 27:23Speaker 1: don't know anything right. It's like, well, and it was
- 27:26Speaker 1: season four, so not only was the episode one, but
- 27:28Speaker 1: the whole thing was still so new, and you know,
- 27:31Speaker 1: I feel like somebody can go on that show now
- 27:33Speaker 1: and they have so much content to research. You know.
- 27:37Speaker 1: The most research I did was to watch the previous
- 27:39Speaker 1: season to see what to pack to where. Yeah? Really right? No? Yeah,
- 27:46Speaker 1: So how was your experience on the show? Did you
- 27:50Speaker 1: tell us about tell us about your experience? Well, Um,
- 27:53Speaker 1: and Bob, we've told told these stories a hundred times,
- 27:56Speaker 1: but sometimes something new may pop up. But for me,
- 27:59Speaker 1: it was definitely one of those. I literally tripped and
- 28:02Speaker 1: fell into it. They at the time. I don't know
- 28:05Speaker 1: how long they did this, but you know, they always
- 28:07Speaker 1: had people from across the country sending in at that time, Bob,
- 28:11Speaker 1: during our season it was VHS tapes. Oh yeah, what
- 28:17Speaker 1: I'm talking But I used to do that, but they
- 28:22Speaker 1: had all that, but they used to take something called
- 28:24Speaker 1: the love Bus around the country. Were you all aware
- 28:26Speaker 1: of this? I knew that they went to different places,
- 28:29Speaker 1: but I didn't know It had a name the Love Bus.
- 28:32Speaker 1: For real. There was a giant tricked out like van
- 28:36Speaker 1: and these do you all remember Duran oh fear, I
- 28:39Speaker 1: think it's how you say he was. Yeah, he was
- 28:42Speaker 1: one of the casting guys. And long story short, they
- 28:45Speaker 1: drove this thing around the country and what they told
- 28:48Speaker 1: me was they wanted to When they came to Louisville, Kentucky,
- 28:51Speaker 1: they had started to try to get a little more
- 28:53Speaker 1: into Middle America and the South. They were they had
- 28:56Speaker 1: exhausted the beach towns and the big cities and they
- 28:59Speaker 1: wanted quite unquote more real. Um. Not to say that
- 29:03Speaker 1: others aren't, but that's what they were getting at. But
- 29:04Speaker 1: anyway I stumbled into it. I wasn't going to this
- 29:08Speaker 1: giant cattle call. I was out celebrating a birthday with
- 29:11Speaker 1: a friend and those guys were at the same bar
- 29:14Speaker 1: having a drink, and so many women had clamored around them.
- 29:17Speaker 1: When they found out who they were, they said, hey,
- 29:20Speaker 1: let's let's turn the lights on and turn the cameras
- 29:22Speaker 1: on now and start doing something that's actually know what
- 29:26Speaker 1: I do remember you telling me that they did that
- 29:28Speaker 1: when you were out, and that is crazy. That is
- 29:31Speaker 1: so funny. I'm convinced that what sort of I guess
- 29:35Speaker 1: grabbed the producers and is because I wasn't there to
- 29:38Speaker 1: audition or to answer the right questions. I was celebrating birthday,
- 29:42Speaker 1: so I was a good two glasses of wine in
- 29:45Speaker 1: by the time they set the camera on me. Yeah,
- 29:50Speaker 1: which I think is what they thought they were going
- 29:52Speaker 1: to continue to get throughout. And I'm so sad they didn't.
- 29:58Speaker 1: So you didn't, did Bob's send you home? And I'm sorry, Bob.
- 30:01Speaker 1: I know this probably breaks your heart, but he sent
- 30:03Speaker 1: you home the first night, right he did? And he's right.
- 30:06Speaker 1: We barely got to talk. I remember walking down some
- 30:09Speaker 1: little pathway and before they send somebody in, I was
- 30:12Speaker 1: gonna someone interrupted us. Yeah, I remember, Am I allowed
- 30:16Speaker 1: to spill beans? Here? Is that? Okay? Exactly? Put that
- 30:23Speaker 1: thing back up again. But yeah, they definitely are coming up.
- 30:27Speaker 1: Have you talked to Bob yet? No? Not yet. He's talking.
- 30:30Speaker 1: Is someone we'll go interrupt that? I said, I don't
- 30:33Speaker 1: really want to do that. That's not what I would
- 30:35Speaker 1: normally do. And they nudge and they said, well, okay,
- 30:37Speaker 1: you know it's on you. You You might you know that
- 30:39Speaker 1: kind of thing. So someone interrupted us. But I just remember, Um,
- 30:45Speaker 1: I mean, I was having a great time the little
- 30:47Speaker 1: cocktail party. The girls were so great. Kelly Joe's coming
- 30:50Speaker 1: on after me. I spent of my time laughing at her.
- 30:54Speaker 1: She just I mean, just listening to her laugh made
- 30:57Speaker 1: me laugh. So I was happy the best. But Bob
- 31:00Speaker 1: was just a flash, like I barely saw him. Um,
- 31:03Speaker 1: and I did I think our episode one you catch
- 31:06Speaker 1: me something really cheesy? I think I said. Your mom
- 31:09Speaker 1: asked me how do I like the Midwest? And I
- 31:12Speaker 1: said something about being a whimp in the cold, but
- 31:14Speaker 1: I can handle it. Yes, I remember, yes, right An,
- 31:21Speaker 1: It's what I would have said, right, RELI I did,
- 31:24Speaker 1: like I think you might have gone out the night
- 31:26Speaker 1: before partying because you your voice was a little h
- 31:31Speaker 1: I didn't. So you've seen that link that just went out,
- 31:33Speaker 1: didn't you know? You told that Lindsey put that out there.
- 31:37Speaker 1: But Trista and I we got a little summary to watch,
- 31:40Speaker 1: you know, just to remind usel and your voice sounds
- 31:43Speaker 1: it totally different, messed. I have a good, good, very
- 31:46Speaker 1: good point. I don't know at that time very likely,
- 31:49Speaker 1: I mean we had been but they have us on lockdown.
- 31:51Speaker 1: You know, basically quar so I know it was not
- 31:55Speaker 1: to say it wouldn't have brought you wine if you
- 31:57Speaker 1: if you asked, you know for sure. I was really
- 32:03Speaker 1: hoarse though. Yeah that's when I watched it back, I
- 32:05Speaker 1: win what was wrong with me? But you know that
- 32:08Speaker 1: could have been left over from a few days prior
- 32:10Speaker 1: in Louisville, because I had the time and energy to
- 32:13Speaker 1: be a responsible adult during the week of my full
- 32:16Speaker 1: time job and had time and energy on the weekend.
- 32:21Speaker 1: So what does your life look like now you're obviously
- 32:24Speaker 1: a TV host? Yeah, and that didn't happen for a
- 32:27Speaker 1: few years later. So at the time I'm trying to
- 32:29Speaker 1: I think they had sales representatives down, which I was. Um,
- 32:33Speaker 1: I was in pharmaceutical sales at the time that we
- 32:36Speaker 1: filmed A Bachelor, and um, a few years later, things
- 32:40Speaker 1: just very slowly. It was like a slow drip. So
- 32:42Speaker 1: you go back home, of course, and everybody's very excited
- 32:45Speaker 1: the girl I was on the Bachelor and you're and
- 32:47Speaker 1: I'm still very um, not weirded out, but it was
- 32:51Speaker 1: just I was like, if they only knew how normal this.
- 32:55Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, I was on the Bachelor, but outside
- 32:57Speaker 1: of that, you and I are exactly the same. But
- 32:59Speaker 1: it was came because I enjoyed people so much. So
- 33:02Speaker 1: I loved chatting it up with new people and that,
- 33:05Speaker 1: and that went on for a while, and then so
- 33:07Speaker 1: I was asked to um be a guest on a
- 33:10Speaker 1: local talk show to promote a charity event. I think
- 33:14Speaker 1: it was a different one than Bob and I met
- 33:16Speaker 1: at But I went on that show as a guest
- 33:18Speaker 1: and had a blast. And again I'm in sales at
- 33:21Speaker 1: the time, but it was one of those things people
- 33:23Speaker 1: always asked me, have you ever considered news or hosting?
- 33:26Speaker 1: And I don't know. That wasn't my you know what
- 33:29Speaker 1: I studied. And this host calls me back a week
- 33:33Speaker 1: later and says, have you ever thought about two in this?
- 33:35Speaker 1: And I said, all right, what's going on here? There's
- 33:37Speaker 1: something I need to look into. And before I knew it,
- 33:39Speaker 1: I was as co host on a one hour talk show.
- 33:43Speaker 1: No experience, I mean, no problem talking clearly, the red
- 33:49Speaker 1: carpet interviews and everything else. And then you know, Julie's
- 33:53Speaker 1: gonna sell this short. But she's she really is a
- 33:56Speaker 1: go getter, and she put together her stuff and started networking,
- 34:00Speaker 1: and but it was always pretty organic, and then she
- 34:03Speaker 1: ended up landing a huge job. I mean you had
- 34:06Speaker 1: to relocate and everything. Yeah, I was. I spent three
- 34:09Speaker 1: years out in l A and didn't even know until
- 34:11Speaker 1: halfway through my time there that Bob lived down. I
- 34:14Speaker 1: mean we were friends at this point, I just didn't
- 34:15Speaker 1: know where we would we would we would see each
- 34:18Speaker 1: other every year in Louisville to Derby and and then
- 34:20Speaker 1: then we find out we were like literally three miles
- 34:22Speaker 1: away from my shop from each other. I've got crazy.
- 34:26Speaker 1: That's what you call busy, busy lives. I was like
- 34:28Speaker 1: my Julie so like she was loved for us to
- 34:31Speaker 1: get together. You know, it's just call hello by the way,
- 34:34Speaker 1: and congratulations to both of you. I'm just I can
- 34:37Speaker 1: go down that rabbit hole. I'll give you a call
- 34:39Speaker 1: later talk about all that. But I thank you so much.
- 34:42Speaker 1: I've seen the pictures and just cute. Thank you do
- 34:47Speaker 1: we love you. Thank you so much for coming on
- 34:49Speaker 1: the show, Thanks for talking to us. Um you know
- 34:51Speaker 1: Julie Smith the Golden Rods that got away. Thanks but
- 34:57Speaker 1: it's prayed that for every year. Now, that's right, that's right,
- 35:02Speaker 1: that's right. I love you. Great to meet each other stuff.
- 35:05Speaker 1: Nice to meet you, Thanks so much for joining us.
- 35:08Speaker 1: Kelly Joe. Is it she great? Oh my gosh, she's awesome.
- 35:16Speaker 1: Oh my gosh. And now I you know, we we
- 35:20Speaker 1: saw each other I think the first year after the
- 35:23Speaker 1: show at Derby and then and then I might have
- 35:27Speaker 1: gone another time, so maybe two times. But gosh, I
- 35:30Speaker 1: need to get back there. I know how much fun
- 35:32Speaker 1: that is and I know how much you love it. Well,
- 35:35Speaker 1: it falls on my birthday every year, so it's like
- 35:36Speaker 1: a it's like a milestone for me and natural you know,
- 35:39Speaker 1: um started, uh, you know, this group of friends with
- 35:43Speaker 1: which Julia is a part of, and we just started,
- 35:45Speaker 1: you know, spending this time together and now has become
- 35:47Speaker 1: like a family and so I love it. Yeah, it's
- 35:50Speaker 1: so nice. So it's been a lot of fun over
- 35:52Speaker 1: the years. And obviously, you know, The Bachelor helped create
- 35:55Speaker 1: a really wonderful friendship there. So isn't that that's true? Yes? Yeah, okay,
- 36:09Speaker 1: so next I'm so excited to talk to her. It's
- 36:13Speaker 1: but well, we're friends on Facebook still. I think we
- 36:16Speaker 1: connected at one of those one a reunion or something. Um,
- 36:20Speaker 1: but I'm so excited. She mentioned Kelly Joe and if
- 36:24Speaker 1: you all, if you all go back and watch Bob's
- 36:27Speaker 1: first episode. Kelly Joe is not hard to distinguish. She's
- 36:31Speaker 1: the one with the laugh. She there, she is, Oh
- 36:34Speaker 1: my god, you're getting your hair on. She's getting your
- 36:37Speaker 1: hair and she's like, I'll do this, but I'm not
- 36:39Speaker 1: going to cancel my appointment. No, I have a best
- 36:43Speaker 1: friend's wedding where I have to look really good. You
- 36:45Speaker 1: guys so amazing. I cannot believe you have soils in
- 36:54Speaker 1: your hair. Of course you have oils in your air. Hey,
- 36:58Speaker 1: you want me, I shall up look at that. Kelly Joe.
- 37:05Speaker 1: Julie Smith was just on with us and she was
- 37:07Speaker 1: sending her love her so much and Kelly. So yesterday
- 37:12Speaker 1: I reached out to Kelly Joe and we're, you know,
- 37:14Speaker 1: just kind of chatting and tell you. I was like,
- 37:16Speaker 1: well listen, I mean, I'll come on, but I've got
- 37:18Speaker 1: a hair appointment and uh so you know, and I'm like, well,
- 37:20Speaker 1: then take your cell phone, don't take your laptop and
- 37:22Speaker 1: be too cumbersome. She's like, you got that, yes, um,
- 37:25Speaker 1: And did you tell anyone else how you came up
- 37:28Speaker 1: on my phone? I did not. I was gonna save
- 37:30Speaker 1: that for you tell me this is so funny. You
- 37:33Speaker 1: guys so talk about O G kind of stuff. We
- 37:37Speaker 1: He messages me and he's like, Kelly, Joe, it's Bob
- 37:40Speaker 1: And I was like what his name came up as
- 37:45Speaker 1: Sarah be Guinea Montest, like full on pseudo name that
- 37:51Speaker 1: I probably was trying to hide back in the day.
- 37:54Speaker 1: If he texts me late night, no Joe, that is
- 37:58Speaker 1: his hysterical what's mon test for? It's almost very Briton,
- 38:04Speaker 1: I guess, But I don't know why Montest. I think
- 38:07Speaker 1: because I used to work at a Monster story back then.
- 38:10Speaker 1: I have no idea, honestly, no clue. But why would
- 38:14Speaker 1: I tell Sarah? And then it was Sarah. It didn't
- 38:18Speaker 1: even have an h I was Sarah without an age,
- 38:20Speaker 1: and I'm like, no, I think I would be Sarah
- 38:22Speaker 1: with an ah. But you look like you look like
- 38:26Speaker 1: you have an age. Just a little extra because if
- 38:34Speaker 1: we communicated it was now through social media and I
- 38:37Speaker 1: didn't even remember having his cell phone. Yeah, probably very
- 38:42Speaker 1: random because we've we've talked a couple of times over
- 38:44Speaker 1: the years. It's always been great, but it's always you're right.
- 38:46Speaker 1: It's always been through Facebook or Instagram, or whatever. So
- 38:52Speaker 1: so wait, what I need to know is, since you
- 38:55Speaker 1: have his phone number in there and you have like
- 38:57Speaker 1: a fake name for him, were you guys talking after
- 39:00Speaker 1: there's a show, like when you were with a Stella Bob. No,
- 39:03Speaker 1: I mean, okay, I don't think so. I mean I
- 39:06Speaker 1: don't think we chatted. I remember chatting. Well, when the
- 39:13Speaker 1: number you have for me is a wrong is not
- 39:15Speaker 1: the number I had? That? Oh that's weird. Well but
- 39:19Speaker 1: but okay, so during our season, how we had to
- 39:22Speaker 1: call each other, Ryan and I. They gave us a
- 39:25Speaker 1: number to call and then it patched us through. So
- 39:28Speaker 1: it was a fake number, like they were so scared
- 39:32Speaker 1: that you guys have because we had. Of course we did.
- 39:35Speaker 1: Oh yes, we had code names. Well yours with Sarah. Yeah,
- 39:39Speaker 1: yours was Sarah. I was Sarah b Montes apparently, yeah,
- 39:44Speaker 1: because that wasn't my phone number back then, so I
- 39:46Speaker 1: didn't have that. That was a number that they that
- 39:49Speaker 1: the producers gave you that it would patch you through
- 39:52Speaker 1: or whatever to want to connect. I remember talking to
- 39:57Speaker 1: Bob right after when they had original cast me as
- 40:00Speaker 1: the Bachelorette, and you were like, Kelly, you should do it.
- 40:04Speaker 1: This is it's worth it. And I was like, it's
- 40:06Speaker 1: worth it. They're not even gonna pay me, and you
- 40:09Speaker 1: were like, all right, we need to have the discussion.
- 40:12Speaker 1: I remember you helping me through like the thought process.
- 40:15Speaker 1: But then I think they did like a demo, a demographic, um,
- 40:19Speaker 1: and they did a poll and they didn't believe that
- 40:21Speaker 1: a twenty three year old could carry into having a relationship.
- 40:25Speaker 1: So that's when they cast Meredith. Yeah, and you guys
- 40:29Speaker 1: were friends. It looked like so when you watch we
- 40:33Speaker 1: watched this first episode, Uh, just look bananas, um, even
- 40:42Speaker 1: though mine looks crazy now, mine looked mine matched years, Bob.
- 40:46Speaker 1: I think that's why I kind of turned it together.
- 40:49Speaker 1: It was like the curly Jerry pearl. By the way,
- 40:54Speaker 1: mine wasn't an Ogilvie homeperm. That's all natch it all,
- 40:58Speaker 1: you know? I mean you who the friends going on
- 41:01Speaker 1: right here? We're all girlfriend for anyone. Um. So when
- 41:11Speaker 1: we when I watched the show, I had actually forgotten
- 41:15Speaker 1: that Meredith was on your season, Bob. And then and
- 41:18Speaker 1: then it all plicked. But you see you and Meredith
- 41:21Speaker 1: together a lot. Were you guys? Were you guys friends?
- 41:25Speaker 1: Like after the show, and how did you feel about
- 41:27Speaker 1: her becoming the bachelorette. So I loved Meredith. She was
- 41:31Speaker 1: my go to um. Early on in the kild they
- 41:34Speaker 1: did this crazy psychology thing where we had to vote
- 41:37Speaker 1: who was most likely to be with Bob and who
- 41:39Speaker 1: is most likely not to be, which was actually terrible.
- 41:42Speaker 1: There was tears and I was like what anyway, we
- 41:45Speaker 1: were all getting along and then all of a sudden
- 41:47Speaker 1: it was just this like gong show and I and
- 41:52Speaker 1: of course because we all got along, and they're like,
- 41:54Speaker 1: we gotta stir this up. So Meredith was I think,
- 41:58Speaker 1: on everyone's list, and her and I just became close.
- 42:00Speaker 1: She was like a big sister. Her her grandma died
- 42:04Speaker 1: on the show, and her and I would just because
- 42:07Speaker 1: I had lost my dad, so like we had like
- 42:09Speaker 1: a very similar loss, and we just would sit and
- 42:13Speaker 1: have some darts and lots and lots of Margarita's and
- 42:19Speaker 1: then her and I just became close. And then post
- 42:22Speaker 1: show we were super close to and we've chatted every
- 42:25Speaker 1: once in a while. I think she's gone through some
- 42:26Speaker 1: struggles up at ups and downs, but we still all talk. Yeah,
- 42:31Speaker 1: that's awesome. I always thought that about about the season
- 42:34Speaker 1: of the women that were on my season, trists that, like,
- 42:36Speaker 1: you know, you and I have talked a lot about
- 42:37Speaker 1: how the guys all got along, and I always thought
- 42:40Speaker 1: that same way, Like I was kind of weird about it. Anybody.
- 42:42Speaker 1: I was like, guys, please, don't you know, I don't
- 42:46Speaker 1: think that, you know, drama back here is going to
- 42:48Speaker 1: make anything happen over here, you know. But they didn't
- 42:50Speaker 1: need that because they were like that with themselves right away.
- 42:53Speaker 1: They were all very confident, very beautiful women. They all
- 42:55Speaker 1: got along great, and so I actually found that to
- 42:57Speaker 1: be such an attractive quality and all of you know
- 43:00Speaker 1: that they were yeah, yeah, right, Ah, we were a
- 43:04Speaker 1: good cast. And still to this day, we're on this
- 43:06Speaker 1: Facebook thread and we just joke around and we're like,
- 43:09Speaker 1: we still need a reunion because it would be so
- 43:11Speaker 1: much fun. I've been I've been just different that for
- 43:15Speaker 1: a while. I don't know if you guys, I feel
- 43:17Speaker 1: like they just put so many women against each other
- 43:22Speaker 1: on The Bachelor. Now that it's some men now too,
- 43:25Speaker 1: and men now too, Yeah, I would actually say the men.
- 43:27Speaker 1: It feels like the men are worse than the women. Frankly,
- 43:30Speaker 1: like when you watch The Bachelorette. Now, I feel like
- 43:32Speaker 1: those guys come in for blood, and it's like, yeah,
- 43:35Speaker 1: I mean, I do, I do agree with you guys.
- 43:37Speaker 1: It does seem like the women definitely are a lot
- 43:39Speaker 1: more aggressive with each other, but the guys it is crazy.
- 43:43Speaker 1: I mean, I don't we were such good friends on
- 43:46Speaker 1: your show. It was like, and I felt at last
- 43:48Speaker 1: about so many of the girls on my show too,
- 43:49Speaker 1: So it's like, you know, I liked it better in
- 43:51Speaker 1: that regard. I think that it's naturally gonna create some stuff,
- 43:55Speaker 1: but you know, I just wish it wasn't like like
- 43:59Speaker 1: going after each other and your character and and that
- 44:02Speaker 1: sort of thing. Like there's always going to be drama
- 44:06Speaker 1: in some way, shape or form when you put that
- 44:08Speaker 1: many people together and they're you know, vying for the
- 44:11Speaker 1: attention of one person. But I just feel like I
- 44:16Speaker 1: would love for it to not be so yucky to watch,
- 44:19Speaker 1: you know, like just makes me feel yucky, you feel
- 44:23Speaker 1: like exactly, And I can't because it's the train wreck,
- 44:28Speaker 1: you know that you want to watch, and and I
- 44:31Speaker 1: feel kind of maternal towards these people, And I'm like, well,
- 44:34Speaker 1: why are you saying this about your sister? You know, well, Kelly,
- 44:39Speaker 1: now you you obviously you have family, tell us about
- 44:42Speaker 1: tell us about everything you're doing. I live in Canada
- 44:45Speaker 1: with a super hot Canadian and player used to be
- 44:51Speaker 1: he's just old and grizzled now so he stomp it. Yeah,
- 44:55Speaker 1: so I mean I'll still take that. But yeah, So
- 45:00Speaker 1: I have two wonderful girls, fifteen and thirteen in the
- 45:03Speaker 1: thick of teen years. Tristan, I'm sure you know you're
- 45:06Speaker 1: right there with you. We're at the same ages. We're
- 45:10Speaker 1: like almost are you older boy? Younger girls? Oh you
- 45:15Speaker 1: have two girls? Um? Yes, so we're almost almost fifteen
- 45:19Speaker 1: in July and thirteen. I'm like literally right in it
- 45:22Speaker 1: with you. And I don't know if your girls play hockey,
- 45:24Speaker 1: but my son plays hockey, so I yes, my youngest
- 45:27Speaker 1: play hockey, and my oldest plays volleyball like I did.
- 45:31Speaker 1: And she's way taller than I ever was, so I'm
- 45:33Speaker 1: living through her. So yeah, it's good. Um, I get
- 45:37Speaker 1: to go back to the States, as I said, my
- 45:39Speaker 1: best friends getting married, so I get to go to
- 45:41Speaker 1: Chicago next week, which will be so fun. And yeah,
- 45:45Speaker 1: I guess I've seen my mom who's in Florida, and
- 45:47Speaker 1: I haven't seen her in ages, so things are good.
- 45:50Speaker 1: I've been very, very blessed since the Bachelor. Well, please
- 45:54Speaker 1: tell your mom, I said, Hi, it's been at gotten
- 45:57Speaker 1: to see her. That was such a fun time visiting
- 45:59Speaker 1: with your family in Chicago. I remember it very fondly.
- 46:02Speaker 1: So I think that my family like jumped on you.
- 46:06Speaker 1: They did. I think, you know how they do, like
- 46:09Speaker 1: the running hug that they do now, I think my
- 46:12Speaker 1: family did that to Bob. Oh. We need we need
- 46:17Speaker 1: to pull that up. Guys listening to this, we need that.
- 46:22Speaker 1: That's amazing. Okay, So wait, so how long did Kelly
- 46:27Speaker 1: Joe last? You lasted too? Was to the very end? Yeah?
- 46:30Speaker 1: It was Kelly Joe Ana Stella where the final two.
- 46:32Speaker 1: In fact, however, much was made of Kelly Joe and
- 46:37Speaker 1: I are holding hands like this, and I say, you know,
- 46:40Speaker 1: however in Kelly jogas yes. So I got out of
- 46:47Speaker 1: oh she I mean, and then I was like, fine,
- 46:53Speaker 1: care if I walked her to the car. She's like, yeah,
- 46:56Speaker 1: that's what you want to do. I mean, it doesn't
- 46:57Speaker 1: matter to me. It was pretty awesome, very you know,
- 47:00Speaker 1: and very Kelly Joe fashion. Though it was like, you know, okay,
- 47:05Speaker 1: all right, you made your you made your bed. See
- 47:07Speaker 1: any buddy, you know, and I thought that was I mean,
- 47:10Speaker 1: looking back, looking back at it twenty years later, I'm like,
- 47:13Speaker 1: well done, good play. Yeah, well you know what it
- 47:19Speaker 1: led to your life? Like I always think thank God
- 47:22Speaker 1: for Alex Michelle and that he did not choose me,
- 47:25Speaker 1: because I would never have gone on to me Ryan.
- 47:28Speaker 1: So I'm sure you feel the same way. Yeah, were amen,
- 47:34Speaker 1: And it's great that we get to still remain friends.
- 47:35Speaker 1: I mean, that's what's so nice about it, so many
- 47:37Speaker 1: years later, you know. So it's awesome having you on.
- 47:40Speaker 1: Thank you for joining us in the midst of your
- 47:42Speaker 1: hair treatment. Don't worry, I'll send you, guys a post
- 47:45Speaker 1: or you don't think I'm as scary as I am
- 47:47Speaker 1: right now, send us to send us an astro photo. Okay,
- 47:51Speaker 1: thanks for having me on, guys, Thank you anytime. Awesome.
- 47:55Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, that was awesome. Isn't she funny? I
- 47:57Speaker 1: love that she comes with didn't foil in her hair.
- 48:01Speaker 1: That's so good. But you know, it's so funny. So
- 48:06Speaker 1: so Kelly, Joe and I reconnected years later, um through
- 48:10Speaker 1: my wife actually really yeah. So so Kenyon had opened
- 48:15Speaker 1: a facility in Vegas with her company that she worked
- 48:18Speaker 1: with in l A, Miami, New York and all this
- 48:20Speaker 1: stuff and Um and Kelly Joe had reached out to me. Um,
- 48:24Speaker 1: I forget if it was like your Facebook or something,
- 48:26Speaker 1: and it was just like, you know, I know you're
- 48:27Speaker 1: still doing all this kind of entertainment stuff. You know,
- 48:30Speaker 1: do you have any you know, friends that could do
- 48:32Speaker 1: this or this? So I called my wife and I'm like,
- 48:34Speaker 1: could you help me with this because I wouldn't know
- 48:36Speaker 1: who to call. And my wife set it all up,
- 48:38Speaker 1: set it up, and it was really fun, and Kelly
- 48:40Speaker 1: Joe was really awesome about it. She's like, thank you
- 48:42Speaker 1: so much. I'm like, well, you actually have to think
- 48:44Speaker 1: my wife. I had nothing to do with it, you know.
- 48:48Speaker 1: And so it's kind of one of those things, you know,
- 48:50Speaker 1: It's it's really nice, Um, to have these people in
- 48:53Speaker 1: your life that you know, you have this kind of
- 48:55Speaker 1: long history with and you pick up ten fifteen years
- 48:58Speaker 1: later and you know you can just be like, yeah,
- 49:01Speaker 1: it wasn't that an awesome time in our lives? You know?
- 49:03Speaker 1: I see you have you have such a beautiful family
- 49:05Speaker 1: and kids. It's so great. It's not weird, it's not
- 49:08Speaker 1: you know, awkward, it's just nice. And I think, um,
- 49:12Speaker 1: that's got that's got to come from the advice that
- 49:15Speaker 1: Trista gave me actually when when I was going to
- 49:17Speaker 1: be a bachelor, and this was something I took very seriously,
- 49:19Speaker 1: where you were like, you know, just be honest, just
- 49:22Speaker 1: be as forthcoming as you can and just and so
- 49:24Speaker 1: I tried, you know, even when it didn't work out,
- 49:27Speaker 1: you know, so great. I tried to be like, hey, look,
- 49:30Speaker 1: this is it, you know, I hope it's okay, you know.
- 49:32Speaker 1: And obviously it didn't work out for me on the
- 49:35Speaker 1: Bachelor of the way that it worked out for you on,
- 49:38Speaker 1: but still an awesome experience and a lot of fun
- 49:40Speaker 1: and clearly a lot of lifelong friendships that have come
- 49:43Speaker 1: out of it which have been pretty amazing. Yeah, including
- 49:47Speaker 1: you for me, Bob. Again, this was so much fun.
- 49:50Speaker 1: Love it and I hope that all of you out
- 49:53Speaker 1: there are enjoying listening. I know Ashley and Ben cannot
- 49:58Speaker 1: really be replaced, but we hope that we're just a
- 50:00Speaker 1: little you know, extra and a different wrinkle and don't
- 50:03Speaker 1: use the word wrinkle, you know about my face now
- 50:06Speaker 1: with a fifty year old woman almost yeah, one year
- 50:10Speaker 1: old man Oh my lord, Yeah, I feel every inch
- 50:14Speaker 1: of it. In fact, you know, I was gonna say,
- 50:15Speaker 1: I want to I I mentioned this the other day, um,
- 50:18Speaker 1: texting with you, but I was thinking about like where
- 50:21Speaker 1: my life was and where your life was when we
- 50:22Speaker 1: were on these shows, which is twenty years ago this year,
- 50:25Speaker 1: I guess, and where they are today, and um, you
- 50:28Speaker 1: know I always teasingly say that, you know, Trista gets
- 50:30Speaker 1: ready for her time on the radio with her glam
- 50:32Speaker 1: squad doing her hair and makeup and getting her all that,
- 50:35Speaker 1: you know, But our lives are so it's so interesting
- 50:37Speaker 1: because I'll still run too people and they you know,
- 50:40Speaker 1: what are you doing at Kroger? I'm like, uh, guys,
- 50:44Speaker 1: you handed out flowers twenty years ago. Still need to
- 50:46Speaker 1: eat chicken? You know, it happens. I need some cereal, um,
- 50:50Speaker 1: you know, or whatever it might be. So it's kind
- 50:52Speaker 1: of funny. So I would love for us to kind
- 50:54Speaker 1: of talk a little bit about that on our next
- 50:56Speaker 1: show too, because I do think it's a lot of fun.
- 50:58Speaker 1: The the what did I say on the thing? The
- 51:03Speaker 1: versus g there you go o versus our real life
- 51:07Speaker 1: versus Instagram, which versus our real life versus real life. Yeah.
- 51:15Speaker 1: I mean I think that Ashley and Ben actually do
- 51:18Speaker 1: a really good job of talking about this, Like Ashley
- 51:21Speaker 1: shows up feeding the baby, you know, like Ben's got
- 51:25Speaker 1: you know, the dog barking in the background. Whatever. I
- 51:28Speaker 1: think that they're really good at at showing everyone real life.
- 51:33Speaker 1: So I I'm all all about talking about reality, the
- 51:39Speaker 1: reality away from Reality TV. Maybe maybe next episode, maybe
- 51:44Speaker 1: two episodes. We'll see. You have to tune in to
- 51:46Speaker 1: see when we come back with the almost famous podcast.
- 51:55Speaker 1: Thank you Trista, Thanks Bob, See you guys later. Guys
