- 0:08Speaker 1: But I invited you here. I thought I made myself
- 0:14Speaker 1: perfectly clear. When you're a guest to my home, you
- 0:21Speaker 1: gotta come to me empty. And I said, no, guests,
- 0:27Speaker 1: Your presences presents enough.
- 0:31Speaker 2: I already had too much stuff, So how do you
- 0:36Speaker 2: dare to surbey me?
- 0:49Speaker 3: Welcome to I said, no gifts. Temperature wineger. We're in
- 0:54Speaker 3: the backyards. This is a rare occasion. We're out here.
- 0:58Speaker 3: The sun is slowly raising the temperature. I'm going to
- 1:02Speaker 3: be uncomfortable. Ah, what's going on? I have three buckets
- 1:07Speaker 3: of gravel to move in the driveway, which is you know.
- 1:10Speaker 3: I'm saving that for myself, a little special something for later.
- 1:14Speaker 3: It's nice to have something to live for. And I
- 1:17Speaker 3: have weekend plans. So that's my weekend plan, is moving
- 1:20Speaker 3: three buckets of gravel. Or maybe I won't. Maybe I'll
- 1:24Speaker 3: let us sit there for three more weeks and then
- 1:25Speaker 3: I'll get wet from the rain, and then I'll have
- 1:27Speaker 3: to wait again. This is the this is my life,
- 1:31Speaker 3: this is what we're doing. I'm living at one hundred
- 1:33Speaker 3: miles per hour. The birds are loud. I don't think
- 1:37Speaker 3: there's any business we have to talk about, which is incredible.
- 1:40Speaker 3: We should just get into the podcast. I love today's guest.
- 1:43Speaker 3: It's Rachel Kayley. Rachel, welcome to I said no gifts,
- 1:47Speaker 3: thanks so much. How are you feeling about the temperature
- 1:50Speaker 3: so far?
- 1:51Speaker 4: Well, there was just a breeze that was quite nice,
- 1:54Speaker 4: but I'm definitely not looking forward to it.
- 2:00Speaker 3: This is actually not too uh. It's a nice little
- 2:03Speaker 3: refresher every few minutes.
- 2:04Speaker 4: It's completely lovely when it happens. When it's not happening,
- 2:07Speaker 4: it's not amazing.
- 2:09Speaker 3: You're kind of just begging for it to come back. Yeah,
- 2:12Speaker 3: what have you been doing this week?
- 2:15Speaker 4: Oh my god? Well, the truth is I'm spending a
- 2:20Speaker 4: lot of time on my phone, which I'm sure. Yeah, Unfortunately,
- 2:24Speaker 4: I'm allowing myself to Oh and I'm not meaning to
- 2:27Speaker 4: plug right up top. Okay, but I am in season
- 2:31Speaker 4: two of Jury Duty.
- 2:33Speaker 3: But that's why you have to get on there and
- 2:36Speaker 3: you have to post clips. You've got to post things.
- 2:39Speaker 3: You've got a career.
- 2:40Speaker 4: Oh, I'm letting myself look and refresh, look and refresh
- 2:43Speaker 4: all hours, hours hours.
- 2:45Speaker 3: Are you looking for the likes likes follows?
- 2:49Speaker 4: Is it from a verified account? Is someone dming me
- 2:52Speaker 4: to tell me something amazing? Do they have something mean
- 2:54Speaker 4: to say? Looking at comments at times?
- 2:57Speaker 3: Have there been any mean things?
- 2:58Speaker 4: Definitely?
- 3:00Speaker 3: Do you interact with mean people?
- 3:02Speaker 4: You know, I don't mind it, like I would like to,
- 3:05Speaker 4: But the issue is I don't know if they will
- 3:08Speaker 4: then come for me. Like I'm like, it's a little
- 3:11Speaker 4: like when you're yelling at someone from a car and
- 3:13Speaker 4: you're like, do they have a gun?
- 3:14Speaker 3: Right? Right?
- 3:15Speaker 4: That's how I feel about interacting with mean comments.
- 3:18Speaker 3: Right. If it was like an even back and forth
- 3:20Speaker 3: of meanness, that would be fine. Yeah, Like, yeah, that's
- 3:22Speaker 3: what I worry about sometimes too. If I go back
- 3:25Speaker 3: at them, then God knows what they have planned.
- 3:27Speaker 4: I mean, they're just waiting for the dam to burst.
- 3:30Speaker 3: Right, and they have full access to attack. Yeah, and
- 3:33Speaker 3: I can only kind of just comment.
- 3:34Speaker 4: Back, right, Have you had a mean really mean?
- 3:36Speaker 3: Oh? I get lots of mean things, but I never interact.
- 3:40Speaker 3: I mean, I kind of the feeling of power for
- 3:42Speaker 3: me is to make that person just feel unbelievably alone
- 3:46Speaker 3: in the world by not getting any response.
- 3:48Speaker 2: Right.
- 3:49Speaker 4: I just want to talk to them all face to face.
- 3:51Speaker 3: That would be nice because I think.
- 3:53Speaker 4: You know, it's the anonymity that is an issue, but
- 3:56Speaker 4: also no worries.
- 4:00Speaker 3: The other thing that I think contributes to some of
- 4:03Speaker 3: this is some people. I think some people know they're
- 4:05Speaker 3: being made. Some people are absolutely horrible. Yeah, some people
- 4:08Speaker 3: just do not know how to process their thoughts through writing, right,
- 4:14Speaker 3: And so I think that they're just like this seems
- 4:16Speaker 3: like a fine thing to say to another person, because
- 4:18Speaker 3: they don't really know how to modulate. They're new to
- 4:22Speaker 3: journaling truly, because most people are bad at writing. Ye,
- 4:27Speaker 3: bad at just I mean like typing, you know, like
- 4:31Speaker 3: like that. Yeah, they're bad at that. Like they barely
- 4:34Speaker 3: made it through high school. And so then they get
- 4:36Speaker 3: online and they have access to be able to write things,
- 4:38Speaker 3: but they never really figured it.
- 4:40Speaker 4: Out, right, I mean absolutely, the democratization of it all.
- 4:45Speaker 4: Who's to say if it's for good.
- 4:46Speaker 3: I think it's ultimately for the adis of their worst.
- 4:50Speaker 4: Yeah, we're just gonna have to see, I think.
- 4:52Speaker 3: I think, well, I think we're going to see probably
- 4:54Speaker 3: sooner than later. I know. I think it's like we're
- 4:57Speaker 3: finally coming to a head a little bit with some
- 5:00Speaker 3: thing is gonna break, Yeah, but I don't know what's next.
- 5:04Speaker 4: It's like when you're in a video game and the
- 5:06Speaker 4: thing breaks and you have to jump to the next thing.
- 5:09Speaker 4: I wonder what the next thing is.
- 5:11Speaker 3: Right, Like the little thing is like in the lava
- 5:13Speaker 3: and that you jump on it, and it's like you've
- 5:15Speaker 3: got three seconds and you have to get to the
- 5:16Speaker 3: next thing exactly. I think God knows how long that'll
- 5:19Speaker 3: last or might be a really long platform walk.
- 5:21Speaker 4: I mean, who's to say. That's what it's feeling like
- 5:24Speaker 4: more and more every day.
- 5:26Speaker 3: Right, So you're online, you're looking for the likes, You're
- 5:29Speaker 3: looking for the verified users. We all know verified users
- 5:31Speaker 3: now are almost meaningless nothing.
- 5:33Speaker 4: I'm looking these guys have four hundred ninety seven followers.
- 5:37Speaker 4: I'm gonna kill myself. That's horrible.
- 5:42Speaker 3: At four hundred followers, Why do you decide I now
- 5:45Speaker 3: need to be verified?
- 5:47Speaker 4: Well, I am looking at them because the digress is
- 5:49Speaker 4: just like here, so it's bringing eyes. But it is like,
- 5:52Speaker 4: I don't understand. I don't know the point myself.
- 5:56Speaker 3: Because it brings eyes. But then the person looking at
- 5:58Speaker 3: you is now just annoyed with you and thinks even
- 6:00Speaker 3: less of you as a person. Right, It's never like, Wow,
- 6:03Speaker 3: look at these horrible photos they took of their family.
- 6:06Speaker 3: I've got to get on board with this.
- 6:07Speaker 4: Yeah, it's just like I don't understand, but I am.
- 6:10Speaker 4: I'm doing a deep dive. A lot of them have businesses,
- 6:13Speaker 4: they're trying.
- 6:14Speaker 3: To start right right, but again it's just like difficult.
- 6:19Speaker 3: Just make a decent business, take some decent photos and
- 6:22Speaker 3: game the system that way. Imagine do they hand out
- 6:26Speaker 3: verification at this point or is it all purchased?
- 6:29Speaker 4: No, you can. Not to brag, but I got it.
- 6:32Speaker 4: But I applied. I was like, this is like I
- 6:35Speaker 4: had been applying for years. I had a similar thing
- 6:38Speaker 4: with Rayah, the dating app, where I did it way
- 6:41Speaker 4: too early. I applied to Rya in twenty sixteen college.
- 6:46Speaker 3: Those were like that's when they may have had celebrities
- 6:48Speaker 3: on there.
- 6:49Speaker 4: Well exactly, And I just was like, well, I'm doing
- 6:52Speaker 4: comedy in New York, so let me give it a shot.
- 6:56Speaker 4: And now I can't get on it.
- 6:58Speaker 3: Why can't you get it?
- 6:59Speaker 4: Because I tried to early and they won't let me
- 7:01Speaker 4: like update, even though I add referrals of like, you know, right,
- 7:06Speaker 4: real people, they're not. They're like, oh, she's too desperate.
- 7:10Speaker 3: It's like a one time thing.
- 7:11Speaker 4: Well it's not supposed to be. I don't understand what
- 7:14Speaker 4: the issue is. But I did have that thing with
- 7:16Speaker 4: Instagram too, where I kept because they asked for like news.
- 7:19Speaker 3: Articles about it. Right, It's very odd, and I kept.
- 7:21Speaker 4: Putting in the same ones because there were no new
- 7:23Speaker 4: ones coming up for many years and they were just
- 7:26Speaker 4: like stop. But they finally gave it.
- 7:28Speaker 3: But those were news articles. What was the problem with
- 7:31Speaker 3: those ones?
- 7:32Speaker 4: Well, they were written about me when I was like
- 7:34Speaker 4: quite young.
- 7:35Speaker 3: Oh so they would have verified you as a child. Yeah, yeah,
- 7:39Speaker 3: or now an Instagram teen right, exactly. I would love
- 7:43Speaker 3: to have an Instagram teen account. It sounds like so
- 7:45Speaker 3: much fun.
- 7:45Speaker 4: I need, like I need guardrails.
- 7:49Speaker 3: I think everyone does. Yeah, I think that I've said
- 7:51Speaker 3: this before. I feel like there should be some sort
- 7:53Speaker 3: of test and then maybe you like get certain powers
- 7:56Speaker 3: for sure, and like certain abilities.
- 7:58Speaker 4: To use like posting or even like.
- 8:00Speaker 3: Posting, commenting, liking, sharing, because earn it. Yeah, you have
- 8:06Speaker 3: to earn it. Not everybody knows how to do it. No,
- 8:09Speaker 3: not everyone should be trusted with that response.
- 8:11Speaker 4: But I feel grateful for the people who don't know
- 8:13Speaker 4: how to do it and still do it, you know
- 8:16Speaker 4: what I mean.
- 8:17Speaker 3: They're more fun to watch.
- 8:18Speaker 4: Yes, Like that's what all my reels are I guess
- 8:21Speaker 4: it's like people turning on the camera forgetting I see
- 8:25Speaker 4: you know, yeah, it doesn't matter.
- 8:28Speaker 3: The reels that I enjoy most are probably people who
- 8:30Speaker 3: would not pass the test, right exactly, Then what am
- 8:33Speaker 3: I looking at? My competent friends? Yes, and that's anything
- 8:36Speaker 3: to do with it.
- 8:37Speaker 4: No one watches any.
- 8:38Speaker 3: Of this, No, absolutely no. They will want to see someone,
- 8:42Speaker 3: you know, kind of losing their mind in the mid
- 8:44Speaker 3: West exactly. Yeah, that's I'm sorry to hear. Are you
- 8:49Speaker 3: going to get back off once the promotion cycle's over.
- 8:52Speaker 4: I'm not sure what's going to happen to me. I
- 8:56Speaker 4: don't know what to say. I don't know. I really
- 8:59Speaker 4: don't know. I've been thinking about this.
- 9:01Speaker 3: What were you doing prior to I was trying.
- 9:03Speaker 4: To curb my usage. I had like deleted TikTok, Twitter's gone,
- 9:08Speaker 4: But now it's all back right and I'm on it
- 9:12Speaker 4: and I feel crazy. And then I saw this study
- 9:16Speaker 4: that just came out that shows like even two weeks
- 9:18Speaker 4: off your phone like makes your brain like ten times healthier.
- 9:22Speaker 3: Do we believe it?
- 9:23Speaker 4: I'm believing it. They had him like hooked up to
- 9:26Speaker 4: all this stuff they were testing, like his reaction time
- 9:29Speaker 4: right went up twenty three percent. Oh my god after
- 9:32Speaker 4: two weeks, and I'm like, well, I think I need that.
- 9:36Speaker 3: Right, that could become like a pro baseball player. Yeah, exactly,
- 9:40Speaker 3: Maybe I'll consider it. It's the thing where you're like,
- 9:43Speaker 3: but what if something? If I miss something, and you will,
- 9:47Speaker 3: You'll miss the best days of your life on Instagram.
- 9:50Speaker 4: Yeah, it's tough, but I'm trying to get back out
- 9:53Speaker 4: into the world.
- 9:55Speaker 3: What do you do to get back out into the world.
- 9:58Speaker 4: This is my issue. I used to have hobbies like
- 10:02Speaker 4: what I did Pottery Okay, that's a real I did
- 10:04Speaker 4: painting Okay, oh wow, mo sayn I was that good
- 10:07Speaker 4: at it. But it took up a lot of my time.
- 10:09Speaker 3: Right, I would walk, Okay, that's ours. It's not I'm
- 10:13Speaker 3: not going to qualify, but it took up a lot
- 10:16Speaker 3: of my time.
- 10:21Speaker 4: Those were kind of it.
- 10:22Speaker 3: Those are I mean, you named two solid hobbies. That's
- 10:24Speaker 3: more than I have. Really, you have no hobbies, not currently, No,
- 10:27Speaker 3: nobody have soil or gravel. I've got oh I forgot
- 10:30Speaker 3: I carry buckets. Yeah, but Instagram takes up all my time.
- 10:35Speaker 3: Otherwise I would be constantly.
- 10:36Speaker 4: Carrying is the gravel for like gardening, Like, what's the deal.
- 10:40Speaker 3: It's the backyard. Our dog destroyed our lawn. You have
- 10:44Speaker 3: a dog and she's the best, but she has you know,
- 10:48Speaker 3: she's like a raptor, and so she destroyed the entire
- 10:50Speaker 3: lawn by when we were playing fetch so and we
- 10:53Speaker 3: needed to get rid of the lawn anyway, Los Angeles.
- 10:57Speaker 3: So now it's like pebbles. But the landscapers left me
- 11:01Speaker 3: extra pebbles and they said, do you want us to
- 11:04Speaker 3: put these somewhere? And I don't know what was going
- 11:06Speaker 3: through my mind when I said, oh, don't worry because
- 11:09Speaker 3: they're each like eighty pounds.
- 11:11Speaker 4: That's crazy.
- 11:12Speaker 3: So now they're just sitting there and just kind of
- 11:14Speaker 3: making me feel bad all the time.
- 11:16Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, you could sell those on Facebook, Marketplace easy.
- 11:20Speaker 3: Probably can't get it today. But then when I need
- 11:24Speaker 3: the pebbles, what do I do?
- 11:26Speaker 4: Well, then I don't know how to help you.
- 11:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:27Speaker 3: I don't want to face a life where I don't
- 11:29Speaker 3: have extra pebbles lying around.
- 11:31Speaker 4: Now, did you choose all these plants?
- 11:36Speaker 2: No?
- 11:36Speaker 3: These when I bought the house. This is how it was.
- 11:39Speaker 4: I have to say, you're telling me stuff that is
- 11:41Speaker 4: amazing to hear and you'll see why later.
- 11:45Speaker 3: Oh incredible. Okay, so this kind of happens on this
- 11:48Speaker 3: podcast sometimes. Really, there's something, there's something, you know. I
- 11:51Speaker 3: think we've talked simulation to death, but there's something about
- 11:54Speaker 3: this podcast. It feels like someone's pushing buttons. Oh yeah,
- 11:57Speaker 3: gouting things in line. I mean, the things this podcast
- 12:01Speaker 3: is predicted.
- 12:02Speaker 4: I really like what. Oh my god, I'm sure the pandemic. Yeah,
- 12:09Speaker 4: I believe that it's like the Simpsons.
- 12:10Speaker 3: Yeah, it's very much like the Simpsons.
- 12:12Speaker 4: I've never seen You've.
- 12:14Speaker 3: Never seen the Simpsons. No, wow, you've seen clips.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Well.
- 12:18Speaker 4: When I was a kid and my we always watched Seinfeld,
- 12:22Speaker 4: but the Simpsons came on after Seinfeld, so I would
- 12:25Speaker 4: see like the first two minutes and then get scared
- 12:27Speaker 4: and turn it off.
- 12:28Speaker 3: You get scared.
- 12:29Speaker 4: I find animation very scary, and I've mostly worked in animation,
- 12:34Speaker 4: and I find it completely terrifying.
- 12:37Speaker 3: What's so frightening about it?
- 12:38Speaker 2: For you?
- 12:39Speaker 4: The issue is that, to me, animation is like mainlining
- 12:44Speaker 4: someone else's brain, because it's like the only time you
- 12:48Speaker 4: can see exactly what someone sees in their brain.
- 12:51Speaker 3: Wow, oh my god.
- 12:53Speaker 4: That to me is like looking at the stars.
- 12:57Speaker 3: Really fascinating thing. Yeah, I've never thought of, but I mean,
- 13:00Speaker 3: I guess that's art. Do you just freak out?
- 13:04Speaker 4: I think because I think as animation moves.
- 13:08Speaker 3: Right, it's things move in someone's mind.
- 13:13Speaker 4: I really don't like it.
- 13:15Speaker 3: Is there any animation, like what's your favorite animated thing?
- 13:20Speaker 4: There was a period of time in college where I
- 13:23Speaker 4: was like just so mentally ill that I couldn't watch
- 13:27Speaker 4: shows that had anything I could relate to. Okay, so
- 13:31Speaker 4: like any any relationship stuff, or like money or like
- 13:35Speaker 4: sad family stuff. So I watched kids shows, right, and
- 13:39Speaker 4: I got really into the Backyard against.
- 13:41Speaker 3: Oh I'm not familiar.
- 13:42Speaker 4: Well why would you be. It's a show for kids
- 13:46Speaker 4: created not so long ago. But it's gorgeous and they're
- 13:50Speaker 4: singing and they're so happy, and it's animals that are
- 13:55Speaker 4: living I think in New York City. They play in
- 13:58Speaker 4: the backyard.
- 13:59Speaker 3: They rare backyard art rich New York City.
- 14:04Speaker 4: They all live in different houses.
- 14:07Speaker 3: They Now the concept of the show is kind of
- 14:09Speaker 3: falling apart for him.
- 14:10Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know, it was a while ago.
- 14:13Speaker 3: Like other animals, they're not elevant creatures.
- 14:15Speaker 4: No, No, they're it's like cow cute.
- 14:18Speaker 3: Yeah, very cute.
- 14:20Speaker 4: Rhyo, maybe, Oh they're so cute.
- 14:22Speaker 3: And that was the end of animation for you.
- 14:24Speaker 4: Yeah, that's pretty much. I definitely watched it as a kid,
- 14:27Speaker 4: but like it did it always carry That's.
- 14:30Speaker 3: Such a good point. That's really fascinating. Yeah, that's something
- 14:34Speaker 3: I think you learn like really early on of like
- 14:38Speaker 3: this thing, I'm looking at me like it may not
- 14:40Speaker 3: look the same to me as somebody else. Yes, and
- 14:42Speaker 3: now you've really brought this into a whole full circle thing. Yeah, wow, magical.
- 14:48Speaker 4: I know.
- 14:48Speaker 3: It's it's interesting power of animation, the power of art.
- 14:51Speaker 4: Yeah, I find it scary.
- 14:55Speaker 3: Okay, so you've but you have given up on painting yourself.
- 14:58Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm trying to get back in to it a bit.
- 15:00Speaker 4: I'm trying to get back into anything that like is
- 15:04Speaker 4: not something I can monetize basically, right, But then I
- 15:08Speaker 4: have sold my artwork before. Oh well, it was like
- 15:12Speaker 4: a desperate thing during COVID when I had no work
- 15:16Speaker 4: and people were being quite generous.
- 15:18Speaker 3: What sort of art is in.
- 15:19Speaker 4: The pottery is pretty poorly made, kind of like weird shapes, right,
- 15:25Speaker 4: like you know, three legged planters. When that was like
- 15:29Speaker 4: fun in twenty nineteen and then the paintings. It started
- 15:34Speaker 4: because I would go to paint and sip, okay, sure,
- 15:37Speaker 4: and then I would start getting crazy. I would add silly.
- 15:40Speaker 3: Stuff upon sipping. Is that no sipping.
- 15:44Speaker 4: I'm not going there to sip. I'm going there to paint.
- 15:47Speaker 4: I'm one of the only sober people there usually like
- 15:49Speaker 4: a bachelorette party. And then me sober painting nine to
- 15:53Speaker 4: eleven onto the sunset that we were instructed to make.
- 15:58Speaker 4: So then I just got into painting right right.
- 16:01Speaker 3: Because also pottery was your journey into painting.
- 16:05Speaker 4: No, they ran congruentut okay.
- 16:10Speaker 3: And was there any of that before, like in high
- 16:11Speaker 3: school or anything?
- 16:13Speaker 4: I had always well, I also embroider.
- 16:16Speaker 3: I like crafts okay. Yeah.
- 16:17Speaker 4: I got a little into furniture building.
- 16:19Speaker 3: During cool You're very handy.
- 16:21Speaker 4: I like to be handy.
- 16:23Speaker 3: I was.
- 16:23Speaker 4: There was a moment also not to keep talking about
- 16:26Speaker 4: COVID so interesting.
- 16:28Speaker 3: I think people are craving it.
- 16:29Speaker 4: Okay, great, just to bring it back. I got into
- 16:33Speaker 4: a woodworking school, okay. And I would have gone and
- 16:37Speaker 4: lived in Vermont for.
- 16:38Speaker 3: Two years, oh my god.
- 16:39Speaker 4: And it was like it felt like the perfect time
- 16:41Speaker 4: because it was like you know whatever, And then I
- 16:43Speaker 4: ultimately decided not to at the last minute to continue
- 16:46Speaker 4: making videos, but I regret it. But I was really
- 16:50Speaker 4: like I had sort of taught myself everything I could
- 16:52Speaker 4: teach myself wood working wise, and wanted to.
- 16:56Speaker 3: And were you learning like through YouTube? Was that how
- 16:58Speaker 3: you were doing it?
- 16:58Speaker 4: I would I would say, how ye wasn't even YouTube
- 17:03Speaker 4: like it was really dangerous And what were you making?
- 17:06Speaker 4: I made a like a stool that I had tiled.
- 17:10Speaker 4: I tiled stool myself when that was kind of a
- 17:13Speaker 4: big trend. I made a waterfall stool. Oh never quite
- 17:19Speaker 4: supported much weight, but was pretty.
- 17:22Speaker 3: More for a child or something.
- 17:24Speaker 4: I made a couple of tables.
- 17:25Speaker 3: Okay, where were you putting all of this?
- 17:28Speaker 4: I was they were small. But I had a friend
- 17:33Speaker 4: who was a painter, and so I would go to
- 17:35Speaker 4: her studio and it was like just like sort of
- 17:38Speaker 4: a studio for any discipline. So they had a lot
- 17:42Speaker 4: of like different things you could use and store and make,
- 17:46Speaker 4: and so I would use like power tools there, which
- 17:48Speaker 4: I had no like it was I almost cut stuff off.
- 17:53Speaker 3: Oh my god, professionals constantly cut stuff off alone. Somebody
- 17:57Speaker 3: just starting off right, and.
- 17:59Speaker 4: It was like I'd be like, oh yeah, like I
- 18:00Speaker 4: get you know, I'd do it with no mask, no goggles,
- 18:04Speaker 4: and then I'd be.
- 18:05Speaker 3: Like oh right, yeah, and that kind of thing.
- 18:10Speaker 4: I was trying. I tried to do some like stuff
- 18:14Speaker 4: where I wanted to like freeze stuff in resin, which
- 18:19Speaker 4: is extremely dangerous, just the chemicals, like if it's not
- 18:24Speaker 4: ventilated well, and I was like heating it up what
- 18:26Speaker 4: you're not supposed to. I was just trying stuff, right,
- 18:30Speaker 4: So you know, I would like to get back into
- 18:32Speaker 4: the spirit of that.
- 18:34Speaker 3: And how did you apply to the Wood School? Did
- 18:36Speaker 3: you have to show them photos or.
- 18:38Speaker 4: I sent photos of the stuff I had made? And
- 18:41Speaker 4: I have to imagine I wrote an essay.
- 18:45Speaker 3: That would have been such a turn for you.
- 18:47Speaker 4: I know I'm regretting it. I'm regretting it, but it's
- 18:51Speaker 4: also like, I don't know, actually it's just regret. It's
- 18:57Speaker 4: just regret. It would have been so awesome. I think
- 19:00Speaker 4: I'd be so much happier.
- 19:02Speaker 3: Right, you probably, I mean, let's be honest, you would have.
- 19:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:04Speaker 3: I think, no question anyone in comedy if they just
- 19:07Speaker 3: would pick up a skill and just make things, Yeah,
- 19:11Speaker 3: probably feels better.
- 19:13Speaker 4: Yeah, it could be on Instagram. Well, and ultimately woodworkers
- 19:19Speaker 4: are posting their stuff to Instagram at times. Right, it
- 19:22Speaker 4: depends who you are.
- 19:23Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, there's a you know, there's a whole you
- 19:26Speaker 3: can kind of turn anything into a thing that hurts you.
- 19:29Speaker 3: At this point, it just kind of keeps you on
- 19:31Speaker 3: that just it's nice to know you have that option. Sure,
- 19:35Speaker 3: and you get bored of just being satisfied with yourself,
- 19:37Speaker 3: you can kind of open it up to the pub
- 19:40Speaker 3: beg for their approval.
- 19:41Speaker 4: Yeah, it's good.
- 19:43Speaker 3: Well, look, you've already brought it up. I mean, you
- 19:45Speaker 3: hinted at something, and I guess we should just talk
- 19:48Speaker 3: about it. Now. What is it you were going to
- 19:51Speaker 3: you're here on I said, no gifts. I was looking
- 19:53Speaker 3: forward to having you. So I was thrown when you
- 19:58Speaker 3: kind of trotted into the backyard holding this gorgeous chanel bag.
- 20:02Speaker 3: Oh sure, flung over your shoulder. Yes, is this a
- 20:06Speaker 3: gift for me?
- 20:07Speaker 4: Well, it's pretty much is pretty much.
- 20:11Speaker 3: Is Should we open it here on the podcast?
- 20:12Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a little bit of an experience.
- 20:19Speaker 3: Oh, we rarely get an experience gift on this I
- 20:22Speaker 3: think there have been very few. There was indoor skydiving.
- 20:25Speaker 4: Oh no, nothing like that this is contained and barely
- 20:29Speaker 4: an experience.
- 20:30Speaker 3: And I'll also say the indoor skydiving place has closed down.
- 20:33Speaker 4: Oh really, so you don't exact me.
- 20:34Speaker 3: No, I went and then they were probably like, that's
- 20:36Speaker 3: we're done, shut it down.
- 20:38Speaker 4: Wow.
- 20:38Speaker 3: But I think that, Elise, that's probably the one experience
- 20:41Speaker 3: that I've had on this podcast.
- 20:42Speaker 4: Right, Did that make you want to go real skydiving?
- 20:46Speaker 2: No?
- 20:46Speaker 3: Would you?
- 20:47Speaker 4: I want to try indoor. I don't think I would
- 20:49Speaker 4: do real skydiving, but there's a part of me that
- 20:54Speaker 4: could see myself doing it.
- 20:56Speaker 3: Indoor is fine. It was very fun. It was a
- 20:58Speaker 3: good time. But I mean I've said this before, but
- 21:01Speaker 3: doing real skydiving, I really think that like primal animal
- 21:05Speaker 3: instinct in me would become so strong when they're about
- 21:08Speaker 3: to jump out that I would like fight off the
- 21:10Speaker 3: person that's attached to me. Yeah, and then cause my day.
- 21:13Speaker 3: So I just like I can't trust my lizard brain.
- 21:16Speaker 3: What about klonopin, No, I don't even think that. I
- 21:19Speaker 3: think my body, every chemical in my body would overcome that. Okay,
- 21:23Speaker 3: and then I would die and kill someone else?
- 21:25Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, yeah, kill profess I had I was I
- 21:29Speaker 4: went to the Madonna In for the first time. And
- 21:31Speaker 4: I had a couple of weeks ago and I had
- 21:33Speaker 4: a waiter who just kept coming over to ask me
- 21:36Speaker 4: questions about my life. I loved him. And on about
- 21:39Speaker 4: the fourth round he was like, have you ever gone skydiving?
- 21:42Speaker 4: And I said no, and he said he had just
- 21:44Speaker 4: done it and he was going for his sixth run
- 21:47Speaker 4: this week and he wanted to get certified so that
- 21:50Speaker 4: he could take people like me to go skydiving.
- 21:52Speaker 3: So is he using the Madonna In as kind of
- 21:54Speaker 3: a place to get new customers.
- 21:56Speaker 4: It's a little bit like that.
- 21:57Speaker 3: Interesting, but I'm really rooting for good for him.
- 22:01Speaker 4: Yeah, but now it's on my mind.
- 22:03Speaker 3: How was the Madonna In in general? I've only ever driven past,
- 22:05Speaker 3: I'm very familiar.
- 22:06Speaker 4: But it was really fun. It smelled crazy. That makes
- 22:10Speaker 4: totally like the rooms smelled crazy.
- 22:12Speaker 3: Probably not well ventilated, No, certainly not.
- 22:14Speaker 4: And it is truly on the highway right like that's
- 22:17Speaker 4: but the pool was amazing. The like I went to
- 22:21Speaker 4: the bar and they have this drink with whipped cream,
- 22:24Speaker 4: and it was someone's wedding and they let us dance
- 22:26Speaker 4: at the wedding.
- 22:27Speaker 3: Oh fun, it was really fun. Oh that sounds nice.
- 22:30Speaker 3: I need to go there at least once.
- 22:31Speaker 4: You should.
- 22:32Speaker 3: It just never feels like the right time to go
- 22:34Speaker 3: to the Madonna.
- 22:35Speaker 4: And yeah, I don't. I'm I sort of did it
- 22:39Speaker 4: on the way back from Big Sir.
- 22:41Speaker 3: Oh right, it feels like something on the way.
- 22:43Speaker 4: Yeah, I can't imagine it being a destination. And the
- 22:46Speaker 4: guy who the guy who started it is quite interesting,
- 22:50Speaker 4: but I can't remember anything about him.
- 22:52Speaker 3: What was the theme of the room you were in?
- 22:54Speaker 4: Rocks Rock that was the thing? Is like, it was
- 22:58Speaker 4: kind of last minute, so we got a shit, but
- 23:01Speaker 4: it was rocks and it was all car It was
- 23:05Speaker 4: like carpet that has been there for forty years. And
- 23:07Speaker 4: I'm like, people are coming into this growing up. No question,
- 23:12Speaker 4: you can't clean a carpet.
- 23:13Speaker 3: There's certainly blood in there. Yes, there's like every liquid
- 23:17Speaker 3: you could get into that.
- 23:18Speaker 4: Which is I think the fun of the Madonna in
- 23:20Speaker 4: But I don't. I'm watching the comeback right now and
- 23:25Speaker 4: I just had the urge just say her catchphrase. Oh
- 23:28Speaker 4: of course, that is so crazy that that just happened
- 23:31Speaker 4: to me. Really enjoying the show though.
- 23:34Speaker 3: You're watching it for the first time. Yeah, oh my god,
- 23:35Speaker 3: it's so good.
- 23:36Speaker 4: She's unreal.
- 23:37Speaker 3: She's just like she can truly do anything. Yeah, how
- 23:40Speaker 3: far into it are you?
- 23:41Speaker 4: I'm about to finish season one. I had tried watching
- 23:43Speaker 4: it many times before and couldn't get into it, and
- 23:46Speaker 4: everyone's been like, you just need to push through, right,
- 23:49Speaker 4: And now I'm like, thank god.
- 23:51Speaker 3: What were you? Was it making you uncomfortable to watch it?
- 23:54Speaker 4: You know a little bit? And I have a really
- 23:55Speaker 4: high tolerance for that. I'm not sure what it was.
- 23:59Speaker 4: I'm not sure.
- 24:00Speaker 3: Yeah, I feel like that is a lot of people's problem.
- 24:01Speaker 3: I mean, she's just so good at making you be
- 24:04Speaker 3: like this, what are you doing on camera?
- 24:06Speaker 4: Yeah? It is amazing.
- 24:08Speaker 3: Yeah, it's my maybe my favorite ever. Yeah. Okay, well
- 24:12Speaker 3: I avoided this experience long enough.
- 24:14Speaker 4: There's actually a piece I forgot that's unrelated. It's just
- 24:17Speaker 4: if you really don't like what.
- 24:20Speaker 3: I gave but I can't find it. Okay, Well let's
- 24:23Speaker 3: see what this is. I'm pulling it out. It's a pan,
- 24:25Speaker 3: a pilot, G two classic pen and some paper.
- 24:30Speaker 4: When do I get to explain stuff.
- 24:32Speaker 3: Whenever you want? Okay? Wait, you wait hours? You call
- 24:37Speaker 3: me later to explain so about that? Okay, Okay, I'm
- 24:43Speaker 3: opening it and it's a piece of paper that I
- 24:48Speaker 3: just punched a hole in the wall. It's a okay,
- 24:51Speaker 3: there it seems like her two piece of paper.
- 24:53Speaker 4: Well, this is part of the experience.
- 24:54Speaker 3: Okay, okay, So should I do you want to explain?
- 24:57Speaker 4: Or should I why you try?
- 24:58Speaker 3: And then all, okay, I'm gonna I try to explain
- 25:00Speaker 3: what this is. Rachel has drawn a picture. In the middle,
- 25:04Speaker 3: there's a stick figure of me Bridger in the left corner.
- 25:08Speaker 3: There's a dog in the up upper left corner. There's
- 25:11Speaker 3: a flag that says gay guy flag, upper right corner,
- 25:15Speaker 3: there's a house that says sold. And then in the
- 25:18Speaker 3: bottom right could be a bag of groceries or a
- 25:22Speaker 3: garbage can.
- 25:23Speaker 4: Yes, okay, so you know we've only met in Passing
- 25:27Speaker 4: about twice. Yes, we talked briefly a couple.
- 25:30Speaker 3: Of weeks ago. Yes, we were at someone's birthday. Yes,
- 25:35Speaker 3: wonderful Sam.
- 25:36Speaker 4: Wonderful Sam. And you know, I'm thinking, huh, I don't
- 25:40Speaker 4: know so much about this guy. Because I wanted to
- 25:42Speaker 4: make you a painting. Actually oh wow, But I was like,
- 25:45Speaker 4: I don't really know what to paint him, right, So
- 25:48Speaker 4: I said, I'll start with this sketch. So I went
- 25:51Speaker 4: with stuff I thought, or it's true about you, gay
- 25:55Speaker 4: guy or gay guy?
- 25:56Speaker 3: Right, yes, I'm a gay guy.
- 25:59Speaker 4: Yeah, I thought you might have a dog.
- 26:01Speaker 3: Okay, good gift.
- 26:03Speaker 4: So when you said you had a dog, I'm thinking
- 26:04Speaker 4: this is amazing. Then I remember you said you make
- 26:07Speaker 4: some money from the podcast.
- 26:10Speaker 3: So then I'm thinking of loudly going around the room.
- 26:12Speaker 3: You gut believe how much money I'm making all this thing.
- 26:15Speaker 4: Then I'm thinking, I wonder if this guy owns a house.
- 26:21Speaker 4: There's a house you bought. Then you're saying you do
- 26:23Speaker 4: own a house.
- 26:24Speaker 3: I do own a house.
- 26:25Speaker 4: Then I went on Instagram, your instagram, and saw that
- 26:28Speaker 4: you take pictures of trash all the time. Oh, interest,
- 26:31Speaker 4: I thought it could be a fetish something like this.
- 26:34Speaker 4: So then I brought a pen and paper. So as
- 26:37Speaker 4: I learned stuff about you, I can continue to add.
- 26:40Speaker 4: Oh I like this, And if you learn something about me,
- 26:43Speaker 4: you want to draw. At the end, you give me
- 26:45Speaker 4: a gift.
- 26:46Speaker 3: So you're just as we're learning about each other, will
- 26:48Speaker 3: just draw.
- 26:49Speaker 4: Yeah, I haven't learned much about you.
- 26:51Speaker 3: Right, I'm kind of keeping my car. One thing I'm
- 26:57Speaker 3: gonna I'm gonna add one thing already. Let me choose quiftly.
- 27:01Speaker 3: I'm listener. I'm drawing something that's very close to Rachel's heart,
- 27:10Speaker 3: and it's a very good drawing. Okay, you've drawn well.
- 27:15Speaker 4: I added box of a bucket of pebbles because I
- 27:20Speaker 4: think you'll have that for a long time.
- 27:23Speaker 3: I drew a picture of Bart Simpson.
- 27:25Speaker 4: Oh wow, that's a good drawing.
- 27:26Speaker 3: That's an I would say, a perfect drawing.
- 27:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:28Speaker 4: I really like that.
- 27:31Speaker 3: Okay, I'm trying to think of other things I've already
- 27:32Speaker 3: learned about. You've been to Madonna in This is a
- 27:35Speaker 3: I mean, this is an unfortunate test of my memory
- 27:37Speaker 3: and listening. You've watched Backyardigans. That's a good yeah, done.
- 27:44Speaker 3: Pottery painting and woodwork? How do you draw woodwork? That's
- 27:49Speaker 3: the ball I saw? Fantastic I'm gonna draw. This is
- 27:54Speaker 3: also a test of if I know what a socks.
- 27:57Speaker 4: It's a good motor skills test too.
- 27:59Speaker 3: Yeah. Look, yeah, that's great. It's a pretty good.
- 28:01Speaker 4: Similar looks similar to Bart Simpson.
- 28:04Speaker 3: It actually looks almost like I'm going to ask you
- 28:10Speaker 3: about like in regards to do you have a pet? No?
- 28:14Speaker 4: No, I really want a dog, right, I feel ready,
- 28:17Speaker 4: and I think it would change my life.
- 28:19Speaker 3: What sort of dog would you like? A big, small.
- 28:22Speaker 4: If if I had unlimited resources in that I had
- 28:26Speaker 4: a yard house, I think I would want like a
- 28:31Speaker 4: medium to big sized dog, maybe like a black lap Oh, beautiful, gorgeous.
- 28:38Speaker 3: Did you have a dog growing up?
- 28:39Speaker 2: No?
- 28:40Speaker 3: Never, did you have any pets?
- 28:42Speaker 4: We had a bird for under a year?
- 28:45Speaker 3: Did it fly away?
- 28:47Speaker 4: So my mom and I were walking through Washington Square
- 28:50Speaker 4: Park and a parakeet lands on her head. How interesting
- 28:56Speaker 4: she it's injured. So she goes back to her work,
- 29:01Speaker 4: which is close by, and we get a box. We
- 29:04Speaker 4: take the bird to the vet. The vet says like
- 29:07Speaker 4: its wing is broken and it must have just escaped
- 29:09Speaker 4: from someone's apartment. But there's sort of nothing. What do
- 29:12Speaker 4: you do with a.
- 29:13Speaker 3: Bird can and there's nothing you can do about a
- 29:16Speaker 3: broken wing.
- 29:17Speaker 4: I think they fixed the wing, Okay, I don't really know. Anyway,
- 29:21Speaker 4: we took her home. We had her in a cage
- 29:24Speaker 4: we have. We'd have to let her out to fly.
- 29:27Speaker 4: She would ship all over the apartment. She was so loud.
- 29:30Speaker 4: I hated the bird, but we called her Treasure because
- 29:37Speaker 4: she was a treasure around. Treasure but ultimately we just
- 29:42Speaker 4: called her Birdie.
- 29:43Speaker 3: Oh okay, right right.
- 29:46Speaker 4: I had insomnia as a kid, so I would sit
- 29:48Speaker 4: up with the bird a lot and watch Kathy Griffin,
- 29:52Speaker 4: Kathy Griffin, Kathy Griffin, My Life with the D List
- 29:57Speaker 4: or whatever.
- 29:57Speaker 3: Yes, wait, what did you think? Her name was?
- 30:00Speaker 4: Kathy Griffith, Kathy Griffin, Kaffy Griffin, Kathy Griffin. And one
- 30:09Speaker 4: night we're watching it TV together. Well, also, it's like
- 30:13Speaker 4: the bird is stupid, so you put a towel over
- 30:16Speaker 4: its cage to indicate it's sound to go to bed.
- 30:19Speaker 4: So I was put the towel over its cage. But
- 30:22Speaker 4: there was something comforting about having a live thing next
- 30:24Speaker 4: to me. Sure, because I basically, in part had insomnia
- 30:28Speaker 4: because I thought someone needed to be awake in case
- 30:30Speaker 4: someone was trying to break in.
- 30:32Speaker 3: I mean, not the worst idea, yeah.
- 30:34Speaker 4: Sure, but I took it upon myself. Yeah, But so
- 30:39Speaker 4: I like having a bird with me because it felt
- 30:41Speaker 4: like partner in crime. Of course, all to say, we're
- 30:45Speaker 4: watching Kathy Griffin, and all of a sudden, I hear
- 30:48Speaker 4: a huge thought in the cage no, and I don't
- 30:51Speaker 4: bother and I finally fall asleep, and it had passed away.
- 30:57Speaker 4: Kathy griff It was like, laugh, it had had a
- 31:04Speaker 4: heart attack.
- 31:06Speaker 3: It had a heart attack. How do you know that.
- 31:08Speaker 4: Because we took it to the vet.
- 31:10Speaker 3: Okay, this feels like a waste of time.
- 31:12Speaker 4: Yeah, I think my mom was like maybe not actually right,
- 31:18Speaker 4: she told me that it had a heart attack. Oh okay,
- 31:21Speaker 4: and then we went out to my We drove out
- 31:23Speaker 4: to Long Island to my grandma's house to bury it
- 31:25Speaker 4: in the yard.
- 31:26Speaker 3: Well that's nice, and.
- 31:27Speaker 4: I hated the birds so much, but it really made
- 31:29Speaker 4: me sad, right, And it was around the same time
- 31:32Speaker 4: that my great grandpa was dying. Oh, so I think
- 31:35Speaker 4: it made me realize.
- 31:36Speaker 3: That, oh it was kind of your entry into that world. Right.
- 31:40Speaker 4: So it was actually good because it was sort of like, yeah,
- 31:44Speaker 4: I think that is tricycle one of the utilities of
- 31:46Speaker 4: a pet for a kid, right, Yeah, you haven't really
- 31:49Speaker 4: thought about that before, but it's.
- 31:51Speaker 3: Like, look what's coming.
- 31:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:52Speaker 3: Yeah. We had so many hamsters dye really, but I
- 31:55Speaker 3: guess I just have totally numb to the concept.
- 31:58Speaker 4: Wow, would you have one at a time?
- 32:00Speaker 3: Time?
- 32:00Speaker 4: Are many?
- 32:00Speaker 3: We would have like one or two at a time.
- 32:02Speaker 3: And I don't know where did you grow up in Utah, Utah,
- 32:08Speaker 3: outside of Salt Lake City, in a suburb of Salt Lake.
- 32:12Speaker 4: Have you been, Yeah, I've been toys.
- 32:15Speaker 3: What were you doing there? Stand up? One time?
- 32:17Speaker 4: No, I think they would hate me there.
- 32:19Speaker 3: No, I bet they would actually love you.
- 32:21Speaker 4: Interesting. One time I went because I was on a
- 32:27Speaker 4: my like uncle took me and my cousins to Yellowstone, Okay, sure,
- 32:32Speaker 4: and like on the way home, we stopped in the
- 32:35Speaker 4: Salt Lake because he wanted to see the church.
- 32:38Speaker 3: Oh right, fast by it kind of a landmark to see. Yeah.
- 32:42Speaker 4: And then I went this past couple of months ago
- 32:45Speaker 4: because I was at sundown.
- 32:46Speaker 3: Oh that's right, always kind of trying to bring it
- 32:48Speaker 3: back to some sort of problem.
- 32:49Speaker 4: Well you know what am I supposed to do?
- 32:52Speaker 3: I just can't stop working. Nope. So you were just
- 32:55Speaker 3: in Park City this time.
- 32:57Speaker 4: Yeah, but we did spend some time in Salt Lake.
- 32:59Speaker 3: Okay, where did you eat any good restaurants?
- 33:02Speaker 4: I have to say the food was disgusting. People were like,
- 33:07Speaker 4: oh my god, you got to go to this restaurant
- 33:09Speaker 4: and like what restaurant was a sushi place and the
- 33:12Speaker 4: producers were like trying to take us out this nice
- 33:15Speaker 4: meal like we were having good time and it was
- 33:17Speaker 4: really expensive and it was disgusting.
- 33:21Speaker 3: Was the sushi place in Salt Lake? No?
- 33:23Speaker 4: No, sorry, Park City?
- 33:24Speaker 3: Oh so, okay, there is a really good sushi place
- 33:26Speaker 3: in salt Lake.
- 33:27Speaker 4: Really well, I watched Salt Lake Real Housewives.
- 33:30Speaker 3: Oh yeah, of course.
- 33:31Speaker 4: So I'm sure they've gone on the show because the
- 33:33Speaker 4: food they eat looks pretty good.
- 33:35Speaker 3: They go to some interesting places. Yeah, they go to
- 33:38Speaker 3: places that I think are the photographed kind of well, yeah,
- 33:41Speaker 3: they're kind of a scene.
- 33:43Speaker 4: Are you do you know anything about them? I how so,
- 33:47Speaker 4: just gonna draw something quickly.
- 33:50Speaker 3: I will say I've facetimed with Britney Bateman. No, why
- 33:55Speaker 3: a friend is a friend? Are you interested? I'm friend
- 33:59Speaker 3: of a.
- 34:00Speaker 4: Friend of I thought you said a friend is a friend,
- 34:03Speaker 4: so I thought you were a friend.
- 34:04Speaker 3: Rachel and they'll FaceTime. No, a friend is a friend
- 34:11Speaker 3: of hers. I see, And she said, would you FaceTime
- 34:13Speaker 3: my friend? And so did Jared Osmond? No, what was
- 34:18Speaker 3: he like? They were both perfectly nice. Actually, I mean
- 34:21Speaker 3: I can imagine. I mean that's kind of the thing
- 34:23Speaker 3: about housewives is like I think if you met any
- 34:25Speaker 3: of them in person, you'd be like, oh, this is
- 34:27Speaker 3: someone that's kind of playing well.
- 34:28Speaker 4: I met Meredith on the street where.
- 34:31Speaker 3: In New York.
- 34:32Speaker 4: Yeah, I was, it was great. I was having I
- 34:37Speaker 4: had done something a heinous that day. Okay, I had
- 34:40Speaker 4: tried to steal a eight hundred dollars pair of pants
- 34:42Speaker 4: from A stores, which I did successfully.
- 34:45Speaker 3: Oh, I'm so proud of you.
- 34:46Speaker 4: But then I went back immediately and bought it, brought
- 34:49Speaker 4: it back Rachel and just threw it inside. I was like,
- 34:51Speaker 4: I'm so sorry I did this. It was like I
- 34:53Speaker 4: had like a streak of kleptomania as a kid, and
- 34:57Speaker 4: it is gone from my body now. And it that
- 35:00Speaker 4: was the final release, because I was like, what am
- 35:03Speaker 4: I doing?
- 35:04Speaker 3: How did you steal them?
- 35:06Speaker 4: Shove it in my pants?
- 35:08Speaker 3: So you didn't like go in the dressing room and
- 35:09Speaker 3: put them on and put I did that.
- 35:11Speaker 4: Yeah I shoved or yeah, I well they were these
- 35:14Speaker 4: weird ones where it was actually too obvious when I
- 35:17Speaker 4: had them on under my pants, so I did kind
- 35:19Speaker 4: of like ball it up like and then held a
- 35:22Speaker 4: sweater over my you know what I mean. Whatever, And
- 35:25Speaker 4: I was just like if they find out, like I
- 35:27Speaker 4: had never stolen something that expensive before, and I was
- 35:30Speaker 4: like this is fucking insane, Like I'm not stealing food
- 35:33Speaker 4: that I need. I'm stealing like designer pants, which I
- 35:36Speaker 4: honestly don't have an issue with.
- 35:37Speaker 3: I have zero issue.
- 35:38Speaker 4: It was more just like this could ruin my life,
- 35:43Speaker 4: right potentially, Well that's true too, sort of a rider,
- 35:48Speaker 4: yeah yeah, but anyway, I just freaked out, threw the
- 35:53Speaker 4: pants in, and then immediately had a panic attack outside,
- 35:56Speaker 4: of course, and just then Meredith Marks walked by with her.
- 36:00Speaker 4: But I was like, Meridith, it like took me out
- 36:05Speaker 4: of it.
- 36:05Speaker 1: What a cure.
- 36:06Speaker 3: It's such a cure.
- 36:08Speaker 4: Yeah, And they were really nice. And then I posted
- 36:13Speaker 4: these pictures of me with them and wrote in and
- 36:16Speaker 4: seeing caption about us being in a threesome and like
- 36:20Speaker 4: all this stuff because Seth.
- 36:21Speaker 3: Took the picture. You got to be careful because you
- 36:22Speaker 3: could end up in a threesome with this couple.
- 36:24Speaker 4: I would love to.
- 36:25Speaker 3: I mean, Seth is looking for it, and you can tell.
- 36:27Speaker 4: He loves the idea. But they thought it was so funny.
- 36:30Speaker 4: And now they both follow me, Oh my god, that's great,
- 36:32Speaker 4: but Meredith won't answer me.
- 36:34Speaker 3: Oh interesting kind of Uh that's a power move though,
- 36:38Speaker 3: to be like I'm here, but I'm not giving you anything. Yeah,
- 36:41Speaker 3: maybe she's just not that active on socials like you are.
- 36:45Speaker 4: She's quite active, but maybe she has someone managing it, right,
- 36:49Speaker 4: which is the dream of course.
- 36:50Speaker 3: Yeah, that's like to have a middleman to be like,
- 36:52Speaker 3: here's the thing, do this, and occasionally check in just
- 36:55Speaker 3: to make sure things aren't completely on fire. Yeah. Wow,
- 36:59Speaker 3: so Meredith Mark's dead bird stealing. Yeah, you just threw
- 37:04Speaker 3: the pants back in there. Yeah, what's the second biggest
- 37:08Speaker 3: thing you've stolen? And I spent some time drawing for
- 37:10Speaker 3: a moment.
- 37:13Speaker 4: Banned from urban outfitters because I stole some I probably
- 37:17Speaker 4: stole stuff worth two hundred dollars in total. Oh wow,
- 37:20Speaker 4: that's not so bad.
- 37:22Speaker 3: That's so you like you went multiple times?
- 37:25Speaker 4: No, no, this was one go okay, and they caught
- 37:28Speaker 4: me because again I was shoving stuff. Actually, I was
- 37:31Speaker 4: shoving stuff in my lunchbox. I was in high school
- 37:34Speaker 4: and I had a lunch box.
- 37:37Speaker 3: Was it like a did have a design on it?
- 37:39Speaker 2: No?
- 37:39Speaker 4: It was very plain.
- 37:40Speaker 3: Oh okay, it.
- 37:41Speaker 4: Was kind of like fabric you right.
- 37:46Speaker 3: Yeah, all those those always kind of feel dirty to me.
- 37:49Speaker 4: There was disgusting stuff spilled out. I used to pack
- 37:52Speaker 4: chips and then I want to catch up to dip
- 37:55Speaker 4: the chips into.
- 37:56Speaker 3: I love catchup. Okay, wow, so maybe draw that I'm
- 37:59Speaker 3: thinking about it.
- 38:01Speaker 4: And I would just put it in. I would get
- 38:05Speaker 4: a piece of tinfoil, squirt the ketchup in, and then
- 38:09Speaker 4: bunch up the tinfoil, which would obviously always spill out
- 38:13Speaker 4: into the lunch box. But I was like, this is
- 38:15Speaker 4: the only thing. Like I didn't have tupperware r. You
- 38:18Speaker 4: just had like plastic bags and tinfoil.
- 38:21Speaker 3: But if you did have plastic bags.
- 38:23Speaker 4: So you then it would just be like this flat.
- 38:26Speaker 4: Like I was like, if I can bunch up the
- 38:28Speaker 4: tinfoil enough, at least it'll be like a pile a
- 38:30Speaker 4: little cup, yeah, whereas in the bag it just gets.
- 38:33Speaker 3: Like a sheet. Ketchup is kind of one of the
- 38:36Speaker 3: worst things you can have leak to, Like first old
- 38:39Speaker 3: ketchup Yeah, stickiness.
- 38:41Speaker 4: Yeah, it's it was not good.
- 38:43Speaker 3: But you did it over and over pretty much every day.
- 38:46Speaker 3: And then they probably smelled you in urban outfitters definitely,
- 38:50Speaker 3: and then they banned you. How does that work?
- 38:51Speaker 4: They caught me, they took my picture and they're like,
- 38:53Speaker 4: you can't come back like your pictured be sent to
- 38:55Speaker 4: all the stores, and then that one has since closed.
- 38:59Speaker 3: Okay, I think a lot of since colored. But I
- 39:01Speaker 3: kinda say, like some other stuff, you could if you
- 39:04Speaker 3: went in there and went to the clearance rack, you
- 39:06Speaker 3: could get some great.
- 39:08Speaker 4: Get a couple pair of beady g jeans, right.
- 39:11Speaker 3: As long as it's not like a novelty T shirt
- 39:14Speaker 3: or some stupid thing like that, you could get some
- 39:16Speaker 3: decent things in there. I wonder if they're all closing,
- 39:19Speaker 3: their time may be done.
- 39:21Speaker 4: You know, I don't know.
- 39:22Speaker 3: I think we've I mean, but you know, if Hot
- 39:25Speaker 3: Topic has lasted this long, I feel like Urban Outfitters
- 39:27Speaker 3: was like Millennials.
- 39:28Speaker 4: Such other store that smelled crazy.
- 39:31Speaker 3: Hot Topic.
- 39:31Speaker 4: Yeah, I always found it to have a crazy smell.
- 39:34Speaker 3: I wonder what that was. Was it all of the
- 39:35Speaker 3: Funko pops.
- 39:36Speaker 4: Or yeah, it's like burning plastic.
- 39:39Speaker 3: It's so much plastic. Yeah, that storre was almost entirely plastic.
- 39:43Speaker 3: And then like flammable T shirts. Yeah, yeah, interesting.
- 39:47Speaker 4: I really liked Happy Bunny.
- 39:49Speaker 3: Are you familiar with familiar with Happy Bunny?
- 39:51Speaker 4: I kind of want to start wearing Happy Bunny. It's
- 39:53Speaker 4: a bunny that basically says like go fuck yourself.
- 39:56Speaker 3: Oh sure, it's kind of got an edge.
- 39:58Speaker 4: Yeah, it looks cute, but exactly.
- 40:02Speaker 3: I'm trying to picture if i've I bet I've seen that.
- 40:04Speaker 4: Yeah, it's it's it was iconic at a time, that
- 40:08Speaker 4: was my brand.
- 40:10Speaker 3: Okay, so you met Meredith Marx and Seth took a picture.
- 40:14Speaker 3: I'm trying to think of how I could draw one
- 40:16Speaker 3: of those two. But I feel like, oh, do you
- 40:18Speaker 3: know what I can draw to represent them? Something that
- 40:20Speaker 3: I think is very key to their relationship, which I
- 40:24Speaker 3: think is important, say Big Loss.
- 40:29Speaker 4: Wait, why is that important to their relations.
- 40:30Speaker 3: Because he is the CFO I think of Big Loss.
- 40:35Speaker 3: You're kidd is one of the head honchos over at
- 40:37Speaker 3: Big Holy Ship of another business that's rapid.
- 40:41Speaker 4: Yeah, genuinely, he's always like I feel like his work.
- 40:43Speaker 3: Stuff is always like fucked, it's always. He worked at
- 40:47Speaker 3: overstock dot com. I'm a former employee of overstock dot com,
- 40:51Speaker 3: but it was before his reign. It was a copywriter,
- 40:56Speaker 3: which was never get a copywriting did you try?
- 41:01Speaker 4: Yes, this is the thing, if I may police, It's like,
- 41:05Speaker 4: you know, people were assistants at like you know, an
- 41:08Speaker 4: agency or publishing or or copyright. Like I tried so
- 41:13Speaker 4: hard to get the like normal jobs that people get
- 41:17Speaker 4: when they're trying to break in, and I couldn't, Like
- 41:21Speaker 4: I couldn't even get that.
- 41:22Speaker 3: Where do you think you went wrong? I don't know.
- 41:27Speaker 3: I know, like you're a competent person, you're smart.
- 41:29Speaker 4: I am, and now I do have a career, but
- 41:31Speaker 4: I'm just like I tried so hard to do it
- 41:33Speaker 4: in the normal way.
- 41:34Speaker 3: Did you ever have like a part time or like
- 41:36Speaker 3: more menial type job I was.
- 41:39Speaker 4: I had, like I was a barista for many years.
- 41:41Speaker 4: I was a pre K like assistant teacher for many years.
- 41:45Speaker 4: I did tutoring, but it was all kinds of stuff
- 41:47Speaker 4: that was either like you know, like customer front, you know,
- 41:52Speaker 4: barista or whatever, or like education, right, but those had
- 41:56Speaker 4: nothing to do with the industry I was trying to
- 41:58Speaker 4: get into.
- 42:00Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean those sort of jobs are kind of
- 42:01Speaker 3: I mean, like they're weirdly competitive to get, like these
- 42:04Speaker 3: horrible jobs, jobs that are probably the hardest ones in
- 42:07Speaker 3: the business yea, and the lowest paying, yes, because you
- 42:10Speaker 3: basically have to like be an intern at uta or something,
- 42:14Speaker 3: or you know, like I have, like your uncle works somewhere. Yes,
- 42:18Speaker 3: even to be like a pah, which I mean I
- 42:21Speaker 3: was a PA, but it was because I had interned
- 42:23Speaker 3: at another show.
- 42:24Speaker 4: And how did you get the internship?
- 42:27Speaker 3: Truly sheer luck. It was a letterman at David Letterman,
- 42:31Speaker 3: and it was I think I submitted twice, and I
- 42:35Speaker 3: think the second time they were probably like, all of
- 42:37Speaker 3: our interns are coming from New York. This person wants
- 42:40Speaker 3: to come from Utah. Let him do it.
- 42:41Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 42:42Speaker 3: Wow. So it worked out. And then there was part
- 42:45Speaker 3: of me that thinks that part of the reason I
- 42:48Speaker 3: got the job was I kind of interviewed with the
- 42:51Speaker 3: front desk person and at the time I had like
- 42:55Speaker 3: long red hair, and later found out that she was
- 42:57Speaker 3: like fully obsessed with Harry Potter and like looking at
- 43:01Speaker 3: fan photos, Oh my god. And I caught a look
- 43:05Speaker 3: over her shoulder once of her like looking at like.
- 43:07Speaker 4: A Ronald Weasley.
- 43:10Speaker 3: Yeah, It's like, oh, so this is the reason.
- 43:13Speaker 4: I got Yeah, got its.
- 43:16Speaker 3: Speculation, but I was like, that just cannot be a.
- 43:19Speaker 4: Coincidence, certainly not wow, God bless. Yeah, so you did
- 43:25Speaker 4: have a little bit of an industry connect.
- 43:27Speaker 3: Yeah, just by sheer luck. But otherwise there's no chance
- 43:35Speaker 3: I would have gotten into the business. Yeah, and then
- 43:37Speaker 3: Twitter helped because that was the other way you could
- 43:39Speaker 3: get in without Harvard before. Yeah, and now it's all
- 43:43Speaker 3: kind of reverted back to whatever that was. Right, just
- 43:45Speaker 3: a nightmare. Right, But you're probably lucky you didn't have
- 43:48Speaker 3: to do any of those terrible I.
- 43:49Speaker 4: Definitely am lucky in many ways.
- 43:53Speaker 3: Right.
- 43:53Speaker 4: It seems really hard.
- 43:55Speaker 3: Have you ever been in a big loss?
- 43:57Speaker 4: I don't think so. I don't know that we have
- 44:00Speaker 4: other thing? Where is it the same as?
- 44:03Speaker 3: Like I'm trying to think of, like what a comp
- 44:07Speaker 3: for big lots would be. It's like what they sell
- 44:10Speaker 3: kind of everything. It's like, is it like dollar Tree?
- 44:14Speaker 3: So grated dollar Tree. It's like if you went to
- 44:16Speaker 3: Dollar Tree and everything was normally prish. Yeah. Perfect, So
- 44:20Speaker 3: kind of a dream store or anyone.
- 44:22Speaker 4: I think my mom maybe goes to big lots or
- 44:25Speaker 4: she goes to odd Jobs. Oh wait, is that a store?
- 44:30Speaker 3: I as a kid, we were going we would go
- 44:31Speaker 3: somewhere called Jobbers Odd Lots. You're getting, which was kind
- 44:37Speaker 3: of that sort of store.
- 44:38Speaker 4: Jobbers Odd Lot.
- 44:41Speaker 3: What do you mean? I have no idea what the
- 44:44Speaker 3: business model is. I just remember I was so young,
- 44:47Speaker 3: it was I just remember being weirdly dark, and they
- 44:50Speaker 3: just had like all sorts of junk jobbers jobbers. Isn't
- 44:54Speaker 3: that a great name for a business? Jobbers? Odd lots
- 44:56Speaker 3: and your mom would go to odd jobs.
- 44:58Speaker 4: Yeah, but now I'm just like, am I just pulling
- 45:01Speaker 4: at like things I've heard? Because odd job is a phrase?
- 45:05Speaker 3: Right, odd job? Yeah, you take odd jobs?
- 45:08Speaker 4: I might just be saying that. And is there we
- 45:10Speaker 4: were just talking about odd jobs.
- 45:11Speaker 3: I think there might be a James Bond villain named
- 45:13Speaker 3: odd job?
- 45:14Speaker 4: Is that right that I know nothing about?
- 45:17Speaker 3: If I know that they're not good for me? Yeah,
- 45:20Speaker 3: there is. Wow, I should go on Jeopardy.
- 45:23Speaker 4: This is proof you would be great on Jeopardy.
- 45:25Speaker 3: Great to just kind of be the third place and
- 45:28Speaker 3: the other two people get to win. Yeah, and they
- 45:30Speaker 3: did you have to fill one of those things. Yeah,
- 45:32Speaker 3: I would love to go on Jeopardy, even if I've flopped.
- 45:35Speaker 4: I think you. I mean, yeah, it just sounds fun.
- 45:37Speaker 4: I like doing like trivia, right, which I've never really
- 45:43Speaker 4: watched it.
- 45:43Speaker 3: I don't care. I bet you would enjoy it. Everyone
- 45:46Speaker 3: likes Jeopardy. Yeah. I like trivia as long as it's
- 45:49Speaker 3: things that don't require any level of actual education or intelligence.
- 45:53Speaker 4: Yeah, things just come to me when they ask questions.
- 45:57Speaker 3: You know what I mean, just channeled to you.
- 45:59Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 46:00Speaker 3: It just it is like, do you have a category
- 46:02Speaker 3: that you're good with?
- 46:04Speaker 4: Nope, I think I'm okay at many.
- 46:07Speaker 3: Oh, okay, that's I think that's kind of the key.
- 46:10Speaker 2: Then.
- 46:10Speaker 4: Yeah, and then you have to bring people. You're like, oh,
- 46:12Speaker 4: this guy is obsessed with World War two, this guy
- 46:14Speaker 4: is obsessed with the movies. Right, But I cover everything.
- 46:19Speaker 3: Right, so you're kind of covering basis for people when
- 46:22Speaker 3: the World War two. I guess they can only do
- 46:27Speaker 3: like pop culture stuff and entertainment and then weird bits
- 46:32Speaker 3: of history here and there. But otherwise when those other
- 46:35Speaker 3: categories are being I'm very quietly just waiting for the
- 46:38Speaker 3: rest of the I do this quiz on the Financial Times.
- 46:43Speaker 3: Okay about this, This seems very appealing to me.
- 46:46Speaker 4: Actually it's a British newspaper.
- 46:48Speaker 3: Okay, yes, but.
- 46:49Speaker 4: They I don't care about the newspaper. It's just a quiz.
- 46:52Speaker 4: But they ask you questions and then you have to
- 46:54Speaker 4: figure out the link.
- 46:57Speaker 3: Oh, it's kind of like I'm addicted to that, right,
- 47:01Speaker 3: So how many questions do they answer? Ten? Ten? Yeah?
- 47:04Speaker 4: And it's like trivia question, right, But then what helps
- 47:08Speaker 4: is figuring out the link.
- 47:09Speaker 3: Oh this sounds great. It's so fun because I play
- 47:12Speaker 3: a lot of connections the New York Times one. Yeah,
- 47:16Speaker 3: and this seems like an almost upgraded version it is
- 47:18Speaker 3: or something due to the trivia, because I frequently disagree
- 47:22Speaker 3: with the connections. I'm pretty good at of it. Sometimes
- 47:24Speaker 3: I'm like, sorry, there, some of these things could have
- 47:27Speaker 3: worked in two different categories and you failed. Yeah, that's
- 47:31Speaker 3: not tricking someone that's failing at your job, right, and
- 47:34Speaker 3: they need to know.
- 47:34Speaker 4: I kind of stopped doing that. I got really obsessed
- 47:37Speaker 4: with it as a way to ward off dementia.
- 47:39Speaker 3: Oh yeah, that's every time I'm like, this is my
- 47:41Speaker 3: vitamin for the Yeah. Yeah. And there's no chance it's
- 47:44Speaker 3: actually it's doing nothing fun. Yeah, probably not. If anything,
- 47:48Speaker 3: I'm getting worse brain.
- 47:49Speaker 4: Wise, it's definitely possible.
- 47:51Speaker 3: Okay, let me see if I can draw another thing here,
- 47:55Speaker 3: I'm going to draw.
- 47:57Speaker 4: I'll draw one too. I drew on earlier as well.
- 48:02Speaker 3: Just a bad picture and it's not exactly there's no
- 48:10Speaker 3: chance to know what that says. Let's see that little
- 48:14Speaker 3: triangle in the middle pursuits yes. Wow, Well I could.
- 48:20Speaker 4: Read your writings Barry bless you Dead Hamster and Harry Potter.
- 48:31Speaker 3: Well, yours is filling up. I mean the one you're
- 48:33Speaker 3: doing for me is filling up. But I still feel
- 48:35Speaker 3: like I'm not really Uh, you know what else I'm
- 48:38Speaker 3: going to do? Right here?
- 48:39Speaker 4: That's a great drawing.
- 48:40Speaker 3: It's a gorgeous drawing.
- 48:42Speaker 4: You know what we should turn these into flash tattoo.
- 48:45Speaker 3: Oh do you know what about flash tattoos? Which I
- 48:48Speaker 3: found very disappointing, was there was a friend had a
- 48:52Speaker 3: flash tattoo artist at her birthday and had advertised this.
- 48:57Speaker 3: I thought, oh, this will be so much fun, thinking oh,
- 48:59Speaker 3: it's just like imporary tattoos. Then I got there and realized, oh,
- 49:02Speaker 3: it's real. I can't commit to this. Still, do you
- 49:04Speaker 3: have any No, I'm I think I'm gonna get one though.
- 49:06Speaker 4: Really, you know, it's been a secret.
- 49:09Speaker 3: No, it's a picture of my old dog. But I
- 49:12Speaker 3: just have been I procrastinate everything. But I think I'm
- 49:16Speaker 3: like very closest.
- 49:18Speaker 4: Yeah, so you thought flash tattoo was like it's a
- 49:20Speaker 4: tattoo that's gone in a flash.
- 49:22Speaker 3: Like it's worthless. No, I just thought, you know, I
- 49:27Speaker 3: figured it was like a new, better version of temporary tattoos. Oh,
- 49:31Speaker 3: you know, better technology or something.
- 49:33Speaker 4: No, I've given tattoos at two parties. Here's another skill, which,
- 49:39Speaker 4: by the way, it's like not, well, I guess it's
- 49:42Speaker 4: a bit of a skill. I mean it's a bit
- 49:44Speaker 4: cringe to show up to a party with a tattoo
- 49:47Speaker 4: kit and it's sick and poke. Right, So I've probably
- 49:51Speaker 4: given like twenty tattoos in my life.
- 49:53Speaker 3: Oh my god.
- 49:55Speaker 4: But I'm not that good at it, so people will
- 49:57Speaker 4: ask for things that I like, I can't.
- 50:00Speaker 3: But it's kind of not your faults, yeah, I mean, well,
- 50:04Speaker 3: really very clear.
- 50:05Speaker 4: I'm like, look, I'm sterilizing everything so you don't have
- 50:07Speaker 4: to worry about health, right, But you I can't do
- 50:11Speaker 4: much more than that. I can do circle star heart
- 50:16Speaker 4: and some I gave one to my friend on her
- 50:19Speaker 4: wrist and it looks horrible and I think she hates it.
- 50:22Speaker 3: Again, absolutely her fault.
- 50:24Speaker 4: Well, I was a little like, I don't really know
- 50:26Speaker 4: what to tell you, Like I did tell you that
- 50:29Speaker 4: this was not kind of even if I.
- 50:30Speaker 3: Went to a party and there was like a pretty
- 50:32Speaker 3: professional person, I wouldn't expect to get the best tattoo. Yeah,
- 50:35Speaker 3: I think this is a tattoo I've decided to get
- 50:37Speaker 3: at a party, right, just on a whim.
- 50:39Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 50:40Speaker 3: So the fact that anyone would expect you to do
- 50:43Speaker 3: anything worse better than the absolute worst.
- 50:45Speaker 4: I appreciate that for free, by the for free.
- 50:47Speaker 3: Yeah. So yeah, this was my other problem with a
- 50:49Speaker 3: splash tattoo at the party. I have to pay for it.
- 50:52Speaker 4: Yeah that's crazy. Your friend should have paid for that.
- 50:54Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm not. I'm not coming to your birthday to pay.
- 50:57Speaker 3: And she was probably skimming a little off the top.
- 50:59Speaker 3: It's probably her little busy Yeah, I'm.
- 51:00Speaker 4: Sure, is it? It was it a big birthday, like,
- 51:04Speaker 4: because I've only heard of it really at weddings.
- 51:06Speaker 3: Wedding Yeah, okay, and uh oh wow have you ever
- 51:10Speaker 3: gotten one?
- 51:11Speaker 4: I haven't gotten a flash tattoo at an event, but
- 51:13Speaker 4: I have a bunch of tattoos.
- 51:14Speaker 3: Oh right, Yeah, I need to I just need to commit.
- 51:18Speaker 3: I feel like, why not?
- 51:20Speaker 4: It's fun? But also then sometimes I'm like, I wish
- 51:22Speaker 4: I had none?
- 51:24Speaker 3: Really? Yeah, why?
- 51:26Speaker 4: There are a couple I regret, Okay, And then sometimes
- 51:30Speaker 4: I'm like, oh, I'd like to not like I've just
- 51:33Speaker 4: like to not have them.
- 51:34Speaker 3: Right, just not to be a person without tattoo.
- 51:36Speaker 4: Yeah, because you do have them. Once you have them,
- 51:40Speaker 4: you have them. And I have some friends who are
- 51:42Speaker 4: getting them like laser removed. But it sounds so painful,
- 51:45Speaker 4: I'm sure, and really expensive.
- 51:47Speaker 3: Body is just being torched. Yeah, yeah, and it's kind
- 51:51Speaker 3: of not that effective, right, Like.
- 51:53Speaker 4: No, it's still like it's just a different tattoo.
- 51:56Speaker 3: Now you just have a worse tattoo. Yeah.
- 51:59Speaker 4: But I have one that I got like really late
- 52:01Speaker 4: one night with this guy who was like so weird whatever,
- 52:05Speaker 4: and it's like basically like spreading in my body.
- 52:09Speaker 3: I mean it's safe. Shit, Oh that sucks.
- 52:13Speaker 4: And it was like a very yeah, it looks so bad.
- 52:16Speaker 3: What was what is it of?
- 52:18Speaker 4: It's of this like when I was a when I
- 52:21Speaker 4: was a pre K assistant teacher, I was like in
- 52:24Speaker 4: charge of nap time, okay, and a lot of the
- 52:27Speaker 4: kids who didn't want to sleep, I would draw them
- 52:30Speaker 4: the squiggle that they could collar.
- 52:32Speaker 3: In okay okay, And it.
- 52:33Speaker 4: Became like I was doing like twenty squiggles a day.
- 52:36Speaker 4: But I like it was like I love doing it.
- 52:39Speaker 4: So I made a squiggle for myself and got a tattooed.
- 52:43Speaker 3: Well, that's kind of the best version of a tattoo
- 52:45Speaker 3: to fall apart.
- 52:47Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 52:47Speaker 3: I mean if it was kind of nothing before, it'll
- 52:49Speaker 3: just be a different Yeah.
- 52:51Speaker 4: Now it's yeah, it's something something else.
- 52:54Speaker 3: I'm gonna draw classic test and I've I drew something
- 52:58Speaker 3: that looks like a squiggle and isn't, which I'll have
- 53:02Speaker 3: to explain here.
- 53:03Speaker 4: I can't wait.
- 53:04Speaker 3: Now I'm drawing a Yeah, should I put a name
- 53:10Speaker 3: in the middle. Let's see here, Let's just keep on
- 53:17Speaker 3: the name.
- 53:17Speaker 4: I'll be of the personal marry maybe seth marks.
- 53:25Speaker 3: Now see this squiggle right here was an attempt. This
- 53:29Speaker 3: would have required a lot of shading and texture. It
- 53:31Speaker 3: was a rock for then, but ultimately it kind of
- 53:34Speaker 3: works us both now as a squiggle and a Yeah.
- 53:36Speaker 4: That's great.
- 53:37Speaker 3: So that's good. Did you say you have another for me?
- 53:41Speaker 4: No, I'm hinting, do you want something?
- 53:47Speaker 3: No? I feel like I need to do one more
- 53:49Speaker 3: before we move on to the game. And I just said,
- 53:52Speaker 3: let's see here, thinking we're thinking.
- 53:56Speaker 4: Do you have any questions for me?
- 53:58Speaker 3: Let's see here. I'm trying to think of the things
- 54:02Speaker 3: you had already drawn on mine. I know you're from
- 54:05Speaker 3: New York. I know you hate animation. Yeah, I let's see.
- 54:14Speaker 3: How often do you get your hair cut? You know,
- 54:16Speaker 3: I'm growing it out, you are.
- 54:18Speaker 4: But there was a for many years I had really
- 54:21Speaker 4: short hair.
- 54:21Speaker 3: What's the plan for length?
- 54:23Speaker 4: As long as I can?
- 54:26Speaker 3: Like? Would you like like a length? No? No?
- 54:29Speaker 4: Like here, I mean like you know Kate ber Lance
- 54:33Speaker 4: hair is and cr I mean she is the best.
- 54:36Speaker 3: I don't think it's really fair to other people. It
- 54:39Speaker 3: just feels effortless.
- 54:40Speaker 4: It's unreal. But like that length I used to I
- 54:43Speaker 4: have long hair for a while. Then I just chopped
- 54:46Speaker 4: it and buzzed it, and then I was buzzing it.
- 54:48Speaker 4: Then I had picks buzzing it. Oh yeah, that sounds
- 54:51Speaker 4: so nice. It was fun, so free. But there was
- 54:54Speaker 4: a point where I was going to the lesbian barber
- 54:58Speaker 4: once every six weeks spending That's where all of my
- 55:02Speaker 4: money went for about a year.
- 55:03Speaker 3: How much were they charging for a buzz? Well?
- 55:05Speaker 4: I was doing a little more than a buzz at
- 55:07Speaker 4: that point.
- 55:08Speaker 3: Okay.
- 55:09Speaker 4: I had the like kind of like buzz sides with
- 55:11Speaker 4: the like you know, oh.
- 55:15Speaker 3: Right right.
- 55:16Speaker 4: Every time I would either bring in a picture of
- 55:18Speaker 4: Timothy Schalmey or justin bieber and they were like, we
- 55:21Speaker 4: can't do this for you, but then I would just
- 55:23Speaker 4: pay for whatever they suggested.
- 55:25Speaker 3: How much were you paying?
- 55:27Speaker 4: I want to say it was like one hundred and twenty.
- 55:30Speaker 3: That's tough. This is an indictment of lesbians everywhere. Yep,
- 55:35Speaker 3: don't trust a lesbian barber. Well, this is kind of
- 55:38Speaker 3: a goal for you.
- 55:39Speaker 4: I love that.
- 55:40Speaker 3: I feel like that would be a good look for you.
- 55:43Speaker 4: Did you add Banks? Yeah, so you think I should
- 55:46Speaker 4: get Banks?
- 55:47Speaker 3: Well, I feel like it'll be you know, it'll be
- 55:48Speaker 3: more like not bangs. It'll just be so long that
- 55:51Speaker 3: it'll be like, you know, in a fun everywhere. Yeah where.
- 55:55Speaker 3: Sometimes it's in your face, sometimes it's not. You're flinging it. Yeah,
- 56:00Speaker 3: I don't think you could you do Banks?
- 56:03Speaker 4: You mean because of the curly hair. Yeah, you can,
- 56:06Speaker 4: but not I've I mean, like I have like this.
- 56:08Speaker 3: Yeah that's a that's a good curly bang.
- 56:10Speaker 4: But sometimes it'll just.
- 56:12Speaker 3: Right if it's a nightmare, Yeah, I guess you if
- 56:15Speaker 3: you really.
- 56:15Speaker 4: Committed to it, you know, as they call the jewfrow.
- 56:19Speaker 3: Oh sure, sure that for a long time, right, But
- 56:22Speaker 3: curly hair is tricky, Yes, it requires a lot of
- 56:27Speaker 3: thought and effort.
- 56:28Speaker 4: Certainly.
- 56:29Speaker 3: Well, I've I've drawn this for you, You've drawn for me.
- 56:32Speaker 3: I think we should play a game. Great, we're gonna
- 56:35Speaker 3: play a game called Gift to a Curse. I need
- 56:37Speaker 3: a number between one and ten from you. Seven.
- 56:39Speaker 4: Everyone probably chooses seven.
- 56:42Speaker 3: Okay. I have to do some light calculating to get
- 56:45Speaker 3: our game pieces. So right now, you can promote, you
- 56:48Speaker 3: can recommend, do whatever you want.
- 56:50Speaker 4: So, as I mentioned earlier, I am on Jury DUT
- 56:53Speaker 4: season two. All episodes are now streaming. How fabulous sometimes
- 56:58Speaker 4: that you stand up. I could do flash tattoo.
- 57:03Speaker 3: Yeah, you're online? People can sure? What's this movie you're in?
- 57:09Speaker 3: Is that out yet?
- 57:10Speaker 4: It is a pilot? Oh, it's a pilot, Indy pilot.
- 57:14Speaker 3: This is an interesting new world for entering, isn't it.
- 57:16Speaker 4: Yes? And it's like it's directed by Nicole Hole of
- 57:19Speaker 4: Center kind of a legend, produced by Barry Jenkins.
- 57:23Speaker 3: Okay, so this is a real thing.
- 57:25Speaker 4: Well we'll see. I would love for it to be.
- 57:28Speaker 3: I mean, even if it doesn't become a show. I
- 57:29Speaker 3: bet it's good.
- 57:30Speaker 4: It's good. I'm really proud of it. But it's uh,
- 57:34Speaker 4: not up to me.
- 57:35Speaker 3: Right, it's kind of a not up to anyone at
- 57:37Speaker 3: this point. There's just a pure chance that anything gets made. Yep.
- 57:40Speaker 3: And I think that that's good.
- 57:42Speaker 4: I think it's really best.
- 57:43Speaker 3: No one has any control. Yeah, okay, Oh I want
- 57:47Speaker 3: to recommend I bet I've already. I went to see
- 57:50Speaker 3: Rat Boys last night, our friends, the Rat Boys here
- 57:53Speaker 3: in LA and they're a wonderful band, and I just
- 57:55Speaker 3: want to keep recommending them. I just adore them. Just
- 57:58Speaker 3: I think it might be the second recommendation of the
- 58:00Speaker 3: row and I don't care. Ah, And is there anything
- 58:03Speaker 3: I'm watching on TV? No, watching Homicide New York. Then
- 58:07Speaker 3: I thought, no, I don't know what that is, just
- 58:10Speaker 3: about murder, and then I was like, yeah, yeah, of
- 58:12Speaker 3: course the person got killed because the other person's bad. Yeah,
- 58:15Speaker 3: there's no mystery, right, Okay, this is how we play
- 58:18Speaker 3: gift to a curse. I'm going to name three things.
- 58:21Speaker 3: You'll tell me if they are a gift or a
- 58:23Speaker 3: curse and why, and then I'll tell you if you're
- 58:26Speaker 3: right or wrong. Oh okay, there are correct answer cool,
- 58:28Speaker 3: all right? This first one is from a listener named
- 58:30Speaker 3: William Gift or a curse. Gas station security height sticker
- 58:35Speaker 3: next to the door.
- 58:36Speaker 4: Wow, well, oh my god, I guess well, ultimately it's
- 58:43Speaker 4: a curse. Why One, you're reminded of your own height. Two,
- 58:49Speaker 4: obviously it's like surveillance state vibes.
- 58:51Speaker 3: Sure.
- 58:52Speaker 4: Three I think if people want to lie about their
- 58:55Speaker 4: like if you're on a second date and you're going
- 58:57Speaker 4: to the gas station and the guy gets out of
- 58:59Speaker 4: the car walks in, I think it's his prerogative to
- 59:02Speaker 4: lie about his height, and I don't think it's fair
- 59:04Speaker 4: for the gas station to out him.
- 59:06Speaker 3: Interesting, so cursed, Okay, wrong guy, I figured why. I
- 59:12Speaker 3: feel like that's added value to the gas station. Where
- 59:15Speaker 3: else do you get a free measurement? Yeah? The only
- 59:18Speaker 3: other place is you have to go to the doctor's office.
- 59:19Speaker 3: They should have a scale there too. Should go the
- 59:21Speaker 3: way you're saying, yeah, yeah, yeah, I truly have no
- 59:24Speaker 3: idea of where else I would learn how maybe there's
- 59:27Speaker 3: a chance I grew another light life in Yeah, oh
- 59:29Speaker 3: my god. But you know, it's a fun little thing, novelty.
- 59:32Speaker 3: It's kind of got almost a carnival or fair vibe
- 59:36Speaker 3: of like, yeah, I guess your height sort of thing.
- 59:39Speaker 3: And I think that the other side of the coin
- 59:42Speaker 3: is finding out that the man you're dating is lying
- 59:44Speaker 3: to you about his height, and then you're like, Okay,
- 59:46Speaker 3: this is the last time I will cut him off
- 59:49Speaker 3: and he'll never know why.
- 59:51Speaker 4: It's a gift for the non liar.
- 59:53Speaker 3: Yeah exactly, yeah, yeah, okay, all right. The second one
- 59:56Speaker 3: is from a listener named Christen gift to a curse
- 59:58Speaker 3: season passes curse.
- 1:00:00Speaker 4: Why then you have to go? It's like buying a
- 1:00:05Speaker 4: metro card and you don't use it enough. I mean,
- 1:00:09Speaker 4: I guess that's not a thing anymore, but it's like
- 1:00:11Speaker 4: I would always be like I shouldn't walk, I should
- 1:00:14Speaker 4: take the train, I have to use this by the
- 1:00:16Speaker 4: end of the week whatever. And it's like, well, I
- 1:00:19Speaker 4: don't want to go to Universal Studios, but like I
- 1:00:21Speaker 4: have to. I have a season bass. I understand there
- 1:00:24Speaker 4: are perks to it, but I think it's more of
- 1:00:26Speaker 4: a burden.
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: Correct curse because I don't want to commit to that, right,
- 1:00:31Speaker 3: I don't want. I feel like it it's a thing
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: where they don't believe in people changing. Yeah, you know,
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: I buy it. What if I become a different person?
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: I don't want to go to disneyling right right, right, right?
- 1:00:43Speaker 3: And truly the pressure of getting your value. Yeah, no,
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: thank you, No, that ruins the entire experience. You're a prisoner, yeah,
- 1:00:51Speaker 3: until the pass is over. Yeah, and also you might
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: get one of those annoying bumper stickers.
- 1:00:56Speaker 4: Don't get me started.
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: This final one is from Alex. Gift or a curse
- 1:01:04Speaker 3: putting new bottles of condiments in the fridge without opening
- 1:01:07Speaker 3: them first.
- 1:01:11Speaker 4: I wish I could. I mean, that's a curse. I
- 1:01:15Speaker 4: should have said the first one was a gift because
- 1:01:17Speaker 4: I was on the fence about it. But all three
- 1:01:19Speaker 4: are curses. That is such a dick move, don't you think?
- 1:01:24Speaker 4: It's like then whoever opens it has to open it.
- 1:01:27Speaker 4: And it's like when you're in the shower and you
- 1:01:29Speaker 4: put a new shampoo thing in and then now you
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: have a paper thing in the shower with you, Like
- 1:01:33Speaker 4: it's just like, why I wish that they didn't sell
- 1:01:37Speaker 4: it with the paper.
- 1:01:39Speaker 3: You're against government regulation?
- 1:01:41Speaker 4: Yes, is that what it is?
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: I'm sure to.
- 1:01:43Speaker 4: Keep it clean. Yeah, Well everything's still you know, what's.
- 1:01:48Speaker 3: The word I could truly cuss any more? The thing?
- 1:02:01Speaker 3: I don't know. We'll start with A and I'll just
- 1:02:05Speaker 3: go to the end of the dictionary. No, you're you're
- 1:02:10Speaker 3: wrong here this. I think this is a gift. I
- 1:02:12Speaker 3: actually have never with condiments in the fridge. I've never
- 1:02:16Speaker 3: considered until I'm going to use them, I want them
- 1:02:19Speaker 3: totally sealed. I feel like you're like said it, you're
- 1:02:22Speaker 3: lighting a fuse on the expiration.
- 1:02:24Speaker 4: Time the first time you use it, you take it off.
- 1:02:28Speaker 3: But it seems like this person's like, you get home
- 1:02:30Speaker 3: from the store, you have all of your condiments on
- 1:02:32Speaker 3: the counter. You're taking off all the things then putting
- 1:02:35Speaker 3: them in the fridge. Yes, absolutely not. Is that a
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: real thing people do?
- 1:02:39Speaker 4: I will do that. I hate it. Pisces me off.
- 1:02:42Speaker 3: Oh, I hate the sound of this. I agree with
- 1:02:44Speaker 3: the shower thing because that's not going to expire, and
- 1:02:47Speaker 3: we don't want the thing in the shower. No, those
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: things take usually three to four weeks to get out
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: of the shower. Once they've been Where do you put
- 1:02:54Speaker 3: it on the wall? I have like a little ledge
- 1:02:56Speaker 3: that I put the soap on it, then the thing
- 1:02:57Speaker 3: sits next to it. Yeah for ages, yeah yeah, But
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: with the condiments, I'm you know, I put the mustard
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: in there until it's time to go on the sandwich.
- 1:03:07Speaker 3: Totally sealed. It's a gift, so you got one right,
- 1:03:13Speaker 3: And I.
- 1:03:14Speaker 4: Said they're all curses. It's horrible things, negative attitude.
- 1:03:18Speaker 3: All right, this is the final segment of the podcast.
- 1:03:22Speaker 3: We're going to answer a listener question people are writing into.
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: I said, no gifts at gmail dot com. I don't
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: know why I paused there, like I was gonna say
- 1:03:30Speaker 3: Yahoo or something. We hope me answer a question, of course. Okay,
- 1:03:35Speaker 3: let's see here. This is uh hate when they don't
- 1:03:39Speaker 3: address the guest. It just is highbridge here, which is
- 1:03:42Speaker 3: just thoughtless. It says, I need help choosing a going
- 1:03:45Speaker 3: away gift for my sister who is moving to Alaska
- 1:03:48Speaker 3: in a few weeks. She will be working in the
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: mental health field with AmeriCorps. She has to pack light,
- 1:03:53Speaker 3: so the gift can't be bulky. She likes goth fashion,
- 1:03:57Speaker 3: Instagram and gummy warm Thanks. That's from Natalie and Baltimore.
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: So we found someone who likes Instagram.
- 1:04:06Speaker 4: So that's the obviously get hot Happy Bunny shirt.
- 1:04:13Speaker 3: It's very hot topic. That's very mom. You can't tell
- 1:04:16Speaker 3: me what to do.
- 1:04:16Speaker 4: Yeah, she likes Instagram. What is on Instagram that like?
- 1:04:21Speaker 3: Sod?
- 1:04:22Speaker 4: Just bring your phone?
- 1:04:23Speaker 3: What do you get? Love Instagram? Merch. Do they sell merch?
- 1:04:28Speaker 4: Can you imagine maybe there's like a special like because
- 1:04:31Speaker 4: the last guy, imagine it's quite beautiful when the sun
- 1:04:33Speaker 4: is out, Maybe like a special like camera.
- 1:04:37Speaker 3: One of those little lenses you can put on the phone. Yeah,
- 1:04:40Speaker 3: really take it to the next level. Yeah, that's a
- 1:04:42Speaker 3: genuinely good gift idea. It doesn't happen on this podcast.
- 1:04:47Speaker 4: Oh no, I really have a great gift giver.
- 1:04:49Speaker 3: I've kind of won. Yeah, of course I've wanted one
- 1:04:52Speaker 3: of those, but you know, it's a hard thing to
- 1:04:53Speaker 3: commit to.
- 1:04:54Speaker 4: Yeah, I wouldn't. I mean if I saw you putting
- 1:04:56Speaker 4: that on. Yeah, but in a mental health.
- 1:05:01Speaker 3: Facility, Yeah, in Alaska, and I think there's probably a
- 1:05:05Speaker 3: lot of mental health issues in Alaska for sure. That's
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: a place where it can get very dark and lonely.
- 1:05:12Speaker 3: I'm sure you.
- 1:05:13Speaker 4: Should get her like one of those lights.
- 1:05:16Speaker 3: Oh yeah, right u u V light.
- 1:05:19Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know or whatever.
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: I think it probably works in the fact that you're
- 1:05:23Speaker 3: saying I'm doing this for myself. Yeah, and then I
- 1:05:26Speaker 3: just placebo Yeah, and gummy worms, you know what I
- 1:05:29Speaker 3: was thinking about. Actually recently, have you ever had those
- 1:05:31Speaker 3: little bright Crawler eggs. I know what you're talking about,
- 1:05:35Speaker 3: but no, did they still I wonder if they still
- 1:05:37Speaker 3: sell those. That was like kind of the best version
- 1:05:39Speaker 3: of a sour gummy County because it wasn't a full worm.
- 1:05:43Speaker 3: It was an egg and had like two textures.
- 1:05:45Speaker 4: Yeah, you can find some of the inside.
- 1:05:48Speaker 3: It had like gummy worm interesting, so it was like
- 1:05:51Speaker 3: slimy they were, and they were like a little sour.
- 1:05:56Speaker 5: I'm saying, yes, yeah, the trolley sour bright eggs. They
- 1:05:59Speaker 5: might have rebranded themselves. I love those things, but it
- 1:06:02Speaker 5: looks like it's still you can get them on and
- 1:06:04Speaker 5: order them on door dash right now, let's go.
- 1:06:06Speaker 3: Let's get them over. Have you had those als?
- 1:06:09Speaker 4: No sour things. I'm obsessed with all things.
- 1:06:12Speaker 3: Our people have got to get into these things. Those
- 1:06:14Speaker 3: kind of were my diet through seventh and eighth grade,
- 1:06:17Speaker 3: just eating gummy mine cookie. See this that we can
- 1:06:22Speaker 3: really connect here.
- 1:06:23Speaker 4: I had one big cookie for lunch every day.
- 1:06:26Speaker 3: I had I think four small cookies for lunch every
- 1:06:30Speaker 3: day because my mom, I think, would give us like
- 1:06:31Speaker 3: three dollars for lunch or something, and I wanted to
- 1:06:34Speaker 3: save some of the money to buy video games, so
- 1:06:36Speaker 3: I would buy cookies and milk. Yeah, which is probably
- 1:06:40Speaker 3: why I'm the height I am. Yeah, for sure, definitely,
- 1:06:44Speaker 3: I'm sure. There were so many things.
- 1:06:46Speaker 4: One quite sure too.
- 1:06:48Speaker 3: We found a real commonality. Yeah, this is not kind
- 1:06:51Speaker 3: of a scientific short. I'm going to draw you one
- 1:06:56Speaker 3: final thing.
- 1:06:59Speaker 4: Do you think you'll frame that? I was meant to
- 1:07:00Speaker 4: bring a frame.
- 1:07:01Speaker 3: Maybe I will frame it. Actually, I can put this
- 1:07:04Speaker 3: in sign it.
- 1:07:08Speaker 4: I'm gonna draw Rachel Collie.
- 1:07:12Speaker 5: Is there anything that you guys haven't mentioned that you've drawn.
- 1:07:15Speaker 5: I just want to make sure that the listener gets
- 1:07:17Speaker 5: a picture of not me.
- 1:07:18Speaker 4: I just added short.
- 1:07:22Speaker 3: I drew Uh well, then this is also very strange.
- 1:07:25Speaker 3: What just happened. I drew you a cookie, a chocolate
- 1:07:27Speaker 3: chip cookie, and then I thought, well I should draw
- 1:07:29Speaker 3: another to kind of indicate that it's a cookie, but
- 1:07:31Speaker 3: with a bite out of it.
- 1:07:32Speaker 4: And now Bart Simpson and then it looks like six
- 1:07:36Speaker 4: looks that's crazy that.
- 1:07:39Speaker 3: It looks like Bart Simpson with acne. Well, that's and
- 1:07:44Speaker 3: that's totally fine. That's how art works.
- 1:07:46Speaker 4: Great, I love it.
- 1:07:47Speaker 3: Uh well, we I think we answered the question perfectly.
- 1:07:51Speaker 3: Good luck in Alaska, defin, sister, go save everyone in Alaska.
- 1:07:57Speaker 3: We have we both have a gift. Yeah, I don't
- 1:07:59Speaker 3: know that I've ever given a guest on this podcast
- 1:08:01Speaker 3: a gift, which is what does that say about me?
- 1:08:03Speaker 4: Well, that's a great question. And I did force your hand, You.
- 1:08:07Speaker 3: Did kind of force my yeah, no choice. Yeah, but
- 1:08:10Speaker 3: I'll get this frame you won't put in the studio
- 1:08:12Speaker 3: or something.
- 1:08:13Speaker 4: Oh my god, I can't wait.
- 1:08:14Speaker 3: If it's such a lovely time with you and me too.
- 1:08:17Speaker 3: Thank you for being here, Thanks for having me listener.
- 1:08:19Speaker 3: The podcast is over. I'm only sweating lightly. You're probably
- 1:08:23Speaker 3: sweating like crazy because you've been listening to this podcast.
- 1:08:26Speaker 3: So now you've got to go do something else. Move on,
- 1:08:29Speaker 3: I love you, goodbye. I said No Gifts is an
- 1:08:35Speaker 3: exactly right production. Our senior producer is Ellis Nelson, and
- 1:08:41Speaker 3: our episodes are beautifully mixed by Ben Tolliday. The theme
- 1:08:45Speaker 3: song is by miracle Worker Amy Mann, and we couldn't
- 1:08:48Speaker 3: do it without our booker, Patrick Cottner. You must follow
- 1:08:52Speaker 3: the show on Instagram at I said no Gifts, that's
- 1:08:54Speaker 3: where you're going to see pictures of all these wonderful
- 1:08:56Speaker 3: gifts I'm getting. And don't you want to see the gifts?
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: But I invited you here, thought I made myself perfectly clear.
- 1:09:09Speaker 4: But you're a guess to my home.
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: You gotta come to me empty, And I said, no, guess,
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: your own presences presents enough.
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: I already had too much stuff, So how did you
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: dare to surbey me?
