- 0:00Welcome to Pomoja Podcast. The place where stronger
- 0:04lives are built, faith is strengthened, hearts
- 0:07are encouraged, and Christ -centered homes are
- 0:11shaped through ordinary conversations that become
- 0:14extraordinary encounters with God's truth. I'm
- 0:17your host, Barry Mwamba. Last time, we discovered
- 0:22something that completely changed the way I look
- 0:25at difficult seasons. We discovered that while
- 0:29David was still sitting in the cave, God was
- 0:32already gathering four hundred men, while Joseph
- 0:36was still sleeping in prison. God was already
- 0:40disturbing Pharaoh's dreams. While Shadrach,
- 0:43Meshach, and Abednego were walking toward the
- 0:47furnace, God had already gone before them. And
- 0:51maybe, while you're walking through your own
- 0:54valley today. God is already moving in ways you
- 0:58cannot yet see. That conversation left me with
- 1:02another question, one that honestly stayed in
- 1:05my heart. If God is already moving, why doesn't
- 1:09he simply tell us everything? Have you ever wondered
- 1:13that? I certainly have. Why doesn't God simply
- 1:17tell Joseph, don't worry, you'll only be in prison
- 1:21for two more years? Why doesn't he tell David,
- 1:24Those 400 men are already on their way. Why doesn't
- 1:29he tell Daniel, the lions won't touch you? Why
- 1:32doesn't he tell Abraham exactly when Isaac will
- 1:36be born? Wouldn't that make life so much easier?
- 1:40Wouldn't faith become so much easier? The more
- 1:43I thought about that, the more I realized. Perhaps
- 1:47God isn't trying to make faith easier. Perhaps
- 1:51he's trying to make faith deeper. Because if
- 1:54God explained everything, would we still need
- 1:57faith? That question brought me straight to Hebrews
- 2:01chapter 11. And I think for the first time I
- 2:06began reading it differently. For years I thought
- 2:10Hebrews 11 was simply a chapter about great men
- 2:14and women of faith. Now I think it's something
- 2:17much deeper. It's a chapter about ordinary people.
- 2:21who kept trusting God while they didn't understand
- 2:25what he was doing. That changes everything because
- 2:29suddenly faith is no longer about seeing the
- 2:33miracle. Faith becomes trusting God before the
- 2:37miracle. Faith is no longer celebrating the answer.
- 2:42Faith becomes continuing to pray before the answer
- 2:45arrives. Faith is no longer standing on the other
- 2:49side of the Red Sea. Faith is taking the first
- 2:52step while the sea is still closed. And then
- 2:56one sentence came into my spirit, a sentence
- 3:00that has stayed with me ever since. Faith is
- 3:05not understanding the author. Faith is trusting
- 3:08the author while he is still writing. The more
- 3:11I thought about that, the more I realized that's
- 3:15exactly what every person in Hebrews 11 was doing.
- 3:19None of them had the complete story. None of
- 3:24them could see the last chapter. None of them
- 3:28knew how everything would unfold. They simply
- 3:32trusted the one holding the pen. And maybe that's
- 3:37where you and I are today. Not at the end of
- 3:41the story, not even close. We're somewhere in
- 3:45the middle chapters. The chapters where questions
- 3:48are still louder than answers, where promises
- 3:52seem bigger than circumstances, where prayers
- 3:55continue even when heaven appears silent. And
- 3:59perhaps that is exactly where faith does its
- 4:03greatest work. There is something I've noticed
- 4:08about almost every servant of God. None of them
- 4:12had the privilege of reading the last chapter.
- 4:16while they were living the middle one. Joseph
- 4:20didn't know prison would become the pathway to
- 4:22the palace. David didn't know the cave would
- 4:26become the birthplace of a kingdom. Abraham didn't
- 4:30know how God would fulfill his promise. Paul
- 4:34didn't know his prison letters would one day
- 4:36become part of the New Testament. They all had
- 4:40something in common. They knew God, but they
- 4:44did not know the entire plan. And maybe that's
- 4:48exactly how God intended it. Because if they
- 4:51had known everything, it wouldn't have required
- 4:54faith. Faith lives where explanations stop. Faith
- 4:59begins where certainty ends. Faith continues
- 5:03walking even when understanding cannot. And I
- 5:07wonder if that's exactly why some of us are struggling.
- 5:11Not because we lack God's promises. But because
- 5:15we want explanations when God is inviting us
- 5:18to trust and maybe That's exactly where faith
- 5:23does its greatest work Not after the miracle
- 5:27before it not after the answer before it not
- 5:32after understanding before understanding ever
- 5:36arrives I think that's why Hebrews chapter 11
- 5:39has become one of my favorite chapters in the
- 5:42Bible Because if you remove the miracles for
- 5:46just a moment, what remains? People, ordinary
- 5:51men and women, living one ordinary day at a time,
- 5:55making one decision of obedience after another,
- 5:59without knowing how their stories would end.
- 6:03Sometimes we read Hebrews 11 as though those
- 6:06men and women knew they would become heroes of
- 6:09the faith, they didn't. Abraham had no idea millions
- 6:14of people would one day call him the father of
- 6:17faith. Joseph never imagined that one day children
- 6:21would learn his story in Sunday school around
- 6:24the world. David never thought the songs he was
- 6:27writing in lonely caves would become worship
- 6:29for generations. Paul never imagined that letters
- 6:33written from prison would become part of the
- 6:35New Testament. They were simply living, trusting,
- 6:39obeying, one day at a time. And maybe that's
- 6:42exactly what faith looks like, not seeing the
- 6:46entire staircase, but taking the next step because
- 6:50you trust the one who asked you to move. I think
- 6:54sometimes we make faith look much more complicated
- 6:57than it really is. We imagine faith as something
- 7:01extraordinary, something reserved for spiritual
- 7:05giants. But when I read Hebrews 11, I don't see
- 7:09superheroes. I see people who simply decided,
- 7:13I'm going to trust God today. That's all Abraham
- 7:17could do. That's all Sarah could do. That's all
- 7:21Moses could do. That's all Daniel could do. That's
- 7:25all Paul could do. And maybe that's all God is
- 7:29asking from us today, not to understand the next
- 7:3210 years, simply to trust Him today. Because
- 7:36the truth is, God rarely explains himself completely.
- 7:41Have you noticed that? He gives Abraham a promise,
- 7:45but not a calendar. He gives Joseph dreams, but
- 7:49not an explanation of the prison. He anoints
- 7:53David King, but doesn't tell him about the caves.
- 7:57He calls Moses, but doesn't describe 40 years
- 8:01in the wilderness. He calls Jeremiah, but doesn't
- 8:05promise everyone will listen. He calls Paul,
- 8:08but also tells him, I will show him how much
- 8:12he must suffer for my name. God gives enough
- 8:15light to take the next step, but rarely enough
- 8:19to see the entire journey. And maybe that is
- 8:24intentional, because if God showed me every chapter
- 8:28of my life today, would I still need faith tomorrow?
- 8:32Probably not. I would simply be following information.
- 8:36Faith begins, where explanations end. Faith continues,
- 8:41when emotions fluctuate. Faith remains, when
- 8:45circumstances refuse to change. Faith keeps praying,
- 8:49when heaven appears silent. Faith keeps worshiping,
- 8:54when the prison doors remain closed. Faith keeps
- 8:57loving, when life becomes difficult. Faith keeps
- 9:01obeying, when obedience doesn't immediately make
- 9:04sense. And I wonder if that's why God never gave
- 9:09Joseph an explanation. Because Joseph didn't
- 9:13need an explanation. He needed God's presence.
- 9:17David didn't need an explanation. He needed God's
- 9:21presence. Daniel didn't need an explanation.
- 9:24He needed God's presence. Paul didn't need an
- 9:27explanation. He needed God's presence. Do you
- 9:31see something beautiful here? The more I read
- 9:34the Bible, the more I realize God often gives
- 9:38us something better than explanations. He gives
- 9:40us himself. Moses understood that. When God told
- 9:45him, my presence will go with you, Moses didn't
- 9:49ask for a better strategy. He didn't ask for
- 9:52a detailed map. He simply answered, if your presence
- 9:56does not go with us, do not send us from here.
- 10:00Why? because Moses had already discovered something.
- 10:05The presence of God is greater than knowing tomorrow.
- 10:09And I think that's where faith reaches maturity.
- 10:13Not when I finally receive every answer I've
- 10:16been asking for, but when I can honestly say,
- 10:20Lord, I still have questions. There are still
- 10:24things I don't understand. There are still prayers
- 10:28I'm waiting to see answered. But I know you,
- 10:32and knowing you is enough for me to keep walking.
- 10:36I believe that is the faith Hebrews chapter 11
- 10:40is talking about. Not faith that understands
- 10:43everything, faith that trusts someone, faith
- 10:47that has discovered. The author is trustworthy,
- 10:51even when the chapter being written doesn't yet
- 10:55make sense, and perhaps. That's why none of those
- 11:00men and women quit Not because they had all the
- 11:03answers but because they had become convinced
- 11:07that the one writing their story would never
- 11:10stop being faithful and That thought led me to
- 11:15another question if faith is trusting the author
- 11:18while he is still writing What happens? When
- 11:23the chapter you're living looks nothing like
- 11:26the promise he gave you I think that's where
- 11:30Abraham's story begins. Because if there is one
- 11:35man in the Bible who understood what it meant
- 11:37to trust God without having every answer, it
- 11:40was Abraham. Think about it for a moment. God
- 11:45comes to Abraham and makes an incredible promise.
- 11:49I will make you into a great nation. It's a beautiful
- 11:54promise, an extraordinary promise. But there
- 11:58was one problem. Abraham didn't even have a son.
- 12:02Have you ever thought about that? God spoke about
- 12:05a nation while Abraham was still waiting for
- 12:09one child. I don't know about you, but if I had
- 12:13been Abraham, I probably would have had a few
- 12:16questions. Lord, you set a nation. Can we first
- 12:21talk about one son? And maybe... That's exactly
- 12:25where faith begins. Faith begins when God's promise
- 12:31seems much bigger than your present reality.
- 12:33Every morning Abraham woke up. The promise remained.
- 12:37But nothing around him seemed to change. Another
- 12:40day passed. Nothing. Another month. Nothing.
- 12:45Another year. Still nothing. Can you imagine
- 12:48that? The promise hadn't changed. God hadn't
- 12:52changed. But Abraham's circumstances looked exactly
- 12:55the same. I think that's where many believers
- 12:58quietly struggle. We don't struggle because God
- 13:02has never spoken. We struggle because He spoke.
- 13:06And then everything became quiet. We expected
- 13:09immediate movement. God invited us into waiting.
- 13:13And waiting is probably one of the greatest classrooms
- 13:17of faith, because waiting forces us to answer
- 13:20one question. Do I trust God because I already
- 13:25see the miracle? Or do I trust Him simply because
- 13:29He spoke? Those are two very different kinds
- 13:33of faith. One depends on visible evidence. The
- 13:36other depends on the character of God. And when
- 13:39I read Hebrews chapter 11, I realize God never
- 13:44asked Abraham to believe in the impossible. He
- 13:48asked Abraham to believe. In him, that changes
- 13:53everything, because faith is not confidence in
- 13:56circumstances. Faith is confidence in the one
- 14:00who made the promise. The promise may seem impossible,
- 14:04but the promiser remains faithful. Sarah eventually
- 14:09learned the same lesson. At first, she laughed,
- 14:14not because she hated God, because the promise
- 14:17seemed impossible. Humanly speaking, It was impossible.
- 14:21Time had already spoken. Age had already spoken.
- 14:25Biology had already spoken. Everything around
- 14:28her was saying, it cannot happen. But God had
- 14:33already spoken. And when God speaks, His word
- 14:37always has the final authority. That's why I
- 14:41love something the angel asked Sarah. Is anything
- 14:44too hard for the Lord? Notice, God didn't explain
- 14:48how. He simply reminded her who he is. Sometimes,
- 14:54God answers our questions, not by explaining
- 14:57his methods, but by revealing his character.
- 15:01That thought really challenged me because I realized
- 15:05I spend too much time asking, how? While God
- 15:09keeps reminding me, look at who is speaking.
- 15:12Maybe faith has never been about understanding
- 15:15God's methods. Maybe faith has always been about
- 15:19knowing God's heart. And that's exactly what
- 15:22Abraham learned. He never knew every detail.
- 15:26He simply became convinced that the God who made
- 15:30the promise was faithful enough to fulfill it.
- 15:35Then something beautiful happened in my heart.
- 15:38I realized every servant of God eventually reaches
- 15:42this place. A place where they stop depending
- 15:45on explanations and start depending on God's
- 15:49character. Joseph reached that place. David reached
- 15:54that place. Daniel reached that place. Paul reached
- 15:58that place. And perhaps, God is inviting us there
- 16:02too. Not to understand everything, but to know
- 16:06Him so deeply that even when life doesn't make
- 16:10sense, our confidence in Him never changes. Because
- 16:15once you know the author, you stop panicking
- 16:19every time you don't understand the chapter.
- 16:23And that made me think about Joseph again, because
- 16:26no one, perhaps more than Joseph, lived through
- 16:31chapters that looked completely opposite to the
- 16:35promise God had given him. Yet somehow, he never
- 16:40stopped believing. God gave Joseph two dreams,
- 16:47beautiful dreams, powerful dreams, dreams about
- 16:51purpose, dreams about influence, dreams about
- 16:54leadership. Imagine being Joseph that morning.
- 16:58You're 17 years old. God has just shown you something
- 17:02extraordinary about your future. If someone had
- 17:05asked Joseph, what do you think happens next?
- 17:10What do you think he would have answered? Perhaps,
- 17:13God is about to open doors. Perhaps my life is
- 17:17about to become easier. Instead, his brothers
- 17:22hated him. Then they betrayed him. Then they
- 17:26threw him into a pit. Then they sold him as a
- 17:29slave. Then he was falsely accused. Then he was
- 17:33forgotten in prison. Can you imagine how confusing
- 17:36that must have been? Because if I compare the
- 17:39dream to the journey, Nothing seems to match.
- 17:44The dream speaks about leadership. The journey
- 17:47speaks about slavery. The dream speaks about
- 17:51honor. The journey speaks about humiliation.
- 17:55The dream speaks about influence. The journey
- 17:58speaks about isolation. Have you ever had a season
- 18:02like that, where what God promised and what you
- 18:05are experiencing seem to be moving in opposite
- 18:09directions? I think many believers quietly lose
- 18:12heart right there. Not because God failed to
- 18:16speak, but because life stopped looking like
- 18:20the promise. And yet, Joseph never stopped being
- 18:24Joseph. Have you ever noticed that? He served
- 18:28faithfully in Potiphar's house. He served faithfully
- 18:31in prison. He interpreted dreams with the same
- 18:35integrity, whether he was wearing a servant's
- 18:37garment or a prisoner's garment. His circumstances
- 18:41kept changing. His character didn't. That really
- 18:44challenged me. Because sometimes we postpone
- 18:48faithfulness until the miracle arrives. Joseph
- 18:52remained faithful before the miracle. He remained
- 18:55honest before justice. He remained excellent
- 18:59before promotion. He remained dependent on God
- 19:03before deliverance. And maybe that's what faith
- 19:07really looks like. Faith is not waiting to become
- 19:11faithful when life finally makes sense. Faith
- 19:15is remaining faithful while life makes no sense
- 19:18at all. Then something else caught my attention.
- 19:23Joseph never spent his life trying to force God's
- 19:26promise to happen. He didn't escape the prison.
- 19:29He didn't manipulate Pharaoh. He didn't seek
- 19:32revenge against his brothers. He simply remained
- 19:35faithful where God had placed him. I wonder how
- 19:39often we exhaust ourselves trying to open doors
- 19:42that only God can open. Joseph teaches us something
- 19:46beautiful. Your responsibility is faithfulness.
- 19:51God's responsibility is fulfillment. That takes
- 19:55a tremendous burden off our shoulders because
- 19:58faith doesn't have to manufacture the miracle.
- 20:02Faith simply continues walking with God until
- 20:05his time arrives and maybe That's why Joseph
- 20:09could later say to his brothers, you meant evil
- 20:13against me, but God meant it for good. Notice,
- 20:17he didn't say, now I understand everything. He
- 20:21simply recognized that God had been writing another
- 20:24story behind the one everyone else could see.
- 20:28The pit wasn't the end. The slavery wasn't the
- 20:32end. The prison wasn't the end. They were chapters.
- 20:36necessary chapters, chapters Joseph would never
- 20:40have chosen, but chapters God refused to waste.
- 20:44And then it suddenly became personal for me.
- 20:48How many chapters in my own life have I been
- 20:52trying to close while God was still writing them?
- 20:56How many times have I called something a failure,
- 20:59that God was calling preparation? How many times
- 21:03have I prayed, Lord, get me out? while God was
- 21:07quietly saying, Barry, I'm not finished writing
- 21:11this chapter yet. That thought changed me, because
- 21:15maybe the goal is not to escape every difficult
- 21:19chapter. Maybe the goal is to remain faithful
- 21:23until the author turns the page. And when I thought
- 21:29about that, my mind immediately went back to
- 21:32David. Because if Joseph teaches us how to trust
- 21:36the promise, David teaches us how to worship
- 21:40while you're still waiting for it. And perhaps
- 21:43that's where we'll begin next time. Because David,
- 21:48Daniel, and Paul all discovered something that
- 21:52Joseph had not yet fully revealed. They discovered
- 21:56that faith doesn't simply keep believing. Faith
- 21:59begins to sing. Faith begins to worship. Faith
- 22:03begins to write. David sang in the cave. Daniel
- 22:07prayed in exile. Paul wrote from prison. None
- 22:11of them knew that what they were doing in those
- 22:14dark moments would one day strengthen generations
- 22:18they would never meet. Think about that for a
- 22:21moment. David thought he was writing songs to
- 22:25God. God was preparing the worship of his people
- 22:28for thousands of years. Daniel thought he was
- 22:32simply remaining faithful in a foreign land.
- 22:36God was revealing his kingdom to generations
- 22:39yet unborn. Paul thought he was encouraging a
- 22:43few churches from a prison cell. God was building
- 22:47the theological foundation of his church. None
- 22:51of them realized that while they were simply
- 22:54trying to remain faithful, God was creating a
- 22:58legacy. And maybe, That's one of the greatest
- 23:01lessons of faith. Faith is not only believing
- 23:05that God will fulfill his promise. Faith is continuing
- 23:09to worship, to pray, to write, to obey, even
- 23:14when you have no idea how far your obedience
- 23:17will reach. Perhaps the greatest works God accomplishes
- 23:23through our lives are the ones we will never
- 23:25fully understand while we are living them. And
- 23:29that is exactly where our next conversation begins.
- 23:34Because if faith continues walking, even without
- 23:38explanations, what happens when God turns your
- 23:41cave, your exile, or your prison into a testimony
- 23:47that will outlive you? I cannot wait to explore
- 23:50that with you. Until next time, keep trusting,
- 23:55keep dwelling, keep obeying. Because the author
- 24:00is still writing.
