Latest / Coaches Corner / Luke Murray - Postgame UNH
Transcript
- 0:00Yukon Wednesday eighty four. Sixty four goes to seven and zero on the season.
- 0:03Mike Chrispino joined by Luke Murray. You kon, assistant coach Luke,
- 0:08this is a kind of an up and down wild game. You knew they
- 0:10were going to shoot threes, run fast breaks, and push the base,
- 0:14and they did all that. But you had pretty much every answer you needed.
- 0:18Yeah, you know, kind of disappointed, honestly, Like you mentioned,
- 0:21it was an up and down game, had a lot of different twists
- 0:23and turns to it. I thought, for a little while we were playing
- 0:25really good basketball in the first half until Baker got really hot from three.
- 0:29We lost him a handful of times. We knew coming in that he was
- 0:32a big time shooter, and we had kind of gone back and forth on
- 0:35putting a guard on him versus putting one of our centers on him. We
- 0:38decided to go with the center. I thought Donovan did a pretty good job.
- 0:41Samson lost him a couple of times, so we ended up making that
- 0:43switch in the second half. But like you mentioned, a lot of sloppy
- 0:46plays, some turnovers late, and a ton of missed wide open shots.
- 0:49Yeah, Jackson, Baker was who coach Murray's talking about thirty one minutes.
- 0:53He made six of ten from three, six of twelve overall, made five
- 0:57on a roll at one point. That can get a team excited and then
- 1:00get you guys a little deflated too, right when someone starts filling it up
- 1:03from out there. Yeah. Absolutely, I thought we were playing pretty good
- 1:06ball. I mean, I think there was about an eight minute stretch where
- 1:07we'd given up maybe three points, and then Jackson got really hot from three.
- 1:11Like you mentioned, we lost him a number of times in a row,
- 1:14which is wildly disappointing, and then Daniel's got an open one in transition
- 1:18as well. Robinson got to the rim a couple times. But then I
- 1:21thought we kind of settled in. We got up close to thirty at about
- 1:23the midway point of the second half, and then, you know, really
- 1:26disappointed in the way that we finished. Yeah, this isn't like you know,
- 1:29the football thing with the CFB and how you have to win the games
- 1:33with window dressing and how much you're beating a team by I don't think and
- 1:37I see what you're saying, there are there are a lot of things that
- 1:38could be better about what happened. Tonight, But you had to like what
- 1:42Donovan Klinton did, right, you got the ball down to him, made
- 1:44ten straight field goals, as he should against a team that has really lacks
- 1:48the kind of height that he has. Yeah, I mean definitely. I
- 1:51mean, for me, he was one of the few bright spots tonight.
- 1:53I thought, you know, we knew that going into the game, Baker
- 1:56is probably six six or six seven, you know, maybe two hundred and
- 1:59fifteen pounds, and we knew we had a major advantage inside. And I'm
- 2:01sure they probably looked at it as Baker's advantage on the perimeter, but we
- 2:05really wanted to establish Donovan inside. I thought he did a really terrific job
- 2:07of getting deep position and finishing. And Tristan Newton Cam Spencer again, they
- 2:12do a little bit of everything. Didn't shoot it great. Maybe Spencer was
- 2:15six for thirteen. They both had seventeen points. You get seven assists,
- 2:19ten rebounds from Newton and with Spencer you get a little bit of everything.
- 2:23Every game, three assists, four steals, seventeen points. Yeah, I
- 2:27mean, Cam's a really good player. You know. I think we probably
- 2:30all wish he made a couple of those shots that he had late a couple
- 2:31of good looks at it from three, but I thought he did a good
- 2:35job for the most part of settling this down. Tristan, you know,
- 2:38a little bit up and down, but I thought, you know, continued
- 2:39to continue to play. You know, seventeen points, seven assists, ten
- 2:43rebounds, got to the line, got nine free throw attempt so, you
- 2:46know, not a particularly clean game for us from a shooting perspective, you
- 2:50know, with Ak going over six and Tristan going over five and solo one
- 2:53for six, so we obviously got to shoot the ball a heck a lot
- 2:55better because I thought we got a ton of clean looks and it could have
- 2:58been a much better night for us. Yeah, final note on Newton's seven
- 3:00assists no turnovers. I mean, you'd love to see it. You're a
- 3:04guard, aren't you. Absolutely. I never loved that right here. I
- 3:07never had seven and none, but that was pretty good. That was big
- 3:10time from him. And you know, again, we tried to We wanted
- 3:13to come into the game with a game goal of single digit turnovers. Unfortunately
- 3:16ended up at twelve. But Tristan definitely did his part. All right,
- 3:20coach, We appreciate it. It's on to Kansas. Now the fun really
- 3:23begins. Let's go
