- 0:15your OG God Gaster Steve Webb. This is the daily show where
- 0:19we're reading through the entire Bible in a year. And if you're
- 0:22in the United States Happy Independence Day. This is the
- 0:25day that we celebrate the birth of our country and independence
- 0:28from the tyranny of the British crown. And today, sadly, there's
- 0:31a growing push by many in our country to establish more
- 0:34tyranny within our borders, pray that those efforts will be
- 0:38defeated, and that we can hold on to the freedoms given to us
- 0:41by Almighty God. Obeying Monday we'll read from the law
- 0:45Deuteronomy seven through nine. I'm calling today's episode.

- 1:01begin.
- 1:04Deuteronomy chapter seven. When the Lord your God brings you
- 1:09into the land where you are entering to possess it, and
- 1:11clears away many nations before you, the Hittites and the Gurkha
- 1:15shites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the
- 1:18parasites and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations
- 1:23greater and stronger than you. And when the Lord your God
- 1:26delivers them before you and you defeat them, then you shall
- 1:30utterly destroy them. You shall make no covenant with them and
- 1:33show no favor to them. Furthermore, you shall not
- 1:37intermarry with them. You shall not give your daughters to their
- 1:40sons, nor shall you take their daughters for your sons, for
- 1:44they will turn your sons away from following me to serve other
- 1:48gods, then the anger of the Lord will be kindled against you, and
- 1:52He will quickly destroy you. But thus you shall do to them, You
- 1:56shall tear down their altars and smash their sacred pillars, and
- 2:00who down their ashram and burn their graven images with fire.
- 2:05For you are a holy people to the Lord your God, the Lord your God
- 2:09has chosen you to be a people for His own possession out of
- 2:12all the peoples who are on the face of the earth. The Lord did
- 2:16not set his love on you nor choose you because you were more
- 2:19in number than any of the peoples, for you were the fewest
- 2:22of all peoples, but because the Lord loved you and kept the oath
- 2:26which he swore to your forefathers, the Lord brought
- 2:29you out by a mighty hand, and redeemed you from the house of
- 2:33slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt. Know
- 2:37therefore that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God
- 2:42who keeps his covenant and his loving kindness to the 1,000th
- 2:45generation with those who love Him and keep His commandments,
- 2:49but repays those who hate him to their faces to destroy them. He
- 2:53will not delay with him who hates him, he will repay him to
- 2:57his face. Therefore, you shall keep the commandment and the
- 3:01statutes and the judgments which I am commanding you today to do
- 3:05them, then it shall come about because you listen to these
- 3:08judgments and keep and do them, that the Lord your God will keep
- 3:12with you his covenant and all his loving kindness which he
- 3:15swore to your forefathers. He will love you and bless you and
- 3:19multiply you. He will also bless the fruit of your womb and the
- 3:23fruit of your ground, your grain and your new wine and your oil,
- 3:27the increase of your herd and the young of your flock in the
- 3:30land which he swore to your forefathers to give you. You
- 3:34shall be blessed above all peoples, there will be no male
- 3:37or female Baron among you or among your cattle. The Lord will
- 3:41remove from you all sickness and he will not put on you any of
- 3:45the harmful diseases of Egypt which you have known, but he
- 3:48will lay them on all who hate you. You shall consume all the
- 3:52peoples whom the Lord your God will deliver to you, your I
- 3:55shall not pity them, nor shall you serve their gods, for that
- 3:59would be a snare to you. If you should say in your heart, these
- 4:03nations are greater than I, how can I dispossess them, you shall
- 4:06not be afraid of them, you shall well remember what the Lord your
- 4:10God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt, the great trials which
- 4:14Your eyes saw in the signs and the wonders and the mighty hand
- 4:17and the outstretched arm by which the Lord your God brought
- 4:20you out, so shall the Lord your God due to all the peoples of
- 4:24whom you're afraid, moreover, the Lord your God will send the
- 4:28Hornet against them, until those who are left and hide themselves
- 4:31from you perish, you shall not dread them for the Lord your God
- 4:36is in your midst a great and awesome God, the Lord your God
- 4:40will clear away all those nations before you little by
- 4:43little, you will not be able to put an end to them quickly, for
- 4:47the wild beasts would grow to numerous for you, but the Lord
- 4:51your God will deliver them before you and will throw them
- 4:54into a great confusion until they are destroyed. He will
- 4:57deliver their kings into your hand so that you will make their
- 5:01name perish under heaven. No man will be able to stand before you
- 5:05until you have destroyed them. The graven images of their god
- 5:09you are to burn with fire, You shall not covet the silver or
- 5:13the gold that is on them, nor take it for yourselves, or you
- 5:17will be snared by it for you. It is an abomination to the LORD
- 5:20your God. You shall not bring an abomination into your house and
- 5:24like it come under the ban. You shall utterly detest it, and you
- 5:29shall utterly abhor it for it is something banned.
- 5:33Deuteronomy chapter eight. You must keep carefully all these
- 5:37commandments I'm giving you today so that you may live
- 5:40increase in number and go in and occupy the land that the Lord
- 5:44has promised to your ancestors. Remember the whole way by which
- 5:48he has brought you these 40 years through the desert, so
- 5:51that he might by humbling you, test you to see if you have it
- 5:54within you to keep His commandments or not. So he
- 5:58humbled you by making you hungry, and then feeding you
- 6:01with unfamiliar manner. He did this to teach you that humankind
- 6:05cannot live by bread alone, but also by everything that comes
- 6:09from the Lord's mouth. Your clothing did not wear out, nor
- 6:12did your feet swell all these 40 years. be keenly aware that just
- 6:17as a parent disciplines his child, the Lord your God
- 6:21disciplines you, so you must keep His commandments live
- 6:24according to His standards and revere him. For the Lord your
- 6:28God is bringing you to a good land, a land of Brooks springs
- 6:32and fountains flowing forth in valleys and hills, a land of
- 6:36wheat, barley, vines, fig trees and pomegranates of olive trees
- 6:41and honey, a land where you may eat food and plenty and find no
- 6:45lack of anything. A land whose stones are iron, and from whose
- 6:49hills you can mined copper, you will eat your fill and then
- 6:53praise the Lord your God because of the good land he has given
- 6:56you. Be sure you do not forget the Lord your God by not keeping
- 7:00His commandments, ordinances and statutes that I am giving you
- 7:04today. When you eat your fill when you build and occupy good
- 7:09houses, when your cattle and flocks increase, when you have
- 7:12plenty of silver and gold, and when you have abundance of
- 7:15everything. Be sure you do not feel self important. And forget
- 7:20the Lord your God who brought you from the land of Egypt, the
- 7:22place of slavery, and who brought you through the great
- 7:26fearful desert of venomous serpents and scorpions, an arid
- 7:29place with no water. He made waterflow from a flint rock and
- 7:34fed you in the desert with mana which your ancestors had never
- 7:37before known, so that he might by humbling you, test you and
- 7:42eventually bring good to you. Be careful not to say my own
- 7:46ability and skill have gotten me this wealth, you must remember
- 7:50the Lord your God, for He is the one who gives ability to get
- 7:53wealth. If you do this, he will confirm His covenant that he
- 7:57made by oath to your ancestors, even as he has to this day. Now
- 8:02if you forget the Lord your God at all, and follow other gods
- 8:06worshipping and prostrating yourselves before them, I
- 8:09testify to you today that you will surely be annihilated. Just
- 8:13like the nations the Lord is about to destroy from your
- 8:16sight. So he will do to you because you would not obey Him.
- 8:20Deuteronomy, chapter nine, Hero Israel, you are crossing over
- 8:25the Jordan today to take the land that belongs to nations
- 8:28greater and stronger than you, with big cities with walls as
- 8:31high as heaven. The people there are strong and tall, the sons of
- 8:36Anakin, you know of them. And I've heard it said, Who can
- 8:40stand in front of the sons of a neck. And you know today that it
- 8:43is the Lord your God who was crossing over before you as the
- 8:47fire that destroys everything, he will destroy them and bring
- 8:50them down before you. So you may drive them out and be quick to
- 8:54destroy them, just as the Lord has told you. But after the Lord
- 8:58your God has driven them out before you do not say in your
- 9:01heart, the Lord has brought me in to take this land because I
- 9:04am right and good. It is because of the sin of these nations that
- 9:08the Lord is driving them out in front of you. It is not because
- 9:12of your being right with God, that you are going to take their
- 9:15land, but it is because of the sin of these nations that the
- 9:18Lord your God is driving them out in front of you. By this,
- 9:22the Lord is proving that he keeps the promise he made to
- 9:25your fathers to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Understand that it is
- 9:29not because you are right with God, that the Lord your God is
- 9:33giving you this good land for your own. For you are a strong
- 9:36willed people. Remember and do not forget how you made the LORD
- 9:40your God angry in the desert. You have gone against the Lord
- 9:44from the day you left the land of Egypt until you came to this
- 9:47place. Even at Mount Sinai, you made the Lord angry. The Lord
- 9:51was so angry with you that he would have destroyed you. I went
- 9:54up the mountain to receive the pieces of stone the laws of the
- 9:58agreement which the Lord had made with you Do I stayed on the
- 10:01mountain for 30 days and nights, I did not eat bread or drink
- 10:05water. Then the Lord gave me the two pieces of stone written by
- 10:08the finger of God. on them were the words the Lord had spoken
- 10:12with you on the mountain from the fire on the day of the
- 10:14meeting. At the end of 40, days and nights, the Lord gave me the
- 10:18two pieces of stone, the laws of the agreement. Then the Lord
- 10:22said to me, get up, hurry and go down from here for your people
- 10:26whom you brought out of Egypt have become very sinful, they
- 10:30have been quick to turn away from what I told them, they have
- 10:33made a false god for themselves. And the Lord said to me, I have
- 10:37seen these people see they are strong willed, let me alone, so
- 10:41I may destroy them and destroy their name from under heaven, I
- 10:45will make you into a nation that will be greater and stronger
- 10:48than they. So I turned in came down from the mountain while the
- 10:52mountain was burning with fire. The two pieces of the stone of
- 10:55the agreement were in my two hands. And I saw that it was
- 10:58true that you had sinned against the Lord your God, you had made
- 11:02for yourselves a calf out of gold, you had been quick to turn
- 11:06away from what the Lord had told you. So I took the two pieces of
- 11:10stone and threw them from my hands and broke them in front of
- 11:13your eyes. Then again, I fell down before the Lord for 40 days
- 11:17and nights. I did not eat bread or drink water, because of all
- 11:21the sin you had done. You did what was sinful in the eyes of
- 11:25the Lord and made him angry. I was afraid of the anger of the
- 11:28Lord which was burning against you to destroy you. But the Lord
- 11:32listened to me again. The Lord was angry enough with Aaron to
- 11:36destroy him. So I prayed for Aaron at the same time also.
- 11:40Then I took your sinful thing that calf you had made and
- 11:43burned it with fire and crushed it. I ground it into pieces
- 11:47until it was as fine as dust and I threw its dust into the river
- 11:51that flowed down from the mountain. You made the Lord
- 11:54angry again at Tabora masa and Kibbe Rafa. tehava, the Lord
- 11:58sent you from Kadesh Barnea, saying, Go and take for your own
- 12:02the land I have given you. But you went against what the Lord
- 12:05your God told you to do. You did not believe him or listen to his
- 12:09voice. You have gone against the Lord from the day I first knew
- 12:13you. So I fell down before the Lord and lay 40 Days and nights
- 12:17because the Lord had said he would destroy you. I prayed to
- 12:20the Lord saying, Oh Lord God, do not destroy your people, your
- 12:25chosen nation, whom you have set free by Your power and brought
- 12:29out of Egypt with a strong hand. Remember your servants, Abraham,
- 12:33Isaac, and Jacob, do not look at the strong will or sin or
- 12:37wrongdoing of these people, or the land you brought us from may
- 12:41say, The Lord was not able to bring them into the land he
- 12:44promised them because he hated them. He brought them out to
- 12:47kill them in the desert. Yet they are your people, your
- 12:51chosen nation whom you have brought out by your great power
- 12:55and your long arm.
- 12:58As we often read here in Deuteronomy, and many other
- 13:01places in the Old Testament, God tells the people what he will
- 13:04do. And then he reminds them many times, and he tells them
- 13:08what he did. And then he reminds them what he did many times. Why
- 13:13does he do that? Why does God repeat himself so much? Because
- 13:18they were forgetful over and over again they forget. And when
- 13:22it isn't forgetfulness, they simply choose to ignore him.
- 13:26They go their own way willingly. They rebel. That's crazy, right?
- 13:31Well, no, not really not crazy, just sinful. Why are they
- 13:35sinful? Well, because they're human beings. And because
- 13:39they're human, they have a sin nature, which makes them just
- 13:43like you and me. We too need to be reminded repeatedly what the
- 13:47Lord said what he did and what he will do. We're no different
- 13:51than the children of Israel of the Old Testament, at least as
- 13:54far as our basic nature is concerned. But those of us who
- 13:58have become believers of Jesus, those of us who have a real
- 14:02relationship with them, those of us who are Christians, but we
- 14:06have something that they did not, we have the Holy Spirit
- 14:09living within us, and we're no longer slaves to sin, as Paul
- 14:13said in Romans. But God said through Moses, in Deuteronomy,
- 14:17chapter nine, verse four, do not say in your heart, the Lord has
- 14:21brought me in to take this land, because I am right in good.
- 14:26That, beloved, is the sin of pride, which gets us into all
- 14:30kinds of trouble. We aren't saved because of anything we did
- 14:34or because we deserved it. We are the recipients of God's
- 14:38grace only because of His goodness and His love. He didn't
- 14:42call us because he needs us. He calls us because we need him,
- 14:47which is why we have to stay close to Him. We are like the
- 14:50children of Israel and that we have to be reminded over and
- 14:54over and over and over and over again who God is what he said
- 14:59what he did. And what he'll do. He is the same yesterday, today
- 15:03and forever and he gave his son that we might live. He gave us
- 15:07his word that we might know him. He's made it possible to live
- 15:11lives that are pleasing to Him, that he might bless us if we
- 15:15follow Him and determine in our hearts, that we will follow him.
- 15:19Not that we'll never stumble, because we will, but we must
- 15:22quickly seek forgiveness. And then we know from First John one
- 15:26nine that if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just
- 15:30and will forgive our sins and purify us from all
- 15:34unrighteousness. Not because we deserve it, but because of his
- 15:38grace. Let me know what you think. Go to Lifespring

- 16:37Let's pray. Our Heavenly Father, we thank you for the fact that
- 16:40you are the same yesterday, today and forever. Thank you
- 16:43that you're never changing. You've told us who you are and
- 16:47what is necessary to have a relationship with you. And since
- 16:50you created us, you know our frailties. You know that we need
- 16:54to be reminded of even the most important things but even then
- 16:57we fall short. So we thank you for giving us your son so that
- 17:01when we put our faith and trust in Him, you see us as righteous
- 17:05without sin. Hallelujah. Lord, we praise You. Lord, I ask that
- 17:10you'd bless us today. May we rejoice in you and know that
