- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome everyone to the Thursday edition of Fair Territory. I'm
- 0:03Speaker 1: Ken Rosenthal, and we want to open the show by
- 0:06Speaker 1: congratulating the Red Sox on their fifteen game winning streak,
- 0:09Speaker 1: matching the longest Enfranchise history. It is over now, but
- 0:13Speaker 1: it's certainly worth remembering and mentioning, and just a good
- 0:18Speaker 1: way to get into what we're going to talk about,
- 0:20Speaker 1: which is the deadline. And I am here today with
- 0:22Speaker 1: my co host one of my favorite colleagues from the Athletic,
- 0:26Speaker 1: Great Reporter, Great writer, Britt Gioli. Britt, let's talk some deadline.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Thanks for having me, Ken, Yes, let's definitely talk some deadline.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Derek Scooble, Obviously you've already written a lot about him.
- 0:38Speaker 2: You're going to write about him. It feels like for
- 0:40Speaker 2: the next two weeks, every single day, our colleague Cody S.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Davenhagen terrific column about Schooble. I suggest you read it
- 0:47Speaker 2: a lot of nuanced to what was going on with
- 0:49Speaker 2: the injury and whatnot. But Ken, as we sit here today,
- 0:52Speaker 2: he is the biggest name at this trade deadline. He's
- 0:55Speaker 2: a name who may not be traded because the Tigers
- 0:57Speaker 2: are four and a half games back of the wildcard,
- 1:00Speaker 2: roughly a thirty percent chance to make the playoffs. But
- 1:03Speaker 2: as you wrote with Will Salmon, there's a unique path
- 1:06Speaker 2: to the Tigers trading him but also not giving on
- 1:09Speaker 2: on this season.
- 1:10Speaker 1: What is that right and the way they would do it, Britt,
- 1:13Speaker 1: And I'm not saying this will happen. I'm predicting this
- 1:16Speaker 1: will happen, but this is something that they have discussed
- 1:18Speaker 1: and mentioned to other teams. The way they would do
- 1:21Speaker 1: it is by getting a controllable starting picture of some
- 1:25Speaker 1: quality back and in addition to that prospects. So what
- 1:29Speaker 1: you're doing there is you're covering yourself for the present
- 1:33Speaker 1: and for the future. You're getting the present value of
- 1:36Speaker 1: the controllable starter who would replace Schooble in the rotation
- 1:39Speaker 1: backfill His innings wouldn't be the same, of course, but
- 1:43Speaker 1: would enable you to still contend. And then you have
- 1:45Speaker 1: that picture for the future, and you have the prospects
- 1:48Speaker 1: for the future as well. Now, if you remember, Britt,
- 1:51Speaker 1: and I know you do, remember this, twenty twenty two,
- 1:54Speaker 1: the Brewers did the same thing with Josh had tried
- 1:57Speaker 1: to make the same kind of trade and it basically
- 2:01Speaker 1: completely backfired. Short term clubhouse didn't like it, fans didn't
- 2:06Speaker 1: like it. They went south with the season, eventually missed
- 2:10Speaker 1: the playoffs after having one of the best records in
- 2:13Speaker 1: the league, and it just didn't work. They got back
- 2:16Speaker 1: Taylor Rogers, he was supposed to replace Hater. They got
- 2:19Speaker 1: some other pieces that ultimately led to good things. Robert
- 2:22Speaker 1: Gasler is now part of their pitching mix, and as
- 2:25Speaker 1: Storry Ruiz, they traded for William Contreras. It all worked
- 2:28Speaker 1: out great in the end, but at the time not
- 2:32Speaker 1: so great. So here are the Tigers with schoobl If
- 2:35Speaker 1: they're gonna have any chance of really doing something this season,
- 2:40Speaker 1: and when I say something, I mean not making the playoffs,
- 2:42Speaker 1: but contending for a World Series title, Schooble has to
- 2:46Speaker 1: be on their team. But if they determine this really
- 2:50Speaker 1: isn't going to happen, then perhaps they do something along
- 2:54Speaker 1: the lines of what will and I reported I'm not
- 2:56Speaker 1: sure how it's going to go. It all depends, really,
- 2:59Speaker 1: I believe, on what happens the next ten days or so,
- 3:02Speaker 1: where they are health wise, where they are in the standings.
- 3:06Speaker 1: But they are going to be looking at some interesting
- 3:08Speaker 1: options for sure.
- 3:11Speaker 2: And a lot can change I mean years ago in
- 3:13Speaker 2: Wan Soto was the guy that felt like he was
- 3:15Speaker 2: a name who probably wasn't going to get moved.
- 3:17Speaker 3: Obviously he did get moved.
- 3:18Speaker 2: If teams get desperate enough, if Scott Harris sees a
- 3:21Speaker 2: package that is enticing enough, it is a tough sell
- 3:23Speaker 2: for this fan base, though, Ken, two years ago, they
- 3:26Speaker 2: stumbled in after Scott Harris sold off a lot of
- 3:28Speaker 2: expiring deals at the deadline, went on that magical run
- 3:31Speaker 2: to get into the playoffs. Last year a disappointment, and
- 3:34Speaker 2: now if you do deal Scooble, what are you saying
- 3:37Speaker 2: to your fan base.
- 3:38Speaker 3: You know, we think we're good enough to get in,
- 3:40Speaker 3: but not all the way in.
- 3:41Speaker 2: It is going to be tough to judge Scott Harris's
- 3:44Speaker 2: legacy and what he's been able to do if he does,
- 3:46Speaker 2: in fact trade Schooble, Because of course, Ken, they could
- 3:49Speaker 2: also get a pick for him, they wouldn't totally be
- 3:51Speaker 2: left high and dry. There is value to rolling.
- 3:54Speaker 1: That dice, no question, and I am totally with you
- 3:58Speaker 1: on what a tough sell this would be. And one
- 4:01Speaker 1: of the reasons the tough cell not just because you're
- 4:03Speaker 1: trading a back to back that young winner that maybe
- 4:05Speaker 1: is the main reason. But the other part of this
- 4:08Speaker 1: is the American League as we know, is not good.
- 4:12Speaker 1: So who is to say the Tigers with Scooble, if
- 4:16Speaker 1: they get whole physically, cannot make a run for the
- 4:20Speaker 1: World Series. There is no reason to believe that they
- 4:22Speaker 1: can't based on what we're seeing. Yanks are not invincible,
- 4:26Speaker 1: Rays are not invincible. No team in this league is
- 4:29Speaker 1: even that good. The Red Sox for the worst team
- 4:32Speaker 1: in the league, suddenly they have a playoff spot about
- 4:35Speaker 1: two and a half weeks later, three weeks later. So
- 4:38Speaker 1: this is all part of the stew as you might say,
- 4:42Speaker 1: with what Scott Harris is going to have to figure
- 4:45Speaker 1: out here, and maybe the best thing or the easiest
- 4:48Speaker 1: thing is not to trade him, because you're not disrupting
- 4:51Speaker 1: what could be a playoff n World Series run. No
- 4:54Speaker 1: matter what you do, if you do trade him, you're
- 4:58Speaker 1: not going to be in as strong a position for
- 5:00Speaker 1: the World Series. There's no question about that, or the
- 5:02Speaker 1: playoffs for that matter. So this all has to be
- 5:05Speaker 1: factored in, and you're absolutely right. We've still got a
- 5:07Speaker 1: lot of time until the deadline ten days or so.
- 5:10Speaker 1: So as you mentioned, britt A lot can change over
- 5:14Speaker 1: those next ten days.
- 5:16Speaker 4: What if you can actually have it all? And I'm
- 5:18Speaker 4: talking about mint Mobile taking the premium wireless bouginess crats,
- 5:24Speaker 4: but then bringing it to the transparency in pricing and
- 5:27Speaker 4: the affordability in pricing. They're gonna lay everything out there
- 5:32Speaker 4: with a cheap bill that you know what everybody can
- 5:35Speaker 4: handle right now. You can even bring your current phone
- 5:38Speaker 4: and your number if you're thinking about it and you're like,
- 5:40Speaker 4: I'm worried about that, No worries. They have you covered
- 5:42Speaker 4: because they're able to convert people all the time to
- 5:46Speaker 4: the Mintmobile way. Go to mintmobile dot com slash territory.
- 5:49Speaker 4: That's mintmobile dot com slash territory. Cut your wireless bill
- 5:52Speaker 4: of fifteen bucks a month at mintmobile dot com slash territory.
- 5:55Speaker 3: That's it.
- 5:55Speaker 4: There's no catch upfront payment of forty five dollars for
- 5:58Speaker 4: three months, ninety dollars for six months, or one hundred
- 6:01Speaker 4: and eighty dollars for twelve month. Plan required fifteen dollars
- 6:03Speaker 4: per month equivalent taxes and fees extra initial plan term
- 6:07Speaker 4: only greater than fifty gigabytes may slow when network is busy.
- 6:10Speaker 4: Includes up to twenty gigabyte hotspot capable device required availability,
- 6:14Speaker 4: speed and coverage varies Cementmobile dot Com.
- 6:18Speaker 2: One team that I think we can both agree on
- 6:19Speaker 2: ken that is trending to sell is the Toronto Blue
- 6:22Speaker 2: Jays and just a fascinating case study coming off the
- 6:25Speaker 2: World Series, a World Series appearance that they narrowly lost.
- 6:29Speaker 2: They came very close to winning the World Series. Bring
- 6:31Speaker 2: back pretty much that whole group just be set with
- 6:33Speaker 2: injuries early on in the season, never found their footing
- 6:36Speaker 2: rank thirtieth right now in runs scored. Just everything that
- 6:39Speaker 2: can go wrong has gone wrong. And you tweeted yesterday
- 6:43Speaker 2: about Kevin Gosman's no trade claus to those eight teams.
- 6:46Speaker 2: None of those teams seem like viable suitors anyway, so
- 6:50Speaker 2: it looks like Gossman would be the guy to go.
- 6:52Speaker 3: When you look at a team like Toronto.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Though they don't have a whole lot of pieces here,
- 6:57Speaker 2: are they going to you think retool here?
- 6:59Speaker 3: And this is not like rebuild situation.
- 7:01Speaker 2: They're going to have to trade whatever they can and
- 7:03Speaker 2: then hope to go for it again next year. And
- 7:05Speaker 2: what can a guy like Gossman even realistically land them?
- 7:09Speaker 1: He hasn't pitched that well, but he's still Kevin Gosman,
- 7:11Speaker 1: and I would expect that if he is out there,
- 7:15Speaker 1: and it certainly appears he's going to be out there,
- 7:17Speaker 1: that the Blue Jays could get something decent for him.
- 7:21Speaker 1: They have some other interesting players as well, Dalton VARs Show,
- 7:25Speaker 1: George Springer, not George Springer of old, but he could
- 7:28Speaker 1: help a team. Jeff Hoffman in the bullpen. What is
- 7:32Speaker 1: shocking about this is that everyone expected, even as recently,
- 7:36Speaker 1: I would say is a week ago, that this team
- 7:39Speaker 1: was going to wake up, was going to become more
- 7:42Speaker 1: of what we saw at the end of last season
- 7:45Speaker 1: into October and really be a factor in the American League.
- 7:49Speaker 1: And right now it's really difficult to see them that way.
- 7:52Speaker 1: So one of the more shocking things in this season,
- 7:56Speaker 1: the season in which we've had a lot of surprises
- 7:59Speaker 1: the other way. The White Sox for instance, the Cardinals,
- 8:02Speaker 1: the Nationals, these are teams that surprised us in a
- 8:04Speaker 1: good way. The Jays have surprised us in a bad way.
- 8:08Speaker 1: And now yes, it definitely appears they're trending towards sellers.
- 8:12Speaker 1: And what Mitch Bannon wrote yesterday about Kevin Gossman just
- 8:16Speaker 1: how emotional he was. He has grown so attached to Toronto,
- 8:20Speaker 1: and now it appears he might go.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Yeah, And I think there's going to be a lot
- 8:25Speaker 2: of teams ken who at at the last minute, are
- 8:27Speaker 2: going to realize, hey, especially in the American League, we
- 8:29Speaker 2: maybe don't have a shot here. We may buy or sell,
- 8:32Speaker 2: which seems to be like an on the fence kind
- 8:34Speaker 2: of move. The Orioles in a similar situation. They did
- 8:36Speaker 2: beat the Red Sox. As you mentioned, their streak ended
- 8:39Speaker 2: last night. They were able to beat the Red Sox,
- 8:41Speaker 2: but a bad week or a good week could really
- 8:43Speaker 2: sway that team either way.
- 8:45Speaker 3: As well.
- 8:46Speaker 2: It looks like, you know, not to just harp on
- 8:47Speaker 2: the American League, but as you said, they're so convoluted
- 8:50Speaker 2: and they're so bogged down, and every team is so
- 8:52Speaker 2: in it, and this Red Sox streak has made a
- 8:54Speaker 2: team that looked as little as two and a half
- 8:57Speaker 2: three weeks ago to be a bonafide seller, be a
- 9:00Speaker 2: team that had some pitching and had some interesting players
- 9:02Speaker 2: other teams could pillage. Now the Red Sox are going
- 9:05Speaker 2: for it as they should. And you look at this
- 9:08Speaker 2: now and if you're the Baltimore Royals, I don't know
- 9:11Speaker 2: what you do here.
- 9:12Speaker 3: I don't know if you can do anything here.
- 9:14Speaker 2: You had an interesting column mentioning Alie Rushman among several
- 9:17Speaker 2: other catchers. Are they a team that you feel like
- 9:20Speaker 2: is not going to make that decision till maybe a
- 9:21Speaker 2: day or two before the deadline?
- 9:24Speaker 1: Yes, and britt their situation is complicated, as you know,
- 9:29Speaker 1: by the fact that both of their catchers now Rushman
- 9:32Speaker 1: and Samuel Bissio, are on the injured list. So here
- 9:35Speaker 1: they are in need of making a push, and they're
- 9:40Speaker 1: not really in great position to make a push now.
- 9:42Speaker 1: They're starting pitching over the last six weeks or so
- 9:45Speaker 1: has been really good and it looks like it's going
- 9:48Speaker 1: to continue to be really good into the near future.
- 9:50Speaker 1: But what are we talking about here? And they're going
- 9:54Speaker 1: to be, it seems to me, in a position where
- 9:56Speaker 1: they're going to have to make a call, and maybe
- 9:59Speaker 1: the call is going to be not to do much
- 10:00Speaker 1: of anything at all. But at the same time, Mike
- 10:04Speaker 1: Elias is a president based operations who is under some
- 10:08Speaker 1: scrutiny now he is maybe in trouble. How will that
- 10:12Speaker 1: affect things? He says it won't. He'll do what's best
- 10:14Speaker 1: for the organization, but what's best for the organization is
- 10:17Speaker 1: not exactly clear right now.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Yeah, it's gonna be fascinating Ken. I'm sure you're gonna
- 10:23Speaker 2: have a lot more to talk about this. We're gonna
- 10:24Speaker 2: take a quick break. We're gonna get back to your
- 10:26Speaker 2: questions grilling Ken here in just a moment. All right,
- 10:36Speaker 2: welcome back to fair Territory. We are here with Ken
- 10:39Speaker 2: Rosenthal and Bridge Roli. It is grilling Ken time, which
- 10:42Speaker 2: is great. I should have submitted a question in advance, Ken,
- 10:44Speaker 2: I was slacking, But we will get to your questions,
- 10:47Speaker 2: starting with at Wicked Better fifty four.
- 10:50Speaker 3: He wants to know Ken.
- 10:51Speaker 2: In your latest article, you wrote the Dbacks could face
- 10:54Speaker 2: peril limitations. How much of an impact will that have
- 10:57Speaker 2: on their plans? Also, if they trade a reliever, who
- 11:00Speaker 2: you think it will be.
- 11:01Speaker 1: It's interesting they've come on a little bit and we
- 11:03Speaker 1: don't talk about them much. They're not the sexiest of teams,
- 11:06Speaker 1: but they're in the mix here. And the payroll limitations
- 11:11Speaker 1: would be somewhat related to the luxury tax. They're not
- 11:14Speaker 1: that far under it's something like eighteen million, but they're
- 11:17Speaker 1: not going to make moves that would add eighteen million
- 11:19Speaker 1: to the luxury tax payroll. So it's a question of
- 11:22Speaker 1: what their owner, Ken Kendrick, would be willing to do.
- 11:25Speaker 1: And keep in mind, he's already done quite a bit.
- 11:28Speaker 1: They have spent pretty liberally in recent years, aggressively in
- 11:32Speaker 1: trying to get better. And yes, I did mention in
- 11:35Speaker 1: that same article that they could trade out of their bullpen.
- 11:38Speaker 1: I'm not exactly sure who it would be. This is
- 11:41Speaker 1: all premised on the relievers coming back. The reliever coming
- 11:46Speaker 1: back Martinez, Justin Martinez, and if he will be in
- 11:50Speaker 1: good form now they won't know that necessarily before the deadline.
- 11:53Speaker 1: He's not expected back until early August. But if they
- 11:57Speaker 1: feel that he's going to be back and okay and
- 12:00Speaker 1: I need to contribute in that role, maybe they trade
- 12:02Speaker 1: I don't know, or Ryan Thompson, someone along those lines.
- 12:05Speaker 1: I'm just picking out a name. I'm not saying that's
- 12:07Speaker 1: the guy, but they could possibly do that because they
- 12:10Speaker 1: do have some depth in that pen if Martinez is healthy.
- 12:15Speaker 2: Ken, I know you wrote about this in your article,
- 12:17Speaker 2: but I'm asking you to expound on it a little bit.
- 12:20Speaker 2: Video game in Nation twenty six wants to know will
- 12:22Speaker 2: the Rockies trade catcher, Hunter Goodman.
- 12:24Speaker 1: Or not right? And these two questioners Brick Britt so
- 12:29Speaker 1: far two of our regular questioners, so I appreciate them
- 12:32Speaker 1: checking in as always. Hunter Goodman is a guy that
- 12:36Speaker 1: I don't expect the Rockies to trade three years of
- 12:39Speaker 1: control after this one. That's one reason. The other thing
- 12:42Speaker 1: is they are looking at the team like this, who
- 12:47Speaker 1: is going to get us? Which of our players will
- 12:49Speaker 1: get us to our next ninety win season? They haven't
- 12:52Speaker 1: had one in a while, and Hunter Goodmin certainly can
- 12:54Speaker 1: be one of them. Hunter Goodman also can be a
- 12:57Speaker 1: guy who can bring them X, Y and Z that
- 13:00Speaker 1: can get them to ninety wins, maybe even faster than
- 13:03Speaker 1: they would with him. But this is a decision where, yeah,
- 13:07Speaker 1: if they get overwhelmed, they'll do it. But at the
- 13:09Speaker 1: same time, they've got many opportunities to trade him over
- 13:13Speaker 1: the next couple of years if they don't get the
- 13:16Speaker 1: offer they want, so I don't expect it to happen.
- 13:20Speaker 1: He is kind of a pivotal guy on what they're doing.
- 13:22Speaker 1: They're making progress here, and do you want to blow
- 13:25Speaker 1: it up by trading him for young players that are
- 13:28Speaker 1: less proven. I don't know that would be a great
- 13:30Speaker 1: message for them to send. Certainly, though they have a
- 13:34Speaker 1: big piece here and it doesn't have to be today,
- 13:37Speaker 1: it doesn't have to be tomorrow. There's no urgency to
- 13:39Speaker 1: move him. But obviously they're gonna listen to everything.
- 13:44Speaker 2: Yeah, it'll be an interesting first deadline for that Rockies
- 13:47Speaker 2: front office, first year under Paul d but Essa Josh.
- 13:49Speaker 3: Burns Ken, let's talk about the Mets.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Our next question are at Armand is amazing If he
- 13:54Speaker 2: wants to know, Ken, how many players will the Mets trade?
- 13:56Speaker 2: I want them to copy the Twins, but they did
- 13:58Speaker 2: last year and not so certain that's the best team
- 14:01Speaker 2: that we want to be copying. But anyway, they traded
- 14:03Speaker 2: eleven plus players. Do you see that happening?
- 14:06Speaker 1: Armand is another regular brit and we thank him as well.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Eleven players That would surprise me. But certainly they have
- 14:14Speaker 1: things that they can do, and start with the bullpen
- 14:18Speaker 1: with Minter and Rally, the two lefties there are unexpiring
- 14:21Speaker 1: contracts they're going to go. Would Luke Weaver and braz
- 14:24Speaker 1: Demon to righty's who are not unexpiring contracts possibly go Yes,
- 14:28Speaker 1: if the Mets got the right offer, then you have
- 14:31Speaker 1: Francisco Alvarez, you have Luis Robert Junior. All of these
- 14:35Speaker 1: players have been mentioned so far. Lindor, I don't see
- 14:39Speaker 1: that happening. Not out of the question, but that's more
- 14:42Speaker 1: of an offseason move if they indeed want to make it.
- 14:45Speaker 1: And then you've got guys like Vientos and Batty and
- 14:49Speaker 1: even Ronnie Mauricio. Are they part of the Mets future
- 14:52Speaker 1: and could they bring the Mets something that possibly could
- 14:56Speaker 1: help them more down the line. So those are a
- 14:59Speaker 1: lot lot of names there. I don't know if we
- 15:01Speaker 1: got to eleven or not, Britten, but I do expect
- 15:04Speaker 1: the Mets to be active. Oh and I forgot Freddy
- 15:06Speaker 1: Peralta of course and Clay Holmes. Those are two of
- 15:08Speaker 1: the biggest. So yeah, they're gonna do some things. I
- 15:11Speaker 1: don't know if they'll get to eleven, but yeah, they'll
- 15:13Speaker 1: have a lot of activity, no doubt.
- 15:16Speaker 2: I am in the trade barras a bond trade weaver.
- 15:18Speaker 2: Camp relievers are so fickle, you gotta do what you
- 15:20Speaker 2: gotta do. Ken next question comes from at Laser Show
- 15:23Speaker 2: fifteen dash U four K. He said, love the show.
- 15:27Speaker 2: The Dodgers' outfield prospects are mostly blocked. Do they have
- 15:30Speaker 2: the best package for Schooble.
- 15:33Speaker 1: They could, and certainly they have four or five outfield prospects,
- 15:38Speaker 1: several of whom are in the top one hundred any
- 15:41Speaker 1: top one hundred list you might want to see, so
- 15:43Speaker 1: they could do some things. If it's not Schooble, or
- 15:46Speaker 1: if it is Schooble now they could also be one
- 15:49Speaker 1: of the teams if they're in the mix for school
- 15:52Speaker 1: but that could offer a starting picture back. It could
- 15:54Speaker 1: be Emma Chen who I mentioned in the column with
- 15:57Speaker 1: Will Simon. I guess it could be Eric Lauer, who
- 16:00Speaker 1: is of course expiring contract, would be a free agent
- 16:03Speaker 1: for free agent kind of thing, but he would be
- 16:05Speaker 1: helpful to a team trying to stay in the race.
- 16:08Speaker 1: So they can do it. They have a terrific system.
- 16:13Speaker 1: They are a team that really wants to win three
- 16:16Speaker 1: straight right before the payrolls restrictions whatever they're going to
- 16:19Speaker 1: look like set in. Whether they will do it remains
- 16:22Speaker 1: to be seen. You've heard it all before. Andrew Friedman
- 16:26Speaker 1: hates overpaying it the deadline. He would rather not. But
- 16:29Speaker 1: at the same time, Andrew Friedman and the Los Angeles
- 16:32Speaker 1: Dodgers like to win, and they've proven that time and again.
- 16:36Speaker 3: Yes they have Ken. We're gonna switch gears here.
- 16:38Speaker 2: To the Yankees where JJ lasa JS Lonnie nine six
- 16:44Speaker 2: three four wants to know Ken. What will it take
- 16:46Speaker 2: to acquire Luisa Rise? Obviously with the Giants for the Yankees.
- 16:53Speaker 1: Giants are going to want either major league ready players
- 16:57Speaker 1: or guys who have a real chance now arise as
- 17:01Speaker 1: a potential free agent. He's not going to bring the moon,
- 17:03Speaker 1: but he's having a terrific year. He is someone who
- 17:06Speaker 1: I believe, because of his high contact ability, is really
- 17:09Speaker 1: a valuable addition to a team. I know he's been
- 17:13Speaker 1: a polarizing player in the analytic community and there are
- 17:16Speaker 1: people who say it's not the value that you really want,
- 17:19Speaker 1: But there are a lot of things he does really well.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Some things he doesn't do hardly at all, hit for power,
- 17:24Speaker 1: So yes, he has value. He will bring the Giants
- 17:27Speaker 1: something good, not exactly sure what it will be. And
- 17:32Speaker 1: I don't know that the Yankees would be a team
- 17:34Speaker 1: for him. They've got Jazz at second base already, and
- 17:37Speaker 1: Eriz wants to play second base, so I would expect
- 17:41Speaker 1: this is going to happen. Of course, we all know
- 17:43Speaker 1: he's getting traded it's just a matter of where.
- 17:47Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think there's going to be There's always
- 17:49Speaker 2: sleeper teams, right, Ken. I think the Rais are a
- 17:51Speaker 2: team to watch. I think there's some more aggressive teams
- 17:53Speaker 2: that you know, everyone loves a mystery team. This could
- 17:56Speaker 2: be a big trade deadline for mystery teams. Dudeen dorc
- 17:59Speaker 2: Is coming up. But let's preview ken Saturday game on
- 18:02Speaker 2: Fox with Fox.
- 18:03Speaker 3: One streaming now.
- 18:11Speaker 2: All right, Ken, let's see what are you looking forward
- 18:14Speaker 2: to you here for your Saturday game on Fox.
- 18:16Speaker 1: I am looking forward, Britt, to the game being played.
- 18:18Speaker 1: We've had a problem with that on our Fox broadcast
- 18:21Speaker 1: this year. We've had three rainouts in games that I've
- 18:24Speaker 1: been involved with broadcasts I've been involved with, including last week,
- 18:27Speaker 1: which was Dodgers at Yankees. This week it's Dodgers at Metz.
- 18:32Speaker 1: The forecast looks good. It's supposedly going to be Yamamoto
- 18:35Speaker 1: versus McLain, a really good matchup. So, Britt, I'm just
- 18:39Speaker 1: looking forward to working. We didn't work last week. We
- 18:42Speaker 1: didn't work when the Yankees played the Red Sox here
- 18:45Speaker 1: in early June because it was rained out. We also
- 18:48Speaker 1: had a rainout in Cleveland in April, So I just
- 18:51Speaker 1: want to do the game.
- 18:54Speaker 2: Ken, what happens to all your prep work? Does it
- 18:56Speaker 2: go into a column?
- 18:57Speaker 3: Do you say?
- 18:58Speaker 1: Sometimes? But last week really didn't go anywhere. Often I
- 19:03Speaker 1: used the prep work for later things, stories and touch,
- 19:07Speaker 1: but last week it was just a nothing burger.
- 19:11Speaker 3: Ah. Well, good vibes.
- 19:12Speaker 2: The forecast looks good for you, Ken, and we'll be
- 19:15Speaker 2: on Fox streaming on Fox one. The Race October starts
- 19:19Speaker 2: now and we have your front row seat to the
- 19:20Speaker 2: wildest walk offs, lights out pitching and clutch plays all
- 19:24Speaker 2: season long. Follow every can't mismatchup as team's battle for
- 19:27Speaker 2: a spot in the postseason.
- 19:28Speaker 3: Then stream the twenty twenty six.
- 19:30Speaker 2: World Series live on Fox One at Homer on the Go,
- 19:33Speaker 2: live around demand, never miss a moment.
- 19:36Speaker 3: Stream Now. I'm the dude, so that's what you call me,
- 19:47Speaker 3: all right?
- 19:47Speaker 2: Welcome back to pair territory, Bridgerilli filling in here with
- 19:50Speaker 2: Ken Rosenthal, Dude and doyrk of the week.
- 19:53Speaker 3: Ken.
- 19:53Speaker 2: I'm going to let you go first. This is your show. Here,
- 19:56Speaker 2: the carpet is out. Who are we going with? We
- 19:58Speaker 2: always go with dude.
- 19:59Speaker 3: F We try to hit them with positives before the negatives.
- 20:03Speaker 3: All right, who is your dude? Who is your dude
- 20:05Speaker 3: of the week?
- 20:05Speaker 1: Ken, My dude of the week was going to be
- 20:08Speaker 1: the Red Sox just because of the way they've come back.
- 20:11Speaker 1: But last night Sal Perez tied George Brett for the
- 20:15Speaker 1: Royals franchise record in home runs and that is an
- 20:19Speaker 1: incredible accomplishment. Sal Perez, He's going to be a debatable
- 20:23Speaker 1: Hall of Fame candidate. I personally believe he is a
- 20:26Speaker 1: Hall of Famer and for him to tie Brett and
- 20:29Speaker 1: accomplish that in his career as a catcher, that's amazing.
- 20:33Speaker 1: And he's the dude of the week for that. For
- 20:35Speaker 1: tying a franchise record, a big one. Max Months he
- 20:38Speaker 1: also had a big accomplishment just passing Ron and Say
- 20:41Speaker 1: on the Los Angeles Dodgers All time list for second.
- 20:44Speaker 1: But I'm going to go with sal as my dear
- 20:46Speaker 1: to the week.
- 20:47Speaker 3: That's a good one, Ken.
- 20:48Speaker 2: I also give a little hat tip to the Red Sox,
- 20:50Speaker 2: but I'm going to go huston Astros.
- 20:53Speaker 3: Slugger your Don Alvarez.
- 20:54Speaker 2: I just think if this was Aaron Judge or show
- 20:57Speaker 2: he O Tani, you wouldn't be able to leave your
- 20:59Speaker 2: house without being boarded by articles about this guy.
- 21:01Speaker 3: He Homer's last night.
- 21:03Speaker 2: He is single handedly Ken in my opinion, and the
- 21:05Speaker 2: reason the Astros are even considering staying in this and
- 21:09Speaker 2: not just selling all these pieces off the season he
- 21:11Speaker 2: is having right now in line to be a triple crown.
- 21:15Speaker 2: That is an incredibly rare thing.
- 21:16Speaker 3: As well.
- 21:17Speaker 2: He is just such a fun player to watch. I
- 21:19Speaker 2: don't watch the Astros regularly, but if I'm flipping through
- 21:22Speaker 2: and he's at bat, I'm stopping. I'm watching. There's so
- 21:25Speaker 2: very few players like that. So I'm going to go
- 21:27Speaker 2: with him.
- 21:27Speaker 1: Great call, Britta, love it.
- 21:30Speaker 3: And now you're dork of the week.
- 21:32Speaker 1: Who do you got? All Right, I'm gonna go with
- 21:40Speaker 1: a guy that I never thought would win this award
- 21:43Speaker 1: because he's been kind of an outstanding player in the
- 21:46Speaker 1: game for a long time, a guy who is known
- 21:49Speaker 1: for his intellect on the field. It's JT. Realmuto. And
- 21:54Speaker 1: if you saw the end of the Phillies game last night,
- 21:56Speaker 1: the base running blunder that took place, it's shocking you
- 21:59Speaker 1: see there, what's happening. Contact play was on Justin Crawford
- 22:03Speaker 1: caught in a rundown between third and home. JT real
- 22:06Speaker 1: Mutto is on third, He's fine. What Crawford needs to
- 22:10Speaker 1: do there is getting to the rundown so Brandon Marsh
- 22:13Speaker 1: can get the second. But what happened. JT started running
- 22:18Speaker 1: back the second and they got him out too for
- 22:20Speaker 1: a game ending double play. It was a blunder. There's
- 22:23Speaker 1: no other way to put it, and JT took ownership
- 22:26Speaker 1: over of it. After the game, Don Manneley said, I
- 22:29Speaker 1: don't know what JT was thinking there. I will say this,
- 22:32Speaker 1: as I often say on this show. We all make
- 22:35Speaker 1: mistakes in our jobs, even me, even Britgieroli, everybody who
- 22:40Speaker 1: was watching and listening. Everybody makes mistakes in their jobs.
- 22:45Speaker 1: Unfortunately for JT, this was kind of a bad one.
- 22:49Speaker 3: Yes, I agree.
- 22:50Speaker 2: Speaking of mistakes, Ken my dork of the week made
- 22:53Speaker 2: a big one, probably the biggest one if you are
- 22:56Speaker 2: a pro scout.
- 22:58Speaker 3: It is Justin Boomer Prince.
- 23:00Speaker 2: I wrote a story titled The Baseball Spy earlier this
- 23:03Speaker 2: week with our colleague at the Athletic Sam Blum.
- 23:06Speaker 3: Basically, for those who didn't.
- 23:08Speaker 2: Read it, Princetein was hired in the winter this December
- 23:11Speaker 2: by the Angels. Basically, they created a spot for him,
- 23:14Speaker 2: a little bit of an unusual hire. Well, he got
- 23:17Speaker 2: caught filming the Colorado Rockies coaches while in the scout
- 23:21Speaker 2: section working a game in advance of the Angels Rockies series.
- 23:25Speaker 2: The Rockies complained to Major League Baseball. Major League Baseball
- 23:28Speaker 2: contacted the Angels. They promptly dismissed Princetein. But the whole
- 23:31Speaker 2: incident ken is made even more unbelievable by the fact
- 23:36Speaker 2: that Princetein has a Twitter account in which he calls
- 23:38Speaker 2: himself the Baseball Spy.
- 23:40Speaker 3: He had a podcast.
- 23:41Speaker 2: By the same name that had two episodes, one of
- 23:44Speaker 2: those episodes talking about your big story in twenty nineteen
- 23:47Speaker 2: the Houston Astros cheating scandal, in which Prince tein makes
- 23:51Speaker 2: it clear you can legally scout and legally try to
- 23:54Speaker 2: get signs with your eyes, but illegal methods such as
- 23:58Speaker 2: cell phones are not allowed. Of course, our colleague Dennis
- 24:01Speaker 2: Lynn later reported that Prince Deein was also approached during
- 24:04Speaker 2: a Padres game for the same violation. Look, I'm sure
- 24:08Speaker 2: he's a nice guy. Nothing against him personally. This is
- 24:11Speaker 2: something you cannot do. I heard from so many scouts
- 24:14Speaker 2: that were like, this stuff makes everyone look bad. It
- 24:18Speaker 2: makes us look stupid, it makes us look silly, and therefore, princetein,
- 24:22Speaker 2: I hope you have a nice life, but this is
- 24:24Speaker 2: just not going to be the career path for you. You
- 24:26Speaker 2: are my dork of the week.
- 24:28Speaker 1: That's a great call, and it was a great story
- 24:30Speaker 1: and the graphic that went with the story was pretty
- 24:32Speaker 1: great too, So I don't know that I can add
- 24:36Speaker 1: much more. You and Sam did a tremendous job just
- 24:38Speaker 1: reporting this out and bringing it to light, and it's crazy.
- 24:43Speaker 1: In all professions, I guess you have people who kind
- 24:45Speaker 1: of go off the rails and do things that are
- 24:48Speaker 1: shockingly wrong, and this is one case of that. So again,
- 24:54Speaker 1: great story and a worthy dork of the week for sure.
- 24:57Speaker 3: Well thank you.
- 24:58Speaker 2: And do the Angels do anything right? I don't know,
- 25:00Speaker 2: but there is a little hope there, I think more
- 25:02Speaker 2: than before. Molly Jolly in charge. Obviously a new front
- 25:05Speaker 2: office in place. It's gonna be we didn't talk about them,
- 25:08Speaker 2: but it's gonna be an interesting trade deadline to see
- 25:10Speaker 2: what they do as well and how they approach things.
- 25:13Speaker 2: Definitely in the sellers, of course. What makes this even
- 25:15Speaker 2: funnier The Rockies are the worst team in the National League.
- 25:18Speaker 2: The worst team in the American League are the Angels.
- 25:20Speaker 2: That's it for US. Foul Territory is coming up next,
- 25:23Speaker 2: hosted by Aj Brazinski and Trevor May. Guests Jonathan Papplebond
- 25:27Speaker 2: The Athletics, Patrick Mooney, and Lance Brasadowski.
- 25:31Speaker 3: Kennis back Monday Bye.
- 25:34Speaker 5: Looking to take your MLB action to the next level
- 25:36Speaker 5: this season, Boosted Odds are here to crank up every pitch.

- 25:45Speaker 5: Odds Boost token to get things started all season long.

- 25:52Speaker 5: your Odds Boost token, and lock it in. If your
- 25:55Speaker 5: bet hits, you're catching out with an even bigger payout
