- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, now we can talk Husker football. Here's eleven
- 0:02Speaker 1: ten kfab Husker and Cider. Sean Callahan, Good morning.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Sean, Good morning Scott.
- 0:08Speaker 1: All Right, we had part of the lawsuit that Scott
- 0:12Speaker 1: Frost sued the University of Nebraska. Part of it was
- 0:15Speaker 1: dismissed this week, but I'm seeing a future court date
- 0:19Speaker 1: has not been set on the other part. Can you
- 0:22Speaker 1: kind of dissect what's happening here with the ongoing Scott
- 0:26Speaker 1: Frost drama?
- 0:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, if you haven't followed it too closely,
- 0:29Speaker 2: I mean, he was essentially I mean, he's suing the
- 0:34Speaker 2: school for you know, he was taxed income but he
- 0:37Speaker 2: was actually never paid and that's the long and short
- 0:41Speaker 2: of it. So he paid one point something million dollars
- 0:44Speaker 2: in additional taxes for income that he didn't receive. So yeah,
- 0:50Speaker 2: it's just one of those lawyer things and we'll see
- 0:55Speaker 2: where it goes from here. But yeah, it's kind of
- 0:57Speaker 2: one of those things you just want to go away
- 0:58Speaker 2: at this point. Obviously with the Scott Frost there are
- 1:01Speaker 2: now long behind us.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Okay, that's just a weird legal drama on that ongoing
- 1:06Speaker 1: front here.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Uh.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Speaking of legal drama, Uh, some news here on that
- 1:12Speaker 1: running back. You got in some trouble in Florida and
- 1:15Speaker 1: this is as we brought in a back from Penn State.
- 1:19Speaker 1: What's going on with the backfield?
- 1:20Speaker 2: Sean, Yeah, that's really been the biggest July story we've
- 1:24Speaker 2: seen other than Trey Taylor this week being officially bumped
- 1:27Speaker 2: up to a five star by Rivals, and he's the
- 1:30Speaker 2: highest rank recruit Nebraska has had since two thousand and five.
- 1:33Speaker 2: But you know, with Mike Mikai Nelson, you know, he
- 1:37Speaker 2: had the situation in Key West when the players had
- 1:40Speaker 2: a little bit of a break where he was charged
- 1:43Speaker 2: with a felony battery assault and you know, at that point,
- 1:48Speaker 2: you know, the core date was set that the judge
- 1:51Speaker 2: is not now going to file charges, though the victim
- 1:55Speaker 2: does not want to file charges either, so you know,
- 1:59Speaker 2: that court case kind of took a turn. But while
- 2:02Speaker 2: all this has happened, Nebraska was in pursuit of another
- 2:06Speaker 2: running back and Tyke Hayes, former Penn State running back,
- 2:10Speaker 2: has been at Iowa Western for about two months and
- 2:14Speaker 2: he is going to end up at Nebraska now. He
- 2:17Speaker 2: played one year at Penn State this past year where
- 2:20Speaker 2: he was behind Nick Singleton and k Tron Allen to
- 2:24Speaker 2: all American NFL running backs. So he played a little bit,
- 2:27Speaker 2: but by no means had a body at work. But
- 2:29Speaker 2: you know, when you look at you know, Ohio State
- 2:32Speaker 2: offered this guy to high school. He was going to
- 2:34Speaker 2: be the starting running back. Scott Stromeyer, the head coach
- 2:37Speaker 2: of Iowa Western, told this last night. He was by
- 2:40Speaker 2: far the best back they had on the roster and
- 2:42Speaker 2: he was going to have a huge year for them.
- 2:44Speaker 2: So he'll he'll join this Nebraska team with or without
- 2:47Speaker 2: Makay Nelson involve We still don't know where it sits
- 2:51Speaker 2: with him. You know, he's been internally suspended. They did
- 2:54Speaker 2: not announce that, but he's not been working out with
- 2:57Speaker 2: the team. He's been on campus going to classes, but
- 3:00Speaker 2: he's not been involved in organized team activities. So we'll
- 3:03Speaker 2: see kind of where all this goes. Uh, you know,
- 3:06Speaker 2: once once we hear more from Matt Ruhle on the
- 3:09Speaker 2: Nelson situation.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Did the legal drama involving one running back lead to
- 3:14Speaker 1: us saying who else is available? Let's grab this guy
- 3:16Speaker 1: out of Iowa Western Penn State via Iowa Western to
- 3:20Speaker 1: Nebraska or was that completely separate in your estimation.
- 3:24Speaker 2: I think it had everything to do with it. I
- 3:27Speaker 2: mean the phone call to Scott stro Meyer to Iowa
- 3:30Speaker 2: Western happened essentially right at the day or two after
- 3:35Speaker 2: all this went down. And Dave Tollison, who lives in Omaha,
- 3:39Speaker 2: actually is a coach on the staff, and he actually
- 3:41Speaker 2: he coached at Iowa Western with with stro Meyer, so
- 3:45Speaker 2: there's there's a connection there. But then you know, even
- 3:50Speaker 2: Nebraska's running backs coach E. J. Bartel, he worked under
- 3:54Speaker 2: James Franklin at Penn State, so he's got a connection
- 3:58Speaker 2: when James Franklin was involved in recruit this kid. So
- 4:01Speaker 2: there are some connections to Hayes. But I do there's
- 4:06Speaker 2: no question. I mean, the room was already a question
- 4:08Speaker 2: in thin with losing him a Johnson and this, you know,
- 4:13Speaker 2: the situation with Micai and Nelson, who's he's been suspended
- 4:16Speaker 2: last year for a game. You know, there's I think
- 4:19Speaker 2: some red flags, like, you know, we can't really roll
- 4:21Speaker 2: the dice here. We've got to make sure we have
- 4:23Speaker 2: another capable running back. And here we've got a big
- 4:26Speaker 2: ten type of back right in our own backyard. Let's
- 4:29Speaker 2: let's make a move on him.
- 4:30Speaker 1: In thirty seconds or lest Sewan. What got Trey Taylor
- 4:33Speaker 1: bumped up to a five star here in this offseason.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Well, he was MVP of the Elite eleven and went
- 4:38Speaker 2: out to the opening. I mean, these are those are
- 4:40Speaker 2: the two most prestigious events for high school recruits that
- 4:44Speaker 2: you can go to. And I was at the Elite
- 4:45Speaker 2: eleven in California at the end of May, and he
- 4:49Speaker 2: was incredible. Was voted the strongest arm at the camp
- 4:52Speaker 2: by all the coaches and people working in the event.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Just had about as big of a summer as you
- 4:57Speaker 2: could have and went from being forty fiftieth ranked player
- 5:02Speaker 2: in the country now all the way up to number fourteen.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Looking forward to having him in here. Sean Callahan, always
- 5:08Speaker 1: a pleasure having you here. Thank you very much for
- 5:10Speaker 1: the time. Have a great weekend.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Thanks, I appreciate it.
