- 1:11Speaker 2: need more attention. Now we do stream new episodes every
- 1:15Speaker 2: Monday and Wednesday at noon Central. Now, before we get
- 1:20Speaker 2: into today's cases, I also need to do a big
- 1:24Speaker 2: shout out to my lovely and wonderful husband double h.
- 1:29Speaker 2: It is his birthday and I'm in Paris, so I
- 1:33Speaker 2: do love him and I hope he's having a wonderful birthday.
- 1:37Speaker 2: And I'm sure he is watching this. I don't know
- 1:40Speaker 2: if it'll be before I get home, but anyway, just
- 1:42Speaker 2: needed to give him that quick shout out. Now, guys,
- 1:46Speaker 2: today's case is just it's awful. Okay, We're going to
- 1:52Speaker 2: be talking about the three girls known as the fort
- 1:55Speaker 2: Worth Trio. On December twenty third, nineteen seventy four, three
- 2:03Speaker 2: fort Worth girls Mary Rachel Trelika, who was seventeen, Lisa
- 2:10Speaker 2: Renee Wilson, aged fourteen, and Julianne Moseley h nine set
- 2:15Speaker 2: out to do some Christmas shopping at the Seminary South
- 2:18Speaker 2: Shopping Center.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Guys.
- 2:21Speaker 2: They never return home, so that evening their families found
- 2:25Speaker 2: Rachel's nineteen seventy two Osmobile ninety eight parked in the
- 2:29Speaker 2: Seer's upper level parking lot. Inside the car were the
- 2:34Speaker 2: gifts they had purchased. That afternoon, there was no sign
- 2:38Speaker 2: of the girls. Okay. Now, despite decades of searching, interviewing witnesses,
- 2:44Speaker 2: and following thousands of leads, the three girls have never
- 2:49Speaker 2: been found, and their disappearance remains one of the Texas
- 2:53Speaker 2: I mean, is one of my state's most haunting unsolved mysteries.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Now Rachel was the oldest. She was a married high
- 3:02Speaker 2: school student. She went to Southwest High School at seventeen
- 3:07Speaker 2: years old. She stood five foot six and weighed.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Around one hundred and eight pounds. She a little thing now.
- 3:14Speaker 2: She had long brown hair, green eyes, a chipped front tooth,
- 3:19Speaker 2: and a small scar on her chin. She wore her
- 3:22Speaker 2: wedding ring that day, having been married to her husband
- 3:25Speaker 2: Tommy for only six months. Rachel was the one driving
- 3:29Speaker 2: the Oldsma bile that the girls took to the mall.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Now Renee was fourteen. She was a ninth grader at
- 3:38Speaker 2: the time of her disappearance. She stood about five foot
- 3:41Speaker 2: two and weighed one hundred and ten pounds. She had
- 3:43Speaker 2: light wavy brown hair, brown eyes, and a scar on
- 3:47Speaker 2: her inner thigh. She was last seen wearing bluish purple
- 3:51Speaker 2: hip pucker pants She'll remember those, a white pullover sweatshirt
- 3:57Speaker 2: with sweet honesty and green letters, red and white Oxford shoes,
- 4:02Speaker 2: and a promised ring from her new boyfriend given to
- 4:05Speaker 2: her that very morning. Now, she had made plans to
- 4:10Speaker 2: be back by four pm so that she can attend
- 4:13Speaker 2: a Christmas party with her boyfriend. Sadly us, she never
- 4:18Speaker 2: made it. Now, Julianne Moseley was just nine years old.
- 4:23Speaker 2: She was the youngest. She stood four foot three and
- 4:26Speaker 2: weighed eighty five pounds. She had sandy blonde hair in
- 4:30Speaker 2: blue eyes. Now she had a small scar under her
- 4:33Speaker 2: left eye, on her forehead, and on the back of
- 4:37Speaker 2: her calf. She was last seen in a red shirt,
- 4:40Speaker 2: dark jeans, and red tiny shoes. Now Julie had asked
- 4:45Speaker 2: to go with the other girls at the last minute
- 4:48Speaker 2: because she didn't want to spend the day by herself
- 4:51Speaker 2: and her mother reluctantly allowed her to join, but insisted
- 4:55Speaker 2: that she be home by six. Now, the girl spent
- 4:59Speaker 2: the morning, stopping first at a surplus store in Fort
- 5:02Speaker 2: Worth to pick up a layaway items that Renee had. Now,
- 5:07Speaker 2: then they headed on to the mall. Witnesses later recalled
- 5:11Speaker 2: seeing them inside the shopping center. Now, when they didn't
- 5:15Speaker 2: return home, their families grew concerned and they went to
- 5:19Speaker 2: search for them. Now it was around six PM when
- 5:22Speaker 2: they located Rachel's car in the Seers parking lot. Like
- 5:26Speaker 2: I said, they found the gifts still inside. Now the
- 5:30Speaker 2: family stayed at the mall all not long, hoping that.
- 5:34Speaker 1: The girls would come back. Now.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Interesting enough, the next day, Rachel's husband received a letter
- 5:42Speaker 2: that appeared to be from Rachel. It claimed the girls
- 5:46Speaker 2: they had gone to Houston and would return in a week. Yeah,
- 5:51Speaker 2: but the car was left behind. Okay, I won't go
- 5:54Speaker 2: get started on that yet. The letter, however, raised suspicion.
- 5:58Speaker 2: It was addressed form to Thomas A. Trelika, not just
- 6:04Speaker 2: Tommy okay.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Now, Rachel was also.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Misspelled it first and then corrected. Now, the envelope was
- 6:14Speaker 2: in pencil, while the letter was written in ink, and
- 6:17Speaker 2: the postmark only shared a blurred ZIP code. Police said
- 6:22Speaker 2: it was either possibly Elias Phille or Weatherfield Weatherford. Now,
- 6:28Speaker 2: handwriting experts, including the FBI, they were unable to say
- 6:32Speaker 2: with certainty whether or not Rachel wrote it. I'm going
- 6:36Speaker 2: to go out on a limb and say she didn't
- 6:38Speaker 2: write it, because she.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Knows how to spell her own name right.
- 6:43Speaker 2: And how are they going to go to Houston if
- 6:45Speaker 2: they left the car there? And I don't know now.
- 6:50Speaker 2: From the beginning, the families rejected the idea that the
- 6:53Speaker 2: girls had run away. Julie's mother insisted that her daughter
- 6:57Speaker 2: and the others were not runaways, and Renee's mother pointed
- 7:01Speaker 2: out her daughter had been looking forward to a Christmas party,
- 7:05Speaker 2: and guys, no nine year old would run off just
- 7:08Speaker 2: two days before Christmas. Okay, it just hit me that
- 7:12Speaker 2: December twenty third is my mother's birthday. Mama bears now.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Rachel's mother firmly believed the girls had been abducted, so
- 7:24Speaker 2: police initially treated the case as a runaway situation before
- 7:29Speaker 2: later shifting their perspectives. And Guys, this totally infuriates me,
- 7:34Speaker 2: but I also try to remember this was nineteen seventy four.
- 7:38Speaker 2: Things were done differently, Okay. I truly hoped that that
- 7:42Speaker 2: this had happened today, that it would be treated as
- 7:46Speaker 2: a priority okay, and these would be endangered kids. Now,
- 7:52Speaker 2: families distributed missing person flyers across Texas and beyond the
- 7:57Speaker 2: state lines. Tips began trickling in Now. One acquaintance claimed
- 8:02Speaker 2: he saw Rachel with the other girls at the record
- 8:05Speaker 2: department of a store inside the mall and that maybe
- 8:09Speaker 2: they were accompanied by another person okay. Other leads included
- 8:14Speaker 2: clothing found in Justin, Texas, which turned out did not
- 8:18Speaker 2: belong to the girls, and multiple unverified sightings of them
- 8:23Speaker 2: being forced into vehicles.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Now.
- 8:27Speaker 2: Frustrated with the investigation, the families hired private investigator John
- 8:32Speaker 2: Swain in nineteen seventy five. Now he discovered a man
- 8:36Speaker 2: in the area making obscene phone calls to young women
- 8:40Speaker 2: who had filled out job applications, but nothing tied him
- 8:44Speaker 2: to the girl's disappearance. Now Swain let us search with
- 8:48Speaker 2: one hundred volunteers in Port Lavaca after a tip that
- 8:52Speaker 2: the girl's bodies had been placed under bridges, but nothing
- 8:57Speaker 2: here was found. Now later, skeletal remains were discovered in
- 9:02Speaker 2: Brazoria County. They proved not to be the girls. Now. Tragically,
- 9:09Speaker 2: Swain died by suicide in nineteen seventy nine and his
- 9:12Speaker 2: case files were destroyed. Over the years, other remains in
- 9:17Speaker 2: tip service, but each proved to be unrelated. I want
- 9:22Speaker 2: to know why in the hell anyone would destroy his
- 9:24Speaker 2: case files. The family was paying him, so didn't they own.
- 9:30Speaker 1: The rights to that information. That's just me.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Now, witness accounts, as you can imagine, and added more
- 9:38Speaker 2: layers of mystery.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Okay.
- 9:40Speaker 2: A store clerk recalled a woman who said she saw
- 9:43Speaker 2: three girls being forced into a yellow pickup truck near
- 9:47Speaker 2: the Buddy's Grocery store near the mall, but the police
- 9:51Speaker 2: were never able to locate that woman. Now, this case
- 9:55Speaker 2: was reopened in two thousand and one by homicide detective
- 9:58Speaker 2: Tom Botcher, who stated he believed the girls left the
- 10:02Speaker 2: mall with someone they trusted, possibly more than one person.
- 10:08Speaker 2: I think I agree, because it would be hard to
- 10:11Speaker 2: get three people shoved into a vehicle, okay. Now, In
- 10:17Speaker 2: twenty eighteen, two cars were raised from ben Brook Lake
- 10:21Speaker 2: in hopes of uncovering evidence. But guys, this effort yielded nothing.
- 10:28Speaker 1: Okay.
- 10:29Speaker 2: Over the decades, family and investigators have walked creek beds,
- 10:33Speaker 2: searched back roads, and examined countless tips, but still no
- 10:39Speaker 2: traces of this trio has ever been found. Guys, we're
- 10:46Speaker 2: coming up on fifty one years later. The disappearance of Rachel,
- 10:51Speaker 2: Renee and Julie is unsolved. Okay. The letter, the unverified
- 10:57Speaker 2: witness accounts, and the.
- 10:59Speaker 1: Trail of leads leave haunting questions. Okay.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Their families continue to wait for answers, and the case
- 11:09Speaker 2: stands as one of Texas' most enduring and heartbreaking mysteries. Now,
- 11:15Speaker 2: if you will look at this photo, you will see
- 11:17Speaker 2: that there is age progression. Photos that have been done
- 11:25Speaker 2: and that are listed here, so please take a look
- 11:30Speaker 2: at these. Also, if you have any information, I mean
- 11:34Speaker 2: if somebody a dying relative mentions it, or you find
- 11:40Speaker 2: newspaper articles, whatever, anything suspicious about the fort Worth Trio.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Please it is never ever too late to call the
- 11:50Speaker 2: police department. So please call fort Worth Police at eight one, seven, three, three,
- 11:56Speaker 2: five four to two two two. These lovely ladies deserve okay,
