- 0:15Aron and Aaron and Aaron and there we are, There we are. We're
- 0:25back. We're back this time, We're back. Welcome to sixty six percent
- 0:32of Trek Cast, the Galaxy's most unpredictable Star Trek Podcast. I am one
- 0:38of your hosts. Dan Lombardo with me as always, Daniel, Yes,
- 0:42with us in spirit. Chad Waldo he's in the buffer, yeah, get
- 0:51him out later. He still thinks it's last week. That's right. No
- 0:55time, no time passes, not the buffer, that's right. So that's
- 0:59right. Oh tired, Yeah, tired. I'm so tired. I was
- 1:07on vacation last week. I wasn't here for the show. So you know,
- 1:08we we were down in New Jersey for a few days. We did
- 1:11the six Flags thing, took our pictures in the Hall of Justice. It
- 1:15was great. I put you know what, I posted a picture of that
- 1:19Hall of Justice in a DC Superpowers group and it's been liked fourteen thousand times
- 1:27and it's been shared. It's a public group, so anybody could share the
- 1:30post. It's been shared like fifteen hundred times. It's crazy. It's crazy.
- 1:36Yeah, So, I mean I'm tired from that. I'm also tired.
- 1:38Um. You know, I enrolled my son in karate a couple of
- 1:42weeks ago, and I and I sat through a couple of classes watching him,
- 1:48and it's the same exact style of karate that I took in nineteen ninety
- 1:53four. I'm dating myself here. In nineteen ninety four, I started studying
- 2:00pseudo, which just Korean Korean karate, and after sitting through a few classes,
- 2:05I was like, you know what, I could do this again,
- 2:09So I signed up. I've been to a couple of classes and it's it's
- 2:14great. I'm having a blast, but I am so sore. You're not
- 2:19in there with the kids, are you. Uh yeah, I mean I'm
- 2:23just throwing around ten year olds. No no, no, no, no
- 2:24no no no no no, no, no, no no, there are
- 2:27other adults. I'm in the I'm in the rear of the class with the
- 2:30other adults. He's in the front of the class with the kids. I'm
- 2:35not kicking the crab out of nine year olds, although I mean that would
- 2:38do a lot for my ego, you know, like, well, I'm
- 2:40really good at this. I kicked that guy. Spot. Just hand me
- 2:44that black belt. Yeah, oberkaber Kai, yep, those kids. No
- 2:53mercy. We don't train to be merciful here, No, not at all.
- 3:00But it's good. It's uh, you know, I I struggle with
- 3:05staying in in in shape, and I found that, um, like when
- 3:13I attend any sort of yeah right, like Kramer and Seinfeld, thanks whenever
- 3:20I whenever I attend any paramilitary type training, that's that's the type of exercise
- 3:25that gets me into shape. Yeah. So you know, it's one thing
- 3:30to exercise yourself. It's another thing when someone's standing behind you. Scene do
- 3:35this, do it twenty times, good job, that's twenty more so.
- 3:40Um, it's it's fun. It's fun. I'm motivated for now. They
- 3:44gave me the fancy they gave me the fancy pajamas. Son, I have
- 3:47matching pajamas now. So you know how long till you and your son joined
- 3:52the kumata the what I don't know what that is? You never seen blood
- 3:58sport like in nineteen eighty nine, maybe right. You know what's great though,
- 4:03I you know, I told them that I studied this style of karate
- 4:09twenty nine years ago, and they you know, they quizzed me a little
- 4:13bit to make sure I wasn't full of crap, right, and uh,
- 4:17you know, they said I could retain my old rank, that I could
- 4:21attend a few classes and then you know, to show them that I,
- 4:26you know, can still do some of it, and uh, they'll put
- 4:29me back where I was, so I don't have to start over. So
- 4:31were you starting it? Well? Right now, I'm still a white belt
- 4:34because you know, they want to they want to see you do some stuff.
- 4:36But I should be a green belt shortly. Yeah, I'm excited.
- 4:44I'm excited. Cool, Well we should What about you? What's what's going
- 4:47on with you? Talk for ten minutes? Yeah, yeah, not too
- 4:51much really, just getting ready for the convention. So I've been been really
- 4:59looking into the strike to find out what's going on. Yeah I know,
- 5:03yeah, that's on a lot of Buddy's head. So, uh, is
- 5:06that is that the news story or are we just yeah, yeah, well
- 5:10let's get news all right. So yeah, the big news story is the
- 5:17strike. So I've got a lot of things here laid out, So let
- 5:20me start. Well, I you know, I know a little bit about
- 5:23the strike. Yeah, no, it's strike first strike, hard mercy.
- 5:29That's right, we got that covered. Next story. I believe that is
- 5:31what they are chanting in the picket line. Yeah, it's it's pretty it's
- 5:36pretty wild. Um. So, as people know, the the Writer's Guild
- 5:42has been on strike for a while now a few months and now sag after
- 5:46the Actor's Guild is also now on strike, and so this is impacting a
- 5:51lot. A lot of productions have gone dark. Like I know they said
- 5:57Deadpool three is stop shooting. Basically everything has stopped just about. Um,
- 6:03I know that House of the Dragon season two is still being shot, and
- 6:08that's because those actors are in smaller unions that are local to those areas.
- 6:13So what is that House to the Dragone? Is that it's it's the Game
- 6:17of Thrones spin off. Okay, that's on HBO. Okay yeah, and
- 6:23then, um, the other thing that I have read is there are still
- 6:27some other smaller films still going. Apparently if you're an independent filmmaker and if
- 6:33you file paperwork with the union, you can still do your movie because their
- 6:39their strike is with the big studios not Yeah. So okay, yeah,
- 6:45so there we go. Um, but I did reach out to Creation who
- 6:49puts on STLV, and I asked them how this will impact the convention because
- 6:56according to Variety, the the actors can't go to conventions. That, Yeah,
- 7:02there's a lot of there's a lot of conflicting information out there right now.
- 7:06Yeah, and and nobody. The real answer is nobody's one hundred percent
- 7:13clear. They're still trying to figure it out. But Creation put out a
- 7:17statement. They emailed me this and they said, in regards to the SAG
- 7:21after strike, Creation Entertainment, live events and conventions will continue as planned and
- 7:27do not fall under strike restrictions. If there are any changes to the above,
- 7:31we will announce them moving forward. Yeah, they're gonna announce it the
- 7:34day before when everybody's already in town. Yeah, they're gonnounce it. Yeah.
- 7:41Yeah. So so then trekmovie dot com put out a big article.
- 7:46I'm gonna link to it in the show notes. It basically is how the
- 7:50strike impacts everything down to current productions of Star Trek. Anything that's currently filming
- 7:57is done for now. The the animated stuff may or may not be impacted.
- 8:03It's still kind of up in the air. If those actors are also
- 8:07in this in the Acting Guild, not the Voice Actors Guild, then maybe
- 8:11we're not doing stuff. So yeah, it just kind of depends. Yeah
- 8:18yeah, but as far as well and and the other thing is how strikes
- 8:22work sometimes is these other unions may get involved just to show support and solidarity
- 8:31exactly. You know, this could be a domino effect where all of a
- 8:35sudden, the Sound Guys union, it's like, yeah, you know what,
- 8:39we're not doing anything either. Yeah, and the I don't know,
- 8:43the Key Grips do they have a union? They do actually union? Yeah?
- 8:48Yeah yeah. So um so according to the Trick Movie article, uh,
- 8:56so far what it looks like as far as they can tell um At
- 9:00conventions, the actors can still do like the photo ops and autographs, yeah,
- 9:05because those are considered personal appearances. However, panels would likely be impacted.
- 9:11They could not talk about upcoming projects or current projects. So it might
- 9:16be that they have a panel there's a big announcement, Hey you can't answer,
- 9:22you can't ask these questions, and there you go. Yeah. So
- 9:26I'm wondering how much how much mental gymnastics they're going to do to get around
- 9:35some of these restrictions. Like I could see Anson Mount coming out and saying,
- 9:41hey, guys, great to see everyone. Glad to see you all
- 9:43here in Las Vegas. You're all aware of the writer strike, so when
- 9:48we get to the question phase, feel free to ask me about anything but
- 9:54season two or three of Strange New Worlds, right right, So, um,
- 10:00let's I've got some video prison or presentations here, so let me uh
- 10:05go with this. So let's find out what's going on, because there was
- 10:09actually a convention this weekend in Orlando. I've been keeping an eye on it,
- 10:13you know. It's it's it's the Diaries. I'm sorry, it's what
- 10:20the Vampire Diaries. Oh well, I mean you were going to go to
- 10:22that anyway. So it really wasn't a big goes me or that, you
- 10:26know. But this is actually a pretty good canary in the coal mine for
- 10:33us because our own Captain Kirk was in the Vampire Diaries. Paul Wesley,
- 10:37Oh yeah, I didn't know that. That's him. That's him, that's
- 10:43him right now. He doesn't He doesn't look like Jim Carrey at all in
- 10:46this one. It's a lot of photoshop on there but him, and that's
- 10:50Ian summer Hall. Yeah. I had to look them up. The one
- 10:56that's not Captain Kirk. Okay, I mean, would I know him from
- 11:01anything other than Vampire Diaries? Probably not? Okay, that's his big thing.
- 11:09But so the two of them were supposed to be basically the headliners of
- 11:13this event, right, that's them Big and Brett. I also discovered,
- 11:16having looking this all up, the two of them have a Bourbon line together.
- 11:22Okay, so there you go. So I just wanted to show this.
- 11:26You know that they're the big headliners. They're supposed to be there according
- 11:31to the advertisement. Right. So then I found in summerholtz Instagram account because
- 11:37I wanted to show any evidence that he was there or not. Right,
- 11:41ye, So according to his Instagram, he is in Florida. He brought
- 11:48a bunch of his bourbon. Apparently they were selling drinks at the convention.
- 11:54There he is with all their bourbon. It's called Brothers Bond Bourbon, and
- 12:00he's very excited about it. So cool. So he's he's in Orlando's He's
- 12:03good to go. I even saw pictures of the drinks that said made with
- 12:09Brothers Bond Bourbon. So great. However, Creation has been trying to prove
- 12:18that everything's just fine. So their Twitter account has been nothing but any actor
- 12:24who would show up. Yeah, So if Ian and Paul were there,
- 12:31they most definitely would be in these photos. Yeah, but as you see
- 12:35scrolling through, they're not Yeah, they're not at all. It's the smaller
- 12:43sideline actors who were there who apparently took to the panels, and that is
- 12:48who showed up. M yes, yeah, so the trek Cast, Blood
- 13:01Wine brand nice. Oh I guess Ian was also in Lost, so there
- 13:07you go. Oh yeah, so there have been some other um like uh
- 13:16answer. Mount came out and also said that because originally he thought that he
- 13:20could go to conventions just fine, but he has since come out and said
- 13:24that he has learned that it's not exactly one hundred percent clear, and apparently
- 13:31the convention owners and the union are currently talking to figure out ground rules,
- 13:37so hopefully that changes soon. I feel like, I feel like the universe
- 13:46does not want us to go to this convention. Universe has something against treck
- 13:52Cast returning to its spawning point, right right, we cannot go back to
- 13:58the home water yeah of Las Vegas. Um Also Penny Johnson, who played
- 14:05Cassidy Yates and ye forget her character's name in The Orville she had posted on
- 14:09Instagram that one she's going to be at STLV um, but you know that
- 14:15was also during all the confusion, and so I guess we'll see. Well,
- 14:18I mean again, you know her connection is Deep Space nine, which
- 14:26has been off the air for twenty five years, right, and The Orville,
- 14:31which has not been confirmed for another season, right, So you know
- 14:37her projects are over. Yeah, everything for her is historical, so she
- 14:41could talk about whatever she wants. And if people say, what are you
- 14:43working on next? You know, it's really easy to say, let's talk
- 14:48about that next year, yeah, because nobody wants to hear about that anyway.
- 14:50There just being polite. Yeah, yeah, So um, that's where
- 15:00we're at with things. So it's very much we have to keep an eye
- 15:03on it. We'll see what's going on. Um. But if the actors
- 15:07don't go, if a lot of them, because from what I've read,
- 15:11it's a lot of if they feel comfortable or if they don't just skip it,
- 15:16So it could be that a lot of them skip it, you know.
- 15:18Yeah, Um, I guess we'll see. But are there other are
- 15:26there other conventions between now and then for us to keep an eye on and
- 15:28see how they how they go. Well, there's comic Con. Yeah,
- 15:35but everybody pretty much pulled out a comic CON's right, and a lot of
- 15:39the actors for an unknown reason, I don't know why. Well, and
- 15:43specifically SAG has already said don't go to comic Con because comic Con is just
- 15:48a commercial at this point, right, So, so they're not going to
- 15:52that by default. Um no, No, I mean even the studios.
- 15:58I remember, you know, for the last month or two hearing about you
- 16:02know, Marvel is not doing anything at comic Con and uh, you know
- 16:07yeah, and that's been for a few reasons. One is that the studios
- 16:11love doing their own conventions now, like they're D twenty three's and all that.
- 16:18Um so, so they'd rather do that, they'd rather not share the
- 16:19news cycle with the other studios. Um yeah, no DC, as Jaspis
- 16:25says, yes, they're not. But the other thing is the um yeah.
- 16:30The other thing though, is the writer strike's been going for a while,
- 16:33so projects have been positive no matter what, right because no developments happening.
- 16:37So that that's kind of the other reason why they all pulled out a
- 16:42comic Con. But now with the strike, it's kind of like their bigger
- 16:45excuse um as far as STLV and and and Comic Con, though producers can
- 16:52still go as long as they're not also on SAG. So you know,
- 16:57at STLV we could get the current it's been power hour and talk about you
- 17:03know, everything that's going on, Yeah, what everybody wants. I don't
- 17:07know. Yeah, I might jump off the top of the stratosphere if I
- 17:11have to sit through an hour that allybody several hours because they got time to
- 17:15fill um. So I haven't looked at my itinerary in a while. I
- 17:21don't remember exactly what dates I'm out there, but I may end up plowing
- 17:26it back a little bit, yeah, because I know, I you know,
- 17:32I know I'm there for the four days of the convention, and I
- 17:37scheduled a significant amount of time I don't remember if it was before or after
- 17:41to do other vacation e type vegacy type stuff. And not to put too
- 17:48fine a point on it, but if the convention sucks, I'm not going
- 17:52to stay there for ten hours a day. Yeah, we'll go do other
- 17:59fun things were while we're out there, which means I won't need to be
- 18:02there another three or four days. Well that that and Like my thought was,
- 18:07if it's gonna suck, I don't want to pay for three days of
- 18:11the convention. So just walk around and middle around. I'll pay for a
- 18:15day. We go, spend one day there and then you know, did
- 18:19we did you buy tickets to the convention? Yeah? I already did.
- 18:22Yeah, Oh I did too, Yeah I think Yeah, I don't know.
- 18:26I gotta go look at it was months ago all this stuff. Yeah,
- 18:30well, I mean it's paid. What's paid for is paid for.
- 18:32They're not going to give you a refund. I know. I know.
- 18:34They'll give you a now I've been down this road with them before, give
- 18:41you a Yeah, they'll give you a Creation Entertainment gift card. It's like,
- 18:45what am I gonna do with this? Oh you can buy a million
- 18:48autographs? Yeah I know? And yeah yeah, well if it's that convention
- 18:56and we refund a couple of days, that's a couple of autographs. Yeah,
- 19:00that's true. I don't know if they're gonna I don't know if they're
- 19:03gonna yeah, I don't know. I don't know if they're gonna give be
- 19:04anything. But you know what the other thing is, um, you know,
- 19:11the convention is not just about the actors, right, it's about the
- 19:17other fans. So I'm looking forward to seeing other fans. I'm looking forward
- 19:22to surrounding myself with five thousand other people who love Star Trek uh just as
- 19:29much as I do. So and you know, I'm still going, yeah,
- 19:33yeah, yeah, for sure, still going, still gonna do my
- 19:37best to enjoy it. Well, now it may be less people because they
- 19:40all may be like, oh, the actors aren't gonna be there to forget
- 19:41it. Yeah yeah, all right. So that's that's the latest on the
- 19:48strike. I play blackjack too. That dab dabo. We'll find a dabo
- 19:55table. There we go. Our next news story comes to us from trekmovie
- 19:57dot com and Star Trek piccard has been nominated for two Emmys. So the
- 20:03Emmy nominations came out earlier this week. It feels like a million years ago,
- 20:07but yes they did. And so Star Trek McCard was nominated for two
- 20:11Emmys for Outstanding Contemporary Makeup Non Prosthetic and then also for Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup.
- 20:19So there you go. That's their two and only Emmy. Yeah yeah,
- 20:27yeah, So a lot of people thought they'd get more than that, but
- 20:33yeah, such is not the case. I mean not to take it dump
- 20:36on the people who did makeup for Star Trek piccard, but you know we
- 20:42don't. We don't talk about the makeup on this show once a week,
- 20:45right, right. It's not one of the high awards for sure. Yeah.
- 20:49Yeah, so disappointing. I thought they could have gotten something at least.
- 20:53But yeah, And our last new story comes to us from Digital Spy
- 20:59and Star Trek Strange New World's Ants Amount addresses mcu return. Apparently he did
- 21:06an interview recently before the strike and he was talking about all sorts of different
- 21:11things, and he did mention that he would love to come back as Black
- 21:15Bolt. That nothing is going on so far. He is not in any
- 21:19talks with Marvel. He did mention, and he kind of gave the cheek
- 21:23code here. He said that if if he was in conversations with them,
- 21:30he would have to say that he could not say anything. But since he
- 21:33is not in conversations with he is free to say that he is not in
- 21:37conversations. So there you go. That is the cheek out, like saying,
- 21:41you know, I'm telling the truth and I'm not lying about that.
- 21:45That's right, that's the logic work. Yeah, yeah, I just thought
- 21:52it was funny. But yeah, so that's all our news stories. Okay,
- 21:57yeah, all right, main topic. Sure, fun will now so
- 22:11confession, Oh okay, only watched it once this week. I've been Yeah,
- 22:18I've been so busy. I didn't do my I didn't do my quick
- 22:21reaction. I've been a bad boy. I've been Yeah. No, you're
- 22:26not the only one who's given up on the quick reactions. I didn't.
- 22:29I didn't give up. I didn't give up. Okay, I didn't get
- 22:32to it this week. Fully intended two just didn't happen. My uh,
- 22:40my iPad has given me the hey you're low on power thing, So it's
- 22:45plugged in. It's plugged in. Um, I'm gonna plug it into a
- 22:49different chord because that one's frayed. Well, let me read the uh the
- 22:55log line while you're doing that. So episode two five Sharradeum. The log
- 23:02line is a shuttle accident leads to spots vulcan DNA being removed by aliens,
- 23:07making him fully human and completely unprepared to face Tupring's family during an important ceremonial
- 23:15dinner. M Yeah, so there you go. This was another episode of
- 23:21Hijinks to Happen between the the Tapril and spok episodes. Yeah, yeah,
- 23:30So what did you think of it? You know, it was fun.
- 23:33I had fun watched it. Um. You know, I don't mind Star
- 23:38Trek comedy when Star Trek is the comedy when they're when they're making fun of,
- 23:48you know, the franchise itself. You know, someone from the outside
- 23:53who's never seen Star Trek before and doesn't know what a vulcan is, they
- 24:00don't get the jokes in this episode. And that's why I'm okay with it.
- 24:03It's not comedy for comedy's sake. It's comedy because you understand it,
- 24:10because you understand these characters and you understand these themes and what's going on in
- 24:15this universe. So that kind of comedy, you know, I enjoy that.
- 24:18Yeah, I enjoy that, you know. I mean, it's things
- 24:22as simple as and I think I've said this before, but you know Captain
- 24:27Bicard nervously talking to the Admiral while there's a Captain Bicard, Captain Bcard day
- 24:33banner in the background, right, and then he nervously says, I'm a
- 24:38role model and she's like, yeah, you certainly are, and hangs up
- 24:41the phone. You know that kind of comedy if you don't know who he
- 24:45is, you don't know how uncomfortable he is around children in social settings.
- 24:51You know that kind of comedy. I'm okay with. Yeah, the comedy
- 24:57I based out of the situation, not to make fun of it. Yes,
- 25:02yeah, yes, you know Spock gorging himself on on bacon, but
- 25:07first acknowledging what that amazing smell is, you know, And and at first
- 25:15you're like, all right, so he's never had bacon because he's a vulcan.
- 25:18No, he's never had bacon because Vulcans are vegetarians. And the idea
- 25:22of a vegetarian suddenly shoving bacon in his face because it smells amazing, you
- 25:30know that his TV mom or the same age, it seems that way.
- 25:38She looks like Amy Adams. Yeah, kind of. Every time I look
- 25:42at her, I'm like, is that it? No, it's not it?
- 25:45Is it? No? Oh no, it's not. So I did
- 25:48have one problem here, Um to Pring's dad is um, well, I
- 26:00mean, obviously, to Pring's mom, where's the ears in the family.
- 26:03That's that's easy enough to that's easy enough to see, but he seemed pretty
- 26:10emotional. Yeah, especially especially when his wife is standing there giving the second
- 26:21lead on our show The Business for not being vulcan enough. I mean,
- 26:27just like when he got excited about the food, yeah, and whatnot.
- 26:32Excitement is an emotion, and you know, I like the little the little
- 26:36comedy, like when he asks for more of the whatever they was, you
- 26:40know, yeah, when he's like, do you have any more of those
- 26:42red lobster cheddar biscuits? And Pike is just like he snaps his fingers and
- 26:48what's like, I got you like this? I get a handle this.
- 26:52He wants biscuits. I'll go get a biscuits, you know, just seeing
- 26:57the excitement in Pike's face that you know, the you know, you know
- 27:02the mom to Pring's mom took a crap all over the meal right right to
- 27:07see that. The other guy is like, you know, no, this
- 27:08is good. I'm just you know, a complete cuck or whatever the word
- 27:12is that I hear. Yeah, yeah, he wanted yeah, and the
- 27:21guy was he was clearly more laid back and just wanted to have fun and
- 27:26yeah, so yeah yeah, um ty Jay says the first three episodes were
- 27:32pretty poor, but the last two have been a return to form. Yeah,
- 27:36I don't know, pretty poor, but yes, a dip. Yeah,
- 27:40a dip. I would say it tip, Yeah, but I would
- 27:44I would say it dip. Jasmins typical mother in law. Yeah yeah,
- 27:52yeah she was. She was not fun. Yeah, but yeah. Um
- 27:57I also thought the episode was a lot of fun. Um. I did
- 28:00see an article that I thought was kind of interesting. I forget where I
- 28:03saw the article, but um. They said that one of the things that
- 28:07was really special about this episode is Vulcans have always been more or less um
- 28:15coded for for neurodivergion or autistic, and really that's how some people feel it
- 28:22about it. And so when Spok had that vulcanness removed and he was more
- 28:29outgoing and funny and emotional that none of the characters said, hey, you're
- 28:34better now, we like you more now. They all kind of were like,
- 28:38we miss spokor great the way you were. So the articles saying like
- 28:45it was cool to show that, you know, so I thought that was
- 28:48neat Okay, yeah, oh so there you go. Brunson looked up the
- 28:52ages spoks mom is forty eight ethan fact Spok is thirty. So yeah,
- 28:59I mean the numbers track. So Spock screaming into a pillow. Yeah,
- 29:08that's what I mean. That that type of comedy. Okay, anybody gets
- 29:11he's mad, he's in the next room. He doesn't want them to hear
- 29:15he's screaming into a pillow. It's funny on the surface, it's funny or
- 29:18knowing that he is a vulcan. He is a vulcan and shouldn't have any
- 29:22reaction and should not have been doing any of that. Yeah. Yeah,
- 29:27um, I did you know, as I suffered for the people. I
- 29:30watched the Jess Bush interview on the Will Wheaton Show. She talked a little
- 29:36bit about this episode. One of the things that thought was interesting is she
- 29:40talked about that, you know in the in the end where the climax where
- 29:45she goes to talk to those aliens blue and yellow and all those yea.
- 29:48Um. She said that that scene was shot months later because they shot it
- 29:56completely out of order. Okay, And so I thought that was kind of
- 29:59cool. Also kind of to my theory about Hey, everything with Pike in
- 30:02the first part of the season, they kind of shot around. Um.
- 30:06The other thing she said is because they were using the the volume or whatever
- 30:11that they called the paramount version of it. Um with the big wall behind
- 30:15them. Oh okay, yeah, they basically had a screen saver behind them
- 30:18the way that it was all animating. Yea, um, and the camera
- 30:23adjusts to where wherever she says. That thing just really messed with the peripherals
- 30:30for them because it was so like water just about that. Yeah, it
- 30:34really took it out of them. So yeah, okay, yeah, but
- 30:41um yeah. We did see also a big development for Spock and Nurse Chapel
- 30:47this episode, as to as Spoking to bring her now on a break and
- 30:52so break that's right, just just like in Friends and uh and there we
- 31:00go, Spok and Nurse Chapel got together. So I saw a meme where
- 31:07they replaced Spok's little beanie cap there with with the old um yes, the
- 31:14Spok helmet from the same yea, what was that? I just hit my
- 31:18thing? Oh all right, I thought that was for mood or something like.
- 31:23But they replaced his hat with that Spok helmet toy. That made no
- 31:30sense. So they you know, they missed, they missed an opportunity to
- 31:33bring it into live action cannon oh the go, But there you go.
- 31:37I did see one where it was that where he's like, oh, it's
- 31:40regulation, he's got that helmet, and then it cuts to Pike also wearing
- 31:44it. He's like, yeah, it's regulation. So there's been some great
- 31:49memes about that at Yeah. But um, yeah, man, what do
- 31:53you think is gonna happen moving forward? Because if they're together, that's a
- 31:57different dynamic. So here's the thing. Yeah, Um, a month ago,
- 32:06I would have said, well, we know it's not going to work
- 32:07out because we know how things go and they don't end up together. But
- 32:17also, you know, con is nine years old in twenty twenty three,
- 32:22so we're we're watching an alternate timeline. So yeah, see that sounded like
- 32:29a gong I think the next matches starting, Oh yeah, the Gong show
- 32:32there you go? Or is that the next match from uh? Was it
- 32:37a mock time where they we're fighting on the right bump bump, bump bump.
- 32:46Yeah. So I don't know. They've kind of threw us a curveball
- 32:50with this reviving the temporal Cold War idea, and I'm not so certain that
- 32:58we know how everything's going to work out, which is kind of counter to
- 33:07what Season one showed us that Pike has this fate that he just cannot escape
- 33:12no matter what he does, and if he does, it's going to muck
- 33:15up the timeline. Well what difference does it make? Right as of last
- 33:21week, there's there's hundreds of people mucking up the timeline all over the place.
- 33:24So who's to say that this is the one true timeline? So I
- 33:30don't know. Yeah, they are unshackled by Cannon. Indeed they are.
- 33:36They can literally do anything they want as they've always wanted. Yeah, yeah,
- 33:40so it's uh, I guess we'll see. I don't know how I
- 33:46feel about like having a couple on the Enterprise and like, are they going
- 33:53to do weird hijinks where they're randomly making out all the time or you know,
- 33:59Um, I don't know. We haven't seen the fallout from this episode
- 34:07yet. Sure, am I imagine that Spot is pretty embarrassed about the events
- 34:16of this episode now that he's vulcan again and he has the memories of what
- 34:22he did as a human for those three days or whatever it was. Yeah,
- 34:25I imagine he's even I imagine he's he's embarrassed and he's going to redouble
- 34:32his efforts to be the vulcanist vulcan that he can, other than laying it
- 34:39to Christine after work in his quarters or her quarters or whatever private place they
- 34:47can secure. It was weird to me how much he forgot about being a
- 34:53vulcan once that DNA got out of him, Like he didn't know how the
- 34:58ritual worked. He didn't, you know, Um, what do you mean
- 35:05he didn't know how the ritual works? What do you mean by that?
- 35:07Because they were His mom was like, okay, at this point of the
- 35:10dinner, this happens. At that point of the dinner, that happens.
- 35:15I don't, yeah, okay, Like he didn't know. I didn't.
- 35:19I didn't get that feeling that he didn't know. I got the feeling that
- 35:22they were doing dry runs to practice because you know, he's you know,
- 35:29I likened it to um, you know, when a woman is pregnant and
- 35:35she has all these different hormones going through her body and it affects her personality,
- 35:39and she's crying about things that she wouldn't normally cry about, or she's
- 35:44appreciative of things that she wouldn't normally be appreciative of. I kind of likened
- 35:49it to that, he's just super emotional, right because he's We know,
- 35:52he's always had emotions. It's true, and they always had emotions. Um,
- 35:58they're just not in check anymore, right because he's because he's human.
- 36:05Yeah, like his his mind is used to suppressing vulcan emotions. And sure,
- 36:13you know now I have human emotions. I've never tried to suppress human
- 36:16emotions before. This is different. This is difficult, and my brain chemistry
- 36:21is different. My brain is physically different. I have a human brain now,
- 36:24I don't have a vulcan human hybrid brain. Right, So yeah,
- 36:31I guess I don't know. Maybe I just misread it, you know.
- 36:36Then again, I only watched it once. I could be completely wrong.
- 36:38Sameyically, that's all I do. I'll watch it again. Didn't watch him
- 36:44say, uh yeah, I don't remember any of this shit. I'd be
- 36:46like, all right, I guess Daniel was right. I was wrong there.
- 36:52Yeah, I guess we'll see. But I just also watched the preview
- 36:55for next week. There's kind of, um, you know, not much
- 36:59to that review. M Pelly's back, Carol Kane. So that's basically it.
- 37:07They're working on some engineering problem in the preview. Okay, yeah.
- 37:14Um, yeah, anything else you want to bring about the episode before we
- 37:17go? No, I mean I'm probably forgetting a bunch. Like I said,
- 37:23I only watched it once, but I'll watch it again. Let's see,
- 37:28I did find a list of um Easter eggs, so let me go
- 37:32through this real quick. Yeah. Um, the Vulcan Science Academy, which
- 37:37has been mentioned in multiple things, that's true. Um, the Archaeological Medicine
- 37:45was something from the original series, something that was mentioned. So cool.
- 37:51I like how the guy from the Science Academy was really interested in her discovery
- 37:57and she was like, yeah, f you you can read the paper like
- 38:00everybody else. Yeah, yeah, yeah, good for her. Yeah um
- 38:07yeah. Basically that's it. We've we've covered the main ones. So well
- 38:12let's let's get to feedback. We have some people already waiting ready to go,
- 38:15so all right, hey, if I uh, if I lose power,
- 38:27I'll be back on a device. Just just hank tight. Sounds good?
- 38:30All right, Well, let's get a chasmins up and up in here.
- 38:35Since he was first there he is. There's nice like he's about to
- 38:39land a plane. What's going on? Man? Ad on much? It's
- 38:50like this writer's strike and actors strike kind of sucks. Well, just so
- 38:55you know that the Treck cast riders are the remaining on the job. It's
- 39:01not unionized. I guess no, we're just a bunch of scabs. Yeah
- 39:07yeah, because that's gonna mess up like a bunch of the Star Trek things
- 39:13coming up. Well, what's different is this is next year last writers strike,
- 39:17which is in the early two thousands, because that happened mid season for
- 39:22a lot of things. So at least like now, well now we're in
- 39:27the universe, so there's really not a mid season anymore because it's it's kind
- 39:31of these show's premiere different times of the year. That's true. The other
- 39:38thing I was reading is that, um, the studios don't want to like
- 39:42hurry up and end this thing. Their their goal is to starve everyone out.
- 39:45Yeah. Um, they're not expected to go back to the to the
- 39:51negotiating table, to the fall. So this this could be a long thing.
- 39:57I'm wondering if the I think they're gonna end at the same time I
- 40:01think they're gonna yeah yeah, Um, I'm wondering if we're going to get
- 40:08something from the unions asking asking us to pitch in and cancel our all our
- 40:15streaming, uh well our streaming, at which point, um, you know,
- 40:25like I'm teetering on the cliff. I just need someone to suggest that
- 40:30to me, and I'll go kids l half of these things yea from being
- 40:36canceled for me. Yeah, so there are there are some I mean nobody's
- 40:40said this, but there are people talking about how a lot of these studios
- 40:45aren't just a studio anymore, right, They're part of a giant conglomerate.
- 40:51So the reason they're fighting so hard against this strike is they don't want their
- 40:55other industries impacted because then those workers could see what happened for the Hollywood workers
- 41:01and then all of a sudden, you know, like Amazon, right,
- 41:04they've been fighting unions for a while now, if all of a sudden their
- 41:07actors make a lot more money, that's gonna inspire the warehouse. That's that's
- 41:15the fear. But yeah, I guess we'll see, Yeah, exactly.
- 41:21Well, it just sucks for development for next year because on these strange New
- 41:25World's going to be pushed back next year, and then um, lower decks
- 41:30because of the animation lower dex might be okay or pretty close to it.
- 41:36Well, well they have you can't act. I understand that maybe the acting
- 41:40part, but the writing part because you didn't have to animate. That animation
- 41:45takes so long to do to animate, so you have to write it well
- 41:49in advance. So it could be at the stage where they're just finishing up
- 41:53the animation and need to edit, So we might be okay, because to
- 41:59get to the animation you need to record all the lines ahead of time,
- 42:01so all that audio would be done, all the storyboards would be done.
- 42:06It's just putting it together at this point, so we might get lower DECKX
- 42:10unless those other unions jump in, right, that's the thing. Yeah,
- 42:16like the animators right now, they're they're underpaid, and then all the CG
- 42:22artists they're they're always getting fired from jobs. So I could say them unitizing
- 42:27and creating havoc. I did read that what is it? Disney is going
- 42:34to put Miss Marble on Miss Marvel and ABC because they need new content for
- 42:39their TV network. So they do have a backlog of shows that they can
- 42:44throw on the Mandalorian on there, and yeah they could on ABC just get
- 42:50people watching, right, and that would be all brand new content for the
- 42:53for the TV. So they've got some some reasons to hold out as well.
- 42:58So it's gonna be the same thing with CBS, and showed what the
- 43:04audiences starts showing the star treks on there, I mean the Last Strike Parent
- 43:07or during COVID Paramount aired one season of Discovery. They can go back to
- 43:10that. Well, they've got all the strange worlds, they've got all Discovery
- 43:15and they're they're good in that respect. Yeah. So yeah, and you
- 43:22got all the Tyler shirt and shows. You can show all the yellow Stones
- 43:27and all the yellow Stones Tyler, I forget whatever he makes cowboys shows.
- 43:36Scott says, what up nerds? Up nerds? Oh, I gotta say
- 43:40this because it staring me in the face. Scott sent me some class playing
- 43:45cards and they are fantastic. So yes, thank you very much for these.
- 43:52Scott made most about him in the group. But yeah, we're gonna
- 43:57what are we gonna play? Oh man, go fish? Sure, old
- 44:04maid? Who's the joker? Uh? That one is gentry okay, But
- 44:14the one everyone seems to like is the queen. And then Scott also made
- 44:23himself the Queen is great great oh and the Queen Queen of Trucks, the
- 44:35Queen of dreck ass next week. Next week, I'm gonna remind him that
- 44:42he's the queen of treck cast. Absolutely, let's find a sect or something,
- 44:47a crown and acepter that might be a T shirt. Chad the Queen
- 44:52of dreck Cass. Hey, since you're since, since you're hosting this stream
- 44:59yard think and you can you edit our names or can we only edit our
- 45:04names? Could you edit his name to be to be uh yeah, try
- 45:07minus if you hit a mine or something, Chad Chadwin, Queen Chadwin of
- 45:12truck Casts. Doesn't look like it. Oh it's too badly would be so
- 45:17funny. Just changed his name on there, all right, by Scott see
- 45:22yuh all right, So jazz Biz, would you think of the episode?
- 45:25I liked it and it's like remind me of like, well, kind of
- 45:30like the old episodes. So used to like the Farrangie episodes. Anytime you
- 45:37like Cork and Odo would be doing something, I'd be kind of funny or
- 45:40are the magnificent Pharrangie, Like there's always funny stuff on Today's nine. That's
- 45:46the great episode. I love that one. Yeah, And that's what it
- 45:52kind of reminded me of and and like Voyager had some of them, so
- 45:55didn't you know t and like the holiday episodes like anytime would be a little
- 46:01crazy, and this one was like, Ah, it's like we're kind of
- 46:07having fun with the episode. And that's what I miss is about episodic television
- 46:14instead of serialized, that you could do episode like this and have fun,
- 46:19where Discovery was too much emotions and this is whatever, Like you could show
- 46:25different planets, have fun, different characters, and then we're getting to know
- 46:31more of the cast too, which is nice. Yeah, that's true,
- 46:35we are getting to know them better. Yeah, I gotta say it's toal
- 46:38On man, she's been in every episode or a law On Yeah, law
- 46:45has been I don't think of to Prink and lat On has been in every
- 46:50episode she has. Yeah, I was like, so her focus like has
- 46:58been mainly on her all seasons. So I wonder if something's gonna happen with
- 47:02the Gorn. Maybe maybe you're just gonna get that. I'm just gonna get
- 47:07that uh union thing spinoff that everyone's been asked before. Oh yeah, she'll
- 47:13be in that section thirty one spin off that they keep talking about. All
- 47:17these we could spin off Are they gonna blame it on the on the writers
- 47:22strike? Are they finally gonna put a put a put a fork in that
- 47:24one? I mean, this could kill Star Trek Academy or serf let Academy.
- 47:30Yeah, and I think that's gonna kill a bunch of these shows,
- 47:31like the Marble shows. It's gonna kill. It's gonna kill like Star Wars
- 47:38movie shows, anything they have predicted by the futures. Honestly, Manny could
- 47:44kill it kill, it could kill Legacy. Any hopes for that? Yeah,
- 47:49Yeah, that's that's the one everybody wants right now, is Legacy.
- 47:52That's when everyone wants, and it may not happen. We gotta accept that.
- 47:57We got spoking and being eat this episode because trad no ears. And
- 48:01I guarantee you they're gonna sell that beanie. So yeah, it's fine,
- 48:07I'm down. I'll buy the beanie. I love a good beanie. Yeah,
- 48:12I mean, I've got a beanie, but it's it's different. Yeah,
- 48:15yeah, Jasmine, anything else we should I like that Sparkles ocd this
- 48:24episode. Yeah, he couldn't stand hurt, just leaving his crash out yep.
- 48:34And that was great because he's just like enjoy all that trash. Yes,
- 48:38it's like you throw that crap away. It's like my wife getting onto
- 48:45me. Go an welcome to the therapy, Chasmin. Yes, yes,
- 48:55sleep, she's not worker, so don't worry. All right, Well,
- 49:01awesome man, Well thanks for being on the show. We should pivot though,
- 49:06because we have also apparently Ross is here with us. Nice were on
- 49:16a break, that's right. Oh yeah, the first thing I thought of
- 49:23when I saw that, Oh dude, that is at my My neighbor is
- 49:30walking up to my my front door to drop something off. And it's the
- 49:35neighbor who listens to the show, so you know, he knows exactly what's
- 49:38going on. Nice Nice. Uh, what do you think of the episode?
- 49:46I liked it. Um, I think probably wasn't the wrong spot in
- 49:52the season because usually follow up some like an episode like this after a pretty
- 49:58heavy episode or something. Last week was was okay, I think as far
- 50:02as mix up, but I'm just thinking how much comedy they have planned this
- 50:07season, and especially with the Lower Decks cross overcoming and what seasons episode seven.
- 50:13Yeah, I think they were yeah, just kind of aligning it.
- 50:16But now I was I was thinking that it was a theory. I house
- 50:21already wonders were we done that much of a high coming off of such a
- 50:25great episode or season of that Picard season three, that it's kind of painting
- 50:31our perception of how strange New Worlds has been, and as that wears off,
- 50:38the episodes are getting better. So I'm kind of curious if I go
- 50:42back and watch it at the end of the season and we watch it,
- 50:45if I opinions would change in the first half, I guess I would say,
- 50:47but this episode was great. Um, Yeah, I think there's a
- 50:53couple of things. I think, Dan, you mentioned the the Spring's dad
- 50:58where he did see less Vulcan than I would have expected. Yeah, but
- 51:02I'm wondering if it kind of works though, because Dupring's not a typical Vulcan,
- 51:07especially that she's okay with the human stuff or spots half human sights.
- 51:13So I wonder if you know the reason why Duprill is the way she is
- 51:16is because she's kind of overcompensating in that sense. Well, there's also people,
- 51:22there's also people in this world who are not happy unless they're miserable,
- 51:25So you know, she may she may be the type of wife that that's
- 51:30her existence it's given her husband shit and that's what makes her happy that I
- 51:37do wax on wax. Let me tell you something. Yes, it's it's
- 51:44it's tough. It's tough being in a karate studio wearing a karate uniform and
- 51:50your name is Daniel. It was tough the first time, and it's tough
- 51:53twenty nine years later to get a little drum and there was a little a
- 52:00little drum focus you. Okay, you know what. I'm gonna learn a
- 52:06whole bunch of stuff between now in August. They're gonna kick your ass with
- 52:09it when I'm gonna get when done correctly, No can defend No can defend
- 52:23you. Guys didn't teach you everything though, No, it's right. I
- 52:30spent some time in u o'kanella to learn all the rest of it. That's
- 52:35next summer, Yeah, summer, Oh boy. Yeah, I don't know.
- 52:44I was planning to go a stov but I did have a vacation um
- 52:49that we were family vacation on leaving Sunday. So I don't know if I'm
- 52:52going to be. That's where I'm kind of been more on the fence now
- 52:55than I was, So we'll see. Yeah, But if anything, I
- 53:00I was printing out some stuff for you folks, but if anything, I
- 53:02may have to mail it, so we'll see, okay, okay, but
- 53:07yeah, I guy separately. I don't know it's gonna be. I honestly
- 53:09think stov is gonna be one of those things that we just had to keep
- 53:13an eye on and see what's going on. But yeah, you know my
- 53:19forty I have a forty hour cancelation. We'll see at the room. So
- 53:22there you go, there you go. Yeah, I think I have a
- 53:28twenty four hour cancelation process policy. But yeah, Dan said that he is
- 53:36going to minimize his stay most likely, and I might do the same thing,
- 53:42honestly, because if we're only at the convention for a day or two,
- 53:45then yeah, I'll look at the dates. Well we'll figure it out.
- 53:50Yeah, well you and yeah, yeah, if you want to,
- 53:55we'll be there. Yeah I'm going. I'm going one, yeah, for
- 54:00sure, for sure. So it's the question is not whether I'm going,
- 54:04it's how long will I be there and how much trek will I be involved
- 54:07in? But there's you know, it's Las Vegas, man, there's other
- 54:10ships too. Within hang out with a bunch of nerds for a week.
- 54:16I just want to here for a while. What's that? I want to
- 54:21watch the sphere for a while. I think looks amazing. What is that?
- 54:24I keep seeing memes about that? And yeah, I called you Ross.
- 54:29That's right. It's it is a giant globe that is going to be
- 54:34an arena for for events. Right from what I understand, it'll hold like
- 54:38fifteen thousand people. But the outside is covered in LED monitors, so they
- 54:44can make it do anything. Really, yeah, so they could turn it
- 54:49in that star. They just need to write file to correct. I've seen
- 54:52a giant eyeball. I've seen it like a basketball. Yes, well a
- 54:58wolf says welcome back, Daniel one um. Yeah. And then of course
- 55:02I've seen a bunch of fake ones too, right, Like I saw one
- 55:06where people were playing Mario Kart on it um, which would be amazing.
- 55:10Are you saying that the Borg finally adopted clothing technology on their spheres and our
- 55:16infiltrate you could make it a Borg sphere. That'd be amazing. Oh I
- 55:21bet it will be during the convention. Oh well, who owns this thing?
- 55:28I don't know who owns it, not the Rio. I'll tell you
- 55:30that, oh boy. But yeah, yeah, it's it's a neat thing.
- 55:39The actual arena is not yet open, but it will be soon.
- 55:43So okay, but anything else you want to bring up? Run just one
- 55:52last thing. Our Vulcans are telepathic, right, yes, and and I
- 55:58think it's been established in some previous episodes somewhere I can't remember that they can.
- 56:01They don't need to mind meld to be able to read minds or anything
- 56:04like that. So I was just surprised how no one had, even Dupring
- 56:10didn't have a sense something was off with Spot because they're telepathic. I know
- 56:15they're not empathic, but I telepathic. I was wondering about that. I
- 56:19always thought they were tactile telepaths. Yeah, that's what I thought. They
- 56:27have to touch it. That's why the mind meld involves touching the face.
- 56:31Yeah. For some reason, I thought there was an episode where they were
- 56:36actually telepathically communicating with somebody. And I don't know if it was like a
- 56:39throwaway episode or something, and that might be what's messing me up. I
- 56:44think it's one of those things like, Okay, so Deanna Troy is not
- 56:50a telepath, she's an EmPATH, but she could talk to her mom telepathically
- 56:54because her mom is a telepath Okay, I see, So you have to
- 57:02have the CEB to work. Somebody has to have a powerful transmitter. If
- 57:07you're both receivers, it doesn't work, right, all right, that makes
- 57:14sense? Awesome, all right, all right, well thank thanks? Yeah?
- 57:22Thanks? All right? Man, Um, anything else you want to
- 57:25bring up before we wrap it up? Um? Do you watching Secret Invasion?
- 57:34I am watching Secret Invasion? Yeah, what do you What do you
- 57:37think of it so far? Um? I think it's pretty interesting. Yeah,
- 57:44Um, I think it's very okay. I think it's very okay.
- 57:49And I think when your universe gets too big, you run into problems like,
- 57:57well, why isn't it call so and so right? Why doesn't he
- 58:01call Thor? Why doesn't he called the Guardians of the Galaxy? You know,
- 58:06why doesn't he do this? Why does he? Do? You know?
- 58:07You're you're Nick Fury. You have access to all of these super people.
- 58:13Why wouldn't you reach out to them to assist you in this? Why
- 58:15would you handle it on your own? H darylss Troy was talking to Ryker
- 58:22telepathically and t and when they met on the Enterprise, Yeah, and then
- 58:27they never did that again. She also called him Bill right, Yes,
- 58:35that never happened again either. So what was the last message that was up
- 58:38there? Oh, let's see, could a vulcan block a blocked the force
- 58:44from taking over their mind? So I asked that, and uh, I
- 58:46asked that in the Facebook group, if a vulcan could uh could could uh
- 58:52prevent a force choke? You sing the vulcan nerve pinch, And then I
- 58:55theorized that, you know, Star Trek telepaths are just they're really just for
- 59:01sensitive. They just don't know what the forces there you go. Yeah,
- 59:07so my wife calls me there you go? Yes, guys, Well,
- 59:16um, yeah, I think I think his secret invasions. Okay, I
- 59:22think the reveal of ROADI as a scroll was kind of badly done. But
- 59:28you know, what are you gonna do? Yeah? So yeah, um,
- 59:35well, I mean we make get the real ROADI at the end of
- 59:37the the run that's right, turned towards coming back. Well, they originally
- 59:49swamped him out because he was too expensive, but now the tables have turned.
- 59:52I'm sure don cheatles more expensive, So swamping back out, baby,
- 59:55swam out. They're interchangeable, that's right, that's right. They they get
- 1:00:01rid of Samuel Jackson and they bring in Laurence Fishburne there, just as long
- 1:00:10as he calls every character neo for no reason. Oh man, Yeah,
- 1:00:17all right. Well I'm planning to go see the tom Cruise Quest for Death
- 1:00:22film. Um, the secret of our mission I bossible later today. You
- 1:00:27know, I haven't seen any I think I saw the first one, and
- 1:00:30yeah, the five when it came out, I don't think i've seen it.
- 1:00:34How many of them are there now? It's like seven or eight?
- 1:00:36Oh my god. Yeah, they're good, are they They're really good.
- 1:00:42They're solid, They're very solid. Um. It's one of those that like
- 1:00:46I never like want to see them, and then I watch them like,
- 1:00:50dude, this is a great time. All right, I'll have to check
- 1:00:52them. That's like Bond. I've never seen a Bond film. I've only
- 1:00:57seen like a handful, um, not one. Yeah all right, well
- 1:01:02cool man. Well, thanks everybody for watching the show. We'll be back
- 1:01:07next week. Bye bye. This is Captain Benjamin Cisco of Deep Space nine
