That's a perfect lead-in. Today we're talking about the weather in German. Luna: Weather! I could use some sunshine vocab. So, how do you say 'sun'? Lucas: Die Sonne. Try it: dee ZON-nuh. Luna: Die Sonne. Lucas: Yes! Now, if it's sunny, you say: Es ist sonnig. Es ist sonnig. Luna: Es ist sonnig. Lucas: Perfect. So die Sonne is the sun, and sonnig is sunny. Luna: Die Sonne, sonnig. Got it. But what about rain? It rained yesterday. Lucas: Der Regen. And to say 'it is raining', you say: Es regnet. Luna: Der Regen, Es regnet. Lucas: Exactly. And if it's cloudy? Die Wolke — that's cloud. And 'it is cloudy' is Es ist bewölkt. Luna: Die Wolke, Es ist bewölkt. That's a lot of new words! Lucas: We'll practice. Let's do a tiny scene. Imagine we're outside. Luna: Okay. I look up and see the sun. I say: Die Sonne! Lucas: And I reply: Ja, es ist sonnig. Now it starts raining. Luna: Oh no! Der Regen! Es regnet! Lucas: Gut! Then a cloud covers the sun. What do you say? Luna: Die Wolke... Es ist bewölkt. Lucas: Sehr gut! You're a natural. Let's repeat the phrases one more time. Luna: Yes, please. Die Sonne, sonnig, Es ist sonnig. Lucas: Der Regen, regnet, Es regnet. Luna: Die Wolke, bewölkt, Es ist bewölkt. Lucas: Now, a little story. In Berlin, the weather changes fast. Let's say: Montag, es ist sonnig. Luna: Montag, es ist sonnig. Lucas: Dienstag, es regnet. Luna: Dienstag, es regnet. Lucas: Mittwoch, es ist bewölkt. Luna: Mittwoch, es ist bewölkt. Lucas: You just used three weather phrases with days of the week. That's real German! Luna: Wow, I did. So if today is sunny, I can say: Heute ist es sonnig. Lucas: Absolutely! Heute ist es sonnig. And if it's raining? Heute regnet es. Luna: Heute regnet es. Lucas: Let's wrap up with a quick review. Die Sonne, meaning? Luna: The sun. Lucas: Der Regen? Luna: The rain. Lucas: Die Wolke?
