0:31

0:35
SPEAKER_00: It tells us why cricket got it roll.
0:37
SPEAKER_00: I'm your host, Yanis Co., 40% of film school students.
0:41
SPEAKER_00: 10 years later, since the era of his weight.
0:44
SPEAKER_00: Joining me today is coming into a frequently nominated at the end of a friend for her show fixed, Emily Wilson.
0:53
SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much for doing this.
0:54
SPEAKER_01: I'm so excited.
0:56
SPEAKER_01: This is my last day in London.
0:57
SPEAKER_00: It is, it's your last day, so I really appreciate you doing this.
0:59
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, it's a fun thing, it's a fun way to go out.
1:02
SPEAKER_00: I mean, I'm coming back and very soon, which I just found out.
1:06
SPEAKER_01: Uh so last day for now.
1:08
SPEAKER_00: When did you book when did you actually book it in then?
1:10
SPEAKER_01: They actually they offered it, uh Soho Theater offered the second run like the night when I was starting my first one.
1:16
SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
1:19
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because you completely sold out.
1:21
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was crazy.
1:22
SPEAKER_01: That's cra I still am like I it's so easy for like you to become numbed like you know, this week, just like every day working on the show and freaking out about it, and then it's like you forget like how much it should be appreciated that there's like people here.
1:36
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's always been great.
1:37
SPEAKER_00: And I came to I came to see it again the other day.
1:40
SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
1:41
SPEAKER_00: It's like it's it felt um slight a little bit different as well now, I think.
1:46
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
1:46
SPEAKER_01: I mean you saw it early in Edinburgh, probably.
1:49
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I saw it very early.
1:50
SPEAKER_00: So I saw you doing the tech run, obviously.
1:52
SPEAKER_00: Yes.
1:53
SPEAKER_00: Like I did I did tech run with you for it, which is how we met, and then um at Two North Town.
1:59
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, two North Down, which is the sister venue to here.
2:01
SPEAKER_01: Yes.
2:01
SPEAKER_00: And then um I saw second day in Edinburgh or something like that.
2:06
SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
2:07
SPEAKER_00: Like very early on.
2:09
SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
2:09
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
2:09
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, then you definitely saw a much different version.
2:12
SPEAKER_01: I feel like Edinburgh was really where like the changes weren't on paper so huge in terms of structure, but No, it wasn't structurally different, but like you you can feel definitely feel the difference.
2:21
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
2:22
SPEAKER_00: I would say I don't know if it was the room as well, like Yeah, yeah, yeah.
2:25
SPEAKER_01: Oh, that makes me happy.
2:26
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
2:26
SPEAKER_01: I think I think like the biggest thing that I would say, I hope we we we changed, we meeting me and and Sam, who you also know, my co-writer and director, was we like making all the jokes, like everything has a point.
2:38
SPEAKER_01: Every like word is there for a reason, and like making sure there's like a a clear through line throughout um versus just like tangents that are it's like why am I talking about this?
2:47
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
2:48
SPEAKER_00: Um Do you want to tell the listeners about the show?
2:50
SPEAKER_00: Yes.
2:50
SPEAKER_00: Sorry, yeah.
2:51
SPEAKER_00: No, no, sorry.
2:52
SPEAKER_00: Oh no, that's me.
2:53
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
2:53
SPEAKER_01: So I have a one-woman show called Fixed that I did at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival that Giannis uh helped tech when I did my first London preview in July.
3:02
SPEAKER_00: I weirdly tech'd it but didn't see it.
3:04
SPEAKER_00: Like that was like I so I I did a tech rehearsal with you.
3:07
SPEAKER_00: Right.
3:07
SPEAKER_01: And then like never and then someone else was there for the actual show.
3:11
SPEAKER_01: And then it was like it was also like we had some Q lab, something was like we had tech issues on the day.
3:17
SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
3:18
SPEAKER_01: And but it was also funny because like too north down, I mean, no shade.
3:21
SPEAKER_01: It's it was an awesome venue, but for my show, it was just like two white lights.
3:25
SPEAKER_01: Like we didn't really have many options.
3:26
SPEAKER_00: There's so there's so much lighting in your show that we need.
3:29
SPEAKER_00: That's it.
3:30
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
3:30
SPEAKER_01: But it was it was so funny that like of all the places to like run into a tech problem, it's like we don't even have we don't even do that much.
3:36
SPEAKER_01: Like it was it was so funny.
3:37
SPEAKER_00: Um But it was funny if like when I finally got to see it and saw how many lights you actually had in the show, I was like, Right.
3:43
SPEAKER_00: Oh, two knockdown.
3:45
SPEAKER_00: This would be this I wonder how that went.
3:47
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we were like truly compromising a lot.
3:49
SPEAKER_01: It actually it actually wound up looking really cute.
3:51
SPEAKER_01: Like Sam would like raise and lower to make it look flashing and like you know, do what we could.
3:56
SPEAKER_00: I've definitely done that a lot of times for other people as well.
3:59
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
4:00
SPEAKER_01: Um which created, you know, created an effect.
4:02
SPEAKER_01: Uh but yeah, so it's a it's a one-woman show that I took to the fringe um about when I was on the X Factor in America when I was 15.
4:09
SPEAKER_01: Um and essentially like the hook of it is that I auditioned for the show in a duet with my best friend, who I was in love with, but he was in the closet and I didn't know.
4:19
SPEAKER_01: And the judges loved him and hated me and just like, you know, ripped me apart, still sent us through, and then we wound up making it to the live shows.
4:28
SPEAKER_01: There's a twist in there that I won't spoil should anybody uh uh want to come see it.
4:32
SPEAKER_01: Um I love it so much.
4:35
SPEAKER_00: The story is the story's amazing.
4:37
SPEAKER_01: The story is so nuts that like so much of the writing process was like, okay, this on its own is crazy.
4:43
SPEAKER_01: How do we like weave groundedness in it and make it funny?
4:46
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
4:47
SPEAKER_00: Um But the songs, all the songs are so good as well.
4:49
SPEAKER_00: Like they stand on their own as well, even outside of like the story that you they're such they're so catchy.
4:56
SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
4:56
SPEAKER_01: That's a lot of that I I have to credit Charlie O'Connor.
4:58
SPEAKER_01: He's he's uh he's our music producer who's from London, he lives in London, um, or just outside of it.
5:03
SPEAKER_01: And uh he lives in New York, he's like a comedian, musician.
5:07
SPEAKER_01: And yeah, we would like go to Charlie with these ideas and he would just like his production, his skill set of like music is just insane.
5:14
SPEAKER_01: And so he would just take every song from like you know, piano and a melody to like a full-blown track.
5:21
SPEAKER_01: And so it's it's yeah, it's I I appreciate you saying that.
5:24
SPEAKER_00: Oh, cool.
5:24
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
5:25
SPEAKER_00: How long did you take to work on it then?
5:27
SPEAKER_01: So we started writing it like August of 2021.
5:33
SPEAKER_00: Oh, so it wasn't that long ago then.
5:35
SPEAKER_01: No.
5:36
SPEAKER_01: And then actually yesterday was one year since the very first show.
5:39
SPEAKER_00: Oh, I did see that.
5:40
SPEAKER_00: I did see your post there, yeah.
5:41
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
5:42
SPEAKER_01: So we we wrote it.
5:43
SPEAKER_01: We were supposed to do it in December of 2021, but Omicron canceled that.
5:47
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
5:47
SPEAKER_01: Um but essentially it was it was like a good like four and a half months of writing the show.
5:52
SPEAKER_01: Um and I think I think like, you know, a lot of people do work in progress or or and I was like running the material at uh my weekly show in the East Village that I run.
6:01
SPEAKER_01: And I would like do bits and pieces of it there.
6:04
SPEAKER_01: Um But I feel like a lot of it was uh like uh the footage I couldn't test on and on.
6:11
SPEAKER_01: Like I didn't have like a so much of it is a story, so it was so hard to like really run it as a work in progress, quote unquote.
6:16
SPEAKER_00: So a lot of it was just That's what I was actually thinking about when you were doing it on stage.
6:20
SPEAKER_00: I was like, I wonder how like were you just doing song and song a time or something like that?
6:25
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the songs I I only ever uh workshopped the 2011 piano song.
6:32
SPEAKER_00: Oh.
6:33
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the one that I play on piano I did.
6:35
SPEAKER_00: Um Did you workshop the character essentially?
6:39
SPEAKER_01: Um a little bit.
6:40
SPEAKER_01: Like I would do the diary, I would test the diary entries, um, but not not not really.
6:46
SPEAKER_01: I mean most mostly I was workshopping like oh a lot of the main set I would do was be like the one about the audition, and I'd play like audio clips from it instead of like the visual clips.
6:55
SPEAKER_01: And then like off of that, I'd be like, okay, now that you have that backstory, I'm gonna read you an excerpt from my diary from like and stuff like that.
7:02
SPEAKER_01: Um But it was yeah, it was hard to all the other songs we just like the first time we did them was the first time we did them at the show, and the footage was all the same thing.
7:12
SPEAKER_01: So a lot of it was just like I fucking hope this all comes together in in a correct way.
7:17
SPEAKER_01: Um but the yeah, the thing about it is that you know I'm working with a story that is factual.
7:23
SPEAKER_01: So it's like I I wasn't like following a train of thought, I was like following a real timeline.
7:27
SPEAKER_00: You knew where it was going.
7:28
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
7:28
SPEAKER_01: So I think that made it easier to kind of like, you know, not work in progress it as much.
7:32
SPEAKER_01: Nice.
7:33
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
7:33
SPEAKER_00: That's so cool.
7:34
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
7:35
SPEAKER_00: And do you uh do you think you're gonna do uh are you gonna work on something new soon, or are you gonna keep uh going with this for now?
7:42
SPEAKER_01: Aaron Ross Powell Yeah, I think I'll probably I think for this year it'll probably still be like this show.
7:46
SPEAKER_01: Like I I definitely uh do picture Edinburgh now since I I had so much funeral.
7:51
SPEAKER_00: That's what I was like curious about, because so many people like the different system of like obviously so different to what you're used to of like start doing like a yeah, in America it's like you don't do a brand new show every year, year after year.
8:05
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
8:06
SPEAKER_00: Just like just take it to Edinburgh and then that's not normal.
8:09
SPEAKER_01: No, definitely not.
8:10
SPEAKER_01: And and God bless the people who do that.
8:12
SPEAKER_01: I mean, I think maybe one day I'll maybe be able to get to that point.
8:15
SPEAKER_01: Like you know, in 20 years I'm writing a brand new hour every year.
8:19
SPEAKER_01: But um but I feel like with this show it's very much like I mean, I'm hoping to tape it ideally and and tour it a lot more and just like I think you're gonna have to tape it.
8:28
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I no matter what I I am going to film it to to have.
8:32
SPEAKER_01: Um but I definitely think like, you know, I'm I'm 26 and I don't think like in terms of like a next show, I don't I don't have a pr real perspective on the world.
8:42
SPEAKER_01: I I I have no idea what it would even be.
8:44
SPEAKER_01: And I'm totally using Annamborough in my head as a marker of like when I'm ready, I'll take it there.
8:49
SPEAKER_01: So like this year's out of the question.
8:50
SPEAKER_03: Oh, interesting.
8:51
SPEAKER_01: So like I would love to come back.
8:52
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I want to go back so much.
8:54
SPEAKER_01: So like maybe 2024 Edinburgh.
8:57
SPEAKER_01: I'll like work on a show for that.
8:58
SPEAKER_01: I but uh don't take my word on anything.
8:59
SPEAKER_01: I have no idea what I'm saying.
9:00
SPEAKER_00: You don't know where yeah, like life changes, but like Yeah, exactly.
9:03
SPEAKER_01: Um but yeah, so I'm planning on continuing to do the show until uh until I'm ready to stop.
9:08
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
9:08
SPEAKER_00: Cool.
9:08
SPEAKER_00: And I've I've been telling everyone to go watch it in March now.
9:11
SPEAKER_01: Oh, thank you.
9:12
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm like, I hope we can solve that one.
9:14
SPEAKER_01: The downstairs.
9:14
SPEAKER_01: So it's like more tickets.
9:16
SPEAKER_00: I ran into Jordan Brooks yesterday and I was telling him to go see it.
9:21
SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
9:22
SPEAKER_00: Wow.
9:22
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
9:23
SPEAKER_00: Because he was asking, he was like, oh, who um what was got what's going on tomorrow?
9:26
SPEAKER_00: And I was like, oh, I'm recording this.
9:27
SPEAKER_00: And he was he was like, Oh, I I mean to see the show, but I'm I'm not here tomorrow.
9:31
SPEAKER_00: So I can't.
9:32
SPEAKER_00: Right, right, right, right.
9:33
SPEAKER_00: I was like, well, she's back in March.
9:34
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, there have been a lot of people who are like, I'm so glad like people who are away or just you know couldn't see it, and or people who want to come back, which I'm grateful for.
9:41
SPEAKER_00: Also, I think the downstairs room at Soho will be very it's that the perfect room for you, honestly.
9:47
SPEAKER_01: Everybody's been saying that.
9:48
SPEAKER_00: I'm so it really is the perfect room for you.
9:50
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
9:50
SPEAKER_01: I think it it feels very like raucous and loud in there.
9:53
SPEAKER_00: I've seen a lot of like well, I saw Kat Kat Cohen down there as well.
9:57
SPEAKER_00: So it's like it's perfect for like musical comedy.
9:59
SPEAKER_01: Okay, good.
10:00
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
10:00
SPEAKER_01: And her too.
10:01
SPEAKER_01: I mean her cabaret stuff is like that's like perfect room for it.
10:04
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
10:04
SPEAKER_01: That's awesome.
10:05
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
10:06
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
10:07
SPEAKER_00: Uh what else are you up to?
10:08
SPEAKER_00: Uh have you been up to while you're here?
10:09
SPEAKER_00: Like you've been up to anything else or you've been you know, I wish I could say I have.
10:14
SPEAKER_01: Sam and I Sam is with me here.
10:16
SPEAKER_01: Um and the like Edinburgh was kind of the same in the sense of like we were heads down 75% of the time.
10:22
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I barely saw you out.
10:23
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, and I didn't know.
10:24
SPEAKER_00: Until like the last week, maybe?
10:27
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I was yeah, I would I would go out and I would like drink coffee, like to to to keep the energy up.
10:32
SPEAKER_01: Um but uh yeah, I well also because my voice and the show.
10:37
SPEAKER_00: That's the other thing.
10:37
SPEAKER_00: You you've got to be very careful.
10:39
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I do, which sucks.
10:40
SPEAKER_01: And and the show, not even just my voice, but like it's so physically demanding of my body.
10:45
SPEAKER_01: Like I I remember leaving Edinburgh and I looked like muscular in a way that like I don't know if I even liked.
10:52
SPEAKER_01: Like it was I was so it was so clear that I was tone.
10:55
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like like doing an athletic show in these like blue boots every single night and like walking all over.
11:01
SPEAKER_01: Some of those dances.
11:02
SPEAKER_01: Like my God.
11:03
SPEAKER_01: I mean, I never even took that into account when I was like thinking about doing the show every night.
11:07
SPEAKER_01: And then I mean, same with here.
11:08
SPEAKER_01: Like this has been, you know, tonight will be show nine of nine of this uh run.
11:13
SPEAKER_01: And it's like I've like I've slept like a rock and like I need my rest and I'm drinking.
11:18
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
11:18
SPEAKER_01: And I haven't drank really this whole time I've been here.
11:21
SPEAKER_01: And it's like it's yeah, it that the one bummer is that I I feel like I can't really I like my next trip, I'll I'll tack a couple days on to the end because I can't really like go out and like hang out in the way that I want to.
11:34
SPEAKER_01: So like while I've been here, yeah, we've kind of just been like working on the show and like going out to eat.
11:39
SPEAKER_01: I've been doing a lot of eating, and that's that's that's my favorite uh form of participating in a city.
11:44
SPEAKER_01: But um other than that, yeah, that's really it.
11:46
SPEAKER_00: Any recommendations for London food?
11:48
SPEAKER_01: I I'm sure, I'm sure this is not I've been hanging out mostly in Soho and and and my Airbnb, but um I we we ate at this place called Bao on Lexington, I think.
11:58
SPEAKER_01: In Soho.
11:59
SPEAKER_01: Lexington Street or something.
12:00
SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
12:01
SPEAKER_00: I I'm really bad with street names, but like I know Bao.
12:04
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's right past yeah, it's right by the theater.
12:06
SPEAKER_01: And it was amazing.
12:07
SPEAKER_01: It was so, so good.
12:09
SPEAKER_01: Like like hands I we like kept ordering, which is like unbelievably delicious food.
12:14
SPEAKER_00: Um Yeah, you're like right next to Chinatown as well.
12:17
SPEAKER_00: So like Yeah.
12:18
SPEAKER_00: But that's such a good food.
12:20
SPEAKER_01: So good.
12:20
SPEAKER_01: We yeah, we had we had some food there too when we first got in.
12:23
SPEAKER_01: And yeah, I mean the food here is like especially like Asian food and the Indian food here.
12:27
SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, yeah.
12:28
SPEAKER_01: Unbelievable.
12:29
SPEAKER_01: Like I don't think I've eaten any co I've eaten like maybe Italian one night, but every night we've been eating, you know, like Thai or Indian or Chinese food.
12:36
SPEAKER_00: Indian food here is amazing.
12:38
SPEAKER_00: So good.
12:38
SPEAKER_01: So so good.
12:39
SPEAKER_01: We already we're gonna get Indian food tonight before the show is our last week.
12:43
SPEAKER_00: Where are you going tonight?
12:44
SPEAKER_01: There's this place that we ate at in King's Cross called Yachtri.
12:47
SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay.
12:48
SPEAKER_01: Um, that we like ate at uh when we were in London before Edinburgh, and so like we want to like sentimentally, we're like, we should go there tonight.
12:55
SPEAKER_00: And it was really, really good.
12:56
SPEAKER_00: So weirdly, I've never been there.
12:57
SPEAKER_01: Like, yeah, it was like not.
12:59
SPEAKER_01: It was like the a nicely rated one nearby.
13:02
SPEAKER_01: And so we went there, but it was actually really good.
13:04
SPEAKER_01: So hopefully it holds up tonight.
13:07
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
13:08
SPEAKER_00: Cool.
13:09
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
13:09
SPEAKER_00: Um okay.
13:10
SPEAKER_00: So let's talk about uh what you've come on to talk about, which is the movie Just Go With It.
13:16
SPEAKER_02: Correct.
13:17
SPEAKER_00: Um I was kind of surprised that you picked it, to be honest.
13:20
SPEAKER_00: Really?
13:20
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
13:22
SPEAKER_00: It would just seem like a left field choice.
13:24
SPEAKER_00: Like I wasn't really expecting anyone to pick it.
13:27
SPEAKER_01: Really?
13:27
SPEAKER_01: What were you expecting me to pick?
13:29
SPEAKER_00: I was expecting you to pick a comedy.
13:31
SPEAKER_01: It is a comedy.
13:32
SPEAKER_00: I know, I'm saying I was expecting a comedy, but I wasn't expecting I don't know.
13:36
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
13:37
SPEAKER_00: I w I guess I wasn't expecting a rom com.
13:39
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no.
13:40
SPEAKER_01: I'm a rom com I grew up on him, stand by him to this day.
13:44
SPEAKER_00: But I also got I also didn't think about the fact that you would have been like a young teen when this came out.
13:49
SPEAKER_01: Yes.
13:49
SPEAKER_01: What year did it come out?
13:50
SPEAKER_00: 2011.
13:51
SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, that's so funny.
13:53
SPEAKER_01: That's like the year I was on X Factor.
13:55
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
13:55
SPEAKER_00: Oh!
13:55
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
13:56
SPEAKER_01: That's crazy.
13:57
SPEAKER_01: I didn't realize that.
13:58
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
13:58
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
13:59
SPEAKER_00: So were you 15 then?
14:00
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
14:01
SPEAKER_01: I guess I was.
14:02
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
14:02
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I was 15.
14:04
SPEAKER_00: Wow.
14:04
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
14:05
SPEAKER_01: That's so weird.
14:06
SPEAKER_01: I didn't even mean to to think that.
14:07
SPEAKER_00: No, no, that's like I w I wasn't even I just thought didn't think about it.
14:11
SPEAKER_00: But then like the fact that like I'd never seen it.
14:15
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
14:15
SPEAKER_00: Um And you watched it?
14:17
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I did watch it.
14:18
SPEAKER_01: What'd you think?
14:20
SPEAKER_00: It was fine.
14:21
SPEAKER_01: Well, that's the thing.
14:22
SPEAKER_01: Like if you watch it, like I do you know the movie She's the Man?
14:25
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, of course.
14:26
SPEAKER_01: Okay.
14:26
SPEAKER_01: So I like for some reason never saw that as a kid.
14:29
SPEAKER_01: And I watched it like in college.
14:32
SPEAKER_01: My friends would quote it all the time.
14:34
SPEAKER_01: And I watched it and I was like, this is so corny.
14:36
SPEAKER_01: But it's like, oh, but if I would have watched it at the right age when it came out, of course it would mean something to me.
14:41
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
14:41
SPEAKER_01: So I wonder if that's how you feel about just go with it.
14:44
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
14:44
SPEAKER_00: I was in my early twenties when it came out, so at the time might have been it might have been the same.
14:52
SPEAKER_00: I was like just leaving university.
14:55
SPEAKER_01: Right.
14:55
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
14:56
SPEAKER_01: So maybe you wouldn't have loved it.
14:58
SPEAKER_01: I the reason I picked this one was because I went to when I got to college, um, I was like hanging out with like new friends, and like we were all saying our favorite movies, and I said just go with it.
15:09
SPEAKER_01: And I got like roasted.
15:11
SPEAKER_01: Like everybody was like, What?
15:13
SPEAKER_01: Adam Sandler?
15:14
SPEAKER_01: And like I remember feeling so stupid and like, oh my god, I'm really like so out of touch.
15:18
SPEAKER_01: Like, clearly I don't know any good movies.
15:20
SPEAKER_01: But like to this day, I still stand by it.
15:22
SPEAKER_01: I it's like one of my favorite movies ever.
15:24
SPEAKER_00: It's one of your favorite movies.
15:25
SPEAKER_01: It's one of my favorite movies.
15:26
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
15:26
SPEAKER_01: I love that movie so much.
15:28
SPEAKER_00: Well, I'll tell you what.
15:29
SPEAKER_00: Well, do you know do you know the ratings?
15:30
SPEAKER_00: Well, I guess you do because you like 19%?
15:33
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
15:34
SPEAKER_00: 19% from the critics.
15:36
SPEAKER_00: But the audience is 59.
15:38
SPEAKER_01: Wow.
15:39
SPEAKER_00: So it's a lot higher from the audience.
15:40
SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah.
15:41
SPEAKER_01: Adam Sandler has this whole thing where it's like Rotten Tomatoes has just like, you know, com completely bashed him over the years.
15:46
SPEAKER_00: They do not like him.
15:48
SPEAKER_00: No.
15:48
SPEAKER_01: And it that's one of the things.
15:49
SPEAKER_00: As you'll discover when we play that game later.
15:51
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm sure.
15:52
SPEAKER_01: I yeah, yeah.
15:53
SPEAKER_01: Um But yeah, so when you asked me, I was like, oh, I bet like all the like and I bet just go with it.
15:58
SPEAKER_01: It's like on that list.
15:59
SPEAKER_01: And sure enough.
16:00
SPEAKER_00: Did I have it on the actual list or did you just find it?
16:02
SPEAKER_01: No, I looked it up because I was like, in my head, I was like, I bet that's like considered a bad movie still.
16:07
SPEAKER_01: And I like went and I was like, yeah, I guess it is.
16:09
SPEAKER_00: I thought it was going to be higher than 19.
16:11
SPEAKER_01: 19 is brutal.
16:13
SPEAKER_01: It's very low.
16:14
SPEAKER_01: Adam Sandler and Jennifer Anison.
16:15
SPEAKER_01: And there's like some s like and Matthews and like Yeah, I have thoughts about that.
16:20
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
16:21
SPEAKER_01: But it's it's so it's so sweet.
16:23
SPEAKER_01: It's such I'm sorry.
16:24
SPEAKER_01: I could go on and on.
16:25
SPEAKER_01: I think it's great.
16:26
SPEAKER_00: I do I really like both of them.
16:28
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
16:29
SPEAKER_00: I think they're both like really nice in this movie.
16:32
SPEAKER_00: I I I really enjoy I think they've got a great chemistry in this movie.
16:35
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they totally they always have.
16:37
SPEAKER_01: They uh murder mystery, like they're they're amazing together.
16:40
SPEAKER_01: They're great.
16:40
SPEAKER_01: But that's recent.
16:41
SPEAKER_01: That one's recent and it's like an action comedy.
16:43
SPEAKER_00: There's another one coming out as well, though.
16:44
SPEAKER_01: I know they just rapped.
16:45
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I can't wait.
16:46
SPEAKER_01: You bet up your bottom dollar, I'll be in that theater ready to watch it.
16:51
SPEAKER_00: Um what's your kind of history with Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston then?
16:56
SPEAKER_00: Do you have like um did you grow up?
16:58
SPEAKER_00: I guess you must have grown up on them.
16:59
SPEAKER_00: Everyone did, really.
17:00
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
17:00
SPEAKER_01: Jennifer Anderson is like, I mean, if you ask anybody who's ever known me and they're like, what if they if they know I don't know where I'm going with this.
17:08
SPEAKER_01: I have been obsessed with Jennifer Anderson since I was like like ever can remember knowing actresses.
17:13
SPEAKER_01: Like I grew up on friends, always loved her, always thought she was perfect, wanted to marry her, wanted to be her, wanted to, you know, just I I just think she's amazing.
17:21
SPEAKER_01: If I ever meet her, that'll be like my life will be made.
17:25
SPEAKER_01: I hopefully.
17:26
SPEAKER_01: I she I just think she's like so perfect and awesome.
17:29
SPEAKER_01: And so yes, I grew up loving her, loving, loving her and friends and everything.
17:33
SPEAKER_01: And Adam Sandler, I think, is like one of the funniest comedians of all time.
17:36
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
17:36
SPEAKER_01: Always have.
17:37
SPEAKER_01: And so yeah, I I guess I guess I'm biased in the sense that they are the two stars of this movie that I picked.
17:43
SPEAKER_01: That I also really love.
17:44
SPEAKER_01: Um yeah.
17:47
SPEAKER_00: Are they um what was I gonna say?
17:49
SPEAKER_00: Oh, did you do you have a favorite movie of his then?
17:52
SPEAKER_00: Is it is this it?
17:55
SPEAKER_01: Um, I guess I would say this is it, just because I yeah, yeah, let's say this is it.
18:00
SPEAKER_01: Although they're all amazing.
18:02
SPEAKER_01: I think they're all great.
18:02
SPEAKER_01: And I think that's a great idea.
18:03
SPEAKER_00: Oh, you like you like all of them.
18:04
SPEAKER_01: I like a lot of his movies, yeah.
18:06
SPEAKER_01: I I feel like I feel like there was an era where it was like really uh cringy to like his movies, and I think we've moved out of that now.
18:15
SPEAKER_01: And he recognizes that they're he's like amazing.
18:18
SPEAKER_00: I think Uncut Gems helped a lot.
18:20
SPEAKER_00: Uncut gems is sick.
18:21
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
18:22
SPEAKER_00: Uncut gems is.
18:23
SPEAKER_00: Because it's completely a completely different style, but like Yeah, yeah, yeah.
18:26
SPEAKER_01: Um but he's I mean he's he's a man.
18:29
SPEAKER_01: He's great.
18:30
SPEAKER_00: Like I I just remember watching like Happy Gilmore and Benny Madison and all that and and Big Daddy growing up.
18:37
SPEAKER_00: And those were the ones I was obsessed with.
18:39
SPEAKER_00: Right.
18:39
SPEAKER_00: And then I I was like a teen when like Little Nikki came out and like Grown Ups.
18:45
SPEAKER_00: Grown ups I was too old for Okay, gotcha.
18:47
SPEAKER_00: So grown-ups I was this was that was like just before this.
18:52
SPEAKER_00: So I was like 20, maybe 20 at the time.
18:54
SPEAKER_00: Okay.
18:55
SPEAKER_01: And like Not for real?
18:56
SPEAKER_00: No.
18:57
SPEAKER_00: I just remember seeing the trailer and being like, that's not for me.
19:00
SPEAKER_01: That's so funny.
19:01
SPEAKER_00: But then um someone came on the podcast and talked about grown-ups too defending that.
19:05
SPEAKER_00: Okay.
19:06
SPEAKER_00: So I had to watch that for the first time, having never seen grown-ups.
19:09
SPEAKER_00: That's great.
19:10
SPEAKER_00: So that was quite an interesting experience.
19:12
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
19:13
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
19:14
SPEAKER_00: But I didn't hate it.
19:15
SPEAKER_02: No.
19:16
SPEAKER_02: No, they're sweet movies.
19:17
SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
19:18
SPEAKER_02: But that was fine.
19:18
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
19:19
SPEAKER_00: It's like it's him and his friends, you know.
19:21
SPEAKER_00: Like that's most what most of these are.
19:23
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
19:23
SPEAKER_01: Most good movies when when people are friends in real life, it reads in a movie.
19:27
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
19:27
SPEAKER_00: I I read that uh Adam Sandler and Jennifer Anderson had been friends for like 20 years before they did this movie.
19:33
SPEAKER_01: That yeah, that wouldn't surprise me.
19:35
SPEAKER_00: So they knew each other, they've known each other since like the early 90s.
19:38
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
19:38
SPEAKER_01: Well, she was supposed to be on SNL.
19:39
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's what I read as well.
19:42
SPEAKER_00: He was trying to get her on it.
19:43
SPEAKER_00: He was the one trying to get her on it while he was on it.
19:45
SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
19:46
SPEAKER_00: So that's like about that's when they knew each other.
19:48
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
19:48
SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
19:49
SPEAKER_00: So that's really interesting that she turned SNL down for friends.
19:52
SPEAKER_00: Because that's a big risk knowing knowing like SN SNL at the time would have been huge.
19:59
SPEAKER_00: That period as well was like such a big period for her.
20:02
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
20:02
SPEAKER_00: And then uh her friends would have been like obviously nobody knew what it was at the time.
20:07
SPEAKER_01: Right, yeah, no.
20:08
SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, I would actually love I I I'm sure she talks in an interview about that decision.
20:12
SPEAKER_01: Um but I remember all of them have been doing like pilots that kept getting cancelled.
20:17
SPEAKER_01: And like so, yeah, it could have easily been another one.
20:20
SPEAKER_01: It was called like friends like us, and easily could have been cancelled.
20:23
SPEAKER_01: But then it became she became like the most iconic lady in America.
20:27
SPEAKER_00: And you're your absolute hero.
20:29
SPEAKER_01: Yes, my little hero.
20:32
SPEAKER_00: Uh so let's let's talk about the plot of this then.
20:36
SPEAKER_00: Do you wanna do you are you able to give a brief synopsis of it?
20:39
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think I could do it justice.
20:41
SPEAKER_01: So Adam Sandler is a plastic surgeon.
20:43
SPEAKER_00: He is, yeah.
20:44
SPEAKER_01: The movie opens where his wife is openly admitting uh the his wife he's about to marry, who's played by his actual wife.
20:51
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
20:52
SPEAKER_01: She always plays a part in his movies.
20:54
SPEAKER_01: She is he overhears her talking to his bridesmaids that um she's like can't she's sleeping with someone else and like he's got a lot of money, but his nose is so ugly.
21:03
SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
21:04
SPEAKER_01: And so then they uh obviously it breaks it off and he gets a plastic surgery and becomes a plastic surgeon.
21:10
SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
21:11
SPEAKER_01: And then um and then so then it flash forward to years later, he's and he's this guy who like always wears his wedding ring at a bar and like acts like his wife just cheated on him, which did happen to him, but he keeps using it over and over to sleep with these like young, beautiful women.
21:25
SPEAKER_01: And then he meets one that he really, really likes and she sees the wedding ring, but he really likes her, and so he like makes up to this whole elaborate lie of like, no, but we're getting divorced, and she's like, Okay, fine, I want to meet her.
21:36
SPEAKER_01: Cut to Jennifer Anderson, his trusty assistant, who is divorced and has these two kids.
21:41
SPEAKER_01: Um, like he brings her into this lie, and it becomes so elaborate that like they wind up having to go on vacation to Hawaii because her kids are like conning him because they know that he like he needs them all to participate in this big lie, and so they're all like getting what they can out of him.
21:56
SPEAKER_01: They all go to Hawaii on this big trip with like the ex and then her husband and His cousin, like he goes his name's Dolph Lungren.
22:03
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
22:04
SPEAKER_00: Nick Smortson.
22:05
SPEAKER_01: Yes, yes, yes.
22:06
SPEAKER_01: And uh and yeah, it's like this whole big destination vacation wedding, and everybody like has some like everybody's lying for other reasons.
22:12
SPEAKER_00: There's so much so much lying in this.
22:14
SPEAKER_01: So much lying going on.
22:15
SPEAKER_01: It's Nicole Kidman, right?
22:16
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
22:17
SPEAKER_01: Nicole Kidman and Dave Matthews play like she plays like Jennifer Anderson's old college like sorority bully.
22:23
SPEAKER_01: And so then she needs Adam Sandler, Jennifer needs Adam Sandler to lie for them to go.
22:27
SPEAKER_01: So there's all these like lies.
22:29
SPEAKER_01: And then lo and behold, it turns out Adam Sandler and Jennifer Anderson, who have known each other for years in the movie, start to fall in love with each other.
22:38
SPEAKER_01: And then by the end of the movie.
22:40
SPEAKER_01: Yes.
22:40
SPEAKER_01: And then uh he winds up breaking it off with uh uh or actually the the wife is like, she's like, you're clearly still in love with your ex-wife, and it's like, well, she's not my ex-wife, she's my assistant.
22:51
SPEAKER_01: And happily ever after they get together.
22:53
SPEAKER_01: And it's really sweet.
22:54
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, nice.
22:55
SPEAKER_00: And it's my favorite movie, I guess.
22:57
SPEAKER_00: How many times have you seen it, do you think?
22:59
SPEAKER_01: Um, not that many.
23:01
SPEAKER_01: I'm not I'm not a movie repeater, except there was one time when I was a kid where my brother and I we spent an entire day watching bench warmers back to back.
23:07
SPEAKER_00: Like, Benchwarmers! Yeah, we oh, I forgot about that movie.
23:10
SPEAKER_01: We literally spent a full day just like start, stop, and then just back to the beginning play in my family room.
23:16
SPEAKER_00: I almost put that in this game.
23:18
SPEAKER_00: Oh, really?
23:19
SPEAKER_00: Bench warmers?
23:19
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I almost put that in the game, but I just could I didn't put it in the end.
23:22
SPEAKER_01: Is it like low-rated?
23:24
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
23:24
SPEAKER_01: No.
23:25
SPEAKER_01: Benchwarmers?
23:27
SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
23:28
SPEAKER_01: That to me is like such like that is so such a good movie.
23:31
SPEAKER_01: Fuck.
23:32
SPEAKER_01: That's crazy.
23:33
SPEAKER_01: Um what was I saying?
23:38
SPEAKER_00: Uh You're talking about um The movie.
23:42
SPEAKER_01: Um probably like honestly, like six, five, like not that many.
23:47
SPEAKER_01: I just like loved it.
23:49
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
23:49
SPEAKER_01: I actually did watch it recently.
23:51
SPEAKER_01: I watched it last summer.
23:52
SPEAKER_00: Oh, nice.
23:53
SPEAKER_01: Um That's why I'm pretty fr.
23:56
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
23:56
SPEAKER_01: I feel like watching a movie in the past year is like, oh, I just saw that.
23:59
SPEAKER_00: Um But yeah, are you like a one one and done?
24:03
SPEAKER_01: I just don't re like yeah, and I'm the same I I don't think I should be that unless it's like, you know, I'll watch, I'll rewatch Pixar movies all the time.
24:10
SPEAKER_01: Like and uh Christmas movies, obviously.
24:15
SPEAKER_01: But I uh and like stand-up specials I'll rewatch naturally.
24:19
SPEAKER_01: But um other other things.
24:20
SPEAKER_00: I find stand-up specials hard to rewatch.
24:22
SPEAKER_00: Really?
24:22
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
24:23
SPEAKER_00: Like in like not in person I can go and re-watch them, but like weirdly like on TV, I find it.
24:29
SPEAKER_01: See, I like the rewatch because I know what's coming and I can watch what they're doing.
24:34
SPEAKER_01: I can like like look to see how they're getting away with those like segues and like and and making things look natural.
24:40
SPEAKER_00: Um it's weird.
24:42
SPEAKER_00: I can do that in person.
24:43
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
24:45
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there's something about the recorded nature of it, I guess that's a little bit.
24:49
SPEAKER_00: I detach myself from it too much, I think.
24:51
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
24:52
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
24:54
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
24:54
SPEAKER_01: But I I I wish I watched movies.
24:56
SPEAKER_01: And same with books.
24:57
SPEAKER_01: Like once I read it, like a friend of mine was just saying how often she rereads books.
25:01
SPEAKER_00: Oh, I can't reread books either, yeah.
25:02
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
25:03
SPEAKER_01: It's like, well, I read it already.
25:04
SPEAKER_01: Why would I read why like I'm trying to read as many books in my lifetime as I can.
25:07
SPEAKER_01: Like, why would I like waste two weeks of my life reading things I already read?
25:11
SPEAKER_01: Books take time.
25:12
SPEAKER_00: I I'm with you on books there, but it's like weirdly, I'll I'll re-watch movies and TV shows all the time.
25:17
SPEAKER_01: I think you're I think you're normal for that.
25:18
SPEAKER_01: I think I'm the strange one that doesn't like re-watch anything.
25:21
SPEAKER_01: Or TV shows like yeah, like Veep and like honestly, friends, sometimes I fall asleep too.
25:26
SPEAKER_00: And um 30 Rock.
25:28
SPEAKER_01: I mean, like yeah, I rewatch shows all the time.
25:30
SPEAKER_01: But movies, not as much.
25:32
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
25:33
SPEAKER_00: That makes sense.
25:34
SPEAKER_00: Like all of those make sense for you as well, though.
25:36
SPEAKER_00: Like that tracks with your com that tracks with your comedy style.
25:38
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yes, it does.
25:40
SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
25:40
SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
25:41
SPEAKER_00: Um Yeah.
25:43
SPEAKER_00: So uh you were so you grew up, you were a fan of both of them.
25:46
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
25:47
SPEAKER_00: I like how you you knew it was Dave Matthews, but you weren't sure it was Nicole Kidman.
25:51
SPEAKER_01: No, I knew it was, but I was like, I don't want to be wrong about that.
25:53
SPEAKER_01: Well, Dave Matthews, I because I all I can think of is his line in the movie where he's like, Don't pour over me.
25:57
SPEAKER_01: Don't pour over me.
25:58
SPEAKER_00: It's so weird in this movie.
25:59
SPEAKER_01: He is so but it's so like you could just never forget it.
26:02
SPEAKER_01: And then you of course you're you're like, oh, it's Dave Matthews.
26:04
SPEAKER_00: But here's one thing I'll tell you about Dave Matthews.
26:07
SPEAKER_00: He's not big here in the slightest.
26:09
SPEAKER_00: People do not know him.
26:10
SPEAKER_00: Oh, really?
26:11
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Dave Matthews band is not big here.
26:13
SPEAKER_01: So like that doesn't really surprise me.
26:15
SPEAKER_00: So it's really weird.
26:16
SPEAKER_00: So the very first time I was like ever aware of him was I went to I worked at a summer camp in America.
26:22
SPEAKER_02: Okay.
26:23
SPEAKER_00: And they were all all the kids there were like, oh, we're all going to see Dave Matthews tonight and everything.
26:27
SPEAKER_00: I was like, who's Dave Matthews?
26:28
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
26:28
SPEAKER_00: And they were like, you don't know who Dave Matthews is.
26:30
SPEAKER_00: Like none of like all the British people there did not know who he was.
26:33
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
26:34
SPEAKER_00: It was really weird.
26:35
SPEAKER_01: That is weird.
26:36
SPEAKER_00: And then I I became aware of like one song.
26:39
SPEAKER_01: You know what though?
26:40
SPEAKER_01: I feel like a lot of people in America don't either like like he's not mainstream.
26:44
SPEAKER_01: Oh really?
26:45
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
26:46
SPEAKER_01: Like I only I actually only found out who he was because it was like a like I feel like a it was a joke in college of like a stereotypical dude who's Steve Matthews.
26:54
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
26:55
SPEAKER_01: Trevor Burrus, Jr.
26:55
SPEAKER_00: That's that's how I became aware.
26:56
SPEAKER_00: And then I became seeing it in T like as a joke in TV shows.
26:59
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's like a punchline.
27:01
SPEAKER_01: Um so yeah, I don't I don't think that's that strange.
27:04
SPEAKER_01: I barely know his music at all.
27:06
SPEAKER_01: I just I know him from just go with it.
27:09
SPEAKER_00: I know that, and then I know like there's a there's a joke thing in community with the song, like one of his songs.
27:13
SPEAKER_00: Oh.
27:14
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
27:15
SPEAKER_00: Um they just like everyone's obsessed with like one song or something.
27:18
SPEAKER_00: Just keep playing it over and over.
27:20
SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
27:20
SPEAKER_00: It was just uh but I couldn't even tell you what it's called.
27:23
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
27:24
SPEAKER_00: Um Yeah, so that that's the that's kind of like who else is in it then?
27:28
SPEAKER_00: There's uh Nick Swordson and Brooklyn Decker is the the girl he wants to be with.
27:35
SPEAKER_01: Yes.
27:36
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
27:37
SPEAKER_01: Um Which I will the the one thing if I'm gonna criticize the movie is naturally it's a little dated in terms of like realisticness.
27:44
SPEAKER_01: Yes.
27:45
SPEAKER_00: How old is she supposed to be?
27:47
SPEAKER_01: Because I swear Yeah, that's a good question.
27:50
SPEAKER_00: I think she's I think she's younger than you.
27:53
SPEAKER_01: No.
27:53
SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, but maybe oh my god, if she's meant to be younger than twenty-six, that's crazy.
27:57
SPEAKER_01: I think she is.
27:58
SPEAKER_01: She looks 30 in the movie.
28:01
SPEAKER_01: How old was she when she played that role?
28:03
SPEAKER_00: So let me see.
28:04
SPEAKER_01: To me, she looks like what 30 should look like.
28:06
SPEAKER_00: You think she looks 30?
28:07
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
28:07
SPEAKER_00: I don't think she looks 30.
28:08
SPEAKER_01: You don't think she looks 30?
28:09
SPEAKER_00: No.
28:10
SPEAKER_01: What how old do you think she looks?
28:12
SPEAKER_00: My early twenties.
28:13
SPEAKER_00: You do?
28:14
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
28:15
SPEAKER_01: No.
28:15
SPEAKER_00: Well So she was born in 87, so that would make her 24 in the movie.
28:22
SPEAKER_01: She was 24 in the movie.
28:23
SPEAKER_00: Twenty-four.
28:24
SPEAKER_01: She looks like like to me, she looked like like uh she could be like a MILF.
28:30
SPEAKER_01: That's crazy.
28:31
SPEAKER_00: I didn't think I thought she looked really young.
28:33
SPEAKER_00: Really?
28:34
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
28:35
SPEAKER_01: Wait, show me a picture, pop up a picture.
28:37
SPEAKER_00: I now I feel like I'm also thinking like this might be a new newer picture of her.
28:42
SPEAKER_01: I feel like when I when you watch a movie, like when I watched the movie, I was, I guess, 15 for the first time.
28:47
SPEAKER_01: So to me, she looked.
28:49
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's a that's that's that's an older picture.
28:51
SPEAKER_00: That's a newer picture, isn't it?
28:53
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
28:54
SPEAKER_01: Wow.
28:56
SPEAKER_01: So she was 24, probably 23 when she filmed it.
28:59
SPEAKER_00: That's crazy.
29:00
SPEAKER_00: Also low her lowest-rated movie.
29:02
SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
29:03
SPEAKER_01: That's so funny.
29:05
SPEAKER_00: But yeah, she so she she's doesn't have a whole lot to do in this movie.
29:10
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
29:10
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
29:11
SPEAKER_01: She's she's kind of straight manning the whole time.
29:13
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
29:13
SPEAKER_00: I like I they do it's very much like the There's a lot of that in the Adam Sandler movies of like that one character.
29:21
SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
29:21
SPEAKER_00: Like he tends to have that character who doesn't have a lot to do, but it's just there.
29:25
SPEAKER_00: To like kind of l lead them along.
29:28
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, totally.
29:29
SPEAKER_00: Um But so I kind of felt bad for her, but like she's she's fine in the movie.
29:34
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
29:34
SPEAKER_00: Um I thought Nicole Kidman was funny.
29:37
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so funny.
29:38
SPEAKER_01: She's so great.
29:39
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
29:40
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
29:40
SPEAKER_00: I'm not I'm not usually a huge Nicole Kidman fan, but I liked her in this.
29:43
SPEAKER_01: I love I love the humor of like being a like a wim like a woman being like so mean.
29:50
SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
29:51
SPEAKER_03: It's very funny.
29:52
SPEAKER_01: It's so funny.
29:53
SPEAKER_01: Like in the pride raises that.
29:56
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, she just having I like mean humor, like coming from like a gorgeous woman, is just like, oh, that is so ripe for me.
30:04
SPEAKER_01: I love that so much.
30:05
SPEAKER_01: Like so good.
30:07
SPEAKER_00: It's great.
30:08
SPEAKER_00: And then uh yeah, and then there's obviously Dave Matthews, which again, I have no idea why he's in this movie, but he is.
30:15
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't know why he got cast either.
30:16
SPEAKER_01: I'm sure there's a story behind that.
30:18
SPEAKER_00: And then uh Yeah.
30:20
SPEAKER_00: Jackie Sandler's his wife, who is like the woman he's supposed to marry.
30:24
SPEAKER_00: And uh who else?
30:26
SPEAKER_00: Rachel Dratch?
30:27
SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, she has a scene in there.
30:29
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, she's got a scene in it, and Nick Swartzon.
30:31
SPEAKER_00: That's pretty much it.
30:32
SPEAKER_00: And then apart from the kids who Yeah, um they are Yeah, so let's kind of like talk it through then.
30:40
SPEAKER_00: So like it o it opens again, you said it was opens as you said, it opens in Long Island 1988.
30:46
SPEAKER_00: So it opens.
30:47
SPEAKER_00: He's uh about to get married, which also like shows how uh much older he is.
30:53
SPEAKER_02: Right, right, right.
30:54
SPEAKER_00: Um he's about to get married to this girl, Verucca, she's called.
30:59
SPEAKER_01: Oh.
30:59
SPEAKER_00: And which I wrote down because I'm like Veruca.
31:02
SPEAKER_01: Verucca, that's funny.
31:03
SPEAKER_00: But also like there's a thing in Adam Sandler movies, I don't know if you've ever noticed this, there's always um a love interest with the name with starts with the letter V.
31:11
SPEAKER_00: So I think they've just run out of names at this point.
31:14
SPEAKER_02: I did not know that.
31:15
SPEAKER_00: I read that like very early on in like no started noticing it in all of his movies.
31:19
SPEAKER_01: Oh, I wonder why.
31:20
SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
31:21
SPEAKER_00: I think it's just this like little Easter egg that he puts in.
31:24
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
31:24
SPEAKER_01: Maybe his mom's name begins with a V.
31:26
SPEAKER_00: Maybe.
31:27
SPEAKER_00: But he started like so now I think they've just run out of names and now it's down to Varuka.
31:31
SPEAKER_00: Varuka, like Willie Wonka.
31:32
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
31:33
SPEAKER_00: That's funny.
31:34
SPEAKER_00: But he's got um he's got a huge nose and he's getting made fun of for it.
31:39
SPEAKER_00: Yep.
31:40
SPEAKER_00: And is that why she doesn't want to marry him?
31:42
SPEAKER_00: Um Or is it just she doesn't want to marry him in general?
31:45
SPEAKER_01: Well, she just wanna marry him in general, and then she likes like makes a comment about his nose.
31:49
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
31:50
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
31:51
SPEAKER_00: Um and then he uh he starts crying.
31:55
SPEAKER_00: And sad.
31:58
SPEAKER_01: Really sad.
32:00
SPEAKER_00: I can't believe that nose though.
32:02
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
32:02
SPEAKER_01: No, the like the prosthetic.
32:05
SPEAKER_00: I feel borderline offensive.
32:06
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean if he wasn't Jewish, I think it would it would be it would definitely be offensive.
32:11
SPEAKER_00: Um But then he like so he runs away, he runs to a bar and he's sitting down, and um I wrote down that it's Leighton Mista, but I'm looking here and it looks like it was Minka Kelly, not Leighton Mister.
32:22
SPEAKER_03: Oh.
32:23
SPEAKER_00: That um that comes up to him and starts like No, he's talking to someone next to him.
32:28
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
32:28
SPEAKER_01: He's talking to a girl and Oh right, right, right.
32:30
SPEAKER_01: And that's when it like works for the first time.
32:32
SPEAKER_00: And he he talks about how he's um he's upset with the his wife and everything, and then he and then she says, like, oh, do you want to leave with me?
32:40
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
32:41
SPEAKER_00: And uh then he continues to lie over the years.
32:44
SPEAKER_00: Yep.
32:44
SPEAKER_00: He gets surgery on his face, fixes his nose.
32:47
SPEAKER_00: Um and then it cuts to the modern day where he's like with uh he's working in plastic surgery and he's um Jennifer Anderson as his assistant.
32:56
SPEAKER_00: And then like they're working on Rachel Dratch, you see, and she's got one eyebrow higher than the other.
33:04
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
33:07
SPEAKER_00: And that it feels like It feels like they're just breaking in the scene.
33:12
SPEAKER_00: They're just laughing the entire thing.
33:13
SPEAKER_00: Like they're actually laughing.
33:14
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
33:14
SPEAKER_00: And just having fun with fun with it.
33:17
SPEAKER_00: That's something that they do a lot in another that's another thing they do a lot in Adam Sandler films, is they kind of leave that in.
33:22
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
33:22
SPEAKER_01: And they have fun with that.
33:24
SPEAKER_01: Which I kind of like, actually.
33:25
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think it's great.
33:26
SPEAKER_00: It's like because it it it doesn't take you out of the movie.
33:29
SPEAKER_00: No.
33:29
SPEAKER_00: It's like it kind of it it almost feels like you're it makes you part of it, I feel like.
33:34
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it makes you feel like the characters really know and love each other in real life.
33:37
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
33:38
SPEAKER_00: Because they I I like when they do that in they used to do that in like um there was a TV show they used to do that in as well.
33:46
SPEAKER_00: Where they would like like keep the laughs in.
33:48
SPEAKER_00: I can't remember what it was.
33:50
SPEAKER_01: But it was Like a like a non-multicam?
33:54
SPEAKER_01: Like a single cam show that's like.
33:56
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they would keep like they would so they would laugh at each other's jokes instead of like you know how like in in sitcoms or something, they'll just like stand there when someone's making a joke.
34:03
SPEAKER_00: Right, right, right, right.
34:04
SPEAKER_00: Um they would actually laugh at each other.
34:06
SPEAKER_00: I can't remember what it was.
34:07
SPEAKER_00: It wasn't ha I want to say happy endings, but I don't think it was.
34:09
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'd be curious to know.
34:11
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but it was it worked.
34:12
SPEAKER_00: Wow.
34:13
SPEAKER_00: Um then you see Oh god.
34:17
SPEAKER_00: I forgot about this.
34:18
SPEAKER_00: They it's Kevin Neeland.
34:20
SPEAKER_00: Do you remember this bit?
34:22
SPEAKER_00: Like the plastic surgery like me stuff.
34:25
SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
34:26
SPEAKER_00: And it's the guy like it's a party.
34:28
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
34:29
SPEAKER_00: This is because this is where he meets her for the first time.
34:31
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
34:32
SPEAKER_00: Yes.
34:33
SPEAKER_00: And it's Kevin Nealand there, and he's got like so much Botox.
34:37
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
34:38
SPEAKER_00: And he's and his lips are swollen and he can't move, and he starts doing this like weird laugh.
34:42
SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
34:43
SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
34:44
SPEAKER_02: It's just so Yeah.
34:46
SPEAKER_01: Um but he meets I can't tell if you it sounds like you're I feel like you're teetering between you like the movie and you and you're cringing at it.
34:53
SPEAKER_00: I cr yeah well, that's the thing, yeah.
34:55
SPEAKER_00: Like I there are parts that I enjoyed.
34:57
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
34:58
SPEAKER_00: I enjoyed the stuff with the two of them together.
35:00
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
35:00
SPEAKER_00: I think.
35:01
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
35:01
SPEAKER_00: And then I don't know, I don't know if I necessarily enjoyed the comedy.
35:04
SPEAKER_02: Okay.
35:05
SPEAKER_02: Cool.
35:05
SPEAKER_00: Which is strange.
35:06
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
35:06
SPEAKER_00: Because I I like a lot of Adam Sandler's comedy as well.
35:09
SPEAKER_00: I'm not against this type of humor.
35:11
SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
35:11
SPEAKER_00: I just don't know if it worked for me in this one.
35:13
SPEAKER_02: Gotcha.
35:14
SPEAKER_02: Gotcha.
35:15
SPEAKER_02: Copy that.
35:16
SPEAKER_00: I don't th I tell you one person I don't I never enjoy, and it's Nick Swartzon.
35:22
SPEAKER_01: Really?
35:24
SPEAKER_01: Do you didn't like doing bench warmers either?
35:26
SPEAKER_00: No.
35:26
SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
35:27
SPEAKER_00: But I do like bench warmers.
35:28
SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's so funny.
35:29
SPEAKER_01: I think he was like, I would always quote him all the time.
35:32
SPEAKER_00: That's funny.
35:32
SPEAKER_00: I find him kind of annoying.
35:34
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
35:35
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
35:36
SPEAKER_01: I guess his characters are are are meant to be But it's so funny because like er all the stuff we're talking about, like I found when I like you know, when I was a teenager.
35:47
SPEAKER_01: What do you think really impacts your opinion of it?
35:49
SPEAKER_00: So I would have seen Ben Swords as a teenager.
35:52
SPEAKER_00: Right.
35:52
SPEAKER_00: And I don't know if I've seen it since I was a teenager, but I do re- I remember really liking it at the time, but not liking Nick Swanson.
35:59
SPEAKER_01: Interesting.
36:00
SPEAKER_00: But I remember liking to this.
36:02
SPEAKER_01: He's not listening.
36:05
SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna tag him in it.
36:07
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
36:07
SPEAKER_01: Hey Nick, we have an opinion.
36:11
SPEAKER_00: But yeah, so Adam Sandler's character meets Palmer, Brooklyn Decker's character.
36:16
SPEAKER_00: She's a school teacher.
36:20
SPEAKER_00: Another real like cliche of Adam Sandler movies is like there's always a school there's always like the good school teacher he has in there.
36:30
SPEAKER_00: I don't know what that is with him.
36:32
SPEAKER_01: It's crazy that she would be like twenty-three and already be a teacher.
36:35
SPEAKER_01: I guess actually I guess that's like when you become one.
36:37
SPEAKER_00: Maybe she's not supposed to be twenty-three.
36:39
SPEAKER_00: Maybe she's supposed to be older.
36:41
SPEAKER_00: I would pr I I I yeah.
36:44
SPEAKER_01: I would think a little older.
36:46
SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
36:46
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
36:47
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
36:47
SPEAKER_00: I reckon like probably late twenties she's supposed to be.
36:50
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
36:51
SPEAKER_00: But it's Yeah, because that wouldn't make sense to be twenty-three and a school teacher.
36:55
SPEAKER_01: No.
36:55
SPEAKER_01: But no, actually, I yeah, I don't know.
36:57
SPEAKER_01: I don't know what age people start teaching now.
36:59
SPEAKER_00: It's probably around then.
37:00
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
37:01
SPEAKER_00: Like very beginning would be that.
37:03
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
37:04
SPEAKER_00: Um but they yeah, like they immediately hear you off uh and they go for a walk on they they go for a walk on the beach, they end up sleeping together, and then she goes she goes to get something out of his pocket and she finds the ring in there.
37:20
SPEAKER_02: Yep.
37:21
SPEAKER_00: And instead of lying instead of like uh just saying what like what he says as usual, like which he could have done, he says like a different lie this time, which is that he's getting divorced.
37:34
SPEAKER_00: Um he says he's actually get he's uh he's getting divorced and like um so it's uh he's not with her anymore.
37:43
SPEAKER_00: Whereas like in the other times he's like, oh I'm I've just been cheated on away.
37:46
SPEAKER_02: Right, right, right, right.
37:47
SPEAKER_00: But now he's saying he's actually getting divorced so he can stay because he actually likes her.
37:50
SPEAKER_02: Right.
37:51
SPEAKER_00: Um and then he she wants to meet uh the wife, and so he he goes to Jennifer Anston and says, please pretend to be the wife that's Jennifer Anderson, who's his uh receptionist, yeah, assistant.
38:07
SPEAKER_00: And um she immediately agrees to it.
38:10
SPEAKER_00: Yep.
38:12
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
38:13
SPEAKER_01: And like Oh, and Kegan uh uh Kegan Michael Key is in it.
38:17
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
38:18
SPEAKER_00: As a as a hairdresser.
38:19
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
38:20
SPEAKER_01: She gets so he gives her a makeover.
38:22
SPEAKER_00: He gives her a makeover, yeah.
38:23
SPEAKER_00: And then like she goes and spends loads of money on clothes and I love him as that hairdresser.
38:27
SPEAKER_00: He's really funny.
38:28
SPEAKER_00: I I was so surprised to see him in it, you know.
38:30
SPEAKER_00: Like I wasn't I didn't think of him being like in movies around this time.
38:34
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, me neither.
38:35
SPEAKER_00: But I This must have been like the beginning of when he was starting to get things.
38:38
SPEAKER_00: Totally, yeah.
38:39
SPEAKER_00: He would have been on was he on mad TV at this point?
38:41
SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
38:42
SPEAKER_01: I don't I I'm so bad with years.
38:44
SPEAKER_00: I don't because we also didn't get mad TV here, so I don't know.
38:48
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't know either.
38:50
SPEAKER_00: I was just aware that he was on it at some point.
38:51
SPEAKER_00: Right, right, right, right.
38:52
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
38:53
SPEAKER_00: Um But yeah, they meet and he um like she has to pretend to be mean.
39:00
SPEAKER_02: Mm-hmm.
39:01
SPEAKER_00: But then like immediately drops that kind of Yeah.
39:04
SPEAKER_00: She's like too nice all the time.
39:06
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
39:07
SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
39:07
SPEAKER_00: So they get all they both get along with each other immediately.
39:11
SPEAKER_00: And then he like has She's on the phone, about to leave, and she's on the phone to her kids.
39:17
SPEAKER_02: Right.
39:18
SPEAKER_00: And then Brooklyn Decca overhears and is like, oh, um you uh you have kids, well I want to meet them.
39:26
SPEAKER_00: Right, yeah.
39:26
SPEAKER_00: And so they have to meet and so he has to meet Jennifer Anderson's kids.
39:31
SPEAKER_00: And so he makes a deal with them that they'll go to Hawaii.
39:35
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
39:36
SPEAKER_01: Because the little boy wants to swim with the dolphins.
39:38
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
39:39
SPEAKER_00: But he can't swim.
39:40
SPEAKER_01: Yep.
39:41
SPEAKER_01: And he doesn't find that out until they get there, right?
39:43
SPEAKER_00: Yep.
39:44
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
39:44
SPEAKER_00: Oh, this is actually one thing.
39:46
SPEAKER_00: One uh one thing I want to bring up is that you never meet the ex-husband.
39:52
SPEAKER_01: No, you never meet her real ex-husband, yeah.
39:54
SPEAKER_00: Which I thought I thought he was gonna come up at some point.
39:57
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
39:57
SPEAKER_00: I know I thought he was gonna be Dolph Lundren.
40:00
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I never thought about that, actually.
40:02
SPEAKER_00: I thought he was gonna be the real Dolph Lundgren.
40:03
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, playing.
40:04
SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's funny, the husband or something like that.
40:06
SPEAKER_00: That would be great.
40:07
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
40:08
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
40:08
SPEAKER_00: I re I feel like they tried to get him.
40:11
SPEAKER_01: They probably did.
40:13
SPEAKER_00: Because he came up he came up in reference so many times.
40:16
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
40:16
SPEAKER_00: That's funny.
40:17
SPEAKER_00: Um but yeah, also so it's they they go on the vacation to Hawaii and then Nick Swordson, his cousin, comes along as well.
40:24
SPEAKER_00: He tags along and he pretends to be Jennifer Anderson's new boyfriend.
40:29
SPEAKER_02: New boyfriend, yeah.
40:31
SPEAKER_00: Uh Dolph Lundren, this German man doing this awful accent and like weird.
40:38
SPEAKER_00: He's wearing these weird glasses.
40:40
SPEAKER_00: It's very it's like so over the top.
40:43
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it is over the top.
40:45
SPEAKER_00: Do you um uh so you're a fan of Nick Swanson, though?
40:48
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I I I wouldn't say I'm not a fan.
40:51
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
40:51
SPEAKER_01: I I'm in I'm indifferent.
40:53
SPEAKER_01: I yeah, I find him funny.
40:54
SPEAKER_01: Nice.
40:55
SPEAKER_01: Okay.
40:55
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
40:56
SPEAKER_00: But you liked uh bench warmers with hit you like him in bench warmers as well.
40:59
SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
41:00
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
41:00
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
41:01
SPEAKER_00: Did you um I'm trying to think of what else I've only ever seen him really in like He plays Howie in performers, yeah.
41:08
SPEAKER_00: I'm trying to think of what else I've seen him in.
41:10
SPEAKER_00: Um He's been in like loads of Sandler films.
41:13
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
41:14
SPEAKER_00: Um I'm sure I've seen him in Oh yeah, he's in Jack and Jill.
41:19
SPEAKER_00: You don't miss with the Zohan, Blades of Glory, 30 Minutes or Less.
41:22
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, all of these movies.
41:24
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
41:25
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
41:26
SPEAKER_00: Oh god.
41:29
SPEAKER_00: He's in one fresh movie.
41:34
SPEAKER_01: One French movie?
41:35
SPEAKER_01: Fresh.
41:35
SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
41:36
SPEAKER_00: And the rest and the rest and that's Blades of Glory.
41:39
SPEAKER_01: Damn.
41:39
SPEAKER_00: And the rest are not.
41:41
SPEAKER_00: Damn.
41:42
SPEAKER_00: Um Yeah, he's not well liked.
41:45
SPEAKER_00: Um yeah, one other thing I wanted to talk about is Dennis Dugan, Duggan Dugan, he directed this movie.
41:51
SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
41:52
SPEAKER_00: He directs a lot of the Sandler movies.
41:54
SPEAKER_02: Okay.
41:54
SPEAKER_00: But then he also directed Did you ever see Problem Child?
41:58
SPEAKER_02: Uh No.
41:59
SPEAKER_00: So that yeah, you would you're too young for it.
42:02
SPEAKER_02: Oh, what is it?
42:02
SPEAKER_00: So this would have been this was this came out when I was uh like a a very young kid.
42:08
SPEAKER_00: And it was it's a it's a movie about this like awful child who yeah the problem child, but like he's a basically he gets adopted and then he just goes from place to place getting adopted again and again and again because he's so awful to all these people.
42:24
SPEAKER_00: Um you'll see about all that sort of stuff, but then it's like Gilbert is Gottfried is in it and like uh John Ritter, but uh it's zero percent.
42:36
SPEAKER_01: Zero.
42:37
SPEAKER_00: Zero percent.
42:38
SPEAKER_01: That's crazy.
42:39
SPEAKER_00: It's really bad.
42:40
SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, what are you yeah, how how bad do you have to be to get zero?
42:43
SPEAKER_00: It's very, very bad.
42:45
SPEAKER_00: And it's about it's about an hour long.
42:47
SPEAKER_01: And this is the same director?
42:48
SPEAKER_00: Yes, that's like his first movie.
42:51
SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, that's so funny.
42:53
SPEAKER_00: But then he went on to like so he then he went on to direct um uh what is it?
42:59
SPEAKER_00: He's got Beverly Hills Ninja, Big Daddy, um I now pronounce you Chuck and Larry, Grown-Ups, Wow, Jack and Jill, That's My Boy.
43:10
SPEAKER_00: Like he directs all of like the sound of the movies now.
43:13
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
43:13
SPEAKER_00: He's like the go-to person for him, yeah.
43:15
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's funny.
43:16
SPEAKER_00: That's just funny to see like he's gone from that to suddenly like these really popular movies, yeah.
43:23
SPEAKER_00: But like working with continuously collaborating with this one person.
43:26
SPEAKER_02: Right, right, right, right.
43:27
SPEAKER_00: But he's like he only works in comedy, most of it, yeah.
43:30
SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
43:31
SPEAKER_00: Um and then it was written by Alan Loeb, who is a like a it's like a serious well, he's all over the place.
43:43
SPEAKER_00: He's he wrote like twenty-one Rock of Ages.
43:47
SPEAKER_02: Oh wow.
43:48
SPEAKER_00: Collateral Beauty uh Dilemma Ball Street Two.
43:54
SPEAKER_00: Like he's it's all over the place with his Yeah.
43:58
SPEAKER_00: It's very strange to like I I would have assumed that Sandler wrote this.
44:02
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I'm actually I for some reason I had thought that he did, but uh I guess it makes it's it's very sweet.
44:08
SPEAKER_01: The movie's very sweet.
44:09
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
44:10
SPEAKER_01: But it also it also does feel like a very character-driven movie.
44:12
SPEAKER_01: Like it's made funny by all the performances.
44:15
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
44:15
SPEAKER_00: That is a thing.
44:16
SPEAKER_00: I wonder how much was improvised along the way.
44:18
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like I like I feel like if it was cast with like different people, if it would st if I would still like it.
44:24
SPEAKER_01: I feel like it's very much by the way.
44:27
SPEAKER_00: I don't think I would have liked it at all with some other people in it.
44:29
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
44:30
SPEAKER_00: I think even switching out one of the two of them would have changed everything.
44:33
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, totally.
44:35
SPEAKER_00: Totally.
44:36
SPEAKER_00: Um I'm I also like I fully understand why they continue to work together.
44:41
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
44:43
SPEAKER_01: Such great chemistry.
44:44
SPEAKER_01: They're so funny together.
44:45
SPEAKER_01: They're so sweet and yeah.
44:47
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they're both like the thing about them is they they it feels to me like they uh have the same kind of comic sensibility.
44:55
SPEAKER_00: Totally.
44:56
SPEAKER_00: But they also have this the kind of ro rom com sensibility that they I I'm surprised they hadn't worked together until then.
45:03
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I know.
45:04
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that is that is interesting.
45:07
SPEAKER_01: Especially how far back they go.
45:09
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
45:10
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
45:10
SPEAKER_00: I I would have yeah.
45:12
SPEAKER_00: I would have expected her to be like in Big Daddy or Yeah, you know, something around along those things.
45:17
SPEAKER_01: Well, I guess she was like doing friends.
45:19
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but she was still doing like comedy movies around that time.
45:21
SPEAKER_01: I guess so, yeah.
45:25
SPEAKER_01: Wasn't like Bruce Almighty her first like So that was like the first well.
45:31
SPEAKER_01: What was her first like movie role outside of like during Office space, maybe?
45:36
SPEAKER_01: And what year was that?
45:38
SPEAKER_00: 99?
45:39
SPEAKER_01: Oh wow, yes, I yeah, so I feel like she wasn't really that was like five years into Friends.
45:43
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
45:44
SPEAKER_00: So I can't think of anything before that.
45:45
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I know she was in Leprechaun before she got friends.
45:48
SPEAKER_00: Oh really?
45:49
SPEAKER_01: That's fine.
45:50
SPEAKER_01: She she also did this movie, she did this like 90s, late 90s movie.
45:56
SPEAKER_01: Um D.
45:58
SPEAKER_01: Depart not Departed, Disobedient, or like Disney Something with a D.
46:04
SPEAKER_01: Something with a D.
46:05
SPEAKER_01: That I think was like during Friends that I've never seen.
46:10
SPEAKER_01: Which I think was like a serious movie.
46:13
SPEAKER_00: That was 2005.
46:15
SPEAKER_00: Oh never mind.
46:16
SPEAKER_01: It was 2005, okay.
46:17
SPEAKER_01: So right when she was done.
46:19
SPEAKER_00: So it looks like she did Picture Perfect, I guess.
46:24
SPEAKER_00: And that looks like the first one she kind of did.
46:30
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it feels so rare to me.
46:32
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, she really didn't do a whole lot until I was like, I mean, it makes sense.
46:35
SPEAKER_01: Friends was like, you know, the biggest show on TV.
46:37
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, she really didn't do that much.
46:39
SPEAKER_01: But I I think it's it's cool to know that like the a TV star became a movie star.
46:44
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like it's rare these days to see like a TV Now it's the reverse where the the movie stars will go into TV.
46:49
SPEAKER_01: Will go into TV.
46:50
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like I'm trying to think.
46:51
SPEAKER_01: Like I I think like Steve Carell, like now is doing like a lot more serious work.
46:56
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
46:57
SPEAKER_01: Uh or you know, he just did the patient, which I guess is TV, but like what was that movie with Channing Tatum he did?
47:02
SPEAKER_01: Fi Foxcatcher?
47:03
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Foxcatcher.
47:04
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so he's I feel like he's He got like an Oscar nomination for it, didn't he?
47:07
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think he did, yeah.
47:08
SPEAKER_01: But I'm I'm trying to think of like other like TV stars that are now like movie stars.
47:13
SPEAKER_01: Clooney.
47:14
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like Clooney was the big one because he went from early.
47:17
SPEAKER_01: But like now, like of the city.
47:18
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, now I was in like uh currently Yeah, like I can't really I feel like it's hard to do that.
47:23
SPEAKER_00: I feel like it's in like have gone from TV to movies.
47:28
SPEAKER_00: But euphoria Yeah, she's still doing euphoria, but she's like becoming a movie star.
47:32
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's true, actually.
47:33
SPEAKER_01: And she was a Disney kid.
47:34
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
47:35
SPEAKER_00: She like came from TV, is what I mean.
47:37
SPEAKER_01: Right, yeah.
47:38
SPEAKER_01: It's interesting to think about.
47:40
SPEAKER_00: There's not a whole lot, yeah.
47:41
SPEAKER_01: I guess like Jordan Peele's directing off of TV.
47:45
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
47:46
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but yeah.
47:46
SPEAKER_01: It's so I feel like Jennifer Anderson is like one of those perfect examples of like, wow, she just like seamlessly went from TV star to movie star and like star in both.
47:55
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
47:55
SPEAKER_00: I would like to see Adam Sandler do with like a TV series as well.
47:59
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
48:00
SPEAKER_01: I I I love he's touring again.
48:02
SPEAKER_01: He's touring a stand-up show again.
48:03
SPEAKER_01: Is he?
48:03
SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
48:04
SPEAKER_01: And I would I I can't wait to see it.
48:05
SPEAKER_01: I 100% fresh was like, I That was so good.
48:08
SPEAKER_01: That was my top Spotify for like I think two years.
48:11
SPEAKER_01: Really?
48:11
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
48:12
SPEAKER_01: That was so good.
48:13
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so so good.
48:14
SPEAKER_00: That made me like that's one of the things that made me go, oh, oh yeah, I love like that kind of thing from Sandler.
48:20
SPEAKER_00: I love that kind of thing.
48:21
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean he's so silly.
48:23
SPEAKER_01: Like it's just silly.
48:24
SPEAKER_01: It's it's like I I love musical comedy that like I like I love Bo Burnham so so much.
48:30
SPEAKER_01: And I like, you know, he's obviously like one of the biggest inspirations for me, uh especially in terms of mus musical comedy, but like I also love how like with Sandler it's like there's no underlying message.
48:42
SPEAKER_01: It's just jokes.
48:43
SPEAKER_01: And like that, it's so funny.
48:45
SPEAKER_01: I love that.
48:45
SPEAKER_00: Did you um I remember talking about his special, it it gave me a flashback to when we kind of like discovered his his like stand-up tapes that he had?
48:57
SPEAKER_00: Uh like the music the Do you remember the old tapes that he used to they released of his specials?
49:02
SPEAKER_00: Um No.
49:03
SPEAKER_01: So Where is that?
49:04
SPEAKER_01: Uh released where?
49:06
SPEAKER_00: Oh, this is like pre This is like This is like pre-Spotify or whatever.
49:11
SPEAKER_00: This is this is early 2000s.
49:13
SPEAKER_00: But no.
49:14
SPEAKER_00: Like so he he had like um these old I've gotta find out what they're called.
49:19
SPEAKER_00: Um But he had like old specials on tape and they we would just pass them around at school, I remember, but they were so funny.
49:28
SPEAKER_00: Oh wow But they were like they were a mixture of like his his him doing stand-up and sketches and like music stuff.
49:36
SPEAKER_00: It was all that kind of thing mixed in together.
49:38
SPEAKER_00: And I just remember being like, this is amazing.
49:40
SPEAKER_00: Really?
49:41
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
49:41
SPEAKER_00: Well, that's so cool.
49:42
SPEAKER_00: I just had a complete I hadn't thought about that in years.
49:44
SPEAKER_00: Oh, just now you're thinking about it.
49:45
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like as soon as you said his special there.
49:47
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
49:48
SPEAKER_00: Because I was thinking about like I was thinking about like the stuff he did in that, and it's very similar to the stuff he was doing on those tapes.
49:55
SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
49:56
SPEAKER_01: I would love to see those.
49:59
SPEAKER_01: I remember there was an article that came out after 100% fresh came out, and it was like some article that was like, wait, is Adam Sandler actually funny?
50:07
SPEAKER_01: And I was like, fuck off.
50:08
SPEAKER_01: Yes, he is, and he has been for like some like Vice article or something from like someone, you know, in their early 20s or something.
50:18
SPEAKER_01: Yes, he's made some of your favorite movies, and he's so funny.
50:22
SPEAKER_01: Like, but yeah, I do I do think for like the mainstream 100 100% fresh like brought him back into like an unironic, you know.
50:30
SPEAKER_00: I mean the Chris Farley thing went went round.
50:33
SPEAKER_00: Huge.
50:33
SPEAKER_00: I just remember that going everywhere.
50:35
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, totally.
50:36
SPEAKER_01: And I love that the wedding singer song that he like rewrote.
50:40
SPEAKER_00: Wedding singer is one of my favorites of his.
50:41
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
50:42
SPEAKER_00: But that's I think that's my that's my period for him.
50:46
SPEAKER_00: Okay.
50:47
SPEAKER_02: Gotcha.
50:48
SPEAKER_00: Wedding Singer, Big Daddy, all of those sort of ones.
50:51
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
50:52
SPEAKER_00: I love I love that time.
50:54
SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
50:54
SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
50:55
SPEAKER_00: Waterboy.
50:56
SPEAKER_01: Yep.
50:56
SPEAKER_01: That it was a great era.
50:58
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
50:59
SPEAKER_01: I love all those eras, but I'm glad that you like that one.
51:02
SPEAKER_00: Well, I think that was like I think that was around No, I would have been younger than you were when just go with it.
51:11
SPEAKER_00: I would have been younger than I would have been like ten or something.
51:14
SPEAKER_00: But you know, like I'm just I was trying to think of like if it was that's the time frame.
51:20
SPEAKER_01: Right, if that was your teenage, yeah.
51:22
SPEAKER_00: You know how like they say with SNL, like the time frame.
51:24
SPEAKER_01: Right, when you're in high school and that's like your favorite cast, yeah.
51:27
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
51:29
SPEAKER_00: What who who was the cast in your high school?
51:32
SPEAKER_00: Actually, of interest.
51:33
SPEAKER_01: You know what?
51:34
SPEAKER_01: I remember growing up, like my parents, we had like the best of tapes.
51:39
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
51:40
SPEAKER_01: So I we had the best of Sherry O'Terry and best of Will Farrell.
51:43
SPEAKER_01: Oh, interesting.
51:43
SPEAKER_00: I didn't know Sherry O'Terry had a best of.
51:45
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but or or We didn't get a whole lot of them.
51:48
SPEAKER_00: We hit we got like the biggest ones here.
51:50
SPEAKER_00: Right.
51:50
SPEAKER_00: We got Ferrell, we got Sandler's one, we got Eddie Murphy, like all of those sort of ones.
51:55
SPEAKER_01: So yeah, so I remember watch like like the Spartan cheerleaders and like uh yeah, Mr.
52:01
SPEAKER_01: Rod the the Eddie Murphy.
52:05
SPEAKER_01: So I I I feel like what I would watch of SNL was like older.
52:11
SPEAKER_01: Interesting.
52:11
SPEAKER_01: I have older parents too.
52:13
SPEAKER_01: So but I think when I was in high school, I think it was like Vanessa Bayer, like like I think it was like Bill Hayter, Kristen Wigg, like on their way out, though.
52:23
SPEAKER_00: Oh.
52:24
SPEAKER_00: Okay.
52:26
SPEAKER_01: Because I remember when I went when I went to college, like freshman year, it was like uh it like Kristen was gone and but it was still like Bobby Moynihan and like Vanessa Bayer and Beck and Kyle just got there.
52:38
SPEAKER_00: Oh right, okay.
52:39
SPEAKER_01: So I guess when I was in high school it was like the end of like Kristen and Bill Hare and all the yeah.
52:46
SPEAKER_00: For me, I I feel like we both we got like the tail end of it.
52:49
SPEAKER_00: So like I was the start of that and you were the end of the year.
52:51
SPEAKER_01: Right, right, right, right, right.
52:52
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
52:53
SPEAKER_00: Because that that's kind of my I remember that being my era.
52:56
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
52:57
SPEAKER_01: I remember I remember watching um Garth and Kat when it was happening.
53:01
SPEAKER_01: Like I remember that and I was just like blown away.
53:05
SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, I guess I guess around then.
53:08
SPEAKER_01: That is so good.
53:10
SPEAKER_01: So good.
53:11
SPEAKER_01: So good.
53:11
SPEAKER_01: Californians, I mean the and the the I forget what the name of it is, but when Christian Wick like the sisters, do you have sisters?
53:19
SPEAKER_00: Oh, it's like Judy or something and she's Yeah, I can't remember the name the name of the character, but the hat the weird hat.
53:24
SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, yeah, that is so funny.
53:27
SPEAKER_01: It's just all of it so good.
53:29
SPEAKER_01: So so good.
53:31
SPEAKER_00: It's so sh it's so funny thinking about it, because I feel like, again, like that influences your comedy tastes.
53:38
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, totally.
53:39
SPEAKER_00: It like im Yeah.
53:41
SPEAKER_00: It's just interesting to see.
53:42
SPEAKER_00: Because they all talk about how they got like their time frame.
53:46
SPEAKER_00: Right.
53:47
SPEAKER_00: The people in the 80s, early 90s or whatever.
53:51
SPEAKER_00: That that's how what they grew up with in the state.
53:53
SPEAKER_00: Right.
53:53
SPEAKER_01: And you could see how like if you're a fan of like whoever, you could see that you're also then technically a fan of like this person because they're inspired by them.
54:00
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
54:00
SPEAKER_01: That's so funny.
54:02
SPEAKER_00: Like I wish I do kind of like wish I had grown up with like standard period.
54:09
SPEAKER_00: But that would have been so interesting.
54:12
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean I feel like if I feel like it was a very like happy.
54:15
SPEAKER_01: I mean, I kind of talk about it on my show sometimes.
54:17
SPEAKER_01: Like the 2010s, uh they feel like it felt like everything's good, man.
54:24
SPEAKER_01: No problems in the world.
54:25
SPEAKER_01: Everyone's happy, like party rock, like it's all good.
54:28
SPEAKER_01: Like and I feel like that was like the movie culture of the time, too, of just like sweet and funny rom-coms and like we're all having a good time here.
54:36
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
54:36
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
54:37
SPEAKER_00: That's the other thing of like these don't entirely exist anymore outside of maybe Netflix.
54:44
SPEAKER_01: Which I'm against.
54:46
SPEAKER_00: I'm against it too.
54:48
SPEAKER_00: I've been talking about yeah, we've been talking about it.
54:50
SPEAKER_00: And like I also talking about how like I've been talking with friends about how the like the teen sex comedy is gone now as well.
54:56
SPEAKER_01: Right.
54:57
SPEAKER_00: Like you don't have like this, just like the general American pie sort of thing in there.
55:01
SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, like a super bad or like a bad.
55:04
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
55:05
SPEAKER_01: Or even like I guess 21 Jump Street was not.
55:07
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
55:08
unknown: Yeah.
55:09
SPEAKER_00: The closest we had the last eve, it's not even close, but like the last sort of thing was Book Smart.
55:14
SPEAKER_00: And like that's not even that close to that.
55:17
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
55:18
SPEAKER_01: So it's interesting to see like how I know there was a film, so there was a movie, I think it's age twenty four, I'm not sure, that um uh Rachel Senate and Io Adebri did just now.
55:28
SPEAKER_01: They just shot it called Bottoms.
55:30
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's not out yet though, is it?
55:31
SPEAKER_01: No, but they shot it and they're hi they're playing high school aged people.
55:34
SPEAKER_01: So I wonder if like maybe that, maybe that'll fill that pocket.
55:36
SPEAKER_00: That's gonna be good.
55:37
SPEAKER_00: You know it is.
55:39
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they're great.
55:39
SPEAKER_01: They were they're both my class at NYU.
55:41
SPEAKER_01: Really?
55:42
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
55:42
SPEAKER_01: Oh, no way.
55:43
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, which is cool.
55:44
SPEAKER_01: It's always it's so fun.
55:45
SPEAKER_01: I feel like my the my like the year plus or minus two years of of my NYU class, everybody's just like it's it's awesome.
55:52
SPEAKER_01: It's so crazy.
55:53
SPEAKER_01: Like so many people that I was like in Washington Square Park with are just like killing it.
55:56
SPEAKER_00: It's wait, so you're actually in classes with them?
55:59
SPEAKER_01: Not in classes, no.
56:01
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I didn't do TISH.
56:02
SPEAKER_01: I did I like studied communication.
56:04
SPEAKER_01: That was like the period in my life when I was like, I have no idea what I'm doing.
56:07
SPEAKER_01: So I'm gonna do communications.
56:08
SPEAKER_01: And I don't regret it, but um but all my friends were in TISH.
56:12
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
56:12
SPEAKER_01: That's uh NYU art school, yeah.
56:15
SPEAKER_00: I went to uh SVA for a bit.
56:17
SPEAKER_01: Oh really?
56:19
SPEAKER_01: I didn't know that.
56:20
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
56:20
SPEAKER_01: Wow.
56:21
SPEAKER_00: I did a study abroad there.
56:22
SPEAKER_01: Did you?
56:23
SPEAKER_01: Did you like it?
56:24
SPEAKER_00: I loved it.
56:24
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's like on 23rd.
56:27
SPEAKER_00: Oh, wow.
56:28
SPEAKER_00: That's how that's what they we were told was like NYU is the rival.
56:30
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
56:31
SPEAKER_01: I would think new school or Parsons would be more the rival.
56:35
SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
56:36
SPEAKER_01: The rivals, wow.
56:36
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
56:37
SPEAKER_00: Because I was in the film school bit, so like that's why they said that.
56:40
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
56:43
SPEAKER_01: Oh, nice.
56:44
SPEAKER_01: Um, and they were all very bright.
56:46
SPEAKER_01: So I'm kind of surprised.
56:50
SPEAKER_00: I didn't have to be bright to get into it, because it's just a exchange for it.
56:54
SPEAKER_01: Let me give you the credit.
56:54
SPEAKER_01: Let me give you the credit.
56:57
SPEAKER_00: Oh, I I loved it over there.
56:58
SPEAKER_00: That's what got me into comedy initially.
57:00
SPEAKER_00: Oh, really?
57:01
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
57:07
SPEAKER_00: Oh.
57:08
SPEAKER_00: Okay.
57:08
SPEAKER_01: Does that explain the sticker on your computer?
57:10
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
57:11
SPEAKER_00: That's been on there a long time.
57:12
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
57:12
SPEAKER_00: It's an old computer.
57:14
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
57:15
SPEAKER_00: No, I I my friend took me to a UCB show and I was like, this is amazing.
57:19
SPEAKER_00: I and then I just like never did anything with it for years, but like would watch a load of stuff.
57:23
SPEAKER_00: And then I went back and like took some classes there.
57:27
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I have a note somewhere on my phone.
57:29
SPEAKER_01: I like my going into my sophomore year of college, I went to a UCB show at what was the asylum that now just closed, where I was like running my show the past year.
57:40
SPEAKER_01: And I went, I went to a UCB show, I went to Cage Match.
57:43
SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
57:43
SPEAKER_01: And I watched an improv show, and I have a note somewhere in my phone.
57:47
SPEAKER_01: Like I left that show going, I know what I want, I want to do comedy, and I know it, and it's so amazing.
57:53
SPEAKER_01: And like mark my words right here, right now.
57:55
SPEAKER_01: Like, this is brilliant, and I'm going to chase this forever.
57:58
SPEAKER_01: And like I was so inspired by it.
58:01
SPEAKER_01: Like, I think everybody has that one show they saw in real life where it's the first time you see like not A-listers or like not like famous people doing it, and you're like, holy shit, this is amazing.
58:12
SPEAKER_01: This is how do I do this?
58:13
SPEAKER_01: How do I get my foot in the door?
58:15
SPEAKER_00: I um I tried to go back and like try and find what the show was that I saw.
58:19
SPEAKER_00: And I was looking through I remember like looking through like the history of like around the period like the the weeks in the 2009 where it would have been.
58:28
SPEAKER_00: And it was all like Kate McKinnon and all those people.
58:30
SPEAKER_00: Oh wow.
58:31
SPEAKER_00: It was like huge people.
58:32
SPEAKER_00: And I was like, did I see her?
58:33
SPEAKER_00: Or did I not?
58:34
SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
58:35
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
58:36
SPEAKER_01: I remember I yeah, I I feel like you if you went to like ASCAT.
58:40
SPEAKER_00: I didn't go to I didn't go to ASCAT at that time, but I went to like No, I I went to like um I went to like the Tuesday shows, which were just like, you know, um just the normal shows.
58:49
SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
58:50
SPEAKER_00: But it might I might have seen these people.
58:52
SPEAKER_00: Bobby m uh it would have been like right after Bobby Moynihan raised to go do SNL.
58:57
SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, then you easily could have.
59:00
SPEAKER_01: And how would you have known?
59:01
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
59:02
SPEAKER_00: I had no idea who any of these people were at that time.
59:04
SPEAKER_01: I remember the one thing I remember is the the improv troop that like won that night and I was blown away by.
59:11
SPEAKER_01: They were called Area 52.
59:12
SPEAKER_00: I remember them, yeah.
59:13
SPEAKER_00: Do you really?
59:14
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
59:14
SPEAKER_00: Really?
59:15
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because I was following it at that around that point.
59:17
SPEAKER_01: Oh wow.
59:17
SPEAKER_01: So yeah, so that was like that was I saw them and I was like holy and I never forgot.
59:22
SPEAKER_01: I was like so fucking blown away.
59:25
SPEAKER_01: That's so funny.
59:26
SPEAKER_00: Someone used to um upload Cage Match uh too.
59:30
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
59:31
SPEAKER_01: And wasn't there one where like no one talked?
59:33
SPEAKER_01: Do you remember that?
59:34
SPEAKER_00: There was like one like there was like a cage before like Yeah, the guy who just did it like silent.
59:38
SPEAKER_01: Silent, and it was like raucous, and it got uploaded.
59:41
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
59:43
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's funny.
59:44
SPEAKER_00: I just remember because that was that was around the time I started taking classes.
59:48
SPEAKER_00: Right.
59:48
SPEAKER_00: And I remember seeing I think I'd just come back from UCB.
59:53
SPEAKER_00: Okay.
59:53
SPEAKER_00: At that point, I'd just come back from taking the classes, and it like it was like a week after or something.
59:57
SPEAKER_00: I was like, I would have gone to see it.
59:59
SPEAKER_01: And I was like, it was a week after.
1:00:01
SPEAKER_01: Right, damn.
1:00:02
SPEAKER_00: But I remember being like blown away by that.
1:00:04
SPEAKER_00: Trevor Burrus, Jr.
1:00:04
SPEAKER_01: But so much of it is like being in real life.
1:00:08
SPEAKER_01: Like I mean, improv especially.
1:00:09
SPEAKER_01: Like I feel like it's so hard to watch improv that's recorded.
1:00:13
SPEAKER_01: Actually, I feel like um lately you you're seeing more of that.
1:00:17
SPEAKER_01: But like I feel like so much of what's special about comedy is like the in the room feeling.
1:00:22
SPEAKER_01: Like it's just you just can't.
1:00:24
SPEAKER_01: I I yeah, I so strongly feel like the rest of my life I hope I can keep doing live comedy.
1:00:29
SPEAKER_01: It's just like the best.
1:00:29
SPEAKER_00: It's like something so different about being in the room with like and yeah.
1:00:35
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
1:00:35
SPEAKER_01: I always like when whenever anybody's taping a special or any I'm like, I want to be there.
1:00:39
SPEAKER_01: I immediately get taken.
1:00:40
SPEAKER_01: Like I always want to go to the show.
1:00:42
SPEAKER_00: It's funny you say that, because like I find the tapings the weirdest ones out of all of them.
1:00:46
SPEAKER_01: Well, they're definitely like, there's like the pressure on it, but like I feel as someone who wants to hopefully do that, I I I love to like see I do love to watch it.
1:00:57
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
1:00:57
SPEAKER_00: I just find them like a different experience.
1:00:59
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
1:01:00
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
1:01:00
SPEAKER_01: They they are definitely different.
1:01:01
SPEAKER_01: It's definitely like you could tell it's like, you know, there's they the person can't be as much like off the cuff because it's getting recorded.
1:01:08
SPEAKER_01: But I saw Kathryn Cohen's uh special taping um in New York, which was so amaz like the other part of it is like it is so spectacular when someone's taping something.
1:01:20
SPEAKER_01: Like it's like a huge event.
1:01:22
SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
1:01:22
SPEAKER_01: And you get to be there and create that energy for them.
1:01:25
SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
1:01:26
SPEAKER_01: Um and and then I saw Atsuko's special taping.
1:01:29
SPEAKER_01: Of her Edinburgh.
1:01:30
SPEAKER_01: She went to see it.
1:01:31
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
1:01:32
SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
1:01:33
SPEAKER_00: She went to do it in New York, didn't she?
1:01:34
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, she did.
1:01:35
SPEAKER_01: And and Sam and I live there, and so and we became good friends at the festival.
1:01:38
SPEAKER_01: So that was so cool.
1:01:39
SPEAKER_01: And and John early is doing a taping that I'm gonna go to in next month.
1:01:44
SPEAKER_01: So I I just I'm like such a nerd when it comes to like I just like love to see the thing get created and be in the room for it.
1:01:50
SPEAKER_01: Because it's like it's just like my it's something that I'll never, I'll never like I will never be numb to the magic of like a live show.
1:01:58
SPEAKER_01: Like it's it's even Sam and I when we run our weekly Tuesday show, like you know, we have bad shows, but like almost every week we're always like, I can't believe we get to do this.
1:02:07
SPEAKER_01: Like it's so fun.
1:02:08
SPEAKER_01: It's just you ever record them?
1:02:10
SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
1:02:10
SPEAKER_01: I re like whenever I post TikTok clips or anything of my stand-up, it's like from that show.
1:02:14
SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay, yeah.
1:02:15
SPEAKER_01: Um but not like professional.
1:02:16
SPEAKER_01: No, not professional.
1:02:17
SPEAKER_01: I didn't mean professionally actually.
1:02:18
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
1:02:19
SPEAKER_01: I mean maybe maybe maybe one day, but I I yeah, it's just like the joy of like live performing is just like there's nothing else like it.
1:02:26
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
1:02:26
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
1:02:27
SPEAKER_01: Sorry, I totally took us off.
1:02:28
SPEAKER_01: No, that was on a tangent.
1:02:29
SPEAKER_01: No, I like going off on the tangents as well.
1:02:31
SPEAKER_00: Because like we're talking comedy stuff in general.
1:02:34
SPEAKER_00: It's nice.
1:02:34
SPEAKER_00: You know, it's nice talking to Americans about this the that side of comedy as well.
1:02:39
SPEAKER_00: Totally.
1:02:39
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
1:02:40
SPEAKER_00: Um what's what's your uh how do you actually I wanted to ask you about like the British side of comedy as well.
1:02:47
SPEAKER_00: Like what did you know much about like the British comedy scene before you came to Edinburgh?
1:02:53
SPEAKER_01: Um not not terribly.
1:02:55
SPEAKER_01: I knew like Zack Zucker from who runs Sam Town and has been into the fringe for like eight years.
1:03:00
SPEAKER_01: He he like gave me as much of a lowdown as he could.
1:03:03
SPEAKER_00: So he told you who to s like who to see, or did he tell you like what the what to expect?
1:03:07
SPEAKER_01: No, more like more like what to expect and like you know the biggest the biggest thing I had gotten was like and the biggest advice I had gotten was like, you know, in Edinburgh, uh or like people would say like your show is is good for it because like people in Edinburgh like to like take away a message.
1:03:21
SPEAKER_01: Like it's nice to have like a through line and at the end this is what I learned type of an energy.
1:03:25
SPEAKER_01: And it's like I mean my show is you know that was already baked into it.
1:03:29
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
1:03:30
SPEAKER_01: Um but that was something that I feel like you never really see in America.
1:03:34
SPEAKER_01: America, it's like, you know, if you're doing an hour, it's just jokes.
1:03:36
SPEAKER_01: Like there's you don't need that.
1:03:38
SPEAKER_01: Um or like like no one advises that like when you're when you're going in to create a show.
1:03:43
SPEAKER_01: But also like no one really does an hour until they're like big.
1:03:47
SPEAKER_01: Like so the culture of doing an hour felt like new anyway.
1:03:52
SPEAKER_01: And then yeah, so I didn't really know that much about it, even in terms of like who to see.
1:03:56
SPEAKER_01: And like I had known from like like Catherine was over here doing shows a bunch, and and Alex Edelman, and like they they each gave me some different tips, but like I didn't really know that many people or like that much about like going doing the show for a UK audience and like adjusting it to that was like its own experience.
1:04:13
SPEAKER_00: And like Yeah, so I guess I think it's always interesting to see that when the Americans come over here.
1:04:18
SPEAKER_00: Trevor Burrus, Jr.
1:04:18
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
1:04:19
SPEAKER_01: Just like the adjustment.
1:04:20
SPEAKER_00: You see it like I'll see it like on a first day and I'll see it on the last day, and the difference of like where they've adjusted it over time.
1:04:28
SPEAKER_01: I I will say I do think that like the show was better because like like I feel like the the UK audiences like held it to it like a standard of like I it really.
1:04:41
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well you uh it just made me see the show as this like linear product for people who have no idea who I am.
1:04:48
SPEAKER_01: Like I was so used to performing it to crowds who like at least a majority of the people in the crowd have heard my name before.
1:04:54
SPEAKER_01: This was like nobody knows me.
1:04:57
SPEAKER_01: Like, how do I win them over from joke one and like keep them in the story?
1:05:01
SPEAKER_01: And like, how do I how do I make it this cohesive thing that like represents me?
1:05:05
SPEAKER_01: Whereas I feel like I was never like put to that test in America.
1:05:08
SPEAKER_00: But it's funny because now you're at the stage here where people have heard of you.
1:05:12
SPEAKER_00: Right.
1:05:12
SPEAKER_00: And now they do now they come in to see you because they've heard of you.
1:05:15
SPEAKER_00: Trevor Burrus, Jr.
1:05:15
SPEAKER_01: Right.
1:05:15
SPEAKER_01: But that and that's like you know, the the the first couple days of this run, we actually changed a couple things in the show even more because now I don't know how much it has to do with the UK, but like now there's a certain context of the show where it's like when I was doing it at Edinburgh, you know, I'm telling this story that I like that I have it like the the whole idea of the show is like I couldn't talk about this forever and now I'm finally talking about it.
1:05:36
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
1:05:37
SPEAKER_01: And now I'm finally facing this thing.
1:05:39
SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
1:05:39
SPEAKER_01: And so in Edinburgh it was very much like, you know, I was this like quote unquote underdog, I guess, or like this no name.
1:05:44
SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
1:05:44
SPEAKER_01: And like I think there was like a sense of victory to like coming to see me for the first time.
1:05:48
SPEAKER_01: But now it's like, oh, she's got a sold-out run and I had to like fight to get a ticket.
1:05:53
SPEAKER_01: All right, tell me, like, show me this.
1:05:54
SPEAKER_00: So there's a different Edinburgh nomination and she got a sold out run.
1:05:57
SPEAKER_01: Right.
1:05:57
SPEAKER_01: Well well, there's this just this different energy to doing the show.
1:06:00
SPEAKER_01: Where it's like clearly, especially at the end where like I tie everything together, I can no longer like claim it as like, and now I'm finally set.
1:06:06
SPEAKER_01: It's like there's a different context of like, I've been talking about it, and like how does that affect the message of the show?
1:06:12
SPEAKER_01: So I think that's been like it's I I've that's something I learned just this go-around in London.
1:06:17
SPEAKER_01: But like I think the UK audiences are great for like it's like they the standards are high, and it's like you gotta, you gotta like, you know, people are paying to see a show.
1:06:26
SPEAKER_01: Give me a sold-out show.
1:06:28
SPEAKER_01: And like, not that you don't get it in America, but I think it's like I don't think people like have as much of a framework in America.
1:06:36
SPEAKER_01: Like they're kind of just like I don't think there's as much like defined opinion.
1:06:40
SPEAKER_00: They don't know they don't they don't have a set uh way of like doing a show.
1:06:46
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
1:06:46
SPEAKER_01: And like I think there's pros and cons to that.
1:06:48
SPEAKER_01: Like I I find that when I'm in America doing the show, I can be a little more weird and I feel like I can be a little more like character-y and like do a couple more punchlines that are like that like might go over your not go over your head.
1:07:00
SPEAKER_01: It's not like it's because p people here get things way more than a lot of jokes hit harder here.
1:07:06
SPEAKER_01: But like I feel like I have more leeway to like go outside of the box in America, which is which is fun.
1:07:11
SPEAKER_01: But like luckily this show kind of like demands both.
1:07:14
SPEAKER_01: So you know, meet in the middle in a fun way.
1:07:16
SPEAKER_00: Do you think you'll um do you think you'll ever like tour the UK?
1:07:20
SPEAKER_00: Because you're touring America with it.
1:07:21
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, I would love to.
1:07:22
SPEAKER_01: I think like hopefully, you know, how this goes, hopefully I can like work my way up to be able being able to do that.
1:07:29
SPEAKER_01: I would I I'm having the best.
1:07:30
SPEAKER_01: I have the best time.
1:07:31
SPEAKER_01: This is my second time here.
1:07:32
SPEAKER_01: Like, you seem like you're having so much fun.
1:07:34
SPEAKER_01: I am having so much fun.
1:07:35
SPEAKER_01: I just like I also feel like the audiences here are so like like they love art in much more of like a pure way.
1:07:41
SPEAKER_01: I don't know if that's a generalization, but like there's so much more of a culture here of like going to see shows and like in in a way that's like a genuine love for like the creation of a show.
1:07:51
SPEAKER_01: And like we just don't have that culture as much in America, so I'm I'm always very excited to be here.
1:07:55
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
1:07:55
SPEAKER_00: Do you find you hurt do you find it like a very mixed age audience, or do you find it's like a specific kind of crowd that you're getting?
1:08:01
SPEAKER_01: Aaron Powell I find that uh well my run here sold out right after I did an interview with The Guardian.
1:08:07
SPEAKER_01: That came out and like the whole run sold out.
1:08:09
SPEAKER_01: And I find that the audiences here have seemed a little older.
1:08:12
SPEAKER_01: I will say that.
1:08:15
SPEAKER_00: Someone else, I don't want to say who I'll tell you off air, someone else had that after a Guardian thing as well.
1:08:23
SPEAKER_01: Which I expected.
1:08:24
SPEAKER_01: I was like, I was like, I bet like, especially people who like buy tickets in advance.
1:08:28
SPEAKER_01: I'm like they tend to lean older, which has been fun.
1:08:31
SPEAKER_01: Like it it's great and it's fun.
1:08:32
SPEAKER_01: I will say my show like does better with a little bit of a younger crowd, or a mixed age show.
1:08:37
SPEAKER_00: It makes it makes sense.
1:08:39
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
1:08:40
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like I had one night this week where the audience, I like just by the looks of it, I was like, okay, everybody here is definitely over 30.
1:08:46
SPEAKER_01: And then uh like mostly over 40.
1:08:48
SPEAKER_01: And I was like, okay, it makes sense that like my Hannah Montana references are not really landing hard.
1:08:54
SPEAKER_00: Um It was quite a young audience the night I came, I think.
1:08:57
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you came on a very fun night.
1:08:59
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
1:08:59
SPEAKER_00: That was a really fun one.
1:09:01
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you came on like probably like we had like two like rockin ones, and that was one of them.
1:09:05
SPEAKER_01: Right.
1:09:05
SPEAKER_01: And it was a very young, young crowd that night.
1:09:08
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
1:09:08
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, which is fun.
1:09:09
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you had like lots of people like cheering and stuff.
1:09:12
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
1:09:13
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
1:09:13
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
1:09:14
SPEAKER_01: I I also feel like there's a lot of jokes in the show that like fit people who were born in the like a five-year window.
1:09:20
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, oh, yeah, definitely.
1:09:22
SPEAKER_01: So it's very much like I kind of bank on some of them being in the crowd for the show to do well.
1:09:26
SPEAKER_00: But um, you had a lot of that in the front row.
1:09:28
SPEAKER_01: Yes, that the front row when you were there was And then you had Leo Reich as well, who's like just the perfect age for it.
1:09:35
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
1:09:36
SPEAKER_00: Totally.
1:09:37
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
1:09:37
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
1:09:38
SPEAKER_00: Um It was fun.
1:09:40
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
1:09:40
SPEAKER_00: So let's uh finish talking about the movie and then we'll move- I'll move I'll move on to like the final segment because I don't want to keep you too much longer.
1:09:46
SPEAKER_00: Um basically we find out that uh Nicole Kidman's character is called Devlin.
1:09:58
SPEAKER_00: Yes.
1:09:59
SPEAKER_00: Which means uh Nik Jennifer Anderson has uh told her kids that means poop.
1:10:04
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
1:10:05
SPEAKER_01: They when they need to take a poop, they say they call it taking a Devlin.
1:10:08
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
1:10:08
SPEAKER_00: So they uh but then Jennifer Anderson's character winds up being called Devlin as the as like the other character.
1:10:15
SPEAKER_00: But um uh as the other name.
1:10:17
SPEAKER_00: But then all they all So they have to pretend they're married and Adam Sandler has to watch the kids and all this sort of stuff.
1:10:27
SPEAKER_00: He like she watches him and sees like how good he is with the kids.
1:10:31
SPEAKER_00: So you start that's when she starts to gr get feelings for him.
1:10:34
SPEAKER_00: You can see how good he is.
1:10:35
SPEAKER_01: He teaches him how to swim.
1:10:36
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he teaches the the son how to swim.
1:10:39
SPEAKER_00: Um but then also Brooklyn Decker is a huge fan of this as well.
1:10:44
SPEAKER_00: Right.
1:10:45
SPEAKER_00: So it's kind of like at the same time they're both Now they're both in love with him.
1:10:50
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
1:10:52
SPEAKER_00: Um and then, yeah, all this is going on, they there's all like Oh god, I wrote down that that there's a partner's dinner where Nicole Kidman and Dave Matthews go on a dinner date with I love that scene.
1:11:06
SPEAKER_01: And the the coconuts, the the the coconut contest.
1:11:09
SPEAKER_01: The coconut contest.
1:11:12
SPEAKER_01: My favorite quote in the whole movie is when Dave Matthews goes, Don't pour over me.
1:11:15
SPEAKER_01: I know I already did it, but like that I still to this day will will like say that quote.
1:11:20
SPEAKER_01: So good.
1:11:21
SPEAKER_01: I'll bring my glass to you.
1:11:23
SPEAKER_01: My brother and I will still do that with each other.
1:11:24
SPEAKER_01: That was funny.
1:11:25
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I love that.
1:11:26
SPEAKER_00: That was so funny.
1:11:27
SPEAKER_01: So good.
1:11:28
SPEAKER_01: Don't pour over me.
1:11:29
SPEAKER_01: Don't pour over me.
1:11:30
SPEAKER_01: I'll bring my glass to you.
1:11:32
SPEAKER_01: I just love I love like rude, wealthy people.
1:11:35
SPEAKER_01: It just makes sense.
1:11:36
SPEAKER_01: Rude wealthy people in it's so funny.
1:11:38
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's always so funny.
1:11:40
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I love it.
1:11:41
SPEAKER_00: It's like you could absolutely hate these people.
1:11:43
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, totally, totally.
1:11:45
SPEAKER_00: Um at the same time, this is when Brooklyn Decker and Nick Swordson are going on on like a dinner just to get to know each other.
1:11:55
SPEAKER_00: Um and there's a thing with a sheep.
1:11:59
SPEAKER_00: Do you remember this scene?
1:12:00
SPEAKER_01: Yes.
1:12:01
SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, yeah.
1:12:03
SPEAKER_00: I do not like this scene.
1:12:04
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I that's why I wanted to bring up I do not This is probably the worst scene in the whole movie.
1:12:08
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't like that scene either.
1:12:09
SPEAKER_00: Because he like gives a sheep a Heimlink maneuver.
1:12:12
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
1:12:13
SPEAKER_01: It's uncomfortable.
1:12:14
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
1:12:14
SPEAKER_00: It's very weird.
1:12:15
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
1:12:16
SPEAKER_00: Meanwhile, they're they're the the Nicole Kidman and Jennifer Anderson have this like hula competition against each other, and then there's the c the coconut contest.
1:12:24
SPEAKER_00: Um and then they get very close and almost kiss Nicole Kidman.
1:12:29
SPEAKER_00: Uh not Jennifer Anderson and Adam Sandler.
1:12:31
SPEAKER_00: They're about to kiss at the hotel as this and then the kids interrupt.
1:12:36
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
1:12:36
SPEAKER_00: So he goes to go back to his hotel room, and then he like panics and is like, oh no, I'm gonna go back to her.
1:12:42
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
1:12:43
SPEAKER_00: Goes to run, Brooklyn Decker comes up, and then you see Jennifer Anderson come up as well.
1:12:48
unknown: Yeah.
1:12:49
SPEAKER_01: Oh the ultimate move in the rom-com to make you so frustrated.
1:12:55
SPEAKER_00: And at that point, Brooklyn Decker's like, oh, let's get married now.
1:12:59
SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
1:13:00
SPEAKER_00: So they go to set up a wedding for that.
1:13:03
SPEAKER_00: And he is still in love with Jennifer Ann.
1:13:08
SPEAKER_00: He's in he's in love with Jennifer Aniston.
1:13:10
SPEAKER_00: And uh Brooklyn Decker notices it.
1:13:13
SPEAKER_02: And she's yep.
1:13:15
SPEAKER_00: And she um she tells Devlin the truth uh um Jennifer Aniston tells Nicole Kidman the truth about everything.
1:13:21
SPEAKER_00: Turns out Dave Matthews is gay.
1:13:23
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
1:13:23
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
1:13:24
SPEAKER_00: And they're getting a divorce.
1:13:25
SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
1:13:26
SPEAKER_00: Um and Adam Sandler overhears everything about her being in love with him.
1:13:33
SPEAKER_00: Which is weird because he's like sitting right there where she could have seen him.
1:13:37
SPEAKER_00: It's very convenient, but it's like, it's fine.
1:13:39
SPEAKER_00: Perfect.
1:13:40
SPEAKER_00: Um it turns out he couldn't get married to Brooklyn Decker.
1:13:44
SPEAKER_00: And he wants to get married to her.
1:13:46
SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
1:13:46
SPEAKER_00: And so they do.
1:13:48
SPEAKER_00: They do.
1:13:48
SPEAKER_00: And Brooklyn Decker ends up with Andy Roddick, who is her real life husband.
1:13:54
SPEAKER_01: Oh, I didn't know that.
1:13:55
SPEAKER_01: That's cool.
1:13:56
SPEAKER_00: The guy on the plane is her real-life husband.
1:13:57
SPEAKER_01: Wow.
1:13:58
SPEAKER_01: Like the the NSYNC fan.
1:14:00
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
1:14:00
SPEAKER_00: That's funny.
1:14:01
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
1:14:02
SPEAKER_01: That's See, I I think I'm also I've I've always been a sucker for like romance, like character relationships that blossom out of friendship.
1:14:10
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
1:14:10
SPEAKER_00: I love that.
1:14:11
SPEAKER_00: I love I do love that.
1:14:12
SPEAKER_01: Like Ross and Rachel was that, they're that.
1:14:14
SPEAKER_01: Like anything, you know, Jim and Pam are that.
1:14:17
SPEAKER_01: Like I love when characters are friends and then get together.
1:14:20
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
1:14:21
SPEAKER_00: It's the best.
1:14:23
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
1:14:23
SPEAKER_00: So I I I would say I didn't hate this movie by any means.
1:14:28
SPEAKER_02: Okay.
1:14:28
SPEAKER_00: I thought I was going to initially.
1:14:30
SPEAKER_02: Okay.
1:14:30
SPEAKER_00: When I first started, I was like, I'm not enjoying this.
1:14:33
SPEAKER_00: But as it went on, I started to enjoy it more and more.
1:14:34
SPEAKER_00: I started to get into it.
1:14:36
SPEAKER_00: I think if you just like kind of give in to the exposition and stuff, it's just like Yeah, this is this is just a light comedy.
1:14:42
SPEAKER_00: It doesn't r it's not serious or anything.
1:14:45
SPEAKER_00: Just enjoy it for what it is.
1:14:46
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
1:14:47
SPEAKER_00: It's fun.
1:14:48
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
1:14:48
SPEAKER_00: It's a fun movie.
1:14:49
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
1:14:49
SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm team fun sweet rom com.
1:14:52
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
1:14:52
SPEAKER_01: I do love a rom-com.
1:14:54
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
1:14:54
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
1:14:55
SPEAKER_00: So yeah.
1:14:55
SPEAKER_00: I would say this is this should not be fifteen percent by any means.
1:14:59
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, definitely not.
1:14:59
SPEAKER_00: This is way too low.
1:15:00
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
1:15:02
SPEAKER_00: But I would put it probably I'd probably put it around where it is on the audience media.
1:15:07
SPEAKER_00: Audience, yeah.
1:15:08
SPEAKER_00: I'd probably put it around the 59%.
1:15:10
SPEAKER_00: That's about it.
1:15:10
SPEAKER_01: I think that's fair.
1:15:11
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
1:15:12
SPEAKER_01: I appreciate that.
1:15:14
SPEAKER_00: But this is about this is you've enjoyed it, and that's what matters.
1:15:18
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
1:15:19
SPEAKER_01: I know.
1:15:19
SPEAKER_01: It's like whenever someone's like, what's your favorite movie?
1:15:21
SPEAKER_01: I will say I I usually reference just go with it.
1:15:24
SPEAKER_01: It's like I it's such a hard question that I can never think of it.
1:15:27
SPEAKER_01: But I would say my real favorite movie in recent years is A Star Is Born.
1:15:31
SPEAKER_01: But I'm sure that it's rated very well.
1:15:32
SPEAKER_00: That's rated very that's like in the 80s or 90s, I think.
1:15:35
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
1:15:35
SPEAKER_01: So couldn't pick that one.
1:15:38
SPEAKER_00: You could have picked another version of A Star Is Born, I think, right?
1:15:40
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, maybe no, but I feel like the Barbara Streisand one is also probably rated pretty well.
1:15:43
SPEAKER_00: There's like five versions, though.
1:15:44
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
1:15:45
SPEAKER_01: That's true.
1:15:46
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
1:15:47
SPEAKER_00: Okay, so let's move on to uh let's let's try this new segment then that I wanted to try because since since we're now on the video.
1:15:53
SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
1:15:54
SPEAKER_03: Perfect.
1:15:55
SPEAKER_00: Okay.
1:15:55
SPEAKER_00: Perfect.
1:15:56
SPEAKER_00: So I actually forgot as well.
1:16:00
SPEAKER_00: Um it's called higher or lower.
1:16:03
SPEAKER_00: Um I'm gonna present it on here.
1:16:05
SPEAKER_00: I will um I'll bring it up on the screen there for everyone, but uh Okay.
1:16:12
SPEAKER_00: It's a higher or lower.
1:16:14
SPEAKER_00: So we're gonna start with just go with it.
1:16:16
SPEAKER_00: So this is the base code for it.
1:16:18
SPEAKER_00: So we're set 19%.
1:16:20
SPEAKER_00: That's crazy.
1:16:22
SPEAKER_00: Okay, so first movie, Uncut Gems.
1:16:26
SPEAKER_01: What do I Oh higher for sure.
1:16:27
SPEAKER_01: Higher?
1:16:28
SPEAKER_01: Okay.
1:16:28
SPEAKER_00: What do you think it's at?
1:16:30
SPEAKER_01: I would say it's in in the 80s or 90s.
1:16:32
SPEAKER_00: Okay.
1:16:33
SPEAKER_00: 91.
1:16:34
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, hell yeah.
1:16:35
SPEAKER_00: That was an easy one to say.
1:16:36
SPEAKER_01: Audience score 52.
1:16:37
SPEAKER_00: I know, that really surprised me.
1:16:39
SPEAKER_00: That's insane, isn't it?
1:16:40
SPEAKER_01: It's such a good movie.
1:16:41
SPEAKER_00: People will get stressed out from it.
1:16:42
SPEAKER_01: Oh my yeah, it's true.
1:16:43
SPEAKER_01: It stressed me the hell out.
1:16:44
SPEAKER_01: And also And the ending, I was like, no.
1:16:48
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm not gonna spoil it, but I was pissed off pissed off.
1:16:53
SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
1:16:54
SPEAKER_00: Okay, next one.
1:16:55
SPEAKER_00: Murder mystery.
1:16:56
SPEAKER_01: I'm sure this is low, but I think it's great.
1:16:59
SPEAKER_01: I'm sure it's higher though than just go with it.
1:17:01
SPEAKER_00: Do you think it's high do you think it's higher or lower than uncut gems though?
1:17:04
SPEAKER_01: Lower.
1:17:05
SPEAKER_00: Lower.
1:17:05
SPEAKER_00: Okay.
1:17:06
SPEAKER_01: It's probably in the 70s.
1:17:08
SPEAKER_01: 40.
1:17:08
SPEAKER_00: 44.
1:17:09
SPEAKER_00: But like look at the scores.
1:17:10
SPEAKER_00: It's very similar.
1:17:11
SPEAKER_01: Damn.
1:17:12
SPEAKER_00: Okay.
1:17:14
SPEAKER_00: Click.
1:17:15
SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, this is one of my favorites.
1:17:16
SPEAKER_01: I love click.
1:17:17
SPEAKER_01: I used to always say, like, when when I was like in high school, what's your favorite movie, click?
1:17:21
SPEAKER_00: I love click.
1:17:22
SPEAKER_01: I love click so it's such a good message.
1:17:24
SPEAKER_01: It's so good.
1:17:25
SPEAKER_00: Um higher or lower than 44.
1:17:27
SPEAKER_01: Higher.
1:17:28
SPEAKER_00: Higher?
1:17:29
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
1:17:30
SPEAKER_00: 34.
1:17:31
SPEAKER_01: Oh, click.
1:17:33
SPEAKER_00: It's 34%.
1:17:35
SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
1:17:36
SPEAKER_00: I had to put it in there because I was so surprised.
1:17:39
SPEAKER_01: Click is an amazing movie.
1:17:41
SPEAKER_00: Click's so good, and I don't understand the hate for it.
1:17:44
SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
1:17:45
SPEAKER_01: See that even the audience score should be higher.
1:17:47
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I agree.
1:17:49
SPEAKER_01: That is messed up.
1:17:50
SPEAKER_00: That's my favorite one from that era.
1:17:52
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that that is an amazing film.
1:17:55
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
1:17:55
SPEAKER_01: Who wrote that movie?
1:17:56
SPEAKER_01: Did he write it?
1:17:58
SPEAKER_00: No.
1:17:59
SPEAKER_00: I don't know who wrote it.
1:18:00
SPEAKER_00: I can't remember.
1:18:01
SPEAKER_00: It is so good.
1:18:02
SPEAKER_01: It's such an important message.
1:18:06
SPEAKER_01: I'm upset by that.
1:18:07
SPEAKER_00: I am upset by that.
1:18:08
SPEAKER_00: I am upset by that.
1:18:09
SPEAKER_00: So that gives you a score of what three say four?
1:18:13
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
1:18:14
SPEAKER_00: Four?
1:18:15
SPEAKER_00: I put you.
1:18:16
SPEAKER_00: No, three, sorry.
1:18:16
SPEAKER_01: Wait, three, like I got three right.
1:18:18
SPEAKER_00: Three, three right.
1:18:19
SPEAKER_00: Oh, I did?
1:18:19
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
1:18:20
SPEAKER_00: Okay.
1:18:22
SPEAKER_00: I had grown-ups after that.
1:18:24
SPEAKER_01: Oh, it's gotta be low.
1:18:26
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
1:18:26
SPEAKER_00: And then I think that was the last one, Jack and Jill.
1:18:30
SPEAKER_01: Higher or low or lower.
1:18:30
SPEAKER_00: Oh no, I had two more off it.
1:18:31
SPEAKER_00: So higher or low than eleven.
1:18:33
SPEAKER_01: Then eleven?
1:18:34
SPEAKER_01: Higher.
1:18:36
SPEAKER_00: Three percent!
1:18:37
SPEAKER_01: Three?
1:18:39
SPEAKER_01: Damn.
1:18:40
SPEAKER_00: And then I had one more to end it, which was The Master of Disguise, which he's not in, but he produced.
1:18:45
SPEAKER_01: I don't even know that one.
1:18:47
SPEAKER_00: It's a Dana Carvey movie.
1:18:49
SPEAKER_01: Uh lower, I guess.
1:18:52
SPEAKER_01: 1%.
1:18:54
SPEAKER_00: I had to throw it in because it's 1%!
1:18:56
SPEAKER_01: How do you get a 1%?
1:18:58
SPEAKER_00: 1%.
1:18:59
SPEAKER_00: That is crazy.
1:19:00
SPEAKER_00: So bad, isn't it?
1:19:02
SPEAKER_00: It's a really, really bad movie.
1:19:04
SPEAKER_01: But see, you know what's funny is like that makes me want to watch that more than it makes me want to watch like grown-ups and movies.
1:19:09
SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, fool.
1:19:10
SPEAKER_01: I want to watch the 1% movie.
1:19:11
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I like watching bad movies.
1:19:13
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
1:19:13
SPEAKER_01: It's like you've got to go, okay, what what gave this 1%?
1:19:17
SPEAKER_01: It's also crazy to think like, wow, bad movies get made.
1:19:21
SPEAKER_01: You know, like whenever whenever someone's like, yeah, I'm working on a screenplay, it's like, oh, so cool, but it's like, well, it could be bad, because people make bad movies.
1:19:27
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
1:19:27
SPEAKER_01: It's crazy.
1:19:28
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
1:19:29
SPEAKER_01: Damn, that's brutal.
1:19:30
SPEAKER_01: 1%.
1:19:33
SPEAKER_00: But here's the good news.
1:19:34
SPEAKER_00: What?
1:19:34
SPEAKER_00: Because you're the first person to do this, you're on the top of the leaderboard.
1:19:37
SPEAKER_01: Wow.
1:19:39
SPEAKER_01: Wait, so what did I how did I say that?
1:19:40
SPEAKER_01: You got three.
1:19:41
SPEAKER_01: Okay.
1:19:41
SPEAKER_01: Out of six?
1:19:43
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I guess six, yeah.
1:19:44
SPEAKER_01: No, I knew I knew that one of them was going to be lower.
1:19:46
SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
1:19:46
SPEAKER_01: I knew Master of Disguise would be lower.
1:19:48
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'll give you that.
1:19:48
SPEAKER_01: I'll give you that.
1:19:49
SPEAKER_01: Okay, I'll give you a few.
1:19:50
SPEAKER_01: I get a four.
1:19:50
SPEAKER_01: I'll give you a four.
1:19:51
SPEAKER_01: Cool.
1:19:52
SPEAKER_01: That's great.
1:19:53
SPEAKER_00: That's a fun game.
1:19:55
SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna try and do it with whatever the mo the topic is, basically.
1:20:00
SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna keep that as the thing.
1:20:02
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
1:20:04
SPEAKER_00: Okay.
1:20:04
SPEAKER_00: Final top uh final thing before we go.
1:20:07
SPEAKER_00: Uh just a quick couple minutes, but uh have you got a movie that's the reverse of this, which is a movie that's considered highly rated and everything and and well reviewed and loved by people and critics that you think is actually bad?
1:20:20
SPEAKER_01: Um it feels so hard to like shit on the You don't have to shit on something, but like I have two that I'm thinking of.
1:20:30
SPEAKER_00: Sometimes people are careful.
1:20:31
SPEAKER_00: I don't I understand that.
1:20:33
SPEAKER_00: I understand.
1:20:34
SPEAKER_01: I I well here's what I'll say.
1:20:38
SPEAKER_00: I should have gone back and listened to what Kat said.
1:20:40
SPEAKER_01: Oh, why?
1:20:41
SPEAKER_01: Because you think it'll be the same one?
1:20:42
SPEAKER_00: No, no, I'm just curious like what she once said, because she's on the sort of like the same circles.
1:20:47
SPEAKER_01: Well, I'm yeah, I I just I I will I will preface it with like, I don't think I'm right, but there's movies that just like didn't hit with me.
1:20:58
SPEAKER_01: Um I'm gonna go the safer route.
1:21:01
SPEAKER_01: I think I think Licorice Pizza.
1:21:07
SPEAKER_01: I just didn't buy that movie.
1:21:09
SPEAKER_01: I agree with a 25-year-old woman was in love with a 15-year-old woman.
1:21:14
SPEAKER_01: I did not like that movie.
1:21:15
SPEAKER_01: I know it was the 70s, but I'm like, sorry.
1:21:18
SPEAKER_01: I just my boyfriend's little brother is 10 years younger than me, and I'm like, there and he's bright, charming, and funny.
1:21:24
SPEAKER_01: Never in a million fucking years would I ever look at a 15-year-old boy and like be charmed by him to date him.
1:21:31
SPEAKER_01: Like I so I just like I couldn't I hated that movie.
1:21:35
SPEAKER_01: I really get annoyed when it's like when something's so revered, and I'm like, you know how many like like female stories or like just stuff where it's like, really?
1:21:49
SPEAKER_01: Like I don't know.
1:21:51
SPEAKER_01: But I don't think it was bad.
1:21:52
SPEAKER_01: I just like it just.
1:21:54
SPEAKER_00: No, I don't think it was a bad movie.
1:21:55
SPEAKER_00: I just did I I just hated it personally.
1:21:57
SPEAKER_00: I just really didn't like the st I didn't like the story.
1:22:00
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
1:22:01
SPEAKER_01: I thought I thought it was like the vibe was great and it was awesome.
1:22:04
SPEAKER_00: I think it was shot really well.
1:22:05
SPEAKER_01: It was shot well and it was cool, and the actors and the awesome and PTA like it's all all the elements.
1:22:12
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
1:22:12
SPEAKER_01: But I was just like, couldn't he have been 21?
1:22:16
SPEAKER_01: Couldn't even couldn't he have been like 19 15?
1:22:20
SPEAKER_01: He's learning geometry, and this like girl about to get off her health insurance is interested in him.
1:22:25
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
1:22:26
SPEAKER_01: I just don't buy it.
1:22:27
SPEAKER_00: I hated that.
1:22:28
SPEAKER_00: I didn't like that, and I didn't like the weird Asian stuff in it as well.
1:22:30
SPEAKER_00: Like the weird Oh yeah.
1:22:32
SPEAKER_01: I thought that was so strange.
1:22:33
SPEAKER_00: I just really didn't like it.
1:22:35
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
1:22:35
SPEAKER_00: Made me uncomfortable.
1:22:36
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
1:22:37
SPEAKER_01: I mean, uh a lot of those like period movies, sometimes it can be like, are we just like romanticized?
1:22:43
SPEAKER_01: Like sometimes it could feel like when it's like just romanticizing like the way things used to be.
1:22:47
SPEAKER_01: And it's like But I could be dead wrong and I just done it.
1:22:53
SPEAKER_00: He's done like 70s movies before he did book Boogie Nights, which is amazing.
1:22:56
SPEAKER_01: Which is amazing.
1:22:56
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
1:22:57
SPEAKER_01: So yeah, I guess it's like, yeah, I don't know.
1:22:59
SPEAKER_01: I just I just as as oh uh as a 26-year-old who was, I think, twenty-five when I came out, I was just like wouldn't be me.
1:23:08
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
1:23:08
SPEAKER_00: But No, I I completely agree.
1:23:10
SPEAKER_01: That'll be the one that that'll be my one.
1:23:12
SPEAKER_00: I'm fully with you on that.
1:23:13
SPEAKER_00: Cool.

1:23:25
SPEAKER_01: I leave my flights at twelve, which means I had to wake up at like eight.
1:23:27
SPEAKER_01: I'll say you gotta like finish packing.
1:23:29
SPEAKER_00: Are you staying out tonight then?
1:23:30
SPEAKER_01: Or are you just going to I was gonna like hang out at the bar after.
1:23:33
SPEAKER_01: We'll see.
1:23:34
SPEAKER_01: I'm sure it'll be one of those things where I get like four hours of sleep and then I sleep the whole flight home.
1:23:37
SPEAKER_01: Hopefully it's an eight-hour flight, which is miserable.
1:23:39
SPEAKER_00: Uh eight-hour flight back to New York.
1:23:42
SPEAKER_01: I mean, they say that.
1:23:43
SPEAKER_01: It usually winds up being like seven and a half.
1:23:45
SPEAKER_01: Like they it always looks like they always list it longer.
1:23:47
SPEAKER_01: But it's it's yeah, it's longer to go home than it is to come here.
1:23:50
SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's right.
1:23:50

1:24:33
SPEAKER_01: I made it when I was like so unabashedly confident starting comedy, like like just like so full of myself and and so I made it ironically, but now to me it feels so like cringy.
