Speaker 1: Well today one leg up Alex Sports remembers Larry Brooks,
• 0:06
Speaker 1: the colorful, entertaining and such a hockey mind that was
• 0:13
Speaker 1: Larry Brooks passed away at seventy five. I am shocked.
• 0:19
Speaker 1: I am saddened. I remember when my dad had me
• 0:23
Speaker 1: reading Larry Brooks years ago. But I also remember Larry
• 0:28
Speaker 1: Brooks for his confrontations with John Tortorella. Remember this you
• 0:35
Speaker 1: ever fought before? Yeah?
• 0:37
  Speaker 2: You have?
• 0:37
Speaker 1: Yeah, why are you challenging me? No? No, I'm not
• 0:40
Speaker 1: challenging you. Okay, you know Reddin Redden sticks up for his.
• 0:45
Speaker 2: Teammates the other night, and you come up with some
• 0:48
Speaker 2: sarcastic article. It was funny. It was funny. Yes, you
• 0:52
Speaker 2: know what. You're probably beat up in the bus stop
• 0:55
Speaker 2: most of the time.
• 0:56
Speaker 1: And Brooksy was asked by the Vank Hoover's son when
• 1:01
Speaker 1: Tyrella took that job about their tenuous relationship, and actually,
• 1:05
Speaker 1: I'll play you all five minutes of what do you
• 1:07
Speaker 1: have to say about his relationship with John Twrtorella, the
• 1:11
  Speaker 1: former Rangers coach.
• 1:13
Speaker 3: You know, our relationship has has kind of taken on
• 1:16
Speaker 3: a life of its own across the continent. And we
• 1:21
Speaker 3: actually kind of laughed about that too.
• 1:24
Speaker 2: We get along fine. Away from the.
• 1:27
Speaker 3: Rink, we get along great, and ninety five percent of
• 1:31
Speaker 3: the time we get along great at the rink too.
• 1:33
Speaker 2: It's just the five percent of the time that that
• 1:36
Speaker 2: kind of makes news.
• 1:37
Speaker 1: You have a flought before, Yeah, you have? Yeah? Right,
• 1:41
Speaker 1: are you challenging me? No? No, I'm not challenging you. Okay.
• 1:44
Speaker 1: You know, Reddin Redden sticks up for his.
• 1:47
Speaker 2: Teammates the other night and you come come up with
• 1:49
Speaker 2: some sarcastic article. It was funny. It was funny. Yeah,
• 1:54
Speaker 2: you know what. You're probably beat up in the bus
• 1:57
Speaker 2: stop most of the time. So do you think it's
• 1:59
Speaker 2: more over blowing yet?
• 2:02
  Speaker 1: Yeah?
• 2:02
Speaker 3: I think it has. But I think it has. But
• 2:06
Speaker 3: I understand it too because there have been there have
• 2:10
Speaker 3: been times where he and I have allowed it to
• 2:13
Speaker 3: escalate and probably have both gotten what we deserved from that.
• 2:19
Speaker 3: You should ask him argun left even up.
• 2:23
Speaker 2: I guess that's what I'm saying, Brooksy. You get that
• 2:25
Speaker 2: through your head, I guess.
• 2:27
  Speaker 1: So.
• 2:27
Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it's Tom will waste the time.
• 2:29
Speaker 2: And get out of here.
• 2:30
  Speaker 3: They have Okay, So we've tried, I mean we've we've
• 2:34
Speaker 3: we've tried to get along and we've done a.
• 2:37
Speaker 2: Better job, a much better job the last couple.
• 2:39
Speaker 3: Of years than been before that. So, uh yeah, I'm
• 2:44
Speaker 3: fine with him, and I think he's fine with me.
• 2:46
Speaker 2: Do you think this is a newt.
• 2:47
Speaker 1: This isn't towards two point zero here.
• 2:51
Speaker 3: That remains to be seen how he's going to change,
• 2:54
Speaker 3: if he's going to change, whether he needed to change,
• 2:56
Speaker 3: whether he needs to change. It's one thing during the preseason,
• 3:02
  Speaker 3: I know he's making every effort. I'm sure he's gonna
• 3:04
Speaker 3: make every effort as the season progresses to be on
• 3:08
Speaker 3: good terms with as many people as possible. But there's
• 3:11
Speaker 3: a lot of pressure throughout a season, and I don't know,
• 3:16
  Speaker 3: you know, honestly, I don't.
• 3:17
  Speaker 2: I don't know. I can't. I can't foresee the future
• 3:19
Speaker 2: as far as that's concerned.
• 3:21
Speaker 3: While while I recognize the difference in the markets and
• 3:25
Speaker 3: I recognize the difference in the coverage, I'm not sure
• 3:30
Speaker 3: that that translates into, uh, into him being under more
• 3:36
Speaker 3: pressure in his dealings with the media. You know, I
• 3:39
Speaker 3: think it's for him. You know, he's got the Q
• 3:42
Speaker 3: and A in the morning, he's got the Q and A.
• 3:44
Speaker 2: After the game, he's got the Q and a a practice.
• 3:47
Speaker 3: Will there be more people around probably, Will there be
• 3:51
Speaker 3: more questions that that annoy him, maybe, But I think
• 3:57
Speaker 3: he'll adapt, you know, he's he's uh, He's coached in Tampa,
• 4:01
Speaker 3: which was a totally different market than New York, and
• 4:04
Speaker 3: now he's coming to Vancouver, which is a completely different market.
• 4:08
Speaker 3: So I think I think he'll be fine.
• 4:11
  Speaker 2: Idea.
• 4:12
Speaker 1: Since then, by the way, of course, Totrella had that
• 4:14
Speaker 1: dramatic blow up with the Flyers. He was actually fired
• 4:19
Speaker 1: by the Flyers. I mean, it's been a lot since
• 4:22
Speaker 1: the blow ups between Tortorella and and Larry Brooks. But
• 4:26
Speaker 1: it was interesting to hear him say, you know, we
• 4:30
Speaker 1: were actually nice and quarters with each other ninety five
• 4:33
Speaker 1: percent of the time. That's because what we saw in
• 4:35
Speaker 1: the media was absolute chaos and hilarity in a sense,
• 4:41
Speaker 1: and just a foil. I mean, he was Tortorella's foil.
• 4:45
Speaker 1: I looked at board Tortrella as now, do you know
• 4:49
Speaker 1: for his behavior towards the media, this is very interesting.
• 4:54
Speaker 1: He's been an NHL analyst this season for ESPN. I mean,
• 4:58
Speaker 1: this is a guy that would battle not a lead Brooks,
• 5:01
Speaker 1: but a lot of the media here in New York
• 5:03
Speaker 1: here in Philadelphia and Vancouver and Natorela. I see he's
• 5:09
Speaker 1: going to be coaching US A men's hockey team in
• 5:13
Speaker 1: the Olympics in twenty twenty six. Well, anyway, and of
• 5:18
Speaker 1: course he was coaching with the Blue Jacks anyway. The
• 5:21
Speaker 1: Brooksy Towarts saga is one thing I remember. But how
• 5:27
Speaker 1: about his love of JT. Miller. I remember the fondness
• 5:33
Speaker 1: that Brooksy had for JT. Miller way before that first
• 5:37
Speaker 1: trade in twenty eighteen. I remember sitting down with my
• 5:42
Speaker 1: dad reading the newspaper and reading about how he wanted
• 5:46
Speaker 1: Vignot at the time to move twenty four year old JT.
• 5:52
Speaker 1: Miller to the wing. I mean, this guy knew hockey
• 5:57
Speaker 1: to that science. He said he wanted JT. Miller to
• 6:06
Speaker 1: be on the wing, saying the eternal debate. This was
• 6:11
Speaker 1: in twenty seventeen. The eternal debate was over whether JT.
• 6:17
Speaker 1: Miller is a better player on the wing than he
• 6:19
Speaker 1: is at the middle. Is almost beside the point, because
• 6:22
Speaker 1: the pertoning question is whether number ten is more valuable
• 6:25
Speaker 1: to the Rangers on the wing or at center, the
• 6:27
Speaker 1: position he's played for the past two games, and of
• 6:30
Speaker 1: the substantial portions of six others. I mean, this guy
• 6:36
Speaker 1: wanted the best for Miller in his third season. And
• 6:40
Speaker 1: you know, Miller was back with this team in twenty twelve,
• 6:44
Speaker 1: twenty thirteen, so his homecoming now as captain has been
• 6:50
Speaker 1: in the works forever if you think about it. But
• 6:55
Speaker 1: twenty seventeen was Miller's third full season, and it was
• 7:03
Speaker 1: rocky back in that era. But he wrote, Miller's embracement
• 7:09
Speaker 1: of his role as swing forward is a sign of
• 7:12
Speaker 1: his growth three years ago in Edmonton on December fourteenth,
• 7:15
Speaker 1: twenty fourteen, Derek Bisard contracted the Mumps hours before the
• 7:20
Speaker 1: Blue Shirts match that necessaryd moving Miller from the wing
• 7:24
Speaker 1: into the middle. But the end of all this is
• 7:27
Speaker 1: saying the fact that Brooksy had seen that potential for
• 7:34
Speaker 1: Miller as a winger and a potential as a future
• 7:37
Speaker 1: star for the Rangers in this article alone was what
• 7:40
Speaker 1: stuck out to me. I mean, he wanted the best
• 7:43
Speaker 1: for J. T. Miller. Twenty eighteen comes around, Miller gets traded.
• 7:49
Speaker 1: Brooksy calls him a twenty five year old superstar basically,
• 7:54
Speaker 1: and in his essence, someone who want to build a
• 7:57
Speaker 1: team around. Fast forward twenty twenty five, when after all
• 8:03
Speaker 1: of this Miller saga and him coming back to the
• 8:07
Speaker 1: Rangers was a big deal, by the way, a big deal.
• 8:10
Speaker 1: And now his captaincy is looking better by the game,
• 8:13
Speaker 1: doesn't it. They finally got their first one at home
• 8:16
Speaker 1: the other night on Monday night. But I want to
• 8:19
Speaker 1: read you and memorialize this what Larry Brooks said about
• 8:23
Speaker 1: the nine points the Rangers had to fix to come
• 8:28
Speaker 1: into twenty twenty five twenty six. It was awful last year,
• 8:33
Speaker 1: whether it was getting rid of Goodrow and Cocko, and
• 8:40
Speaker 1: of course the troop of disaster twenty four to twenty
• 8:43
Speaker 1: five was a crapshoot, an awful crap shoot. And I
• 8:53
Speaker 1: remember we were at the Ducks Rager gave it. They
• 8:55
Speaker 1: looked pretty good. I think they put up seven goals
• 8:57
Speaker 1: in October of twenty four. What happened after that? We
• 9:02
Speaker 1: talk about the Jets blow up, about those two players
• 9:05
Speaker 1: the Rangers. Chris Jury has effectively blown up this team
• 9:10
Speaker 1: to an unrecognizable way. But back in May, Brooksy wrote,
• 9:18
Speaker 1: Larry Brooks wrote the nine point plan to toughen up
• 9:21
Speaker 1: the Rangers, and it begins with making Miller captain. And
• 9:26
Speaker 1: I'd say the Rangers listen to him on that one.
• 9:28
Speaker 1: By the way, I just subscribe to ny Post Sports
• 9:32
Speaker 1: Plus and have access to the Rangers and the Saint
• 9:36
Speaker 1: John's basketball team, the Yankees, the Mets, even some Jets
• 9:41
Speaker 1: because you never know they could go on a run
• 9:43
Speaker 1: here of course, the Giants and the Rangers as well
• 9:47
Speaker 1: as the Knicks. So Post Sports Plus worth the subscription.
• 9:51
Speaker 1: I just did it, and let's see how much fun
• 9:54
Speaker 1: we have with that. But here was Brooksy's nine point plan.
• 9:57
Speaker 1: I want to cement this on my podcast and make
• 10:00
Speaker 1: it last for infinity through my show because you might
• 10:04
  Speaker 1: not have heard a Brooksy's plan, or if you're a
• 10:07
Speaker 1: devout Larry Brooks reader, you already know this anyway. Number One,
• 10:12
Speaker 1: the hierarchy will likely be reluctant to name a captain
• 10:16
Speaker 1: after the past two experiences with Truba and McDonough and
• 10:20
Speaker 1: with a bad taste in everyone's mouth. The fact is
• 10:23
Speaker 1: the nineteen seventy two Bruins are the last team to
• 10:25
Speaker 1: win the Stanley Cup without a captain, and they had
• 10:28
Speaker 1: Bobby Orr on the ice. Okay, I neither they need
• 10:31
Speaker 1: him name him a captain. The Rangers acquired JT. Miller
• 10:37
Speaker 1: from Vancouver to become the personification of a new era
• 10:40
Speaker 1: of black and blue shirt hockey, to become the epitome
• 10:43
Speaker 1: of a straight line, jagged edge, pugnacious mentality. The Ranger
• 10:48
Speaker 1: should appoint Miller captain by the start of training camp
• 10:52
Speaker 1: and let him lead right from day one. Sullivan should
• 10:54
Speaker 1: give the aids to Trocheck and Adam Fox, and no
• 10:58
Speaker 1: offense to Mika ar Temmi Panerin and Chris Krider. By way,
• 11:02
Speaker 1: do you know panera and I read in the post
• 11:04
Speaker 1: went bald to try and fix the ways of the Ragers.
• 11:08
Speaker 1: He literally shaved his head. Interesting, right anyway? Number two
• 11:14
Speaker 1: Number two have a heart to heart with the thirty
• 11:18
Speaker 1: two year old Swede Mika's avantajet, who has a full
• 11:21
Speaker 1: no move clause attached to the final five seasons of
• 11:24
Speaker 1: his contract, which carries an annual eight and a half
• 11:27
Speaker 1: million dollar cap hit. If Number ninety three's public site
• 11:31
Speaker 1: statements are to believe be believed he has no interest
• 11:34
Speaker 1: whatsoever in waving the clause, then the hierarchy cannot threaten
• 11:37
Speaker 1: him with an absence of playing time. They cannot threaten
• 11:40
Speaker 1: to send his advantajet hobe. That type of behavior would
• 11:43
Speaker 1: scuttle the season. It'll be twenty twenty four to twenty
• 11:46
Speaker 1: five the reprize, and I've seen Mika's name pop up
• 11:50
Speaker 1: a little bit more scoring some goals here. What I
• 11:53
Speaker 1: want to hear from Mika is I desperately want to
• 11:56
Speaker 1: be here to be part of the solution and win
• 11:58
Speaker 1: the cup year. Maybe that is what he would s
• 12:00
Speaker 1: behind closed doors. Number three training regimen. The Rangers needs
• 12:06
Speaker 1: a manager to adjust his training regimen to be able
• 12:09
Speaker 1: to compete with competition that gets younger, stronger, and faster
• 12:12
Speaker 1: every year. He cannot have the same program at age
• 12:15
Speaker 1: thirty two that he did at age thirty twenty five.
• 12:18
Speaker 1: By the way, the Rangers are eight one and one
• 12:20
Speaker 1: on the road as of last night's went against the Lightning.
• 12:24
Speaker 1: The higher key has every right to ask the manager
• 12:26
Speaker 1: to come to the New York area to work out
• 12:27
Speaker 1: in early August, not late that month or early September.
• 12:34
Speaker 1: Now Number four, he wrote. The higherarchy also has every
• 12:37
Speaker 1: right to ask Alexis Lafrenier to come to the New
• 12:40
Speaker 1: York area in early August as well. Where was he
• 12:44
Speaker 1: last year after he gets this big seven year contract?
• 12:47
Speaker 1: Where did he go? Where did laughy go? Remember that
• 12:51
Speaker 1: we were so excited you got the seven year deal.
• 12:55
Speaker 1: Nothing after those first couple of games, it went flat.
• 12:59
Speaker 1: I agree with Brooksy here, Laffey needs to come through
• 13:04
Speaker 1: more and you're a one leg Alex Sports a rate.
• 13:06
Speaker 1: A Giants update. Isaiah Hodgens is back on the Giants.
• 13:09
Speaker 1: That's a big deal, he wrote, twenty three year old.
• 13:13
Speaker 1: Like Lafagniere, may not be fair to hold him accountable
• 13:17
Speaker 1: for the fiasco, but this is a five year pro
• 13:20
Speaker 1: who was adult enough to sign a seven year, two
• 13:23
Speaker 1: hundred and fifty two point one five million dollar extension
• 13:26
Speaker 1: before falling off the face of the earth. That I
• 13:29
Speaker 1: love the way he wrote Number five, I would investigate
• 13:32
Speaker 1: moving KeAndre Miller, but only for more of for a
• 13:36
Speaker 1: more defense oriented and more physically oriented defenceman in the
• 13:40
Speaker 1: same age category, impending restriction free agent who will turn
• 13:45
Speaker 1: twenty six in January. He thought getting Romano from the
• 13:51
Speaker 1: Islanders would be intriguing in the Rangers. Of course, they
• 13:56
Speaker 1: kind of listened to him on the defensive front, didn't they.
• 13:58
Speaker 1: They locked up an eight year defenseman there and then
• 14:02
Speaker 1: let KeAndre go Drury and the hierarchy have the backstop
• 14:05
Speaker 1: and the Igorsh's circuit now they need to build out
• 14:08
Speaker 1: in front of him. That's number six, with the emphasis
• 14:11
Speaker 1: on menace, the idea of menace. They kind of did
• 14:14
Speaker 1: listen to Brooksy on that too, as they signed Vladislav
• 14:18
Speaker 1: Gavrikov to a seven year, forty nine million dollar contract.
• 14:23
Speaker 1: That's who they signed after getting rid of KeAndre or
• 14:26
Speaker 1: right before. So in a way they did bolster the defense.
• 14:32
Speaker 1: They didn't listen to him, they didn't resign KeAndre, but
• 14:35
Speaker 1: they found a menace there now the Rangers that this
• 14:37
Speaker 1: is number seven. The Rangers have a fair amount of
• 14:40
Speaker 1: young forward such as Brennan Aufman and Brett Barrard. Where
• 14:44
Speaker 1: was Berrard anyway? I mean, the guy should have been
• 14:46
Speaker 1: playing more. I know a lot of my friends have
• 14:49
Speaker 1: been calling for him to play more. Will Kooley didn't
• 14:53
Speaker 1: get enough time under Lovolette. Thank god they didn't let
• 14:55
Speaker 1: Kolie go. By the way, the coach never recognized the
• 14:58
Speaker 1: value of Matt Rempy twenty three. Next month, Gabe Perrot
• 15:02
Speaker 1: when the season starts, will challenge for a meaningful spot
• 15:05
Speaker 1: and then Branden Schneider, recovering from surgery, needs top four
• 15:09
Speaker 1: minutes on the back end, Matt Robertson marriage a legitimate shot.
• 15:13
Speaker 1: This is what I love about He knew this Ranger
• 15:16
Speaker 1: organization from top to bottom, from top to bottom. And
• 15:21
Speaker 1: I'll tell you what else he leaves the lasting impact
• 15:24
Speaker 1: on in a little bit, because it has to do
• 15:26
Speaker 1: one of the legends in New York number eight. The
• 15:31
Speaker 1: franchise attained its greatest sustained success in the NHL's modern
• 15:34
Speaker 1: era over the first dozen or so years that begin
• 15:37
Speaker 1: in two thousand and five. That set of teams that
• 15:40
Speaker 1: won eight playoff rounds between twenty twelve and twenty five
• 15:43
Speaker 1: at twenty fifteen was built from within and flounded. Blue
• 15:46
Speaker 1: bloods drafted from drafted sign an amateur free agency were
• 15:52
Speaker 1: acquired before they got to the league. The four foundation
• 15:56
Speaker 1: of that era was personified by draft picks Henrik Lungfitz,
• 15:59
Speaker 1: Ryan Callen and Brian Dion Dubinski, Derek Ccepta, Mark Stall McDonough, Girardi,
• 16:04
Speaker 1: Metzu Corrello. How can we forget Matt's Carl haglan Ardemannisimoff
• 16:09
Speaker 1: and Michael does up Man Michael does Otto another name
• 16:11
Speaker 1: from the best plasts from the past. Drury needs to
• 16:18
Speaker 1: emulate the formula and acted by then GM Glenn Sather
• 16:24
Speaker 1: let me repeat what he wrote. The formula acted by
• 16:27
Speaker 1: then GM Glenn Saylor needs to be emulated by Drury.
• 16:32
Speaker 1: That's what he wrote in his column in May. I agree,
• 16:39
Speaker 1: but we shouldn't have gotten rid of all the guys
• 16:41
Speaker 1: we did. Crider's having an incredible year in Anaheim. Coppo Kako.
• 16:46
Speaker 1: We miss him, don't we? I mean all these guys
• 16:52
Speaker 1: we're traded away, and it's like, what do we blow
• 16:54
Speaker 1: up the program for? What is Drury's idea here? It's
• 17:00
Speaker 1: amazing that they're ein't one to one on the road,
• 17:02
Speaker 1: but they haven't won. Oh, they've only won one game
• 17:04
Speaker 1: at home so far, and we're oh, by the way
• 17:08
Speaker 1: in November twenty twenty five. Number nine. Dry should also
• 17:13
Speaker 1: emulate his first months on the job over the summer
• 17:16
Speaker 1: of twenty twenty one, when he addressed deficiency in swagger
• 17:20
Speaker 1: and spine by quickly adding Barkley, Gudro, Dryden Hunt, Sammy Blaze,
• 17:24
Speaker 1: and Ryan Reeves. Remember the Reeves era. The Rangers need
• 17:27
Speaker 1: to need to be able to rely on their younger players,
• 17:30
Speaker 1: so perhaps it is serendipitous that this team doesn't have
• 17:33
Speaker 1: the cap space to get much older, the hierarchy recognized
• 17:37
Speaker 1: needs to recognize that the team is not quite as
• 17:40
Speaker 1: fast and skilled as has been advertised. The team needs
• 17:43
Speaker 1: to become much more pregnacious and become the team brand.
• 17:47
Speaker 1: By the way, for the Rangers to lose the first
• 17:50
Speaker 1: five games at home, which was a record I think
• 17:54
Speaker 1: that actually lost sex but a record that was set
• 17:59
Speaker 1: in forty two, forty three, forty four in the forties
• 18:06
Speaker 1: on Rangers one hundreds, it was a little disappointing, but
• 18:11
Speaker 1: there might make up for it on the road here
• 18:13
Speaker 1: if they keep collecting those road winds like they did
• 18:15
Speaker 1: last night. Appointing JT. Miller the twenty ninth captain in
• 18:21
Speaker 1: Rangers history would represent a pretty good start. So there
• 18:24
Speaker 1: you go. Those are the nine key points that Larry
• 18:27
Speaker 1: Brooks talked about in May of twenty twenty five. But
• 18:31
Speaker 1: the Miller fondness didn't just start in this year, folks.
• 18:38
Speaker 1: He has hired his eye on JT. Miller from the
• 18:41
Speaker 1: get go, and you could see why because as captain,
• 18:47
  Speaker 1: I think he's gonna come through. I think he's gonna
• 18:51
Speaker 1: do it. I had thought Bratzinski for a while, but
• 18:55
Speaker 1: Miller is the right choice. I forget that he was
• 18:58
Speaker 1: in the system from twenty twelve thirteen. He's a lifelong
• 19:05
Speaker 1: rangeram though he's had his stops, New York was his
• 19:08
Speaker 1: first home and most likely his final home in the
• 19:12
Speaker 1: hockey career. And we can only hope, we can only
• 19:16
Speaker 1: hope that he can contribute and bring something that hasn't
• 19:19
Speaker 1: been won since nineteen ninety four, which is the Stanley Cup.
• 19:25
Speaker 1: So Brooksy, thank you for your entertainment, your analysis, your color,
• 19:32
Speaker 1: as he wrote told John Dorella, funniness, your sarcasm, I
• 19:37
Speaker 1: mean all of it, all of it. And it's hitting
• 19:41
Speaker 1: me hard today because the way Brooksy loved hockey is
• 19:52
Speaker 1: the wha I can envision Rog Jobert my dad and
• 19:55
Speaker 1: him shooting the breeze on the current hockey scene up
• 19:59
Speaker 1: into right now. And yeah, my dad's love a hockey
• 20:05
Speaker 1: makes this emotional for me because that passion that my
• 20:12
Speaker 1: dad had for hockey, I could read it in the
• 20:15
Speaker 1: way Brooksy would write it. They had the similar passions
• 20:20
Speaker 1: to hockey. And and he will be missed dearly. And
• 20:32
Speaker 1: I know Molly Walker is going to do a hell
• 20:35
Speaker 1: of a job carrying the torch now in the New
• 20:37
Speaker 1: York Post Sports Department as the Rangers beat writer. But man,
• 20:44
Speaker 1: oh man, are we going to miss those that grittiness,
• 20:48
Speaker 1: that cutsiness, that willing to challenge and willing to be
• 20:55
Speaker 1: pissed off at the Rangers in his writing, I think
• 20:59
Speaker 1: all of us. Look. I told my friend Lindsey, be
• 21:02
Speaker 1: mad at the Giants for the way they fumbled another game,
• 21:06
Speaker 1: be mad at the coaching staff. If all of us
• 21:08
Speaker 1: were more mad about where we're at in our sports,
• 21:12
Speaker 1: maybe they would listen. Maybe they would listen. And I
• 21:19
Speaker 1: think Brooksy is an example of that. He was so
• 21:24
Speaker 1: passionate about the Rangers. Call him in and call him
• 21:27
Speaker 1: out that you could tell he was a fan beyond
• 21:31
Speaker 1: a reporter. He loved the Rangers to the point of
• 21:34
Speaker 1: criticizing them every chance he needed to. He didn't wait,
• 21:40
Speaker 1: wishy washed anything. He was very blunt. He was a
• 21:43
Speaker 1: very blunt writer. And we need that blunt that's back
• 21:47
Speaker 1: in New York. So lindsay, go ahead, challenge our team's
• 21:51
Speaker 1: management systems, Go ahead and question the situations of our teams.
• 22:00
Speaker 1: Why did jury blow up the whole Rangers organization right
• 22:03
Speaker 1: before the hundred of year. Crider was part of that
• 22:05
Speaker 1: one hundred anniversary. He would have been an incredible part
• 22:09
Speaker 1: to celebrate one hundred years. He is Rangers hockey. I
• 22:12
Speaker 1: know he's in the duct uniform now, but Crider's Rangers hockey.
• 22:18
Speaker 1: So we have every right to ask our team's management
• 22:25
Speaker 1: to make changes because at the end of the day,
• 22:30
Speaker 1: we're not winning titles. And you know what my favorite
• 22:33
Speaker 1: saying is, now, I'm getting too old for this shit.
• 22:38
Speaker 1: I need our teams to win now. And by the
• 22:45
Speaker 1: Rangers listening to Larry Brooks, by the team listening to
• 22:50
Speaker 1: Larry Brooks to make him make Miller the twenty ninth captain,
• 22:55
Speaker 1: it's a good start. As he wrote, it's a good start.
• 23:04
Speaker 1: And the legend I mentioned Henrik Lungfists go back to
• 23:08
Speaker 1: an article from September twenty twenty when Larry Brooks deemed
• 23:15
Speaker 1: Lungfist the king. He wrote an article Henry Lungfist was
• 23:19
Speaker 1: truly the king in every way for the Rangers. That
• 23:23
Speaker 1: was September thirtieth, twenty twenty, and the nickname the King
• 23:28
Speaker 1: has stuck for King Henrik since that time, or maybe
• 23:31
Speaker 1: even a little before it. But that is his brainchild.
• 23:36
Speaker 1: When we call King Henrik Lungvist the king, that's because
• 23:39
Speaker 1: of Larry Brooks. That is a lasting impact, as well
• 23:44
Speaker 1: as advising the Rangers to make Miller a captain, as
• 23:48
Speaker 1: well as the Tortorella saga, as well as every article
• 23:52
Speaker 1: he wrote. I would say here on one Leg Up
• 23:55
Speaker 1: with Alex Garrett, Larry Brooks had one leg up on
• 23:58
Speaker 1: hockey and on New York hockey, and we have it
• 24:04
Speaker 1: from here. Larry. We will miss you and we thank
• 24:07
Speaker 1: you for your service to the hockey community on the whole.
• 24:11
Speaker 1: By the way, he is a Hockey Hall of Famer.
• 24:13
Speaker 1: He is in the NHL Hall of Fame as well,
• 24:17
Speaker 1: so he will be missed. And every time I roll
• 24:22
Speaker 1: into that garden, now I'm gonna put on my rolling
• 24:26
Speaker 1: reporter hat and just dedicate every roll into that garden
• 24:31
Speaker 1: to Larry Brooks. And I know Molly Walker of the
• 24:33
Speaker 1: New York Post is going to carry that torch so well,
• 24:37
Speaker 1: so well on the Rangers beat. And it's just it's
• 24:42
Speaker 1: a moment where we all come together and we mourn
• 24:45
Speaker 1: a legend here in New York City today as one
• 24:49
Speaker 1: Leg Up, Alex and everybody else remembers Larry Brooks at
• 24:54
Speaker 1: the age of seventy five done
