- 0:43Speaker 1: Welcome to the Philadelphia Sports Table podcast show, the longest
- 0:46Speaker 1: running weekly Philly sports podcast show in the world, over
- 0:49Speaker 1: thirteen years strong. Got a great show coming to you
- 0:52Speaker 1: this week, as we do every single week. Joining us
- 0:55Speaker 1: again this week my co host edgecomb Stan. If you're
- 0:58Speaker 1: watching on YouTube, his name's Eric Leonard. My name is
- 1:01Speaker 1: Jeff Warren. How you doing, Buddy, I'm good man. Hey
- 1:04Speaker 1: guys doing I think everybody should be doing all right
- 1:06Speaker 1: after what we saw this past week in Philly with
- 1:11Speaker 1: the All Star Game, the home run Derby. Holy shit, Eric,
- 1:14Speaker 1: what a time. And to start us off here, we're
- 1:19Speaker 1: gonna be putting up here on the screen our buddy
- 1:21Speaker 1: Len at the Home Run Derby, Len getting on TV
- 1:28Speaker 1: on Netflix with his brothers next to him here.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Yeah, it was very cool and he It was like
- 1:34Speaker 2: a pivotal point too. It was during during Jordan Walker's
- 1:38Speaker 2: like run to Beach Warber, Yeah, which I lost forty
- 1:41Speaker 2: bucks on that bet, but I was that close. But yeah,
- 1:47Speaker 2: I was looking for him all night. I kept kept
- 1:49Speaker 2: thinking like I knew exactly what section he was in.
- 1:51Speaker 2: It was trying to figure out yea I saw him.
- 1:53Speaker 1: I shot us off that video and Michelle and I
- 1:55Speaker 1: were looking at trying to look for him all night.
- 1:57Speaker 1: They just weren't putting the camera on him. And then
- 2:00Speaker 1: right at the end we got the old Hunts stickers there.
- 2:04Speaker 2: And you knew it was him immediately, like just the glasses.
- 2:08Speaker 2: It's just the badiyes, not by the lens stance.
- 2:15Speaker 1: I love it. And his brother is very noticeable too,
- 2:18Speaker 1: right next to him. It's just it was very intense.
- 2:21Speaker 1: It was It was intense moment, Yes, it absolutely was.
- 2:25Speaker 1: So that was it was fun seeing Len on our
- 2:28Speaker 1: screens on Netflix. So but look, dude, the the All
- 2:33Speaker 1: Star Game, the Home run Derby, which we're going to
- 2:35Speaker 1: be getting into, and let me let folks know what
- 2:38Speaker 1: we're going to be diving into. Of course we're going
- 2:39Speaker 1: to be getting to that off the bat, but we're
- 2:41Speaker 1: also going to be getting into what is likely going
- 2:44Speaker 1: to be happening. With regard to the Major League Baseball Draft,
- 2:47Speaker 1: a lot of people don't watch it, but it's consequential
- 2:50Speaker 1: because it inevitably, it inevitably puts baseball in a certain
- 2:56Speaker 1: position with young talent and specific teams for the future,
- 3:00Speaker 1: and how teams are building within their farm system and
- 3:04Speaker 1: Major League Baseball is going to be changing the way
- 3:06Speaker 1: the draft is going to be occurring in the future,
- 3:09Speaker 1: and what's gonna happen with that. So we're gonna dive
- 3:12Speaker 1: into that. I'm gonna get into some Phillies talk quick, quick,
- 3:15Speaker 1: quick recap of the Phillies draft, because we're certainly not
- 3:18Speaker 1: baseball draft experts, but we wanted to get into who
- 3:22Speaker 1: the Phillies a drafted.
- 3:23Speaker 2: You don't want to dig into their seventeenth round pick, No,
- 3:26Speaker 2: I don't. It might be an next door neighbor's kid.
- 3:29Speaker 2: I have no idea.
- 3:30Speaker 1: I know it could be. Yes, I'll say this. I
- 3:34Speaker 1: get Look, I wasn't gonna mention this on the podcast,
- 3:36Speaker 1: but my daughter met a boy on vacation when we
- 3:42Speaker 1: were in Ocean City, Maryland. Right, this kid fifteen years old,
- 3:46Speaker 1: six foot one, so he's an inch taller than me.
- 3:50Speaker 1: He was down in Ocean City, Maryland for a baseball tournament.
- 3:53Speaker 1: And the kid is a phenomenal right handed pitcher, and
- 3:57Speaker 1: I suppose there was He's like, that's a one point
- 4:00Speaker 1: nine to five, sir. He kept serring me, by the way,
- 4:02Speaker 1: and he kept mamming Michelle, which was great. And I'm
- 4:06Speaker 1: not kidding. The kid was like, yeah, I'm a he's
- 4:09Speaker 1: a one point ninety five throw a shutout over here here.
- 4:12Speaker 1: I was like, oh my god, this kid's gonna get
- 4:14Speaker 1: drafted at some point. I'm not kidding him. Like to
- 4:18Speaker 1: my daughter, I'm like, we do we want to keep
- 4:19Speaker 1: in touch with him. Huh, the kid's gonna get drafted.
- 4:24Speaker 1: I just know he is. And I'm gonna be able
- 4:26Speaker 1: to say I know that kid is he Is he
- 4:30Speaker 1: from your area or is he nice from it? He's
- 4:33Speaker 1: from like southern He's like from the southern Ish Virginia area.
- 4:36Speaker 1: So yeah, disappointed. What a nice kid too. He really was.
- 4:41Speaker 1: He was a real nice kid. But uh, anyway, we're
- 4:44Speaker 1: all gonna maybe gets drafted by the Phillies because we're
- 4:46Speaker 1: also going to talk about this Phillies team what we
- 4:49Speaker 1: want need to see from them during the second half
- 4:51Speaker 1: of the season. They're gonna get into some Sixers talk
- 4:54Speaker 1: because apparently Joelle embiid Tyres Maxi, Jalen Brown, we're trying
- 4:58Speaker 1: to get Lebron James to Philadelphia. It's been reported what
- 5:01Speaker 1: we're throwing down on the table this week. A lot
- 5:04Speaker 1: of Eagles talk. Training camp is right around the corner.
- 5:07Speaker 1: What's in store for this Eagles team this upcoming season.
- 5:10Speaker 1: So that's what we're gonna be getting into with our
- 5:11Speaker 1: good friend Lou Debiassi from the Lockdown Eagles podcast. He's
- 5:14Speaker 1: going to be jumping on with us in a bit. So, Eric,
- 5:17Speaker 1: we talked about Len being at the game, but we also,
- 5:21Speaker 1: I know you wanted to mention that July fifteenth when
- 5:25Speaker 1: we're recording this.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Yeah, this is this is long considered the worst day
- 5:32Speaker 2: in US sports, Yes, of the year. It's like it's
- 5:35Speaker 2: kind of renowned for that. Like not a single baseball game,
- 5:38Speaker 2: it's the day after the All Star Game. There's no
- 5:41Speaker 2: there's no NFL camp yet. It's summer league basketball. But
- 5:45Speaker 2: that's you know, that's summer league. You have to be
- 5:47Speaker 2: a real NBA dork to be into that, which I
- 5:49Speaker 2: am and you've been watching. Yeah, hockey's dead in the water.
- 5:53Speaker 2: It is the worst day in sports. But we're here
- 5:55Speaker 2: for you.
- 5:56Speaker 1: People, Yes we are. We're here for you as we
- 5:59Speaker 1: always are. And look, the Philadelphia Phillies organization. Major League
- 6:04Speaker 1: Baseball put on an amazing show in Philadelphia this week,
- 6:08Speaker 1: not only with the All Star Game but the home
- 6:11Speaker 1: run Derby. So let's get into this home the new
- 6:14Speaker 1: home run Derby. I guess you would say these new rules,
- 6:17Speaker 1: my gosh, fantastic. Look if you have I haven't been
- 6:21Speaker 1: watching the home run Derby for the past ten years.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Take you through some stuff the past decade. Basically, a
- 6:29Speaker 1: system that was put into place where you'd have quote outs.
- 6:32Speaker 1: These players would have outs, and then they would also
- 6:36Speaker 1: have different time they'd be on a clock in different
- 6:40Speaker 1: timing aspects of the home run Derby, thirty seconds of
- 6:43Speaker 1: bonus time if you hit two homers more than four
- 6:47Speaker 1: hundred and forty feet so and because of this, players
- 6:51Speaker 1: were just gassed by the final round and the broadcast
- 6:56Speaker 1: would just it was just they couldn't keep up with
- 6:58Speaker 1: the home runs, just frequently having to track fly balls
- 7:03Speaker 1: midway through the air on consecutive homers. It was sloppy.
- 7:08Speaker 1: So basically what they did is they went to this
- 7:13Speaker 1: new format. Each player got twenty swings in the first round,
- 7:16Speaker 1: no matter how many of them were homers, and fifteen
- 7:19Speaker 1: in the subsequent rounds. Every swing mattered, especially at the end,
- 7:22Speaker 1: where players could keep homering as long as they didn't
- 7:25Speaker 1: make an out on their final swing. This new home
- 7:28Speaker 1: run Derby, I thought was fantastic. It was great, not
- 7:33Speaker 1: just from a timing perspective, but from I thought, an
- 7:36Speaker 1: intensity perspective, and we were actually able to see Kyle Schwarber,
- 7:41Speaker 1: you know, Philly's own against Jordan Walker, who ended up winning,
- 7:45Speaker 1: and it was an intense sports moment and that's what
- 7:48Speaker 1: we want to see in sports. This home run derby
- 7:50Speaker 1: did it for me. Man, Yeah, you're right. It wasn't
- 7:53Speaker 1: just fun. It was also competitive.
- 7:55Speaker 2: Like, yes, I think Schwarber and Junior Camonaro is that
- 7:59Speaker 2: how you say his name?
- 8:00Speaker 1: Yeah, Jordan Walker.
- 8:02Speaker 2: The four guys left in the semifinals like they kind.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Of looked tired afterwards.
- 8:07Speaker 2: They did, like it was a lot of pressure, and
- 8:09Speaker 2: I think, like I'm just gonna say it, the Philly
- 8:12Speaker 2: crowd brought it to that thing. They booed the shit
- 8:17Speaker 2: out of all the non Phillies. It was fantastic.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Yes, And by the way, people online who don't get
- 8:22Speaker 1: it and don't understand Philly, I mean, it's actually hilarious
- 8:27Speaker 1: to actually read that stuff. Boy man, Really Philly really
- 8:30Speaker 1: stinks when you're booing to players like shut up, would
- 8:34Speaker 1: you understand the city and the culture?
- 8:37Speaker 2: Come on, I think for the most part, people did.
- 8:39Speaker 2: I mean, did you see Ben Rice's interview after afterwards?
- 8:42Speaker 2: He was like, He's like, they don't boot nobody's so yeah,
- 8:45Speaker 2: kind of happy, like it was the perfect The rules
- 8:50Speaker 2: are great, The new rules are fantastic. I did see
- 8:52Speaker 2: some people complain about that, but I'm like, it was
- 8:55Speaker 2: it was kind of boring. Before this, I thought I
- 8:59Speaker 2: thought Netflix did a good job. I thought, uh, the
- 9:03Speaker 2: pre game or the announcement part where they had the
- 9:06Speaker 2: guys from the new show Hawk the Hawk or something, Yeah,
- 9:09Speaker 2: it was horrible. I just that show's gonna suck. Will
- 9:13Speaker 2: Ferrell can be funny, but the other two dorks. I mean,
- 9:17Speaker 2: I love Luke Wilson some of his movies, but like
- 9:19Speaker 2: he was not funny. They should just wipe that out
- 9:22Speaker 2: extra don't don't do that again. They have to promote something,
- 9:25Speaker 2: you know what I mean. It's Netflix. I had to
- 9:27Speaker 2: promote something. It's like, we have we have that many
- 9:29Speaker 2: people who are going to be watching. We got to
- 9:31Speaker 2: promo something.
- 9:32Speaker 1: I get it.
- 9:33Speaker 2: But Will Ferrell's doing every podcast under the sun right now.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Isn't that enough? Not our But but the the whole
- 9:42Speaker 1: thing was fantastic.
- 9:43Speaker 2: And we talked about this before the show, and I'll
- 9:46Speaker 2: bring it up now, MLB, you can't keep having Barry
- 9:51Speaker 2: Bonds an a ride on your broadcasts, giving actually really
- 9:57Speaker 2: good insight to these to these events, giving.
- 10:00Speaker 1: A great baseball analysis. Yeah, Barry Bond.
- 10:03Speaker 2: Barry Bonds was explaining Jordan Walker's swing, and he did
- 10:07Speaker 2: it in such a way where I was like, oh
- 10:08Speaker 2: my god, he's right.
- 10:09Speaker 1: But this kid's swing is.
- 10:10Speaker 2: Not like the the post mid twenty tens where every
- 10:14Speaker 2: every kid now is like cock back, like Bryce Harper
- 10:17Speaker 2: in like a spring, you know, and the hands are
- 10:20Speaker 2: cock like like a corkscrew kind of thing. He just
- 10:23Speaker 2: has a nice, big, smooth swing, one that he's not
- 10:26Speaker 2: going to get hurt on probably throughout his career. And
- 10:29Speaker 2: Barry Bonds was explaining how his hands are coming there,
- 10:31Speaker 2: and I was just like, wow, this this guy. He
- 10:33Speaker 2: knows baseball obviously, but you can't keep blackballing these people
- 10:38Speaker 2: and then have them on all of your broadcasts. It's
- 10:40Speaker 2: absurd at this point. But I thought it was fantastic.
- 10:43Speaker 2: I thought the actual game the intro was great. Having
- 10:46Speaker 2: the kids ride the bikes onto the field like like
- 10:49Speaker 2: the sandlot was amazing. Having having every player sign the
- 10:53Speaker 2: declaration or having the starter sign it.
- 10:55Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, what a great idea. And then having having
- 11:00Speaker 1: the red carpet.
- 11:02Speaker 2: In the city before the game where all the families
- 11:05Speaker 2: came out and just and again the Philly crowd would
- 11:09Speaker 2: just came through again and may gave HIMLB just like
- 11:14Speaker 2: on a platter, gave him a great product for the
- 11:17Speaker 2: last two days and gave MLB like like a shining
- 11:20Speaker 2: star the last two days, even though we're.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Going to get in some stuff where they probably should
- 11:25Speaker 1: get dinged here. Yeah they had. MLB had had two
- 11:28Speaker 1: good days here. They absolutely did. And look, you know
- 11:32Speaker 1: it bothers me when we look at a certain team
- 11:37Speaker 1: in sports and it's the Seattle Seahawks and they have
- 11:39Speaker 1: what's known as the twelfth Man, they don't deserve it.
- 11:43Speaker 1: Philly does. We should be like the twelfth Man, not
- 11:46Speaker 1: just in football, but with every single sport. We should.
- 11:50Speaker 1: Philly should really be known as the fans are that
- 11:53Speaker 1: extra quote player or players on the field, or the
- 11:57Speaker 1: alice of the court or whatever. I mean. It is
- 11:59Speaker 1: just such a special city and you see what a
- 12:00Speaker 1: large market like Philly is able to do. And with
- 12:03Speaker 1: the fan base here in the city, the passion what
- 12:07Speaker 1: the fans can do to enhance an event like this.
- 12:12Speaker 1: It's just it. You don't see it hardly anywhere else
- 12:15Speaker 1: in the United States. You really don't.
- 12:17Speaker 2: No, and I don't want to see it. I don't
- 12:19Speaker 2: want to see an All Star Game in Tampa, I
- 12:21Speaker 2: don't want to see one in Arizona, Miami, Miami. I
- 12:24Speaker 2: don't want to see one wherever the hell the A's
- 12:26Speaker 2: play now, Sacramento or some shit like. Just put it
- 12:31Speaker 2: in like four or five fan frenzied locations. Yeah, and
- 12:36Speaker 2: just leave it at that at this point, because the
- 12:38Speaker 2: Philadelphia gets this once every twenty years or something. Yeah,
- 12:42Speaker 2: I know the last time was ninety six. Yeah that
- 12:44Speaker 2: they I hope they recognize, Like, Okay, that worked, but
- 12:49Speaker 2: we have to be fair to all the other teams.
- 12:50Speaker 1: But no, you don't. You don't have to write right,
- 12:53Speaker 1: Just put it where. Put it where the fans give
- 12:55Speaker 1: a shit. Yep, absolutely, absolutely all right. We'd love to
- 12:59Speaker 1: know what you thought of the home run derby. Really,
- 13:01Speaker 1: let us know, leave us a comment. We'd love to
- 13:04Speaker 1: hear from you. Shoot us off an email as well.
- 13:06Speaker 1: Philadelphia Sports Table at gmail dot com. And moving along
- 13:10Speaker 1: with some Major League Baseball changes. Just talked about home
- 13:13Speaker 1: run Derby, But the question is did we see the
- 13:16Speaker 1: last Major League Baseball draft of its kind this past week? Now? Look,
- 13:20Speaker 1: I'm not one that sits around and watches the Major
- 13:23Speaker 1: League Baseball Draft. I'm not. I've never been that way.
- 13:27Speaker 1: But we've understood over all these years how important this
- 13:30Speaker 1: draft is to the development of players, to the development
- 13:33Speaker 1: of teams, and what it means to the league overall.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Where are we going with this here on the show?
- 13:40Speaker 1: The fact of the matter is, if Commissioner Rob Manfred
- 13:44Speaker 1: gets his way the MLB draft and what it has been,
- 13:49Speaker 1: it's going to be the last of its draft type
- 13:52Speaker 1: before some new rules begin to change. So some background here.
- 13:57Speaker 1: I may be going on for a little bit, but
- 13:58Speaker 1: I want to give some context here. Major League Baseball,
- 14:01Speaker 1: in its players union, they continue to swap proposals ahead
- 14:04Speaker 1: of a near certain lockout this winter. The early proposals
- 14:09Speaker 1: that have been dished around here largely performative and may
- 14:13Speaker 1: not resemble the actual collective bargaining agreement that they inevitably
- 14:17Speaker 1: reach whenever that is. But one of the league's proposals
- 14:21Speaker 1: is just a stark departure from history that it is
- 14:25Speaker 1: going to end up in some way, shape or form
- 14:27Speaker 1: changing the game. And that is the way that the
- 14:30Speaker 1: teams acquire amateur talent versus the draft. So there's going
- 14:34Speaker 1: to be three changes that the league wants. They want
- 14:37Speaker 1: to institute an international draft. They want to shorten the
- 14:41Speaker 1: domestic draft from twenty rounds to twelve and institute hard
- 14:46Speaker 1: bonus slots in both this and the international draft. And
- 14:50Speaker 1: then three close the draft to high school prospects, would
- 14:54Speaker 1: require entrance into the draft be two years out from
- 14:57Speaker 1: graduation of college and twenty years old by September in
- 15:02Speaker 1: their draft year. This is going to change the game. Okay,
- 15:07Speaker 1: this is going to change the game. The draft, as
- 15:10Speaker 1: we know, used to be forty to fifty rounds. It
- 15:13Speaker 1: was pretty ridiculous, but the league in the Union agreed
- 15:16Speaker 1: to cut it to twenty back in twenty twenty one,
- 15:19Speaker 1: so much smaller influx of players made it easier for
- 15:22Speaker 1: the league to cut affiliations with about forty minor league franchises.
- 15:26Speaker 1: That saved money, saved a lot of headaches right before
- 15:30Speaker 1: the minor leaguers ended up unionizing. So what they're doing
- 15:34Speaker 1: here is going to absolutely affect the game of baseball.
- 15:38Speaker 1: It's going to affect the talent. It's going to affect
- 15:41Speaker 1: so much of what the game of baseball is going
- 15:43Speaker 1: to become in the future. And look, maybe maybe folks
- 15:49Speaker 1: don't really care about millionaire ball players losing contract leverage,
- 15:53Speaker 1: but that's probably what's going to inevitably happen with this
- 15:56Speaker 1: new MLB draft. And I don't know, let's get into
- 16:01Speaker 1: it here, Eric, because again, like I said, this is
- 16:03Speaker 1: going to absolutely change the game of baseball in terms
- 16:07Speaker 1: of the talent, talent acquisition, when players begin developing, how
- 16:13Speaker 1: they're even developing through the minor league system, injuries, I
- 16:16Speaker 1: think we're going to end up seeing more and more
- 16:18Speaker 1: of Probably a lot of this I think has to
- 16:21Speaker 1: do with the NIL, even though you know, when you
- 16:24Speaker 1: read ESPN's piece on this, Jeff Pissan put up a
- 16:27Speaker 1: very detailed piece about this. I mean he even said
- 16:31Speaker 1: in terms of the NIL that might not be the
- 16:34Speaker 1: main reason why, but it's certainly a big part of why.
- 16:37Speaker 1: You see what has happened with college football players and
- 16:40Speaker 1: the use of the NIL, maybe Major League Baseball is
- 16:43Speaker 1: seeing that as a way to alter and change how
- 16:48Speaker 1: they're going about drafting talent. So I don't know, what
- 16:51Speaker 1: are your thoughts here we may in terms of what
- 16:53Speaker 1: we may see in the future with regard to the
- 16:55Speaker 1: MLB Draft and how it affects talent.
- 16:59Speaker 2: Well as far as the international draft goes, it's I
- 17:03Speaker 2: kind of I kind of agree with that aspect of
- 17:05Speaker 2: it because I've seen way too many Major League teams
- 17:09Speaker 2: sign like fourteen year old kids from Venezuela. Yeah, which
- 17:12Speaker 2: is kind of insane like that. I've always thought that
- 17:15Speaker 2: role was kind of weird. I have no issues with
- 17:18Speaker 2: them kind of changing up the international draft that way,
- 17:20Speaker 2: although those kids probably could use that money for their
- 17:23Speaker 2: families and I the crazy thing is like putting age
- 17:29Speaker 2: restrictions on this stuff always causes issues. Like look at
- 17:31Speaker 2: look at the NBA. They kids were getting drafted. Kids
- 17:34Speaker 2: were getting drafted at of high school and they made
- 17:36Speaker 2: this role where they made this absurd role honestly because
- 17:40Speaker 2: of the outcome is that you know, you have to
- 17:42Speaker 2: go to college for one year then we can draft you.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Yeah, but that but that one year is a joke.
- 17:46Speaker 1: What is time exactly?
- 17:48Speaker 2: Like Zion Williamson probably went to four classes at Duke
- 17:51Speaker 2: and then they got drafted. Like it's just and that's
- 17:53Speaker 2: kind of that's kind of the entire first round now
- 17:56Speaker 2: of the NBA draft. Now Major League Baseball was kind
- 18:00Speaker 2: of going even further with this.
- 18:01Speaker 1: I I I.
- 18:04Speaker 2: To me, this all reeks of some kind of revenue
- 18:07Speaker 2: issue and in bargaining bargaining chips for the MLB because
- 18:12Speaker 2: of the you know, the new contract coming up with
- 18:14Speaker 2: the with the Players Association. I'm it almost feels like
- 18:19Speaker 2: they're trying to build up I don't even necessarily trying
- 18:21Speaker 2: to build up college baseball, whereas I think they're trying to.
- 18:26Speaker 2: I think they're trying to get those players not through
- 18:29Speaker 2: their own system, but through college for two years so
- 18:31Speaker 2: they can build their own build up, kind of build
- 18:32Speaker 2: up their own brand through NIL money and sponsorships and stuff.
- 18:37Speaker 2: And then once they get drafted, they're going to be
- 18:39Speaker 2: kind of kind of bringing in known quantities already, right,
- 18:44Speaker 2: like as opposed to a sixteen year old kid who
- 18:47Speaker 2: finally sees the field four years later and only like heart,
- 18:50Speaker 2: you know, hard knows baseball fans know who they are.
- 18:53Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I think their dream.
- 18:54Speaker 2: Ultimately is to like bring up like the next Bryce
- 18:57Speaker 2: Harper that we've already been watching in the world, the
- 19:00Speaker 2: college world. Series of the past two years, and we
- 19:04Speaker 2: can go like, hey, this kid won two straight college
- 19:06Speaker 2: World Series, He's already worth three million dollars, already sponsorship
- 19:10Speaker 2: by Nike, and we're bringing him right into the major
- 19:12Speaker 2: League ball club.
- 19:15Speaker 1: It.
- 19:16Speaker 2: I think it's really unfair to the really good seventeen
- 19:20Speaker 2: eighteen year olds that could just come right into the league.
- 19:23Speaker 1: Connor Griffin right now, Kevin McGonagall.
- 19:25Speaker 2: Cole Emerson is mentioned in this article like bright, I
- 19:29Speaker 2: keep bringing up price Harper, but he was like one
- 19:32Speaker 2: of the most electric like fifteen year olds. He was
- 19:35Speaker 2: on the cover of Sports Illustrated, and for him for
- 19:40Speaker 2: us to have to wait two years at LSU or
- 19:43Speaker 2: whatever wherever he goes to see him in the major
- 19:46Speaker 2: leagues is just stupid. You're actually hurting your brand keeping
- 19:51Speaker 2: those kids down in college.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Right, you're go ahead. I was going to say, I
- 19:58Speaker 1: think what made League Baseball's idea is here from a
- 20:02Speaker 1: scouting and developmental perspective, it's probably going to save scouting
- 20:06Speaker 1: and development costs. You know, it's much easier to cover
- 20:09Speaker 1: a few hundred Division one Baseball schools than thousands of
- 20:13Speaker 1: high schools. You know, And again, I'll those your jobs yeah, exactly,
- 20:17Speaker 1: the scouts exactly. It's like moneyball, and he wipes out
- 20:21Speaker 1: all the old guys right right, and that as a result,
- 20:23Speaker 1: like it would this is also going to prevent players
- 20:26Speaker 1: like Bryce Harper and and and Connor Griffin from just
- 20:30Speaker 1: skyrocketing through the miners and playing in the majors at
- 20:33Speaker 1: the age of nineteen. You know. That's but I'm not
- 20:38Speaker 1: saying I like this at all. I don't know.
- 20:41Speaker 2: And it for anyone thinking it's going to build up
- 20:44Speaker 2: college baseball, it's not going to. You'll have a better
- 20:48Speaker 2: product on the field. But like I'm a pretty big
- 20:51Speaker 2: baseball fan. I watched the College World Series and that's it.
- 20:54Speaker 2: I don't watch college baseball for the most part during
- 20:56Speaker 2: the year, don't really care, to be honest with you. Yeah,
- 20:59Speaker 2: I follow prospects, and where are the prospects right now?
- 21:02Speaker 2: They're in Single A and Double A. I don't in
- 21:04Speaker 2: the golf leagues or whatever.
- 21:05Speaker 1: Like I don't.
- 21:07Speaker 2: It's not going to make me watch more college baseball.
- 21:09Speaker 2: I'll just be more aware of some players, probably because
- 21:11Speaker 2: it's going to be on its Single A baseball is
- 21:13Speaker 2: not on TV, but college baseball is. But I think
- 21:19Speaker 2: one thing the Players Association has to push back on
- 21:21Speaker 2: big time if this is the route they're going and
- 21:24Speaker 2: they're setting hard caps like the NFL did in the draft,
- 21:27Speaker 2: and and so did the NBA. I understand the hard
- 21:30Speaker 2: capping for slotting.
- 21:32Speaker 1: That makes sense. Most leagues do it. Now.
- 21:36Speaker 2: If I was a major league team, I'd be pissed
- 21:38Speaker 2: because I do like to like move my money around.
- 21:40Speaker 2: Like Kevin McGonagall, they were able to push him more money,
- 21:43Speaker 2: and it's that makes sense, But it's just that's just
- 21:46Speaker 2: kind of what all sports are doing. They have to
- 21:49Speaker 2: renegotiate the arbitration rules if they're going to go this
- 21:53Speaker 2: route with the draft, right, because if you can only draft,
- 21:57Speaker 2: if you can only draft twenty two year olds, if
- 22:00Speaker 2: they had go through two years of college, it'd be
- 22:01Speaker 2: twenty twenty one years old by the time they get
- 22:04Speaker 2: up to the majors. This is this is already adding
- 22:06Speaker 2: two years to their career, right right.
- 22:09Speaker 1: And I know they're good. I know they're like, well
- 22:11Speaker 1: they'll make nil money. Well what if they don't? You
- 22:13Speaker 1: don't know that, right? That's true? That is it? That
- 22:17Speaker 1: is a that is like a what's it like? That's
- 22:21Speaker 1: like a fantasy.
- 22:22Speaker 2: I don't even know how NL works, right, I understand
- 22:26Speaker 2: like Caleb Williams being like ten million dollars in college.
- 22:28Speaker 1: Yeah, and that was the first time.
- 22:29Speaker 2: I'm like, well, that doesn't seem right, right, right, Whereas
- 22:34Speaker 2: if you draft the kid when he's eighteen year out
- 22:35Speaker 2: of high school, you can give him a million bucks
- 22:38Speaker 2: and he's comfortable and he can just get the best,
- 22:42Speaker 2: the best baseball training in the world at the league level.
- 22:46Speaker 2: I don't think he's going to get that in college.
- 22:48Speaker 2: And now you're pushing off the ability for him to
- 22:51Speaker 2: make money. Maybe not your your top ten picks, but
- 22:55Speaker 2: like you're like your next ten picks, You're you're you're
- 22:58Speaker 2: kind of hurting them financially. And then also you're adding
- 23:01Speaker 2: they're only going to make the major leagues at like
- 23:03Speaker 2: say twenty three to twenty four years old, and if
- 23:05Speaker 2: they keep the same arbitration rules, like they're going to
- 23:07Speaker 2: have them under control until like thirty years old.
- 23:09Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah, probably these aren't facts. I'm just kind
- 23:13Speaker 1: of throwing on them.
- 23:13Speaker 2: But like that two year thing added with the current
- 23:16Speaker 2: arbitration rules sounds like a disaster for the players, and
- 23:20Speaker 2: I really hope they push back when they finally go
- 23:22Speaker 2: to the table. I'm sure they'll fold because they always do.
- 23:25Speaker 1: Yeah, they do.
- 23:28Speaker 2: Everyone out there, go out and watch. Cody Bellinger was
- 23:30Speaker 2: interviewed during All Star weekend and he was asked about
- 23:33Speaker 2: the new new contract coming up in Major League Baseball
- 23:36Speaker 2: Player Association and he was just like, the owners are billionaires.
- 23:39Speaker 2: They're going to do what the hell they want. Yeah,
- 23:41Speaker 2: like they have all the money, yes, And I was like, finally,
- 23:44Speaker 2: some's he has years in the league, so he probably
- 23:46Speaker 2: feels like he can just talk openly.
- 23:48Speaker 1: Yeah, But like he.
- 23:49Speaker 2: Really was, like, they are the scumbags with the money.
- 23:53Speaker 2: What are we going to do? Like that's kind of how.
- 23:55Speaker 1: He I was like, right on socialist, yes, but I.
- 24:03Speaker 2: Think that aspect of it, they really have to figure
- 24:05Speaker 2: out some kind of compromise because that's gonna put such
- 24:08Speaker 2: a free agency is going to be a disaster.
- 24:11Speaker 1: It's gonna mess free agency up. Like I said, it's
- 24:13Speaker 1: just going to change the game. It's going to change
- 24:15Speaker 1: the game of baseball.
- 24:16Speaker 2: And look, and so there's a lot of assumptions based
- 24:18Speaker 2: on college baseball baseball, which is like an unknown it
- 24:22Speaker 2: really is. I know, I know it's big in this country,
- 24:24Speaker 2: but it's not that big. It's nowhere near college football
- 24:28Speaker 2: and basketball. It just sounds like a bad idea and
- 24:31Speaker 2: it's going to go against the player's best interest.
- 24:33Speaker 1: Absolutely, leave us a comment below. If you're watching on YouTube,
- 24:36Speaker 1: what do you think about this new Major League Baseball
- 24:39Speaker 1: proposal to change the draft. We'd love to hear from you.
- 24:43Speaker 1: And with that being said, we're going to take a
- 24:45Speaker 1: break and when we get back some Phillies talk, Sixers talk,
- 24:48Speaker 1: Eagles talk. Stick with us. We'll be right back. All right,
- 24:53Speaker 1: we are back, and now we got to get into
- 24:55Speaker 1: some Phillies talk. Quick recap of the Phillies draft. It's
- 25:01Speaker 1: gonna be a real quick I think. Dear God. Look
- 25:06Speaker 1: they with they didn't have a first round pick, so
- 25:09Speaker 1: they were picking round two, pick number sixty four, outfielder
- 25:13Speaker 1: Cayden Boggin Pole I believe is his name. He's got
- 25:17Speaker 1: a guy look reading up on him. He's got some
- 25:19Speaker 1: raw power from Missouri State. He actually broke former Phillies
- 25:23Speaker 1: legend Ryan Howard's home run record of twenty back in
- 25:27Speaker 1: twenty twenty four. He's got he's got incredible size at
- 25:32Speaker 1: the plate. He's just as big as Ryan Howard. Yeah, yeah, massive,
- 25:35Speaker 1: six foot six, two hundred and forty five pounds, but
- 25:39Speaker 1: needs to work on his consistency at the plate. From
- 25:41Speaker 1: everything that I have read, Round three pick number one
- 25:45Speaker 1: hundred and the Phillies they were going. They were going
- 25:49Speaker 1: big time at the top of the well, I say,
- 25:51Speaker 1: at the top of the draft. Round three, round four
- 25:53Speaker 1: they were picking up pictures, especially right handed pitchers. Ruger
- 25:58Speaker 1: Rioas I think, I don't even know if I'm saying
- 26:01Speaker 1: that right Texha. Yeah, he's from Texas, right handed, right
- 26:08Speaker 1: handed pitcher, relies on a fastball that can touch about
- 26:11Speaker 1: ninety eight miles per hour. Older player at the age
- 26:14Speaker 1: of twenty three. And then in the fourth round pick
- 26:17Speaker 1: one eight, the Phillies took another righty in Devon Shearon.
- 26:20Speaker 1: He can actually hit about one hundred miles per hour.
- 26:23Speaker 1: He's from LSU. He lacks a lot of control though.
- 26:27Speaker 1: Round four again picked one thirty five, just a few
- 26:31Speaker 1: after the Devon Shearon pick Jackson Hunt Jackson Jackson Jelkin. Third,
- 26:38Speaker 1: he's he's a right hander as well from Kentucky. Six
- 26:44Speaker 1: foot seven guy six foot seven, dances around ninety eight
- 26:48Speaker 1: miles per hour. Apparently he dropped in the draft. Due
- 26:52Speaker 1: to character concerns. I don't know what that is, but
- 26:57Speaker 1: my god, I know only six to seven. These bullying
- 27:00Speaker 1: people around character turns at age like eighteen? Scary? Yeah,
- 27:06Speaker 1: is it gonna get better? Look, teenagers can be jerks sometimes.
- 27:10Speaker 2: Okay, Yeah, Bubby, you didn't mention the round round eleven
- 27:14Speaker 2: pick pick three thirty nine of the draft.
- 27:17Speaker 1: Oh I must have missed it. Yeah, Drew Titsworth.
- 27:20Speaker 3: Oh that's.
- 27:23Speaker 1: Yes. Come on, God, I hope he gets to the majors. Please,
- 27:28Speaker 1: I'm getting his jersey, Drew Tittsworth. Yes, how can I
- 27:34Speaker 1: forget him? Look, we're almost fifty folks. Yeah, exactly, Jesus,
- 27:41Speaker 1: I don't even know where to go with this bit
- 27:43Speaker 1: here at this point.
- 27:45Speaker 2: Well, did you talk about the their first pick, Tyler Spangler?
- 27:50Speaker 3: Oh?
- 27:50Speaker 1: I didn't talk about the Tyler Spangler. Yes, I went
- 27:53Speaker 1: right into round two. You know you were riding around,
- 27:56Speaker 1: You were right in round three?
- 27:57Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 27:58Speaker 1: Yeah, they're actually first pick with Tyler Spangler thirty sixth
- 28:01Speaker 1: overall pick. That's right. Yeah, and probably got really good value,
- 28:05Speaker 1: which you know you and I love good value in
- 28:08Speaker 1: good When we walked when we watched the draft together, folks,
- 28:11Speaker 1: we always say good value after every pick. That's great value,
- 28:15Speaker 1: folks for hours, because that's what all the idiots on
- 28:17Speaker 1: TV say.
- 28:18Speaker 2: Yes, but they did appear to get some good value
- 28:20Speaker 2: here because he was going to be a top ten
- 28:22Speaker 2: twelve pick in this draft if he hadn't missed his
- 28:26Speaker 2: entire senior year with a bad back.
- 28:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 28:29Speaker 2: Does it make me nervous that they drafted an athletic
- 28:32Speaker 2: shortstop with a bad back because we already have one, right, Yes, but.
- 28:39Speaker 1: Values value.
- 28:40Speaker 2: The second round was a great spot for him, and
- 28:43Speaker 2: he looked really healthy at his tryout at whatever the
- 28:48Speaker 2: tryout is for the draft. I watched a couple of
- 28:52Speaker 2: YouTube videos. I really I like his swing. It's again,
- 28:55Speaker 2: it's not like Jordan Walker. It's it's not your typical swing.
- 28:59Speaker 2: It's not he doesn't He only takes like a little
- 29:02Speaker 2: dippy step back with his right foot. He's left handed
- 29:04Speaker 2: and he throws right. But yeah, he only takes like
- 29:07Speaker 2: a little tippy toe step with his front foot and
- 29:09Speaker 2: then then barrels into the ball. He doesn't take that
- 29:12Speaker 2: huge drop, but it's a really smooth swing.
- 29:16Speaker 1: He's six', three he's really.
- 29:17Speaker 2: Athletic Major League baseball needs to chill. Out with the,
- 29:22Speaker 2: comparisons by.
- 29:23Speaker 1: The, way they really do the NBA's maybe he's pretty
- 29:26Speaker 1: good at, This like i've i've i've never seen them
- 29:28Speaker 1: like a guy get drafted and Like Michael, jordan like,
- 29:32Speaker 1: no let's take it down a, notch like Maybe durant
- 29:35Speaker 1: that kind of, thing, Right but BUT I i SAW
- 29:37Speaker 1: i saw comparisons to Cal Ripken. Jr for this, Guy like,
- 29:42Speaker 1: stop let's come, on, man NOW i Saw Corey. Seeger
- 29:48Speaker 1: that makes more. Sense Cal Rippan.
- 29:49Speaker 2: Jr all Time hall Of, famer he was at The
- 29:52Speaker 2: All Star game if he saw, Him, yeah he looks.
- 29:54Speaker 1: Great but, uh, like let's let's chill, out, Folks like it's,
- 29:59Speaker 1: SERIOUSLY i love it all, Right let's move on to
- 30:03Speaker 1: some more like Actual phillies. Talk not necessarily the draft,
- 30:07Speaker 1: here but what do we expect to see from The
- 30:10Speaker 1: phillies and what do we want to see from them
- 30:11Speaker 1: during the second half of the. SEASON i think at
- 30:14Speaker 1: this point in the, Season eric the bullpen is pretty.
- 30:17Speaker 1: Disappointing we thought they were going to be such a
- 30:19Speaker 1: strength coming into this, season and at first they were
- 30:22Speaker 1: the beginning of the. Season now things are just a.
- 30:24Speaker 1: Mess Jose alvarado is a. Mess, Thankfully doron is just
- 30:29Speaker 1: that solid closer that you, want but really the bullpen
- 30:32Speaker 1: has just been a mess and we just need to
- 30:35Speaker 1: see more. Consistency of course There i'm, look there are
- 30:40Speaker 1: people who are saying heading into The All star, break
- 30:42Speaker 1: The phillies were kind of getting. Lucky they were putting
- 30:47Speaker 1: themselves in positions and simply by the luck of the
- 30:49Speaker 1: draw coming out on, top mainly because Of doran and
- 30:52Speaker 1: him being able to make the saves that he's been
- 30:54Speaker 1: able to make so. FAR i just think consistency from
- 30:59Speaker 1: the bullpen and being able TO i keep going back to,
- 31:03Speaker 1: it But i'm. Serious being able to play small ball
- 31:05Speaker 1: every now and, AGAIN i think can do this team.
- 31:09Speaker 1: WELL a team that is consistently just on the lookout
- 31:12Speaker 1: for home runs all the, time playing some small ball
- 31:16Speaker 1: is not a bad way during the second half of
- 31:18Speaker 1: the season to play. Baseball it's not because you just
- 31:21Speaker 1: want to get runners on base and get the get
- 31:25Speaker 1: those runners in scoring. Position and, yes they do have
- 31:27Speaker 1: trouble and they do have issues with ri, sps but
- 31:31Speaker 1: IT'S i think playing small ball is part of what's
- 31:35Speaker 1: going to need to happen for this team during the
- 31:37Speaker 1: second half of the season if they're going to be
- 31:38Speaker 1: successful and really start or maybe trying to Overtake atlanta.
- 31:42Speaker 1: Too SO i don't know what are your thoughts here
- 31:44Speaker 1: on what we need to see from.
- 31:45Speaker 2: Them that's not going to. Happen it's not not with this, team.
- 31:50Speaker 2: MAN i know we've seen it the past couple of.
- 31:52Speaker 2: Years they get to the playoffs and they did the
- 31:55Speaker 2: well run the home run well runs dry and they
- 31:59Speaker 2: falter that this team just doesn't play small ball and
- 32:03Speaker 2: they have some components they could do it this, year
- 32:05Speaker 2: like they Have Justin Crawford stott could do, it like
- 32:09Speaker 2: they do have some players that could do it as
- 32:11Speaker 2: opposed to where they just had mashers Like cassianos was
- 32:15Speaker 2: not a small ball.
- 32:16Speaker 1: Guy Justin crawford is.
- 32:18Speaker 2: Right, yeah and he's he's been rock solid and he's
- 32:22Speaker 2: been actually heating up going into the second. Half So
- 32:24Speaker 2: i'm really looking forward to watching. Him the bullpens a.
- 32:28Speaker 2: DISASTER i, MEAN I i almost Think duran should Have
- 32:32Speaker 2: dern should have handed in His All star acceptance and been,
- 32:35Speaker 2: LIKE i CAN'T i can't represent this. Ship but he's
- 32:39Speaker 2: been he's been. Dynamite, yeah they're they're gonna they're gonna
- 32:43Speaker 2: have to find a fifth starter at some. Point they
- 32:46Speaker 2: can't keep trotting wrangle out.
- 32:47Speaker 1: There that's a.
- 32:49Speaker 2: Mess but thank God lozardo's stepping up like they THEY
- 32:52Speaker 2: i think the starting pitching, rotation they just need to
- 32:54Speaker 2: get some depth for the second half and then they
- 32:56Speaker 2: should be good for the playoffs with just a four
- 32:59Speaker 2: for four starters. Going and they got to find another outfield.
- 33:02Speaker 2: Bat you, KNOW i think it's it's probably time to
- 33:07Speaker 2: admit that your your farm system ain't the. Strongest oh,
- 33:11Speaker 2: yeah and it's second worst In Major League, baseball second
- 33:15Speaker 2: worst In Major League. Baseball and and they have they've
- 33:18Speaker 2: besides Justin, crawford no one has really has done anything
- 33:22Speaker 2: for the.
- 33:22Speaker 1: Team so, like just just just.
- 33:27Speaker 2: Just drain, it drain it for whatever players you can
- 33:29Speaker 2: get at this, point because you have an older team like,
- 33:31Speaker 2: that what's the point of holding, On like we're building
- 33:34Speaker 2: for the, future, Dude your team average age is like thirty.
- 33:38Speaker 2: Two for past, sakes Like Trey, Turner Tree, turner my,
- 33:41Speaker 2: god he better pick it. Up he's he's going to
- 33:45Speaker 2: start hitting my top least ten Favorite phillies of all.
- 33:48Speaker 1: Time i'm getting sick of that.
- 33:50Speaker 2: Guy, yeah but they got to get like like most
- 33:52Speaker 2: like almost every team that's, Contending like they got to
- 33:55Speaker 2: get another bat in the, outfield bullpen, help and they
- 33:58Speaker 2: got to find a fifth, starter hoping they can find that.
- 34:02Speaker 2: Somehow the trade deadlines come up in like what three. Weeks,
- 34:05Speaker 2: Yep dombrowski is not afraid to make, moves SO i
- 34:08Speaker 2: hope he depletes the system like as much as he
- 34:12Speaker 2: can until IT'S i, mean If, painter you got to Move,
- 34:15Speaker 2: painter go ahead and Move. Painter i'm okay with. That
- 34:18Speaker 2: it's not a big deal as long as you get
- 34:20Speaker 2: you got but to your window, Here maybe.
- 34:22Speaker 1: That one hurts, man because we've been it's like we've
- 34:25Speaker 1: been waiting so many. Years it feels like we've been
- 34:28Speaker 1: waiting a decade for this freaking. Guy, okay and when
- 34:31Speaker 1: he finally, Arrives toro is forty one years. Old, Yeah
- 34:34Speaker 1: harper's thirty, Nine like what so what the hell is the?
- 34:38Speaker 3: Point, LIKE i, know.
- 34:40Speaker 2: Like The Red sox ARE i, MEAN i think they're
- 34:42Speaker 2: playing well, recently but there's teams that are just right
- 34:45Speaker 2: for the, picking like like The tigers are completely done this,
- 34:49Speaker 2: Year like they have players you could go after like
- 34:51Speaker 2: this there's plenty of teams that are gonna be. Sellers and
- 34:54Speaker 2: The phillies got to make a move because they've made
- 34:56Speaker 2: such a run With mattingly and they're only three games.
- 34:59Speaker 1: Out, yeah R islands are right in their.
- 35:00Speaker 2: Asses so, yeah you got to make moves before those teams,
- 35:03Speaker 2: do and make make the right. Moves and The braves
- 35:07Speaker 2: and The marlins have like minor league help coming up
- 35:10Speaker 2: probably for the second half of.
- 35:12Speaker 1: This, Yeah, phillies don't they got shit down?
- 35:14Speaker 2: There, Right there's no one gonna come up and be a, surprise,
- 35:17Speaker 2: yeah for a starting, pitcher bullten or.
- 35:19Speaker 1: Outfield so you gotta make you gotta do, something, absolutely all,
- 35:22Speaker 1: Right we're gonna take a, break. Folks when we get.
- 35:24Speaker 1: Back sixers, Talk eagles. Talk stick with, us all, right
- 35:31Speaker 1: let's get into some seventy Six ers offseason. Talk, honestly
- 35:35Speaker 1: after after the, draft excuse, me after The Jalen brown,
- 35:41Speaker 1: ACQUISITION i, thought all, right, well things are probably gonna
- 35:44Speaker 1: settle down with This sixers. Team, no not, necessarily because
- 35:47Speaker 1: it's been reported That Joel, Embiid Tyres, maxi And Jalen
- 35:50Speaker 1: brown are apparently all trying to Recruit Lebron james To. Philly,
- 35:55Speaker 1: Eric i'll say, this when the Whole lebron To philly
- 35:58Speaker 1: thing was, starting that discourse online and it's it's just it's, like, okay,
- 36:04Speaker 1: people you're being. Stupid there is a real shot That
- 36:08Speaker 1: lebron could come To philadelphia to end to finish out
- 36:12Speaker 1: his career amazingly. Enough and, look of course he's not
- 36:15Speaker 1: the Same lebron that he, Was but what could this
- 36:19Speaker 1: actually do and Would lebron actually listen To Tyres, maasy
- 36:26Speaker 1: listen To joe El, embiid listen To Jalen brown to,
- 36:28Speaker 1: say you know, what this is the best place for.
- 36:30Speaker 1: You don't go To Golden state because of, this this and,
- 36:33Speaker 1: this come here because the story is going to be
- 36:36Speaker 1: a better story for you in your. CAREER i think
- 36:39Speaker 1: that's more. Compelling And i'm probably probably biased because of
- 36:43Speaker 1: A sixers fan, here BUT I i don't. KNOW i
- 36:45Speaker 1: think it'd BE i think it'd be fantastic AND i
- 36:47Speaker 1: think it'd make the season so incredibly.
- 36:50Speaker 2: Interesting, yeah when the rumor, STARTED i really did think
- 36:57Speaker 2: when they, STARTED i think he's actually gonna come To.
- 36:59Speaker 2: Philly like it just it almost makes sense because number,
- 37:04Speaker 2: ONE i don't know if you saw the big board
- 37:06Speaker 2: ON espn When Rich paul was talking to them and
- 37:09Speaker 2: he was, like this is these are the teams that
- 37:11Speaker 2: are actually in play, here And maxi had a start
- 37:14Speaker 2: next to his. Name he was the only player had
- 37:16Speaker 2: to start because he's a clutch. Client So Rich paul
- 37:19Speaker 2: And lebron are always going for clutch AND i Think
- 37:24Speaker 2: maxi has a huge saying. This he's, young he's. Fun
- 37:26Speaker 2: he Calls lebron his big brother and beads everyone gets
- 37:30Speaker 2: along with. Him B Jalen brown's a buddy Of lebron's as.
- 37:32Speaker 2: Well and as far as narratives, go because at this
- 37:35Speaker 2: point For lebron's career he has the most points in,
- 37:38Speaker 2: history he has four. Titles i'm not sure if he
- 37:42Speaker 2: really cares about a fifth. Title so basically for, him
- 37:46Speaker 2: it's all narrative or finishing out his career being the.
- 37:50Speaker 1: Story of the.
- 37:51Speaker 2: League right, yeah, Really so like The cavaliers, thing there's
- 37:56Speaker 2: only really three teams in my, opinion The, cavaliers he returns,
- 37:59Speaker 2: home finishes out as his last. Season he's The he's
- 38:02Speaker 2: he's the god Of, ohio which he already, is by the,
- 38:05Speaker 2: way is when he won that title in twenty. Sixteen
- 38:07Speaker 2: it was like it was it was, done it was. Cemented,
- 38:09Speaker 2: YES i think going back there and playing with a
- 38:12Speaker 2: Fat James harden and like not a very good. Team like,
- 38:16Speaker 2: YEAH i mean they're they're a good, team BUT i
- 38:19Speaker 2: just don't understand that, One like you already have the,
- 38:22Speaker 2: Crown Ohio, Crown like what's the point the other? One Golden.
- 38:25Speaker 2: State the narratives are kind of already, written like it
- 38:27Speaker 2: would be The Senior, tour one last, season one go
- 38:31Speaker 2: around with with With steph and one more one more time,
- 38:35Speaker 2: around like to try and win a title For Golden
- 38:38Speaker 2: state because this is kind of like there probably last. Year,
- 38:40Speaker 2: Yeah and financially it'd probably be a good move for
- 38:44Speaker 2: him as. Well he LEFT la he made a ton
- 38:46Speaker 2: of money, there a lot of business. Maneuvers Golden state
- 38:49Speaker 2: would be interesting for him personally financially because such a
- 38:54Speaker 2: he's it's he'd be right in the heart of the tech,
- 38:56Speaker 2: center AND i mean he could really plan his flag
- 39:00Speaker 2: there and invest in not that he already probably, hasn't
- 39:03Speaker 2: but like to actually be there all the time in
- 39:05Speaker 2: that in that market would probably help him financially and
- 39:08Speaker 2: it would be a good story Nationally NOW i am
- 39:11Speaker 2: biased about The philly, story BUT.
- 39:14Speaker 1: I think him coming to.
- 39:17Speaker 2: A title starved city Like, philly The sixers haven't won
- 39:22Speaker 2: since eighty, three and to be paired up With Jalen,
- 39:25Speaker 2: brown which was the biggest surprise trade since The luca.
- 39:29Speaker 2: Trade for him to come in on top of that
- 39:31Speaker 2: story and beads always a, STORY maxi AND vj are
- 39:35Speaker 2: so goddamn, Exciting and just to slot him into the
- 39:38Speaker 2: four spot and he'd be an instant starter and and
- 39:43Speaker 2: he would play really well with.
- 39:44Speaker 1: Those two guards and With Jalen.
- 39:46Speaker 2: BROWN i just think would be basketball wise and JUST
- 39:51Speaker 2: nba story, wise would just be more interesting for an
- 39:55Speaker 2: everyday fan like, me as opposed to The Golden state
- 39:58Speaker 2: thing where it's Like Stephan lebron are coming to, town
- 40:01Speaker 2: but it's like.
- 40:02Speaker 1: But they're forty years, old like right.
- 40:04Speaker 2: Right if he comes To, philly it's like he could
- 40:06Speaker 2: he could be a hero In. Philadelia like he actually could.
- 40:09Speaker 2: BE i know some People pelly hate him because He's.
- 40:12Speaker 2: Lebron WHATEVER I i never, Have i'm pretty sure those
- 40:17Speaker 2: people would turn really. Quick, yes the first thirty point
- 40:20Speaker 2: ten rebound game he has and he looks Like lebron In.
- 40:22Speaker 2: NOVEMBER i honestly think it's it's it's either got to
- 40:26Speaker 2: Be Golden state Or.
- 40:27Speaker 1: Philly AND i just Think philly would actually.
- 40:29Speaker 2: Be more of an interesting story for THE nba and
- 40:32Speaker 2: for the everyday type OF nba.
- 40:34Speaker 1: FANS i think because Of edgecom And, maxie because they're,
- 40:37Speaker 1: young you know WHAT i, mean that story is so
- 40:40Speaker 1: much more, compelling like you, said than two older guys
- 40:43Speaker 1: And steph And. Lebron it's, like, okay, yeah all, right
- 40:46Speaker 1: we get it type of. Thing but with the two
- 40:48Speaker 1: younger guys who are still developing their game And maxie getting,
- 40:53Speaker 1: ready LIKE i, mean essentially in his prime as, well,
- 40:56Speaker 1: man it'd be it'd be fucking.
- 40:58Speaker 2: Phenomenal and it'd be five titles in four different. Cities yeah,
- 41:02Speaker 2: yeah across the. Country that'd be.
- 41:04Speaker 1: Amazing like that would put him like that would get
- 41:08Speaker 1: him up to The Jordan kobe like he alreadys. Up
- 41:11Speaker 1: he's already up, there but that fifth title in another,
- 41:14Speaker 1: city star for a championship because it's been so, long
- 41:18Speaker 1: would absolutely like cement the narrative.
- 41:20Speaker 2: Like he is one of the, best maybe the. Best
- 41:23Speaker 2: if you're younger than, me you might think he's the
- 41:25Speaker 2: best player of all. Time, yeah but, LIKE i just
- 41:28Speaker 2: think that is the best pathway to ending of his.
- 41:31Speaker 1: Career and you already have enough. Money you're gonna go
- 41:33Speaker 1: To Golden state and build AN ai, company, right, like
- 41:36Speaker 1: we already have a bunch of SHITTY ai companies that
- 41:38Speaker 1: aren't going. Anywhere come To philly win a. Title believe,
- 41:43Speaker 1: me we. Will we will love, You, yes, Absolutely there's
- 41:46Speaker 1: nothing you could do to hurt. Us we've already been. Hurt, Yes,
- 41:49Speaker 1: like just come. Play if we don't, win THAT'S i
- 41:52Speaker 1: don't think anyone will blame, him, right they'll go out on.
- 41:55Speaker 1: Top LIKE i JUST i feel like, it, honestly would
- 41:57Speaker 1: be the best. DECISION i am biased as, shit BUT i.
- 42:00Speaker 1: DO i do like the idea of. HIM i love.
- 42:02Speaker 1: IT i love it, TOO i really. Do, man great
- 42:05Speaker 1: way to end this first part of the show before
- 42:07Speaker 1: we head to the interview on what we're thrown down
- 42:09Speaker 1: on the. Table, buddy you got any final thoughts? Here?
- 42:13Speaker 1: Yeah none for. Me i'm. Tired, Yes i'm tired. Too
- 42:17Speaker 1: we're Gonna i'll Be i'll be fifteen a. Month, Jeff
- 42:19Speaker 1: oh my, god that's. Right he start doing this show
- 42:22Speaker 1: at like six. O'clock afternoons at dinner at five point,
- 42:28Speaker 1: thirty show at, six bed at. Seven, yes all, right,
- 42:34Speaker 1: Buddy i'm gonna let you, go, folks were gonna take
- 42:37Speaker 1: a break when we get. Back eagles talk with our
- 42:39Speaker 1: Friend Lou diviossi From Locked On eagles stick with us
- 42:45Speaker 1: and now on the table, right let's dive into. This

- 42:55Speaker 1: corner and joining us this week from The Locked On
- 42:57Speaker 1: eagles PODCAST i subscribe On Apple. Podcasts also catch some
- 43:02Speaker 1: of their stuff over on the the youtubes where you're

- 43:17Speaker 4: Jeff i've said it to you off, air but WHEN
- 43:20Speaker 4: i first got on social media when it was Still,
- 43:22Speaker 4: twitter back in LIKE i don't, know twenty, ten twenty,
- 43:24Speaker 4: eleven you guys one of the first Like philadelphia PODCASTS
- 43:27Speaker 4: i ever subscribed to. You SO i always love coming.
- 43:29Speaker 1: On it's a great time having, you AND i love
- 43:32Speaker 1: how we're always able to get into real depth and
- 43:35Speaker 1: substantive depth when it comes to This Philadelphia eagles. Team,
- 43:38Speaker 1: yes we're still in the off season right. Now training
- 43:41Speaker 1: camp is right around the, corner BUT i wanted to
- 43:44Speaker 1: before we start diving into the team a little bit
- 43:46Speaker 1: what we're going to be seeing this coming regular season
- 43:48Speaker 1: from The Philadelphia. Eagles we're gonna talk About Locked on
- 43:51Speaker 1: for a, Minute locked On eagles. Specifically LIKE i, Said
- 43:54Speaker 1: i've been a subscriber for a, while but you have
- 43:57Speaker 1: a new, addition, essentially this new series that you're putting
- 44:00Speaker 1: out AND i really wanted to talk about it BECAUSE
- 44:02Speaker 1: i freaking enjoyed the hell out of it this past.
- 44:06Speaker 1: Week it's Called Bleeding. Green The Deep. Cuts you drop
- 44:10Speaker 1: your first episode again this past week here took us
- 44:13Speaker 1: back to The Carson wentz days during his time as,
- 44:16Speaker 1: quarterback his challenges and the team's challenges with that twenty nineteen,
- 44:21Speaker 1: season them needing to win out the remainder of that
- 44:25Speaker 1: regular season to get to the, playoffs all the injuries
- 44:28Speaker 1: that occurred with that. TEAM i feel like it's right
- 44:30Speaker 1: in the back of my, Mind it'll always be. There
- 44:32Speaker 1: and specifically how the receiver Position Greg ward you had
- 44:36Speaker 1: mentioned and he was a main topic within that particular
- 44:41Speaker 1: episode that you kicked Off Bleeding green The Deep. Cuts
- 44:44Speaker 1: so can you tell us about this new series that
- 44:47Speaker 1: you're doing and really what you hope to do with
- 44:50Speaker 1: it in the.
- 44:50Speaker 3: Future, yeah first, OFF i appreciate you listening to.
- 44:52Speaker 4: It you, know it's hard when you do a podcast
- 44:55Speaker 4: every single, Day, yeah to get those side projects up and.
- 44:58Speaker 4: Running AND i come from a radio Back SO i
- 45:00Speaker 4: went to school for. JOURNALISM i worked AT am news
- 45:03Speaker 4: radio stations and you, know kind of had those LIKE
- 45:06Speaker 4: mpr kind of, background AND i liked audio narrative kind
- 45:10Speaker 4: of formats.
- 45:11Speaker 3: And it's tough to do that.
- 45:12Speaker 4: Nowadays SO i just while we're in the dead zone
- 45:15Speaker 4: of the offseason and there's not Much eagles content to
- 45:17Speaker 4: get into about the current, TEAM i thought now it
- 45:20Speaker 4: would be a good time to launch this IDEA i
- 45:22Speaker 4: had a couple of years ago where you, know we
- 45:24Speaker 4: always like to go back into history and you, know
- 45:26Speaker 4: relive the most famous moments In eagles, history Right Super
- 45:29Speaker 4: bowl fifty, two fifty, seven fifty, nine you look at
- 45:31Speaker 4: the early two thousands runs and you know there's all
- 45:34Speaker 4: these like very famous moments we always like to go back.
- 45:36Speaker 4: To But i've always been somebody that kind of loves
- 45:38Speaker 4: the obscure, seasons the really underrated stories in franchise. History
- 45:42Speaker 4: SO i THOUGHT i would do a series of, like
- 45:44Speaker 4: at the, time really, intriguing fascinating stories that maybe because
- 45:48Speaker 4: it didn't end in a championship that year or because you,
- 45:51Speaker 4: know that certain, position we got the next star right
- 45:54Speaker 4: after this, Guy, yeah we kind of just like forget about.
- 45:56Speaker 4: It SO i kind of wanted to bring that back
- 45:58Speaker 4: up to the. Surface and everybody knows, ME i was
- 46:00Speaker 4: A Carson wentz guy same early on in the.
- 46:02Speaker 3: Podcast still defend him to this.
- 46:04Speaker 4: Day and that twenty nineteen, season to, me when you
- 46:07Speaker 4: remove The Super bowl, years was one of the most,
- 46:09Speaker 4: enjoyable fascinating seasons That i've ever recovered and watched as
- 46:13Speaker 4: an analyst and a. Fan so you, know that was
- 46:15Speaker 4: just the first, one AND i just it's Something i've
- 46:17Speaker 4: been passionate about for a couple of. Years So i'm
- 46:18Speaker 4: excited to get that.
- 46:19Speaker 1: Going something that you were able to do with this
- 46:21Speaker 1: new series, Again Folks Bleeding, green the deep cuts over
- 46:24Speaker 1: it locked On, eagles is the emotional aspects of what
- 46:28Speaker 1: that season was like you said didn't lead to a
- 46:30Speaker 1: championship didn't lead to a long playoff run by any,
- 46:35Speaker 1: stretch but the emotions that we as a fan base
- 46:39Speaker 1: felt we were able TO i was able to relive that,
- 46:42Speaker 1: honestly wow while listening to. It and we do forget
- 46:46Speaker 1: those moments because almost every, year in any, way shape or,
- 46:49Speaker 1: form there are emotional moments Within Eagles, nation within this fan.
- 46:52Speaker 1: Base you captured it, well and it's it's that's one
- 46:56Speaker 1: emotional moment in time In eagles history That i'll always.
- 46:59Speaker 4: Remember it's one of the most important seasons in franchise.
- 47:02Speaker 4: History where to think about, it, right BECAUSE i Think
- 47:03Speaker 4: Howie roseman learned that, YEAR i have to support my
- 47:07Speaker 4: quarterback better LIKE i cannot just you, know and he did.
- 47:10Speaker 4: Try he brought back To Sean, jackson he Drafted Miles
- 47:13Speaker 4: sanders j J. R thiega Whiteside re signed Al Sean Jeffrey,
- 47:16Speaker 4: like it wasn't an effort, thing but he's, LIKE i
- 47:18Speaker 4: gotta do better execution wise of supporting my. Quarterback so
- 47:21Speaker 4: that was a big reason you Got DeVante smith AND
- 47:24Speaker 4: Aj brown in the. Future, yeah but also If Carson
- 47:26Speaker 4: wentz doesn't get cheap shotted in that playoff game By Jadavion. Clowney,
- 47:29Speaker 4: yeah you never Draft Jalen hurts and you never get
- 47:32Speaker 4: this golden era you've had After SO i just, think,
- 47:35Speaker 4: again like you, said during the year of such an emotional,
- 47:37Speaker 4: rollercoaster and it was fun to watch that team battle
- 47:39Speaker 4: adversity again and. Again but at the end of the day,
- 47:42Speaker 4: too you look back at those events had to happen
- 47:44Speaker 4: to get where we're at. Now so that's WHY i
- 47:46Speaker 4: wanted to start with that. One and, yeah, again appreciate
- 47:48Speaker 4: everybody for checking it.
- 47:50Speaker 1: Out, YEAH i can't wait to hear more of The
- 47:53Speaker 1: Bleeding green The Deep cuts episodes in the coming weeks
- 47:57Speaker 1: and months for. Sure, Here so let's now get into
- 48:01Speaker 1: This bird season training camp right around the. CORNER i should,
- 48:05Speaker 1: say the season's not here, yet but training camp certainly
- 48:08Speaker 1: is almost. Here let's talk about what we're gonna need
- 48:10Speaker 1: to see from the relationship between New eagles offensive Coordinator
- 48:16Speaker 1: Sean manyon and the franchise Quarterback Jalen. Hurts really been
- 48:20Speaker 1: given a lot of thought to, this lou over these
- 48:22Speaker 1: past few, weeks And i've been thinking to, myself you,
- 48:24Speaker 1: know what kind of change should we really expect with
- 48:27Speaker 1: This eagles offense this, year and how is that inevitably
- 48:29Speaker 1: going to translate over to How Jalen hurts will have
- 48:33Speaker 1: to develop with this new offensive, leadership because, yes he's
- 48:37Speaker 1: a veteran in this, league but there are certain developmental
- 48:39Speaker 1: aspects of his game that's gonna need to. Happen With
- 48:41Speaker 1: Sean mannon, here what are your?
- 48:42Speaker 4: Thoughts, YEAH i don't think this is going to be
- 48:44Speaker 4: like in twenty twenty four when they tried to make
- 48:47Speaker 4: this offense different schematically in that, first you, Know september
- 48:51Speaker 4: stretch of the season With Kellen moore as the offensive
- 48:54Speaker 4: coordinator and play. Caller it wasn't working and they kind
- 48:56Speaker 4: of threw it out the, window went back to this
- 48:58Speaker 4: run first, approach and obviously for that season it worked
- 49:01Speaker 4: he won a. Championship but this YEAR i don't, Know
- 49:04Speaker 4: like if they have kind of a up and down
- 49:06Speaker 4: stretch of the first month and a half of the
- 49:08Speaker 4: season with the passing, GAME i don't think it's gonna
- 49:10Speaker 4: be the last time where they say let's get rid
- 49:12Speaker 4: of Everything manny and was. Doing we're going back to
- 49:14Speaker 4: The Sirianni Hurtz rpo run, game centric deep ball or
- 49:18Speaker 4: nothing kind of. OFFENSE i really think they're gonna make
- 49:21Speaker 4: him grow and really force him to stay in those
- 49:24Speaker 4: uncomfortable areas like throwing over the middle of the, field
- 49:27Speaker 4: growing with, anticipation you. KNOW i think being quicker as a.
- 49:30Speaker 4: Passer they're not going to just go back after six
- 49:33Speaker 4: weeks and, say all, right he's not, comfortable we're getting
- 49:36Speaker 4: rid of. This SO i think thing's gonna have to
- 49:37Speaker 4: be a lot, quicker and you're gonna have to use
- 49:40Speaker 4: areas of the field that you really haven't over these
- 49:42Speaker 4: last six to seven. Years and that middle of the
- 49:44Speaker 4: field especially is the, big you know portion that we're talking. About,
- 49:49Speaker 4: yeah they went out. There their first two draft picks
- 49:50Speaker 4: were all about committing to this. Change when you look
- 49:53Speaker 4: at the style of player Like Mackay lemon And Eli
- 49:55Speaker 4: stowers are as. Rookies this was in the name of
- 49:58Speaker 4: Helping jalen. Grow so was bringing in man and SO
- 50:01Speaker 4: i think they're really committed to. This and that doesn't
- 50:03Speaker 4: mean the run games still won't be the identity of this,
- 50:05Speaker 4: team but they really want to get the passing game
- 50:08Speaker 4: better than it's been the last two regular.
- 50:09Speaker 1: Seasons Lo i've been dreaming of mesh concepts.
- 50:14Speaker 4: Is dreaming of a screen pass that, Works, JEFF i
- 50:16Speaker 4: mean quick. PASSING i think this is the Biggest we
- 50:18Speaker 4: can talk all about the middle of the field and
- 50:20Speaker 4: the kind of routes that this offense should. Run are
- 50:23Speaker 4: you gonna be in, shotgun under, center prestat. Motion all
- 50:26Speaker 4: of this is very important to the. Conversation but the
- 50:28Speaker 4: thing that drove me the most nuts last year was
- 50:30Speaker 4: they just didn't know how to get easy. Yards, like,
- 50:32Speaker 4: hey a corner is lining up ten fifteen yards off the. Ball,
- 50:35Speaker 4: YES i just remember Watching Tom bradbeck in the. Day
- 50:37Speaker 4: just point to his, Receiver just throw a quick five yard,
- 50:40Speaker 4: curl even if it wasn't the, play and now you're
- 50:43Speaker 4: above the. STICKS i just think last, year if they
- 50:45Speaker 4: weren't running the, football they had no idea how to
- 50:47Speaker 4: get easy. Yards that's just so important in the passing,
- 50:50Speaker 4: game and we just haven't had.
- 50:51Speaker 3: It.
- 50:52Speaker 1: Absolutely, look you talk about the rushing, attack and it
- 50:54Speaker 1: appears that the offensive line is going to be coming
- 50:58Speaker 1: into camp rather, Healthy thank. Goodness it's going to be
- 51:01Speaker 1: interesting to see How Saquon barkley in this running back
- 51:05Speaker 1: room really tries to elevate the rushing game this. Season,
- 51:09Speaker 1: again a healthy offensive line means that this team is
- 51:12Speaker 1: going to be nasty running the. Ball you mentioned that
- 51:15Speaker 1: is their. Identity we believe it's going to continue to
- 51:18Speaker 1: be the identity of This eagles. Offense But i'm just,
- 51:20Speaker 1: wondering how about we see the rushing attack change or
- 51:23Speaker 1: alter this year Under Shawn, manyon will it at?
- 51:26Speaker 4: ALL i do think that it's going to look. Different
- 51:29Speaker 4: Lane johnson has kind of talked about. THIS i think
- 51:31Speaker 4: Even Jordan, maya A lota And Saquon barkley have discussed
- 51:34Speaker 4: how this run game will be. Different it's going to
- 51:36Speaker 4: be a lot more outside zone than inside, run a
- 51:38Speaker 4: lot of one cut. Running it's going to be a
- 51:41Speaker 4: lot from under. Center AND i think it actually Benefits
- 51:44Speaker 4: it doesn't Benefit Jalen hurts his mobility of kind of
- 51:47Speaker 4: keeping these defenders in conflict with is he going.
- 51:49Speaker 3: To pull the football or.
- 51:50Speaker 4: Not but For Saquon barkley And Tank, bigsby when you
- 51:53Speaker 4: look at twenty twenty five when they ran the, best
- 51:56Speaker 4: it was those reps when they were under. Center AND
- 51:58Speaker 4: i think it's also going to take less pressure or
- 52:01Speaker 4: it's gonna take more pressure off the shoulders of your.
- 52:04Speaker 4: Tackles Lane johnson and May alatta a lot of the.
- 52:06Speaker 4: Time those guys are on. Islands lane talked about that
- 52:08Speaker 4: this offseason where he's gonna get a lot more help this.
- 52:11Speaker 4: Year you're gonna have tight ends having to commit to
- 52:13Speaker 4: block a lot. More and SO i think the run game,
- 52:16Speaker 4: again LIKE i, said they're committing to change in the passing,
- 52:19Speaker 4: Game BUT i don't think suddenly they're gonna be a
- 52:21Speaker 4: team that throws forty plus times a game and that's
- 52:23Speaker 4: how you're winning like in twenty. Seventeen, yeah If Saquon
- 52:26Speaker 4: barkley in this offensive line looked like they did in
- 52:28Speaker 4: twenty twenty, four that's still gonna be the featured part
- 52:31Speaker 4: of this. Unit And i'm, projecting if everybody's, healthy that
- 52:35Speaker 4: that they're closer to the twenty twenty four team running
- 52:37Speaker 4: wise than twenty twenty.
- 52:38Speaker 3: Five.
- 52:38Speaker 4: YEAH i don't know if they're gonna be historically great
- 52:40Speaker 4: like that, again BUT i think there's a middle ground
- 52:43Speaker 4: between the last two seasons we've seen and it will
- 52:45Speaker 4: be good enough where that's still an identity of your football.
- 52:48Speaker 1: Team, Yeah, igat like you, said an identity of what
- 52:50Speaker 1: this team. Is that's how they have been. Successful AND
- 52:53Speaker 1: i would imagine we're gonna be seeing a lot more
- 52:56Speaker 1: of that given the injury. Bug hopefully the injury bug
- 52:59Speaker 1: stays away from this team for. Sure so, look we
- 53:02Speaker 1: are going to take a, break. Folks when we get,
- 53:04Speaker 1: back we've got More eagles. Talk we're specifically gonna be
- 53:06Speaker 1: diving into the. Defense stick, Around we'll be right. Back all,
- 53:12Speaker 1: Right we're back with our, Buddy Lou debiassi from The
- 53:15Speaker 1: Locked On eagles. PODCAST i subscribe On Apple. Podcasts check
- 53:18Speaker 1: out what they're doing over on YouTube as, well The
- 53:22Speaker 1: Locked On, network great great. Network we love what they're.
- 53:25Speaker 1: Doing and now i'd love to get into This eagles
- 53:27Speaker 1: defense with you as we're looking towards training camp, Here, Lou,
- 53:31Speaker 1: LOOK i do have some concerns about the pass, rush
- 53:35Speaker 1: AND i guess this overall lack of consistency that we've
- 53:38Speaker 1: seen over the past, year and Specifically Nolan Smith Jylex.
- 53:42Speaker 1: Hunt they are good pass, rushers don't get me wrong out, there.
- 53:45Speaker 1: FOLKS i love both of these. GUYS i think they are,
- 53:48Speaker 1: productive but there's a consistency factor here that is kind
- 53:52Speaker 1: of raised my. EYEBROW i, mean they're, look they're not
- 53:55Speaker 1: bums at. All there are no bums on this team at.
- 53:59Speaker 1: All but, again there's a certain level of consistency THAT
- 54:03Speaker 1: i think the pass rush needs to get to to
- 54:04Speaker 1: help this defense. Out and Then Jonathan, grenard we, know
- 54:08Speaker 1: how does heat actually fit into this picture as? Well
- 54:11Speaker 1: there seems to be some unanswered questions really heading into camp,
- 54:15Speaker 1: Here lou And i'm just, wondering how are you feeling
- 54:17Speaker 1: about the pass rush and how consistent it may or
- 54:21Speaker 1: may not be this coming.
- 54:22Speaker 4: Season i'm actually really excited about. IT i THINK i
- 54:25Speaker 4: feel a lot better heading into this year on paper
- 54:27Speaker 4: what this edge group looks like then last, year because
- 54:30Speaker 4: they didn't Have Jalen. Phillips at the start of last,
- 54:32Speaker 4: season they were projecting after an incredible playoff run From
- 54:36Speaker 4: Nolan smith when he broke the single season you, know
- 54:38Speaker 4: playoff season franchise record for sacks in a single, run
- 54:42Speaker 4: and Jaloks hunt really came on at the end of the.
- 54:44Speaker 4: Year they were expecting those guys to be the top
- 54:46Speaker 4: two players in your. Rotation it didn't work out that,
- 54:49Speaker 4: way so you had to bring In Jalen. PHILLIPS i
- 54:51Speaker 4: Think grenard is as good As, phillips if not, better
- 54:55Speaker 4: and you got them for. Cheaper SO i think The
- 54:57Speaker 4: eagles are like, you where they Like Hunting's, smith they
- 55:00Speaker 4: believe they can eventually become a number one guy in this,
- 55:04Speaker 4: rotation but they're neither one is there. Yet they have
- 55:07Speaker 4: flashed that, potential, yeah twenty twenty, four And jayoks hunted
- 55:12Speaker 4: as well in twenty twenty, five but neither put it
- 55:15Speaker 4: together for a full year year after year Like grenard.
- 55:18Speaker 4: HAS i Mean, GRENARD i think it has been one
- 55:19Speaker 4: of the more underrated edge rushers of the last like
- 55:22Speaker 4: five to six. Years SO i think when you look
- 55:24Speaker 4: at those, three that's a really strong. Rotation And i'm
- 55:27Speaker 4: higher Than arnold A bikiti than a lot of. PEOPLE
- 55:30Speaker 4: i think he's only scratching the surface of what he could.
- 55:32Speaker 4: Become he was top ten in a lot of pass
- 55:34Speaker 4: rush metrics last, year including pass rush win rate in
- 55:37Speaker 4: the second half of the. Season him is your fourth,
- 55:39Speaker 4: guy like and if maybe you bring Back Brandon graham
- 55:42Speaker 4: still had some juice last year as an interior. Rusher
- 55:45Speaker 4: he had three sacks in just a couple. GAMES i
- 55:48Speaker 4: like it a lot better than last year where they
- 55:50Speaker 4: Needed uce And Oja lare And Zadarius smith to help
- 55:53Speaker 4: out all these, veterans they're kind of just figuring out
- 55:56Speaker 4: on the. Fly, yeah this year feels like they have
- 55:58Speaker 4: a much better.
- 55:58Speaker 1: Plan all, Right, well, look there's one PLAYER i want
- 56:01Speaker 1: to get into on this defense THAT i think is
- 56:04Speaker 1: going to be one of the biggest cogs in terms
- 56:08Speaker 1: of how offenses are going to need to scheme around,
- 56:11Speaker 1: him and that Is Cooper. Dejene as he continues to
- 56:14Speaker 1: develop in this league and on This eagles team as
- 56:17Speaker 1: part of this, defense he really is that chess piece
- 56:21Speaker 1: for the. Defense as he's heading into his third, year
- 56:24Speaker 1: seems they're going to be asking him to play basically
- 56:26Speaker 1: wherever he is needed with regard to an end game
- 56:31Speaker 1: decision making. Basis we know from the reports that defensive
- 56:34Speaker 1: coaching staff had him cross training at safety during the.
- 56:38Speaker 1: Offseason i'm just not sure what to think of this
- 56:40Speaker 1: given his absolute dominance as a slot corner of the
- 56:43Speaker 1: past two. Seasons, LOU i don't know what are your
- 56:46Speaker 1: thoughts here On Cooper dejene's just evolving role on this.
- 56:50Speaker 3: TEAM i think he can do whatever you ask him to.
- 56:53Speaker 4: Do if you ask him going to be the emergency,
- 56:54Speaker 4: QUARTERBACK i think he could probably win you a game or.
- 56:56Speaker 4: Two he's just The Swiss Army knight of this, team,
- 56:58Speaker 4: Right so DO i THINK i Think Cooper degen could
- 57:00Speaker 4: be a star, safety kind of like A Kyle hamilton
- 57:03Speaker 4: or you, know you look At brian Branch over IN
- 57:06Speaker 4: uh In. Detroit like this player you can ask to
- 57:08Speaker 4: do everything what you used to ask Of Malcolm. Jenkins,
- 57:11Speaker 4: yeah kind of just be the just match up nightmare on. Defense,
- 57:14Speaker 4: absolutely AND i think The eagles want to explore that
- 57:17Speaker 4: at a part time level now that they have that
- 57:18Speaker 4: flexibility because they Signed Wrek. Wollan they don't Need Cooper
- 57:22Speaker 4: degen to play outside corner and base and then kick
- 57:25Speaker 4: into the slot in. Nickel now they can ask him
- 57:27Speaker 4: to do more When wollan is out. There but at
- 57:30Speaker 4: the same, time with that being, SAID i don't know
- 57:32Speaker 4: IF i want him to ever move full time to
- 57:33Speaker 4: safety BECAUSE i think in the modern DAY nfl that's the. Way,
- 57:38Speaker 4: yeah slot corner is almost as important as outside. CORNER
- 57:41Speaker 4: a lot of offenses their best player plays. INSIDE i
- 57:44Speaker 4: mean they The cowboys MOVE Cd lamb inside all the.
- 57:46Speaker 4: TIME jsn And, SEATTLE i Mean Puka nakua with The,
- 57:50Speaker 4: Rams like so many, teams their best player plays in the.
- 57:53Speaker 4: Slot SO i think you want to have that elite
- 57:56Speaker 4: slot corner more so than like a second ELITE.
- 57:59Speaker 3: Si that's just my.
- 58:01Speaker 4: Opinion, yeah AND i take it you, agree, RIGHT i
- 58:03Speaker 4: mean absolutely not what it used to. Be and the
- 58:05Speaker 4: slot normally used to have a very limited corner in
- 58:09Speaker 4: there with a certain skill. Set but, nowadays like you
- 58:12Speaker 4: kind of, have you kind of have to have a
- 58:13Speaker 4: complete player there because on, offense it's becoming that. Too
- 58:17Speaker 4: both slot roles on off the defense were part time
- 58:20Speaker 4: positions led by. Guys it only had a couple of,
- 58:23Speaker 4: strengths but clear weaknesses that the slot hid from, you, right,
- 58:26Speaker 4: absolutely not to get off on a tangent about, this
- 58:28Speaker 4: BUT i JUST i think it's very valuable in THE nfl,
- 58:30Speaker 4: now very complete players play in the.
- 58:32Speaker 3: Slot.
- 58:33Speaker 1: ABSOLUTELY i don't think The eagles win their Last Super
- 58:36Speaker 1: bowl Without Cooper. DEGENE i, MEAN i simplistic and elementary.
- 58:40Speaker 4: Thing what happened when they Benched, no you're, Right look
- 58:42Speaker 4: what happened when they Benched Avonte. Maddox you know after
- 58:44Speaker 4: the bye week That cleveland, game did you kick things
- 58:46Speaker 4: off and the defense was completely?
- 58:48Speaker 1: Different it was absolutely completely. Different so it's gonna be
- 58:51Speaker 1: really interesting to see Where Cooper degene like where where
- 58:54Speaker 1: he's lining. Up, MOSTLY i part of me hopes that
- 58:58Speaker 1: he kind of just stays in the, slot that he's
- 58:59Speaker 1: not necessarily looking to be transformed into a.
- 59:02Speaker 4: Safety we play a least adequately for, That, remaine BECAUSE
- 59:06Speaker 4: i don't know who else the slot corner would.
- 59:08Speaker 3: Be then that's nothing.
- 59:10Speaker 4: RIGHT i think the combination Of dejeene the slot and
- 59:12Speaker 4: apposite safety is a better combo than Like degene at
- 59:15Speaker 4: safety and Then Michael carter in the.
- 59:17Speaker 3: SLOT i DON'T i. THINK i think the first is the.
- 59:20Speaker 3: ALTERNATIVE i.
- 59:21Speaker 1: AGREE i agree, Completely So, lou BEFORE i let you,
- 59:24Speaker 1: GO i love talking special teams on the. Podcast always
- 59:28Speaker 1: have such an important part of the game of. Football
- 59:30Speaker 1: it always gets shoved to the. Side people don't want
- 59:32Speaker 1: to talk about, kickers, punters the return. Game but, LOOK
- 59:35Speaker 1: i want to ask you about the kicker position on this.
- 59:38Speaker 1: Team Jake elliott left a lot of points on the
- 59:41Speaker 1: field over the past couple, seasons and, again kickers are
- 59:45Speaker 1: just such an important and critical part of the game of.
- 59:48Speaker 1: Football but he has. Struggled jake has absolutely, struggled AND
- 59:52Speaker 1: i think The eagles may need to keep their options.
- 59:54Speaker 1: Open in my, opinion will some competition potentially Help Jake
- 59:59Speaker 1: elliet during CAMP i don't know where do you see
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: his leg and this kicking game going this.
- 1:00:04Speaker 4: Season it's tough Because elliott's legend, here, Right he's been
- 1:00:07Speaker 4: your kicker since twenty. Seventeen he's made some of the
- 1:00:09Speaker 4: biggest kicks in franchise. History he's won two. Rings but
- 1:00:13Speaker 4: And i'll give him credit in twenty twenty, four he
- 1:00:15Speaker 4: really bounced back in the playoffs during The Super bowl.
- 1:00:17Speaker 4: Runs but at the same, time with that being, said
- 1:00:20Speaker 4: it's two regular seasons in a row now WHERE i
- 1:00:23Speaker 4: am nervous every time he goes out. There and it
- 1:00:25Speaker 4: used to BE i feel like in his, Prime Jake
- 1:00:28Speaker 4: elliot would always randomly miss a kick that's under fifty, yards,
- 1:00:32Speaker 4: right but you always knew if it was fifty plus,
- 1:00:34Speaker 4: yards he's nailing. It he was one of the best
- 1:00:37Speaker 4: long kick field goal kickers in THE. Nfl and now
- 1:00:41Speaker 4: like those aren't consistent. Either it really hasn't been since
- 1:00:44Speaker 4: twenty twenty three from a consistency. Standpoint so the problem is,
- 1:00:49Speaker 4: contractually like you're kind of on the books with this.
- 1:00:51Speaker 4: Guy you're gonna bring him back this. YEAR i was
- 1:00:53Speaker 4: at The combine press conference With Howie. Roseman he said
- 1:00:56Speaker 4: he believes In Jake elliott's still they are big fans
- 1:00:59Speaker 4: of him inside the.
- 1:00:59Speaker 3: Build But i'm with.
- 1:01:01Speaker 4: You, Look i'm not scouring the free agent market for.
- 1:01:03Speaker 4: KICKERS i don't know who's out there that should be the, competition,
- 1:01:07Speaker 4: Right BUT i do believe you got to add somebody.
- 1:01:10Speaker 4: ELSE i just if you're If Jake elliott's your only
- 1:01:13Speaker 4: plan again this, year, YEAH i don't. Know LIKE i,
- 1:01:15Speaker 4: think like you, know we saw last year how automatic
- 1:01:20Speaker 4: like big kicks are in the league, now and, yeah
- 1:01:22Speaker 4: The eagles didn't really have. That SO i think you're
- 1:01:24Speaker 4: at a huge disadvantage if he continues to miss, those
- 1:01:27Speaker 4: because THE nfl just feels like everybody can boot a
- 1:01:29Speaker 4: sixty plus yarder. Nowadays, Right that's what twenty twenty five felt,
- 1:01:32Speaker 4: like AND i felt like The eagles were the only
- 1:01:33Speaker 4: team in the league that couldn't do.
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: That. Absolutely oh, man what a great. CONVERSATION i can't.
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: WAIT i want to talk to you again at some.
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: Point maybe we can get together during training camp or
