- 0:20Speaker 1: We're buzzing in.
- 0:21Speaker 2: An understate that might have been looked bad.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Liall be Jon By Jimmy English, Deth, Nicky, Jimmy starting

- 0:29Speaker 1: after months and months, months and months and months, Real
- 0:33Speaker 1: Steeters football starts this Sunday.
- 0:34Speaker 3: I'll tell you one thing, Michael.
- 0:37Speaker 4: I'm sitting down on my couch at five o'clock on
- 0:39Speaker 4: Sunday even and God help anybody who goes near me,
- 0:42Speaker 4: near me before at nine o'clock and that game is over.
- 0:45Speaker 3: And I'm just I'm just so excited.
- 0:47Speaker 4: I mean, it's been such it's been such a long offseason,
- 0:50Speaker 4: and you know, we've seen flashes in the preseason and
- 0:52Speaker 4: we're getting excited. But now we actually have real football,
- 0:55Speaker 4: and yeah, absolutely buzzing for a buzzing for the NF
- 0:59Speaker 4: that in general. I'm going to actually watch the other game,
- 1:03Speaker 4: the Thursday night game Friday, just to get me going
- 1:06Speaker 4: for Sunday and get into the mood.
- 1:08Speaker 2: But no, it's great.
- 1:09Speaker 4: We're back, football back, and yeah, looking forward to it.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Excited to talk about with you boys for the least,
- 1:16Speaker 1: I say, at the least the next seventeen to eighteen weeks. Gentlemen,
- 1:19Speaker 1: I'm sure we'll talk about it for a lot more
- 1:21Speaker 1: than that. Dave, I'm sure you're a good as six
- 1:25Speaker 1: pm game. The game is on TV in Ireland in
- 1:27Speaker 1: the UK, so I'll can play a month.
- 1:31Speaker 5: Yeah, Michael, I was absolutely delayed to see that that
- 1:33Speaker 5: was the live game at six o'clock. And I can
- 1:37Speaker 5: hear Scott Hanson's voice in the back of my head already.
- 1:40Speaker 5: I'm gonna have a own triple box of stuff in
- 1:43Speaker 5: the room here. But the Staders game obviously is going
- 1:45Speaker 5: to be the main one. But yeah, I'm so excited.
- 1:47Speaker 5: I can't remember being this excited for a regular season
- 1:50Speaker 5: and so long. It's just been obviously a great pre season.
- 1:54Speaker 5: I'm just so ready to the finally watch state their football.
- 1:56Speaker 5: So long may the season continue, please.
- 2:00Speaker 1: I feel like that both of you boys need a
- 2:02Speaker 1: massive shut out, particular Art and follow Day and Jimmy
- 2:05Speaker 1: I know you'll give me more names and just yourself here,
- 2:08Speaker 1: but I've seen a great photo that was taken in Dublin.
- 2:10Speaker 1: I know Tom and the laws world as well, but
- 2:13Speaker 1: great to see not just in Dublin but then just
- 2:15Speaker 1: pound around the island of Iarly lord of the side
- 2:17Speaker 1: of the word, just taking photo show and support and
- 2:20Speaker 1: it's really unique to this scene in terms of what
- 2:22Speaker 1: they're doing.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:24Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 2:25Speaker 4: First of all, big shout out to Tom McCormack and
- 2:28Speaker 4: who who definitely owns the title of the Ardent, the
- 2:32Speaker 4: biggest Steeter stand that's that's just Understudard.
- 2:35Speaker 3: He he put together and live gathering in U. C.
- 2:37Speaker 4: D On Sunday morning for World Photo Day and then okay,
- 2:41Speaker 4: was great to get out and meet fellow Steeter stands
- 2:43Speaker 4: and also to see other Steeter stands around the island
- 2:47Speaker 4: posting and postings for the day and just you know,
- 2:50Speaker 4: getting a grasp on how many black and go of
- 2:53Speaker 4: fans around here on our on our tiny island.
- 2:56Speaker 2: And you know, it.
- 2:57Speaker 3: Was great to see the the.
- 3:00Speaker 4: The Steelers themselves interacting, you know, and engaging with those posts.
- 3:04Speaker 4: And and Sheff Stears Ireland for for getting involved as well. Bush,
- 3:08Speaker 4: but a great day overall for for fans around the
- 3:12Speaker 4: country and around the world, and then you know, just
- 3:15Speaker 4: to be a little part of putting Ireland on the
- 3:18Speaker 4: map in terms of Steeters found them worldwide.
- 3:22Speaker 2: David.
- 3:23Speaker 1: As Jimmy said, I owned them my phone and I
- 3:25Speaker 1: seeing the lads and Dublin, it was great to see.
- 3:28Speaker 1: The heart warmed a little. I had the chants that
- 3:30Speaker 1: wasn't that a double? Because I was in Belfast, I
- 3:32Speaker 1: had the chance had a couple of them's in Dublin
- 3:34Speaker 1: and Belfast to see slow Steel respons Like on Sunday
- 3:37Speaker 1: there was probably more Steel Responds than any other team there,
- 3:40Speaker 1: which I think says a lot and I think people
- 3:42Speaker 1: are really getting involved. So it's just it's great to
- 3:45Speaker 1: see give them away a few tile have a little
- 3:47Speaker 1: bit of crack as well. Did you see any isles
- 3:50Speaker 1: in Liverpool as well? Yourself obviously over the water.
- 3:54Speaker 5: Of course I did. Yeah, you see towels everywhere everywhere, green, yellow,
- 4:00Speaker 5: no red, thankfully, but honestly, yeah, it was. It was
- 4:03Speaker 5: great to see just obviously some of the photos on
- 4:06Speaker 5: on Sunday. You know, I was a bit of I
- 4:08Speaker 5: became a bit lazy and a bit inconsistent with a
- 4:11Speaker 5: message I decided to post one on Monday. Not many
- 4:14Speaker 5: people have seen this, not blaming them really, but obviously
- 4:17Speaker 5: just on a serious note. Obviously seeing obviously with with
- 4:20Speaker 5: Tom McCormack and and Jimmy Down and U C D
- 4:22Speaker 5: on the Sunday it looks like they're having their their
- 4:24Speaker 5: own little tail git. So it really just shows you,
- 4:27Speaker 5: you know, the level of support the Steelers have on
- 4:29Speaker 5: on the island of Ireland. It's great and as I
- 4:32Speaker 5: saying in all seriousness, you can even feel that the
- 4:35Speaker 5: support even coming over here. You know, it's coming over
- 4:37Speaker 5: the water. It's it's just generating all over the place.
- 4:39Speaker 5: So exciting times you know, to be a Staeters fan
- 4:42Speaker 5: anywhere in the world. So uh, it's good goood to
- 4:45Speaker 5: finally say you know that the advantage coming through Ireland
- 4:47Speaker 5: as well.
- 4:49Speaker 1: And I'm sure we've got big news a couple up
- 4:50Speaker 1: still about this watch party. I'm sure very shortly we're
- 4:54Speaker 1: very excited to hear who when, where, what I tal
- 4:59Speaker 1: went to Earth Boyce certainly will be hopefully all meeting
- 5:02Speaker 1: to the first time he ever felt some very very
- 5:04Speaker 1: excited for that. There before we get our guest on
- 5:07Speaker 1: Gottle talk Aboutkenny like could being in the upfensive captain
- 5:09Speaker 1: took big bet five years. It takes Kenny to what
- 5:13Speaker 1: a statement from this team showing their confidence to trusted
- 5:16Speaker 1: it and all that draft picks and all this internet
- 5:18Speaker 1: top It's eighteen months ago, seems like a long way away.
- 5:22Speaker 1: And now whatever this guy has come in, he's worked
- 5:25Speaker 1: his back side up and he now goes in Sunday
- 5:27Speaker 1: as an offensive leader and a captain of this team.
- 5:30Speaker 1: And I think any fan can be happy one into
- 5:32Speaker 1: this game with something.
- 5:34Speaker 4: Yeah, he's definitely earned him because anyway, just there was
- 5:39Speaker 4: such a jump visible improvement.
- 5:42Speaker 3: You know, throughout the preseason he was in charge of
- 5:46Speaker 3: that offense. You could see he was in command of
- 5:48Speaker 3: the playbook.
- 5:49Speaker 4: He's a fantastic connection with his receivers and like I
- 5:53Speaker 4: said last week, there was just a swagger about him.
- 5:56Speaker 4: And he's obviously instilled confidence in his teammates because of
- 5:59Speaker 4: course captains are voted in by their by their teammates
- 6:03Speaker 4: and by the not but not by coaches of the organization.
- 6:06Speaker 4: It's by the players. So that's very much a statement
- 6:08Speaker 4: of confidence from the team in their quarterback to bey
- 6:11Speaker 4: that they believe that he is the leader to bring
- 6:13Speaker 4: success in twenty twenty three this season and absolutely delighted
- 6:18Speaker 4: for him. And I think it's just gonna this is
- 6:21Speaker 4: just the start of what Kenny's going to do in
- 6:24Speaker 4: this season. And I think being being a captain so
- 6:26Speaker 4: early on in his career is also a stamp of
- 6:30Speaker 4: a stamp of confidence from from from his teammates, you know.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Absolutely, and just at going want Tommy said, they're David,
- 6:38Speaker 1: it's great to see for Kellyan and I give some
- 6:40Speaker 1: huge push going into the season just the right time
- 6:43Speaker 1: as well.
- 6:44Speaker 5: Yeah, just tack go everything. Jimmy said again Michael, that's
- 6:47Speaker 5: fantastic news. And as he said, you know, it's it's
- 6:50Speaker 5: it not only shows the confidence that coach Tomlin hasn't
- 6:53Speaker 5: but but also his teammates, you know, as Jimmy said,
- 6:55Speaker 5: it's it's the teammates have voted them in and it
- 6:58Speaker 5: just highlights, you know, how value he actually years in
- 7:00Speaker 5: the locker room, so only chapping on the offensive side
- 7:03Speaker 5: of the ball, it's another signal that the offense is
- 7:05Speaker 5: gonna r run strictly through him, as you'd expect with
- 7:09Speaker 5: him being the quarterback. But at the same time, It's
- 7:12Speaker 5: not really a surprise because we know the leadership quality
- 7:15Speaker 5: qualities he possesses. You know, only to do is listening
- 7:18Speaker 5: to some of the interviews and watch how he conducts himself,
- 7:20Speaker 5: particularly in preseason and jeronal ties. You know, he's a
- 7:23Speaker 5: born leader. And of course there are gonna be some
- 7:26Speaker 5: questions because he's only going in the second year, but
- 7:29Speaker 5: he's our franchise, QB and it'll only batter the benefit
- 7:32Speaker 5: us going in the long run when it works out
- 7:34Speaker 5: when the obviously if and when it works out. But yeah,
- 7:37Speaker 5: he's gonna have plenty of opportunities to show off, you know,
- 7:40Speaker 5: leadership trace throughout the season, and I'm just looking forward
- 7:42Speaker 5: to seeing it's you know, pembergress throughout us. So it's
- 7:45Speaker 5: not a surprise because we know how good he is,
- 7:47Speaker 5: but it's just the.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Maner of them on.
- 7:49Speaker 4: I feel like one thing I wish the studios would do,
- 7:52Speaker 4: and I'm going to jump in here quickly to make
- 7:54Speaker 4: my voice heard, is I wish they put the captain
- 7:56Speaker 4: cs on the uniforms.
- 7:57Speaker 3: I think it would look absolutely fantastic.
- 7:59Speaker 2: And I see Dave not.
- 8:01Speaker 4: In there in agreement, and I just think that that
- 8:05Speaker 4: a little yellow sea with a couple of starts against
- 8:08Speaker 4: the backdrop of a black uniform or look fantastic. So
- 8:11Speaker 4: if anyone in the Steelers' front office or equipment room
- 8:14Speaker 4: is listening in just given my two cents here from
- 8:17Speaker 4: a fan on the island of Ireland, you'd.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Be sitting with some imagine now that you're going, yes
- 8:22Speaker 1: they heard we are taking or we're taking our guests
- 8:27Speaker 1: to a little bit north. This wee blended to welcome
- 8:29Speaker 1: in a lot led so many times for Rollster, I
- 8:33Speaker 1: should know how many times you played and over one
- 8:36Speaker 1: hundred times for Rolster. If an Iron wolfings as well,
- 8:39Speaker 1: that's the rugby team, not the American football team. If
- 8:42Speaker 1: only it would have been great for the cap in
- 8:44Speaker 1: the Iron Satns as well. A guy from balboss Ian
- 8:47Speaker 1: humphries the light of the balcony along. It's a great
- 8:49Speaker 1: endity in John's.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Folks.
- 8:54Speaker 1: As we get ready for the first week of the
- 8:56Speaker 1: NFL season, it seems like for Ravers this football has
- 8:58Speaker 1: been on we thought pretty season, but now we're on
- 9:01Speaker 1: the real stuff this weekend. Great to have someone let's
- 9:04Speaker 1: playing a sport professionally so close to the only guy
- 9:08Speaker 1: that played for Ulster and fantastic to have them one
- 9:12Speaker 1: and also playing with the art of files as well
- 9:16Speaker 1: and big NFL fan and it's like, it's great to
- 9:18Speaker 1: have you answer good.
- 9:20Speaker 2: Even, Yeah, great, thanks, Thanksture for marn as a set
- 9:23Speaker 2: a bit of an NFL gig Grell believe you two
- 9:25Speaker 2: in terms of some of you guys are sure, but
- 9:27Speaker 2: it's now a definitely sport. I'm Jordan of watching somebody evening.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Absolutely, sir. It's like it's great to get someone all.
- 9:33Speaker 1: I mean, like I've obviously up drone here, so it's
- 9:35Speaker 1: going to get someone all the closer to home. For me,
- 9:37Speaker 1: I always stood crack.
- 9:38Speaker 5: I mean, look, talk to.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Some even about how you got into the NFL, because
- 9:43Speaker 1: I feel like, you know, we spent a couple of
- 9:45Speaker 1: years ago and you've beat it fan for a long time.
- 9:48Speaker 2: I have. Yeah, So, as you said, I played rugby
- 9:52Speaker 2: professionally and my first drub was actually over an ignorant
- 9:54Speaker 2: Lester Tigers and I joined them in two thousand and five.
- 9:58Speaker 2: And when I was joining them with as her background
- 10:00Speaker 2: a bit Lester and their men player was Martin Johnson
- 10:03Speaker 2: and British and Lions captain bit of a legend of
- 10:05Speaker 2: the game and he was a big NFL gig, so
- 10:07Speaker 2: he was talking all with the NFL predictions. So from
- 10:10Speaker 2: then I started taking a little bit of it because
- 10:13Speaker 2: in case ever spoke to me, there's something doctor, you know,
- 10:15Speaker 2: I said rugby to sort of try and build the
- 10:17Speaker 2: lists of that kind of thing. And then in two
- 10:19Speaker 2: thousand and seven a few of us get tickets for
- 10:21Speaker 2: the first international game in London was the Dolphin Giants. Now,
- 10:26Speaker 2: fortunately we had a game that day and I picked
- 10:29Speaker 2: up a knock plus it was running and I bottled
- 10:32Speaker 2: it because it wasn't that big a geek back then
- 10:34Speaker 2: and didn't enjoy it. So on for his didn't go
- 10:36Speaker 2: so I kind of flirted with it away bit. But
- 10:39Speaker 2: then in twenty fourteen I had an opportunity to go
- 10:42Speaker 2: over with the BBC to do a kicking. I didn't
- 10:46Speaker 2: even know what it was. It was like a pr
- 10:48Speaker 2: thing for BBC and Ulstar Rugby with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
- 10:51Speaker 2: So I did that with Josh Scrubbery and like, I
- 10:53Speaker 2: loved it and I was hooked from then on. So
- 10:57Speaker 2: the following year would have been twenty fourteen, and that
- 11:03Speaker 2: season it was I sort of badgered Scooby for a
- 11:06Speaker 2: while kicking because I kicked in rugby and I was
- 11:07Speaker 2: just really intrigued it so badgered him, but going to
- 11:10Speaker 2: kick with him over in America, but he wasn't free
- 11:13Speaker 2: when it suited me, so he sent me his coach,
- 11:15Speaker 2: which is a guy called Coop Zuner. He was a
- 11:18Speaker 2: special teams coordinator and stuff, and spent a week with
- 11:21Speaker 2: him in Arizona and just completely coincidentally, the Super bowls
- 11:25Speaker 2: on that weekend, like complete coincidence, and it happened to
- 11:28Speaker 2: be the Super Bowl forty nine, which was the Patriots
- 11:31Speaker 2: against Patriots against the Seahawks and Malcolm Butler's in perception,
- 11:37Speaker 2: so like I came home from that absolutely buzzhim. And
- 11:40Speaker 2: from then on I've just immersed myself in the game,
- 11:43Speaker 2: listening to four or five different podcasts every week, and yeah,
- 11:46Speaker 2: I just love everything to.
- 11:47Speaker 4: Do with it, and it's becoming a real kind of
- 11:53Speaker 4: golden time with the game of American football here in Ireland.
- 11:58Speaker 4: Would you have known much about the Steeters links to
- 12:01Speaker 4: Newry and Northern Ireland at all?
- 12:04Speaker 2: Yeah, it did actually, so again just talking about the
- 12:06Speaker 2: Super Bowl, there was what with a guy Matt Craig.
- 12:09Speaker 2: His name is he's an America. If he lived in
- 12:10Speaker 2: my village, I don't know. He was involved back then
- 12:14Speaker 2: and sort of the links stream American football, the colleges
- 12:17Speaker 2: and I have at the Irish NFL or the Irish
- 12:20Speaker 2: Barkan football team. So he had actually met mister Rooney
- 12:23Speaker 2: a few times. So funnily enough, on our trip he
- 12:26Speaker 2: met up with I can't remember it is now, but
- 12:29Speaker 2: somebody who was big in the Steelers at the time,
- 12:31Speaker 2: because they were continuing to forwarde the links, so you'd
- 12:33Speaker 2: always a part about it, and you hear about He followed,
- 12:36Speaker 2: I'm just actually in the same We're a quaid crossset teacher.
- 12:41Speaker 2: I just love Anthony dew with Nordland on sports. So
- 12:44Speaker 2: when you hear about Muri in the NFL, like you're
- 12:46Speaker 2: automatically intrigued. So, yeah, Matt would have told me about
- 12:50Speaker 2: the Runeys and all that kind of stuff, so I
- 12:51Speaker 2: would have learned about them, learned with the Links. And
- 12:53Speaker 2: then in fact, they do scholarships for guys to go
- 12:56Speaker 2: over to America and college and stuff. So and then
- 13:00Speaker 2: what intrigues you more is you hear about his Rooney
- 13:02Speaker 2: rude and like, I just think that's sensational that somebody
- 13:05Speaker 2: can be that intrementious. So to sort of think that
- 13:08Speaker 2: they've got the roots in northern Nowland, it's pretty cool.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Like so, yeah, I would know a little bit. Like
- 13:12Speaker 2: I'm not going to say I know all about them,
- 13:14Speaker 2: but certainly I've heard of them, and I know about
- 13:16Speaker 2: the Staelers are SLINKs.
- 13:19Speaker 5: Yeah, they're certainly strong anyway. But you know, we've seen
- 13:22Speaker 5: ian a few players have made the move from rugby
- 13:25Speaker 5: to American football, particularly some of the younger players. You know,
- 13:28Speaker 5: you imagine they're about just been a bit of time
- 13:30Speaker 5: with the I think it was Goss Bradley and the Jags.
- 13:34Speaker 5: They were trying to commit to you to do a
- 13:35Speaker 5: bit of kicking as well, which of what was funny
- 13:37Speaker 5: and can just taught us if you can, you know
- 13:40Speaker 5: about the differences between the two sports. Obviously a lot
- 13:42Speaker 5: of allows made, obviously, but the shape of the ball
- 13:44Speaker 5: and the physicality. Is there anything else maybe that wouldn't
- 13:47Speaker 5: catch the eye of the regular viewer if youel like yes, So.
- 13:50Speaker 2: The biggest thing in American football and rugby is all
- 13:54Speaker 2: of the rugby guys have to defend that attack on
- 13:57Speaker 2: theig question whether I actually have a defend it because
- 13:59Speaker 2: I hear it side of the game, but you have
- 14:01Speaker 2: to sort of know how it works both ways. Obviously
- 14:03Speaker 2: in the NFL you have your attack and your offense
- 14:06Speaker 2: and defense. The level of detail the American footballers have
- 14:10Speaker 2: to get into is just phenomenal. Like I remember a
- 14:12Speaker 2: few of our our sort of pre season and rugby
- 14:15Speaker 2: that would have said, right, we're going to follow the
- 14:16Speaker 2: NFL model. We're going to win at six and home
- 14:19Speaker 2: at five or home at seven.
- 14:20Speaker 5: It just there wasn't that.
- 14:22Speaker 2: Much to learn with rugby, so like the level of
- 14:24Speaker 2: detail that those guys went to is just different. Greer again,
- 14:28Speaker 2: I suppose the other big difference is they probably work
- 14:31Speaker 2: for what five six seconds in every play predominantly. Obviously
- 14:35Speaker 2: you get a couple of ross are players who have
- 14:37Speaker 2: lasted a minute and a half, which doesn't seem like
- 14:39Speaker 2: very much, but actually when you compare the difference, it
- 14:42Speaker 2: is hugely different. So our guys have to have be
- 14:44Speaker 2: different athlatic endurance, I guess, but there's definitely a huge crossover.
- 14:51Speaker 2: I think the difficulty from looking from the outside for
- 14:55Speaker 2: for any other sports, moving the NFL at a late stage,
- 14:57Speaker 2: you would be the understanding concepts of who the blo
- 15:00Speaker 2: all those kind of different things, all the inteatacies of
- 15:03Speaker 2: the line. So for me, like Christian Wade went in
- 15:07Speaker 2: as a as I running back and look sharp, but
- 15:10Speaker 2: obviously couldn't step up to know his certain rules. I
- 15:13Speaker 2: think Christian Scott and Williamson and Alex Gray were tight
- 15:16Speaker 2: ends and seemed to be doing all right. I guess
- 15:18Speaker 2: the biggest hits Jordan my Ladder. No, I know he's
- 15:20Speaker 2: rugby league, but he's just such an animal of a man,
- 15:23Speaker 2: like somebody who's that big, and I think he's I
- 15:26Speaker 2: remember speaking to a few good people here serve involved
- 15:29Speaker 2: International Pathway a few weeks ago. So much of it
- 15:33Speaker 2: depends on whether they get into the right circumstance. Then
- 15:35Speaker 2: my Ladder went to the Eagles. You've got obviously so
- 15:37Speaker 2: much experience to me and John sid Wits Was Kelsey
- 15:41Speaker 2: and those other guys around in London. I think there's
- 15:43Speaker 2: something the other one in there, and you're just kind
- 15:45Speaker 2: of going right circumstance freak of an athlete and has
- 15:48Speaker 2: worked so well for him. So there are some Ladder
- 15:51Speaker 2: b But again I there's so many differences that certain
- 15:55Speaker 2: NFL players to cross super and play. I think the
- 15:58Speaker 2: name's gone off my head, but the Patriots player who
- 16:01Speaker 2: played for the US egos as well. But I think
- 16:06Speaker 2: the crossover, when you're coming into a sport that leaps
- 16:08Speaker 2: two minyon, is really to make it that that good
- 16:11Speaker 2: an easier transition.
- 16:14Speaker 1: Who knows, maybe we'll see Jolly play or make the
- 16:16Speaker 1: transition after winning the World Club a few mix in.
- 16:19Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly. I mean the kicker is the obvious one,
- 16:21Speaker 2: and I think I don't know if you should have
- 16:23Speaker 2: you know about Tag leader and all his kicking, like
- 16:26Speaker 2: I think what James brilliant. I think obviously I had
- 16:29Speaker 2: a bit of kicking, and there's definitely obortunity for guys
- 16:32Speaker 2: to give over US goal kickers. For me, it's more
- 16:34Speaker 2: as a goal kicker, even though Tags and the three punplers,
- 16:37Speaker 2: because rugby guys have goal kicks since there at nine
- 16:39Speaker 2: years old. Most of those NFL kickers are biging soccer
- 16:42Speaker 2: players converted to college. So for me, I guess just
- 16:46Speaker 2: seems a bit of a new brainer. But obviously, hopefully
- 16:48Speaker 2: over the next wild Tag can up a few guys
- 16:50Speaker 2: in the NFL.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Absolutely absolutely, if we roll onto the Stadiers and and
- 16:57Speaker 1: you mentioned leaving there, but at the Runey family, has
- 17:00Speaker 1: been any certain player that you can enjoyed watching with
- 17:03Speaker 1: the Steelers franchise, just doll in three years of being
- 17:05Speaker 1: an NFL on this one player the guy or two players,
- 17:07Speaker 1: they go.
- 17:08Speaker 2: I'm going to be a paying so forward because Troy
- 17:12Speaker 2: palm Alloy was the one like he was just you
- 17:15Speaker 2: love his energy and he's a year of older than me.
- 17:17Speaker 2: So when he came into the draft and I started
- 17:19Speaker 2: getting into the NFL, you kind of look, what kind
- 17:23Speaker 2: of guys are your equivalent? And obviously not size and shape,
- 17:26Speaker 2: but in terms of edge profile, there's always nice to go, well,
- 17:29Speaker 2: he's in the top of his game. Where am I
- 17:31Speaker 2: in my game? So he was one that really stood
- 17:32Speaker 2: out his energy that he played with. I was really
- 17:35Speaker 2: friendly with a few some ones, a few bullonees and
- 17:37Speaker 2: got lesser tiger And obviously he's Americans from the cent
- 17:40Speaker 2: so you kind of see the similarities in how they behave.
- 17:43Speaker 2: But then sort of a more recent time like the
- 17:47Speaker 2: three statut of the three be easy Roussis Berber, Antonio
- 17:51Speaker 2: Brown and Leveyan Bell and Antonio Brown. Sorry, like the
- 17:55Speaker 2: three of M's just the fact that at times the
- 17:58Speaker 2: Steelers didn't necessarily seem that the best roster, but those three,
- 18:02Speaker 2: like in rugby, all I was obsessed with the attack
- 18:04Speaker 2: and so whenever I watch NFL, I love the offensive players,
- 18:07Speaker 2: you know, for the most part, and I just thought
- 18:09Speaker 2: they were fantastic. And I think then when you see
- 18:13Speaker 2: how Levey Umbrella and Toryo Brian got all on the
- 18:16Speaker 2: aft the Steelers, you've got to think how unbelievable was
- 18:20Speaker 2: coach Tomlin that he was able to keep them under
- 18:22Speaker 2: control and get them a base so successful. So in
- 18:25Speaker 2: terms of players, those three, but I just love Tomlin.
- 18:28Speaker 2: The fact he's he has another losing season, it's not
- 18:31Speaker 2: it's not right. I think. I think I'm right saying
- 18:33Speaker 2: he's never losing, which is just it's just phenomenal in
- 18:36Speaker 2: any sport. And it's not like he's only two or
- 18:38Speaker 2: three years going like it's he's somebody that you look
- 18:41Speaker 2: at and just think, Aaron love to be coached by
- 18:42Speaker 2: something like that.
- 18:46Speaker 4: Ian We've recently seen the game grow an amazing lens
- 18:50Speaker 4: here and the Steelers that have now joined the market
- 18:54Speaker 4: of the Ireland New Ireland through the the NFL's Glove
- 18:56Speaker 4: of Markets program, so as a fan, like how excited
- 19:00Speaker 4: does does this make you feel for the future of
- 19:03Speaker 4: the game here in Ireland?
- 19:04Speaker 2: Massive? I think it's up until a couple of years ago.
- 19:08Speaker 2: You titles some of you enjoy NFL right football they
- 19:10Speaker 2: think you're aware of, like you know, it's like what
- 19:13Speaker 2: do you mean, Like do you set up to all ours?
- 19:15Speaker 2: And you're kind of going wow a little bit. But
- 19:17Speaker 2: the more more accessful is the more it's just the
- 19:20Speaker 2: fact you're saying all the clips and social media, you're
- 19:22Speaker 2: seeing more guys walking around the streets in the in
- 19:24Speaker 2: the playing tops and T shirts, and I think it's
- 19:28Speaker 2: just great for the game. The more exposure there is
- 19:31Speaker 2: that the more it can grow. I'm in sports agency world,
- 19:33Speaker 2: so the more sports are going in general, it's great
- 19:36Speaker 2: for me personally in my job that sport is growing commercially.
- 19:40Speaker 2: But I think for NFL and Ireland like just such
- 19:43Speaker 2: an opportunity. We see whenever any sporting event happens over here,
- 19:47Speaker 2: the place goes mad. For we're seeing some of the
- 19:49Speaker 2: colleagues games. The stadiums are pretty much so light, so
- 19:52Speaker 2: I think the Steelers are really ahead of the game
- 19:54Speaker 2: trying to break across here. I think the fact that
- 19:57Speaker 2: it's going to be more accessible is can really be
- 20:00Speaker 2: a good thing, you know. And I think studiers with
- 20:02Speaker 2: their r SLINKs with the releasing yeary, I think they've
- 20:05Speaker 2: done really well and hopefully it can lead to college
- 20:07Speaker 2: games and that you knows what the future made after that.
- 20:12Speaker 4: As someone who has been multiple times called the word
- 20:16Speaker 4: of her for support and the NFL team in the past,
- 20:19Speaker 4: I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one getting
- 20:21Speaker 4: stick for being one of the fore runners of American
- 20:25Speaker 4: football in Ireland.
- 20:27Speaker 2: Totally. People don't get it. My wife doesn't understand why
- 20:30Speaker 2: the Sunday night I might decide to set up a
- 20:31Speaker 2: bit longer. She just she thinks I'm bad. But sure,
- 20:34Speaker 2: we're all good. Well, it's all good fun, I said.
- 20:38Speaker 5: Hardcore fans like ourselves.
- 20:39Speaker 2: We sort of know what like.
- 20:41Speaker 5: You know, people do tend to pick on us a
- 20:43Speaker 5: bit if you like. But I suppose you know that
- 20:45Speaker 5: you mentioned there about Potasi, you know, college games and stuff.
- 20:48Speaker 5: I mean, the ultimate dream you'd have to agree in
- 20:50Speaker 5: would just be be getting the game here obviously hopefully
- 20:52Speaker 5: in Crowe Park, even if it was just in Dublin.
- 20:54Speaker 5: Would have to get you know, Raven Hill involved somehow,
- 20:57Speaker 5: maybe even the new casement. What do you think on
- 20:59Speaker 5: like maybe the thoughts on that.
- 21:01Speaker 2: Listen, I think it has to Like the NFL are
- 21:03Speaker 2: probably one of the best global machines there are in
- 21:07Speaker 2: terms of meg and money. They're printing money. Everything they
- 21:09Speaker 2: do is to make money, and so they'd be mad
- 21:12Speaker 2: not to. Like we saw the game in Germany and
- 21:15Speaker 2: Aras chat with somebody who's trying to get tickets for
- 21:16Speaker 2: the Chiefs game, and he was saying when he signed
- 21:19Speaker 2: on to the ticket master whatever it was selling tickets,
- 21:22Speaker 2: he was over a million in the queue. So like,
- 21:24Speaker 2: I think that's so right. Every two or three minutes
- 21:27Speaker 2: we said that if how much the college games are
- 21:29Speaker 2: good there following the international games and the tickets are
- 21:31Speaker 2: at goal dust, if we could get a game on
- 21:34Speaker 2: Ireland like you could sell it three four times over.
- 21:36Speaker 2: And it has to be a matter of time before
- 21:38Speaker 2: there's a UK or European based team. Which team that is,
- 21:42Speaker 2: whether it's an expansion franchise, whether it's a Jaguars, whether
- 21:45Speaker 2: it's who knows where it's going to be. But I
- 21:47Speaker 2: think at some point there has to be somebody based
- 21:50Speaker 2: in the UK or I think UK is probably the
- 21:53Speaker 2: best with Spurs with that agreement with our stadium and
- 21:56Speaker 2: obviously a purpose built pitch and everything they're well set
- 21:59Speaker 2: up for the future. Game in Ireland would just be phenomenal.
- 22:02Speaker 2: We were too. Concerns about that is rugby uses enough
- 22:06Speaker 2: good athletes to the Gaelic games. We don't want to
- 22:08Speaker 2: lose anymore to the NFL teams. And also then the
- 22:11Speaker 2: weather like that, that is obviously a genuine concern because
- 22:13Speaker 2: as I said, that first game in Wembley back in
- 22:17Speaker 2: two thousand and seven was a complete warshite and we've
- 22:20Speaker 2: seen that one once or twice. So whether or not
- 22:22Speaker 2: they have to make sure ups a really good surface
- 22:24Speaker 2: because I think you only really get one or two
- 22:27Speaker 2: chances to impress, especially the NFL, and if you're going
- 22:30Speaker 2: to have a per pitch, per weather, all that kind
- 22:32Speaker 2: of stuff, you can't afford that. But listen, as we said,
- 22:34Speaker 2: Crook Park, the Viva, there's a number of the Gaelic
- 22:37Speaker 2: stdiums are phenomenal as well. Park of Keya, Griba, Dining
- 22:41Speaker 2: in a Pork as well. I think it's it Cork Limerick. Sorry,
- 22:44Speaker 2: Like there's so many incredibles to Celtics, and we know
- 22:47Speaker 2: that ours fans, they would just make all the teams
- 22:49Speaker 2: so welcome and make it like it would be like
- 22:51Speaker 2: another Super Bowl occasion for the players playing over here.
- 22:55Speaker 1: I went to the show more Pool and we having
- 22:57Speaker 1: a last year, and I have to say, if it
- 22:59Speaker 1: does happen, at some point we'll move away from the
- 23:02Speaker 1: dream game all game. But if it does happen, it
- 23:05Speaker 1: will be great to see whoever's playing, and hopefully it
- 23:07Speaker 1: will be the Steelers, but great to see them. I
- 23:10Speaker 1: don't make maybe trailing doll faster for a day because
- 23:12Speaker 1: they've got the facilities there and it's it's it's great
- 23:14Speaker 1: to even do like a trailer sasch or something. I'm
- 23:15Speaker 1: out and putting the ideas and the people listening to
- 23:18Speaker 1: this podcast, but I guess even just sort of jumping
- 23:21Speaker 1: on obviously looking season starts this weekend, everyone over here
- 23:24Speaker 1: is pretty pumped excited. That's Steelers n Iris game is
- 23:27Speaker 1: going to be fantastic and and I know we'll talk
- 23:29Speaker 1: about that in a week at it but the asc
- 23:31Speaker 1: North with the Bengals, the Ravens, Browns and the Staters
- 23:36Speaker 1: is it's just a great division I'm just sort of
- 23:38Speaker 1: wondering what your thoughts is on that division general.
- 23:41Speaker 2: So like I think far the division of the Patriots
- 23:46Speaker 2: and UH and the Dolphins and not group. This is
- 23:50Speaker 2: probably the hardest for me to pick who's gonna who's
- 23:53Speaker 2: gonna come out top. The overst answer is the Bengals,
- 23:56Speaker 2: as Joe Burrow like, he's phenomenal players, as he said
- 23:59Speaker 2: last year, while he's their quarterback, their windows always open
- 24:02Speaker 2: than because what his his famous line was last year.
- 24:04Speaker 2: I think for the the Steelers, sol about the quarterback,
- 24:08Speaker 2: isn't it. I think then the Browns against it's all
- 24:11Speaker 2: about the quarterback. Whether you like what they've done, whether
- 24:14Speaker 2: you don't, that's a conversation for another day. But there's
- 24:17Speaker 2: no no question that their roster's up there for the best.
- 24:20Speaker 2: And then with the Revens, when you've got Lamar, you've
- 24:22Speaker 2: always got a chance. They've had an OBJ I think
- 24:24Speaker 2: you play color as well, so and they unleashed their
- 24:28Speaker 2: wide receiver, and that's the question for the For the
- 24:30Speaker 2: Revens always, you know, but Steelers, it's it's gonna be tough,
- 24:34Speaker 2: But I really think they've got a good roster where
- 24:36Speaker 2: hopefully they can go in and do something, and Bengals
- 24:40Speaker 2: probably slight favorites. But again, like if they start suing,
- 24:45Speaker 2: you don't know. Burrow had a calf injured pre season.
- 24:48Speaker 2: Is he good to go? Is he not? They tend
- 24:50Speaker 2: to start sowing last year, I think we lost the
- 24:52Speaker 2: first three may So I think it's gonna be really
- 24:55Speaker 2: tough and probably the tightest. For me. It's the typest
- 24:58Speaker 2: of all the confidence to try called all the groups.
- 25:02Speaker 4: I definitely agree with you Ian about this, the quarterback
- 25:05Speaker 4: being keep and the steeers, and we look at the
- 25:08Speaker 4: quarterback Kenny Pickett.
- 25:09Speaker 3: He's made massive progress this year. We've already seen that.
- 25:12Speaker 4: It become evident in the preseason, and he was rewarded
- 25:16Speaker 4: for that progress by being made captain during the week.
- 25:20Speaker 4: But for you, what do you kind of make of
- 25:22Speaker 4: the progress that he's made so far?
- 25:24Speaker 2: Yeah, it's huge. I think I think he's done really
- 25:27Speaker 2: really well. Obviously, there's a lot made to the fact
- 25:29Speaker 2: he went to you know, versus of Pittsburgh, and that
- 25:33Speaker 2: was obviously he was he was well aware of training facility,
- 25:35Speaker 2: the coaches were aware of him, and he was obviously
- 25:37Speaker 2: comfortable surroundments. I think the fact when he got into
- 25:40Speaker 2: the job, probably could have come a couple of weeks
- 25:44Speaker 2: earlier last year, but I think they're always quite good
- 25:46Speaker 2: not to rush in and rushing the ruppies, and he
- 25:50Speaker 2: had a few turnovers last year, which we suddenly you'll
- 25:52Speaker 2: want to eradicate. I think listen to the draft. I'm
- 25:55Speaker 2: a bit of a gig. Listen to the draft stuff
- 25:58Speaker 2: with Mariga sticks that that podcast never all going on
- 26:01Speaker 2: a bet size of his hands, whether that was a
- 26:03Speaker 2: worry in the bad weather it was gonna be. But
- 26:05Speaker 2: I think he's shown plenty that he's he's pure class,
- 26:08Speaker 2: pure quality, and if he can get his chemistry gone
- 26:11Speaker 2: with George Pickings, I really think he can thrive this year.
- 26:15Speaker 2: But as we said, look at all doors, Tory at
- 26:17Speaker 2: the all doors, rely on on on him and in
- 26:21Speaker 2: the quarterback, and hopefully the defense can help him out
- 26:23Speaker 2: if there's an issues. But I think we've seen strike
- 26:26Speaker 2: if you said preseason seemed to go pretty well, and
- 26:29Speaker 2: obviously start of the year we'll see how it goes.
- 26:31Speaker 2: But hopefully he can have another big step up and
- 26:33Speaker 2: take another leap forward, because if he fires with Tom
- 26:36Speaker 2: and as coach, he doesn't think they're going to do well.
- 26:40Speaker 3: Yeah, we're definitely cautiously optimistic.
- 26:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that's it exactly. It is here too.
- 26:45Speaker 2: There's going to be bumps in the road, but I
- 26:47Speaker 2: think as long as we just as long as we
- 26:49Speaker 2: just the Steelers can can see gradual or improvement, then
- 26:53Speaker 2: as Yeah, positive all around and hopefully that's sensors quarterback
- 26:56Speaker 2: for the next ten.
- 27:00Speaker 5: Yeah, we're all talking about, you know, progression and the
- 27:03Speaker 5: stuffy And I don't know if you've been listening to
- 27:05Speaker 5: the podcast in the past couple of weeks, but I've
- 27:07Speaker 5: boldly went out and said that I think Kenny Pickett's
- 27:09Speaker 5: going to win the MVP. Maybe maybe it's todd ambitious,
- 27:13Speaker 5: of course, but we'll we'll probably find out sooner rather
- 27:16Speaker 5: than later. You know, we're speaking about obviously Kenny Picketts
- 27:18Speaker 5: and you know, and the forty nine Ers this week.
- 27:21Speaker 5: It's you know, they're obviously a great team, great defense,
- 27:24Speaker 5: never mind just playing on week one. How impressed were
- 27:26Speaker 5: you with Brock Purty last year? Obviously mister irrelevant in
- 27:29Speaker 5: the draft and nobody expected to see him, you know,
- 27:33Speaker 5: raise the fame so quickly. I feel like, have you
- 27:35Speaker 5: been impressed with him so far or like, how do
- 27:37Speaker 5: you see m maybe pretense he matching up guesses in
- 27:39Speaker 5: week one.
- 27:41Speaker 2: Phenomenon. Yeah, you have to just say credit, you know,
- 27:44Speaker 2: because as you said, mister relevant, that can't be good
- 27:46Speaker 2: to the ego, you know, to be picked almost like
- 27:49Speaker 2: a laugh and almost for for one of the better phrase.
- 27:53Speaker 2: But what he's done so well, he spit it into
- 27:54Speaker 2: their system. The reports on his draft reports was how
- 27:58Speaker 2: high intelligent he was. And I think for all Kyle Shanahan,
- 28:03Speaker 2: all his quarterbacks, apparently the way he sets it up,
- 28:06Speaker 2: if you're a good processor, then you can go pretty
- 28:09Speaker 2: well to be the third choice and have the injuries
- 28:12Speaker 2: obviously to the two right two guys ahead of them,
- 28:16Speaker 2: to be thrown in. When he was throwing in, he
- 28:18Speaker 2: did extremely well. I'd say again, I'm quoting in one
- 28:21Speaker 2: of the podcasts I listened to you last week before
- 28:24Speaker 2: Tis Shanahan's off offense or offense for everywhere you said
- 28:28Speaker 2: they tend to have the highest TB hits of any
- 28:31Speaker 2: other system. So the big question is, well, not Rock
- 28:35Speaker 2: Purty can stay fit? Can I stay healthy? We've seen
- 28:37Speaker 2: Jimmy g has been down injured and we're saying they
- 28:40Speaker 2: have just had the release trade Lands because he well
- 28:42Speaker 2: he obviously didn't make the cut for them, but he
- 28:44Speaker 2: obviously had picked up a few injuries as well, and
- 28:46Speaker 2: you're kind of going, is this a problem that yes, Okay,
- 28:49Speaker 2: he's always a very success for what he does, but
- 28:52Speaker 2: if he's been a quarterback on their profession, we've seen
- 28:54Speaker 2: brock Purty had a few knots, but like he got
- 28:57Speaker 2: through the preseason, he looks sharp. He's going to be dangerous.
- 29:00Speaker 2: But you'd like to think that TJ. Watt hopefully can
- 29:03Speaker 2: get into him early and you get a couple of
- 29:05Speaker 2: early hits on them and then you just know the
- 29:07Speaker 2: nerves come back and hopefully then it still just go
- 29:10Speaker 2: put them under pressure.
- 29:11Speaker 5: I was just actually I'm backing as well obviously about
- 29:14Speaker 5: you know, the last thing you want coming off an
- 29:17Speaker 5: injury is to find out that they're playing t J.
- 29:18Speaker 5: Watt and the Steelers and wake one that's it's pound
- 29:20Speaker 5: to be, you know, sort of kicking the stones if
- 29:22Speaker 5: you like.
- 29:23Speaker 2: Well, certainly you saw TJ. What was it with at
- 29:25Speaker 2: McAfee has the bet about whether or not he's going
- 29:28Speaker 2: to break the sack record, so he'll be well fired
- 29:31Speaker 2: up to go off early and I think he'll fancy
- 29:34Speaker 2: his chances this first week about getting off the fast
- 29:36Speaker 2: start and trying to break was twenty two twenty two
- 29:38Speaker 2: and a half times something that sacked we got a
- 29:40Speaker 2: couple of years ago. Any if you're looking to sort
- 29:42Speaker 2: of I would say, if you're looking to try and
- 29:43Speaker 2: re again his defensive player of the year, or.
- 29:46Speaker 1: We get to have that game on TV here the
- 29:48Speaker 1: weekend as well, looking forward to watching the game of
- 29:50Speaker 1: week one, even before before we let you leave us
- 29:53Speaker 1: finally in the game of the wole prediction for the
- 29:55Speaker 1: Staelers out of the same, is there anything you want
- 29:58Speaker 1: to wet the whistle show? We say as going into
- 30:01Speaker 1: this key period of the year.
- 30:04Speaker 2: So I wrecked in t J. Watt will be defensive
- 30:06Speaker 2: Player of the year. I reckon you break that sack record.
- 30:10Speaker 2: I wreck think you'll get well. The Staders will end
- 30:13Speaker 2: up with the wild car. I still think the Bengals
- 30:16Speaker 2: will hit them, but I think they're so strong i'll
- 30:19Speaker 2: get a wild car. I think they'll win the first
- 30:22Speaker 2: one and then who knows. So I'm gonna say they're
- 30:24Speaker 2: gonna go. They're gonna have at least two, if not
- 30:27Speaker 2: more games in the in the playoffs, so I would
- 30:29Speaker 2: love to see him go the whole way, whether or
- 30:31Speaker 2: not the kind yet as listened as we said, it
- 30:34Speaker 2: all depends on the quarterback.
- 30:37Speaker 1: Ian, thank you so much for coming on.
- 30:38Speaker 2: Man.
- 30:38Speaker 1: Hopefully I'm sure we get Charlie in at some point,
- 30:40Speaker 1: but if not, for no enjoy the season. It will
- 30:43Speaker 1: fly in and hopefully we're talking in Las Vegas when
- 30:46Speaker 1: the Staders are playing and we will.
- 30:47Speaker 2: Chat these sing I'll be calling you up for a
- 30:50Speaker 2: ticket to that one now, brother, It's all.
- 30:55Speaker 1: Greaty here for me and Ian fantastic to get a
- 30:58Speaker 1: fel and really supports the game and I am appreciating
- 31:02Speaker 1: and coming on and Jimmy great to get a different
- 31:06Speaker 1: perspective this week. Yeah, rugby guy signs a kex time
- 31:10Speaker 1: of the year, but the stitelers the season more.
- 31:12Speaker 4: And you boys definitely got your revenge having three Northern
- 31:15Speaker 4: northernners on this week, so I'm sure you I'm sure
- 31:18Speaker 4: you were.
- 31:19Speaker 3: You were loving not and absolutely you mean. Great to
- 31:21Speaker 3: hear from someone with such a which is such a.
- 31:23Speaker 4: Vast sporting knowledge, and also to hear hear a story
- 31:27Speaker 4: about how we got into the game and got it
- 31:29Speaker 4: involved and interested in the American football and talking about
- 31:32Speaker 4: the importance of those international games and in broadening the
- 31:38Speaker 4: the awareness of the sport on this side of the
- 31:40Speaker 4: Ocean and this side of the Atlantic, and also to
- 31:42Speaker 4: hear his optimism about the future of a profession of
- 31:45Speaker 4: an NFL game here and so now, absolutely, we're a
- 31:49Speaker 4: great guy and really really delighted to have him on
- 31:52Speaker 4: the podcast.
- 31:53Speaker 1: Absolutely. Indeed, you know, just going with Jimmy said it,
- 31:56Speaker 1: it stunted like there's a lot of Steelers in the Ulstra,
- 31:59Speaker 1: right that can be interesting at some point, sounds like
- 32:02Speaker 1: there's a lot of money and.
- 32:03Speaker 5: Joined the end of yeah, start up for the Steeler boys,
- 32:06Speaker 5: if you like him, said Michael. But I suppose you
- 32:10Speaker 5: could say that, you know, but it doesn't surprise me. Again,
- 32:14Speaker 5: you know, obviously being from the North, we see Steeler
- 32:17Speaker 5: tops all over the place, you know, we see them
- 32:19Speaker 5: with Corone, we see them in Derry, we see them
- 32:21Speaker 5: in Entrum, we see them. We see them all over
- 32:23Speaker 5: the place. So and it's the same as downside as well.
- 32:26Speaker 5: You know, we get all sorts of all sorts of
- 32:29Speaker 5: Steelers fans thread and obviously it's good talking the end obviously,
- 32:32Speaker 5: comparing the sports as well with rugby. There's a massive
- 32:34Speaker 5: connection as everybody knows. So it's just one of those
- 32:37Speaker 5: where it's it's good to get some insight into the
- 32:39Speaker 5: aspect of the game as well.
- 32:41Speaker 2: Well.
- 32:42Speaker 1: Then add to hear from me and appreciate them coming on.
- 32:45Speaker 1: I'm sure we get them all again at some point.
- 32:46Speaker 1: I do know there's a few Ulsters and Steelers fans,
- 32:50Speaker 1: so I'll get back to you to that, and that's
- 32:53Speaker 1: not add to the speak. It's hard not to add
- 32:55Speaker 1: to the speak.
- 32:56Speaker 2: Boys. Just very quickly.
- 32:57Speaker 1: We will come back and we're going to record a
- 32:59Speaker 1: Monday to this first game. I'll come back as soon
- 33:01Speaker 1: as possible, probably enchows that we want to hear your
- 33:04Speaker 1: thoughts from this game. Used at Staters Ireland on x, Instagram,
- 33:10Speaker 1: on TikTok and let us know how you find this
- 33:12Speaker 1: first game. We'll also try and add some audio from
- 33:14Speaker 1: coach to off for the first game, and that's.
- 33:16Speaker 2: Preview the game.
- 33:17Speaker 1: First off, Theaters will up against the forty Landers in
- 33:20Speaker 1: Orchestra Studio six pm. The game is televised on NFL
- 33:24Speaker 1: Game Pass International and it's also on television in Ireland
- 33:28Speaker 1: and you can't do check out your number providers or that,
- 33:31Speaker 1: and Jimmy, I guess the first thing for me the
- 33:33Speaker 1: start was like, you know, taking a whole time away
- 33:34Speaker 1: from the Staters, You're bringing a nine ers team in
- 33:37Speaker 1: the Pittsburgh that went so far last season. There was
- 33:40Speaker 1: a point in December last year I thought the all
- 33:42Speaker 1: the way brog Berdy comes in, does so so well,
- 33:45Speaker 1: gets injured. But now they're saying, both in Santa Clara
- 33:49Speaker 1: and both in the way that he showed himself in
- 33:51Speaker 1: the preseason that he's almost better than what he was.
- 33:54Speaker 1: He's developed in more. And then you have that different
- 33:56Speaker 1: backtor as well, where you've got that trio in Christian McCaffrey,
- 34:00Speaker 1: George kittle Brand of the UK and Deebo. Also. It
- 34:04Speaker 1: is a huge performance needed, really huge performance needed from
- 34:07Speaker 1: the Stateers defense. But that being said, we have talked
- 34:10Speaker 1: for the last two to three to four weeks about
- 34:13Speaker 1: how good the Steelers offense is, so on paper, this
- 34:16Speaker 1: could be the hell of a game.
- 34:18Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 34:19Speaker 4: I think it's gonna be a massive battle on both
- 34:21Speaker 4: sides of the ball. Michael, it's gonna be fireworks. And
- 34:26Speaker 4: you look at him like he's just said that the
- 34:27Speaker 4: weapons that the Niners have there. I think it's just
- 34:31Speaker 4: it's possibly just too many playmakers for the Stedars defense
- 34:34Speaker 4: to shut down completely. And I think they're give they'll
- 34:37Speaker 4: give it their best shot. And I think, you know,
- 34:39Speaker 4: our our defense has to play out of their skin
- 34:41Speaker 4: on Sunday to contain all those pieces.
- 34:44Speaker 3: Obviously, like Ian was saying, t J.
- 34:46Speaker 4: Watton is going to have another stead of season, and
- 34:49Speaker 4: I think he's gonna get started on Sunday against that
- 34:52Speaker 4: against that Niners line. And interestingly, I think the addition
- 34:56Speaker 4: of Desmond King at cornerback is going to be a
- 34:58Speaker 4: massive help. And you know, former former All Pro first
- 35:03Speaker 4: team and second team brought into the balls to the
- 35:06Speaker 4: secondary a little bit. So I think we're I think
- 35:08Speaker 4: both teams are very evenly matched possibly you know too
- 35:12Speaker 4: of their best and their respective in their respective divisions.
- 35:15Speaker 4: And I think offensively as well. There there's still some
- 35:20Speaker 4: uncertainty as to whether Nick Bosa is gonna suit up,
- 35:22Speaker 4: and that could possibly be even a game time decision
- 35:25Speaker 4: or an eleventh hour decision where would they get a
- 35:28Speaker 4: deal done. So if they are with Bosa, it's going
- 35:31Speaker 4: to be a challenge for our for our offensive mine
- 35:34Speaker 4: in particular.
- 35:35Speaker 2: But now it's going to be you know, there's there's matchups.
- 35:38Speaker 4: On over the field and it's our heads are going
- 35:40Speaker 4: to be spinning on Sunday trying to key track of
- 35:42Speaker 4: everything that's going on.
- 35:45Speaker 1: Yeah, and you're just going into what we said there,
- 35:47Speaker 1: like we've seen last year TV one until free their
- 35:50Speaker 1: sports off for abhapen contract wise. So that's see what
- 35:53Speaker 1: happens with Bosa under Mike Tomlin, under which told the
- 35:58Speaker 1: whoa in the home owners make of that as you will,
- 36:02Speaker 1: and ninety two and four under Kyle Shanan. We need
- 36:06Speaker 1: to see an offense performance, but it's weak one. If
- 36:10Speaker 1: the Steers can go out and get a win, a
- 36:12Speaker 1: win is a win, let's see how we get on
- 36:13Speaker 1: and it could be that thing as well, where you know,
- 36:15Speaker 1: the game is not played on paper. On paper, we
- 36:17Speaker 1: expect points points points here, and Jerry spot up. It's
- 36:20Speaker 1: gonna be very very difficult to contine every player on
- 36:23Speaker 1: this ninety of offense. So it's trying to do the
- 36:25Speaker 1: best you can in that sense. But it's time of
- 36:27Speaker 1: the offense as all points on the board the single.
- 36:31Speaker 5: Yeah, no, I completely agree, and you know it's it's
- 36:34Speaker 5: week one, Michael, but I think it's probably the perfect
- 36:38Speaker 5: time to get the forty nine ers. You know, it's
- 36:40Speaker 5: Jimmy mentioned a bit Nick posted a contract situation as
- 36:43Speaker 5: of the time of work coordinates. We're not actually sure
- 36:45Speaker 5: if he's got a play or not. I'm actually sharing
- 36:47Speaker 5: that is the leaning towards unlikely. And if he does,
- 36:51Speaker 5: he probably won't even play half the snaps. So albeit
- 36:54Speaker 5: they have a great defense, but if you're missing the
- 36:57Speaker 5: defensive player of the year, he's obviously an intagril part
- 37:00Speaker 5: of how they sat up defensively, and as a result
- 37:03Speaker 5: of that, I be expecting us to be able to,
- 37:05Speaker 5: you know, if you look at the other pieces on
- 37:07Speaker 5: their D line, you know, be able to neutralize the
- 37:09Speaker 5: lacs of Javon Hargreave of course a former stator himself,
- 37:12Speaker 5: and Arc Armstead and a lot better if that is
- 37:16Speaker 5: the case. So should should that happen at open maybe
- 37:19Speaker 5: a few holes in the passing game four Kenny, And
- 37:21Speaker 5: remember earlier on in the era and we spoke Tom
- 37:23Speaker 5: out Williamson. He imagined that Kenny struggled particularly in his
- 37:26Speaker 5: and his Midge rain throwing, like connecting with guys over
- 37:28Speaker 5: the middle. So that's hopefully going to open some of
- 37:31Speaker 5: them some opportunities as well as that. You know, we're
- 37:34Speaker 5: talking about the foreign nine Ers, the quarterback controversy of
- 37:39Speaker 5: the summer, even though it's been sort of you know,
- 37:41Speaker 5: suppose you could say it's been resolved with portray Lance
- 37:43Speaker 5: being traded the Dallas and we're not even sure how
- 37:46Speaker 5: great bron Perty is. Like there's still a massive question
- 37:49Speaker 5: mark asking whether he is is tall. That is the
- 37:51Speaker 5: American media think he seems to think he is me personally,
- 37:54Speaker 5: I'm taking Kenny over him every day of the way.
- 37:57Speaker 5: He's vastly on Sundays and and even if you look
- 38:00Speaker 5: at our defense as well, the niners O line as well,
- 38:03Speaker 5: it's in for one hell of a day. Granted they've
- 38:06Speaker 5: great some some great old line. Then you know, if
- 38:08Speaker 5: you talk about Trad Williamson or sorry Trad Williams and
- 38:12Speaker 5: potential Hall of Famer, and he's going to need all
- 38:15Speaker 5: the help HEAs can get because although you know he's
- 38:18Speaker 5: going to be you know, try to block off Alex
- 38:19Speaker 5: Highsmith from one side of the line, Tjat's going to
- 38:21Speaker 5: be at the other side with all the help over there.
- 38:24Speaker 5: So honestly, if we can win most of the matchups.
- 38:27Speaker 5: You know, if you're looking at some of the matchups
- 38:29Speaker 5: Kettle against Menca, Debo against Peterson, you know, if we,
- 38:32Speaker 5: if we can, you know, sort of stop McCaffrey to
- 38:34Speaker 5: as much as what possibly can coming out of the backfield.
- 38:36Speaker 5: I just find it very hard to see how we
- 38:38Speaker 5: can't be competitive in the game, and even though the
- 38:40Speaker 5: bookies have us as underdogs, even though like like I
- 38:43Speaker 5: said last week, we prefer being under like b we
- 38:45Speaker 5: befoer being written off. But I think it's a crazy start.
- 38:48Speaker 5: You know, as you say about Mike Tomlin being an
- 38:50Speaker 5: underdog at home, I think he's like four. I think
- 38:52Speaker 5: I'm saying fifteen four and three, and which means we're
- 38:55Speaker 5: an automatic clock to even cover the spread, never mind
- 38:57Speaker 5: winning the game. So in spite of all the underdog
- 38:59Speaker 5: talk past, expectations are certainly high coming in the Sunday.
- 39:02Speaker 5: So I'll let Morant that leave Moran a thought.
- 39:05Speaker 1: I feel like DD just that online gives you a
- 39:08Speaker 1: pick because again immediately a second, you got your you're
- 39:11Speaker 1: you're packing Pittsburgh.
- 39:12Speaker 2: Yeah, oh of.
- 39:13Speaker 5: Course, yeah that I'm very confident, very very confident. I
- 39:17Speaker 5: just as I said, just with all the stuff that
- 39:19Speaker 5: I have outlined. I just don't see how we we
- 39:22Speaker 5: can't be at least competitive, and obviously with the next
- 39:24Speaker 5: Boster situation, I just think there's going to be too
- 39:27Speaker 5: much for for the foreign nine Ers offensive line to hoddle.
- 39:29Speaker 2: So I think we should win.
- 39:31Speaker 5: Well, hopefully we're we're maybe looking at Potaska, you know,
- 39:34Speaker 5: a high scoring game. I'll protect maybe thirty twenty six Pittsburgh.
- 39:38Speaker 5: That's my prediction.
- 39:40Speaker 1: Interesting, I like, if thirty twenty six, I think Jimmy
- 39:44Speaker 1: for me to score, that will be pretty similar. And
- 39:46Speaker 1: I think you're looking to be thirty four to twenty
- 39:48Speaker 1: seven Pittsburgh. Here's my kive lot. At the end of
- 39:52Speaker 1: this Steeters two minutes to go carry Peckett. The all
- 39:58Speaker 1: did jobs and he hadn't so unstart Yell. The Dolaton
- 40:03Speaker 1: gets a touch stime after all of last year, Hope
- 40:05Speaker 1: has bananas and the Steelers go holding believe it.
- 40:09Speaker 4: I certainly hope that he those are in a touchdown
- 40:13Speaker 4: Micha and he has proven himself to be a valuable receiver.
- 40:16Speaker 4: He had a big preseason and I think he proved
- 40:19Speaker 4: in the series that he still belongs in the offense.
- 40:22Speaker 4: And I'm definitely gone with the Steelers win because I
- 40:26Speaker 4: shouldn't be here if I wasn't going to predict the
- 40:28Speaker 4: Steeters when and completely buased, gonna go for a slightly
- 40:31Speaker 4: lower score line, and I'm going to go twenty four
- 40:33Speaker 4: to seventeen Steelers. And I think Boswell is definitely gonna
- 40:37Speaker 4: be a key factor of this game in terms of
- 40:40Speaker 4: in terms of field goals and feel position in kickoffs,
- 40:43Speaker 4: and you know, let's just go rut there and.
- 40:48Speaker 2: That a play.
- 40:48Speaker 4: You know, we've we've done all the talking, they've done,
- 40:51Speaker 4: all the talking they've they've done the preseason. It's it's
- 40:54Speaker 4: time to go out and play for keeps now so
- 40:56Speaker 4: and Inger's crossed they could have a big performance and someday.
- 41:01Speaker 1: Absolutely boys and buzn't for it. And I know everyone
- 41:04Speaker 1: in Ireland, all the stadios nations, both in Ireland and
- 41:08Speaker 1: away beyond that is very, very excited to this game.
- 41:10Speaker 1: We'll be back looking around youth and Choothy after and
- 41:13Speaker 1: even time just have our reaction to the game and
- 41:16Speaker 1: our analysis and their thoughts and what.
