- 1:50name in our industry for over 15 years, supplying us with tons of
- 1:54fluid power products such as power steering cooler kits, oil
- 1:57catch cans, engine oil coolers, hydraulic handbrake kits, and of
- 2:01course their dual piston brake booster delete kits which fit a
- 2:05wide variety of vehicles. The core values of Chase Bays is
- 2:09function, simplicity, quality, quality and aesthetic.
- 2:12All of their products are user friendly and easy to install
- 2:15while of course looking the part.
- 2:17The quality of their products has only increased over the
- 2:19years and now with Front Street Drift Club being a sponsored
- 2:22team of Chase Bays, you can guarantee the products are
- 2:25stress tested as well. I'm currently digging their
- 2:28compact intercooler sprayer reservoir kit.
- 2:30This kit includes a pump and pigtail to wire it up to any
- 2:33switch you want. I've been a big fan of sleek
- 2:35looking OEM style intercooler sprayers ever since Subaru had
- 2:38one on the STI and this kit provides you with what you need
- 2:42to get started. If you need any more info on any
- 2:45of their products, make sure to take a look at their product
- 2:47descriptions. They have some of the most
- 2:49detailed descriptions I've read with tons of information.
- 2:52You can check out Chase Bay's products and place your orders
- 2:54directly on our website at factionmotorsports.com.
- 2:57And make sure to use the coupon code Chase Bay's After Hours

- 3:04This podcast is also sponsored by Automotive Specialty Wraps.
- 3:08Automotive Specialty Wraps is a company specializing in paint
- 3:11protection, film vehicle wraps, ceramic coatings, and window
- 3:14tinting located in Fairlawn, New Jersey.
- 3:17Owned and operated by car enthusiasts and Drifters, their
- 3:19technicians have over 10 years of experience in the industry.
- 3:22Ceramic coating is one of their specialities and is the service
- 3:25they offer that caught my eye first.
- 3:27In the 60s, NASA and the US military formulated a ceramic
- 3:31coating to be used on spacecraft and planes.
- 3:34This coating would be able to protect them from harsh
- 3:36conditions. Following that, in the early
- 3:392000s, ceramic coatings were revamped to be used in the
- 3:42automotive industry. These coatings give your cars
- 3:45paint extra protection while also making it shine.
- 3:48Wax only lasts for a couple of weeks at most, but ceramic
- 3:51coatings last for a year or longer.
- 3:53They perform a full 2 stage Polish to the car beforehand to
- 3:56make sure the vehicle is in perfect condition before
- 3:59applying the coating. This service can also be applied
- 4:02to wheels, which would be the best thing you can do to a new
- 4:04set of wheels you just picked up if you are looking to protect
- 4:06them for years to come. As mentioned, they also offer
- 4:09window tinting and paint protection film installations.
- 4:12Now everyone knows what window tinting is, but these guys offer
- 4:15carbon or ceramic tinting depending on your needs.
- 4:18Paint protection film or PPF is a great idea for those new
- 4:22vehicle owners that want to protect their paint before it
- 4:24gets chipped up driving down the highway.
- 4:27I always suggest having at least the front end done in PPF like
- 4:30the front bumper, fenders and hood.
- 4:33ASW is now offering mobile detailing and this is no basic
- 4:36car wash, it's more of a 2 hour spa session for your car using
- 4:39special soaps designed to extract toxins out of your
- 4:43paint. And the best part is they will
- 4:44come to your house, job or even our shop when your car is being
- 4:47serviced to get the wash done. From protecting your tow rigs
- 4:51exterior to full delivery installations on your drift car,
- 4:54they have you covered. You can contact them at
- 4:56automotive specialtywraps.com and make sure to mention our
- 4:59podcast. They are currently offering 10%
- 5:02off mobile washes and tinting services for our listeners.
- 5:05Limitless Auto Fab is a fabrication shop and retailer
- 5:08located in Illinois. They produce bash bars and catch
- 5:11cans for a bunch of popular models in the drifting
- 5:14community. We started selling their
- 5:15products earlier this year and have heard nothing but great
- 5:18things since. Limitless Bash bars are honestly
- 5:21the industry standard right now. Fabricated from inch and a half
- 5:23mild steel tubes, these bars are designed to take the impact of
- 5:27light collisions in order to avoid or minimize damage to your
- 5:29body or frame. My favorite part about these
- 5:32bash bars is that they are designed in a way that helps
- 5:34hold most aftermarket bumpers up at the correct height, unlike a
- 5:38lot of other aftermarket bars that require you to either Weld
- 5:40additional brackets on or install those big foam rubber
- 5:44pieces to raise the bumpers up to avoid bumper sag.
- 5:47This is a huge pet peeve of mine when installing bash bars at the
- 5:50shop, so I'm really glad about this feature.
- 5:54Gone are the days of trying to keep your rusty rear factory
- 5:57crash bar because you are worried about bumper fitment
- 5:59issues with an aftermarket one. Their bars also come with
- 6:02jacking points and an optional license plate brackets, so
- 6:05everything you need is right there from the start.
- 6:07Limitless Auto also sells catch cans for a handful of specific
- 6:10models. These cans are built in house
- 6:13and chassis specific. We have used these cans before
- 6:15in the shop with no issues and they look great as well.
- 6:19The guys over at Limitless are on social media as well at
- 6:22Limitless under score Auto under score Fab, so please make sure
- 6:26to check out their Instagram and give them a follow.
- 6:28They post photos of all the drift cars using their products
- 6:31from Front Street Drift Club to Animal Style.
- 6:34If you are in the market for a bash bar or catch can, make sure
- 6:36to check out their full product lineup on our website
- 6:39factionmotorsports.com. This podcast is brought to you
- 6:43by Faction Motorsports. We are an automotive performance
- 6:46shop located in East Rutherford, NJ.
- 6:49Our shop is easy to get to from Route 17, three and 21.
- 6:52We are also only 15 minutes away from New York City.
- 6:55Faction Motorsports provide services that include but are
- 6:58not limited to performance part installations, suspension
- 7:01overhauls, general maintenance, engine installations, tire
- 7:05mounting and balancing and custom 4 wheel alignments with
- 7:08our in house Hunter alignment machine.
- 7:11We also stock a range of performance products in house
- 7:14from AN fittings and gaskets to complete body kits.
- 7:17We try to stock as many parts as we can to provide quick shipping
- 7:20times for our website customers and same day pick up for locals.
- 7:24Make sure to shoot us an e-mail if you are looking to set up an
- 7:27appointment or if you are looking for a part that is not
- 7:30up on our website. Our e-mail is
- 7:32sales@factionmotorsports.com. We are also on Instagram at
- 7:36Faction Motorsports. All right, let's start going.
- 7:50Malcolm, you're good. OK, well, welcome everybody to
- 7:53the Faction After Hours podcast. We're here to bring another
- 7:55episode while Malcolm just randomly said it's good to
- 7:57start. I'm doing that now.
- 8:00He's just like, all right, you're good.
- 8:01And now we're awkwardly just sitting here.
- 8:03We're like already talking. And then he's like, Oh yeah,
- 8:05you've been recording. We're here to bring you another
- 8:07guest. We got super life K, one of my
- 8:11favorite people to have on the podcast.
- 8:12Welcome. Oh.
- 8:13Thank you. Thank you very much.
- 8:15Just because you got a you, you, you like engage in a
- 8:19conversation where you really get your point across.
- 8:22And I like that, you know? Thank you man.
- 8:24I mean, I try. I mean, I like having
- 8:26conversations, especially when it's things I enjoy talking
- 8:28about, yeah. Yeah, also Carls been getting
- 8:32into some body work so. Dude, I was going to say so
- 8:35aside from that. I'm sorry to hear.
- 8:36Man. No, no.
- 8:37Aside from that podcast, like we got to talk about a lot about
- 8:41you. If you haven't listened to that
- 8:42podcast with K earlier on, I'm talking like early, I don't
- 8:47maybe episode 30. Yeah, Malcolm, if you could find
- 8:49out what number I. Don't know what episode that was
- 8:51but that was a long time ago it. Was way back.
- 8:53It had to have been at at least two years.
- 8:55Dude, yeah, at least two years. And since then from that pod, it
- 8:59grew into I talked to Josh Roloff's too and just doing side
- 9:03work. And then I met my one of my
- 9:04closest friends now Diego, who does paint.
- 9:06I think I mentioned him earlier, the whole glass mishap.
- 9:09I think Gordino Emperor Uno oh. No, no, not from around.
- 9:13He's from Georgia. No, I thought it would have been
- 9:15someone I. Know.
- 9:16No, no, no. But thanks to that pod, I delved
- 9:19into it like I painted seven cars.
- 9:22Episode 33. Yeah.
- 9:23Painted seven cars. Entire cars.
- 9:25Yeah, seven cars last year and then like a bunch of kits in
- 9:27between. Wow.
- 9:28And they're not, you know, it's not like crazy special, but
- 9:32remember there was one message that POD delivered to me and it
- 9:36was like, just go out and fucking try it.
- 9:37Just do. It.
- 9:38Yeah, yeah. Just do it.
- 9:39So I literally just started doing.
- 9:41It If you wait to be perfect, you're never gonna start.
- 9:45You're never gonna. Start.
- 9:46That is the most. Important.
- 9:47I'm just so, I don't wanna sound like I'm bitching or whatever,
- 9:50but I'm just so tired of being around people that keep saying
- 9:53they're gonna do something and just never start.
- 9:55I rather you do it and it come out OK rather than just not
- 9:58doing it at all. Yeah.
- 9:59And I mean, that's just the best way you learn is just do it.
- 10:03Just go out and do. It dude, no for real, it's good
- 10:05shit. That that was.
- 10:06Going that was from our pod dude.
- 10:09Like it was, right. It was.
- 10:10I did say that, yeah. Yeah, nice man from I'm Glad two
- 10:13years ago. To now I have learned so much at
- 10:16random bullshit along the way of like just how to be around body
- 10:22stuff. Not that you know, obviously
- 10:23there's a whole encyclopedia of shit to know, but just little
- 10:28things. Like I remember you said like if
- 10:31you heard somebody sanding, you could probably tell that that
- 10:33person is sanding it wrong. I could tell.
- 10:35Right away I. Could just hear it right away
- 10:37and I, I didn't know what that meant until I was sanding and I
- 10:41was like, this is coming out kind of like shit.
- 10:43And then when you sand it. There's this.
- 10:46Feeling sound that it makes and you're like, yeah, that's good
- 10:49to say. People just when you say sand,
- 10:52it's just people think it's to get from point A to point B it
- 10:55needs to be sanded. Okay, but what makes you
- 10:58experience is knowing when to stop is knowing how to start,
- 11:04when to start, where to start. Like there's so many ways to go
- 11:07about it. It's not just getting there.
- 11:09There's no finished. And sometimes you can just start
- 11:13to say anything like OK, I think it's good and it's good.
- 11:16It goes up, it goes up and you get to a point where it's
- 11:18perfect and if you keep going, it starts going down again and.
- 11:22And. And then you got to go back.
- 11:24You got to put some more shit on or just do steps over again.
- 11:26You're just taking steps back. This.
- 11:28Is giving me like PTSD when I would have to like do body work
- 11:30on my car. No, but.
- 11:31Because now I understand what you're saying.
- 11:33Yes, there's. There is such thing as too much
- 11:35and that's where the art aspect comes in because it's not.
- 11:39And I'm not putting down any, any other aspect of the car
- 11:42world when it comes to to installing a manifold or
- 11:45whatever. But when you install a manifold,
- 11:47you install the manifold, you just tighten it up and whatever
- 11:49you just go on, it's done. There's a right way to do it.
- 11:51But when it comes to sanding or whatever it may be, there's a
- 11:55certain there's a finesse to it where the experience is, OK, I
- 12:00have to stop here because I need to get to here and I need, I
- 12:02need to do this. And that comes with time that
- 12:05comes with constantly doing it. I remember being an apprentice
- 12:08and sanding, sanding, sanding, sanding.
- 12:12And my mentor at the time, John, I'll be like, I'm done.
- 12:16He would come. He would feel it.
- 12:17Yeah, he touches. It he would, he would just touch
- 12:18it. He's like, he's like, oh God,
- 12:20this feels like shit. God, I'm like, what?
- 12:23I'm like, what? I put all my effort and time
- 12:26into this. This is wild.
- 12:28And he would just coat the whole hood over again.
- 12:30He'd be like, do it again. I'm like, what did I do wrong?
- 12:33What did he feel that I didn't feel?
- 12:35So obviously, not only did I learn how to do it better, but I
- 12:39also learned how to spot where I where was wrong, why he spotted
- 12:43those things and I couldn't spot them how he was going to search
- 12:46for them. So those things again, they come
- 12:49with time. He can't teach me.
- 12:51Oh, feel this a different way. That comes with time, that comes
- 12:53with knowing what the results are from doing this process.
- 12:58Dude, you know, what I also noticed is that sometimes, or
- 13:02what I do like about body work is that for the most part, so
- 13:06your system is going to be different than Joe Schmo's
- 13:09system over there and Smojo over there.
- 13:12They're all different. You just.
- 13:14You just. Everybody, everybody is like
- 13:19kind of just making their own system.
- 13:20So I kind of like that. I love that just because you you
- 13:25let's say you taught me something that maybe that
- 13:27podcast 1 like sanding don't like this.
- 13:30Use the side of your fingers so that it's like it's not a block,
- 13:34but it's better than going like this because then you see your
- 13:36hands. Certain things are better than
- 13:37other. Yeah, OK.
- 13:39But like little things like that, it's like, OK, how can I
- 13:41take that, make it work for my what I do in my everyday real
- 13:44quick, just little mental notes that people drop on you
- 13:48sometimes when having a conversation.
- 13:50There's, there's so many different ways to get there and
- 13:53I love that part about it. Love it because it's so cool,
- 13:57Because it's like, I don't know, like when I teach people, not
- 14:01that I teach people, but whenever people have worked for
- 14:04me the way I teach them, I put so much emphasis on this is not
- 14:09the right way. Not that it's the wrong way, but
- 14:12this is my way. And there are so many things I
- 14:14did a year ago, two years ago, five years ago that I don't do
- 14:18now. Oh my God, that is because.
- 14:20I'm just constantly changing my ways.
- 14:23And, you know, people assume that when they're watching you
- 14:26now that you're the best now. Like, brother, no, I'm still
- 14:29trying. I'm still trying my best.
- 14:30I'm still getting better. So those processes, the many
- 14:33ways to get there, they're always being changed.
- 14:36They always should be changed because you're never perfect.
- 14:38You're never the master you're trying to be.
- 14:40You're trying to get there and acquire that.
- 14:42But the process always changes. And that part is beautiful.
- 14:46I love that aspect of it. At the same time, it causes a
- 14:49lot of argument because let's say someone who knows what
- 14:54they're doing can come in to my studio and they could look
- 14:58around and they could be like, dude, you're a hack.
- 15:01Brother, you suck. Because it just might not be
- 15:05this process. Yeah, just.
- 15:06But like, see, that's where the argument is.
- 15:08Like if I saw someone else's process, I'm not going to come
- 15:11in and call you hack. I would have 10 years ago
- 15:14because I didn't understand it yet.
- 15:16Now I won't because I'm like, all right, dude.
- 15:18Like, the end results speak for themselves.
- 15:21You're not always going to stand next to your finished work.
- 15:23You need the finished work to speak for itself and that alone.
- 15:27Like I just like it is what? It is.
- 15:30That's how body work is though, yeah, Because there's so many
- 15:33ways to do something. So many different.
- 15:36Ways so one person could watch some video of someone standing
- 15:39something whatever, using bondo, whatever it is and then they'll
- 15:42see you do something else and they'll be like oh, but that's
- 15:44not the way you. Yeah.
- 15:45Oh, that's. Wrong.
- 15:46Oh, this one. Is you're you're an idiot, dude.
- 15:48I'm not. Yeah, we deal with the same
- 15:50stuff here with people like watching the how to install
- 15:53video. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 15:54And then they'll see us and they'll be, oh, but yeah, if you
- 15:56guys did it this way, I think. And it's like, OK.
- 15:58And yeah. Isn't that the worst one?
- 16:00You guys want someone else? End results speaks.
- 16:02End results. Yeah.
- 16:04Speak for themselves. Yeah.
- 16:06Being undeniable. That's it being undeniable for
- 16:10your process to be like when they see it, they're like,
- 16:13obviously it works, it looks good.
- 16:16So I mean, I mean, you can't say shit.
- 16:19Be undeniable. Be undeniable is the being
- 16:23undeniable is the word of it. Am I too laid back?
- 16:25Right now I want to no, I want to push good, right?
- 16:27I want to push you a little bit that way.
- 16:29Frank, you said you're getting too close to night.
- 16:31Yeah, yeah. Am I too like?
- 16:33I'm sorry I never sit up straight in chairs, man.
- 16:36That's fine. It's because you know why you're
- 16:38fucking spending all day like this.
- 16:39I am. I'm always like a permanent
- 16:41hunchback. No, I'll tell you what it was.
- 16:44Because when you look at him and now you look at me, you're going
- 16:46to be on the mic still. Before it was like this.
- 16:48It would be like you'd look at him.
- 16:49You're on the mic. And then I'm like.
- 16:50You're off the Yeah, that's the only thing I'm trying to fix.
- 16:52Yeah, no, everything else is good.
- 16:54You know what I do like though? The the double edged sword.
- 16:57That is the beautiful, beautiful thing of the Internet, right?
- 17:00It's great, but it's also not great.
- 17:02Is Facebook groups, old custom painter Facebook groups, right?
- 17:07It's my favorite thing to look at, the comments, the comments.
- 17:09Actually the comments, OK. Most of the time it's just some
- 17:12guy who's going. It's my first time doing flames.
- 17:14The job is absolutely perfect. I'm like, all right, go fuck
- 17:16yourself. Yeah.
- 17:18And go look at the comments. It's a lot of older generation
- 17:22painters because it's Facebook. Yeah, yeah, arguing.
- 17:26Are you crazy? You're horrible.
- 17:27Why would you apply the filler there?
- 17:29Or you should have used this, this product in that?
- 17:32And then it's a funky word, what I what I get to do or what I
- 17:34like to do. I don't know if this is what
- 17:36anybody else out there is doing, but I'll like, since I get to
- 17:39observe it from such a macro level, I try to see what it is
- 17:44that they're arguing about what issue it is in that video.
- 17:47And then I'm like, oh, OK, I could just negate that by doing
- 17:52it like this and applying my own little sprinkle to it.
- 17:55And I'm like my work, might not try it out.
- 17:59You can still take something positive from it because the
- 18:04intense when you read it, obviously there's gonna be some
- 18:06arguments and and all that shit. But I mean the point is like, if
- 18:10you think about it, the guys are just trying to do a better job.
- 18:13They're how all it comes down to.
- 18:15Is they want to help them, they. They they really just want to
- 18:17help. It might be a horrible way to do
- 18:19it. It might be very mean, but in
- 18:20the end they're they're really trying to help.
- 18:22So I'm I'm not on those pages because it's, it's a little bit
- 18:26toxic. Yeah, it is.
- 18:28No, no. But when it does pop up, I'm not
- 18:31going to lie, I've learned certain things.
- 18:33Maybe it's not things that I apply, it might be big, but
- 18:35certain tips, certain things that might happen, certain steps
- 18:39I always take, little things like I'm always open to.
- 18:41Learn always. Here's an example of like a tip
- 18:44that I found the other day for small pieces, you know, like
- 18:46those. It's like a roll of like fucking
- 18:48like maybe half an inch thick metal with like holes in it.
- 18:52Just a big roll of it comes out and this guy was like, I was
- 18:55painting mirror motorcycle fairings the other day.
- 18:59I need to make a stand. I keep A roll of this stuff on
- 19:01me. It's pretty cheap.
- 19:02Make stands out of it. Put it to put on the stand, so
- 19:05it's not. Teetering.
- 19:06You can make the brace, cut it to size, bend it.
- 19:09It's pretty. It holds a holds a structure.
- 19:11I love those tips. I was like hell yeah.
- 19:13Mental note. Like fucking.
- 19:15Yeah, I love those notes. I, I save all that because those
- 19:20things like the way that guy learned, however he learned his
- 19:24process and this applies to anything.
- 19:27He learned it, however the hell he learned it, it took him X
- 19:29amount of years. He just taught you this thing
- 19:32that that it took him years to learn in 10 seconds.
- 19:35That's for sure. That applies to people you
- 19:37teach. That applies to your apprentice,
- 19:39to you being an apprentice to whatever.
- 19:41Like if you think about it and this guy that you know you want
- 19:44to learn from, he's teaching you everything in just seconds.
- 19:47So those little tips are amazing.
- 19:49Like they're putting gold out there.
- 19:51They're gold. It's a good.
- 19:52Thing you're in that group. And I don't like that.
- 19:54I mean I don't like when people gate keep like info because
- 19:58sharing this kind of stuff tips is imperative for my craft to.
- 20:06To keep. Going because it's just it's
- 20:08getting less and less and less people.
- 20:10I don't know if it's because it's a hard job.
- 20:13I don't know it's if it's because for whatever reason, but
- 20:16there's less people doing it. So people need to continue on
- 20:20and, you know, share that that stuff, especially in an age
- 20:22where it's easy to share info 100% because it's really is a
- 20:27dying art. I.
- 20:28Don't know why it. I was just going to ask, yeah.
- 20:31So there's like a there's another.
- 20:33I'm friends with a younger guy. He made eyelids for the IS300.
- 20:39In like in like fiberglasses. Fiberglass he but he did it not
- 20:43the way I did. I just make one off parts.
- 20:45If I want to make something, I lay some HVAC tape, tinfoil,
- 20:49whatever plastic wrap just. Sand just so it doesn't stick.
- 20:52Make it the fiberglass you pop it off.
- 20:53But it's just for me, with no intent of reproduction.
- 20:56This guy was, in my opinion, a kid when I was first talking to
- 21:00him. Jack Dunlap and then made molds,
- 21:04produced them, and I was like what the actual fuck?
- 21:08Dude. Like that right there is
- 21:09somebody who is, I mean, in a sample size so large, there's
- 21:13like a one guy, I hate to pump his head up Jack, fuck you, but
- 21:18but it's always the same complaint.
- 21:22It's always like it's messy. It's it really?
- 21:26Is but it's. You know it's.
- 21:27Shitty. It really is shitty.
- 21:28It's messy. There's a lot of things that are
- 21:31not good for you as far as when you're working breathing shit
- 21:34in, but whatever it is, things take time.
- 21:38It's a really grueling like process and the money isn't
- 21:42amazing for selling these parts. When you consider how much time
- 21:46you're putting into each one, it makes sense why people charge so
- 21:49much for body. Kits when?
- 21:51I guarantee you if someone works on fiberglass shit on their own
- 21:55and they try to make something they're going to complete,
- 21:57they're going to understand why people charge what they charge
- 21:59dude for the fiberglass shit. Fibers all over your hands.
- 22:03You try to get them off in the shower.
- 22:04You get out of the shower, there's still fiberglass stuck
- 22:07to your. The fingers.
- 22:08You're like, OK, I'm going to go.
- 22:09Back in here to get these off it's not a fun time, but it's.
- 22:13I like it because it's rewarding you.
- 22:15You. You make something at the end,
- 22:17you get to look at it. You hold it, you're touching it.
- 22:20It exists. It's real.
- 22:22You've. Created something, I mean
- 22:24awesome. That's why I got so into this at
- 22:27the start. This craft was it was the most
- 22:32it was the most rewarding of feelings When I got something
- 22:36done and I made something, it was just ended.
- 22:41Not only did I make something, I made something that makes
- 22:44something look better. The car makes it look better
- 22:47when I'm making something exterior piece.
- 22:49So it was really a good feeling to do.
- 22:53And I'm like people would ask, they're like, oh, I really like
- 22:56this bumper. I like this rear bumper or the
- 22:58sides go to the wing, whatever the hell.
- 23:00And then they would ask. They're like, oh, where'd you
- 23:01get this from? And I'm like.
- 23:03I made it. I made it.
- 23:04I. Made it.
- 23:08They're like, what, How'd you make this?
- 23:09I'm like, you know, ain't no big deal.
- 23:11But like it was it's it's like a shallow feeling to feel good
- 23:17about it because you're like, yeah, I made it, but it is a
- 23:20good feeling. I know you made this shit.
- 23:23And as time goes on, when the shit you're making becomes
- 23:27better and better, you start to impress yourself.
- 23:30Like like I was never really big into making molds and all that
- 23:34stuff again. I I also like making stuff that
- 23:36are like one off specific for the customer.
- 23:38Just 'cause you like it, it's. Just my yeah.
- 23:40And like never really. I never had a goal of being mass
- 23:44market. Type thing.
- 23:46I don't really care about making many things and then selling it
- 23:49to many cars. I have limited runs of things
- 23:51but but like never permanent. I'm with that.
- 23:53It was just the specialness and I.
- 23:55I like the special part of it. Financially, it's not a good
- 23:58move for me. Let me just like of course damn
- 24:02on my money real quick. I'm going to put a cap on it
- 24:04just because it's cool, but it is what it is.
- 24:07You. Know.
- 24:10But. Making it is like I don't know
- 24:14when it's one off, especially when it's for the customer.
- 24:17Like sometimes I make things for customers and it's one off
- 24:21pieces and thankfully sometimes they look real good and it feels
- 24:26good when a possible customer, he reaches out and he's like,
- 24:30hey, I want that. And I'm like sorry dude.
- 24:33Like that was one off for this guy.
- 24:36And usually one day inquire about that.
- 24:38I take that screenshot and I send it to the guy that I made
- 24:41the shit for. I'm like, look at this.
- 24:42I'm like people are asking for it and like it feels good for
- 24:45the customers and to knowing I'm the only person with this piece
- 24:50or this accessory piece, whatever it may be.
- 24:53The customer themselves feel good because I know I would feel
- 24:57good if someone I took my car to and I respect his work and his
- 25:01opinion and he made something for my car and it's a one off
- 25:04piece. I would really like that.
- 25:06You know, that's that's everything we're doing.
- 25:10You want to be kind of original. And you and it, it's kind of
- 25:14speaks waves when somebody's proud of something.
- 25:17Yeah, yeah. It's like that thing is up to
- 25:21their standard of like, but you, you, you've achieved my like
- 25:27you, you achieved my liking like.
- 25:28I like that item enough for me to call it something that I
- 25:32made. Yeah, yeah.
- 25:33Yeah, and then like with making one off things too that I like
- 25:36now that, you know, it's less scary because I took that try.
- 25:42I've failed that try. I tried again.
- 25:46Now when I get to walk around sometimes you go to a car show
- 25:49where where like things that aren't even in your Ave. right,
- 25:53Like I think there was AFRS here last week, totally new car,
- 25:57different body style. I have the IS Oh, you're talking
- 25:59about. That you're talking about that
- 26:00new Gen. FRS?
- 26:02It doesn't. It doesn't even matter I'm I'm
- 26:03just using it as a It's a ZN 6 so like.
- 26:06O 2010 OK, OK, look at that body.
- 26:07OK, Yeah. This guy came in here.
- 26:10I'm so sorry, I forgot your name, but he was a fashion
- 26:12customer and he had these little, they were little stick
- 26:17on things on the hips of the car.
- 26:21They were just little things that accentuated the body line.
- 26:25And I'm looking at it for like 5 minutes or so and I'm thinking
- 26:28about how my car has a body line like that.
- 26:31So I took a picture of it. And then I went back.
- 26:34To my, I'm like one day if I can like make something here that
- 26:39can come up like that or shape it that way and then I got to go
- 26:43make it for the other side, which you've also highlighted.
- 26:46That is one of quite possibly the harder phase than making it.
- 26:51Yeah, yes, it's, it's making the second one.
- 26:54Making it is always the worst. Whenever I used to make flares
- 26:58or whatever, anything that involves 2, whether it be
- 27:00thunders, side skirts, whatever it may be, when you're making
- 27:03two of them, it sucks. It sucks.
- 27:05And of course, now there's ways around it.
- 27:08When? You.
- 27:09Could you could use CAD to make things and then you print it.
- 27:12You 3D printed, you use that to make the mold whatever using
- 27:15that stuff. No, I do I wish.
- 27:17I knew how. Forbid dude.
- 27:19God forbid. No, no, no, I don't.
- 27:21I don't like that stuff. Not that I'm talking down on it.
- 27:25I'm not like how we were just talking.
- 27:27Everyone has their own way of doing things.
- 27:28I'm not not talking down on it. It's it's the future.
- 27:32I think we spoke about this the last time.
- 27:34It is the future, but I'm a little bit old school when it
- 27:37comes to that shit. I like everything handmade.
- 27:40If that means that one side is not going to be completely on,
- 27:46it's going to be 99% compared to the other side because it's man
- 27:50made, I'm fine with that. I'm fine with the results
- 27:54knowing everything was handmade. I like that.
- 27:58I like handmade shit. So because I like it, I'm going
- 28:02to do it the way I want to do it, and I might end up being the
- 28:09only one that's doing it down the line because everyone is
- 28:12turning to that. Yeah.
- 28:13But again, I'm fine with that. I.
- 28:15Was worried you're going to go so I started using no no.
- 28:21No, no, no, no. No, no, you bite your tongue.
- 28:24No, no. No dude, 'cause I don't know.
- 28:26I I'm, I'm not the greatest with technology, but I'm also not the
- 28:28worst. Like I can.
- 28:30I know what's around me and what probably the capability of the
- 28:34tools around me. Are.
- 28:36Like that. Like, let's say you fucking scan
- 28:39that and it says you're off by a millimetre on, on this one
- 28:43angle. Yeah, yeah, easy peasy.
- 28:46But then it like, it like takes away the, the skill factor that
- 28:53differ, that differentiates some humans from other humans.
- 28:57You know what I mean? Dude?
- 28:57That's this person worked mad hard to get to where they were.
- 29:01And now the software takes away from that and it makes it.
- 29:04It levels it out, which is great.
- 29:06In turn, I don't. Know look, when you use that
- 29:08shit, I'm not saying now now everyone can do it.
- 29:12No, not every because it still requires skill to get the
- 29:14programs running and all that shit fine.
- 29:16But it's more of, I don't know, it's, I guess it's more
- 29:22accessible I guess because more people can do it because it
- 29:27doesn't require something to be made by hand.
- 29:29Something can be printed. I've literally I've seen 3D
- 29:34printed things then being used as a plug to make a mold and to
- 29:38do all that stuff and it comes out perfect.
- 29:40That's kind of. Perfect.
- 29:42Fine. Cool.
- 29:42No cool. You're using it to support.
- 29:45Cool, fine. Amazing.
- 29:47I'm not doing it. Amazing.
- 29:50I got my headlight and Vaseline. I'm gonna keep doing it.
- 29:54I got my ways and it works and as long as I can get to my end
- 30:01result, my goal, which is what I'm seeing, if I could get there
- 30:04and my skills allow me to get there, I'm good.
- 30:08I'm good, I'm happy. Yeah, there's so far I haven't
- 30:11hit a roadblock yet where I'm trying to build something where
- 30:15I envision and I'm like, shit, I can't do this because I'm not
- 30:19skilled enough to do it and I need now to do this.
- 30:21Thankfully I'm good. So I'll alter it a little bit.
- 30:24But to completely abandoned my roots of doing it by hand and to
- 30:28go to now the help of computers and machines?
- 30:31Oh, no. Absolutely.
- 30:32Not yeah, I don't think it's. I absolutely love not not I'll,
- 30:36I'll be such a hypocrite. It's just I like, I like working
- 30:39with with my hands. It's fun.
- 30:41I've always been doing it since I was very young.
- 30:44I was forced to work very early by my dad, very early, too early
- 30:48by my dad. So I was I was always working
- 30:51with my hands. So to feel like now I'm gonna
- 30:54sit at a desk and design something is so contradictory to
- 30:58what I'm used to my goal. So no, no computers and all
- 31:04that. I'm gonna stick away.
- 31:05When is AI gonna start painting cars?
- 31:07I don't do it. I saw already, it was so weird.
- 31:10I was, I, I always use this thing where people say AI is
- 31:15calling for everybody's jobs. I'm like.
- 31:17Yeah. AI can't fucking.
- 31:19Piss the car AI. Can't do that?
- 31:20It does. And then I see this video.
- 31:23See the video. Yeah, I see this video.
- 31:25It's at a convention, I don't know, some kind of convention
- 31:27for car shit, whatever. And it's this, it's this arms,
- 31:30robot arm. That's the video I see and it's.
- 31:32Just painting. It's painting now.
- 31:35Sure, it can probably do basic standard jobs.
- 31:39It's not going to be able to do advanced shit yet.
- 31:43It's going to get there eventually.
- 31:44But what if paint can sometimes do something different?
- 31:49What happens if they're spraying whereas me as a painter, if I
- 31:52see the even hear it or like you can kind of see it or feel it.
- 31:59I don't even fucking know differential pressure.
- 32:02The the gun is starting, the tip is starting to and then I'm like
- 32:06what the fuck is happening? Like a.
- 32:08Computer know that. How can the computer?
- 32:11Again I sound like a primitive thing.
- 32:12How can the computer know? The computer is going to know it
- 32:15knows, but how it addresses the problems and how it fixes it
- 32:19without having a person there to service and constantly address
- 32:22the errors that I don't know. I don't know.
- 32:24But like when I'm working though, I need to change it.
- 32:26Like when I'm spraying like some, I'm constantly adjusting
- 32:31the gun for whatever I need to do.
- 32:33And when I work, like when I'm spraying, I like I don't have a
- 32:36gauge on on my gun. I just go by sound.
- 32:40So like I know what it's supposed to sound like based on
- 32:43what I'm doing. Like yeah, this is all the
- 32:45gauges are professional. Like this is wild.
- 32:47I just go by it sounds right. It's good.
- 32:50I mean, it's good. The ones that paint cars in the
- 32:52factories are probably fucking nuts though.
- 32:55But if if you realize though, it's.
- 32:59Dipped or some shit. It's not, no, it's.
- 33:01Painted, but it's not good it. Comes out like ass sometimes.
- 33:05You realize, yeah, on modern cars, the paint is very texture.
- 33:10It's very peely, super duper not great.
- 33:12There's also a lot of paint that doesn't, it doesn't stick well.
- 33:17It there's like some kind of adhesion problems on those
- 33:20pickups and all that? Hyundai's got a bad problem.
- 33:23With it, yeah, yeah, I know there's a lot of issues with the
- 33:25newer cars. I know they're sprayed, but when
- 33:28those are sprayed, those are sprayed like bare shell type
- 33:31shit. You know, the panels are on and
- 33:33they're spraying this AI bot spraying thing.
- 33:36This was like, it was like fixing a door.
- 33:38It was like spraying like a door.
- 33:39Something that you could buy potentially.
- 33:41It's nuts. And I'm sure that those body
- 33:43shops that are making millions of dollars a month with all
- 33:46those shots, like they're gonna get that there's there's no way
- 33:50around, they're gonna get that equipment.
- 33:52OK, but what about prepping? How the hell is nothing?
- 33:56Going on. Man, how the hell is?
- 33:58That the next layer how is? It going to do that you're
- 34:01sanding something. You can hear if it's sanding or
- 34:03a sanding is something as. We never saw Terminator 2.
- 34:05That's the problem. As we just went over in the
- 34:07beginning, sanding is something that's pretty subjective.
- 34:12Yeah, right. Like it's situational.
- 34:15How is the machine going to do that?
- 34:16You need AI before the machine. And how's it going to touch it?
- 34:19How's it going to? But now AI is a real thing.
- 34:21It knows, dude. It knows it'll do it, dude.
- 34:24But back to the. Well, not back to the but AI,
- 34:29let's just say that bot spring, right?
- 34:32Like I always say, half of it is maybe not half maybe says maybe
- 34:3875% of it is the actual skill. OK, 25% of it is making choices.
- 34:45Now those choices are opinions based on how the car is being
- 34:48built, OK, to me, computer and AI, it can't make those opinions
- 34:53about what's going to look good and what's not.
- 34:56I just think that is going to be the strongest suit is the ideal
- 35:01creative mind on what's apply, how to apply it.
- 35:04So I think the ideas and the input on the build are going to
- 35:08be where people shine as far as they are even.
- 35:14Though it but what if they can do that one day that's.
- 35:16Terrifying. I'm going to be probably.
- 35:18Will. It probably will.
- 35:20That's that's what. I'm thinking I'm like it
- 35:21probably will be able to do that one day, I don't know when.
- 35:25It might, but for some reason I just feel like like, look, I'm,
- 35:30I'm pretty confident in my creative ability to make choices
- 35:35for it to I, I don't know, to maybe be better than other
- 35:41people. Like I'm trying to sound, I'm
- 35:43trying to sound modest about it. Look like we all have opinions
- 35:47on cars. We all do, right?
- 35:49I get paid for mine. OK, there's a difference.
- 35:52My opinion goes a little bit farther than the average person
- 35:56does. So the average person might be
- 35:58just a computer that when it's it's AI, takes general
- 36:02information about what's right. What I do might not be general
- 36:06information about what's to be done.
- 36:09It might be unconventional, it might be whatever.
- 36:12So my opinion I think is gonna be the cutting edge for the
- 36:15future. I get what you're saying with
- 36:16that, and I do agree I don't think that AI will be able to.
- 36:21It might be able to be its own individual.
- 36:23General information. But it's.
- 36:24Just general information, that's really.
- 36:26All it is, it is right now. It's general inflation.
- 36:28It's Google on stereos. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 36:30So I mean to be able to take it one step farther and know, know
- 36:34what's right. Like when I do full overall
- 36:37builds, like I have something on my invoice that says I have the
- 36:41right to stop the job at any time for any creative choices
- 36:46that I don't agree with. That's smart.
- 36:48And it, it just has to, because I have to have input on
- 36:52everything going on in this build.
- 36:53If it's a full overall build, 'cause my name is on it and
- 36:57that's why they're coming to me, because they want me doing the
- 37:00car. So if it's me doing the car, me
- 37:01doing the input, I need to make those choices.
- 37:05So those opinions and those choices kind of separate from
- 37:09other people, whether it be other people doing the same work
- 37:12or computers trying to make cars look good.
- 37:15You know. You don't have to name names,
- 37:16but have you done that before where you had to stop?
- 37:18Of course. I was going to say.
- 37:20That there. For a reason.
- 37:21There was one, I'm trying to explain the story without outing
- 37:25the customer, but it happened many times.
- 37:28But there was this one time I was doing the car.
- 37:29I'm not even going to say the car.
- 37:31So there was one time I was doing this car and he said I
- 37:34want flares like on all four sides.
- 37:36Like I want all the metal work, I want the whole 9, I want to do
- 37:39whatever. And I was like, yeah, sure.
- 37:41Absolutely. So worked out a time, worked out
- 37:44a budget, worked out a deal, everything fine.
- 37:46And the way I like to do things as far as bills, I don't like to
- 37:49take a lot of of a cash upfront. I don't like to take, I like to
- 37:52take a small, small amount upfront because I feel like if
- 37:57if you give me too much now you kind of you.
- 38:00Have the power. On me.
- 38:02How's my car doing? How's my car doing?
- 38:03How's my card? We do the same thing.
- 38:05No dude, no dude take a small amount so we're we're always
- 38:08good or even. So I was like Nah man, I don't
- 38:10want much. He said no, no I want to put
- 38:11down something. I said no, no, no it's fine,
- 38:13it's fine. Thankfully he said no, just take
- 38:16this. I said OK, fine, I'll take it.
- 38:18I again, I usually don't like to, so I start the car and I
- 38:22said, OK, let me start on the front end first because when
- 38:24you're doing flares on the front end, it's not permanent to the
- 38:27car. I'm not.
- 38:27You can take the fenders off. I can.
- 38:29Take the fenders off. I can take the front bumper off.
- 38:31And when it comes to 4 door cars, when you're doing flares,
- 38:34you're not only doing the fenders on the quarters, you're
- 38:36going into the bumpers. So it requires the plastic work
- 38:38on the bumpers, the whole 9, the whole 9.
- 38:41So this was like a full job. So it was a four door car and I
- 38:45start doing the flares right. And again, I think the flares
- 38:48look good. This is a subjective business.
- 38:51It's all opinions. Who's to say what's right?
- 38:54I think it looks good. So I followed the body lines.
- 38:57The shit looked, it looked as good as it can be for the car.
- 39:01So I start posting pics and he's like, yeah, yeah, it's cool.
- 39:05It's cool, it's cool. And obviously if you guys see, I
- 39:07post a lot. Once a car comes in, I ask the
- 39:11customer, I said is it okay to post?
- 39:13Absolutely cool. I'm posting the whole time and
- 39:15he's fine with it. So I'm doing it doing doing.
- 39:18I finish all the metal work, finish all the body work.
- 39:21And I was like, you know what, let me just prime the whole
- 39:23front end. It'll be done and then and then
- 39:24I'll start working on the rear. I like, I like to cross like
- 39:27things off. So I was like, OK, at least like
- 39:29the front will be done. He could come and see the front
- 39:32and you know, I'm used to people walking in and seeing things
- 39:37I've done and they're like. Whoa, shit, dog.
- 39:41Yeah. And I like that.
- 39:42That's half the reason why I'm doing it short.
- 39:44The money's fine, but I like to hear that.
- 39:46So like we're like walking in. I'm like, yo, you ready to see
- 39:50this shit, dude? He's like, oh, am I ready to see
- 39:53this? I'm like, you ready?
- 39:54He's like, oh, I'm ready. So I'm not, I'm like hyping him
- 39:56up, you know, I'm like, yo, you're not ready to see this.
- 39:59So then I open up the door and he's like looking at it.
- 40:00He's like, well, you know, And look, I take, I take criticism
- 40:12very bad. Very bad, Very bad.
- 40:15OK. Very bad.
- 40:17And. It's it's a big weakness of
- 40:20mine. You know, it's fine and I know
- 40:23it's a weakness. I'm working on it, you know.
- 40:25So he was like, he was like, oh, you know, can you take this line
- 40:28and round it off? Can you take this and do this?
- 40:29I was like, hey dude, this ain't fucking Build-a-bear, man.
- 40:33I was like. All right, You're not gonna, you
- 40:34know, come in here and adjust everything and do this.
- 40:36I was like, no, you came to me for a reason and that's what it
- 40:39is. And then he started showing me
- 40:41pictures of these other. Cars.
- 40:42Oh my. God, and I'm like, bro, why are
- 40:44you showing me pictures of lambos and shit?
- 40:47This is a 4 door car. What are you talking about?
- 40:49He's like, oh, I'd like I want it to look like this.
- 40:52So I'm like brother, look tomorrow he's like, yeah, I'm
- 40:56like come pick up your car. He went what?
- 40:58I'm like, dude, you signed invoice, you signed everything.
- 41:00I don't agree with this. Whatever you want to do to this
- 41:02car, you do it. I don't want my name to to be on
- 41:06it. You pay up to what I did.
- 41:07I was like, I don't want to do the rest.
- 41:09I was. I'm sorry.
- 41:10Yeah. What do you mean?
- 41:10I was like, no, dude, if you don't let me do what I want to
- 41:13do, it's done. He said, well, I figured we
- 41:16could kind of work and we could kind of figure out what looks
- 41:18best. No, I know what looks best.
- 41:21You don't know what looks best. I do this for a living, brother.
- 41:25I literally do this for a living.
- 41:27I mean, it's I. Know what looks good?
- 41:28It's in the terms, you know, Yeah.
- 41:30Yeah, it's right there. And he said, he said, OK, he
- 41:35goes, I'll take it. I said, OK, fine.
- 41:36Yeah. But it's happened many times
- 41:38where a car, I kind of had to stop the build because it just
- 41:43started going left. But when I started to be a
- 41:46little bit more strict on my vetting process for what job I
- 41:50accept, the percentage rate of cars that had to leave because
- 41:55of that went down. So.
- 41:57Much, thank God so. Much because I vet them out so
- 42:00much I know we're on the same page people think it's just
- 42:03based on the car it might be the car short, but half of it is
- 42:06also the customer as well. I need to make sure you're not
- 42:09like somebody crazy, you know, That's like gonna really give me
- 42:12a headache. That's more.
- 42:13I mean, that guy caught you off guard too, because he was
- 42:15posting it and sharing it and you thought.
- 42:17Yeah, man, it's like and like we spoke on the phone.
- 42:20I'm like, hey, I did this. He goes, oh, it's looking great,
- 42:22looking great. And.
- 42:23Then. He sees it in person.
- 42:24He must, someone must have gotten his ear or something and
- 42:26then and then been like, oh, I hate that.
- 42:28I hate when that happens, man. It's just like the worst one.
- 42:32They have their friends that come and they look at dude.
- 42:34I've had times where like like I finish a car and the car look
- 42:39great. I'm like, this shit looks hot
- 42:41and then the guy comes to pick up his car, but he comes with
- 42:43his boys. Here we go.
- 42:46So he comes with I'm like, I know what the hell this is going
- 42:49to be right? And you spend all your time, you
- 42:52make the car look as good as good as possible.
- 42:55You lose sleep over it. You're thinking about it in the
- 42:57shower, you're eating, you're thinking about it.
- 42:59Everything is about the car. Your whole life is about the
- 43:01car. So then he comes to pick it up.
- 43:04And you know, you kind of want to see something back from that.
- 43:07This dude comes in and all of his friends start looking
- 43:10underneath. They start feeling like like
- 43:12they start feeling under the panels to feel for runs, to feel
- 43:16if anything is dry, to feel if something hasn't been sanded
- 43:18yet. And I'm like, dude, let's just
- 43:22say you spot a bad right? The way you handle this is
- 43:25horrible. The car looks good.
- 43:26Let's say I did 10 things right and nine things were good.
- 43:29You're looking for that one bad thing.
- 43:31And that usually happens when they come with their boys.
- 43:34For some reason, the boys want to feel like a hero for spotting
- 43:37something out that he might not not have spotted out.
- 43:40And I see that happen all the time.
- 43:42And I have no problem saying, dude, your boys got to go, man.
- 43:46It's it's me and you. We got to talk.
- 43:47But they're not paying the bill. They're not doing anything.
- 43:50That shit is so annoying. I hate, I hate when they do that
- 43:53and listen, I and also I've had times where it was an amazing
- 43:57experience where they've come with friends and friends were
- 43:59like, oh, it's really nice, amazing.
- 44:02I will. I want you to do my car fine,
- 44:03cool. But when they want to come in,
- 44:06they just want to start tearing apart the.
- 44:09Bill immediately, right? I had a customer that came by
- 44:12with his dad once and Oh my God yo his dad was like going crazy
- 44:19on. Me, the dad was the dad was
- 44:23going. Crazy about?
- 44:24About what? I'm trying to share the story
- 44:28with again without without. So he's like what you're the
- 44:31quality of the work or something like something?
- 44:33So there was something lost in. Translation.
- 44:37Yeah, about how something to be done.
- 44:40So, so when when they came to pick up the car, they came with
- 44:45the they they came with the the dad, the kid came with with the
- 44:48dad. And the dad was like, what the
- 44:51fuck is this? Like, I'm sorry, can I curse?
- 44:54Can I curse? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 44:56I apologize, I'm cursed on here. No, it's.
- 44:57I'm within a minute. I'm sorry, I was sitting down.
- 45:01You're fine. This.
- 45:02Is a safe. Space.
- 45:03This is a safe space. We have name no names.
- 45:07And I'm I'm ready. You have a right?
- 45:08To. I'm really trying to not.
- 45:09You have a right to share you're we're.
- 45:11About to start unleashing shit too, Frankie.
- 45:13Probably runs into this. I'm probably going to toss into
- 45:16my bad experience with my customer like it happens and SO.
- 45:20Many bad experiences. But The thing is.
- 45:23It's the way you handle it and the way you step forward from it
- 45:26because, like, you're still here.
- 45:28Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, those things are so
- 45:31stressful though, because like this work is so important to me
- 45:36as people's work to whatever to whoever their work is so
- 45:41important to them that we take it personal.
- 45:44So when something like that happens when a customer isn't
- 45:48happy or the where the car leaves and like an hour after
- 45:53you get a call or a text from the customer, that's never a
- 45:55good thing was when the customer calls a text like right after,
- 45:58you know, and like you see that and like your heart skips a beat
- 46:01and you feel so, so shit and like you hear the customer
- 46:03complain. You just feel so bad about
- 46:07yourself and that you wish you could have done better and you
- 46:10become very hard on yourself. And it is a hard feeling.
- 46:13But that same feeling, there's also a superpower to how people
- 46:18get to where they are because you care so much.
- 46:20Dude. Because I care so much that it
- 46:23might get me there, but at the same time it's a double edged
- 46:25sword that when those things happen, they fucking hurt, man.
- 46:29They fucking hurt. It hurts.
- 46:31Yeah. Yeah, it.
- 46:32Hurts that happened to me on car #5 the kid came, he was really
- 46:38happy about dropping it off. I send pictures.
- 46:41I always try to keep that line of communication open.
- 46:44We have technology now. If you can reach out to me of.
- 46:46Course, that's fine. Yeah, yeah.
- 46:47Just don't tell me what you're fucking eating for dinner.
- 46:49I don't care. Just keep it about the pain.
- 46:51Yeah. Yeah, and then da da, da kept.
- 46:55I always disclose, especially since I'm new.
- 46:57Hey, I'm new. Just know I might make a mistake
- 47:01or two, but I'm going to show you the mistakes.
- 47:03I'll tell you how I'm going about the mistakes and I'm gonna
- 47:05fix. Them.
- 47:05Yeah, yeah. Car came.
- 47:07Out. You're honest.
- 47:08And I have to. I'm new.
- 47:10No, no, I can't hide anything. It's.
- 47:12The best because when they when they go on with what you said,
- 47:19it's like you don't have anything to prove because if
- 47:21something screws up or messes up, you already addressed the
- 47:24fact that you're learning. So and if they agreed with that
- 47:26as well, you're good. I know, but then you're good.
- 47:30I sprayed it. It was It was a color that is
- 47:33hard to. What color?
- 47:36It would be so obvious. Yeah, I see, I see.
- 47:39Yeah, OK, what does the color rhyme with but the?
- 47:45Good thing you caught yourself, Carl, because I would have just
- 47:46said it. The the.
- 47:50I see I. See the the car came out it to
- 47:53mine like. It is really it's it's a shit
- 47:57color. It's a shit color.
- 47:58It covers like fuck. It was my first time painting
- 48:00that color and they were reiterating, reiterating to me.
- 48:04It didn't have to be perfect. The job was cheap.
- 48:07I They kept saying that to me. I.
- 48:08Pay the I I charge people cheap 'cause it's I'm new, I want to
- 48:12get. I need prices or no?
- 48:14Yeah, I I charged them 1600 to do the whole car.
- 48:18Wow. Yeah.
- 48:20Carl's paying a lot of drift cars.
- 48:21But I wanna like, I want people to willingly drop it off to me
- 48:26so I can learn. I make maybe like a couple 100
- 48:29bucks on it and I spend hours. Even if.
- 48:32You made nothing, even if you made nothing.
- 48:35I tell people all the time, people again the the I tell the
- 48:39people that work for me. I tell them all.
- 48:41I cannot say it enough experience Go out there and get
- 48:45jobs even if you're not getting paid off of it.
- 48:47Dude, you're working on this thing.
- 48:49You all your expenses are being paid for.
- 48:52You're getting paid to learn. You're doing it.
- 48:53That's it. And if and if the customer's OK
- 48:56with you being new, who cares? Do it.
- 48:58Yeah, I dude, I did how much shit for making no money at all,
- 49:03but it adds to your portfolio of shit to sell to the next job.
- 49:08Like, hey, here's what I did Boom, boom, boom XYZ did this
- 49:10and then here's why. Now I'm I'm going to charge you
- 49:13this much because I did this. It just adds to your to your
- 49:16portfolio. After that and after, you know,
- 49:20literally everything you just said that happens with a bad
- 49:23transaction happened. Nice.
- 49:25They picked it up the the reaction that I wanted wasn't
- 49:29there that I usually got prior. But you shouldn't be looking
- 49:33for. That reaction I shouldn't and
- 49:35that's why I was like, I'm OK. An exchange of money for the
- 49:39rest happened and then an hour later I get a call or a text
- 49:43saying that he had a friend look at it.
- 49:46Always a friend. Always.
- 49:47A friend, my heart, but I could. Just put myself in the.
- 49:50Desk but the problem is is yes it sent me through like a damn.
- 49:55I kind of tried a little hard on it.
- 49:57It didn't come out great, but the conditions that I painted
- 49:59are horrible. I can look at this so many
- 50:02different ways. Obviously I was like damn, like
- 50:06I guess he really didn't like it that much and then what can I
- 50:10do? I want to do as right as I could
- 50:14possibly do. So what was he asking for?
- 50:16He was asking to just be charged for the materials which I only
- 50:19charged him for the paint but not like brother you should've
- 50:23stand paid. $1600 How much? What are you talking about?
- 50:26My my. The how?
- 50:27Much more can you take? Away $1600 I.
- 50:30Refunded him for the paint. Just the paint.
- 50:33I didn't refund them. Carl lost on this one.
- 50:35I didn't refund them. For my sandpaper or the DAS that
- 50:39I had to buy because I was sanding like literally until the
- 50:42Sander would just get so fucking hot because I use these electric
- 50:45ones that they were breaking. So then I was sanding.
- 50:48It yeah, we need to get you in there when.
- 50:50It doesn't, it didn't, it doesn't.
- 50:53Like none of that ever gets translated.
- 50:55So no. I refunded them the money.
- 50:57I lost some I learned a lot good and then after that one, even
- 51:04after I had many people go and go like, hey, this guy is like
- 51:08posting this on the Internet. I'm like, I don't really care.
- 51:10I did all I can do on my end. You.
- 51:12Posted about it, yeah. To make me feel.
- 51:16To make me feel like I did what I can do to make that it's OK
- 51:21Not everybody's going to be happy with my work. $1500 but
- 51:26what the hell is he going to get out of?
- 51:27That The thing is, is at the end of the day, like I just wanted
- 51:29to make sure that I did what I could have done it.
- 51:32Looks like you did everything you could have done.
- 51:34Yeah. But in the end of the again he
- 51:36just said end of the day a bunch of times because in conclusion,
- 51:40no matter what that person can say that I'm a shit bag and like
- 51:45I didn't do right by him or. Something.
- 51:46But but here's the thing, like all those things you said, it
- 51:50wasn't a paint place or it wasn't whatever.
- 51:51Those are all excuses. Yeah, let's just be honest.
- 51:54Like those are all excuses. Totally.
- 51:55It doesn't matter all that. The fact of the matter is you
- 51:59need to learn and get better. That's it.
- 52:01So then I took everything down. I took.
- 52:03I stopped taking in work after that.
- 52:05I made plans to get a better booth.
- 52:08Wait, what do you mean you took everything down?
- 52:10Like my like my setup. I redid everything because I was
- 52:14like I'm going to make these way.
- 52:15Better, OK. It took like a it took a day or
- 52:19two for me to be like, why did that come out like shit?
- 52:22Yeah. Why didn't it come out the way
- 52:24that I wanted it to? Easy.
- 52:26Like I'm I'm and I'm sorry, I don't want sound fucked up.
- 52:28No, but it didn't because you're not that good.
- 52:31That's fine, I need to get you. Need to get better.
- 52:34That's it. That's all there, which is
- 52:36amazing and the fact that you know, you learned with this, you
- 52:39got to do a car that you got that you got paid for and all
- 52:42that stuff is fine and amazing. But I I'm sure I'm 100% sure
- 52:48everything that you fucked up on on that job.
- 52:51I bet you you're not going to do.
- 52:52It for the next job. Never again.
- 52:54So worth it. I fucked up so many jobs and I
- 52:56won't do the same things I do on the following job.
- 52:59And I and I just think to myself, OK, whatever I went
- 53:02through, it was a lesson. Yeah, it was a lesson.
- 53:05And I think I learned, I think I learned a guy for that.
- 53:07Because honestly, could have been worse.
- 53:10Could have been way worse. I mean that that is pretty bad
- 53:12though. But.
- 53:13It is like it is, but thankfully like.
- 53:17But did you, did you tell Kay about how I'm pretty sure you
- 53:21said I'll redo whatever? Yeah, I did.
- 53:24I usually. Offered to redo everything.
- 53:26Yeah, you guys said no, Yeah, OK.
- 53:28So right there, that's already like.
- 53:29No, no good. That's fine.
- 53:30Take it, take it somewhere else. It's it's it was clean.
- 53:34Hopefully they got what they needed in the end with their
- 53:38vision of what the car wanted to be.
- 53:40But I continued on and I took it fucking personally, Yeah.
- 53:44Yeah, yeah. I, I, I fucking I.
- 53:46Completely took it. Personally, I got I did my
- 53:49homework with everything and now I'm just, I had to sit there and
- 53:53reflect what I was doing wrong, what I'm not going to do
- 53:55anymore, how I'm going to make my new quote UN quote boots set
- 53:58up a little bit better with what I have and then just keep upping
- 54:04the fuck out of the result. Yeah, he he name dropped you on
- 54:07the Internet when he when he wrote about it.
- 54:09No. OK.
- 54:10I was going to say if he did that then I would definitely.
- 54:12Take it personally. No, no, no, but but.
- 54:14Here's the thing, I am not afraid of it and I told that
- 54:18person like if anybody asks you who painted it, tell them
- 54:23because I and then also tell them that I'm working on it
- 54:26because it's never going to look like that.
- 54:29I would have. Just said that's asshole moves
- 54:31man. That the guy that posted about
- 54:33that, he shouldn't have posted about that especially.
- 54:35He shouldn't name my name. After everything, it doesn't.
- 54:36Matter. It doesn't matter.
- 54:38You saying you're new is enough. That was it.
- 54:41That was the. That's it.
- 54:42I got to look at it. You know what's the learning
- 54:44curve? I've got to look at it too,
- 54:46because I'm I'm a consumer too. You're looking at it in a great
- 54:51way. I'm a consumer too, and if I
- 54:53left my car with somebody, I'd want it the way that I thought
- 54:58it was going, of course. So I was just trying to be as
- 55:01neutral as I possibly could be from somebody who typically
- 55:05isn't like that. I'm trying to be the business
- 55:08owner that I want to be. I want to be this.
- 55:10I want to be faction. I want to be super life.
- 55:12I want to be. You saying a business owner?
- 55:14So is this going to be a thing? I've been messing around with I
- 55:18like, I like the processes that I go through.
- 55:21I like running things the way I like to run it.
- 55:25I like planning my week the way I got laid off in December.
- 55:28Laid off in December. What were you doing?
- 55:32I worked a office job for the past two years since since we
- 55:35went on our pod. I was working at an office.
- 55:39I'd go there 9 to 49 to 3:30 depending on what the work's
- 55:43looking like. Jet home, get out of my work
- 55:46clothes, my like business casual.
- 55:48Oh, and. Then start.
- 55:49Paint suit 5 to 10 right away. Good.
- 55:52Yeah, he was working a lot. Look, when when I was when I was
- 55:56working for my dad just back in my 20s, I was.
- 56:00So like last week, I know I'm I'm I'm like that has a little.
- 56:05Kiss for you. There you go.
- 56:08Wait, you know when I walked in, you said I'd change it?
- 56:11You. You mean I got fat?
- 56:12Or so you're thin. Where the fuck is the?
- 56:14Rest you did. You did like.
- 56:15What you. Did you know what it is?
- 56:17Let me tell. Him, what it actually is is your
- 56:19hair. No, the my hair.
- 56:22My hair was cut the last time, Yeah.
- 56:24'Cause your long hair was like I.
- 56:25Have my dreads. Yeah, yeah.
- 56:26I don't have my DID. You lose weight or no?
- 56:28Yes, he had. A no, that's what a rude
- 56:31question. I don't know.
- 56:33No, no, Because when I walked in and after I thought about it,
- 56:35I'm like, wait a minute. I'm like, did I get fucking fat?
- 56:39No, The work is absolutely all, all wild.
- 56:42But back then in my, when I was around 20, I think I was still
- 56:46living with my parents. I was 2526.
- 56:48I would work with my dad. It was 9:00 in the morning to
- 56:52seven at night. I would come home at 7, come
- 56:55home, eat, go out and I'd go outside.
- 56:58My dad built me this little spot to work in the back like this
- 57:01small shed and had like a fan and shit inside everything for
- 57:04all the dust and everything. I'll be out there from 8:00 to
- 57:06midnight fire. Oh this one continue on for so
- 57:10long now. Those days when I was in them,
- 57:14it was like Oh my God, like I just want my own place.
- 57:17I want to do this. I want to be doing these cars I
- 57:19was working on shit. Now when I think back at those
- 57:22days, man, what good days those were like those come up days
- 57:25like everyone I love like the come up story.
- 57:28The come up story is so cool. And when I was doing it, when I
- 57:33was working the day with my dad and working at night and then I
- 57:36would do this and then I was an apprentice, I would have to
- 57:38drive from Brooklyn to Jersey every single day and I would do
- 57:43it for like $300.00 a week. And I did, I did that for years
- 57:48and I would just continue on, continue on.
- 57:50I'm like it's going to pay off. It has to hard work always pays
- 57:55off and one day it's going to, but putting in those hours
- 58:00always pays off, always whatever you have to do.
- 58:03It's just sometimes obviously you don't want to you're you're
- 58:08freaking tired. You just came home from working.
- 58:10But we don't forget that this shit that we're doing, it's fun.
- 58:16We want to do it. Yeah, I was going to say we want
- 58:19no one's making us to. Do it shit.
- 58:20No, like like like I'm fully aware that what I'm doing on a
- 58:25day-to-day basis is what other people think about on their free
- 58:29time. And I'm very fortunate for that.
- 58:32We should be fortunate for for that.
- 58:34It's an amazing feeling that I get to do this shit and get paid
- 58:40for it. So man, it's just the hours when
- 58:45putting them in were tough. But again, when you get to it
- 58:48and you see the, then you see the results on where it gets
- 58:52you, you look back and you're like, oh, that shit was worth
- 58:54it. That how long do you think
- 58:56before you, I know you, this is a hard one to answer.
- 58:59How long during that process, how many years do you think went
- 59:03by before you were like, I think I kind of know what I'm doing a
- 59:06little bit now. No, I, I think you know what a
- 59:09big curse is, is I forgot what the theory is called.
- 59:15But there's a theory that explains the better you get at
- 59:21something, and the more you start to learn about something,
- 59:25the more you understand how much you don't know.
- 59:28So you still think you don't know anything?
- 59:29I think I don't know shit. I tell people.
- 59:31I think I don't know. Shit, I mean.
- 59:32It's a good, it's a good way to keep.
- 59:34It's a good mentality. It's really because like there
- 59:37was this one time I, I, I had this friend that used to work
- 59:40for me, his name was Matt. And I asked him one time he's he
- 59:44was working for me for like, let's say a year at that point.
- 59:47And he was talking about his skill level.
- 59:50And then I asked him, I was like, hey, man, I was like, I'm
- 59:53just curious. I was like if you had to put
- 59:55your skill on a scale from zero to 10, from zero to 10. 0.
- 1:00:03Being the worst 10, being a master.
- 1:00:06I said, where do you think you're at and where do you think
- 1:00:09that I'm at? And then he sat there.
- 1:00:11I said, you're going to tell me right away.
- 1:00:12I don't want to instant. I was like, think about it for a
- 1:00:14while and then I want you to to come back and then I want you to
- 1:00:18tell me. He said OK, fine.
- 1:00:20So he's working. He's working.
- 1:00:21He's working in about about one hour passes and then he comes
- 1:00:23back to me. He's like, all right.
- 1:00:24He goes, I'm ready. I'm all right.
- 1:00:26I'm all right. He's like, all right.
- 1:00:27I took a lot into account of what I know.
- 1:00:29I know how to send. I know he's just naming things,
- 1:00:31right. So I'm like Matt, I'm like,
- 1:00:33what's the number? So he goes, I think I'm like A5.
- 1:00:36He goes, I think you're like a nine.
- 1:00:38I was like, OK, I was like, that's what you think he's like,
- 1:00:41yeah. I'm like, all right.
- 1:00:42I'm like, do you wanna know? I'm like, do you wanna know what
- 1:00:44I think he's like, yeah. I'm like, OK, please don't be
- 1:00:46offended. He goes, OK, fine.
- 1:00:48So I say I don't think you're even a 1.
- 1:00:51And I say I would say me. At that point in time, I'm about
- 1:00:54a four. As long as you didn't.
- 1:00:57Give yourself the 10 I'm. Fine.
- 1:00:58What do you mean as 10 is a master?
- 1:01:01Yeah, 10 is a master and I've only been doing it for 10 years.
- 1:01:04How can I be a ten? Yeah, how can somebody be a
- 1:01:07master that five? So he put himself out of five.
- 1:01:10That would mean he's halfway to being a master at one year.
- 1:01:13If you boil down the scale 1/2. No, no one. 1:00 to 2:00 to 1
- 1:01:19patient. It's completely, I would say
- 1:01:22like I, I, I would say still now, still now I'm 4-5, still
- 1:01:27still easy and I'm still learning, I'm still getting
- 1:01:30better and. But a 4-5 getting better, a four
- 1:01:32or five is. A four or five on my scale.
- 1:01:34Yes. Is that means you're comfortable
- 1:01:40taking people's money and doing this for a living?
- 1:01:42Oh I hate what I put out, dude. That is it.
- 1:01:46It. It is.
- 1:01:47No. I love what I.
- 1:01:49Said recently. Recently, it's been getting
- 1:01:53better. Thank God.
- 1:01:54Recently, it's been getting better.
- 1:01:55Recently and what the OK? Recently, recently, I would say
- 1:01:59maybe like recently, maybe the past year I've been really I I
- 1:02:05like what did. You put out that you because
- 1:02:08this you're thinking of something.
- 1:02:10So not anything specifically, but I'm thinking about a
- 1:02:13timeline because I know times where I was hard on myself for
- 1:02:17when cars would leave, right? When cars would leave, I would
- 1:02:21finish the car, I would take it outside, I'd wash the car, and I
- 1:02:25couldn't look at the car again. I couldn't look at it.
- 1:02:27As you were too many hours on it or because you.
- 1:02:29Don't like it Too many imperfections that I could have
- 1:02:31been better at and I know things I should have done better and I
- 1:02:35was like shit when I had to either go X or Yi can't believe
- 1:02:38I went Yi shouldn't want X, right?
- 1:02:39So after I wash a car and I'm done with it, I either I can't
- 1:02:42look at it again or I would finish the car and I would bag
- 1:02:45it. I would put like a big sheet
- 1:02:46over it just so I don't look at it again because it would hurt
- 1:02:48me. So I don't know what it is now
- 1:02:53that I like like I recently, maybe last year I did this FD
- 1:02:59and I really, I really like the way everything came out.
- 1:03:03And it felt so weird stepping back from my own work going like
- 1:03:07oh. Wow, stood.
- 1:03:09Like wow this looks good. And it was so weird for me
- 1:03:11because I usually step back and go oh God why do I suck?
- 1:03:18Why am? I doing.
- 1:03:19This like it's just so it's just so rough.
- 1:03:22So in recent years, maybe, you know, I don't know if it has to
- 1:03:27do with now. Now I'm a father and I'm a new
- 1:03:32father and. Congratulations.
- 1:03:34Thank you. Thank you very much.
- 1:03:36Super Dad I. Was going to say maybe I have
- 1:03:38something with you being a father.
- 1:03:39I think it does, because back then this was every.
- 1:03:44It still is everything to me. But it was who I am.
- 1:03:48It wasn't what I did. Now it's what I do and I know
- 1:03:52it's not the most important. That's.
- 1:03:55FD. That's FD.
- 1:03:56And what did you do here? You did the wide body.
- 1:03:58I did so much shit on dude man. Look, I tinted the carbon green
- 1:04:04right? So now.
- 1:04:07Yeah. I tinted the carbon.
- 1:04:09Okay, now I'm probably gonna stutter a lot more because when
- 1:04:12I get excited I stutter a lot more.
- 1:04:14But yeah, I did everything on this.
- 1:04:16The whole car is 2 tone. I did like multiple colors going
- 1:04:21all the way into the engine Bay. Everything painted inside and
- 1:04:24out. Like it's hard to show but like
- 1:04:27inside the headlight cover is. Darker.
- 1:04:30Is to color inside that additional piece for the front
- 1:04:34bumper. Inside that piece is a secondary
- 1:04:37color. There's just secondary colors
- 1:04:39everywhere inside the Bay. I've made like the strut towers
- 1:04:42a secondary color and like see like inside the vents is a
- 1:04:45secondary color. It's RX8 vent and I mean the
- 1:04:47blinker. Yes, yes, yes it is.
- 1:04:50That's crazy. So and like with this, I think
- 1:04:52like back then I would pick bad color choices.
- 1:04:55This I've been starting to like a a mono style of what?
- 1:05:01Now I like the secondary color thing secondary and like, I like
- 1:05:04that a lot. I.
- 1:05:06Like that always, I would always try to pick wild contrasting
- 1:05:10colors. Now realizing my realizing
- 1:05:14myself, I like mono color theme. So with this, it was shades of
- 1:05:19green, all different shades of green, where it doesn't stick
- 1:05:23out so much, but you know, it's a different color and like
- 1:05:26usually someone would go opposite, complete opposite to
- 1:05:29see where it stands out. No, I like to let it really sink
- 1:05:32in. And as you start to go through
- 1:05:34the car, you start to find all the stuff.
- 1:05:37Why? Why the photo of the inside of
- 1:05:39the door? Just to see the door jamb?
- 1:05:40Or is there something going on there too?
- 1:05:42No, just because. How nice.
- 1:05:43Yeah, yeah, it does look nice. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:05:45But because stuff like that when one, yeah, you see even on the
- 1:05:49mirrors, even on the mirrors and everything that is.
- 1:05:52Emerald Zone. So that color is AR 34 jade.
- 1:06:01Yeah, exactly. And then the the secondary color
- 1:06:05is a Mopar color. It's a like a dark green.
- 1:06:09I forgot what the color name was, but it worked really good.
- 1:06:12I spent so long putting the color on.
- 1:06:14The Swatch. Yeah, OK.
- 1:06:15I was. Like my, my paint, my paint guy
- 1:06:18is really good. My my lighting supplier, he
- 1:06:23knows I'm really annoying with shit.
- 1:06:25So when I'm trying to look for a certain hue, I don't have books.
- 1:06:28I'm like yo I need this certain shade, send me a bunch and he'll
- 1:06:30send me different swatches and I'll match up to the car to see
- 1:06:34what what works well and that's what I ended up with.
- 1:06:37I went with a couple different combos until I landed on this.
- 1:06:41That little note that you just made right there how you like
- 1:06:45doing mono color builds is a note.
- 1:06:49That's one of them little notes that I note like I just noted
- 1:06:53that. I noted I wrote down secondary
- 1:06:56color on details quote, quote FD super life.
- 1:06:59So then I could go like reference it back because that
- 1:07:02you remember 10 seconds to share versus years of you growing.
- 1:07:06That would have taken me a long time to be like, yeah, yeah,
- 1:07:09yeah. My taste would have had to
- 1:07:10evolve into that. And you see all of this like
- 1:07:14when when the customer came to me, the original idea was the
- 1:07:19car was going to be purple. No.
- 1:07:21And I'm like purple no, no, I'm like brother, no.
- 1:07:25So I changed up everything and like I'm like, dude, please
- 1:07:27don't think I'm taking over the build, but I don't have anything
- 1:07:30to gain from your car looking good or bad, but just please
- 1:07:33trust me. And he said OK, fine.
- 1:07:35I was like, well, I'm changing everything up.
- 1:07:37So it changed it all up. And afterwards he was like, oh.
- 1:07:40It's pretty crazy. I love it.
- 1:07:42The customer let you change the color of the car completely.
- 1:07:45It's. On the invoice.
- 1:07:46Thankfully. How's it going?
- 1:07:47It's there. It's.
- 1:07:49On there voice I really hate dark purples because he wanted
- 1:07:51like a dark purple. But I like dark purple.
- 1:07:54There's certain colors I don't like, and if I don't like it, I
- 1:07:57choose not. It's a.
- 1:07:58Small car though so I don't know if I would want.
- 1:08:00I think purple could look good, but this green isn't.
- 1:08:02It makes the car looks. Even green, The green works.
- 1:08:06I mean, Millennium Jade is. So, OK, so during this car, my
- 1:08:11wife was pregnant and then I had my son while I was doing this
- 1:08:16car. So I consider this car like the
- 1:08:18start of a new phase of work because like like how I was
- 1:08:23explaining when I became a dad, it became not less caring of the
- 1:08:28work, but more like, hey, it's all good, everything is fine, it
- 1:08:32doesn't matter I'm just having fun.
- 1:08:34And that approach kind of change it up to not put so much
- 1:08:37pressure on me and for my mental state.
- 1:08:40And I just approached the bills in a different way, in a more
- 1:08:43peace way of like, it's it's all right.
- 1:08:45It's just a car. Who the fuck cares?
- 1:08:47I still get you. Yeah, bro, I, I life is still so
- 1:08:51good. I'm I'm still going home to my
- 1:08:53amazing life, to my beautiful kid, to my amazing home, to my
- 1:08:57cars. Like who the fuck cares about
- 1:08:59this shit? If it fucks up, I'll do it
- 1:09:00better. I'll do it the following day.
- 1:09:02Who cares? And that change my mentality.
- 1:09:05You are winning so hard. Right now, that's so funny.
- 1:09:08We were just on another podcast, the last one of the last ones.
- 1:09:11We were just talking about kids and how myself and this person,
- 1:09:15we we were like, yeah, we're not really at that stage.
- 1:09:17We we're even think about. OK, yeah, let's even think about
- 1:09:20it, yeah. Yeah.
- 1:09:21And now you're saying but, but we also were saying, well, you
- 1:09:23know, but these people do have kids.
- 1:09:25They say, you know, it's the most change, this thing that
- 1:09:28changes their life. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:09:29This it really does change your. Life and what you just said is a
- 1:09:32good example. Change my whole view on on my
- 1:09:35work and just like how, how I was explaining where it's not
- 1:09:39end of the world because you understand what's more important
- 1:09:42and what's the bigger thing. Like coming into it, it really
- 1:09:45did change my, my workflow. Like I recall coming home from
- 1:09:50work just upset every day. Like this is when I had the
- 1:09:54studio, I had everything. I would just come home upset
- 1:09:57because I'm like, shit, like I just could have done better
- 1:09:59here, here, here, here, whatever.
- 1:10:00Like again, I take my work personal, so I don't remember
- 1:10:04the last time I came home upset or angry because why?
- 1:10:08You know why? Like there's just no like this
- 1:10:10is what's most. Important, gonna have to be
- 1:10:12upset tomorrow. It was just, yeah, it's like,
- 1:10:14who cares? It's not so.
- 1:10:16Interesting. So it, it really changed my
- 1:10:18whole aspect on, on everything. And, you know, not like, and not
- 1:10:23only that, in a in a couple years, I'm gonna have some free
- 1:10:26workers. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:10:29Following in your father's this. Guy is playing the long game for
- 1:10:33labor. That is insane.
- 1:10:36That's it man, free work. That's why he's going to be a.
- 1:10:38Prodigy man, he's going to be a prodigy.
- 1:10:41Dude, imagine Yo Malcolm, imagine you got crazy LAX
- 1:10:46Frankie around. Oh my.
- 1:10:48God, yeah, I wanted to ask. You like how?
- 1:10:50Did you do that? Get him get.
- 1:10:52Spread that over. What?
- 1:10:53What did you said? Over there.
- 1:10:55When you when she was pregnant and you knew you knew the baby
- 1:10:58was coming, what was your thoughts on it?
- 1:11:00Did you think that this was going to happen?
- 1:11:02Probably not, no. I thought it was going to be
- 1:11:04harder because it was always weird.
- 1:11:08Like I liked being at the like I liked being at the at my studio
- 1:11:13so much that it was hard to take me away from there.
- 1:11:17And I had to, I'm like, I couldn't understand the fact I'm
- 1:11:20like, shit, they're like my kids going to be at home.
- 1:11:23Like, am I not going to want to be here?
- 1:11:25Am I going to like, I felt like because of all my
- 1:11:27responsibilities were were going to shift.
- 1:11:29I felt like my, my work quality was going to go down because I
- 1:11:33would be so focused on this. And it really didn't like quite
- 1:11:37the opposite happened, actually. Work is so enjoyable, but it's
- 1:11:40also just as enjoyable to leave, you know?
- 1:11:42So while she was pregnant, I was, so I was, I was distraught
- 1:11:49on how I was going to handle my mental approach working and
- 1:11:55being there and how my schedule is going to be.
- 1:11:58And I don't know how am I going to do this, but I don't like to.
- 1:12:02I don't like to plan long term. I'm like, we'll see what
- 1:12:05happens. I just, we'll see what happens.
- 1:12:07And then it always works out. I long term planning just
- 1:12:10stresses me out. So I go, hey, we'll see.
- 1:12:12It looks like it almost. I don't know what I was going to
- 1:12:15say before, but I had something. It's like it.
- 1:12:18It kind of relaxed your work ethic in a way.
- 1:12:22It did, but it did. But that ended up helping.
- 1:12:25It helped. It helped it it, it makes sense
- 1:12:28when people say things like, Oh, you're working too much.
- 1:12:30You got to go and relax and to work better.
- 1:12:32I'm like, no, no, what do you mean?
- 1:12:33Like I was like, oh, this was the ultimate example because
- 1:12:36this, like it kind of it relaxed me in such a way for, for
- 1:12:41understanding this isn't the most important thing that it
- 1:12:43essentially made my work. Better you were stressing the
- 1:12:45small shit, yes? That's what it was.
- 1:12:47And I would every everything that would come in the work, I
- 1:12:50would just be like, Oh my God, how am I going to do this?
- 1:12:52How am I going to do this when now it comes in about.
- 1:12:57We'll see what happens, you know?
- 1:12:59OK, well, you're. Jaded now, is that it?
- 1:13:02I don't know if I'm you, like went up a tertiary because now
- 1:13:05you have a child and this is like a new stress level.
- 1:13:08So now all that older bullshit is like, it's nothing.
- 1:13:11It's nothing. Yeah.
- 1:13:12Yeah, maybe it's it's really and not that you know it.
- 1:13:17It has its own versions of stress being a father, but not
- 1:13:21stress how you would imagine. And I don't, I don't, I don't
- 1:13:25try to care to explain how it changes because no one could
- 1:13:28have explained it to me when I didn't have a child.
- 1:13:30But when you actually are in that place, you see it and it,
- 1:13:35it, it makes sense. You're like, I'm scared.
- 1:13:37I see. I'm scared I'm going to let's
- 1:13:38say I have a kid someday. I'm scared that I would just
- 1:13:41always just be looking at him or her, like yo that's my that's my
- 1:13:48child. Yeah, it's like the weirdest
- 1:13:50thing. I like, yeah, I like, look at
- 1:13:53him. I'm like, dude, like.
- 1:13:54You kind of look like like. Yo like.
- 1:13:57You came from like. Me bro like this is weird.
- 1:14:02He just. Looks at me like he has no idea
- 1:14:04what I'm saying. I'm like, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:14:06don't. Do this 600 grit and this is
- 1:14:092/20. I can't wait to to go through
- 1:14:12all that, man. Here's the way you do this, and
- 1:14:14here's the way you say it, and here's the way you this.
- 1:14:17Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I'm glad you gave us that
- 1:14:19insight that was. Yeah, it's it's really not as
- 1:14:23stressful as I thought it was going to be.
- 1:14:25And thankfully, the way my work situation is, I, I work at
- 1:14:35nights, I watch my son during, during the day, we hang out, we
- 1:14:39get breakfast, we do whatever and I get to the studio around
- 1:14:42like 3:00 and then I work till late and I just do it over
- 1:14:45again. And it's not hard at all.
- 1:14:48You know, it's really. It's you got him on a good he's.
- 1:14:51Pretty chilling. He's a a year.
- 1:14:53And a half year and a half fucking.
- 1:14:55Yeah, a year and a half. So.
- 1:14:56You got him on a good sleep schedule and everything.
- 1:14:58Oh yeah. Yeah.
- 1:14:59Yeah, he's he's fine with sleep. But normally.
- 1:15:02I have one, but I do know how fucking hard that could be.
- 1:15:06Oh yeah, when I see new parents and they're in that first couple
- 1:15:09months, I'm like, brother, oh, my heart goes out to you, man.
- 1:15:12I I know what you're up against. My buddy's got twins when I went
- 1:15:16to his house in the you had a Super Bowl party.
- 1:15:18Everything was beautifully. It always is responsibly
- 1:15:22planned. I'm like, bro, they would give
- 1:15:25you twins, dude, They they would.
- 1:15:27You're out of all of our. Friends, the most responsible.
- 1:15:30One at. The same time.
- 1:15:33Same time and Oh my God, I was like out of all people, man,
- 1:15:37that's crazy man, that's you, that's you my.
- 1:15:41Hoodie. Oh, no problem.
- 1:15:41Dude, that that. Yeah.
- 1:15:44Frankie, I don't know what. What kids?
- 1:15:46Yeah, I don't know when. I'm not having that shit ever.
- 1:15:48But I'm glad for Kay. I'm glad for Kay.
- 1:15:51I'm glad everything's working out.
- 1:15:53I gotta beat me in hula. Lady.
- 1:15:57Yeah. Carl will definitely have kids,
- 1:16:00I can see that. I went with myself.
- 1:16:03Am I right or no? No, You.
- 1:16:04You. Whenever people had kids, when I
- 1:16:06didn't have kids, they're always like.
- 1:16:08You should have one have one have.
- 1:16:09One, yeah, yeah, I would never do that to anybody and put that
- 1:16:12kind of pressure on them because it really is a lot.
- 1:16:14It's not like getting a. Fucking hamster.
- 1:16:17It's not like getting a hamster a hamster.
- 1:16:20This is a huge thing that you need to it.
- 1:16:23Freaks me out to so the the timeline.
- 1:16:25OK, so like when you have that new spawn, it's like spawn that
- 1:16:31well, because boy or girl, whatever, it could like that.
- 1:16:35Non binary baby. Child is going to be, if
- 1:16:38everything goes correctly, the like the timeline of life, which
- 1:16:42is like for years. So you just started that with
- 1:16:47one little? Yeah.
- 1:16:50Malcolm. No.
- 1:16:50A new bathroom. That's crazy to see him.
- 1:16:53Yeah. It's really weird.
- 1:16:54Yeah, it's weird, right? That door.
- 1:16:56Like yo don't use that. Yeah.
- 1:16:57You should have a door where you could like.
- 1:17:00No. Right through it.
- 1:17:01What are you talking about? That's why we just put on these
- 1:17:04special glasses, right? Here I'm just, I'm watching him
- 1:17:06because I'm like, you better not blow that bathroom though.
- 1:17:09I told no number ones only. I don't want you guys to know
- 1:17:11how long it is. Well, at least over there I
- 1:17:13could say. I, I, I wanted to say at least I
- 1:17:16could say it on here, dude, the place looks fucking amazing,
- 1:17:20man. I'm just going to give you your
- 1:17:22flowers while we're on the air because it's fucking amazing,
- 1:17:26dude. Nobody's doing this shit.
- 1:17:28So the fact that you're doing it like this, killer the place.
- 1:17:32Looks amazing, I really appreciate.
- 1:17:33It and like like how how I was saying out there, anyone could
- 1:17:38have space but for it to look good like how it does how it
- 1:17:43looks like you know what you're doing.
- 1:17:44This place is fucking. It's running like like like how
- 1:17:48it should be. Good shit man.
- 1:17:50Thank you man. Amazing.
- 1:17:51I appreciate it. Amazing.
- 1:17:52And after checking out your space, I, you know, thank you.
- 1:17:55I view you as my peer. You know, we're both, we're both
- 1:17:57around the same age. We've both been doing this shit.
- 1:17:59So yeah. And.
- 1:18:01I'm taking my fucking words. Luckily.
- 1:18:04Luckily, he's not like. I view you as my opposition.
- 1:18:07No, I mean, hey, look, if you had that paint room, then we're.
- 1:18:10Comfortable, that'd be. Different.
- 1:18:12Yeah, no, I you know, when I signed this lease, it was the
- 1:18:15one thing that she said like 7 years, eight years ago.
- 1:18:17Whatever She she goes no painting.
- 1:18:20I'm like OK, I don't give a fuck about painting.
- 1:18:22Everybody hates that stuff. Like thankfully my landlord,
- 1:18:26when I got in there, he was like, he was one of my biggest
- 1:18:30supporters. He he was fine with anything I
- 1:18:33wanted to do. So the fact that I wanted to
- 1:18:35paint, he was like, hey, he was like, do whatever you want.
- 1:18:37I don't give a shit. So this is one I didn't own the
- 1:18:40building yet. It was just renting.
- 1:18:42And he said do whatever you want.
- 1:18:44That was like such like, because I know what it was like to look
- 1:18:48for shops. And once the landlord hears some
- 1:18:52kind of paints or dirt. The first.
- 1:18:54Thing is automotive. Automotive.
- 1:18:55Then then body wear paint, then you've.
- 1:18:58Got to double down. Yeah.
- 1:19:00Hey, actually. So it was the worst.
- 1:19:03So when I told him that and he said, yeah, you could do
- 1:19:05whatever you want. It was a it was very fortunate
- 1:19:07because it's hard to find. Then the building where I'm at
- 1:19:10being it's zoned for everything. It is again, very fortunate.
- 1:19:15And then I we bought the property and 20/3/2023 yeah, he
- 1:19:20right at the end of the night, so.
- 1:19:21I bought out the. Commercial space.
- 1:19:23So thankfully it's it's a dream. It's across the street from a
- 1:19:28Wawa. Dude, it's across the street
- 1:19:29from a Wawa. I can't wait for you to come.
- 1:19:30They. Poop they do.
- 1:19:31The fence. I know the video in my head.
- 1:19:34Dude. Of the fence.
- 1:19:36Dude, I see hoagies in my dreams.
- 1:19:38Dude I'm fucking. I'm like, scared.
- 1:19:40That's so you 2 Having spaces like these gives people like me
- 1:19:46who are trying to start a little something like my booth right
- 1:19:49now. It went from like a single Bay
- 1:19:51garage where like plastic hanging from all over to now I
- 1:19:54bought like a little bit of a wider little structure of a tent
- 1:19:58paint booth thing to now there's there's a little space next to
- 1:20:02that. That's a garage.
- 1:20:04It's just occupied at the moment, but I want that one so I
- 1:20:06can make it. So you can make it better.
- 1:20:08Slowly like. Having your space is.
- 1:20:12It's a good. Feeling so I.
- 1:20:13Control it. I can make it as clean as I want
- 1:20:17it and every time I leave there fucking clean, the hoses are all
- 1:20:21reeled up. They'll every all the cords are
- 1:20:23like where they got to be so that when I go in there next
- 1:20:25time I just get everything. Until until you have an
- 1:20:27employee. That's on.
- 1:20:29But yeah, but I have an employee that's on me.
- 1:20:31So that's why I'm like, wow, this is kind of SIP, yeah.
- 1:20:34Yeah, yeah. When it's when it's your own
- 1:20:36spot, it's it's amazing. I mean look, I was, I did like
- 1:20:40freelance shit work for maybe like 3-4 years and then I was an
- 1:20:44apprentice for like 7 years and the whole time was just the main
- 1:20:49goal was I want my own place to do my own thing to work how I
- 1:20:54want so no one could tell me shit.
- 1:20:56So that was always the goal, which I'm sure it was for
- 1:20:59everyone who wanted to get into this.
- 1:21:01I'm sure you too attest for that because you want to do things
- 1:21:04your way and finding the place and the spot and everything.
- 1:21:09Sure it's hard but shit always works out.
- 1:21:12I. Should always want it.
- 1:21:13If you want it bad enough, it's gonna work out it.
- 1:21:15It, it always, it always works out.
- 1:21:18Listen, like when I when I started this shit, I didn't have
- 1:21:21a long term plan. Again, I don't plan long term.
- 1:21:24Like we'll, we'll see what happens.
- 1:21:25You're preaching to the choir, kid.
- 1:21:27I do just a. Long.
- 1:21:28Term plan. I think I'm the same one.
- 1:21:29Yeah, you're. Playing no long term plans.
- 1:21:32Can't forget the main goal. Fun, fun.
- 1:21:36That's it. That's it.
- 1:21:37Currently, am I having fun? At what point in my life was I
- 1:21:42having a better time? If it's not now, there's
- 1:21:44something wrong. There's something wrong.
- 1:21:46So do you want to have fun? Want to have fun?
- 1:21:48Want to have fun? Short term plans to keep having
- 1:21:50fun. And if, if I could keep doing
- 1:21:52that, great. Amazing.
- 1:21:54I always thought I was fucking up because I didn't have a a
- 1:21:59business plan. Business plan.
- 1:22:02Everything, dude. Everything.
- 1:22:04Yeah. Everything you watch, they go,
- 1:22:06oh, if you don't have a business plan.
- 1:22:07You gotta have your mission statement.
- 1:22:09You have to have your mission statement.
- 1:22:10And you have to have a mission statement.
- 1:22:12No, I never ever done this. I've thought about.
- 1:22:14It. That's some big Corp shit.
- 1:22:16Yeah, that's some big Corp shit. I thought about it.
- 1:22:17But I'm never. I I, I hate all that shit like
- 1:22:21anything. Mission statement, I can kind of
- 1:22:23get on board with that a little bit, no, but your mission?
- 1:22:27Make money, bitch. I nothing, I'm putting up
- 1:22:31nothing. I'm doing nothing.
- 1:22:33Anything that comes close to to the clerical side of the
- 1:22:37business. Thankfully I'm my wife that she
- 1:22:40could do all to do all the other stuff because without her it
- 1:22:43wouldn't be running. But it would be very difficult
- 1:22:46for me to do those things because I just want to work.
- 1:22:50I just want to work. You know and like.
- 1:22:53I feel like when people are really good at other things,
- 1:22:58whether it be the marketing, whether it be the business side,
- 1:23:00whether it be the books, whether it be the counts, whether it be
- 1:23:03whatever, if they're really good at that, it makes up for some
- 1:23:07skill. But if you're really fucking
- 1:23:10good, believe me, you don't need any of that shit.
- 1:23:13They'll find you. If you're that good, no one is
- 1:23:16going to go, oh, I'm thinking about going to him or him, but
- 1:23:19he has a better mission statement and he has a Better
- 1:23:22Business strategy. No, he does better work.
- 1:23:25That's. It no one no one has ever
- 1:23:28brought up mission statement when they're looking for someone
- 1:23:30to. Do work.
- 1:23:30There's nothing about that. If you do good work, you're
- 1:23:34good. That's it, That's it.
- 1:23:36That's the end of the. Be undeniable.
- 1:23:38Be undeniable that's that's the shit once that happens.
- 1:23:41Deniable. That is 1000% one of my new
- 1:23:44favorite words. I mean, it's true.
- 1:23:45That's literally, you know, that's it.
- 1:23:48Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Because with that, I mean, no
- 1:23:50one could argue. Yeah, with, with, with you, you
- 1:23:53know, I'm. Just we have a lot of similar.
- 1:23:55I'm just thinking in my head. No, it's nice to know it's it's
- 1:23:57cool seeing someone my wait, are we the same age?
- 1:24:02I'm. 34. Oh yeah, we're the same age.
- 1:24:04I'm 35. OK, so being someone the same
- 1:24:06age doing this shit is so cool. And I think we spoke about this
- 1:24:09at my studio when when we were back when I was in my teens and
- 1:24:17all that shit. And we're all going to car meets
- 1:24:18and all that and everyone's hanging out.
- 1:24:20They're all at the meet, they're all standing in their circle.
- 1:24:23Everyone's talking about all the shit they want to do, right?
- 1:24:26Guess what? All of them are doing something
- 1:24:28else now. They all sold out.
- 1:24:30And the rare few that made it in this, that made it in this
- 1:24:34industry to call it a living, the few, the fortunate.
- 1:24:37But it's nice to know there are people like us where we're like,
- 1:24:41we're going to make a a living out of out of out of that shit.
- 1:24:45And I'm going to have fun every day.
- 1:24:47I'm going to have fun every single.
- 1:24:48Day, I mean, that was that was my thing too.
- 1:24:50My thing was I I hate saying this because I don't want people
- 1:24:54to think I think down on anyone, but my thing was I don't want a
- 1:24:57boss. Yeah, of.
- 1:24:59Course. That was my I.
- 1:25:00My whole life has been like trying to get the people above
- 1:25:04me out of the way. So at first it's your parents,
- 1:25:07then it's your teachers, then it's the police, then it's, you
- 1:25:10know, but there's always someone above you.
- 1:25:13And there is, yes. Now I have a land.
- 1:25:15I always say this. I was like, now I have a
- 1:25:17landlord, the state. Now you don't want.
- 1:25:19Federal government. All right, So what island so.
- 1:25:22Now I gotta get rid of what? Now I gotta get rid of my
- 1:25:24landlord. And then?
- 1:25:26It's just the state and the federal.
- 1:25:27Government that you're not doing anything about.
- 1:25:29Never say never. What the fuck, but you know what
- 1:25:33I mean. So now, but like, you know, it's
- 1:25:35just making those steps like I can get these people out of my
- 1:25:37way so I can do what I want to do.
- 1:25:39That was. Kind of really is what like what
- 1:25:42it kind of comes down to is getting rid of your boss.
- 1:25:44Like I forgot where I read it where it says if you could wake
- 1:25:48up and choose what you want to do that day, you want you won,
- 1:25:54you won. That's that's it.
- 1:25:55Regardless what is it doesn't have to be the shit, but if it's
- 1:25:58what you want to do. That's a better way to look.
- 1:26:00And you can do it. You can.
- 1:26:02Because that can work with anyone with a boss.
- 1:26:04Like, what do you mean? Like if someone has a boss, it's
- 1:26:07like, yeah, but I want to do this.
- 1:26:08It's like. OK, then it'll work, but it's
- 1:26:10not everyone is meant to be a boss.
- 1:26:11Yeah, no A. 100% and that's completely fine.
- 1:26:15Yes, there is a lot of bad with it.
- 1:26:17I talk people away from it all the time to start their own
- 1:26:20business, tell people all the time I go, it's not all the
- 1:26:24roses and shit, but. There's actually like a most Mel
- 1:26:27Roses I. Was going to.
- 1:26:29Say no, no, no. It's.
- 1:26:30All fun and games until you have to fucking yell at somebody.
- 1:26:32But if you could wake up and you aligned your life in a way where
- 1:26:36you could do what you want to do that day, or let's say something
- 1:26:40stupid like something short term came up and you, you want to
- 1:26:43take off on a Tuesday to do whatever you want.
- 1:26:46I'm doing it. I'm not asking another man to
- 1:26:49oh, can I take off on? No, no, I'm doing what I want.
- 1:26:54I'm doing how I want to do it. And I'm sorry if that sounds
- 1:26:57egotistical. I know I feel the same.
- 1:26:58Way I'm glad you literally work to go do that that is literally
- 1:27:03you build your own empire literally so that you can have
- 1:27:06your. I literally like literally named
- 1:27:11my business after my goal, super life.
- 1:27:15This is going to allow me to live the best life as possible.
- 1:27:19This is going to enable me to live the type of life I want to
- 1:27:24live. And that's all the goal was
- 1:27:27nothing else. I just want to live this type
- 1:27:29of. Life, That's exactly what my
- 1:27:30goal was. That's what I wanted to do.
- 1:27:32I just want that's it. To do what I want to do.
- 1:27:35Yeah, when I want to do it. Now, that being said, I don't do
- 1:27:39a fucking thing, right, Malcolm I, I'm here every fucking day.
- 1:27:42So I, I don't know if I won yet, but it feels like I'm winning
- 1:27:46because I if I want to, because sometimes, sometimes I'll be
- 1:27:49Today was one of those days. I was here and I was not having
- 1:27:52a good day. Who got in trouble?
- 1:27:53Who got in trouble? No one, no one ever gets in
- 1:27:54trouble here. That's one problem.
- 1:27:56One problem. I was sitting there and I was
- 1:27:59going, you know, in my head I was like, I could get up and
- 1:28:02leave and just knowing that I can do that is enough.
- 1:28:07Is a good feeling. That's enough buddy buddy.
- 1:28:10Yes, I didn't. I never do Malcolm, but I know I
- 1:28:12can do. That you can practice your free
- 1:28:14will, yes, without any consequences.
- 1:28:17That was the perfect way to say that.
- 1:28:18That's that's it. That's really it.
- 1:28:20Because I remember when I worked at, I worked at Nissan and I
- 1:28:23remember one time I always bring the story up because this is
- 1:28:25this is one of those moments where I realized that I needed
- 1:28:28to do something else. I think we were going to, we
- 1:28:31were going to Super D in California, right?
- 1:28:34So I needed like 2 weeks off, right?
- 1:28:37Yeah. And I brought that up months
- 1:28:39ago. I was like, yo, I'm going to be
- 1:28:41taking off a visit. Yeah, we'll, we'll take a look
- 1:28:43at it. And in my head I was like, you
- 1:28:44can take a look at it. I'm leaving.
- 1:28:46Yeah, I'm going to this. So then.
- 1:28:47Talk about that month before. I'm like, don't forget, you
- 1:28:50know, those two weeks are coming up in like a month or two.
- 1:28:52And he's like, oh, OK, yeah, we'll, we'll look into it and
- 1:28:54this and that. I was like, let me just stop
- 1:28:55you. I'm going to be leaving in in a
- 1:28:59month or two, for two weeks. You need to decide if you're
- 1:29:01going to fire me or not. Yeah.
- 1:29:03And he looked at me like, oh, and I'm like, yeah, it's pretty
- 1:29:07easy. Yeah.
- 1:29:08Yeah. It's you just got to tell me if
- 1:29:09I have a job. Straightforward.
- 1:29:10That's pretty much it. So.
- 1:29:11You let me know and he's like, OK, we'll, we'll talk about it.
- 1:29:13I was like, I'm done talking. I just told you.
- 1:29:15I don't like that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that noise.
- 1:29:18There. That being said, that being
- 1:29:19said. Show me the respect of of
- 1:29:21somebody else. Like no, that being.
- 1:29:23Said this guy, probably one of the best supervisors I ever had.
- 1:29:27He wasn't the parts manager. He was.
- 1:29:30A. Service manager above, he's
- 1:29:32above. So he, he, he, he watched me do
- 1:29:36it. He let me do it and I had my job
- 1:29:40and he, he knew, he knew what was going on.
- 1:29:42He was like, you're building your own thing, this and that,
- 1:29:45and he let me do it. I saw him, I would say five to
- 1:29:53six years later in that supermarket.
- 1:29:56I had no idea. Yeah, I had no idea he lived
- 1:29:58around here. He said, someone says my name.
- 1:30:01I go, what the fuck? I turn around the parking lot,
- 1:30:02it's him. I go, holy shit, how are you?
- 1:30:05Whatever. He's like, oh, how are you?
- 1:30:08He's still the supervisor of some of my own old Co workers at
- 1:30:10another dealership now. They all moved.
- 1:30:12Yeah. And he goes, Brian tells me.
- 1:30:17You have your own shop and everything.
- 1:30:18I'm like, yeah, yeah. It's down the street, actually.
- 1:30:20Yeah, he's like, Oh my God, I need to come check it out, He
- 1:30:22says. You're doing all these things,
- 1:30:23this and that. How about that shit feels great
- 1:30:25it. Felt amazing you.
- 1:30:27Felt great get. The hordes it.
- 1:30:30Wasn't it wasn't like a fuck you thing at all.
- 1:30:32I respected him the whole time and and I still felt that way.
- 1:30:35So now it was more like someone who I respected is now kind of
- 1:30:40congratulating me in a way which I don't ever feel like I need
- 1:30:42that, but it. It it is nice.
- 1:30:44It's nice to hear from especially.
- 1:30:46Someone that was over you and seeing where you came from and
- 1:30:51where you're at now. I mean, I, I would, yeah.
- 1:30:54That's especially. Even talking about it now is is
- 1:30:56more emotional than it was in the moment.
- 1:30:58But yeah, that is a big deal. Kind of like when you say
- 1:31:01something to me because I view you as I don't know, it's like,
- 1:31:06you know how it is when you view someone who's in your footstep,
- 1:31:09you know what I mean? They're going, they're going
- 1:31:11down the same path, yes. Yes, yes.
- 1:31:13So you can. It means more, you know what I
- 1:31:15mean? Yeah, especially from someone
- 1:31:19that's where you want to be or someone that's doing the that's
- 1:31:23doing the same thing you're trying to do.
- 1:31:25That's side by side. Yeah, it does mean a lot.
- 1:31:27Because they know the battle. Yeah.
- 1:31:29They know the struggle, Yeah. And they understand that the
- 1:31:32risks it took for you to get where you're at and all the
- 1:31:35moves you had to make so. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:31:37No, that was that was, that was definitely one of those my I
- 1:31:40never really think about. That you getting your flowers?
- 1:31:42Those are. That's you getting your flowers
- 1:31:45without getting a bouquet. Like you got.
- 1:31:47One flower and that's yeah, that's sick.
- 1:31:50And you could tell he was like excited about it.
- 1:31:52And I was like, well, you got to come by.
- 1:31:53He hasn't come by yet, but I think he will.
- 1:31:55I think he's going to come by the shop and check it out.
- 1:31:56There's, there's a couple. There was a couple times where
- 1:32:00someone came by my studio when I knew them way back when.
- 1:32:04I didn't have any, I didn't have anything to work out of yet or
- 1:32:07nothing impressive I've I've done.
- 1:32:10And one day when they see it, that perspective of them seeing
- 1:32:15you go from this to that and seeing their shock and their
- 1:32:18surprise and seeing how proud they are, it's that, it's that
- 1:32:21perspective that kind of makes you look in the rearview mirror
- 1:32:25as far as how far you came. Because when, when you're in it,
- 1:32:29you're in it, you're running. But when someone else comes in
- 1:32:32and they will, they, they weren't in the whole journey,
- 1:32:35but they rather saw A&B. They're looking like holy shit,
- 1:32:38look what you did in this amount of time if it feels good.
- 1:32:42Fuck that actually feels pretty relatable because I feel like I
- 1:32:45don't go anywhere some days and I'm just sitting still.
- 1:32:48But then, yeah. But then you got to think about
- 1:32:49where you came from. Yeah.
- 1:32:50But then I'm like, I wouldn't fucking know perspective how to
- 1:32:53do any of that. Yeah.
- 1:32:54Yeah. So when you're when you're when
- 1:32:56you're a business owner too, it's like you really are stuck
- 1:32:59in that everyday thing. And you always, if you're a good
- 1:33:02business owner, you always feel like you're not enough.
- 1:33:04Yeah, yeah, yeah. So you always feel like you
- 1:33:06haven't done enough, you haven't hit your goals, you haven't done
- 1:33:09that. So you never fucking, you know,
- 1:33:12smell the flowers or whatever. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:33:14But then you'll get that one customer or like you said that
- 1:33:16one person that saw it from the beginning that comes in and I
- 1:33:20told him about this the other day.
- 1:33:22This guy came in and he starts looking around and he's like,
- 1:33:26holy shit. You're like living the dream.
- 1:33:30And I was like, and then for a minute I was like, yeah, I am.
- 1:33:35I am I. Am there's, There's a couple
- 1:33:37times where I'm there alone and I'm working and I don't know, I
- 1:33:42guess it just hits a certain moment just hits and whether it
- 1:33:46be I'm doing, I'm doing something and I look back and I
- 1:33:49see the way the cars are kind of stacked out or, or I see my my
- 1:33:52own cars or whatever it is or, and you just like I'm like, oh
- 1:33:57man, this feels amazing. Like wow, like and then you
- 1:34:01think about the risks and the struggles and the shit you could
- 1:34:04tell, you could tell to your older self and you're like, Oh
- 1:34:07my God. Ruin it's.
- 1:34:10Like damn. No, you're right though, it
- 1:34:11does. It does so.
- 1:34:13Seeing that is just it hits up times man I think.
- 1:34:17That's AI. Think that's something that
- 1:34:19happens in your 30s as a business business owner if
- 1:34:21you've been doing it your whole life?
- 1:34:22I think so, yeah. Yeah, Really.
- 1:34:24Because I had. I did not feel this way in my
- 1:34:2520s. No, no.
- 1:34:26Dude, yes you do. Yes, you.
- 1:34:28Do I never did. You just don't remember it that
- 1:34:30way anymore. No, no, I swear to God, I.
- 1:34:32Promise. No dude.
- 1:34:33Last summer. It's different, but we didn't
- 1:34:35look at ourselves like we did anything.
- 1:34:37Oh, you know what I mean? OK, yeah, like we.
- 1:34:39But now I feel like in we're getting to that point where
- 1:34:44we're like, OK, maybe we can smell the Rose.
- 1:34:45Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, OK.
- 1:34:47A little. Bit not to say that it's like
- 1:34:50I'm kind of slowing down. Yeah, yeah, to.
- 1:34:52Stop. And you know all that, but it's
- 1:34:56just, I don't know, I guess. Perspective.
- 1:34:57Enjoy the fruits of your labor. Yeah.
- 1:34:59Like a little giddy moment room a little bit.
- 1:35:01Yeah, yeah. Yeah, there's times it gets me
- 1:35:03emotional where I get really happy of everything that I I
- 1:35:08made to live this type of life that I want to live where I I
- 1:35:13get really happy again, it gets me emotional.
- 1:35:15But I'm so far and few those moments.
- 1:35:19I wish there were more often because yeah, there's times
- 1:35:21where it's very tricky. But we have to, we have to make
- 1:35:24those moments. Yes, yes, yes.
- 1:35:25I also make, I mean, occasionally someone will come
- 1:35:26in and and it clicks and then you're you're.
- 1:35:28Good. I was going to say like when he
- 1:35:30said when literally when you said to you don't slow down or
- 1:35:33anything, but nothing's slowing down.
- 1:35:35It's just that moment happens. Yeah.
- 1:35:38I choose to slow down because I'm.
- 1:35:42I don't. Ever.
- 1:35:44Yeah, you told me this. I'm a spastic motherfucker.
- 1:35:46When I start working I will. Well that's going to mess shit
- 1:35:49up, man. No, no, no.
- 1:35:50Like if something's happening over here and I know something
- 1:35:56else can go get work done over there while that's happening,
- 1:36:00I'm going to go do it because my time, I'm not wasting it.
- 1:36:03I don't want to. Waste it?
- 1:36:04No, no, I'd, I, I say this, I, I, I teach this a lot.
- 1:36:09Whenever someone works for me is sometimes you have the intent of
- 1:36:13being efficient. Sure, where when one thing is
- 1:36:16happening, you want to do the other, you want to do something
- 1:36:19else, it's fine. But when you're being efficient
- 1:36:21and you're trying to be efficient, you can only do so
- 1:36:24much. Your brain can only do so much,
- 1:36:27especially when you're not amazing at at this one, at this
- 1:36:31one particular thing. So when you're doing this one
- 1:36:34particular thing, I would tell the guys, I'd be like, no, focus
- 1:36:38on this one thing. Don't get lost because then your
- 1:36:42mind is here. Oh, I, I hope this thing is
- 1:36:44going to, is going to cure properly here.
- 1:36:46Oh, but I'm going to put down the body filler here.
- 1:36:48And, and then while that's curing, I'm going to send this.
- 1:36:50No, you need undivided attention on this one specific thing until
- 1:36:56it's right, because otherwise it's going to take you so long
- 1:36:59to make that thing right. You need to focus.
- 1:37:02Don't get lost. I tell guys all the time when I
- 1:37:04say don't get lost, like when you like when you work on this.
- 1:37:07Like let's say you're working on a big panel.
- 1:37:10Like let's say you're working on a big hood and you want to
- 1:37:12straighten the hood out and the guys will start working on the
- 1:37:15whole hood at once. They'll start saying, I'm like,
- 1:37:17hold on, don't get lost. Work on one section at a time.
- 1:37:21I know you want to be efficient. You want to do the whole thing.
- 1:37:23Start here, break it all down, then go here, then go here, then
- 1:37:28go here. Like break it or else you're
- 1:37:30going to get lost. Like I know you want to be
- 1:37:32efficient, but efficiency comes with experience and with
- 1:37:36experience, you know, OK, I've done this one thing a million
- 1:37:39times. I can afford to do this thing at
- 1:37:42the same time because I've done it, I've done it a million
- 1:37:46times. So sometimes being efficient is
- 1:37:49not the best. My dad would would always say,
- 1:37:52you know, sometimes when you when you rush and you're not
- 1:37:56really in it, the work would never come out right.
- 1:38:00And I never thought it to be true until I would stop and slow
- 1:38:04down and realize like, oh, shit, OK, yeah.
- 1:38:07When he said listen, go to sleep, come back to it the
- 1:38:11following day. I bet you you're going to
- 1:38:12approach it better. It would be true.
- 1:38:15Sometimes it's not good to to burn yourself out.
- 1:38:18He. Took this to the next level.
- 1:38:20He's got a chair in there. He just sits on the chair and
- 1:38:22just looks. What I was gonna say aside from
- 1:38:27now I'm gonna be like, fuck, maybe I should definitely slow
- 1:38:30down more I. Would slow down.
- 1:38:31Slow down. I do stop.
- 1:38:34I like to stop sometimes to make sure I turn around.
- 1:38:38Does that makes not the turn around turn around, but
- 1:38:40literally just to like look at the steps you just took because
- 1:38:44there was that yes, I'm I'm scared.
- 1:38:47I'm chasing this high that I felt from the car.
- 1:38:49Number one, it was a green high, metallic high.
- 1:38:55I can only say the color because it was a good friend of mine.
- 1:38:57Car look pretty cool, yeah. And like, I didn't know what I
- 1:39:01was doing. I didn't know how the fuck the
- 1:39:03paint laid on the panel. I don't know how it turned out
- 1:39:06shiny. But there was a point in time
- 1:39:09where my back patio in my house had so much shit all over the
- 1:39:14place, Panels on stands, waiting, This thing I'm working
- 1:39:18on, you know, I got fans going. I've my hands are dirty.
- 1:39:23I'm looking at myself. And then I'm like, oh, yeah,
- 1:39:27yeah, yeah. Chasing this crazy high.
- 1:39:30I have a photo of myself like I send it to my mom like.
- 1:39:33Look at my little Body Shop. Like I'm just chasing this this
- 1:39:37high of like accomplishment, I guess.
- 1:39:40And I feel like after that one, I'm like, damn, that next rung
- 1:39:44is I want to, I want to just keep grabbing of.
- 1:39:48Course, yeah, but I mean. To just get better, even on this
- 1:39:52pod I fucking. I'm just absorbing information.
- 1:39:54I mean just learning. Yeah, this, this, this industry
- 1:39:59sucks, man. It does.
- 1:40:01This whole bunch of shit sucks. It sucks, but it's like I'm
- 1:40:04having fun, I don't give a shit. Of course that was always the
- 1:40:07thing, fun. But there's times I like.
- 1:40:11I don't like every step of the process.
- 1:40:14What's your least favorite? I really don't.
- 1:40:17My least favorite. Has to be sanding.
- 1:40:19Come on. I actually like to sand.
- 1:40:22Stop, he said it the last. Time I actually like to sand he.
- 1:40:24Said it, he said. I feel.
- 1:40:26Like I don't believe it or. You said if you come into a.
- 1:40:29Long term sanding I. Just to sand.
- 1:40:31It's a good day for you. It's good.
- 1:40:33Yeah, I. Remember that?
- 1:40:34Yeah. Like I like days where like,
- 1:40:36let's say like not all kinds of sanding is the best.
- 1:40:42Like today I had some wet sand. I don't like that.
- 1:40:45I like to shape filler and do all that kind of stuff to sand
- 1:40:48body filler and all that. That's that's, that's really
- 1:40:52fun. I like that.
- 1:40:54But least favorites would have to be all the way at the end
- 1:40:59when after it's painted, everything after it's painted I
- 1:41:06don't like. Like I sand the entire car after
- 1:41:10it's painted, I wet sand the entire car.
- 1:41:11I buff, I Polish, I do everything on my own.
- 1:41:14That whole process to sand the whole car, buff, Polish and then
- 1:41:18assemble without fucking anything up I don't like.
- 1:41:21It sounds like most painters hate wet sanding.
- 1:41:24I. Don't like Yeah, I don't.
- 1:41:25I don't like I I used to have a good friend of mine that used to
- 1:41:29work for me. His name is Tito.
- 1:41:32He would do all my buffing and all my polishing and it's like,
- 1:41:36it was perfect. I was perfect.
- 1:41:37I did all the things I like to do.
- 1:41:38And the one part I hated he would do.
- 1:41:41I was like, dude, you're my white mage dude.
- 1:41:43Like no one wants to do this shit, but you're, you're fucking
- 1:41:45doing it amazing. And then he's doing his own
- 1:41:48thing. So then I'm I'm like, OK, now I
- 1:41:50have to do this. I'm like, shit, I hate this.
- 1:41:53It is a satisfying process because at the end you see the
- 1:41:56shine of all the work you put into it.
- 1:41:59Because when you're trying to make a panel straight, you don't
- 1:42:01really appreciate how straight it is until it's done.
- 1:42:04Everything's shining, you know the sun is hitting it and you
- 1:42:07really appreciate it now. So of course it's a very
- 1:42:10important process. But I hate, I hate, hate, hate
- 1:42:13that process. You, Carl.
- 1:42:14I hate it. I so the the shaping part is the
- 1:42:19part that I hate. OK.
- 1:42:20So you guys are opposite? Only but do you know what I my
- 1:42:24we're all different in this room.
- 1:42:25My tactic to that you remember how each person can be good if
- 1:42:29you're good at all of these things, you're never really
- 1:42:32going to be good at 1 Jack of all trades is a master of blah
- 1:42:34blah blah blah. A lot of those people, a friend
- 1:42:37of mine, Javi, very detail oriented guy, but doesn't know
- 1:42:42how to paint, very detail oriented.
- 1:42:44Patience level is high. That person, that teammate, that
- 1:42:50friend, that that best friend of mine, that's my shaper.
- 1:42:55When they're done shaping and they're, they, it's their
- 1:42:57standard and they're OK with it and they like it and it passes
- 1:43:00their, you know, standard. He doesn't do he doesn't do all
- 1:43:04of it, though. He.
- 1:43:05No, he doesn't. He doesn't paint or anything.
- 1:43:07I'll finish it up. But like the the number one
- 1:43:10building, the the panel, the straight structure, that's what
- 1:43:12they like to do. That's what they like to work
- 1:43:14on. You got to do everything.
- 1:43:16Everything from A to BI used to. Everything you have.
- 1:43:19To And then I found out he's better at me than it, and then I
- 1:43:22crafted all the painting stuff. Saying I mean.
- 1:43:25Look, you have to be able to pick it up and do it yourself,
- 1:43:28right? I don't like the fact that my
- 1:43:32good job is based on someone else being there or not.
- 1:43:36I don't like that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:43:38I don't like the fact of if this person doesn't show up now, my
- 1:43:43work is going to be a little bit less than what it should be.
- 1:43:46It's not You're paying for me like I should be able to do
- 1:43:50everything. I don't want work to stop if
- 1:43:52someone isn't there. And in The Body Shop world,
- 1:43:57there are only body text because they're beds.
- 1:44:00And then there's only paint guys.
- 1:44:01Then there's only prep guys, then there's only this guys.
- 1:44:03Sure, but. This is not a body.
- 1:44:07This isn't a Body Shop, you know, and I do.
- 1:44:09That's what I was going. To say step one to that's.
- 1:44:10More like a business aspect. That's more like an art aspect.
- 1:44:13I know he doesn't. He doesn't want to call.
- 1:44:15Himself an artist. I don't want to.
- 1:44:16Say artist, but I'm going to. Call him an artist, but no that
- 1:44:18but so that you remember how I talked to a lot of old heads.
- 1:44:23Yeah, old head number, I don't even know, was like, if you
- 1:44:28can't go in there into the boot, it was just about painting at
- 1:44:31this point. If you can't go into the booth
- 1:44:32and pick up the gun yourself and paint something without your
- 1:44:35painter being there, then just scratch this whole business
- 1:44:38model. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:44:39Yeah, and now meaning meaning you should be able to do
- 1:44:41everything no matter. Because of the reliance.
- 1:44:43Factor everything you. Can't rely on anybody else at
- 1:44:45the end of the day like. Look like thankfully that's why
- 1:44:48my model can work of having no employees because it it doesn't
- 1:44:54matter, you know, it really doesn't matter though.
- 1:44:57All the jobs can still get done time wise.
- 1:44:59I can still beat a lot of other shops doing doing overall
- 1:45:03builds. Not that it's a competition, I'm
- 1:45:06just using it as a standard of time that it's not slowing.
- 1:45:08Down I was about to say no. No, I, I, I I really don't care
- 1:45:13to be better than anyone else. As long as I'm good to me, yeah,
- 1:45:17that's fine. I don't give a shit.
- 1:45:18And that, that alone speaks fucking waves.
- 1:45:20You guys are literally both top tier business owners in my face.
- 1:45:25I was. I was going to say I.
- 1:45:26Don't know about all that. Maybe not in terms of capital,
- 1:45:29sure, but like I'm definitely not you.
- 1:45:31I'm not going to turn down a a compliment.
- 1:45:34Here's your Flower 1, Flower 2 take.
- 1:45:37That shit. Because.
- 1:45:39You both stand for what you guys believe in, and that is a
- 1:45:45business owner. No, thank you.
- 1:45:46I don't dude. I worked for a big company, OK,
- 1:45:51the CEO there he was. Literally in the corporate
- 1:45:54world. I hated that world because that
- 1:45:58CEO sells out to everybody. Where are their beliefs at?
- 1:46:01Nothing. That shit is awash.
- 1:46:04No, it's completely yeah. K Where?
- 1:46:06Where was the thought of money when you started this thing?
- 1:46:10Money was a touchy 1 because like you, you, you don't want to
- 1:46:14know what what, what What's really fucked up is everyone
- 1:46:17would laugh at me because when I was say probably young 20s, this
- 1:46:23is when I started to make the choice that I want to do this
- 1:46:26for a living and not just make this a side gig.
- 1:46:29I always had this one thing I would say where I was like, it's
- 1:46:33not about the money, it's not about the money, fuck the money,
- 1:46:35fuck the money. I don't care about the money.
- 1:46:37I just want to be good at what I do and I want my opinion to be
- 1:46:40valued. That's it.
- 1:46:41That was always the goal. And then time went on and it
- 1:46:45creeped in and I was like, wow, money is really evil.
- 1:46:48It really requires a lot of it to get your shit going.
- 1:46:51So of course we all need money to get shit to happen and to get
- 1:46:57the bills to turn out good, to allow me to do what I do.
- 1:47:01But it's a really evil thing because I initially started with
- 1:47:04I was like, I don't care about the money at all.
- 1:47:06I was like, as long as I do good, it it'll find itself,
- 1:47:09it'll find itself to me. Which thankfully.
- 1:47:11It's the second time you've said that.
- 1:47:13Which one? Everything just works out.
- 1:47:15Everything works out. K I'm my mom would.
- 1:47:18Always string A and string B and I'm like no.
- 1:47:21No, no everything. Like anytime I would get
- 1:47:25stressed, my mom would always be like listen just it's OK.
- 1:47:28Everything always works out like.
- 1:47:29My mom causes my stress. She's literally like, what if
- 1:47:33this doesn't happen? I'm like, mom, I'm trying to
- 1:47:35think about it. Yeah, his mom.
- 1:47:37The way my friends. Are telling me you know.
- 1:47:39It it, it, it would cool me down because, you know, I would try
- 1:47:42to like think long time. How am I going to do this?
- 1:47:44Like just relax. Everything works out.
- 1:47:46It's all fine and it does it does.
- 1:47:50So money wise, it works out. Like when I got into the studio,
- 1:47:56that was in 2020. Never would I have thought we
- 1:47:59would be able to buy the property out three years after.
- 1:48:03No way. Because I'm like, OK, Because
- 1:48:05the initial goal, my initial goal was always OK.
- 1:48:08If I could do what I love and just make it by and I could just
- 1:48:12make it pay all my bills and just have food and everything,
- 1:48:15I'm fine. Ah, dude, please don't say that.
- 1:48:18Don't say that. That's my.
- 1:48:19That's my. Literal yeah, I'm like, I'm
- 1:48:21like, if I could just do this, if I could just do this, please,
- 1:48:24I'm fine. And then you finally hit it,
- 1:48:26right? You hit it.
- 1:48:26I'm like, OK, I'm living it right.
- 1:48:28You're like, OK, it's good, all right, it's fine.
- 1:48:30And then like you can't be comfortable.
- 1:48:31You can never be comfortable When you when you get
- 1:48:34comfortable, shit goes flat. So I was like, OK, how can I
- 1:48:37like stand my toes? Like, OK, wow, like we could
- 1:48:40live off of this. OK, we made it.
- 1:48:41I'm doing what I love. I'm I'm making money.
- 1:48:44OK, fine, let's do the next step.
- 1:48:46Let's do the next step. So like, I didn't plan for any
- 1:48:49of this stuff out with the money wise and whatever what I could
- 1:48:51do or buy or make the business bigger or whatever.
- 1:48:54But it happened, you know, the money was never the goal.
- 1:48:57Yeah, not mine either. It was never even a thought in
- 1:48:59my head. Yeah, because this is your your
- 1:49:02passion. So of course it's not a.
- 1:49:03Goal. We already went over the goals.
- 1:49:05The goal was I don't want a boss you.
- 1:49:08Don't want a boss? That was the only goal.
- 1:49:09I want to do what I want. And that's still the only.
- 1:49:11Goal. It was never about the money.
- 1:49:13Yeah, money sucks, man. It's really, it's really evil.
- 1:49:16Bad. It's really evil.
- 1:49:18Yeah, Yeah. And like, like back then it, I
- 1:49:20guess it was a little bit harder because I would spend so much
- 1:49:23time doing this one thing and I'd be like, OK, I painted this
- 1:49:28valve coat. If you did this amazing shit,
- 1:49:29all this artwork, whatever. OK, $200.
- 1:49:31I'm like, Oh my God, this put all these hours, I and I only
- 1:49:34charge $200. This, this is wild.
- 1:49:36This sucks. And the years go on.
- 1:49:38You know, now I'm not worth that anymore.
- 1:49:40It's worth a lot more. So money isn't as shitty as it
- 1:49:44used to be, but still the goal is still not money.
- 1:49:48Especially when you're, when you're starting off, I mean, you
- 1:49:50have to make a name for yourself, especially in your, in
- 1:49:52your. Especially when you're starting
- 1:49:53no. Business side of it too you.
- 1:49:56Can't you have to pay your dues? You can't just start off working
- 1:50:00on the cars you want to work on and making all the money you
- 1:50:02want to make. You can't do that.
- 1:50:04You, you, you got to start somewhere, whether it be making
- 1:50:06no money or working on shitty cars that you don't want to
- 1:50:09work. On, that's where I think like
- 1:50:13that's where I think if you don't have fun doing it, you're
- 1:50:17going to find out kind of fast. Oh yeah, fun is.
- 1:50:21Because imagine if I did maybe last summer.
- 1:50:24Imagine if I didn't have fun doing this or this.
- 1:50:27Like bro what the fuck what's the point?
- 1:50:30Thousands of dollars to fuck what's the point?
- 1:50:34Like what am I doing here? What's?
- 1:50:35Like what's the point of of of even doing it like?
- 1:50:39I guess me giddy is fun. Forget that some people.
- 1:50:42Run in some people run into that eventually they go, they go.
- 1:50:45They just wake up when they go. What the fuck am I doing?
- 1:50:47Because they realize they don't. They're not having fun anymore.
- 1:50:49That. That is scary, yeah, and I'm
- 1:50:53sure it happens. But you know, someone like me,
- 1:50:58I'm speaking for myself, obviously is I love what I do so
- 1:51:02much that even on my free time, I'm still looking up and
- 1:51:05searching the things, whether it be car pictures or whatever the
- 1:51:08hell it may be. I'm still doing it on my on my
- 1:51:10free time every single day still to this day.
- 1:51:15Today in the morning, I look forward to getting to the
- 1:51:19studio. I look forward to, to, to the
- 1:51:21next step. I look forward to getting more
- 1:51:26closer to the finished projects, to what I envision, to what I'm
- 1:51:30trying to make, to whatever it may be.
- 1:51:32I'm always excited to get there. And for someone who wants that,
- 1:51:41I implore you, keep working. It's worth it, that feeling of
- 1:51:46looking forward to your day. Like, do you know how many
- 1:51:49people probably wake up and they're, they're just like.
- 1:51:52Yeah, that was me when I had a job.
- 1:51:53Yeah, they just two months. Ago.
- 1:51:55Yeah, that was Carl and that's, I'm glad you brought that up
- 1:51:58because that was actually probably the goal of mine.
- 1:52:01That was probably the real goal, not a boss.
- 1:52:02It was I want to wake up and enjoy going to.
- 1:52:07Work. You want to enjoy your day,
- 1:52:08Yeah. You want to look forward to
- 1:52:09every step of your day. You want to you want to rush to
- 1:52:12this one part like I like. I used to work at Kohl's for a
- 1:52:16bit, OK. And when when I used to work at
- 1:52:18Kohl's, I would have a. Clothing, but the clothing store
- 1:52:21yeah, yeah, yeah. They don't paint cars in there.
- 1:52:23I. Was there, I worked there when I
- 1:52:25was like 1718 or something like that.
- 1:52:26So I had like a six hour shift, a like a 7 hour shift, whatever.
- 1:52:31I'll never forget getting in there, OK, and being like, Oh my
- 1:52:35God, OK, here we go. Here we go.
- 1:52:36OK. I got six hours, OK, Six hours.
- 1:52:39I would do all this shit. I'm working.
- 1:52:41I'm fucking putting clothes away.
- 1:52:42I'm helping this out. And I would look.
- 1:52:43Five hours left, 5 1/2. Hours.
- 1:52:45Left Oh my. God, I was like, how am I going
- 1:52:49to do this? And this is just the first week
- 1:52:51I'm working here. So now when I'm working, it's
- 1:52:55like, OK, I've, I've only been here an hour, right?
- 1:52:58I do something. I look, I've been here.
- 1:52:59Five hours. Oh my gosh, no, that's the
- 1:53:01worst. Yeah, but you had so much to do
- 1:53:04that day, so it's. Yeah, completely different.
- 1:53:06Imagine the other way every day. Imagine every day trying to rush
- 1:53:118 hours. OK dude, I, I, I wouldn't wish
- 1:53:14that on my worst enemy. Dude, that's a prison.
- 1:53:16Sentence That was two years ago when we had this conversation.
- 1:53:20OK, that this conversation that we had two years ago every day
- 1:53:25in the office sitting. Why am I doing this?
- 1:53:29Yeah, Carl was miserable. I.
- 1:53:31I wouldn't wish that. And I endured.
- 1:53:32It. Yeah, you know, there's life
- 1:53:35isn't pretty. I got bills.
- 1:53:37I don't. I can't just jump ship.
- 1:53:39I didn't plan. I didn't think I had to.
- 1:53:40I think that's an issue. Doing everything right.
- 1:53:43But right is subjective always, but I don't know if if somebody
- 1:53:48in there and there are who has like, I hate being in the
- 1:53:54office, I hate doing this, I hate doing that.
- 1:53:57If you really want it, make a plan.
- 1:54:00You're gonna get fired eventually.
- 1:54:02You're going to get fired eventually.
- 1:54:03Everything's in in your hands. I I, I love when I talk to
- 1:54:06people and they, like, complain about life.
- 1:54:09And sure, people's circumstances are difficult.
- 1:54:13Sure, people are dealt unfortunate hands, I'm sure.
- 1:54:16But for the most part, it's in your hands, yeah, it's in you.
- 1:54:21It's in your control 1. 1000%. If you're doing something
- 1:54:24shitty, don't. It's it's really that, that it's
- 1:54:32really that easy. I gotta pee that.
- 1:54:34That use a new bathroom if you want.
- 1:54:35He's no, he already did. Yeah, yeah, no, that's that.
- 1:54:39That two years was the most fucking excruciating shit until
- 1:54:44I got to talk to people like a or like Rad Mike or you someday.
- 1:54:49Rad Mike was dude, Rad Mike really fucking.
- 1:54:52That one was good. That one was good.
- 1:54:54This one is turning. Out to be 1 of this is.
- 1:54:55One of my fucking favorite ones. Don't tell him.
- 1:54:57Don't tell him that. Don't tell him he can't hear us.
- 1:54:59He can't get no. More we should put, we should
- 1:55:01put speakers outside like they have a Rogan studio so they
- 1:55:04can't hear, they can hear the conversation.
- 1:55:06No, that's so. Funny.
- 1:55:07So you're just, you're talking shit.
- 1:55:08No. And they're like, wait, what?
- 1:55:09If I'm in there and I'm trying to take a shit, Frankie just
- 1:55:13made a bathroom. You made good chunk of that
- 1:55:15bathroom that that wasn't a contractor, was it?
- 1:55:18Or was that you? No, it was a lot.
- 1:55:20Of or you just put the metal. On the wall, we didn't even do
- 1:55:22that. I I gave up.
- 1:55:24OK, we were going to, but we. OK, so you didn't.
- 1:55:26All right, well, there's a bathroom now outside of the
- 1:55:28studio, so you don't have to cross into the shop area, thank
- 1:55:30God. Which technically was an
- 1:55:33insurance liability. Yeah, of course, to think.
- 1:55:35About it. So now no more insurance
- 1:55:37liability? Yeah, drop the premium.
- 1:55:39Drop the Premier, right? Yeah, they should drop the
- 1:55:42Premier. I wanted to say so far because
- 1:55:44we're what, a couple hours in here.
- 1:55:45If you've enjoyed this podcast so far, make sure to drop a
- 1:55:47like. Don't forget to keep liking
- 1:55:49those. I don't even know what the likes
- 1:55:50are out, but you guys have pumped those numbers a lot.
- 1:55:53Did you know that there's 500 plus people in the discord?
- 1:55:56Whoa. I'm trying to be in there a
- 1:55:57couple times a week, but as you can tell from this conversation
- 1:56:02we've been having with Super Life K, we're all kind of busy.
- 1:56:06So the discord is that are you guys still use that mainly for?
- 1:56:10Gaming talking, not just simming.
- 1:56:13We play normal video games in there.
- 1:56:15OK. Do you play Call of Duty?
- 1:56:16I fucking want to do. You really?
- 1:56:19Yeah, I do. What console?
- 1:56:21But I just don't have any friends that play that shit.
- 1:56:22What console do you have? Oh shit, now Malcolm's going to
- 1:56:25roast me. Why?
- 1:56:26What is it? What is it?
- 1:56:27What? Is it I have like an Xbox One I
- 1:56:28guess Xbox. 1 isn't that the normal Xbox That's the newest.
- 1:56:32But everyone tells me I can't play the new one because it's.
- 1:56:34Like the new Call of Duty is probably not your shit.
- 1:56:35It's going to fucking sound like a jet plane.
- 1:56:37Oh, it's going to. But does that matter?
- 1:56:40Like I'll blow it up, I don't care.
- 1:56:41You're going to get the red rings or whatever.
- 1:56:43I don't fuck I. Don't know, I don't know for
- 1:56:45sure but I feel like it might not run it nicely.
- 1:56:47Dude, I know Quan just. Try it out.
- 1:56:50Quan and Ethan would love to play.
- 1:56:51Dude. Quan was in the military.
- 1:56:53Yeah, and Andy too. Andy was in the military.
- 1:56:55You guys could be talking about guns and.
- 1:56:57Shit, I wasn't, but I thought I was.
- 1:56:58No, yeah, you probably fucking. I'll play that bitch.
- 1:57:01I did when I was young. Yeah, yeah, definitely.
- 1:57:03Before I forget this, I just want to say this.
- 1:57:06We were talking about enough time in the day or whatnot and
- 1:57:10how it flips. So does so does Monday and
- 1:57:13Friday. When I come here on Monday, it's
- 1:57:16like Friday to me. I'm excited, I'm ready to go.
- 1:57:19It's a whole week gap on Friday gap.
- 1:57:22I'm miserable. I'm like fuck, now it's the
- 1:57:24weekend and I just got to try not to work.
- 1:57:26You got to find something. To look forward.
- 1:57:28I see. I see.
- 1:57:29I I enjoy OK, but working more than.
- 1:57:32You got to look forward to other stuff.
- 1:57:34Frankie, come on. Don't you feel that like?
- 1:57:37That's. It to me every day is kind of
- 1:57:40the same now. A little bit, yes, he used to
- 1:57:43feel like. Fridays were different because
- 1:57:44the weekend or whatever, but. Like if you.
- 1:57:45Work. I like to work Saturday.
- 1:57:47Yeah, like, yes, I like to work. And Mondays, though I really do
- 1:57:52enjoy Mondays. I love Mondays.
- 1:57:53Yeah, it's really cool. Especially if you had other
- 1:57:56people in there because then it's like, OK, now everyone's
- 1:57:58here, everyone, everyone might not be there on the weekend, but
- 1:58:00everyone's here on Mondays. So it's kind of like a fresh
- 1:58:02start. OK, let's let's kill this week.
- 1:58:05Let's fucking you know it's going to be good to.
- 1:58:06Really get it done. Yeah, then Friday comes and I'm.
- 1:58:08Like I like Mondays. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:58:10You just don't like end of the month.
- 1:58:12But yeah. End of the month is yeah,
- 1:58:14especially for me because I'm, I'm almost more in the office
- 1:58:18than anything else right now. Like I'm, I'm and I enjoy that.
- 1:58:21I actually enjoy accounting. I enjoy doing all that stuff.
- 1:58:26So it's fun for me. Numbers too.
- 1:58:28I like doing all the numbers and, and, and hitting certain
- 1:58:32goals and stuff like that. But like, even as we were
- 1:58:35talking about this, I was like, and you were like, yeah, it
- 1:58:37wasn't about money in the beginning, but now it kind of
- 1:58:38is. It's like, yeah, but that's only
- 1:58:40because it needs. To be, it needs to be.
- 1:58:42It needs to be to keep this thing.
- 1:58:43Like, yeah, and in my head, that means it's still not really
- 1:58:45about money. No, no, it's it just needs to be
- 1:58:48about a certain amount of money. You know what I mean?
- 1:58:50That's true. Yes, yes, Yeah.
- 1:58:51That is a good way to put it because I mean without that.
- 1:58:54You can't do anything. We're not going to be doing
- 1:58:56anything that that we're talking about.
- 1:58:58Like we couldn't, we couldn't do this.
- 1:58:59We couldn't have this space for everyone to come.
- 1:59:01Like it would not. It would not exist.
- 1:59:03So it wouldn't happen. I mean that, that, that goal
- 1:59:06though, I feel like, like with, like with anything, though, as
- 1:59:10time goes on, I feel like goals change.
- 1:59:14I feel like priorities change, responsibilities change, what's
- 1:59:17what's important changes. So I feel like the money aspect
- 1:59:20is like a fluid thing, whether it becomes important or not.
- 1:59:23It becomes important at times to get shit done, whether it be
- 1:59:25paying the bills, paying the mortgage, whatever it may be.
- 1:59:27But at all the times it's not yeah I like, I just want to
- 1:59:30work. Yeah, I just, I don't know.
- 1:59:32I was always. I didn't.
- 1:59:34I didn't want anything to be about money like that.
- 1:59:36I never wanted it to be like that.
- 1:59:37It's. It's it's sucks, man.
- 1:59:39It's it's sucks, but at the end of the day.
- 1:59:41Yeah. But then at the end of the day,
- 1:59:42it's like, I don't know if someone comes in here.
- 1:59:46And I mean, we already kind of set this place up, our labor
- 1:59:48rate. We set this place up so that if
- 1:59:50you don't have any money, you do not come here.
- 1:59:52Because I don't, because I don't even want to have that
- 1:59:54conversation of like, Oh well, my boy can do it for the.
- 1:59:58Yeah. No, no, no, no, we're not doing.
- 2:00:00That we're that's not where don't come.
- 2:00:02Here, but I feel like it gets to a point where when you become
- 2:00:06that good that those conversations leave.
- 2:00:10I love saying can you beat this price?
- 2:00:12Or I found someone else who does it better.
- 2:00:14And the labour rate really, really helps with that.
- 2:00:16But. Also thankfully, which I don't
- 2:00:18have to deal with a lot, I don't have a lot of competition.
- 2:00:22I don't have a lot of people that can compete as far as not
- 2:00:28skill, but as far as what your. Brain and vision, no one can get
- 2:00:32that key. I don't want to hide myself.
- 2:00:35No, no, no, no, no, no. No, no gas myself.
- 2:00:36Because look over here, I don't we got, we don't got that over.
- 2:00:39Here I don't want to, I don't want anything, but there's like
- 2:00:42competition as far as not many people do this aspect of work.
- 2:00:46So I never really got that kind of argument from the starter
- 2:00:50saying this other guy can do it or this other.
- 2:00:52Guy. Well, that's good.
- 2:00:53There's not a lot of guys, which is fortunate.
- 2:00:56And you, you also have your own way of doing it where you're
- 2:00:59like, you know, you vet the, the yeah, yeah, yeah, you go to the
- 2:01:02process. Yeah, I, I vet the yeah half
- 2:01:05because like how we were talking about the, when I'm interested
- 2:01:08in the work, it comes out better.
- 2:01:09And the other half is just time. I just can't take everything
- 2:01:12that comes in. I'm very fortunate and I'm very
- 2:01:14happy that the amount of people want to come to me to let me do
- 2:01:19what I enjoy doing to what I enjoy doing.
- 2:01:22Well, I'm very thankful for that.
- 2:01:24But there's only 24 hours in a day, only seven days in a week.
- 2:01:28I can only do so much so being I vet them out, I don't get a lot
- 2:01:32of those arguments anymore. Those a lot of a lot of those
- 2:01:35customers and anymore. So thankfully it's good.
- 2:01:39I used to have a lot of friends that would be like, hey, can you
- 2:01:42give me like a like a deal, a discount, whatever those are out
- 2:01:45the window now because they understand how busy I am now.
- 2:01:48It's not just the start anymore. This is literally my livelihood.
- 2:01:52But there was one time, I don't know, I just thought about it.
- 2:01:55Now, this old friend of mine, he reached out to me too.
- 2:01:59This was like years and years back.
- 2:02:00I don't even think I had the studio yet.
- 2:02:03And he reached out. He wanted me to paint his bike,
- 2:02:07tanks, things. So I don't know.
- 2:02:10I don't know bike terminology, the tank, and.
- 2:02:13Defenders. Defenders and whatever the hell
- 2:02:16yeah. Plastics or tins?
- 2:02:17That's the only. Two things.
- 2:02:18And it was it was like a Harley. So it's like metal shit, right?
- 2:02:21So he's like, hey, I want you to paint this.
- 2:02:24I said OK. Fine, So I told Peter his name
- 2:02:28was Peter. And I was like, yo, Peter?
- 2:02:29I was like, I'm going to paint it, but you got to let me do my
- 2:02:31thing. He was like, all right, yeah,
- 2:02:32cool. It's all right.
- 2:02:34So thinking about it, I'm like, all right, this is for a friend.
- 2:02:36I got to do good. I got to do whatever.
- 2:02:38So then I start, and I guess I went with this weird color
- 2:02:42scheme. I don't know why it just came to
- 2:02:44me, but it was like a weird color scheme and it was like a
- 2:02:48charcoal color with like, and it was like pink, purple and like a
- 2:02:53lighter purple. It was like all within this
- 2:02:55realm. And then I, I was like, I was
- 2:02:58like 50% into doing all, all, all all these patterns and I
- 2:03:02didn't send them a picture yet. So I told Peter I was like, oh,
- 2:03:06do you want to see the progress? He's like, yeah, absolutely.
- 2:03:10I was like, all right, cool. So then I, so then I, so then I
- 2:03:13send them the pictures and then he's not responding back.
- 2:03:16So I'm like, yeah, what the fuck?
- 2:03:19What the hell happened? So then he was.
- 2:03:21So then he texts me back. He's like, he goes, I'm not
- 2:03:24really a fan of like the colors. He goes, it looks kind of girly
- 2:03:28and this and that. And you know, to this day I
- 2:03:32apologize to Peter about it because I went off.
- 2:03:37He's like a childhood friend, man.
- 2:03:40Like we knew each other for so long and I'm like, what the fuck
- 2:03:42are you talking about? You could really like you're
- 2:03:45going to tell me what looks good?
- 2:03:47And I lost on on the phone and I was like, I was like, dude, how
- 2:03:53could you tell me? And it pretty much ended with me
- 2:03:55saying fuck it, I'm going to erase everything.
- 2:03:58I don't give a shit, don't even pay me.
- 2:03:59I'm erasing everything. If it's it's it's this or
- 2:04:01nothing. So he went bro like relax bro
- 2:04:04like what's your problem? Relax says no man, you can't
- 2:04:08tell me what to do. So after that he said OK just
- 2:04:12continue doing what? What Like continue doing it?
- 2:04:15I guess he, like he just wanted me to shut up.
- 2:04:17So I. Told you that's your boy.
- 2:04:19Don't take. 'Cause he could very finish.
- 2:04:23That job and he paid you and. Everything.
- 2:04:24So then I finished it and then he came by, he paid me and I
- 2:04:30guess he liked it when it was done.
- 2:04:31Or he was scared of you. Or or he was scared.
- 2:04:35And. Then to this day I'm still
- 2:04:37apologizing. I'm like, dude, I'm so sorry.
- 2:04:39I like flipped out on you, but that shit won best paint so many
- 2:04:44places that shit that that that bike showed at the International
- 2:04:47Bike Show at Jacob. Jacob.
- 2:04:50Javits, that thing won best paint.
- 2:04:51The thing won all this shit. So even though I apologize on
- 2:04:55how I approached it, I sound like but I was right.
- 2:04:59But you son of a bitch but. I was right.
- 2:05:02You know what? I thought this story was going
- 2:05:03to go. So I painted a.
- 2:05:05Pink, I painted a purple. I did this and then and then he
- 2:05:07didn't answer. He stopped answering me and he
- 2:05:08just texted me back and goes, bro, I'm in the Hell's Angels.
- 2:05:12There's some shit like it's an all black place.
- 2:05:15He comes up with a pink bike. No, no, it, it, it looked hot.
- 2:05:20But after that, after that time, I'd said I'm never doing work
- 2:05:22for friends. Yeah, again.
- 2:05:25So I never did work for friends. So everything like that now you
- 2:05:29can't you, you can't get the two mixed and involved.
- 2:05:32No, because I have a helmet with me where they get the kid.
- 2:05:34Kenny Colorado Kenny. Oh yeah, yeah.
- 2:05:37I mean, he, he was like. About anything you do for him,
- 2:05:39but yeah. I'm gonna just drop it off with
- 2:05:41you and just let me know when it's done.
- 2:05:45I'm the one giving him updates and shit because I'm like
- 2:05:47nervous that that's going to happen.
- 2:05:50Something like that. I'm not a painter, I hate it,
- 2:05:52but as a customer I would be like.
- 2:05:55Let me see. What colours do you like and
- 2:05:58what do you hate? Give me, give me something.
- 2:06:01Yeah, yeah, you know what I mean.
- 2:06:03Well. Probably half of it might have
- 2:06:07been my fault, inexperience of having that talk, but like I
- 2:06:13don't know it. Was one of your first jobs to
- 2:06:15not first, but it was one of your earlier.
- 2:06:17It was my first, I'm sorry I'm burping on the mic.
- 2:06:19It was one of my first bike jobs.
- 2:06:23OK. First, it was like first bike
- 2:06:24job. Yeah.
- 2:06:25So I didn't really do a lot. And I don't know, I, I, I mean,
- 2:06:30you could be calling it an asshole.
- 2:06:31I could call it passionate. I was passionate, passionate
- 2:06:35about the fact that it needs the pink, man.
- 2:06:37It needs the pink. So yeah, I did it and I was
- 2:06:41like, I'm never doing work for friends again.
- 2:06:43Yeah, yeah. It's just, it's just too much
- 2:06:45they. Unfortunately, half my customers
- 2:06:47are my friends. I was going to say this is very.
- 2:06:49Difficult. This is the first time that
- 2:06:51there's somebody's giving me creative freedom.
- 2:06:53So like that was I almost kind of want to credit him for making
- 2:06:57me feel all giddy sometimes when I go into the booth and have to
- 2:06:59like. I mean that is.
- 2:07:01And like. To have to do stuff with lines.
- 2:07:03Yeah, just something where I'm like, there's nothing on this
- 2:07:05helmet and it's a helmet. I mean, look, I mean, thankfully
- 2:07:09now it got to a point where people don't even, they'll just
- 2:07:13say dude, like, like do anything, do anything you want.
- 2:07:15I'm sure I'm going to like it and they like it and it's fine.
- 2:07:19But it it wasn't always like that.
- 2:07:21I had to have a lot of talks with them.
- 2:07:22I had to have update pics. But being that this was a
- 2:07:25friend, I was like, I'm not even going to update them.
- 2:07:27That was my mistake. I just want to say thank God for
- 2:07:31those people that exist that come to you and say just do
- 2:07:35whatever you want. I don't.
- 2:07:36Care what my. Own yeah 'cause.
- 2:07:37I can't even relate to that. I don't even understand that.
- 2:07:40Yeah, yeah, I'm, I, I mean, me myself.
- 2:07:42I'm so strong about the opinions of what I want on my own thing.
- 2:07:44I can't imagine. We all are very.
- 2:07:46Opinionated but but but here's the thing though, is those
- 2:07:49people understand that they're not as good as at choosing
- 2:07:53things as you are. That's like, I don't know me
- 2:07:55going to a place that does cabinets for for like.
- 2:07:59Kitchen and see, I can relate to that.
- 2:08:01What do I know about kitchen cabinets?
- 2:08:03Yeah. So you need to take the advice
- 2:08:06from the person who knows the kitchen cabinets.
- 2:08:08He goes hey you need to pick this because it opens like this.
- 2:08:10It works. Yeah, that's a really good way
- 2:08:12to put that. So the people that know, they
- 2:08:15don't know as much as you, they're not the ones that are
- 2:08:17gonna argue with you because they understand from the start.
- 2:08:20I'm in here because you know more than me.
- 2:08:22How do I get to this point with you and then that?
- 2:08:26Yeah, that's a good way to look at it.
- 2:08:27I never thought about it like that.
- 2:08:28I just thought in my head I was like, Oh well, you own a car,
- 2:08:31you're into cars, so that means you know what your car to look
- 2:08:34like. But I guess not.
- 2:08:35We all know that. Not that.
- 2:08:37You know, you can't buy style. Yeah, you can't buy what looks
- 2:08:40good. Just 'cause you have it doesn't
- 2:08:41mean you're good at it. Yeah, we all, yeah, we
- 2:08:43definitely all know. Yeah, people, definitely.
- 2:08:46Know that. Yeah, it's do you see cars that
- 2:08:48look like shit? Rich.
- 2:08:49Doesn't make your car sick. You know what really hurts?
- 2:08:52Now I'm seeing a lot because there's so many more imported
- 2:08:56cars now. Seeing JDM cars styled really
- 2:09:00bad by Americans is just it really hurts.
- 2:09:05Like. I really, yeah.
- 2:09:08I'm like, I'm like, Oh no, why did you take this and do this
- 2:09:12and why did you do this and like really nice cars, you know, and
- 2:09:16they just style them very bad. In my opinion.
- 2:09:19They're styled very bad. But seeing them, yeah, because
- 2:09:23there's, there's so many more important cars now, like
- 2:09:25changing cars, seeing them styled bad.
- 2:09:27It just proves you can't buy style.
- 2:09:29You know, I think we talked about this one other time, but
- 2:09:31talking about styles and stuff like that, you know, what kind
- 2:09:34of went away that whole like remove my rear bumper and put a
- 2:09:37wing on it mounted to the chassis.
- 2:09:39Thank God. That kind of went away, thank
- 2:09:40God. I mean, I don't know if it went
- 2:09:42away, but it definitely died down.
- 2:09:44Yeah, I'm over that. And thank.
- 2:09:46God, which was. Fun driving down the highway.
- 2:09:48I'm trying to think when I What Car I saw last.
- 2:09:50Time The worst part about it was they would take off the the the
- 2:09:53whole rear bumper, right. They'll put the wing right, OK
- 2:09:55that it's it's already bad enough then then the braces.
- 2:09:59Yeah. Dude, the the the the.
- 2:10:00Braces down. I'm like, bro, where are you
- 2:10:03going? It looks like fucking.
- 2:10:05What are those britches? Tension bridges?
- 2:10:07What's the GW? Bro you got the Verrazano on the
- 2:10:10bat. Literally bro, what are you
- 2:10:11doing? The worst part about that is, is
- 2:10:13when it's drifting too, and you see that motherfucker moving
- 2:10:16like this and I'm like, yeah, that's gonna come off.
- 2:10:20No suspension bridge. That's what I'm thinking of.
- 2:10:22Seeing these trends come and go is really wild, but I'm happy
- 2:10:27that one's gone, yeah. 'Cause I'm.
- 2:10:28Really happy that one. Someone was talking about that
- 2:10:30the other day, like, oh, what, what styles do you think need to
- 2:10:32die this and that? And I was like, I was like, I
- 2:10:34couldn't really think of anything.
- 2:10:34But then I was like, oh, that one actually did die, kind of.
- 2:10:37That one died. I'm, I'm, I'm happy that one
- 2:10:38died. I'm I'm happy.
- 2:10:39The spiked lug nuts. Oh yeah, 3. 26.
- 2:10:42Oh God. You're dying.
- 2:10:45Yeah. They're, they're, they're,
- 2:10:46they're, they're really shitty. I, I remember when I, I think it
- 2:10:51was my aristo back in 2013, 2014, something like that.
- 2:10:56It was cool to drive without a hood.
- 2:10:58Oh yeah, it was take. Off my hood and go through all
- 2:11:01this effort. Yeah, just.
- 2:11:02Drive without a hood. I'm like, yeah, you're right.
- 2:11:05That was a thing, yeah. And and then and then it would
- 2:11:07be a thing to to take off the bumper so you could see the
- 2:11:11front mount like while driving. It's like, why are we taking off
- 2:11:14panels? Yeah, the car to look cool.
- 2:11:17I definitely took my hood off when I crashed my shit and my
- 2:11:20whole front end was missing. I took my hood off because my
- 2:11:22shit was overheating like hell. Yeah, that's why I took my hood
- 2:11:26off. No, when you do it for.
- 2:11:28And at the trap when. You do it for purpose.
- 2:11:29That's different. Now it's lame.
- 2:11:31Now it's lame. Like I but.
- 2:11:33He's right that people did that. One of the most lamest things
- 2:11:37I've I've I've ever done and it's very embarrassing.
- 2:11:41To even. Admit is, I remember when I had
- 2:11:45again, I think it was my Aristo, I had a fiberglass bumper that I
- 2:11:48made and at that point in time, I guess it was cool for the car
- 2:11:51to look beat. I was.
- 2:11:53Like oh, this, This all came from drifting.
- 2:11:54Fucking drifts this shit. Wow.
- 2:11:56He's a fucking cool guy, man. Even the hood thing, everything,
- 2:11:59everything came. From that.
- 2:12:00So I had a fiberglass bumper and I forgot what happened.
- 2:12:04It cracked. I hit something and now I know
- 2:12:07what he's gonna do and like it cracked and I'm like, I want to
- 2:12:11do the zip tie, No. I knew it.
- 2:12:13I'm like but it's not that big of a crack yet.
- 2:12:16I'm such an asshole I cracked it more just so I could have more
- 2:12:20zip ties. On that fucking bumper, Like no.
- 2:12:25What the hell was I thinking? Dude, I lose sleep over that now
- 2:12:29I think about that. She was years ago.
- 2:12:30I'm like, I'm like, I can't believe.
- 2:12:32I got the bumper more I've I've done lame shit like that.
- 2:12:35I. I recall having this is back in
- 2:12:39high school my my second car was a eclipse.
- 2:12:42Alright, it was you. Now.
- 2:12:43Now, Frankie. I know she eclipsed.
- 2:12:45I know it second. Gen. 2nd.
- 2:12:47Joe, he loves that second Gen. I love that car.
- 2:12:49No way. Terrible.
- 2:12:50OK, that sucks, but. 4/4 ball. Automatic 28.
- 2:12:54Yeah, Automatic. OK, we're OK. 428, the engine
- 2:12:58sits the other way. The engine, Yeah, yeah.
- 2:13:00Yeah. It was absolutely ridiculous.
- 2:13:03So I saw I had this car and obviously it wasn't manual.
- 2:13:07So it was in high school and I wanted the car to look cool.
- 2:13:10You know, we're all watching Fast and Furious, we're watching
- 2:13:12Tokyo, we're watching all this shit.
- 2:13:13I want the car to look cool. We got no money, right?
- 2:13:16So I forgot I do something where I, I, I started getting made fun
- 2:13:21of the fact that the car wasn't, wasn't a manual car.
- 2:13:25So I'm like, damn it, it's automatic, damn it.
- 2:13:27So so I put AI put AI put AI, put a shift boot.
- 2:13:31No, over it, right? I knew.
- 2:13:33It so then I changed the shift knob to look like a manual shift
- 2:13:36knob, right. So that's not the worst of it.
- 2:13:38So now I'm just you know, I'm driving and I put the shit into
- 2:13:41DI got I freaking go 12-D22D right, just getting worse.
- 2:13:47I'm doing all this shit and then what's cool is like when, like
- 2:13:50when the car is parked, people look inside like, Oh, this
- 2:13:53shit's manual. So whatever, fine.
- 2:13:56One day I'm at I'm I think I'm about to leave school or
- 2:14:01something like that and a couple friends see me and they're on
- 2:14:04the corner and they're like they're like, oh, this shit is
- 2:14:07cool. Oh, it's stick.
- 2:14:08I'm like, you know yo the shit I do right I'm.
- 2:14:12Like oh, this shit is fire. What?
- 2:14:14So, so I'm like, yo, so then they're like, yo, we need a
- 2:14:19ride. Can you just take us, my God?
- 2:14:21So now I'm like, Oh my God, what am I going to do?
- 2:14:23What am I going to do? Right.
- 2:14:24So then I'm like, okay, yeah, cool, jump in.
- 2:14:26So the dude sits in the front. So I'm trying to hide the fact
- 2:14:30that there's no clutch pedal. So I'm like, you know, just fuck
- 2:14:34it. And I'm like, I'm just doing
- 2:14:35like I'm just dropping the shit into gear, the things going up
- 2:14:38and it's taken off and, and he's like, he's like, yo, like you
- 2:14:42gotta work on, you know, taking off from the clutch.
- 2:14:43I'm like, yeah, no, you know, you know, I'm still trying.
- 2:14:45I'm still trying to figure out. And he's like, he's watching me
- 2:14:47going from like 1:00 to 2:00 to D to fucking this.
- 2:14:51And like, and like we get there and like I put the shit in park
- 2:14:54and he's like, and I'm like, Oh no, I just, I put it in, you
- 2:14:58know, I put it in 3rd, you know, it's just, you know, whatever.
- 2:15:00And like I pulled a handbrake up and shit and then they like left
- 2:15:04and like obviously I, I don't know if they knew, but but they
- 2:15:07didn't say anything. But I think back I'm like, damn,
- 2:15:09that was so cheesy. I can't believe I was pretty
- 2:15:12impressed Once you're all. Got away with that.
- 2:15:13I pulled it off. I'm literally sitting there
- 2:15:16dropping this shit down. I'm just, I'm like, Oh my God,
- 2:15:19it's horrible. Funniest story?
- 2:15:21Yeah, yeah, it was. It was pretty embarrassing and
- 2:15:23like. That just got worse and funny.
- 2:15:25Enough everyone has a story like this because we all did corny
- 2:15:29shit. I Yeah, yeah.
- 2:15:31Drilled holes into a stock exhaust to make it sound more
- 2:15:34loud and all that shit. We all did really lame shit.
- 2:15:39But now looking back at it, it's just, you know, it's a stupid
- 2:15:42funny story that. Story's amazing.
- 2:15:44God damn I. Had to pull it off and like I'm
- 2:15:47like you know how I do it as soon as.
- 2:15:50Soon as. Cuz technically you didn't say
- 2:15:52no. You didn't say yeah either.
- 2:15:54Like yeah, yeah, yeah. As soon as you said it was an
- 2:15:58auto, I was like, Oh no, he's putting a boot on it.
- 2:16:01He's putting a boot on it. Crown Royal shift?
- 2:16:04Boot I. I had an ex-girlfriend that had
- 2:16:06an Integra like that and it had. A boot and I was like, what the
- 2:16:09and you know, the worst part about it is that wasn't like the
- 2:16:11like the only time, like I had so many cars that were not
- 2:16:16manual that I tried to make look manual.
- 2:16:19Putting the boot over I, I had a bug eye.
- 2:16:21I had AI had a WRX and I wanted it to be manual so bad.
- 2:16:27I, I didn't get it manual. I didn't know how to drive
- 2:16:29manual. So I just put a shift boot over
- 2:16:31and I, I, I the vents and meets it would look all right, but
- 2:16:34anyone in the car, it was just the most embarrassing thing
- 2:16:36ever. Yeah, my cousin and I put a lot
- 2:16:39of shift boots on automatic cars.
- 2:16:42God that that very embarrassing that you're building some of the
- 2:16:44best looking. Cars.
- 2:16:46I've ever. Seen.
- 2:16:47Yeah, that was just. Manual shift.
- 2:16:49Boots on automatic cars Some. Of.
- 2:16:50Some people from around the world and possibly in the US are
- 2:16:54probably like, God damn it, what the?
- 2:16:58Hell, if you were wondering why all those fucking automatic cars
- 2:17:00had shift boots on them. Dude, that was me man.
- 2:17:04Also, if you're wondering why the cars look so good now that
- 2:17:07you're creating is it's 'cause you came from stuff.
- 2:17:09Like that 'cause we fucked up so many.
- 2:17:11Cars like. Dude it's just we fucked up so
- 2:17:14many cars. I think about it like like my
- 2:17:18like my cousin bought a brand new Scion PC back in.
- 2:17:23Oh no. In. 2016 when?
- 2:17:25It was hot, yeah. 111. Commercial.
- 2:17:28The commercial you could monitor and share.
- 2:17:30The commercials. Were good like dude, the shit
- 2:17:31had like under 500 miles on it. We drilled holes into the trunk
- 2:17:35to put like a spoiler and A and a spoiler.
- 2:17:38I'm like, dude, we put neons under the car and we don't know
- 2:17:42how to wire up the thing. So the way we would turn on the
- 2:17:45neons, we we would open up the Bay and we would stick the wire.
- 2:17:48Into the on the battery, yeah. Yeah, and then close the hood
- 2:17:51and then just start. Driving when they were actually
- 2:17:53neons too, and that. Was actually when it was a neon.
- 2:17:55Yeah, it was like the hard. Strips, yes.
- 2:17:57Yes, the hard strips. It was sick.
- 2:17:59Wild. Why, Yeah, it was like we fucked
- 2:18:02up a lot of cars, but you fuck up cars and you learn how not.
- 2:18:06To fuck, of course. Yeah.
- 2:18:08Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like I had orange wheels.
- 2:18:10Ohh that's that's that's not bad.
- 2:18:12I had pink wheels on my. That was.
- 2:18:15That was a. Fit no, no, no.
- 2:18:17The the the, the fad was a teal like it was Tiffany blue.
- 2:18:22Yes, you remember, that was the thing.
- 2:18:23Everybody started spray painting their wheels Tiffany blue look
- 2:18:27any type of colored. Wheels now I think is just.
- 2:18:31I only like them absolutely. Yeah, I'm not a highlighter
- 2:18:34neutral color. I don't get that.
- 2:18:36Silver. Not really black wheels.
- 2:18:40Wheels I'll always love. Bronze, but yeah, the the
- 2:18:42catalogue colors, yeah. I like that.
- 2:18:44Yeah, I'm, I'm, I'm not a fan of my collar wheels.
- 2:18:47And back then we would just spray paint all the stock wheels
- 2:18:49just like. Yeah, spray bottles, you know.
- 2:18:51Gold or whatever plastic dip. Yeah, you.
- 2:18:54Fucking how? Many.
- 2:18:55Cars we fucked up with mine. Yeah, people who painted.
- 2:18:58The whole car. Actually, I feel so though I, I,
- 2:19:01I now know like I'm so happy I didn't dip my car when I when I
- 2:19:06wanted, when I wanted to, because there was that site dip
- 2:19:10on your. Car.
- 2:19:11Yeah, literally. So gay dude?
- 2:19:12Yeah. It's ridiculous.
- 2:19:14That's what I did. I had orange dip wheels.
- 2:19:16Made. Now I know anybody who dipped
- 2:19:18their car. They ruined their car.
- 2:19:20Yeah. There was no way that she was
- 2:19:21peeling off. Dude.
- 2:19:22It's. So.
- 2:19:22Long, yeah. We had a car in here that was
- 2:19:24plastic dipped and I was like fuck, we gotta take this whole
- 2:19:27thing have. You ever seen a Plaza zip car
- 2:19:29get dirty and how bad it looks? So bad.
- 2:19:32It's all grippy. It's very grippy, You.
- 2:19:33Can't wash it you. Yeah.
- 2:19:35Like it's just the worst. I spread the dirt around.
- 2:19:37It's I, I, I, I knew someone that dipped their car and they
- 2:19:41went to get a car wash and the way the thing looked coming out
- 2:19:44of the car wash was just like a joke it.
- 2:19:46Was like nothing more and more dull just like.
- 2:19:48Shit, yeah, it just looked like. Shit.
- 2:19:50And then vinyl came out and we still feel the same way about
- 2:19:52that. Vinyl.
- 2:19:53Just kidding. Just kidding.
- 2:19:54One of our spots. Vinyl, Vinyl and paint is a big
- 2:19:57argument. Yes, Yeah, yeah, yeah, the. 13
- 2:19:59that I painted Ethan's it's like that Subaru color that had the
- 2:20:04you replaced the door and when I was going to go prep the door, I
- 2:20:08like rubbed it and I was like no.
- 2:20:10No. No.
- 2:20:12Is this plasty dip on here? Oh yeah, dude.
- 2:20:15So then we had to sit there. I'm like, no, you're going to
- 2:20:18peel. You're going to do?
- 2:20:20Yeah, You brought. Me this.
- 2:20:22And like what you learn is the more plastic that you put on,
- 2:20:25it's, it's more, it's the more you put on, the faster it comes
- 2:20:31off. Yeah, people don't think that
- 2:20:33because so people don't put a lot.
- 2:20:35And when you don't put a lot, it's harder to come.
- 2:20:37Off and. Then you essentially mess up
- 2:20:39your whole car, your whole outside, and it doesn't peel
- 2:20:41right and it leaves residue. It's it's really bad.
- 2:20:44People leave how big of a thing that was?
- 2:20:45Yeah, it's gone. It's nice to see how far we
- 2:20:48came. As a.
- 2:20:49Species yeah I bet that guy's forearms are huge though on
- 2:20:53where the the the dip your R the dip your car that's.
- 2:20:56Still a big thing like. I don't know.
- 2:20:58I Malcolm, can you? I think it's still a thing and
- 2:21:01like the. Spokesperson was ripped.
- 2:21:03All I know is I'm like why has this guy got huge forearms
- 2:21:06trying to sell me? Plastic.
- 2:21:07It's probably still a thing in like, look at this, like away
- 2:21:11from the coast. There you go.
- 2:21:12I mean, listen, I feel bad now because this.
- 2:21:15Guy's 15. This guy's trying to make a
- 2:21:16living and I'm over here shooting on his thing.
- 2:21:18Hey man, we're a safe space. We're pretty far into the pod
- 2:21:21right now. I don't think Fonzie Fonzarelli
- 2:21:23has given us fucking IS. Is that what his name?
- 2:21:25I think that is because I told that from a core memory.
- 2:21:28I think that was really weird because I don't I don't remember
- 2:21:32that time. Imagine go up, go up to the
- 2:21:33center wheel. Imagine positive in that and
- 2:21:35trying to take it off there's. Pearls and tints.
- 2:21:38Dude they got color shift pearls I think that's.
- 2:21:41Nuts is. It is the paint glossy yet?
- 2:21:44Did we get to that? There's a, there's a, there's a
- 2:21:45clear. Yeah, they have a.
- 2:21:46Clear that you could put. Where is it?
- 2:21:49And the clear makes it shiny. So they sell Hyper Dip and they
- 2:21:52sell plastic. Auto flex Check Auto Flex
- 2:21:55Malcolm to the right. I don't know that.
- 2:21:56Most like a tab. Watch this.
- 2:21:59Oh no, it doesn't have anything. Pictures.
- 2:22:01Base coat, get the hell out. Of here Nah man none.
- 2:22:04I may but look sold out so. You're right.
- 2:22:07Clearly, people are buying. Yeah, I get it clear.
- 2:22:10That's crazy. People are buying this shit,
- 2:22:13yeah, but that was the thing, man.
- 2:22:15There was that was really a lot of trends that we've.
- 2:22:19Look at the finish on the on that one like the one the guys.
- 2:22:22Can tell it's shitty from here. Yo, this guy's spraying with the
- 2:22:25home. No, that's what they spray it
- 2:22:27with. Oh yeah, is.
- 2:22:28It it doesn't require like yeah. That's like home paint.
- 2:22:31It doesn't require to get thrown at the panel at like a rate, I
- 2:22:35guess that hey man, they managed to build a market on it and
- 2:22:40they're probably kind of rich look.
- 2:22:42So. Yeah, yeah.
- 2:22:43I mean for. Sure, but like we said, you go
- 2:22:46to. Yeah, money ain't a thing.
- 2:22:48No, I'm, I'm, I'm sure they're still making a living and doing
- 2:22:51their thing because there's still people that don't want to
- 2:22:54pay the obscene amount it is to restore their car and paint and
- 2:22:57all that shit. They want to do something
- 2:22:58themselves. Fine, but you have to be, you
- 2:23:03have to understand it's not going to look as good as it
- 2:23:06would you would look as. Good.
- 2:23:07Just know what you're signing up for.
- 2:23:08Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. It's.
- 2:23:10Kind of like, I don't know. Dude, I remember when that shit
- 2:23:13came out I think. I remember too, I don't know
- 2:23:16about when it that. Was a huge fucking deal.
- 2:23:19It was like you can paint your car and not have it be
- 2:23:21permanent. And now that's vinyl and it
- 2:23:24looks a lot better, but I still feel like vinyl is no.
- 2:23:30No in my. Eyes.
- 2:23:32And if you if you realize what you just said, it went from dip
- 2:23:38to vinyl. Both things being temporary.
- 2:23:42Everything that tries to fill its place is a temporary mod Is
- 2:23:47something temporary to the car where you have the possibility
- 2:23:50to somehow take it off down the line.
- 2:23:53Anytime something is temporary, it's never going to look as good
- 2:23:56as a permanent addition to the car.
- 2:23:58So those temporary things like tip and wrap and all that, not
- 2:24:05shitting on it again, just not my, it's not my preference.
- 2:24:08It's not going to allow the car to look as good as it can be.
- 2:24:11You know that that that's just it.
- 2:24:13But I'm sure if you see the Sema build and you go to see, you'll
- 2:24:17see shit like that and it'll still be up there, you know,
- 2:24:20like not taken away from that. To me, I don't know when I see a
- 2:24:23wrapped car like I'll just open the door.
- 2:24:26Yeah, yeah, I'm but what I'm seeing now, I would use that as
- 2:24:30but but the argument but now people are.
- 2:24:33They wrapped their jam. If I can open that door up and I
- 2:24:36can't tell that the car is vinyl wrapped, yeah, that's pretty
- 2:24:39fucking amazing. But I've had seen like they
- 2:24:41fucking. Get they get into.
- 2:24:43The gyms. They know I might be looking a
- 2:24:45little differently than the normal person.
- 2:24:47I mean like I'm going right to a.
- 2:24:49Not even opening the door when I look at like, let's say a car
- 2:24:52has the roof from the pillars, yes, into the quarter without
- 2:24:57any kind of break in the middle and there has to be a seam
- 2:25:00somewhere in the vinyl. I'm going to spot that seam and
- 2:25:04I see it because it's right on top, whether it be the quarter,
- 2:25:06whether it be whatever. There was this FD once at this
- 2:25:09show and it looked really nice and F DS have it's like a it's a
- 2:25:14seamless flow from the roof all the way into the pillars into
- 2:25:17the quarters. And unless you do it in one
- 2:25:19piece, you're going to have a seam right, right at the
- 2:25:22pillars. And I was 5 feet away, 10 feet
- 2:25:25away. I I could have already spot it.
- 2:25:27And that seam is just a killer that kills me.
- 2:25:30That's the real thing. I totally agree with that.
- 2:25:33Like right there, yeah. And I don't know, it's like open
- 2:25:37the hood. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 2:25:39Are you gonna are you gonna remove the engine, remove all
- 2:25:41the accessories and vinyl wrap the engine Bay and put that all
- 2:25:45back I. Just don't imagine if you're
- 2:25:46not. Then we're done.
- 2:25:48I don't like that because then bro there's chemicals and shit
- 2:25:52in there. Paint will sometimes fuck it.
- 2:25:54I don't clean it. You know what I mean though.
- 2:25:55The fact. That you could clean it and you
- 2:25:58can repair it. Yeah.
- 2:26:01I like that. Yeah, yeah.
- 2:26:02But some people, you know, some people don't.
- 2:26:04Some people don't look at the details like we do.
- 2:26:06So yeah, yeah, yeah. So they're like, oh, I want a
- 2:26:07different colored car right now, OK.
- 2:26:09Just a general thing, yeah, that's why you see a lot of high
- 2:26:12end cars go that route over painting because.
- 2:26:15You're gonna ruin the car. Yeah.
- 2:26:16Yeah, you don't. Want to load the car?
- 2:26:19You're wrapping 20 to 30,000 Lambo or.
- 2:26:22Just wrap the Aventador. It's wrap the Lambeau, it's got
- 2:26:25Ferrari wrap, whatever you gotta wrap.
- 2:26:27Don't ruin it like that. That makes more sense, but.
- 2:26:29When it comes to other cars, like if someone wants to fully
- 2:26:31do someone wants to Crestora R34 and they want to do it right, no
- 2:26:37one's going to go through all that process at the end of
- 2:26:39Rapids. Like, come on, it's a GTR.
- 2:26:42Let's let's do it right. It's a, it's a proper car.
- 2:26:44So when it comes for, for things like that, there's no other
- 2:26:47option than paint. No one's going to go through all
- 2:26:50that work, do all that bodywork and then and then wrap the car.
- 2:26:52At least not anyone I know. No, I don't know anyone who
- 2:26:55would take the engine out there's.
- 2:26:56Also just like the the overall like presentation, I guess, or
- 2:27:02like I guess what that product has to stand for.
- 2:27:05Like if you saw a there's like this old low rider called the
- 2:27:09Gypsy Rose. I heard it's like a it's a low
- 2:27:12rider that has like, I forget, bring that up.
- 2:27:14I forget how many roses are on it, but there's a lot and it's
- 2:27:16and they're all hand. You've probably seen this car,
- 2:27:19too. Honestly, I think I know What
- 2:27:20Car you're talking about. It has a whole lot.
- 2:27:22On their side is done too, and there.
- 2:27:23Was tons of roses. I forgot the count.
- 2:27:25It's like hundreds. Yeah, this car is famous for for
- 2:27:28the paint. Job the Gypsy rose.
- 2:27:29No, it's famous. It's called the Gypsy Rose
- 2:27:31because it was on a show called Gypsy Rose.
- 2:27:33Oh, oh, I see this and it was on the show for two seconds,
- 2:27:37literally. So they call it the Gypsy Rose.
- 2:27:38But like the what this has to stand for is like, I don't know,
- 2:27:45like somebody did that and old school way did that, which was
- 2:27:51painting. And I'd like to see a rap look
- 2:27:55like that, or have the OR hit the same, or have the weird
- 2:27:58imperfections in it that make it paint.
- 2:28:01Well, who the fuck? Is drawing that on a rap then
- 2:28:03you? Just here's the thing though is
- 2:28:05you can wrap that though you can exactly that.
- 2:28:08Yeah, but the problem is when you go up to it and you look at.
- 2:28:11That's the thing. Yeah, it's not going.
- 2:28:12To hit you know what it what it really comes down to is not the
- 2:28:17look of it if we're talking real like is not the look of it
- 2:28:21because let's say rap has gone so far you could print that out
- 2:28:24OK and wrap the car. So what it really comes down to
- 2:28:28is, is credit to the work and the time invested.
- 2:28:32Because when you go up to it and you see all the work, all the
- 2:28:35layers, all the paints, all the hand stuff, you're like, wow,
- 2:28:39that wow factor of investing that time is why it's what it
- 2:28:43is. Because you could print that
- 2:28:45out. You could print the roses out,
- 2:28:46print whatever. But once someone goes up to the
- 2:28:48like, oh, it's a sticker and then and then and then they're
- 2:28:50gonna walk away. It's done.
- 2:28:51Loses it, but if you go up to it, you see it's paint.
- 2:28:53Guess what someone's gonna be there for for for 20 more
- 2:28:57minutes for. For 1/2 hour.
- 2:28:58They're gonna walk around the car.
- 2:29:00At least someone who cares. They're gonna walk around the
- 2:29:02car. They're gonna look at
- 2:29:02everything. Not looking for imperfections.
- 2:29:04They're gonna look at every. Rose on that car, they're just.
- 2:29:06Gonna wow. So every flower on there is not
- 2:29:09the same like, because somebody had to draw it.
- 2:29:12Yeah, yeah. And brush it, airbrush it on,
- 2:29:14and then move down the entire fucking car in this whenever
- 2:29:18this car was made. But like you said, if you saw it
- 2:29:20and it was vinyl, it's you would just kind of.
- 2:29:22Attention to detail like you. Just kind of walk away.
- 2:29:25It's a sticker, yeah. Like it's not a perfect I.
- 2:29:27Love that the sides are not equal.
- 2:29:29It's nothing on. It is perfect, which is what
- 2:29:32tells me it's paint. Somebody took some time to do
- 2:29:34it, and that was during an era where they, you know, painting
- 2:29:38techniques have probably changed a little bit since then.
- 2:29:40Products have changed since then.
- 2:29:42Like it's just neat. Like I don't.
- 2:29:44Know it's. It's a different style than what
- 2:29:46I like. And I had recently done this art
- 2:29:49piece for a valve cover. It was for.
- 2:29:51It was for RB26. It was styled after R2.
- 2:29:57Oh, I think I. Saw it.
- 2:29:59From Starwood, yeah, yeah, there you go.
- 2:30:01So it took me a long time to do everything.
- 2:30:04I I was looking at everything and I wanted to apply it right.
- 2:30:07I wanted it to speak for itself as far as what I went for.
- 2:30:11Now, when I posted this on, I think it was on on Facebook, on
- 2:30:16Facebook is really screwed up with like the comments.
- 2:30:19People are really, really fucking angry.
- 2:30:21So people were like, oh, what a waste of time.
- 2:30:24You could have just gone that printed out and like it's like
- 2:30:27dude, you're missing the point. Though what are they saying the
- 2:30:29hydro dip it or whatever? Yeah, it's because because it's
- 2:30:32possible. Just because it's possible
- 2:30:35doesn't mean it's the only alternative.
- 2:30:37Yeah, but where's the cool? Fact like like like look how.
- 2:30:39Sick. That is like, like damn that.
- 2:30:41Looks. Sick all that tape work like if
- 2:30:43you go one back just laying all that shit down to figure what
- 2:30:48colors are going where, that's the most fun.
- 2:30:51That's the most fun. Yeah.
- 2:30:53So doing this shit is why the end result is impressive.
- 2:30:58Now someone could have printed it out and applied it, but once
- 2:31:01you see it, it's like, oh, it's a sticker and they're and then
- 2:31:03they're just going to walk away rather than saying oh, it's
- 2:31:06paint and like, holy shit, this guy went through every square
- 2:31:09and did all the different lines and did did did look like I like
- 2:31:12I had to make the middle even though it was flat.
- 2:31:15I had to make it looked like it was fence so so I would apply
- 2:31:19the lines and make it look like it was fading to make each event
- 2:31:22look like it was a part to make it look like there's some depth
- 2:31:24to it like it's going down. You know I.
- 2:31:26Love this, this is great. I'm also a star.
- 2:31:28Wars. I Remember Me and Diego saw this
- 2:31:30on your page and we were just like man, how the fuck does he
- 2:31:33come up with this stuff? Man, well, in all fairness, the
- 2:31:39the customer was like, here's what I want.
- 2:31:42Just do this. I want a theme like this.
- 2:31:44Do whatever you want. Look at the events.
- 2:31:46It's fun good. For you, I don't know.
- 2:31:49Yeah, yeah, you gave up, but that was fun 22.
- 2:31:52Things to say to that. The people in those comments on
- 2:31:54Facebook, that's the kind of world we're living in right now.
- 2:31:56Yes, where they care, but but we could.
- 2:31:58Do so much cheaper, easier. You could really tear apart
- 2:32:01someone not only having a fun time making a living.
- 2:32:05They don't care about it. Creating shit like oh just print
- 2:32:07it dude you're an idiot. Yeah, they don't care about it.
- 2:32:10You're. An idiot.
- 2:32:11What about that little cat you used to cover the what is that?
- 2:32:14The CAS? The So what was that dash train?
- 2:32:17Or no, that cap is for RB20 fives that want to run the Cam
- 2:32:26for because there's a Cam on that side where you get to run
- 2:32:32their version of VTech, which is the the Neo and the neo to run
- 2:32:38that because because it's ARB 26 the cover, it's going on an RB25
- 2:32:43for it to fit that part had to be had to be.
- 2:32:46Like it had to be. Extended out for it to have
- 2:32:49space on the inside for it to clear.
- 2:32:50So they sell that and you get to put it on your on your RB26.
- 2:32:55So being it was on there and I'm like, you know what I'm going to
- 2:32:57mold it on there and I'm not and I'm going to implement it into
- 2:33:00the styling to make it look like it was part of it and it works
- 2:33:03with the theme. It works with the theme that
- 2:33:06that Dome looking thing worked. It looked like an R2.
- 2:33:08I love it RB. 2 gave her a little story for Kay to be like,
- 2:33:13yeah, I was sitting at my desk. There was this bull, next bull
- 2:33:16and. I just.
- 2:33:17Put it on because I had a friend tell me something bullshit like
- 2:33:20that too, where it's like, yeah, I was just in my kitchen and
- 2:33:23here it is. I'm like what the?
- 2:33:25Heck. No, no, that was for to run
- 2:33:28their Neo. But just know, I hope you do
- 2:33:31know this, that people like us and others alike all thank you
- 2:33:36for doing stuff like this. Oh no, thanks for the interest.
- 2:33:39Man, and making stuff and then giving us like some sort of
- 2:33:43thing to work towards, to be better, to be better than you, I
- 2:33:48mean. The 12,000 people that like.
- 2:33:50Yeah, like parents, like what you told people.
- 2:33:52That hated it on Facebook. Like what you told Nakai.
- 2:33:54Like you're gonna be better than bro.
- 2:33:56I told her yeah. I was like.
- 2:33:58Dude, I was like, I'm, I was like, I'm going to be better
- 2:34:00than you. I was like, I work 100 hours a
- 2:34:02week so I could beat you. And yeah, it's the reason why
- 2:34:04people good hopefully. It keeps growing.
- 2:34:06Like this and. Everyone I teach, I, I always
- 2:34:09tell them I'm like, because they'll say something like like,
- 2:34:12OK, I want to do what you're doing because we all have
- 2:34:16someone that we look up to. When I was 18, I looked up to
- 2:34:19someone who was doing whatever it was.
- 2:34:20So these young kids when I helped them and like I wanna do
- 2:34:23that. I like, I wanna do what you're
- 2:34:26doing. I was like, no, do more than me,
- 2:34:28dude. That's the way shit gets better.
- 2:34:30Don't be like me, be better than me.
- 2:34:33Everything here, if someone taking inspiration from it and
- 2:34:36they wanna do it and be better, fuck it, take it dude, beat me.
- 2:34:40Please take it. Amazing, amazing.
- 2:34:42Especially if they used me as inspiration to be good, even
- 2:34:46better. Man, That's that's winning.
- 2:34:48Dude, that is it's winning when you do, when you post and share
- 2:34:51your work like that. That shit fucking keeps us
- 2:34:53going. I.
- 2:34:53Think we need Kay to come by once a year at least?
- 2:34:56Yeah, because then I can check in we get.
- 2:34:58We got, we got some motivation and everything, you know, I
- 2:35:01mean. I don't want to sound like a,
- 2:35:02like a like a like I preach. I don't want to sound like that
- 2:35:06at all. No, but it's nice.
- 2:35:07It's nice. Thinking out loud.
- 2:35:08You're saying you're? Saying like minded people.
- 2:35:10So it's I like. Having all the good things, man.
- 2:35:13I like the conversations we have, like there, Yeah, because
- 2:35:15then you have a you're talking. I can fucking sit and.
- 2:35:19Yes. And it's not many times I get to
- 2:35:21sit and talk about this kind of stuff.
- 2:35:23I think we were talking about the last time because I don't.
- 2:35:27I don't go to a lot of events or meets or car shows, whatever.
- 2:35:30It might be a little busy now. The social stuff is very
- 2:35:32difficult for me, so it's, you know, he said.
- 2:35:34That last time we were doing the video, he said social things are
- 2:35:37hard for me. I was like, well, you just
- 2:35:38killed this video and he he always kills it on podcast.
- 2:35:41You guys I'm. Like the last time, I don't
- 2:35:43really talk guys. I'm not an owner.
- 2:35:45Yeah, I'm not really a social. As a whole, RTD too.
- 2:35:48Yeah. No, I, I've, I've, I've always
- 2:35:52liked to be alone and do my own thing and I don't have a lot of
- 2:35:56social interactions. And I feel you.
- 2:35:58I guess then like the couple times I go to an event, a car
- 2:36:01event, I don't get a lot of it because I want to talk shit like
- 2:36:04this and people want to talk about other things that don't
- 2:36:06matter, which I don't want to talk about.
- 2:36:08So it's nice to have conversations like this.
- 2:36:11Where you can actually talk. Or I could talk about stuff that
- 2:36:14is going on, stuff what I'm thinking, where we came from,
- 2:36:17where we're going. I feel like most conversations
- 2:36:20now is like, yo, that video's sick.
- 2:36:23Yeah, that's like and it's like. Yo.
- 2:36:25I'm not sure if if if you saw this post, but dude cares about
- 2:36:30this. Yeah.
- 2:36:31So look at this. Look what I did.
- 2:36:32Like, what did you do? What did we do?
- 2:36:34What did? This or like, no, this is what
- 2:36:36this is what it is nowadays. Yo, look at this meme.
- 2:36:38Yeah, yeah, that's that's literally that's 2024.
- 2:36:43That's like 2025. That's it.
- 2:36:45Meme meme. These events are very difficult
- 2:36:47and you know, it's, it's, it's funny because like I get invited
- 2:36:52to go to meets or shows or events or whatever may be, and I
- 2:36:56don't go. And I, I, I always think it's
- 2:36:59bad for business because I should go out there.
- 2:37:01I should be, you know, networking and talking to more
- 2:37:04people, but at the end of the day, I want to be true to
- 2:37:07myself. This is why I got to do what I
- 2:37:09do. What I'm doing, why I'm doing
- 2:37:11it, is to do what I want to do and I want to work.
- 2:37:14I think it as long as you're as long as your work is out there.
- 2:37:17Yes, exactly. You don't need to market.
- 2:37:19That's that's my piece of mind. As I'm saying, you know what, if
- 2:37:21I put out enough shit, that's it.
- 2:37:25It'll make up for my lack of of being out there and trying to
- 2:37:28sell my work. I'm hoping that the word of
- 2:37:30mouth and how psycho I am with how I could I want to be does
- 2:37:35it's. I mean, that's a good part about
- 2:37:37your business. It's like everything you put out
- 2:37:39is literally a a billboard. Everything.
- 2:37:41Yeah, yeah. Yeah, it's a rolling yeah.
- 2:37:44Really. It's literally a rolling
- 2:37:45billboard, and it's because they're going to go to shows
- 2:37:47where other people need stuff done.
- 2:37:49Like it's. Yeah, that that is really cool.
- 2:37:51One cool, really good aspect of it.
- 2:37:53Did we get questions from Malcolm?
- 2:37:55Oh, we did. It's real freaky that I don't I
- 2:37:58never post anything about asking for work and I get work, so it's
- 2:38:02kind of nice. The industry is getting bigger
- 2:38:04than it's it's moving I. Think it's moving?
- 2:38:07It's moving. And you know, coming from a
- 2:38:10place where I've seen slow times and come to times where people
- 2:38:14really ask you to do a lot of shit, it's nice when you get
- 2:38:19people showing up. Dude, you're work done.
- 2:38:21You're empire, man. Empire.
- 2:38:23No Empire dude, I'm just having a good time.
- 2:38:26You. You built that, both of y'all.
- 2:38:29That guys really did that. Thanks, Carl.
- 2:38:31It's. Nice to hear that you're.
- 2:38:32Part of our second. To turn around and like, look at
- 2:38:35him. It's nice.
- 2:38:36No, it's nice when someone, when someone talks about it because
- 2:38:39we don't see it. So I know you.
- 2:38:41It's nice, dude. He he's over here.
- 2:38:43I'm happy on a Monday. Yeah, I'll come here.
- 2:38:45I'll come in here on Monday morning and you will not.
- 2:38:48Look happy. No, I'm.
- 2:38:50Happy I love my. I will say I cannot wait to
- 2:38:53fucking go. I'm now I'm like damn, hold on,
- 2:38:55go home and pay. Love it.
- 2:38:56Now you gotta go to the booth tomorrow anyway, so.
- 2:38:59I'm gonna, I'm gonna ask some of these.
- 2:39:01A lot of this we probably covered already, but this is a
- 2:39:04good one. How would super life make a 350Z
- 2:39:07look cool? I actually kind of like this.
- 2:39:10Question, I don't like Z30 threes at all.
- 2:39:14Yeah, it's hard. At all.
- 2:39:15At all. I the last one I did I did a lot
- 2:39:18of shit for it and it looked good and I just told myself from
- 2:39:24that one I'm never doing 1 again.
- 2:39:25Z30 threes Z30 fours I don't like I did a bunch of them I
- 2:39:30don't like anymore. I 34 I will turn them down I'm.
- 2:39:33Like. No, no, no.
- 2:39:35The newer Z No, no, no. Z370.
- 2:39:38Yes, exactly. Oh yeah, Z30. 2.
- 2:39:41And Z31 I like. Yeah, you you like 90s style I.
- 2:39:45Like 90s style. Yeah, yeah.
- 2:39:46And. Life's got more characters.
- 2:39:48That shit is doing OK. But do me a Malcolm C30. 3 is
- 2:39:52I'm not a fan. 2008 350Z Nismo and silver This is the only ZI
- 2:39:57like the. Shit from the poster.
- 2:39:58Nismo one is nice, right? Nismo 1 is nice, but like, it
- 2:40:03goes against what we're saying though, because you don't have
- 2:40:05to do anything. You don't have to do anything.
- 2:40:07Yeah, it just I want to get your opinion on this because.
- 2:40:09Everything down to the wheels was fire.
- 2:40:11We had a customer in here the other day.
- 2:40:12I wish we had those photos because that car looked good,
- 2:40:14but and and he he had this car and it's stock and he we just
- 2:40:20looking at something underneath. I said, yo man, not for nothing.
- 2:40:23This is the nicest Z I've had in the shop and and nothing's done
- 2:40:26to it. See, it's, it's nice because of
- 2:40:29that. Yeah, because for some reason, I
- 2:40:31don't know why Z's when they mod, they end up looking really
- 2:40:35cheap. The cars like go downwards.
- 2:40:37I don't know why. I think it's two things.
- 2:40:38That rear bumper. And that one is really nice.
- 2:40:42I wouldn't do like obviously I would add that out.
- 2:40:45I would keep the whole exterior. I wouldn't change a thing except
- 2:40:48the wheels. Wheels.
- 2:40:49Yep. Wheels and heights.
- 2:40:52Dude, the wheels. Stock wheels that things are.
- 2:40:54Those things are cool for stock wheels.
- 2:40:57I'm. Cool.
- 2:40:58I want to veto that. Yeah.
- 2:41:00I don't I I I think it could be. Better imagine on those wheels
- 2:41:04that you like, Carl. You know those Volks that you
- 2:41:05like? GTC's.
- 2:41:07Yeah, imagine the. GTC on.
- 2:41:08GTC Retro. That is.
- 2:41:12Yeah, I would change wheels and I would go height, but height
- 2:41:16wise. Even that one's ruined right
- 2:41:18there 'cause he tinted the tail light.
- 2:41:19Yeah, I'm trying to see why I. Didn't Malcolm go back, go back
- 2:41:22to that photo that you go up, go up, go up.
- 2:41:25That one on the left, That's how the car looked when it was in
- 2:41:29here. You see the red and the tail
- 2:41:30lights. Beautiful.
- 2:41:31Oh yeah, Yeah. Yeah.
- 2:41:32And then Nismo and then white, red.
- 2:41:34Yeah, that red silver. That rear bumper, that rear
- 2:41:37bumper looks really nice. Yeah, man, the the car is just I
- 2:41:40was like. But I I I hate those door
- 2:41:44handles. I hate 7. 32 I hate the doors.
- 2:41:46I hate. Everything so much.
- 2:41:48You know what I don't? I hate that pillar panel.
- 2:41:50That's not that additional panel that comes off that.
- 2:41:52Breaks and then it costs 500. Dollars you cannot.
- 2:41:54Suck out of them. Dude, you can't see enough.
- 2:41:56Yeah, I'm not the tallest person in.
- 2:41:58Here and and and. Look, I'm I'm I'm only speaking
- 2:42:00from a exterior perspective. I'm sure the car drives well.
- 2:42:04The car drifts. Really.
- 2:42:05Obviously people are using them on the track.
- 2:42:07I don't know enough about that aspect to say anything, but just
- 2:42:11going from looks wise there wouldn't be a lot to do.
- 2:42:13I would just. Lower the hell out of type shit.
- 2:42:16And put some gaudy ass wheels on.
- 2:42:18Yeah, I love. Gaudy ass wheels, yeah.
- 2:42:21I. Feel like if the 350Z was
- 2:42:24lightweight like an S chassis and it still look like that, I
- 2:42:28might like it a lot more. Every time I get in that car and
- 2:42:30I drive it, I'm like, why do I feel like I'm in a fucking?
- 2:42:32Cars are not. Cars are not like that anymore.
- 2:42:35No cars, that was. That was 2000.
- 2:42:37Five car. I know that was.
- 2:42:39Through STI with all-wheel drive weighed less than that It was a.
- 2:42:43Company of age car. Company of age car.
- 2:42:46These these Z's are always way too heavy.
- 2:42:48Even a Z32, it's too heavy. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:42:51Yeah, I mean. I mean, they are.
- 2:42:53Very heavy guests. These are heavy. 3400 pounds,
- 2:42:563400 lbs is what my guess was. Or more, I would say probably
- 2:43:00more. 36 What is the? Trick O36.
- 2:43:04On the high end convertible, yeah.
- 2:43:06It's got to be 36. So I'm I'm a little wrong?
- 2:43:09It's 2033. That's that's actually not that
- 2:43:13heavy. Yeah, that's not that heavy.
- 2:43:14See. That's heavy. 31 is not heavy.
- 2:43:16That's heavy to me because if you look at an S15, go look at
- 2:43:18S15 weight and that car was two I hope 2-3 years before.
- 2:43:22I hope it's close. As no it won't.
- 2:43:23Fuck, it won't be 2800 lbs. That's what a rear wheel drive
- 2:43:27car should weigh. OK, so a pair of seats and the
- 2:43:30spare tire and then someone's going.
- 2:43:31To say oh, but it's got AV6 OK cool.
- 2:43:33So it's slower and and it's hyper.
- 2:43:36Yeah, OK, cool. Torque.
- 2:43:37You got torque. No, yeah, stock for stock the Z
- 2:43:39is faster than this car, but I'm just saying potential is ruined.
- 2:43:44The IS is 3300 lbs. No, yeah, I know.
- 2:43:49But it's a four door. It's a luxury sedan.
- 2:43:51Yeah, there's a lot of. Shoe door.
- 2:43:54It's a sports car and it's rear wheel drive.
- 2:43:56All I'm thinking of with the Z is like when you peel the door
- 2:44:00skins and everything like that. How much space like negative
- 2:44:04space there? Is, yeah, yeah.
- 2:44:05Skin to interior, it's a. Fat call.
- 2:44:09Yeah, I see. I see it's fat.
- 2:44:10It's got a lot of air in there. Yeah, it's just.
- 2:44:12One of those things like they they could have went from the Z
- 2:44:1432. The Z 32 was twin turbo, right?
- 2:44:17So it's like, and you know, it's even scarier.
- 2:44:19The Z 32 might be heavier than that.
- 2:44:21Yeah, yeah, yeah, which is fucking.
- 2:44:22I wouldn't say yeah, yes, Turbo. 'S I think were very heavy,
- 2:44:25yeah, especially. Like this, it's the same weight.
- 2:44:29Especially like 2 + 2 and all that.
- 2:44:31Quick shout out, Malcolm. Holy crap.
- 2:44:33It's the same weight, if not, if not heavier.
- 2:44:37Z3230 four, 100 lbs for A2 plus. Yeah.
- 2:44:41What was that? Is that the Backseat 1?
- 2:44:432 + 2 yeah, yeah, yeah. Backseat one, yeah.
- 2:44:45TT hardtop fucking 30 Oh my God. 3500 lbs with AT top.
- 2:44:50You, you, you. You know what's also very heavy?
- 2:44:52I I realize this is the 3000. Oh yeah.
- 2:44:58Yes. I I I read that's almost 4000.
- 2:45:01Pounds yo, bring that one up. Why are we talking?
- 2:45:03Wait? Well, I'm sorry, I just.
- 2:45:04Checked 3000GT. Why are we talking?
- 2:45:06GT and Z32 are the same. To me that's like the same type
- 2:45:08of. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:45:09Yeah, one of these today. Or look at that one right there.
- 2:45:13Yeah, look 4. 1000 Malcolm hit Show More VR4.
- 2:45:16Yeah, see. OK, but here's the thing.
- 2:45:18Here's the thing. It's a.
- 2:45:19It's a vert. So you basically took you
- 2:45:21basically took AZ 32 and you added an all-wheel drive.
- 2:45:25So it's only going to go up. So look, VR4 is all-wheel drive,
- 2:45:28convertible is Spyder 4100 lbs. 4100 lbs dude, that's my God
- 2:45:34that that's like a mid sized truck dude so.
- 2:45:36When people ask coins why I don't like those cars, that's
- 2:45:39like a that's. One of those that's like a
- 2:45:40crossover, man. It's.
- 2:45:41Crazy dude. That's.
- 2:45:44Now OK now let's end this on a on a good note.
- 2:45:46Look up the car you like. Now what is the Dodge Hellcat?
- 2:45:52The. Stealth.
- 2:45:53Oh, never mind the the the one you like.
- 2:45:56That's crazy. That's like them.
- 2:45:57I do like. 4400. Pounds.
- 2:46:00That's different. Hellcat, dude, Really.
- 2:46:02That's the car. You like that shit?
- 2:46:03That hellcat that thing gets, that hell yeah dude, that thing
- 2:46:07gets pulled by the Earth itself, that is.
- 2:46:12Just 4400 lbs. To be honest with you, that's
- 2:46:15less than I thought it was going to be.
- 2:46:16So yeah, I mean, for an American car built when it's built,
- 2:46:19that's actually not bad. Yeah, there's got to be an
- 2:46:22occasion where how many? I'm AI was a weight nerd with
- 2:46:25cars. I don't know why.
- 2:46:26Yeah, I mean, to me, weight doesn't matter because I'm, I'm
- 2:46:28a fan of four doors and bigger cars.
- 2:46:30Yeah, yeah, bigger bodies, Yeah. So weight doesn't matter at all.
- 2:46:34It was weird. I always was about, I don't
- 2:46:35know, it's probably because I had a Mini Cooper.
- 2:46:37It's how I care about. Power and all that shit.
- 2:46:40So weight doesn't really matter. Mini Cooper.
- 2:46:42Yep, I had a Mini Cooper once and that was all.
- 2:46:44That was the big thing. It was like it was all about
- 2:46:45weight. You know, you had to have the
- 2:46:47lightest car, dude, you would have.
- 2:46:49That's what it. Is you would have hated me if I
- 2:46:51won this doohickey on the Internet the other day, did you?
- 2:46:53What? Was it friend of ours Kyle
- 2:46:56Reedy? I think he lives in
- 2:46:56Massachusetts or something. Raffling off his first car.
- 2:47:00OK ready. First car was a 50s Ford clean
- 2:47:05title running driving Flathead V8.
- 2:47:08OK yeah he had a raffle. I'm not a raffle guy.
- 2:47:10I bought spots into that raffle bro.
- 2:47:13Why? Because I don't know it ran and
- 2:47:15drive. I thought it would be cool just.
- 2:47:16What is the driveway called around?
- 2:47:18You know what it's called. Fuck.
- 2:47:19Do I? Yeah, I don't know shit about
- 2:47:20those. Cars, we're up here.
- 2:47:22I'm appreciating it from up here.
- 2:47:24Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm just looking down on it.
- 2:47:26I thought it was cool. I don't know if you've ever
- 2:47:28been. I know he hasn't been yet.
- 2:47:30The race of gentlemen in well. Oh, no, I yeah, I always wanted
- 2:47:33to go. It looked cool.
- 2:47:34You need to go. Yeah, it looks cool.
- 2:47:36You need to go. We all need to go this year
- 2:47:38dude. That was the best event I've
- 2:47:39been to. Really.
- 2:47:41What's funny is I don't think I was doing anything that day.
- 2:47:43Yeah, yeah. I think you were.
- 2:47:45Yeah, it looks cool. I think I was, yeah, No.
- 2:47:47But I felt bad either. Way no, but I think you were.
- 2:47:49I wasn't doing anything that day.
- 2:47:51Really. Yeah, my bike was just broken.
- 2:47:53And then you know what I heard? I was like, oh, maybe they
- 2:47:55didn't invite me, Maybe they didn't invite me because they
- 2:47:57didn't have bikes. Nope.
- 2:47:58Somebody didn't ride bikes and they were all over there.
- 2:48:00I. Know car's mad sick but.
- 2:48:04Do you have a water? I wish I did, honestly.
- 2:48:07My mouth is so dry. I think we have beer.
- 2:48:10No, no we don't. We don't.
- 2:48:11We don't. But we can get.
- 2:48:12Yeah, we're let's, let's, let's finish this up.
- 2:48:15No. No, no, it's good dude.
- 2:48:16No, no rush. I just feel like I'm so.
- 2:48:19The problem is the water store where we get water.
- 2:48:22They've been closed down for the it's called the water.
- 2:48:25Store the water store? Is that actually?
- 2:48:27Literally, yeah, it's up the corner.
- 2:48:28It's. Real.
- 2:48:29And we get water from there all the time.
- 2:48:30And they're like, oh, we're we're closed for renovations.
- 2:48:33And I'm like, oh, OK, I guess we'll all just die.
- 2:48:35But. Let's let's get more questions.
- 2:48:37Oh shit. I know we probably.
- 2:48:38You're going to say you were going to end it.
- 2:48:40I know. I know, I just.
- 2:48:41I'm kind of thirsty. I'm kind of hungry.
- 2:48:44Yeah, you're right. Are they?
- 2:48:45Why don't you pick? A couple good ones so I at
- 2:48:46least. Yeah, yeah.
- 2:48:47I just feel bad if I don't, you know what I mean?
- 2:48:48Yeah, all good dude. No, no problem.
- 2:48:51Thank. You for taking the time though,
- 2:48:52Kay, especially now that I know you're working nights, which is
- 2:48:56strategic of you. Yeah.
- 2:48:58I mean, it's really. You found a way to make it.
- 2:49:00Work out? Yeah, it's worked out pretty
- 2:49:02good, thank God. I.
- 2:49:05Just the way people word things on here is so ridiculous.
- 2:49:08What was that like? Like this one?
- 2:49:10OK, for example, if you were working on a rusty car you
- 2:49:13didn't expect to be rusty, would you twerk it?
- 2:49:16What does that mean? I don't know, twerk it.
- 2:49:18But does it mean? What does he mean?
- 2:49:19Would you keep working on it? I don't.
- 2:49:21I don't know would. I twerk it like do they mean
- 2:49:23like, I don't know, like like say what?
- 2:49:26This is why I'd have to read them before I say well.
- 2:49:29But a lot of these we already answered for sure.
- 2:49:33Lewis, the owner of the car outside the Stagia.
- 2:49:35OK. He said thank you for doing the
- 2:49:37splitter on the Stagia. Let's do another collaboration
- 2:49:40on an older JDM. He's got a Honda I think he may
- 2:49:43be talking about. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:49:45Dude, he was. He was good to work with.
- 2:49:47Yeah, Yeah. He was excited when it was fun.
- 2:49:50Yeah. He's like, I'm gonna, I'm gonna
- 2:49:51ask Kay. You know, I think he listened to
- 2:49:52the podcast and everything. Everyone knew that you were
- 2:49:54like, picky. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:49:56So he was like, I don't know what's gonna happen.
- 2:49:57He's. Like sending it to college?
- 2:49:59Yeah. Yeah, it's so intimidating.
- 2:50:03Now, that's good to reach out, but I don't want to give that
- 2:50:06kind of reputation for people to even be scared to reach out,
- 2:50:09because let's say he was scared to reach out for a small job
- 2:50:12like that, I would have never had the fun to do something like
- 2:50:15that. And that looked like a fun job.
- 2:50:16And it was a fun job, so it was good to make.
- 2:50:19That should work. Also that lip doesn't typically
- 2:50:22fit it so. You made it it.
- 2:50:24Was fun, yeah. That's kind of though.
- 2:50:25Not to mention, I mean, he imported that thing.
- 2:50:27He paid a lot of money for it. Yeah, yeah.
- 2:50:29He had told me he went through the whole process of doing
- 2:50:31himself, so he was pretty bummed.
- 2:50:32I think he wants to do something with like the Rockers.
- 2:50:34Eventually something had to get done.
- 2:50:36So I think we're gonna do some more work on that car.
- 2:50:38That's awesome, Zach and Steve, the guy we had on here earlier.
- 2:50:43Yeah, the other podcast. You know, Zach, I think because
- 2:50:45I think you brought him up. Maybe you don't, I'm not sure,
- 2:50:47but I thought you said that the other day, but I don't think so.
- 2:50:50He said not a question, but homie's real talented, and he
- 2:50:53just gave you a thumbs up. I really appreciate that.
- 2:50:55You got to check him out too, because yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:50:57He's got a small fabrication shop.
- 2:50:58Check him out. Yeah, and and the shit he does
- 2:51:01out of this, it's literally his parents garage, the site I.
- 2:51:03Love that shit. 11 car garage. Unbelievable.
- 2:51:07So impressive for people to put out cool work in unconventional
- 2:51:11places. Yeah, exactly.
- 2:51:12So it's it's very cool. But yeah, anyone who says
- 2:51:17something kind like that, especially when they're in the
- 2:51:18craft, very much appreciated. I.
- 2:51:22Always thank them. I I feel the same way.
- 2:51:23No, no, thank you. Yeah, that's.
- 2:51:26Oh, wait, wait, wait, wait. What are some trends you'd like
- 2:51:29to see more of or less of? Is this your wife?
- 2:51:35Yeah, yes, it is. I had a feeling.
- 2:51:37I had a feeling I've seen the name.
- 2:51:38Before what'd you say? Like, oh, he's cutest, No.
- 2:51:41No, no, she said, She said. What are some trends you'd like
- 2:51:43to see more of or less of? But we kind of went over that.
- 2:51:45I. Yeah, Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:51:47We, we kind of went over them and any of any of the trends I
- 2:51:50want to see more of is usually things that are so radical that
- 2:51:55it's not going to be a trend. So so like, it's weird all the
- 2:51:59things I want. Yeah, yeah.
- 2:52:00It's more unique stuff, yeah. But yeah, there's a lot of
- 2:52:02things that we said that we're happy that they're gone.
- 2:52:05Yeah, that the fucking the. Suspension.
- 2:52:08Suspension bridges hanging off the back of the car.
- 2:52:10We're done. With that, with the little like
- 2:52:13adjuster thing for the tension. Yeah, like you could see it.
- 2:52:16It's with the middle. A lot of that shit came from
- 2:52:19racing with the front defusers but like they just made it into.
- 2:52:22They ruined it, man. Yeah, they they really think
- 2:52:25because so it did have a purpose.
- 2:52:27It started with a purpose and it just trickled down.
- 2:52:30It just trickled down. You know, when I went to, I went
- 2:52:34to college for fashion and we would learn this thing where
- 2:52:39things would either they would trickle up or they would trickle
- 2:52:42down where this would be. It's trickling down from
- 2:52:45something that actually works. It was a thing and then it
- 2:52:50trickled down to, to the people that don't know what it's
- 2:52:53originally used for and then ends up looking trashy.
- 2:52:56It got to that point, it trickled down and it got to the
- 2:53:00point where now for the people that even use it for functional
- 2:53:03reasons, it looks bad now because the general public are
- 2:53:07just making it look real bad. Yeah, that's a lot of things.
- 2:53:10But On the contrary, trickling up, trickling up, they would
- 2:53:14like make it more work. Better trickling up would be
- 2:53:18like an example would be like, let's just say for example,
- 2:53:21would be a manufacturer showing their car with really low
- 2:53:27fitment or now making cars really low with like wide wheels
- 2:53:31because they saw what was big on the streets people were doing on
- 2:53:35their own. Like let's just say for example,
- 2:53:38manufacturers saw that people were going wide.
- 2:53:41So now manufacturers know that they make wide Fender flares.
- 2:53:45They do all this shit because that's what was big on the
- 2:53:47streets and then it trickled up to being manufacturers.
- 2:53:50Now. So that's what like it would
- 2:53:52applied the same way, yeah. That's a good example.
- 2:53:54Yeah. I feel so bad.
- 2:53:55We don't have a water for you. All right, let's end this
- 2:53:57podcast. Good.
- 2:53:57Brother. It's all good.
- 2:54:00Thank you for everything. Yeah.
- 2:54:01Thank you. This.
- 2:54:02Is not always man. I try to talk to these guys
- 2:54:05about what I do on my free time, so it's really nice to even just
- 2:54:11get to hear things that you were able to pass down to me just
- 2:54:15now, dude. Of course then.
- 2:54:16I really, I wish you all the best dude.
- 2:54:19I'll tell. The journey of yours, you have a
- 2:54:20better idea? How fucking much That changed a
- 2:54:24lot of how I see my hobby now. You're going to look back at
- 2:54:28this time as your most favorite time because when you're on the
- 2:54:33come up and you're trying to learn, it really is the best.
- 2:54:36It's so exciting. Dude, I just.
- 2:54:38It's it's it's so. Exciting.
- 2:54:39I can't get enough. I don't know it's.
- 2:54:40Fun, it's the best. Enjoy it.
- 2:54:41Enjoy it everyday. That's why we're doing it.
- 2:54:44Enjoy it. All this shit everyone.
- 2:54:47When you're doing it, enjoy it or don't fucking do it.
- 2:54:50That's the best way to end this. Thank you so much this has been
- 2:54:53episode I don't even know 100 and something they're never
- 2:54:56going to stop. Thank.
- 2:54:58You 420. Yep, we're going to be on for
- 2:55:01that. Oh yeah, peace.
- 2:55:04Bye. It's fucked up, though.
- 2:55:06I think we promised that one to Hayes.
- 2:55:08What? 4/20 for 4/20.
- 2:55:13Yeah, and with that, Kay has left the building.
- 2:55:15Yes, a living legend, if I do say so myself.
- 2:55:18Yeah, I mean, that episode was, I say it every time, but that
- 2:55:23episode was one of the one of your favorite.
- 2:55:25It really was though. I'm sorry, what did you think
- 2:55:28about? It it was a really good episode.
- 2:55:29You were a spectator, basically. Yeah, it was.
- 2:55:32I was listening intently the whole time and it was a great
- 2:55:36listen. And if you notice, Carl wasn't
- 2:55:40interrupting that much. Yeah, because that's his.
- 2:55:42That's his mentor. Yeah, say the least.
- 2:55:45Yeah, you're right. Not a mentor but and you know,
- 2:55:47not an idol but. Not to talk to you about, not to
- 2:55:50talk to you about shit about Carl, but when he when Carl said
- 2:55:54that he did something and then he didn't agree with it and he
- 2:55:57told him that Carl actually took the advice.
- 2:56:01Oh, yes, yes, yes. Like in the in a normal
- 2:56:04situation with Carl, he would he would clap back, fight back.
- 2:56:08Yeah. But no, he didn't you.
- 2:56:10Yeah. If it was me, he would miss
- 2:56:11screaming at me. But he took the advice and I was
- 2:56:13like, oh, that's cool. So obviously Carl really
- 2:56:17respects him and kind of use him as a mentor.
- 2:56:20I would say. Yeah, probably is true, but.
- 2:56:23Because he's he's at a spot where Carl would like to be one
- 2:56:26day and you got to respect somebody like that.
- 2:56:30Yeah, Carl. Carl knows that.
- 2:56:34Carl's smart, man. Carl's smart.
- 2:56:36We don't give him enough credit. When he needs to take advice,
- 2:56:39he'll take it. Yeah.
- 2:56:41Yeah, and he when he pulled out the notepad.
- 2:56:44Where did that come from? I was like, OK, he.
- 2:56:47Was like in a jacket or something.
- 2:56:48I don't know, guys, I think we're I think you guys are
- 2:56:50getting a front row seat to watch Carl mature over this next
- 2:56:53year. Yeah, I think 2025 is going to
- 2:56:55be his year. But yeah, thanks.
- 2:56:56Thank you for listening. I I really enjoyed this episode.
- 2:56:59I hope you guys enjoyed it. We also have something else
- 2:57:02coming for you. Me and Eddie went down to Super
- 2:57:07Life and we filmed a our first shop tour video and Eddie is in
- 2:57:11the middle of editing it right now.
- 2:57:13I guess I'm going to break the 4th wall.
- 2:57:16Eddie, you think that's going to be done by Friday?
- 2:57:20He's worried, he's worried, but he thinks it's going to be done.
- 2:57:22Damn. So.
- 2:57:24Crunch time. He's locking in so.
- 2:57:26We might. We might have this done you.
- 2:57:27Literally have probably 24 hours.
- 2:57:30Yeah, we might have this video done for tomorrow.
- 2:57:32I, I personally think it's going to be, I think it's going to be
- 2:57:35the best video Eddie has ever done for us for sure.
- 2:57:38And I think it's going to be one of our best episodes that's ever
- 2:57:41come out on our YouTube. So I, I think you guys are going
- 2:57:44to be excited for that or, or you guys are going to be excited
- 2:57:45when you watch that. I got to see some of it earlier
- 2:57:49or before the podcast last night and Kay was stoked on it.
- 2:57:54Yeah, you, you just saw what a minute snippet and he was like,
- 2:57:57wow, this is amazing. Yeah, we watch a lot, decent
- 2:57:59amount of it, but it should be around 20 to 30 minutes long.
- 2:58:02And it's it's not nice. It's a nice, like it's a nice
- 2:58:07tour of his shop and you get to like see how his brain works a
- 2:58:10little bit and you get to literally see how the layout of
- 2:58:14his shop is and what he does like on a normal work day.
- 2:58:17So yeah, it's definitely awesome.
- 2:58:18I, I can't wait to do more of these shop tour videos, but
- 2:58:22yeah, make sure you guys check that one out.
- 2:58:24If you haven't already, please subscribe to our YouTube.
- 2:58:28We are trying to hit a certain number of subscribers this year
- 2:58:31and it would definitely help us out if our if our podcast
- 2:58:34listeners checked out our YouTube and yeah, what's going
- 2:58:40on in the shop. The shop, we got a lot of cars
- 2:58:44in here getting them pumped out as the week go by.
- 2:58:48As the weeks go by, if you're local or in tri-state area, come
- 2:58:52down, get your car worked on, serviced, do a whole bunch of
- 2:58:55installs, you know, alignments. One, one thing I want to talk
- 2:58:59about was that we have an R34 GTT here.
- 2:59:02It's getting a lot of work done. Basically a whole suspension
- 2:59:06overhaul. Now we're replacing a
- 2:59:08transmission, brand new RB25 transmission.
- 2:59:10Brand new. Yeah, brand new, yeah.
- 2:59:13So a lot of work getting done on that car.
- 2:59:15The reason I bring it up is because we are doing a Stance
- 2:59:19XR1 coilover giveaway this month on the website and every $5 you
- 2:59:24spend gets you an entry to win a set of coilovers.
- 2:59:29And the reason I bring that up with this car is because we are
- 2:59:32installing Stance coilovers on this car.
- 2:59:34So we're going to be doing some videos on it and some other
- 2:59:37Stance videos. But something I realized today
- 2:59:41was we're basically we're doing free shipping on Stance
- 2:59:45coilovers this month. So anything, anything purchased
- 2:59:49over $350.00 is free shipping on the website for the month of
- 2:59:52February. So if you guys are interested in
- 2:59:55Stan's coil overs, now would be a good time to order because
- 2:59:57you're going to get free shipping and the shipping on the
- 2:59:59coil over sets are usually pretty expensive.
- 3:00:02I, I don't know if it hits $100, but it's, it's up there.
- 3:00:05So if you don't want to, if you don't want to, take your
- 3:00:09chances. And you just want to order a set
- 3:00:11and now is a good time to do that.
- 3:00:12And we are going to be putting out some content involving
- 3:00:14coilovers for the rest of the month.
- 3:00:17So yeah, check out or be on the lookout for those videos.
- 3:00:21And also vapor honing this month is 20% off.
- 3:00:26If you go to our website, there is a link you could Click to
- 3:00:30submit a form to let us know what you would like to get vapor
- 3:00:33honed. Or you can give us a call or
- 3:00:35e-mail us. Either.
- 3:00:36Either works. But yes, vapor honing is 20%
- 3:00:38off. It's usually 95 an hour to get
- 3:00:40something cleaned. So yeah, take advantage of that
- 3:00:44if you need anything cleaned. Yeah, and don't forget guys, we
- 3:00:47have, we offer a firm on the website.
- 3:00:49So if you can't afford something right now, guess what?
- 3:00:52You can. You can just affirm it, and you
- 3:00:54can pay it off as you go. Worry about it later.
- 3:00:57Yeah, worry about it later. No, but I've used the firm
- 3:01:00before. I'm pretty sure it's it's a What
- 3:01:03if I don't? I think I did the pay in four.
- 3:01:04Remember that time I bought a toothbrush?
- 3:01:07Oh yeah, yeah, you did affirm. Yeah, I bought a toothbrush and
- 3:01:10I. Bought the most expensive tooth
- 3:01:13toothbrush? It still was less than $300.00.
- 3:01:18I had to had to use the pay in four or whatever, you know,
- 3:01:22sometimes, sometimes things aren't going well, you know.
- 3:01:25Yeah, so I get it. But you still need a toothbrush.
- 3:01:27You still need coilovers, you know, you still.
- 3:01:29Need. Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's they're
