• 1:26
Speaker 1: He's going to videotape it on Thursday, beginning Thursday night at the reception that they're going to have in downtown.
• 1:33
  Speaker 3: Victoria.
• 1:35
Speaker 1: The big kickoff and then we're going to videotape some stuff on Friday.
• 1:38
Speaker 1: Then Friday night he's not going to join our party, he's going to have his own party in his hotel room editing this video to play for you in a three-hour special Hot Rod Tour of Texas segment.
• 1:52
Speaker 2: I have got a bottle of brown water set aside just for that process.
• 1:57
Speaker 3: So this is why Becky's not going, she can go, she can just hang with us.
• 2:03
Speaker 2: Well yeah, we'll take her with us.
• 2:04
Speaker 2: Well, I told her that, her that I told y'all could go to the drive-in, and she said she wasn't going to get the corvette with you and leslie, so she said no well we're going to be there.
• 2:11
Speaker 3: Kathy's going to be.
• 2:11
Speaker 2: We're going to have her she didn't want to get in your back seat.
• 2:13
Speaker 3: Oh, that's fine, that's all right well whatever she can sit in the front seat, we'll be in the back, so there you go, she could be the driver there you go, get her a little help I have.
• 2:23
Speaker 1: She needs to go.
• 2:24
Speaker 1: I agree, I have stuff you do.
• 2:28
  Speaker 1: I thought I'd labeled this as a feature, but I guess I didn't.
• 2:34
Speaker 2: While you're looking for that, let me tell you about my truck the truck, the in-wheel time truck, the in-wheel time machine.
• 2:42
Speaker 3: I wish that you would In-wheel time machine?
• 2:43
Speaker 2: You mean the thing with the exhaust leak well, I'm pretty sure I've about decided that's exactly what it is.
• 2:49
Speaker 2: But I haven't got that far yet, because now I have I have a fuel cap.
• 2:53
Speaker 2: Loose light came on, so you know.
• 2:57
Speaker 2: So I tried to tighten it up.
• 2:58
  Speaker 2: Didn't work.
• 2:59
Speaker 2: So I went to the ram dealer going to buy a new cap fuel cap for $42,.
• 3:06
Speaker 2: They said, and I decided, no.
• 3:08
Speaker 2: So I went down to a parts house and I bought one for $19 instead.
• 3:13
Speaker 2: Looks the same to me.
• 3:15
  Speaker 2: Put it on.
• 3:17
Speaker 2: It did not work.
• 3:18
  Speaker 2: Imagine that, jeff.
• 3:19
Speaker 2: So I went back to the Ram dealer and of course, the parts guy I talked to before he was gone took off.
• 3:27
  Speaker 3: Now it's $700.
• 3:28
  Speaker 3: Not $700.
• 3:30
Speaker 2: Yeah, but they remembered it because they talked about me after they left.
• 3:32
Speaker 2: They said they wouldn't do what I was fixing to do and they bet that I would be back.
• 3:36
Speaker 2: And sure enough I was so anyway.
• 3:38
Speaker 2: So I got it and I put it on there.
• 3:40
Speaker 2: Did the light go out?
• 3:46
Speaker 3: The there and the light go out light did not go out and the check engine light did go on.
• 3:47
Speaker 3: Get her, don't have to reset it.
• 3:48
Speaker 2: So I got out my, my tool and I checked it and it said that there is a slow.
• 3:52
Speaker 2: Got out your tool.
• 3:53
Speaker 2: I hope not the, the, uh, the reader, the obd reader, yeah.
• 3:57
Speaker 2: And it said hey, it gave me a code, uh, for a slow leak.
• 4:03
Speaker 2: And I I thought okay, what kind of?
• 4:05
Speaker 2: Leak In the fuel system.
• 4:07
  Speaker 3: Fuel vapor leaks.
• 4:08
  Speaker 2: Yeah, vapor leak.
• 4:08
Speaker 2: So you know, okay, already changed the fuel filler cap.
• 4:12
Speaker 2: There is a valve the best I can tell, like the old PCV valve, like a check valve.
• 4:20
Speaker 2: Yeah, that goes into the throttle body, that takes the fumes out of the gas tank, it reads the pressure and the overflow goes there.
• 4:27
Speaker 2: Okay, fine, and I can't find it because of the big engine cover.
• 4:31
Speaker 2: I haven't got it off far enough yet to find it.
• 4:33
Speaker 2: But the thing I did learn is that— I want to watch that it says that if you fill up your fuel tank and you want to top it off, if you keep topping it off too far, it'll actually put fluid over into that, yeah, and it'll ruin it, yeah, yeah.
• 4:50
Speaker 2: So here recently, I don't know I did it because I clicked it but it didn't kick off.
• 4:55
Speaker 2: The automatic kickoff didn't kick off and all of a sudden I got gas coming out of the filler tank so I grabbed it, but I know it filled it up too much and it was shortly after that that that light came on.
• 5:05
Speaker 2: And I never knew that Because I didn't necessarily want to top it off, but I rounded it off to the dollar figure so that I could see on my bill.
• 5:15
  Speaker 1: An even number.
• 5:16
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, and so I'm still fighting that, but I thought it was interesting to know that you can actually mess something up if you top it off, you know, might I suggest something?
• 5:25
  Speaker 2: Please.
• 5:27
  Speaker 1: On the air.
• 5:28
Speaker 1: There are people that are probably yes.
• 5:29
Speaker 1: There are probably people that are going to go.
• 5:31
Speaker 1: No, that's not going to fix it.
• 5:33
  Speaker 1: It's worth a shot.
• 5:35
Speaker 1: Disconnect the battery Clears all the codes, clears everything, goodbye.
• 5:41
Speaker 1: Then hook the battery back up and see what happens.
• 5:46
Speaker 2: I may do that.
• 5:46
Speaker 2: I cleared the code with a reader.
• 5:47
Speaker 2: It'll erase the code and it'll create code to go off.
• 5:49
Speaker 2: But shortly after you start the engine and it goes through its cycle and you see all the lights come on and off, then it'll pop back on.
• 5:57
  Speaker 2: It'll reset itself.
• 5:58
Speaker 3: But I may try the battery.
• 5:59
Speaker 3: When you disconnect the battery, take the negative off.
• 6:01
Speaker 3: Don't take the positive off.
• 6:02
Speaker 3: Take the negative off, because if you take the positive off it's going to spark when you put it back on.
• 6:06
Speaker 3: So take the negative off the pole, do what you got to do and then put the negative back on let me try that.
• 6:12
  Speaker 2: I think it's.
• 6:13
Speaker 2: I think I'm erasing it, but I'll absolutely try that, because now it's going to have to be.
• 6:18
Speaker 2: I got to figure out where that valve is and I'm gonna.
• 6:20
Speaker 2: It's all online, my friend, all of it, it's right there by the throttle body.
• 6:26
Speaker 2: It's what it says.
• 6:27
Speaker 2: Well, by the time you get that big cover off the top of the engine, that thing should just snap off of there.
• 6:32
Speaker 2: It does, but you've got to get up in there to it because the truck's lifted a little bit.
• 6:36
  Speaker 2: Come on.
• 6:38
Speaker 3: Mars or you could just go to the Emmons Autoplex and trade it in on that 2002 white on white corvette.
• 6:47
Speaker 1: They've got sitting there with 38 000 miles on it yeah, hello, hello, mcfly, then we, then you'd have to get a hitch on the back of the corvette for a trailer to pull, to pull all of our junk when we go on the road.
• 7:04
  Speaker 2: Absolutely.
• 7:05
Speaker 3: I could get it wrapped.
• 7:06
Speaker 2: Get John to wrap it with in-wheel time logos all over it.
• 7:09
  Speaker 1: You know what?
• 7:09
Speaker 1: There are a lot of people that would line up right behind me to kill you if you did that.
• 7:14
  Speaker 2: Including my wife.
• 7:15
Speaker 3: And we'll videotape it and put it in one of the segments.
• 7:18
Speaker 1: I think what you need to do is you need to go down there and buy that Corvette and if it's on the Emmons lot, I know that Kylie's looking for a car I was trying to get a lead in somehow to that.
• 7:27
Speaker 1: And I think that you know, emmons, she's got to get a car 38,000 miles.
• 7:36
Speaker 3: And we've been talking to Don and you about Kylie being of age.
• 7:39
Speaker 3: She's got her license and all that.
• 7:40
Speaker 3: She's going to get a car, not necessarily hand-me-down from mom, her license and all that.
• 7:44
Speaker 3: He's going to get a car, not necessarily hand-me-down from mom, her mom or her dad, but a car.
• 7:47
Speaker 3: So Don says contact Jerry and I reached out to Mike.
• 7:49
Speaker 3: I reached out to David Ainsley who needed Jerry's phone number.
• 7:51
Speaker 3: Well, they had Gary's number.
• 7:53
Speaker 3: So I called Gary last week and left him a voicemail and he didn't pick it up because they'd been busy.
• 7:57
Speaker 3: I thought maybe they were in Vegas at the four-wide going on this weekend in an HRA.
• 8:01
Speaker 3: He said no, they had other things going on, prep wise.
• 8:04
Speaker 3: Nevertheless, he said he was going to find out from his team.
• 8:08
Speaker 3: He was going to get us a particular salesman to walk Kylie, my granddaughter, 16 years old, through the car buying process.
• 8:15
Speaker 3: So when that happens we're going to try to get something on video and maybe some storylines behind it.
• 8:22
Speaker 1: I think that is an excellent idea.
• 8:24
Speaker 3: To a 16-year-old girl, young lady buying a car for the first time and obviously she's got help.
• 8:31
Speaker 3: It's not going to be in her name.
• 8:32
Speaker 3: She can't do that.
• 8:33
Speaker 1: It's going to be the process, because what she probably is starting to understand, we're all looking over her, making sure that all this works right.
• 8:42
Speaker 1: Well, we got my son, jason.
• 8:43
Speaker 3: He works for Lexus, he's a premier painter for them and he's involved in it, so we'll see how that works out and maybe get a storyline.
• 8:52
Speaker 1: It's a good learning experience for a 16-year-old girl, can you put that microphone a little bit?
• 8:55
Speaker 2: closer to your mouth there, Mars.
• 8:56
  Speaker 3: There you go.
• 8:58
Speaker 2: Oh my God Gross.
• 9:00
Speaker 3: So, anyways, that's going to be the project.
• 9:02
Speaker 2: So anyways, that's going to be the project.
• 9:03
Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that would be good, though, because I've watched my teenage granddaughters as they're starting to get into the process.
• 9:08
Speaker 1: You know, about filling up cars, some things they're a little timid over and I think that's great that you're doing that Well, speaking of car dealers, I titled this a rip-off high-end dealer in trouble with the law.
• 9:20
  Speaker 1: That's a big title.
• 9:21
Speaker 1: The law, that's a big title.
• 9:27
Speaker 1: A Florida dealer in collectible vehicles and a buyer have accused a Canadian dealership of failing to disclose the 2006 Ford GT Heritage Edition, purchased for a mere $716,800, had been seriously damaged in a crash and restored.
• 9:42
Speaker 1: So the GT is worth much less than the price Borek Auto Sales and Robert Guarini paid to Silver Arrow Cars, which specializes in high-end collectibles, according to the federal court suit filed March 6th.
• 9:59
Speaker 1: The suit alleges fraud, misrepresentation and related claims against Silver Arrow of Victoria BC, that's, british Columbia, and its president, tim Oxister.
• 10:09
Speaker 1: According to the suit, the vehicle was one of 343 GT Heritage Edition cars, a line produced only in 2006.
• 10:19
Speaker 1: This edition was a 21st century interpretation of the GT40 model that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans four consecutive years, from 66 to 69,.
• 10:29
Speaker 1: The complaint said Quark's sister told Automotive News, from which I got this story, he and Silver Arrow will try to get it thrown out quickly.
• 10:39
Speaker 1: It's a claim with no merit.
• 10:40
Speaker 1: Adding, the car had a clean Carfax report when it was sold.
• 10:43
Speaker 1: Here's the timeline for the GT sale In 2015,.
• 10:48
Speaker 1: It was badly damaged in a crash in Brazil, an accident that was well publicized and well known in the exotic car industry.
• 10:56
Speaker 1: According to the complaint, the Brazilian owner shipped it to Detroit for restoration, then sold it to a Tampa Florida used car dealership specializing in high-end vehicles.
• 11:07
Speaker 1: That seller disclosed the restoration verbally and in writing to the buyer it said it said.
• 11:14
Speaker 1: The complaint said the defendants were aware that a collectible vehicle's value is substantially lower if it had been damaged and restored and knew that many purchasers like Guarini don't attend auctions in person to inspect a vehicle.
• 11:29
Speaker 1: Instead, they rely on the information they receive.
• 11:32
Speaker 1: The crash didn't appear on the Carfax report because it happened in Brazil.
• 11:37
Speaker 1: Understandable Kwok Sister and Silver Arrow allegedly recorded the purchase as occurring on the same day, in March 2022, that the Brazilian owner sold it to the Tampa store.
• 11:49
Speaker 1: According to the store, almost immediately the defendants co-signed it to an auctioneer but didn't disclose the prior damage and restoration to the auction firm, whose pre-consignment form requires sellers to state where a vehicle is custom restored or original restored.
• 12:05
Speaker 1: The suit claims it also said they failed to provide the auction firm with the required detail shots showing any flaws, blemishes, undercarriage and other close-up highlights.
• 12:16
Speaker 1: The car was damaged in another crash in Florida about three weeks after the sale.
• 12:20
Speaker 1: Only then was the prior restoration detected, when Guarini brought it in for repairs.
• 12:27
Speaker 1: According to the suit, what's all this bondo.
• 12:31
Speaker 1: The suit seeks the difference between the price paid and the car's actual value, along with the punitive damages and attorney's fees.
• 12:37
Speaker 1: And the car's actual value, along with the punitive damages and attorney's fees.
• 12:38
Speaker 1: Quark Sister and Silver Arrow have been defendants in earlier cases.
• 12:41
Speaker 1: Us and Canadian court records show the 2019 Ford Motor Company sued them in Ontario for buying a new GT for $690,800, then selling it for more than double that amount several weeks later.
• 12:57
Speaker 1: Automotive News Canada reported the suit accused them of violating Ford's 24-month ban on reselling the vehicle.
• 13:04
Speaker 1: In 2017, silver Arrow was sued in federal court in Washington State in a dispute over a 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder.
• 13:13
Speaker 1: They had sold for $1.4 million.
• 13:15
  Speaker 1: Wow.
• 13:15
Speaker 1: Spider they had sold for $1.4 million.
• 13:16
  Speaker 1: Wow.
• 13:17
Speaker 1: The plaintiffs won default judgments totaling more than $661,000 against Silver Arrow, so they got some of their money back.
• 13:27
Speaker 1: What's the exchange rate?
• 13:28
  Speaker 1: I?
• 13:28
  Speaker 3: don't know.
• 13:29
Speaker 3: Us to Canada, US to Brazil?
• 13:30
Speaker 1: I don't know all of that.
• 13:31
Speaker 1: I don't know, but I guess, the point being that, buyer beware.
• 13:38
Speaker 1: And especially when you get into those kind of cars, you think, because you're paying all this money, that the thing's going to be pristine, nay, nay.
• 13:46
Speaker 3: Well, you said the auction relied on word of mouth rather than investigating.
• 13:51
Speaker 3: Now, you don't find that at a Beacom.
• 13:52
Speaker 1: You don't find that at a Barrett's, as a matter of fact, speaking of that To go into, that Craig had a car, a Nova, that he's had in his possession for years and years and years, very fine car.
• 14:04
Speaker 1: It's a beautiful restomod is what it is, and it's worth a lot of money, and he took it to Mecham to sell it.
• 14:11
Speaker 1: Well, the VIN number that appears on both the engine and on the cowl are correct.
• 14:21
Speaker 1: However, they got underneath it Craig didn't know this either but apparently underneath it up on top of the fender.
• 14:30
Speaker 1: Well, you can only see from underneath the car, up there at the top of the fender.
• 14:34
Speaker 1: Well, the VIN number up there was one digit off.
• 14:39
Speaker 1: And they said no, they said we can't sell this car really.
• 14:45
Speaker 1: Yep, it's one digit off.
• 14:47
Speaker 1: So they know where to look on these cars and especially these restomods, originals or whatever.
• 14:54
Speaker 1: But I, I would imagine you know, if you go in there and you want to buy some ragged out car, okay, you're buying the ragged out car, but when you get into restomods and customs and the high-end stuff, then it's a whole other, because you're spending a lot of money and, like Mecham in their defense, they don't want to have anything to do with.
• 15:13
Speaker 2: Well, and it's probably got something to do with disclosure laws, just like selling a house.
• 15:17
Speaker 3: Well, that's like in this one, they just weren't word of mouth.
• 15:20
Speaker 2: Well, but the other one.
• 15:21
Speaker 2: On this other one you were talking about, though, they did a lot of stuff the same day.
• 15:24
Speaker 2: They actually got it in.
• 15:25
Speaker 2: They signed it over to the other one.
• 15:27
Speaker 2: I mean, they did it so quick they were greedy and did it really quick Well that and the car was red flag on it going.
• 15:32
Speaker 1: Hmm, it's here now, it's in Canada now.
• 15:40
Speaker 1: Why is this kind of like shuffling?
• 15:42
  Speaker 2: cards, you know?
• 15:43
Speaker 2: Yeah, I called the guy about a Corvette.
• 15:45
Speaker 2: It was in Mexico.
• 15:46
Speaker 2: He was in Texas, but his car was in Mexico.
• 15:49
Speaker 2: It's still down there.
• 15:50
Speaker 2: He's moving back to Texas and I said no.
• 15:54
Speaker 2: No, no, no, no, I'll go through the hassle of trying to get it into the States.
• 16:00
Speaker 1: If you want to do something like that, if you want to buy something, then you need to find a professional Michael Wooding, yes and find a professional that knows what to look for, gets underneath it fine-tooth, comb the whole nine yards to put an actual, real, honest-to-goodness value on it.
• 16:18
Speaker 3: And speaking of Michael, he ran his Pontiac wagon, pontiac wagon.
• 16:22
Speaker 3: And he pulled it because it didn't meet reserve.
• 16:24
Speaker 3: So he brought that back home, did he?
• 16:27
Speaker 3: Yeah, according to the Facebook page.
• 16:28
Speaker 3: But every time I think of Brazil, I think of wax.
• 16:31
Speaker 2: For some reason, yeah, I need to find out.
• 16:33
Speaker 2: Coleman Roddy had the guy we talked about.
• 16:35
Speaker 3: He had a relax job.
• 16:36
Speaker 2: No, he had two cars he took to Mecham.
• 16:38
Speaker 2: I haven't heard how it turned out.
• 16:42
Speaker 1: yet let's see In Real Time Car Talk Show.
