- 0:12Speaker 1: Welcome to Getting to Know Podcast, Laughs Unlimited, Sacramento. We
- 0:18Speaker 1: are here with Mike E. Winfield. How you doing, Mike?
- 0:25Speaker 1: How you doing?
- 0:29Speaker 2: Hey, look, I'm incredible.
- 0:31Speaker 3: You know, it's like when you think about all these
- 0:33Speaker 3: years that have passed and I still get to, you know,
- 0:37Speaker 3: tell jokes and they'll hand me $ 50.
- 0:39Speaker 2: It's like a dream come true.
- 0:41Speaker 1: That's awesome. I have, it's so funny because there's a
- 0:44Speaker 1: few comics that were at Laughs Unlimited before I took
- 0:49Speaker 1: over Laughs Unlimited that are still around. And that, you know,
- 0:53Speaker 1: like I feel like that we've all grown up together.
- 0:57Speaker 1: You know, it's like you and Ellis, cause you were
- 1:00Speaker 1: at laughs unlimited before. Well, you didn't know me cause
- 1:03Speaker 1: I was in the office and quiet and nobody knew me,
- 1:06Speaker 1: but you were, uh, you, you know, you were on,
- 1:08Speaker 1: on the radio, you were on one Oh two five
- 1:10Speaker 1: and you were hosting shows and working with Steve way
- 1:14Speaker 1: back when.
- 1:14Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, man. Steve and Eve.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:19Speaker 1: The previous owners.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Hey, but look at this.
- 1:22Speaker 3: I know about the previous owners before Steve and Eve. And, um, Man,
- 1:27Speaker 3: I always get mixed up in a little bit of like,
- 1:31Speaker 3: I had to free myself from little controversies that I
- 1:34Speaker 3: would just dive into. And it was all from the
- 1:38Speaker 3: love of just wanting to do more stand-up.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Right. Those were really great days.
- 1:46Speaker 1: So you knew the original owner, Scott, too?
- 1:49Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, yeah. It was Scott Edwards, man.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Yes, yeah.
- 1:54Speaker 3: Some people wear their energy. Like when you can see
- 1:56Speaker 3: them and you just know how they are. That's old Scott, man.
- 2:03Speaker 3: Those are really great times as well.
- 2:06Speaker 1: That is a great description. What's funny is you want
- 2:10Speaker 1: to hear a funny story about Scott is I met
- 2:13Speaker 1: Scott once and I didn't know who he was and
- 2:17Speaker 1: he didn't know who I was.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Were you guys on a blind date?
- 2:22Speaker 1: No, not at all. So he's an insurance person. He
- 2:25Speaker 1: works in insurance now. And I was at one of
- 2:28Speaker 1: his clients. I was working out at a gym. And
- 2:33Speaker 1: he was their insurance guy. And I was helping them
- 2:37Speaker 1: out with some computer stuff. And it was Brad Bonner.
- 2:42Speaker 1: And then so I was just like, oh, you know,
- 2:45Speaker 1: insurance guy, whatever. I ignored him. He wasn't there to
- 2:48Speaker 1: talk to me. And after he left, Brad goes crazy.
- 2:51Speaker 1: you know who that was, don't you? And I go,
- 2:54Speaker 1: your insurance guy? I have no idea what he's talking about.
- 2:57Speaker 1: And he goes, that was Scott Edwards. And I was like, what?
- 3:01Speaker 1: But he had never like met me in person. I
- 3:05Speaker 1: had never met him. So we were just, it was
- 3:07Speaker 1: like being in two different lives because we weren't at
- 3:10Speaker 1: the club. So I had no idea.
- 3:11Speaker 3: Those are like those photos when they show them when
- 3:15Speaker 3: you were like at Disneyland and someone's in the background.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Later on, you find out, oh, wow, we actually met before.
- 3:23Speaker 2: We had no idea.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Yeah, it's that's exactly it's exactly how it was. And
- 3:27Speaker 1: it was such a trip because and he was like,
- 3:28Speaker 1: you want me to call him back in here? I
- 3:30Speaker 1: was like, no, no, it's OK. I don't need you.
- 3:35Speaker 1: We're done. No, it's cool to know that I ran
- 3:37Speaker 1: into him once.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 3:41Speaker 1: He's actually he's actually reached out a couple of times
- 3:43Speaker 1: because he. you know, still has a lot of love
- 3:46Speaker 1: for comedy and a lot of love for standup. I
- 3:48Speaker 1: think he has like a podcast and some stuff that
- 3:51Speaker 1: he does. And when the 45th anniversary came around, I
- 3:56Speaker 1: asked him and he sent over a lot of pictures
- 3:59Speaker 1: and memorabilia, like the original flyers from opening weekend and
- 4:04Speaker 1: stuff like that. So it's pretty cool.
- 4:06Speaker 2: That's really great.
- 4:07Speaker 3: Like what I found over time is, you know, everyone
- 4:11Speaker 3: has a different experience with the next person. You know,
- 4:15Speaker 3: and there's people that'll rave about a person. There's people that'll, like,
- 4:19Speaker 3: say terrible things. But everyone's experience is different to each individual.
- 4:24Speaker 3: You know, and I found that to be very relevant.
- 4:28Speaker 3: And what I try to do is the people who
- 4:31Speaker 3: are close to me, especially when I find out, like, oh,
- 4:35Speaker 3: were they treated a certain way? Yeah, I'm probably viewing
- 4:38Speaker 3: differently because I trust the people closest to me.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Right, right. Well, and, and, and I don't know, I
- 4:47Speaker 1: don't know a lot about a lot, especially in the
- 4:49Speaker 1: Scott Edwards days. I know a little bit more. There
- 4:53Speaker 1: was some things that I had to overcome being the
- 4:56Speaker 1: new owner of laughs from Steve. Cause there was some
- 4:59Speaker 1: things that happened in his era, but you know, hopefully
- 5:02Speaker 1: there's not, I mean, there's always going to be stories
- 5:05Speaker 1: of how somebody is done wrong by whatever I've, I've
- 5:09Speaker 1: been told that I'm, I'm one of those D club
- 5:14Speaker 1: owners that I didn't know who I knew that's going
- 5:18Speaker 1: to be famous back in the day and who I
- 5:21Speaker 1: kept down. I don't know. I've gotten many letters and
- 5:24Speaker 1: emails of hatred.
- 5:25Speaker 2: It's fine.
- 5:26Speaker 3: That's part of it. You're in a hater power position.
- 5:29Speaker 3: That's really great.
- 5:32Speaker 1: It's true. Luckily, I don't take it personally because I
- 5:36Speaker 1: have gotten some pretty... I did get a letter once
- 5:40Speaker 1: telling me to kill myself. Only once? Only once. Only
- 5:45Speaker 1: once that went to that extreme. It's not the only
- 5:49Speaker 1: one that told me that they didn't give two rats
- 5:52Speaker 1: what happens to me in the universe, but only once
- 5:54Speaker 1: that was like, literally kill yourself.
- 5:56Speaker 2: That's great. Congrats.
- 5:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Why?
- 6:00Speaker 1: Have you gotten more than one?
- 6:03Speaker 2: Listen, comments are crazy.
- 6:06Speaker 3: Like, Over the course of the years, someone will not
- 6:09Speaker 3: like a joke and tell you what to do with
- 6:11Speaker 3: your existence. It's like, man, I wrote that on the toilet.
- 6:16Speaker 3: You know, people will really be affected. And, you know, again,
- 6:23Speaker 3: it just helps me understand the power of words. Like
- 6:26Speaker 3: we're just out here thinking we're just funny, but we're
- 6:29Speaker 3: saying things that are really impacting people.
- 6:32Speaker 2: And I think it's interesting if we can stir up
- 6:35Speaker 2: that much emotion. I think that's really great. Yeah. Yeah.
- 6:39Speaker 1: I mean, either way, it's an impact no matter what
- 6:43Speaker 1: the impact is. I mean, you're not going to be
- 6:46Speaker 1: a positive impact on every single person. But like you said,
- 6:48Speaker 1: some of these stuff you wrote on the toilet, you
- 6:50Speaker 1: weren't writing to hurt a singular person individually that time.
- 6:56Speaker 2: But look at this. This is interesting.
- 6:59Speaker 3: So wouldn't you just naturally have hurtful energy? inside of
- 7:05Speaker 3: you so everything you write is just ruining people but
- 7:09Speaker 3: you don't even know about you like that's but if
- 7:16Speaker 3: you know that's intense but if.
- 7:19Speaker 1: It's your but if it's your I don't know path
- 7:22Speaker 1: to write do you stop writing just because you know
- 7:26Speaker 1: that it's negative maybe.
- 7:29Speaker 2: You become a plumber you know like.
- 7:31Speaker 3: Maybe you there you go Maybe it's something else.
- 7:34Speaker 2: For you instead of ruining people's lives because you have
- 7:37Speaker 2: a natural. I don't know. I'm here for it all. Yeah.
- 7:40Speaker 3: I like seeing like every angle and I know that
- 7:46Speaker 3: we're all different and I actually accept that we're all different.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:51Speaker 3: And I know some people are like kind and people
- 7:53Speaker 3: are naturally assholes and people say things like, well, they're famous.
- 7:57Speaker 3: How could they be an asshole after, you know, it's
- 8:00Speaker 3: like they always were. Nothing ever changed. I appreciate kindness
- 8:07Speaker 3: and I appreciate assholes. It's just like I see a
- 8:10Speaker 3: lot of things in people that I couldn't be.
- 8:14Speaker 2: Even if I wanted to. I don't know. I admire
- 8:17Speaker 2: it even in a way.
- 8:19Speaker 1: I think it's easier to become an asshole after you're
- 8:23Speaker 1: famous just because so much the public thinks that you
- 8:29Speaker 1: belong to them in some way. Like That you owe
- 8:33Speaker 1: them or that, you know, like I'm still, you know,
- 8:37Speaker 1: not that I'm famous, but I'm saying you would probably
- 8:39Speaker 1: know this better than, you know, people think you owe
- 8:43Speaker 1: them or even that you owe them an explanation.
- 8:46Speaker 2: Like, I don't owe them anything. Right.
- 8:49Speaker 3: You know, a lot of times it's not always the artists.
- 8:55Speaker 3: It's the people around them that change. And now they're
- 8:58Speaker 3: like expectations of you.
- 9:01Speaker 2: Right. Different.
- 9:03Speaker 3: And so therefore, if you're not meeting up to their expectations,
- 9:06Speaker 3: they're like, see.
- 9:07Speaker 2: Man, you're different now.
- 9:10Speaker 3: Now that you get to headline a whole weekend, you're different.
- 9:16Speaker 1: That's why they say it's lonely at the top. Because it's, yeah,
- 9:19Speaker 1: like you said, it's not you that changes. Sometimes it's
- 9:22Speaker 1: the people around you that change.
- 9:24Speaker 2: Yeah, it goes both ways, I bet.
- 9:27Speaker 1: You just said something funny because you said, you know,
- 9:29Speaker 1: words matter. One of, I, I quote you on this,
- 9:34Speaker 1: all the, well, especially when we were doing it, you
- 9:36Speaker 1: remember when we were doing the outdoor comedy with the
- 9:38Speaker 1: headphones when.
- 9:39Speaker 2: We were doing COVID? Oh yeah, absolutely.
- 9:41Speaker 1: Yeah. I, you were the one that said, and I
- 9:44Speaker 1: thought it was the best description because everybody had headphones
- 9:48Speaker 1: and you were like, you, it, cause it did change.
- 9:52Speaker 1: It changed the comedy and I think it changed in
- 9:54Speaker 1: a good way. I really tried to bring the headphones
- 9:57Speaker 1: with us when we went back inside because you were
- 10:00Speaker 1: the one that said they hear every word like they
- 10:03Speaker 1: hear the nuance of the jokes because they were because
- 10:07Speaker 1: they had the headphones like there it was limited to
- 10:10Speaker 1: distractions but they like every word battered.
- 10:13Speaker 3: I stand by that a hundred and thousand percent you
- 10:17Speaker 3: know it's almost like when you're in big crowds, you're
- 10:21Speaker 3: just laughing. Then you're laughing at other people laughing and
- 10:24Speaker 3: it's all these other things happening.
- 10:26Speaker 2: When the words are directly in your ear, you're.
- 10:30Speaker 3: Hearing the ands and the thes and the emphasis. And
- 10:35Speaker 3: I think that's even more powerful for what an individual receives.
- 10:41Speaker 1: Yeah. I really loved it. I loved that part of
- 10:45Speaker 1: it was just, It was concentrated. It was just so
- 10:50Speaker 1: comedy raw. And you got every sentence, every word, every
- 10:54Speaker 1: syllable out of it because it was coming direct to you.
- 10:57Speaker 1: I really did try to get the headphones to move
- 10:59Speaker 1: inside with us. Nobody would go for it.
- 11:01Speaker 2: They weren't going for it.
- 11:03Speaker 3: There were elements during that time that I thought I
- 11:06Speaker 3: would never go away from. I thought like, oh man,
- 11:12Speaker 3: this is great. And then I just got a taste
- 11:15Speaker 3: of outside again.
- 11:17Speaker 2: You know what I mean? I was like, Oh yeah,
- 11:20Speaker 2: this is what I actually signed up for.
- 11:25Speaker 3: But there were those moments when I thought, Oh, this
- 11:29Speaker 3: is great. This is, no one was doing some of
- 11:32Speaker 3: the things you were doing, you know? So it was
- 11:35Speaker 3: fun to watch like you be innovative during that time.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:39Speaker 1: I think that's what is the creativity and the innovation,
- 11:42Speaker 1: even the, that businesses had to come up with and
- 11:45Speaker 1: that people just, you know, how, how you moved in
- 11:49Speaker 1: the world's just changed and some of it should have stayed,
- 11:53Speaker 1: but we definitely fell back into the old habits of,
- 11:58Speaker 1: you know, what do you mean the world was shut
- 12:00Speaker 1: down for two years?
- 12:00Speaker 2: Yeah. And that doesn't mean it, it doesn't, uh, happen again.
- 12:07Speaker 3: We don't know. We just cannot. That was an indication
- 12:10Speaker 3: that anything's possible.
- 12:12Speaker 1: For sure.
- 12:14Speaker 2: We'll see.
- 12:15Speaker 1: The question is, will we be better prepared for it
- 12:18Speaker 1: next time?
- 12:20Speaker 2: No.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Probably not. Probably not.
- 12:23Speaker 2: Nah, we don't learn. Never, never.
- 12:28Speaker 1: Are you ready for some trivia?
- 12:30Speaker 2: I love trivia.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Okay.
- 12:33Speaker 2: That was actually, I don't share this a lot, but
- 12:35Speaker 2: that was actually sarcasm. Oh.
- 12:39Speaker 3: I don't let people on to know if I'm ever
- 12:41Speaker 3: sarcastic because normally I'm not.
- 12:43Speaker 2: He just looks that way for that particular time. Yes.
- 12:47Speaker 1: I'm the opposite. If you think it's sarcasm, yeah, it
- 12:50Speaker 1: probably was.
- 12:52Speaker 2: Got it. You wear it.
- 12:53Speaker 1: Yeah. But, you know, if you didn't think it was,
- 12:56Speaker 1: that's okay, too. I'll let you. Well, I'm terrible at trivia,
- 13:02Speaker 1: so there's no pressure here. And you can get them
- 13:06Speaker 1: all wrong. And guess what? Nothing happens. It's just for fun.
- 13:09Speaker 1: We're going to talk smack about how terrible Carlos's questions are.
- 13:13Speaker 1: Cause that's, that's been my theme.
- 13:15Speaker 3: My only issue is I'm competitive. I just like to win.
- 13:18Speaker 3: So that's just, that's my thing on there.
- 13:22Speaker 1: Well, you're not playing against anybody. So you technically win anyway.
- 13:28Speaker 2: Hey, Winfield.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Oh, that's so funny. You know, my last name's Canfield. Oh, Oh, Oh,
- 13:39Speaker 1: So my brother tells my niece all the time, you know,
- 13:43Speaker 1: are you a Canfield or a Can'tfield? So Winfield, Canfield. Okay,
- 13:51Speaker 1: so question number one. What does P.S. stand for?
- 13:55Speaker 2: Oh, it means, what does that stand for? Oh, that's easy.
- 14:01Speaker 3: That means, hey, I know I said a lot up here,
- 14:04Speaker 3: but now I'm about to tell you this.
- 14:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:11Speaker 1: I think that's what it stands for. But what do
- 14:14Speaker 1: the letters stand for?
- 14:21Speaker 2: Okay. Pricing sentiments.
- 14:28Speaker 1: I like that. I like that.
- 14:30Speaker 2: No.
- 14:30Speaker 1: It's close. Close. Yeah. It's postscript. Right.
- 14:38Speaker 2: There's so many PSs. Oh, man.
- 14:41Speaker 1: I know.
- 14:42Speaker 2: PlayStation. All right, go ahead.
- 14:44Speaker 1: PlayStation.
- 14:44Speaker 2: All right.
- 14:45Speaker 1: All right. All right. Here's some geography for you. How
- 14:49Speaker 1: do you feel about geography?
- 14:51Speaker 2: Love it.
- 14:52Speaker 1: What is the capital of New Jersey?
- 14:55Speaker 2: Trenton.
- 14:58Speaker 1: Yes. All right. All right. Yay. One and one. You're
- 15:02Speaker 1: on your way. Who won the last World Cup in 2022?
- 15:13Speaker 2: Mexico.
- 15:16Speaker 1: So close. Argentina. Argentina. I was like, I was reading
- 15:23Speaker 1: it like, why was the last World Cup in 2022?
- 15:26Speaker 1: Apparently they don't have them every year. I don't know. Okay,
- 15:33Speaker 1: here's some music trivia.
- 15:37Speaker 2: I'm going to nail this one.
- 15:38Speaker 1: All right, where was Tupac shot the first time?
- 15:45Speaker 3: Oh, well, I don't think we'll ever know because he
- 15:47Speaker 3: may not have even told us the times he got
- 15:50Speaker 3: shot when he was living in Baltimore. Because if you
- 15:52Speaker 3: live in Baltimore, chances are you probably got shot. But
- 15:55Speaker 3: the time we know about, I would say New York City.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Yes, yes, it was in New York. And where was
- 16:02Speaker 1: he shot for the last time?
- 16:05Speaker 2: The last time? Yeah.
- 16:07Speaker 3: Okay, so I drive by this place often, Vegas. Like,
- 16:11Speaker 3: I almost know it to the street.
- 16:13Speaker 2: Right.
- 16:14Speaker 3: And they still have memorial stuff, like, right there. And
- 16:17Speaker 3: it's like, oh, it was right there. It just brings
- 16:20Speaker 3: things really close to home.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Yeah, it seems so weird. When I went to Vegas...
- 16:26Speaker 1: I didn't even realize. And then I was, I think
- 16:28Speaker 1: I watched the documentary or something. And like you said,
- 16:31Speaker 1: there's memorials and stuff, but I wasn't looking for it.
- 16:33Speaker 1: I wasn't paying attention. And then when I, I would
- 16:36Speaker 1: watch the documentary, I was like, wait a minute. I
- 16:38Speaker 1: know where that is. That's like right there.
- 16:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:43Speaker 3: I was living at Luxor and I would just drive
- 16:46Speaker 3: past that.
- 16:47Speaker 2: Yeah. It was wild.
- 16:49Speaker 1: Yeah. That's right. You had a residency out there for,
- 16:51Speaker 1: for how long?
- 16:52Speaker 2: About a year and a half.
- 16:54Speaker 1: Yeah. How was that? Vegas for a year and a half.
- 16:57Speaker 1: Love it or hate it?
- 16:59Speaker 2: Incredible. It was incredible. Life changing. Yeah.
- 17:03Speaker 1: And you lived at the Luxor? You just lived at
- 17:05Speaker 1: a hotel for a year and a half?
- 17:07Speaker 3: They offered me an apartment or a place. I was like, nah,
- 17:11Speaker 3: I like walking downstairs to work.
- 17:14Speaker 1: I can see that. That's why I like doing festivals
- 17:18Speaker 1: and being right there in the hotel.
- 17:19Speaker 2: I'm like, too easy.
- 17:21Speaker 1: I gotta go anywhere.
- 17:22Speaker 2: As simple as possible. That's my goal.
- 17:24Speaker 1: I love that. I love that. Any, any future plans
- 17:28Speaker 1: for Vegas or are you going to do another residency
- 17:31Speaker 1: or anything there?
- 17:32Speaker 2: Not so much a residency.
- 17:34Speaker 3: I mean, like next week I'm going to play a
- 17:38Speaker 3: club out there starting like, yeah, actually like next Monday.
- 17:43Speaker 3: And I just make regular trips out there to just
- 17:49Speaker 3: stay active and do stand up.
- 17:51Speaker 1: Yeah. I love that.
- 17:52Speaker 2: Grow the base.
- 17:53Speaker 3: But, Vegas is interesting because you'll get some residents, but
- 17:57Speaker 3: a lot of people are just popping in.
- 17:59Speaker 1: Right. Yeah, it's a whole different crowd every night because
- 18:03Speaker 1: it's just whoever's there.
- 18:04Speaker 2: I love it every time, though.
- 18:08Speaker 1: Is there a time that you don't love stand-up?
- 18:12Speaker 2: No.
- 18:14Speaker 1: I was going to say, I don't think I've ever
- 18:19Speaker 1: witnessed or ever heard of... You always seem very... pro
- 18:24Speaker 1: stand-up like just the experience I don't know you just
- 18:27Speaker 1: you're an experienced person it seems yeah I mean just
- 18:30Speaker 1: living in the moment and happy with what's happening and
- 18:34Speaker 1: yeah I.
- 18:34Speaker 3: Mean like there's you know I'm a purist in a
- 18:38Speaker 3: way and you know I don't like when it's not
- 18:40Speaker 3: treated right and things like that right but overall like
- 18:45Speaker 3: I just still chase it yeah and I still want
- 18:51Speaker 3: to write that joke that one You know, it's always
- 18:54Speaker 3: that one joke that, oh, no one's heard or comedians
- 18:58Speaker 3: were like, oh.
- 18:59Speaker 2: Man, I wish I would have wrote that. So I'm
- 19:01Speaker 2: still chasing that, which keeps it interesting.
- 19:05Speaker 1: Yeah, that makes sense. That makes sense. I love that. Personally,
- 19:08Speaker 1: I like the you're chasing it and writing and because
- 19:12Speaker 1: it's new stuff for me to see all the time, too.
- 19:15Speaker 2: No, absolutely.
- 19:16Speaker 3: Because I know how that can be for you. You know,
- 19:19Speaker 3: it gets repetitive sometimes. in ways, you know?
- 19:22Speaker 2: And that's really part of it.
- 19:24Speaker 3: You know, it's just, we're in this evolution now where
- 19:29Speaker 3: guys are like turning over a bunch of stuff and listen,
- 19:33Speaker 3: to each his own is great.
- 19:35Speaker 2: But then you're like, how great is it?
- 19:38Speaker 1: You know?
- 19:38Speaker 3: Because we've seen polished specials from elite artists that have
- 19:44Speaker 3: been doing it for years that have like a well
- 19:48Speaker 3: thought of concept and you know you got rappers back
- 19:54Speaker 3: in the day they dropped their album and they worked
- 19:56Speaker 3: on the album forever now you got a guy that
- 19:58Speaker 3: made a song today and just put it out that night.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Yeah you know yeah they're just like this this is
- 20:06Speaker 1: my shower song i came up with it this morning.
- 20:09Speaker 2: Yeah, right. His fans love it. But, you know.
- 20:14Speaker 1: Right. But how much better could it be if it
- 20:17Speaker 1: got tried and tested and tagged and upgraded and, you know,
- 20:22Speaker 1: put on stage more than, you know, and then put
- 20:26Speaker 1: out for the public, you know?
- 20:28Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely.
- 20:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I love a well-crafted joke.
- 20:33Speaker 2: My set is going to seem very fresh to you. Yeah? Yeah.
- 20:37Speaker 3: Something happened, I think, and I was just able to, like,
- 20:43Speaker 3: reinvest and work again. Like, just writing again.
- 20:47Speaker 2: And I think.
- 20:50Speaker 3: It might have been my hypnotherapy. I got some hypnotherapy
- 20:56Speaker 3: to help me refocus.
- 20:58Speaker 1: I like that. So it works. So you say it's
- 21:03Speaker 1: a good thing.
- 21:03Speaker 2: Oh, absolutely. Absolutely.
- 21:05Speaker 1: Um, I've never, well, I've never done it that I
- 21:08Speaker 1: know of. I could be on a whole hypnosis thing
- 21:11Speaker 1: now and who would know?
- 21:12Speaker 2: It's true. I never met a lady either.
- 21:15Speaker 3: We, we speak on the phone and then she does
- 21:17Speaker 3: a script and I fall asleep to the script and
- 21:20Speaker 3: the script has all these things.
- 21:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:22Speaker 1: See, that's what I feel like. I feel like if
- 21:24Speaker 1: I try to do hypno, I, uh, Don Barnhart, uh,
- 21:29Speaker 1: used to, you know, he does hypnosis and he had
- 21:32Speaker 1: these like videos and stuff. And I just feel like
- 21:35Speaker 1: I fall asleep to it. But I don't know.
- 21:38Speaker 2: You're supposed to.
- 21:39Speaker 1: Yeah? Oh, see, I always thought I was doing it wrong.
- 21:43Speaker 3: No, it feeds your subconscious while you're sleeping. So it's
- 21:47Speaker 3: talking to that other brain.
- 21:49Speaker 2: Yeah. You ever hear a stand-up.
- 21:50Speaker 3: Talk about we're on stage, there's like two brains working
- 21:53Speaker 3: at the same time. There's the autopilot one and then
- 21:56Speaker 3: there's the other one feeding it and, you know, giving
- 21:59Speaker 3: it doubts or giving it confidence.
- 22:03Speaker 1: That one.
- 22:04Speaker 2: And it's doing something to the other one.
- 22:07Speaker 1: I'm familiar with the one giving it doubts because when
- 22:10Speaker 1: you guys get off stage, those are the ones that
- 22:12Speaker 1: I hear most about. They're like, I don't know. I'm like,
- 22:15Speaker 1: that was great. Especially those Friday early shows now are
- 22:21Speaker 1: the quiet show. It used to be the Friday late
- 22:23Speaker 1: was the rowdy. And because we've switched it to an
- 22:27Speaker 1: hour earlier in time, it's like the quiet early shows
- 22:31Speaker 1: are people straight off of work. And they don't not
- 22:35Speaker 1: enjoy the show. They just don't have a lot of
- 22:38Speaker 1: energy for it because they're just straight from work. So
- 22:41Speaker 1: they're the smile and nod type.
- 22:42Speaker 2: I always... I.
- 22:45Speaker 1: Always say they watch comedy like I do. Oh, that's clever.
- 22:47Speaker 3: Right. And, you know, you would think that I would
- 22:52Speaker 3: understand that after all.
- 22:54Speaker 2: These years, but there's still times when I'm like, they
- 22:57Speaker 2: not feeling me.
- 22:58Speaker 1: What's up with y'all?
- 23:00Speaker 2: What y'all been? What y'all been? You know, do all
- 23:03Speaker 2: these jokes. Meanwhile, they're a great crowd.
- 23:06Speaker 1: Right. You get off stage and they're buying all the
- 23:09Speaker 1: merch and they love you and they're telling you how
- 23:11Speaker 1: great you were and you were like, Were you at
- 23:14Speaker 1: the same show?
- 23:14Speaker 2: I don't know. We're supposed to know better.
- 23:18Speaker 1: It's such a comics perception. Like, if you're not getting
- 23:21Speaker 1: that visible energy, it's so hard for you guys to
- 23:25Speaker 1: accept that it's still great.
- 23:28Speaker 3: Yeah, I need people falling out of chairs or else
- 23:30Speaker 3: they hated me.
- 23:33Speaker 1: That's pretty... Yep, that's pretty standard. All right, all right.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Back to this trivia. How many... Mission Impossible movies are there.
- 23:44Speaker 2: That's the easy one. That's what I actually know. Seven. Oh, no.
- 23:50Speaker 1: It's eight.
- 23:51Speaker 2: No, it's not.
- 23:54Speaker 1: Carlos? We blame Carlos.
- 23:57Speaker 2: It's really eight?
- 23:59Speaker 1: Is there really eight, Carlos? Are you right? Are you wrong?
- 24:02Speaker 2: Yes, there is really eight. Okay, here's the real truth. Okay.
- 24:08Speaker 2: I haven't seen any of them. That just felt like
- 24:11Speaker 2: a very wise number to guess.
- 24:15Speaker 1: I'm glad that you guessed so close because I believe
- 24:17Speaker 1: that they could have been wrong. I haven't seen any
- 24:19Speaker 1: of them either, so I didn't know.
- 24:22Speaker 2: You know, I don't know. I'm very psychological, right?
- 24:24Speaker 3: So I figure you're only asking this question because there's
- 24:28Speaker 3: more than anyone would expect it to be. So that
- 24:31Speaker 3: means it automatically has to be more than four. That's
- 24:34Speaker 3: what it puts it over. But I would have known
- 24:36Speaker 3: if there was like 12. I know Tom Cruise... hasn't
- 24:39Speaker 3: done that many stunts. So I was like, okay, so
- 24:41Speaker 3: then it's under 10.
- 24:42Speaker 2: All right.
- 24:43Speaker 3: What is the most logical answer from five to 10?
- 24:49Speaker 2: And I went with seven. That's how I came to
- 24:50Speaker 2: that conclusion.
- 24:51Speaker 1: I like it. And you said it with confidence too.
- 24:53Speaker 1: Like you knew.
- 24:54Speaker 2: I know. You're so close.
- 24:59Speaker 1: Okay. Number six. Are we ready? Starbucks originated in what city?
- 25:06Speaker 2: I hope it's Seattle.
- 25:08Speaker 1: It is Seattle.
- 25:09Speaker 2: Yes. I didn't want it to be one of the
- 25:12Speaker 2: suburbs near Seattle. I'm like, that's a whack question.
- 25:15Speaker 1: Right? That's okay. If it's a whack question, that's why
- 25:19Speaker 1: we blame Carlos. It's fine. Okay. What is Philadelphia's nickname?
- 25:28Speaker 2: Oh, no. Okay. That's easy. That's easy. Hold on. Oh,
- 25:35Speaker 2: Brotherly Love. City of Brotherly Love. Yes.
- 25:39Speaker 1: Yeah, you got it.
- 25:41Speaker 3: I was about to offend people from Chicago because I
- 25:44Speaker 3: was about to speak on the wind, but I'm glad
- 25:47Speaker 3: I got that one.
- 25:50Speaker 1: Nope, you got it. You didn't have to offend anybody.
- 25:52Speaker 1: You got it. For all parties involved. Okay, this one is,
- 25:57Speaker 1: what is the guitarist's name in the band U2?
- 26:04Speaker 2: Hilarious. Okay, so that's hilarious. Hilarious. I'm not even going
- 26:09Speaker 2: to say why. But, okay, I'm just guessing because why
- 26:14Speaker 2: couldn't he pick, like, the Fugees? All right, I'm going
- 26:17Speaker 2: to go with somebody I knew. What about, is it Bono? No.
- 26:22Speaker 1: And really, this is something you never would guess anyway
- 26:25Speaker 1: because when I read it, I even said, that's his name?
- 26:31Speaker 1: His name is The Edge.
- 26:34Speaker 3: Oh, let me tell you why I know The Edge,
- 26:36Speaker 3: and I'm not going to tell you. But The Edge
- 26:39Speaker 3: also plays with other guitarists and like a own little
- 26:43Speaker 3: section of just hanging out and doing things. And I
- 26:48Speaker 3: just learned about The Edge, I'm serious, in the last
- 26:52Speaker 3: three weeks.
- 26:53Speaker 1: Oh, really?
- 26:55Speaker 2: I didn't remember the name because I just, I don't
- 26:59Speaker 2: have a good memory. Yeah.
- 27:02Speaker 3: But I did. And The Edge performs, I mean, They're
- 27:06Speaker 3: still performing. I think they've been doing it for like
- 27:08Speaker 3: 59 years or something crazy.
- 27:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:10Speaker 1: A lot. A lot of years. It really would have
- 27:13Speaker 1: been funny if he was also the guitarist for the
- 27:16Speaker 1: Fugees though. Okay. How many cards are in a standard
- 27:24Speaker 1: deck of playing cards? No jokers.
- 27:26Speaker 2: 52.
- 27:27Speaker 1: Yes. There we go. All right. You are on a
- 27:31Speaker 1: winning streak. So you have five points. This is the
- 27:34Speaker 1: last question. Do you want to wager any of your points?
- 27:41Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. Yeah? All of them.
- 27:46Speaker 1: All of them. I love that. Okay.
- 27:47Speaker 2: Let it ride.
- 27:48Speaker 3: Because I know that now I'm equipped to answer any questions.
- 27:53Speaker 3: Unless you're picking between. Like, is the question already there?
- 27:59Speaker 3: Or can you change it?
- 28:00Speaker 1: No, the question's already there.
- 28:02Speaker 2: Okay, then I'll wager them all.
- 28:03Speaker 1: Okay.
- 28:04Speaker 2: All right.
- 28:05Speaker 1: The last question for five points. What is the name
- 28:09Speaker 1: for the plastic or metal tube found on the ends
- 28:13Speaker 1: of shoelaces?
- 28:18Speaker 2: I can't use a lifeline like Google, right? I actually
- 28:25Speaker 2: know that one, you guys, and I was just messing
- 28:27Speaker 2: with you. It is called. The plastic thing.
- 28:36Speaker 1: Yeah, no. With confidence, though, it's called the aglet.
- 28:43Speaker 2: What question is this?
- 28:44Speaker 1: What is it called? The aglet. A-G-L-E-T. Aglet. That's why
- 28:54Speaker 1: we call this Blame Carlos.
- 28:55Speaker 2: That's world changing.
- 28:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 29:01Speaker 2: I've ruined a lot of aglets in the past.
- 29:03Speaker 1: I think the aglets are made to be ruined. Usually
- 29:07Speaker 1: the aglets on my shoe gets ruined before the shoe does. Yeah.
- 29:13Speaker 2: Yeah, we're just too aggressive.
- 29:15Speaker 1: Gotta relax. Yeah, need to chill out more. That's why
- 29:19Speaker 1: they have shoes that you don't even tie anymore. You
- 29:21Speaker 1: just step into them.
- 29:23Speaker 2: Right, too many aglets got ruined.
- 29:25Speaker 1: Yeah, because the aglet fails. Right. Well, let's see, when
- 29:33Speaker 1: are you, you're at Laughs Unlimited, April 17th and 18th? Absolutely.
- 29:40Speaker 1: Back to Sacktown, back to Cali.
- 29:44Speaker 2: Very exciting.
- 29:46Speaker 1: Are you in LA now?
- 29:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm in LA. Yeah.
- 29:51Speaker 3: And I just can't wait. I can't wait. You know,
- 29:57Speaker 3: it should be incredible. Like I said, I'm like, I'm
- 30:00Speaker 3: rocking with a lot of just new energy.
- 30:05Speaker 2: I'm excited. New comedic efforts. And I'm actually a comic again.
- 30:11Speaker 3: Because what happens when you're like recording a special is
- 30:15Speaker 3: that you're just like doing the same thing and you're
- 30:18Speaker 3: trying to get this thing right for recording. Right now,
- 30:22Speaker 3: I'm like literally just whatever comes to mind, I write
- 30:27Speaker 3: and I work on it. And it just makes for
- 30:29Speaker 3: a organic show yeah i love that.
- 30:34Speaker 1: Well your shows i would never say that your shows
- 30:37Speaker 1: are were ever predictable um because there are some comics
- 30:41Speaker 1: like i know they're material because i've and still good
- 30:45Speaker 1: shows and the audience has never seen it so you
- 30:48Speaker 1: know it's it's new to them but you're one of
- 30:51Speaker 1: the comics that i can't i you know i can't
- 30:55Speaker 1: say your jokes i can't repeat any of your punchlines
- 30:59Speaker 1: You know, there's concepts. Obviously, Stepman is, you know, a
- 31:04Speaker 1: huge thing. And but I can't say that, you know,
- 31:09Speaker 1: that I quote your comedy or, you know, it's just
- 31:12Speaker 1: not not a thing like that. It's always something new.
- 31:15Speaker 1: As far as I can tell, there's still some jokes
- 31:17Speaker 1: that you tell, but it's nothing like, oh, well, I
- 31:20Speaker 1: know this is just closer or this is, you know,
- 31:23Speaker 1: I never know where you're at in your set.
- 31:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I hope to be that.
- 31:29Speaker 3: You know, I hope to be that, like, that it
- 31:32Speaker 3: feels some element of fresh, you know, or that's what
- 31:36Speaker 3: working on it is about.
- 31:39Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, I think you're a great comic. I enjoy
- 31:43Speaker 1: your comedy.
- 31:45Speaker 2: Well, thank you. That helps with getting booked at your club,
- 31:49Speaker 2: so I appreciate that.
- 31:51Speaker 1: It actually does. Yes. I don't, I don't book many
- 31:57Speaker 1: people that I don't like to work with because I
- 32:00Speaker 1: do have that option.
- 32:04Speaker 2: Right.
- 32:05Speaker 1: I guess that makes sense.
- 32:07Speaker 2: Yeah. I would say.
- 32:08Speaker 1: Yes. Anything, anything new or exciting coming up for you
- 32:12Speaker 1: other than obviously laughs unlimited.
- 32:15Speaker 3: No, I'm, I got, I'm shooting something with, um, Nate Land. So, like,
- 32:20Speaker 3: Nate Bargatze's.
- 32:24Speaker 2: Company.
- 32:25Speaker 3: And the same– oh, I'm pitching a game show right now,
- 32:30Speaker 3: and I got some fun names attached to it.
- 32:33Speaker 2: Yeah. And that might be my energy. But now this
- 32:36Speaker 2: is what I'm thinking about doing, right? Okay.
- 32:39Speaker 3: I'm going to sell them the whole game show. Like,
- 32:43Speaker 3: not just the concept, but who I'm going to be
- 32:46Speaker 3: in the game show.
- 32:47Speaker 1: Okay. You know what I'm talking about?
- 32:48Speaker 2: You're an actor on a TV show.
- 32:51Speaker 3: I'm going to be an actor in my game show.
- 32:54Speaker 3: So elements of like Richard Dawson. And, uh, if anyone
- 33:02Speaker 3: knows that it's like the craziest reference, but I was.
- 33:06Speaker 1: Going to say, you're going to be out there kissing
- 33:08Speaker 1: all the female contestants.
- 33:09Speaker 3: Is that not so much that, but that's.
- 33:12Speaker 1: What I remember about Richard Dawson. He kissed just damn
- 33:15Speaker 1: near every female contestant that was on that show.
- 33:19Speaker 3: This is a TV show that I was creating, but
- 33:21Speaker 3: now I'm going to make it a game show, but
- 33:22Speaker 3: I'm going to really be the guy. So then it
- 33:24Speaker 3: turns into a documentary afterwards, and this footage may come
- 33:28Speaker 3: back to be a part of it at some point.
- 33:32Speaker 2: I don't know how much I like that. We should
- 33:35Speaker 2: withdraw that potentially. Steve Harvey. Yeah, it would be like
- 33:38Speaker 2: Steve Harvey. There you go.
- 33:41Speaker 1: There you go. There are definitely some game show hosts
- 33:44Speaker 1: out there to emulate.
- 33:47Speaker 2: Yes.
- 33:49Speaker 1: Very cool. Well, I'm excited. I'm always excited to see
- 33:52Speaker 1: you and I'm always excited to see the things that
- 33:54Speaker 1: you're doing and loved, loved watching you on AGT and
- 33:58Speaker 1: rooting for you. I'm always rooting for you to win Mikey.
- 34:00Speaker 3: Hey, well, thank you. And I feel that energy. I
- 34:02Speaker 3: get that from you and thank you. I'm always, it's
- 34:05Speaker 3: always a great place. I can't wait to get there
- 34:08Speaker 3: and I can't wait to just have four great shows.
- 34:11Speaker 1: That's awesome. Yep. Well, you look forward to it and
- 34:13Speaker 1: we will see you soon then. All right.
- 34:16Speaker 2: Sounds good.
- 34:17Speaker 1: Thanks for your time.
- 34:18Speaker 2: All right. Thank you. I'll see you soon. Okay.
