- 0:04Let me in your ear. I got something you need to hear.
- 0:07Turn the volume up so it's loud and clear. A podcast where we talk about politics
- 0:12and culture and slipping no limits like a 504 soldier. We're not pretenders. Ain't no agendas.
- 0:17Our only plan is to keep it 100 and do it for the fam. Yeah.
- 0:24What up? What up? What up? What's going on? I'm Six Mill, keeping it true. This is the boy KG.
- 0:31Welcome to episode 30 of For The Fam Podcast.
- 0:35The Mike Brown episode. Man, stop.
- 0:38If you don't call this the Steph Curry episode. Chicago, baby.
- 0:43I hear you. Two of the most memorable victories in Bears history.
- 0:48Back-to-back pick sixes, back-to-back weeks.
- 0:51I hear you. I hear you. I could have called it the Tim Raines episode and showed
- 0:55some more love to the Southsiders. all right.
- 1:03No the first thing I said was Steph I'm like ah this is Steph Mike Brown wore number 30,
- 1:10I'm still going with Steph, but I'll give you the Bears, Mike Brown.
- 1:15But I'm still, Steph is the most famous number 30 at this point. That's a great season.
- 1:21Yeah. It was a great season, though. I can't argue with that.
- 1:262001. Yeah, 2001, I believe. He was just undersized, which means he was always injured.
- 1:32Sure, having them big-ass shoulder pads probably weighed him down, too.
- 1:35Yeah, yeah. Yeah, he was a great player for the Bears, though,
- 1:39even if it was short-lived.
- 1:41Anyway, what are we getting into today, bro? So today we're going to talk about
- 1:45the famous 2000 presidential election
- 1:48between George Bush and the man who invented the Internet, Al Gore.
- 1:53He did say he invented the Internet, too.
- 1:56That's a funny rabbit hole, too. That's a funny rabbit hole, too. Yeah.
- 2:01All right. So we're going to rewrite history a little bit, right?
- 2:05Yes, sir. All right, cool. Let's get into it.
- 2:08You want me to? All right. Well, let's start. All right. All right.
- 2:11Well, let's let's see here.
- 2:13So to give a little history, a little backstory before we rewrite history,
- 2:19because I think the rewriting history
- 2:21will be like the most interesting or entertaining part of this topic.
- 2:26But just to give a little back story, the 2000 U.S.
- 2:30Presidential election between George Bush and Al Gore remains one of the most
- 2:37significant legal and political dramas in American history.
- 2:42Why? Man, so many things. So many things.
- 2:46But there is one thing in particular that I'm referring to.
- 2:50Why is why it's like like the first like like it was unprecedented.
- 2:55In it is what i'm i guess is what i'm getting just the uh well one
- 2:58it didn't end on election night and was
- 3:01fought in the courts that part so that was the
- 3:04first one that was legitimately in my opinion fought in the courts yep but revisiting
- 3:10this topic because we lived through it man it was so many things it it you're
- 3:17right there were so many things but the the reason why it was unprecedented for the listeners,
- 3:24the Supreme Court actually decided this election.
- 3:30So to go back in the story, it was a highly contested, very close presidential
- 3:36election, and it came down to the state of Florida.
- 3:42Jeff, G-Dub's big brother, was the governor of Florida at the time.
- 3:49And, well, there was a whole lot of controversy with counting the votes.
- 3:53But hold on. I'm going to throw something else in there, too.
- 3:56He gets a lot of flack, deservedly so.
- 4:00Katherine Harris was the secretary of state. She was also the head of George
- 4:04Bush's Florida political campaign.
- 4:06She was responsible for all votes counted in the state and also the head,
- 4:12the head of his political campaign in that state. Make that shit make sense.
- 4:18It doesn't make sense. But this is also what doesn't make sense because this is the year 2000.
- 4:25This isn't 1980.
- 4:27This isn't 1984. This is the year 2000. Why were they still using paper ballots
- 4:34that you had to indent or scribble on?
- 4:39Why wasn't there just an electrical ballot at that point or electronic, I guess I should say?
- 4:46And why did they need human assistance to count on?
- 4:51Which was part of the problem. Well, at that time, it wasn't regulated because
- 4:57those electronic ballots were still new.
- 4:59I mean, hell, we got them in Indiana pretty fast. I mean, go figure.
- 5:04Can't get the rolls fixed for a new ballot. But you didn't have uniform ballots.
- 5:09Voting privileges across the board in every county in florida
- 5:12you had some people using old machines some
- 5:16using the newer ones so it was it was just a
- 5:19and one of the largest counties in florida is where a lot of this stuff when
- 5:25it came to the recount took place and that was dade county right but the biggest
- 5:30problem is the butterfly ballots yep so let me let me briefly try and Explain
- 5:36what a butterfly ballot is.
- 5:39And basically, it's, according to the research,
- 5:42a confusing two page ballot design that led to thousands of elderly Jewish voters
- 5:50to accidentally cast their votes for the Reform Party candidate Pat Buchanan instead of Al Gore.
- 5:58Who he later admitted those thirty six hundred votes he got,
- 6:02the overwhelming majority would have been Al Gore's.
- 6:07And the hanging chads, which we were just talking about with the indentions,
- 6:13was basically a punch card ballot.
- 6:17And if a voter didn't make a hard enough punch that went all the way through,
- 6:23they basically threw out the ballot because they said they could not determine
- 6:29what the voter was actually trying to do.
- 6:32Now, here's the crazy part.
- 6:35That didn't happen that way in every single county.
- 6:38Some counties were recounting the votes based on what the voter intended by hand.
- 6:46So I think there was like four different characterizations of what a Chad is.
- 6:50And I can't, unfortunately, I can't find them right now in my notes.
- 6:53But like Palm Beach was different from Dade County. Dade County was different from Duval.
- 6:59Because like I'm just throwing a county out there say Duval was just like well
- 7:03clearly they were voting for Gore clearly they were voting for Bush other counties
- 7:07were like nah throw him out right,
- 7:11Which one that blows my mind is the voter purge. Yep.
- 7:17They say between 12,000 and 50,000.
- 7:22Bro, that's like saying, well, how much money you own? I don't know,
- 7:26somewhere between $5 and 7 million. It's a big disparity.
- 7:30That's a huge disparity.
- 7:32Not 12,000, 13,000. Okay. Yeah.
- 7:35So you're telling me potentially somewhere between 12 and 50,000 people. Mm-hmm.
- 7:41Were purged from the voter records. And most of them were, I be damned, Black.
- 7:48Go figure, right? Go figure. So here's where the controversy comes in, right?
- 7:56One, like you said, that they couldn't determine the results of the election the first night.
- 8:0136 days, I think. Yeah, it took a very long time.
- 8:06And once the results did come out, of course, naturally, they were disputed.
- 8:13What makes this unprecedented, and this is a long legal, we're skipping a lot,
- 8:18but this is a long legal battle that ultimately ended up in the Supreme Court.
- 8:24And that's where the controversy really comes in,
- 8:28because generally elections are decided by the states is up to that state to
- 8:35decide or to determine what votes will or will not be counted.
- 8:40It is not up to the Supreme Court.
- 8:43So to make a long story short, one Bush conceded, which he should have never
- 8:48conceded Gore. I'm sorry, Gore conceded. Thank you.
- 8:52Gore conceded, which he should have never conceded. But the Supreme Court basically
- 8:57stopped the recount and declared G-Dub the winner, thus giving him the presidency.
- 9:06So here's where it gets kind of fickled. Use one of my mother's words.
- 9:11The ballot was created by a Democrat.
- 9:16And the sad thing was, is her goal was to change the ballots where it didn't
- 9:21confuse elderly voters.
- 9:24And I'm sure you've seen a picture of the ballot.
- 9:27Yeah. Even now, if you put that in front of me and I'm 50 years old,
- 9:30I'd look at that and go, who the hell am I voting for?
- 9:34It's crazy. So is is.
- 9:40Should we should we should we start rewriting history now or is that we need
- 9:44to go further into the backstory or.
- 9:48I think that I'm trying to think of anything important that we're missing.
- 9:53Well, obviously. Well, I mean, there was there was there was the Brook Brothers
- 9:58riot that occurred where I think January 6th on a smaller scale.
- 10:04Again, history just repeats itself. With a bunch of rich lawyers.
- 10:08Yeah. Standing outside of what the voter registration.
- 10:11Yeah. Basically intimidating, which also interfered with the recount.
- 10:15Miami, Miami County stopped. Yeah. Yeah.
- 10:17Yeah. Yeah. They were they were basically scared and they just said,
- 10:20forget it. We're not we're not even going to attempt.
- 10:22I remember because these guys just, yeah, went and were all dressed up like
- 10:27the Monopoly man or something. Well, no, they were all attorneys.
- 10:32Right. And they had on like suits and briefcases. And they didn't have on a
- 10:35briefcase, but they had on suits, you know, briefcases in their hands. Banging on the windows.
- 10:42Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And a lot of those people that were recounting those votes,
- 10:46you know, middle aged people from that county. They're like,
- 10:48man, we don't want to be involved in this.
- 10:50We're just going to shut it down. And that's exactly what happened.
- 10:53Yeah, yeah, yeah. And let's not forget, they purged. This is the last thing.
- 10:59They purged any felons, which is fine.
- 11:03During that time, felons weren't even allowed to vote anywhere in this country, I don't think.
- 11:08But what they were doing is they were taking the names.
- 11:11And if the name matched felons from any other state, they were put on a list.
- 11:16So if the names matched anywhere else, they consider them felons. Yeah.
- 11:21One last thing. And I do think that this is important.
- 11:26To this day, they still don't really know who won Florida.
- 11:31If you if you go by one group, they'll tell you that Gore had the most votes.
- 11:37If you go by the electoral, I think it is, they'll tell you that Bush had more votes.
- 11:44So it's all of these years later, 26 years later, there's still a dispute about
- 11:49who actually won Florida.
- 11:52So sorry. Now I'm adding one more thing because I'm glad you brought that up.
- 11:56This was the other thing in 2001 they
- 12:00hired an outside firm had they
- 12:04counted the votes the way that gore wanted them
- 12:07to be counted gore would have won gore would have lost oh
- 12:10interesting had had they done it the way he wanted
- 12:13it had they done it the way they were doing it bush still would have won had
- 12:20they not purged and used a butterfly ballot they're saying that Gore probably
- 12:26would have won by somewhere between 60 to 171 votes.
- 12:31Interesting. So, I mean, so it was still close. Oh, hell yeah.
- 12:34But... Because Florida wasn't mean... Yeah, yeah, yeah. So, I mean...
- 12:39You can say that they took that presidency. It felt like it,
- 12:44man. It totally felt like it at the time.
- 12:46You can say that they took it from Gore, but it was close enough that, you know.
- 12:53All these years later, you can look at it and go, okay.
- 12:57Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I see their logic and their ruling, basically.
- 13:03Because at the time, it felt like. Oh, it felt massive. Cut it off. We're done. Yeah.
- 13:09Yeah. Yeah. Especially with the whole Chad controversy and all that.
- 13:12It was just like hanging Chad.
- 13:15And I mean, like we could see like, no, you could totally see that indention.
- 13:19What do you mean you can't tell?
- 13:21Yeah. So it was it was it was really weird. So now let's let's just rewrite some history, bro.
- 13:28This is the fun part. And we when we say we're going to rewrite history,
- 13:33the next few minutes, we're going to talk about the what ifs.
- 13:39What if Gore won instead of Bush?
- 13:45How would that affect history up into present day?
- 13:50This is going to be fun.
- 13:53What's probably the biggest thing that wouldn't have happened if Gore won instead of Bush?
- 14:00Trump? Yes, but we'll get to that. I know I'm getting ahead. Yes, we'll get to that.
- 14:07Probably 9-11 in Afghanistan.
- 14:12Afghanistan for sure. Yeah, probably wouldn't have happened if Gore had won.
- 14:18Because Clinton and Gore, they were already tracking Osama bin Laden.
- 14:26They already considered him a major threat.
- 14:30So they would have had more intel, more eyes on him.
- 14:35So they probably wouldn't have been allowed to commit the 9-11 terror attack.
- 14:43Thus, we wouldn't have gone to Afghanistan. So that's why I say that's probably
- 14:49the biggest thing that wouldn't have happened under Gore because they were already on to it.
- 14:55Not a definite, but right.
- 14:58Possibly. So I got one on that same too.
- 15:02It says, so if 9-11 still doesn't occur, the retaliation is strictly limited
- 15:09to Afghanistan and dismantling Al-Qaeda.
- 15:13I did see. However, though, although you and I both agree we should have never
- 15:19been in Iraq, Saddam Hussein had to go one way or another.
- 15:24He was definitely a bad character. Yeah.
- 15:28But I'm just saying, you know, all of those people, all of those deaths,
- 15:33the Twin Towers may still be standing.
- 15:36You know, those people may have survived, you know.
- 15:39So that's like the biggest thing for me is all of those deaths probably could have been avoided.
- 15:46Climate change policies. Correct. We would be further along because Al Gore
- 15:51was big on the environment and still lives to this day. It's like one of his,
- 15:56I was about to say hobby, but I don't think he would characterize it as a hobby.
- 16:01But it's one of his policy, one of his stronger policy positions is he was very
- 16:06much about the environment and green energy and et cetera, et cetera.
- 16:10Because we really didn't start really pushing green energy into like the 2010s.
- 16:16Right. It would have started eight years earlier.
- 16:18Correct, correct. Which means we would be further along in the process than
- 16:22we are today. Even further, because a lot of that stuff has been rolled back that Obama did.
- 16:28Correct. You're you're 100 percent. And it's funny that you bring up Obama because
- 16:34that's probably also a big development.
- 16:38Yeah. If Gore had won two terms, two terms, we probably wouldn't have Obama as president.
- 16:46Obama was a direct response to G-Dub and the war and all of that stuff.
- 16:55So he came bringing a different message of hope and, you know,
- 16:59world peace and all of that kind of stuff.
- 17:02So had Gore won and been a two term.
- 17:06Maybe his vice would have slid right into that or maybe a Republican would have won. I doubt it.
- 17:17I, the biggest one for me, well, other than obvious, you know,
- 17:229-11 and the war, we wouldn't be having discussions that we generally have,
- 17:26whether on this podcast or just when we have conversations throughout the week.
- 17:30Supreme Court would be full of liberals at this point.
- 17:35Well. A lot of this shit that he's doing now, Supreme Court would be like,
- 17:40nah, bro, we ain't doing that.
- 17:41Funny you should say that, because you know who got elected under Bush?
- 17:46One you know for sure.
- 17:49John Roberts, Samuel Alito. Yeah.
- 17:53Perhaps if Gore won, neither one of these guys would be on the Supreme Court. At all.
- 18:00At all. Right. At all.
- 18:03Because he would have, I mean, Gore would have absolutely appointed two Democratic
- 18:07justices for Supreme Court.
- 18:10Which means Roe v. Wade would still be applied.
- 18:16Yep. We wouldn't be in this voter rights discussion, which we shouldn't be in anyway.
- 18:23I mean, just the whole trajectory of the country would be completely different.
- 18:30Which is just wild. It is. Just based on one event, one state,
- 18:36one event, the whole trajectory of the country could be different.
- 18:41Going back to Obama If Obama doesn't win Maybe Trump never runs And we got a
- 18:50whole different president today And we're not involved in a senseless war And we're not killing,
- 18:59still killing people Out at sea,
- 19:02off the coast of Venezuela And tariffs that's ruining the global economy.
- 19:08Just no Trump, period, would make the world a completely different place.
- 19:14So with that, he would still be looked at.
- 19:19And y'all, we're not going to go off into a Trump rant, but he would still be
- 19:23looked at as the clown that most of the socialites in New York City have seen him as since the 70s.
- 19:29And that's not disparaging. like you can look up like
- 19:32i always reference martha stewart in the 90s when she was
- 19:35doing the show and somebody says something about trump and she
- 19:38was like oh god don't get me started on that idiot that was
- 19:41like the mid 90s like people
- 19:44don't understand you know what no different
- 19:47different episode let's just keep going all right well we we
- 19:50probably wouldn't have a tea party because they
- 19:53were also a direct response to obama which
- 19:57means we wouldn't have people like jim Jordan and all
- 20:01of those lunatics are ruining government and
- 20:05and all of these anti-black policies
- 20:08that they keep trying to push through you know maybe we would have been on even
- 20:13with the Republican president maybe we would have been on a path of progression
- 20:19instead of recession which I feel like we're in as far as matters of race because even with.
- 20:28Even though we didn't like Bush's policies, I don't think you or I ever felt
- 20:33this country's in a really bad position right now.
- 20:36This dude's going to have us back 200 years.
- 20:39Like, you know what I'm saying? He was bad for the economy.
- 20:42But yeah, it was just typical Republican, Democrat type stuff. Yeah.
- 20:47You didn't think. Yeah, we did call him stupid sometimes. Yeah, sure.
- 20:51But we didn't think he was incapable of standing on a world stage and representing us.
- 20:56Correct. You know, he had his little, you know, fool me once, fool me twice.
- 21:01Right, right. Or the people in Iraq throwing the shoe at him.
- 21:03Right, which was great, by the way. Hilarious. You know what else we wouldn't have? Red and blue.
- 21:09Had Gore won. Why you say that? Glad you asked.
- 21:13We're so used to red and blue, we don't realize that before this election,
- 21:19red and blue didn't exist.
- 21:22So throughout the fight, during the court battles, networks just agreed,
- 21:29we'll just use red for Republicans and blue for Democrats.
- 21:32So when you see it on TV, that didn't exist before that election.
- 21:37Really? Nope. Go back and look at some of the old electoral maps while MSNBC
- 21:43are seeing, none of that shit's red and blue.
- 21:45That's interesting. And I had to look it up twice. I'm like,
- 21:50well, no, it's always been red and blue.
- 21:51Nope. go back and look at like Ronald Reagan and, and, and all of it. Nope.
- 21:56That's interesting. Yeah. Yeah. They say that it just, they adopted that as
- 22:00a standard after that election, all networks were like, all right,
- 22:03yeah, we'll just keep it that way.
- 22:06Yeah. Yeah. If anybody listening says I'm wrong, tell me, I'm,
- 22:10you know, tell me how I'm wrong.
- 22:11Cause I, you know, the, the two or three sources I looked up, they said,
- 22:16because they said blue was the traditional color of conservatism
- 22:20before then interesting that i
- 22:23yeah i'm i'm actually i'm gonna look that up when we finish
- 22:26because yeah i want to see some uh stories
- 22:30about that that's that's that's yeah wow i
- 22:34like that i like that anything uh else as
- 22:37far as rewriting history what any what else we want to oh wait we wouldn't have
- 22:42ice no we wouldn't we wouldn't have ice because ice was a direct response to
- 22:499-11 we also wouldn't have the patriot act because algorne would have never he would have never yep,
- 22:56the Patriot Act, he would have been like, no. Especially someone,
- 23:00I know we joke about him, have been in the internet, but the reason that that
- 23:04is such a huge thing is because,
- 23:06he was instrumental in helping expand the World Wide Web while he was the vice
- 23:10president. So that's why it gets talked about a lot.
- 23:13He would have been like, well, no, we didn't expand the internet for you guys
- 23:17to be able to track folks. Right.
- 23:21Airport security? Yep. I mean, like,
- 23:26Bro, I can't take my toenail, Clippers? Right, right, right.
- 23:30All of that was a direct response to 9-11, all instituted by the Bush campaign.
- 23:37This is too much water. Correct. Take on the TSA.
- 23:40You know how many times I stood in TSA and had to down a bottle of water?
- 23:43Correct. Because I didn't want to waste my money?
- 23:45All of that take your shoes off and all of that kind of stuff.
- 23:48None of that was ineffective.
- 23:50Well, the shoe bomber messed that up for us. Well, yeah, but.
- 23:53For those who are too young to know what that is, look up to Shoebom.
- 23:57Yeah. That was wild. It really was.
- 23:59But yeah, yeah, yeah. So yeah, our lives would be completely different if Al
- 24:07Gore had won instead of Bush.
- 24:11And he probably would have been a two-term president. Most likely.
- 24:15Because he was still, I mean, he was older, but he was still.
- 24:17No, he was young enough. Yeah, he was young enough. Yeah, yeah,
- 24:19yeah, yeah. He was definitely younger than Clinton.
- 24:22Yeah. And I mean, he seemed likable. He was charismatic.
- 24:26You know, he was well-spoken. I don't think he would have done anything too
- 24:31outlandish that would have made, you know, I mean, there is always going to
- 24:36be people who just weren't going to support him because of the D.
- 24:39But I don't think he would have done anything that would have been so outlandish.
- 24:45And no trillion dollars spending in the Middle East? the budget there you go
- 24:51the budget man just so much bro so much and and i mean like.
- 25:01Isis a direct response to
- 25:04us being in afghanistan yeah these type yeah yeah yeah
- 25:07yeah so so perhaps terrorism wouldn't be what it is today is on the scale on
- 25:14on the scale correct correct Just so many things that we've accepted that really
- 25:21didn't have to occur. I mean, that could have been different.
- 25:25Like we were just saying from just one state had one event just happened and
- 25:31they just said, go, you're the winner or let Florida.
- 25:36I mean, because that was the other thing they kept saying that it was it would
- 25:38take too much time to recount Florida. Oh, yeah.
- 25:41Which which doesn't make sense. I mean, get it right. Why? It don't matter.
- 25:46Yeah. Yeah, exactly. Get it right. But yeah, the fact that they were like,
- 25:49they don't have enough time to recount.
- 25:51They needed to move forward with the election, which is, yeah,
- 25:55another way that the Supreme Court basically put their thumb on the scale,
- 26:00for lack of a better term. Yeah, I don't have to keep down.
- 26:04Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 26:08The only other thing I want to say about that is keep your eyes open on 2028.
- 26:17Let's just see if the Supreme Court actually does something to influence that election as well.
- 26:25I mean, because they're all a bunch of Trump cronies at this point, at least six of them are.
- 26:30So so something to keep our eye out on. I, gosh, what am I trying to say?
- 26:35Something to look forward to.
- 26:36Let's put it like that to see if they get involved in this 2028 election,
- 26:42unless it's a landslide where it won't matter which praying.
- 26:46That is just a landslide and and
- 26:49the republican loses yeah i'm saying that all right
- 26:52bro uh anything else you want to nah i
- 26:55think that's uh i think we pretty well covered it all right cool let's let's
- 27:00uh transition into our current events you you want to start you want me to start
- 27:05you go ahead because i i got i got i got one more thing to look up all right
- 27:10well i i got two things that I want to discuss.
- 27:13The first thing I want to discuss is this case that acting AG Todd Blanche is
- 27:23trying to bring against the Southern Poverty Law Center.
- 27:28This is the craziest indictment that I've ever seen in my life.
- 27:37So basically, the Southern Poverty Law Center, like their main objective is
- 27:45to fight against hate groups.
- 27:47By any means necessary. They fight hate.
- 27:50What this indictment is alleging is that the group designed to fight hate groups somehow I.
- 28:03Supports hate groups. Yeah. If you think that that's dumb and it doesn't make
- 28:08any sense, that's because it is dumb and it doesn't make any sense.
- 28:13So what they're the crime they're trying to charge them with is fraud.
- 28:19And they're basically saying that the donors are the ones who were frauded.
- 28:25But none of the donors have filed a complaint.
- 28:28But the donors were were
- 28:31frauded because they didn't know that the SPLC used informants and those informants
- 28:42somehow indirectly supported hate groups like the KKK and the Oath Keepers and the Proud Boys.
- 28:51So so basically doing what the FBI does all the time right now,
- 28:56somewhere in this country. Use informants to infiltrate Donnie Brasco terrorists.
- 29:01Donnie Brasco is a perfect example.
- 29:04But to put this on a simpler scale, to dumb this down, if you will,
- 29:13and I'm sorry, I'm not trying to call anyone dumb.
- 29:16This would be like them accusing the NCAA.
- 29:21I'm sorry, NCAA, my mind on basketball. This would be like them trying to accuse
- 29:26the NAACP of being racist against black people.
- 29:31I mean, it's it's it's bizarro world. What are we doing here?
- 29:37It's crazy. It's absolutely crazy.
- 29:41You mind? No, not at all.
- 29:45So the three civil rights workers.
- 29:50From Mississippi? Mississippi. Okay. That would kill, that traveled down from Chicago.
- 29:55We still wouldn't know where they are if it wasn't for organizations like the
- 30:00NAACP and the Southern Poverty Law Center.
- 30:04Somebody was paid to take the FBI to where that car was and where those three young men were buried.
- 30:15Money from donors did that. How in God's name, other than racism,
- 30:23do you take someone to court for doing something that the CIA,
- 30:29the FBI, the DEA, local police officers. Correct.
- 30:32No, it's not from donors, but it's our tax money. Correct. That's paying these people. Correct.
- 30:37There's a police officer somewhere. There's an organization somewhere right
- 30:41now in this city that's paying them for it. Correct.
- 30:45It makes no sense, bro. It's just a way to go after.
- 30:50It's kind of like how, what did they get Al Capone for? Tax evasion.
- 30:54Correct. Well, we can't get him for this. Let's just go out now.
- 30:58Obviously, I'm not comparing. Thank you. Southern Poverty Law Center.
- 31:01Thank you. Thank you. But I mean, just the situations. It's just like,
- 31:05well, we don't like you, Al.
- 31:07You know what? We're going to
- 31:08get you one way or the other. We're going to get you one way or the other.
- 31:11Donald Trump has hated the Southern Poverty Law Center since the 80s. Right.
- 31:15He's been going after them forever so obviously anything they can do to take
- 31:20them down but this by far is the dumbest legal suit I can think of in recent history.
- 31:26I'd be shocked if it make it to court. Oh no, this should be.
- 31:29Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'd really be shocked but I mean they were also instrumental
- 31:34in bringing the Klan members to justice for the 16th Street church bombing right? Yes, yes.
- 31:41So yeah, it's just nuts that This organization has a track record.
- 31:49Of going against hate groups and
- 31:53you're alleging that they
- 31:56are the sponsors of hate groups
- 32:00it's the most idiotic thing i've ever heard
- 32:03man so you know what i said as we
- 32:05said it's the most egregious this is probably the second most egregious
- 32:09lawsuit brought from this this administration in the
- 32:12last three weeks the fact that now a
- 32:15federal judge in florida stopped this that 10 million that
- 32:1810 billion oh yes yes yes so yes but it's
- 32:21it's it's lawsuits like that that makes
- 32:24you realize that there's more to come there's gonna
- 32:27be something stupid something further i mean hell just cash patel there you
- 32:32go it's like because that was next on my list like bro you yeah you suing who
- 32:38yeah and then when he announced the lawsuit more witnesses came forward Correct.
- 32:46Here's here's the all of the catch for tail stuff is idiotic.
- 32:52And he's going to look like a fool if that.
- 32:55Honestly, we should want that one to go to court because he would get embarrassed.
- 33:00Well, Discovery in Discovery.
- 33:02Exactly. Exactly. We should want that one. But here's the funny thing about that.
- 33:09In what universe were you ever going to make $250 million, bro?
- 33:14Why are you suing for $250 million like defaming your character is going to
- 33:23take $250 million out of your pocket? Mojo, please.
- 33:32Before this, you were hocking Scully's with a dollar sign on your podcast. Thank you, bro.
- 33:40250 million in damages. Bro, even if you won, you couldn't say with a straight
- 33:47face that 1 million is, you know, a good number of your potential income.
- 33:55You're never going to sniff 250 million. I do hope it goes forward because I
- 33:59would I would pay money to see the tape of that deposition. Right.
- 34:03I'd pay money to see him fold. Right. Because people don't understand,
- 34:07man. You sitting in a room half the size of your kitchen.
- 34:12Right. At a table for hours. Yeah.
- 34:16Answering. Remember the Lil Wayne deposition video with Lil Wayne was like,
- 34:20yo, man, I'm done with this.
- 34:21Like, yeah, people don't understand that that's hours of your time. Yeah.
- 34:27And if you're fabricating any of it. Yeah. Oh, yeah. You're done. You're done.
- 34:32You're done. And you know, they always say it's hard to keep your lies straight,
- 34:37which we know he's lying about stuff. The Atlantic is like, bring it.
- 34:41Our lawyers are ready. Yeah. They're like, bring it, dude.
- 34:45This was vetted and we ain't got nothing to worry about.
- 34:50Right. So, yeah. The other thing I want to say about that, with all of these
- 34:55macho mega guys who want to pretend to be so tough, what's the first thing they do?
- 35:03I'm going to sue. Cry. I'm going to sue.
- 35:07You said something bad about me. I'm going to sue. The first thing they want
- 35:10to do is sue. But you guys are so tough.
- 35:14I'm going to sue. I'm going to tell. What they call them snowflakes.
- 35:18Yeah. But y'all are the first ones to. yeah go cry
- 35:21and try and get a lawyer and or somebody confronts you
- 35:24in public now i'm the angry black guy right
- 35:27right and yeah whatever i'm
- 35:32i'm done with my current events bro go ahead so my
- 35:35current event transitions to a
- 35:38rant so i'm gonna talk halfway about
- 35:42it okay have you seen this bullshit with
- 35:45michael beckwith and westfield high school no so
- 35:49westfield high school is like their band is really
- 35:52good and they did a performance now for
- 35:55those who don't live in indiana westfield high school is predominantly republican
- 36:00predominantly white just leave it at that he's going after them because the
- 36:08performance they gave was i quote demonic so i'm thinking demonic. The marching band?
- 36:16Yeah, the marching band's performance was demonic. So the first thing I thought
- 36:21to myself was Westfield High School?
- 36:25Like, them parents out there ain't going for no demonic like,
- 36:29what are you talking about?
- 36:31The set that they performed on, colors, red and black.
- 36:36Okay. That's demonic, apparently. Which reminds me of the Satanic Panic from
- 36:40the 80s. Like, everything was demonic.
- 36:42So, that's part of it. And then the song that they were singing,
- 36:47which I have lost which song they were singing.
- 36:50But anyway, they were singing the song, and he said it was demonic.
- 36:54So, he is literally attacking them, asking that the Westfield superintendent steps down.
- 37:01Which is what he did in Valpo as well. He tried to get the superintendent to step down.
- 37:07This is the same man whose youth pastor or the guy that was a pastor with him
- 37:11was arrested for child sex crimes, I think, you know, reckless speculation.
- 37:17But there was a guy that he's affiliated with that was arrested for some sort
- 37:21of child sex crimes, I thought, a couple of weeks ago. I'd have to look that up.
- 37:25But he's literally like every day he doubled down.
- 37:29Like they came out, released a statement saying, well, yeah,
- 37:32no, it's not demonic. This is the performance.
- 37:34It is what it is. I'm gonna stop right there then
- 37:38I'm gonna transition to the rant all right so
- 37:41before we transition into the rant because I'm
- 37:43gonna let you just go ahead and continue I just want
- 37:46to say I'm really sick of these folk Christians I'm sick of him like him no
- 37:52I'm sick of all of them though bro I'm I'm I'm sick of these fake Christians
- 37:56trying to be so holy and righteous and yet your policies are anti-Christian.
- 38:05They're anti-Bible.
- 38:06They're anti-Jesus.
- 38:09I'm just so sick of it. I'm like, would you guys please go read a Bible and
- 38:16see how your policies do not align with the teachings of Jesus Christ?
- 38:22If he showed up tomorrow, he would be vilified and demonized.
- 38:27For sure.
- 38:29For sure. They would say he was weak on immigration. You want to feed everybody?
- 38:33You want to. Exactly. You're a socialist.
- 38:36They need to work for their cell. Right.
- 38:38Right. You don't like guns. What do you mean you're nonviolent?
- 38:42Because they didn't exist.
- 38:44Well, not only that, but even when Peter chopped off dude ear,
- 38:49he picked his ear up and put it back on and was like, bro, we don't get down like that.
- 38:55Nah, you know, Jesus, you gotta... See, the thing is, they would expect the Jesus that.
- 39:02You know what's crazy is so many conservatives in this country believe Jesus
- 39:05was an American for some reason. Which is wild. Let me say that again.
- 39:09There are people in this country, because have I heard anybody say,
- 39:13hey, Jesus was American? No.
- 39:14But I see your Facebook posts where Jesus holding the Bible and there's a gun
- 39:18on top of the Bible and Jesus has on like an American flag.
- 39:23What? With just a post that Trump put up the other day with Jesus in his arm
- 39:28around him and the American flag in the back. Yeah.
- 39:32No, no, absolutely not. Jesus would dislike all of them.
- 39:37All, all, bro. All, not some.
- 39:43All right, y'all, we're going, we're going to just keep this party rolling.
- 39:47We're going to transition right into our rant about a random topic.
- 39:52Just continue, brother. So, to be a little more specific, the issue that he
- 39:58took was the aesthetic of the show.
- 40:00He said it was just basically another example of public schools basically trampling
- 40:06on Christian conservative families.
- 40:08So, he spoke out encouraging parents of Westfield to pull their children from
- 40:13public schools and use the vouchers.
- 40:15Now, I'm sure somewhere in there, there's a reasoning.
- 40:19Oh, for sure. For that. For sure. somebody's getting someone's getting paid
- 40:24under from from from the private school uh.
- 40:28Enrollment. So the school's response, which I feel needs to be said,
- 40:31it says that it was a brief statement, too. They didn't even entertain his bullshit.
- 40:36They were like, man, let's just say a couple of words and get on.
- 40:39They said they remain their focus remains unchanged, committed to student learning,
- 40:44music education and creating a positive environment. That was it.
- 40:47He read that double down again.
- 40:50And the reason he said that he attacked them is because some students,
- 40:55Of course, these mystery students
- 40:57reached out and said that they felt intimidated and uncomfortable.
- 41:03So was this like a halftime of a basketball game or a football game?
- 41:09No, I think it was just a performance that was released on YouTube because he posted the video.
- 41:13And man, the students are like, was it a mandatory pep rally of some sort? I don't know.
- 41:19Because what I'm getting at is if you didn't like it, then just leave.
- 41:24But that's how we grew up. You didn't have to be there. Turn the TV.
- 41:28You don't want to see nakedness? Yeah. Turn the TV. What's his name? Benjamin Bratt.
- 41:33Yeah. Remember when he showed his bare ass on national TV? What was the show?
- 41:39NYPD Blue? Something like that, yeah.
- 41:41And people lost their bare minds? Yeah, which was a good show, by the way. Oh, yeah.
- 41:46But it was just like people who were for that were just like, just turn the TV.
- 41:53Yeah. There's other programs that you can watch. Just turn it to. Right.
- 41:57But I started thinking, who the hell is Michael Beckwith?
- 42:02What does he do? Yeah. Who is he?
- 42:06Yeah. How does this whole thing work? Because when I think of Mike Braun and
- 42:11you think of Beckwith, you say to yourself, these dudes don't even...
- 42:16How the hell do you know we're stuck with this dumb ass for the next for the whole term?
- 42:22Like, there's nothing Mike Brown can do. I don't know if Mike Brown would want to.
- 42:27You know, like, interesting. Apparently, like, I was unaware of some of the
- 42:31public statements. Mike Brown does not like this, dude.
- 42:34Interesting. He has taken a step back. Like when he talked about the three fifths
- 42:38compromise, you know, Mike Brown stepped in was like, oh, no, no, no.
- 42:41I don't think that. I don't believe that. Because, you know,
- 42:45in this state, he's voted on.
- 42:47But I also didn't realize that Mike Braun didn't pick him.
- 42:53He forced his way into that position.
- 42:57Explain that. He went straight to the Republican Party of Indiana and was like,
- 43:02yeah, I want to run for lieutenant governor.
- 43:03Mike Braun didn't pick him. Interesting. No.
- 43:07That's interesting. Yeah. Which I didn't know. No, neither did I.
- 43:11Yeah, Mike Brown had nothing to do with this dude being in office.
- 43:15Wow, that's nuts. The other thing I want to touch on real quick is this is exactly
- 43:21why we have a separation of church and state.
- 43:24Because we don't need.
- 43:27And let me just state for the record. I believe in God. I believe in the Bible.
- 43:34All right. But we don't need people's misguided religious doctrines trying to
- 43:43determine what the rest of us can and cannot do,
- 43:48which is exactly why the forefathers stated that there should be a separation
- 43:54of church and state. what if you're Muslim?
- 43:57What if you're Hindu? What if you're Buddhist?
- 44:01This is how these things infringe upon people's rights. This is.
- 44:09One hundred percent why we need a separation of church and state and why we
- 44:15don't need Christian nationalism in America and why we need to get all of these people far,
- 44:22far, far away from government, especially like we were just saying is Jesus
- 44:29wouldn't even rock with y'all.
- 44:30So y'all whole Christian doctrine is just corrupted. It's so just anti Bible at this point.
- 44:39No, no. You go practice that over there and do all of that stuff with you and
- 44:46your camp. Leave the rest of us alone.
- 44:49And you notice how they're always talking about what we don't want,
- 44:52which is hilarious in this country.
- 44:55We don't want Sharia law in this country. We don't want this. We don't want that.
- 44:58It's exactly what you want. It's just a different name.
- 45:02A different religion. Yeah, just a different name. You would love to make Christian
- 45:07nationalism the law of the land.
- 45:09If the president sat on the throne and to his left and right were his religious advisors. Yep.
- 45:16Not Secretary of State. Yep. Hey, Father, what should we do now? Yep. Yep.
- 45:21Yep. 100%. They would 100% love it. Absolutely.
- 45:27You finished with that, bro? Yeah, I mean, I can go on forever with that dude, but yeah.
- 45:32All right. So for my work, and we're going to get into a little bit of trouble.
- 45:39We're going to step on some toes. At least I'm going to step on some toes here.
- 45:44I want to talk about something that's very sensitive, not just for the black
- 45:51community, but this is...
- 45:55More directed at the black community.
- 46:00So last week, maybe two weeks ago, it's been some time now, the lieutenant,
- 46:06the former lieutenant governor of Virginia. Oh, yeah.
- 46:11Killed his wife and then killed himself.
- 46:16And a week later, a father in Shreesport,
- 46:20Louisiana, shot his ex-wife and seven of his children and was it her sister
- 46:30and like one of his nieces or something like that or nephews or something like that.
- 46:34So eight children total and two women, the eight children all died.
- 46:41I think the two women survived. There was seven that passed. Was it? Yeah.
- 46:47And and then the guy was killed in a shootout with the police like moments later.
- 46:52So let me state for the record.
- 46:55We on this podcast, we do not condone domestic violence of any sort. OK.
- 47:05Black couple, white couple, Hispanic couple, don't matter. Asian couple,
- 47:11interracial couple, same sex couple.
- 47:14We do not condone domestic violence.
- 47:19My personal philosophy, if someone is making you angry enough that y'all need
- 47:25to throw hands, then it's time to leave the relationship.
- 47:29The relationship is toxic and that's not your person.
- 47:33Period Full stop That's my philosophy on that That's not what this work is about
- 47:40though This work is about The several podcasts That I've listened to Earlier this week,
- 47:49When discussing this topic When discussing this issue Yes you say We need to
- 47:57address mental health As a black community I'm with that You say we need to
- 48:01do something about domestic violence I'm with that too.
- 48:05You say we need to get therapy and learn how to talk things out before they
- 48:10get physical. I'm with that.
- 48:13Here's where you lost me is some of you guys are saying that black men are a threat to black women.
- 48:24Biggest threat. The biggest threat. What are what are we doing here?
- 48:28Yes, there is data that says that black women die more than anyone else from
- 48:38domestic violence. There's data to support that. I'm not disputing the data.
- 48:43What I'm disputing is the narrative.
- 48:46When Fox News two years from now starts saying that black men are the biggest
- 48:52threat to black women, it's going to be because of you guys saying this.
- 48:58May not have been your intent. Doesn't matter.
- 49:01You said it. We need to be more responsible with our words. What are we doing here.
- 49:08If you want to talk about the black family and the nucleus, what are you doing
- 49:14by telling sisters that their biggest threat is a black man?
- 49:19I don't get it. I don't understand the logic in that.
- 49:24Then these same people will get angry that Venus just married a white man.
- 49:28You get mad that Serena's married to a white man, but you just told them that
- 49:34the black man is their biggest threat. What are we doing here?
- 49:39Seriously, just be responsible, y'all. Be careful with what you say.
- 49:46Maybe you're just having an emotional reaction. I get it.
- 49:50I was having an emotional reaction. I told my wife, I said, you see what this fool just did?
- 49:55But that doesn't mean all black men are going to do that to black women or to
- 50:00their spouse, whatever they may be.
- 50:03Don't put the actions of a few on all of us because then we're just doing the
- 50:10same thing that they've been doing to us for years. Stereotyping us.
- 50:15Stereotyping us and making us seem more aggressive, more dangerous, more this, more that.
- 50:22Anything to make us a villain. We're doing it to ourselves.
- 50:26Please stop, y'all. Please. I'm just saying, family. Please stop.
- 50:31Be careful with your words. All right.
- 50:34Don't ever say that the biggest threat to a black woman is a black man ever again.
- 50:41You know who you are. That's my word, bro.
- 50:45And those same people two years from now, when Fox says it will be mad as hell.
- 50:50Be the main ones out there talking about Fox and the racist.
- 50:54You believe this shit? Right.
- 50:56Right. Facts. All right, y'all, we're going to transition into our five on the
- 51:01black hand side. All right, movie review.
- 51:03We're going to light this thing up and have a little fun.
- 51:05The movie we chose to talk about today is Head of State.
- 51:10Go ahead, my brother. The floor is yours. All right. So Head of State,
- 51:14for those who don't know, was made back in 2003.
- 51:18It stars Chris Rock as Maze Gilliam. He is the candidate for the president of the United States.
- 51:25Bernie Mac plays his brother and campaign manager, Mitch. Mm-hmm.
- 51:30Dylan Baker is Martin Gellar, the campaign advisor. Mm-hmm. Nick Searcy is Brian
- 51:35Lewis, the opposing candidate. Mm-hmm.
- 51:38Lynn Whitfield is Deborah Lassiter. She's the strategist.
- 51:41Mm-hmm. And then, of course, Robin Givens is his ex-wife, plays his ex-fiance. Okay.
- 51:47This movie, as I said- Whoa, whoa, whoa. You leaving somebody out? Who? The Love Interest.
- 51:54Tamela. Tamela Jones was the love interest. Yes. My bad. Okay.
- 51:59All right. All right. That's all right.
- 52:03Bro, do you know my brain stopped working for like five seconds?
- 52:06I was like, wait. I seen it on your face. You're like, who the hell is he talking about?
- 52:11But it's funny. Now I'm rerunning scenes in my head. Yeah. Yeah.
- 52:16But so one thing I forgot about this movie.
- 52:20This was Chris Rock's directorial debut. Oh, I didn't know he directed this.
- 52:24Yes. Neither did I. Well, I knew it, but I guess I didn't remember.
- 52:28Another shocking thing with this movie, you know, this movie had a budget of
- 52:30thirty five million. Had a lot of stars in it, though.
- 52:34Yeah. But for 2003, for Chris Rock.
- 52:37Now, obviously he was a big star. I was about to say, yeah, it was kind of like Pete Chris Rock.
- 52:42But to get that much money in 2003 to me was kind of kind of crazy.
- 52:48But so I'm going to give a brief synopsis. Yeah. So Mays Gilliam is a low-level
- 52:54but dedicated alderman in D.C.
- 52:57After a sudden plane crash kills the leading presidential and vice presidential
- 53:01candidates, the Democratic Party is scrambling.
- 53:04Desperate for a sacrificial lamb to lose the upcoming election, they draft Mays to run.
- 53:09However, Mays defies expectations by refusing to stick to the script,
- 53:14speaking his mind, and connecting with voters on a real level,
- 53:16ultimately turning the race upside down. Mm-hmm.
- 53:19That's the brief synopsis of the movie. Mm-hmm.
- 53:24This movie was funny from beginning to end.
- 53:30It got funnier when Bernie Mac was introduced into the fold.
- 53:35One of my favorite is the NATO Jenkins rant.
- 53:40You don't know NATO? I don't know NATO. Sir, I mean, if you're going to run
- 53:44for... Do you know NATO Jenkins?
- 53:47No, sir, I don't. That's what I thought. Right. So this fool thought NATO.
- 53:51He didn't know what NATO was. Right.
- 53:54And for those who don't know, I'm like, go watch this movie because it's Bernie
- 54:00Mac. Now, obviously, we knew who Bernie Mac was.
- 54:02But Bernie Mac really wasn't in a whole bunch of stuff at the time,
- 54:06but people knew who he was.
- 54:08And this was like, like you said, peak Chris Rock.
- 54:11This was peak, hey, let's go get Bernie. Right.
- 54:14Similar to how Robert Townsend grabbed Robert Harris for everything back in
- 54:19the late 80s and early 90s.
- 54:21So what I what I like about this movie, even though it is comedic and intended to make you laugh.
- 54:32The Chris Rock's policy points about how can you not afford to get treated at a hospital now?
- 54:42You work at? How can you not afford to stay at a hotel that you work at?
- 54:49How can you, I'm trying to think, it was one more, it was a hospital,
- 54:53the hotel, I think it was a restaurant, you know, how can you work at a restaurant
- 54:58that you can't afford to eat at?
- 54:59All of those messages about we need to increase the living wage.
- 55:05Even though it was comedic, it's true.
- 55:08And we've spoken about how we need to raise
- 55:11the minimum wage in this country his policy
- 55:15about uh kids getting too much screen time and all of that which is so yeah
- 55:21he was like and if your kid turned the television back on you knock them out
- 55:25like it's just that simple so yeah all all of those policies that,
- 55:34like I said, we, we laughed at them because they were funny in the movie.
- 55:38But when you cut through the laughter, there's actually some really interesting
- 55:45viewpoints, not saying that, you know, the next Democrat should adopt any of
- 55:51them. I'm not saying that.
- 55:52I'm just saying it's, it's something to think about.
- 55:54It actually has some real world relevancy.
- 56:00That was that was the one thing that I found interesting. I also found it interesting,
- 56:05like the synopsis said, that they set him up to lose.
- 56:09You know, they they they they picked a guy that they knew had no chance to win
- 56:14and how the DNC didn't give him the support and the funding and all of that kind of stuff,
- 56:21which shows you just how dirty politics are on both sides.
- 56:26I thought that was interesting to put in the movie.
- 56:30I also thought it was interesting the side piece and that was her job was to just be the side piece.
- 56:39I thought I thought that was hilarious that they had her in the movie.
- 56:45You know, she had then this is a direct response to the Monica Lewinsky Bill Clinton scandal.
- 56:52So like her her only purpose is to make sure you don't get caught up in a scandal.
- 56:58So I thought I thought that was hilarious.
- 57:02I thought I thought Robin Gibbons was actually hilarious. You know,
- 57:06the way she dissed him at first, called him broke.
- 57:10You know, his car got repalled, all that. I'm leaving you, Miles.
- 57:14Then when he started to blow up, she's showing up at everything,
- 57:18trying to get back on the team.
- 57:19And he like, nah, you couldn't be with me when I was broke. So you can't be with me now.
- 57:24Back then, man, that was that was just her character. It really was.
- 57:27It did almost everything. It really, really was.
- 57:31And she was. We loved Robin Givens as kids growing up. Yeah.
- 57:35One of my favorite ones, it wasn't a long of a rant like when he was ranting about pinching. Yeah.
- 57:41He was talking about getting a pin and stabbing somebody in.
- 57:43I should stab you in the neck with this pin.
- 57:46Yeah. But it got me thinking. Yeah.
- 57:49Worked at one company for 12
- 57:52years bro i think i got a keychain
- 57:56which i still have because it's like crystal
- 57:59but i mean let's be real things remember
- 58:02used to sell those things for like what 40 bucks i think i got an ink pen a
- 58:07real nice pen i still got it because i work for the damn thing so i hold on
- 58:12to them and i think i got a watch a good watch or just a watch just a watch
- 58:18straight I mean, back in them days,
- 58:20you know, the leather band that had the gold backing in it.
- 58:22I won't say the name of the company, but had that on there as well.
- 58:26These companies don't give you anything. My previous company,
- 58:31I was there for what? Five and a half years.
- 58:34Well, you know what I got for my five-year anniversary?
- 58:36A jacket that I already had. You gave me that jacket when I started working there.
- 58:42You know what they did? instead of having the company's logo
- 58:45here they put it on the sleeve and it
- 58:48was like a little different with like a five-year thing bro that
- 58:52thing at the back of my closet right now you know what i just got for my five-year
- 58:55anniversary nothing nothing nothing bro nothing but you know he as you said
- 59:03he brought up quite a few valid points as to what's going on in this country Sure.
- 59:10And it's not new. It was going on back then. Correct. Still going on today.
- 59:14Correct. So it's the whole trickle down economics. Yes.
- 59:18Which has been a Republican strategy since Ronald Reagan in the 80s.
- 59:22Since Reagan. Hasn't changed. Right.
- 59:24So the movie is meant to be comedic, as you said, but it will have you thinking, huh.
- 59:34That that makes sense we should do that for sure companies should
- 59:38do that but as long as we live in a capitalist society a lot of this
- 59:40stuff will never happen for sure for sure even even even his opponent who his
- 59:47tagline was god bless america and no one else and it's just what we were just
- 59:53saying god's not an american why do you think god would give preferential treatment to america,
- 1:00:01that's how these guys think and that's how they want you to think and it's like
- 1:00:06so you think that god only loves america and he's gonna let the rest of the
- 1:00:11world suffer that's very christian of you,
- 1:00:15very christian of you to think that only save me and mine and and the hell with
- 1:00:20everyone else you know and and chris rock says in that debate oh no it shouldn't
- 1:00:25be god bless america and no everyone else.
- 1:00:32That's the real message.
- 1:00:36Again, it was supposed to be comedic, but if you actually just step back and
- 1:00:42listen, a lot of these things could be applied today.
- 1:00:48Now, I do want to talk about two of my favorite scenes from The Opponent,
- 1:00:51because I think his opponent was excellent in this when he was talking about,
- 1:00:55when he was trying to get him to debate, because he was like, I'm not debating you.
- 1:00:59And he was like, you are going to debate me. And he kept heckling them and following them.
- 1:01:04And he had the mega fall.
- 1:01:08And he was like, hey, your mama ass so big. When she sit down, she three feet taller.
- 1:01:14And she stood up, man.
- 1:01:17Bro, that killed me. And then she slapped him. You're going to let him talk about me like that?
- 1:01:24Slapped the shit out of his ass. her ass
- 1:01:27was huge bro that shit killed me i love that shit and i love after he lost and
- 1:01:34he had all of his advisors line up and he was just feeling on them yeah pow
- 1:01:40you suck pow you suck what's the movie with uh will ferrell and zach galifianakis.
- 1:01:48Political movie oh i know what you're talking about what is it called the something yeah but it,
- 1:01:57will ferrell reminds me of his of it like will ferrell actually punched the
- 1:02:02baby in the face which is like yeah one of the funniest things i've ever seen
- 1:02:07yeah in a movie he reminds me a lot of that his opponent reminds me a lot of
- 1:02:11will ferrell yeah so i is when i think about it i go i wonder if those were loosely,
- 1:02:17based on someone. Yeah.
- 1:02:19For it to be that similar. Well, I'm wondering if Will Ferrell was like,
- 1:02:23yeah, I got that from Head of State.
- 1:02:25Or, yeah, I model my character after that.
- 1:02:29Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, it's interesting.
- 1:02:32Yeah, it's, like I said, it kind of pulled back the curtain a little bit,
- 1:02:37especially on, like, the DNC when the winger was like, yeah,
- 1:02:41we just wanted to see what he was going to do because I'm going to run.
- 1:02:46So basically, we just needed him to clear the field for me and we can take his
- 1:02:50strategy and improve it, enhance it, whatever, for me to run and I'll get all
- 1:02:57the support and all the backing.
- 1:02:59And then, you know, what was what was when when Len Whitfield told him?
- 1:03:06If you really think they were trying to win this race, they would have picked
- 1:03:10an ignorant nigga like you.
- 1:03:12That was that was hard, bro. She she has a way to make you love her.
- 1:03:18Yeah. And hate her. Yeah. Just about every role she does. Yeah.
- 1:03:21That was that was that was so hard, bro. And it's just like because she was
- 1:03:26so I don't like to use the word uppity, but she was so about her business. Right.
- 1:03:32And then having to deal with the nonsense. Right. Rocking Bernie Mac.
- 1:03:35Right. come on with this. Right.
- 1:03:37Right. Yeah. But then she came back. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And she was like, I'm sorry.
- 1:03:42I do think you can win, but we do have to make some changes.
- 1:03:47Like, like if you want people to take you serious, you have to get serious about it.
- 1:03:53Speaking of taking things serious, you know, Bernie Mac basically just was like,
- 1:03:57yeah, hell with that script.
- 1:03:59He ad-libbed that a lot of it wow a
- 1:04:02lot of people on set said that he treated every day
- 1:04:05on set like he was performing that's
- 1:04:10how he approached it they said that he approached it as a stand-up comedy special
- 1:04:15and i'm about to go out here and i'm gonna perform yeah one thing i also didn't
- 1:04:20realize do you know he brought the entire chris rock show cast that's who worked on this movie really.
- 1:04:28That's who did this movie.
- 1:04:29So everybody from his show from HBO, for those who don't know,
- 1:04:33he had a show kind of similar, like, well, not similar to Bill Maher, but he was on HBO.
- 1:04:38Which was excellent. Oh, yeah. Chris Rock's show was on. Yeah.
- 1:04:41He brought producers, everybody, cameramen, extras.
- 1:04:46They're the people that did this movie. That's how you look out.
- 1:04:49And he also would not give the studio executives the script.
- 1:04:54There you go. Smart. He wouldn't give it to him. Smart. Because he said he didn't
- 1:04:57want his product to be watered down. Yep. Which you know they would have.
- 1:05:01Right. And he also didn't want to direct this movie.
- 1:05:04Oh really? Yeah he said nah I don't want to direct it. But he realized that
- 1:05:09in order for that script he had to get. He had to. Because you know as well as I do.
- 1:05:14Studio heads are going to be like well if we give you this director we need to see this damn script.
- 1:05:20Right. So we can you know. That's interesting. Yeah. Wow.
- 1:05:25Yeah, they say Bernie was on set just cutting up. I bet they had fun,
- 1:05:30man. I loved it. Can you imagine that?
- 1:05:32Hey, and, you know, we got an appearance by the OG Nate doll.
- 1:05:35Yeah, yeah. You know, I love that too, man. Yeah.
- 1:05:41The OG was in the movie. I'm trying to think what else.
- 1:05:45There was, like, one other thing that I think is lost with this younger generation
- 1:05:52when Bernie Mac told him.
- 1:05:54It's time to take off the track suits.
- 1:05:57You know, like you got to dress for the job you want. I also felt that because
- 1:06:02I also think that that's true.
- 1:06:03You know, sometimes you got to pull the pants up.
- 1:06:07You know, you got to put on some loaves.
- 1:06:10You got to get some khakis or some slacks and a button up.
- 1:06:14Dress for the job you want. No, you can't be going to work looking like you just...
- 1:06:21From your homie's crib. I'm going to share something real quick.
- 1:06:24It's on the same topic, what you're talking about now.
- 1:06:26I was talking to a property manager a couple of days ago, and she mentioned,
- 1:06:30I asked her, I was like, did you find anybody to replace the lady that left at the front?
- 1:06:34She's like, nah. She's like, I had a couple of interviews and some girl showed
- 1:06:37up here in some pajama pants, some slides, and a t-shirt.
- 1:06:41And you think somebody going to hire you?
- 1:06:43And look, I know I did the whole rant about code switching and all that stuff,
- 1:06:47But that is not what I was talking about, y'all.
- 1:06:50At an upscale property?
- 1:06:53You came in here looking like that? I've never gone to a job interview without
- 1:06:57wearing a shirt and a tie.
- 1:06:59It didn't matter what it was for. And my kids did the same thing.
- 1:07:03When they got their first job at McDonald's, man, them fools was slacks, college shirt. Yeah.
- 1:07:10Yeah. It just, even, and, and,
- 1:07:12and, you know, even the slaves didn't have anything, right? They didn't.
- 1:07:17But they still on Sundays dressed up.
- 1:07:21They tried. Right. They had that one suit. They might have it for, you know, 20, 30 years.
- 1:07:27But they had that one suit and they wore that suit to church,
- 1:07:30that suit that tied them shoes.
- 1:07:32And that was their their suit. And they got dressed up when they called for it.
- 1:07:37I just don't know how you can go to a job interview in general. Just my opinion.
- 1:07:44Not business casual. If you tell me I'm going to a building,
- 1:07:50and I know that building has more than 10 floors and a bunch of windows,
- 1:07:54I'm like, oh, so I'm going to a fancy... Yeah, let me put on a suit.
- 1:07:58I mean, whether it's right or wrong...
- 1:08:03You are being judged on your pants. Yeah, absolutely. And like the old saying
- 1:08:07goes, you only have one time to make that first impression.
- 1:08:12So, yeah, it matters.
- 1:08:15It 100% matters. Also, get a professional email address. Yes.
- 1:08:21Yes, bro. Some of the ones I've seen over my years of interviewing people, they make me laugh.
- 1:08:26But I don't lie. I read them and go, I'm not calling you back.
- 1:08:32Can't take them serious.
- 1:08:33I can't even take you serious. Can't take him serious. Whether it's right or
- 1:08:36wrong, that's just the way it is.
- 1:08:41Badbitch123 at gmail.com. Right. I'm not calling you. Right.
- 1:08:46Right. I remember I interviewed a guy and I looked him straight in his face.
- 1:08:52I said, listen here, man, I'm going to ask you a real question. I want a real answer.
- 1:08:57I said, do you want to work or do you want a job?
- 1:09:01Well, there's a difference. I'm like, okay, thank you. Yeah,
- 1:09:05there's a difference. Thank you.
- 1:09:07It's kind of like what I tell you when I interview these folks.
- 1:09:10I want to get people in these contracts who want it. Right.
- 1:09:17But don't need it. And for those who are wondering what I mean,
- 1:09:20I know we've kind of gotten off subject, but those that want it have set goals.
- 1:09:25They come to you, they have goals. they're least likely to raise hell if there's change.
- 1:09:32Someone who needs the money, they don't want to be there in the first place.
- 1:09:36They don't want to have to get a second job. So any change that goes away from
- 1:09:41what their ultimate goal is there, which we all go to work and get paid,
- 1:09:45let's be real. Yeah, yeah, no doubt.
- 1:09:46But if there is a hiccup in something, the person who has goals set,
- 1:09:52I don't know, it's all good, bro. Just let me know what's going on.
- 1:09:55But somebody who needs it, One hiccup, they're going to quit on you and leave
- 1:10:00you stranded high and dry.
- 1:10:02Yeah. At least what I've seen in the industry that I'm in. Yeah.
- 1:10:07All right. Let's go ahead and rate this thing, bro.
- 1:10:11I'm going to give head of state three and a half high fives on the black hand side.
- 1:10:17I like this movie. It made me laugh. Like I said, it has some hidden meanings in it.
- 1:10:23Yeah, yeah, yeah. Go back. Check it out. I think most people will enjoy it,
- 1:10:28you know, without giving the movie completely away. I think most people will enjoy it.
- 1:10:33I think I'm going to go the same with you.
- 1:10:36Not that it's bad. You know, not
- 1:10:39it doesn't like not saying it doesn't deserve a four or four and a half.
- 1:10:42But, you know, it's still a
- 1:10:44comedy movie. Correct. It's not meant to be taken. Correct. Ultra series.
- 1:10:49But no, it's a good movie. If I'm scrolling through, which don't nobody do no more.
- 1:10:54But if I'm scrolling through the guide and I see it, I watch it every single time.
- 1:10:58Yeah. And why I can't give it a four or five, because there are some stereotypical. Oh, of course.
- 1:11:05Things in there that I'm just like, yeah, that kind of didn't need to be in
- 1:11:09the movie. But that's just me.
- 1:11:11All right, y'all. So that's where we are with Head of State.
- 1:11:14And we're going to slide right into our closing monologue.
- 1:11:19My brother, take it away. Appreciate it. So I want to talk about something that is going on.
- 1:11:28Right now is kind of a battle for political power. And it's right in our faces,
- 1:11:32but it's happened in federal courtrooms.
- 1:11:35It's a fight against a practice called prison gerrymandering,
- 1:11:40which I hadn't heard of until a couple of days ago.
- 1:11:43So when the census is taken, incarcerated individuals who are disproportionately
- 1:11:48black and brown are counted as residents of the rural town where they are held. Interesting.
- 1:11:55Rather than the city they actually call home.
- 1:11:59And here's why that matters. Even though incarcerated people cannot vote in those districts,
- 1:12:05their numbers are used to artificially inflate the voting power and the political
- 1:12:11representation and the federal funding of those prison towns.
- 1:12:15At the same time, this strips resources, tax dollars for schools,
- 1:12:21infrastructure, and hospitals out of their home neighborhoods.
- 1:12:26The NAACP, ACLU are all fighting this in court currently because they say it
- 1:12:32operates as a modern echo of the Three-Fifths Compromise.
- 1:12:36It is a direct systemic transfer of political power from communities of color
- 1:12:41to the districts that cage them.
- 1:12:45True representation should belong to the communities that people come from,
- 1:12:49not the facilities holding them.
- 1:12:52Quick question. Mm-hmm. Do you think incarcerated people should have the right to vote?
- 1:12:57I believe it depends on, you know what? Yes. Hmm.
- 1:13:01That's interesting. Okay. Because, you know what I was about to say?
- 1:13:04And I had to catch myself.
- 1:13:05And that's a whole different hell. We might be able to do a whole different
- 1:13:07thing. No, that's why I just wanted to leave it at that.
- 1:13:11Let's leave it at that. All right. Well, hell, hell, that might be next week.
- 1:13:15All right. All right. Cool.
- 1:13:16All right, y'all. That concludes episode 30 of For The Fan Podcast.
