- 0:00So you had a better brain. Why aren't you jumping up and down.
- 0:04I've never admitted this before. It aren't because I'm smart enough to acknowledge a
- 0:08compliment. That's a good point. So the brain ain't that good? Right?
- 0:12No? Good? Hello, and welcome to May the Review be with
- 0:27You with Nick and Joe. I'm Joe, I'm Nick, and today we
- 0:32are talking about Disney Plus series, a Star Wars series. Ahsoka. A
- 0:38lot to talk about here, and I think it's fitting that I think we're
- 0:44a little over a year of casting on made the Review be with you,
- 0:49right, And we started this with Obi one the series, and yeah,
- 0:56we did. That was our That was our first series that we covered.
- 0:58Right here we are the second time. Despite the fact that our name is
- 1:03Star Wars Inspired. This is only the second Star Wars property we've covered,
- 1:07I know. And how funny is that we got like we just got a
- 1:08little tired of the Star Wars stuff. So we we were just and Marvel
- 1:12hit it so hard the last year at the beginning that we really have for
- 1:17better or worse, for better or worse, but we had this and we
- 1:21were into it, so we were like, we're just gonna do Marvel and
- 1:26yeah, I'm so glad that we're coming back to Star Wars with Ahsoka because
- 1:32it's like we'll talk about it. I loved it for the most part.
- 1:37I did as well, and I think you hit the nail of the head
- 1:40there. We were both kind of exhausted, I think with Star Wars stuff.
- 1:45Not that not that, like we were getting inundated in the same way
- 1:48that like Marvel maybe has with its properties, right, but like it just
- 1:53kind of felt like nothing new was happening. And I know that people love
- 2:00and Or and I've I've heard nothing but phenomenal things about that. I did
- 2:06not jump into that series because I was still exhausted. I'm absolutely going to
- 2:10now, yeah, because of how much I love Tohska. So yeah,
- 2:15I have renewed faith in Star Wars. Same same here. Renewed faith is
- 2:21a good is a good phrase? Mm hmmm. I'm going to let you
- 2:24guide us on this episode because you're your Star Wars knowledge is deeper and your
- 2:29brain is better. For the record, I consider us both casuals, but
- 2:35I I will take the compliment where I can get it. So you had
- 2:39a better brain, why aren't you jumping up and down. I've never admitted
- 2:44this before. It aren't because smart enough to acknowledge a compliment. That's a
- 2:47good point. So the brain ain't that good? No good, Okay.
- 2:53So I want to start with initial thoughts on this show. So I went
- 2:58into this show kind of lootwarm on the subject. You know, I like
- 3:04Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka from what we saw in Mandalorian, and I thought she'd
- 3:09probably be great. But I also knew that this show was going to And
- 3:14if there are Star Wars fans who hear this and I trigger them, I
- 3:19am so sorry. I mean nothing personal by this. I am not a
- 3:23big fan of Star Wars Rebels. I think that Star Wars Rebels has some
- 3:27really cool ideas in it, some really cool plots, but overall, I
- 3:31think a lot of the character choices and the dialogue drives me insane. So
- 3:37when I found out this show is gonna be largely driven with Star Wars Rebels
- 3:42characters, I was not too thrilled. Man was I glad to be wrong.
- 3:47This was a delight from start to finish, and it ended in a
- 3:53really interesting way that I think will keep people coming back to this series.
- 3:58But Nick, I know that you don't have a lot of knowledge on Star
- 4:01Wars Rebels. How was that for you coming into this series? Like my
- 4:06knowledge of Star Wars Rebels is I think maybe I tried to watch it like
- 4:12a very very long time ago, and I made it like three episodes,
- 4:15and I just the animated stuff for me is so difficult, so I typically
- 4:20stay away from it. And I tried Star Wars Rebels didn't work whatever.
- 4:25So I come into this show like totally green. I have no clue any
- 4:29of the stories, backstories, don't I don't know anything, Like I wasn't
- 4:32even sure. I had to ask you when this show even like takes place,
- 4:36like when does it fit into the timeline? Like, I had no
- 4:39clue, And I think that that was like an advantage because they did from
- 4:46my perspective, they did a really good job kind of getting up to speed
- 4:48and explaining what was kind of happening in the world. And so yeah,
- 4:54from that perspective, I didn't really have any issues with following or knowing what
- 4:58was going on, right, And for me, I'm like, obviously we're
- 5:01big Star Wars fans, but I'm not so like Gung Ho on the you
- 5:09know, by the book like, this is the order of things, and
- 5:14you know, this fits with what happened, you know, twenty years earlier,
- 5:17and all these like I'm not nitpicking on certain situations or certain things.
- 5:20So I'm really just like I want to enjoy the show and the characters in
- 5:26the plot, and you know, typically they try to make things fit with
- 5:30what's happening, you know, in the overall universe, but sometimes it's just
- 5:34they're creating so many different stories now that it's not it's a little hard to
- 5:38make everything perfect. So I really enjoyed the characters in this it was phenomenal.
- 5:48So to talk about each epic, I mean we could, we could
- 5:51talk about each episode, but I think to make this easier, I think
- 5:56there's one episode we should talk about in depth, and that's the last episode.
- 5:59But before we get to that, let's talk about things about the show
- 6:02in general that we really liked. What was you were talking about the characters
- 6:06that you really liked was who is your favorite character? I think I believe
- 6:10I know who it is. Yeah, Baylen Skull is the greatest Star Wars
- 6:14character of all time. He's the best. He's he's the best, and
- 6:16I'm very sad that we only get to see Ray Stevenson play him in this
- 6:20series because he is uh so, yeah, the greatest character, the character
- 6:27of all time and Star Wars history. I decided Baylan Skulls they perfect,
- 6:33He's perfect. I'm so sad they have to recast him now because he's so
- 6:39He's such a cool character that you have, Like they can't just get rid
- 6:42of him. And obviously he has some his journey might be the most important
- 6:46one, Like we don't even I mean maybe in the Rebels lore we know
- 6:49where it leads, but right now we have no clue what's going to happen
- 6:54next, and like it just seems like more interesting and important than we realize.
- 6:59And I'm just like I can't wait. I think if if you have
- 7:02if you have knowledge of Clone Wars or Rebels, like maybe you have,
- 7:05like you can create a good theory of what he's doing. But like,
- 7:10truthfully, like we we don't know he's he's doing some like really mystic stuff.
- 7:16I'm really interested to see where exactly what's going, But we'll get to
- 7:20that. I totally agree with you. Ray Stevenson kills that role. Yeah,
- 7:30it really was. He brings that role to life. There we go.
- 7:35Yeah, it's Almos Wars moving on. He really just was a basic
- 7:42though. You and I talked about it before casting this that we were just
- 7:47kind of enamored with his performance. He just has a way of just kind
- 7:50of like sucking you into his scene, right, He's so good. I
- 7:56think the there was one particular moment where I was like just sold on this
- 8:01character. I think it's in episode four where he makes the deal with Sabine
- 8:09to come with them on board the ship into the other galaxy in exchange for
- 8:16the navigator, right, and she hands it over. His apprentice attacks her
- 8:22and like he actually like holds her back and he's like, no, I
- 8:28gave her my word, and like I meant it. This is a character
- 8:31of conviction. He's not like Looney Tunes evil dark Jedi with integrity. It's
- 8:37like crazy right right, It's like, you know, a dark Jedi I
- 8:41can get behind really fascinating agenda. Like he's playing like with his own deck.
- 8:48Really, you know, he's not serving anybody. He just his interests
- 8:50just happened to align with other people and he just makes it work. I
- 8:54think a character like that is fascinating. I was going to ask you did
- 8:58you have a scene that stood out to you as a favorite in the first
- 9:03five episodes? Oh, my goodness, it's now I have to like think
- 9:09sorry, I'm asking you to think. Yeah, man, we just talked
- 9:15about Balen, So the only things that are coming in my head are or
- 9:20like Balan scenes, because he just has these one liners, not even these
- 9:22one word one liners that are just like perfectly placed place you know, it's
- 9:26just like uh man, but some other ones. Oh, it's not really
- 9:35a scene. But I was thinking about this watching the last episode yesterday.
- 9:41What was the like, I feel like there was no reason for Sabine to
- 9:46cut her hair, so what was the symbolism there there? There isn't someone
- 9:52can argue with me about that. I don't think there was symbolism technically.
- 9:56I think that this was fan service. So that that's when she cuts her
- 10:03hair, she looks more a keen akin to her character in Rebels, Like
- 10:11she looks more like her original self, which, like, if that's the
- 10:16case, why not just start her that way? Right? Yeah? Because
- 10:20like I mean, you know, anytime you have like a moment like that,
- 10:24that's always supposed to be symbolic of like change, right, right,
- 10:28But I don't, at least for me. Yeah, there was no change
- 10:33that had taken place with her in that moment, right unless unless there's an
- 10:39argument of, you know, she's more open to the force in that moment
- 10:45or something. But I didn't get that. It didn't land stretch, Yeah,
- 10:48it didn't land if that was the case. Yeah, that that to
- 10:52me, Like there was really only like maybe two or three things throughout the
- 10:56whole show that I was like, why they do that? And then there
- 10:58was one big thing where I was like, oh no, this show was
- 11:01great until this moment. And you you probably know exactly what I'm talking about,
- 11:05especially not sure it's after the fifth episode. I think it was the
- 11:11sixth episode, maybe the end of the sixth episode when they are about to
- 11:15leave the galaxy there in I'm talking about the whales. I'm talking about the
- 11:20damn whale transportation device. You don't like the whales, dude, I love
- 11:30the whales. I didn't say I hated the whales. I hated the concept
- 11:37that they use the whales for time traveling, so they're not galaxy hopping whales.
- 11:46How is that better than time traveling whale? Either way, it's ridiculous.
- 11:52First of all. Is it ridiculous, Yes, but so is Star
- 12:00Wars. Star Wars is this is the problem with why do they fight with
- 12:05lightsabers? Technology tells us that we get as technological issues happened. We keep
- 12:09ourselves separated from our enemies. We don't get closer as we have more technology.
- 12:13That's silly, but that's humique. That makes sense. I'm talking about.
- 12:22You know, it's bad when you watch a series and a story like
- 12:26Star Wars that has a million different things that are possible, and when you
- 12:31go, oh, no, what's happening. That's a bad sign. The
- 12:37force works. It was mysterious ways. Don't give me that yet. That
- 12:43is the explanation. Yes, yes it does. Listen, I didn't hate
- 12:50the whales. I accepted them very quickly. I just wished like they could
- 12:58have just done something else with them transporting getting transported. I just I'm assuming
- 13:05the whales bring them back and the next season, right, I mean,
- 13:09I don't know, because I mean there's there's gotta be a whale if there's
- 13:13gotta be aft. That was actually my favorite use of the whales is when
- 13:18they when they're in when they get into orbit, right and and you know,
- 13:24they start receiving fire from the enemy. Yeah, and I think it's
- 13:31a hu yang is like, ah, good thing. The whales are providing
- 13:35cover and at that exact moment, for like strictly comedic purposes, the whales
- 13:41bounce. They're like, you know what, Nope, we're out of here.
- 13:45I love that. I love that the whales were like, we did
- 13:48not sign up for a war by we did our job. We brought you
- 13:52here. Yeah, you guys figure this out. So ridiculous. They actually
- 13:58did say one thing about the whales that I was like, I don't think
- 14:03you should have said that, because you're that was unnecessary and now it ties
- 14:09you to this and only raises more questions because they said that the whales only
- 14:13come here when they're prepared to die, right, which, like we see
- 14:20that graveyard, which, by the way, that was amazing, amazing visualization.
- 14:24That was wild, so cool. That was well done. Yeah yeah,
- 14:31but like we we know that the whales have made this journey beyond going
- 14:37there to die, which they did in this show, and they do in
- 14:39rebels. That's the so the whales are originally from rebels. I forgot if
- 14:43you picked up on that or not. Didn't pick up on that I was
- 14:46did either way, it's ridiculous, it's ridiculous. Either way it's it's ridiculous.
- 14:52So the way it goes down is ez there is in Dron's ship and
- 14:56the whales like overtake them, and the whale was like grab the ship basically,
- 15:01and like they start dragging it away and they jump into a galaxy far
- 15:07far away, which is how they end up there. It's actually scene speaking
- 15:13of galaxy far far away. We're we're about to just we're just hopping around
- 15:16here. I saw something online about Huayang when he was telling the story when
- 15:24they were on their way and when they're in the whales, and was it
- 15:26in the whale or when they were on their way in the whale. Ahsoka
- 15:30asks him to tell a story and he starts with in a galaxy far far
- 15:33away. Someone on Instagram was like, wait, is the whole Star Wars
- 15:37universe just him telling the story? And I was like, I do like
- 15:43that. That would be so cool because he's like old as ship, So
- 15:48what do you say that he is really old? But I went to a
- 15:56different place with that. I'm pretty sure it's wrong. But when I saw
- 16:00what the episode was called, and then Huyang says that in a galaxy far
- 16:04far away, and we realize where they're going. I was like, oh
- 16:08my god, is the galaxy that's far far away us? Is that our
- 16:11galaxy that they're going to? Because like from our perspective, like they were
- 16:17the ones that were far far away, right, But based on the planet,
- 16:22I don't think that that's accurate. Yeah, and I'm not ready for
- 16:26a Marvel Star Wars crossover event. Oh get ready for it, baby Disney,
- 16:33Disney, We'll have cake and eat it too. I don't think the
- 16:36world is ready nor deserves that that's that crossover event. I anyway agree.
- 16:44So for me, my probably my favorite scene that sticks out to me the
- 16:51moment where like my mouth like dropped. I was not expecting Soca to end
- 16:56up in the space between spaces and for that moment with Anakin. Uh that
- 17:03was Oh so is that that the fifth episode that that happened? I think
- 17:08it's the fourth episode? Okay, all right, wait, that's episodes.
- 17:12There's six or eight. There's six or eight? Eight? Okay, so
- 17:17that is the fifth episode, you're right, Okay, yeah, that makes
- 17:22sense. I think five? Right? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, that
- 17:26was those were like my favorite scenes in the whole show with Anakin and and
- 17:30uhh, Soka like that was awesome, especially seeing like Anakin like flip between
- 17:40Anakin and basically you know, Darth Vader were like, yeah, really cool
- 17:45scenes and like getting a little backstory too, right, because you found out
- 17:48earlier in the show that Ahsoka's is that her master was Anakin, which like,
- 17:53you know, we never we never know like in the you know,
- 17:56in the in the and they have the trilogy, the prequel, sure,
- 18:03thank you in the prequel trilogy, Like we don't hear about that, right,
- 18:07And so anyone who's a Star Wars fan but hasn't watched Rebels or knows
- 18:11the Lord too deep, like that was a cool reveal, right, like
- 18:15yeah, I thought that was a really good way to do that. Yeah,
- 18:18and then we get this whole like backstory with them too when they're when
- 18:21she's in the space between spaces and and uh really awesome, super well done.
- 18:30Yeah, and for and for those who don't know already and wondering like
- 18:33how she's even still like so young or alive like her race, I guess
- 18:37is able to live a longer life, typically over two hundred years I believe
- 18:41is what I read. So that would that would make sense why she's like,
- 18:47you know, not with us and still life to begin with it?
- 18:51Uh so, yeah, those are some Those were cool. That is cool.
- 18:56Maybe want to watch Clone Wars, which I've never said, you know
- 19:00what, I wanted to go Back Wars. I should give Clone Wars another
- 19:04chance. So I I have seen most of Clone Wars. Actually I would
- 19:10say the vast majority of it's actually pretty good. I meant, I meant
- 19:14the movie. Oh you mean you mean Attack of the Clones. I mean
- 19:18an Attack of the Clones exactly. Sorry, I should have said Attack of
- 19:21the Clones and not Clone Wars. Joe's face is all made to watch.
- 19:27I hate, I hate, and I hate. Yeah, everyone does.
- 19:34It's it's it's the worst movie. Actually, not enough people do. Some
- 19:37people want to pretend will get us crucified and canceled. Some people want to
- 19:41pretend that the sequel trilogy is the worst thing that Star Wars has ever made.
- 19:45But those people really truly forget how bad Attack of the Clones actually is.
- 19:51Yeah, Attack of the Clones was really bad. The only thing good
- 19:53about the prequel trilogy is like the last hour and a half of you can
- 20:00do this? Come on, I can't do it. Come on, you
- 20:08can do it, buddy, I'm having a panic attack. Come on,
- 20:15really, dig deep? You got it? Are you turning red? No,
- 20:23it's like the weird lighting because I have a stupid ass, fucking I
- 20:27need to change my camera view. My head's blocking this. I'm totally blanking
- 20:33on the third movie badness. I can't even think of the first movie in
- 20:41the prequel trilogy? Are you kidding me? What is the first one called?
- 20:45Our podcast is Star Wars inspired? Dick? I haven't. This is
- 20:52awful. My brains just completely shut off. The phantom I got it for
- 20:57you. Let the record show a fantom bad attack of the clothes and uh
- 21:03you know, mm hmmm yeah, something about you know, the Empire,
- 21:18the Empire rising. Nope, No, that's not it. The Empire Empire
- 21:25seeds itself, dude, I'm totally you gotta say it for me, please,
- 21:29I'm trying to make a point. Holy shots, Holy Sith. Anyway,
- 21:37the only thing good about the prequel trilogies, the prequel trilogy, the
- 21:41only thing good is the last hour and a half of Revenge of the Sith.
- 21:44That's the only thing that's good. I want to bounce back to you
- 21:48were talking about grapes I've got I've got only a couple of grapes. I
- 21:52feel like this show tries to do too much. It's called the Soca,
- 22:00but like, you could easily make an argument for it, this is a
- 22:03Sabine show, or heck, you could make a freaking argument for like this
- 22:07is a Balen Skull show. Maybe a less bit argument, but well,
- 22:11you can make a similar argument for Harah. Like there's there's a few different,
- 22:15like main characters in this show. Yeah, it's interesting. I wonder
- 22:21if they're gonna maybe spin off a couple of these characters on their own,
- 22:25right, like because of like because of what you just said, there are
- 22:30they do a lot of like story building for each character and in their own
- 22:34way and more than maybe normal, right based on what the show title is,
- 22:37And so a spinoff for Balen would make sense, especially if he's going
- 22:45to be the only person left in that in that galaxy, right, I
- 22:51mean, obviously Ahsoka and Sabine are currently stuck there. Well, I have
- 22:56to imagine they figure out a way, you know, back to their galaxy.
- 23:02But Balin's stand sounds like this is my this is why I'm here looking
- 23:07for something, and maybe he's leave but I don't know. I I disagree.
- 23:15So the ending, like the way I saw the ending, it feels
- 23:19like none of them are leaving anytime soon. Like it kind of feels like
- 23:27so what Ahsoka said, uh something along the lines of like where we are,
- 23:32where we need to be. We can get more into this when we
- 23:36talk about the ending. But like something, there are a couple of things
- 23:37that happen in the ending that makes me think, like, ah okay,
- 23:41this is like the Force's way of like directing important players, putting them where
- 23:48they need to be for like events that are about to transpire, like something
- 23:52big is about to happen there, right, And it feels as though the
- 23:57Force is pushing certain people to certain directions. So I think if there isn't
- 24:03Ahsoka season two, I think that they are spending that season like on that
- 24:07planet. Interesting. I like that because it's you know, maybe against what
- 24:15you would potentially like think a show would do, right, like leave your
- 24:19main character stranded away from where the actual trouble is apparently supposed to be,
- 24:25which is back on her original galaxy. Of course Ezra is on that ship,
- 24:29so there's still a Jedi that can defend potentially that would be cool.
- 24:34I mean, I'm into that totally. I I like that thought process.
- 24:41Who else is on? Who's is stuck in that galaxy? It's is besides
- 24:45Sabine Ahsoka Balen? Who else is there? So there's also is it Balen's
- 24:55Balen's apprentice is there too? Right? She get stuck? Yeah, it's
- 24:59a shin right Haiti? Yeah, yeah, she's also there. Her was
- 25:07awesome. She was like, like, she is creepy, creepy. Yeah,
- 25:11creepy is the word I was looking for. She was creepy, very
- 25:15creepy. Im well done, well done, yeah, very She feels more
- 25:22Sith like to me than Baalen does. Totally. Balen's you know, obviously
- 25:27not supposed to be sith like you said, you called it, he's a
- 25:30dark Jedi. Yeah, she's definitely got more Sith characteristics to her. We'll
- 25:37see what happens. But she's stuck there too, right, so there is
- 25:40there is quite a lot of the well how funny is that? Right?
- 25:42The show started with those four in their own galaxy and ends with those four
- 25:49in a different galaxy and it ends with the people stuck in the other galaxy
- 25:55back in their original galaxy where they weren't in the beginning. Very interesting,
- 25:57Uh, it's a great observation. Interesting things technically. Technically, so I
- 26:04think we have in the beginning of the first episode, we're introduced to six
- 26:11main characters, right, Sabine, Ahska, Balen, Shin, Harah,
- 26:18and then also was it Morgan Morgan is the witch? Yeah, Morgan Elzabeth,
- 26:26I think, right, yeah, okay, so those are six characters,
- 26:30right, and with the exception of Harah, they're all five of like
- 26:33the five of six of them are still on that planet at the end of
- 26:38this. Yeah, well Morgan's dead, but she's there. If consciousness doesn't
- 26:47travel, she's there. She's there. God, that's yeah, that's a
- 26:52great observation. They pulled the old switcheroo for sure. Very interesting and throng.
- 27:00Character is I don't know, I didn't get like a lot from him.
- 27:03He's obviously very smart and tactical, right, you like wanting to know
- 27:07everything about Ahsoka, and when he found out that it was that Anakin was
- 27:12her master, he was like, Okay, this is how she's going to
- 27:15handle trying to keep us from leaving this planet. And like, you know,
- 27:18they played it off like he did everything perfectly so that he could leave.
- 27:22But I feel like we haven't really seen what kind of like power and
- 27:26destruction like he can cause. Right. I agree. I think that this
- 27:32was actually one of one of my gripes with the show. It's not a
- 27:36huge one, right, So, like Throng is even outside of Rebels,
- 27:41Throng is a really famous Star Wars character in the books, in the in
- 27:47the Legends lore books, outside the Legends lower and you know, he's known
- 27:52for being like ruthless, he's known for being just being able to outsmart all
- 27:56of his enemies, right, And I was okay with him not being as
- 28:03as cutthroat as normally is. I mean, like he was still a cutthroat,
- 28:06right, but like he he seemed like he was scared, Like there
- 28:10was an element of him that seemed like he was afraid. And I was
- 28:12good with that. I thought that was actually interesting development considering what he's been
- 28:17through. And you're right, we did see him be tactical and and he
- 28:22does ultimately get away by playing the odds against the heroes, And I think
- 28:27that's that's great, But like I just feel like we did not get that
- 28:32sense of Throng is the smartest person in the room, you know, right,
- 28:38And I I felt like that was a little disappointing. But you know,
- 28:41clearly we're gonna get more Throng, which is great, more opportunity for
- 28:45that. For sure. I loved how we got but you know, we
- 28:49had there were so many Jedis in this show. Like, we had so
- 28:52many Jedis, Like there was where we had three doing Jedi stuff. It
- 28:56was great. I was like, this is amazing, Like what like I
- 29:00wasn't expecting that, you know, like I knew Ahsoka was a Jedi,
- 29:03but I had no clue that we were going to get like two more plus
- 29:07the dark Jedi and you know, Sith essentially, right, Like, I
- 29:11was excellent and and I just loved seeing you know, the blue and the
- 29:15green lightsaber and then obviously Ahsoka's double wielding white lightsabers are totally badass, like
- 29:21totally badass. Yeah, so many cool Jedi scenes, you know, especially
- 29:29because we don't get a lot of those in the Star Wars stuff. Now
- 29:32that's TV series, right oriented, So it's, uh, it's cool.
- 29:37He's cool. I love the scene too where Ezra is like building himself a
- 29:41lightsaber and and then him and and Huyang find out that they have the same
- 29:47Uh well yeah, they have a person of interesting person interesting better Yeah,
- 29:52connecting, which is cool, Canaan, Ezra's master, very cool character.
- 29:59Even man, I keep talking up Rebels and I swear I'm not a fan
- 30:03of it, but he's cool. He's cool and Rebels. I won't deny
- 30:07that. I think Joseph's a closet Rebels. Man, I don't say that,
- 30:18by the way, So you have so much hatred in your heart.
- 30:22Genuine a genuine surprise for this show, ultimately for me was so in In
- 30:32Clone Wars, I believe it is. Uh, We're first introduced to Yang
- 30:36and he's played by David Tennant, which you know is already wonderful. I
- 30:42did not think in a million years that when they got this robot to be
- 30:47in this show, that David Tennant would be reprising his role as Yang.
- 30:52It was just so great to like, I didn't even recognize him for like
- 30:56the first like two episodes, and then I think around episode three he sets
- 30:59up thing. It was like, I know who that is. Yeah.
- 31:03I had no clue, but I looked it up afterwards. You know,
- 31:07I was doing some research and I was like, oh, David Tennant,
- 31:10I bet Joe loved this clearly, so you did. Yeah, is he
- 31:15your doctor? Who? Is here? Is he your doctor who? Yeah?
- 31:19No, he's not my doctor. I mean I I'm not a Dave
- 31:23Aeutenant doctor hater like some people out there. He's definitely the most popular doctor.
- 31:29There are people who like to hate on him because he's the most popular
- 31:32doctor, and that's silly. I'm a Matt Smith guy, but I do.
- 31:37I do love me some Daved Tenant. Nice. I know we're inchesting
- 31:42to talk about the last episode, and we will. I just want to
- 31:45address one more thing that we have not addressed yet, and I feel like
- 31:48we gotta actually two more things. One of them is quick, though,
- 31:53I'll do the quick one. First, we got a I don't want to
- 31:57call it a cameo, but like we'll call it some We got a surprise
- 32:01of c three po showing up in an episode and getting a Leah organa name
- 32:07drop in one particular scene. What do you think of that? I think,
- 32:10like initially I was like a little bit like do we have to do
- 32:15we have to drop an OG character like every time, you know, I
- 32:22mean because we already like granted we didn't know we were gonna get Anakin yet,
- 32:25but Anakin. It was more Anakin, which technically is not an OG
- 32:31character. The Darth Vader portion is technically I mean, it depends right,
- 32:37like you could how you view it, Like, that's a tough that's a
- 32:40tough statement. I guess what I just made. It's like totally arguable both
- 32:45ways. But the C three PO thing, I was like, I mean,
- 32:49they couldn't they couldn't have done anything else here, like any other any
- 32:52other way. Honestly, that scene probably doesn't even need to be there,
- 32:55like like just just trust you general, like, oh, like what the
- 33:00hell? Like it was like, but it was cool. It's cool,
- 33:02it's fun. But I don't know if it's necessary. I guess that's really
- 33:07what I'm getting at. I didn't hate it or anything. I was just
- 33:08like, is it necessary to do this? Because I feel like it's it's
- 33:13kind of leaned on too much. It's like, hey, can we drop
- 33:15in a C three po or can we get our two de two in here
- 33:19real quick? Or whatever? Well, it also makes the world feel smaller
- 33:22too, right, Like, yeah, it's a galactic republic, and yet
- 33:28we keep running into the same people over and over again, which, like,
- 33:30you know, it's that's fine, but I agree with you, like
- 33:35ultimately, like the scene doesn't really take us anywhere because that plot line isn't
- 33:40really all that important at least for this season. Maybe they're playing some I
- 33:45don't know, five D chess and like down the road, like those politics
- 33:49are going to be important. I don't know right now. I just feel
- 33:52like that it just just like why do you, like, why keep dropping
- 33:55Lea's name? You know, I mean, granted we know why because of
- 33:59that timeline wise, right, Like she's playing a huge role right now,
- 34:01so it makes sense. But I guess you could have had someone else drop
- 34:05the name instead of three pl right, Like, yeah, but see three
- 34:08pell has been you know, close companion for so long, so it makes
- 34:14sense. But yeah, that was nice to see him. But yeah,
- 34:17I agree, the scene is not needed and ultimately detracts from what I want
- 34:23to see more of, right, yeah, which apparently I love. Yeah,
- 34:30because it's your closet Rebels fan. Everyone knows this. You have Rebel's
- 34:35characters the only thing I wanted to address before the final episode. I'm gonna
- 34:39lump this together, but this is probably going to be more of a Sabine
- 34:44focused conversation. What do you think of Sabine and Ezra? I think I
- 34:49liked I liked both performances really well. And I was pleasantly surprised on how
- 34:53much I liked Ezra because for me, sometimes it's really hard to accept a
- 34:59character and new character, even though you've heard about the character for six episodes,
- 35:05but you don't meet the character until the last two or so episodes,
- 35:08right, Like, sometimes it can be really hard to get the audience to
- 35:13like accept how that character is actually portraying being portrayed, right, So I
- 35:20thought they did a good job of giving us enough like Ezra talk throughout the
- 35:23first parts of the season, so that when he finally was on screen,
- 35:29it was like, oh yeah, cool. And then and you they did
- 35:31a good job, Like I was like, oh, great, this is
- 35:32Ezra, like you know, seems it's weirdly likable very quickly. Right,
- 35:39That's that's yeah, that's a great way to say that. He was very
- 35:42likable very quickly, which was like a shock to me because like I said
- 35:45before, it's very It's not an easy thing to do. So they did
- 35:50a great job. He did a great job. As far as their relationship
- 35:53goes, I'm like, are they brother and sister? Are they dating?
- 35:58Like? What the hell? Like are they gonna like I feel like they're
- 36:01just like they're keeping it tense in a weird way. It feels like it's
- 36:06more like a tense relationship in case they want to like unpack something else later.
- 36:10I don't know what the Rebels storyline is, but in my head,
- 36:14I'm like, they're totally gonna like try to get these two to be into
- 36:16each other until the very end of the episode of the last episode when he
- 36:22sees what's her name was it the general or the the leader of the oh
- 36:29Hara? When he sees Hara. Yeah, that interaction was super weird.
- 36:32Like I was like, wait, are they dating? Like, were they
- 36:37Like I could actually I could give some context of that. Okay, what's
- 36:39the context? Yeah? And okay, actually, wow, there's a lot
- 36:46of context there if wow. Okay, So as there's an orphan right when
- 36:52we meet him in Rebels and he becomes a rebel on board Harrah's ship,
- 36:58the Ghost, right, Hara becomes kind of a surrogate mom to him,
- 37:04and like that's who she is. She's the captain of that ship, right,
- 37:07but like she also is a very maternal figure in his life. And
- 37:09then also, if you want to take that step further, his master Canaan,
- 37:14who is probably like the paternal figure in his life. He got it.
- 37:20Canaan got it on with Harah. Got it? Yeah. And that
- 37:24little kid that you saw with Harah, that's Canaan's son. Yeah. So
- 37:30like I guess they had like a found family kind of thing going on.
- 37:34Yeah, got it. Okay, So there's definitely a Sabinean Ezra storyline potentially
- 37:38with more than just friends then, is what it was kind of feeling that
- 37:43I've not seen enough of Rebels to confirm that, but like I kind of
- 37:45did get that vibe too, that like, this isn't just like a best
- 37:49friend thing maybe, right, I mean, we're best friends, and I'm
- 37:54not sure I would almost die traveling to another galaxy. I really don't know.
- 38:01Man, that was a lot of work for just best friends. Nick.
- 38:06Ain't no mountain high enough, ain't no valley low enough, ain't no
- 38:09galaxy far far light to keep me from getting to you, you little son
- 38:17of a. Now I'm blushing. Pause, pausive show, I need to
- 38:21break Yeah, we have fun, we have fun. We have fun here
- 38:34goodness all right? I want to just talk about Sabine really quick. This
- 38:37easily could have been a Sabine show for as heavily featured as she is,
- 38:42and I understand the reason for that is because there is such a focus on,
- 38:46uh, the apprenticeship between Sabine and Ahsoka, as well as Ahska to
- 38:53Anakin. Right reflecting on will as Sooka make the same mistakes that Anakin made,
- 39:00and I think that's a really great idea to focus on. I don't
- 39:07know if that's the kind of thing that you want to focus on on a
- 39:10show that is supposed to be so character centric. It's for as inferior.
- 39:16I feel bad calling an inferior for as lesser of quality as a show as
- 39:22obi Wan was. I think obi Wan's fine, for the record, I
- 39:25just don't think it's anything to write home about. I think Ahsoka is a
- 39:30lot more of an exciting show for a lot with that. Yeah, for
- 39:34a lot of reasons, but obi Wan does a really good job of keeping
- 39:37the story mostly focused on obi Wan and shows new context. I think the
- 39:44only reason why that bothers me is because like what you're promising the viewer,
- 39:46right, that's my only grape about it. I really liked the show,
- 39:52and even if it explores more than what we bargained for, I liked most
- 39:57of what it showed us. So that's pretty good. Yeah, I was
- 40:00into it too, And I wonder if part of the reason there is,
- 40:04like you know, Ahsoka was very She's not. She's a Jedi of few
- 40:08words, right, almost not as few as Balen, But she doesn't have
- 40:14like these long monologues and these long teaching stories, right, It's like much
- 40:19more like patient and meditative way of speaking. And so I wonder if you
- 40:23know, if that's just what her character is in Star Wars Lore, then
- 40:29they knew that they had to branch out a little bit more with these other
- 40:32characters and tell more of a story solely on them, because a show that
- 40:37if the show did focus a ton on Ahsoka, like you were saying,
- 40:44it might not have been as you know, high pacelin and interesting the whole
- 40:46way, because she's just how that actual character is is created, is not
- 40:53that so it kind of in that context that aint so got my thought.
- 41:01Man, last episode leaves us with so much to think about, but I
- 41:07want to get into first and foremost the Night Sisters and the ritual that goes
- 41:17forth with Morgan, where I guess like she's presented with the talisand blade right
- 41:25and you know she's like fully initiated with them, so like right away,
- 41:30you know, like as soon as the sword comes out, You're like,
- 41:31Okay, cool, We're gonna get some sweet lightsaber action here. Yeah.
- 41:37The level of mysticism in this episode was so cool. I am all about
- 41:42give me more mystic force. I think that's so interesting. Hi. Editor's
- 41:50note, this is gonna be a long one. So we had some technical
- 41:52difficulties in Riverside. Lost my portion of the recording you were about to hear,
- 41:58which is really unfortunate, and I didn't know that until our call was
- 42:00already over. We mostly spoke about Sabine's awesome fight choreography incorporating both Jedi and
- 42:07Mandalorian fight styles really really cool, and then also the Ahsoka versus Morgan fight
- 42:14being one of the best choreographied fights in Star Wars at least one of my
- 42:17favorites since the original Anakin Verse Obi Wan fight in Revenge of the Sith.
- 42:23I also dropped this bomb on Nick. Diana Lee Incinanto, the actress who
- 42:29plays Morgan. She was an absolute beast in this fight and clearly had some
- 42:35previous training. I'm assuming the reason she's so good at fighting I fight choreography
- 42:39specifically, is because she's the goddaughter of Bruce Lee. Yeah, no joke.
- 42:45Cool, right, here's Nick reacting to that factoid. No way,
- 42:52I tell whatever I just said was wrong. I definitely don't think I've seen
- 42:58her in anything, because I think I would know that. What dude,
- 43:02you gotta write a Twitter thread about that. That's cool. You're right,
- 43:07Nick, that is cool. Anyways, we spoke more about pmsticism and how
- 43:10Balin appears to be standing on the hand of the Father, the physical embodiment
- 43:15of the Force while looking into the distance about to start his Fano's quest,
- 43:19looking awesome while doing it. Rip Ray Stevenson. As for Ahsoka, here's
- 43:24Nick's score on the show. This is gonna be a much higher score than
- 43:30our last rating of Secret Invasion, which was the lowest Both of us have
- 43:32ever given anything ever and probably will ever give anything ever, man, this
- 43:39is up there for me. I'm gonna say eight and a half out of
- 43:44ten. I really liked it. I definitely would rewatch it. I'd recommend
- 43:51it, and I am looking forward to season two. So this is gonna
- 43:54be really awesome, and it's like it's it maybe deserves a higher score because
- 43:58it's rejuvenated my interest in what they're doing with Star Wars, which is cool.
- 44:02I was, you know, because like we were a little bit burned
- 44:05out, So yeah, what about you. I'm not far from him on
- 44:10this. I gave an eight great show, and I have renewed faith in
- 44:15the series. Next time, we're catching Loki season two, one of Nick's
- 44:19favorite properties from Marvel. It's definitely up there for me too. Be sure
- 44:22to join us, and thank you so much for listening, and of course,
- 44:25may the review be with you. Nick, say the thing peace.
