- 0:14Speaker 1: Muckleshoote Casino Resort, and by Luna and Simetra.
- 0:20Speaker 2: We start the season and all the Seattle Kracket head
- 0:23Speaker 2: out on the road for the first of two season
- 0:26Speaker 2: long six game road trips. After a three to one
- 0:28Speaker 2: win on opening night Thursday against Anaheim, Jared mccannon played
- 0:32Speaker 2: the overtime hero with three seconds left on Saturday to
- 0:35Speaker 2: down Vegas by a two to one score. Tonight, the
- 0:38Speaker 2: Kraken visit the Cathedral of Hockey, Montreal, Quebec to take
- 0:42Speaker 2: on a Canadians team looking to improve on last year's
- 0:45Speaker 2: playoff performance with a young core that is contractually locked
- 0:49Speaker 2: up four years to come. Good Afternoon, Ladies and gentlemen,
- 0:52Speaker 2: welcome inside the Bell Center here in downtown Montreal, Quebec.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Alongside Alconiski.
- 0:58Speaker 2: I am ever fits you this this Seattle Cracking Hockey
- 1:01Speaker 2: on the Global Credit Union Crack and Audio Network. You
- 1:04Speaker 2: are listening to the pregame show served up by Frostbrew
- 1:07Speaker 2: cors Light Choose Chill, two to one winners for the
- 1:10Speaker 2: Cracking over the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday. Jared McCann
- 1:14Speaker 2: goals and back to back games to kick off this
- 1:16Speaker 2: twenty twenty five twenty six season, and another solid defensive
- 1:21Speaker 2: game for the Crack And that saw that game plan
- 1:24Speaker 2: and that system executed to near perfection.
- 1:27Speaker 4: Yeah, absolutely didn't get that first goal in the first period,
- 1:29Speaker 4: but that first period, even though it was pretty tight,
- 1:32Speaker 4: that set them up for that second period where they
- 1:34Speaker 4: got that first goal of the game that got the
- 1:36Speaker 4: momentum going. And now you've got two games in a row,
- 1:38Speaker 4: Anaheim in Vegas where they've been outshot, but I think
- 1:41Speaker 4: that they've outplayed bulky teams from a defensive standpoint.
- 1:44Speaker 5: The games have been tight that sales come out on top.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Early on this season, the Seattle Kracking have gotten some
- 1:49Speaker 2: big performances from some key players and Matty Veneer's, Jared mccannon,
- 1:53Speaker 2: Joey Decord, all of whom have been putting together some
- 1:56Speaker 2: stellar performance. Has Vince done also in that mix as well.
- 1:59Speaker 2: The three skaters of that list of four each have
- 2:02Speaker 2: points in back to back games to kick off the year.
- 2:05Speaker 4: Yeah, Vin's done with a goal and two assists, sitting
- 2:07Speaker 4: at three points right now. You mentioned Jared McCown. I
- 2:09Speaker 4: think the leaders are leading right now and you can't
- 2:12Speaker 4: wait for that to happen in November or December. You've
- 2:15Speaker 4: gotta get it right out of the gate and the
- 2:16Speaker 4: krack and have gotten that so far.
- 2:18Speaker 2: On the other side of the red line, this is
- 2:19Speaker 2: a Montreal Canadians team that has made the playoffs last
- 2:22Speaker 2: year the first time in three years, with a corp
- 2:25Speaker 2: that is locked up through at least twenty thirty. Lane
- 2:27Speaker 2: Hudson signing an eight year extension yesterday today the Canadians
- 2:32Speaker 2: extending their front office of Jeff.
- 2:34Speaker 3: Gordon along with Kent Hughes for an additional five years.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Overall, you look at that corp of Nick Suzuki, Col Kawfield,
- 2:41Speaker 2: your eyes, Lefkowski, Noahdopson, Caden Gooley and Lane Hudson are
- 2:45Speaker 2: all locked up through at least twenty thirty.
- 2:48Speaker 5: Yeah, this is a very young Canadians team.
- 2:50Speaker 4: They got a lot of energy, a lot of legs
- 2:52Speaker 4: and see, I'm gonna have to find a way to
- 2:53Speaker 4: slow them down. This is the home opener for the
- 2:56Speaker 4: Canadians here tonight. They are for to one and zero
- 2:58Speaker 4: in their last five home openers, and they are actually
- 3:00Speaker 4: unbeaten here in the last twelve games, going back to
- 3:03Speaker 4: last season, well.
- 3:04Speaker 3: Last time the Kraken. We're in this building.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Back on the twenty ninth of October last year, it
- 3:09Speaker 2: was a first NHL hat trick for Brandon Montour Cracking,

- 3:15Speaker 2: eight to two win over the Canadians. Looking to stay
- 3:18Speaker 2: perfect on the season, we'll go back to Seattle thirty

- 6:17Speaker 13: two minutes away from pug Drop take note against Montreal.
- 6:21Speaker 13: A lot of popping circumstance going on back at Bell Center,
- 6:24Speaker 13: but you also know it is just thirty minutes away
- 6:26Speaker 13: on our side, Well that would be snow. Call me

- 6:40Speaker 13: are live at thirty two Bar and Grill at Kraken
- 6:43Speaker 13: Community ice Plex. Glad you're with us, Mike Benton with you.
- 6:45Speaker 13: Come on down and hang out with us here for
- 6:48Speaker 13: about three hours. Enjoy food, friends, beverages, all in front
- 6:52Speaker 13: of the Crack and taking on Montreal in just a
- 6:55Speaker 13: matter of minutes. As a cracking coming in right now
- 6:57Speaker 13: with the two to zero record for the first time
- 6:59Speaker 13: in franchise history. They are starting game one of their
- 7:02Speaker 13: six game road trip tonight, Montreal two and one. This
- 7:06Speaker 13: is their home opener in a tough place to play
- 7:08Speaker 13: for opponents, and this is game one and four on
- 7:11Speaker 13: their home stand. Well about this saving and the Kraken
- 7:14Speaker 13: aiming to possibly end the day as the last remaining
- 7:17Speaker 13: unbeaten team in the NHL.
- 7:20Speaker 5: How does that sound?
- 7:21Speaker 13: They can take care of that with a whim, but
- 7:23Speaker 13: also had to do a little bit of scoreboard watching
- 7:25Speaker 13: here for that matter. Carolina is two and oh. They're
- 7:28Speaker 13: at San Jose at seven o'clock. Dallas is also two
- 7:31Speaker 13: and oh. They're hosting Minnesota coming up at six point
- 7:35Speaker 13: thirty local time tonight. Yet a great start so far,
- 7:38Speaker 13: locked in on the crake inside, and now they turn
- 7:41Speaker 13: their attention to a very important road swing with plenty
- 7:44Speaker 13: of tests along the way, for six games in ten days.
- 7:47Speaker 13: It begins here with Montreal, who had ninety one points
- 7:50Speaker 13: last season, then Ottawa coming up in two days they
- 7:53Speaker 13: had ninety seven last year. Toronto coming up on Saturday,
- 7:57Speaker 13: one hundred and eight points. Philadelphia, a newly born team,
- 8:01Speaker 13: they say, underhead coach Rick Tockett. Then Washington to end
- 8:04Speaker 13: back to back one hundred and eleven points as well
- 8:07Speaker 13: Alex Solvechkins still ticking on that roster, and then Winnipeg
- 8:11Speaker 13: one hundred and sixteen points, So five of six games
- 8:15Speaker 13: against teams that made the playoffs. The Kraken can really
- 8:18Speaker 13: use some solid footing to keep a good thing going
- 8:21Speaker 13: coming out of that two to zero record. They had
- 8:23Speaker 13: previously beaten the Vegas Golden Knights. Success against Montreal though
- 8:28Speaker 13: in this head to head series very common for the
- 8:30Speaker 13: krack In Their all time record is five and three,
- 8:33Speaker 13: and they've handled Bell Center pretty well in the past
- 8:36Speaker 13: with a three to one record in four games. But
- 8:39Speaker 13: a different animal per se tonight because they're taking on
- 8:43Speaker 13: an opening night environment which has a lot of popping circumstance.
- 8:47Speaker 13: As we said last time there though ever appointing out
- 8:50Speaker 13: the Kraken one handed the eight to two in a
- 8:52Speaker 13: blowout victory featuring Brandon Montour who had a hat trick
- 8:56Speaker 13: and one assists as well. In this coming up the
- 8:58Speaker 13: first of two matchups where the Kraken will then be
- 9:01Speaker 13: right back in Seattle to take on Montreal, not too
- 9:04Speaker 13: far from now. Matter of fact, that is in two
- 9:07Speaker 13: weeks from today, so after that they're all done facing
- 9:11Speaker 13: each other for the regular season. Well again, Vegas. Back
- 9:14Speaker 13: on Saturday, the Cracker wrapping up their two game homestand
- 9:17Speaker 13: with Jeed mccannon looking to turn out the lights that even.
- 9:21Speaker 3: Ears watched by Tomas Hurdle.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Six seconds left, sneers left circle, sot on wait out star.
- 9:35Speaker 14: Yes, hey, mataen head over time, Sharon Marten.
- 9:43Speaker 2: Win's it for Seattle their first two and oh start
- 9:48Speaker 2: and team history too.
- 9:50Speaker 7: On over Vegas?
- 9:52Speaker 15: What was faced on picking up the puck inside the
- 9:54Speaker 15: blue line?
- 9:55Speaker 5: He knew the time on the clock.
- 9:57Speaker 4: Is about seven seconds.
- 9:58Speaker 2: He got a shot off Mcca it was in front,
- 10:01Speaker 2: He finds the rebound, he.
- 10:02Speaker 5: Buries it to to one overtime win.
- 10:05Speaker 1: Bring on the final kicks.
- 10:08Speaker 5: Well in overtime.
- 10:09Speaker 13: Victory over Vegas is sweet, indeed right the Cracking beating
- 10:12Speaker 13: Vegas two to one in front of a sold out
- 10:15Speaker 13: crowd of climate Pledgerina to earn a two winzer start
- 10:18Speaker 13: for the first time in franchise history, and also in
- 10:20Speaker 13: a game where the Kraken getting plenty of chances and
- 10:24Speaker 13: yet the mistakes were few against Vegas that was ever
- 10:27Speaker 13: so important because Joey Decord was locked in once again
- 10:30Speaker 13: with a twenty six save effort, improving the two to
- 10:33Speaker 13: zero here for the regular season as well, but like
- 10:36Speaker 13: the Anaheim game, the Kracking getting the Matty Beaniers line
- 10:39Speaker 13: involved against Vegas. Benier's in Game one, had an assist
- 10:43Speaker 13: on Jared McCann's goal and what was pretty crucial for
- 10:46Speaker 13: a three to one victory over the Ducks on opening night.
- 10:49Speaker 13: But then Benier's this last Saturday, a power play goal
- 10:52Speaker 13: in period two for a one nothing lead and then
- 10:55Speaker 13: helped set up Jared McCann's overtime winner to complete a
- 10:59Speaker 13: multi point game. And he's having a great start here
- 11:02Speaker 13: to this season so far, and the Crack and also
- 11:05Speaker 13: getting their fourth win in sixteen tries lifetime against Vegas
- 11:09Speaker 13: and a walkoff win as well, one night after the
- 11:12Speaker 13: Mariners got one of their own in an Alds postseings
- 11:16Speaker 13: game for the Ages here in Seattle, our attention now
- 11:19Speaker 13: to the lineup. No change is expected here for this evening.
- 11:22Speaker 13: Bertley Catton still yet to make his NHL debut. He is, though,
- 11:26Speaker 13: waiting in a queue of very experienced players on this roster.
- 11:30Speaker 13: The line combos and deep pairs we expect to remain
- 11:33Speaker 13: the same as well. Jeed McCann, Benier's and every left
- 11:36Speaker 13: to right, marchint right, Tolbinen Schwartz with Stevenson and Winterton,
- 11:41Speaker 13: car Jay with Freddie Goodreaux and Yonnie Newman. Deep pairs
- 11:45Speaker 13: also looking like they're going to be staying the same
- 11:47Speaker 13: here for this game. Joey to coord once again in Nett.
- 11:50Speaker 13: The backup is Philip Groupauer and Decord, owning a two
- 11:53Speaker 13: to one record in four games lifetime against Montreal last
- 11:57Speaker 13: year two to zero against the HAPs He had twenty
- 12:00Speaker 13: eight saves out of thirty in a win in at
- 12:03Speaker 13: a two victory this last October. Cracking story lines first,
- 12:07Speaker 13: I'll begin with starting on time. Pretty crucial given the
- 12:10Speaker 13: circumstances here, because an opener at Bell Center brings energy
- 12:14Speaker 13: and a daunting atmosphere for a team to come into
- 12:18Speaker 13: play Montreal. Yet the Crack and Half scored first in
- 12:21Speaker 13: each of their first two games, and they're looking for
- 12:23Speaker 13: more a period one from this last Saturday rather than
- 12:25Speaker 13: period one on Thursday again, Sanaheim. That was a nothing,
- 12:29Speaker 13: nothing game as far as game two of the season,
- 12:31Speaker 13: but the cracking now shot Vegas ninety seven, with Veniers
- 12:35Speaker 13: eventually opening up the scoring in period two. Second story
- 12:40Speaker 13: line is Freddy Gudreaux and a Quebec home coming for him.
- 12:43Speaker 13: He grew up in Brownmond, an hour drive away, so
- 12:47Speaker 13: the emotions could be a little bit higher for him
- 12:50Speaker 13: for a game like this at Montreal. Last time there
- 12:54Speaker 13: not too shabby. When he was with a Minnesota Wild
- 12:56Speaker 13: he had a goal and an assist and that was
- 12:58Speaker 13: a four to nothing win last year. Back on January thirtieth,
- 13:01Speaker 13: this evening of courses, we said he'll play with Ty
- 13:03Speaker 13: Cartiate and Yannie Newman. In the third story line Maddie
- 13:07Speaker 13: Baniers in his line can they keep a good thing going?
- 13:11Speaker 13: Combined line for them in two games seven points Vaneers
- 13:14Speaker 13: as three, mccannon everly have two weech and Venier's vered
- 13:18Speaker 13: against Montreal for his career, owning five points in six games.
- 13:23Speaker 13: Head to head, let's hear more from the Kraken, And
- 13:25Speaker 13: here's Freddy Goodrow on the emotions of being back in Montreal.
- 13:30Speaker 13: And he was asked, does it ever get old?
- 13:33Speaker 16: No, it never, it never does. It's it's a special place,
- 13:37Speaker 16: the building itself, you know, the energy. But it's more
- 13:41Speaker 16: than that to me. It's what it all represents growing
- 13:43Speaker 16: up here. I grew up maybe an hour away from here,
- 13:47Speaker 16: and it's all the people that I grew up with,
- 13:50Speaker 16: my family, you know, my siblings, my parents. It represents
- 13:55Speaker 16: the dream to it also, it's it's a very very
- 13:58Speaker 16: special place. It always feels yeah special.
- 14:02Speaker 5: Here's good.
- 14:03Speaker 13: Roll on with the crack and are all about so
- 14:05Speaker 13: far through two games where he feels parts of their
- 14:08Speaker 13: game are starting to come together.
- 14:10Speaker 16: I think an honest, honest type of game building from
- 14:14Speaker 16: defense first and but not you know, not blocking the
- 14:19Speaker 16: offensive attributes and qualities of everybody after that, but just
- 14:24Speaker 16: having a defensive mindset first and doing the right things defensively,
- 14:28Speaker 16: Like I said, just an honest game and connected, I
- 14:31Speaker 16: think is the most important part. When everybody's connected and
- 14:35Speaker 16: knows where the other one is going to be and
- 14:37Speaker 16: read off of each other, I think we we can
- 14:39Speaker 16: be a good team for sure.
- 14:40Speaker 13: And that's setting an example where he's playing with ty
- 14:42Speaker 13: Krcier and Yannie Newman, saying that so far he's enjoying
- 14:46Speaker 13: them as linemates.
- 14:49Speaker 16: CZ playing with those guys, they're like I said, there
- 14:52Speaker 16: are awesome, awesome players, awesome people. It's you know, so
- 14:55Speaker 16: you can always talk on the bench, you know, just
- 14:57Speaker 16: be honest with each other. But it's just fun. They
- 15:00Speaker 16: extremely ard and guys that works extremely art and create space.
- 15:04Speaker 5: On the ice.
- 15:04Speaker 16: It's always fun to play with. They see the game
- 15:06Speaker 16: well too, so it's it's been really fun.
- 15:10Speaker 13: For the crack An Injury updates side coppol Coco still
- 15:13Speaker 13: out for six weeks with a broken hand and Riker

- 17:36Speaker 13: are courtesy Bet MGM and the line here for tonight
- 17:39Speaker 13: is with Montreal and minus one fifty and the over
- 17:42Speaker 13: under is six. You count down to face Off is
- 17:45Speaker 13: now thirty one minutes away from Bell Center. Your pregame
- 17:48Speaker 13: show is served up by Frostbrewed Corps, Light Choice Chill
- 17:51Speaker 13: Mike Benton again with you back at thirty two Bar
- 17:53Speaker 13: and Grill. Let's talk about Montreal here in this sense.
- 17:56Speaker 13: They made the playoffs last year and their first time
- 17:59Speaker 13: doing that in all all broke a three year playoff
- 18:01Speaker 13: drought as well, and they're a young team on the
- 18:04Speaker 13: rise under head coach Marty san Luis. Last year grabbed
- 18:08Speaker 13: the final wildcard spot ninety one points, record of forty
- 18:10Speaker 13: thirty one and eleven and a coming of age player
- 18:13Speaker 13: they have on their back end could have a bright future.
- 18:16Speaker 13: And Lane Hudson recently signing an eight year extension last
- 18:20Speaker 13: year winning the Calder Trophy, and he's part of a
- 18:22Speaker 13: corps right now that is locked and play, Nick Suzuki,
- 18:25Speaker 13: Cole kaw Field and Uryslavkovski Bell Centers where they play
- 18:30Speaker 13: of course, a cathedral of sorts, a landmark up sorts,
- 18:34Speaker 13: a hockey museum and hockey haloed grounds, the homes of
- 18:37Speaker 13: twenty four Stanley Cup championships, most in NHL history, and
- 18:40Speaker 13: Opening night just hits different and the crack and hat
- 18:43Speaker 13: to answer that challenge here with Montreal owning a four
- 18:46Speaker 13: to one record in their last five home openers, which
- 18:50Speaker 13: tonight will be their one hundred and eighth in the NHL.
- 18:54Speaker 13: The energy at that place, they say, is off the charts,
- 18:57Speaker 13: with seats twenty one thousand, three hundred and two fans
- 19:00Speaker 13: that feels like they are on top of you inside
- 19:04Speaker 13: of the glass. Pregame ceremony is also going to pay
- 19:07Speaker 13: tribute here to a legend in Ken Dryden, passing away
- 19:10Speaker 13: sadly last month, age of seventy eight, but a Hockey
- 19:13Speaker 13: Hall of Famer and a goalie for Montreal's dynasty back
- 19:16Speaker 13: in the late seventies. You won a Stanley Cup, by
- 19:18Speaker 13: the way, six different times as a goalie, and known
- 19:22Speaker 13: for his iconic stance at the stoppage of play, standing
- 19:26Speaker 13: up and his glove and blocker together resting on the
- 19:28Speaker 13: top of his goalie stick. He meant to so many
- 19:32Speaker 13: and Jeff Baker, who grew up in Montreal, now covers
- 19:34Speaker 13: the Kraken for NHL dot Com, and he shared more
- 19:37Speaker 13: and what Ken Dryden meant to so many hockey fans
- 19:40Speaker 13: growing up around in Quebec.
- 19:43Speaker 19: Welling man everything. It was the first goalie I ever
- 19:45Speaker 19: followed on a professional team. I started watching him play
- 19:48Speaker 19: with the Canadians and as it probably seventy five to
- 19:50Speaker 19: seventy sixth seasons was when I first started watching hockey
- 19:54Speaker 19: on a regular basis, I mean, and I got to
- 19:58Speaker 19: see him as a tail end of it. And the
- 20:00Speaker 19: one thing I remember is how frustrated some fans were
- 20:02Speaker 19: getting with Ken Dryden at the tail end of his career.
- 20:05Speaker 19: I mean, people forget when the Canadians won their fourth
- 20:07Speaker 19: straight Stanley Cup in nineteen seventy nine, he wasn't supposed
- 20:11Speaker 19: to start Game two of the finals against the Rangers.
- 20:14Speaker 19: They had lost. The Canadians had lost Game one, I
- 20:16Speaker 19: think by a four to one score in Montreal. It
- 20:19Speaker 19: was a big upset, and then they they pulled Dryden.
- 20:22Speaker 19: They were gonna start Bunny Laarrock for Game two, and
- 20:24Speaker 19: lo Rock got hurt in the warm up and he
- 20:27Speaker 19: couldn't start the game. So Dryden comes in, gives up
- 20:30Speaker 19: like two goals in the first three shots. Fans of
- 20:32Speaker 19: booing him, but by the end of the game, the Canadians,
- 20:34Speaker 19: by the end of the first period, actually the Canadians
- 20:36Speaker 19: had figured things out and we're winning the game again.
- 20:38Speaker 19: They didn't lose the rest of the series. One another
- 20:40Speaker 19: Cup and then Dryden retired. But that's that's kind of
- 20:42Speaker 19: how he went out. And so it's funny people don't
- 20:45Speaker 19: always appreciate greatness when they're seeing it in the moment
- 20:47Speaker 19: in real time. But then you know, when you go
- 20:50Speaker 19: back over time, you kind of you kind of look
- 20:53Speaker 19: and you realize, wow, I got to experience that. So
- 20:55Speaker 19: my life watching hockey was always winning Stanley Cuffs. As
- 20:59Speaker 19: a fan, you know, I never knew what it was
- 21:01Speaker 19: like to struggle and suffer in the wilderness. And then
- 21:03Speaker 19: the minute the team finally lost, it was devastating as
- 21:07Speaker 19: a young fan to see that, and then you kind
- 21:09Speaker 19: of get acclimated to it over the years. But I
- 21:12Speaker 19: mean when I was watching that team back in the day,
- 21:14Speaker 19: I mean they lost two or three games in a row,
- 21:16Speaker 19: there was a coach's head that was going to roll
- 21:18Speaker 19: down the streets and so and so the and I'm
- 21:21Speaker 19: not kidding with you, I mean they fired Alan mcneilis
- 21:24Speaker 19: coach after he won the Stanley Cup in nineteen seventy one.
- 21:26Speaker 19: They forced them to resign. And so, I mean there's
- 21:31Speaker 19: a lot of demands here on coaches. And when I
- 21:35Speaker 19: try to apply that sometimes to my sports writing over
- 21:38Speaker 19: the years in different markets, it was very different because
- 21:40Speaker 19: I grew up in a market where there was completely
- 21:44Speaker 19: no tolerance per second best. I mean, and how did
- 21:47Speaker 19: those coaches manage not to get fired by leaving tour?
- 21:49Speaker 19: You know, that was the problem in Montreal. They just
- 21:53Speaker 19: couldn't do it, so they didn't. They lost I think
- 21:54Speaker 19: eight games one year, they lost ten games the next,
- 21:57Speaker 19: and eleven games the next in the seventies. I mean,
- 21:58Speaker 19: that's that's how they did it, and that became the standards.
- 22:02Speaker 19: So reading Dryden's book, it's interesting, as he talked about,
- 22:05Speaker 19: I read it forty years ago for the first time,
- 22:07Speaker 19: but I mean what suck with me was just how
- 22:10Speaker 19: insecure he seemed about the whole dynasty thing. And even
- 22:14Speaker 19: though everybody looks back, oh they ruled the roots, they
- 22:17Speaker 19: were dynasty. For those guys, it wasn't It was real time.
- 22:19Speaker 19: They had to win every single year and keep winning,
- 22:22Speaker 19: and they never felt confident.
- 22:25Speaker 13: That's how you become a legend in Montreal. Jet Baker
- 22:27Speaker 13: referencing Ken Dryden's book the Game as It's going to
- 22:31Speaker 13: be a pretty emotional evening here for tonight, as Montreal
- 22:34Speaker 13: going to pay tribute here to the lake Ken Dryden
- 22:36Speaker 13: passing on this last month.
- 22:38Speaker 5: The habs last.
- 22:39Speaker 13: Game, they beat Chicago three to two.
- 22:41Speaker 5: Again.
- 22:41Speaker 13: This is game one of four on their homestand Nashville
- 22:44Speaker 13: the Rangers in Buffalo coming up. They're starting goalie for tonight,
- 22:47Speaker 13: Sam Montembau, coming off their career high sixty two games
- 22:51Speaker 13: this last season. He's won two and one in his
- 22:53Speaker 13: career against the Kraken. Your Montreal story lines, First off,
- 22:57Speaker 13: their power play three of fifteen to two begin season,
- 23:00Speaker 13: but they have plenty of weapons, yet the question bears
- 23:03Speaker 13: what are the right combos for Marty san Luis. They
- 23:05Speaker 13: were two of ten in their last contest. Second story
- 23:08Speaker 13: line is Lane Hudson and his work on the back end.
- 23:11Speaker 13: Third game against the Cracket, he owns two assists so
- 23:14Speaker 13: far in his career. Coming up that Rookie of the
- 23:17Speaker 13: Year campaign, he logs a lot of ice time and
- 23:19Speaker 13: right now third on Montreal at twenty one to forty
- 23:22Speaker 13: three per game. And finally, the red hot Zach Bulduke
- 23:25Speaker 13: three goals first three games that leaves Montreal. He was
- 23:28Speaker 13: dealt from Saint Louis to Montreal on July one and
- 23:32Speaker 13: fitting in quite nicely. He'll have second line duties with
- 23:36Speaker 13: Kirby Doc and Brendan Gallagher when we come back Everett

- 25:51Speaker 3: Back inside of Bell Center here in Montreal. Quebec.

- 25:57Speaker 2: show served up by Frostbrew, Course Light, Juoe Chill, the
- 26:00Speaker 2: Global Credit Union Cracking Audio Network. A touching moment in
- 26:03Speaker 2: the building right now is Hall of Fame goaltender Ken
- 26:06Speaker 2: Dryde and passing away on the fit of September only
- 26:10Speaker 2: seven years played in the NHL five Vesna's five cups,
- 26:14Speaker 2: had his number retired here in Montreal, went into the
- 26:17Speaker 2: Hall of Fame and one of the one hundred top
- 26:19Speaker 2: one hundred players of all time back voted back in the.
- 26:22Speaker 3: Late nineties and any old school.
- 26:25Speaker 2: Hockey fan, Ken Dryde was one of those players that
- 26:28Speaker 2: got them into the game of hockey, especially for helping
- 26:30Speaker 2: to revolutionize the goaltender position.
- 26:33Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 26:33Speaker 4: One of the original goaltenders was swagger Yeah, the way
- 26:36Speaker 4: he used to stand in front of the net. And
- 26:38Speaker 4: incidentally the last Canadian to win the Calder Cup. Yeah,
- 26:41Speaker 4: Lane hunts At won last year for the Canadians. Crack
- 26:44Speaker 4: and trying to keep the winning streak going.
- 26:46Speaker 2: Here today in Montreal, to and O to begin the
- 26:48Speaker 2: campaign first time in their brief now five year history
- 26:52Speaker 2: of the Crack and have began a season winning two
- 26:55Speaker 2: games in a row.
- 26:56Speaker 4: Al give us some keys on how they can make
- 26:58Speaker 4: it three well. First of all, I think that you
- 26:59Speaker 4: have to silence the bell center here early. Montreal feeds
- 27:02Speaker 4: off their crowd energy, especially in a home opener. The
- 27:05Speaker 4: Kraken need to get a fast start to push the
- 27:07Speaker 4: pace in the first ten minutes and take the crowd
- 27:10Speaker 4: out of it. An early pressure or a greasy goal
- 27:13Speaker 4: in the first ten minutes in the period is going
- 27:15Speaker 4: to be key. Secondly, win the special team's battle. The
- 27:19Speaker 4: Canadian's power play has looked sharp early in the season
- 27:21Speaker 4: at twenty percent, and the Kraken penalty kill has been
- 27:24Speaker 4: quietly solid. Staining discipline, clearing plucks cleanly and making the
- 27:28Speaker 4: most of their own power play looks could swing the momentum.
- 27:31Speaker 4: And then third, use depth and structure. Montreal's top line
- 27:35Speaker 4: can be deemed, but their depth drops off fast after that.
- 27:39Speaker 4: Seattle's balanced four line attack and commitment to team defense
- 27:42Speaker 4: should wear them down over sixty minutes exactly how the
- 27:45Speaker 4: Kraken can win on the road. If the Kraken can
- 27:48Speaker 4: quiet the Bell Center early, own the special teams and
- 27:51Speaker 4: let their depth do their dirty work, they might just
- 27:54Speaker 4: leave Montreal with another win and leave behind a few
- 27:57Speaker 4: broken hearts in Blue Blanc and Rouge Ho.
- 28:01Speaker 2: Look at you, well, French education here in Montreal. Last
- 28:05Speaker 2: time these two teams met in this building, Kraken picked
- 28:08Speaker 2: up an eight to two win Brandon Montour four point nine,
- 28:11Speaker 2: three goals and an assist there the Crack and also
- 28:14Speaker 2: three power play.
- 28:15Speaker 3: Goals in that game.
- 28:16Speaker 2: You talked about the special teams, and I think, looking
- 28:19Speaker 2: at this game for Seattle, the style that we've seen
- 28:22Speaker 2: these first couple of games for the Kracking, special teams
- 28:25Speaker 2: potentially could play a big role in this contest.
- 28:27Speaker 4: Yeah, absolutely, Ken, And like I said, you know, power
- 28:29Speaker 4: plays for both these teams at the same level right now,
- 28:32Speaker 4: small sample size, I get it early in the season,
- 28:35Speaker 4: but I think that if you win that special teams battle,
- 28:37Speaker 4: I have no doubt that Seattle can win.
- 28:39Speaker 2: The five to one five Kracking just two goals allowed
- 28:42Speaker 2: in their first two games of a season, their second
- 28:46Speaker 2: fewest going back twenty twenty two, twenty three, when they
- 28:49Speaker 2: allowed six goals in a span of two games. Coming
- 28:53Speaker 2: into this road trip, Bow you know, this is the
- 28:55Speaker 2: first of two six game road trips for Seattle. A
- 28:59Speaker 2: coach will tell you they like getting out on the road.
- 29:02Speaker 2: Players enjoyed early season lengthy road trips. You can bond,
- 29:06Speaker 2: you get to be with the guys, And I feel
- 29:08Speaker 2: like this road trip looking forward can really be one
- 29:12Speaker 2: of success for Seattle. You've got some challenging teams, You've
- 29:16Speaker 2: got some teams that you should beat, but you can't
- 29:18Speaker 2: start a road trip on a positive note without winning
- 29:21Speaker 2: the first game. And I think here today the Kraken
- 29:24Speaker 2: really are gonna have to try to silence a lot
- 29:27Speaker 2: like you.
- 29:27Speaker 3: Said of those young stars for Montreal.
- 29:29Speaker 4: Yeah, and like I said, the first ten minutes this
- 29:32Speaker 4: game might tell the story for the remaining fifty minutes
- 29:34Speaker 4: of it. I think the Krack can have to win
- 29:36Speaker 4: that first ten minutes, even if it's zero zero or
- 29:38Speaker 4: ten minutes.
- 29:39Speaker 5: They've got to go toe to toe.
- 29:40Speaker 4: They've got to hold back that charge that you know
- 29:43Speaker 4: Montreal is gonna bring, especially in this full building, home
- 29:46Speaker 4: crowd home opener. So you've got to find a way
- 29:48Speaker 4: to tamp that down.
- 29:49Speaker 2: And looking at Montreal, we touched a little bit on
- 29:50Speaker 2: the Lane Hudson extension, the Calder Trophy winning Rookie of
- 29:53Speaker 2: the Year defenseman from last season six goals and sixty assists,
- 29:56Speaker 2: the first Montreal Canadian to win the call Older Trophy
- 30:00Speaker 2: in the expansion era since Ken Drive did it a
- 30:03Speaker 2: while back in the sixties or the early seventies rather.
- 30:06Speaker 2: But when you look at this Montreal team, they're young,
- 30:08Speaker 2: they're hungry. They remind me a little bit of an
- 30:10Speaker 2: Anaheim Ducks team, except they are a little bit older
- 30:13Speaker 2: than Anaheim. Last year making their first playoff appearance in
- 30:17Speaker 2: three seasons since going to the Cup Final and that
- 30:20Speaker 2: abbreviated season due to COVID. But a lot to be
- 30:23Speaker 2: happy and proud about here in Montreal.
- 30:26Speaker 3: Move it forward.
- 30:26Speaker 4: Yeah, we talked about the youth and with that youth
- 30:29Speaker 4: typically comes speed. But you know that Caulfield Suzuki Slabkowski
- 30:33Speaker 4: line just top notch there. They picked up Noah Dobson
- 30:37Speaker 4: in the summertime. He adds a lot. Lane Hudson, enough said,
- 30:40Speaker 4: called the trophy winner last year, and they've got grit
- 30:42Speaker 4: as well. Brendan Gallagher brings a lot of that, as
- 30:45Speaker 4: does Jack Guy.
- 30:46Speaker 3: That Core locked up through twenty thirty and beyond.
- 30:50Speaker 2: For Montreal, the Canadians have won twelve straight at home
- 30:54Speaker 2: dating back to last season. They've won three in a
- 30:56Speaker 2: row and for their last five home openers as well.
- 31:00Speaker 2: You know who's perfect though, and road openers and home
- 31:04Speaker 2: openers and just overall in general, a perfect one thousand record.

- 33:57Speaker 13: those famous press box hot dogs out at Bell Center.
- 34:00Speaker 5: But for now, let's check.
- 34:01Speaker 13: Back in here for the conversation ever it had with
- 34:04Speaker 13: head coach Lane Lambert.
- 34:07Speaker 17: When I got hired that there wasn't really talk about culture.
- 34:10Speaker 5: I think that was a little further. I think when
- 34:13Speaker 5: I got hired.
- 34:13Speaker 1: It was who was trying to raise the group emotionally
- 34:17Speaker 1: more than anything.
- 34:19Speaker 16: So I think that was priority number one.
- 34:21Speaker 5: And you can't come in and.
- 34:31Speaker 13: We're gonna get to Lane Lambert here in just a
- 34:33Speaker 13: bit as again, the Kracking getting set for Montreal in
- 34:36Speaker 13: game one of six here for their road trip. It's
- 34:39Speaker 13: going to be a pretty challenging one. Must check back
- 34:41Speaker 13: back in right now, Everett with Lane Lambert standing by.
- 34:46Speaker 2: Thanks Mike, we are back with the head coach of
- 34:48Speaker 2: the undefeated Seattle crack in Lane Lambert. Lane a perfect
- 34:51Speaker 2: two and Oho went home to begin the year two
- 34:54Speaker 2: to one thrilling overtime win against Vegas. What in your
- 34:58Speaker 2: mind was the analysts to that victory for Seattle against
- 35:01Speaker 2: the Golden Knights.
- 35:03Speaker 23: I thought we you know, I just thought we competed.
- 35:06Speaker 23: We had a game plan going in, we stuck to
- 35:08Speaker 23: the game plan, and you know, I thought we turned
- 35:14Speaker 23: the game into a low event game, which you know,
- 35:19Speaker 23: in my mind worked to our advantage and we took
- 35:21Speaker 23: advantage of our opportunities. So, you know, there's there's a formula,
- 35:28Speaker 23: and I thought the guys did a really good job
- 35:30Speaker 23: of sticking to that formula. We had some greatest saves
- 35:33Speaker 23: when we needed them, and of course so did they.
- 35:35Speaker 23: So it was a very close hockey game.
- 35:38Speaker 2: After a slow start against Anaheim, you guys bounce back
- 35:41Speaker 2: in the second and third periods, wasting little time against
- 35:43Speaker 2: the Vegas Golden Knights getting off to that good start.
- 35:46Speaker 2: What was the message to the group going into that game?
- 35:49Speaker 2: And where do you find the biggest differences between game
- 35:52Speaker 2: one and game two live for Seattle.
- 35:54Speaker 23: I just think that, you know, the starts for both
- 35:56Speaker 23: games were different because the first one was the first game.
- 36:00Speaker 23: The first one was a bit of nerves home opener,
- 36:02Speaker 23: all that stuff, and then the second one, I think
- 36:04Speaker 23: we settled more in and you know, not everything was
- 36:09Speaker 23: quote unquote new, whether it be you know, coming to
- 36:13Speaker 23: the rank, what are the meetings look like this that
- 36:15Speaker 23: you know, everything was just a little bit more, you know,
- 36:19Speaker 23: I guess familiar, and it led to us getting to
- 36:23Speaker 23: a better start.
- 36:24Speaker 2: Looking at some individual performances from the first two games,
- 36:27Speaker 2: Matty Beneers, Jared McCann, Joey Decord, all three of those
- 36:30Speaker 2: players have made big contributions for this team. What have
- 36:34Speaker 2: you liked about the leaders the vets on this team?
- 36:37Speaker 2: Being your best players to kick off this campaign.
- 36:40Speaker 23: Well, Joey's been outstanding. Obviously, he's made you know, he
- 36:42Speaker 23: made some huge saves in the Anaheim game and we
- 36:45Speaker 23: needed them. He made some big saves in the Vegas
- 36:47Speaker 23: game as well. Certainly they had some opportunities in the
- 36:50Speaker 23: first period again, but so did we, you know. And McCann,
- 36:56Speaker 23: you know, he's obviously the overtime goal, but certainly the
- 37:00Speaker 23: goal against Anaheim to give us a little breathing room
- 37:03Speaker 23: and the start of the third period. He's a high
- 37:06Speaker 23: skilled guy and he's a goal scorer, and you know,
- 37:09Speaker 23: it's nice to see him get off to a good start.
- 37:11Speaker 23: Mattie Beniers has played very well. You know, he's played
- 37:16Speaker 23: a two hundred foot game and he's done a lot
- 37:18Speaker 23: of good things in both ends of the rink.
- 37:20Speaker 2: The preseason's over, You've gotten two games under your belt
- 37:23Speaker 2: with your group. Where do you find this team has
- 37:26Speaker 2: improved the most? And a lot of coaches will say
- 37:28Speaker 2: it continues to be a work in progress. But how
- 37:30Speaker 2: have you liked that progress these first two games compared
- 37:34Speaker 2: to where they were against the final few preseason games.
- 37:37Speaker 23: Yeah, I mean, you know, we've got our team together,
- 37:40Speaker 23: you know, that's that's the other thing about the first game,
- 37:43Speaker 23: maybe the first periods, we hadn't had our team together
- 37:45Speaker 23: really necessarily through throughout exhibition. We've got our team together
- 37:49Speaker 23: and we're you know, again I will say it's a
- 37:51Speaker 23: work in progress. You know, we've we're coming together. We're
- 37:56Speaker 23: starting to do more things than than not about what
- 38:01Speaker 23: we've talked about throughout training camp, and you know, we
- 38:04Speaker 23: just got to continue to grow and get better. Where
- 38:06Speaker 23: you have an extreme challenge here tonight against Montreal. You
- 38:10Speaker 23: know they're a fast team, extremely fast, fast team at
- 38:14Speaker 23: home and we're going to need a good start to
- 38:17Speaker 23: this hockey game.
