- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Hey my friend, welcome to the Daily Writer, where we help writers become authors of their own lives.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: Let me see if you recognize this song lyric.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the jungle.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: It gets worse here every day.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: Well, if you're a fan of 80s rock and roll like I am, you're going to recognize that lyric from the song Welcome to the Jungle by Guns N' Roses, with, of course, Axl Rose as the lead singer.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: Now, whatever Axl Rose may lack in subtlety, he definitely made up for by tapping into a sentiment that a lot of people feel today.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: Everywhere you look on social media, people are decrying the state of things, and they feel like it gets worse out there every day.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: Now, for writers in particular, you constantly hear things like this on social media.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: It's harder than ever to find clients.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: Or the big AI and tech companies are swallowing up everything.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: Or they may say, I have a love-hate relationship with social media, mostly hate.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: Or they may say something like, There's so much competition out there than there used to be.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: Or as they say, it's a jungle out there.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: Now, while I do acknowledge that we have some unique challenges today, I want you to also consider the incredible opportunities that we also have, such as it's easier than ever before to get your work published, or that it's easier than ever to connect with virtually anybody in the world with the device that you have in your pocket, also known as a cell phone.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: Or that it's easier than ever to create great books through the power of dictation and editing tools and apps and the technology that's often free or very expensive.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: Or consider that it's easier than ever to get the word out there about your writing and services through social media, through an email list, or just through your personal connections.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: Now, maybe you think of the jungle, quote unquote, in other words, life as we know it right now.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: Maybe you think of the jungle as this dangerous place that's full of threats and anxiety and all sorts of stress.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: But remember, the jungle is also a place where life is thriving.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: In a jungle, there's always something exciting happening and there's never a dull moment.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: There's always an opportunity for discovery and adventure around every corner.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: You know, way back in 1859, a long, long time ago, Charles Dickens wrote, It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: But I think he was only half right because for people who want to take advantage of all the opportunities we have today, it can indeed be the best of times.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: So, welcome to the jungle.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: Thanks for listening.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: Keep writing, keep showing up, and I'll see you tomorrow.
