2:49
Good morning, how are you sir? Good morning, Dave? How
2:51
are you going? Find me? Also have Todd file with us this morning.
2:53
Todd, Good morning, morning Dave. And via the Bigley Piggly Wiggly
2:58
Hotline all the way from the state of Idaho. We have Susannah Bar with
3:04
us. Susannah, good morning, Welcome to the show, Good morning,
3:07
thanks for having me. Wow. I mean this may be, guys,
3:10
the first time I've ever had anyone from Idaho on the show. Possibly it's
3:15
groundbreaking, the first time we've ever had and Susannah is out in Idaho right
3:19
now saying, well, this is the first time I've ever been on a
3:21
West Virginia radio talk show. Is that right? All right? Well part
3:25
of Idaho? Are you in if you don't mind my asking, I'm in
3:29
Boise, Okay. I was going to say, because if it's not Boise
3:30
or Pokate, what is it. Pokatellico That's what we have here, Yeahkatella.
3:38
Yeah, because that's where Marshall played years ago in the ONEAA national championship
3:44
game. So it's only two cities I know, an Idahoe. But anyway,
3:46
we talk a little pick a ball and Susannah, I want to get
3:47
to you here in just a couple of moments, Johnny. The reason we
3:51
have all these folks here is to talk about this big tournament that you've got
3:54
going on coming up in I guess next month. H give me all the
3:59
particulars. July eleventh through July fourteenth at Nitro, it's the Metro nine one
4:03
one Pickleball Tournament, just reinforce what we're doing. All the funds we make
4:08
off this go to our great nine to one one employees, and for example,
4:13
if they do CPR on a loved one and save a life, we
4:15
like to give them a gift card to reward them for the job they do.
4:17
We can't pay them what they're worth, and this is the way to
4:20
reward our employees. So it's a very important tournament for the community to take
4:24
care of nine one one employees. And the dates again July eleventh through July
4:28
fourteenth, Nitro, and it's at the pickleball courts there in Nitro Dice facility
4:31
you have there as well. Now, Todd, what is your roll in
4:33
all this good good questions? He doesn't. I'm the jack of all trades,
4:39
I guess. So I am the tournament director for that tournament. I
4:44
managed the behind the scenes administrative work, but I also help promote, help
4:49
Johnny with the promotions, and coincidentally I had followed I followed pickleball. I'm
4:58
an addict. If you want to say that, but I follow a lot
5:01
of the different pros and watch a lot of it, and Susannah Barr was
5:06
one of the pros that I followed and about it's probably been four or five
5:12
months ago. I was traveling through the Atlanta airport and I saw this young
5:18
woman with a Selkirk backpack on her back, and I thought, hmm,
5:21
there's a fellow pick a ball player. And as she turned around, I
5:26
thought, oh, no, this can't be. This is Susannah bar right
5:30
right. Immediately I'm nervous because she's a pro, and you know, it
5:34
just kind of worked out that we were next to each other on the Atlanta
5:39
plane train. If anybody's gone through Atlanta, they know what the plane train
5:42
is. And I said, hey, follow you love watching you play,
5:46
and it's kind of taken off from there, you know. I reached out
5:51
to her and we asked if she'd like to come to our tournament and play,
5:57
and initially she had some plans, but things changed, and here we
6:01
are today with a top ranked professional pickleball player coming to Charleston. And for
6:09
those that don't know, and I'll do a little bit of background on what
6:12
currently is your distinction Susannah, you are the of the top ranked number.
6:17
I'll let you tell me because so I don't mess it up. Good,
6:20
You're fine. Yeah, I'm the number one mixed female player on the app
6:26
Tour and then I'm number three or four in women's doubles. Well, and
6:31
do you give you an idea of how big this would be? And I
6:33
was trying to because I'm a sports guy, you know, and I'm trying
6:35
to put it into sports analogy. This would be if you follow Major League
6:41
baseball, this is the equivalent to bringing modern day. This is the equivalent
6:44
to bringing maybe Aaron Judge here. Absolutely, I mean this would be the
6:47
equivalent to back in the day bringing Michael Jordan here. I mean for a
6:50
basketball tournament. It's excited. And since she's agreed to play with the tournament,
6:55
we're getting people from all over the country. We've got six states,
6:58
people from six states coming in top you know, good players from the States
7:00
just to be able to play with Suzanna. It's excited. Well, Susannah,
7:03
how did you get into this? And what is it about pickleball that
7:05
appealed to you? I actually got into pickleball just as a hobby. I
7:12
was kind of bored and I was homeschooling my son and I had played tennis,
7:15
and so I was like, we need something we can do together.
7:19
So I found pickleball at the local YMCA here in Boise, and from there
7:24
it just took off. And now I'm a full time traveling pro, a
7:28
professional coach, and I'm actually the owner of a eighteen indoor court club here
7:33
in Boise. So I am all in pickleball. And the great thing about
7:38
it is it's for everyone. It's so much fun, it's you know,
7:42
a healthy activity, and just really honestly, it's the great community. Like
7:46
Todd was saying, you see people at the airport and you know they're comfortable
7:50
enough to come up and talk to you and make connections all over and people
7:56
of all ages get to play together. And you'll never hear more people laugh
8:00
then you do on a pickleball court. That means they're having fun or they're
8:03
making fun of people like me. That's what that means. But Dave Islands
8:05
Show and five Eddy Live is brought to you apart by fresh Air. They'll
8:07

8:11

8:18
called three zero four four four zero one one zero four for fresh air,
8:22
because everyone deserves fresh air. Talk about how, Susannah, how the pros
8:28
work in the world of pickleball. We know how Major League Baseball in the
8:31
NBA what not work. How does it work in pickleball? Yeah, I
8:35
mean so professional pickleball players you kind of have two different kind at this stage.
8:39
You have the ones that are full time. Typically they're sponsored players,
8:46
you know, by some companies, typically a Pandel company, and they travel
8:50
the world playing football tournaments and make their living that way. And then you
8:54
do still have a lot of pro pickleball players who are working as well,
9:00
because there is a new sport and so a lot of them have regular jobs
9:05
and then they play pro pickaball on the weekends. So you have quite a
9:09
variety still just as the sport is growing. But you know, we're out
9:15
here competing week after week, trying to win the elusive medals and growing our
9:22
brands and growing the sport as well. How many how much of this how
9:28
much time does this take out of your schedule, Susannah, because as you
9:31
said, you're a pro with this. Is this pretty much what you're doing
9:33
full time? Now? Yeah? I mean I'm playing full time, so
9:37
you know, I practice, you know, almost every day, just like
9:41
any other professional athlete, going to the gym, hitting the courts, working
9:46
with my coaches. And then on top of that, I coach as well,
9:50
and so I spend you know, it's it's probably sixty forty when we
9:56
take a percentage. But I'm traveling all the two to three weekends, two
10:03
weeks out of the month to play tournaments and to coach at different places around
10:07
the country. And you're also and I was reading your bio, you're also
10:09
a veteran too, So I want to say thank you for your service.
10:13
Oh well, thank you. Yeah, I served after September eleventh. Okay,
10:20
Well, that's awesome. And that's that's as important as pickleball. Let's
10:22
to talk about today's that's that's more important. It actually is, Johnny.
10:26
Let's talk about the event and the logistics of set event coming up in July.
10:33
How's everything going to work. You're still looking for players, still looking
10:35
for sponsors, still looking for players, still looking for sponsors. The great
10:39
thing about Susannah once again, the name of this tournament is serving for safety.
10:43
It's for police vims. You know. It helps bring up how important
10:48
it is. This tournament's July eleventh and July fourteenth. If you look at
10:52
the Metro nine to one one Facebook page, there's a link there to hit
10:56
and you can go and sign up as a player. And also we're always
10:58
looking for sponsors of course. And uh, and Susanne, you are going
11:03
to be offering lessons to people, there is that, right? Yes,
11:07
yeah, I'll be there with Dominict Catialano. He's a professional commentator so you
11:11
see and hear him on ESPN and Fox Sports and different things, so he'll
11:16
be there as well. And the two of us will be offering clinics to
11:20
UH players of all different levels. Awesome, awesome, Uh, and UH
11:26
you've got information available, as you said one. I know it's all over
11:28
your social media and also on the on websites as well, Right, Johnny,
11:31
that's correct, And and I want to say too, Sure Susanna is
11:35
coming and the pros will be there, but this is this event is for
11:39
all skills in all ages. Everything's categorized by age and skill, So we
11:43
want the pros, but we also want it's a local thing for for new
11:46
players and intermed intermediate players also, Tom, I want to ask you,
11:50
how did you get involved in all this? As far as as uh as
11:54
as a player? I mean what uh I know, I've talked to Johnny
11:58
several times about his background. But what is it that appealed to you about
12:01
this and how did you get involved in That's a good question. So I've
12:05
always been somewhat active athletic, and some friends of mine this is going back
12:13
probably four years ago, asked me to try it. I'd heard about it
12:16
and wanted to try it, but it wasn't as popular in this area four
12:22
years ago. So I started playing and a good friend of mine, his
12:26
name's Rick Crotty. The first summer I started playing, he took me to
12:31
Coonskin Park and he literally beat the crap out of me for a year.
12:37
Right now, keep in mind Rick is an older gentleman. That's one of
12:43
the great things about this sport is age kind of is not a barrier.
12:48
But for that whole summer, and I just kept asking for more. Every
12:52
time he'd beat me, I'd come back and then we'd do it again.
12:54
We'd do it again and do it again. And you know, I owe
12:58
a lot to those friends who got me started. Initially, I just started
13:03
to grow because there wasn't any kind of organized event. There were six of
13:09
us that got together under the canopy at South Charleston one afternoon and we said,
13:15
let's make this a club. And that was three years ago. Now
13:20
we have one hundred and eighty people in our club and five hundred and eighty
13:24
people in our Facebook page. Wow in three years, so this thing and
13:28
you mentioned how this twenty twenty this wasn't quite as big a deal. It's
13:33
just grown so much in this area, and I guess West Virginia is kind
13:37
of catching up with the rest of the country. Sure in this thing,
13:41
it's going to be a fantastic event. And I'll have you guys on between
13:45
now and then. If a business is listening right now and they want to
13:48
get involved in sponsorship, John, we'll leave that up to you. How
13:52
can they get in touch with you? Well, once again, go to
13:54
the Metro nine one one Facebook page. Of course, you know we have
13:56
all of our emergency things there. But Wan, we'll pend on top you'll
13:58
see our turn go there. Contact us through the Facebook page and we'll be
14:01
glad to give you a call. And Susannah, when you are in town
14:07
for the term, but I want to make sure John brings you in the
14:07
studio here because I want to good a chance to meet you. God,
14:11
that'd be great. Have you Have you been to West Virginia before, Susannah.
14:16
I think I've driven through it, but I've never actually got well,
14:20
we're going to actually make his stop yet, You're actually going to have to
14:22
stop it. Take in some of these wonderful things here, Susannah. I
14:26
appreciate you. We'll be talking to you next month. Thanks a lot.
14:30
Thank you. That's Susannah bar John Todd. I appreciate you guys being here
14:33
today. Thanks a lot, and we'll have you on before the big event
14:35
again. Give us the dates July eleventh through July fourteenth, night Troe pick
14:41

14:43
Susannah come in here. This is this is the modern day. Whatever sports
14:48

18:41
You want to come in here and hang out? I mean no, just
18:42
tell her to say, I mean, look, this guy has done it
18:44
for thirty six years. How hard could it be? He still looks fine.
18:47
Yeah, you look like a little ray of sunshine. She did.
18:49
She's very cute obviously takes after her mine does. Indeed. So uh,
18:55
congratulations and a wind dude, Thank you, my friend. I can't tell
18:56
you how much I appreciate it. And uh, to everybody out there that
19:00
got out and voted and all of our supporters all over West Virginia, I'm
19:03
just truly humbled and thankful for their support. It was a hard fought,
19:10
at sometimes nastier campaign with your opponent, Mike Stewart. Really, you know,
19:15
took some shots, but you chose to stay mostly above the frame mostly.
19:19
Well okay, all, yeah, yeah, I was, you know,
19:22
and I think you know everyone has their style, right, I mean,
19:26
you watch the NBA, or you watch Major League Baseball, or you
19:30
watch the World Cup. You know, every team has their way of playing.
19:33
And in my preferred method of politics is to let voters know who I
19:40
am, what I've done, what my accomplishments are, and what my vision
19:42
is for West Virginia and allow them to contrast that to whatever my opponent is
19:48
saying about how they're going to handle the office. And so We were very
19:52
very proud of the campaign that we ran. We were incredibly successful with fundraising,
19:56
We had fifty five county chairs, and we were really really successful in
20:02
election night, and I think in large part because people were really looking for
20:07
a campaign of that kind, so that was gonna be My next question is
20:11
why do you think that your message resonated so much with Republican voters. Was
20:15
it your vision for the office that you're seeking, was it what you've done
20:19
in the state Auditor's office? Combination of all Yeah, I think it's kind
20:23
of a combination of all of those things. But I think more than anything,
20:30
West Virginia is a place to be loved. And when you tell people
20:36
how you're going to make the place that they have intentionally decided to live better
20:40
for themselves, better for their children, better for them to grow older in,
20:45
and hopefully less expensive and more free, people will flock to that.
20:53
And I'm very, very hopeful that we are really at the very beginning of
20:59
a true renaissance for West Virginia where we're going to see growth like we haven't
21:03
seen before, and the opportunities that have been dreamed of for years for all

towards Better Health Today. The preview it well, I guess the current holder
21:40
the Attorney General's office, Patrick Morrissey, who won the Republican nomination for governor.
21:45
I think I think you and your opponent this past race, State Senator
21:48
Mike Stewart, and even the folks of the Democrats, I think that they
21:51
would agree those are some pretty big shoes to phil. Yeah. Patrick has
21:56
been an intensely successful attorney general for a long time, and it's hard to
22:00
find people who have been that successful for that long and so it's both a
22:07
blessing and a curse in some ways. Right, the blessing is is that
22:11
I'm inheriting an office that runs very well, and it's full of a ton
22:15
of really talented, excellent public servants. And like you said earlier, the
22:21
hard part about that is when you are filling big shoes, how do you
22:26
put your spin on an office that's already so successful? How do I You
22:30
know, Patrick and I are great friends, and he's going to be a
22:32
phenomenal governor. But you know, everybody's got their own style, and so
22:36
how do you how do you take your vision and your leadership style and apply
22:41
it to an office that's already so successful? And I couldn't be more excited
22:45
for the opportunity. And uh and I'm ready for the challenge. And now
22:49
you move on to the general yep to face Teresa Torrisseeva pretty pretty well known
22:56
name. I mean as far as the different things that that she's done.
23:00
Tis I pay race for us. Well, you know, West Virginia has
23:03
changed to pretty significantly read in recent years. And as people that know me
23:08
know, my family has been involved both in the front lines and the periphery
23:14
of Republican politics for a long time, and so I've seen and I've been
23:18
in the minority, and I have seen what it takes to run a race
23:22
when you are on the other side of sort of the political wins. And
23:27
so I am very, very cognizant of the fact that there's two ways to
23:30
run in a campaign, and that's scared and unopposed. And so we are
23:34
going to We're going to run a robust campaign against an honorable person who likely
23:41
will be doing the same thing. And so we're going to take our message
23:45
to all fifty five counties, just like we did in the primary, just
23:48
like I did both elections for state Auditor, and we're going to tell the
23:52
people of West Virginia how we are going to be the top lawyer on a
23:59
team of people who were ready to change West Virginia forever. Are you open
24:02
to having a debate with her, because I know you did in a primary
24:04
with Senator Sewe Are you open having a debate, I'd say probably yes.
24:07
We haven't been asked to have any debates yet, but I'm certain that over
24:11
the next few months those things will start to get scheduled. Someone sent a
24:15
text to the show and ask and this is a very good question for any
24:18
Canada not just you. How do you starve the interest to those who didn't
24:21
maybe didn't support you. Yeah, well, it doesn't really matter after the
24:25
election. At the end of the day, I am West Virginia's lawyer.
24:29
I'm trying to be West Virginia's lawyer, the lawyer for everyone. And just
24:33
because somebody didn't vote for you, doesn't mean they're not your constituent. And
24:37
so it would. I don't believe I've ever asked anybody if they voted for
24:41
me or not, and so they would have to they would have to volunteer
24:45
that to me in a conversation, which probably wouldn't be the best way to
24:51
start a conversation. But you know, I don't really care. You know,
24:55
at the end of the day, after an election, it's time to
25:00
to move West Virginia forward, not West Virginia for those who voted for you
25:04
forward. You talked about some of the some of the positives of West Virginia
25:10
and we're poised for growth and so on and so forth. What are some
25:14
of the things that whomever the next Attorney general is is going to be facing
25:18
in court? Because let's face it, I mean, you know, in
25:21
the current Attorney General, Patrick Morrise. He spent a whole lot of time
25:23
there on various from opioids on down. What is what's on on the to
25:29
do list or the task list for the next Attorney General, whomever it is.
25:32
Well, the first question that we have to ask is who's going to
25:34
be the president, And we're obviously very hopeful that it's going to be Donald
25:37
Trump. And if it's him, your role changes very, very significantly.
25:41
A Trump administration would be significantly more positive towards West Virginia's economy. We know
25:48
that President Trump supports fracking and mining and the underlying economic drivers of Westfrictinian.
26:00
We know that President Biden doesn't have the same view of how West Virginians should
26:04
be or how our state should be driving its revenue. So if Trump is
26:07
to win, what we're going to be doing is working with West Virginia leaders
26:12
to make sure we are undoing a lot of the harmful things that have been
26:17
done to West Virginia over the last few years. But if Biden wins,
26:22
it's a continuation of standing up for who we are, what our values are,
26:26
and what we do as West Virginians to drive our economy and I think
26:32
what's really interesting and the reason why I'm so hopeful about West Virginia's future,
26:37
is that there's young families that live all over this country in nameless, faceless
26:42
subdivisions with gates in Dallas and d C. And Raleigh and Charlotte and Baltimore
26:48
and you name the cities who are saying, you know, I think I
26:51
want to raise my kids in a little bit of a different place. And
26:53
when you go up and down the East Coast, there's really only one place
26:57
that I know of where the family is the single most important driver of everything
27:03
that happens in a community, and that's right here. And I think that
27:07
we need to defend what it means to be a West Virginian because it's our
27:11
single greatest it's our single greatest asset, is who we are, how we
27:15
live our lives, how your lifestyle will be here. And in order to
27:19
do that, we have to make sure that our schools are exactly how young
27:25
families want their schools to be. We need to make sure we have school
27:27
choice. We need to make sure our public schools are offering the things that
27:30
make kids successful when they grow up. We also have to make sure that
27:34
we are protecting the least vulnerable among us. Right, people don't want to
27:40
live in a place where they see the government missing the mark on taking care
27:45
of those who can't take care of themselves. And we've seen we have an
27:48
enormous CPS problem, we have a myriad of health problems, particularly within some
27:55
of our older communities, and we need to make sure that we are doing
27:59
that much better. And lastly, we have to make sure that we're defending
28:03
the way of life that West Virginians enjoy. That's you know, firearms and
28:07
right to life and freedom of speech and all of the incredible ways that you
28:14
can enjoy the beauty and the and the sort of majesty of what West Virginia
28:18
is. And so really what you're doing is, in my opinion, defending
28:25
defending who West Virginians are and how we live so that we can continue to
28:30
grow while attracting people who share our our our common set of of humble and
28:37
kind values. We and calls so Dave Allen Show on five Any Live the

28:48
got another job I do. That's in addition to being the father of two
28:52
wonderful daughters. Uh, you're still a state auditor. So so what's the
28:57
summer look like for that? Yeah, what's in the office, what's on
29:00
the to do list? Man? So all kinds of stuff. We have
29:03
fraud cases coming out the ears. We are just grinding on a whole bunch
29:08
of those we have. The summertime is when we do a lot of our
29:12
trainings. So the Auditor's Office, one of our main roles is we're what's
29:15
called the chief inspector, and so we spend a lot of time over the
29:18
summer at trainings for county clerks, trainings for county commissioners, trainings for county
29:22
sheriffs. We work with the assessors a lot to make sure that everybody understands
29:27
what the current legislative makeup is and what are the new laws and how are
29:33
they supposed to be complying with the various regulations that our office has. And
29:37
we'll be traveling around the state continuing with our checkbook program. We have a
29:41
checkbook launch tomorrow. We're in Jackson County tomorrow morning for them to launch their
29:48
new checkbook site. I think that gets us up to forty nine counties who
29:53
have decided to be on the check fifty. That's not bad. That's not
29:57
bad, especially when it's voluntary. And I've said to you before, I'd
30:00
rather have fifty volunteers than fifty five conscripted soldiers. And so what we've seen
30:06
is our local governments have really they've embraced this idea of taxpayer transparency, and
30:11
we are so proud to have made West Virginia the most transparent state in the
30:15
country. And just yesterday I was at it's called the Hunt Keen Fellowship and
30:21
they were doing a legislator's retreat on education reform, and we were talking about
30:25
early childhood education, and we were talking about higher ED, and we were
30:27
talking about how do we prepare our students for the future. And it was
30:30
really interesting to see some of the national experts open up the checkbook and say,
30:37
oh, my goodness, you know, you guys have such an incredible
30:40
leg up here with the ability for all of the subject matter experts to see
30:44
where the spending is going, to see how we're investing in our students,
30:47
and to hopefully use that information to marry it with with student data and start
30:52
to really change our education system in smart ways. That answers the question,
31:00
you know, where and how should we be investing to maximize the taxpayer dollar
31:07
as it relates to educating our children, Because there really isn't a more important
31:11
thing. When you ask any company who's looking to invest in a place,
31:14
the first thing they ask is is how are your schools? How are the
31:17
children of our employees going to be taken care of? And how well are
31:22
you preparing our workforce of the future, say douditor and now Republican nominee for
31:26
Attorney General J. B. Mccusky day. Thank you, buddy. I'm
31:30
a little I want to go ahead and get you out of here because I
31:32

31:36

31:38

31:41

36:45
Good morning, thanks for having me back on, Thank you for being It's
36:46
great to be here. I want to go ahead and get this out of
36:49
the way. Senator Joe Manchin, Yes, former Democrat Joe Manchin, now
36:53
independent or unaffiliated with a party. Joe Manchin. Now it's been on Friday.
36:58
Were you surprised by the switch? Uh? Yeah, I was surprised
37:00
by the timing of it, really. I mean, it's just you know,
37:04
it's his last you know, he's not running for re election, is
37:07
eight months left, and the big thought that he would, you know,
37:09
finish that term as a Democrat, the party that that he was elected.
37:15
Did you have any kind of medication. I don't want to talk inside politics
37:17
much. Did you have any kind of indication that was coming. I personally
37:21
did not, But I'll just I will say, we will take him at
37:22
his word that it's not because he's planning on running for anything. He has
37:27
pledged his full support for Mayor Williams for governor and has has maxed out to
37:34
him, gave him the maximum contribution for both the primary and the general election.
37:37
And I think of the reason he supports Steve Williams the same reason why
37:42
a lot of people support Steve Williams. When Mayor Williams became mayor of Huntingdon
37:47
years ago, the city was bankrupt and he's really done a lot to turn
37:51
that city around, made him a model city, a shining example of the
37:53
rest of the country where they've become a city of solutions and and one's all
37:58
sorts of UH national recognition in grants because of the hard work of Mayor Williams.
38:02
So there's a lot to like there, whether you're a Democrat, whether
38:06
you're a Republican or an independent. And he's also pledged his support to another
38:09
mayor, Mayor Elliott, who's running for the US Senate, who's also done
38:14
a great job up there and wheeling and is a great team. I'll say
38:16
this about I'll say this about Huntington as somebody who lived in Huntingdon in the
38:20
early nineteen nineties. He can you can credit Steve Williams, you can credit
38:23
or blame whoever you want. It's a heck of a lot better th Huntington
38:25
than what it was in nineteen ninety to nineteen ninety two when I was there.
38:29
I can tell you that he took over a city that was bankrupt and
38:31
turned them around financially and was able to pay first responders and get more,
38:37
you know, improve public safety. And he did all of this. Mayor
38:40
Williams did all of this without raising taxes. So there's a lot there for
38:45
people to like across the political spectrum. I think that's why he has the
38:47
support of Senator Mansion. Did you hear the interview with Tol Take Senator Mansion
38:52
at his word that this is just about this national effort that he has to
38:55
bring the you know, the parties together and this group that he's working on
39:00
with his daughter, and you know what, that is an admirable effort.
39:02
I think everybody can agree that there's too much divisionist country and we shouldn't matter
39:06
bring both sides. Did you hear the interview with Hoppy yesterday though, with
39:08
Senator Mansion, I mean, because it was kind of you know, he
39:12
said I am not he and Hoppy in that playful way that they do,
39:15
you know, back and forth. You know, Hoppy, I am not
39:16
running. I am not running. But he also said, you know,
39:21
I don't know what future holds, and there are no there's no just He's
39:24
I think the exact quote was, what is what is absolute in this life?
39:30
Well, I don't believe. I've take him for his word that he
39:31
is not running and that people who are unhappy, and many people on your
39:36
side of the aisle are unhappy with the choices that the Republicans have put up
39:40
put up unhappy with the nominees such as Patrick Morrisey and but Jim Justice.
39:44
He has a lot of issues as well that we can get into, and
39:46
they take a look another look at our candidates. Mayor Williams is a great
39:51
candidate for governor. He will make a great governor for the state. And
39:53
Glenn Elliott has done wonders in the city of Wheeling two And it's also also
39:59
you know, when he was a young man, he was an intern for
40:01
I'm talking about Glenn Elliott. It was an intern for a senator Bird,
40:06
So he knows how the Senate works. And also it's important he knows where
40:08
the Senate is located. It's in Washington, d C. And he actually
40:12
plans on going there to actually work, unlike Governor Justice, who we rarely
40:16
see in Charleston and doesn't show up for work. You would have to admit
40:21
those times. You would have to admit, though, Mike, that it
40:23
is going to be and you're a guy that likes a challenge. I mean,
40:27
it's going to be a challenge in a in a bright red state,
40:30
regardless of how good a person Steve Williams or Glenn Elliott or whomever may be.
40:35
It's going to be a portion. Yeah, there's no doubt in my
40:37
mind that's going to be a challenge. But you know what, you know,
40:40
what's worth the state's worth fighting for, and I think the state would
40:45
be better represented with people who really share their values. People work for a
40:50
living. They should be able to make a living wage. They should expect
40:52
a reasonable amount of safety at the workplace. They should have great schools for
40:57
everybody's kids, not just the wealthiest one person. They should be able to
41:02
trust the water coming out of their tap, and that they should have access
41:07
to reproductive healthcare, reproductive freedom like people in the state had that people in
41:12
this country had for fifty years. Steve Williams already seems like he's overturned by
41:16
the appointees that Trump had put on the Supreme Court. Steve Williams Mayor Williams
41:21
already seems like he is really kind of pushing that and bringing that out to
41:24
the forefront. That there are a lot of people that think that maybe the
41:29
Republican legislature or Dobbs or whatever you want to say, has gone too far.
41:34
Well, is that going to be a major part of the campaign yeah,
41:36
and the Republican legislature here in West Virginia has gone way too far in
41:39
a complete and total ban on abortion. And Governor Justice who first ran,
41:45
I'll reminds you back in twenty sixteen, he ran as a pro choice Democrat.
41:51
He signed the bill into law, have a total ban in West Virginia.
41:54
So God forbid something happens during I mean the worst case scenario, something
42:00
happens during a pregnancy, that that decision is no longer in the hands of
42:04
the woman or her doctor and she now has to do a GoFundMe to leave
42:08
the state in order to get medical attention. It's wrong. And I think
42:13
most people, whether they consider themselves pro choice, pro life, or somewhere
42:16
in between, agree that the all out band in West Virginia is extreme.
42:22
It is too extreme, and it's and we need to put it on the
42:25
ballot and let the people decide. So you're four putting it on the ballot.
42:30
You said that before. But I just want to clarify the constitutional amendment
42:32
to caut a fire row. I don't think more. I don't think the
42:37
Republicans want that. Of course they don't because they would lose that. I
42:39
really don't know. I mean if they think that they of course they don't,
42:43
or they would have done it during the special session. They have one
42:45
more chance in August. If we look like we're going to go into a
42:47
special session, put it on the ballot. Let the people decide what could
42:51
be wrong with that. If you're against it, vote no. If you're
42:53
four restoring this freedom that has been that this country had for over fifty years,
42:58
then you vote yes. I mean, the argument in that from the
43:00
state Republican Party and others is going to be West Virginia. It was on
43:05
the battle a couple of years ago. It was a completely different question.
43:07
It involved, First of all, it involved public funding, which is an
43:10
entirely different question. And at that point it was a hypothetical. That was
43:14
before the overturning of Roe and before this statewide abortion band that we have in
43:20
the States. It was a hypothetical. Now it's real. The last couple
43:23
of weeks, Mike, the headlines have not been about politics following the election,
43:29
which is not necessarily a bad thing, or politicians. It's been about
43:30
the problems with CPS, with this tragedy in Boone County, and just every
43:36
day seemingly you turn on the news, you go to our website or whatever,
43:38
pick up the paper, and it's another story about some sort of And
43:43
I'm not pointing fingers, Mike, but we are the only one not pointing
43:46
fingers some sort because they break down between CPS, between state government, between
43:52
you know, go ahead and fill in all the names you want there.
43:55
There is something definitely and what happens in this case in Boone County Hobbies talked
44:00
about it at length, is it's like, you know, the governor says,
44:02
well, and I'm not damning the governor here, I'm saying the governor
44:05
says one thing, and then CPS has a statement out, and then the
44:08
state police comes out and it's a total breakdown, total And the real victim
44:13
here is a dead child, a young girl who and the CPS had been
44:20
called, looks like they had been called previously or the state trooper went directly
44:23
to their office and reported this family already. And that's not the only case
44:28
like that. We had the case in system Bille where there were multiple calls
44:30
to CPS from neighbors who saw what was going on, you know, in
44:36
that family. What can you do as a legislator, though, What can
44:37
you Well, we're spoking of about I had some oversight, but you know,
44:40
they were unable to pass the bill that would allow us to provide more
44:44
oversight. And they constantly go back on this claim that CPS does that they
44:49
don't have to report on anything. They get to hold all this stuff confidential.
44:53
Of course, we want to protect the identities of children, of course
44:57
we do, but we've got to especially after something like that this happened,
45:00
we have to get to the bottom of it to prevent any horrible thing like
45:02
this ever from happening again. And you said you don't want to point fingers,
45:07
Well, I'm glad you're about the only one that's not pointing fingers here.
45:10
Because the governor's administration, they're constantly he's blaming the lawyers at the department,
45:15
he's blaming the state police, he's blaming everybody but himself. And the
45:20
problem is when the boss doesn't show up for work, bad things happen.
45:23
And that's been endemic of his entire administration, with the problems at CPS,
45:28
the problems with the state police, the problems with our jails and our prisms,
45:31
not prisons, not having enough teachers, and every aspect of state government.
45:37
We are having just a crisis mode constantly, and it's because the boss
45:40
doesn't show up for work and he expects to be sent to Washington, d
45:45
C. Does anybody really expect him to go show up? His way means
45:52
not showing up, not today. One good thing you heard all this stuff,
45:55
you know with the Trump case about yeah, he was convicted of of,
46:00
you know, covering up payoffs, to cover up a hush money payoff.
46:07
One you don't have to worry about that with Jim Justic because he's never
46:08
paid anybody off. He doesn't pay his taxes, he hasn't paid his debtors,
46:12
He's just had his helicopter repossessed. He's only governor I know that has

Tech says, abortion was on the ballot in twenty eighteen and the people
49:07
banned abortion in West Virginia. It's a settled issues. Stopped bloviating, Stop
49:09
blowing completely a different question. It mentioned public funding, which is completely different,
49:15
totally changes the question. And like I said before, it was a
49:16
hypothetical at that time, that was before Roe had been overturned. Put it
49:21
on the ballot again, see what happens. Tech says, So let's going
49:22
back to JB. McCuskey. JV's vision for West Virginia sounds great. Too
49:25
bad as freedom vision does include legalized cannabis. What a bummer, dude.
49:30
If Republican says the texture had actual principles, they would vote against Jim Justice.
49:34
He's an obvious rhino who shut down the state during COVID, pushed vaccine
49:37
requirements, MASc your kids, kept schools closed, and spends your money like
49:42
it's his Pushkin says the texture now reaching pathetic desperation mode by trying to tie
49:46
a Boon County girl's death to the governor instead of her mother family a CPS.
49:50
What a pathetic attempt to smear him so that he doesn't take mansion sentence
49:53
seats. Now, I think that you know, there was a great president
49:58
once said the buck stops here, and that's never been the case with Jim
50:00
Justice. And he should take responsibility for his own departments instead of always blaming
50:06
somebody else. And of course we expect personal responsibility and the people responsible will
50:09
be held accountable in the court of law. And you know, I can't
50:14
comment more on that because they're going to go to court. But when you
50:17
hear from the state troopers that they drove directly to the CPS office and reported
50:23
it, and then you hear, well know that we didn't have the report.
50:25
We got to get to the bottom of it, and it would be
50:28
let's have a real investigation instead of pointing fingers, and it's always to me,
50:31
it's just completely despicable when you have the leader, the chief executive who's
50:36
always refuses to take the blame for anything and is quick to find a scapegoat.
50:40
The Democrats nominees for statewide office as a sector do not stand a sliver
50:45
of a chance of wanting to see the public office, period, no other
50:47
way around it. They don't stand a chance. Mike, Well, I
50:52
you know, I think that we do stand a chance because we have quality
50:54
candidates that are actually competent at the jobs that they're running for. I mean,
50:59
we have Mary Anne Clatter running for orders. She's an actual auditor with
51:02
over twenty years of experience. You won't need me on the job training.
51:06
She knows how to do the job. She's running against a career politician.
51:09
You know, you just had jb On here. He's a good guy.
51:13
But if I was going to go to court, I'd want Teresa Torseeva by
51:15
my side. Yeah. The attorney general is the lawyer for the state.
51:20
Teresa's been our lawyer for quite some time. She has fought for pensions for
51:23
first responders, she has fought for underdogs up you know, across this state,
51:29
and one she's representing some of the female cadets that are that are suing
51:32
over being harassed and violated at the state Police Barricks. You're going to go
51:37
through all the cases that Teresa has fought for and won. She's running to
51:42
be the state's attorney. She's been the state's attorney. Give me thirty years,
51:45
give me as we close, give me thirty seconds. On the Trump
51:46
verdict last week, what do you think? Well, I think that a
51:49
jury of his peers found him guilty on thirty four counts, and I think
51:53
it's been to me. It's watching the Republican leaders in this state and around
51:58
the country climb over each other and try to make excuses for that. Let's
52:00
get to the real issue here and what nobody denies. He paid hush money
52:06
to a porn star to cover up his infidelity to his wife. So it's
52:10
a character issue. So you can say, well it was, it shouldn't
52:14
have been a felony this or that. What's the type of what type of
52:16
person do you want leading the country? Somebody that you can't trust at all
52:22
and just does everything for themselves, or somebody a known commodity that you can
52:27
