Transcript
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Hey, this is Kent, and I wanted to take a minute to give you an update on a couple things.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: I'm taking a super quick break from the podcast this week, and the reason is that I'm announcing today that at the end of this semester I'll be transitioning away from my teaching role at St.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: Louis Christian College, where I've been teaching since 2004.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: And I'm making this change in order to focus full-time on my ghostwriting business, as well as serving writers through the Daily Writer, which of course includes this podcast as well as the Daily Writer community, live events, books, resources, and a lot more cool stuff coming up here in the next couple of years.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: So this week I'm focusing on catching up on some client work as well as handling some things related to my transition.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: I'm also hiring my first assistant this week.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: So we're taking some time for training and orientation and so forth.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: She's going to be helping with the Daily Writer, and I got to tell you, I could not be more excited about the direction we're going with all this.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: I'll have a lot more to say about this transition over the next few weeks because I want to walk you through how I made this decision, the factors that went into it, and so forth.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: But the main thing that I want to say right now is that this in no way reflects negatively on my college.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: I love St.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: Louis Christian College.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: I really do.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: I love the staff and students, and the school has been a massive blessing to my life and my family's life in so many ways over the last 17 years.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: And my heart is full of gratitude for everything that I've learned there and how the school has allowed me to focus on teaching courses related to communication, writing, storytelling, and media over the last few years.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: So I gotta tell you, I am honestly, truly, truly grateful to have been able to serve there.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: So this was very much a situation where I just didn't have time to adequately work two jobs.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: So actually three jobs.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: So I've got the Daily Writer, which is the podcast, the community, and so forth.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: Then I've got my client work, which is ghostwriting, and then I've got my day job at St.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: Louis Christian College.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: So honestly, over the past year, I've been really doing three jobs.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: So I'm kind of at the point where I had to eliminate one of these jobs, and I chose to transition away from the college teaching job to really focus more fully on training writers and serving my clients as well.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: And honestly, I just felt like it wasn't right for me to be only halfway there in my day job.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: I have too much respect for the college and I have too much respect for my students just to give them a halfway effort.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: And to be honest with you, I haven't been really engaged as much there the last year or two because I've been so busy with other things like the Daily Writer, my podcast, my client work, and so forth.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: So this is not necessarily a thing where I'm like, oh, I've got to get away from the school.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: In fact, it was the exact opposite.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: Um, I love the school, and this was a difficult decision in many ways because I love my classes and I love the school, and uh I've had a blast teaching there over the years.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: And honestly, this really goes back to something I feel very strongly about when it comes to changing jobs.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: I think that all things being equal, the ideal situation is one where you're not necessarily leaving something, rather, you're moving towards something new and more challenging.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: And that's again exactly the case here.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: I've had a blast teaching and I love St.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: Louis Christian College, and I'm leaving on excellent terms with the school.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: In fact, I still have two more classes to finish out this semester, as well as an independent study that I'm teaching this summer.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: And I may be an adjunct for future classes there as well.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: However, as far as my full-time work, it's really time for me to take on a bigger challenge and to focus exclusively on writing, which I feel very much called to do.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: So, my friends, that is the scoop, and you heard it here first.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: I will be back on Monday, May the 3rd with new episodes.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: In the meantime, I encourage you to check out some of the past episodes you may have missed over the last few months.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much, and I will see you back here on Monday, May the 3rd.
