- 0:02Speaker 1: This is Teapot. Hi guys, welcome back to a another
- 0:14Speaker 1: week of Teddy Teapot. I am super excited to talk
- 0:18Speaker 1: about this topic because it's something that I truly live
- 0:22Speaker 1: and breathe every day. We are going to be talking
- 0:25Speaker 1: about lifestyle changes and weight loss. I'm gonna be talking
- 0:28Speaker 1: a little bit about what shifted in me, and then
- 0:31Speaker 1: I'm also going to have on celebrity trainer, Autumn Calibres
- 0:35Speaker 1: and the new coach from the Biggest Loser, Erica Lugo,
- 0:39Speaker 1: who I'm super excited to talk to. Um. But I
- 0:42Speaker 1: just wanted to kind of start out with answering some
- 0:46Speaker 1: listener questions. You know, the first thing that people always
- 0:50Speaker 1: ask me whenever they're like, you know, what made you
- 0:53Speaker 1: change your life? The first thing I can say is
- 0:56Speaker 1: I finally made the decision to do so. For so long,
- 1:01Speaker 1: I had, you know, a chip on my shoulder, and
- 1:05Speaker 1: any time anybody asked me anything about, you know, living
- 1:09Speaker 1: a healthy lifestyle or whatever it was, I would almost
- 1:11Speaker 1: get angry. And I had so many excuses on why
- 1:15Speaker 1: I couldn't make any changes, you know, like, oh, I
- 1:17Speaker 1: can't afford to have a personal trainer and a chef
- 1:20Speaker 1: every day, How am I going to do this? Obviously
- 1:22Speaker 1: I can't or you know, you know, my husband works
- 1:25Speaker 1: a lot and I have the kids, and there's absolutely
- 1:28Speaker 1: no way I can take care of myself. And it
- 1:31Speaker 1: wasn't until I stopped looking to other people and started
- 1:35Speaker 1: looking within that I started making the change and it
- 1:40Speaker 1: was enough is enough. I'm no longer going to discuss
- 1:42Speaker 1: it with my friends, my parents, my siblings, anybody in
- 1:47Speaker 1: my life. I am going to have some hard conversations
- 1:50Speaker 1: with myself. Am I ready to change? Yes? Okay, these
- 1:54Speaker 1: are the things that I'm going to do. And I
- 1:58Speaker 1: think for me, the reason I started all In is
- 2:02Speaker 1: because for me, accountability was key. Because yes, it's easy
- 2:06Speaker 1: to say I'm going to change my life, but then
- 2:09Speaker 1: four days from then, your friends like, what about Margarita's
- 2:14Speaker 1: let's do this, and you're like, well that sounds good,
- 2:17Speaker 1: you know. So for me, I had started an Instagram
- 2:19Speaker 1: to document holding me accountable, and I would almost at
- 2:24Speaker 1: myself and I'd be like, hey, guys, let me know.
- 2:26Speaker 1: So that's why I created the business, which we hold
- 2:29Speaker 1: you accountable to your goals and your plans. You send
- 2:34Speaker 1: us a proof of your breakfast lunch dinner, your snacks,
- 2:37Speaker 1: which is a key thing. I never realized that if
- 2:40Speaker 1: you actually eat in the right time frame, you no
- 2:45Speaker 1: longer get hungry and make bad last minute decisions, which
- 2:49Speaker 1: is something I would always do. So some of the
- 2:51Speaker 1: key things that I like to get out there is
- 2:54Speaker 1: always try to eat breakfast by ten am, lunch by
- 2:58Speaker 1: two pm, dinner by eight pm. I eat even earlier
- 3:01Speaker 1: than that, but that's on the later scale. If you're
- 3:04Speaker 1: doing that and you're having a snack between each one,
- 3:07Speaker 1: then you're not getting to that desperation point where you're like,
- 3:11Speaker 1: I need to pull into the taco bell and go ham,
- 3:13Speaker 1: you know. So those are key things. Um, somebody asked
- 3:18Speaker 1: what my food diary looks like on a typical day. So,
- 3:21Speaker 1: for example, this morning, I woke up, I had a
- 3:25Speaker 1: glass of water before I had anything else. Um, I
- 3:28Speaker 1: did my workout early because I had to take the
- 3:31Speaker 1: kiddos to school. So I did my workout and then
- 3:35Speaker 1: I had some oatmeal, which is not brain surgery. You
- 3:39Speaker 1: just go pick up oats and not the ones that
- 3:41Speaker 1: come with all the brown sugar and the candy and
- 3:44Speaker 1: like the dinosaur eggs or whatever it is, But just
- 3:47Speaker 1: pick up some old fashioned oats, add a little bit
- 3:50Speaker 1: of brown sugar or a gave and add some berries
- 3:53Speaker 1: and mix it all together and it's good. And then
- 3:55Speaker 1: I throw a little snack in my bag, which could
- 3:58Speaker 1: be a clementine or an apple or some cash shows
- 4:01Speaker 1: unsalted um. Then for lunch, I will have something easy.
- 4:07Speaker 1: I used to think, Oh, if I'm going to be healthy,
- 4:09Speaker 1: it means I have to meal prep and it's gonna
- 4:12Speaker 1: take me hours and hours and hours, and I need
- 4:14Speaker 1: a celebrity chef every single time, you know whatever. No,
- 4:18Speaker 1: I could throw in some arugula, quenoa, chopped peppers, balsamic um,
- 4:26Speaker 1: avocado and put it in a little tupperware and then
- 4:28Speaker 1: I can take it with me on the go. And
- 4:30Speaker 1: then I make sure to have an afternoon snack, which
- 4:33Speaker 1: for me, I love just chopping up some peppers and
- 4:37Speaker 1: some cucumbers, adding a little lemon juice to it. And
- 4:40Speaker 1: then for dinner, I keep it really simple. Um. I
- 4:44Speaker 1: will have something like even like a white bean and
- 4:48Speaker 1: chicken sausage soup with the side of avocado, or I
- 4:52Speaker 1: would have like zoodles with um, like a bolonnaise sauce
- 4:57Speaker 1: that I made, but just something like my bigger meals
- 5:00Speaker 1: are at the beginning of the day, especially when I'm
- 5:02Speaker 1: not pregnant, and then it seems more manageable. We end
- 5:06Speaker 1: up making things such a bigger deal in our head
- 5:10Speaker 1: that we can't then accomplish the goals that we want
- 5:13Speaker 1: to accomplish. And I think also we're stuck in our ways.
- 5:17Speaker 1: So a lot of times people say, well, I don't
- 5:19Speaker 1: have time to work out, and you know what, I
- 5:22Speaker 1: get it, but that you're also saying to yourself, I'm
- 5:25Speaker 1: gonna work out. That means I'm gonna work out. I'm
- 5:26Speaker 1: gonna give a hund percent every single day. I'm gonna
- 5:28Speaker 1: run this way. No, give yourself permission to take it easy,
- 5:32Speaker 1: but to still be active. So if you wake up
- 5:35Speaker 1: one day and you say I don't feel like working out,
- 5:37Speaker 1: then go on a walk, but still hold yourself accountable
- 5:41Speaker 1: to that hour you spend every single day. Another common
- 5:45Speaker 1: thing that comes up is the scale, which is like
- 5:51Speaker 1: a dirty, dirty word to a lot of people, and
- 5:53Speaker 1: it was to me for many many years. I remember
- 5:56Speaker 1: when I um I was over two pounds, and I
- 6:02Speaker 1: would honestly have rage at the scale and I used
- 6:05Speaker 1: I used the scale to punish myself. And it wasn't
- 6:08Speaker 1: until I started shifting my mindset and saying, the scale
- 6:12Speaker 1: is actually to show me what works for my body
- 6:15Speaker 1: and what doesn't, and it's not punishment, it's just to
- 6:19Speaker 1: give you a kind of here you go. Because what
- 6:21Speaker 1: used to happen is I would do these fad diets.
- 6:25Speaker 1: I'd lose weight, never step on the scale again, and
- 6:28Speaker 1: then never do anything to hold myself accountable to this
- 6:32Speaker 1: fad diet that I had done, and then here you
- 6:35Speaker 1: go three months later and I've gained all the weight
- 6:37Speaker 1: back again. How did it happen? Because I didn't want
- 6:41Speaker 1: to know. So I think that there's a healthy way
- 6:44Speaker 1: to use the scale to know like, Okay, this is
- 6:47Speaker 1: what works for me and this is what doesn't, and
- 6:49Speaker 1: there's a way to use it as punishment. So you
- 6:51Speaker 1: have to take a good look within yourself to kind
- 6:54Speaker 1: of do that. And then I'd say, the other biggest
- 6:56Speaker 1: thing for me is you can't look to be motivated.
- 7:01Speaker 1: You have to commit. Motivation waivers one hundred percent. Commitment doesn't.
- 7:09Speaker 1: So if you commit to yourself and you say I'm
- 7:12Speaker 1: going to commit to doing these following things and every morning,
- 7:15Speaker 1: you you know, you say what you're grateful for, you
- 7:18Speaker 1: follow through with what you're committed to. You no longer
- 7:21Speaker 1: have to look to your friend, this trainer, whomever it
- 7:25Speaker 1: may be, to motivate you to do what you're committed
- 7:29Speaker 1: to doing. So once I shifted that, now it's really
- 7:32Speaker 1: I'm no longer playing that game with myself. Am I motivated?
- 7:36Speaker 1: Who cares? It doesn't matter if I'm motivated. And you
- 7:38Speaker 1: know what, most of the time, once I get to
- 7:40Speaker 1: the gym or once I get on the peloton bike
- 7:42Speaker 1: or whatever it is that I'm doing, fifteen minutes in,
- 7:45Speaker 1: even though I may have started in a total junker mood,
- 7:48Speaker 1: feeling lethargic, I'm feeling better after. So those are the
- 7:51Speaker 1: things to kind of keep reminding yourself and remember no
- 7:55Speaker 1: matter who it is that you're following, that's in the
- 7:58Speaker 1: fitness or you know, lifestyle change, world of Instagram or
- 8:03Speaker 1: whatever it may be, is they don't feel every single day.
- 8:07Speaker 1: So if you're looking at them and you're saying, wow,
- 8:10Speaker 1: they wake up and they are positive every single day
- 8:12Speaker 1: and they are kicking butt and that's not me, And
- 8:15Speaker 1: one comparison is going to steal your joy. But to
- 8:19Speaker 1: know that you're seeing their highlight reel. You're seeing them
- 8:23Speaker 1: at their very best. We all have ups and downs,
- 8:27Speaker 1: but the important part is is that you hold your
- 8:30Speaker 1: word to yourself because if you hold the word to yourself,
- 8:34Speaker 1: you start building confidence. And once you're confident and trusting
- 8:37Speaker 1: your own word, I'm telling you, it's endless the things
- 8:41Speaker 1: that you can accomplish. So I am super excited to
- 8:46Speaker 1: bring on these guests and hear from them. But that's
- 8:50Speaker 1: just you know, a little bit of the basics for
- 8:52Speaker 1: me on what has truly changed my life. Also, when
- 8:58Speaker 1: you're in the process of changing your life, when you
- 9:02Speaker 1: start being grateful and when you start thinking about how
- 9:05Speaker 1: you can help others change their life in any capacity,
- 9:09Speaker 1: you're going to start to be able to do more
- 9:11Speaker 1: when you stop thinking only about yourself. But like, what
- 9:17Speaker 1: will this do? So when I started changing my life
- 9:20Speaker 1: and I started feeling better, I realized, Wow, I have
- 9:22Speaker 1: a lot more energy to be a better mom. Wow,
- 9:26Speaker 1: I'm actually excited to see my husband when he comes
- 9:29Speaker 1: home from work today because I'm proud of the day
- 9:31Speaker 1: that I just had. Or oh my gosh, I can't
- 9:35Speaker 1: wait to go on this hike with my girlfriends that
- 9:37Speaker 1: I've scheduled, or we can all talk about our goals
- 9:39Speaker 1: for this year versus I can't wait to go to
- 9:42Speaker 1: Margarita's and go complain about our husbands, which you know what,
- 9:45Speaker 1: we do that sometimes too, but you know what I'm saying.
- 9:48Speaker 1: But anyways, I am looking forward to talking to Autumn
- 9:50Speaker 1: and Erica. So we're gonna take a little break and
- 9:53Speaker 1: then they'll come back. All right, guys, now we are
- 10:03Speaker 1: back with Autumn Calibris, which I'm so excited. I want
- 10:06Speaker 1: to Can you just give us a little background on
- 10:09Speaker 1: yourself for the listeners. I mean, I know all about
- 10:11Speaker 1: you and plus I've done double stocking, but if you
- 10:13Speaker 1: could give them a little thanks for having me on. Um. So,
- 10:17Speaker 1: I'm a fitness and nutrition expert. I'm with Beach Body.
- 10:20Speaker 1: I've been with them for about seven years now, created
- 10:23Speaker 1: eight different programs, everything from one Day Fix and twenty
- 10:26Speaker 1: one Day Fix Extreme to eighty Day Obsession. I have
- 10:30Speaker 1: a full nutrition program called the Ultimate Portion Fix out
- 10:32Speaker 1: with them, to cookbooks, a cooking show. I stay very busy.
- 10:37Speaker 1: You're very very busy, and so a lot of people
- 10:40Speaker 1: are in this whole mindset of like New decade. I
- 10:43Speaker 1: gotta be this new me, and like for me, I'm like,
- 10:46Speaker 1: let's do day by day. Yes, Because we start thinking
- 10:49Speaker 1: like that, then we set ourselves up to kind of
- 10:51Speaker 1: be disappointed because we expect we're going to have this
- 10:53Speaker 1: complete new outlook on life starting where really it's like, no,
- 10:57Speaker 1: you're gonna have to make that decision each day. And
- 11:00Speaker 1: so what would you give What kind of advice would
- 11:03Speaker 1: you give somebody looking to change their life coming into Yeah,
- 11:08Speaker 1: I say the same thing as you. You know, everybody
- 11:10Speaker 1: was like January one, and I was like, you guys,
- 11:12Speaker 1: it's Wednesday. Yesterday was Tuesday, Today's Wednesday. Like, there's no
- 11:16Speaker 1: magic dust that got sprinkled because it was the first
- 11:19Speaker 1: of the year. The magic dust has to come from
- 11:21Speaker 1: inside you. So like you have to get up, whether
- 11:24Speaker 1: it's you know, January one, the first Wednesday of a
- 11:26Speaker 1: new year in a new decade, or it's any other
- 11:28Speaker 1: random Wednesday of the year, and you have to get
- 11:31Speaker 1: up and make that choice to go after your goals,
- 11:34Speaker 1: to live that healthier life yourself, show up for yourself.
- 11:38Speaker 1: And and everybody kind of looks for a um, a
- 11:43Speaker 1: magic motivation or an inspiration, and I tell people, you know,
- 11:46Speaker 1: that's really there. You won't be motivated every day. I'm
- 11:49Speaker 1: not motivated every day, but I'm disciplined, so really, you
- 11:52Speaker 1: have to work on being disciplined. I have conversations with
- 11:55Speaker 1: myself every day. Might sound crazy, so I just actually
- 11:58Speaker 1: said the same thing, but I said committed. Yeah, I'm like,
- 12:02Speaker 1: you know, we think, oh, we're going to be motivated
- 12:03Speaker 1: because I follow autumn and every day I see her
- 12:06Speaker 1: looking motivate, like, probably not motivated every single day, but committed, committed, absolutely,
- 12:12Speaker 1: generally sat always motivated, but absolutely I'm like, you know, what,
- 12:16Speaker 1: it's thirty minutes or it's one hour, or like, you know,
- 12:19Speaker 1: do I really want the chocolate cake three days in
- 12:22Speaker 1: a row or was it good that one day? And
- 12:23Speaker 1: I can wait a week again or two weeks until
- 12:25Speaker 1: I have another little dessert? Like that's really all it is.
- 12:28Speaker 1: I don't think I have any Um. I don't feel
- 12:30Speaker 1: deprived in any way in my life. I don't feel
- 12:33Speaker 1: like I have like I'm missing out on any fun
- 12:35Speaker 1: or foods. I have cocktails, I go out with friends. UM,
- 12:39Speaker 1: I don't feel like i'm you know, I'm not spending
- 12:41Speaker 1: hours in the gym like I did when I was
- 12:42Speaker 1: a fitness competitor. I feel like I have a really
- 12:45Speaker 1: well rounded, balanced life, but I still make those choices
- 12:49Speaker 1: of like sometimes I'm going to have the chocolate cake
- 12:52Speaker 1: like I did the other night with my son and
- 12:54Speaker 1: we shared it at dinner, and other times I'm not
- 12:56Speaker 1: going to have the chocolate cake because it doesn't suit
- 12:58Speaker 1: my overall goal right, And it's it's truly a decision
- 13:02Speaker 1: that you can make, not somebody else can say for you, Oh,
- 13:04Speaker 1: come on, live a little and if you have people
- 13:07Speaker 1: in your life that are doing that, no, it's about them,
- 13:10Speaker 1: not you. That's a hard one. People. I get that
- 13:12Speaker 1: question all the time, like I don't have support or
- 13:15Speaker 1: like I mean, some of the posts I get are
- 13:17Speaker 1: really upsetting where it's just like my boyfriend will literally
- 13:19Speaker 1: order a large pizza and eat it in front of
- 13:21Speaker 1: my face to taunt me. And that's disappointing because you know,
- 13:25Speaker 1: somebody is working to better themselves and will power gets
- 13:29Speaker 1: exhausted at a certain point, so it is frustrating. But
- 13:33Speaker 1: when people say like, oh, I'm I'm binge eating at
- 13:36Speaker 1: night and I'm doing this and I'm like, but why
- 13:38Speaker 1: is it there? But why Look, there aren't oreos in
- 13:42Speaker 1: my house I know that, Like I love them, I
- 13:45Speaker 1: will eat them if they're there, make no mistake about it.
- 13:47Speaker 1: I just don't go down the Oreo aisle and buy them,
- 13:50Speaker 1: which which is also why I don't grocery shop when
- 13:53Speaker 1: I'm very hungry. Yes, because if you grocery shop when
- 13:56Speaker 1: you're hungry, you are going to make bad decisions. Yes,
- 14:00Speaker 1: you're like, oh, that looks good. I'm just gonna have
- 14:03Speaker 1: a bite of that. No you're not. You're gonna eat
- 14:05Speaker 1: the whole thing. So just don't even bother. Can you
- 14:08Speaker 1: tell me a little bit about your nutrition program, Ultimate
- 14:11Speaker 1: Portion Fixed. Yes. So it's actually a program that came
- 14:14Speaker 1: out with the twenty one Day Fix, uh, almost seven
- 14:17Speaker 1: years ago now, and it really started fairly basic. There
- 14:20Speaker 1: was there was the three basic principles behind it, but
- 14:23Speaker 1: we focused on one of them. So the three main
- 14:25Speaker 1: principles are portion control, balanced macro nutrients, and then significantly
- 14:29Speaker 1: reducing or hopefully eliminating the overly highly processed foods uh.
- 14:34Speaker 1: And it came from sort of two fold. It came
- 14:37Speaker 1: from watching my clients struggle when I was working in
- 14:40Speaker 1: the gyms and I was training people four in five
- 14:42Speaker 1: days a week. And then fluctuating constantly and me not
- 14:45Speaker 1: really truly understanding, like what the heck, Like we're in here,
- 14:48Speaker 1: we're doing the work. And they would tell me what
- 14:49Speaker 1: they were eating. And I was out one day with
- 14:51Speaker 1: one of my clients and we had these we ordered
- 14:53Speaker 1: salads from California Chicken Cafe. They're enormous. She like the
- 14:57Speaker 1: whole thing and I was like, that's our problem. She's like,
- 14:59Speaker 1: it's a sa laid and I was like, you know,
- 15:01Speaker 1: there's pasta, there's chicken, there's cheese, there's croutons, there's dressing
- 15:05Speaker 1: to cover the salad. That's four servings big, and you
- 15:08Speaker 1: ate it all. And that was lunch. You had breakfast
- 15:11Speaker 1: and you still have the rest of the day to go.
- 15:13Speaker 1: So we need to look at portion control and like
- 15:15Speaker 1: why that's important because we were in this society. Now
- 15:18Speaker 1: everything's oversized and supersize and family size and it's only
- 15:21Speaker 1: getting worse. It's only getting worse. And then, you know,
- 15:25Speaker 1: so often I see people where they're trying to eat
- 15:27Speaker 1: healthy and they and in a way that they are,
- 15:30Speaker 1: but their macros aren't balanced. So maybe they're overeating on
- 15:34Speaker 1: carbohydrates but they're not getting quite enough protein or they're
- 15:37Speaker 1: really high on their fats, but but they don't have
- 15:40Speaker 1: enough fruits and vegetables. So just showing them what the
- 15:44Speaker 1: balance is and I made it really easy. There these
- 15:47Speaker 1: rainbow color coated containers. They're different sizes, and each container
- 15:51Speaker 1: represents a different food group. So like your red as
- 15:53Speaker 1: your protein, your green is your vegetables, Purples, fruit, yellows carbohydrates.
- 15:57Speaker 1: You get blue for healthy fats and orange for seeds
- 15:59Speaker 1: and salad dressings. So all you have to do is
- 16:03Speaker 1: look at the foodless and be like, oh, okay, I'm
- 16:05Speaker 1: gonna have chicken, so I can have this much chicken.
- 16:07Speaker 1: And oh I'm gonna have you know, potatoes, so I
- 16:10Speaker 1: get this much potatoes. Um, and you get a certain
- 16:12Speaker 1: You get to fill those containers multiple times until it
- 16:15Speaker 1: becomes second nature, and then it becomes second nature and
- 16:18Speaker 1: and there's you know, at first, people were like, well
- 16:20Speaker 1: if When it first came out, people were loving it,
- 16:21Speaker 1: having amazing success, but they were getting a little bit
- 16:23Speaker 1: bored with just foodless, Like, okay, great autumn, I can
- 16:26Speaker 1: do put chicken, broccoli and rice on a plate, But
- 16:28Speaker 1: like what if I want enchiladas, Like what are my
- 16:30Speaker 1: enchiladas Countess and that's where the first cookbook came from.
- 16:34Speaker 1: And the first cookbook came out about four years ago.
- 16:36Speaker 1: That's sold over six hundred thousand copies. We turned it
- 16:39Speaker 1: into Thank You, We turned into a cooking show, and
- 16:41Speaker 1: then this past March we launched volume two of the cookbook,
- 16:44Speaker 1: which is almost at two copies already. Um so there's
- 16:48Speaker 1: well over three recipes where they're all portioned out. They
- 16:52Speaker 1: all say the containers. And I think the biggest thing
- 16:55Speaker 1: is we all make it harder in our heads than
- 16:58Speaker 1: it actually is. Two meal prep because people will show
- 17:01Speaker 1: their fridge wood they have like like thirty days all
- 17:05Speaker 1: planned out. It looks so neat, and I'm like, that's
- 17:07Speaker 1: not reality, guys. Looks like nobody's fridge actually looks like
- 17:11Speaker 1: that in those beautifully placed Mason jars. And if they do,
- 17:14Speaker 1: it's destroyed in four days. But like, start small and
- 17:18Speaker 1: figure out what works for you. And maybe you're a
- 17:20Speaker 1: person that can do it all week. I'm not, because
- 17:23Speaker 1: by Wednesday I'm not really wanting what I thought i'd
- 17:25Speaker 1: want on Thursday. So I do like two or three days,
- 17:28Speaker 1: and that's what kind of works for me. And then
- 17:30Speaker 1: you get to a place where you can do it
- 17:33Speaker 1: on the fly. Yes, you don't have to prep it's
- 17:36Speaker 1: like two minutes. It takes time. And I tell people
- 17:38Speaker 1: to like, if you just have the if you just
- 17:40Speaker 1: have the things on hand right, like have vegetables on
- 17:43Speaker 1: handhand and chopped on hand and chopped, and like have
- 17:46Speaker 1: the fruit on hand and have a lean protein or
- 17:48Speaker 1: two that you can you know, throw in a frying
- 17:49Speaker 1: pan with some seasonings, like worst case scenario, you can
- 17:52Speaker 1: always whip something up. I will say this, like I
- 17:54Speaker 1: decided for the month of January to go plant base.
- 17:58Speaker 1: Like I live a fairly plan based routine as it is,
- 18:02Speaker 1: but I decided to go a hundred percent plant based
- 18:04Speaker 1: for January. Now I have a full vegan plan as
- 18:06Speaker 1: part of my container program. But what I've been trying
- 18:08Speaker 1: to explain to people for the last week is like
- 18:10Speaker 1: there's something very different about intellectually knowing and actually doing
- 18:14Speaker 1: they actually doing. I'm not gonna lie, it's frustrating. It's
- 18:17Speaker 1: new to me. Like I don't normally eat all plants,
- 18:21Speaker 1: like I normally can have chicken or fish or whatever.
- 18:24Speaker 1: So even for me, I'm now sitting in the boat
- 18:26Speaker 1: that a lot of people are sitting in of like
- 18:28Speaker 1: this is new, this is foreignd this this takes some
- 18:31Speaker 1: extra thinking. You know, I have mornings where I wake
- 18:34Speaker 1: up and I'm like, oh, I could just you know,
- 18:36Speaker 1: make my regular like breakfast sausage to be done with this.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Nobody would know, but I would know. I committed myself
- 18:42Speaker 1: to this month of being a plant base. I want
- 18:44Speaker 1: to stick it out. Like so people just need to
- 18:47Speaker 1: understand that it's gonna get It's gonna be hard before
- 18:49Speaker 1: it gets easier. Yeah, if you just gotta work. Yeah,
- 18:52Speaker 1: if you're not having uncomfortable times, then you're not growing exactly.
- 18:55Speaker 1: You're just doing the exact same thing, which I fully
- 18:57Speaker 1: I fully get at. And when you first started, you
- 19:01Speaker 1: were a personal trainer, living paycheck to paycheck. What was
- 19:04Speaker 1: the lightbulb moment where you were like, listen, I can
- 19:07Speaker 1: do more to influence people's lives positively make this change,
- 19:11Speaker 1: Like what was it for you? And does that also
- 19:14Speaker 1: like help hold you accountable to staying committed. I think
- 19:19Speaker 1: I had like that dream had been there for a
- 19:21Speaker 1: very long time, Like even when I was getting my
- 19:24Speaker 1: very first personal training certification, I knew I wanted to
- 19:26Speaker 1: help people on a big scale like I had when
- 19:30Speaker 1: I did my first interview with this in home fitness
- 19:33Speaker 1: company that I was doing, and she's like, what's your
- 19:34Speaker 1: ten year goal? I said to her, I was like,
- 19:37Speaker 1: I want to put on like these big events and
- 19:39Speaker 1: have them sponsored and have families come, and like, really,
- 19:42Speaker 1: I want to make an impact globally like big, But
- 19:46Speaker 1: you gotta start somewhere. You have to start small. So
- 19:48Speaker 1: I always knew that when the AHA moment came in
- 19:52Speaker 1: terms of nutrition, Like I said when I was sitting
- 19:54Speaker 1: there at that lunch with my client that day and
- 19:56Speaker 1: I watched her eat that enormous salad, and I was like,
- 20:00Speaker 1: something's got to be done, Like you can over eat
- 20:02Speaker 1: on healthy food too, and we just have lost touch
- 20:06Speaker 1: with what the point is of food right, Like food
- 20:09Speaker 1: is fuel, we've turned it into everything else. Really, I
- 20:13Speaker 1: tell people all the time, nutrition is easy, you guys,
- 20:16Speaker 1: is not that hard. Everybody knows like, drink your water,
- 20:18Speaker 1: eat your vegetables, eat your fruit like eas your leading protein.
- 20:20Speaker 1: Don't eat like the bag of oreos. But we intellectually
- 20:24Speaker 1: know that that's not the hard part. We're emotional eaters.
- 20:28Speaker 1: We have gotten away from like eat to feel your
- 20:31Speaker 1: body I'm hungry, I need to eat. I'm not hungry.
- 20:33Speaker 1: I don't need to eat. We eat for every other reason.
- 20:36Speaker 1: Now we eat because we're bored, because we're sad, angry, frustrated.
- 20:39Speaker 1: I had a bad day. I'm going to go drink
- 20:40Speaker 1: a bottle of wine. Like, we need to get a
- 20:42Speaker 1: hold of our emotions. Yeah, we eat for justification. Yes, yes,
- 20:46Speaker 1: I deserve this. I deserve this. I need this, I
- 20:50Speaker 1: you know, in order to see this person. Like I
- 20:53Speaker 1: was realizing I had an issue when I didn't even
- 20:55Speaker 1: care about who I was going to dinner with. I
- 20:56Speaker 1: cared about where I was going to dinner. Yeah, Like,
- 20:59Speaker 1: and then I realized, do I even like this person?
- 21:01Speaker 1: I'm really all I care about is where we're going
- 21:04Speaker 1: and what time and if it suits all the things
- 21:06Speaker 1: that I want to be eating and drinking. Yes, probably not,
- 21:09Speaker 1: probably not. Yeah you're like, yeah, maybe I don't want
- 21:11Speaker 1: to hang out with you and that token you were
- 21:13Speaker 1: on revenge? Body, Do you truly think that changing your
- 21:17Speaker 1: life in order to like get revenge on somebody else
- 21:20Speaker 1: that's gonna work long term? Or it doesn't matter what
- 21:23Speaker 1: your motivation is to start, or well, here's the thing,
- 21:26Speaker 1: Like I had seen Revenge Body before, so I actually
- 21:29Speaker 1: understood the premise of the show. The name is a
- 21:31Speaker 1: catchy title, and I think, you know, everybody asked me
- 21:35Speaker 1: that question, like isn't that a terrible reason to get
- 21:37Speaker 1: in shape? And I'm like, yes, that that actually, like
- 21:40Speaker 1: revenge is it is a horrible reason because it really
- 21:43Speaker 1: can't be about an outside force. You're never gonna stick
- 21:45Speaker 1: with that. It has to be internal. But if you
- 21:48Speaker 1: watch the show once somebody has picked and they're working
- 21:51Speaker 1: with their trainer, like our goal is immediately to flip
- 21:54Speaker 1: that switch on them, like to take it off of Like, yes,
- 21:57Speaker 1: I want to understand what they went through because again
- 22:00Speaker 1: I need to work through those emotions of like Okay,
- 22:03Speaker 1: you were betrayed, you have an issue with trust, you're angry,
- 22:07Speaker 1: you don't feel worthy. Don't want to work through that.
- 22:09Speaker 1: But I don't want to make it about the person
- 22:11Speaker 1: you're getting revenge on, because really, forget them, they're gone,
- 22:15Speaker 1: You're better without them, Like, let's focus on you. What
- 22:17Speaker 1: do you want? Which I completely agree, And so many
- 22:20Speaker 1: people are like, oh, I'm on the divorce diet or
- 22:23Speaker 1: the blah blah, here's the thing, And I I definitely
- 22:26Speaker 1: was out of place when I decided to change my life.
- 22:28Speaker 1: When you know, I was over two pounds, I was struggling,
- 22:31Speaker 1: and my husband could eat a chip in front of
- 22:33Speaker 1: me and it would give me rage. And then when
- 22:36Speaker 1: he would like try to be supportive, I was such
- 22:38Speaker 1: a jerk, Like he'd be like, oh, do you want
- 22:40Speaker 1: to go to running? What do you say? I need you?
- 22:42Speaker 1: Like I was on him. So it wasn't ever that
- 22:45Speaker 1: I was on when I decided to change my life.
- 22:47Speaker 1: It was to get revenge on my husband. It was
- 22:51Speaker 1: I don't want to have to look to my husband
- 22:53Speaker 1: to make me feel good every day. I want to
- 22:56Speaker 1: feel good every day because I'm taking action. And I
- 22:59Speaker 1: think that that's what we sometimes forget. You know it
- 23:02Speaker 1: maybe that husband or that best friend or that whatever
- 23:05Speaker 1: that's you know, driving you crazy, But really it's got
- 23:09Speaker 1: to be how you feel about yourself, right because there's Look,
- 23:12Speaker 1: there's plenty of people out there that are of different
- 23:14Speaker 1: sizes that are very proud of their size and they
- 23:17Speaker 1: have no issue with somebody saying something about that their size.
- 23:21Speaker 1: So you and I mean, look, it happens in both ways, right, Like,
- 23:25Speaker 1: Like I think we assumed that quote like fat shaming
- 23:29Speaker 1: if you could see me I'm doing, you know the
- 23:30Speaker 1: air quotes. Fat shaming happens more, but skinny shaping shaming
- 23:34Speaker 1: happens just as much. I get it all the time.
- 23:36Speaker 1: I get people commenting like, you're so skinny, you look sick.
- 23:39Speaker 1: Why don't you eat a cheeseburger, And I'm like, I
- 23:42Speaker 1: do eat cheeseburgers, like, and no matter what side of
- 23:46Speaker 1: it you're on, you don't get it. I remember, you know,
- 23:48Speaker 1: when people would when I was, you know, really in
- 23:51Speaker 1: a place where I've everything offended me and somebody say like, gosh,
- 23:56Speaker 1: I can't gain weight, I'd be like, oh, I feel
- 23:57Speaker 1: so sorry for you, because I could only worry about myself,
- 24:01Speaker 1: you know, I can't actually have empathy for somebody else
- 24:04Speaker 1: and what they're going through. And that's something we got
- 24:06Speaker 1: to think about. We all have to like be a
- 24:08Speaker 1: little bit more empathetic, understand that we all go through
- 24:11Speaker 1: different things in our life at different times, and really
- 24:14Speaker 1: it's just about feeling good in our own skin, whatever
- 24:17Speaker 1: that whatever that may be for you, Like you're on
- 24:19Speaker 1: your journey and that's what it's about. Yeah, for sure.
- 24:23Speaker 1: Unfortunately we have to take a little break and then
- 24:24Speaker 1: we're going to come back with Erica Lugo from the
- 24:27Speaker 1: Biggest Loser. Hi, Erica, how are you doing? I'm good?
- 24:38Speaker 1: How are you good? I've just been looking so much
- 24:41Speaker 1: into your story and I'm so inspired and I love
- 24:44Speaker 1: it and I was so grateful that you are able
- 24:47Speaker 1: to come on today. Well, thank you. I appreciate that.
- 24:50Speaker 1: Do you mind giving my listeners a little background on
- 24:55Speaker 1: on yourself? Yeah, well I am. I just her thirty
- 25:00Speaker 1: three years old, about five on Christmas Day, so about
- 25:06Speaker 1: five and a half years ago. I weighed three and
- 25:08Speaker 1: twenty two pounds, and um I was I am a
- 25:12Speaker 1: single mom. I just got engaged too, so that will
- 25:14Speaker 1: be changing soon. But um, I'm a single mom. And
- 25:17Speaker 1: you know, my son was looking up at me asking
- 25:19Speaker 1: me to play with him, and I was on the
- 25:22Speaker 1: couch and eating some kind of snack and I just
- 25:24Speaker 1: straight up told my kid no. And I told him
- 25:27Speaker 1: no because I didn't even have the energy or the
- 25:30Speaker 1: desire to get up and play, or just I didn't
- 25:33Speaker 1: want to get up off the couch. And something in
- 25:36Speaker 1: me was just like, WHOA, he didn't ask to be
- 25:39Speaker 1: in this world. You brought him here, and you don't
- 25:41Speaker 1: even have the energy to play with him. So, um,
- 25:44Speaker 1: I decided to start with the basics. I've honestly been
- 25:46Speaker 1: overweight my whole entire life. I've tried every single diet
- 25:49Speaker 1: you can imagine, um, and I just started with the basics.
- 25:52Speaker 1: I signed up at a local gym. I started, you know,
- 25:55Speaker 1: watching my calories, working out more, and then over the
- 25:58Speaker 1: last five and a half years, it's a all from
- 26:00Speaker 1: that girl to now being a trainer on the Biggest Loser,
- 26:04Speaker 1: a hundred and sixty pounds down, building my own fitness brand.
- 26:08Speaker 1: And it's just it's not what's happened to my life
- 26:10Speaker 1: in five and a half years. It's so exciting. And
- 26:13Speaker 1: all of this also while battling cancer. Correct, Yeah, so
- 26:18Speaker 1: this I haven't even been. It just was a year
- 26:21Speaker 1: the day after Thanksgiving that I got diagnosed. So I
- 26:23Speaker 1: got diagnosed in two thousand eighteen, the day after Thanksgiving.
- 26:27Speaker 1: I had actually gotten a really bad car accident that October.
- 26:31Speaker 1: I blacked out, completely, just blacked out while driving. Have
- 26:34Speaker 1: no idea why, um, I should not be alive in
- 26:37Speaker 1: that car accident, completely totaled my car. But that car
- 26:40Speaker 1: accident happened for a reason, And you know, when I
- 26:43Speaker 1: went to go get my m r I for my
- 26:45Speaker 1: head in my neck. Once they took me to the hospital,
- 26:48Speaker 1: they found a small mass on the right side of
- 26:49Speaker 1: my neck, and the day after Thanksgiving I had a
- 26:52Speaker 1: biopsy and it said I had stage two capillary thyroid
- 26:56Speaker 1: cancer and it is already spread to my limps nodes
- 27:00Speaker 1: um and I was going to have to have surgery
- 27:02Speaker 1: and radiation as soon as possible to to get going
- 27:05Speaker 1: on it. So in January of two thousand nineteen, I
- 27:09Speaker 1: had a full thyroid ectomy, so they took out my
- 27:12Speaker 1: full thyroid and thirty three lemp notes because it had
- 27:14Speaker 1: spread to that many. And then in March I had
- 27:18Speaker 1: my radiation treatment, and then in July I had my
- 27:23Speaker 1: first blood scan in thyroid scan, just to see if
- 27:26Speaker 1: there was any visibility of the disease, and thankfully it
- 27:30Speaker 1: came back clear. But you know, technically they don't say
- 27:33Speaker 1: you are cancer free for three to five years, so
- 27:36Speaker 1: it's it'll be a long journey. But right now my
- 27:38Speaker 1: body is is learning to recover and do life without
- 27:41Speaker 1: a syroid, and what radiation did to my body did
- 27:44Speaker 1: a lot too, so it's it's been a constant recovery journey.
- 27:47Speaker 1: But I've yeah, I've gone through all that while bouting
- 27:49Speaker 1: cancer too. I mean that's huge. And what do you
- 27:53Speaker 1: think if you could say, like, these are the three
- 27:56Speaker 1: things that I've shifted in my life that has made
- 27:59Speaker 1: me still this outlook and still take care of myself
- 28:02Speaker 1: during this time for our listeners to hear, what would
- 28:05Speaker 1: you think those are? Um? You know, honestly, it's just you.
- 28:09Speaker 1: You gotta put yourself first. And I don't think you
- 28:12Speaker 1: know as a mother. For me, that's been the biggest
- 28:14Speaker 1: thing is you know, self care is not selfish. You're
- 28:17Speaker 1: gonna have a lot of trials and tribulations throughout your journey,
- 28:21Speaker 1: and life is gonna, Matthew, where it hurts sometimes and
- 28:24Speaker 1: you're never gonna accept it. But when you learn to
- 28:26Speaker 1: put yourself first and put your foot down and set boundaries,
- 28:29Speaker 1: I've honestly believed, like that's what's helped me overcome everything.
- 28:33Speaker 1: I completely agree. Like self care has almost become like
- 28:37Speaker 1: a dirty word, you know when it comes to parenting,
- 28:39Speaker 1: and then especially in the world of like mom shaming.
- 28:42Speaker 1: You know, other moms are like how could you do this?
- 28:46Speaker 1: You know, why would you want to do your poor kids?
- 28:48Speaker 1: Like I'll be working out and they'll see my son
- 28:50Speaker 1: behind me, like just playing around, like doing his like
- 28:53Speaker 1: little abs. I mean, he's five, he's like trying to
- 28:55Speaker 1: have a people like it's just disgusting that you would
- 28:58Speaker 1: show him this, and I'm like, show him what like
- 29:01Speaker 1: living healthy? It drives me nuts. When I first started
- 29:05Speaker 1: losing weight, and you know, the world of being online
- 29:07Speaker 1: and being quote unquote an influencer, you're gonna get terrible
- 29:12Speaker 1: things said about you and to you. And that was
- 29:14Speaker 1: definitely a thing when I first started losing weight. Is
- 29:17Speaker 1: everyone said, well, don't you feel bad like you're a
- 29:20Speaker 1: terrible mother for going to the gym every day and
- 29:22Speaker 1: doing this, and that could be time with your son.
- 29:25Speaker 1: You're only gonna get this time once in his life.
- 29:27Speaker 1: And the way I look at it is I'm actually
- 29:30Speaker 1: teaching my son that being healthy, going to the gym,
- 29:34Speaker 1: and taking care of yourself is a normal part of life.
- 29:36Speaker 1: It's not taboo. It's not something that you should feel
- 29:38Speaker 1: guilty about. So Connor understands he thinks it's normal for
- 29:43Speaker 1: adults to go to the gym five or six days
- 29:45Speaker 1: a week. He actually thinks it's abnormal when you don't
- 29:48Speaker 1: he's like, Oh, you don't go to the gym. Oh
- 29:50Speaker 1: you don't work out. Oh, Like that's how he thinks
- 29:52Speaker 1: because when I started losing weight, he was three and
- 29:55Speaker 1: a half, so that's been life for him or even
- 29:59Speaker 1: you know, with the it gets loser. I unfortunately got
- 30:02Speaker 1: so much heat from you know, people out there sending
- 30:05Speaker 1: me direct messages saying, Wow, you've got a second chance
- 30:08Speaker 1: at life. You beat thyroid cancer, and here you are
- 30:12Speaker 1: spending that time away from your son to go chase dreams.
- 30:14Speaker 1: That's so selfish of you, And I think, Wow, I
- 30:18Speaker 1: feel so bad for that person because I want that
- 30:20Speaker 1: person to understand what it feels like to chase your
- 30:22Speaker 1: dreams and have your child see you chase your dreams
- 30:26Speaker 1: and be okay with it and understand that sometimes sacrifices
- 30:29Speaker 1: have to be made, but you you grow thick skin
- 30:32Speaker 1: to it. But once those people learn that self care
- 30:34Speaker 1: is not self there's still start changing the way they
- 30:36Speaker 1: think for sure. And also, what a huge thing it
- 30:39Speaker 1: is when you start changing somebody else's life and you start,
- 30:42Speaker 1: like so being on the biggest loser and helping people
- 30:45Speaker 1: feel better and helping people make those changes that they
- 30:48Speaker 1: didn't think they could change. How not only are you
- 30:51Speaker 1: helping them, you're helping yourself too. And I think people
- 30:54Speaker 1: don't realize that when you actually reach out to other
- 30:58Speaker 1: people and you're able to help them, you're also helping yourself. Yeah,
- 31:02Speaker 1: and I think it's filling my love bucket back up right,
- 31:06Speaker 1: Like people don't understand that me helping people the way
- 31:09Speaker 1: that I do, or me being on the show fills
- 31:12Speaker 1: my love bucket up so much like it made me
- 31:14Speaker 1: feel fulfilled, and I don't think people can put that
- 31:18Speaker 1: together sometimes. So that's it. That's a really good point.
- 31:21Speaker 1: And uh, I also have autumn calibers. She's on. She's
- 31:25Speaker 1: on with us too, so it's the three of us,
- 31:27Speaker 1: so you guys don't get confused listening. But um, I
- 31:31Speaker 1: have some listener questions that I just wanted to kind
- 31:33Speaker 1: of throw out to both of you guys because people
- 31:36Speaker 1: are constantly asking and I am very simple when it
- 31:40Speaker 1: comes to supplements and pre workouts and all those types
- 31:43Speaker 1: of things. But I just kind of want to put
- 31:44Speaker 1: it out there something. A big question everybody asks is
- 31:48Speaker 1: do you guys think that meal delivery is worth it?
- 31:53Speaker 1: I think so. I mean, I'm so busy that you know,
- 31:57Speaker 1: I don't like the convenience of going through drive through
- 32:00Speaker 1: and all that stuff. Like I love that aspect of
- 32:03Speaker 1: having food delivered to my door. I don't know about
- 32:05Speaker 1: anyone else, but it makes my life easier. Here's the
- 32:07Speaker 1: thing I I personally try to go back grassroots. Like
- 32:11Speaker 1: I grew up. I'm Italian. I grew up with my
- 32:13Speaker 1: dad cooking, my grandma cooking, we owned restaurants. So I
- 32:17Speaker 1: do think it's awesome at times when you are super busy,
- 32:20Speaker 1: but really, what I wish people would understand is, like
- 32:22Speaker 1: you need to get back in the kitchen. It's not
- 32:25Speaker 1: that hard, it doesn't take that long. If you take
- 32:28Speaker 1: an hour or two out of your week and prep yourself,
- 32:31Speaker 1: it's usually way more affordable than the meal delivery service.
- 32:35Speaker 1: You get more you can feed your family. So there
- 32:37Speaker 1: are times where I think it's fantastic, but ultimately, like
- 32:40Speaker 1: I wish people would go back to just taking that
- 32:43Speaker 1: time because even for me, like I have a son
- 32:45Speaker 1: he's about to be eleven, Like that's fun time for
- 32:47Speaker 1: us in the kitchen. I bring him in. My brother
- 32:49Speaker 1: is a chef, so he watches Uncle Bobby cook. Uncle
- 32:52Speaker 1: Bobby's you know, the co host of my cooking show.
- 32:54Speaker 1: So he's like, well, uncle Bobby taught me how to
- 32:56Speaker 1: hold the knife, can I chop the vegetables? And that
- 32:58Speaker 1: for him is a lesson as well. Um, so I
- 33:02Speaker 1: don't think it's bad. I just think that. Yeah, I agree,
- 33:06Speaker 1: I think it's It's also got to be you. Do you.
- 33:10Speaker 1: You see what works for you, But don't use mild
- 33:13Speaker 1: delivery that you can't afford it as your reason why
- 33:15Speaker 1: you can't change your life, because you can. There's so
- 33:19Speaker 1: many different options, and if you have the ability to
- 33:22Speaker 1: be able to do meal delivery, then yeah, pick the
- 33:25Speaker 1: one that best suits you. But if you don't, don't
- 33:27Speaker 1: be mad at the person that can do meal delivery.
- 33:30Speaker 1: Do what works for you. I think the reason so
- 33:33Speaker 1: many of us hesitate to make a change is because
- 33:36Speaker 1: we're so worried about what everybody else is doing, right right?
- 33:39Speaker 1: I agree absolutely, And I think the key thing is,
- 33:43Speaker 1: no matter if you're making it yourself or somebody else's
- 33:45Speaker 1: bringing it to you, is that you're eating well rounded meals,
- 33:49Speaker 1: portion controlled and things that you like. If you're hating
- 33:53Speaker 1: every second of what you're eating and you're telling your
- 33:57Speaker 1: mind that it's not gonna make it very appetize thing.
- 34:00Speaker 1: It's not. UM. Another question that people have asked me
- 34:06Speaker 1: about is do you have any advice for stretch marks
- 34:10Speaker 1: and or loose skin. I never have an answer for that.
- 34:13Speaker 1: I'm like, I'm but mine kind of way back and
- 34:15Speaker 1: then some I just embrace like that's kind of how
- 34:18Speaker 1: I go. But I didn't know if you guys had
- 34:20Speaker 1: any revolutionary answers for this, you know, I really don't.
- 34:25Speaker 1: I get that question a lot, and it's just one
- 34:28Speaker 1: of those things and I have, you know, first off
- 34:30Speaker 1: on five eleven. So I'm a tall girl. Anyways, I've
- 34:32Speaker 1: had stretch marks since middle school, just from hitting that
- 34:35Speaker 1: grows furt and then obviously gaining all the weight and
- 34:39Speaker 1: then being pregnant. So stretch marks have been there since
- 34:42Speaker 1: I can remember. And loose skin I have it, you know,
- 34:45Speaker 1: around my mid section and under my arms, and it's
- 34:48Speaker 1: one of those things that, as cliche as it sounds,
- 34:51Speaker 1: you either embrace it or change it and just be
- 34:53Speaker 1: happy with whatever option you go with. UM. I don't
- 34:56Speaker 1: fault anyone for wanting to get loose skin removals or jury.
- 35:00Speaker 1: If that's what makes your heart happy, that's what makes
- 35:02Speaker 1: you happy. If embracing it makes you happy, embrace it. Um.
- 35:06Speaker 1: I've just learned to grow comfortable with it. Like it's
- 35:08Speaker 1: my body, it's my story, and I'm proud of the
- 35:11Speaker 1: marks that i have on it. You know, I've lost
- 35:13Speaker 1: a hundred sixty pounds, I've burned the baby, I beat cancer.
- 35:17Speaker 1: Like that's my body's story. So that's kind of how
- 35:20Speaker 1: I've always looked at it. Yeah, I say the same thing.
- 35:23Speaker 1: I don't have horrible stretch marks. I have some from
- 35:26Speaker 1: having my son. I have some from my fitness competition
- 35:29Speaker 1: days and how lean you get when you compete and
- 35:31Speaker 1: then just going back to like a normal size. I
- 35:34Speaker 1: say the same thing that like those that those are
- 35:36Speaker 1: your battle wounds. Those are the things that tell your story.
- 35:39Speaker 1: I've got scars from my c section and a scar
- 35:41Speaker 1: from or hernie a repair. Um. While I don't have
- 35:45Speaker 1: loose skin um inn like like some people have if
- 35:48Speaker 1: they've lost a large amount of weight, you know, thirty
- 35:50Speaker 1: nine headed towards forty, Like the skin isn't as tight anymore.
- 35:53Speaker 1: So you wear pants and you know you're in a
- 35:55Speaker 1: workout video and you bend forward and you're like, that
- 35:57Speaker 1: sucks that skin. But it's just at its skin. It's
- 36:00Speaker 1: like we all have it, we all need it, like
- 36:02Speaker 1: it's no big deal. So so same thing like everybody
- 36:06Speaker 1: do you If you feel better getting it removed, then
- 36:09Speaker 1: that's that's what you do. And if you embrace it, great,
- 36:12Speaker 1: But there really is no way, um there's nothing you
- 36:15Speaker 1: can do about it other than get it removed or
- 36:18Speaker 1: embrace it. And and I think also it's confusing to people,
- 36:21Speaker 1: you know. And I have been in a place where,
- 36:24Speaker 1: like I have said, I'm embracing something, but I'm not
- 36:27Speaker 1: necessarily embracing it. Um. So I think it's it's okay
- 36:31Speaker 1: to say to yourself, you know what, I don't necessarily
- 36:35Speaker 1: love this every second of every day, but I've learned
- 36:38Speaker 1: to dress for it. I love my high waisted compression
- 36:41Speaker 1: workout pants. You know, whatever it is. And then you
- 36:44Speaker 1: come around to it when you start talking about it
- 36:48Speaker 1: as it's not this negative thing in your life, if
- 36:51Speaker 1: you start saying, oh, you know, for me, it was
- 36:54Speaker 1: more the loose skin bothered me when I ran because
- 36:56Speaker 1: I could feel it. And so it's like, okay, what
- 36:59Speaker 1: can I do to make it change? I can't. I
- 37:01Speaker 1: don't necessarily want to get surgery to remove it right now,
- 37:04Speaker 1: or whatever it may be. I'm gonna find pants that
- 37:07Speaker 1: make me feel most comfortable. So it's one of those
- 37:09Speaker 1: things where like you can kind of think outside the
- 37:12Speaker 1: box and you will come around to embracing it more. Yeah,
- 37:17Speaker 1: and also keeping in mind that, like you just said,
- 37:20Speaker 1: like you're not gonna be every single day like oh
- 37:24Speaker 1: my god, this is awesome. And that goes for everything,
- 37:27Speaker 1: Like not every day you're gonna be like, oh my god,
- 37:29Speaker 1: I can't wait to work out. Never, Not every day
- 37:30Speaker 1: you're gonna love eating your broccoli, Not every day you're
- 37:33Speaker 1: gonna feel fabulous about you know, your appearance. But it's
- 37:38Speaker 1: about the overall picture and learning to embrace the journey
- 37:42Speaker 1: and be comfortable in the journey, and recognizing that if
- 37:45Speaker 1: you're having a bad day, it's just that it's just
- 37:47Speaker 1: a bad day, but not to let that a bad
- 37:49Speaker 1: days spiral out of control. Oh, I mean we've all
- 37:53Speaker 1: had them. I mean, I let's be honest, I wasn't
- 37:55Speaker 1: having the best day this morning. You can ask everybody
- 37:58Speaker 1: when I walked in. UM. But uh, and another question
- 38:02Speaker 1: I had for you, Um, A lot of the time
- 38:06Speaker 1: people say I don't I don't like working out or
- 38:10Speaker 1: I don't like eating healthy. What advice would you give
- 38:14Speaker 1: to somebody who you said, you know, Erica, that most
- 38:17Speaker 1: of your life, you know, you had not wanted you know,
- 38:20Speaker 1: you had wanted to lose weight, but you weren't weren't
- 38:23Speaker 1: very active. What what was it in you that finally
- 38:26Speaker 1: said enough? Well, honestly, it was that lightbulb moment with
- 38:30Speaker 1: my son, for one. But not everyone can have that
- 38:33Speaker 1: light bulb moment. And I tell everyone I may have
- 38:36Speaker 1: lost a hundred fifty pounds and I may be a
- 38:39Speaker 1: trainer on the biggest user, but I love cookies just
- 38:42Speaker 1: as much as you love cookies. Like, just because just
- 38:45Speaker 1: because you lose the weight or my career is fitness,
- 38:48Speaker 1: does not mean that it gets easier for me. It
- 38:51Speaker 1: is honestly a choice that I have to make every
- 38:54Speaker 1: single day when I wake up and when I decided
- 38:56Speaker 1: to eat a meal. It's something I have to battle
- 38:59Speaker 1: through all the time. It doesn't get easier, you just
- 39:01Speaker 1: get stronger. And I think I learned to find that
- 39:05Speaker 1: balance because so many people just go right to that
- 39:08Speaker 1: place of oh, this is how I'm going to eat forever.
- 39:11Speaker 1: I'm never going to enjoy anything. I've learned to find
- 39:14Speaker 1: balance in the things that I love, getting creative when
- 39:17Speaker 1: it comes to cooking. But then also I just you
- 39:20Speaker 1: have the power. I don't think people realize they have
- 39:23Speaker 1: the power to truly change their body. And that's by
- 39:28Speaker 1: food a fuel. You learn to know that, oh my god,
- 39:31Speaker 1: how look this way? I can do it on my
- 39:34Speaker 1: own terms. And I just think that's one of the
- 39:36Speaker 1: best feelings to know what your body is fully capable of.
- 39:39Speaker 1: And I think that's what I thrive on is you
- 39:42Speaker 1: found that momentum of Okay, I know what makes me
- 39:45Speaker 1: feel good. I look good, my attitude better, I sleep better.
- 39:48Speaker 1: And when you look at all those little things that
- 39:50Speaker 1: just kind of just kind of goes, I just go
- 39:53Speaker 1: with it. And I just think people need to get
- 39:55Speaker 1: to that point to understand, like, WHOA, you have the
- 39:58Speaker 1: control to change your body and how you look and feel.
- 40:00Speaker 1: And I think that's one of the most powerful things ever.
- 40:02Speaker 1: And I and you touched on something else, something that
- 40:05Speaker 1: people often overlook is the importance of sleep. So rest
- 40:12Speaker 1: is the like I tell people, rest and recovery is
- 40:15Speaker 1: do us as important as your nutrition and your fitness
- 40:18Speaker 1: routine by far, because a lot of the time, what
- 40:22Speaker 1: happens is you're lighting you know what it was. What's
- 40:24Speaker 1: the saying. You're lighting the candle at both ends. Yeah,
- 40:27Speaker 1: righting the candle at both ends, and then you're you're
- 40:30Speaker 1: bound to You're bound to set yourself up to fail
- 40:34Speaker 1: that way. So if you need if self care one
- 40:37Speaker 1: day is to go get a massage or take a
- 40:40Speaker 1: bath or whatever it. Maybe listen to your body, try
- 40:44Speaker 1: to find things that can get you to go to sleep.
- 40:46Speaker 1: Like I remember when I first started changing my life.
- 40:51Speaker 1: You know, I thought it's all got to be about exercise,
- 40:54Speaker 1: and I worked out like a crazy person. Like I
- 40:57Speaker 1: would go to like three workout classes in a day.
- 41:00Speaker 1: But then I would eat even harder because I had
- 41:03Speaker 1: no balance with anything. And I thought, well, I'm working
- 41:05Speaker 1: out hard, so it means I can eat more. And
- 41:09Speaker 1: I think that's Oftentimes we we want something so we
- 41:12Speaker 1: do it to such an extreme that we realize that
- 41:15Speaker 1: we don't realize we're creating something that doesn't actually work
- 41:18Speaker 1: for us long term and isn't necessarily healthy. So I mean, yeah,
- 41:24Speaker 1: and and that's that's what we've started to train ourselves
- 41:27Speaker 1: to do. But I think the biggest thing is whether
- 41:29Speaker 1: it's working out, eating, sleeping, take care of yourself, there's
- 41:33Speaker 1: balance and especially with sleep. Um, what people don't realize
- 41:38Speaker 1: is when you don't get enough sleep, right, we all
- 41:40Speaker 1: want to be multitaskers and do more in less time. Um,
- 41:45Speaker 1: when you don't have enough sleep and you don't let
- 41:47Speaker 1: your body regenerate and rejuvenate, you wake up and your
- 41:51Speaker 1: body immediately is looking for an energy source. So your
- 41:55Speaker 1: cravings are going to be harder, and you're going to
- 41:58Speaker 1: probably crave those simple sugars because your body instinctually knows
- 42:03Speaker 1: that that is a readily available energy source, Whereas if
- 42:06Speaker 1: you would just get enough sleep, you're not going to
- 42:08Speaker 1: be looking for that large you know, frappuccino coffee drink
- 42:13Speaker 1: and then three o'clock crash because you've been dragging all
- 42:15Speaker 1: day and constantly loading up and spiking and then crashing
- 42:18Speaker 1: and spiking and crashing. So it's sometimes the most simple
- 42:22Speaker 1: of things that can make the biggest differences. I agree, yeah,
- 42:26Speaker 1: And I've always been very you know, especially on social media,
- 42:29Speaker 1: everyone likes this show, their highlight reel verses behind the scenes,
- 42:33Speaker 1: and that highlight reel just constantly makes you feel like
- 42:37Speaker 1: everyone around you is grinding, and I hate that word.
- 42:40Speaker 1: It was always grind now, shine later, or grind now
- 42:43Speaker 1: and keep the grind up. And I'm like, no, I
- 42:47Speaker 1: hate I hate that phrase because so many people will
- 42:50Speaker 1: burn out and go all or nothing, and at the
- 42:53Speaker 1: end of the day they don't realize that you're going
- 42:55Speaker 1: to spend your help chasing that wealth, whether that wealthy relationship,
- 43:00Speaker 1: money status, and then eventually, because you're keeping that up
- 43:04Speaker 1: for so long, you're going to spend that exact same
- 43:06Speaker 1: wealth getting your health back. And I people need to
- 43:11Speaker 1: find that balance. It's so important that I I fully
- 43:14Speaker 1: take when people ask you ever stopped working out, and
- 43:16Speaker 1: I'm like, yeah, I took three days off last week
- 43:19Speaker 1: because my body, said Ericas slowed down. It can be
- 43:22Speaker 1: so counterproductive when you just go so hard for so
- 43:25Speaker 1: long that you'll just end up taking your body and
- 43:28Speaker 1: it won't be sustainable. And I think there's also something
- 43:30Speaker 1: to be said if your body is telling you to
- 43:32Speaker 1: slow down, if you're if you're somebody that's going crazy
- 43:35Speaker 1: in the gym and you're lifting heavyweights, you're doing whatever
- 43:38Speaker 1: it is that's in your tune, to change it up
- 43:41Speaker 1: and to go on that family bike ride, or people
- 43:45Speaker 1: look at like, if you're gonna work out, it means
- 43:46Speaker 1: it has to be in the gym, and it has
- 43:48Speaker 1: to be this and it has to be this extreme.
- 43:50Speaker 1: Go on a walk with your family, go take your
- 43:53Speaker 1: dogs on a walk, go on a hike, go on
- 43:55Speaker 1: a bike ride, play sucker. I mean, it doesn't have
- 43:58Speaker 1: to be as cut and dry. It's like, listen, I'm
- 44:01Speaker 1: personally I don't love going to a gym every day.
- 44:03Speaker 1: I couldn't. I don't like honestly, and it's honestly your body.
- 44:08Speaker 1: To a lot of women don't understand hormones. And I
- 44:10Speaker 1: can get in a whole other segment with that. But
- 44:13Speaker 1: when you do things like you said, going for a
- 44:16Speaker 1: walk outside in nature and walking with your family, or
- 44:19Speaker 1: just going for a hike or going to yoga a
- 44:22Speaker 1: simple class, that lowers your stress hormone which is called cortisol.
- 44:27Speaker 1: And as a female, we have such high stress levels
- 44:29Speaker 1: anyways that we don't even realize we're stressed anymore. And
- 44:33Speaker 1: when you work out in a gym and you go hard,
- 44:36Speaker 1: that is still stress on your body. Your body is
- 44:38Speaker 1: not smart enough to be like, oh, well, that's fitness
- 44:40Speaker 1: stress versus that's warp stress. All it knows is it's
- 44:44Speaker 1: stress coming from your your drenals. So when you do
- 44:47Speaker 1: those things like you said, it actually really helps your
- 44:50Speaker 1: body and will actually be more productive for you. So
- 44:54Speaker 1: for me, people are always floored when they're saying, oh,
- 44:58Speaker 1: your routine must be so hardcore. You must be doing
- 45:00Speaker 1: craftfit and running miles today, and I'm like, nope, I
- 45:03Speaker 1: go for three to four walks today outside for with
- 45:06Speaker 1: my son for thirty forty minutes. And I left weights
- 45:10Speaker 1: five days a week for twenty or thirty minutes Like
- 45:13Speaker 1: that has helped my body, your cover more than anything,
- 45:16Speaker 1: and actually keep my weight off because I'm lowering my
- 45:18Speaker 1: stress hormones. And you've got to listen to your body
- 45:21Speaker 1: because if you don't listen to it, when it starts
- 45:23Speaker 1: to talk, it's been gonna yell. And you don't listen
- 45:27Speaker 1: to what yells, it's gonna knock you out. And you
- 45:29Speaker 1: want some things that's sustainable for your life, not sustainable
- 45:32Speaker 1: for this and bub you know, whatever it may be. Yeah,
- 45:37Speaker 1: gring hashtag no excuses. Well, thank you so much. Eric.
- 45:44Speaker 1: I know you've got to jump, but you guys should
- 45:46Speaker 1: definitely tune in to The Biggest Loser on January on
- 45:49Speaker 1: the USA Network. We are so excited to get watching
- 45:52Speaker 1: me too. Thank you so much, Bye bye. I mean,
- 46:04Speaker 1: I think the crazy thing, whether it's you and I
- 46:07Speaker 1: talking or Erica talking with us, the biggest thing that
- 46:11Speaker 1: I can say that it's to take away from this
- 46:13Speaker 1: podcast is listen to your body, commit to yourself, and
- 46:18Speaker 1: make a plan and stick to it. Yeah. That's the
- 46:21Speaker 1: thing is so many people right and vision and and
- 46:24Speaker 1: all this stuff, and there's no real plan. Like they
- 46:28Speaker 1: people they go to the first level, but they don't
- 46:31Speaker 1: go four or five levels deep. They say, I'm gonna
- 46:33Speaker 1: lose weight. Okay, well what does that mean? Are you
- 46:36Speaker 1: gonna lose five pounds or you're gonna lose twenty pounds?
- 46:38Speaker 1: You're gonna lose twenty pounds? Okay, Well why do you
- 46:40Speaker 1: want to lose twenty pounds? Like? What is it because
- 46:44Speaker 1: you just want to look good for the vacation, which
- 46:46Speaker 1: is totally fine. Or is it because you know you
- 46:48Speaker 1: can't play with your kids? Or is it because you've
- 46:50Speaker 1: come up against a health issue? Like what is that?
- 46:53Speaker 1: Because saying I want to lose twenty pounds probably isn't
- 46:58Speaker 1: going to be enough on the hard days where you're
- 47:01Speaker 1: not motivated to get you to go do that workout.
- 47:04Speaker 1: But if if I want to lose twenty pounds because
- 47:07Speaker 1: I don't have the energy to play with my kid
- 47:09Speaker 1: and that breaks my heart, Yeah, you're going to get
- 47:11Speaker 1: that work out in. You're gonna get up and go
- 47:13Speaker 1: do it. And if and also for me, I think
- 47:16Speaker 1: something that's often tied to weight gain, um is depression.
- 47:22Speaker 1: And I think so often we are looking to feel
- 47:24Speaker 1: better so that then we can start taking care of ourselves.
- 47:27Speaker 1: But I can tell you I've struggled with depression and
- 47:31Speaker 1: one of the only things to get me out of it,
- 47:34Speaker 1: um and especially like I have extreme anxiety and I
- 47:37Speaker 1: still do is being active and taking care of myself.
- 47:41Speaker 1: And I know that what I am how I show
- 47:45Speaker 1: up to things when I haven't taken care of myself
- 47:47Speaker 1: versus how I show up to things when I have
- 47:49Speaker 1: is a completely different person. Like I'm high strung as
- 47:52Speaker 1: it is, like no matter what, So like, imagine me
- 47:54Speaker 1: when I'm not taking care of myself like I am
- 47:56Speaker 1: on one like watch out on the roads. So I mean,
- 48:00Speaker 1: I think, truthfully, you know as much as this I've
- 48:03Speaker 1: already said the saying it's like you do you you
- 48:06Speaker 1: figure out a plan that works for you, whether it
- 48:09Speaker 1: is the twenty one day fix or if it's all
- 48:12Speaker 1: in by Teddy, or it's going to the gym and
- 48:15Speaker 1: heavy lifting five days a week, whatever it. Maybe you
- 48:19Speaker 1: find something that you believe in and that you will
- 48:23Speaker 1: actually do. Yeah. Look, I'm not saying fitness is always fun.
- 48:27Speaker 1: I know I'm a freak of nature. I really like it.
- 48:30Speaker 1: Like so it's usually fairly easy for me to do
- 48:32Speaker 1: my work out because I enjoy exercising it. It's for
- 48:36Speaker 1: my mental sanity, sanity as much as in my body.
- 48:38Speaker 1: But I know not about everybody is like that. But
- 48:40Speaker 1: you can't say, like, I'm gonna do cross fit if
- 48:43Speaker 1: you hate cross it, Like if you go and you
- 48:47Speaker 1: dread it and you're like, this is the worst thing,
- 48:49Speaker 1: that's not the thing for you. If you love to dance,
- 48:52Speaker 1: find a dance class, pick a dance like dance around
- 48:54Speaker 1: your house, because that's what you're gonna stick to. That's
- 48:56Speaker 1: what you're gonna keep doing. So you don't have to
- 48:59Speaker 1: jump on the band wagon of what everybody else whatever
- 49:01Speaker 1: fat is going on exactly. But you can also know
- 49:04Speaker 1: that it will take a little bit of time. When
- 49:07Speaker 1: I went from not exercising at all to start exercising,
- 49:10Speaker 1: I didn't necessarily love it right away. Now I wake
- 49:14Speaker 1: up and I kind of crave it because I'm like, oh,
- 49:16Speaker 1: you know what, that's gonna make me feel better. But
- 49:18Speaker 1: give yourself a little bit of time. But you can
- 49:20Speaker 1: also play around with it, and it's a great way
- 49:22Speaker 1: to meet new people. If you're starting to feel alienated,
- 49:25Speaker 1: you're starting to feel alone, then try a new spin
- 49:27Speaker 1: class or you know, even if you go or you're
- 49:30Speaker 1: on peloton or whatever, maybe there's other people and they're
- 49:33Speaker 1: going to give you that little high five of encouragement.
- 49:36Speaker 1: Or maybe it's an online class that you're taking, and
- 49:39Speaker 1: you know, do your research and try different things. There's
- 49:43Speaker 1: no harm in saying, hey, i'm gonna go try her
- 49:46Speaker 1: workout video today. You know what, I liked it or
- 49:48Speaker 1: I didn't didn't, but tomorrow I'm gonna try something else,
- 49:51Speaker 1: and then you see what works for you. You Just
- 49:54Speaker 1: because you're saying I'm gonna I want to change my
- 49:56Speaker 1: life doesn't mean that you have to change your life
- 49:57Speaker 1: the exact same way every single day. And yeah, that's
- 50:02Speaker 1: so important. The other thing too, is I want people
- 50:04Speaker 1: to flip their mindset about especially if you're new. Right,
- 50:08Speaker 1: if you're new to exercising, so many people will will
- 50:11Speaker 1: like they'll put on twenty one day fix or they'll
- 50:12Speaker 1: put on a D day session. Well, a D DAP
- 50:14Speaker 1: session is hour long workouts. Like they're intense, they're they're
- 50:17Speaker 1: meant for people who have been working out, but that
- 50:19Speaker 1: doesn't mean I haven't had beginner's try it. Here's the thing.
- 50:22Speaker 1: If you get through fifteen minutes of a D day
- 50:23Speaker 1: OB session, that is fifteen minutes more than you did yesterday.
- 50:27Speaker 1: But so many people will look at it as a fail,
- 50:29Speaker 1: as like I didn't complete it, so I suck. There
- 50:33Speaker 1: I go again, I can't stick with it, instead of saying, hey,
- 50:37Speaker 1: I had through fifteen minutes of that, good for me.
- 50:40Speaker 1: Maybe tomorrow I'll get through sixteen or seventeen like, Because
- 50:44Speaker 1: every little bit is a step in the right direction.
- 50:46Speaker 1: So if you're new, it doesn't have to be thirty minutes,
- 50:49Speaker 1: it doesn't have to be an hour. It has to
- 50:50Speaker 1: be more than you did yesterday. If you're just working
- 50:53Speaker 1: to be better than you were yesterday, you're going to
- 50:55Speaker 1: make progress. It's a lifelong journey. Like you don't get
- 50:59Speaker 1: to a set weight and then stop. Your journey is
- 51:01Speaker 1: not over. It has to always keep going. If it's
- 51:04Speaker 1: really about your health and it's gonna ebb and flow,
- 51:06Speaker 1: and you can say so even if you're trying, you know,
- 51:08Speaker 1: her workout video in your fifteen minutes and and you're like,
- 51:11Speaker 1: I'm dying, I can't do this, then go okay, turn
- 51:13Speaker 1: it off and then maybe finish off with a thirty
- 51:16Speaker 1: minute walk or hit pause. There's no rules to taking
- 51:22Speaker 1: care of yourself. So I think that's the biggest thing
- 51:24Speaker 1: we have to remember is going into it. Whether you're
- 51:27Speaker 1: you know you're looking at Eric on Instagram or Autumn
- 51:31Speaker 1: or myself or whomever is that is inspiring you. We
- 51:35Speaker 1: are ebbing, ebbing and flowing as well. And I am
- 51:39Speaker 1: constantly learning and evolving from other people, and I am
- 51:43Speaker 1: constantly reaching out and being vulnerable with how I'm feeling.
- 51:47Speaker 1: So if you're vulnerable and you're needing that like outreach,
- 51:51Speaker 1: there are people that will talk to you, and there
- 51:53Speaker 1: are people that understand. And I'm telling you, if you
- 51:56Speaker 1: can show a little bit of vulnerability with your goals
- 51:58Speaker 1: versus anger, you're gonna see a lot bigger change. I
- 52:01Speaker 1: love that, but um, I know I could. I could
- 52:04Speaker 1: talk on this for hours, I know, and so not stop.
- 52:08Speaker 1: But thank you so much for coming on. I really
- 52:10Speaker 1: appreciate it. And guys, please email any questions into Teddy
