- 0:03Speaker 1: Wake up
- 0:05Speaker 1: Scoop next.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Kicking off your day in the best way. It's Sonia
- 0:10Speaker 1: and Joakim on the shock circuit. Good morning. This marks
- 0:12Speaker 1: the end of a short work and school week just
- 0:15Speaker 1: for you. Hope you're having a good one so far.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Some special guest is joining me later on during the show.
- 0:20Speaker 1: You will find him very familiar. I'll fill you in
- 0:22Speaker 1: more later on. Jenny is about to kick us off
- 0:25Speaker 1: this hour. Good morning. Singapore's number one hit music station.
- 0:31Speaker 1: But um here's hoping that if you're up and awake already,
- 0:34Speaker 1: that everything's going well for you so far, including your
- 0:36Speaker 1: PSLE oral examinations. I, I know I've seen some of
- 0:40Speaker 1: those um IGS where people are saying like the paper's crazy,
- 0:45Speaker 1: it's very difficult and all that, so giving you all
- 0:47Speaker 1: the love and the support that you need. But coming
- 0:50Speaker 1: up later on during the show,
- 0:52Speaker 1: I Want to say hi to Tawfiq Batisah and his wife, Sheena.
- 0:55Speaker 1: They're gonna be here because of season 2 of Meet
- 0:58Speaker 1: Me There. It's a Tokyo reality series that takes on
- 1:01Speaker 1: an intimate look at people, places and relationships that, you know,
- 1:04Speaker 1: have kind of shaped Singapore in a way. So each
- 1:07Speaker 1: episode follows pairs bonded by a shared history. So it
- 1:10Speaker 1: could be siblings, it could be spouses, friends, family collaborators
- 1:15Speaker 1: whose journeys are very intertwined with Singapore's story.
- 1:19Speaker 1: So, we want to find out more from Taofiq very
- 1:21Speaker 1: soon because this whole month, especially in August, we're still
- 1:24Speaker 1: celebrating National Day, right? And I feel like Taofiq has
- 1:26Speaker 1: been such a big name in our local scene and
- 1:31Speaker 1: He's been a very important part in a lot of
- 1:32Speaker 1: National Day parades as well. So I can't wait to
- 1:34Speaker 1: chat chat with him and catch up with him and Sheena,
- 1:36Speaker 1: his wife, very, very soon, later on just after 9 a.m.
- 1:41Speaker 1: So please stay tuned. And time for some food-related news here.
- 1:44Speaker 1: Very unfortunate one, especially if you're familiar with the areas
- 1:46Speaker 1: of Bugis and Kovan. Perhaps you live around there, or
- 1:49Speaker 1: you go to school or work around the area. This
- 1:52Speaker 1: gelato shop has been there for 21 years, and they
- 1:55Speaker 1: are homegrown, by the way, Singaporean brand is called Tom's Palate.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Unfortunately, they've decided that they might have to shut down.
- 2:05Speaker 1: They are looking for a successor, but um saying hi
- 2:08Speaker 1: to the co-owner here, Faith Yap, who has done a
- 2:10Speaker 1: few interviews already, like for 8 Days Eat as well.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Um, the recipes still sit in her laptop apparently. The
- 2:16Speaker 1: equipment have been listed on Carousel. The brand is just
- 2:20Speaker 1: seared into her memory, but, um, the impending shutdown is
- 2:24Speaker 1: very scary because of the increasing cost of rent and
- 2:26Speaker 1: manpower challenges. It may really shut down if they cannot
- 2:30Speaker 1: find a buyer or, you know, a successor. So it
- 2:33Speaker 1: was very sad because it's a very well-loved brand and
- 2:36Speaker 1: they just announced it like 2 days ago or, or yeah,
- 2:39Speaker 1: a day or two ago that it plans to shutter
- 2:41Speaker 1: its outlets in Bugis and Kovan.
- 2:43Speaker 1: By, uh, by the time October comes, after 21 long
- 2:47Speaker 1: years in the business, I mean, that's like someone's entire life,
- 2:49Speaker 1: you know, and I think a lot of students who
- 2:51Speaker 1: live around Bugis Day will be familiar with Thomas Pallard
- 2:53Speaker 1: for sure. Um, I think she mentioned that there are
- 2:56Speaker 1: interested parties that approach them, so they're in the process
- 2:59Speaker 1: of filtering it and seeing if it fits their needs
- 3:02Speaker 1: and if it works for them. So, um, it's very sad,
- 3:06Speaker 1: sad to hear that a lot of your beloved homegrown
- 3:09Speaker 1: brands are considering closing things down.
- 3:13Speaker 1: I mean, not just them, but many others that we've read,
- 3:16Speaker 1: you know, in the news over the past few months
- 3:18Speaker 1: or even in the past year or so. So if
- 3:20Speaker 1: you want to just go enjoy it before they make
- 3:22Speaker 1: a decision and, you know, we won't rule out the
- 3:25Speaker 1: possibility that they're going to stay, but in the meantime,
- 3:27Speaker 1: if you really love them, please show them some support.
- 3:29Speaker 1: It's at 51 Middle Road and also Block 212 Hougang
- 3:33Speaker 1: Street 21, and both outlets for now are expected to
- 3:37Speaker 1: close around October 18th unless we hear some good news.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Fingers crossed for them, please. Hi. Hi, good morning. What's
- 3:44Speaker 1: your name? Cheng Cheng Cheng Jun and Cheng Kai, you
- 3:48Speaker 1: sound so sleepy. Are you OK?
- 3:53Speaker 1: Uh, can I speak to your dad or your mom? Hi,
- 3:57Speaker 1: good morning. What is it a sleepy start to the
- 3:59Speaker 1: day for everyone? Yes, it is. I know, it always
- 4:04Speaker 1: does get better, right? OK, so are they enjoying their
- 4:07Speaker 1: school right now?
- 4:08Speaker 1: Yeah. OK, good. That's the energy I like to hear.
- 4:11Speaker 1: But I think you need a bit more energy this morning.
- 4:13Speaker 1: So what song can I get you?
- 4:14Speaker 2: Like maybe something like Believer by Imagine Dragons. Believer.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Now if Joakim was here, he would laugh and say
- 4:21Speaker 1: that this reminds him of me.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Like if um I reconnect with a classmate in the future,
- 4:28Speaker 1: this might happen to me. I think even our listeners now,
- 4:31Speaker 1: sometimes when I receive DMs from you, our listeners, you
- 4:35Speaker 1: like also joke and say like, hey, don't get scammed, ah,
- 4:37Speaker 1: that kind of thing, because knowing me, sometimes I may
- 4:40Speaker 1: be soft-hearted for stuff and I don't know, I could
- 4:42Speaker 1: end up being a target for scammers. So this didn't
- 4:45Speaker 1: happen here in Singapore, but, you know, it's a good
- 4:48Speaker 1: reminder for us in general. It could have happened to
- 4:50Speaker 1: any of us here in Singapore too.
- 4:52Speaker 1: So this Taiwanese lady, she reconnected with a long lost classmates.
- 4:58Speaker 1: And I'm sure, you know, at some point in life,
- 5:00Speaker 1: if you get to catch up or you get to
- 5:02Speaker 1: know like, hey, like this classmate of mine I used
- 5:04Speaker 1: to be kind of close to or close with, reached
- 5:07Speaker 1: out and like, hey, we're going to catch up for lunch.
- 5:09Speaker 1: You would kind of feel excited, right, to reconnect with
- 5:12Speaker 1: someone that you might have had a big history with,
- 5:15Speaker 1: you know, growing up, um, some shared trauma back in
- 5:17Speaker 1: school or whatever it is that you've experienced. So, this,
- 5:21Speaker 1: this lady um started chatting with her so-called long lost
- 5:24Speaker 1: classmate from like 20 years ago, OK. And what began
- 5:28Speaker 1: as just a casual like, hey, hey, you know, kind
- 5:31Speaker 1: of thing, then continued into innocuous messages.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Um, that pivoted to the friend presenting her with a
- 5:39Speaker 1: rare investment opportunity in a hot pot restaurant. Hey man,
- 5:44Speaker 1: I mean, hotpot seems like good money if you ask me.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Look at Haiilao, right? And even other hotpot places. So
- 5:50Speaker 1: this so-called friend that claimed to have had special channels
- 5:53Speaker 1: to reduce the procurement costs and, you know, invited her
- 5:56Speaker 1: to invest in this restaurant and, um, said, oh, I
- 5:59Speaker 1: guarantee you profit, no losses. So this poor lady, she
- 6:03Speaker 1: didn't think too much of it. She agreed to put in.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Um, the previously agreed sum of money into the, into
- 6:10Speaker 1: this investment, and that was a total of almost 80,000
- 6:15Speaker 1: Singapore dollars, 80 $80,000 she put in, just based off
- 6:19Speaker 1: the trust that this is my long lost classmate. Unfortunately, um,
- 6:24Speaker 1: follow-up messages were left unread, unanswered. Um, the bank actually
- 6:28Speaker 1: was quite alert. The bank staff noticed a large amount
- 6:30Speaker 1: that she was trying to transfer.
- 6:32Speaker 1: And, um, you know, they also tracked and realized, hey,
- 6:36Speaker 1: she has no clarity on what exactly is this investment
- 6:39Speaker 1: or what are the details. So, the bank advised her,
- 6:43Speaker 1: I think you should, you know, take a look into
- 6:45Speaker 1: this and call this person, and that's when everyone got ghosted. So,
- 6:49Speaker 1: I'm not quite sure what else they can do for now,
- 6:51Speaker 1: except to get the police involved.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Um, I think they're still investigating right now and they're
- 6:56Speaker 1: trying to figure out what to do, but for now,
- 6:58Speaker 1: what they can confirm is that this was executed by
- 7:02Speaker 1: a scam ring. So, it's a syndicate, dum dum dum.
- 7:07Speaker 1: Never trust that when all of a sudden someone who
- 7:10Speaker 1: claims to be a long lost classmate pops out of
- 7:12Speaker 1: nowhere on social media.
- 7:14Speaker 1: And if you have any fiber of doubt in your gut,
- 7:17Speaker 1: go with that, OK? You never know, it could save
- 7:20Speaker 1: you $80,000 just like this lady over here. Like I
- 7:22Speaker 1: mentioned earlier, a bit of a new fear unlocked moment.
- 7:26Speaker 1: So I'm not sure what your experience is with like
- 7:28Speaker 1: raw food and raw oysters especially. Now, I'm a fan
- 7:32Speaker 1: of sashimi and, you know, other types of raw dishes,
- 7:35Speaker 1: but I had one bad experience with oysters at a
- 7:39Speaker 1: buffet here in Singapore, OK?
- 7:41Speaker 1: I had like the worst food poisoning of my life.
- 7:44Speaker 1: I think it was like one week long that um
- 7:48Speaker 1: I was actually on MC for one week. I remember this,
- 7:51Speaker 1: I still remember this. And despite that, when I came back,
- 7:53Speaker 1: I was still not super well, you know. So that's
- 7:56Speaker 1: how bad it was. So I can only imagine more
- 7:59Speaker 1: serious cases of food poisoning or, you know, other, other
- 8:02Speaker 1: types of strains that you're getting from whatever it is
- 8:06Speaker 1: you're consuming out there, right?
- 8:08Speaker 1: So this man in the US after consuming raw oysters,
- 8:13Speaker 1: he got a heart attack, he had brain damage and
- 8:16Speaker 1: he went into a coma, and now I'm scared.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Look, I mean, I'm sure most places are safe, especially
- 8:23Speaker 1: here in Singapore, and they, they, they definitely know where and,
- 8:28Speaker 1: and how to get super fresh oysters, right? But this,
- 8:31Speaker 1: I don't know, this is like a freak incident or something,
- 8:34Speaker 1: but um he contracted two strains of, uh, of, well,
- 8:39Speaker 1: food poisoning in a way. It's a bacteria, I would say, right,
- 8:43Speaker 1: that causes food poisoning and more.
- 8:45Speaker 1: So, he consumed it at this restaurant, that was quite
- 8:48Speaker 1: a well-known restaurant, to be honest. Now, there's going to
- 8:50Speaker 1: be a big lawsuit on behalf of um him and
- 8:53Speaker 1: his family against the restaurant because the restaurant denied all
- 8:57Speaker 1: involvement in it. They said, no, it's not our oysters,
- 9:00Speaker 1: but clearly, I think these strains of bacteria are found
- 9:03Speaker 1: in contaminated oysters. So, that's the reason why they're gonna
- 9:06Speaker 1: fight it all the way, I'm pretty sure.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Um, they're determined to get a reasonable degree of mental
- 9:11Speaker 1: certainty on his illness, uh, was caused by consuming contaminated oysters,
- 9:15Speaker 1: and I think they're quite confident. Um, in response, I
- 9:18Speaker 1: think this restaurant group acknowledged the impact of how, you know,
- 9:21Speaker 1: tragic it is and how severe it is, but they
- 9:25Speaker 1: still stand by saying that they take food safety extremely seriously. So,
- 9:29Speaker 1: we'll see where this goes. I'm very invested and I
- 9:31Speaker 1: hope that this man and his family gets compensated because it's,
- 9:35Speaker 1: it's life-altering, you know.
- 9:37Speaker 1: And Madonna actually just released a new collab with Kylie Minogue,
- 9:40Speaker 1: if I'm not wrong. So, two queens that collaborated and
- 9:45Speaker 1: um it went actually pretty viral. So lots of people
- 9:47Speaker 1: are trying to stream it on like Spotify and all that.
- 9:49Speaker 1: It's been pretty crazy for them, I'm sure. I mean,
- 9:52Speaker 1: if you think about it, Madonna's literally like she could
- 9:55Speaker 1: be our moms, right? She could be our mom, I mean,
- 9:58Speaker 1: and she's still iconic and she's still doing her thing, which, yeah,
- 10:01Speaker 1: you go, girl. She, she's doing what she wants to do.
- 10:04Speaker 1: Coming up right after 8, I want to open up
- 10:06Speaker 1: the phone lines, 669-11987. So please stand by for that.
- 10:10Speaker 1: It's your final, final chance to walk away with a
- 10:13Speaker 1: wonderful treat. Thanks to Peppermint over at Park Royal Collection
- 10:16Speaker 1: at Marina Bay.
- 10:17Speaker 1: And I've never personally been to Peppermint, but I've heard
- 10:20Speaker 1: only good things about them. So you want to stick
- 10:23Speaker 1: around because every, every day between 8 to 9, when
- 10:26Speaker 1: I open up the phone lines, it's always based off
- 10:28Speaker 1: real-life stuff, you know, and I want to hear your stories, your,
- 10:32Speaker 1: your phone calls, your messages. They always make my day
- 10:35Speaker 1: because you think that I'm here to give you energy
- 10:37Speaker 1: and
- 10:38Speaker 1: To keep you awake and all that, right? But you're
- 10:40Speaker 1: actually doing the same for me. You know, when you
- 10:42Speaker 1: contribute and you give me your stories, I, I truly
- 10:45Speaker 1: appreciate that and the show, like I always say, is
- 10:46Speaker 1: never the same without you. So please stick about. So
- 10:49Speaker 1: just about um a couple of weeks back, caught up
- 10:52Speaker 1: with some classmates that I haven't seen in like a
- 10:55Speaker 1: long time. OK, we've known each other since um since
- 10:58Speaker 1: We were teenagers, but at the same time, you know,
- 11:01Speaker 1: we would just catch up every once in a while.
- 11:03Speaker 1: It's not often, I would say it's not often at all,
- 11:07Speaker 1: but when we do, sometimes, you know, you feel like
- 11:09Speaker 1: you can talk about certain things and you catch up
- 11:11Speaker 1: like no time was lost. But on the other hand,
- 11:13Speaker 1: there's a lot of reminiscing that's done as well when
- 11:15Speaker 1: you meet up with friends that you've known for way
- 11:18Speaker 1: too long ago, and that you haven't seen in a bit, right?
- 11:21Speaker 1: So a lot of it, you kind of look back,
- 11:23Speaker 1: you like reminisce, you talk about school times or whatever
- 11:25Speaker 1: it is you experienced together.
- 11:27Speaker 1: But I feel like at this point in time of
- 11:29Speaker 1: my life, um, when I meet up with certain groups
- 11:32Speaker 1: of friends, right? I feel like we could not be
- 11:35Speaker 1: more different, you know, like all of us are in
- 11:37Speaker 1: different phases of life. Uh, one of my classmates, she
- 11:41Speaker 1: just recently became a mom.
- 11:43Speaker 1: And then, you know, I mean, I'm recently married, so not,
- 11:46Speaker 1: not becoming a mom anytime soon, just enjoying life. Another girl, um,
- 11:51Speaker 1: she's going through a bit of a career transition and
- 11:54Speaker 1: it's a bit of a struggle, you know, so her,
- 11:56Speaker 1: her issues and her problems that she's facing are very
- 11:58Speaker 1: different from, um, for example, the person who just had
- 12:01Speaker 1: a kid recently, right? Or maybe the person who just
- 12:04Speaker 1: broke up. So,
- 12:05Speaker 1: When I analyzed the whole group, I was like, wow,
- 12:07Speaker 1: there's not even a pair of us that are sharing
- 12:11Speaker 1: a similar life right now. We're all in different phases
- 12:14Speaker 1: of life. Give me a call, 669-11987. I'm not sure
- 12:18Speaker 1: if you can relate to this with your group of friends,
- 12:21Speaker 1: but if you can, please tell me and text me
- 12:23Speaker 1: as well if that's easier for you, 90050987. But of course,
- 12:27Speaker 1: if I can hear your voice, that'd be fantastic, you know, 669-11987.
- 12:33Speaker 1: And the question is,
- 12:34Speaker 1: Have you or do you have a group of friends
- 12:37Speaker 1: where all of you are almost in different phases of
- 12:40Speaker 1: life right now? Different priorities, different goals?
- 12:46Speaker 1: You know, you just deal with different issues. Yeah, what
- 12:49Speaker 1: is it about that group, uh friend group? And I
- 12:51Speaker 1: was just sharing about how a few weeks ago I
- 12:53Speaker 1: met up with some old friends and I realized that, wow,
- 12:56Speaker 1: we are truly in different stages of life. Like, for example, OK, um,
- 13:00Speaker 1: I just got married, right? My other friend um is
- 13:03Speaker 1: still single, but in a situationship,
- 13:06Speaker 1: Another one of our friends just broke up not too
- 13:09Speaker 1: long ago, and another one just became a mom. So everyone,
- 13:13Speaker 1: for the first time ever in, I think our entire lives,
- 13:16Speaker 1: are not in the same phase of life. Like there's
- 13:18Speaker 1: not even one pair of us in the group that's
- 13:21Speaker 1: in the same phase of life. How crazy is that, right? So,
- 13:24Speaker 1: I always think, hey, yeah, we always go through these
- 13:26Speaker 1: seasons where
- 13:27Speaker 1: I wonder, will we catch ourselves being in the same
- 13:31Speaker 1: phase at any one point? I mean, if you're tuning
- 13:34Speaker 1: in now, it'll be kind of cool if you and
- 13:36Speaker 1: your best friends like kind of um settled down around
- 13:38Speaker 1: the same time, right? You know, I know some of
- 13:40Speaker 1: my other friend groups are like, yeah, they, they hope
- 13:42Speaker 1: that they can find a community of like young moms
- 13:45Speaker 1: or something or maybe new newlyweds, then they start hanging
- 13:48Speaker 1: out with more of the newlyweds, you know, it's just,
- 13:51Speaker 1: such is life, right, when you think about it. So,
- 13:53Speaker 1: my question to you today was actually,
- 13:56Speaker 1: Do you find yourself in different differing phases of life
- 13:59Speaker 1: in your friend group right now? Saying hi over here
- 14:02Speaker 1: to Kay. You said, hi, Sonia, for my case, I
- 14:05Speaker 1: recently met up with an old classmate I haven't seen
- 14:08Speaker 1: in a long time. Um, our lifestyles are now completely different.
- 14:13Speaker 1: She seems to be revisiting or perhaps making up for
- 14:16Speaker 1: experiences she might have missed when we were young.
- 14:19Speaker 1: She's now doing many of the things we used to
- 14:21Speaker 1: do in our early twenties, dyeing your hair, staying out late,
- 14:25Speaker 1: being very active on social media. She isn't married and
- 14:28Speaker 1: doesn't have kids, so she has a very different set
- 14:30Speaker 1: of responsibilities and much more freedom over how she spends
- 14:33Speaker 1: her time. She also has been relying on someone for
- 14:37Speaker 1: some financial support. Because of this, she appears to have
- 14:40Speaker 1: fewer responsibilities and much more freedom over how she spends
- 14:43Speaker 1: her time.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Meeting her again made me realize just how differently our
- 14:47Speaker 1: lives have turned out. Hey, you know, there's never a
- 14:51Speaker 1: good and bad. Uh, there's never um like a better
- 14:53Speaker 1: or worse way of living your life. That's what I'm
- 14:55Speaker 1: trying to say, right?
- 14:56Speaker 1: Because you might find fulfillment in your own way despite
- 14:59Speaker 1: your struggles, and even though she may come across like
- 15:03Speaker 1: being in the, in the time of her life, experiencing
- 15:05Speaker 1: all these like things that you used to do in
- 15:06Speaker 1: your twenties, you don't know what truly may be bothering
- 15:09Speaker 1: her at the back of her mind or what kind
- 15:11Speaker 1: of other responsibilities or problems that she might be dealing with,
- 15:14Speaker 1: and I think that's what I noticed with some of
- 15:17Speaker 1: my friends too.
- 15:18Speaker 1: Um, especially those that you don't catch up with that often,
- 15:23Speaker 1: how much of it that we're presenting is like 100%, um,
- 15:27Speaker 1: like honest to the truth right now, right? Sometimes it
- 15:30Speaker 1: may take a while to break the ice to be
- 15:32Speaker 1: a bit more vulnerable, to tell you what has been
- 15:34Speaker 1: bothering me in the past few years or like what
- 15:36Speaker 1: my struggles are. It's hard. Sometimes too much time has
- 15:39Speaker 1: been lost, I feel. Anyway, thank you so much for
- 15:42Speaker 1: sharing that with me. Um, OK, one more message here
- 15:44Speaker 1: before we head to phone lines in a short while.
- 15:47Speaker 1: Um, and you didn't quite, I think your name is Amir.
- 15:50Speaker 1: You said, hi, morning, Sonia. I have a group of
- 15:52Speaker 1: 8 poly friends. We all studied accountancy, but we're all
- 15:56Speaker 1: doing different things now, HR, finance, social service, and even
- 16:00Speaker 1: there's an even an army regulator.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Only 2 or 3 are still doing accountancy. Life stage-wise, um,
- 16:08Speaker 1: there are a few recently married, a mother of 1,
- 16:12Speaker 1: some evergreen and thinking about buying their own place solo,
- 16:15Speaker 1: single in a few years' time. We usually only catch
- 16:18Speaker 1: up when someone has a wedding or birthday parties because
- 16:21Speaker 1: we're all so busy. It's so true. It's so true.
- 16:25Speaker 1: In fact, when I saw some of my friends at
- 16:27Speaker 1: my wedding recently,
- 16:29Speaker 1: Um, which was a rare occasion because we haven't been
- 16:32Speaker 1: in the same country altogether in a very long time.
- 16:35Speaker 1: We looked at each other and we were like, can
- 16:37Speaker 1: the next time we meet not be someone's wedding or
- 16:40Speaker 1: like baby shower, please? Can it be like something else,
- 16:44Speaker 1: you know, just because we wanted to meet, maybe even overseas? Yeah,
- 16:48Speaker 1: we're still waiting for that group chat to, um, we're
- 16:52Speaker 1: still waiting for the holiday to exit the group chat.
- 16:54Speaker 1: That's what I'm trying to say.
- 16:55Speaker 1: When we come back, we're gonna hear from a few
- 16:57Speaker 1: callers and we still got time for you. 669-11987. Share
- 17:02Speaker 1: with me, I was just sharing about how I caught
- 17:04Speaker 1: up with some like old classmates a couple of weeks
- 17:06Speaker 1: back and I was realizing how we're all in different
- 17:10Speaker 1: phases of life right now. And that's so funny because
- 17:12Speaker 1: when you start off in school, like you're in the
- 17:14Speaker 1: same phase of life, right?
- 17:16Speaker 1: And then gradually you start to change. I guess people
- 17:20Speaker 1: get their first job or some people take a gap year,
- 17:22Speaker 1: they start traveling, and then I think after school is
- 17:25Speaker 1: when you start to, I don't know, discover yourself and
- 17:28Speaker 1: realize like, do I wanna like settle down so fast
- 17:31Speaker 1: or do I want to like work for the next
- 17:32Speaker 1: 10 years or what was the plan, right? So, that
- 17:35Speaker 1: was my question today. Do you find yourself in a
- 17:37Speaker 1: friend group that's in different phases of life right now?
- 17:42Speaker 1: I think the answer is yes. A lot of your
- 17:43Speaker 1: messages coming through this morning.
- 17:45Speaker 1: Um, and we're saying hi over here to E. You said, hey, Sonia,
- 17:49Speaker 1: good morning. In different stages of life, we face different issues.
- 17:53Speaker 1: It could start becoming things like health, end of a career,
- 17:57Speaker 1: or hearing unfortunate news. So I guess at different stages
- 18:00Speaker 1: of life, we definitely will face certain issues that we're
- 18:03Speaker 1: new to.
- 18:04Speaker 1: And not sure how to handle. You know what, I
- 18:06Speaker 1: think that's why it's still good to have like your
- 18:09Speaker 1: solid group of friends, right? Because you never know what's
- 18:11Speaker 1: going to happen in life. And I think regardless of
- 18:13Speaker 1: whether we are in the same phase or not, we
- 18:15Speaker 1: will always be there for each other, you know, like
- 18:17Speaker 1: we may not be able to 100% relate to what
- 18:19Speaker 1: you're going through in your phase of life right now,
- 18:22Speaker 1: but we'll still be there for sure.
- 18:25Speaker 1: OK, saying hi over here to Cindy. You say, good morning, Sonia.
- 18:28Speaker 1: I actually joined a social group which is open to
- 18:30Speaker 1: people of all ages. We hang out regularly. You can
- 18:34Speaker 1: actually hang out over potluck parties, KTV, meals, dinner, and
- 18:37Speaker 1: all that. The diverse ages and lifestyle actually make each
- 18:41Speaker 1: and every gathering such a joy to be at.
- 18:43Speaker 1: because I realized there's so much to learn and share
- 18:45Speaker 1: from each other. I really appreciate the emotional support provided
- 18:48Speaker 1: during some of my darkest moments by these friends. Someone
- 18:52Speaker 1: else actually also got a new job thanks to this group.
- 18:55Speaker 1: You see, I think that's pretty cool that you're doing it.
- 18:57Speaker 1: You know, building communities, right? Like I think people are
- 19:00Speaker 1: looking for things that they have in common, regardless of
- 19:03Speaker 1: age group, regardless of industry or background. So that's pretty cool.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Thank you for sharing that with me.
- 19:08Speaker 1: Um, we're going to head to the phone lines to
- 19:10Speaker 1: find out what you think about this. Hello, what do
- 19:12Speaker 1: you think?
- 19:13Speaker 2: I'm born in the 90s, early 90s. So among my
- 19:17Speaker 2: whole group of friends, I'm the first one who got
- 19:19Speaker 2: married and have a family. My boys are currently in teenage,
- 19:23Speaker 2: one teenage, one primary school, one preschool.
- 19:26Speaker 2: And I have one friend that is still single. We
- 19:30Speaker 2: are all in the same age group. I have another
- 19:32Speaker 2: friend who has a kid, uh, who is about 2
- 19:34Speaker 2: years old, 2 to 3 years old, and I have
- 19:36Speaker 2: another one who is going to give birth soon. So
- 19:39Speaker 2: truly
- 19:40Speaker 1: in, in like the varying stages of life.
- 19:44Speaker 2: Yes, yes. So it's like wow, so it's like everybody
- 19:47Speaker 2: is sharing their experience like
- 19:49Speaker 2: happening.
- 19:51Speaker 1: Do you feel that, you know, yeah, it's interesting that
- 19:55Speaker 1: you need when it comes to sharing about your life
- 19:59Speaker 1: and all that.
- 20:00Speaker 1: Do you find like as you mature and grow older,
- 20:03Speaker 1: there are less and less things to talk about?
- 20:05Speaker 2: I
- 20:05Speaker 2: think there are more things to talk about, especially when
- 20:07Speaker 2: you have kids in different phases. And when they just
- 20:11Speaker 2: started as a small family, like they have a family
- 20:14Speaker 2: of a kid who have a newborn, and they may
- 20:17Speaker 2: have lots of questions that, well, how do you deal
- 20:20Speaker 2: with like every, every 2 hours you have to wake
- 20:22Speaker 2: up to change the napkins, to feed the baby.
- 20:27Speaker 2: How do you even do that?
- 20:29Speaker 1: So then for your friends who are like the one
- 20:32Speaker 1: that's single and who's and maybe some other friends who
- 20:34Speaker 1: are still figuring it out or not at the stage
- 20:37Speaker 1: just yet, are they interested in the conversations or do
- 20:40Speaker 1: they like drift off a little bit?
- 20:42Speaker 2: Um,
- 20:42Speaker 2: they are more interested. So they have different topics at
- 20:48Speaker 2: different points of time. Yeah,
- 20:49Speaker 1: and there's nothing wrong with that, to be honest, right?
- 20:51Speaker 1: And that's what like a diverse group of friends is for.
- 20:54Speaker 1: Like we don't.
- 20:55Speaker 1: Always need to be on the same page. That makes
- 20:57Speaker 1: for some interesting and spicy conversations. Still trying to sieve
- 21:00Speaker 1: through like tons of your messages, by the way, because
- 21:02Speaker 1: I asked you this today. Do you feel like there's
- 21:05Speaker 1: a certain friend group that you have where you're in
- 21:08Speaker 1: very different stages of life? Like you're not on the
- 21:10Speaker 1: same page at all right now. Sometimes my friends and
- 21:13Speaker 1: I joke, like in certain friend groups, like, hey, we're
- 21:15Speaker 1: always in different seasons, you know, but it doesn't change
- 21:18Speaker 1: the fact that we still have so much in common
- 21:20Speaker 1: to talk about and we catch up so often.
- 21:22Speaker 1: And like none of us have moved into like the
- 21:25Speaker 1: next stage of life where it's like starting family and stuff. None,
- 21:28Speaker 1: none of us in this particular group has done that.
- 21:31Speaker 1: So we, we're still quite bonded, you know. Say hi
- 21:33Speaker 1: here to Ting. You said, morning, Sonia. Some of my
- 21:36Speaker 1: colleagues are my close friends, but some of whom are
- 21:39Speaker 1: almost twice my age. But it's great having them because
- 21:42Speaker 1: they're like my godparents, always advising me and keeping a
- 21:45Speaker 1: lookout for me. I also help them out whenever I
- 21:48Speaker 1: can in navigation of this tech-driven AI world.
- 21:51Speaker 1: accompanied one of them for medical appointments too because she
- 21:54Speaker 1: has no kin and needs help sometimes. My gosh, Ting,
- 21:58Speaker 1: you're like a fantastic colleague. Where to find a colleague
- 22:00Speaker 1: like you?
- 22:02Speaker 1: I mean, what the most Joakim updates me about his
- 22:05Speaker 1: medical appointments even though I don't ask, OK, like I,
- 22:07Speaker 1: I did not ask, but he will still send me
- 22:10Speaker 1: pictures and scans or whatever. Sometimes it's too, too much information.
- 22:13Speaker 1: OK, um, more messages coming through here to Ken. You said,
- 22:16Speaker 1: I have this group of friends whom I've known since
- 22:19Speaker 1: we were in secondary school. We know each other's deepest,
- 22:22Speaker 1: darkest secrets. Yeah, we might be in different stages of
- 22:25Speaker 1: our lives, but when we catch up, the best topic
- 22:28Speaker 1: is always the same. It's all the stupid things we've
- 22:31Speaker 1: done as teenagers. Yeah, dude, like you always tend to
- 22:35Speaker 1: look back and like laugh about it, right? Uh, always
- 22:38Speaker 1: great to reminisce once in a while.
- 22:40Speaker 1: Thank you so much for your messages. I, I don't
- 22:42Speaker 1: have enough time to read out anymore, but I appreciate
- 22:45Speaker 1: it and I'll still try to reply to you on, um,
- 22:48Speaker 1: on WhatsApp as well. So thank you for that and
- 22:51Speaker 1: when we come back, one person is walking away with
- 22:53Speaker 1: that wonderful dining experience. This is your last. Thank you
- 22:55Speaker 1: so much for your stories, your calls, your messages this morning.
- 22:59Speaker 1: Appreciate it so much, very entertaining.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Entertaining and I can totally relate to so many of
- 23:03Speaker 1: these text messages. OK, only one person though can walk
- 23:06Speaker 1: away with this wonderful dining experience and all throughout the week,
- 23:10Speaker 1: we've been giving it away. In fact, I personally feel
- 23:13Speaker 1: like I need to visit it sometime soon.
- 23:16Speaker 1: Um, this is absolutely wonderful and it's actually over at
- 23:19Speaker 1: Park Royal Collection at Marina Bay, and it's known as
- 23:22Speaker 1: Peppermint Restaurant where you can enjoy their buffet. So please
- 23:26Speaker 1: check them out on Instagram as well. Follow them up.
- 23:29Speaker 1: I think there's so many wonderful dishes and meals that
- 23:31Speaker 1: you can enjoy over there, including their seafood laksa Tower. Like,
- 23:36Speaker 1: what is that? It sounds so delicious. I need to
- 23:38Speaker 1: know right away.
- 23:39Speaker 1: Um, I believe that they have many more new, um,
- 23:42Speaker 1: promotions coming up very soon as well. So just follow
- 23:45Speaker 1: them on social media, you'll be able to find out more.
- 23:47Speaker 1: And today's prize goes to Ting. Congratulations, Ting.
- 23:51Speaker 1: I loved what you shared earlier about how your colleagues
- 23:55Speaker 1: became your very close friends and some of them are
- 23:57Speaker 1: actually twice your age, and it's great having them because
- 24:00Speaker 1: they're like your godparents, and you also help look out
- 24:03Speaker 1: for them when it comes to like helping them out
- 24:05Speaker 1: with social media or maybe like Gen Z lingo or
- 24:08Speaker 1: like how to use this app or maybe even accompanying
- 24:11Speaker 1: them to like medical appointments because you're just so bonded
- 24:14Speaker 1: that way.
- 24:15Speaker 1: Um, appreciate that story. If you want to catch up
- 24:17Speaker 1: with everything, please log on to Listen and Spotify. That's
- 24:20Speaker 1: after the show. So sad.
- 24:23Speaker 1: Oh, OK. Anyway, thank you for joining me here this morning,
- 24:26Speaker 1: Sonia with you. Some food news coming your way. Say
- 24:28Speaker 1: hi to our friends who at Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice,
- 24:31Speaker 1: and I've heard so many things about their new Jewel
- 24:34Speaker 1: Changi outlets. I mean, look, Tian Tian Chicken rice is
- 24:37Speaker 1: a really a household name for us here in Singapore, right?
- 24:40Speaker 1: Really cool that uh they are doing something quite new
- 24:43Speaker 1: over at Jewel Changi. Apparently, they're serving up their founder's
- 24:47Speaker 1: fantastic chicken curry.
- 24:50Speaker 1: The chef himself made at least 10 failed attempts before
- 24:53Speaker 1: the founder approved the curry recipe, which, you know, she
- 24:56Speaker 1: used to cook only for her family. So I think
- 24:58Speaker 1: people often show up at Tian Tian Chicken Rice for
- 25:01Speaker 1: like chicken rice, right? And to realize that, hey, the
- 25:03Speaker 1: one at Maxwell always sold out. And if there are
- 25:06Speaker 1: tourists who are only in town for a short while,
- 25:08Speaker 1: they may not even be able to come by the
- 25:09Speaker 1: next day. So, opening a flagship outlet at Jewel Changi
- 25:13Speaker 1: is so smart because you catch them just before they
- 25:16Speaker 1: leave or maybe just when they land.
- 25:19Speaker 1: And they get to try it at least, right? And
- 25:21Speaker 1: they've got such a big history since like 1986, I
- 25:24Speaker 1: think it's been open and the recipe has stayed with
- 25:28Speaker 1: the family ever since. There are some exclusive dishes over
- 25:31Speaker 1: at Jewel as well. Hainanese pork chop, a sharing platter,
- 25:34Speaker 1: you've got nohyang, Thai style fried tofu, stomach's growling as
- 25:38Speaker 1: I read this out. Um, what I probably would not
- 25:41Speaker 1: eat is the crystal chicken feet because I'm not a
- 25:43Speaker 1: chicken feet fan.
- 25:44Speaker 1: But everything else I don't mind. The chicken curry, I
- 25:47Speaker 1: think I need to try for sure. It looks so, so,
- 25:50Speaker 1: so good. Apparently, everyone is raving about it, saying the
- 25:53Speaker 1: curry is fantastic. Um, you got to pair it, of course,
- 25:55Speaker 1: with your rice, your bread, your noodles or whatever. You
- 25:58Speaker 1: need some carbs with the curry, you know, 100%, right. Um,
- 26:02Speaker 1: this one over at Jewel looks definitely more upmarket and
- 26:05Speaker 1: it's almost like a, like a casual restaurant setting, but
- 26:09Speaker 1: you might catch a glimpse of Madam Fu herself if
- 26:11Speaker 1: you actually do stick around and
- 26:14Speaker 1: You, you spot her, please go take a picture. She's
- 26:17Speaker 1: practically an icon here in Singapore. It is over at B2,
- 26:21Speaker 1: Jewel Changi Airport. This is Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice's
- 26:25Speaker 1: flagship store. Here's some food news coming your way. Say
- 26:28Speaker 1: hi to our friends who are at Tian Tian Hainanese
- 26:30Speaker 1: Chicken Rice, and I've heard so many things about their
- 26:33Speaker 1: new Jewel Changi outlets. I mean, look, Tian Tian Chicken

- 27:50Speaker 1: so good. Apparently, everyone is raving about it, saying the
- 27:52Speaker 1: curry is fantastic. Um, you got to pair it, of course,
