- 0:02Melinda Lee: Welcome to another episode of The Speak In Flow
- 0:12Podcast. Today we are going to delve into mastering your
- 0:23communication by eliminating filler words. So you can have
- 0:35more impact, we all strive to be an effective communicator. I
- 0:47mean, that's why we're here. And yet sometimes of filler words,
- 1:00they're pesky, they, they just come in, out of the blue, and
- 1:12sometimes we don't even realise it. It's the filler words such
- 1:25as you know, so I'm, like, Ah, so on so forth. They just come
- 1:37in. And what we don't realise is that it does diminish our
- 1:49message when we have too much. I mean, generally, they're
- 2:00relatively harmless. If you have a couple here and there is
- 2:12totally fine. It's more about connecting with your audience,
- 2:24with your heart, and with your passion. However, if you are,
- 2:37have too many of them, that means you're not as connected to
- 2:49your message, and you're just doubtful, and your message can
- 3:01become unclear. And then people start noticing the filler words
- 3:14more than your message. So how do we eliminate those filler
- 3:26words and speak with more confidence speak with more
- 3:29And so when you're talking, you can have key points. But then
- 3:34really just trusting your intuition trusting your voice.
- 3:36influence? The first step is we want to be aware, yes, you want
- 3:38And that will allow you to come in with more confidence to be
- 3:43the authentic you. Because what is happening is when you are
- 3:47talking from a script, and you're memorising it word for
- 3:49to be mindful of it? And no, I'm not going to have you count
- 3:51word, you're actually in your head, meaning you're thinking
- 3:56about what to say you're thinking about the next word.
- 4:00And when you're thinking and in your mind, you might also wander
- 4:01them. Sometimes there have been strategies, or sometimes people
- 4:05off to am I saying the right thing? Is that word Correct? Or
- 4:09what are they, you know, thinking about me? Am I being
- 4:13judged? So all of these thoughts are in your head. Great speakers
- 4:14will say, Hey, you, you want to count the filler words, and the
- 4:18come from a full embodiment. Mind, body, soul, your whole
- 4:23passion, you everything about you is in it's all in not just
- 4:26less words filler words that you use the treat, you know, treat
- 4:27your mind, right? So you want to come in with your heart, your
- 4:32mind, your soul, every part of you speak from that place.
- 4:36And when you're just speaking with us through a script that
- 4:39yourself, give yourself kudos. But you know, how many times
- 4:40doesn't feel like that you'll feel more robotic and so we want
- 4:44you to be natural. We want to to be okay with being in flow.
- 4:49Being in a flow state. When you're flowing, you're really
- 4:51have you paid attention to something, and then the more you
- 4:53not in your head. You're more in your heart. You're speaking from
- 4:57a more grounded place. You're trusting your voice, you're
- 5:01trusting that you know the stuff that whatever you say is going
- 5:03pay attention to something, the worse it gets, or you get real
- 5:06to be great. And that requires you to let go of the script. The
- 5:10script is a training wheel. And it's a crutch. So we want to let
- 5:15go of that idea that we have to be perfect. And just trusting
- 5:16frustrated? And and so my suggestion is actually
- 5:19that you can connect with that inner dial, inner strength of
- 5:23yourself. And that is when the filler words will leave. And
- 5:25contradictory of counting them. I do want you to be mindful. But
- 5:27when you're presenting, let's say you, you start to get
- 5:31nervous again, and the filler words start to happen.
- 5:35You go into a pause, that will allow you to gather yourself,
- 5:38I don't want you to be mindful of counting filler words, I want
- 5:40you will appear intentional to your audience. And that will
- 5:45slow your your voice down your pace down, and then the filler
- 5:50words disappear. When you're at a good pace, when you're
- 5:51you to be mindful of where you're at, like, where your
- 5:54comfortable with what you're saying. It feels thoughtful, and
- 5:59it feels like a good pace. And then the audience is able to
- 6:02centres at where your mind is that where your body's at? Are
- 6:04receive what you're saying the filler words just naturally
- 6:09disappear. They dissolve, they're gone, because you're
- 6:13just so confident and you feel confident you're in your body,
- 6:14you connected to your competence? Are you connected to
- 6:18in your intuition and using allowing the words just flow
- 6:23through you. And that is what a great speaker does. And that is
- 6:25the feeling of being confident inside, because what is
- 6:28when you can connect your words to your audience. That is when
- 6:33you can look at one person in the audience and truly connect
- 6:36happening, when you are using filler words, you're just
- 6:38to their eyes. And then look at another person in the audience
- 6:43and truly connect to the second person's eyes, and have a
- 6:47disconnected to that confidence, that internal dial of strength
- 6:48beautiful experience. When you're all connected. It's not
- 6:52about a performance. It's not about being perfect, and having
- 6:57all the specific beautiful, perfect language, because that's
- 7:00that everyone has, you have it, it's just a matter of
- 7:02not how we talk. We want people to speak, when you can feel
- 7:07connected to them, when you can keep feel connected to their
- 7:11remembering it again, and getting connected back to it.
- 7:12entire message because people will remember how you make them
- 7:17feel. And so when you are coming from your whole passion, every
- 7:22And so the more you practice, speaking from that place, and
- 7:22part of you trusting your words and trusting that you're
- 7:27connecting to the audience. That is what people feel, that is
- 7:32what people remember, your filler words will be either zero
- 7:34connecting to your heart connecting to with allowing the
- 7:37or limited or very few. And that is what it will take for you to
- 7:42speak with more confidence. So using the pauses using your
- 7:45words to flow, the less filler words will happen, they
- 7:47breath. And, and again, if you do want to continue being a
- 7:51powerful speaker, you should practice but not practising your
- 7:56naturally disappear because you are so dialled in with your
- 7:56script, practising connecting to your strength, practising
- 8:01speaking your presentation with just the key points and
- 8:06connecting to your strength connecting to the confidence
- 8:08message with the confident you. And one of the things that I
- 8:10that you feel inside and using your breath to take you there.
- 8:15So remember, having a clear communication requires that
- 8:20you're able to feel within yourself all the words and
- 8:20highly encourage you to do, to take a step forward in getting
- 8:24connecting with the audience. And that is going to help you
- 8:29skyrocket your presentations to be more compelling to make a
- 8:32connected to your strength is letting go of the script. That's
- 8:34more impact. Because you're able to connect with the audience
- 8:39captivate your audience, because you're free to be yourself.
- 8:44You're free to show your quirkiness to make a mistake.
- 8:45right, let go of the script. You don't want to go right out. You
- 8:48And that is okay. Because you're ultimately connected to the
- 8:53audience. And you can make a joke about it. You're flexible,
- 8:58can write it out word for word, but when you go to say it, I
- 8:58you're free. And that is what makes a great speaker. So if

- 9:22that you can you have all the right words.
- 9:22the filler words so you can speak with your confidence. Make
