- 0:36meets innovation, you get the revolution.
- 0:46Welcome to the Rocker Skating Podcast.
- 0:49We've done a lot of previews and this is our last one.
- 0:52I promise this is the last one. By the time you listen to those
- 0:57future podcast listeners, the Olympics will almost be over and
- 1:02we will have basically 1 1/2 disciplines left to go because
- 1:07this will probably go out in the middle of the pair's event.
- 1:11And the women will be the last of the five disciplines to
- 1:16happen, including team. Hi, Michelle.
- 1:20Hi, Jackie. By the time I get to this part
- 1:22of the Olympics, you're going to be laying on the floor of the
- 1:24practice, right? I mean, you've seen that before.
- 1:26You have a picture of it. I do.
- 1:28I do. Boy, oh boy, this women's event.
- 1:32This women's event is outrageous and unlike, I think I'm going to
- 1:38eat my words, maybe unlike the other disciplines.
- 1:42Well, unlike the men in the pairs where there's talent and
- 1:48there's chaos to be had, I don't see as much chaos here.
- 1:55The potential, the potential for chaos is definitely lower.
- 1:59Yeah, I think I agree. I think I agree.
- 2:00I think everyone's going to skate relatively well.
- 2:03There may be like a fall or a pop on a triple Axel here and
- 2:05there, but I don't see any cataclysmic meltdowns in the
- 2:11wind the way we might anticipate in pairs of men.
- 2:14Right exactly. Now we come into this event
- 2:18knowing that Japan is sending three women who could be on the
- 2:23podium. the US is sending three women who could be on the
- 2:29podium. The European champion just put
- 2:34up a huge score. A neutral athlete could put up a
- 2:42big score and there are some unknowns here who have the
- 2:50potential to be up there but have not necessarily skated
- 2:55their best in international competition this season.
- 3:00And so you Add all those up and I think that there are probably
- 3:0710 people who could get on the podium now, varying degrees of
- 3:14probability. But like, you know, would I be
- 3:20incredibly surprised if like Jia Shin get got on the podium?
- 3:25Not necessarily. I'd be very surprised, but I
- 3:28would feel like it was completely warranted if she
- 3:31skated well right? Yeah, I mean, this is this, This
- 3:34is Jia Shin has put up a 74 point short program in
- 3:40international competition this year, right.
- 3:42And and if she goes clean in her free skate, she's in the one 40s
- 3:48like that. There is no and if they are
- 3:52scoring her correctly in components, which at 4
- 3:55continents they certainly were not, she could be up there like
- 4:00she's one of those examples, right?
- 4:02And and you know, my my general sentimental favorite, Lara Naki
- 4:09Goodman is one of those examples of somebody who if she skates to
- 4:14her potential, it's there, but they're not going to give her
- 4:19the marks in the short program, unfortunately.
- 4:21And that's that's probably where that's going to be an issue.
- 4:26And like, yeah, go, go and give that one of the most musical
- 4:30short programs of all season, like a 7 1/2 for your components
- 4:34grade do. It I mean, I I I would like to
- 4:38think that if she skates clean, she gets a good score and decent
- 4:41components, but I don't yeah, I don't, I don't think it would
- 4:45put her in the same. I mean, plus she has an easier
- 4:48combination in the short program.
- 4:50So she's not going to be in the same, you know, league is maybe
- 4:54like the top five, but come on, we're in Italy.
- 4:59Give her the components she deserves.
- 5:00I know maybe maybe we get a little bit of that, but you
- 5:04know, like which is why I was, I was very curious about how
- 5:09Europeans was going to go, right, because Nina Petrokina
- 5:13comes in with two very big scores, a 70 and a 145 or
- 5:19something to that effect, right? Like those are those are top six
- 5:26kinds of scores and you wonder if that sort of exuberance that
- 5:36she got at Europeans is going to maintain given a very different
- 5:42field than Europeans. I think at Europeans by that
- 5:48point, when Petra Kina skated, they were just hungry to point.
- 5:51Out a a big score. Just don't fall, yeah?
- 5:55And, and she delivered and, you know, the win was very easy and,
- 6:02and they gave her a huge score for it so.
- 6:05The the panel is not going to need that kind of relief.
- 6:08I don't think of this competition, I don't think that
- 6:10her components will be quite as high in comparison to the other
- 6:13skaters. I mean, I definitely think she
- 6:16has a shot at top ten, top five, but I think it metal is very
- 6:22outside chance. Yeah.
- 6:28I feel like it's between the Japanese team and the American
- 6:33team and whoever skates really well.
- 6:35And then you throw in The X Factor of Adelia Petrosian, who
- 6:42I don't know what to expect. I don't know.
- 6:44I don't know. Here's the thing, OK, I watched
- 6:47her practice video from Russian nationals.
- 6:50She did not compete her free skate this way, but her she did
- 6:53a full run through in practice. Her quad toes were rotated.
- 6:56They were rotated the axle. No, but the, the, the toes were.
- 7:02And so let's just say that she's able to get that program out to
- 7:08the best of her ability and she gets an under rotation call on
- 7:11the triple Axel and she gets full credit for two quad toes.
- 7:16That's I mean that. Trend is a game.
- 7:18Her components were not terrible at the qualifying competition.
- 7:21She skates with a lot of like passion and sparkle.
- 7:26I, I have to say she's in the mix for every color metal.
- 7:29I mean, and especially in the short program, if she can get
- 7:34the triple Axel out. Yeah, it's, it's just, it's a
- 7:38true wild card. And until we see her practice,
- 7:44you know, I, we, we won't know for sure.
- 7:46And then, you know, the last girl out of this camp we saw
- 7:50that was subject to, subjected to intense pressure, completely
- 7:55crumbled under it. And I don't know what it's going
- 8:00to be like for Petrosian. I mean, in one sense, it's not
- 8:04negative pressure. You know, it's like they really
- 8:07want her to win, but she's putting a lot of pressure on
- 8:09herself. But no one's saying, well, I
- 8:12think there are people saying she shouldn't be competing, but
- 8:14it's not so targeted at her personally, but at, you know,
- 8:18Russia and Belarus in general. Yeah.
- 8:21So that's just all I don't. The, the, the, The thing is
- 8:26they, she needs, if Petrosian is going to be a medal contender,
- 8:31she needs the triple Axel and, and, or the quads like she can't
- 8:34do it with that, with a full, no triple Axel, short and free.
- 8:41So she knows she has to take that risk.
- 8:43And the risk is, is that she will get the, the, the bigger
- 8:50technical score, which is, which is really the, the, the big
- 8:53thing. She is not immune to having
- 9:01issues with high pressure situations.
- 9:04And we've, we've seen that with her in, in other competitions,
- 9:08even domestically. So you know, more of a wild card
- 9:12right Where as you talk about, you know, past Russian women
- 9:18like Zagitovo or Medvedev or Shrusova and they they often
- 9:25times were very locked in very, very quickly.
- 9:30Now I think Petrosian skating skills wise is not close to the
- 9:40top folks presentation wise is more in line especially in the
- 9:48free skate. So you know, you wonder right
- 9:53like you wonder how these components are going to be
- 9:57scored period. And we won't know until we watch
- 10:03the short program and we won't even know unless it is a clean
- 10:08short program. Because, you know, if she makes
- 10:11a mistake in the short, you're just going to see components
- 10:13that reflects that. You're not going to see the,
- 10:15like the, the exuberance, if you will, of the, of the, I've used
- 10:21that word twice now of, of a, of a clean skate with, you know,
- 10:25multiple quads or whatever that, that changes apparently the,
- 10:28the, the judge's brain cells and that changes things.
- 10:34Yeah, it'll be really interesting to see what her
- 10:36strategy is to I mean, it just based on like the condition she
- 10:41was in at nationals. It felt like the axle was iffier
- 10:43for her. And then when she messed it up
- 10:46in the in the free skate, then she really struggled with each
- 10:50of the quad attempts. I think maybe do it in the short
- 10:53and then just do the quad toes in the free skate.
- 10:56But I don't know, I think it's all, it's all a question mark
- 11:00and I feel like they're really flying blind with this.
- 11:05We all, we all remember Sasha Truseva's triple Axel that Oh my
- 11:10God. Like she didn't she barely ever
- 11:13hit a clearly in practice. Yeah.
- 11:15And she was like, yeah, no, I'll do it in a short program.
- 11:17Yeah, crazy. Yeah.
- 11:20And it's so frustrating too, because it's like you threw your
- 11:23Olympic gold medal away. You could have won the Olympics,
- 11:25but you had to do that, right. But anyway, maybe we'll maybe
- 11:29she'll she'll have more sense in 20-30.
- 11:32We'll see. Oh.
- 11:33My goodness, I don't even. I don't think about that yet.
- 11:35Yeah. OK, so Japanese women, yeah.
- 11:41Calorie I think is capable of doing 2 very clean skates.
- 11:45I think she's going to be very determined to do 2 clean skates.
- 11:49I think if she is completely clean, the only skaters who
- 11:53could catch her would be Petrosian with quads and Amber
- 11:59Glenn. What?
- 12:04Do you think I would put, I mean Akai into that?
- 12:08Oh. I had a clean cowrie.
- 12:11We've we've we almost saw it. Yeah.
- 12:15At Grand Prix de France it was that was a almost clean cowrie.
- 12:21Now, now, that was a cowrie with like spin level issues and a
- 12:25couple of other things that kept her from being top top, but
- 12:32don't underestimate the value of an 8.0 for, yeah, a triple Axel.
- 12:40Yeah, that's. Another four, that's another 4
- 12:431/2 points, right for for the base value for two programs.
- 12:48That's nine points that we're talking about.
- 12:51And and the The thing is, AMI does so many of her jumps so
- 12:58well that the the grades of execution are going to be there.
- 13:03So, you know, I think that's that's where you're going to see
- 13:06it. And yeah, and I mean, OK.
- 13:10Oh, wait, let's talk about Monet before we go to Alyssa.
- 13:12Where's Monet? How's Monet going to skate?
- 13:14What's Monet going to do? I want Monet to win and I'm
- 13:19afraid that she's crumbling. Same, same.
- 13:23I, I think I just feel like the the combination or the
- 13:33trajectory of Grand Prix Final to Japan, Japan nationals to 4
- 13:39continents has not been positive for her.
- 13:44But then again, was it last year where she didn't have a really
- 13:50good 4 continents and then she came back to worlds and was
- 13:55pretty much flawless? You know, it's it's, it is a
- 14:01question of how much has she been able to erase her memories
- 14:08of these things? Or if not, if it's not erasing
- 14:11the memories, it's taking motivation from not having
- 14:18skated well to to to push herself forward and it just has
- 14:24not seemed like positive energy coming from her, which is tough
- 14:32to see because she is so good. And.
- 14:37And she the, the thing that she doesn't get enough credit for
- 14:41sometimes is how effortless her ice coverage is.
- 14:46And, and the way that she just, you know, she is what folks
- 14:51would call more of a quiet skater, right?
- 14:54Like she just kind of like skims across the ice with very, very
- 14:57effortless power. And you know, I just, I, it just
- 15:04feels, I don't have a good feeling about it for her for the
- 15:09Olympics. But I'm hoping for something
- 15:12different. I'm choosing to believe I know
- 15:18she has it in her. And I'm choosing.
- 15:19To believe in her. And I also feel like the way
- 15:23that she's sort of been taken out of the conversation a little
- 15:25bit after that kind of three event run could be helpful to
- 15:29her. I'm just, I'm choosing to
- 15:33believe she can do it. She's healthy, she can do it.
- 15:36She is. She'll be fine.
- 15:38She just, she just needs to hang out with Caitlin Weaver a little
- 15:40bit and she'll be OK. And Caitlin Weaver is going to
- 15:43be in Milan, so you know. She she just needs to not do
- 15:46more quad toes in. Practice.
- 15:47Oh my God, she starts doing those on Olympic ice.
- 15:51I'm like I'm calling Interpol. Interpol, get ready.
- 15:58Do you think user Ohana will be in Milan?
- 16:02No. Like to watch, to hang out, I.
- 16:05Don't think so. I mean, I, I, I feel like, I
- 16:08feel like if he were to be there, he would be like with
- 16:10some sort of TV entity doing something interesting like, you
- 16:15know, like somebody will would want to capitalize on a
- 16:20potential Yuzu, you know, appearance.
- 16:24Well, I'm wondering about a Yuzu Monet moment.
- 16:27Yeah. Yeah.
- 16:30Summon summoned the Yuzu Monet. Yeah, yeah, seriously.
- 16:36Yeah. And he knew Shoon when he was
- 16:39little too. I was reading about my friend
- 16:43Paige sent me a a an article about when Shoon met Yuzu, the
- 16:48Yuzu gave him a pendant and it was like a a bow and arrow on a
- 16:50pendant. Wow.
- 16:53Yeah. Shot that Shot that bow right
- 16:56into the Olympic. Team all done.
- 16:59OK, Alyssa. Alyssa.
- 17:03So Alyssa is going to win a medal because if she doesn't win
- 17:07one, it's history because every defending world champion has won
- 17:11in women's, in the women's event, has won an Olympic medal.
- 17:14It's so crazy. So I mean, the only, I checked
- 17:16it, the only year it didn't is when they didn't have worlds
- 17:19because of like the war or whatever.
- 17:20They still had an Olympics. And so there was no defending
- 17:23world champion. That would have been I think
- 17:251917 and 1918 Olympics. So and most of them win gold or
- 17:30silver. There were a couple that won
- 17:31bronze, one of your faves and and arenas Lutskaya.
- 17:40But yeah, is is Alyssa's made a lot of history.
- 17:44Could she make some negative history?
- 17:46I mean. The thing that we know about
- 17:50Alyssa is that she, out of maybe everyone except for Calorie
- 17:58Sakaboto has the highest probability of going clean in
- 18:03both programs. I, I, yeah, I expect her to do 2
- 18:07completely clean programs, yeah. And and you know, if she does 2
- 18:10completely clean programs, she's on the podium.
- 18:12Yeah. Well, I yeah, I guess.
- 18:17I guess. The reason I say the reason I
- 18:19say that is because the short program she does have the
- 18:24advantage of the triple let's triple loop in the second-half
- 18:27of the program. That like even though the the
- 18:32free skate is going to be lighter in in base value, the
- 18:38fact that if she skates cleanly in the short, really the only
- 18:45people who could come close or beat her are calorie Amber, AMI
- 18:55and Adelia with a triple Axel. And and so if she finds herself
- 19:04in the in the last three for the for the free skate, a clean
- 19:11skate's going to get. There, Monet's not out.
- 19:14Monet's not going to beat a a clean Alyssa and a short.
- 19:17Clean Monet. Clean Grand Prix final show
- 19:19program Monet. No OK the the the the the the
- 19:24base value is not there. Yeah, but the the components
- 19:29are. Yeah, but so, so are, so are
- 19:31Alyssa. Components that's true.
- 19:33She is getting them for the short that's true exactly OK,
- 19:35you're right. You're right, you're right.
- 19:36I'm AI have a a little a. Clean A clean Monet in the free
- 19:40skate can be a clean Alyssa because it's it is a higher Yeah
- 19:45base value. Yeah, I'm like not thinking
- 19:47about her rotating the loop. I think when I'm doing my.
- 19:51If she. Rotate it, yeah.
- 19:53If if she and Amber can do what they did at nationals.
- 19:57Those two programs were so good. Yeah.
- 20:00Oh my God, Amber. If Amber does that short program
- 20:03in Milan, I this is going to blow the roof off the building.
- 20:08Not to mention that Madonna is an Italian woman, so they're
- 20:11going to be excited about that. Madonna, Ciccone.
- 20:15Yeah, I remember in the closing ceremony in Salt Lake City, you
- 20:20know, they have someone from like the next Games and they had
- 20:22an Italian singer there and they introduced her and they were
- 20:24like, she's the Madonna of Italy.
- 20:27I was like, Madonna is of Italy, please.
- 20:32Madonna is of Italy, America. Italians do it better.
- 20:38Yeah, it's. Like Detroit style pizza?
- 20:42Yeah, I have no idea how Amber is going to skate here.
- 20:44I, I, I, I'm so Amber has burned me so many times.
- 20:49I just so I don't believe. And I'm just like, if she skates
- 20:52amazingly well, be happy for her.
- 20:53But I'm not holding my breath because I don't know what to
- 20:56think. And I also feel like I can't
- 20:58figure out what it is that makes her not skate well when she
- 21:01doesn't. It's very confusing to me.
- 21:04So yeah. Yeah, I don't know.
- 21:12I really don't know. Yeah, yeah, it's frustrating.
- 21:15Does a clean amber beat a clean cowrie?
- 21:19Yeah, Yeah, I do think so. Yeah, I don't think that.
- 21:25I don't think a clean cowrie is invincible here.
- 21:31Yeah, But I do think a clean cowrie only loses to, well, you
- 21:38said AMI, but I feel like the odds of clean AMI, clean amber
- 21:43or clean Adelia with quads and a triple Axel, those are all very
- 21:46precarious. Yeah, yeah, precarious.
- 21:49Well, that's, and that's, that's why, that's why Calorie has been
- 21:52so good, right? Like she's been able to deliver
- 21:56very strong technical content, not the best, but very strong in
- 22:01a very consistent basis. And, you know, other people make
- 22:07a mistake or two and she's there.
- 22:09Yeah. And and when she was, when and
- 22:13when she wasn't. There was when Alyssa skated
- 22:16perfectly cleanly and she made a bit.
- 22:19She made a bit of a mistake. Yeah.
- 22:23Oh, and Kyrie made a big mistake.
- 22:25No, I mean. Like big, a bit of a big
- 22:27mistake. Yeah, yeah.
- 22:30OK, where does Isabel factor in? Isabel is, is a total kind of
- 22:36like I, I think in a lot of ways she's dark horsing this whole
- 22:39thing because we're, I don't think that many people are
- 22:44focused on Isabel, given she, she doesn't have the firepower
- 22:50of some of the top. She like components.
- 22:56Why she is amongst the top, but not not like she's not blowing
- 23:03anybody away with her components either.
- 23:06But she's, she's good and steady and, and, and also has the the
- 23:13potential to be clean. And, you know, I think a lot of
- 23:17a lot's going to come down to whether or not she can rotate
- 23:21her combos. And, and she's, she's also
- 23:25watered down her content from a few years ago when she was back
- 23:29loading more things and all that just to make sure that she gets
- 23:33her her stuff rotated. And so the base value is no
- 23:36longer as high for her. And she needs to be more than
- 23:43just clean. She needs to be like skating
- 23:46spectacularly a lot because the you're not going to see the same
- 23:53kinds of grades of execution for her.
- 23:55And so, but that's also to say, right, that this is the kind of
- 23:59skater who can, who can be part of the mix because of how, how
- 24:06consistent potentially she, she can put down her programs,
- 24:09right? And you put, you put in a 2:15
- 24:13to 2:20 and you're, you're in the mix for the top five, if not
- 24:17higher. Yeah.
- 24:19I mean, the last time she competed in Italy.
- 24:21Oh, no, no. The last time was at the Olympic
- 24:24testament. But before that, when she was at
- 24:26the Grand Prix final in Torino, she had a great skate.
- 24:30Well, everyone else around her crumbled and talked about how
- 24:36like having her family there in the stands, it made it feel like
- 24:38so warm and comfortable for her and I guess had the opposite
- 24:42effect on everyone else. But I don't know.
- 24:45I expect her to skate clean. I just don't know where she's
- 24:48going to shake out clean with maybe an under rotation on the
- 24:51combo, Right? Yeah.
- 24:53I think of of, of all of those, of all of the skaters we just
- 24:58talked about, she probably doesn't have her own destiny in
- 25:05her hands, right? Like the the, the Asian saying
- 25:08of like you don't hold the keys or whatever, like so many
- 25:12metaphors right now. But like everybody else is like,
- 25:17if they skate cleanly, they're up there.
- 25:20If Isabel skates cleanly, she's up there.
- 25:24But she would need others to have issues for her to really be
- 25:28up there. You know who I really want to be
- 25:32in the mix but I don't think will.
- 25:33It's Luna Hendrix. Luna Hendrix has not skated a
- 25:40clean short program all season I.
- 25:42Know, I mean the Luna of years past could sneak into this top
- 25:51five, but I don't know if she's in the shape to get there and I
- 25:56don't know why the short program is such a like issue for her.
- 26:00It also just doesn't help that when she's doing her triple
- 26:05triples, the triple toe is not clean right now.
- 26:08Yeah, yeah, it. It hasn't come back.
- 26:13Yeah. The way that she would have
- 26:15liked it to come back. But yeah, I don't, I don't know
- 26:19about that short program either. Like what's going on.
- 26:22Like it's Céline Dion Luna. Yeah, just listen to it and
- 26:24enjoy it and you know. Maybe it shouldn't be called
- 26:28ashes. Maybe she should be skating to
- 26:33that's the way it is. I know exactly.
- 26:39Or I'm or I'm alive, yes. I mean, wouldn't that have been
- 26:43such a? That would be so good.
- 26:45It would have been such a thing. There's a guy on TikTok that
- 26:50does edits to like the Céline Dion songs, the upbeat ones, and
- 26:54he just like does all these very dramatic head movements and
- 26:56stuff. And it's very like, you know,
- 26:58like, yeah, let's go. And I can see, I can see Luna
- 27:02doing it. All the little Celine, little,
- 27:05little details. I mean, and then there's our,
- 27:10you know, beautiful, wonderful Jia Shin, who I think could be
- 27:15on the podium here but probably won't.
- 27:19She's got a performance in international competition issue
- 27:23that I think she needs to figure out, and I don't know if she'll
- 27:25figure it out before this event, but I would love for her to.
- 27:28I would love it. It's interesting, right?
- 27:31Like Jia Shin could be one of those people who has like an OK
- 27:37Olympics and then just like hits it out of the ballpark for for
- 27:40the for worlds. Like.
- 27:42She could be one of those, you know, I think, I think you, you
- 27:46look at this field and you know, Anastasia Coupanovas in there,
- 27:54Sofia Salvadelkina is in there, Batty skis as if she skates like
- 28:00she did in that free skate at nationals.
- 28:03It not that she's in there for the for for the medals, but
- 28:06she's, you know, getting into the top 10 here is going to be
- 28:11quite the feat for for everybody, period.
- 28:16You know, I and and I think all of those who we just mentioned,
- 28:20like that's, that's my 15 or so who could make it to the top
- 28:26ten. Yeah, that's 15.
- 28:29I mean, it's it's, it's big. And and we're not even talking
- 28:32about Nina Pinzarone. We're not even talking about
- 28:35Kimi Ripa. We're not even talking about
- 28:39Victoria Safonova, right. Like the skaters who we have
- 28:43known for a number of years, who have been, have been up there.
- 28:50And it it's a it's a, it's a very talented field and is going
- 28:55to be a nail biter. Yeah.
- 28:59And getting into that free skate is so sorry.
- 29:03Getting into the final six for the free skate is going to be so
- 29:07important. Yeah.
- 29:08And that's the thing that Adelia Petrosian does not have in her
- 29:13favor. She's going first or second.
- 29:16Yeah, in the short program. Yeah, that.
- 29:23Completely changes the game. Yeah.
- 29:25I mean, I feel like even if she does a clean short program with
- 29:28a triple Axel and let's say she gets like a 71, yeah, 72, that's
- 29:33like. 8th. Yeah, like all these girls can
- 29:35beat that if they're clean. Yeah.
- 29:39What did she get at the qualifying competition?
- 29:40668 right? Yeah, 6872.
- 29:45Yeah, she has to have the axle in there and she may not even
- 29:47break 80 with it, right? Very interesting.
- 29:51Yeah, 68 and she had AQ on her triple Lutz.
- 29:59So had she been? Oh right, I remember this.
- 30:02It was. It was a.
- 30:03Very tight. It was a tight Lutz.
- 30:05Yeah. Had she gotten that clean, she
- 30:09would have been probably 71. So with a triple Axel 75.
- 30:18Yeah. But going first, also very
- 30:21different. Yeah.
- 30:23Yeah. I mean, we'll see.
- 30:24We'll see how that goes. Shall we do top five?
- 30:28Oh, this is so hard, Jackie. OK, you know what?
- 30:37I'm just going to trust my gut and my heart, which have led me
- 30:41astray many times, but I'm going to.
- 30:42I'm going to trust them #1 calorie #2 Alyssa #3 Monet chiba
- 30:51#4 AMI nakai #5 Amber Glenn. Wow.
- 30:59Sorry. I just.
- 31:00I know. I know.
- 31:02I it hurts. You have to believe this is.
- 31:07So is so it's such a weird. Yeah.
- 31:11And I, I mean, when I do that, I'm also counting on Petrosian
- 31:14not being able to withstand the pressure.
- 31:17Yeah, which, you know, I, I'd love to be wrong about about,
- 31:21but. I don't even know if I'm second
- 31:24guessing or if I am thinking about this like I'm putting the
- 31:30the wrong names out in the world right now.
- 31:36Cowrie, Amber. Alyssa.
- 31:43Oh my gosh. AMI Isabo.
- 31:50Interesting. Yeah.
- 31:55OK. I don't know what to think.
- 31:58I don't. I have money in 7th.
- 32:01Oh. I know.
- 32:04Yeah, No, I I think she'll get it together.
- 32:08I think she'll, she'll have it together.
- 32:10I didn't even know where I was going to put Isabel.
- 32:12I just, I don't think she, I think 5th could be Amber, Isabel
- 32:16or Adelia, but I just went with Amber or just came out.
- 32:23Yeah. The Are we going to do our our
- 32:25who, If we could pick who it would be?
- 32:30No, it would be Lara Naki Goodman.
- 32:37Yes, Gia Gia Shin. No, I mean, you know, there's a
- 32:45part of me that wants to say it's time for Amber Glenn to
- 32:51have two clean skates. God yes, imagine if she did that
- 32:55and she won and she's completely capable of it.
- 32:58It's like it just kills me how capable of it she is.
- 33:00And it's like it's not just it's not just that she lands her
- 33:03jumps, it's that she lands all her jumps.
- 33:05Well, you know, like, no, no scratchy triple flip triple
- 33:10toes. No, like foot down on your
- 33:12triple axle, like everything is to the edge of your seat.
- 33:19Amber Glenn that it could possibly be.
- 33:22And yeah, I think that wins. Yeah.
- 33:28It's like, don't even want to think about it because it's just
- 33:30like, yeah. By the time this podcast comes
- 33:35out we will have had more answers because the team event
- 33:39will have happened and we will know things that we didn't know
- 33:45at this time while we're doing these pre pre Olympics previews.
- 33:50Yeah, and learn a lot from watching practice.
- 33:53Absolutely, absolutely. Oh boy.
- 34:00That's all our previews, folks. See it Worlds.
- 34:08You are listening to the two of us while we are still fresh
- 34:11because we have not done weeks of practice sessions, but.
- 34:18What? What?
- 34:18What? What number Olympics is this for
- 34:20you? Four, no 5th winter, but 6th
- 34:25overall. Oh my God that's crazy.
- 34:27I start first which. One was your.
- 34:29Which one was your summer? Paris, Evan Bates and I have
- 34:34done all the same Olympics. So because Vancouver was his
- 34:38first, and that was my first, and then I finally got hired to
- 34:41work a Summer Olympics and I'm there and Evan Bates is there
- 34:44too, so. What a crazy stat that is.
- 34:47Yeah, yeah, I know. So I've got to keep keep working
- 34:51them or he's got to keep competing because one of us has
- 34:53to beat. You Evan Bates outlives.
- 34:59Uh huh, doesn't outlive us all I've got.
- 35:06I'm so excited to be there. I am also so terrified to be
- 35:13there. There's just it's as we record
- 35:19this on the Wednesday before we leave, I'm feeling a little
- 35:23overwhelmed. I've got a pack tonight.
- 35:27But it's also it, it, it never ceases to come back to me what a
- 35:34privilege it is to be able to do this and to be able to do the
- 35:39things that when we were young Figure skaters, be like the
- 35:44Olympics, let's get the Olympics.
- 35:46And no, we're Olympics observers.
- 35:48But you know, it's still the Olympics.
- 35:52Yeah, it's almost a relief to get to go and not have to skate.
- 35:55I know I I would. I Yeah, I wouldn't do well.
- 35:59All right, Well, thank you for listening to us all of this time
- 36:05with the previews. It will be a fun event, however
- 36:11it goes. It will be a it will be, it's
- 36:14the Olympics. It's always the Olympics, so.
- 36:17And we'll be back a day or two after it wraps up, just frazzled
- 36:22out of our minds, speaking deliriously about skating.
- 36:26Or something, something will happen.
- 36:29All right. Well, for Michelle Ellis, this
- 36:32is Jackie Wong. She's skate nerd of
- 36:33rockerskating.com. By the time you listen to this,
- 36:37we will both have aged a few years from all the work that we
- 36:40were doing. Thank you for listening to us.
- 36:44Thank you for supporting us, and thank you John Wilson Blaze for
- 36:48supporting us. And thank you, Tara Nichols for
- 36:52continuing to listen to us blather about pre previews for
- 36:57the Olympics. And we will talk to you again on
- 37:02the other side. And the other side means a full
- 37:07wrap up of the Olympic figure skating competitions coming up
- 37:13in late February bye. Bye.
