- 0:16Speaker 1: Welcome in.
- 0:17Speaker 2: It is Jagg's am. Take me Shadwick with you, flying solo.
- 0:21Speaker 2: We have arrived in April, posing in on the NFL Draft, putting.
- 0:26Speaker 1: It again to today. Let's get immediately to our big things.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Coming out of the NFL Annual meeting down in Palm
- 0:33Speaker 2: Beach this week. Plenty of coverage from there, including head
- 0:36Speaker 2: coach Liam Cohen with the media yesterday at the AFC
- 0:40Speaker 2: Coaches Breakfast, reflecting on the relationship with GM James Gladstone, James.
- 0:46Speaker 3: And I weren't just like we weren't like homeless, you know,
- 0:48Speaker 3: like we worked together. He was leading always the undrafted
- 0:54Speaker 3: free agent process after the draft, and he spearheaded it.
- 0:57Speaker 4: Like he talked.
- 0:59Speaker 3: He was the guy communic to both the coaches and
- 1:01Speaker 3: the scouting department, right, that was what he did. He
- 1:04Speaker 3: was in charge of it and led in. I was like, man,
- 1:06Speaker 3: this dude's impressive, you know, like, this isn't easy to communicate.
- 1:09Speaker 3: Bullets and things are flying in that moment, and he's
- 1:12Speaker 3: able to keep his head so cool, communicate at a
- 1:15Speaker 3: high level. And then men go back in twenty two
- 1:18Speaker 3: and he's now doing that with the draft and he's
- 1:21Speaker 3: really hand in hand with less and working with Sean
- 1:24Speaker 3: and those guys in that process that I'm like, well, okay,
- 1:27Speaker 3: that happened quickly, and man, his just ability to communicate
- 1:31Speaker 3: with all walks of life is really cool and his
- 1:35Speaker 3: organizational skills have helped me out to mendously.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Of course, Cohen and Gladstone go back to their days
- 1:40Speaker 2: at the La Rams and we'll hear Gladstone's part of
- 1:43Speaker 2: this coming up. He sat down with John Ozer, Jaguars
- 1:47Speaker 2: senior writer yesterday at the annual meeting. We'll hear that
- 1:50Speaker 2: conversation coming up in just a few minutes. And we're
- 1:54Speaker 2: one week away from the off season program. The veterans
- 1:57Speaker 2: can show up next week April seventh. Officially they can start.
- 2:01Speaker 2: The Jaguars start April eighth. Then Cohen was asked yesterday
- 2:05Speaker 2: what can they expect when they walk in the building?
- 2:09Speaker 4: Energy?
- 2:09Speaker 3: You know, that's the first thing when we're really trying
- 2:11Speaker 3: to place is just feel guys like, this.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Is good stuff.
- 2:14Speaker 3: It's great to be back. We're doing football. Guys, how
- 2:16Speaker 3: many of us get to do this. We get an
- 2:19Speaker 3: opportunity to do this every single day. There's so many
- 2:23Speaker 3: that don't, and so how are we going to approach
- 2:25Speaker 3: this thing. I think they'll walk into that kind of
- 2:27Speaker 3: feeling and you know, we'll meet. We'll just do meetings
- 2:30Speaker 3: obviously throughout phase one, introducing our systems, while we at
- 2:34Speaker 3: the same time start to introduce our culture, the way
- 2:37Speaker 3: that we're going to be, the way we're going to
- 2:39Speaker 3: talk to each other, the way that we're going to
- 2:41Speaker 3: communicate with each other, how we're going to treat one another.
- 2:44Speaker 3: That'll go hand in hand with the systems.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Yeah, systems, the culture, and yes, strength and conditioning allowed
- 2:50Speaker 2: only on the field for a very short amount of
- 2:52Speaker 2: time with strength and conditioning coaches in phase one of
- 2:55Speaker 2: the off season program coming up, starting next week.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Coming up, when we return, we'll hear.
- 3:01Speaker 2: From GM James Gladstone sitting down with John Ozer down
- 3:05Speaker 2: in Palm Beach yesterday.
- 3:06Speaker 1: This is Jaggs Am.
- 3:14Speaker 2: The twenty twenty five season is right around the corner,
- 3:17Speaker 2: and the time to get those twenty twenty five season
- 3:19Speaker 2: ticket memberships is right now. Be at the bank for
- 3:23Speaker 2: every touchdown, secure your seats at Jaguars dot com, slash tickets.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Or call nine oh four six three three two thousand.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Welcome back. It's Jaggs am. We have arrived at April first.
- 3:35Speaker 2: JP Shadrick with you on a busy few days down
- 3:39Speaker 2: at the NFL Annual Meeting in Palm Beach. John Oser
- 3:43Speaker 2: down there reporting and you'll see some of his writing
- 3:46Speaker 2: coming up this week on Jaguars dot com. Liam Cohen
- 3:49Speaker 2: met with the media yesterday and yeah, early yesterday in
- 3:53Speaker 2: the AFC Coaches Breakfast, we'll hear more from the Jaguars
- 3:56Speaker 2: head coach coming up. But also sitting down with Osher,
- 4:00Speaker 2: James Gladstone, the Jaguars general manager, start a free agency
- 4:05Speaker 2: is in the rear view. We're closing in on three
- 4:07Speaker 2: weeks to his first NFL draft as a general manager.
- 4:11Speaker 2: And the conversation from Palm Beach.
- 4:14Speaker 5: I'm John Oser here at the Annual Meetings with Jaguars
- 4:17Speaker 5: General manager James Gladsnett. Big impression of your first month
- 4:20Speaker 5: on the job.
- 4:21Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, I think a couple things jump out right.
- 4:24Speaker 6: The off season got off to a fast start, and
- 4:27Speaker 6: really our fan base, their support has really been something
- 4:30Speaker 6: that's inspired our group. At the same time, I think
- 4:33Speaker 6: the energy around what the future holds has really been
- 4:37Speaker 6: something that's been captivating. And you know, in addition to that,
- 4:41Speaker 6: the alignment across the organization, from ownership to operations to
- 4:46Speaker 6: coaching and scouting. There's a shared vision for what lies
- 4:50Speaker 6: on the horizon. And in addition to that, the clarity
- 4:53Speaker 6: that comes with what it is that we're hunting up.
- 4:55Speaker 6: And I think that only points to a healthier dose
- 4:59Speaker 6: and efficiency and effectiveness of the decisions that lie ahead,
- 5:02Speaker 6: especially as we start looking towards the draft.
- 5:05Speaker 5: Head coach Liam Cohen talked this morning and said, you
- 5:07Speaker 5: guys have basically spent every week and minute together since
- 5:10Speaker 5: you got the job. What is that synchronicity, what is
- 5:14Speaker 5: that relationship bal like so far?
- 5:15Speaker 6: You know, working with Liam, he has such a fresh
- 5:17Speaker 6: perspective and you know, his ability to connect with people
- 5:21Speaker 6: and players in particular, it really stands out as well
- 5:24Speaker 6: as his you know, ability to adapt scheme to player
- 5:27Speaker 6: skill sets. It's something that I really respect. It's something
- 5:30Speaker 6: that I think is going to give us a real
- 5:31Speaker 6: notable edge here into the future. And you know, beyond Liam,
- 5:35Speaker 6: working with Tony BISSELLI the three of us really being
- 5:38Speaker 6: able to challenge each other in the right ways. And
- 5:41Speaker 6: you know, Tony brings such a fresh perspective as well,
- 5:44Speaker 6: and a unique perspective right through the lens of somebody
- 5:47Speaker 6: who's seen the organization at the highest points, really advantage
- 5:53Speaker 6: point that is integral to our operation and our process
- 5:56Speaker 6: to date, and really looking forward to see some of
- 5:59Speaker 6: the conversations that we've been having so far come to
- 6:01Speaker 6: life with real decisions here soon.
- 6:03Speaker 5: Got you You had such a quick lead up to
- 6:05Speaker 5: free agency, a little more time for the draft. Tell
- 6:09Speaker 5: me about how that has worked in terms of you
- 6:12Speaker 5: had scouted, you had familiar with players, and now you're
- 6:14Speaker 5: coming into an organization where they've already scouted a little bit.
- 6:18Speaker 5: How does that all come together if you follow me
- 6:19Speaker 5: in terms of how you see guys.
- 6:21Speaker 6: Yeah, you know our approach to free agency and the draft,
- 6:25Speaker 6: you know, they're uniquely intentional. And I think with free agency,
- 6:28Speaker 6: our goal was to elevate the floor of the roster,
- 6:32Speaker 6: and I think we struck a real positive balance between
- 6:35Speaker 6: prioritizing players and people right the type who by inviting
- 6:40Speaker 6: them into our ecosystem being nothing more than who they are,
- 6:43Speaker 6: elevate those around them, elevate our culture. And I think
- 6:47Speaker 6: as we turned towards the draft, it's going to be
- 6:49Speaker 6: really fun to start addressing the ceiling.
- 6:52Speaker 5: Now, fans write to me all the time wanting to
- 6:56Speaker 5: know exactly what you mean when you say in tantris
- 7:00Speaker 5: A lot of debate about it, and how do you
- 7:02Speaker 5: define that because you like to talk about it a lot.
- 7:04Speaker 6: Yeah, I think it's great to be intangibly curious, as
- 7:08Speaker 6: our fan base might be labeled at this point, but
- 7:11Speaker 6: intangibly rich. I think we can all get to a
- 7:13Speaker 6: place that even in our own minds, it means somewhat
- 7:17Speaker 6: of the same thing when we're looking at on field.
- 7:19Speaker 6: In tangibles, it's things like competitiveness, toughness, and even instincts
- 7:24Speaker 6: and nuances of each skill that is offered up at
- 7:28Speaker 6: each position. Off the field, you're looking about you know,
- 7:31Speaker 6: how much passion does somebody have for the game itself
- 7:35Speaker 6: as well as what are they like as a team
- 7:37Speaker 6: might and a person off the field, And so those
- 7:40Speaker 6: are things that we gauge and really lean into as
- 7:44Speaker 6: a part of our decision making process. It's really where
- 7:46Speaker 6: we start at each point of player acquisition. But you know,
- 7:49Speaker 6: we got to remain agile at the same time and
- 7:51Speaker 6: be open to you know, a number of options. But
- 7:55Speaker 6: at the end of the day, yes, it's rooted in intangibles,
- 7:58Speaker 6: and that's something that we'll keep our north star as
- 8:01Speaker 6: we round out this first offseason.
- 8:03Speaker 5: I got your final question. It's always tough to ask
- 8:06Speaker 5: about the draft because nobody says anything about the draft,
- 8:08Speaker 5: But how do you like this draft? And how close
- 8:11Speaker 5: are you to being ready for the draft?
- 8:13Speaker 6: You know, there's still a lot of work to be done.
- 8:15Speaker 6: You know, we're just about a month away from draft
- 8:18Speaker 6: day decisions, and we've had the chance to meet with
- 8:20Speaker 6: our coaching staff that discuss the initial wave of prospects,
- 8:23Speaker 6: and they're working through the next batch and I think
- 8:26Speaker 6: we'll see a lot of clarity here with the next
- 8:28Speaker 6: chance that we have to sit down with them and
- 8:31Speaker 6: really shape the you know, top one hundred of the
- 8:35Speaker 6: draft class. And then we'll see how Day three ends
- 8:38Speaker 6: up unfolding in real time, knowing that there's a lot
- 8:41Speaker 6: of unpredictability to that stage of the draft for sure.
- 8:44Speaker 5: Fantastic James Gladstone, Thank you very much.
- 8:46Speaker 6: I appreciate it.
- 8:47Speaker 2: James Gladstone with John Oser down at the NFL Annual
- 8:50Speaker 2: meeting at the Breakers in Palm Beach, and you can
- 8:53Speaker 2: see that conversation archived on Jaguars dot Com and Jags YouTube.
- 8:58Speaker 2: We're back in a moment and we'll hear from the
- 9:01Speaker 2: head coach again, Liam Cohen, so highlights from the AFC
- 9:04Speaker 2: Coaches Breakfast yesterday and a little later some rule changes
- 9:08Speaker 2: past this morning by league owners. This is jags Am.
- 9:18Speaker 2: So I'm look inside Everbanks Stadium as the off season
- 9:23Speaker 2: is about to begin a week from now.
- 9:25Speaker 1: And move the freight.
- 9:27Speaker 2: Move the freight, Magell and transport vo to the coolest
- 9:30Speaker 2: office space in Jacksonville. Play online at Magellanlogistics dot com.
- 9:36Speaker 2: We'll be moving freight into that stadium coming up very soon,
- 9:40Speaker 2: just a few months from now.
- 9:41Speaker 1: Welcome back. It's Jags Am JP Shadwick with you. Everybody
- 9:44Speaker 1: else out this week, that's okay. We'll be back with
- 9:46Speaker 1: you next week.
- 9:47Speaker 2: As the off season program begins starting next Tuesday here
- 9:51Speaker 2: at the Miller Electric Center and Strength and Conditioning, we'll
- 9:55Speaker 2: get underway, and that means that football things will begin
- 9:59Speaker 2: happening very very quickly and often around here in the
- 10:02Speaker 2: off season with the off season program and then three
- 10:04Speaker 2: weeks away a little over three weeks to the NFL Draft,
- 10:09Speaker 2: and then Ota is just a little bit down the road,
- 10:12Speaker 2: and we're here. We are on the doorstep at least
- 10:15Speaker 2: of the off season program in twenty twenty five, and
- 10:18Speaker 2: so is head coach Liam Cohen, who visited with the
- 10:21Speaker 2: media at the AFC Coaches Breakfast down at the Breakers
- 10:23Speaker 2: in Palm Beach yesterday and discussing it, asked.
- 10:28Speaker 1: About a lot of things.
- 10:29Speaker 2: Of course, the full conversation at Jaguars dot com and
- 10:31Speaker 2: Jaguars YouTube about thirty minutes worth, so a little too
- 10:34Speaker 2: much to run in this program. Will take some of
- 10:37Speaker 2: the highlights though, starting with the organization and the structure
- 10:41Speaker 2: of what they've done at the top, you're in Jacksonville.
- 10:45Speaker 3: That's the beautiful way of how we structured this with myself,
- 10:48Speaker 3: James twenty viselli, I'm able to truly focus on the
- 10:52Speaker 3: staff like that's it, Like I keep the main thing,
- 10:56Speaker 3: the main thing.
- 10:56Speaker 1: I'm a football coach.
- 10:57Speaker 3: James lost personnel. Tony is able to help with so
- 11:00Speaker 3: much of the support staff and communication. So yeah, the
- 11:04Speaker 3: time is doubled. I haven't done a lot of ball,
- 11:07Speaker 3: but it's been really cool. I think with the players
- 11:10Speaker 3: coming in soon be able to do a little bit more.
- 11:12Speaker 3: But it's a normal day right now. Starts with about
- 11:15Speaker 3: you know six am that they have a schedule for
- 11:18Speaker 3: me every day and then I go in with James
- 11:20Speaker 3: for the rest of the day. So that's where we've
- 11:21Speaker 3: been at right now.
- 11:22Speaker 2: Now let's reference the scene that they're in here and
- 11:25Speaker 2: a tent outside of the breakers, and each head coach
- 11:28Speaker 2: has a table and it's a roundtable discussion. You can
- 11:31Speaker 2: bounce from table to table and talk to different head coaches,
- 11:34Speaker 2: so they're actually in the full conversation or a couple
- 11:37Speaker 2: of repeats things that are asked twice or three times.
- 11:40Speaker 2: It's the national media or another teams media's only chance
- 11:43Speaker 2: a lot of times to visit with a certain head coach.
- 11:46Speaker 2: So there are some bigger picture answers like the one.
- 11:49Speaker 2: We've heard this over and over again, but the organizational
- 11:52Speaker 2: structure here in Jacksonville is something that somebody out of
- 11:56Speaker 2: market might not have heard before. It's also one of
- 11:59Speaker 2: his first opportunity to explain the departure of Christian Kirk
- 12:02Speaker 2: and Evan Ingram. They were both cut due to cap
- 12:06Speaker 2: reasons and now the quest to replace two productive players
- 12:12Speaker 2: in this team.
- 12:14Speaker 3: Yeah, always hard letting go of good football players. Man,
- 12:16Speaker 3: have a ton of respect for both of those guys.
- 12:19Speaker 3: You know, I'd done some really good things here that
- 12:21Speaker 3: those were not easy decisions, and ultimately I hate to
- 12:25Speaker 3: let go of good football players, but you know, production right,
- 12:29Speaker 3: those guys did have a good amount of targets, receptions,
- 12:33Speaker 3: you know, some critical plays in different moments of different years.
- 12:37Speaker 3: So there's some chemistry, some camaraderie there. I'm sure that
- 12:40Speaker 3: we have to, you know, continue to work on. But
- 12:43Speaker 3: I think you saw what BT and Trevor were able
- 12:45Speaker 3: to do last year, and then obviously with some of
- 12:47Speaker 3: the guys in Parker Washington had a great.
- 12:49Speaker 1: Connection and you start to see some.
- 12:51Speaker 3: Of these guys evolve, We're like, okay, you know, this
- 12:54Speaker 3: allows us to do some different things within our roster
- 12:57Speaker 3: structure and feel confident about where it's going him forward, and.
- 13:01Speaker 2: We'll see what happens in the draft, of course, if
- 13:03Speaker 2: they add any other pieces at both of those positions
- 13:06Speaker 2: coming up in about three weeks time. A big question
- 13:10Speaker 2: is the relationship between the head coach and the quarterback,
- 13:14Speaker 2: Trevor Lawrence. Not a lot of football talk, in fact,
- 13:17Speaker 2: none allowed this time of year until the offseason program
- 13:20Speaker 2: officially begins, but they've had plenty of time together to
- 13:23Speaker 2: get to know each other really.
- 13:26Speaker 3: Good conversations, you know, and not being able to work.
- 13:28Speaker 4: With him quite yet.
- 13:29Speaker 3: But man, we haven't went out to dinner a few times,
- 13:32Speaker 3: and I saw the vision talk to a guy that
- 13:35Speaker 3: I know right off the bat is physically and mentally tough.
- 13:38Speaker 3: I believe that about going and so that's how I'm
- 13:41Speaker 3: excited to work with him about it.
- 13:43Speaker 1: He's open.
- 13:44Speaker 3: He just wants to play at the highest level as
- 13:47Speaker 3: he can. He just he wants to accept as much
- 13:49Speaker 3: coaching and wants to be coached hard, and he wants
- 13:52Speaker 3: to do well. So those are the great conversations that
- 13:55Speaker 3: he's open, he wants to work, and he's been willing
- 13:57Speaker 3: to work.
- 13:58Speaker 1: Really excited about.
- 13:59Speaker 3: Those going forward.
- 14:00Speaker 1: That's a good starting spot for those two.
- 14:03Speaker 2: And yes, it will be a challenge moving ahead for
- 14:06Speaker 2: Trevor Lawrence. Third offense for him and now year five
- 14:09Speaker 2: in the National Football League, and everything will be built
- 14:13Speaker 2: around number sixteen moving ahead, and certainly he'll have some
- 14:17Speaker 2: input into how things are put together in the offensive
- 14:20Speaker 2: installation coming up in the next few weeks. And finally
- 14:24Speaker 2: in free agency at least the Jaguars added for offensive linemen,
- 14:29Speaker 2: so setting the tone for change up front of the
- 14:31Speaker 2: trenches on that side of the football, but a lot
- 14:34Speaker 2: of questions about the defensive line for Liam Cohen.
- 14:38Speaker 3: I think ultimately you're looking to add some competition and
- 14:41Speaker 3: there we've got some really good players down there. I think,
- 14:43Speaker 3: you know, we've got three first rounders right on our
- 14:47Speaker 3: defensive line currently, so three guys that are going.
- 14:51Speaker 1: To have some good years.
- 14:52Speaker 3: Hopefully they're hoping, you know, elevate that room and we'll
- 14:55Speaker 3: continue to evaluate it. But yeah, absolutely you're looking to
- 14:59Speaker 3: add points, somebody for the dealerne however that thing plays
- 15:02Speaker 3: out inside.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Or Heines Allen, Trayvon Walker, Eric Arms said the first rounders,
- 15:07Speaker 2: they do have some bodies on the interior, but obviously
- 15:11Speaker 2: most of the box recently have Mason Graham of Michigan
- 15:15Speaker 2: coming this way. Time will tell what happens there, But
- 15:18Speaker 2: the work is not done on the trenches. I don't
- 15:21Speaker 2: think on either side of the football. You can expect
- 15:24Speaker 2: a lot of focus on both of those lines coming
- 15:26Speaker 2: up with whatever is left in free agency, which it
- 15:29Speaker 2: never really ends, and the NFL Draft in.
- 15:31Speaker 1: About three weeks time.
- 15:33Speaker 2: The full conversation and availability with Liam Cohen, the Jaguars
- 15:36Speaker 2: head coach at Jaguars dot Com and Jaggs YouTube.
- 15:40Speaker 1: We're back in a moment.
- 15:41Speaker 2: Some rule changes passed by NFL owners this morning. We'll
- 15:45Speaker 2: give you the latest and look ahead of the offseason
- 15:47Speaker 2: program after this on jags Am.
- 16:00Speaker 4: Taking that one.
- 16:01Speaker 6: It's a pleasure true on season six, episode one.
- 16:17Speaker 4: All right, let's go, dude.
- 16:33Speaker 2: The hunt coming up this Thursday, seven pm. The debut
- 16:39Speaker 2: on Jaguars dot com, but also check it on Jaguars YouTube.
- 16:43Speaker 1: And welcome back to Jaggs Am.
- 16:44Speaker 5: J P.
- 16:45Speaker 2: Shadwick with you and Jaguars Football is presented by Fresh
- 16:48Speaker 2: from Florida. It's always in season, of course, one week
- 16:55Speaker 2: until the off season program. The players will be in
- 16:58Speaker 2: the building on Tuesday officially to begin the strength and
- 17:01Speaker 2: conditioning part of the off season, and then of course, hey,
- 17:07Speaker 2: a couple of weeks of that, there is a mini
- 17:09Speaker 2: camp in there as well. They can have an additional
- 17:11Speaker 2: one voluntary mini camp with the new coaching staff. Then
- 17:15Speaker 2: Phase two begins a little more on field work, and
- 17:17Speaker 2: then Phase three of the OTAs as the off season progresses.
- 17:20Speaker 1: But it all starts next week today.
- 17:24Speaker 2: Down at the NFL Annual Meeting. The Owners meetings down
- 17:27Speaker 2: at Palm Beach and the breakers owners passing a few
- 17:31Speaker 2: different rules today, including a modified kickoff rule, so touchbacks
- 17:38Speaker 2: apparently now will come back to the.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Thirty five yard line.
- 17:41Speaker 2: No changes yet on on side kicks, according to Tom
- 17:44Speaker 2: Pelsero of NFL Media, that could come at a different
- 17:49Speaker 2: time in the off season. So that's one rule that
- 17:54Speaker 2: passed today. Another that got expanded was the replay assist
- 17:59Speaker 2: that was passed. It's got to be objective elements of rules.
- 18:04Speaker 2: There cannot be flags thrown from the expanded replay. There
- 18:08Speaker 2: can be flags taken away.
- 18:10Speaker 1: From the expanded replay.
- 18:11Speaker 2: They want all flags thrown on the field to be
- 18:13Speaker 2: thrown by the on field officials, not from the expanded replay,
- 18:18Speaker 2: the booth or New York So, as we said, no
