- 0:06Hello. What's your least favorite scary
- 0:08movie? Welcome to.
- 0:14What's your least favorite scary movie, the podcast, where we
- 0:16talked about the good, the bad, the ugly, in the Absurd.
- 0:19And everybody is most and least, favorite scary movie because we
- 0:22believe every horror movie rightfully, has its fanbase,
- 0:25even if we don't always understand why.
- 0:26My name is Jesse. My name is Travis.
- 0:28And today, we are talking about a James Wan classic.
- 0:32You might be thinking. We're talking about many of his
- 0:36classic horror movies, you know, beloved horror movies that most
- 0:39people like yeah, the country. I saw Annabelle Aquaman.
- 0:46Wait what he did Aquaman really didn't know that?
- 0:49No, he Fast and Furious. Which one the one that made a
- 0:55lot of money? A lot of them.
- 0:57No, I made a go over a billion dollars.
- 1:00I think it's like 6 or 9, I don't fucking know.
- 1:02I don't know anything about that.
- 1:03Sears. We're talking about malignant
- 1:05today, everybody because Malignant.
- 1:10Yeah, I was just, I don't know, it's not a classic, but it's a
- 1:16fun movie that, you know, generally when people talk about
- 1:21James, one and classic save, you know, they think about those but
- 1:27I wanted to talk about a James one movie, that doesn't
- 1:30necessarily get the love that. I think that it deserves.
- 1:34So I chose malignant this week, it's a very bizarre movie.
- 1:39We've seen a lot of people have their own very strong, opinions
- 1:43about it online. What are you smiling at me?
- 1:45For just your choice and the use of the word classic?
- 1:51It's not a classic. I'm just kidding, like, I'm
- 1:53just, I'm, I'm throwing people off of my, we're talking about a
- 1:56classic James one movie and, you know, I mean, they're clicking
- 2:01on this scene, this magnet, but, you know, maybe I'm tricking
- 2:04them, they're like, oh, he's talking about saw your being
- 2:06malignant right now. I just came up with that.
- 2:12I'm not proud of, you should be proud of yourself.
- 2:18Okay, yes, we get started. I've got a couple of
- 2:21announcements and that's that we like to get everybody's movie
- 2:26reviews each week and we are very, very excited about them.
- 2:30We really firmly believe in having discussion about it.
- 2:34That's the whole point of our podcast and especially when
- 2:37Travis, I generally agree about how we feel about a movie.
- 2:40It's good to get other people's perspectives on it.
- 2:44But as we're getting more and more reviews coming, In the
- 2:47unfortunate reality is that occasionally we will miss some
- 2:50reviews or we just won't have the time capabilities to read
- 2:55them. So if you've sent us a review
- 2:57and we haven't read it our apologies, it's nothing personal
- 3:01we promise but there is another type of review that we're going
- 3:06to continue to make an effort to read right now until you guys,
- 3:09you know, finally start just pouring in the love for us and
- 3:14reviewing our podcast. Would you can do super easily on
- 3:18Apple podcast, podcast Acer, you can give us a number star rating
- 3:24on Spotify. You can do all of that.
- 3:26We've gotten a couple really, really lovely reviews written
- 3:29reviews on Apple podcast, that Travis is going to read for us
- 3:32right now. Yes, so, the first one comes
- 3:36from 92 SuperSonics. They say, fun, and original.
- 3:40That's the title. And it's not the review.
- 3:42Oh, I'm just wondering if there are 92 Supersonics, It's like
- 3:471992, I'm thinking 1992, you know, let us know.
- 3:53There are almost 100 SuperSonics running around somewhere.
- 3:56Well, they say, give it a listen, the hosts are great.
- 3:59It's a fun show and the selections are varied, which
- 4:02that's I like to hear that. The people think the selections
- 4:05are very that try and keep it very.
- 4:08I'm sure you do too. We did have a couple of months
- 4:10where we were just stuck in the 80s.
- 4:13Yeah, that's a fun era for talking about movies.
- 4:16It is man. There's a lot of gyms in there.
- 4:18There's a lot of fun things and a lot of just really crazy shit
- 4:24so but yes, thank you so much. They were rated five stars.
- 4:27So yeah, really fun. And then we have Michael Lee,
- 4:31Howard know it says must listen for horror fans.
- 4:35Yay. The review says, okay, it's a
- 4:39pretty decent length one, but I'll run through real quick.
- 4:42I'm not sure how I stumbled upon this podcast but it is one of
- 4:45the best decisions I ever made. Someone who has spent a lot of
- 4:47time analyzing trying to, or trying to convince others to
- 4:50enjoy horror movies like I do the show hits the spot.
- 4:54I enjoy the banter between the host.
- 4:55There are some fun and serious discussions.
- 4:57That will keep you thinking whopping and responding in
- 4:59agreement or disagreement. I have free watch so many movies
- 5:02in preparation for future episodes.
- 5:04And seeing all these movies in a while on a whole new life, if
- 5:07you are a critic or just want to have fun, analyzing your
- 5:10favorite horror movies. This one's for you.
- 5:12Thank you so much. That was so sweet.
- 5:14That's the goal of what we want. Our podcast is for people to
- 5:17either agree or disagree. Yeah, it's it's it's valid to
- 5:22have different opinions. Yes, they're all welcome.
- 5:25I think the only opinion that we would say around here that it's
- 5:28not valid to disagree with is that fuck Nazis, right.
- 5:33Yeah if you if you disagree with that statement that's not a
- 5:36valid opinion. Well I'm sure that's not the
- 5:39only thing that we you know that's not the only acceptable
- 5:42but that's a class or senior year.
- 5:46What we all agreed that a moral truth was that, it's never okay
- 5:49to kick a baby. I guess that's where we landed.
- 5:52I can't remember. That sounds about right?
- 5:54Yeah. That was a weird Quest.
- 5:56It was a joint psychology and philosophy class.
- 6:00It was an elective, I believe Travis into taking with me so it
- 6:04was fun. It was anyways.
- 6:06Anyway, so thank you so much for those reviews.
- 6:09It really makes our day when we read those, we really, we just
- 6:12appreciate hearing from you guys, we appreciate interacting
- 6:15on social media. Dia.
- 6:16And you guys already know that I'm about to segue into our
- 6:19plugs up front today. So you can find us on Facebook.
- 6:22You can find us on Instagram at least favorite scary movie
- 6:25podcast. You can find us on Twitter.
- 6:27At least fav pod, you can find our website at.
- 6:29What's your least favorite. Scary movie.com.
- 6:32And you can email us at least very scary movie and gmail.com.
- 6:36Yeah, okay, yeah. Travis, you got it.
- 6:40You got it. You got it.
- 6:41Okay. I'm gonna cut all of that and
- 6:44then you're just going to sound like a bully laughing at me.
- 6:46No reason. That's I need everybody to know.
- 6:49I am getting over being really sick and he's bullying me
- 6:52because my brain is still rattle.
- 6:54No no, yeah, so sorry being so mean he knows it been really
- 6:57sick actually. No he didn't know, I was in the
- 7:00bathroom there. I got for over two hours, and he
- 7:02was asleep the entire time. I know now and spend days.
- 7:05Anyways, let's get on to the polls.
- 7:07So, we did a poll for Halloween and I highly debated topic for
- 7:10that episode and pretty much most of them going forward is,
- 7:14do you guys think will Loomis is a good?
- 7:16Psychiatrists so took it to Twitter and Instagram.
- 7:20So on Twitter, it is a 75 to 25 percent rating.
- 7:27Okay 75%. Say that he's not.
- 7:32Yeah. Travis thought.
- 7:34Nobody would agree with me. He thought I was crazy.
- 7:37Thank you all for validating me. Vindicate, you know you're only
- 7:41this is just Twitter. Dude, I've got like the other
- 7:45ones. So Instagram, this one had way
- 7:50more, this one had a lot of people vote.
- 7:53Okay, so we have like, really good sample size for this one.
- 7:56I'm also really proud of the little, like answers that I gave
- 8:00here. So, if you vote, Yes, it says he
- 8:02was doing very well last night, and no is you must think me a
- 8:07very Sinister, doctor all quotes from Ole Miss in the movie,
- 8:10whenever you do that, he was doing very well last night, you
- 8:13kind of go halfway into a Kermit impression.
- 8:16Hmm. Maybe.
- 8:20Anyways, so on there. It's split 50-50.
- 8:26Ha ha, which is crazy with the amount of people that we had
- 8:29vote. So it's there's good.
- 8:32There's people that think that is a good one.
- 8:34To there's people that side with me you win like by default
- 8:38counting the Twitter one, but I'm just saying there's a lot of
- 8:42people that agree with me. I'm just saying that I am.
- 8:47Glad there are people out there that agree with me, because for
- 8:50a long time, you didn't think that anybody else would either
- 8:54like know everybody loves Loomis, you're crazy.
- 8:57Nobody is going to agree with you there.
- 8:59And then, what do you know? I think everybody does love
- 9:01lumens, but they recognize that he's not a good psychiatrist.
- 9:05I think that's what the thing is.
- 9:07Kind of today, we're talking about malignant.
- 9:11Came out in 2021 currently you can stream it on HBO Max or Hulu
- 9:16premium which Travis tells me is redundant to say because you get
- 9:19Hulu premiums through an HBO. Know it's Hulu premium is add-on
- 9:25so you can subscribe to HBO through there or you can
- 9:28subscribe to Showtime or whatever you're basically just
- 9:31getting it through HBO if you do it through that.
- 9:33Okay. Yeah.
- 9:35You could also rent or buy it through YouTube Vudu, Google
- 9:38play or prime and boy oh boy. You are listening in and you
- 9:43have not seen this movie, you just like to listen to our show,
- 9:46totally valid respect that, I do that sometimes with other
- 9:49podcasts. If you have any inkling that you
- 9:54might want to watch this movie, stop this podcast right now and
- 9:57go watch it because it's going to be impossible for us to even
- 10:01give like our pre discussion thoughts without like massive
- 10:04fucking spoilers. Okay?
- 10:05I didn't know how we were going to handle that, so that's,
- 10:08that's cool. So that's what.
- 10:09That's where we're at with that. It's, it's, it was a very
- 10:12divisive movie when it came out and I can understand why.
- 10:15Yeah, and we'll get to that. But I just wanna let everybody
- 10:17know. If you think that, you might
- 10:18have any possible interest in watching this and you haven't
- 10:21watched it yet. Your souls a favor.
- 10:22Watch it before like getting it spoiled.
- 10:24Yeah, because it's, you know, obviously there's like twists
- 10:28and turns in this. But, you know, to have this one
- 10:31ruined, it, it kind of takes a lot out of it, I think.
- 10:35Yeah. Like, you need to watch this.
- 10:37Not knowing what happens going into it.
- 10:39So, do that come back with some to our thoughts whatever, or,
- 10:43you know, you can listen to us talk about it and then watch it
- 10:45after the fact. I mean I enjoyed it just as much
- 10:48this time around as I did the first time.
- 10:49Yeah, but we didn't have it ruined for us, too.
- 10:51First time, that's true. So that's true.
- 10:54But yeah. So we're talking about malignant
- 10:56came out in 2021. The clot that classic 2021
- 11:02movie. Yeah, modern classic, whatever.
- 11:05I was it was a joke from the beginning and now you're just
- 11:08running within making it sound. Like I was being serious,
- 11:11calling it a classic. So you're being serious.
- 11:14I said you were being malignant. Okay.
- 11:16Whatever. Anyways, this movie came out in
- 11:212021, as we said and it was one of the movies that was
- 11:25simultaneously released in theaters and at home on HBO.
- 11:30Yeah. Because it's a wonder Brothers
- 11:31movie. Yep.
- 11:33So do, do do, do, do do, do you remember those commercials know
- 11:37like little singing frog? I remember a frog.
- 11:41I don't remember. Don't remember it at the scene,
- 11:46but as I said before, this movie was directed by James won.
- 11:51This is a lot of people think that this movie was like, Wonder
- 11:57Brothers, gave him the green light to go do whatever the fuck
- 11:59he wanted to because of the massive successes had
- 12:01previously. That's not the fact here, they
- 12:04didn't do maze. Just distributed the movie and
- 12:07they didn't fund it or anything like that.
- 12:08They went independently with Starlight media for this one.
- 12:12Okay. So They actually gave him the
- 12:16ability to make this off the wall movie, because they have
- 12:19full confidence in him. I mean, they're just a
- 12:22independent movie studio. So they're going to like, if
- 12:25somebody like James one, is wanting to make a movie like
- 12:28this. I mean, yeah, it's gonna say it
- 12:31like I think even without Warner, Brothers, Distributing
- 12:34it. I think there are a lot of
- 12:36horror fans that would see James one's name and be like, Oh
- 12:39least, check it out, which was kind of like, we went into it.
- 12:42I like James wine has a lot of hits for me.
- 12:46I don't think I've seen anything from him that I've not liked.
- 12:49All right, never know, fully what to expect is kind of what I
- 12:52was getting at with it. So but you know when I heard
- 12:56anyone was coming out I heard it was really divisive.
- 12:58One was coming out, that's pretty good.
- 13:03That's better than most ignorant.
- 13:04No, it's not. Sorry, I didn't mean to.
- 13:14I didn't mean the thunder strike you.
- 13:17Not with the thunder strike again.
- 13:19I've been saying that to so many people.
- 13:20I say at the people at work too. You can sing it to d'Italia all
- 13:23weekend. Well we've been saying she's
- 13:26been Thunder striking people. I'm not meaning the
- 13:28thunderstrike anybody, I'm just not and I can tell that I
- 13:31obviously am anyway. So there's a new It was about,
- 13:37but I know he's devised of and I'm like, well, alright, cool
- 13:40gonna go watch it. So that's what we did.
- 13:42We saw in theaters the first time.
- 13:44Yeah. I mean, we streamed it at home
- 13:47this weekend. Yeah.
- 13:48So anyways this give us some background.
- 13:53Yeah. So a lot of people would
- 13:55probably think that this is all from him but this was actually
- 13:58pitched to him. And kind of is like the
- 14:01brainchild of his wife. Oh correct, the movie with them
- 14:05and Ingrid bisou. They both kind of came up with
- 14:08the idea together and it started off with the idea of conjoined
- 14:13twins and it kind of snowballed from there.
- 14:16Okay, not from a nightmare, like most people seem to think she's
- 14:21made that very clear. It just kind of became something
- 14:24that came out of her fascination with medical.
- 14:29I don't know, just like medical research.
- 14:31She just did a lot of, a lot of digging into things like that
- 14:35and was inspired. So she came up with this idea
- 14:38and pitched it to him. He was all for it.
- 14:40It was clearly 100% medically accurate.
- 14:44Yeah, like human centipede. Yeah.
- 14:46Yeah. But the screenplay was written
- 14:49by Kelly Cooper. So yeah.
- 14:51They did their part of. I don't know that they've
- 14:55collaborated with James 1 and several other movies.
- 15:00But what do you think this is? You think it's budget or bugs
- 15:04headlight because our, it's not Not funded by Warner Bros.
- 15:07It's an independent Studio that did this, but it is a pretty
- 15:11fucking crazy movie. Yeah, I mean, the effects are
- 15:15just so intense. I'm going to say it's is budget
- 15:23like lower budget but it's give me a guess greater than
- 15:26bug-head? No, really.
- 15:29Guess you don't. That's not what our that's not
- 15:31what our format is. Well, we can just do things off
- 15:35the fire. I don't want to guess.
- 15:36All right. Well, it's major budget, man.
- 15:40It's big budget. It's movie had a 40 million
- 15:43dollar budget. All right, that's budget.
- 15:45Yeah. But you'd be surprised this
- 15:48movie is actually a lot of practical effects.
- 15:51There's not a lot of like yeah, I I'm not saying that I thought
- 15:58it was all like computer effects.
- 16:01I'm just saying there's a lot of effects to it.
- 16:04Yeah, I know. I'm just saying specifically,
- 16:05like the Inception like scene Fades.
- 16:07Yeah. No.
- 16:08I mean, I'm just saying like a lot of people look at this movie
- 16:11and they're like oh this is obviously all animated.
- 16:14But really it's a lot of action sequences which is a lot of
- 16:18training and stunt doubling and wiring and stuff to.
- 16:22Yeah. But I mean a lot of this stuff
- 16:24is practical despite a lot of the things in this movie.
- 16:27Be looking like it's CGI like Gabriel is all like legitimately
- 16:32portrayed by people, the his face especially that seen kind
- 16:38of towards the end when we go, we'll get him, that's
- 16:41animatronics purely. So it's a really nice maybe I
- 16:45wish I could list. Everybody that worked on the
- 16:48makeup, team on this and the special effects because they did
- 16:51an amazing job but that was so fucking long.
- 16:53I would be reading it for most of this.
- 16:56So I'm sorry, but shout out to those people, they did a great
- 16:59job, good job. But this movie did not make a
- 17:03lot of money made 34 million. But you got to remember, came
- 17:08out during peak of a time. Well, not maybe peak of its
- 17:12time, but big covid. It's so casually it.
- 17:15But I mean also, it had that HBO thing going.
- 17:18So what people watched it at home, honestly, it was going on
- 17:21during a lower point in code. It was near the end of Delta.
- 17:26Before Omicron came out. Yeah, we life was gonna get
- 17:29better again. We're like yeah, we're gonna go
- 17:31to the movies. Ha ha yes, game on September
- 17:33last year so I remember September much more hopeful
- 17:36time. Yeah, but so yeah it was it's
- 17:40kind of considered a flop in that sense.
- 17:42But really I think it probably did find on the streaming
- 17:45service worldwide grosses. Now that like it's fully
- 17:50released now available for purchase and whatnot but let's
- 17:54get into the cast. Here we have.
- 17:56George Young plays Detective kokoa good question.
- 18:00Uh could kosha Cocoa's his first name.
- 18:02He's detective Shaw, I'm just going by The names, we know, did
- 18:08they call him kokoa and the movie the entire time?
- 18:10And he's detective. So let me do my thing, man.
- 18:14Let me do it. Michelle Brianna white plays
- 18:18Detective Moss Regina Moss. Yeah I'm going with whatever
- 18:24Rings better. They don't really say their name
- 18:25much. I just got her name.
- 18:26Mostly from her placard on it. Yeah they don't ever say her
- 18:30name. So Marina.
- 18:34M' oppa. She plays Gabriel.
- 18:37Okay. So the interesting thing about
- 18:39her, do you know about how they were able to capture the
- 18:41movements in this? Let's finish reading off the
- 18:43cast and then we'll talk about this okay?
- 18:45I just I don't want to get sidetracked.
- 18:47Let's get through the cast. It's not sidetracked if it's
- 18:49relevant. Yeah.
- 18:50But we have These are fun facts. Just read off the cast.
- 18:55All right, Troy James also plays Gabriel.
- 18:58Okay Maddie, hasson plays Sydney, okay and Annabelle,
- 19:03Wallis plays Madison. What if they had Maddie play
- 19:06Madison? I know I was just thinking that
- 19:09that would have been awesome. You think it got confusing on
- 19:11sale? That's probably why she didn't
- 19:13get the role in there. I will just cast you as a
- 19:14sister. I'm so sorry, it's just too
- 19:16confusing. That's the cast.
- 19:19Do you think James Wan got confused with an antebellum set?
- 19:24He's like, this is the wrong movie, leave?
- 19:26No, he probably cast her because of that.
- 19:29Good luck. He's like I don't want to be
- 19:32haunted. Got a Caster.
- 19:33Yeah, so yeah, that's the gas. Okay.
- 19:36And crew, okay. All right, what I was going to
- 19:38say about the whole thing? Do you know how Gabriel like how
- 19:42they were able to capture the whole movement of that
- 19:44character? Wow, They hired contortionists.
- 19:49Okay. So throughout this whole movie,
- 19:52like the way that everything looks so awkward.
- 19:55Again, we're talking about spoilers because you know, I
- 19:57can't talk about this movie without talking about feel like
- 20:00we've already spoiled it. We've already mentioned
- 20:02conjoined twins. Well, yeah, I guess kind of, but
- 20:07not kind of, that's the twist. Well, whatever.
- 20:10I mean, kind of a kind of my like I mean, you can talk about
- 20:13that. But That doesn't really twist.
- 20:16I give you like the big thing. What?
- 20:21No, no, no, please don't do that.
- 20:23I'm sick of that. I'm so sick of having to hear
- 20:26that shit. I'm sorry.
- 20:29But yeah I would you say that the like a pressure that just
- 20:34should choke choke and it's ready to pop.
- 20:37You think I'm getting but I'm not legitimately done with
- 20:41Encanto, it's over with, I'm done with it.
- 20:45Anyways, so yeah, they got contortionists to play the
- 20:47character. They're actually moving
- 20:49backwards to any performance that you see, Gabriel in this
- 20:52movie. Yeah.
- 20:55You act like that's so fucking obvious there.
- 20:57Looks like it's fake. Like whenever I'm watching that
- 20:59stuff in the movie, is it looks like it's not right?
- 21:02Like, it looks like somebody's animating that.
- 21:05That's why I'm thinking. People think that this movie is
- 21:07like a hugely CGI base because really, it's a lot of the stuff
- 21:10is like legitimate practical effects.
- 21:13Well, I think partly partly partially.
- 21:15That's the way that James Wan director, because a lot of
- 21:18people said the same thing about the Crooked Man in The Conjuring
- 21:202. When that was not animated at
- 21:22all either. Yeah.
- 21:24Well, I mean, kind of because that one really the really
- 21:27weird, but I don't know how I did that honestly, because that
- 21:31just looks like it's stop motion.
- 21:33But, um, yeah. So they had two people play it
- 21:36because they wanted. So primarily it's Marina that
- 21:40plays Gabriel but for scenes that were, they had that a cab
- 21:44Gabriel, have more of like a masculine type of appearance.
- 21:47That's where they got Troy James the poem.
- 21:49So, yeah, they actually got contortionists.
- 21:52They're able to manipulate their body and crazy.
- 21:54Ways and are actually walking backwards and Performing all
- 21:56these stunts naturally, what they were going to do originally
- 21:58was there were gonna just rewind like reverse the recordings that
- 22:02way, you know, that would have been fine too, but they found
- 22:06out that they didn't have to once they found this person.
- 22:08So it's really cool. You're not as impressed with
- 22:10that as I thought you were going to be you're just like oh
- 22:12fucking yeah. I mean it looks like there are
- 22:15walking backwards. Okay.
- 22:17I guess I'm just stupid then and you know I thought people
- 22:20thought that it was you know, animated I thought Wasn't real.
- 22:25Whenever I watched it, I mean, I knew going into it this time
- 22:29that Gabriel was in the back of Maddie's head.
- 22:33So I was paying a lot more attention to it.
- 22:35Whereas the first time we're watching, I was just like, weird
- 22:37jerky movements. Like, so this time watching it,
- 22:40I was like, okay, that makes sense backwards.
- 22:43The movements made sense to me. It never looked sorry.
- 22:47It never looked like animated to me, just looked Creepy and
- 22:51jerky. Oh, good eye!
- 22:53You didn't, you figured it out. So sir sir.
- 22:58Yeah, well I'm giving you I'm giving you attitude.
- 23:00Yeah, sir. All right, I'm done, I'm done
- 23:04with my pre facts and fun facts and things like that you pre
- 23:11facts in your fun facts. Yeah, I had my pre facts when I
- 23:15was going through the cast and then I had my fun facts
- 23:17afterwards because I'm just having fun at that point.
- 23:20You do not Like you're having fun.
- 23:22I'm not Moving on. Let's go.
- 23:27Okay. So, what do you think of this
- 23:30one? Oh, I really like it.
- 23:32Yeah, this movie is bananas and it's such a good time.
- 23:35I'm not gonna pretend that. I was like the best more heart
- 23:40mess. More horror, and former, I'm not
- 23:43going to pretend that it's like the best horror movie of all
- 23:45time. And I'm not even gonna pretend
- 23:48that it's the most original horror movie of all time because
- 23:51really, what it is. It's a stylized retelling of
- 23:55Basket Case in a way. Yeah.
- 23:59It's not, I mean, it's not the same story because obviously in
- 24:04basket case, you know, the brothers were fully ins and
- 24:09sweet but like it's a similar story of like conjoined twins
- 24:15Belial / Gabriel's really angry at being separated and is taking
- 24:19Vengeance out on the people involved in the surgery.
- 24:23Yeah it really. I mean are the points are the
- 24:27same nobody ever. Actually.
- 24:29We asked him about that they always just asking about like
- 24:34the jaw will influence with this one, which that's definitely
- 24:38there. Yeah, which is weird to me
- 24:40because I feel like people that are going to clock the giallo
- 24:44influence would also be the same type of fucking nerds that would
- 24:49have seen basket case because I'm not gonna open basket case,
- 24:52it's not accessible to the Casual horror fan Basket Case is
- 24:57a weird fucking movie. That's another one of the ones.
- 24:59We were talking about where 80s movies has some really strange
- 25:02movies, Frank Hannon ladder. I'm gonna firmly recommend that
- 25:06to everybody listening to this episode as well.
- 25:09Whether you loved or hated malignant, I feel like you also
- 25:11need to watch Basket Case. Totally very different.
- 25:19While I hope that came through on the mic.
- 25:22It sure did. I guarantee it Travis did a did
- 25:25a basket case cosplay for scare fest.
- 25:27And we went the extra mile by me recording by Belial impression,
- 25:31which I'm not going to do into the mic because it will
- 25:33definitely blow out the audio. Well but that one actually made
- 25:37me realize so many people actually do no basket case.
- 25:39So, maybe a lot of people, you know, we're able to work
- 25:42invention. Yeah.
- 25:43And this is a horror movie. I know I'm just saying malignant
- 25:46was like, More. Well, is that people will see
- 25:51the name James one and they go in expecting a certain type of
- 25:54movie, more accessible. Yeah.
- 25:57But I like it's absolutely bananas.
- 26:00It's not. It seems like it's meant to be
- 26:03played straight, but it's definitely not because some of
- 26:06the lines are so cheesy and delivered.
- 26:09So, over dramatically and it definitely feels like a love
- 26:13letter to like, like you said, to Joe lows, it you feel that
- 26:18the Soundtrack. I wish it went a little bit
- 26:21harder. I wish it was a little bit more
- 26:24Goblin asked at times. Yeah, I do love the use of
- 26:29pixies. That was one of the things I
- 26:32didn't really care for. I've spent the last 24 hours
- 26:35going, I just remember being in theaters watching this.
- 26:40I'm like, are they ripping off the Pixies?
- 26:42I was actually getting pissed off as like, they're fucking
- 26:44ripping it off and then you told me that they sampled it.
- 26:46But, you know, still, I'm just like, that's fucking Pixies.
- 26:49It's just so weird. I don't know.
- 26:51No. Yeah, it subverts some
- 26:54expectations. Liens, hard into some others.
- 26:57And I'm not the biggest action person, but holy shit.
- 27:01If it does not have one of the best most fun action sequences.
- 27:05So, all in all I A really, really good time with this
- 27:09movie. It's enjoyable to watch.
- 27:11I don't feel like it's ever boring.
- 27:14I won't give it a nine and a half.
- 27:15Wow, no big score by now. Yeah.
- 27:20I'll, I'll Echo a lot of what you said because I love this
- 27:23movie, too. I also went into it.
- 27:26So, I went into this movie, like, most people, do they see
- 27:29the name? James one, I've heard about his
- 27:33whole Zhao influence because before this movie even go,
- 27:37Release. He mentioned how he's kind of
- 27:40Taken influenced by that genre. I don't think you like jello.
- 27:43So Travis I don't hate the brand new information, I know.
- 27:46No. You know what?
- 27:46I was all it was, I know I talk about the Malaya.
- 27:49Okay. It's a, it's a recent
- 27:51Fascination that I've had. So I'm going to talk about it
- 27:55and it's relevant to this movie too.
- 27:57So I'm going to talk about it during this movie.
- 28:01I forgot to mention. This is a, he also works on he
- 28:05like rights for a graphic novel. That he created.
- 28:09And the graphic novel is called malignant man.
- 28:13Has no relation to this. It's like a superhero type thing
- 28:16I think so. I wanted people kind of theorize
- 28:19a would have been based off of that too.
- 28:21But no, this is a completely separate thing.
- 28:24But yeah. So, I went into this expecting
- 28:27that and I got something completely different.
- 28:32And a lot of people went into this with those same
- 28:35expectations, you know, going in.
- 28:37What Watching and James one movie.
- 28:39I knew I was going to be not a haunting movie based off of the
- 28:42trailers but the trailers did a really good job of not telling
- 28:44you anything. They just kind of gave you
- 28:47enough to give you like a little bit of interest in it so it's
- 28:54not a hunting movie and at the very beginning it kind of gives
- 28:57you a little. It makes you think that it's
- 29:00going to be one because it's got very James one asks sequences in
- 29:05it. I would say it's Leg kind of a
- 29:09supernatural element to it but it's almost like sci-fi.
- 29:13It's like a Paranormal science fiction, I don't know.
- 29:20Okay. Kind of, yeah, I didn't come out
- 29:22the way I wanted, you know, I get what I get what you're
- 29:26saying, so but I was just so happy with what I got because
- 29:33what we ended up getting was really like, you're getting a b
- 29:38horror movie from the 80s like we've been talking about, but
- 29:42you're giving it to somebody who actually knows how to.
- 29:45Yeah, they have the budget and A competent filmmaker, which a lot
- 29:49of those movies, like they're enduring because you can tell
- 29:52that the heart was there. But the skill, isn't this one
- 29:55right here, has the skill behind it and it has the heart there,
- 29:58too. Like it's a love letter to so
- 30:01many genres that he loves. Yeah.
- 30:03And it's so obvious, it's just, it's like a horror fan stream
- 30:08movie, I think, and it, it doesn't feel over indulgent, no,
- 30:13no way that something like this could be, which is remarkable to
- 30:16say, It's almost two hours but it it's tells a very tight story
- 30:22in that time. Like now, yeah, minute is
- 30:24wasted. No, no, it's really good.
- 30:27Yeah, the characters their over-the-top, my God, I loved
- 30:31every minute of it. You can tell they're meant to be
- 30:34over the top and it's not over-the-top and away.
- 30:36Like ha ha ha. We are going over the top.
- 30:38But yeah, because, you know, big cheesy dialogue.
- 30:41A lot of people, that's one of the complaints that a lot of
- 30:43people have with this one is they say that it's It's just
- 30:47terrible, writing, terrible characters.
- 30:49But I mean, you got to look at the man's track record and
- 30:54realize that, I mean, if this was a type of movie such
- 30:58brilliant lines, as my name is very fucking confused.
- 31:03Was that from this movie? Well, it's from Saw, oh,
- 31:06brilliant. Roll a brilliant line.
- 31:08Yeah, I'm just saying, how did you not get that line?
- 31:12I can't. That's that might have been Lee
- 31:14would know that says, yeah, actually his care.
- 31:16That's Adam. Yeah, I wrote it, but whatever.
- 31:19Oh yeah, but just looking at his past movies like a, I know that
- 31:23the guy knows how to make like a, like a good movie.
- 31:27So I don't think I think that everything that you see on here
- 31:30is completely intentional, and it's great.
- 31:32So Gabriel is one of my favorite recent Killers.
- 31:36Honestly, it's, it's such a cool concept.
- 31:39They know it, the look everything about it.
- 31:42I love how he's able to telepathically communicate
- 31:44through radios and TVs and stuff like that.
- 31:46Phones. Yeah, it's just brilliant man.
- 31:49I fucking love it and I'm not copying you but I was also
- 31:53thinking of mine 9.5 rating for this one.
- 31:55It's so fucking good. It's such a good movie.
- 31:58So yeah, and that's why I chose this movie.
- 32:02A lot of people don't like this movie.
- 32:04We got a lot of reviews from listeners that don't like this
- 32:07movie, but we wanted to. Yeah, like it and we're not
- 32:11shitting on the people that don't know, like ever.
- 32:13I mean you can all of these things can be true and you can
- 32:16still not I like the product that's totally fine.
- 32:18I understand that. I just want to be able to shine
- 32:20some love on a movie. That like, we say, in the, the
- 32:24intro, this every movie has its own fan base, where the fan base
- 32:27for this movie and wouldn't be able to shower with the wolves
- 32:30that we think that it deserves and we will share some of those,
- 32:32not so favorable. Yes, there's give them the
- 32:35space. We will give them.
- 32:36Yes you be valid. Everything is going to be it's
- 32:39going to be even. So we're going to get some hate
- 32:41for this movie at the end to. So it's going to be balanced but
- 32:43that's it. What's the word 9.50?
- 32:46Say, I don't know why I even thought about asking.
- 32:49So yeah, all right, cool. Let's get down to it.
- 32:52Let's do it. Cut out the Cancer.
- 32:54All right, so we started off. Simeon, Research Hospital 1993,
- 32:58there's a doctor, doing a video recording about a subject named
- 33:02Gabriel, strong malicious, perhaps malignant even maybe
- 33:09maybe he. He Oh, she's just like, okay,
- 33:17sorry, we are two lines into this and I'm already struggling
- 33:22with my notes. This is a good sign of things to
- 33:25come. So another like darker or Tech
- 33:31or whatever pops in says he got out.
- 33:34He wants to go home. ECT is having no effect.
- 33:37It's like he's drinking the electricity, controlling, our
- 33:40Electronics. It's all so fucking over the
- 33:43top, like, in the most insane. Bananas way.
- 33:48Yeah it's it's a really good way to set the scene I think.
- 33:52Yeah because I mean again like well it's not I mean you you get
- 33:57the they're telling you how I use.
- 34:00Well no you and makes you think that's paranormal kind of
- 34:04because I mean yeah they're saying he's controlling things
- 34:06with his mind. It feels very X-Men.
- 34:09Yeah. And then all of a sudden like
- 34:10they're walking down the hallway and the security guard or doctor
- 34:12like flies from the room up against the wall.
- 34:15Yeah. Yeah, so yeah, this is crazy.
- 34:18Shit out right away, like they start shooting at this patient
- 34:22in the hospital. They tranq him to get a
- 34:24tranquilizer. That was not a tranquilizer gun
- 34:27that was being shot. Yeah, was a couple.
- 34:30That's not how a tranquilizer. I'm thinking of the one that the
- 34:33main doctor. Yeah.
- 34:34Yeah. But they're like some actually
- 34:35gun fires tranquilizer gun, like, you load one dart at a
- 34:39time, because it's got, she does.
- 34:40Yeah. So yeah.
- 34:43And then we see, like, kind of behind this.
- 34:46Film. A curtain like this little
- 34:49monster baby thing. Kind of like a large version of
- 34:52the baby in the stink from PT. Yeah and he kind of sounds like
- 34:56him too. Yeah.
- 34:58Dad was such a drag PT. The only horror video game
- 35:04reference, we know how to make. Yeah.
- 35:06Because which is stupid because we played several that's
- 35:11relevant. Yeah, we got this like shot of
- 35:15the day. On your face, it's time to cut
- 35:17out the cancer, dramatic music, sting, and then we like during
- 35:21the opening credits. So you can see, like all of
- 35:23these records flashing through the screen, which as you paying
- 35:26more attention to your second time around, you can kind of get
- 35:29hints of what is actually happening.
- 35:31But the first time, you're just like, oh, general, research
- 35:34hospital, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 35:36Yeah, it's also got quips of surgery being performed to where
- 35:39they're actually like cutting off.
- 35:41Yeah, I think is so gross. Gross, gross.
- 35:45Bye. Way if you're ever curious you
- 35:47can totally look up surgery videos on YouTube.
- 35:50Yeah, thank you can look it up. I met Travis look up.
- 35:52How an ACL surgery goes because I looked it up.
- 35:55My doctor tried to get me to watch it before my surgery
- 35:57because I was very nervous and I was like, I don't know if you
- 36:00know how psychology works but that's not gonna make me less
- 36:02nervous and boy. Howdy am I glad that I waited
- 36:06until after I was like, done with physical therapy and
- 36:09everything to watch it. Because that shit is fucking
- 36:11brutal. It's fucked up.
- 36:12It took a hammer to you. It's insane.
- 36:16But yeah. So if you have a morbid
- 36:17fascination with it, they're on there.
- 36:19Look up. Yeah.
- 36:20Look it up. Um So we kept the present day.
- 36:25We see this like really nice-looking home.
- 36:30It's like trying to think of what the right terminology is
- 36:34HGTV would be so disappointed in us.
- 36:39I don't know. It's, I don't know, it's a nice
- 36:42two-story home. Yeah, got character.
- 36:45It's got character. So she pulls up and they're a
- 36:49little beat-up, Toyota Corolla. She looks like a nurse because
- 36:52she's wearing scrubs. Herbs.
- 36:53She looks pregnant because she's pregnant because she's pregnant
- 36:58and she goes inside and the house looks like it's still nice
- 37:03inside but like looks like maybe it needs a little bit extra TLC
- 37:07here and they're really looks like a perfectly fine house to
- 37:10me, it doesn't look like there's anything wrong with it.
- 37:11It's all tidy. She just goes.
- 37:14And I mean, the only thing that looks a little tired inside its
- 37:17really. Yeah.
- 37:18Like, you know, they're just, I don't know.
- 37:21I didn't get any response. Okay, sure she goes into her
- 37:27bedroom because she's clearly tired and her husband's there
- 37:31watching rasslin on the TV really fucking loud.
- 37:34And he was like, he doesn't get off the bed.
- 37:36He's like, hey babe, thought you were working the night shift and
- 37:39she's like, well, I was supposed to but I'm just like, really
- 37:41tired little dumplings. Got me, so war and exhausted,
- 37:45which I hear is a common side effect of pregnancy.
- 37:48So, you know, there you go. And she like, He turns off the
- 37:54TV, like, he's like telling her that she needs to take it easy.
- 37:58And she turns off the TV, she's tired.
- 37:59She's like, hey, I just don't want to go to bed and he's with
- 38:02book turned TV off on me, bitch. And she's like, I need to lay
- 38:06down. Also, there's a TV downstairs.
- 38:08So he's I mean, this guy's an asshole.
- 38:11I fuck. Fuck Derek fuck.
- 38:13Fuck fucking Derek. And it's a shitty one for like,
- 38:17it's mean, but I love it because he/she, he says her Maybe you
- 38:23need to stop being pregnant, which that's like another one of
- 38:27those things where it sounds. So fucking stupid.
- 38:29But they play it straight. And really, I thought it was
- 38:32kind of funny. Like, that's to me, that's like
- 38:34a dead giveaway. Oh, this movies.
- 38:36It's one of those movies. It's being weird.
- 38:39Yeah. Well, I mean, they don't even
- 38:41try and like hide the fact that he's an abusive piece of shit.
- 38:44Like they're just like, no, you know what?
- 38:46We're going to kill him in five minutes.
- 38:48Anyway, let's just go ahead and Hammer the point home.
- 38:50No settled you needed and you know what we got.
- 38:53Got zero subtlety because he goes from I'm not gonna say he
- 38:57goes from 0 to 10 because he already started off.
- 38:59Pretty pretty high. He's he goes from 8 to 10 pretty
- 39:01quickly. Yeah, yeah.
- 39:04And like Throws her up against a.
- 39:07He got punches her and throw her up against the wall up and she
- 39:11does, I didn't see, I just thought really?
- 39:13Yeah. Oh, wow, I guess I just saw him
- 39:16grab her head and just slamming up against the wall.
- 39:18No, like he's grabbing with one hand and he's like, really?
- 39:21Yeah. He said she needs to stop being
- 39:23pregnant. I don't think he was actually
- 39:25trying. They like commit like
- 39:27miscarriage. Maybe, he was, I don't know.
- 39:29I didn't see the gut punch. I just saw him not that I can,
- 39:32you know, banging somebody's head.
- 39:34Like, that's not going to have that.
- 39:35A similar effect. Either considering her head
- 39:37doesn't stop bleeding for the rest of the movie which takes
- 39:40place over like a month. There's a reasons why.
- 39:43I know there's reasons why but like it just there's an alarming
- 39:46amount of blood that her being a nurse seems unconcerned by, and
- 39:50I know head wounds bleed a lot but still so yeah, he's like, oh
- 39:55shit. I'm going to go get you some ice
- 39:56because like her heads bleeding. She leaves a trail of blood,
- 39:59down the wall and she sinks to the floor.
- 40:02There wall is now concave it's Add in as soon as he goes
- 40:07downstairs, she locks him out of the bedroom as you do and when
- 40:12he comes back up there music music!
- 40:14Oh Mia! And I'm sorry that happened,
- 40:17fuck you, fuck you. Derek you.
- 40:20He used language that removed his own responsibility from what
- 40:25he just did to her. He's trying to manipulate it so
- 40:30that way she thinks it's an accident.
- 40:32Oh, I'm just a really stressed trying To not be an alcoholic,
- 40:36which granted? Yeah.
- 40:38Like sober and up. That's hard.
- 40:40That is fucking hard but, you know, plenty of people do it
- 40:42without becoming abusive asshole.
- 40:44Yeah. So just fucking Derek.
- 40:47Yeah, he sucks. And they, I mean, they make it
- 40:49so obviously, so you're supposed to hate Derek.
- 40:52Yes, and we do, which is why the next scene is, you know, no, no,
- 40:56love lost here. We get this really cool
- 41:00exterior, shot of the house. Yeah, it's great where it's
- 41:04foggy. Is creepy.
- 41:06And you're like, yeah, and he's asleep on the couch in front of
- 41:11the TV that he could have watched his loud rattling on.
- 41:13While his pregnant wife, took a nap, just throwing that out
- 41:18there. Yeah.
- 41:19But you know that's what a non-abusive non piece of shit
- 41:22would do. So too much, too much to expect
- 41:24from Derek. Yeah, he's sleeping on the
- 41:26couch, she's still walked out of the room so she is asleep
- 41:30upstairs Matias and he wakes up kissing, who's some I'm bumping
- 41:35around and it's hard to tell where it's coming from at first.
- 41:38It sounds like it's coming from upstairs but then it sounds like
- 41:41it's coming from the kitchen and all of a sudden the blenders on
- 41:44and all of a sudden the refrigerator doors open and I'll
- 41:47send the TV's on and Derek is like what the fuck?
- 41:50And then all of a sudden his neck is broken.
- 41:53Yeah, but I mean, some of the coolest shots this is one of the
- 41:57scenes I'm talking about that. It plays it like a haunting
- 42:00movie, because, yeah, you kind of get that vibe from the
- 42:02exterior shot of the house. Like it's kind of sets it up.
- 42:05Hunting movie, feels like equal parts, haunting movie, and home
- 42:09invasion. Yeah, and also because Jenna is
- 42:12therefore both. Well, the reason I say haunting
- 42:14is because like he goes into the living room and he sees a person
- 42:18like a silhouette of a person watching TV and then suddenly
- 42:21they disappear. But then you get that shot of
- 42:23the couch is cushion. It looks like somebody sitting
- 42:25there and then standing up like a ghost.
- 42:27Like it's trying to make. You think it's a ghost kind of
- 42:30which I like it because it's kind of like James one fucking
- 42:34with the audience, right? Yeah.
- 42:35Yeah, you fucking came here for this.
- 42:36Guess what? Bitch, you're not getting that
- 42:38anymore because that's the end of the ghost, like Shenanigans
- 42:43in this movie. Yeah.
- 42:44So mad. He wakes up upstairs here.
- 42:47In arrakis there's blood on her pillow.
- 42:50She's like, well, I'm just gonna ignore that compartmentalize.
- 42:54That shit for right now and go figure out what's happening
- 42:56downstairs. And she goes downstairs to find,
- 42:59Derek with bones, poking out of the wrong part of his neck.
- 43:03Not that there's a right part of Neck for bones.
- 43:06I was going to say, like, it's never the wrong, it's just, it
- 43:10doesn't know. And then she tries to run out
- 43:16but the front door gets blown shut right in front of her.
- 43:20And so, she runs upstairs and she ends up locking herself and
- 43:23the nursery except she doesn't quite get it locked.
- 43:26And then all of a sudden, the last thing we see is the door
- 43:28swings open and she gets thrown to the nursery floor.
- 43:31It's like that. It's the cool shot from the
- 43:32trailer, where she's pinned up against the door, trying to hold
- 43:34it. And it's just Yeah, it's so cool
- 43:37I love that shot. Yeah.
- 43:39So next scene we got all kinds of cars with all kinds of, we
- 43:44lose in Sirens outside, the detectives run up.
- 43:48We get like this whole typical like procedural type scene where
- 43:52the detectives are getting like details on the crimes.
- 43:54It like the whole thing, this whole opening could be like the
- 43:58beginning of a law-and-order episode.
- 44:00Yeah, pretty much thing is though.
- 44:03Yeah, because it's, I mean, you get that, Same type of thing,
- 44:05with that type of show. You get the over-the-top
- 44:08characters, they make it clear. I know you're supposed to hate
- 44:10this person. You're supposed to know,
- 44:12whatever, you know, it's a mystery.
- 44:13Yeah. So obviously, there's somebody
- 44:15breaking in is what they're saying.
- 44:16And then she was upstairs, found unconscious.
- 44:20The CSI person. I never caught her name and
- 44:23she's in a lot of scenes. I feel very bad that I never
- 44:26she's a minor. He was a very minor characters
- 44:28cute, though she's fun. Yeah, she's pretty much I like
- 44:32her character is like, oh, I am attracted to kokoa Yeah it's
- 44:35pretty much a yeah so she she said that Derek's wounds are
- 44:40typically only seen in motor vehicle accidents so you know
- 44:45bizarre but we do know that Maddie is alive and has been
- 44:50taken to the hospital at the hospital mad.
- 44:53He wakes up her sister Sydney is there and Sydney explains the
- 44:55Derek is dead and Maddie's just like well all I could think of
- 45:01was how scared I was for my baby and then she touches her now.
- 45:05Flat belly, and Sydney is like, they couldn't save her.
- 45:12I'm so, so sorry. And it's sad.
- 45:16Yeah, it's sad scene. And then she goes to sleep.
- 45:19And then detective kokoa comes in and starts interrogating
- 45:22Sydney. Well, he wants to interrogate
- 45:24Maddie because she's awake. She's just catatonic.
- 45:27Yeah, and Sydney comes in, in a princess dress and he kind of
- 45:32looks at her and she's like, I'm a princess at Family Planning It
- 45:36could've just left a princess. She had yes, like, she gets her
- 45:41and the CSI girl got the funniest lines in this movie,
- 45:44so, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So she comes in and she just,
- 45:48you know, she kind of answer some of his questions because,
- 45:52you know, he's trying to get some background on Maddie and
- 45:54Derek's relationship and she was like, honestly Derek has kept us
- 45:57apart for the past three years because he's an obvious FPS.
- 46:00I've shat that's normal. McDonald would say he's a Jerk.
- 46:07Have you ever seen this B about that?
- 46:08Like hell he hives up was I need to play that for you.
- 46:12After I said he hopes up a like a person you ever heard of
- 46:15Albert Fish. I'm sorry, this is yeah.
- 46:17He's yeah, no. He was real bad guy backs of
- 46:22children then did bad things to them and well, he he's got a
- 46:26show or I could podcast or whatever where he was talking to
- 46:29some guy describing somebody Albert Fish and then he is a,
- 46:32you know, a real jerk. Like that's the punchline.
- 46:35It's really good. Yeah I got a show to.
- 46:37Anyways he's a real jerk but detective kokoa reveals to
- 46:42Sydney that she is actually had three miscarriages in two years.
- 46:46Yeah. I and the wording I couldn't
- 46:48tell if this was the fourth miscarriage or the third because
- 46:51the way it's kind of like, she's like, This is the fourth.
- 46:55Yeah, because the way it kind of is worded, it could be either
- 46:59way. We're.
- 47:00Yeah. Because our think he is, I think
- 47:02he's talking about the motive of Derek being, the three
- 47:05miscarriages. So yeah, so it's just a whole
- 47:09whole bad thing. We find out during the autopsy
- 47:12that there are no fingerprints, but there are handprints which,
- 47:16okay. But they're upside down, all the
- 47:20neighbors say that Derek has been beaten up on, man.
- 47:23Maddie, which I'm just kind of like I know like nobody's ever
- 47:29sure when they should speak up on stuff like that, but God,
- 47:33that sucks for her. That people knew she was going
- 47:36through this and nobody helped her.
- 47:38Yeah, it's terrible. It's a real serious thing in
- 47:41this movie but it's kind of over with after this point.
- 47:45Yeah, I mean, it comes up a couple more times but it just
- 47:48it's just my heart breaks for Maddie.
- 47:50Yeah, she's a really tragic character at this part.
- 47:53Yeah. I mean she's really a tragic
- 47:55character throughout the whole thing.
- 47:56Well, that's Yeah, so they say there's no sign of forced entry
- 48:01and they're just kind of assuming that it's Maddie.
- 48:03And in the background I'm shouting but Angela said that
- 48:06the injury is consistent with things.
- 48:09Typically seen in a motor vehicle accident, she weighs 90
- 48:12pounds. How did she break the neck of a
- 48:15man who has been consistently beating the shit out of her in
- 48:19reality though? She had he's capable of that, I
- 48:22know but you know I'm battered woman syndrome is a very real
- 48:26thing. But, you know, typically would
- 48:28be like, well, he's asleep, stab him.
- 48:31Yeah, but whatever. But two weeks later, two weeks.
- 48:36Later said he's taking Maddie home, she wants to stay at
- 48:40Maddie's like, you know, she's just ready to move on with her
- 48:43life. She doesn't want to leave the
- 48:44house because she's like, I don't want my house taken from
- 48:46me to like once one little piece of normalcy retained and she's
- 48:51worked hard for her house. It's a big house to be alone in
- 48:54especially after having a home invasion.
- 48:57Especially considering the fact that she goes upstairs to take a
- 49:00bath and doesn't lock any of her fucking door.
- 49:02Yeah, just got home. Invaded girl, why are you
- 49:06waiting until you look out your window?
- 49:07Oh there's a flickering Street Lamp.
- 49:09Oh man, a mysterious figure underneath it.
- 49:11Oh shit. I should probably go lock my
- 49:13front door and I would say that this is small Township because I
- 49:16mean I come from a small town and we don't always walk our
- 49:19doors all the time. But this is Seattle and it's
- 49:23very much, a lock your door and type of place.
- 49:27Especially after having somebody supposedly break into your
- 49:30house. But that shot about like with
- 49:32the flickering, light out in the distance that she captures and
- 49:35sees like the silhouette other person.
- 49:37Yeah. It's a really nice.
- 49:38I liked it. I liked the shotover like,
- 49:40running through the house and she's like locking the door.
- 49:42And this is so cool. Yeah, like it's kind of like
- 49:43this overhead shot. Like see ya?
- 49:46See the whole floor plan. I think that they should do more
- 49:49like, online virtual House, tours those, when they talked
- 49:52about, I watch the making of this movie.
- 49:55They talked about this chef, They were able to pull this off
- 49:58because this is all on a soundstage.
- 50:00So as no roof and I have like an overhead camera and it's just
- 50:03kind of tracking the movements of her.
- 50:04It's a really nice nicely done. I'm just saying that Zillow
- 50:08should contract James wan to do to remove the roof and do some
- 50:13some virtual walkthroughs. I mean, it's like the house on
- 50:16her episodes where I guess weirdly cinematic for some
- 50:18reason. You know people are like was I
- 50:20need this for my demo reel actors and editors that are
- 50:22really just trying to try something with them, you know?
- 50:24Yeah. Sometimes you get the fun size.
- 50:26And editors to, but throughout this whenever she walks the
- 50:32door, I gotta like how this is kind of like a little plan for
- 50:34somebody who's seen it before, but she's just telling yourself.
- 50:37It's all in my head. It's all in my head.
- 50:39It literally is. Yeah.
- 50:42So the next day, we see her boarding up all the windows and
- 50:45putting extra dead bolts on the doors.
- 50:51Sydney tries to come in. She can't her he's aren't like
- 50:54they're turning in the knob, but she can't open the door.
- 50:56So she climbs up the window and first of all, why would you not
- 50:59Knock first though? I know it would be so annoying
- 51:02to have somebody just unlock your door and walk into your
- 51:04house whenever they don't live there.
- 51:05Unannounced, you know, that's a shitty.
- 51:08I don't even knock on my sister's daughter because she's
- 51:11scared. She expects you though.
- 51:12She expects me. I'll just like texture.
- 51:14I'm like, I don't want to ring the bell and wake up one or two
- 51:18small children. Yeah.
- 51:19She's always like, thank you. I appreciate that.
- 51:22More people need to not ring my doorbell.
- 51:27But yeah, so she climbs up to the bedroom window and she's,
- 51:32like, mom made a casserole. I couldn't climb with it.
- 51:34So it's downstairs. Another great line.
- 51:38How is Maddie going to be getting out of here?
- 51:41It's just going to be staying inside her house forever.
- 51:44Who's she gonna climb down from the roof million?
- 51:46Okay but yeah she is like sitting there staring at the
- 51:50dent in her wall and her sister is like holy shit he did this to
- 51:54you and then she says the most poignant I think she's like
- 51:57listen what happened to him is really fucked up, hard to care.
- 52:02And Maddie says that she she almost left him three years ago
- 52:06and then she got pregnant for the first time.
- 52:08And she was like and I just really wanted to have a
- 52:11flesh-and-blood connection and Sydney's like, hello.
- 52:14I'm your sister. And she goes, you're actually my
- 52:16adopted sister, it's like that the pixie son Cuts in there.
- 52:24She's she like has a revelation Since in our face like her
- 52:28brain, just plays the whole ending of Fight Club is like so
- 52:34stupid, but I love it. Yeah.
- 52:37And we find out that that Maddie was adopted when she was 8 years
- 52:42old, her mom died during childbirth and she doesn't
- 52:46remember anything from her life before.
- 52:49Her mom took her in. So I would I'm just going to
- 52:52refer to her job to mom as her mom because for all intents and
- 52:55purposes, that's her mom. Now their mom I mean and we'll
- 53:00get to these themes later on but family so much more than DNA.
- 53:03So and I'm very friendly one of those people that thinks your
- 53:08blood has so much less to do with it than everything else.
- 53:11Yeah. Are you looking your blood right
- 53:14now? I got, um, That pomegranate in
- 53:17between my fingers sticky, you just talking about the
- 53:21importance of blood. Oh, really start looking your
- 53:23fingers. So we go to an old Seattle
- 53:30Underground Tour. You know, and she's just talking
- 53:35about like maybe there was clothes downstairs.
- 53:37And then the lights flicker and everybody goes haha.
- 53:40Like it's all planned. We see this woman and closing up
- 53:43at the end of the night and the lights flicker again.
- 53:46And she's Quiet. But she unplugs them.
- 53:49And then she hears sounds and she pulls him back in and then
- 53:52she's attacked don't until she gets pants.
- 53:55Yeah, she gets pouts and then we cut to seeing her like tied up
- 53:59on some like on an attic. Sing like the fucking setting.
- 54:04It's so cold, the fan, The Whiting and everything here and
- 54:08then you get to see. Gabriel like, whoa, I mean, we
- 54:12know it's Gabriel now about like somebody's just over there
- 54:14putting on like a jacket and all that stuff.
- 54:16Tough and they're just kind of suiting up.
- 54:18It's a really nice setting. I liked it.
- 54:21Yeah. In the figure puts on the trench
- 54:23coat and this is how we find out.
- 54:25It's Gabriel, kind of because he starts talking through the
- 54:27radio. So if you were paying attention
- 54:29at the beginning and you know that Gabriel can talk through
- 54:31Electronics, then you figure out that this is Gabriel.
- 54:35Also, you're in a movie and Gabriel was the first thing you
- 54:37saw. So you figured that he was
- 54:39probably going to come back at some point.
- 54:41Yeah. And then he tells her it's like
- 54:43all right. First dr.
- 54:44Weaver. So then we got to cut to dr.
- 54:46Weaver Getting think it's like a phone call, right?
- 54:49Yeah. Phone call from Gabriel and I
- 54:51says is time to cut out the cancer.
- 54:53And she's like, who is this? Who is this?
- 54:56And then she hangs up and knows who it is.
- 54:59And she immediately goes to her records that she keeps in her
- 55:02house, for some reason, which Like, I don't know if that's
- 55:06legal, is it go? Yeah.
- 55:08If you have records at home, they're supposed to be kept in a
- 55:10place that can be locked and secured.
- 55:12She has a Allen. The open on a bookcase.
- 55:14Yes. And it doesn't look like it's in
- 55:16a locked. Study.
- 55:18Is my issue with it. I like how willing you are to
- 55:21agree with me with this but you defended dr.
- 55:23Loomis. Oh, last week I mean whatever
- 55:26man it's a defunct hospital. They probably don't give a fuck.
- 55:30I mean, patients rates still exist.
- 55:33Okay. So Maddie is in House doing
- 55:35laundry. She has so much laundry.
- 55:37There's just clothes everywhere. How are you living your life,
- 55:40baby? Like, I hope you're not still
- 55:41washing Derek's. Close burn.
- 55:43That shit. I assume he didn't have a
- 55:48funeral. Like we see.
- 55:49No, no man. It's been two weeks of what?
- 55:52Oh, I can happen in two weeks regarding that doesn't want to
- 55:54come. It's fine.
- 55:55Shoot. Yeah, she was probably in the
- 55:57hospital. During the whole thing.
- 55:58His family could have done their whole thing and that's fine.
- 56:01We don't get, he's such a shitty character, we don't ya?
- 56:02Think about him anymore. Well, she's doing the laundry.
- 56:06The lights flicker. We get some radio.
- 56:08Static. Her head starts hurting.
- 56:10She sees something running out. She's going down the stairs and
- 56:14her head starts bleeding again. And while she's putting the
- 56:17clothes in the washer, like all of a sudden, there's dr.
- 56:21Weaver behind the door and she's like, wait, who are you?
- 56:24And the doctor was like, get out of my house and that he's like,
- 56:26you're in my house. Get out of here.
- 56:28You and then all of a sudden, she falls back and then she's
- 56:31like Frozen in place. And then we got this like
- 56:33Inception style like scene All I could think of the whole time as
- 56:36well. Yeah, but before that even like
- 56:38you she's sees Gabriel in her house grabbed her and then swam
- 56:43her down on the ground as soon as like that makes impact on the
- 56:45ground and it flashes right into dr.
- 56:47Weaver's home. That was so I like that
- 56:49transition better than like the Inception type of transition.
- 56:53We're just boom. Cut you like, you were like
- 56:55jolted right into it. Yeah, so like Gabriel just
- 56:59fucking brutalizes. This woman like is just beating
- 57:02the shit out of her tossing her around. and grabs her surgery
- 57:06trophy, which I didn't think such a thing existed.
- 57:12And if it did, I would assume it would be one of those like,
- 57:15Crystal type things. It's just like random geometric
- 57:18shape, not like an actual fucking knife.
- 57:21I think it's an actual thing. They talked about the conception
- 57:24of this weapon. Okay.
- 57:26Interviews that I was reading and I can't remember exactly
- 57:29like everything about it, but it's supposed to be ironic
- 57:32because it's killing her with the thing that, you know, It's
- 57:38kind of he's taking a weapon of the thing that like kind of
- 57:40created this whole situation in the first place.
- 57:43Are they implying that? She performs surgery with a
- 57:45knife? No, I don't think so.
- 57:48It's not a knife. Is a it's like a dagger.
- 57:52He turns it into a dagger. But it isn't really though I
- 57:55guess just kind of like it's he sharpens it.
- 57:58I know he shot. He bludgeons her for this one.
- 58:00He's not stabbing her. Just seeing like the knife part
- 58:04at the top of the trophy. Has a hilt?
- 58:06Yeah. It's I don't know what that is
- 58:08honestly. I mean, I guess it.
- 58:10They probably had a creative liberties with it to turn into a
- 58:13knife. It's so cool.
- 58:15Visual effect later on. I completely agree with I'm just
- 58:17saying it's a, can you imagine? Like, you're in surgery.
- 58:21You're completely out under anaesthesia and your doctor
- 58:24goes. I'm not and just like slices off
- 58:28your tumor, whatever you wouldn't be paying attention to
- 58:31that. You wouldn't be awake for that.
- 58:34I'm just saying, what can you imagine finding out after the
- 58:36fact that that's what happened? You realize that after the fact
- 58:40that people were taking a fucking Hammer to your leg.
- 58:43All right. Well, it felt like it when I
- 58:44woke up and that's what I'm saying, man, did you take a
- 58:46hammer to my Leg. And he's like, yeah actually you
- 58:49didn't watch the video. I told you to so there you go.
- 58:51Surgery is way more barbaric than you actually think.
- 58:57Yeah. Somebody watches this whole
- 58:59thing. She's freaking out.
- 59:02I got to also say, like, as Gabriel is bludgeoning dr.
- 59:06Weaver, it's like these vicious blows like on almost like
- 59:10rubbery arms. Like it is.
- 59:13So over the top violent. Yeah, it's insane.
- 59:16I just love How unnatural his movies are is.
- 59:20Yeah, that's the creep factor to it.
- 59:22Yeah, so Maddie wakes up in her own kitchen, the next morning
- 59:25her head is still beating the same detectives Shaw and Moss
- 59:32are at dr. Weaver's house.
- 59:33A housekeeper found her that morning called her and I said
- 59:37the brutality of the attack points to the same as hacker
- 59:42from Maddie and Derek's house. Which you would think, would
- 59:48kind of exonerate Maddie in a way in their eyes, but Moss
- 59:54roommate suspicious over the entire time.
- 59:59So we see all of the records on their shelf, they decide that
- 1:00:05they're going to take them. She specialized in child
- 1:00:09reconstructive surgery and they find this picture on the floor
- 1:00:13which they think means that this is like The case specifically
- 1:00:17tied to the attack. And it's like a young girl.
- 1:00:21Who looks very obviously, like a young Maddie like, very
- 1:00:25obviously super obvious. Yeah, I'm insanely on.
- 1:00:30They did a good job casting the child actor, pretty similar.
- 1:00:33But yeah he takes the picture to Bosco and asks him that age her
- 1:00:38up 30 years. Yes.
- 1:00:41So we see Gabriel making the trophy knife next.
- 1:00:44Oh my God. This is So I know you're talking
- 1:00:46about it. It's ridiculous.
- 1:00:48First of all, this movies fucking ridiculous, but this
- 1:00:51weapon is so cool. I love this weapon.
- 1:00:54One of the things like Killers need to have to be like to stand
- 1:00:57out. To me is have a memorable weapon
- 1:01:00or a memorable. Look, and this character knows
- 1:01:02both of them. He also has the Zhao, get up.
- 1:01:06He's got the black gloves, the black leather gloves, he's got
- 1:01:09the trench coat, you know, it's the character like the killer.
- 1:01:13All in black. That's yeah the thing and This
- 1:01:18I'm going to say it and you're going to give me shit probably.
- 1:01:20But this is like reminds me so much of black Christmas because
- 1:01:25one is in the Attic. Okay.
- 1:01:27And he kills that one girl with the Unicorn trophy It's very
- 1:01:34similar to me. I see the parallels there,
- 1:01:37honestly. Like, we're gonna make a new
- 1:01:39game from every movie. How can Travis tie this Back to
- 1:01:44Black Christmas? I'm gonna write a book, Black
- 1:01:46Christmas, the secret influential slasher.
- 1:01:51It's the one that has its hidden in every single movie.
- 1:01:55I can probably reference black Christmas in any movie ever, but
- 1:01:59this one's so clear to me, okay? Do you not see what I'm talking
- 1:02:03about that? The whole attic seen like the
- 1:02:07whole get up there and then you know the trophy like that was
- 1:02:10very reminiscent to me, at least, it's not like, I'm
- 1:02:15grasping at like, you know, straws you seems pretty obvious.
- 1:02:21I didn't make that connection. Oh yeah.
- 1:02:24Also, I don't think that unicorn was a trophy.
- 1:02:26I think I was just like a fear, whatever, man, same thing.
- 1:02:30It's very similar whatever. Just move on, fuck you.
- 1:02:37Okay. So Sydney's with Maddie and
- 1:02:39Maddie is like throwing up. She's freaking out, she tell
- 1:02:42Sydney what she saw. We well, we haven't seen that
- 1:02:47yet. Those were we haven't talked
- 1:02:48about it, not the vision of her seeing.
- 1:02:51She's seen the other doctor now. Yeah but we had the first scene
- 1:02:55of them talking about it first. After she sees dr.
- 1:03:01Weaver stuff. Sydney comes over.
- 1:03:03No, she's throwing up after she sees the other guys.
- 1:03:09She tells her about this first vision and then she sees the
- 1:03:13other guys. She wakes up screaming and
- 1:03:14Sydney comes in for that. No, I guess you're right.
- 1:03:17Yeah, I think I am. Right.
- 1:03:18I'm looking at my notes. I am to my notes are in order.
- 1:03:21I take more notes than you. Okay, so we see this fussy guy
- 1:03:28shuffling around his apartment. Dr. Fields.
- 1:03:31Okay, I've missed his name comes I take good notes, he's on the
- 1:03:36phone. He's like, yeah, see, yeah, see
- 1:03:39Terrible to shreds you say and he's like well I haven't worked
- 1:03:44with her in a really long time so I mean whatever and he goes
- 1:03:47into his closet and he's just like grabbing stuff for the next
- 1:03:51day getting ready blah blah blah turns around his windows open.
- 1:03:55He's like hmm that's weird. It's raining and I'm far too
- 1:03:58fussy and up tie it to leave my window open while it's raining.
- 1:04:01Hmm. There's wet Footprints leading
- 1:04:03into my dark closet. I should probably go investigate
- 1:04:07and he goes into his closet. Things there.
- 1:04:09So we grabbed a towel because he's got a basket of Hell's in
- 1:04:12his closet because he's a fussy kind of guy, he cleans up the
- 1:04:17footprints before closing this window, which bothered me
- 1:04:20because it was really, really heavy rain and like he would
- 1:04:23still have Ranger like rain coming in and getting his nice
- 1:04:26hardwood floors wet while he's trying to dry it up before he
- 1:04:30closes the window. But anyway, we needed that
- 1:04:32moment so that way when he reaches up to close this window,
- 1:04:35we get the shot of Gabriel behind him.
- 1:04:37We got a bunch of fake out shots here because we had in the
- 1:04:40closet scene we had that scene then we have them going and
- 1:04:43sitting down on his bed and we get the shot of like his feet
- 1:04:45from underneath the bed and you're like oh we're gonna get
- 1:04:48an Achilles tendon thing, but nope, instead we cut to Sydney
- 1:04:52art. Not Sydney.
- 1:04:53God damn it. We cut to Maddie in her bed and
- 1:04:57she rolls over and all of a sudden, she wakes up and she
- 1:05:00sees dr. Filled silts filled filled
- 1:05:05Fields feel Gold Fields, he's having a field day, dr.
- 1:05:09Fields has okay. So you remember English
- 1:05:15textbook. Dr. Fields was that the field
- 1:05:21day? She gets she gets the white
- 1:05:23shining under the red white. Yeah.
- 1:05:25So it's of the sign across the street.
- 1:05:27The silver cup. Yes, over cup.
- 1:05:28Yeah. And then she sees dr.
- 1:05:30Fields there. Yeah.
- 1:05:31And then she like she has the whole Inception thing.
- 1:05:33She's trapped to the bed just watched like we see gay.
- 1:05:37Go crawl over top of her which just like, oh my God, I love
- 1:05:41this shot so much. This is the poster shot.
- 1:05:43Yeah. And then we just watched Gabriel
- 1:05:47stabbed, dr. Fields at the same enthusiasm
- 1:05:49that he bludgeoned dies. It's so fucking intense, man.
- 1:05:52He's like shaking him in the face and once again looking
- 1:05:56super unnatural. You can see his feet are like
- 1:05:59backwards, its backwards. It just looks almost like a
- 1:06:03praying man. It's just like yeah.
- 1:06:04Over top of some, a just going to town on their face.
- 1:06:07Yeah, and so mad. He wakes up screaming and this
- 1:06:10is her Sydney comes in and Maddie tells her what happened
- 1:06:13and they decide they're going to go to the cops because maybe
- 1:06:16they can, you know what she saw his face sister, she saw his
- 1:06:19face this time it was a very gross looking face.
- 1:06:21It's all lumpy and red and deformed and upsetting.
- 1:06:28So yeah, they go to the police Sydney.
- 1:06:35Sydney suggest that You know, it's kind of like, you know,
- 1:06:38like using a psychic just, you know, you guys use psychic
- 1:06:41sometimes and Moss is just like no we don't.
- 1:06:44And she goes, I played a psychic on a cop procedural TV episode
- 1:06:50one time and they told me that it's based on reality and moths
- 1:06:53just like looks at Shaw. Like can you believe this guy
- 1:07:00and she convinces them to go check out the apartment?
- 1:07:03See that it's real. They go, there's like some nice
- 1:07:09things, yellow type music in the ceiling Cynthiana.
- 1:07:13Yeah, ghost goes. Yeah.
- 1:07:16And they find the body in the apartment so they get a sketch
- 1:07:21from Maddie and Moss is like cool.
- 1:07:25So we're looking for a Sloth from The Goonies and Maddie's
- 1:07:29like cool. I'm going to go to the bathroom
- 1:07:31and wet my face because you're a bitch.
- 1:07:34Well, she's in there, she gets a phone call.
- 1:07:37And it's Gabriel any calls or Emily and she was like that's I
- 1:07:40mean I think that's the name of your fake mom gave you.
- 1:07:45I'm gonna make them pay for making me go way.
- 1:07:47They told you. I was fake, but I'm not fake my
- 1:07:50room and she's like, who are you?
- 1:07:52He goes, you know who I am. She should have Gabriel.
- 1:07:57And they leave Sydney and Maddie leave and then Shaw asked Bosco
- 1:08:03he's finished. Aging up that picture yet and he
- 1:08:05goes well yeah, I left it on your desk.
- 1:08:07I assume that's why you called her in.
- 1:08:08That's the girl from the picture dun dun dun and it's so weird to
- 1:08:13see him accurately eicher up to look exactly like the actor you
- 1:08:17know like that doesn't happen. It's usually like very similar
- 1:08:21but it's like they took a picture like her face like a mug
- 1:08:24shot and I do that every time we listen to You case File is.
- 1:08:29I want to see what the people look like from the case.
- 1:08:32And yeah, look up the pictures and sometimes you get the police
- 1:08:35sketches and like, as not how that man looks, how did they
- 1:08:38ever find him? Police sketches, are fucking
- 1:08:41scary. Sometimes e, please sketches.
- 1:08:43Are they like the emphasize certain fig?
- 1:08:49Parts of the face? Like that way, whenever you're
- 1:08:52looking for somebody? I, oh, I like somebody has like
- 1:08:53a nose like that, you know, they make it like very Generated to
- 1:08:57make it like oh you're like those are very because of the
- 1:09:00high points like what makes them distinct?
- 1:09:02And I am sure. I am positive that they must
- 1:09:07teach the sketch artist the right way to ask people
- 1:09:10questions. But in my head what's happening
- 1:09:13is a bunch of dumb fucks like me.
- 1:09:15If I was called in to do a sketch, I be like know, his eyes
- 1:09:20were more like squinty and kind of overly, but a little bit
- 1:09:23round and then like, goes up at the side and there's like some
- 1:09:26wrinkly Things. Are you describing?
- 1:09:28Gabriel are right now. No, I'm just describing like a
- 1:09:31random person. Okay no but like there?
- 1:09:34No. See.
- 1:09:35They've got to be a little bit more shaded in here and then his
- 1:09:39nose has like it's not round but it's not it's not pointy.
- 1:09:44Like I imagined that I would be a terrible witness is what I'm
- 1:09:49saying and I feel like the sketch artist must know the
- 1:09:53right types of questions to ask to get the features somewhat
- 1:09:55accurate, do they? I don't know if they have you
- 1:09:58over their shoulder the entire time, they just asked what they
- 1:10:00look like and then they show you after the fact, I know.
- 1:10:03But what, what if it was wrong and then you'd have feel like no
- 1:10:07start over. Be like no, fuck you.
- 1:10:09This is a this is our guy and then they move on with in wrist
- 1:10:13the wrong man because you suck as a witness.
- 1:10:18So they Emily and Madison Decide to go and Sydney and Madison.
- 1:10:25I don't know why I said anyways, because it's her name, her real
- 1:10:29name, Cindy and Madison, they've decided to go to their mom
- 1:10:32sells. So try and get info on a
- 1:10:34potential brother for Madison. Yeah.
- 1:10:37And moms like, no, you don't have a brother but then Maddie
- 1:10:43is like, well, what about Gabriel then the Bongos and I
- 1:10:48got home videos and they watch Sydney.
- 1:10:52God damn it. You have me doing it now.
- 1:10:53Now watch Maddie talking to like an imaginary friend.
- 1:10:59Was that our ninth birthday party birthday that nobody came
- 1:11:02to except for Gabriel and it's real.
- 1:11:04He has to be there. Yeah Gabriel.
- 1:11:10You will go to your sister's birthday party and you will act
- 1:11:13like you are having a good time. The move has been really hard on
- 1:11:16her. So yeah.
- 1:11:20And it's just it's kind of Kind of creepy and their moms like
- 1:11:26you know you were getting like getting kind of weird about this
- 1:11:30whole Gabriel thing and you were randomly talk to him on your
- 1:11:35little toy phone and you would say that he's telling you to
- 1:11:37hurt the baby, which is Sydney and she was like, I like the
- 1:11:42mom. She was like, I do not know what
- 1:11:44you went through before we adopted you.
- 1:11:46I cannot imagine the kind of trauma because you were pressed
- 1:11:49every single ounce of it and we assumed Gabriel with some sort
- 1:11:51of Coping mechanism and we just hoped that we could love you
- 1:11:55enough to suppress it. Yeah, I mean because I'm in the
- 1:11:58Situation's, you don't really know what's going on so that's a
- 1:12:00reasonable take ya Shah Charles finds are just some of the tapes
- 1:12:06from the records and then he hears the name.
- 1:12:09Dr. Gregory and I was like, cool.
- 1:12:11I'm gonna check out this dr. Gregory fellow.
- 1:12:14But when he gets to his apartment, he finds his body in
- 1:12:17the bathroom and Maddie, is there sort of like she's the
- 1:12:22Frozen in place again. And she's like trying to tell
- 1:12:24Charles that Gabriel still there, but we see Gabriel like
- 1:12:27jump from the ceiling and attack shawl but not like as
- 1:12:31effectively as he seems to attack most people.
- 1:12:34Yeah, so he ends up being checked like Shah ends up
- 1:12:37chasing it was really intense chasing down a fire escape and
- 1:12:41to like an egress and then into a hole from inside of a basement
- 1:12:45into even deeper underground. And what looks like the
- 1:12:47underground's, the old Seattle tour type thing because we see a
- 1:12:52courage and Gabriel attacks him again, but still doesn't kill
- 1:12:56him. So must want Shaw to be around
- 1:13:00for something like, it feels like Gabriel could have killed
- 1:13:03other. He tried.
- 1:13:04I think, I think Sean's probably just the only competent person
- 1:13:08that he's attacked so far. Yeah, and I mean, okay, it's
- 1:13:11also worth noting because we saw Gabriel get shot out of the
- 1:13:14beginning of the movie. He Dodges every single bullet
- 1:13:17shot shoots at him here, too. So Shaw, ask Maddie to get
- 1:13:24hypnotized to try and unlock some of her childhood memories
- 1:13:27to, which Sydney said, I know it to which mosses not the same
- 1:13:31thing as a psychic. So, they're in Maddie's living
- 1:13:35room and the hypnotist is like, getting her to relax and unlock
- 1:13:41some memories. And I'm just going to say this
- 1:13:43here now. Hypnotism is, like, not in any
- 1:13:47way shape, or form scientifically validated people
- 1:13:51are remarkably. Susceptible and our memories are
- 1:13:56incredibly fallible. Every time you have a memory,
- 1:13:59you are actually having a memory of a memory.
- 1:14:01Yeah, every time you remember, like, remember something, it is
- 1:14:04adding some remember something something.
- 1:14:06Fuck. I'm fucking it up even more.
- 1:14:07Now I know or maybe you're making it even better.
- 1:14:10Yeah, yeah. I guess so.
- 1:14:13Yeah. Get rewriting it.
- 1:14:14They like be better but they've done some of that stuff was like
- 1:14:17witness testimony. Like it the way you ask
- 1:14:20questions can really influence. So what type of an answer you
- 1:14:23get? Because you can totally totally
- 1:14:25like convince somebody to give. We like you can suggest.
- 1:14:29Yeah, you can give us. Yeah, answer and they'll give
- 1:14:31it, they'll be like oh yeah. No, I definitely remember that.
- 1:14:33So just you know just something interesting to put out there,
- 1:14:38gotta put my degree to you somehow so Maddie kind of like
- 1:14:44has like a flashback moment, you know, where she's at her house
- 1:14:50shortly after being adopted her and I was pregnant with Sydney,
- 1:14:53Gabriel still there at the new home.
- 1:14:57Gabriel will do bad things and her parents will think it's
- 1:15:00Maddie and they don't believe her.
- 1:15:01When she says it's Gabriel which is like reasonable.
- 1:15:05Like yeah. So she gets a call on the phone
- 1:15:11and she's like, no I don't want to do it.
- 1:15:13I don't want to do it and she's like, oh, it's like a good
- 1:15:15surprise and then we see her going out to this cake place
- 1:15:23like a baby shower cake. And she's like, getting ready to
- 1:15:25cut a slice except like it inceptions away from like the
- 1:15:29kitchen table. And she's actually standing over
- 1:15:30her mom with the naif like above her pregnant belly.
- 1:15:33I like that. He's calling her on the kid
- 1:15:35phone. I feel like, that's, I mean,
- 1:15:37that's so like, how I'm gonna call it stupid.
- 1:15:41I actually think it's really cool.
- 1:15:42Actually, I really like it. Like that only its kind of
- 1:15:45stupid but I mean it's fun. Like I I think it's, it's kind
- 1:15:50of it's got a creep element to me at least, you know, like
- 1:15:53something about that. Type of toy being manipulated by
- 1:15:56something like this, and having somebody like Gabriel
- 1:16:00communicate their that kind of gives a little bit of creepiness
- 1:16:02to me. Yeah, well in present-day Maddie
- 1:16:06starts screaming, they bring her out of the memory and she says
- 1:16:10that she remembers everything Gabriel wanted her to hurt the
- 1:16:12baby because then she wouldn't need him anymore and she's like
- 1:16:16this. All just came flooding back to
- 1:16:18me. It's like this memory He was in
- 1:16:19the back of my neck stood up and then we get a shot of doctor or
- 1:16:27not. Dr. The person that was
- 1:16:28kidnapped From The Underground Tour.
- 1:16:31Who escapes from being tied up upstairs.
- 1:16:34Wait wait wait wait. Oh yeah.
- 1:16:36After Maddie says her back of the headline Moss, asks, if the
- 1:16:42Killer is imaginary and then we get this dramatic music sting
- 1:16:48and I was one of the Best moments of comedy in this entire
- 1:16:50movie, I don't remember that. Yeah, I wrote it down.
- 1:16:55Okay, amazing. Then we cut to the tour.
- 1:16:58Guide upstairs, a she is cutting the ropes, she managed to get
- 1:17:01through because she's in an attic.
- 1:17:03And this attic is not like livable space.
- 1:17:06It is not counting towards the square footage of their home.
- 1:17:09She falls through and then we see that haddock was actually
- 1:17:12Maddie's attic because she falls down into their living room pom,
- 1:17:16pom pom. How does this not kill her?
- 1:17:19That's such a hard fall and she falls through the table to.
- 1:17:22Yeah. I mean the coffee table.
- 1:17:22Broke her fall. Sure that's how it works.
- 1:17:26Yeah, I mean to be fair she is in a coma.
- 1:17:30Oh yeah. Like that's that's a big fall
- 1:17:33man. We get more sirens and pixies.
- 1:17:37Sydney is trying to plead Maddie's case and mosses know.
- 1:17:41And if you keep bothering us, I mean, I have you arrested for
- 1:17:46interfering with the crime scene or whatever.
- 1:17:49And the CSI girl finds the trophy knife dagger thing in the
- 1:17:53Attic, we come to an interrogation in Maddie is just
- 1:17:57answering all of Shaw and mosses questions and I just wrote in
- 1:18:01all calves, lawyer up. Girl, she's yelling about
- 1:18:06Gabriel saying that is Gabriel. He's doing all this, he's being
- 1:18:10bad and it's like very much mirror.
- 1:18:11She's like flashbacks, she's taking like a Sinister turn
- 1:18:14almost she's very serious. She's not the same person
- 1:18:17anymore. She's I don't want to say
- 1:18:20uncooperative, she's just not sugarcoating anything anymore.
- 1:18:24And she has that moment like that intense outbursts that
- 1:18:26blows out all the whites and then all of a sudden, the phone
- 1:18:29starts ringing and then she's like, it's for you.
- 1:18:31And then they answering his Gabriel talking through the
- 1:18:33phone, which is so fucking cool. I love this scene.
- 1:18:36Yeah. And then he says he wants to
- 1:18:37things back. Meaning, his trench coat, and
- 1:18:40his gloves and his dagger, and then she was like, who are you?
- 1:18:43And Maddie said, all right, he said, go ahead and ask Maddie
- 1:18:46what he which she used to call me and she goes The devil
- 1:18:51dramatic music sting Sid goes to her mom's house because she's
- 1:18:56going to play detective to try. And exonerate her sister, her
- 1:18:59mom gets the certificate of adoption and says this is why we
- 1:19:03never throw anything out and you know there are a lot of things I
- 1:19:07even say this is why we didn't ever throw this out, but I think
- 1:19:10a certificate of adoption is one of those things that you don't
- 1:19:13just say, hey, yeah. You know, I thought about
- 1:19:15throwing it out but thought it might be good to keep it.
- 1:19:17No, it's one of those things you keep it.
- 1:19:19You keep it? Yeah.
- 1:19:21Maybe you hide it in a secret compartment in a drawer and your
- 1:19:26hunting cabin because only the like Royal Blood can Ascend to
- 1:19:32the reign of King in. I'll do it I'll do Vania Chris
- 1:19:40is Prince. Yeah but yeah so she goes to
- 1:19:48Simeon, Research Hospital. No, it's abandoned now and it's
- 1:19:51on a Cliffside and it's nighttime and it's creepy.
- 1:19:54And she breaks in and there's like graffiti and all of this
- 1:19:57stuff and she goes to the records storage and the basement
- 1:20:00and find these records and she gets creeped out and she just
- 1:20:03leaves. Nothing happens to her.
- 1:20:05It's a nice little moment. Subverts your expectations.
- 1:20:08You think something's gonna happen to her while she's
- 1:20:09getting the records or she doesn't?
- 1:20:11And not only does she get Emily maze records?
- 1:20:13She gets Serena maze records to because she did uses that must
- 1:20:17be Maddie's birth mom gotta be. Yeah so Maddie gets locked up
- 1:20:25with about a dozen or so other women who size her up and we're
- 1:20:30going to get I'm not gonna like say it every time we cut to her
- 1:20:33but we're gonna get lots of like interstitial shots between the
- 1:20:37next little bit of action of like these women harassing her.
- 1:20:41So it's just going to be kind of building up the tension as we go
- 1:20:43on. Yeah, Sid takes the Record.
- 1:20:48She Back to her mom's house and they watch these videos together
- 1:20:54and Serena met. She was raped and impregnated at
- 1:21:0115 years old. Her mom was religious, and not
- 1:21:05fucking helpful said that her child was like an Abomination
- 1:21:11Serena's. Like, I can't take care of them
- 1:21:13by. I just want them to, you know,
- 1:21:15have some chance. I don't know what to fucking do
- 1:21:18and Maddie and City's mom is fucking pissed, because she was
- 1:21:23told that Maddie's mom died in childbirth but really, what does
- 1:21:26it matter? You know, like part of the
- 1:21:30reason that you asked about stuff like this in adoption is
- 1:21:32for, like, if there's any medical history issues or like
- 1:21:36whatever kind of information that you can get, even if it's a
- 1:21:39closed adoption like having some of that history can be helpful
- 1:21:42like for future issues but yeah so there's a video of Emily.
- 1:21:53As a small child Maddie as a small child, when she was still
- 1:21:56called Emily. And they said that Gabriel's
- 1:21:58been sedated. So she's probably going to be
- 1:22:00kind of sleepy, but we wanted to talk to you without him
- 1:22:02listening in and you're kind of like some here gone.
- 1:22:04Hmm, that's a little weird. I don't know what exactly that
- 1:22:08means and we hear dr. Weaver asking you know, why
- 1:22:11she's been picking on kids twice your size and she's like well
- 1:22:14Gabriel wants me to beat them up and I like yeah, but they could
- 1:22:17easily kick your scrawny ass kid and she's like well Gabriel
- 1:22:20makes me strong, you know? And they've got like all These
- 1:22:23weird little comments and then we cut to where they're going to
- 1:22:26go, talk to Gabriel, and they just take the camera and move
- 1:22:30around behind her and we see a little yeah, so cool out of her
- 1:22:35head. And that's so creepy.
- 1:22:37That's all I am atronics. That's all practical.
- 1:22:40It's a really nice. They like actually manipulate
- 1:22:42the face and arm movements and stuff like that.
- 1:22:44I saw how they were making in sculpting.
- 1:22:45It's really cool. I can't not think about the
- 1:22:48scene with Dwight though. He's like so I absorbed my
- 1:22:52brother and Now I have this strength of a grown man and a
- 1:22:55little baby, whenever she's like, it makes me.
- 1:22:58Yeah. Whenever she's a good make me
- 1:22:59makes me stronger. But yeah, and we find out that
- 1:23:05Gabriel can access like they share a brain and Gabriel can
- 1:23:09access specifically the part that like controls her visual
- 1:23:15stimuli and so it seems like he can make her see things that
- 1:23:22aren't actually real. So that's like how she was
- 1:23:25tricked into almost cutting baby, Sydney.
- 1:23:28Yeah. That's how she's seeing all of
- 1:23:30these murders happen while she's at home.
- 1:23:33Yeah. So she's actually at the murder
- 1:23:36scenes but she thinks she's at home.
- 1:23:38Yeah, it's like point it plays over.
- 1:23:40Like the events that have happened in the movie.
- 1:23:42So you're seeing her like brush her teeth while.
- 1:23:43She's like, she thinks she's brushing her teeth while in
- 1:23:46reality. She's like over at these peoples
- 1:23:48places, killing them. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:23:52So they said, the only way that they could save Maddie has to
- 1:23:56cut, Gabriel out, but they can't completely cut all of them out
- 1:24:00without killing her also. So they're going to share like
- 1:24:03the tiniest little bit of brain and they're just gonna, I did
- 1:24:08all these scenes are the scenes that you see in the beginning,
- 1:24:11by the way. So, yeah.
- 1:24:12But it's actually a really fucking like, they go into
- 1:24:16detail with this. It looks incredible.
- 1:24:18They cut it up and actually, shove it into her head, Jacob
- 1:24:22finger, and just yeah, but it looks really good, like I'm
- 1:24:28impressed with it. Yeah.
- 1:24:30And this is kind of where shit starts to hit the fan. and
- 1:24:33because these women start fucking beating up Maddie in her
- 1:24:38cell and then she stands up and then all of a sudden, And the
- 1:24:44lights are flickering and all the women are like oh shit.
- 1:24:45She's having a seizure, maybe we shouldn't have fucking kicked
- 1:24:49her because they were kicking the shit out of her.
- 1:24:52Yeah. And then like all of a sudden,
- 1:24:56Her like arms, like contort weird out of place.
- 1:25:01And then we see her hair in the back.
- 1:25:05You know, where she's been bleeding for the past month.
- 1:25:08Her skull just kind of Pops open.
- 1:25:11Cracks open like so many watermelons and we see Gabriel's
- 1:25:19face, yeah, Gallagher. I was going to make a Gallagher
- 1:25:25joke, but then I could not remember.
- 1:25:26Name Gallagher, if it were Gallagher her head would be
- 1:25:28exploding. Well, we're about to get some
- 1:25:31exploding. Okay?
- 1:25:32So we, this is where we are about to get the most intense.
- 1:25:3520 minutes I've seen on screen in the past year and we are not
- 1:25:39going to be able to detail every little bit, but I did make a
- 1:25:41couple of notes from this cell. So we get torn off ear, break an
- 1:25:50arm punch through stomach. Stop a skull break a neck.
- 1:25:56Gouging. I guard comes up and Gabriel
- 1:26:01manages to attack him and get the keys to get out.
- 1:26:06Sydney is trying to call Shaw to tell them the history and says
- 1:26:09they gave I got woken up after Derek smashed her head into the
- 1:26:12wall. So for the 10th time, this
- 1:26:15podcast, fuck fucking Derek. Yeah, so he caused a lot of
- 1:26:19deaths. Also, he's the reason I don't
- 1:26:22they say here but he's three. Okay.
- 1:26:26So Sean Moss, pull back into the station, they hear gunfire on
- 1:26:30their leg. Oh God.
- 1:26:32Gabriel's in the evidence Locker, where the CSI girl has
- 1:26:35just deposited a bunch of stuff. She hides, she manages to avoid
- 1:26:39his wrath. All he wants is his trench coat
- 1:26:41and gloves and lacquer. Yeah, moss and Shaw find so many
- 1:26:48dead fucking cops. And the locker room, they get to
- 1:26:51the bullpen. There's just like, this whole,
- 1:26:53like intense sequence. This is where, like, we're not
- 1:26:56going to be Able to I will I want to talk about what a bit
- 1:26:59like one thing about this and I say what it reminds me.
- 1:27:01I'm first sure. It reminds me of the scene in
- 1:27:05the church wall. Freebirds playing in Kingsman.
- 1:27:09Yeah that's an intense scene. They're very similar.
- 1:27:12So beautifully choreographed. Yeah is like unbroken action.
- 1:27:17Yeah. And I don't want to say this is
- 1:27:19all like one shot because it does get split up a little bit
- 1:27:21but like water is shot in one. Take the way that they did this,
- 1:27:26they have like a camera that they, it's a computer.
- 1:27:30So they pre-programmed the movements, so It's moving around
- 1:27:33the scene just like getting all these angles and shots all in
- 1:27:36like one seamless steak. And they had to take like the
- 1:27:39stunt workers and choreograph, the fight around the camera
- 1:27:43movements that way they can get everything just right.
- 1:27:46Oh, the fighter Gabriel here. This is actually somebody in the
- 1:27:49green suits. This isn't actually one of the
- 1:27:51contortionist actually acting like that's a person acting
- 1:27:54normal but it's an actual person like doing these Gabriel
- 1:27:58movements. It's just they put the skin over
- 1:28:01him later in post production. Yeah, it's a really cool scene.
- 1:28:05What a creepy sentence. What?
- 1:28:07They put the skin over him later.
- 1:28:09Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. So Moss is like, call the
- 1:28:16fucking National Guard. Know you have because she has.
- 1:28:20She's like, I don't know, she's a picks up the phone and it's
- 1:28:22just like, why am I calling the cops later?
- 1:28:26Okay? Oh yeah, you're right.
- 1:28:27You're right, Maddie. We cut to her.
- 1:28:30She still thinks she's in her cell but then also, So she's
- 1:28:33like seeing did costs around her.
- 1:28:34She's like, wait, what? Moss?
- 1:28:38And Shaw almost get out like moss has been hit with a chair
- 1:28:42Shaw's. Been hit with a chair in Moss,
- 1:28:43has been sliced across her chair.
- 1:28:45Almost, it felt almost like a fuck you, because he was on his
- 1:28:49way out and then all of a sudden, yes, I picks up a chair
- 1:28:51tosses across the hall and hits them.
- 1:28:53Yeah, and then Gabriel jump through a window and this is
- 1:28:58where the Cs guy grow comes out, and she's like, oh God, you're
- 1:29:01bleeding and she pulls out herself.
- 1:29:02She calls 911. She was like, why am I calling
- 1:29:04the police? So I was like, call the
- 1:29:06paramedics. Shaw's gonna go check on Serena,
- 1:29:11because he is feared out. That's where Gabriel's going and
- 1:29:16Moss is going to wait for the paramedics, the CSI, girl.
- 1:29:19That's the end of them for this movie.
- 1:29:21So, but yeah, that's also, like, probably the second funniest
- 1:29:25line in the movie. That's why am I calling the cops
- 1:29:29Sydney tries to get into Serena's room because She's
- 1:29:32figured out all of this to if you know she wants to stop
- 1:29:37trying to act / be a princess. She she might be able to get one
- 1:29:41of those detective. Vacancies, it's about to open up
- 1:29:44the Seattle Police Station. She's talking to this Garden.
- 1:29:50He's like you cannot get through.
- 1:29:52Unless detective, Shaw is physically with you.
- 1:29:54I don't care what he says on the phone, and he starts grabbing
- 1:29:57his chest and she's like, oh God, are you having a heart
- 1:29:59attack? Let me go grab a doctor.
- 1:30:00He goes, it's my pacemaker and then his Just fucking explode.
- 1:30:04Yeah which is Nightmare fodder like the thought like a
- 1:30:08pacemaker supposed to keep you alive and like having Machinery
- 1:30:11inside of you is scary enough and then I'm sure anybody with a
- 1:30:14pacemaker. Anybody who knows anybody with a
- 1:30:16pacemaker would see the scene and be like, nope didn't need
- 1:30:18the thought of that happening in my head.
- 1:30:20Yeah but yeah. So Sydney gets in there
- 1:30:25Gabriel's there obviously so City tries to run in and help
- 1:30:28Maddie's in their shawls in there.
- 1:30:30Everybody's here. Serena tries to ask a real for
- 1:30:35forgiveness as I shouldn't have given you up like you were my
- 1:30:38son no matter what gave y'all throws, the knife at Shaw so he
- 1:30:43winds up back out in the hall shot, it's just He's just, he's
- 1:30:48the fucking curling of this movie, like, keeps showing up
- 1:30:52keeps getting his ass kicked - he doesn't die.
- 1:30:54Yeah. You hold his own in every
- 1:30:55encounter, find me, he's the Yamcha thats.
- 1:31:00No, no. Okay, Sydney is like, you know,
- 1:31:08trying to help or whatever. And then Gabriel throws a
- 1:31:11medical bed on her. She's been up against the wall
- 1:31:13and she's like, trying to plead for Maddie to come through.
- 1:31:17Ooh, and then she's as Baddie. Gabriel is the reason that you
- 1:31:20had all those miscarriages, he was feeding off the fetus, has
- 1:31:23to give himself strength and that's kind of what starts
- 1:31:26pulling Maddie out from. Like the like mind prison that
- 1:31:29she's in except then Gabriel shoot Sydney in the head.
- 1:31:35She's just comes out of nowhere. Yeah.
- 1:31:37Like it's it's gut-wrenching and you're like oh, fuck.
- 1:31:41And then Serena's like Gabriel. No, so sorry, I'm so sorry, I
- 1:31:44think Gabriel just likes mothers are But then things go dark.
- 1:31:50It's an all dark room Maddie comes up.
- 1:31:53Face is Gabriel. And she's like, guess what bitch
- 1:31:57I can play Mind Games to and she locks him up in a Cell inside
- 1:32:01the brain and then we find out that Sydney was never actually
- 1:32:03shot and Serena was never actually smothered.
- 1:32:06Yeah, it's holding the shy like Gabriel was holding the gun to
- 1:32:09her head, just still the entire time.
- 1:32:11So everybody just looking like what the fuck has happened?
- 1:32:13It would be a really scary situation.
- 1:32:16Guys that have this private conversation in front of other
- 1:32:18people. Yeah.
- 1:32:19And then she comes back to normal.
- 1:32:20And then she's like, she lives over off the bed.
- 1:32:24She's like, well, I've it's been me doing this stuff the entire
- 1:32:26time so I obviously have the string.
- 1:32:28So she's unlock superpowers now and then her skull just go.
- 1:32:33Yep. That's 100% medically accurate,
- 1:32:38that's how our brains work. If you ever have a traumatic
- 1:32:40brain injury, your skull will just itself back together.
- 1:32:43It's fine. Then they have a sister hug.
- 1:32:48Yeah. And that's the end of the movie.
- 1:32:50Yeah it is yeah it just there's no mid or post-credit scenes.
- 1:32:54It just ends with Maddie learning the power of
- 1:32:56Sisterhood. That's fine.
- 1:32:57It doesn't need any more than that.
- 1:32:59It's perfectly fine to cut it right there.
- 1:33:01Yes. That's the end of the ride,
- 1:33:03folks. All right.
- 1:33:04I'm keeping an eye and a half fucking good movie again.
- 1:33:07Yeah, I'm I love it. I understand how this can be
- 1:33:10divisive to people and I'm excited to talk about some of
- 1:33:13these reviews, but I have so much love for Or less movie?
- 1:33:17Yeah. I mean I'm the same.
- 1:33:19I'm keeping it nine and a half. It's it's so fucking Bonkers.
- 1:33:22I mean I it's an it's an 80s. I can't be be movie with a
- 1:33:29competent director and a budget. And I mean through and through
- 1:33:34that's what that is. I love this and it's it's just
- 1:33:37fun. It's just such a fun fucking
- 1:33:39movie. What is one thing that would
- 1:33:42have to change to bump it up to a perfect 10 for you?
- 1:33:45One thing Could change. I will change the soundtrack.
- 1:33:50I don't really care for the soundtrack in this thing.
- 1:33:53Soundtracks very important with horror movies and the Pixies.
- 1:33:57Remix was a strange decision for me.
- 1:34:01Okay. I like the Pixies sample, I
- 1:34:04enjoy it. I like I said, I just wish that
- 1:34:06the Cynthia parts. We got.
- 1:34:07I want a little a little more Goblin in the sound.
- 1:34:10Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Like, like Funk it up man.
- 1:34:13Yeah, get some water in there. Okay.
- 1:34:17Talia during this movie, she had a good time.
- 1:34:21So she started off. She was playing with her toys.
- 1:34:23She got a giant stuffed dog, the size of her, we named it.
- 1:34:27Mugsy. Her name is Gabriel.
- 1:34:31We do not need, we don't need to bring that energy into our
- 1:34:35house, okay? Okay.
- 1:34:37But she was like playing with him and she gets sleepy.
- 1:34:40She goes to the bed for a minute, but at an hour and 21
- 1:34:42minutes, she decided she needed to go out.
- 1:34:44And then for the rest of the maybe she was Playing and she
- 1:34:46was watching that and she was into the I wonder as Italian.
- 1:34:50The scenes coming up and she's like all right.
- 1:34:52Watch and she actually stood at the TV and watched it.
- 1:34:54Yeah. So press I think talking.
- 1:34:56Is it a 9? I think Talia.
- 1:34:57I agree. She enjoyed it and Zoe did
- 1:35:00watch. So we watched it.
- 1:35:01Yeah. She was very into it come.
- 1:35:05All right. So next up we got the internet
- 1:35:08reviews, internet's reviews. Alright, so for this one, I
- 1:35:14wanted to find a Critic. Okay, again, that makes sense
- 1:35:18because we've got a lot of listener reviews that we're
- 1:35:20going to be. Yeah.
- 1:35:20Exactly. And those are mixed to but yeah,
- 1:35:23I wanted to get somebody that did not have a good time with
- 1:35:27this movie. Yeah.
- 1:35:28So let's person rated it's hold on one second.
- 1:35:36I got it here somewhere. I'm sorry.
- 1:35:44So while Travis is looking for that, I'm going to tell you all
- 1:35:47a story and that's a story of fucking covid and how I was
- 1:35:50supposed to go see Pixies back in September, October.
- 1:35:54I don't know, it doesn't matter because everything's horrible
- 1:35:56and the show got canceled. Yeah, that sucked.
- 1:36:00It does. I mean, you know, I don't know
- 1:36:04if I would, I would watch the pictures live but no, no, that's
- 1:36:07really weren't gonna know. I wasn't.
- 1:36:09So this was a, it was a review from the associated.
- 1:36:13Impress by 1 c bar, she gave it a 25 out of 100.
- 1:36:17Wow. So just basically to sum up her
- 1:36:22thoughts on this. She says, Molina at least has
- 1:36:24originality going for it. It's also a thanklessly,
- 1:36:27humorless and offensively sadistic film that fails to
- 1:36:30capture any sort of authentic emotion or make any meaningful
- 1:36:33statements about trauma. The film, is all gory spectacle
- 1:36:37for the sake of gory spectacle and it fills beneath both 1 and
- 1:36:40Warner Bros who have made some very good films together.
- 1:36:44I feel like this whole thing went.
- 1:36:47I I don't understand. I just had to have like gone
- 1:36:51over their head. First of all, there was humor.
- 1:36:53Yeah. So I'm saying like there's
- 1:36:54intentional humor in this, it's so obvious.
- 1:36:57Second of all, She sang Gore is beneath James 11 of the I know
- 1:37:08what the fuck is that look? I'm all for people having their
- 1:37:11own thoughts and opinions like this movie.
- 1:37:14That's fine. I just feel like these are kind
- 1:37:16of weird criticisms like it really is and I don't how it is
- 1:37:21sadistic. It is mean-spirited at times but
- 1:37:24like is it offensive though? I don't really feel like it's a
- 1:37:27defensive. Yeah.
- 1:37:28I feel like it, like it. I mean, maybe the people who
- 1:37:31like actually have history with teratomas, you know, like that
- 1:37:35could be something. But I don't really think that
- 1:37:38it's like, insensitive. Yeah, but I'm not really one to
- 1:37:41speak on that. I don't know what their history
- 1:37:45is. It just seems kind of weird you
- 1:37:48know like it's just I don't know.
- 1:37:50It's just kind of campy. Yeah it's definitely.
- 1:37:54And I think this is one of those examples that we were talking
- 1:37:56about recently where it's campy, but it's campy playing it
- 1:38:00straight with ya. I have lends itself better to
- 1:38:02the camp in this scenario. Exactly.
- 1:38:04Yeah. Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:38:06Like, like I said, if you cannot like something, just like, give
- 1:38:11me a criticism I can fall back on.
- 1:38:13Yeah, like well don't just give false Information about because
- 1:38:18I mean, if you're telling me that one, like, why the fuck am
- 1:38:20I calling the police? How is that not humor?
- 1:38:24You know, that's intentional humor.
- 1:38:25You, they probably checked out at that point and I feel like,
- 1:38:28are you telling me the Killer is imaginary dramatic music?
- 1:38:31Sting like that camp played 100% straight and I'm sorry.
- 1:38:37That's I love that moment so much.
- 1:38:39It's hilarious Moss is like she is the straight man in this
- 1:38:43movie in a way that just absolutely fucking work.
- 1:38:46Exile of her character and I feel like she gets ignored for a
- 1:38:50lot of the characters that have them were obvious.
- 1:38:52Comedic lines. Yeah, I agree.
- 1:38:55It's no, no Sam. That's how we feel about that.
- 1:38:58So let's see how you guys feel about that.
- 1:39:01I try not to peek too much the reviews if it's Travis's pick of
- 1:39:07the week so I can be surprised by some of them but I like we
- 1:39:10share the account. So obviously I do see some of
- 1:39:12them and I do think that you all have some more Well, rounded
- 1:39:17criticism. Yeah, we have a total of ten
- 1:39:20reviews for this one from everybody.
- 1:39:21So thanks everybody for pitching in your thoughts.
- 1:39:24We always appreciate it. I'm going to rapid-fire some of
- 1:39:26these yeah. Rapid-fire rapid-fire, the good
- 1:39:29ones. We don't necessarily need to
- 1:39:30stare also short. It's okay.
- 1:39:32I can get through it. Okay.
- 1:39:34All right. Mona Clarke 123 says, I liked it
- 1:39:37was different. Yes, fun, good.
- 1:39:39I hope you suffer podcast as overly bad movie.
- 1:39:41That had one good scene / twist, okay.
- 1:39:44Probably referring to The police scene.
- 1:39:47Yeah, I have to imagine it's the policing and I mean it is overly
- 1:39:51dramatic. I think that's part of the
- 1:39:53thing. But if that's not what like
- 1:39:54that's part of its its thing is to be overly dramatic.
- 1:39:58But if that's not what you want, which I can see like with a
- 1:40:02James Bond film where dramatic is part of it.
- 1:40:06But overly dramatic isn't. Yeah.
- 1:40:07Like I can see how that could be a turn-off.
- 1:40:09Yeah, I can see that soon. Creepy girly, says awesome.
- 1:40:13Yes definitely awesome. Michael.
- 1:40:16Howard who gave us the review on Apple podcast earlier.
- 1:40:19He says I was sold on it until the twist then I've felt it
- 1:40:23would just got weird in a believable 6 out of 10.
- 1:40:27Yeah it definitely is not set in reality but it's not necessarily
- 1:40:32super super natural either. It's somewhere in between.
- 1:40:35Yeah, gak videoing says, wasn't for me, turn too much into an
- 1:40:39over-the-top action movie, which I feel like that happened more
- 1:40:42at the end. It did.
- 1:40:44It was very, very much, huh? We're for like the third for 3/4
- 1:40:48of the movie. Yeah.
- 1:40:49Really. That whole sequence?
- 1:40:51I+ last night, it's like, only like maybe the last 20 minutes
- 1:40:54of the movie, it gets like that. But I mean, that is a decent
- 1:40:56amount of the runtime. So if that's not what you're
- 1:40:58going in for, I could see how that could, ya know.
- 1:41:00I mean it definitely takes a turn into that there.
- 1:41:03Yeah, I mean, 20 minutes is a long time for an action
- 1:41:05sequence, and I'm surprised that I love that scene as much as I
- 1:41:09do, because I am notorious for not loving action scenes.
- 1:41:13I think it's just very well directed that it works.
- 1:41:16I agree nightmare or Frightmare Collective.
- 1:41:21Podcasts. Just says 5 Stars.
- 1:41:23Cool. Out of how many Frightmare.
- 1:41:26How does fives? I'm gonna assume 5iu of this
- 1:41:29movie. I'm telling you, you will love
- 1:41:31this movie. Stoney horse is such a fun hot
- 1:41:35mess, you can't look too deeply into it though.
- 1:41:38Yes. Yeah, that's what we're saying.
- 1:41:39Yeah. You just it's a surface level
- 1:41:41movie. Yeah, have fun with it in
- 1:41:44Feldman, says, loved it. And movies like this.
- 1:41:47A good example, is The Dark Half.
- 1:41:49Never heard of them. My mother Chuckles.
- 1:41:51Yeah. Mean theme horses.
- 1:41:53While movie hell of a ride, really enjoyed how crazy was
- 1:41:56cool and Robert its own. Hey, friend of the Pod.
- 1:42:00Thumbs down emoji. So came in we go, that's fine.
- 1:42:06Yeah, it's definitely not for everybody, so yeah, that's it,
- 1:42:09everybody's reviews. Thanks everybody again, for
- 1:42:12sending interviews, please do that.
- 1:42:13We love having everybody's thought spread on the show.
- 1:42:16Like we said, I mean clearly there's a good it's a very
- 1:42:18divisive movie. I feel like 50% elected 50%,
- 1:42:21didn't there? It's fair not to like it if you
- 1:42:23can articulate what you like it without lion.
- 1:42:26Yeah. Exactly.
- 1:42:27Yeah. Associated Press.
- 1:42:29Exactly. Yeah.
- 1:42:30Everybody else there I actually able to determine thoughts about
- 1:42:33that and I agree with everything that they say it's all very much
- 1:42:37like I can agree with those. All right, so who did you relate
- 1:42:44to? I related to?
- 1:42:50Man. I don't know, I'm gonna relate
- 1:42:54to Maddie purely for the fucked up dreams.
- 1:42:59I I've had some nightmares that like that fucked me up.
- 1:43:05Not like recently, but that's some scary instances.
- 1:43:10I don't think I'm like, visualizing any kills happen or
- 1:43:13anything but like sometimes I wake up in the middle of the
- 1:43:16night, I'm scared man. Like and I like crawl up really
- 1:43:20close to you within sometimes. Tell you won't let me get.
- 1:43:23See, so I'm like, I don't know. Like this is creepy.
- 1:43:27I have to like just get all bundled up by myself.
- 1:43:29You know, that's kind of, I'm the poster on this movie where
- 1:43:32she's like, looking freaked out. Like, that's me.
- 1:43:35I'm freaked, dude, that's it. Okay.
- 1:43:37Who's you really to I related to Sydney?
- 1:43:41Because I want to be a princess family Planet, okay?
- 1:43:45I can see like a dream sequel, man.
- 1:43:53Okay, I'm gonna start off by saying like I this is one that I
- 1:43:57don't want a sequel to and I know that's really nice.
- 1:44:00A nice single story. I think it's okay to franchise
- 1:44:04things. I feel like this is something
- 1:44:05that can just exist on its own, but if we're going to go in that
- 1:44:09maybe like explore some other cases that Simeon, Research
- 1:44:12Hospital, maybe, go that way. I were like get a buddy, cop
- 1:44:16movie. No, with Shaw and Moss.
- 1:44:18No. Listen man, if you're doing a
- 1:44:22sequel to this, you're going the can't be atsb, horror movie
- 1:44:26sequel path. You're taking Gabriel and you're
- 1:44:28just fleeting way more into the bizarre shit of this, okay?
- 1:44:33Okay. I get this movie, like, tried to
- 1:44:34trick you, and I think it's something serious and it wasn't
- 1:44:37next one. You can still have those aspects
- 1:44:39to it, but like we need even more into the craziness.
- 1:44:43So instead of getting out so instead of like Gabriel trying
- 1:44:48like Gabriel being a The real world and trying to trick Maddie
- 1:44:51into thinking. She's you know in her version of
- 1:44:54the real world like he's still trapped but like he starts
- 1:44:57pulling people into his like World.
- 1:45:00Maybe I wanted Like A Nightmare on Elm Street times.
- 1:45:03I want him to like fully escaped from her head and you know kind
- 1:45:07of like in fact like a corpse and half his own full body by
- 1:45:13himself, you know? It's kind of like taming the
- 1:45:19T-Rex when they go to the morning and they're trying to
- 1:45:21find the perfect body for the T-Rex.
- 1:45:24Yes. Yeah, let's put Gabriel in a
- 1:45:27T-Rex, okay sure. Yeah.
- 1:45:29Okay. All right.

- 1:46:09sunglasses, hates a strong word. I don't know if I hate it but I
- 1:46:12don't think it's a good movie per se but and I make him listen
- 1:46:17to the soundtrack constantly. Yeah.
