- 1:12Speaker 1: thing since the Joe Burrow Foundation Golf outing Last week
- 1:17Speaker 1: the Bengals quarterback held his second annual golf event and
- 1:20Speaker 1: it reportedly raised more than a million dollars. The proceeds
- 1:25Speaker 1: go toward feeding families in need and helping children deal
- 1:29Speaker 1: with mental health challenges. The golf club at Stonewack Hills
- 1:33Speaker 1: was a great setting and the after party, catered by
- 1:36Speaker 1: Jeff Ruby's team was epic. The slogan of the Borough
- 1:40Speaker 1: Foundation is everybody has a responsibility to do good. Joe's
- 1:46Speaker 1: backing those words up with action and we can too.
- 1:50Speaker 1: For more information, go to Joeburrow dot org. Now let's
- 1:56Speaker 1: get to my first guest. As you probably know, the
- 1:58Speaker 1: NFL has changed its kickoff rules this year with the
- 2:01Speaker 1: goal of cutting down on touchbacks and bringing the excitement
- 2:04Speaker 1: of the kick return back into the game. Last year,
- 2:08Speaker 1: nearly eighty percent of NFL kickoffs were touchbacks, but now
- 2:14Speaker 1: the expectation is that most kicks will be returned. So
- 2:19Speaker 1: what's that mean for Evan McPherson. I talked to him
- 2:22Speaker 1: about it this week. Having a good kickoff in the
- 2:27Speaker 1: past had great hang time and carried into or beyond
- 2:31Speaker 1: the end zone. What is a good kickoff now?
- 2:35Speaker 2: Let's say a good kickoff now is you put it
- 2:37Speaker 2: on the one yard line outside the numbers.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Is that what Darren primarily has you working on.
- 2:43Speaker 2: So it's gonna be a lot of placement ball, I
- 2:45Speaker 2: think throughout the league. But I think we're kind of
- 2:49Speaker 2: airing on the side of being too far rather than
- 2:51Speaker 2: being too short, because if the return team catches it
- 2:55Speaker 2: around like the fifteen or so, I mean, they're on
- 2:56Speaker 2: top of the coverage team real fast. So we're flirting.
- 3:01Speaker 3: With the goal line, that's for sure.
- 3:02Speaker 2: But I think placement's just going to be a key priority.
- 3:07Speaker 1: I saw your practice last week working on kickoffs, and
- 3:10Speaker 1: some you just what you describe You kind of floated
- 3:13Speaker 1: down inside the five, kind of between the numbers and
- 3:16Speaker 1: the sideline, but then there was like a screening line drive.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Then there was kind of a bouncing squib type kick.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Are you going to have to have a wider repertoire
- 3:26Speaker 1: of kickoffs?
- 3:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean you never know. You're always looking to
- 3:29Speaker 2: find some way to kind of test the system and
- 3:36Speaker 2: different kicks to kind of play with.
- 3:39Speaker 3: So we'll see.
- 3:40Speaker 2: I mean, you never know what everybody else is gonna do,
- 3:43Speaker 2: so I'm sure we'll pick up some stuff from other teams,
- 3:45Speaker 2: But I mean, there's a couple of things that we do.
- 3:50Speaker 3: They're on the docket.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Punters try to have certain punts that are hard to catch.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Can you do that kicking off a team?
- 3:58Speaker 2: I think you can manipulate the ball a little bit,
- 4:01Speaker 2: but I feel like it's harder to control. So I
- 4:04Speaker 2: don't know if you're really going to see it that
- 4:05Speaker 2: often Guys trying to hit like knuckleballs that land past
- 4:08Speaker 2: the twenty because you'd rather, like I said, you'd rather
- 4:11Speaker 2: honestly hit a touchback than be short of the twenty
- 4:13Speaker 2: yard line and give the ball. Give them the ball
- 4:15Speaker 2: at the forty. So we'll see. I think people are
- 4:17Speaker 2: gonna err on the side of touchback rather than mishitting
- 4:21Speaker 2: and being.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Short like the role or dislike the role.
- 4:26Speaker 2: It's interesting I think right now. I mean, just going
- 4:30Speaker 2: through like all of high school football, college football, and
- 4:33Speaker 2: in my first three years with the like normal kickoff
- 4:38Speaker 2: rule and going to this, it definitely feels strange, just
- 4:41Speaker 2: because I've been doing the other one my whole life,
- 4:43Speaker 2: and I just got so used to it. I enjoy
- 4:47Speaker 2: kick I enjoyed kickoff because like in high school, I
- 4:50Speaker 2: feel like that's how you really compare yourself to other kids.
- 4:53Speaker 2: It was with kickoff, and I just hope it doesn't
- 4:55Speaker 2: really work its way down to high school.
- 4:56Speaker 3: Because I feel like.
- 4:59Speaker 2: I don't as a young kicker, like kickoff was always
- 5:03Speaker 2: that fun one to try to test.
- 5:04Speaker 3: Yourself and see how high and far you can kick
- 5:06Speaker 3: the ball.
- 5:06Speaker 2: So not gonna say I dislike it, it's just different
- 5:12Speaker 2: and learning how to have fun with it.
- 5:14Speaker 1: So I saw one expert, I don't know exactly what
- 5:17Speaker 1: his level of expertise is, but he estimated the kickers
- 5:20Speaker 1: are going to be involved in tackles upwards of twenty
- 5:23Speaker 1: percent of the time. How do you feel about that?
- 5:28Speaker 3: We'll see.
- 5:31Speaker 2: I mean, you probably know I'm not the biggest tackler.
- 5:33Speaker 2: I'm not the biggest guy, but whenever I have to,
- 5:36Speaker 2: I will. But now that that percentage is higher, you know,
- 5:39Speaker 2: I'm curious to see how many teams do go to
- 5:42Speaker 2: like with the chiefs.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Like a Justin read.
- 5:46Speaker 2: And instead of Harrison and have those extra cover guys
- 5:50Speaker 2: kind of down the field. I mean, we'll see. I
- 5:53Speaker 2: think a lot of guys are going to try to
- 5:54Speaker 2: protect their kickers too. And you could say, like this
- 5:58Speaker 2: rule could help prolong careers because kickoff was pretty aggressive.
- 6:01Speaker 3: On the body. And I mean, you have a guys.
- 6:05Speaker 2: That are like thirteen fourteen years in the league that
- 6:08Speaker 2: are having a tough time kicking off but are still
- 6:11Speaker 2: good field goal kickers. And now they just got to
- 6:13Speaker 2: pooch like a six yard ball down the field and
- 6:16Speaker 2: so it doesn't put too much stress on the body.
- 6:18Speaker 1: You say that like it's really easy pooch at sixty
- 6:20Speaker 1: yards down the field.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a lot easier than the old kickoff rule,
- 6:25Speaker 2: that's for sure.
- 6:26Speaker 3: But I mean, I'm gonna take it for what it's worth.
- 6:30Speaker 2: I'm gonna I'm gonna really try and enjoy this new
- 6:33Speaker 2: kickoff rule. And I know, I think what the league
- 6:36Speaker 2: wanted was more returns, not and just not to completely
- 6:40Speaker 2: remove the kickoff rules so or the kickoff itself. But
- 6:44Speaker 2: I mean, we'll see how it works and how people
- 6:47Speaker 2: like it and where it goes.
- 6:50Speaker 1: Is Logan Wilson the logical alternate kickoff guy.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Yeah, Logan's actually a pretty good ball kicker and he
- 6:57Speaker 2: can kick kilgos pretty solid and I feel as long
- 7:00Speaker 2: as you can hit it like forty five yards, he
- 7:02Speaker 2: should be good to go.
- 7:04Speaker 3: But I'll be really interesting.
- 7:05Speaker 2: We haven't practiced it yet, but I'll be interesting to
- 7:07Speaker 2: see if it's something that we kind of try out.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Change up subject. You're about three months into fatherhood. How
- 7:14Speaker 1: you liking it? Oh?
- 7:15Speaker 3: I love it.
- 7:16Speaker 2: This last month has been great. The first month was
- 7:20Speaker 2: pretty i'd say fun, but miserable at the same time,
- 7:24Speaker 2: not much sleep.
- 7:27Speaker 3: But the last month, I mean, it's been so much fun.
- 7:29Speaker 3: Like I said, she slept.
- 7:31Speaker 2: Through the night a couple of times, so that's a blessing,
- 7:33Speaker 2: and started smiling whenever you kind of step into the room.
- 7:36Speaker 2: So just seeing the smile on her face and she
- 7:41Speaker 2: actually plays around and just has fun.
- 7:43Speaker 3: Now, it's been a lot of fun.
- 7:45Speaker 1: How incredible is it that you and Logan became dads
- 7:47Speaker 1: on the same day.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Yeah, we kind of I mean, yeah, that idea, right, dude.
- 7:52Speaker 2: It was the exact same so we had an idea
- 7:54Speaker 2: that they would be born around the same time, but
- 7:56Speaker 2: the same day. That's pretty crazy because Gracian and Morgan,
- 8:00Speaker 2: his wife, they were going on walks every single day
- 8:02Speaker 2: trying to pop the babies out. Somehow they did at
- 8:06Speaker 2: the same time, so it was pretty wild. But it's
- 8:09Speaker 2: fun to see his daughter grow and my daughter grow together.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Let me state for the record, I hope you do
- 8:15Speaker 1: not make a single tackle this year.
- 8:17Speaker 3: I appreciate that me either.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Evan has made one tackle so far in his NFL career,
- 8:23Speaker 1: and it might have saved a touchdown as he knocked
- 8:25Speaker 1: Isaiah Pacheco out of bounds near the fifty in a
- 8:29Speaker 1: three point win over the Chiefs in twenty twenty two.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Now time for my latest round of five questions with
- 8:36Speaker 1: a member of this year's draft class. This week, it's
- 8:40Speaker 1: this year's fourth round selection. Time for five questions with
- 8:45Speaker 1: fourth round draft pick Eric All, a local kid. You're
- 8:49Speaker 1: from the Cincinnati area. You went to Fairfield High School.
- 8:52Speaker 1: Your high school coach, Jason Krause said the following, you
- 8:56Speaker 1: are the hardest working kid he's had in twenty eight
- 8:59Speaker 1: years of coach. Here's my question. Is that justin sports
- 9:03Speaker 1: or do you have that kind of work ethic in
- 9:05Speaker 1: everything you do? Oh man, that might be.
- 9:10Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 9:10Speaker 5: Coach Crowds pushed me, so it was like he like
- 9:14Speaker 5: kind of like built like this thing in me that
- 9:17Speaker 5: like that made me just just go crazy at like
- 9:20Speaker 5: practice and like pretty much with everything I had to
- 9:22Speaker 5: do with anything. And then once I got to Well,
- 9:26Speaker 5: that was when I was in high school, and that
- 9:29Speaker 5: was like with all sports and really like with schoolwork,
- 9:32Speaker 5: I was cool. I just did it was just I
- 9:34Speaker 5: just did my homework and pass every test with like
- 9:36Speaker 5: a C or a B or something. I never really
- 9:38Speaker 5: was a student, but pretty much with just sports in
- 9:41Speaker 5: high school. But then when I got to Michigan, Coach
- 9:44Speaker 5: Herb and Coach Harball and you know, coach More all
- 9:47Speaker 5: my coaches and at Michigan kind of like helped me
- 9:51Speaker 5: out a lot with like keeping that same work work
- 9:53Speaker 5: ethic and stuff off the field, like whether it was
- 9:57Speaker 5: had to do with like cleaning your locker clocker or
- 10:00Speaker 5: you know, putting your shoes down the right way, folding clothes,
- 10:02Speaker 5: making your bed, stuff like that. It was just you
- 10:05Speaker 5: know ridiculous. And with school work as well, like they
- 10:08Speaker 5: were just so it kind of was a mixture between
- 10:10Speaker 5: coach Coach Kraus with sports, and then when I got
- 10:12Speaker 5: to Michigan, it was like with everything they kind of
- 10:14Speaker 5: like put that cherry on top.
- 10:16Speaker 1: I I asked the question, that's a great answer, right,
- 10:18Speaker 1: question number two. I read during COVID that you lived
- 10:21Speaker 1: with another family in order to be able to properly train.
- 10:25Speaker 1: What was the backstory of that.
- 10:27Speaker 5: Well, so, my Joey Velasquez at the time, we you know,
- 10:30Speaker 5: we came in together. We were in the same class,
- 10:34Speaker 5: and you know he was just a kid who always
- 10:37Speaker 5: just worked hard, like at everything, and you know, he
- 10:41Speaker 5: was always in the gym always, you know, eating the
- 10:43Speaker 5: right things always, you know, had his routine and you
- 10:46Speaker 5: know he was and he stuck to it and had
- 10:48Speaker 5: a great outstanding and work ethic. And not only that,
- 10:50Speaker 5: he was from Ohio Columbus. So when you know, we
- 10:55Speaker 5: got to the team and we were working out and
- 10:57Speaker 5: stuff together at the at the you know, on campus,
- 11:02Speaker 5: and then when we had to you know, we had
- 11:04Speaker 5: to leave campus for because of COVID and everything, he
- 11:07Speaker 5: asked me if I wanted to come to his house.
- 11:09Speaker 3: And you know.
- 11:09Speaker 5: We had this crazy trainer, they call him Captain Davies,
- 11:12Speaker 5: Coach Davies, and and he's just like this crazy coach
- 11:17Speaker 5: who's just you know, he's legit. You know, he gets
- 11:21Speaker 5: you right, and you know, no Bs is always you know,
- 11:25Speaker 5: a tough workout every single day. And at the time
- 11:29Speaker 5: I was stuck home and I just had like a
- 11:32Speaker 5: little bench, like a little weight set in the backyard,
- 11:34Speaker 5: all rested up, and it was in my backyard and
- 11:37Speaker 5: it was just tough to like work out. So I
- 11:39Speaker 5: told told my dad and I was like, hey, dad,
- 11:42Speaker 5: kill on my team. Joey Velasquez. He said, I can
- 11:44Speaker 5: come work out with him, and you know, he's he's
- 11:46Speaker 5: working with this crazy trainer who's just a BS. He
- 11:50Speaker 5: trained Arnold Schwarzenegger and yeah he's like legit and and
- 11:55Speaker 5: yeah he's like he runs the Arnold Classic out there,
- 11:58Speaker 5: so like he's like legit. But that was like no,
- 12:02Speaker 5: And I told Joey.
- 12:03Speaker 3: I was like, yes, I'm coming.
- 12:04Speaker 5: It was like two much of it, and I had
- 12:06Speaker 5: just turned like eighteen nineteen, so I was like, man,
- 12:10Speaker 5: I'm gonna have to I was like, just come, and
- 12:12Speaker 5: he came. I was I was hoping I was going
- 12:14Speaker 5: to be able to, you know, convince my dad to
- 12:17Speaker 5: let me go by the time he got there, but
- 12:19Speaker 5: I couldn't.
- 12:20Speaker 4: And he got there.
- 12:21Speaker 5: I told my dad, Hey, Dad, Joey's here. He's like,
- 12:24Speaker 5: Joey who I was like Withlaska's I'm going to train
- 12:26Speaker 5: in Columbus.
- 12:27Speaker 3: He's like, no, what do you mean.
- 12:29Speaker 5: It's like I told you no, I was like, man,
- 12:31Speaker 5: I can't this is the opportunity I can't pass up.
- 12:34Speaker 3: I gotta go.
- 12:34Speaker 5: And then you know, I went, and he was mad
- 12:37Speaker 5: at me, and you know, eventually he got over and
- 12:41Speaker 5: was cool with it. And it worked out tremendously because
- 12:44Speaker 5: I came back bigger, stronger, and faster than I've ever been.
- 12:47Speaker 5: So he was like, man, Son, you made a good decision,
- 12:51Speaker 5: you know. So that was the story behind us.
- 12:53Speaker 1: Just speak of your dad to admit that you know
- 12:54Speaker 1: what you did the right thing, all right? Question number
- 12:57Speaker 1: three for Eric all, you spent most of your college
- 12:59Speaker 1: care with Michigan, you finished last year with Iowa. His
- 13:03Speaker 1: fate would have at the Wolverines won the national championship?
- 13:07Speaker 1: Was that bitter sweet for you?
- 13:10Speaker 5: No, it was more like a It was like for me,
- 13:14Speaker 5: like I didn't even really think about that, And I
- 13:15Speaker 5: know it sounds like like I could be lying, but
- 13:18Speaker 5: I'm so serious, Like I was so more like happy
- 13:22Speaker 5: for those guys and and you know, I wish I was,
- 13:26Speaker 5: you know, there to celebrate with them and everything, but
- 13:28Speaker 5: like at the same time, like I went to Iowa
- 13:30Speaker 5: and you know, it was a part of a great,
- 13:32Speaker 5: fantastic team and and you know, I don't regret it
- 13:35Speaker 5: at all. So like I was, I was in the
- 13:38Speaker 5: best situation for me, and you know, they went off
- 13:40Speaker 5: and won, and I was I was just extremely happy
- 13:42Speaker 5: for him calling them up, you know, as if I
- 13:45Speaker 5: was still you know, on the team, and you know,
- 13:46Speaker 5: they they treated me like I was still on the team,
- 13:49Speaker 5: and you know, it was great. Nothing was really like
- 13:52Speaker 5: bitter about it at all.
- 13:53Speaker 1: So just sweet, not better. Yeah, all right, Question number four,
- 13:57Speaker 1: You're lucky to be here, And by that I don't
- 13:59Speaker 1: mean with the Bengals, your hometown team. I mean literally,
- 14:03Speaker 1: you were rescued from a burning building when you were
- 14:06Speaker 1: an infant. You eventually got to meet the firefighter who
- 14:09Speaker 1: pulled you out of the burning building. What was it
- 14:12Speaker 1: like to meet that man?
- 14:14Speaker 5: It was pretty At the time, it was like man
- 14:17Speaker 5: like I didn't really know how to process it, because
- 14:21Speaker 5: you like, you know, when anybody like saved your life
- 14:24Speaker 5: like that, Like like I literally like wouldn't be alive
- 14:27Speaker 5: if it weren't for him. I wouldn't be able to
- 14:29Speaker 5: you know, have friends, play the game that I love,
- 14:31Speaker 5: you know, spend time with my family, and be here.
- 14:34Speaker 4: Playing for my owntown team.
- 14:36Speaker 5: So if it wasn't for him, Like you know, I literally,
- 14:40Speaker 5: you know, wouldn't be here. So it's like it was
- 14:43Speaker 5: kind of hard to like, you know, give a reaction.
- 14:46Speaker 5: It was just like, man, like just thank you so much,
- 14:49Speaker 5: and you know, like thank God for you, you know,
- 14:53Speaker 5: because if he could have, if he would have froze
- 14:55Speaker 5: for a second, or or anybody or something would have
- 14:59Speaker 5: been off excited off, I.
- 15:00Speaker 1: Wan't be here.
- 15:01Speaker 5: So like I'm just you know, thankful for God and
- 15:04Speaker 5: thanks for him, and you know, and in his family
- 15:07Speaker 5: and in the whole you know, Indiana fire crew.
- 15:11Speaker 1: I know he's as thrilled as you are the things
- 15:14Speaker 1: turned out the way they did. Fifth and final question
- 15:16Speaker 1: for Eric, all share something about you that not that
- 15:20Speaker 1: many people know.
- 15:23Speaker 5: I love. I love playing golf, I love playing chess,
- 15:29Speaker 5: not that many people know. I'd say the chess thing,
- 15:32Speaker 5: for sure, because every time I like ask him if
- 15:35Speaker 5: they played chess, they're like, what, you played chess?
- 15:37Speaker 3: But I'd say that. And then the whole house fire thing.
- 15:40Speaker 5: Before like the story came out, nobody knew about it,
- 15:43Speaker 5: Like nobody like Tom Broyle, his wife Kelly Broyle, if
- 15:47Speaker 5: she never you know, came out and made a post
- 15:50Speaker 5: about it like the world wouldn't know.
- 15:52Speaker 3: So that's pretty cool.
- 15:53Speaker 5: So i'd say those three things.
- 15:56Speaker 1: So the Bengals locker room is being renovated right now.
- 15:58Speaker 1: You're in a little auxiliar locker room, so you may
- 16:01Speaker 1: not even know this. Joe Burrow keeps a chest set
- 16:05Speaker 1: in front of his locker.
- 16:06Speaker 4: Really, yes, we're glad to get it.
- 16:08Speaker 5: So I got my chest board at the at the
- 16:11Speaker 5: My parents has got it for me for Christmas, one
- 16:13Speaker 5: of those magnet sets. It's where like the pieces will
- 16:15Speaker 5: move around so you could just just play on the flylight.
- 16:19Speaker 5: So we're definitely gonna have to get it. And I'm
- 16:20Speaker 5: bringing mine in here too.
- 16:21Speaker 1: So all right, Joe, you've been warned. Eric All is
- 16:24Speaker 1: ready to go at it with you and chess. This
- 16:26Speaker 1: has been fun. It's great to have you in Cincinnati.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Best of luck going forward. Ye I'll follow up once
- 16:33Speaker 1: the season begins to see if a chess rivalry has started.
- 16:36Speaker 1: And by the way, if you haven't seen it already,
- 16:39Speaker 1: there's an amazing video on YouTube that tells the complete

- 17:13Speaker 1: provider of the Bengals. Next week, the Bengals offseason program
- 17:18Speaker 1: shifts from the voluntary phase to a three day mandatory camp.
- 17:23Speaker 1: It's the last time the team will get together before
- 17:25Speaker 1: training camp begins in late July. Jamar Chase has not
- 17:30Speaker 1: been at the voluntary practices so far, but he's expected
- 17:34Speaker 1: to be at camp next week. Chase talked to Bengals
- 17:37Speaker 1: dot Com editor Jeff Hobson and me at a youth
- 17:40Speaker 1: football camp last weekend.
- 17:43Speaker 4: What's it like You.
- 17:44Speaker 6: Show up here and it's like one hundred little kids
- 17:47Speaker 6: doing the gritty.
- 17:48Speaker 7: This is love, man. It's lots of love from Cincinnati,
- 17:51Speaker 7: you know, and they show it every time that we
- 17:52Speaker 7: have you a foundation or something supporting the city.
- 17:55Speaker 1: And you know, the kids love the gritty.
- 17:57Speaker 7: I think they don't know no other but the gritty.
- 18:00Speaker 7: And you know, the way we put it on the map.
- 18:02Speaker 7: Is just a fun dance to do.
- 18:03Speaker 1: Phone. What you've been up to in the off season
- 18:06Speaker 1: work wise?
- 18:07Speaker 7: Yeah, I've been working out in Miami, in Dallas, getting
- 18:11Speaker 7: on the field, staying and getting some atility, working, you
- 18:14Speaker 7: know what I'm saying, Throwing the usual.
- 18:16Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying.
- 18:17Speaker 7: Just keeping my head above water man and staying out
- 18:20Speaker 7: of trouble.
- 18:20Speaker 1: That's all I can do right now.
- 18:21Speaker 4: Have you changed anything with your regimen.
- 18:23Speaker 1: Like training wise? Yeah?
- 18:24Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, yeah, you know what I'm saying. It's
- 18:28Speaker 7: it's more catching footballs on my own right now. But
- 18:33Speaker 7: it's not really much that I'm changing. It's just me
- 18:35Speaker 7: doing more reps of it since I'm not with the
- 18:37Speaker 7: team right now and I'm by myself.
- 18:38Speaker 4: So that's all of this is more reps you mean
- 18:41Speaker 4: catching the ball?
- 18:42Speaker 7: Yeah, more catches, more releases, just working the stuff that
- 18:46Speaker 7: I want to work on and when I get back
- 18:48Speaker 7: so I can know what I want to do. You
- 18:50Speaker 7: use the drug use as a drug machine. I'm using
- 18:52Speaker 7: a quarterback right now. One of my friends is throwing
- 18:54Speaker 7: it to me.
- 18:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:56Speaker 4: How many balls is yet?
- 18:57Speaker 1: You catch it?
- 18:59Speaker 7: I can't really give you a still made a number
- 19:00Speaker 7: you know, I try to run as many routes. I
- 19:02Speaker 7: try to run at least five routes, and then you know,
- 19:04Speaker 7: try to do like basically like catch, just lay catch,
- 19:08Speaker 7: just get a feel for the ball, getting used to it,
- 19:10Speaker 7: having hitting in my hands, getting comfortable, And that's all
- 19:13Speaker 7: I could do.
- 19:14Speaker 1: I don't know if you've seen Joe throw in person.
- 19:16Speaker 1: I imagine you've seen video.
- 19:18Speaker 7: What's person. I threw with him in California one time,
- 19:22Speaker 7: right before we he came down here. Actually, so me
- 19:24Speaker 7: and him threw with each other already, so we had
- 19:26Speaker 7: good reps in We feel comfortable about it. You know,
- 19:29Speaker 7: it's just all on how we're gonna do that when
- 19:31Speaker 7: we get time and put the whole offense together.
- 19:33Speaker 1: Now, it's pretty encouraged by how he looks for his risk. Yeah,
- 19:36Speaker 1: he looks good man.
- 19:37Speaker 7: I already knew Joe. You know, he's a strong person,
- 19:39Speaker 7: strong hard working person at that and you know he's
- 19:42Speaker 7: gonna give us all what everything he does. And you know,
- 19:44Speaker 7: I don't think I'm gonna tell him, is you know
- 19:45Speaker 7: how to dial off? Like he told me.
- 19:48Speaker 1: Camp's following Terry at this point, I think it's mandatory.
- 19:51Speaker 1: The following week when are you likely to join the squad? Yeah,
- 19:54Speaker 1: I'll should be back by camp time. I'm sorry, the
- 19:58Speaker 1: mandatory camp, yeah, the mantory mini camp.
- 20:01Speaker 4: Yeah, we just should die with arts. Know when to
- 20:04Speaker 4: back it off when.
- 20:05Speaker 7: I mean, you're a pro now, you know what I'm saying,
- 20:07Speaker 7: Like if you fill in tweaks in your hand, it's
- 20:09Speaker 7: just you got to know how to relax yourself. Sometimes
- 20:11Speaker 7: I was like me with my hip.
- 20:14Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying.
- 20:14Speaker 7: Zach told me let him know when I'm feeling on
- 20:17Speaker 7: my hip, So you know what I'm saying. He let
- 20:19Speaker 7: me do what I had to do perform for the games.
- 20:21Speaker 4: How good do you feel going.
- 20:22Speaker 1: Into this season to compare to other seasons, Yeah, I
- 20:25Speaker 1: felt good. Man.
- 20:26Speaker 7: It's just all about my health right now. I'm making
- 20:28Speaker 7: sure I give my body back right now. Is the
- 20:29Speaker 7: biggest thing this off season. And you don't know, stand
- 20:32Speaker 7: in shape is also the biggest thing because I do
- 20:33Speaker 7: a lot of running. So those two things was the
- 20:35Speaker 7: biggest task I had this whole season.
- 20:37Speaker 1: The youth football camp where we caught up with Jamar
- 20:40Speaker 1: last weekend was actually Joe Mixon's two day event put
- 20:44Speaker 1: on by Pro Camps. The Cincinnati based organization that does
- 20:48Speaker 1: an incredible job of staging youth camps with professional athletes
- 20:52Speaker 1: all over the country. It was our first opportunity to
- 20:55Speaker 1: catch up with Joe since he was traded to Houston
- 20:58Speaker 1: in March. Joe, when you came out yesterday, he said,
- 21:03Speaker 1: it's all love. I'm excited to be back home. Can
- 21:05Speaker 1: you articulate your feelings about being back around these people.
- 21:09Speaker 8: Yeah, it's a hell of a feeling for me, especially
- 21:13Speaker 8: you know about the love part. You know, it could
- 21:16Speaker 8: have been easy for the parents to be like, you
- 21:18Speaker 8: know what, he's not on the team no more.
- 21:21Speaker 4: You know, let's not show up this year.
- 21:22Speaker 8: But I mean to have a better turnout than what
- 21:25Speaker 8: I did last year. And I thought last year was
- 21:28Speaker 8: a hell of a turnout. I mean it was over
- 21:30Speaker 8: five hundred kids. And to have more and especially a
- 21:34Speaker 8: lot more fans, you know, parents in the crowd or
- 21:37Speaker 8: parents in the stands and things like that.
- 21:39Speaker 4: I mean, that's that's everything for me.
- 21:41Speaker 1: Man.
- 21:41Speaker 4: Like I said, I have a lot of great.
- 21:45Speaker 8: Relationships here in Cincinnati that I will continue to have.
- 21:49Speaker 8: And you know, like I said, I'm just very fortunate
- 21:52Speaker 8: enough to be in this here position of where I
- 21:54Speaker 8: stand to be able to give back and this is
- 21:58Speaker 8: why I do this, and that's really giving me confirmation
- 22:01Speaker 8: on you know why I do it, and it's bigger
- 22:05Speaker 8: than me.
- 22:05Speaker 4: So I'm just definitely.
- 22:07Speaker 8: Blessed to be here for all the love and support
- 22:10Speaker 8: that the parents bring, and especially the kids. You know,
- 22:13Speaker 8: they they they would motivated me to get.
- 22:15Speaker 4: Up this morning, you know what I'm saying, and to
- 22:18Speaker 4: come out.
- 22:18Speaker 8: Here for round two and to have a great turnout
- 22:20Speaker 8: like this and the rain rain sleeder snow, I see.
- 22:25Speaker 4: I see all the kids is on go today. So
- 22:27Speaker 4: I love it.
- 22:28Speaker 1: I've been to a lot of these camps. You genuinely
- 22:31Speaker 1: seem to love the interaction with the kids.
- 22:34Speaker 8: Yeah, no doubt. You know, I grew up around a
- 22:37Speaker 8: lot of kids. My mom, she runs a daycare, and
- 22:41Speaker 8: there's just always been a natural thing.
- 22:43Speaker 4: You know.
- 22:43Speaker 8: I got a lot of nieces and nephews as well,
- 22:45Speaker 8: So I think it comes quite easy for a lot
- 22:48Speaker 8: of these themes like this, and uh, you know, just
- 22:51Speaker 8: to see the looks on these kids' faces when you
- 22:54Speaker 8: know you're shaking their hands, giving them hugs, picking them up,
- 22:57Speaker 8: tossing them around and turning telling them like you know,
- 23:00Speaker 8: how good they're doing today. I mean, it's a it's
- 23:02Speaker 8: a hell of a thing, man, And you know, words
- 23:05Speaker 8: could be very infectious and encouraging to these young kids.
- 23:08Speaker 8: And you know, I always once in that position before,
- 23:11Speaker 8: being that young.
- 23:11Speaker 4: Kid running around and I'm.
- 23:13Speaker 8: Glad I get to pay it forward today and hopefully,
- 23:16Speaker 8: you know, these kids take that and hopefully they straightened
- 23:19Speaker 8: to do the same thing.
- 23:21Speaker 6: These guys are obviously are Joe Mixing fans, and they're
- 23:24Speaker 6: gonna say twenty years from now, so yeah, Joe mix
- 23:28Speaker 6: is my favorite players, my favorite players. What will you
- 23:32Speaker 6: think about Cincinnati twenty years from now?
- 23:34Speaker 8: I mean, yeah, I think it's a hell of a place.
- 23:38Speaker 8: I truly feel like, you know, like I said, these
- 23:40Speaker 8: kids are there, there's gonna be somebody from this here
- 23:43Speaker 8: camp to be fortunate enough to you know, go to
- 23:46Speaker 8: the next level and then hopefully the level after that. Cincinnati,
- 23:50Speaker 8: they have a lot of products, you know, especially from
- 23:52Speaker 8: football that comes out and go to the league and
- 23:56Speaker 8: be fortunate enough to be able to make a difference.
- 23:59Speaker 8: And I'm glad to you know, being that they're I'm
- 24:04Speaker 8: glad to being out there, Like you know, Shane, a
- 24:07Speaker 8: realm of the person that they look up to. Man,
- 24:09Speaker 8: And you know, like I said, it really means a
- 24:11Speaker 8: lot to me. And like like I told you all before,
- 24:14Speaker 8: that's whatever a place that I could call home.
- 24:16Speaker 4: So like I said, I hope they just take that,
- 24:18Speaker 4: leave it for what it is.
- 24:19Speaker 8: And uh, you know, however, you know they want to
- 24:23Speaker 8: take it and move forward with it.
- 24:24Speaker 4: That's just I was gonna go.
- 24:26Speaker 1: Chad Johnson finished with the Patriots, but he's a forever Begal. Yeah,
- 24:31Speaker 1: Boomer Assias and played for other teams, but he's a
- 24:33Speaker 1: forever Bengal. Do you think when you're playing careers over
- 24:36Speaker 1: you will be quote unquote a forever Bengal.
- 24:39Speaker 8: Oh yeah, no doubt. That's you know, that's just what
- 24:42Speaker 8: it is. You know, they drogged me when I was twenty,
- 24:45Speaker 8: and uh, you know, I was fortunate enough to get
- 24:47Speaker 8: a good seven great seven years in and I definitely
- 24:51Speaker 8: feel like I came across a lot of teammates that
- 24:54Speaker 8: you know, goes unnoticed during my success individually and always
- 24:59Speaker 8: been a person to no matter what, whether I do
- 25:01Speaker 8: have a good game or a game, I always get
- 25:04Speaker 8: the praise to my teammates. And you know, this is
- 25:08Speaker 8: just another moment you know, trying to glorify the success
- 25:12Speaker 8: that I had, you know, coming from them. I mean,
- 25:15Speaker 8: it was all a team effort. Always been about team
- 25:18Speaker 8: and winning. And I've been fortunate enough to have a
- 25:21Speaker 8: lot of great teammates around me and seeing a lot
- 25:23Speaker 8: of guys walk out and go and unfortunately I was
- 25:27Speaker 8: one of the last ones.
- 25:28Speaker 5: Man.
- 25:28Speaker 8: So uh, you know, like I said, I felt like
- 25:31Speaker 8: it was a great run.
- 25:32Speaker 4: It was a great run.
- 25:33Speaker 8: And uh, you know, I look forward to, you know,
- 25:35Speaker 8: like I said, paying it back to these young kids
- 25:38Speaker 8: and hoping that they can, you know, somehow figure out
- 25:41Speaker 8: a way to get in my shoes, if not better
- 25:44Speaker 8: fingers moments true, I think besides you know, getting drafted, Uh,
- 25:50Speaker 8: I would say, probably going to the super Bowl, whether
- 25:53Speaker 8: it was a win, whose situation. Uh, that probably was
- 25:56Speaker 8: my top Bengals moment. And uh in my career of
- 26:02Speaker 8: being here.
- 26:03Speaker 6: Where you come back and do other stuff here.
- 26:06Speaker 4: I mean, I told y'all, that's forever home. Like that's
- 26:08Speaker 4: that's what it is, you know what I mean. But
- 26:11Speaker 4: I mean, obviously I have a lot of.
- 26:15Speaker 8: Opportunities to come out and do a lot of things here,
- 26:18Speaker 8: and I feel like, you know, if it persists itself,
- 26:22Speaker 8: you know, in the right light.
- 26:24Speaker 4: I feel like with opportunity and.
- 26:28Speaker 1: Right time in I definitely will You're going to a
- 26:31Speaker 1: great young team c Ja's drought, Stefan Diggs, et cetera.
- 26:35Speaker 1: Do you feel like it's kind of where the Bengals
- 26:37Speaker 1: were a few years ago?
- 26:39Speaker 4: Oh?
- 26:39Speaker 8: Yeah, man, I ain't here to really you know, compare
- 26:42Speaker 8: and contrives to you know, the teams.
- 26:45Speaker 4: But I definitely love where.
- 26:48Speaker 8: We stand right now as a team and where we compare,
- 26:51Speaker 8: you know to other teams like that, I feel like
- 26:54Speaker 8: we're in a great situation. I mean, the guys over
- 26:57Speaker 8: there is you know a lot of a lot of great, great,
- 27:00Speaker 8: great players, and I'm great. I'm thankful to be surrounded,
- 27:04Speaker 8: you know, around the team like that that you know,
- 27:08Speaker 8: a lot of guys are hungry, young hungry coach, young
- 27:11Speaker 8: hungry quarterback from the young, hungry, healthy team.
- 27:14Speaker 1: Man.
- 27:14Speaker 8: So you know, I just look forward to all the
- 27:17Speaker 8: memories and all the great things I feel like that
- 27:20Speaker 8: we're gonna do and.
- 27:21Speaker 4: Continue to do moving forward.
- 27:23Speaker 8: And I just you know, obviously look forward to the
- 27:26Speaker 8: twenty twenty fourth season and I can't wait.
- 27:30Speaker 1: You sit after the trade, it took you like twenty
- 27:31Speaker 1: four forty eight hours just to process your emotions. What
- 27:35Speaker 1: were you experiencing?
- 27:36Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean it was a it was a it
- 27:38Speaker 8: was a lot of things.
- 27:39Speaker 1: Man.
- 27:40Speaker 4: You know, like I said, when when you when.
- 27:42Speaker 8: You grow up here your whole adulthood and this this
- 27:45Speaker 8: is what you know and this is what you are.
- 27:47Speaker 8: You know, things were you know, definitely tough. But I
- 27:51Speaker 8: mean it, it is what it is.
- 27:53Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying. They move forward, so it's
- 27:54Speaker 4: time for me, so you know, do the same.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Man.
- 27:57Speaker 4: It is like I said, it is what it is.
- 27:59Speaker 8: And I look forward to, you know, working with my
- 28:02Speaker 8: new teammates and building that same chemistry and camaraderie which
- 28:06Speaker 8: we are doing. And it's a lot of great things
- 28:08Speaker 8: to look forward.
- 28:09Speaker 4: To in that building.
- 28:10Speaker 8: And uh, their fans should definitely be excited for what
- 28:14Speaker 8: we have in store.
- 28:15Speaker 4: So I definitely look forward to it.
- 28:17Speaker 6: Did you ever look up at the Ring of arnor
- 28:19Speaker 6: did you ever look up at the numbers up there
- 28:21Speaker 6: and wonder what we twenty eight.
- 28:23Speaker 4: Looked like up there? Or the name mixing up that?
- 28:27Speaker 4: Any question my own?
- 28:28Speaker 8: I mean, you know, obviously you don't. You don't really
- 28:32Speaker 8: pay attention to that stuff. You know as as a
- 28:35Speaker 8: player until you know it's time to look back and reflect.
- 28:40Speaker 4: But I do feel like, you know, with you know, given.
- 28:44Speaker 8: Situation and everything that's been, you know in store for
- 28:48Speaker 8: me as a as a Bengals player to Begles fans.
- 28:51Speaker 8: I mean, I definitely hope to, you know, see myself
- 28:54Speaker 8: in there one day.
- 28:55Speaker 4: I mean I feel like.
- 28:58Speaker 8: That's a I guess that's for them to decide that.
- 29:01Speaker 8: But when it come down to it, I mean, I'm
- 29:04Speaker 8: just was. I just was fortunate enough to be upon
- 29:07Speaker 8: a lot of great players teams and uh, you know,
- 29:10Speaker 8: be one of those guys to be able to move
- 29:12Speaker 8: a needle force for Cincinnati. You know, came across a
- 29:17Speaker 8: lot of a lot of great people, whether it was
- 29:20Speaker 8: inside the building outside the building, and you know, it
- 29:24Speaker 8: was a it was a great run, man, you know
- 29:26Speaker 8: what I mean. So you know, as I look back,
- 29:28Speaker 8: I mean, obviously I hope to someday be there, and uh,
- 29:32Speaker 8: you know, obviously the cars fall the way it is
- 29:35Speaker 8: supposed to.
- 29:36Speaker 4: Our willity that's going to do it.
