Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: This is Kiss Breakfast.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Nat's got some celeb news. What's going on?
- 0:05Speaker 3: So Olivia Deen, she's in Australia at the moment. She
- 0:08Speaker 3: played in Melbourne last night. In fact, we all love her.
- 0:10Speaker 3: I'm obsessed with Olivia Deen. I think she's great.
- 0:12Speaker 4: She's beautiful. And yeah, she's a great artist.
- 0:16Speaker 3: But she has just had a copyright infringement lawsuit filed
- 0:19Speaker 3: against her from, remember Bill Withers?
- 0:23Speaker 4: An old singer.
- 0:24Speaker 3: Okay, you'll know the song when I play it for you,
- 0:25Speaker 3: but first I want to play the.
- 0:27Speaker 4: Olivia Dean song.
- 0:28Speaker 3: So she released a song last year called I've Seen It,
- 0:31Speaker 3: and this is the song in question.
- 0:33Speaker 4: Let's take a listen to her song.
- 0:34Speaker 1: I've heard it laced in every song. Still the words
- 0:38Speaker 1: all come out wrong. It doesn't always answer when you call.
- 0:45Speaker 4: Does it sound familiar?
- 0:46Speaker 3: Okay, well, let's hear 1980 Bill Withers, Just The Two
- 0:50Speaker 3: Of Us.
- 0:51Speaker 2: I see the crystal raindrops fall.
- 0:54Speaker 4: It's the same song.
- 0:54Speaker 2: And the beauty of it all. Are the lyrics the same?
- 0:57Speaker 4: No, but the melody.
- 0:59Speaker 3: And this is where you can get into that territory
- 1:01Speaker 3: where it's like, you know, Ed Sheeran had a number
- 1:04Speaker 3: of lawsuits filed against him where his music was claimed
- 1:07Speaker 3: to be copyrighted and whatever.
- 1:09Speaker 4: But it's like there's chord progressions.
- 1:12Speaker 3: And a lot of the time pop music uses the
- 1:14Speaker 3: same chord progression in every pop song. But this to
- 1:17Speaker 3: me is undeniably the same, even the inflections in the
- 1:21Speaker 3: way she's singing.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Let's have another listen.
- 1:23Speaker 4: Yeah, another listen now.
- 1:25Speaker 1: I've heard it laced in every song. Still the words
- 1:29Speaker 1: all come out wrong. Doesn't always answer when you call.
- 1:34Speaker 3: She goes down at the end there when he goes up,
- 1:37Speaker 3: but it's very, I can see why the Bill Withers
- 1:40Speaker 3: team has thought, hmm, we're going to give this a crack.
- 1:44Speaker 5: Do you think what happens is you just grow up
- 1:46Speaker 5: listening to a lot of different artists and songs and
- 1:48Speaker 5: they're stuck in your head?
- 1:49Speaker 4: Totally.
- 1:50Speaker 2: And you write something and it might sound similar.
- 1:52Speaker 4: Think about how many songs exist in the world.
- 1:55Speaker 3: But this is so similar that online a lot of
- 1:57Speaker 3: people are like, oh, I thought she.
- 1:59Speaker 4: Did sample it. They were like, oh, I didn't realise
- 2:02Speaker 4: she didn't.
- 2:03Speaker 2: Yes.
- 2:03Speaker 4: Because it sounds so strikingly similar.
- 2:06Speaker 2: She's claiming original.
- 2:07Speaker 4: Oh, is she claiming that it's her original song? Yeah,
- 2:10Speaker 4: she hasn't credited him at all. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So
- 2:12Speaker 4: that is why his team are like, okay, at least
- 2:14Speaker 4: give us a nod here.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely.
- 2:16Speaker 4: So we'll keep you updated once it settles.
- 2:18Speaker 3: But yeah, I think that is the select part of
- 2:21Speaker 3: the song and then the rest sounds different. So I
- 2:23Speaker 3: don't know how much of a song. you have to
- 2:25Speaker 3: sound similar for them to then be able to win
- 2:28Speaker 3: that lawsuit.
- 2:28Speaker 2: You know what I mean? Well, they'll fight that out
- 2:29Speaker 2: in court.
- 2:30Speaker 4: They certainly will.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Now, Pete Davidson is going viral right now and all
- 2:34Speaker 3: influencers are coming for him.
- 2:36Speaker 4: They're coming for him with torches.
- 2:38Speaker 3: So he did this interview recently with Variety and something
- 2:41Speaker 3: he said in that interview has completely pissed every influencer off.
- 2:45Speaker 4: So let's take a listen to what he thinks.
- 2:47Speaker 2: It's bad and it makes me sad, you know, and
- 2:51Speaker 2: girls are just talking to themselves on there and they're like, Okay,
- 2:55Speaker 2: come get ready with me.
- 2:56Speaker 1: And I'm like, who the fuck are you?
- 2:58Speaker 6: What do you do?
- 2:59Speaker 2: Nothing.
- 3:00Speaker 5: What the fuck is this?
- 3:01Speaker 6: They make 40 million a year?
- 3:03Speaker 1: What?
- 3:03Speaker 2: And then I'm like, the world's broken. There's girls my
- 3:06Speaker 2: age that go on TikTok and they'll like mutter like
- 3:10Speaker 2: a thing and then do this like dance.
- 3:12Speaker 6: And I'm like, what the fuck are you doing?
- 3:15Speaker 2: This is insane.
- 3:15Speaker 6: Does no one else see how fucking insane and lame
- 3:18Speaker 6: this is? I mean, that's what social media is. It's
- 3:22Speaker 6: all about creating content. And then you as a person,
- 3:25Speaker 6: you have a choice whether or not you want to
- 3:27Speaker 6: engage with it or not. So, like, he doesn't have
- 3:30Speaker 6: to watch it. If he's not interested, don't watch it.
- 3:32Speaker 3: A lot of people are reminding him online that he
- 3:34Speaker 3: dated Kim Kardashian as well. And someone even said he
- 3:38Speaker 3: literally does nothing and also makes $ 40 million each year.
- 3:40Speaker 3: But I want to know, as an influencer, Amy, do
- 3:42Speaker 3: you take particular offence to what he's saying?
- 3:44Speaker 6: I want to know which influencers are making $ 40.
- 3:46Speaker 4: Million because I'll quit.
- 3:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:49Speaker 4: That new job you got?
- 3:50Speaker 2: See ya.
- 3:51Speaker 4: Wow, they're doing well.
- 3:54Speaker 6: Listen, I mean, influencers, even the term influencers, there's a
- 3:58Speaker 6: stigma attached to it.
- 3:59Speaker 2: Yeah, do you say content creator?
- 4:01Speaker 6: Absolutely I do because we are. We're essentially creating content, right? Influencing,
- 4:10Speaker 6: I don't think that's– I mean, I don't use that
- 4:13Speaker 6: word ever.
- 4:15Speaker 2: People use it about you though, don't they?
- 4:16Speaker 4: Yeah, they do. And I don't like it. I just
- 4:19Speaker 4: show up there.
- 4:19Speaker 6: I put whatever content I want out.
- 4:21Speaker 4: I share things.
- 4:22Speaker 6: People want to know like what you're wearing, what makeup.
- 4:24Speaker 4: You use, how do you curl your hair. So I
- 4:26Speaker 4: share that stuff. If you're interested in it, you can
- 4:30Speaker 4: engage in my content. If not, don't worry about it.
- 4:32Speaker 5: And the way the algorithm works anyway is it's not
- 4:34Speaker 5: going to feed up. Like there's not blokes that are
- 4:36Speaker 5: sitting there watching you curl your hair.
- 4:38Speaker 2: No, no. Into that.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:40Speaker 4: Right?
- 4:41Speaker 2: So you just fed what you want to see anyway.
- 4:43Speaker 4: That's exactly right.
- 4:44Speaker 3: Well, he started this whole trend online where influencers, you
- 4:46Speaker 3: might say, are going, seeing as Pete Davidson asked who
- 4:49Speaker 3: the F I am, he said facts about me.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Oh, right.
- 4:51Speaker 2: They're offended.
- 4:52Speaker 4: But that's the thing. If you're offended, isn't it kind
- 4:54Speaker 4: of true?
- 4:55Speaker 2: Yeah, it is.
- 4:56Speaker 4: You wouldn't care if it wasn't true, right? Well, and also.
- 5:00Speaker 6: Like, it doesn't offend me at all. People have always given, like,
- 5:04Speaker 6: influencers shit and stuff like that.
- 5:06Speaker 5: Oh, absolutely.
- 5:06Speaker 4: That's because there's more to you, Amy, than just being
- 5:08Speaker 4: an influencer.
- 5:09Speaker 3: Some of these influencers wake up, set their phone up
- 5:12Speaker 3: on a tripod, and then get back in bed and
- 5:14Speaker 3: pretend they're waking up.
- 5:15Speaker 4: Like, that's crazy to me.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Yeah, but you know what? Isn't it just a lot
- 5:18Speaker 2: of a jealousy?
- 5:19Speaker 3: Totally.
- 5:19Speaker 5: People are like, I've got to go and work and
- 5:21Speaker 5: do a proper job. You get to wake up and
- 5:24Speaker 5: put a bloody phone in front of your bed.
- 5:26Speaker 3: If someone said his $ 40 million would do it, oh, absolutely.
- 5:30Speaker 4: It is jealousy.
