- 0:00Exodus chapter 32, let us pray. Our Father who's in heaven, holy
- 0:07is your name. May we keep your name.
- 0:11Holy God, may we have reverence unto your name.
- 0:16Lord, we pray for your Kingdom to come.
- 0:19Lord, help us not to build our own Kingdom here on this earth.
- 0:23Help us to be excited about your Kingdom.
- 0:25God, I pray that we look up and we see our redemption drawing
- 0:30near. God, I pray that we speed the
- 0:33day. God, we love the day of your
- 0:37coming. We are the five wise virgins.
- 0:42Lord, we prepare ourselves, we adorn ourselves, we wait
- 0:50expectantly. God, we know that you'll come at
- 0:54a day and an hour that we do not, no.
- 0:59So Lord, we wait well as we anticipate your arrival.
- 1:06God, we pray for your will to be done on this earth.
- 1:10God. Not our own selfish will, not
- 1:12our own wants and desires, God. But what does the Holy Word say
- 1:17about today and for such a time as this?
- 1:19God, that is what we want. We want Your word, not ours, not
- 1:24ours, not ours, Father, only yours.
- 1:28God. It is yours and yours and yours
- 1:30and yours alone that we want and desire for this world, God.
- 1:35Help us not to try to manufacture our own destinies,
- 1:39Lord. We get out of our own
- 1:45understanding and our own intellect, God.
- 1:47We get out of our own wants and desires.
- 1:50We get out of our own cleverness, God.
- 1:52And we only want your will to be done on this earth exactly the
- 1:59way that you told us that it would in your scriptures.
- 2:02Lord, we thank you. God, thank you for today.
- 2:12We thank you for waking us up and putting us on our feet.
- 2:16We thank you for daily bread. God, we thank you for feeding us
- 2:21manna and quail. We thank you, God, for the bread
- 2:25of life and the living water. God, we dine sumptuously upon
- 2:31your word. Forgive us, God, for all the
- 2:39times we've got it wrong, for all the times we've sinned
- 2:42against you, sinned against heaven.
- 2:48God, let us be an example unto the angelic realm.
- 2:55Help us to forgive those who have wronged us, God.
- 2:58Help us to forgive those who have trespassed against us.
- 3:01God, I pray that we'll be a forgiving people.
- 3:08Lord, keep us from the enemy today.
- 3:11Keep us from falling into the traps and the snares, into the
- 3:15pitfalls, God, that are set before us.
- 3:18God, be our map. Guide us home.
- 3:21Lord, help us not to fall in to sand and choose sand over you.
- 3:26God, I pray that we'll stay in the light.
- 3:30We will not go off into the darkness.
- 3:32Lord, protect us from the evil one, for yours is the Kingdom
- 3:38and the power and the glory and the honor, forever worthy to be
- 3:41praised. King Jesus high and lifted up,
- 3:44Jesus of Nazareth, Jesus the Christ, the Messiah, Yeshua.
- 3:49We thank you God for the sacrifice of our Lord.
- 3:54And it's in his holy and precious and powerful name that
- 3:58we ask all of these things. Amen.
- 4:04Well, let's start in verse one. And when the people saw that
- 4:10Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people
- 4:14gathered themselves together with Aaron and said to him, up
- 4:20make us gods which shall go before us.
- 4:24For As for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the
- 4:29land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.
- 4:33How interesting, friends, how quick we are to forget all of
- 4:39the things that God has done for us in our lives.
- 4:42And there is a sin of forgetfulness.
- 4:45And that is what is happening here with the Israelites.
- 4:48And they're going to pay a very grave penalty for this sin of
- 4:53forgetfulness. They say we do not even know
- 4:55what has become of Moses up Aaron make us gods.
- 5:02Let's see what happens. Verse 2 and Aaron said to them
- 5:06break off the golden earrings which are in the ears of your
- 5:10wives, your sons, your daughters and bring them to me.
- 5:14Look at how he immediately capitulated to their ridiculous
- 5:18claims instead of telling them that this was Pagan idolatry,
- 5:22that it was deceitful and deceptive, that it was
- 5:25disgusting in the nostrils of a holy God.
- 5:29Three. And all the people broke off the
- 5:32golden earrings which were in their ears, and brought them
- 5:35unto Aaron. And if you remember from
- 5:38previous chapters, friends, God told Moses when he was on Mount
- 5:43Sinai, when he was enveloped in the manifest glory of God for 40
- 5:48days and for 40 nights. He told Moses for them to bring
- 5:53all of these offerings, to build the Tabernacle with the direct
- 5:57specifications that God had given him.
- 6:00And now we see this counterpart, we see this counterfeit, we see
- 6:07how the enemy wiggles his way in to the congregation, and he gets
- 6:12them to choose the lesser over God.
- 6:16And with God we must wait. Well, even in the silence,
- 6:20friends. And the greatest work of God is
- 6:23done in the waiting for. And he received them at their
- 6:29hand and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made
- 6:34it a molten calf. And they said, these be your
- 6:38gods, O Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt.
- 6:42Look how they chose a man made image instead of a living God
- 6:48and they chose what they could see rather than having faith to
- 6:52believe in what they could not see.
- 6:54And it's no different in our day and our hour.
- 6:56It's no different for us friends.
- 6:59We must choose what we cannot see.
- 7:01Friends. That is what we are called to
- 7:04do. 5 And when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it.
- 7:12And Aaron made proclamation and said tomorrow is a feast to the
- 7:18Lord. So look at how Aaron quickly
- 7:20turns tail and he is amazed at what his hands have made.
- 7:25What a ridiculous notion this is to think about Aaron, who is
- 7:30supposed to be leading the congregation, and what is he
- 7:33doing? He is going and actually giving
- 7:37in to their ridiculous requests. And not only did he give into
- 7:42it, now he has built some kind of shrine unto this Pagan
- 7:46idolatry. How disgusting and deplorable
- 7:49our flesh is, apart from following after God. 5 And when
- 7:55Aaron saw it, he built an altar. 6 And they rose up early on the
- 7:59morning, and they offered burnt offerings and brought peace
- 8:02offerings, and the people sat down to eat and drink, and they
- 8:06rose up to play. You can see here in this
- 8:11disgusting verse that they have given themselves in to Pagan
- 8:17idolatry of worshipping satanic entities.
- 8:23And this is just like Satan to wiggle his way into the
- 8:26congregation and to get them to choose to worship the lesser
- 8:32things that they can see rather than what they cannot see.
- 8:37And the way of God is faith, and it is impossible to please God
- 8:41without faith. But how many of us choose what
- 8:44we can see and touch and feel and taste over a living God who
- 8:49asked us to have faith? And you can see here that they
- 8:53are giving themselves completely and totally over to this
- 8:59disgusting act of offering sacrifices to a God that cannot
- 9:07see and cannot hear. IS is not alive.
- 9:11Every other God is an idol, friends.
- 9:14There's only one true living God.
- 9:16And it is the God of the Jews. That is who we attach ourselves
- 9:20to. That is who he chose to bring
- 9:22the Messiah through. King Jesus was a Jew.
- 9:25Don't forget it, friends. And we attach ourselves to this
- 9:29Messianic lineage, friends. And here you can see the people.
- 9:35They are not only sacrificing unto it, but they have given
- 9:40themselves over to revelry. They've given themselves over to
- 9:44the disgusting practice of play. 7 And the Lord said unto Moses,
- 9:54Get you down from your people, which you brought out of the
- 9:58land of Egypt. They have corrupted themselves.
- 10:01So look at how God turns it around and says, Moses, these
- 10:04are your people. You brought them out.
- 10:06He doesn't even claim them for himself. 8 And they've turned
- 10:09aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them.
- 10:13They have made a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have
- 10:16sacrificed there unto it, and said, These be your gods, O
- 10:21Israel, which have brought you up under the land of Egypt.
- 10:24Nothing is missed on God. God is everywhere.
- 10:27He's omnipresent. He's everywhere all at once.
- 10:30He sees what is happening there in the camp while Moses is up on
- 10:34the mount with him. Nothing is missed upon him.
- 10:37He sees that they have made these graven images and they've
- 10:40worshipped them and what they've said.
- 10:42He's counted it all. Moses is yet to figure it out.
- 10:46Nine And the Lord said to Moses, I've seen this people, and
- 10:50behold, it is a stiff necked people.
- 10:52This is like an animal who refuses to go in the way that
- 10:56the farmer is trying to get it to go. 10 Now therefore let let
- 11:03me alone, that my wrath may grow hot against them, that I may
- 11:08consume them, and I will make of you a great nation.
- 11:12Don't miss it, friends. Here God is willing to destroy
- 11:15the entire nation and make an entire nation again out of
- 11:18Moses. What an interesting thought.
- 11:26Let's see how Moses takes it. 11 And Moses begged the Lord his
- 11:34God, and said, Lord, why do you, why does your wrath grow hot
- 11:41against your people, which you have brought forth out of the
- 11:44land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand?
- 11:48So we can see here in the streamlined theology that is
- 11:53consistent throughout all of Scripture, we know that God
- 11:57already knows the beginning and the end, but he's trying to get
- 12:00out of Moses and develop Moses into the man of God, the friend
- 12:05of God, and he wants Moses to advocate for his people. 12 Why
- 12:13should the Egyptian speak and say, for mischief?
- 12:16Did he bring them out to slay them in the mountains and to
- 12:19consume them from the face of the earth?
- 12:22Turn from your fierce wrath and repent of this evil against your
- 12:26people. Moses has yet to go down and see
- 12:29what's actually happening, but he understands the context that
- 12:33God has promised Abraham, Isaac and Jacob that he was going to
- 12:36bless them and he was going to make them into a mighty nation
- 12:40and he's going to lead them into the Promised land.
- 12:43And here all he's doing is reminding God of the promises of
- 12:47God. And we are called to do the
- 12:48same. Go into scripture, pull out
- 12:52scripture and remind God of what His Word says, and hold God to
- 12:57what His Word says. God is not a liar.
- 13:00God is not like us as a man. God will make good on all of His
- 13:05promises forever and ever. Amen. 13 Remember Abraham and
- 13:12Isaac and Israel, your servants, to whom you swore by your own
- 13:17self and said to them, I will multiply your seed as the stars
- 13:22of heaven, and all this land I've spoken of I will give to
- 13:25your seed, and they shall inherit it forever.
- 13:28We're talking about the land of Canaan, friends.
- 13:30We're talking about Genesis 15, friends.
- 13:33God said that he there was no one greater than God that he
- 13:37could swear by, and so he swore by himself that he was going to
- 13:41do the things that Moses is reminding God about 1514.
- 13:47And the Lord repented of the evil which he thought to do to
- 13:50his people. The Lord relented, friends, the
- 13:54Lord. All he did was get this
- 13:57character out of Moses that he wanted.
- 14:00God already knew what he was going to do, but he was getting
- 14:04Moses to the place where Moses could be of the great advocate
- 14:07for the people of Israel and to love them. 14 And Moses turned
- 14:12and went down from the mount, and the 2 tables of the
- 14:15testimony were in his hand. The tables were written on both
- 14:19their sides, on the one side, and on the other were they
- 14:22written. 16 And the tables were the work of God, and the writing
- 14:26was the writing of God graven upon the tables. 17 And when
- 14:32Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said
- 14:36to Moses, There's noise of war in the camp.
- 14:39We can see that this Joshua was a general.
- 14:42His mind was fixated upon these engagements.
- 14:46He already had this war mind in his mind that he could go and he
- 14:51could overtake all the land of Canaan as God wanted him to.
- 14:55We see that he is just already reprogrammed as a great general.
- 15:0418 And he said it is not the voice of them that shout for
- 15:08mastery, neither it is the voice of them that cry for being
- 15:12overcome, but the noise of them that sing.
- 15:15Do I hear? So Moses is saying this is not a
- 15:19victorious people, and this is not a beaten people that have
- 15:23that have experienced war. This is a very deplorable sound
- 15:31of people that are dancing and engaging in sexual activity one
- 15:38with the other outside of the marital connotation, and they
- 15:46are in a very disgusting way is what Moses is pointing out. 19
- 15:54And it came to pass as soon as they came near to the camp that
- 15:58he saw the calf, the dancing and Moses's anger grew hot and he
- 16:07cast the tables out of his hand and broke them beneath the
- 16:10mountain. So here we see the anger of
- 16:13Moses, and God has to get this anger under control.
- 16:20We could see that this anger is what's going to cause Moses not
- 16:24to reach the Promised Land. But this was a holy indignation.
- 16:31And he broke the tables of stone at the base of the mountain. 20
- 16:38And he took the calf which they had made, and he burned it in
- 16:42the fire, and he ground it to powder, and he shrouded upon the
- 16:46water, and he made the children of Israel drink of it.
- 16:50Think about it, friends. Moses's anger was so hot that he
- 16:54took this false idol and he grounded into powder and he
- 16:59mixed it with water and he forced them to drink of the very
- 17:05God that they were trying to worship, to show them the
- 17:09idiocracy of worshiping a man made image instead of a living
- 17:15God. And they would have to pass this
- 17:18through their bodies, and it would become waste out of their
- 17:23bodies. And I'm sure that it was bitter
- 17:26as they took it down. One.
- 17:31And Moses said to Aaron, What did this people to you, that you
- 17:36have brought so great a sin upon them?
- 17:38Moses says to Aaron, How deplorable and despicable have
- 17:44you become, that you have degraded yourself down to the
- 17:49request of this heathen people. 22 And Aaron said, Let not the
- 17:57anger of my Lord grow hot. You know your people, that they
- 18:02are set on mischief. What a despicable excuse. 23 For
- 18:09they said to me, Make us gods which shall go before us.
- 18:13For As for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the
- 18:17land of Egypt, we know not what has become of him.
- 18:21Think about it, friends, For 40 days and for 40 nights they did
- 18:25not know what was going on with Moses.
- 18:27They thought that perhaps he was consumed by the fire that they
- 18:31saw at the top of Mount Sinai. And here they go to Aaron, and
- 18:36they say to Aaron, Make us these false gods.
- 18:40And Aaron gives over to them. 24 And I said to them, Whosoever
- 18:47has any gold, let them break it off.
- 18:49So they gave it to me, and I cast it into the fire, and there
- 18:53came out this calf. This was a ridiculous excuse.
- 18:59And Moses knew that it was all a farce.
- 19:03Aaron did not just throw earrings into a fire and out
- 19:07popped a golden calf. It does not work that way.
- 19:11Notice how Aaron did not ever put in to the details that he
- 19:15molted it down and graved it with a tool into the shape of
- 19:21this golden calf. 25 And when Moses saw that the people were
- 19:28naked, Aaron made them naked unto their shame among their
- 19:35enemies. Do you see them dancing?
- 19:38Do you see them feasting and offering sacrifices and laying
- 19:42down one with the other naked and dancing, and reveling
- 19:46friends in a drunken stupor to their own shame?
- 19:51And it is to our shame as well when we engage in this
- 19:54disgusting, deplorable act. 26 And Moses stood in the gate of
- 20:03the camp and said, Who is on the Lord's side, Let him come to me.
- 20:09And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together to
- 20:13him. So this was the Levitical line,
- 20:16the priesthood friends who were going to minister in the temple.
- 20:2227 He said to them, This is what the Lord God of Israel says.
- 20:28Put every man his sword by his side.
- 20:32Go in and out from gate to gate throughout the camp.
- 20:35Slay every man his brother, every man his companion, every
- 20:43man his neighbor. So what Moses is telling these
- 20:48sons of Levi to do, you have to understand, there are 2 million
- 20:53people out here in the wilderness, and they've all
- 20:57given themselves over to this drunken revelry.
- 21:00And Moses is going to carve out the leaders of all of this
- 21:06disgusting, deplorable revolt. And he tells the sons of Levi
- 21:15not to hold back, because they might be their brother, they
- 21:21might be their neighbor or their companion.
- 21:24Don't hold back. But anybody who is stuck in this
- 21:27drunken stupor, who refuses to come unto the Lord, must be done
- 21:32away with. 28 And the children of Levi did, according to the
- 21:38word of Moses. And there fell of the people
- 21:40that day about 3000 men. This was a small amount in
- 21:45relation to the 2 million, but it was just enough to get it all
- 21:49to stop and for the people to understand that they have made a
- 21:53grave error. 29 For Moses had said, Consecrate yourselves
- 22:00today to the Lord, every man upon his son and upon his
- 22:04brother, that he may bestow upon you a blessing this day.
- 22:07So Moses had told them to consecrate themselves, and
- 22:11anyone who was found refusing to do so was put to death. 30 And
- 22:17it came to pass on the Morrow that Moses said to the people,
- 22:22You have sinned a great sin, and now I will go up unto the Lord,
- 22:27Perhaps I shall make an atonement for your sin.
- 22:31So Moses is going to intercede on their behalf. 31 And Moses
- 22:36returned to the Lord and said, Oh, this people have sinned a
- 22:40great sin, and have made them gods of gold.
- 22:43God already knew and Moses was an advocate for them and then
- 22:48Moses saw it all. Now Moses is back to God and
- 22:51he's saying, I did not know how terrible it was. 32 Yet now, if
- 22:59you will forgive their sin, and if not blot me, I pray you, out
- 23:05of the book which you have written, Lamb's Book of life.
- 23:09So here Moses is advocating and interceding on the point, the
- 23:13same point that Paul makes in the New Testament, anathema, to
- 23:18be completely cut off so that others can come in.
- 23:23Do you have that heart today, friends?
- 23:25I pray that you do. I pray that you have a heart for
- 23:28people around the world, not just those who look like you and
- 23:32sound like you, but people around the entire globe.
- 23:36Friends, there will be representatives of every nation
- 23:39and every tongue and every people group there with us. 33
- 23:47And then the Lord said to Moses, Whosoever has sinned against me,
- 23:52him I will blot out of my book. 34 Therefore now go lead the
- 24:00people to the place of which I've spoken to you.
- 24:03Behold, my Angel will go before you.
- 24:06Nevertheless, in the day when I visit, I will visit their sin
- 24:10upon them. 35 And the Lord plagued the people, because they
- 24:15made the calf which Aaron made. So here God is pulling out.
- 24:20He's saying Just go. I promised Abraham, Isaac, and
- 24:25Jacob the land flowing with milk and honey.
- 24:29Sure you can go. I will not go with you because
- 24:32if I go with you, you will not even make it there, because I
- 24:35will consume you in my holy perfection.
- 24:41You know, if you go back to the book of Genesis, right before
- 24:43God flooded the earth, it says that he grieved God, that He had
- 24:47made mankind. And you can see why our hearts
- 24:50are set upon destruction. They're bent upon rebelling
- 24:55against the holy God. We need the blood of Jesus to
- 25:00make us perfect. We need every day to wake up and
- 25:03give our lives back over to the Lord Jesus Christ.
- 25:06We can't rest on yesterday, the winds.
- 25:10We need to make sure that every day that you wake up, you give
- 25:14your entire life over to the Lord Jesus Christ.
- 25:17This continual renewal unto God, that is how we'll know that we
- 25:22know that we know that we know that we belong to Him.
- 25:25Do not wander. Do not grieve the Holy Spirit.
- 25:30Get your heart right with God today.
- 25:32Make it right with God today, for today is the day of
- 25:35salvation. I hope you've been blessed by
- 25:38this amazing chapter in God's Word.
- 25:40I know I sure have. I'm praying for every single one
- 25:43of you. I love you.
- 25:45We'll see you back here tomorrow.
- 25:47God bless you.
