- 0:10Speaker 1: Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark, a Hallmark review podcast. I'm Megan,
- 0:13Speaker 1: and I'm a longtime Hallmark fan. I'm Wendy. I'm a
- 0:16Speaker 1: former Homemark hater. On today's episode, we're continuing our deep
- 0:20Speaker 1: dive into Hallmark Hall of Fame Christmas movies with the
- 0:22Speaker 1: movie A Season for Miracles, which is now streaming on
- 0:27Speaker 1: Hallmark Plus and originally aired on December twelfth, nineteen ninety
- 0:32Speaker 1: nine on CBC Crazy. This is probably our deepest cut,
- 0:38Speaker 1: although I don't know actually when next week's will be aired.
- 0:40Speaker 1: I don't know either, but I don't even know what
- 0:42Speaker 1: next movie is. Next week's movie is yet. I think
- 0:45Speaker 1: it's something Thursday, December thir I don't know, it doesn't matter.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Head on over to Instagram where we are Girls Gone
- 0:53Speaker 1: Hallmark and give us a follow there so you always
- 0:55Speaker 1: know what episodes are coming up from us, especially when
- 0:59Speaker 1: we do these throwback movies in series, so you can
- 1:03Speaker 1: get them watched and listen along with us. Yeah.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Hey, we also would love your emails. Shoot us one
- 1:09Speaker 2: at hello at Girlsgone Hallmark dot com. I'm honestly unaware
- 1:15Speaker 2: of the feedback from our community this month.
- 1:18Speaker 1: I don't know if.
- 1:19Speaker 2: They are listening to these reviews, watching these movies.
- 1:23Speaker 1: I have no idea they are. They're listening along with us.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Do they like when we hit the Hallmark Hall of
- 1:30Speaker 2: Fame Christmas movies or not?
- 1:32Speaker 1: Let me read an email from Jamie. She says, just
- 1:35Speaker 1: listen to your Christmas Train episode. And now I have
- 1:37Speaker 1: anxiety about November Christmas, which is next week's episode. I
- 1:41Speaker 1: mentioned watching it. It's not very Christmas either. But Sam Elliott,
- 1:46Speaker 1: I love Sam Elliott. She goes on to say. Also,
- 1:48Speaker 1: when I was in fifth grade, my family of five
- 1:50Speaker 1: took a train from Chicago to Los Angeles. We had
- 1:53Speaker 1: two sleeper cars that they combined into one room. It
- 1:56Speaker 1: was tiny. My husband and I always take the train
- 1:59Speaker 1: when we go from Southwest Washington to Seattle. We love
- 2:02Speaker 1: it so much. But once we got stuck on the
- 2:05Speaker 1: tracks due to a wildfire.
- 2:07Speaker 2: Oh oh no, oh, I think that might be worse.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Than snow, She says. I'm sure none of this is
- 2:13Speaker 1: helping the cause. That's got to be worse than snow. Absolutely,
- 2:16Speaker 1: Oh my god. Finally, there is a Christmas train that
- 2:19Speaker 1: runs out of Hood River, Oregon, and one that runs
- 2:21Speaker 1: along the Oregon coast. Both are only an hour or so.
- 2:25Speaker 1: By the way, I've been to Hood River. I love
- 2:27Speaker 1: Hood River and I love the Oregon Coast.
- 2:29Speaker 2: We had family friends who have a home there, and
- 2:32Speaker 2: we went in the summertime and it was just spectacular.
- 2:36Speaker 2: I remember sitting in their living room and the windows
- 2:40Speaker 2: were open, and they have all these trees, and you
- 2:42Speaker 2: could hear the wind rustling through the trees and not
- 2:45Speaker 2: one other single noise.
- 2:47Speaker 1: It was just lovely. That's nice. It was lovely.
- 2:51Speaker 2: And they had this huge vegetable garden that you could
- 2:55Speaker 2: like walk through and have this picture of my daughter,
- 2:57Speaker 2: who was probably like six at the time. Holy, this
- 3:00Speaker 2: like huge cucumber that day. It's just this was really nice. Yeah,
- 3:04Speaker 2: that makes me sad.
- 3:05Speaker 1: She's going to college. Okay, Sunrise, Oh don't do it.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Let's hear a synopsis for a Season for Miracles. Forced

- 4:11Speaker 1: I saw on social media just announced a new project
- 4:13Speaker 1: she's in. Really I would tell you the name, but
- 4:16Speaker 1: I don't remember it.
- 4:17Speaker 2: I love her, guys, And if you didn't watch The
- 4:19Speaker 2: Twelve Dates of Christmas last year, watch Out a Homewark plus.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Y So Good, So Good.
- 4:25Speaker 2: Kathy Baker appears as a social worker Ruth. Kathy is
- 4:29Speaker 2: a three time Emmy winner for her role as Jill
- 4:33Speaker 2: on Picket Fences.
- 4:34Speaker 1: I can't remember if I ever watched Picket Fences? Did
- 4:37Speaker 1: you No?
- 4:39Speaker 2: It was a little like more mature than time. Yeah,
- 4:42Speaker 2: then I was like a teenager.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Is it air? Is it streaming.
- 4:45Speaker 2: I just I just gotta know my gos gotta do
- 4:48Speaker 2: do I need to watch it? I mean the director
- 4:51Speaker 2: when Emmy's for directing that show too, it's not streaming.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Really, goodbye it. That's not streaming, okay. Laura and appears
- 5:00Speaker 1: as Barry. The Oscar winning actress has starred in everything
- 5:03Speaker 1: from Jurassic Park to Big Little Lies and Marriage Story.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Patti Duke plays the Angel. The Oscar winning actress is
- 5:10Speaker 2: best remembered for The Miracle Worker and The Patty Duke Show.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Patty passed in twenty sixteen at the age of sixty nine.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Oh she was young. Lynn Redgrave appears as the Judge,
- 5:21Speaker 1: best known for her Oscar nominated performance in Georgie Girl.
- 5:24Speaker 1: She was also a celebrated stage and screen actress. Lynn
- 5:27Speaker 1: passed in twenty ten at the age of sixty seven.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Gone too soon. These actresses seed.
- 5:33Speaker 2: Tony Award winner Mary Louise Wilson appears as Karina. She's
- 5:38Speaker 2: one of the sister neighbors. Yes, she won a Tony
- 5:42Speaker 2: four originating the role of Little eighty in Broadway's Gray Gardens.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Mary Fogerty appears as Agatha. She enjoyed a long career
- 5:51Speaker 1: as a character actress, appearing in films like The War
- 5:54Speaker 1: of the Roses and Swing Kids. Listen to this note.
- 5:58Speaker 2: This film was a ratings hit, trying twenty two point
- 6:01Speaker 2: two million viewers and finishing as the week's second most
- 6:05Speaker 2: watch program behind Frasier. Wow twenty two point two million.
- 6:11Speaker 1: I mean numbers we would only dream of these days. Wow. Hey, Wendy,
- 6:16Speaker 1: what was your first impression of a season for miracles?
- 6:19Speaker 1: This movie had me asking one question, are we in
- 6:23Speaker 1: stars hollow? If you know? You know, I'm going to
- 6:27Speaker 1: talk about it, and my did you see that moment?
- 6:30Speaker 1: My first impression is a Courtner moment on Christmas Eve
- 6:32Speaker 1: might take the cake for eleventh hour Christmas event. I'm
- 6:36Speaker 1: rolling my eyes and me or at the fact that
- 6:39Speaker 1: they had a full judge ready to go on Christmas Eve.
- 6:43Speaker 1: That's it, We're going to talk about it. Tell me
- 6:45Speaker 1: what you liked about this movie.
- 6:46Speaker 2: I believe this is the strongest Hallmark Hall of Fame
- 6:49Speaker 2: Christmas movie we've covered this month, though we've complained about
- 6:53Speaker 2: it all month.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Not really Christmas Eve, no more Christmasy than some of
- 6:58Speaker 1: the others. But yes, what was last week's movie? The
- 7:01Speaker 1: Christmas Train. Oh yeah, yeah, on par with The Christmas
- 7:05Speaker 1: and The Christmas Dream.
- 7:06Speaker 2: I feel like it's just one of those movies where
- 7:08Speaker 2: like the movie unfolds during the season.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Yes, yes, but not everything is centered in and around Christmas.
- 7:15Speaker 2: Right, And I can't help now while watching these movies,
- 7:19Speaker 2: like if your husband watched this, would he hate it
- 7:21Speaker 2: because it's not like traditional Christmas in terms of Hallmark
- 7:26Speaker 2: Christmas movies.
- 7:27Speaker 1: If you watched this movie, I mean, and he's like,
- 7:29Speaker 1: it's not a Christmas movie. That's his take it. I
- 7:32Speaker 1: think that's accurate. It's not really a Christmas movie. Have
- 7:35Speaker 1: we been ruined for Christmas movies? Like because we watch
- 7:38Speaker 1: Hallmark Christmas and it's a Christmas Christmas Christmas. I'm trying
- 7:42Speaker 1: to think, what's a classic Christmas movie that's maybe not
- 7:46Speaker 1: all Christmas all the time. I couldn't love that. Actually,
- 7:50Speaker 1: I don't even want to talk about it. Similar vibes.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Yeah, but this movie. What I do like about it.
- 7:58Speaker 2: I do enjoy a story of redemption of second chances.
- 8:05Speaker 2: It's a weighty movie. Yes, I liked that you could
- 8:10Speaker 2: take Christmas fully out of it, and I think I'd
- 8:13Speaker 2: still would like it. Like in terms, yeah, it's Hallmark
- 8:17Speaker 2: Movies and miseries. Absolutely absolutely yes.
- 8:22Speaker 1: So let me tell you this, I have a really
- 8:24Speaker 1: long list of wishes about this movie. Okay, that being said,
- 8:27Speaker 1: I agree with you that it's the strongest that we've seen,
- 8:30Speaker 1: and I really enjoyed watching it, even though there are
- 8:33Speaker 1: things that I'm like, gonna pick a part about it.
- 8:38Speaker 1: I was like, somebody, you know, I love the sisters.
- 8:42Speaker 1: How they the neighbor sisters. How you know. Of course
- 8:47Speaker 1: it was a case of mistaken identity, but once they
- 8:50Speaker 1: discover who she is, they ride hard for Emily.
- 8:55Speaker 2: You know.
- 8:56Speaker 1: The lawyer comes in and he's like, well, where's the jewelry,
- 8:58Speaker 1: where's the silver? And they're like, right where you left it. Yeah,
- 9:01Speaker 1: we're on the right side of this. Yeah, she's not
- 9:04Speaker 1: a criminal. I mean, I know, I know, you know.
- 9:08Speaker 1: And that's the thing. It's this movie made me root
- 9:12Speaker 1: for her, even though I was kind of like, what
- 9:13Speaker 1: are you doing, Like you can't do this, and I
- 9:16Speaker 1: was nervous for her the entire time. Yeah, I was
- 9:19Speaker 1: rooting for her and rooting for these kids and happy
- 9:22Speaker 1: when these kids were getting to sleep in these warm
- 9:27Speaker 1: beds and getting these lovely experiences with people who loved
- 9:30Speaker 1: them and cared about them. And seeing a town rally around,
- 9:36Speaker 1: right you, yeah, and a rally around these kids. It
- 9:41Speaker 1: was kind of lovely.
- 9:42Speaker 2: It was kind of lovely, but I also have some wishes.
- 9:46Speaker 2: One of the things I really liked is Patty Duke's Angel.
- 9:49Speaker 2: This is how I like angels done in movies. I
- 9:52Speaker 2: was comparing it in my mind to Providence Falls. There's
- 9:57Speaker 2: the angel storyline in that and if you were were
- 10:00Speaker 2: that element, which I didn't like in that movie. But
- 10:03Speaker 2: it was like they would put them in and I'm
- 10:05Speaker 2: quoting like heaven or some sort of supernatural existence. That
- 10:12Speaker 2: was hard as a viewer for me to like buy into. Here,
- 10:15Speaker 2: we just have Patty Duke as the angel, just an
- 10:19Speaker 2: angel on earth.
- 10:20Speaker 1: She's just amongst the people, right existing as a waitress
- 10:23Speaker 1: or as a file clerk, just.
- 10:25Speaker 2: Opening the doors, pointing people in the right direction, giving
- 10:28Speaker 2: the r tender encouragement you need.
- 10:32Speaker 1: Yeah, it's it's like elements of magical realism to it.
- 10:35Speaker 2: And that's what I love. That was probably my favorite thing.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Instead of, like you said, like heavenly beings. Yeah, I'm
- 10:42Speaker 1: existing one another plane exactly. I am the world's biggest
- 10:48Speaker 1: fan of Baby May Whitmen. Have you seen the movie
- 10:51Speaker 1: one fine day? I mean a million years ago. I
- 10:53Speaker 1: haven't seen it a long time either. I have no
- 10:55Speaker 1: idea if it holds up. But when I think about
- 10:57Speaker 1: that movie, I think about two scenes. One is Michelle
- 11:00Speaker 1: Pfeiffer in the backseat of a cab putting her son's
- 11:02Speaker 1: dinosaur t shirt on and like fixing her eye makeup.
- 11:06Speaker 1: And the other is young May Whitman, who is maybe
- 11:10Speaker 1: all of four in that movie, under a table in
- 11:12Speaker 1: a shop with a kitten, and she's the cutest thing
- 11:15Speaker 1: I have ever seen. She's a little bit older than
- 11:18Speaker 1: that in this movie. She is an absolute star of
- 11:22Speaker 1: a child actor, I agree, who has transcended child acting
- 11:27Speaker 1: to becoming an absolute star as an adult, which is
- 11:30Speaker 1: a very rare thing. Agree, because a lot of kids
- 11:34Speaker 1: that are real cute and get by on just because
- 11:36Speaker 1: they're cute, uh huh, doesn't really. She's super talented. She's
- 11:41Speaker 1: incredibly talented. I loved her as this, I mean you
- 11:46Speaker 1: just felt for her. She was just this child who
- 11:49Speaker 1: was wise beyond her years because she had to be.
- 11:52Speaker 1: May Whitman was born as a forty year old yes right, yes,
- 11:57Speaker 1: and to me, she acts circles around the adult. Yeah,
- 12:01Speaker 1: she's really good. She's incredible. I'm so glad she. I mean,
- 12:05Speaker 1: this whole cast when they come on screen and you're like,
- 12:08Speaker 1: Laura durn what are you doing? Totally, I thought it
- 12:12Speaker 1: was great casting. I thought Laura dern as the you know,
- 12:16Speaker 1: drug addicts, hardened sister.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Which they didn't like shy away from.
- 12:20Speaker 1: No, that's kind of the thing that I like about
- 12:22Speaker 1: this movie that isn't in my notes. But they don't
- 12:26Speaker 1: really shy away from a lot of the hard topics,
- 12:28Speaker 1: Like they talk about how her mom was a drug
- 12:30Speaker 1: addict and she nearly overdosed, and the dangers of the
- 12:34Speaker 1: foster cares, not dangers, but the challenges of the foster
- 12:38Speaker 1: twenty twenty six Hallmark would never No, Never No, and
- 12:42Speaker 1: they really the sister, while not the perfect placement on paper,
- 12:48Speaker 1: was clearly the best choice for these kids and had
- 12:51Speaker 1: to make some hard decisions. I love that this really
- 12:55Speaker 1: goes there. Yeah, me too, topics, Me too.
- 12:59Speaker 2: I think David is so damn sexy Nathan will love
- 13:03Speaker 2: interest and the idea is very handsome. I do not understand,
- 13:07Speaker 2: like why he's not in more projects. He I was
- 13:10Speaker 2: looking at his IMDb. He's in stuff, but like.
- 13:13Speaker 1: Like this watched The Ghost Whisperer, right, I loved the Ghosts.
- 13:17Speaker 1: But when he came on screen, you recognized I knew
- 13:19Speaker 1: exactly who he was? Yeah, to me, I didn't he was.
- 13:21Speaker 1: He was brand new to me and some of the
- 13:24Speaker 1: other faces are so familiar that I kind of was like,
- 13:26Speaker 1: who's this guy? I wonder what he looks like today?
- 13:29Speaker 2: Oh? Yeah, because this was nineteen ninety nine, right, could
- 13:33Speaker 2: he play like a second chance romance lead on Hallmark today?
- 13:39Speaker 2: He looks the same. These are all these current images
- 13:42Speaker 2: of him. I don't see anything super current, but I
- 13:46Speaker 2: like him.
- 13:48Speaker 1: I like him.
- 13:48Speaker 2: My last like is just this cast is so stacked.
- 13:53Speaker 2: Lord Dern, Patty Duke, Kathy Baker, Lynn Redgrave, Tony Award
- 13:57Speaker 2: winning Mary Louise Wilson. So so many recognizable faces kept
- 14:02Speaker 2: appearing on my screen. Like when Lynn Redgrave comes as
- 14:05Speaker 2: to Judge, I was like, like, I couldn't tell you, like, oh,
- 14:08Speaker 2: Lynn Redgrave has been in this. I just know as
- 14:11Speaker 2: she's a recognizable face, right, And I love probably what
- 14:15Speaker 2: people drew people to this TV movie. They're like, I'm
- 14:18Speaker 2: gonna watch this movie with Laura dern in it totally.
- 14:22Speaker 2: I know you hated the whole judge on Christmas Eve,
- 14:26Speaker 2: but Lynn Redgrave as the judge who is just highly
- 14:29Speaker 2: annoyed mean me Lol. Just like every sarcastic observation I had,
- 14:35Speaker 2: I loved.
- 14:35Speaker 1: Well, let's take a big break and come right back
- 14:37Speaker 1: to talk what we wished for. So as I said,
- 14:49Speaker 1: are you raising your hand or stredging? Overall, I really
- 14:53Speaker 1: liked this movie, but we cannot not talk about some
- 14:57Speaker 1: of these things. I want to be clear. I didn't
- 14:58Speaker 1: hate the scene in the courtroom, but the reality is
- 15:02Speaker 1: they would have absolutely let Emily rot in jail over
- 15:04Speaker 1: the holiday. They would not have rushed a small town
- 15:08Speaker 1: Christmas Eve, pulled away from your dinner. This was not.
- 15:14Speaker 1: While you could argue that it was an emergency, it
- 15:17Speaker 1: wasn't an actual emergency like the kids would have been. Okay,
- 15:22Speaker 1: you know, it wasn't actually going to happen, That's right.
- 15:24Speaker 1: While I was rooting for Emily and the children, I
- 15:28Speaker 1: had a hard time rooting for Emily and Nathan because
- 15:33Speaker 1: I thought he stepped into daddy duty a little bit
- 15:38Speaker 1: too quit. We're talking about a two week span time. Yeah,
- 15:41Speaker 1: while these kids needed these strong adult figures in their life.
- 15:45Speaker 1: The fact that the solution because they're like Emily doesn't
- 15:48Speaker 1: have a place to live. He's like, she can move
- 15:49Speaker 1: in with me because I love her and I think
- 15:51Speaker 1: we should get married. And I thought, wow, okay, we're
- 15:53Speaker 1: going to assume happily ever after. But the reality is,
- 15:57Speaker 1: you've known each other for two weeks and what these
- 15:59Speaker 1: kids actually need is stability. Right. Was there not a
- 16:02Speaker 1: single other solution we could come up with that would
- 16:05Speaker 1: have put them into a stable home instead of being like, well,
- 16:09Speaker 1: let's throw them into Not only are they living with
- 16:12Speaker 1: their aunt serving as their parental figure because mom's in
- 16:14Speaker 1: jail for the next five years. Now they had a
- 16:17Speaker 1: new daddy. Yeah, and what if that romantic relationship? Yeah,
- 16:21Speaker 1: good questions.
- 16:22Speaker 2: Maybe a better solution would have been, like the two
- 16:24Speaker 2: neighbor sisters to be like, she can they can come
- 16:27Speaker 2: with absolutely, we're stable.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Absolutely, yeah not these big homes are rattling around if
- 16:32Speaker 1: we don't in all this space, right, and they clearly
- 16:35Speaker 1: loved having the kids around.
- 16:37Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, I agree with you there. While I liked
- 16:44Speaker 2: Nathan and I enjoyed his big monologue at the at
- 16:48Speaker 2: the end, what I hated was the they can we're
- 16:52Speaker 2: gonna I love her, we're gonna get married, whatever declaration.
- 16:56Speaker 2: It's been two weeks, like you said, and nearly five
- 16:59Speaker 2: hours ago he was playing bad cop, giving her like,
- 17:02Speaker 2: you know, shaking her down the hard and criminal.
- 17:05Speaker 1: That she wasn't interested in listening to her side of
- 17:08Speaker 1: the story. Not at all this movie. It just it was.
- 17:13Speaker 2: Like one thing after another in terms of like accepting
- 17:19Speaker 2: Emily's decisions to run away with the children, Like it
- 17:23Speaker 2: was really push and pull with me, like she was
- 17:27Speaker 2: doing the right thing, but.
- 17:28Speaker 1: Not doing the right thing. Absolutely, yes, they needed.
- 17:33Speaker 2: A place to stay. She was following the instructions from
- 17:37Speaker 2: the lady that she at the diner. It wasn't going
- 17:40Speaker 2: to harm anybody to sleep in this house one night,
- 17:43Speaker 2: you know.
- 17:44Speaker 1: And then they keep staying and keep staying, and they
- 17:46Speaker 1: turn it into their home and they decorated, and that's
- 17:49Speaker 1: when like I was like, oh, no, she's falling further
- 17:51Speaker 1: and further down the hole here. It's going to be
- 17:54Speaker 1: harder to explain. Yes, yes, you could almost explain away
- 18:00Speaker 1: the one night there, right, but then when they just
- 18:03Speaker 1: move on in and make it their home, and I
- 18:06Speaker 1: was just so nervous for her at every turn, because
- 18:08Speaker 1: if that were me, I would not be able to relax. No,
- 18:10Speaker 1: I know that someone could find me out at any moment.
- 18:14Speaker 2: Yeah, there's at one point where I'm like, Okay, she
- 18:16Speaker 2: can explain to Nathan, to everybody, like these are my
- 18:21Speaker 2: sister's kids, Like she didn't have to pretend like she
- 18:23Speaker 2: was their mom, But these are my sister's kids, and
- 18:25Speaker 2: my sister's in jail and the state wants to take
- 18:28Speaker 2: them away at I'm the best caretaker for them. Like
- 18:30Speaker 2: that feels explainable. But the squatting at somebody's house pretending
- 18:35Speaker 2: to be somebody else like these, this gets a.
- 18:38Speaker 1: Little more I agree, a little more messy. I agree.
- 18:41Speaker 1: I agree.
- 18:43Speaker 2: My only other biggest wish is it's all in line
- 18:45Speaker 2: with like Nathan and his big speech, and that in
- 18:48Speaker 2: the ending it's it's all resolved so neatly hmmm, because
- 18:52Speaker 2: you know it is a Christmas miracle, that that's the
- 18:56Speaker 2: only element of Christmas here besides the angel. Really, but
- 19:00Speaker 2: the judge is like, Okay, yeah, you're good. I'm not
- 19:03Speaker 2: even sure what the judges is here. What's this hearing for?
- 19:08Speaker 1: Is it?
- 19:08Speaker 2: Because she was like squatting in some trespassing or something.
- 19:11Speaker 2: Have children, right, But why would a judge, a family
- 19:16Speaker 2: court judge would oversee that.
- 19:18Speaker 1: I guess. I mean, she's just the small town judge.
- 19:21Speaker 1: So they're trying to decide, like because I guess they're
- 19:23Speaker 1: gonna take the kids away, and they don't want to
- 19:25Speaker 1: take the kids away, and they don't think she should
- 19:27Speaker 1: be in jail, and this whole situation, I would the
- 19:30Speaker 1: social worker actually be there to like it's a little contrived.
- 19:35Speaker 1: And again I was rooting for them, but I was thinking,
- 19:39Speaker 1: as soon as she runs away with the kids, the
- 19:42Speaker 1: movie poster is Emily and Nathan and the kids, happy family,
- 19:46Speaker 1: and so I kept thinking, there is no way in
- 19:50Speaker 1: which we get to that place that makes any sense, right,
- 19:53Speaker 1: And it doesn't make sense. But I guess we're just
- 19:55Speaker 1: we're just here for the happy ending. And I did
- 19:59Speaker 1: love that her her sister, the social worker at one
- 20:02Speaker 1: point in the movie is questioning her and she's like,
- 20:03Speaker 1: I don't know where she is, but they are in
- 20:06Speaker 1: the best place, Like these kids are, okay, you need
- 20:10Speaker 1: to chill. I did understand social worker. She's like, you
- 20:12Speaker 1: don't have a job. How are you to take care
- 20:13Speaker 1: of them. You don't have a place to live. She
- 20:14Speaker 1: was asking the right questions. Where was she living before?
- 20:17Speaker 1: Like why couldn't she take the kids back to I
- 20:19Speaker 1: don't I don't take care of herself before. Yeah, we
- 20:21Speaker 1: didn't have any context of like where she came to.
- 20:22Speaker 1: I would go back to school and be a nurse.
- 20:24Speaker 1: But what were you doing before.
- 20:25Speaker 2: The Yeah, your sister called he Yeah, yeah, you know,
- 20:28Speaker 2: I wonder would have been better if Emily was kind
- 20:33Speaker 2: of on hard times too, but not to the extent
- 20:36Speaker 2: of her sisters. Yeah, I think so, you know, but
- 20:39Speaker 2: she's just like so adorable and cute and like looks
- 20:42Speaker 2: put together, except she drives a shitty.
- 20:44Speaker 1: Car and like doesn't have any money. Yeah. I have
- 20:47Speaker 1: one more wish, and that is that Alana is a
- 20:51Speaker 1: struggling reader. They talk about that. I thought it was
- 20:55Speaker 1: actually very cute when they do the little scavenger hunt
- 20:58Speaker 1: with like towel right, like common words like kind of
- 21:02Speaker 1: site word scavenger hunt, and then it leads her to
- 21:04Speaker 1: the library into this book, The Secret Garden. Okay, as
- 21:09Speaker 1: a lover of books and a lover of reading, I
- 21:12Speaker 1: agree that Alana was a struggling reader and therefore she
- 21:15Speaker 1: didn't want to read, which I understand. To get someone
- 21:17Speaker 1: to love to read, you got to find them a
- 21:19Speaker 1: book that they're excited about, and so you don't want
- 21:21Speaker 1: to use these primers like these. I can read books
- 21:23Speaker 1: that are terrible stories, but I'm going to nitpick here.
- 21:27Speaker 1: A kid who can't read well is not going to
- 21:29Speaker 1: be able to access the secret Garden. She's like, I
- 21:32Speaker 1: loved this book, such a great story. If you can
- 21:35Speaker 1: barely decode the words on the page, you can't comprehend
- 21:38Speaker 1: the story that it's telling, Like there needed to be
- 21:40Speaker 1: another gateway book. I thought, that's all okay. The former
- 21:45Speaker 1: teacher in me was irritated. We're just creating more frustration
- 21:48Speaker 1: for poor Alana here with this book. Are you ready
- 21:53Speaker 1: for did to see that?
- 21:54Speaker 2: I am? And it goes back to my first impression.
- 21:58Speaker 2: I asked, if we're in stars?
- 22:00Speaker 1: Yes we are.
- 22:01Speaker 2: This movie was filmed on the Warner Brothers backlot. Once
- 22:04Speaker 2: you recognize it, you can't see it. There's the gazebo,
- 22:08Speaker 2: the market is where Docie's Market is. Ad to I
- 22:11Speaker 2: couldn't tell for sure if the diner was where Luke's
- 22:16Speaker 2: Diner is, but it was all in the same area
- 22:19Speaker 2: that high school. Just I'm in a fun game of
- 22:23Speaker 2: six degrees of separation. So this is where they filmed
- 22:27Speaker 2: Gilmore Girls, right, May Whitman goes she films this movie here.
- 22:31Speaker 2: She goes on to play the daughter of Lauren Graham,
- 22:35Speaker 2: who is Laura like Gilmore Parenthood.
- 22:37Speaker 1: Anyway, that's nice. I love it. I have silly little things.
- 22:41Speaker 1: One you talked about Emily's crappy car. It has one
- 22:44Speaker 1: of those automatic shoulder seatbelts. And when I was a child,
- 22:47Speaker 1: like a young like nine to ten, I loved a
- 22:50Speaker 1: car that had those. We never owned a car. It
- 22:53Speaker 1: was kind of boogie right, it was like this fancy
- 22:56Speaker 1: I really wanted a car that had like my mom
- 22:59Speaker 1: and drew of an old mobile station wagon for years
- 23:01Speaker 1: and years and years and years and years. It did
- 23:03Speaker 1: not have automatic seatbelts. And I've really really wanted at
- 23:07Speaker 1: some point to own a car. And then, of course
- 23:08Speaker 1: they were phased out by the time we moved on
- 23:10Speaker 1: to whatever the next car was. Why they get rid
- 23:13Speaker 1: of those, I don't know. Maybe they're not a secure
- 23:16Speaker 1: I don't know, but I got to tell you, I
- 23:18Speaker 1: think we had a babysitter who drove one a car
- 23:20Speaker 1: like that or a new friends that did. I grew
- 23:23Speaker 1: up in a one story house, and I thought like
- 23:25Speaker 1: friends and headhouses with stairs were really living the life.
- 23:27Speaker 1: Oh what I kill for a one story house right now?
- 23:30Speaker 1: Right now, me too. I know you don't know what
- 23:34Speaker 1: you got till it's.
- 23:34Speaker 2: I've been a one story house too, did you. Yeah?
- 23:37Speaker 2: Maybe that's just the area that Megan and I grew
- 23:40Speaker 2: up in, like the same area, the same area, So
- 23:42Speaker 2: maybe there were just a lot of ranch houses there.
- 23:45Speaker 1: Maybe the house we moved in after that had one
- 23:47Speaker 1: story too. My parents, oddly, once I was in college,
- 23:51Speaker 1: morved into their Their house now has three stories. Oh wow,
- 23:54Speaker 1: But we always lived in the stairs for like a
- 23:57Speaker 1: yeah it is. It's a terrible house, four people in
- 24:00Speaker 1: their seventies, ycause the main floor is the middle floor
- 24:04Speaker 1: and there's no bedrooms on the main floor. And my
- 24:07Speaker 1: mom has had many, many surgeries, and every time I'm like,
- 24:09Speaker 1: this is the worst house. Yes. Have they ever considered
- 24:13Speaker 1: like something different, Yes, but my mom loves that house.
- 24:17Speaker 1: They were like, kid, we put in an elevator, not.
- 24:19Speaker 2: Really wow, And she get those like remember talk about
- 24:23Speaker 2: high falutin those seat things that go up the stairs.
- 24:27Speaker 1: No, I think they would sooner die. But yeah, I know.
- 24:29Speaker 2: But when we were kids and we see commercials for that,
- 24:32Speaker 2: I was like, that's living, man. I didn't have to
- 24:35Speaker 2: walk my butt up the stairs. As I was watching
- 24:37Speaker 2: The Prices right in my one story house.
- 24:42Speaker 1: That was dreaming, living the dream. Yeah, totally. Can I
- 24:47Speaker 1: tell you what movie we watched as a family last night? Sure,
- 24:50Speaker 1: we watched Son in Law? Have you seen Son in Law?
- 24:53Speaker 1: Is that Polly Shore? Yes? I love that movie. I
- 24:59Speaker 1: don't think i've ever seen you know. It's one of
- 25:01Speaker 1: those things that if you didn't see it in its time,
- 25:03Speaker 1: you would probably not enjoy. But Tiffany Amberthiesen, isn't it
- 25:06Speaker 1: Holly Shore? Isn't it Carla Gugino? Isn't it? Oh?
- 25:10Speaker 2: She is?
- 25:11Speaker 1: Yeah, that's so funny. She's the main character in it,
- 25:14Speaker 1: and I love Son in Law? Is it like raunchy?
- 25:18Speaker 1: Not really? No, not really. There's some like mildly suggestive,
- 25:23Speaker 1: but no, it's not raunchy. The idea is like she's
- 25:26Speaker 1: a farm girl and she goes to college and Polly
- 25:30Speaker 1: Shore is her ra and he like opens her eyes
- 25:34Speaker 1: to like La, and she changes and she goes back.
- 25:36Speaker 1: It's a whole thing anyway, And she brings him back
- 25:39Speaker 1: home and her family's like horrified by him, but of
- 25:41Speaker 1: course they all come to love him. Oh I think
- 25:44Speaker 1: I would like it. Did you wear You're a Spree sweater?
- 25:46Speaker 2: Well?
- 25:47Speaker 1: I didn't what I should have, but it's cute. It's
- 25:50Speaker 1: on tuby, which is a free streaming platform. It's the
- 25:52Speaker 1: only place it's streaming. I recommend it. I watch One
- 25:55Speaker 1: Fine Day and watch Son in Law. Those are my
- 25:57Speaker 1: right movie recommended away from this. Yeah, I only have
- 26:01Speaker 1: one other. Did you see that? Okay, let's hear. At
- 26:02Speaker 1: one point, Emily and Barry are talking to each other
- 26:05Speaker 1: on payphones. Barry's in the jail payphone behind and Emily's
- 26:09Speaker 1: in like a town payphone. Who called whom? That's a
- 26:12Speaker 1: good question, Like I know you can't call the jail.
- 26:15Speaker 1: They have to call you.
- 26:16Speaker 2: Oh really, Oh I guess that makes sense? Okay, yeah, yeah,
- 26:20Speaker 2: out call Yeah okay?
- 26:21Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 26:22Speaker 2: And how did she could just call this? How did
- 26:23Speaker 2: Barry call a random payphone number?
- 26:25Speaker 1: Yeah? If and if she did, like, wouldn't I mean,
- 26:29Speaker 1: this is nineteen nighty nine, it's not nineteen thirty nine.
- 26:31Speaker 1: They could have tracked where that phone call was going?
- 26:35Speaker 1: I don't know they could have, but how does don't
- 26:39Speaker 1: jail house calls? Aren't they like monitored? No? Were it?
- 26:42Speaker 1: They're like recorded? No? Sorry? Will you accept the charges?
- 26:47Speaker 1: Collect collect calls? Yeah?
- 26:49Speaker 2: So how do you do a collect call on a
- 26:51Speaker 2: payphone unless like you have to feed the payphone with
- 26:54Speaker 2: great question?
- 26:55Speaker 1: You know? I don't know, Yeah, I don't know. I
- 26:57Speaker 1: don't know either. I was really stuck in that moment.
- 27:00Speaker 1: I was like, how did who called whom?
- 27:01Speaker 2: Did?
- 27:01Speaker 1: How did they make this happen? And this is when
- 27:04Speaker 1: the directors are like, shh, stop it. It doesn't matter.
- 27:11Speaker 1: They're not moving with a band she's met two weeks ago.
- 27:14Speaker 1: These are not the big problems. Tell me you did
- 27:19Speaker 1: to see that? Did I steal them? All? Yeah? I
- 27:21Speaker 1: only had the stars hollow one, Oh got it? Got it?
- 27:23Speaker 1: That was a great one. And of course finally the
- 27:25Speaker 1: town's called Bethlehem and there's an angel.
- 27:28Speaker 2: Two on the nose to two on the nose. What
- 27:31Speaker 2: did E rate a season premiere?
- 27:33Speaker 1: I gave it three point seven five stars. I gave
- 27:35Speaker 1: it three stars. Ooh, I know, just because I was
- 27:39Speaker 1: like had to yell about.
- 27:40Speaker 2: It, you know, Yeah, no, that's fair. I wonder how
- 27:44Speaker 2: twenty two point two million people would have rated this movie. Oh, actually,
- 27:48Speaker 2: it has pretty high ratings on IMDb, does it? Yeah,
- 27:51Speaker 2: in the sevens, which is pretty high.
