- 0:25Speaker 2: Feel What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown, and this
- 0:33Speaker 2: is a very special Thanksgiving installment of the Meltdown Horror Club.
- 0:37Speaker 2: And while being filled with plenty of horrifying moments, mostly
- 0:41Speaker 2: our holiday movie, this episode also crosses over into some
- 0:45Speaker 2: schmaltzy heartfelt moments.
- 0:48Speaker 3: Sincerely, this is one of the few things in life
- 0:53Speaker 3: that I enjoy. Especially these episodes are only happening because
- 0:59Speaker 3: people have supported us. I am thankful for the fact
- 1:03Speaker 3: that we get to do this and continue. Thank you
- 1:05Speaker 3: two suckers for showing up on a regular basis. Thank
- 1:09Speaker 3: you for having us. Occasionally you watch this and you
- 1:12Speaker 3: pay the price. But most of the time we watch
- 1:14Speaker 3: pretty fun stuff. This has been a fun journey.
- 1:16Speaker 4: I'm glad to say I'm part of it.
- 1:18Speaker 3: So I'm thankful to both of you and pretty much
- 1:21Speaker 3: anybody that comes along on this ride at Week In
- 1:23Speaker 3: and Week Out.
- 1:24Speaker 4: My parents don't even say that at Thanksgiving.
- 1:26Speaker 1: See?
- 1:27Speaker 3: That's what I'm saying. I am genuinely thankful for you
- 1:31Speaker 3: suckers and then for the people at home that help
- 1:34Speaker 3: put this together. And every episode only happens because people
- 1:37Speaker 3: are doing this. I wish we could find our way
- 1:39Speaker 3: to get to more people, but I really appreciate the
- 1:42Speaker 3: people that have come along and helped make this happen.
- 1:46Speaker 2: And you can be one of those people. Come support
- 1:49Speaker 2: the show and become part of the fun. We're building
- 1:51Speaker 2: a community here, and we can't do that unless you
- 1:54Speaker 2: join in. So get involved, and you can be part
- 1:56Speaker 2: of the important decisions, like picking movies we watch. And
- 2:01Speaker 2: this episode is a perfect example of that. We let
- 2:04Speaker 2: people vote on which Thanksgiving-themed movie we should watch. And man,
- 2:08Speaker 2: no amount of stuffing can fix the hurt that this
- 2:11Speaker 2: movie put on us. But hey, it comes with the territory.
- 2:14Speaker 2: So become a Melketeer and you will have access to
- 2:17Speaker 2: all of our exclusive horror episodes. Your help is pick
- 2:20Speaker 2: which movies we're going to watch and you'll get to
- 2:22Speaker 2: hear us say funny and amazing things like this.
- 2:27Speaker 5: I feel like I'm salivating when you know you're going
- 2:30Speaker 5: to throw up.
- 2:32Speaker 3: I'm getting a little bit of that too. Ah, the holidays.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Oh, God.
- 2:41Speaker 3: So my question is, why aren't there more Thanksgiving songs?
- 2:44Speaker 4: Are there any Thanksgiving songs?
- 2:46Speaker 3: There actually are. And that's what I asked the question.
- 2:49Speaker 3: And then I went looking. I was like, oh, there's
- 2:51Speaker 3: actually quite a few. And then on top of that,
- 2:53Speaker 3: half of them have that. One of them specifically starts with,
- 2:56Speaker 3: why aren't there more Thanksgiving songs? That is how the
- 2:59Speaker 3: song opens. It's like, there's all these Christmas songs. Why
- 3:03Speaker 3: aren't there more Thanksgiving songs? So I'm going to sing
- 3:05Speaker 3: one right now. And it's not really great. That's what
- 3:09Speaker 3: I remember finding in previous episodes of trying to find.
- 3:13Speaker 4: 41 best Thanksgiving songs.
- 3:14Speaker 3: There you go. There were way more than I expected
- 3:17Speaker 3: when I started on this journey. Yeah. So we'll work
- 3:22Speaker 3: in what we can along the way. The one that
- 3:25Speaker 3: I had to.
- 3:25Speaker 4: Of course, Martina McBride.
- 3:27Speaker 3: Well, yeah, that's the thing. I was throwing out anything
- 3:30Speaker 3: country related. Yeah. We're all going to be like. Country music.
- 3:33Speaker 3: But they are all like super like.
- 3:36Speaker 4: Down homey.
- 3:37Speaker 3: Not even that. Just like. thankful and like not there's
- 3:41Speaker 3: no fun wins for the most part it's all like
- 3:43Speaker 3: earnest and i'm so thankful of my family and there's
- 3:47Speaker 3: nothing might be johnny cash telling you how great things
- 3:50Speaker 3: are in the world that you have this broken ass
- 3:52Speaker 3: farm and you know.
- 3:53Speaker 4: There's none that are like my uncle came in and
- 3:56Speaker 4: slapped my grandma while grandpa put his cigarette out.
- 4:00Speaker 3: Probably one if i dig a little deeper god forbid
- 4:04Speaker 3: i eat my vegetables But I don't know if this
- 4:07Speaker 3: is what they intended when they said, eat your vegetables.
- 4:11Speaker 3: We just told everyone you loved that movie when you
- 4:14Speaker 3: weren't here. Oh, sure. Had no problems with it at all.
- 4:17Speaker 3: No problems. It was so well written. You loved it.
- 4:21Speaker 4: So well written, so well directed, and it knew what
- 4:24Speaker 4: direction to go in.
- 4:25Speaker 3: Totally knew. It's a really weird thing to have your
- 4:29Speaker 3: first date be Thanksgiving. Yeah. And why he invites her
- 4:34Speaker 3: as though he knows she has no family. Like, shouldn't
- 4:38Speaker 3: she be at her family? Why would you assume tomorrow
- 4:40Speaker 3: night Thanksgiving is when you guys want to go have dinner?
- 4:44Speaker 3: That's weird. That was the weird revelation I had in
- 4:48Speaker 3: the middle of this Garfield episode. It's the crossover. We
- 4:52Speaker 3: never knew that we needed. Beforehand, I went and re-watched
- 4:56Speaker 3: the first one. Because it's been a long time since
- 4:58Speaker 3: I've seen it.
- 4:58Speaker 4: My question to our audience is, what did we do
- 5:02Speaker 4: to hurt you?
- 5:03Speaker 3: I mean, we do always give them the option of like, hey,
- 5:08Speaker 3: we're making our list. You can give us a movie.
- 5:10Speaker 3: You can give us something terrible to watch is what
- 5:12Speaker 3: we always throw out there. And usually we don't get that.
- 5:15Speaker 3: But now you see what happens.
- 5:17Speaker 5: You done it.
- 5:18Speaker 3: Sometimes they make good on their threat. Or our offered threat.
- 5:23Speaker 3: And now... They've made us pay.
- 5:26Speaker 4: This is almost like what this is going for, but
- 5:29Speaker 4: it failed. I mean, it was nowhere near as entertaining
- 5:33Speaker 4: or coherent.
- 5:34Speaker 3: It's sad that I have to use the phrase, without
- 5:37Speaker 3: the charm of GWAR. Yeah, exactly. True is the sad thing.
- 5:43Speaker 3: Without the charm and endearing qualities that GWAR brings to
- 5:49Speaker 3: a project. That's why this one is so good is
- 5:52Speaker 3: because It's a spoof. It doesn't take itself seriously. It's
- 5:56Speaker 3: sending up the horror movies that they're making fun of.
- 6:00Speaker 3: Even in the premise. Isn't it ridiculous that horror movies
- 6:03Speaker 3: are all set around a holiday? What if it was Thanksgiving?
- 6:07Speaker 3: What if it was a freaking turkey? The filmmakers first
- 6:12Speaker 3: met her in a donut shop to discuss the movie
- 6:14Speaker 3: days prior to shooting. Days prior. Days prior. They put
- 6:20Speaker 3: an ad on Craigslist. for a girl to be in
- 6:23Speaker 3: the nude scene of their horror movie. The only person
- 6:27Speaker 3: who responded was Wanda West.
- 6:29Speaker 4: The only person.
- 6:31Speaker 3: So that infamous opening scene where she's running around and
- 6:34Speaker 3: she's exposed, we'll say, and she's about to get killed,
- 6:39Speaker 3: they shot that in a public park without a permit.
- 6:43Speaker 3: And she's running around topless. They shot that in a
- 6:46Speaker 3: public park. The camping scenes were impromptu done outside of
- 6:52Speaker 3: an abandoned Wendy's on the outskirts of New Jersey.
- 6:57Speaker 4: See, this is everybody who's ever thought about, I want
- 7:02Speaker 4: to make a movie. This proves that it can be done.
- 7:05Speaker 3: And these guys did it. I want to make a
- 7:08Speaker 3: horror movie.
- 7:08Speaker 4: And they did it pretty well.
- 7:09Speaker 3: I have no money.
- 7:10Speaker 5: There's just like no... joy to it no not that
- 7:17Speaker 5: feeling of like two low budget you know college students
- 7:20Speaker 5: coming together and maybe that has to do with having
- 7:24Speaker 5: more money so they're just like throw more stuff but
- 7:26Speaker 5: there's no actual like feeling of this being someone's like
- 7:30Speaker 5: passion project or anything it's just kind of like and
- 7:34Speaker 5: there it is there is that.
- 7:38Speaker 3: And also because it's not just a low budget horror
- 7:41Speaker 3: movie it's above anything else a comedy And comedy, specifically
- 7:46Speaker 3: horror comedy, is really hard to do. So the fact
- 7:49Speaker 3: that the comedy is kind of what works best and
- 7:52Speaker 3: holds up throughout the movie, as dumb as some of
- 7:55Speaker 3: the aspects are, as no budget as they are, that's
- 7:59Speaker 3: what carries you through. The stuff that's written is written... Again,
- 8:04Speaker 3: the same dumb level of humor is there that's in
- 8:07Speaker 3: this one. But it clicks somehow and it works. And
- 8:10Speaker 3: it feels like they're making fun of the dumb aspects
- 8:14Speaker 3: of horror movies instead of what we end up getting
- 8:17Speaker 3: in this one. So I think that's part of it.
- 8:19Speaker 4: But it's also like they're making fun of those dumb
- 8:22Speaker 4: aspects like they're fans of those dumb aspects.
- 8:25Speaker 3: Yeah, you do get that.
- 8:26Speaker 4: Like, this is what I love about horror movies, but God,
- 8:28Speaker 4: it's dumb.
- 8:29Speaker 3: It sure is a stupid cliche. Here's the dumbest presentation
- 8:34Speaker 3: of it right here. And then you get to this,
- 8:37Speaker 3: and I'm like, this is just Muppets and a guy.
- 8:40Speaker 3: One guy with a dumb wig, and that's it. Like,
- 8:42Speaker 3: 99% of the rest of this is a puppet show.
- 8:46Speaker 4: You know, that scene at the beginning, too, I felt,
- 8:49Speaker 4: with Turkey sitting around with his family, which was.
- 8:53Speaker 3: So painful to sit through.
- 8:55Speaker 4: But it reminded me of that scene in Natural Born
- 8:58Speaker 4: Killers with Rodney Dangerfield.
- 9:00Speaker 3: It's like meant to be a sitcom within the story.
- 9:04Speaker 4: In Natural Born Killers, that was one of the weirdest
- 9:08Speaker 4: scenes just because it comes from out of nowhere. But
- 9:11Speaker 4: it's also one of the most intriguing scenes.
- 9:14Speaker 3: This was a total opposite of that.
- 9:15Speaker 4: It was not intriguing. It was just dull.
- 9:19Speaker 3: It was another one. From the technical aspect, I'm looking
- 9:23Speaker 3: at it and I'm like, they start doing the weird lighting.
- 9:25Speaker 3: I'm like, from the technical aspect, like this looks great.
- 9:28Speaker 3: Like you guys figured out the way to light this.
- 9:30Speaker 3: Like again, go back to our cinematographer. Like it's shot
- 9:33Speaker 3: really well. It does these cool, like again, horror movie
- 9:35Speaker 3: knockoffs of like zoom over and look at him from
- 9:38Speaker 3: this weird angle. The lights are flashing. Like that all
- 9:40Speaker 3: looked great. I hated everything else that was going on
- 9:43Speaker 3: in the scene. but that's not why that movie works.
- 9:47Speaker 3: It works because he then, after you had that, they
- 9:50Speaker 3: made all that. It's all there. It looks great. He
- 9:53Speaker 3: focused on the people. He developed the characters. We have
- 9:56Speaker 3: an actual story. We have people that we care about.
- 9:58Speaker 3: So like you're watching the, the story and all the
- 10:02Speaker 3: other weird stuff is just there as like background it's
- 10:05Speaker 3: like set dressing it's it's you know weird character designs
- 10:08Speaker 3: but it's not taking away from the story.
- 10:12Speaker 4: I thought well maybe once we get past this It'll
- 10:15Speaker 4: get better, but the minute that they introduced the Yomi character,
- 10:19Speaker 4: I knew we were doomed. Because I was like, here's
- 10:22Speaker 4: this super cute, well-built puppet who I never understood why
- 10:28Speaker 4: she was naked throughout.
- 10:29Speaker 2: The whole thing.
- 10:30Speaker 3: And nobody addressed that. Why didn't our wig guy come
- 10:33Speaker 3: down and be like, can we get you some clothes
- 10:35Speaker 3: or something? Why are you wandering around the streets naked?
- 10:38Speaker 4: But something just told me, I was like, okay, they've
- 10:42Speaker 4: introduced this Which I can't see how this is going
- 10:45Speaker 4: to tie into anything else. And I kept thinking for
- 10:48Speaker 4: a while, well, maybe that's part of the joke. Maybe
- 10:50Speaker 4: these are characters from the second movie. And because we
- 10:53Speaker 4: don't know them, we're.
- 10:54Speaker 3: Like, what the hell?
- 10:55Speaker 4: But if that was the case, there was zero payoff.
- 10:59Speaker 3: If only that was well thought out. If only they'd
- 11:02Speaker 3: put that much effort into it.
- 11:05Speaker 4: But by that point, I was like, I don't care
- 11:08Speaker 4: when we were there. I'm not mad that they did that.
- 11:11Speaker 4: I don't think it's funny. I just knew it was
- 11:14Speaker 4: going to happen. And sure enough, it happened. And now
- 11:17Speaker 4: he's got a chainsaw boner, which is how I think
- 11:19Speaker 4: he refers to it at least once, which would be
- 11:22Speaker 4: a really unwielding and inconvenient weapon. I feel like I
- 11:26Speaker 4: went kind of.
- 11:28Speaker 3: Went off a little left there at the end. A
- 11:31Speaker 3: little bit.
- 11:31Speaker 4: I was just so irritated by that point in the movie.
- 11:36Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 11:37Speaker 5: Yeah, like, the only other big takeaway I had from
- 11:41Speaker 5: this movie was, like, does someone have, like, a puppet fetish?
- 11:45Speaker 5: Because there was so many, like, sexual.
- 11:47Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean, putting the.
- 11:50Speaker 5: thing in the butt to open up the portal and
- 11:53Speaker 5: then like at the end where the worm like jumps
- 11:56Speaker 5: into her mouth and she's like giving it a blowjob
- 11:58Speaker 5: and it's just like ugh.
- 11:59Speaker 4: She's giving a blowjob from the wrong end too. I
- 12:03Speaker 4: mean it was obvious what his face.
- 12:05Speaker 3: We all know we want to have puppet interactions and
- 12:08Speaker 3: we've thought about how to do it.
- 12:10Speaker 4: The point where the guy has to where Uncle Donnie
- 12:13Speaker 4: has to put the puppet on I'm sitting there and
- 12:15Speaker 4: thinking he's going to put his hand in there and
- 12:17Speaker 4: they're going to dub in a squishy noise. Ugh.
- 12:21Speaker 3: Everything about it they took themselves super seriously and like
- 12:25Speaker 3: thought that they were making a statement against you know
- 12:28Speaker 3: the politics in the world and i'm just like but
- 12:31Speaker 3: you're not you're not accomplishing anything because you undercut everything
- 12:34Speaker 3: with them falling down and doing stupid jokes and like
- 12:39Speaker 3: that's also what eventually became my biggest problem with this
- 12:42Speaker 3: too is like i feel like that's the difference between
- 12:46Speaker 3: the the comedy in these two like that first one
- 12:50Speaker 3: they didn't take themselves seriously like it was a send-up
- 12:52Speaker 3: of horror movies and within i mean they weren't winking
- 12:55Speaker 3: at the camera but they still you could tell tone
- 12:58Speaker 3: wise didn't take themselves seriously yeah this feels like they
- 13:02Speaker 3: took everything they were doing dead serious even though they're
- 13:07Speaker 3: trying to do comedy again i'm using quotations everything is
- 13:11Speaker 3: deadpan to the point of You think this is, like,
- 13:16Speaker 3: you're doing something important. Even though you're making a gross-out joke,
- 13:20Speaker 3: you think this is important because you're taking it so
- 13:23Speaker 3: seriously and you've put so much money into this puppet
- 13:26Speaker 3: that's saying this thing that, like, you think this is
- 13:29Speaker 3: a big deal. And, like, it's not even funny, let
- 13:33Speaker 3: alone is it important. So that became what's so insufferable
- 13:37Speaker 3: by the end of it, is, like, just how self-important
- 13:41Speaker 3: it felt that they... It just felt, and that's all
- 13:45Speaker 3: of these things coming together, it felt super indulgent.
- 13:49Speaker 5: But she says raunchy sex stuff too.
- 13:51Speaker 3: She says raunchy sex stuff. Which is hilarious.
- 13:55Speaker 4: That even her grandson's like, I don't want to hear this.
- 13:58Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 14:00Speaker 3: I love puppets.
- 14:01Speaker 4: I love robots. This movie had both of those and
- 14:03Speaker 4: I could not have cared less.
- 14:05Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah.
- 14:08Speaker 4: Don't make the mistake that I often make after hearing
- 14:11Speaker 4: stuff like this and think, well, it can't be that bad.
- 14:14Speaker 4: These guys are just, they've got a stick.
- 14:16Speaker 3: No, it's that bad. It's bad.
- 14:19Speaker 4: Please don't watch this movie.
- 14:20Speaker 3: Is it a long pike that we've got up our.
- 14:24Speaker 3: I guess. Or just a butter knife. It's just a
- 14:28Speaker 3: butter knife.
- 14:28Speaker 5: I would rather stick a knife in an electrical outlet
- 14:30Speaker 5: than watch this movie again.
- 14:34Speaker 3: That's pretty much where we landed with this one.
- 14:36Speaker 1: Thanks.
- 14:36Speaker 4: Thanks, Killing Three. You almost got me divorced.
- 14:39Speaker 3: Way to go. See, that's what's annoying is just trying
- 14:44Speaker 3: to convince people to come join the club and give
- 14:48Speaker 3: us like six cents. They gave you motherfuckers $ 100, 000 to
- 14:52Speaker 3: make this nonsense. Six cents is all I'm asking for.
- 14:59Speaker 2: So don't wait. Go to MovieMountain.com and click on the
- 15:01Speaker 2: Patreon link at the top of the page. Then you'll
- 15:03Speaker 2: give us one more thing to be thankful for, your support.
- 15:07Speaker 3: And gravy.
- 15:08Speaker 4: Come on, baby.
- 15:10Speaker 3: I need you.
