- 0:02Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett.
- 0:06Speaker 2: All right, well, you know one look up Alex has
- 0:09Speaker 2: sports news, has regular news, has breaking news, and who
- 0:14Speaker 2: do I turn to for the breaking breaking news of
- 0:17Speaker 2: on Terminelo's Take my goodness, lou you thought Edwin diazling
- 0:22Speaker 2: was bad. Now five years, one hundred thirty five million dollars,
- 0:28Speaker 2: Pete Alonzo goes to the Orioles. How is this met
- 0:32Speaker 2: fan feeling right now?
- 0:33Speaker 1: Louis, I feel pretty pissed off. That's really only way
- 0:40Speaker 1: to say it. I don't know what David Stern's boy
- 0:46Speaker 1: wonder is doing now. Is David Sterns Now we had
- 0:52Speaker 1: this big market team with with unlimited resources. Now, obviously,
- 1:00Speaker 1: if Stephen Cohen wanted to have Alonzo, he could have
- 1:04Speaker 1: just said get him signed at any court he could
- 1:06Speaker 1: have told Sterns. But is Sterns just trying to run
- 1:16Speaker 1: the Mets like a non major market to show how
- 1:19Speaker 1: smart he is. I don't think he's shown how smart
- 1:22Speaker 1: he is. I know that I don't know what they're
- 1:24Speaker 1: going to be doing down the road. But here's a
- 1:27Speaker 1: team that wants to wanted to win the World Series
- 1:29Speaker 1: in the first five years of ownership, that doesn't look
- 1:34Speaker 1: like that's gonna happen. I have no idea where they're
- 1:36Speaker 1: going with this, but they gave up the most dominant
- 1:40Speaker 1: or relief pitcher for a couple of million dollars. And
- 1:43Speaker 1: I think Sterns got caught with his pants down. I
- 1:46Speaker 1: didn't think he thought that Diaz was gonna sign with
- 1:48Speaker 1: the Dodgers so quickly, so I think he might have
- 1:54Speaker 1: been caught unawares that he didn't have a last second
- 1:57Speaker 1: shot at him, because apparently it was a three three
- 2:00Speaker 1: million dollar difference, three million dollars to the Mets. And
- 2:05Speaker 1: and Cohen is like us losing a quarter, you know,
- 2:09Speaker 1: on the New York subway tracks.
- 2:12Speaker 2: This is weird. So you have two markets here, Yankees,
- 2:17Speaker 2: and two teams are Yankees and Mets who have the checkbook.
- 2:21Speaker 2: But it's like they're not using it. They're refusing to
- 2:23Speaker 2: use it now in free agency. Yeah, well it is
- 2:25Speaker 2: a mind boggling.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Yeah, but again in history, the Yankees have used it
- 2:30Speaker 1: over and over and over and over. The Mets had
- 2:33Speaker 1: just gotten into this checkbook business that we thought and
- 2:36Speaker 1: they haven't. So everything that we thought that they were
- 2:39Speaker 1: going to get into being a checkbook baseball they are not.
- 2:44Speaker 1: They are not. They are not because Cohen could have said,
- 2:48Speaker 1: I want, I want Diez gets get them signed to
- 2:51Speaker 1: the old course, and especially Alonso. I mean, here's a guy.
- 2:55Speaker 1: I mean, the guy averages thirty nine home runs for
- 2:57Speaker 1: his last five years over for one hundred and fifteen
- 3:01Speaker 1: RBIs one hundred and fifty nine games. What's the old saying?
- 3:05Speaker 1: The best availability is the best ability? Excuse me? Is availability?
- 3:12Speaker 1: Well that's what he did. The best three Mets, Soto,
- 3:15Speaker 1: Lindor and Alonso play every game. They play one hundred
- 3:21Speaker 1: and fifty games plus. So I don't understand this.
- 3:29Speaker 2: And it leaves a gaping hole at first, in a sense,
- 3:31Speaker 2: I don't know what you do now, but I will
- 3:34Speaker 2: tell you. I tell you this shocker, I mean, And
- 3:39Speaker 2: we also saw Nemo go in a trade. So it's
- 3:41Speaker 2: all been a very odd last few weeks here for
- 3:44Speaker 2: the Mets, and it does make you wonder is blowing
- 3:48Speaker 2: up the team worth it? Like That's what I'm trying
- 3:49Speaker 2: to figure out right now. It doesn't seem worth it
- 3:51Speaker 2: right now, but who knows?
- 3:54Speaker 1: It doesn't. It's not worth it, you know, a five
- 3:58Speaker 1: year deal. There's no reason why the Mets couldn't give
- 4:00Speaker 1: him a five year deal. Apparently they start at seven. Okay,
- 4:05Speaker 1: he's thirty one years old and give him a seven
- 4:06Speaker 1: year deal. I got it. Maybe that's different, but you
- 4:10Speaker 1: can negotiate it down to five. And that's what he
- 4:12Speaker 1: signed with the Orioles. And uh, the same thing with Diaz.
- 4:21Speaker 1: I mean, I don't get it. I mean when it
- 4:23Speaker 1: when they obtained Devin Williams and signed Devin Williams as
- 4:27Speaker 1: a free agent, I said, oh, okay, they're gonna have
- 4:29Speaker 1: They're gonna have Devin Williams and they're going.
- 4:32Speaker 2: To have toosally on deferred payments. That was interesting too.
- 4:35Speaker 2: I did not know it the yep.
- 4:38Speaker 1: So uh, I mean as u as David Stearn's outsmart himself,
- 4:48Speaker 1: he thinks he's the smartest man in baseball. I don't
- 4:51Speaker 1: think he is.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Now, let's see from Pizza Pete's view. So you're going
- 4:56Speaker 2: in an Oriole team that, yeah, has pieces, but they
- 4:58Speaker 2: haven't really shine over the last couple of years. You know,
- 5:02Speaker 2: I think with Rutsman and Henderson and now Alonso, they
- 5:06Speaker 2: can be a force.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Well, what you said, Alex is correct, and it goes
- 5:11Speaker 1: back to everybody saying well, potential potential young team draft capital.
- 5:16Speaker 1: All this crap. Rushman has been Okay, he's had moments,
- 5:22Speaker 1: Henderson's had moments, Oliday hasn't, hasn't uh has had one
- 5:27Speaker 1: or two moments. But are these guys maybe next year's
- 5:30Speaker 1: they become consistent. Yes, they're young that they're finding their way,
- 5:34Speaker 1: but it's still potential. I'm very disappointed.
- 5:39Speaker 2: What I'm trying to say is one of the what
- 5:40Speaker 2: is Alonso seeing Baltimore?
- 5:42Speaker 1: Correct? I guess that's right, You're right Baltimore.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Yeah, uh huh, Because obviously he wants to go to
- 5:49Speaker 2: a team that's gonna win, so he obviously thinks they
- 5:52Speaker 2: could have something there. Well, we'll have to see.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Well, let's look at the division. He's in, the American
- 5:58Speaker 1: League champion Toronto Blue Jays, who came within one great
- 6:03Speaker 1: catch and left center field of winning the World Series
- 6:05Speaker 1: last year. It seems like the Red Sox are gonna
- 6:09Speaker 1: spend money. I actually thought Alonzo, if he didn't sign
- 6:11Speaker 1: with the Mets, was going to sign with the Red Sox.
- 6:17Speaker 2: By the way, this is another guy the Yankees let
- 6:19Speaker 2: go to a division rival. I mean, I remember when
- 6:20Speaker 2: eybody was crapping on Bregmant But how cool would have been,
- 6:23Speaker 2: how interest it would have been if the Yankee signed him.
- 6:26Speaker 2: He goes to Boston. I mean, all these guys were
- 6:28Speaker 2: going to division rivals, and I look at that as
- 6:32Speaker 2: Yanks used to have teeth with this, They used to
- 6:34Speaker 2: have teeth with the free agency.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Well, the Yankees used to be the check but the
- 6:38Speaker 1: team that perfected checkbook baseball. Let's face it. You know
- 6:41Speaker 1: everybody wants to crap on the Dodgers, and yes, the
- 6:43Speaker 1: Dodgers right now or what the Yankees used to be,
- 6:47Speaker 1: but don't don't. I mean, remember, the Yankees still have
- 6:49Speaker 1: the third highest payroll in Major League Baseball. But Alex,
- 6:52Speaker 1: the Dodgers, the Dodgers tax, the luxury tax on the
- 6:56Speaker 1: Dodgers is higher than the payroll of eighteen major league teams.
- 7:02Speaker 1: And because of that, and the Mets and Yankees have
- 7:06Speaker 1: luxury taxes too, I know that. But because of that, Alex,
- 7:10Speaker 1: I think you're going to see a lockout in Major
- 7:12Speaker 1: League Baseball in twenty twenty seven, which is going to
- 7:15Speaker 1: be a terrible thing for the sport, a terrible thing
- 7:18Speaker 1: for their fans.
- 7:19Speaker 2: And now I'm seeing Kyle Tucker and the Dodgers are talking.
- 7:22Speaker 2: I mean, this is getting out of control.
- 7:25Speaker 1: And I just got a text from somebody in the business.
- 7:31Speaker 1: Now again he's just text and nobody knows for sure,
- 7:34Speaker 1: but that they're talking to the Tigers about Struble. I mean, really,
- 7:40Speaker 1: isn't when there's enough enough.
- 7:43Speaker 2: That's that's a machine. That's not even a baseball team.
- 7:45Speaker 2: That's a machine right there. Now. Now the other thing is,
- 7:48Speaker 2: and I saw this today, like the Yanks could get
- 7:52Speaker 2: I love Austin mos I think Ben Rice is great,
- 7:55Speaker 2: but it looks like Ria Multo is on the market.
- 7:57Speaker 2: Why aren't the Yanks going after him? I mean the
- 8:00Speaker 2: Phillies and him are miles away on a deal. Look,
- 8:03Speaker 2: I didn't know real Malt was a free agent. You
- 8:05Speaker 2: go after the guy. I don't understand the thing. I'm
- 8:07Speaker 2: not going after some of these guys.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Well, they might, they might. They might be on some
- 8:11Speaker 1: of these guys that we don't even know about. Who knows.
- 8:15Speaker 1: There was a yesterday they were saying that the Padres
- 8:19Speaker 1: want to make a major trade and would make a
- 8:21Speaker 1: major trade with some of their key guys like Machado,
- 8:24Speaker 1: like Tattists Junior. Are the Mets going to be involved?
- 8:27Speaker 1: In something like that.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Now, Loue, I want to go back to the Mets
- 8:30Speaker 2: for a second, because these are by choice, they're leaving
- 8:34Speaker 2: this team. Okay, it's not like they're being traded away.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Correct.
- 8:38Speaker 2: So in addition to the money, I think Alonzo must
- 8:41Speaker 2: have looked at this and said, what a mess last
- 8:44Speaker 2: year was? In our twenty twenty two year when we
- 8:47Speaker 2: had one hundred and one wins, we didn't even get
- 8:49Speaker 2: out of the wild card. You know, see, there are
- 8:51Speaker 2: probably things in the back of these guys' minds that
- 8:53Speaker 2: are like, this team is actually a mess, and we
- 8:57Speaker 2: might find out more about that as things go along,
- 8:59Speaker 2: Like why did you leave the Mets? That's gonna be
- 9:01Speaker 2: the next question a Lonzo.
- 9:02Speaker 1: Yeah, No, that could be the Mets might have only
- 9:05Speaker 1: offered him three years because because David Stearns is one
- 9:09Speaker 1: of these sticklers on contracts. Let's face it, Alex, he
- 9:14Speaker 1: never liked Alonzo. He never liked Alonzo. He's into this
- 9:17Speaker 1: analytic run put up prevention nonsense. Yes, it's you gotta
- 9:23Speaker 1: have a good d you gotta uh have run prevention.
- 9:27Speaker 1: But you got the key game, the key uh uh Stanton.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Major League Baseball is getting on base and scoring runs.
- 9:36Speaker 1: You can have the best pitching staff, but if you
- 9:38Speaker 1: can't score, you can't score.
- 9:42Speaker 2: I mean, I remember last year it's the Orioles. Cedric
- 9:46Speaker 2: Mullen was supposed to be like a big help in
- 9:48Speaker 2: center field. You didn't really hit even for the Mets
- 9:51Speaker 2: during that time. Well, and that's what he is, you know,
- 9:54Speaker 2: that's what they need him before we just did not.
- 9:56Speaker 2: It's just is and.
- 9:58Speaker 1: That's why he signed a one year, seven million dollar
- 10:01Speaker 1: deal with Uh.
- 10:05Speaker 2: Well, you know a little bit more about this than
- 10:07Speaker 2: the whole week has meetings, right, so there could be
- 10:09Speaker 2: news down the pike for the next few days or
- 10:11Speaker 2: when does it all end?
- 10:13Speaker 1: And it could even well then it ends on I
- 10:15Speaker 1: believe on Thursday, Thursday night. But again, a lot of
- 10:18Speaker 1: things couldn't be irons in the fire, and it could
- 10:22Speaker 1: be an announcement next week, a trade next week, a
- 10:25Speaker 1: trade after the holidays intil January. Uh, you know, things
- 10:29Speaker 1: like that. Some things might be just getting started here,
- 10:33Speaker 1: but I can't. This is this is one of this
- 10:41Speaker 1: to me.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Out weighs everything going on in football right now because
- 10:45Speaker 2: we're watching a Met team that was taken over by
- 10:48Speaker 2: an owner that said he would spend spend spend out. Okay,
- 10:51Speaker 2: you spend on soda, we we get that. But then
- 10:54Speaker 2: I thought, you're gonna spend around him also, like, this
- 10:56Speaker 2: is what I'm trying to figure out.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I think I think losing a it really.
- 11:01Speaker 2: Is almost the twenty twenty twenty twenty five New York
- 11:05Speaker 2: story of the year, because yeah, I mean, it was
- 11:09Speaker 2: some interesting stuff, but this is your franchise leading home
- 11:12Speaker 2: run guy.
- 11:13Speaker 1: You lose him.
- 11:14Speaker 2: Okay, It's just it's the story of the year, right now.
- 11:16Speaker 2: Forget what the Giants and Jets are doing. This is
- 11:18Speaker 2: the story.
- 11:19Speaker 1: This is no story, right I would agree with you.
- 11:22Speaker 1: I would agree with you, Alex. I mean, let's face it,
- 11:25Speaker 1: the Jet. We'll get to the Giants and Jets in
- 11:26Speaker 1: the second. But you know, they're so far away from
- 11:29Speaker 1: being a positive relevance, you know. But a homegrown guy,
- 11:41Speaker 1: a guy who's been nothing but productive from day one,
- 11:46Speaker 1: Rookie of the year, but he finished, he finished in
- 11:49Speaker 1: the top two or three in the MVP a couple
- 11:51Speaker 1: of years ago. He wanted to be a met It's
- 12:02Speaker 1: just it's mind boggling to me.
- 12:03Speaker 2: And actually in the way Brandon Nimo also chose because
- 12:06Speaker 2: he waved his no trade clause and I talked about
- 12:07Speaker 2: that in another show. I mean, there are pieces here
- 12:11Speaker 2: that alarm me as a baseball as a New York
- 12:17Speaker 2: baseball fan. Hey, there could be things internally wrong with
- 12:21Speaker 2: and I guess Soto shook things up with the personalities
- 12:24Speaker 2: in the clubhouse. And you know, Iglacias kind of kept
- 12:27Speaker 2: that clubhouse together in twenty four. I think he was
- 12:30Speaker 2: really the catalyst for why they had that comeback year.
- 12:32Speaker 2: And it is a Mendo's managing style. But now you're
- 12:36Speaker 2: looking like, oh my god, what kind of chaos has
- 12:39Speaker 2: rained in that clubhouse for your guys Edwin Diaz, Alonso
- 12:43Speaker 2: and Nimo to choose to leave, Like there's gonna be
- 12:46Speaker 2: there's gonna be a study on this, because this is
- 12:48Speaker 2: not normal to me. It's not normal to break up
- 12:50Speaker 2: a team like this. Well, in New York, we don't
- 12:53Speaker 2: see it that often.
- 12:54Speaker 1: If the Mets had offered Alonzo one hundred and fifty
- 12:57Speaker 1: five million, and they probably only offered him but maybe
- 13:02Speaker 1: one hundred, he'd be met today. It all comes It
- 13:05Speaker 1: all comes down the money.
- 13:06Speaker 2: And thirty one years old is still not old. Maybe
- 13:08Speaker 2: that's what certain thing too.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Was like, but it's not he's not old that You're
- 13:12Speaker 1: exactly right, and there's no to me, there's no defending
- 13:18Speaker 1: the moves of the last two days, Nimo. Okay, if
- 13:21Speaker 1: you want to trade him, I want to have to
- 13:23Speaker 1: trade him for Marcus Simeon. He's still a plus run
- 13:29Speaker 1: prevention glove, okay, but he's had two subpar years offensively
- 13:35Speaker 1: and might be on the other side of hill offensively.
- 13:38Speaker 1: He's thirty five years old, and.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Now on the other side. We're going to see how
- 13:43Speaker 2: much we have to see At some point if the
- 13:46Speaker 2: Yanks made offer sending these guys, you would think that's
- 13:48Speaker 2: gonna come out too right, Like, okay, how much of
- 13:51Speaker 2: the Yankees offer because it's Peter a Lonzo and a
- 13:54Speaker 2: lot of people thought they were in the running to
- 13:55Speaker 2: get him, you know, So I wonder what he got
- 13:57Speaker 2: offered from the Yankees. I'm gonna wonder that.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Yeah, I would say that the Yankees did not offer
- 14:02Speaker 1: I'm just it's just a wild guess that that the
- 14:04Speaker 1: Yankees didn't offer Alonso anything. Probably just had a an
- 14:10Speaker 1: obligatoratory talk with his maybe just with uh with Boris.
- 14:17Speaker 1: But again, is David Sterns trying to show that, hey,
- 14:21Speaker 1: I can put together a winning team and not break
- 14:24Speaker 1: the budget. I don't know. I mean, the Mets did
- 14:27Speaker 1: have the highest of the second highest pay payroll in
- 14:31Speaker 1: baseball this year, the Yankees the third, the Phillies the fourth,
- 14:34Speaker 1: the J's and then the Padres. But I don't get this.
- 14:40Speaker 1: I mean, yes, let's wait to see until everything's over.
- 14:43Speaker 1: But this is second the Mets have Now. The Mets
- 14:49Speaker 1: have more holes to fill now than ever because the
- 14:55Speaker 1: three guys they got rid of all were still in
- 14:59Speaker 1: play at the.
- 14:59Speaker 2: Time Opera their game, and you wonder if they're gonna
- 15:04Speaker 2: look minor league. So we're gonna be a first baseman, Like,
- 15:06Speaker 2: I don't know what they're gonna do next. So it's
- 15:08Speaker 2: very it's all very odd. All right, let's sitch gears
- 15:13Speaker 2: for a minute, because I just saw Jalen Brunton on
- 15:15Speaker 2: the screen, and that's another odd thing that I know.
- 15:18Speaker 2: You love to talk about the NBA Cup. Hey, they're
- 15:21Speaker 2: going out in the semifinals of the NBA Cup again,
- 15:23Speaker 2: Blue House.
- 15:24Speaker 1: How cool is that?
- 15:25Speaker 2: Im? It's all this chaos with the Mets. Another blue
- 15:27Speaker 2: and orange team that's also the Islanders. By the way,
- 15:30Speaker 2: are doing well in New York. So we could talk
- 15:31Speaker 2: about that for a min on both fronts, the Nicks
- 15:34Speaker 2: and the Islanders. Here say in the Blue and Orange
- 15:36Speaker 2: for a minute.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Well, the Blue and Orange are doing very well. They
- 15:41Speaker 1: have to get to the NBA Finals to have a
- 15:42Speaker 1: successful season, even if they lose four straight to Oklahoma
- 15:46Speaker 1: City or Denver. But anything short of that will be
- 15:49Speaker 1: a will be h more than a disappointment. The NBA Cup,
- 15:54Speaker 1: as you know, as I've said in the past on
- 15:56Speaker 1: air and off air, is nonsense. I didn't watch one
- 16:00Speaker 1: second of either NBA Cup camp on this night. You know,
- 16:04Speaker 1: they're trying to make something out of out of nothing,
- 16:08Speaker 1: trying to to uh.
- 16:10Speaker 2: Disperse it into like as I said last year, it's
- 16:13Speaker 2: like or what what game is? This is a Cup
- 16:16Speaker 2: game or a regular game? Like it's like very weird,
- 16:18Speaker 2: how interspersed?
- 16:19Speaker 1: This is very well, again, a very good point, Alex.
- 16:23Speaker 1: If they wanted to do this, and we I think
- 16:25Speaker 1: we talked about this last year, it should be like
- 16:28Speaker 1: you said, like we most people don't even know that
- 16:30Speaker 1: was a Cup game last night. Uh, but uh, if
- 16:38Speaker 1: they had done it, like say, over a two and
- 16:39Speaker 1: a half week period, have it Cup from the Cup,
- 16:44Speaker 1: from the first game to the to the final, all
- 16:48Speaker 1: into uh, consecutive games like that A real tournament like
- 16:55Speaker 1: the NCAA tournament, that might be something that you get
- 16:59Speaker 1: you can get into for that two and a half
- 17:01Speaker 1: weeks in the middle of a you know, a useless
- 17:03Speaker 1: NBA regular season. And uh, but like you said, I
- 17:12Speaker 1: didn't know that last night was it was a cup
- 17:15Speaker 1: game until yesterday afternoon when they said tonight was a
- 17:18Speaker 1: Cup game. And I guess tonight is the Western Conference
- 17:21Speaker 1: Cup quarter finals. But again it means nothing. I mean,
- 17:26Speaker 1: the Milwaukee Bucks won it last year, and I guess
- 17:29Speaker 1: the Lakers wanted a year before.
- 17:30Speaker 2: By the way, can I can I piss you off
- 17:32Speaker 2: a little more because we have some breaking news here
- 17:35Speaker 2: according to sources the Mets. According to Joel Sherman, actually
- 17:40Speaker 2: the Mets never made an offer as it became clear
- 17:44Speaker 2: to them that Alonso was getting bids for more dollars
- 17:47Speaker 2: and years and they're more than in their comfort zone.
- 17:50Speaker 2: So they never made an offer to their franchise leading
- 17:53Speaker 2: home run guy.
- 17:55Speaker 1: So that goes to show you that that Sterns who
- 18:01Speaker 1: never liked Alonzo because he didn't fit into his his
- 18:04Speaker 1: analytic construction of a roster. Never wanted him, and he
- 18:11Speaker 1: convinced Stephen Cohen that that was the way to go.
- 18:17Speaker 1: I mean, the only reason he signed that one year
- 18:19Speaker 1: extension last year was because of Stephen Cohen. So everybody
- 18:25Speaker 1: wanted David Sterns here, Remember that, everybody. And I'm not
- 18:28Speaker 1: calling him to be fired like people are now. No,
- 18:30Speaker 1: I'm not calling him to be fired. But everybody wanted
- 18:32Speaker 1: David Sterns here.
- 18:34Speaker 2: After offer Pete to Pete here, he'sn't even make an
- 18:38Speaker 2: offer to Pete Alonzo. This is crazy.
- 18:41Speaker 1: Yeah, it's uh, it is mind boggling. Every MET fans
- 18:46Speaker 1: should be upset like I am. I'm getting texts from
- 18:50Speaker 1: a lot of my MET friends and relatives who are
- 18:53Speaker 1: not happy. Uh so, so here here they got a guy.
- 18:58Speaker 1: Uh all right, Alonso two hundred and sixty four live
- 19:02Speaker 1: time home runs. Uh Diaz had one hundred and forty
- 19:05Speaker 1: four stags crew with the Mets. Nimo scored almost six
- 19:08Speaker 1: hundred runs in his crew with the Mets. You tell me, Alex,
- 19:12Speaker 1: where are they replacing this kind of production? Where are
- 19:17Speaker 1: they going to replace this kind of production and be
- 19:19Speaker 1: a contender in twenty twenty six.
- 19:23Speaker 3: Yeah, because I mean, the way things stand right now, Louis,
- 19:26Speaker 3: and uh, this is Ryan with you now. The way
- 19:28Speaker 3: things stand right now, it's almost like you're just rewatching
- 19:33Speaker 3: Moneyball in real time. And absolutely especially losing two fan
- 19:39Speaker 3: favorites in the span of twenty four hours. It's just
- 19:42Speaker 3: such a huge blow. And as a die heard met fan,
- 19:46Speaker 3: I'm still trying to put coherent thoughts together. Right, Yeah,
- 19:50Speaker 3: you gonna did this actually have mental to the Orioles,
- 19:54Speaker 3: But it almost felt sort of destined that all we
- 19:57Speaker 3: heard from Alonzo's campus offseas and was him meeting with
- 20:01Speaker 3: the Red Sox, him meeting with the Orioles. You've heard
- 20:04Speaker 3: an aria peep about him meeting with the Mets, and
- 20:09Speaker 3: it almost just felt at this point that he was
- 20:11Speaker 3: destined to do what Dallas Strawberry did thirty five years
- 20:15Speaker 3: ago and leave the only team he had ever known
- 20:17Speaker 3: by this point as the franchise's home run leader. But
- 20:22Speaker 3: I'd say the worst part about this loop you don't
- 20:25Speaker 3: even know what they're gonna do from here, because yes,
- 20:28Speaker 3: Kyle Tucker and Cody Bellinger, they're still free agents, they're
- 20:32Speaker 3: still fair game at this point, but it's like, can
- 20:36Speaker 3: you trust David Stearns and Steve Cohen to do right
- 20:39Speaker 3: by the fans and bring one one, oh of if
- 20:43Speaker 3: not both of them in. You just don't really have
- 20:45Speaker 3: much confidence in them to do that right now. And
- 20:48Speaker 3: I think that's definitely the part that stings. It's not
- 20:50Speaker 3: just the fan favorites, but you don't know where they
- 20:52Speaker 3: go from here.
- 20:53Speaker 1: That's correct? Do you trust? Do you trust Stearns? And
- 20:56Speaker 1: I don't know if you were in the uh in
- 20:58Speaker 1: the room when I said to Alex a couple of
- 21:00Speaker 1: minutes ago, remember when Stearns had that he was still
- 21:04Speaker 1: on the contract with the Brewers, but he basically retired
- 21:07Speaker 1: from them or he left them and the Mets couldn't
- 21:10Speaker 1: sign him until his contract went out with the Brewers. Oh, everybody,
- 21:14Speaker 1: we gotta get Sterns. He's the guy. He's the guy.
- 21:16Speaker 1: He's the guy. I don't know if he's the guy.
- 21:19Speaker 1: I'm not saying he deserves to be fine. I am
- 21:21Speaker 1: not going there no way until everything is done. But
- 21:28Speaker 1: do I trust him? No? I did?
- 21:31Speaker 3: I mean, I'm feeling exactly the same way there. I
- 21:33Speaker 3: just have to see what his plan B was. And
- 21:36Speaker 3: that was actually what I was telling you off the
- 21:38Speaker 3: air yesterday as well, Lou after they lost Diez to
- 21:42Speaker 3: the Dodgers. I need to see what this guy's plan
- 21:46Speaker 3: be is gonna be. I mean, he's still one of
- 21:48Speaker 3: the better gms in the game, I'd say, but it's
- 21:51Speaker 3: just becoming so much more clear that, Okay, maybe Sterns
- 21:57Speaker 3: may not be the right guy for what Steve Cohen.
- 21:59Speaker 1: We may not, Brian. I don't mean to cut you off.
- 22:01Speaker 1: He may not be the right guy for a big
- 22:03Speaker 1: market team. He might want to show that he's the
- 22:05Speaker 1: smartest man in baseball and I can construct analytic roster
- 22:12Speaker 1: that's going to win ninety five games and is going
- 22:15Speaker 1: to contend for the World Series. And uh, he doesn't
- 22:18Speaker 1: want to be a checkbook general manager. Oh okay, Sterns.
- 22:22Speaker 1: When he got to New York, you're able to just
- 22:24Speaker 1: write a check. I don't know. Maybe that's how he feels.
- 22:30Speaker 1: If he feels that way. Go manage in Pittsburgh, Go
- 22:33Speaker 1: manage and camp.
- 22:35Speaker 2: Here's the best part for both you because you're both
- 22:37Speaker 2: that hard met fans, and I think you have some
- 22:40Speaker 2: packages with them as ticket back Yeah, season tickets.
- 22:43Speaker 1: But this doesn't make you like.
- 22:44Speaker 2: Say, Okay, I'm never gonna renew. Like, no matter what
- 22:47Speaker 2: complains are about the both these teams, Dariances are going
- 22:49Speaker 2: to be in the seats on opening Day. There's no
- 22:50Speaker 2: doubt about it. That's not what we love this game,
- 22:52Speaker 2: and that's why it's.
- 22:53Speaker 1: So fran Well, the thing is Alex, Yeah, Alex. As
- 22:58Speaker 1: sports fans, we're addicted. I mean, we'll jump to another
- 23:04Speaker 1: franchise in this town that made a trade a month
- 23:07Speaker 1: ago after re signing, making this player the highest paid
- 23:12Speaker 1: cornerback in the NFL, Sauce Gardner. Now the team is
- 23:17Speaker 1: playing terrible, so the Colts come to them and they
- 23:24Speaker 1: decide to trade one of the best cornerbacks in the
- 23:27Speaker 1: league to the Colts for a couple of draft picks. Oh,
- 23:32Speaker 1: that's all well and good draft capital. And I think
- 23:34Speaker 1: draft capital is way overrated. That's me. That's just me.
- 23:37Speaker 1: I'm not saying you should go in the draft with
- 23:40Speaker 1: three draft picks, but I think draft capital is overrated.
- 23:43Speaker 1: Just like Ryan said a couple of minutes ago, do
- 23:45Speaker 1: we trust Stearns with what's going for the future. And
- 23:50Speaker 1: by the future, it could be as early as tomorrow
- 23:52Speaker 1: with a trade or of signing of a free agent.
- 23:56Speaker 1: Do you trust Aaron Glenn and Moujie to make those
- 24:01Speaker 1: draft picks that the that the Jets are gonna have,
- 24:04Speaker 1: and they're gonna be high draft picks because the colt
- 24:06Speaker 1: Tron can win. The coult Tron is gonna win many
- 24:08Speaker 1: games the rest of the way with that quarterback situation
- 24:11Speaker 1: in a toilet. So these are guys, these are proven guys.
- 24:20Speaker 2: And the city there's another town in this there's another
- 24:27Speaker 2: team in this town trading away everybody. I mean, have
- 24:30Speaker 2: the Rangers attendants dipped since they made all these incredible,
- 24:33Speaker 2: egregious trades, like especially the Criders stub letting him go.
- 24:37Speaker 2: I mean, I think they're still filling the seat of
- 24:40Speaker 2: the garden because they're the Rangers. But the fact is
- 24:42Speaker 2: we're watching like this whole dismantling of all these teams.
- 24:47Speaker 2: It's very odd.
- 24:47Speaker 1: I I don't remember a.
- 24:48Speaker 2: Time like this, Lily, where we're seeing dismantling all these
- 24:51Speaker 2: these teams. Hell, even the Knicks fire their head coach
- 24:53Speaker 2: who got them to the playoffs multiple years in a.
- 24:56Speaker 1: Row, which was shocking. When when that they fired them,
- 25:00Speaker 1: what they fired Thibodeau. Yeah, I mean, this is this
- 25:06Speaker 1: is a crazy day. What what's happened? That news we
- 25:09Speaker 1: got thirty minutes ago is not about I want to
- 25:13Speaker 1: get back to this point of staying power. And I
- 25:15Speaker 1: know I said this on the podcast, but I shared
- 25:17Speaker 1: with you both. This just goes to show New York
- 25:21Speaker 1: does not have the staying power it used to. Okay,
- 25:23Speaker 1: Aaron Judge signed nine years with the Yankees, but in general,
- 25:28Speaker 1: we saw Pridorway was no clause. We saw Nemo, We've
- 25:32Speaker 1: seen now Alonzo choose another team.
- 25:34Speaker 2: There's no staying power in New York. What's gonna take
- 25:37Speaker 2: to get us back to be that ferocious city that wins,
- 25:41Speaker 2: that players want to play for, and that opponents are
- 25:45Speaker 2: afraid to come into faces. I remember there were times
- 25:47Speaker 2: when you know, John Rocker hated in Shay Stadium because
- 25:50Speaker 2: we were so like, everything's so different now. I kind
- 25:54Speaker 2: of missed the days we were a ferocious city. No
- 25:55Speaker 2: one wanted to come and play here, you know, against US.
- 25:58Speaker 1: I should say, yeah, know you you make a good point.
- 26:04Speaker 1: You know. I had a feeling this was gonna happen
- 26:06Speaker 1: with Alonzo. I did not think they were not going
- 26:09Speaker 1: to re sign Diaz, and I think guy that they
- 26:13Speaker 1: might have been called a little bit, like I said,
- 26:15Speaker 1: with their pants down.
- 26:17Speaker 2: Now you talk about a guy who had and I
- 26:19Speaker 2: want to switch because you mentioned the Colts to talking
- 26:20Speaker 2: about a guy that did have a bad We're trying
- 26:22Speaker 2: to do rapid fire here amidst the breaking news. Daniel Jones,
- 26:27Speaker 2: you know, resurgence after the terrible Giants here last year.
- 26:31Speaker 2: Now he's out, and by the way, the Colts are
- 26:33Speaker 2: really struggling, and that, to me is is really something else.
- 26:37Speaker 2: All three quarterbacks are down to the point of signing
- 26:40Speaker 2: Philip Rivers. But you gotta feel bad for Daniel Jones.
- 26:42Speaker 2: I mean, he was having a resurgence with Indianapolis.
- 26:45Speaker 1: I feel horrible for Daniel Jones. He was doing the
- 26:47Speaker 1: great job. The Colts have a good roster, but the
- 26:51Speaker 1: most important position, as we know, it's quarterback. And uh
- 26:56Speaker 1: I saw the injury the other day and I knew
- 26:58Speaker 1: right away when it when he happened, that he was done.
- 27:04Speaker 1: And the bad thing for the young man is he's
- 27:07Speaker 1: a free agent. It's not like he has the cushion
- 27:11Speaker 1: of three years at thirty five million dollars. He has
- 27:15Speaker 1: to recover, prove that he's that his achilles is healthy.
- 27:18Speaker 1: And as we saw at Aaron Rodgers. Even though Aaron
- 27:20Speaker 1: Rodgers did a better job than the New York media
- 27:24Speaker 1: will give him credit for last year, it takes a
- 27:26Speaker 1: full year to recover from that achilles even when you're
- 27:30Speaker 1: playing now. He's much younger than Aaron Rodgers, so he'll
- 27:33Speaker 1: that that will play a factor.
- 27:35Speaker 2: Guys, remember when Rodgers beat the Bears when he was
- 27:37Speaker 2: Blackers on one leg. I'll never forget that game. He
- 27:40Speaker 2: injured himself, comes back down in on one leg, he
- 27:42Speaker 2: beats the Bears. There was just quite a performance to watch.
- 27:46Speaker 1: I do remember. And yeah, so but the Colt I
- 27:50Speaker 1: don't I don't think the Colts. They may not win
- 27:52Speaker 1: another game. I mean, the Colts haves this Sunday at Seattle.
- 27:56Speaker 1: I can't see them winning.
- 27:58Speaker 2: Well, my friends, why would they sign Rivers? He's old,
- 28:01Speaker 2: I said, because they're desperate and they're almost out of
- 28:03Speaker 2: the playoffs. You gotta salvage something here.
- 28:05Speaker 3: What other options they have?
- 28:06Speaker 1: Though, Well, Ryan, that's it. Look at the quarterback play
- 28:10Speaker 1: in the NFL. Let's be let's be real. The quarterback
- 28:14Speaker 1: play in the NFL, with the exception of those Super
- 28:17Speaker 1: Blue Chippers Mahomes, Alan Burrow Stafford. Okay, then you have
- 28:25Speaker 1: the Blue Chippers, the jack you know, Jackson, Lamar, Jackson, Herbert.
- 28:33Speaker 1: But there's not many more. I mean, first of all,
- 28:37Speaker 1: nobody made a bigger quarterback mistake this year than the
- 28:41Speaker 1: Minnesota Vikings. They made. They made the hugest mistake. They
- 28:46Speaker 1: got a playoff roster and they let both Darnold who
- 28:50Speaker 1: they should have resigned, and and Daniel Jones on their roster.
- 28:54Speaker 1: For JJ McCarthy, who's a rookie, I don't know how
- 28:57Speaker 1: he's gonna be, but right now he's not very good
- 29:00Speaker 1: good And we've seen that with a lot of these teams.
- 29:02Speaker 1: The quarterback play is not good. So where do you go?
- 29:07Speaker 1: Where do you go? So Philip Rivers, who's forty four
- 29:12Speaker 1: years old, hasn't played in the league in five years.
- 29:16Speaker 1: It's a literal trampon. Now, mind you either he has
- 29:19Speaker 1: a one year old grand he has a one year
- 29:22Speaker 1: old grandson, and he has a two year old son.
- 29:26Speaker 1: So his grandson, his uncle is one year older than him.
- 29:32Speaker 2: Wild I'm my own grandpa. Very No, it's it's it's
- 29:37Speaker 2: quite insane. And by the way, uh and you.
- 29:40Speaker 1: Know, I'm sorry, Alex, you know that Philip Rivers is
- 29:43Speaker 1: the semi finalist for the Hall of Fame this year,
- 29:46Speaker 1: and if he comes off the practice squad and is activated,
- 29:52Speaker 1: he has to wait another five years for Hall of Fame.
- 29:57Speaker 2: But I still say, and you know what, I also
- 29:59Speaker 2: think River was built a really rough hand when he
- 30:01Speaker 2: was in that trade. I mean, he had some weapons
- 30:04Speaker 2: as a charger quarterback. But the Giants still made out
- 30:08Speaker 2: really damn good with that trade. And that really is
- 30:10Speaker 2: is I'll never forget that date when, of course he made.
- 30:13Speaker 1: The We're not we're not talking about this, that's not
- 30:15Speaker 1: what we're talking aout. We're talking about the Colts quarterback problems. Yeah,
- 30:20Speaker 1: now that that was that was a good trade. That
- 30:21Speaker 1: that demanding family manipulated, you know, that's what they did.
- 30:27Speaker 1: They did.
- 30:28Speaker 2: Maybe maybe this is River's chance to get a ring.
- 30:30Speaker 2: I don't know, I don't I don't know.
- 30:32Speaker 1: No, he has no chance, no chance.
- 30:35Speaker 3: And then didn't you say something with how fast the
- 30:37Speaker 3: Colts have fallen in such little time, going from seven
- 30:40Speaker 3: to one to what he did five and thirty?
- 30:42Speaker 2: Yes, division, And I think he said louis one of
- 30:45Speaker 2: his kids that's younger than Tyler Warren or something by
- 30:47Speaker 2: a year old.
- 30:48Speaker 1: Oh yeah, his oldest kid. His daughter who's twenty three,
- 30:53Speaker 1: is older than Tyler Warren or in the tie end
- 30:56Speaker 1: from Penn State. Who's who's had a good year for
- 31:00Speaker 1: the Colts.
- 31:01Speaker 2: All right, college, Well, we gotta talk about the Burrow,
- 31:04Speaker 2: but don't go to college football real fast.
- 31:06Speaker 1: But the Burrow.
- 31:08Speaker 2: Allen game I thought was gonna be the game of
- 31:10Speaker 2: the week until from Monday night happened and that to
- 31:13Speaker 2: me was the game of the week, the Monday night game,
- 31:15Speaker 2: which is rare because that was Monday night games.
- 31:18Speaker 1: There were two different type of games.
- 31:21Speaker 2: The game was really fun to watch.
- 31:23Speaker 1: I have to say, right he saw a quarterback excellence
- 31:26Speaker 1: in the snow game. The Buffalo and Cincinnati game on
- 31:30Speaker 1: on Sunday Monday Night, you saw a different type of game.
- 31:36Speaker 1: You saw a I don't know how Justin Herbert played
- 31:38Speaker 1: that game with that contraption on his on his hand,
- 31:41Speaker 1: I really don't. He really showed a lot of courage
- 31:45Speaker 1: and guts. And as far as Jalen Hurts goes, he's
- 31:49Speaker 1: taking a step back. He's not having a good year. Obviously,
- 31:53Speaker 1: the Eagles offensive line is not the same as it
- 31:55Speaker 1: was last year. The Eagles. I can't again. Can the
- 32:01Speaker 1: Eagles win a Super Bowl? They have enough talent to
- 32:03Speaker 1: win Super Bowl. They can pull it together. But this
- 32:06Speaker 1: looks scaringly similar to the end of the twenty three
- 32:09Speaker 1: season when the Eagles started ten to one and I
- 32:13Speaker 1: think they lost five out of the last six and
- 32:15Speaker 1: then lost the first round playoff game. This is almost
- 32:18Speaker 1: like the same pattern as that goes. So they got
- 32:26Speaker 1: the Cowboys.
- 32:27Speaker 2: I can't believe I'm saying this, guys. The Cowboys have
- 32:28Speaker 2: a chance to win the division now, which I didn't
- 32:31Speaker 2: think was possible because they were in disarrayed losing Mica
- 32:33Speaker 2: and all that.
- 32:34Speaker 1: Well they've done. The Cowboys have done a very good job,
- 32:37Speaker 1: and Schottenheimer has done a good job. But the Eagles
- 32:39Speaker 1: got this division. If the Eagles don't win this division,
- 32:43Speaker 1: then something really is wrong inside that Eagles locker room.
- 32:48Speaker 1: Because the Eagles have the Commanders twice, they have the
- 32:52Speaker 1: Raiders at home this week. Their only tough game in
- 32:55Speaker 1: the last month is at Buffalo the next to last
- 32:59Speaker 1: week of the season. If the Eagles lose to the Commanders,
- 33:02Speaker 1: they should win both of those games and to the
- 33:04Speaker 1: Raiders at home. Sirianne might be on the hot.
- 33:07Speaker 2: Seat after winning the Super Bowl last year? How funny
- 33:10Speaker 2: would that from?
- 33:12Speaker 1: Uh?
- 33:12Speaker 2: And they're that jealous one the six seven Chiefs. I mean,
- 33:17Speaker 2: my goodness, talking about a team that was up at
- 33:19Speaker 2: the top at the of AFC champion last year. We've
- 33:23Speaker 2: talked about the injury. I mean, there's there's no doubt
- 33:25Speaker 2: that injury repletive harm. But what's going on? Like six.
- 33:31Speaker 1: Guys, you gotta we gotta look at it this way.
- 33:34Speaker 1: They've won the division nine years in a row. They've
- 33:36Speaker 1: been they have been the standard of NFL excellence for
- 33:39Speaker 1: a decade. Everything's not gonna go your way. They're six
- 33:44Speaker 1: and seven. Uh they they I think they still have
- 33:48Speaker 1: a chance. They gotta win the rest of their games,
- 33:52Speaker 1: you know, but sometimes things just don't go the way.
- 33:57Speaker 1: Uh uh. You know, you figured, even great coaches like
- 34:02Speaker 1: Andy Reid. If you watch the game on Sunday night,
- 34:05Speaker 1: in the second half, the Kansas City defense was just
- 34:12Speaker 1: stoning the Houston offense. And it's ten ten in the
- 34:15Speaker 1: fourth quarter on fourth and one from your own thirty
- 34:18Speaker 1: or thirty one yard line, they decide to go for
- 34:21Speaker 1: it and don't get it, and then they get the
- 34:23Speaker 1: and that leads to Houston starting at the thirty yard line,
- 34:26Speaker 1: getting their touchdown to go at seventeen to ten. Then
- 34:29Speaker 1: he did it again on the next possession and they
- 34:32Speaker 1: got the field goal which made it twenty to ten.
- 34:34Speaker 1: Houston did so.
- 34:36Speaker 2: They'll never let him go, But I would love to
- 34:37Speaker 2: have ship bag Nolo back on the Giants. He's a
- 34:40Speaker 2: Hall of Fame defensive coordinator.
- 34:42Speaker 1: I would say he's a Hall of Fame defensive coordinator.
- 34:44Speaker 1: I would, yeah, I agree.
- 34:47Speaker 2: I mean what he did with the Giants those two
- 34:52Speaker 2: times and then of course with the Chiefs is just
- 34:54Speaker 2: almost unparalleled. I don't know have another defensive coordinator to
- 34:57Speaker 2: be able to do that.
- 34:58Speaker 1: Yeah, not even I don't even think Belichick has done
- 35:01Speaker 1: that as a defensive coordinator. Probably No.
- 35:05Speaker 2: Well, it'll be an interesting rest of the way here
- 35:07Speaker 2: the next couple of weeks. I really am not looking
- 35:09Speaker 2: forward to the Giants off there by week. I just said,
- 35:12Speaker 2: I thought, maybe I'll root for them to cheer. Like
- 35:15Speaker 2: you know, if you're the interim coach, you might have
- 35:17Speaker 2: been on the way out, but just act like you
- 35:19Speaker 2: want the job next year. Just coach hard. I don't
- 35:22Speaker 2: care what the record.
- 35:23Speaker 1: Well, I think he's coaching hard, Alex. I think he's
- 35:26Speaker 1: coaching hard.
- 35:27Speaker 2: So I want to see a little more effort the
- 35:29Speaker 2: rest of the way here from the Giants.
- 35:31Speaker 1: I don't know what to expect. Well, as a Jets fan,
- 35:33Speaker 1: I never root for my teams to lose, but I've
- 35:37Speaker 1: never I never root for my teams to lose, But
- 35:39Speaker 1: it would benefit the Jets if they lose the rest
- 35:42Speaker 1: of their games, because they need they need to pick
- 35:47Speaker 1: to be as close to number one as possible, and
- 35:50Speaker 1: the Colts are not going to win many games. Remember,
- 35:53Speaker 1: the Jets have the Colts picked right now. The Colts
- 35:56Speaker 1: pick is eighteen. And if the Colts remaining schedule very
- 36:01Speaker 1: difficult this week at Seattle forty nine ers at home,
- 36:05Speaker 1: Jacksonville at home at Houston, they might lose three or
- 36:09Speaker 1: four of those last four, maybe all four, depending on
- 36:12Speaker 1: their quarterback play or lack of quarterback play, and the
- 36:17Speaker 1: Jets might have the second or the third and the
- 36:20Speaker 1: twelfth pick.
- 36:23Speaker 2: All right, Well, we'll get into that as we go along.
- 36:26Speaker 2: I want to wrap up with two different topics because
- 36:28Speaker 2: I Mentionedlue, I went, I went the Islands in a minute,
- 36:31Speaker 2: but the whole college football playoff, I mean, is it
- 36:35Speaker 2: the stinging fact that James Madison University in Tulane two
- 36:38Speaker 2: no names really in this college football world? Make it
- 36:42Speaker 2: over Notre Dame that's stinging or do you? I mean,
- 36:46Speaker 2: the idea of the ACC shouldn't advocate for their own
- 36:48Speaker 2: team to make the playoffs is absurd.
- 36:50Speaker 1: I don't know what Notre Dame is thinking, saying that because.
- 36:53Speaker 2: You're not in the conference, you choose not to be
- 36:55Speaker 2: in the conference.
- 36:56Speaker 1: Also, by the way.
- 36:57Speaker 2: So don't blame them for going with the guys there
- 37:00Speaker 2: in the conference. Like, That's where I stand and I'm
- 37:01Speaker 2: gonna of it.
- 37:02Speaker 1: Damon Fann saying this, Well, yeah, no, I'm I'm not
- 37:06Speaker 1: the No Dame fan I was growing up, but I
- 37:08Speaker 1: like to see No Dame do well. I think No
- 37:12Speaker 1: Dame totally is wrong. Uh you know, Bavaqua, the AD
- 37:17Speaker 1: is complaining about it. Yes, and according to the way
- 37:22Speaker 1: they have the rankings, they want they want to give
- 37:25Speaker 1: the group of four teams, if they finish in a
- 37:27Speaker 1: certain a certain level, a chance to play. And that's
- 37:31Speaker 1: why James Mason, who's going to get Who's gonna lose?
- 37:34Speaker 1: That Oregon there twenty point underdogs even though they you know,
- 37:39Speaker 1: they've had a terrific season and they've only been in
- 37:43Speaker 1: I think in uh they were in the FCS. They've
- 37:46Speaker 1: only been in the FBS. I think this is their
- 37:48Speaker 1: third year. So they've done a magnificent job. So them
- 37:51Speaker 1: just getting to Oregon is a big deal for them.
- 37:54Speaker 1: Uh Tulane. Uh Tulane. Well, I think they'll give almost
- 38:00Speaker 1: a little bit of trouble, but almost unless almost head
- 38:04Speaker 1: is not into it. Because of the Kiffin situation that
- 38:07Speaker 1: he's gone, they're not you know, they're gonna, they're gonna.
- 38:10Speaker 1: They are probably seventeen point on the dogs at all miss.
- 38:13Speaker 1: But that that's the way it was set up. Now
- 38:16Speaker 1: next year it's different than this year. Notre Dame, you know,
- 38:20Speaker 1: because No. Dame always has to get their way if
- 38:24Speaker 1: they're in the top twelve, no matter what else is
- 38:28Speaker 1: going on, even if a JMU or a TWU Lane
- 38:32Speaker 1: or a Navy or one of the you know, a
- 38:36Speaker 1: Memphis who's not in a in a group of five,
- 38:41Speaker 1: even if if No Dame's in the top twelve, those
- 38:44Speaker 1: schools will get will get the bump. It's time for No.
- 38:47Speaker 1: Dame to join a conference because their schedule was weak
- 38:52Speaker 1: and they played Miami. I know it was the first
- 38:56Speaker 1: game of the year and they lost their They lost
- 39:00Speaker 1: that game on August thirtieth, And if that's the only
- 39:02Speaker 1: tie breaker, that's so be it. The problem is there
- 39:07Speaker 1: should be no preseason rankings before Week four, no preseason
- 39:12Speaker 1: rankings that skews in season rankings and moving teams from
- 39:19Speaker 1: one slot to another, no truly.
- 39:22Speaker 2: Think about that is I mean, it made that loss
- 39:24Speaker 2: against Miami even more interesting, like, oh my god, a
- 39:28Speaker 2: non ringked team beat Notre Dameer.
- 39:30Speaker 1: Well, we didn't know that Miami was non ranked at
- 39:32Speaker 1: that time, and Miami has a pretty good team. Miami
- 39:36Speaker 1: has a better team than Duke that played for the
- 39:38Speaker 1: ACC championship. And that's the other thing. The ACC tiebreaker
- 39:45Speaker 1: is archaic. It should have been Miami and Virginia playing
- 39:49Speaker 1: that game last week and instead of Duke and Duke
- 39:53Speaker 1: pulled off the upset and beat and beat Virginia. If
- 39:56Speaker 1: it was Miami in Virginia, Notre Dame would have been
- 39:58Speaker 1: in you know.
- 40:00Speaker 2: So you know, I am rooting for my dad's a
- 40:05Speaker 2: home state of Oklahoma. I think that's why I want
- 40:07Speaker 2: to see excel and and go from there. We'll have
- 40:10Speaker 2: to see Louis things go. But I will tell you this,
- 40:12Speaker 2: the Saturday Night Notre Dame can have a Heisman winner.
- 40:15Speaker 2: I think Jeremiah Love gets the heisman that I can
- 40:19Speaker 2: almost bank on because I just think he's had an
- 40:21Speaker 2: incredible season.
- 40:22Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I I get Alex about look at the burst, burst,
- 40:25Speaker 1: the bubble. I would be surprised if he gets the heisman.
- 40:29Speaker 1: It's gonna be It's gonna be Mendoza, and Mendoza shows.
- 40:34Speaker 1: Mendoza showed me a lot this year, and he showed
- 40:37Speaker 1: me even a lot on Saturday Night. The kid has
- 40:41Speaker 1: it on. He's not afraid of the of the clutch situations. Uh.
- 40:47Speaker 1: He has a little swagger to him. I mean, this
- 40:50Speaker 1: is not a good quarterback season for NFL prospects, but
- 40:56Speaker 1: Mendoza is the uh uh clearly the quarterback. If Mendoza
- 41:03Speaker 1: doesn't win it, the guy I would have voted for
- 41:05Speaker 1: if I had a would have been Pavia Diego. Pavia Vanderbilt.
- 41:09Speaker 1: He was the most valuable player in college football this year.
- 41:12Speaker 2: If there was on you, because I'm so focused on
- 41:14Speaker 2: Notre Dame, you have a whole broad spectrum that's going
- 41:17Speaker 2: on with these teams. By the way's being of a
- 41:19Speaker 2: spectrum and what happened last year to this year. Look
- 41:23Speaker 2: how many teams that were there last year that aren't
- 41:24Speaker 2: there this year. It is a very different landscape.
- 41:26Speaker 1: Oh, it's very different. And I know you're rooting for Oklahoma.
- 41:31Speaker 1: I probably will be rooting for Oklahoma on December nineteenth. Also, Uh,
- 41:37Speaker 1: that's a good matchup for Alabama. Is Oklahoma gonna be?
- 41:40Speaker 1: I know, Oklahoma beat Alabama at Alabama? Are they gonna
- 41:43Speaker 1: beat them twice? Uh? In uh in the month? I
- 41:49Speaker 1: don't know. That's that's that's tough. All right.
- 41:51Speaker 2: Well, I'm gonna leave you two at it. To finish
- 41:54Speaker 2: off on the Termolt's take about the Islanders. I know
- 41:57Speaker 2: Ryan's got some thoughts on that too.
- 41:59Speaker 1: Uh.
- 41:59Speaker 2: We talked about the first blue and orange of this
- 42:01Speaker 2: termino mistake with which the Mets disaster. Now let's have
- 42:04Speaker 2: a successor with blue and orange, and that's the Islander
- 42:06Speaker 2: right case.
- 42:07Speaker 1: Well positive, I mean if you told me when the
- 42:11Speaker 1: season began that the Islanders would be where they are now,
- 42:16Speaker 1: I would say I would not have expected that. Uh,
- 42:20Speaker 1: But you know they're doing a nice job. I mean,
- 42:23Speaker 1: they lost one of their top six guys, in Kyle Palmery,
- 42:27Speaker 1: who's you know he gets in front of that net,
- 42:29Speaker 1: the greasy goals. He's one of those leaders. One guy's
- 42:32Speaker 1: you know, he might go six or seven games without scoring,
- 42:35Speaker 1: but he's one of those guys who contributed in so
- 42:37Speaker 1: many ways. And with Alexander Romanov their best body checker
- 42:44Speaker 1: gone for the year, they've been over They've been able
- 42:47Speaker 1: to overcome those injuries, and Sorokan has been terrific after
- 42:51Speaker 1: the first week or so. And what can you say
- 42:55Speaker 1: about Matthew Schaeffer. I mean, I just hope they don't
- 42:59Speaker 1: they don't wear them. I think last night he played
- 43:01Speaker 1: almost twenty nine minutes in the five to four shootout
- 43:05Speaker 1: victory over Vegas. And they're not afraid to play the
- 43:07Speaker 1: big teams. They stand up what uh, toe to toe?
- 43:10Speaker 1: It's the big teams, right, Ryan.
- 43:12Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean standing up toe to toe against a
- 43:15Speaker 3: very fast team in Vegas, and I mean a gutsy
- 43:19Speaker 3: shootout win like that. I mean, I'll take it any
- 43:21Speaker 3: day of the week. I mean, that's fairly easy to
- 43:24Speaker 3: say when one of the other Blue and Orange teams
- 43:27Speaker 3: that occupy the city is just not delivering any good
- 43:30Speaker 3: feelings over the past twenty four or so hours. But
- 43:33Speaker 3: you know, you got to take what you can get.
- 43:36Speaker 1: Well, you have to when you want to get every
- 43:37Speaker 1: point you can because right now in Eastern Conference, I
- 43:40Speaker 1: believe there's only a twelve point separation, at least going
- 43:43Speaker 1: into last night's game, there was a twelve point separation
- 43:46Speaker 1: from one to fifteen. So you lose a couple of games,
- 43:50Speaker 1: you're you know, it's it's.
- 43:51Speaker 3: Right back at the oh.
- 43:52Speaker 1: It's really bad. It's it's hurtful. I wonder if the
- 43:55Speaker 1: Olds are going to make a trade not I don't
- 43:59Speaker 1: think it would be a major tray the tray to
- 44:00Speaker 1: get another top six guy that could put the puck
- 44:04Speaker 1: in in that Obviously, that power play still is inadequate
- 44:08Speaker 1: no matter what they do, no matter what power play
- 44:10Speaker 1: coaches they higher fire, they just can't seem to get
- 44:14Speaker 1: the hot the power play consistently effective. So that's that's
- 44:19Speaker 1: still a problem. But as an eye on the fan,
- 44:22Speaker 1: you gotta be happy so that that that that is
- 44:26Speaker 1: something we can look forward to hopefully the whole sea.
- 44:29Speaker 3: So it's just such a pleasant surprise though, and I
- 44:31Speaker 3: said this right when they started the season, I would
- 44:34Speaker 3: be pleasantly surprised if this team got to eighty five points.
- 44:36Speaker 3: I mean, we're talking about a group preseason, no expectations
- 44:39Speaker 3: on it whatsoever. More so, a season to let some
- 44:43Speaker 3: of the younger pieces fall into place, get their feet wet,
- 44:47Speaker 3: and you know, maybe they can build some chemistry along
- 44:49Speaker 3: the way to something bigger and say twenty six, twenty seven,
- 44:53Speaker 3: sure that I think this is gonna happen this quick.
- 44:55Speaker 3: I mean, going from no expectation season to now suddenly
- 45:01Speaker 3: sitting at third place in the Metro thirty seven points
- 45:05Speaker 3: and only two behind the first place Capitals. And I mean,
- 45:09Speaker 3: for a moment there last night, Loud, they were briefly
- 45:12Speaker 3: second in the Metro before the Carolina Columbus game went finals.
- 45:17Speaker 3: So we're talking about a team that at one point
- 45:19Speaker 3: in the past forty four hours was sitting second in
- 45:21Speaker 3: the Metropolitan Division. And really, all you can do at
- 45:23Speaker 3: this point is just keep it going. You gotta keep
- 45:27Speaker 3: me going because this division is cutthrow.
- 45:30Speaker 1: It's cut throw. That's a great way of putting it.
- 45:33Speaker 1: That's look at the Devils. They lost five in a row,
- 45:35Speaker 1: they're out of the playoff spot, and they won last night.
- 45:40Speaker 3: You're going a good rebound win at the hands of
- 45:42Speaker 3: the senators.
- 45:43Speaker 1: Absolutely, they're five and eight without Jack Hughes. That that
- 45:47Speaker 1: hurts them obviously, But the trade room involving the Devils
- 45:52Speaker 1: and the Canucks is hot again, both locally and out
- 45:57Speaker 1: of Canada. Regarding a big train for uh quinn Us
- 46:02Speaker 1: coming to uh the Devils.
- 46:04Speaker 3: Oh, I mean that's I think it's gonna happen more
- 46:07Speaker 3: than simmering at this point.
- 46:08Speaker 1: Yeah, it's gonna happen. Ironically, the Canucks play at Prudential
- 46:13Speaker 1: on on Sunday, so, uh who knows that we're gonna
- 46:19Speaker 1: have all these executives from both teams face to face.
- 46:23Speaker 1: I wonder if that helps expedite that trade. The Devil
- 46:26Speaker 1: is gonna make at least one or two major trades.
- 46:28Speaker 3: I really believe that, because, I mean, you have to
- 46:31Speaker 3: capitalize on this current core that you have right now,
- 46:34Speaker 3: even without the services of Jack Hughes. And I mean,
- 46:37Speaker 3: especially if they can get another Hughes brother in store.
- 46:40Speaker 3: I mean, he's watching from the other side of the
- 46:45Speaker 3: country really from Vancouver. He's seeing that his brothers are
- 46:48Speaker 3: having a ton of fun over at Newark. And I
- 46:51Speaker 3: mean it's just been so speculated for years that perhaps
- 46:55Speaker 3: he wants to join in and have that fun as well.
- 46:58Speaker 3: And I mean there's not a better opportunity to do
- 47:02Speaker 3: that than now.
- 47:02Speaker 2: If anything.
- 47:03Speaker 3: I mean, you make a big splash like Quinn Hughes,
- 47:07Speaker 3: and especially when you get Jack Hughes coming back and
- 47:10Speaker 3: healthy from his freak accident weeks ago. I mean, that's
- 47:13Speaker 3: a pretty talented core in the metro. They would definitely
- 47:17Speaker 3: be a squad to look out for it in the
- 47:18Speaker 3: long run.
- 47:19Speaker 1: No, I I agree, And you know I signed Luke
- 47:23Speaker 1: u'es to the long term extension. They'll if they get
- 47:25Speaker 1: Quinn u'es, obviously he'll sign a long term extension cause
- 47:28Speaker 1: the boys will be the three boys will be together,
- 47:31Speaker 1: and they're all very talented, that's for sure.
- 47:36Speaker 2: And Ryan lew and Ryan has been awesome to have
- 47:38Speaker 2: you guys both on spitting hockey, spitting baseball, spitting a
- 47:43Speaker 2: little basketball. Uh, it's almost like you guys should collab
- 47:47Speaker 2: run packs perspective also, I think that'd be a great
- 47:49Speaker 2: little collabor right there. But Alex Network, I love having
- 47:54Speaker 2: you guys on because you follow the Blue and Orange
- 47:57Speaker 2: Mets and Blue Orange Islanders better than I do. And
- 48:00Speaker 2: so I bring you guys on, so Lou maybe as
- 48:03Speaker 2: there's more overgon news in free agency, I'd love to
- 48:05Speaker 2: have you back on. I think it's gonna be only one.
- 48:07Speaker 2: It's gonna be one of a couple this week. I
- 48:08Speaker 2: feel like we're gonna get more news down the pike.
- 48:10Speaker 2: What do you think.
- 48:11Speaker 1: I think we're gonna get more news down the pike,
- 48:13Speaker 1: and I think it's gonna be major. I do one
- 48:17Speaker 1: last thing. Joe Buck made the Hall of Fame, He's
- 48:21Speaker 1: getting the Ford Frick Award, And obviously he hasn't done
- 48:25Speaker 1: baseball for a couple of years, but he is. He
- 48:28Speaker 1: is the best of football announced played by play announcer
- 48:31Speaker 1: right now in the NFL. And he was a great
- 48:33Speaker 1: baseball announcer. Well deserved war for him now was a
- 48:35Speaker 1: little bit of breaking news a little while ago. One
- 48:38Speaker 1: last thing. I'll let you go, guys. In the first
- 48:41Speaker 1: one hundred years of the National Football League, there were
- 48:43Speaker 1: twenty two kicks of field goals made over sixty yards.
- 48:49Speaker 1: In the last six years, they've been twenty eight field
- 48:52Speaker 1: goals made over sixty yards. They got that they're gonna
- 48:55Speaker 1: have to do something with the with making these field
- 48:59Speaker 1: goal is way too easy. So talk about moving the
- 49:02Speaker 1: gold posts.
- 49:03Speaker 2: You never know, rights, Louis yea guys plagdriving both on
- 49:08Speaker 2: Terminalo's take and lou I'll see you this weekend.
- 49:11Speaker 1: He I look forward to it, I really do. I'm
- 49:13Speaker 1: looking forward to seeing you Alex. We haven't seen each
- 49:15Speaker 1: other in a while, so uh, that'll be great. Ryan,
- 49:19Speaker 1: take care, talk to you soon, Alex. I love you. Guys,
- 49:23Speaker 1: appreciate it and thank you very much.
- 49:26Speaker 2: And we'll have you on before But Merry Christmas season
- 49:28Speaker 2: is always Louis same here, all right. That's Terminal's take
- 49:32Speaker 2: here on the One Leg Up Network
