- 0:00Speaker 1: Friday night, Yukon Wilmit will collide with North Carolina's Tar
- 0:03Speaker 1: Heels in Greensboro and the Husky's first game against the
- 0:05Speaker 1: ranked opponent. Bomb Joyce teb Fisk of all the action
- 0:08Speaker 1: beginning at five point thirty here along the Yukon Sports Network,
- 0:11Speaker 1: the Varsity Network, gap in the Varsita Network, dot Com
- 0:14Speaker 1: and Tom we were talking about some of these young
- 0:18Speaker 1: guys that Dan and the staff have recruited. The guy
- 0:22Speaker 1: who was intriguing, obviously, Liam mcneely's second McDonald's All American
- 0:27Speaker 1: has come to Yukon all the way from Texas to
- 0:31Speaker 1: Husky Country. What's that transition been like for him? Because
- 0:35Speaker 1: he looks like he is already made player on this level,
- 0:39Speaker 1: He's been great.
- 0:40Speaker 2: I mean, he's got a he's got a real offensive
- 0:44Speaker 2: confidence and a ton of offensive game, very advanced IQ shooter, cutter, passer.
- 0:54Speaker 2: He's got to get better defensively, and he's at the
- 0:57Speaker 2: best place in the country to get toughened and to
- 1:01Speaker 2: get better in that sense, both probably on the ball
- 1:04Speaker 2: and off the ball. Sometimes his readiness off the ball
- 1:08Speaker 2: for screens and stuff isn't always quite there. But jeez,
- 1:12Speaker 2: offensively he's he's very good. He fits very well Mike
- 1:17Speaker 2: into what we do. The coolest thing I thought about
- 1:20Speaker 2: him when him and his family came on the visit
- 1:24Speaker 2: is I just I just he had such a maturity
- 1:26Speaker 2: about him. It was like it was not about you know, nil,
- 1:30Speaker 2: it was not about any kind of nonsense. It was about, like,
- 1:33Speaker 2: I have a feeling, I thought on the visit, he
- 1:36Speaker 2: sort of came to the visit with like, I have
- 1:38Speaker 2: a feeling this is the best place, and I'm gonna
- 1:40Speaker 2: like dig in to make sure that it is. He
- 1:43Speaker 2: was about like the X and O was watching film
- 1:46Speaker 2: and he saw it, you know, he saw how good coaches,
- 1:50Speaker 2: and he saw how good the offense is and how
- 1:53Speaker 2: he could be featured. And I just thought he was
- 1:55Speaker 2: super mature through the whole process.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Yeah, that's you can't have enough of those kind of guys.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Speaking of which, I know there were a lot of
- 2:02Speaker 1: important dates last year and championship dates and Big East
- 2:05Speaker 1: Tournament wins, but May twenty nine, Tom, I'm Gonna submit
- 2:09Speaker 1: to you was a pretty darn important date. And you
- 2:11Speaker 1: know what that was. Alex Caravan, withdrew from the NBA draft,
- 2:15Speaker 1: said he was coming back to college. That guy is.
- 2:20Speaker 1: I think Dan's called him a savant, a cyborg. He's
- 2:23Speaker 1: got all kinds of names for him. I run out
- 2:26Speaker 1: of stuff. I mean special, k that guy is a
- 2:29Speaker 1: special player and a special person. Having him back has
- 2:32Speaker 1: to be a real treat for you guys.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Yeah, Mike, he's just he's so good. I mean, coach
- 2:39Speaker 2: has said publicly that I think like he felt everything
- 2:43Speaker 2: changed like when Alex got here. Like offensively, it was
- 2:47Speaker 2: almost like Alex freed up so much of the stuff
- 2:51Speaker 2: that that coach wanted to do and was thinking of doing.
- 2:53Speaker 2: And there were a lot of things I think coach
- 2:55Speaker 2: wanted to do with those teams. Two teams previous to
- 2:58Speaker 2: Alex being here and a team previous to Alex being here,
- 3:02Speaker 2: but we were somewhat limited by some of the some
- 3:04Speaker 2: of the limitations some of the guys in those spots.
- 3:07Speaker 2: But once he got here, it just unlocked everything we
- 3:10Speaker 2: felt offensively, and he add so much to the culture
- 3:14Speaker 2: of work and total commitment. He's like basketball through and through.
- 3:20Speaker 2: And it's funny, like, in my opinion, these first two games,
- 3:23Speaker 2: you know, even though we've won big and they've been
- 3:24Speaker 2: against lesser teams. I mean, He's filled a stat sheet
- 3:28Speaker 2: just by playing. You know, he's he's just he's not
- 3:31Speaker 2: hunting shots, he's not trying to score points. He's just,
- 3:34Speaker 2: you know, he's not playing like he's got this weight
- 3:36Speaker 2: of being a first team All Big East Guy, Big
- 3:39Speaker 2: East Player of the Year, or even first team All
- 3:41Speaker 2: American like he got today from the Sporting News. It's
- 3:43Speaker 2: like he's just playing at a high level. He's doing
- 3:47Speaker 2: a little of everything, and he's filling the stat sheet.
- 3:50Speaker 2: It was obviously huge for us when he decided to
- 3:53Speaker 2: come back, and and we're excited because he's betting on himself.
- 3:57Speaker 2: You know, he's betting that that, like he'll have such
- 3:58Speaker 2: a great year this year, prove his NBA stuck.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Yeah, he's one of my favorite, that's for sure. And
- 4:03Speaker 1: we're glad he's back. Alex Caravan, Tom, we appreciate it.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Great run for the Huskies, great run for you in
- 4:10Speaker 1: your career. And someday you're getting a sweatshirt like Gino
- 4:14Speaker 1: and Chris Daily in that bookstore. If I've got anything
- 4:17Speaker 1: to do with it, If I've got anything to do
- 4:19Speaker 1: with it, I will speak to David Benedict. If you
- 4:22Speaker 1: want me to.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Mike we got four sales, me, you, my mother, and
- 4:28Speaker 2: who else?
- 4:29Speaker 1: Wayne Norman.
- 4:29Speaker 2: We said right by the first fourth, So we're all right, all.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Right, I'm on it, all right, Tom, appreciate it. Thanks.
- 4:36Speaker 1: That's the Yukon Men's Basketball Coaches Show. Husky's got some
- 4:39Speaker 1: games to play. Let's get into it. Mike chris Pino,
- 4:42Speaker 1: thanks for joining us. Keep listening, folks,
