- 0:24Speaker 3: Morning Wow.
- 0:25Speaker 2: If you're listening Glorious Morning, the Ruse Morning. If you're
- 0:28Speaker 2: around number one fan and you listen at six am
- 0:31Speaker 2: when this drops, there are there are a lot of
- 0:33Speaker 2: people that listen to this at six am early birds.
- 0:35Speaker 3: Yeah, I love it.
- 0:36Speaker 2: On the work commute and the hot girl walkie in
- 0:39Speaker 2: the morning.
- 0:40Speaker 3: This is you and I'm in your ear holes right now. Hi,
- 0:44Speaker 3: how are you? Do you hear that?
- 0:46Speaker 2: It's me?
- 0:47Speaker 3: It's worry, It's just me, but hey, it's you. But hey,
- 0:51Speaker 3: it's you.
- 0:52Speaker 1: And today we are sharing the four types of hobbies
- 0:55Speaker 1: you need.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Love a fucking hobby, love a habit, love hobby. We do,
- 1:01Speaker 3: but before we get into it, we always share our
- 1:03Speaker 3: obsession of the week.
- 1:05Speaker 1: So Dally Bailey, love of my life and best friend forever,
- 1:08Speaker 1: big bong.
- 1:12Speaker 3: But your butt looks great today, by the.
- 1:14Speaker 2: Way, Well, what a sigiwy because my obsession this week
- 1:19Speaker 2: is a new hair product from People Hair and it's
- 1:23Speaker 2: their slick Styler, which is only sixteen dollars sligh. Yeah,
- 1:28Speaker 2: you can get it from Coal's how fabulous. I love
- 1:33Speaker 2: a good like beauty buy that you can just get
- 1:35Speaker 2: from a grocery store or a drug store.
- 1:36Speaker 3: Yeah, me too. But it's a really good slick styler.
- 1:40Speaker 2: So if you're a slickbun girlie, definitely grab one because
- 1:44Speaker 2: helps tame the flyways.
- 1:46Speaker 3: Who isn't a slickbun girly, that's my question.
- 1:48Speaker 1: I saw it being recently saying that slick buns are
- 1:52Speaker 1: out and like the messy pool back bun yeah is in.
- 1:57Speaker 1: So it's like more of like the Tussl's Like, yeah,
- 2:00Speaker 1: I've mean trying to rock that a little bit more,
- 2:02Speaker 1: but even that takes like a level of styling, and
- 2:05Speaker 1: today I just didn't have Just there's just something about
- 2:08Speaker 1: the slip back style that makes me feel like I've
- 2:12Speaker 1: got it together.
- 2:13Speaker 3: Mm, like it's gonna be okay, Yeah, I agree. All right,
- 2:17Speaker 3: what are you obsessed with? Okay, I've got two obsessions.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Okay. One, I saw an article that says winged eyeliner
- 2:25Speaker 1: is now the skinny gene for gen z.
- 2:29Speaker 3: I've got a winged say. We're both wearing wind. I've
- 2:32Speaker 3: seen that too, that it's like another millennial lick. I'm
- 2:36Speaker 3: sick of this shit, I know. And you're on the
- 2:39Speaker 3: cusp too.
- 2:40Speaker 2: You're still copying a beaten I lose either way you do.
- 2:46Speaker 1: I'm struggling on the inside here. All right, let's get
- 2:49Speaker 1: into the episode of Chickjooks. Four hobbies that you need.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Starting with your first one is one to fuel and
- 3:01Speaker 2: feel your body.
- 3:03Speaker 1: It is vital to prioritize both your mental and physical health.
- 3:09Speaker 1: The most important thing, though, is finding something that you enjoy,
- 3:12Speaker 1: like this shouldn't feel like a chore, but something that
- 3:15Speaker 1: makes you feel good. And saying this as well as
- 3:18Speaker 1: two people that are not like the fitness wellness girlies. Yeah,
- 3:23Speaker 1: I do think this year is the first.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Year actually you were really good with it. Last year
- 3:28Speaker 2: I wasn't necessarily very good. You've always been good with it.
- 3:31Speaker 2: I'm just I'm just what's the word where you put
- 3:35Speaker 2: your insecurities.
- 3:36Speaker 3: On other projecting projecting that old chestnut. Well, this year
- 3:42Speaker 3: is the first year that.
- 3:43Speaker 1: I feel like I've actually been consistent with a habit
- 3:47Speaker 1: that fuels my body and feels my body. And I've
- 3:51Speaker 1: never felt more kind of in tune with my body
- 3:55Speaker 1: as being a vessel and something that works for me
- 4:00Speaker 1: other than something that is to be looked at.
- 4:02Speaker 3: Then I have this year.
- 4:04Speaker 1: And there was a recent study that showed an MRI
- 4:07Speaker 1: of a brain before and after a twenty minute walk
- 4:10Speaker 1: on a group of children, and the results showed that
- 4:13Speaker 1: those who had walked had significantly more cognitive performance.
- 4:17Speaker 3: And this is the thing that.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Gets you into the hobby because I was saying to you,
- 4:24Speaker 1: how at the start of this year, like I couldn't run,
- 4:27Speaker 1: Like for a minute, I was like, also, I reckon,
- 4:31Speaker 1: if you go back two years I was slagging off running.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Yeah, you would have been like I will just never run,
- 4:37Speaker 2: which was like, one, if you don't want to, I
- 4:39Speaker 2: would be like, what's the point of running? I was like,
- 4:40Speaker 2: it's backing, boring, No, no, no.
- 4:43Speaker 3: When I was in little athletics.
- 4:44Speaker 2: I don't know if I've told you this story, I
- 4:46Speaker 2: don't know when I was in little athletics, I think
- 4:49Speaker 2: this was maybe like my third week, so.
- 4:51Speaker 3: I was bored.
- 4:52Speaker 1: I was like, oh, the dopamine is worn off boring, Yeah, yeah,
- 4:55Speaker 1: and I think I was in the eight hundred meters
- 4:57Speaker 1: and I rounded the corner or maybe the four hundred meters.
- 5:00Speaker 1: I was doing the circle and it was only one lap. Yeah, anyway,
- 5:03Speaker 1: I'm coming around the final bend. My mom's there being like,
- 5:06Speaker 1: go Alex.
- 5:07Speaker 2: I walked off, yeah, and then went Alex, what are
- 5:11Speaker 2: you doing?
- 5:11Speaker 3: I said, why are we running? Like five? Why are
- 5:17Speaker 3: we running? And question what what am I running to?
- 5:21Speaker 3: What am I running from? And from that day forward
- 5:25Speaker 3: resented running. Yeah, Like I like.
- 5:27Speaker 2: Competitive sports because I'm competitive, so I would enjoy that,
- 5:31Speaker 2: but I've never been a runner, never been a track star.
- 5:34Speaker 3: Anyway, this year I'm obsessed and I ran my first
- 5:38Speaker 3: four kilometers two days ago, so proud, and do you
- 5:41Speaker 3: don't know how I did it? I've already told you.
- 5:43Speaker 3: I'll tell you.
- 5:44Speaker 1: Chicks released Me by Agnes came out as my final song,
- 5:48Speaker 1: and I was running next to this like really fit
- 5:50Speaker 1: like footy play XP on the treadmill and I said,
- 5:54Speaker 1: it's fucking.
- 5:54Speaker 3: On and he won.
- 5:57Speaker 1: But like it just having this hob be whatever it is,
- 6:01Speaker 1: whatever it looks like for you, because you know, we've
- 6:03Speaker 1: tried basically everything under the sun, and it is about
- 6:05Speaker 1: finding the thing that sticks and that you enjoy. But
- 6:08Speaker 1: it's not the actual I don't know, it's how you
- 6:12Speaker 1: feel after it.
- 6:13Speaker 2: It's how the hobby makes you feel after it. And
- 6:16Speaker 2: I feel like finding that thing that makes you.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Like makes your body feel like a vessel rather than
- 6:22Speaker 1: something to be looked at, is always going to fuel
- 6:25Speaker 1: you in all areas of your life. Yeah, well, because
- 6:28Speaker 1: the alternative is so not motivating, or at least it's
- 6:32Speaker 1: not motivating in like a healthy and sustainable way. If
- 6:35Speaker 1: you want to go to pilates and that's the movement
- 6:39Speaker 1: that you get that feeling afterwards that you get that
- 6:41Speaker 1: dopamine hit, that's great.
- 6:42Speaker 2: If it's a hot girl walk, fabulous. If it's a
- 6:44Speaker 2: dance class, if it's a YouTube.
- 6:48Speaker 3: High school musical dance class routine.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:51Speaker 3: The one direction one is have we done one of
- 6:54Speaker 3: those together? We did? Think we're locked down, I think,
- 6:56Speaker 3: but not together, like not together in the same room,
- 6:59Speaker 3: but you definitely them in lockdown. We should do one together. Yeah.
- 7:02Speaker 1: They're really At first, you feel really stupid, they're hard.
- 7:06Speaker 3: You feel really silly.
- 7:08Speaker 1: When you're doing these, like dance workouts on YouTube by.
- 7:10Speaker 3: The end of it, it's so much fine. They're the best,
- 7:14Speaker 3: and they're a real workout. They're challenging. Yeah, what's your
- 7:17Speaker 3: hobby that you do.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Mine would be going to the gym, and I like
- 7:21Speaker 2: it because it's an excuse not to touch my phone
- 7:25Speaker 2: and look at my phone Asterix.
- 7:27Speaker 3: Currently, I'm doing a program on the Kick.
- 7:30Speaker 2: App, which I love, So my phone's present and I
- 7:33Speaker 2: am looking at a screen to follow the instructions, but
- 7:36Speaker 2: you know, I'm not getting distracted. I'm listening to music
- 7:39Speaker 2: and it's a really good opportunity to switch off. And
- 7:42Speaker 2: I really like going late at night because I.
- 7:44Speaker 3: Feel like it helps me switch off before I go
- 7:46Speaker 3: to bed.
- 7:47Speaker 1: That's what I've always been a morning person, and I've
- 7:49Speaker 1: definitely transitioned to an EVA though.
- 7:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Yeah, so it's like looking at it as that for me,
- 7:56Speaker 2: like it's a good way to put a full stop
- 7:58Speaker 2: on the day, close the laptop, finish work, and go
- 8:02Speaker 2: do that. I don't have to talk to anybody, I
- 8:04Speaker 2: don't have to think about anything.
- 8:05Speaker 3: I can just do that, listen to some tunes.
- 8:08Speaker 2: And I do really like using the Kick app or
- 8:10Speaker 2: some sort of like workout.
- 8:12Speaker 3: Program so that somebody can basically tell me what to do.
- 8:14Speaker 1: Yeah, do you feel your mood change, like when you're
- 8:16Speaker 1: on the way home from the.
- 8:18Speaker 3: One thousand percent?
- 8:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm always like walking out like thinking I'm in
- 8:22Speaker 2: a film clear, Yes, the lip syncing for my life, yeah, legit.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Like I don't ever think, oh, yeah, I'm excited to
- 8:30Speaker 1: go to the gym, I want to go to the gym.
- 8:31Speaker 1: I think I know what I'm going to feel like
- 8:35Speaker 1: when I have dinner and I sit down to watch TV.
- 8:37Speaker 2: If I do go reis in my done. I feel
- 8:39Speaker 2: like a little stale piece of bread. Yeah.
- 8:41Speaker 3: It always makes me so ready for bed too.
- 8:43Speaker 2: Yeah, And I'm like, oh, I've never really been these girlies,
- 8:46Speaker 2: but look at us.
- 8:49Speaker 3: Your next hobby that you need is one to let
- 8:53Speaker 3: you be creative. I think this is my favorite one,
- 8:57Speaker 3: or it's up there. It's up there.
- 9:00Speaker 2: And I just think there's so much pressure to have
- 9:03Speaker 2: like results as an adult, to have like your income
- 9:07Speaker 2: or buy a house or get married and have kids
- 9:10Speaker 2: by a certain age of these like made up rules
- 9:13Speaker 2: that society gave us that we measure ourselves against.
- 9:15Speaker 3: It's like we have okayrs for life.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Right, But for me, this hobby, the word creative could
- 9:23Speaker 1: be swapped out for the word play. I agree, And
- 9:27Speaker 1: I just think we could play a lot more. And
- 9:32Speaker 1: I've recently been speaking with someone and the amount of
- 9:37Speaker 1: times the word play comes up that I.
- 9:41Speaker 3: Just want to play. I just want to have fun.
- 9:44Speaker 3: I just want to play. And I think we don't
- 9:50Speaker 3: make enough time for this.
- 9:51Speaker 1: You don't make enough time to play and have fun
- 9:54Speaker 1: and giggle and be silly and be creative because we're
- 9:57Speaker 1: too focused on these stupid fucking OKRs that someone set
- 10:01Speaker 1: who we are. Also, that's someone like we're also setting
- 10:04Speaker 1: these okayrs in our minds and then failing because we
- 10:07Speaker 1: don't want to do them, but then we're upset that
- 10:09Speaker 1: we didn't do them.
- 10:10Speaker 3: Yeah, And the reason why this.
- 10:13Speaker 1: Needs to be a hobby is because play can also
- 10:16Speaker 1: improve our memory and stimulates the growth of the cerebral cortex.
- 10:20Speaker 1: To get all science y on you, tiggis and researchers
- 10:24Speaker 1: categorize playful adults into four types.
- 10:28Speaker 2: I love this shit, How do we play? So there's
- 10:31Speaker 2: four types of adults that play.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Those who outwardly enjoy fooling around with friends, colleagues, relatives,
- 10:37Speaker 1: and acquaintances.
- 10:38Speaker 3: Falling around eh, yeah, she's playing right now.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Those who are generally lighthearted and not preoccupied by the
- 10:47Speaker 2: future consequences of their.
- 10:48Speaker 3: Behavior must be nice.
- 10:51Speaker 1: Those who play with thoughts and ideas, and those who
- 10:54Speaker 1: play with themselves.
- 10:55Speaker 3: I'm kidding.
- 11:00Speaker 2: I thought you were going to say something else, but
- 11:03Speaker 2: there was a full start.
- 11:08Speaker 3: Those who are.
- 11:09Speaker 2: Whimsical exhibit interest in strange and unusual things, and are
- 11:13Speaker 2: amused by small, everyday observations.
- 11:16Speaker 3: Hello, that's cute.
- 11:18Speaker 2: In the fourth category, I reckon, I reckon or like
- 11:23Speaker 2: those who play.
- 11:24Speaker 3: With thoughts and ideas, but we also.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Love giggling and full as friends, I have accept the
- 11:29Speaker 1: one one that doesn't care about the future, but among
- 11:34Speaker 1: it like its many benefits, adult play can boost your creativity,
- 11:38Speaker 1: sharpen your sense of humor, and help you cope better
- 11:41Speaker 1: with stress. So if you can't think of something that's
- 11:46Speaker 1: that hobby right now, I really want you.
- 11:49Speaker 3: To prioritize that this week.
- 11:50Speaker 1: If you can't think of something where you've played this week,
- 11:55Speaker 1: and it might not necessarily be a consistent hobby that
- 11:59Speaker 1: you do every week, it is good.
- 12:00Speaker 3: If you can find something like that.
- 12:02Speaker 1: Our friend Jem, she goes to pottery every Tuesday.
- 12:05Speaker 3: Yeah, and maybe.
- 12:06Speaker 2: It's reading your book and then talking about it, like
- 12:09Speaker 2: starting a book club with your friends and or just
- 12:12Speaker 2: one friend and talking about that book together and like
- 12:14Speaker 2: giggling and kicking your feet about his quivering member.
- 12:17Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, even like filling out your good reads.
- 12:19Speaker 2: Yeah, and like having a little creative writing exercise.
- 12:23Speaker 3: About the book that you've read. Like it's just it's
- 12:25Speaker 3: fun to play. It is fun to play to play.
- 12:29Speaker 3: I love that.
- 12:30Speaker 2: I think an example of that for me would be
- 12:33Speaker 2: live music for sure. Yes, Like that is definitely one
- 12:37Speaker 2: of my favorite and most consistent hobbies throughout my life.
- 12:41Speaker 2: And I think that is one time when that is
- 12:44Speaker 2: a time when I do feel that real childlike joy
- 12:48Speaker 2: and like reckless abandon and it's just so fun and
- 12:51Speaker 2: you feel so like alive.
- 12:54Speaker 3: So I love doing that.
- 12:55Speaker 2: But another thing that I would be keen to get
- 12:57Speaker 2: into maybe in the new.
- 12:59Speaker 3: Year, is like scrap booking. I like scrapbooking and yeah,
- 13:04Speaker 3: that's cute. You do it like junk journaling. Have you
- 13:06Speaker 3: seen that trend? Were you just right? It's like you just.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Stick in like anything, and you can do it for
- 13:12Speaker 2: like the months, like it doesn't have to be They
- 13:14Speaker 2: always end up looking aesthetic, but it's not so much
- 13:17Speaker 2: like scrap booking as it was traditionally thought irattles and stuff.
- 13:24Speaker 3: Into it. So hit me with our next hobby. So
- 13:29Speaker 3: the third hobby that you need is one to manage
- 13:32Speaker 3: your money. WHOA, Yeah, exciting. You might think this sounds boring,
- 13:36Speaker 3: but it's not.
- 13:38Speaker 2: I mean, a hobby that makes you money seems like
- 13:41Speaker 2: a win win situation, and I think it can be,
- 13:44Speaker 2: especially in the current climate. As we said, you know,
- 13:47Speaker 2: we're going through a cozy lives. Everybody is looking for
- 13:50Speaker 2: more ways to make money, and I think that if
- 13:53Speaker 2: you can find avenues to make money that are also
- 13:56Speaker 2: based in passion and things that you enjoy, that's like,
- 14:00Speaker 2: for example, like I said, I've always had a passion
- 14:03Speaker 2: for music and live music especially, and I always loved
- 14:07Speaker 2: writing about it when I was a teenager, and I'd
- 14:09Speaker 2: write like blogs and stuff that's cool, yeah Tumbler and
- 14:13Speaker 2: MySpace bulletins, and then as I got older, eventually turned
- 14:17Speaker 2: that into like a side hustle doing music journalism and
- 14:21Speaker 2: interviewing artists or reviewing albums and gigs and stuff like that,
- 14:24Speaker 2: which was great and a great way to make some
- 14:27Speaker 2: money on the side. But for me, the money was
- 14:30Speaker 2: I guess, the cherry on top, and it was more
- 14:32Speaker 2: so getting the opportunity to listen to albums before they
- 14:36Speaker 2: were released, or going to a show.
- 14:39Speaker 3: And having my name on the door and knowing that
- 14:41Speaker 3: I was going.
- 14:42Speaker 2: To review one of my favorite artists, or getting to
- 14:44Speaker 2: speak with someone who I really admired about a piece
- 14:47Speaker 2: of work that they produced, and the money was sort
- 14:50Speaker 2: of just a nice silver lining.
- 14:53Speaker 3: So I think that that is great if.
- 14:54Speaker 2: You can make money from your hobby and you want to. However,
- 14:59Speaker 2: we've also been existing in a gig economy for the
- 15:02Speaker 2: last what ten fifteen years, and I think a lot
- 15:06Speaker 2: of us feel the pressure to turn our hobbies into
- 15:09Speaker 2: side hustles.
- 15:11Speaker 3: And I think that's the distinction.
- 15:13Speaker 2: That we want to make here, that you don't have
- 15:16Speaker 2: to make money out of your hobbies.
- 15:18Speaker 3: It's only if you want to.
- 15:20Speaker 2: And I think that if there's ever an instance where
- 15:22Speaker 2: you're feeling pressure from other people to make money from
- 15:27Speaker 2: your hobby, or you start doing it and then you
- 15:29Speaker 2: realize that you're not having fun with your hobby bringing
- 15:32Speaker 2: you joy, Yeah, and that is statistically speaking that our
- 15:36Speaker 2: studies at show once you start earning money from a hobby,
- 15:40Speaker 2: you start enjoying that hobby a little bit less or
- 15:43Speaker 2: a lot a bit less. I even found that with
- 15:47Speaker 2: internships in my early twenties and late teens.
- 15:50Speaker 3: Does you romanticize it?
- 15:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I'd be enjoying it so much more, And then
- 15:54Speaker 2: I actually started getting paid and I was like.
- 15:57Speaker 3: Now I have to be here. You know, it's not
- 16:00Speaker 3: always the case.
- 16:01Speaker 2: So if you don't want to have a hobby that
- 16:04Speaker 2: makes you money, maybe aim to have one that helps
- 16:07Speaker 2: you manage your money instead.
- 16:10Speaker 3: So this could include things like learning to invest.
- 16:13Speaker 2: We did a two part episode on how to learn
- 16:17Speaker 2: how to invest and get into investing. We can link
- 16:19Speaker 2: it in the show notes. It's a really good start
- 16:21Speaker 2: if you are a beginner and you're interested. Also setting
- 16:25Speaker 2: yourself regular money challenges like a no spend month or
- 16:28Speaker 2: maybe a goal to save a certain amount, and you
- 16:32Speaker 2: can switch these up every month, but knowing that you
- 16:35Speaker 2: have a goal on the first day of every month
- 16:37Speaker 2: to set yourself a different money challenge could be fun.
- 16:40Speaker 3: I like that.
- 16:41Speaker 1: Like those money bingo cards, Yeah, they're so fun.
- 16:44Speaker 2: Or you can have a weekly money date to manage
- 16:46Speaker 2: your finances with your partner or maybe with a friend,
- 16:50Speaker 2: you know, you could do it over coffee and brecky
- 16:52Speaker 2: or like put a little charcouterie board together, Yeah, and
- 16:54Speaker 2: like put some tunes on.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Most importantly, I think this is a hobby that, like,
- 16:58Speaker 1: future you will really thank you, thank you for absolutely.
- 17:01Speaker 1: I think all of these hobbies are things that future
- 17:04Speaker 1: you will thank you for. But this is really something
- 17:06Speaker 1: that's going to relieve stress in the future. When you
- 17:08Speaker 1: manage your money now, you're less stressed in the future.
- 17:11Speaker 1: I think all of these hobbies save you stress in
- 17:14Speaker 1: the future.
- 17:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:15Speaker 1: But some money micro hobbies that you can build into
- 17:20Speaker 1: your routine from our chicks that sent these in is
- 17:25Speaker 1: painting your own nails.
- 17:26Speaker 2: That's always a very common hobby that we get sent in.
- 17:29Speaker 2: Eating before grocery shopping.
- 17:31Speaker 3: Honestly, like that would save me hundreds of dollars. I
- 17:34Speaker 3: don't want to admit it, but it's so better, that's true.
- 17:37Speaker 2: And then canceling memberships you don't use using cash, that's
- 17:42Speaker 2: a really popular one, yeah, because it's a lot more
- 17:45Speaker 2: mindful than a bank card.
- 17:48Speaker 3: And then only going to events that you actually want
- 17:51Speaker 3: to go to. It's going to change your life that one. Yeah,
- 17:54Speaker 3: it's going to blow your fecking mand That's like my favorite.
- 17:58Speaker 2: I love that, yeah, saying that it's my favorite. Was
- 18:03Speaker 2: watching sal get like pressured into coming to a party
- 18:07Speaker 2: once by like four people, and then in front of
- 18:10Speaker 2: everyone that was going to this party that just wanted
- 18:13Speaker 2: how to come, she goes, I just don't fucking want to,
- 18:16Speaker 2: and then everyone shut up. I stop pressuring her, and
- 18:20Speaker 2: I was.
- 18:20Speaker 3: Just the math would sorry Bush comes to shove. I
- 18:24Speaker 3: have to tell you the real reason why I don't.
- 18:25Speaker 2: Want to come. I want to, and everyone's like, yep,
- 18:30Speaker 2: you can't really argue against that one.
- 18:32Speaker 3: Nah, it's a good one to have in the back pocket.
- 18:34Speaker 3: Honesty best policy. Maybe we should put that shit on
- 18:38Speaker 3: a ship. Put that ship on a show. You have
- 18:41Speaker 3: to say it that way, but it's quite grating, I
- 18:46Speaker 3: realized listening back to the episodes.
- 18:48Speaker 2: But alas, let's move on to our fourth and final
- 18:52Speaker 2: hobby that you need want to advance your knowledge.
- 18:55Speaker 1: Smutty pants, muddy girls. Yeah, I love being smart, hot girls.
- 19:00Speaker 3: Love to learn, not saying I'm sorry that came out wrong. Smart.
- 19:04Speaker 2: I love getting smart, but learning doesn't have to finish
- 19:08Speaker 2: when you wrap up UNI and high school. And I
- 19:11Speaker 2: think for a lot of people, that's where the learning
- 19:14Speaker 2: journey does sort of end. Obviously, you know we're learning
- 19:17Speaker 2: life lessons all the time and picking up new things
- 19:19Speaker 2: as you go into adulthood. But I'm talking about intentional
- 19:22Speaker 2: learning and actually putting time aside to learn something that
- 19:27Speaker 2: you want.
- 19:27Speaker 3: To learn, because I think that it is more.
- 19:30Speaker 2: Rewarding perhaps than what we did experience in school or UNI,
- 19:34Speaker 2: because you actually have some autonomy you.
- 19:36Speaker 3: Had to choose. How cool is that? Yeah?
- 19:40Speaker 2: And I actually saw an article by National Geographic. Maybe
- 19:43Speaker 2: they's the smartiest pain maybe they skewed the results because
- 19:46Speaker 2: they're like, you know how you'll do this, pick up
- 19:48Speaker 2: the mag But adults are apparently better learners because we
- 19:52Speaker 2: have better self regulation.
- 19:54Speaker 3: And we're intent when we want to learn something.
- 19:58Speaker 2: So I know the saying can't teach an old dog
- 20:01Speaker 2: new tricks, but yeah, because you're actually learning things that
- 20:04Speaker 2: you want to and not just how to play the recorder,
- 20:07Speaker 2: but if you want to learn how to do that,
- 20:09Speaker 2: you do that, you do that, get that hot cross bun.
- 20:13Speaker 2: And not only is it rewarding, I think when you
- 20:16Speaker 2: feel yourself learning new things and picking up new skills,
- 20:20Speaker 2: but it can also help maintain and improve our cognitive function,
- 20:24Speaker 2: which apparently usually begins to plateau after the age of
- 20:28Speaker 2: thirty or forty.
- 20:30Speaker 3: Yeah, hey, you going over there now. I mean, I
- 20:32Speaker 3: think the results speak for itself.
- 20:34Speaker 2: It's not looking good that it's time to pick up
- 20:38Speaker 2: a new hobby. But I think that, you know, there's
- 20:40Speaker 2: so many different hobbies that you could try to advance
- 20:43Speaker 2: your knowledge, some of which including learn a new language
- 20:47Speaker 2: on duo Lingo. Next one, pick a topic and make
- 20:50Speaker 2: it your hyper fixation. Yeah, I'm talking books, podcasts, documentaries,
- 20:55Speaker 2: do it all and just become obsessed and indulged in
- 20:59Speaker 2: a topic and try and learn everything that you can
- 21:01Speaker 2: about it.
- 21:02Speaker 3: I'm like, why not.
- 21:05Speaker 1: We need to pick something and you can pick whatever
- 21:07Speaker 1: the fuck you want.
- 21:08Speaker 2: Like that's the best part is you know how there
- 21:11Speaker 2: was those subjects in school and you're like and then
- 21:13Speaker 2: there were the ones that you're like, wh Yeah, like
- 21:16Speaker 2: do like learn about whatever you want? If that is
- 21:18Speaker 2: honestly watching makeup tutorials on YouTube, that is still learning. Yeah.
- 21:23Speaker 3: I think a lot of things we think have to
- 21:25Speaker 3: be these really.
- 21:26Speaker 2: Analytical and intelligently stereotypical things, but it.
- 21:31Speaker 3: Doesn't have to be.
- 21:32Speaker 2: It can literally be watching YouTube videos of makeup tutorials
- 21:36Speaker 2: or like true crime podcasts, like it's scary, it's not
- 21:40Speaker 2: fit yet, she's a little bit too, she's too skinned.
- 21:42Speaker 3: Yeah, she's a bit skin But like that's the thing.
- 21:45Speaker 1: I think when we look at something as an interest,
- 21:48Speaker 1: we devalue what it is.
- 21:51Speaker 3: But that's not the case.
- 21:53Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely, also going to museums and art galleries one
- 21:57Speaker 2: of my personal faves. Or learn a new skill like
- 22:00Speaker 2: you were saying, So that could be cooking, or photography, writing,
- 22:04Speaker 2: makeup and beauty hair, whatever I think piques your interest.
- 22:09Speaker 1: If you could wake up tomorrow with a new skill
- 22:11Speaker 1: or hobby and be like an expert status sadder, what
- 22:13Speaker 1: would you be?
- 22:14Speaker 3: What would you have?
- 22:15Speaker 2: Oh that's hard because I want to pick something practical.
- 22:19Speaker 3: Like imagine if I was really good at investing and
- 22:22Speaker 3: I just knew everything about it and I.
- 22:24Speaker 1: Had to wake up.
- 22:24Speaker 3: But something fine, something fine.
- 22:26Speaker 2: I'd like to know how to play an instrument, that
- 22:28Speaker 2: was fine?
- 22:29Speaker 3: Yeah, like if you instrument the croparnette.
- 22:33Speaker 2: I already know how to play the clarinet. Baby, all right,
- 22:35Speaker 2: I got years of experience.
- 22:36Speaker 3: You do you actually remember how to play the clarinet?
- 22:38Speaker 1: I think i'd be able to really if I brought
- 22:41Speaker 1: a clarinet in here in this studio, you could play it.
- 22:44Speaker 2: It would take me a couple of gos. It's pretty hard.
- 22:48Speaker 3: Unt, it's a hard instrument, yeah it is. But yes,
- 22:52Speaker 3: I've already got that one down, so that's fine. I
- 22:54Speaker 3: could pick that one up. But maybe like the electric
- 22:57Speaker 3: guitar or the drums. Yeah, the drums are hard.
- 23:00Speaker 2: Yeah, the drive would be so much fun and fuck,
- 23:04Speaker 2: you'd get a lot out like you just get so
- 23:05Speaker 2: much energy.
- 23:06Speaker 3: I love that.
- 23:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 23:08Speaker 1: Yeah, well I was going to be piano, but maybe
- 23:12Speaker 1: another language. Maybe I'd love to.
- 23:13Speaker 3: Wake up and just be that fluent in Italian.
- 23:16Speaker 1: So to wrap that before we get into advice with
- 23:19Speaker 1: the chicks. Your four hobbies that you need a want
- 23:22Speaker 1: to fuel and fuel your body, one for your creativity,
- 23:27Speaker 1: one to manage your money, and one to expand your knowledge.
- 23:33Speaker 1: Hot heart, Hey, chicks, just finished reading your book and
- 23:41Speaker 1: loved it. So many stories that resonated and life lessons
- 23:44Speaker 1: to learn. I have a question for an in between friendship.
- 23:48Speaker 1: A group of US girls met directly or indirectly through
- 23:51Speaker 1: bumble friends, and initially it was nice hanging out.
- 23:54Speaker 3: For food dates and such.
- 23:55Speaker 1: However, as time went on, I found that I'm getting
- 23:58Speaker 1: closer to just a few of the girls in the
- 24:00Speaker 1: group and drifting away from a couple. I'm hosting a
- 24:03Speaker 1: housewarming party soon, and I'm conflicted with how I should
- 24:07Speaker 1: hand out invites. I would love to just invite the
- 24:10Speaker 1: ones that I feel have formed a genuine connection with me,
- 24:13Speaker 1: but I don't want to offend the rest of the group.
- 24:15Speaker 1: I find it tricky because this isn't a classic fizzle
- 24:18Speaker 1: out friendship when there are other girls involved.
- 24:22Speaker 3: That's a really tough one.
- 24:24Speaker 2: Yeah, my initial reaction is if they're not bad people,
- 24:30Speaker 2: and they're nice and you still enjoy spending time with them,
- 24:33Speaker 2: I don't think there's any harm with throwing the invite
- 24:35Speaker 2: out there. If they don't want to come because they
- 24:39Speaker 2: also feel like the friendship is sort of not giving
- 24:43Speaker 2: you both what you need, then they probably won't show up,
- 24:46Speaker 2: and if they do, then nobody's feelings are getting hurt.
- 24:51Speaker 2: But then at the same time, I'm like, I understand,
- 24:53Speaker 2: it's a housewarming, it's an intimate affair, and.
- 24:57Speaker 3: You probably only want the people.
- 24:58Speaker 2: That you really like their But with people like this
- 25:01Speaker 2: that it's not like oh, this is a friend who
- 25:04Speaker 2: you know is toxic, or someone I've had a falling
- 25:06Speaker 2: out with, or someone who I just don't like. That
- 25:11Speaker 2: like makes it a little bit more black and white,
- 25:13Speaker 2: whereas this a.
- 25:13Speaker 3: Bit of a gray area.
- 25:16Speaker 1: My perspective on stuff like this is because I feel
- 25:18Speaker 1: like I do a lot of hosting within like our friendships.
- 25:22Speaker 1: I kind of always look at it as like a
- 25:24Speaker 1: more the merrier situation.
- 25:26Speaker 2: And I think I think you end up spending time
- 25:29Speaker 2: with the people that you want to spend time with anyway.
- 25:32Speaker 3: Like I think it takes away.
- 25:34Speaker 1: From how much you'll enjoy yourself. I also think healthy
- 25:39Speaker 1: friendships can spend quality time within those friendships, so you
- 25:43Speaker 1: don't always have to hang out as a group. You
- 25:45Speaker 1: can hang out with more intimate groups within friendship groups,
- 25:50Speaker 1: like you don't always have to do the massive thing.
- 25:53Speaker 3: And that's fine, but I just for this kind of.
- 25:55Speaker 1: Thing, I always go with the more the merrier because,
- 26:00Speaker 1: as Sau said, if they're not toxic friends, if they're
- 26:02Speaker 1: not going to take away from how much you enjoy
- 26:04Speaker 1: the evening and then not like a drama or like
- 26:07Speaker 1: a bit of a stain on the night, I think
- 26:10Speaker 1: it's better to extend the invitation.
- 26:12Speaker 3: They might come, they might not. And that's the thing
- 26:16Speaker 3: because in saying that you don't have to.
- 26:19Speaker 2: If you just want to invite your four friends, just
- 26:21Speaker 2: do that. There is absolutely we're not saying no, you
- 26:24Speaker 2: have to. That's personally just what we do in that situation.
- 26:28Speaker 2: But I also think if.
- 26:30Speaker 1: You want to have an intimate night with your closer
- 26:33Speaker 1: friends that is so fun, you are within every single
- 26:36Speaker 1: right to do that. I would probably just not post
- 26:39Speaker 1: about it because that you do run the risk of
- 26:42Speaker 1: people's feelings being hurt that they weren't invited.
- 26:46Speaker 3: If you do want to, you also.
- 26:48Speaker 1: Need to understand that that may set a standard for
- 26:52Speaker 1: that to also be you in the future. They might
- 26:55Speaker 1: hang out and you might not be invited. And if
- 26:58Speaker 1: that's something that you are okay with, then that is gorgeous.
- 27:01Speaker 3: That is fine.
- 27:02Speaker 1: But that might be something that then sets that standard
- 27:05Speaker 1: in the future that they hang out and you don't
- 27:07Speaker 1: get invited, and that's something that you have to be comfortable.
- 27:10Speaker 3: And okay with. Yeah, I agree.
- 27:12Speaker 1: And if that's not something that you're comfortable and okay with,
- 27:15Speaker 1: then I would just invite everyone.
- 27:17Speaker 3: It's a nice thing to do. Yeah, I'm just like
- 27:19Speaker 3: a whatever, more the merrier. That's all have fun to
- 27:22Speaker 3: as long as you byo, yeah, BYO. Don't open the
- 27:26Speaker 3: balcony door, and we're all good. Exactly.
- 27:28Speaker 2: Those are the house far Yeah, those are the house
- 27:30Speaker 2: party rules. And clean clean a cup before you leave.
- 27:34Speaker 3: I like that.
- 27:37Speaker 1: That's so that's a cleaner cup, and clean a plate
- 27:39Speaker 1: and then get out.
- 27:42Speaker 2: And nothing good happens after two am. Yeah, remember that,
- 27:45Speaker 2: that's the most important one. But have you have a
- 27:47Speaker 2: fab house warming? And thank you so much for your
- 27:49Speaker 2: kind words on the book. Yeah, so sweet, loved it.
- 27:53Speaker 3: And that is a wrap for today's episode of Two
- 27:55Speaker 3: Broke Chick Jokes. Chicks, thanks for having us in ear holes.
- 27:57Speaker 3: We would love to be here. I was going to

- 28:14Speaker 3: I love that.
- 28:15Speaker 1: I will have absolutely no self control and I'll listen
- 28:18Speaker 1: to them in the moment, but then we can play
- 28:20Speaker 1: them on the podcast.
- 28:21Speaker 3: That's so fun. Yeah, exactly. Then we can hear the emotion.
- 28:25Speaker 2: Yeah, behind the story the pas, but the mushrooms, the muscles.
- 28:32Speaker 3: Anyway, Love you chicks. Thank you the m ik Maide

- 28:39Speaker 1: our favorite guests.
