- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way, hey?
- 0:27Everybody, good morning. Question of the day is how do
- 0:31you create peace in your life? Yesterday I was listening to
- 0:36Shaolin Monk talk about he was during an interview and it was
- 0:41part of the interview and the subject was all about growing
- 0:45and what it takes for determination and everything
- 0:47else because the Shaolins are very determined people, the way
- 0:52they live their lives, the discipline.
- 0:54And the interview was about discipline.
- 0:56However, the the brilliant interviewer said, do you look to
- 1:01be happy? Do you look to create happiness
- 1:03in your life? And the monk stopped and he
- 1:06paused and you could see that he was actually contemplating the
- 1:11question. It was not off the cuff.
- 1:13And the interviewer said, I'm sorry, was I was that like not a
- 1:17question I should have asked. And he said, no, I'm, I'm
- 1:21contemplating happiness in, in this, in the way you questioned
- 1:25it. And he said, I truly believe,
- 1:29and I'm obviously paraphrasing because I didn't memorize it,
- 1:31but he said, I truly believe that, you know, happiness, just
- 1:36like all the other emotions, has a duality.
- 1:40And so whenever you're happy, you're going to experience
- 1:43sadness. Whenever you're excited, you're
- 1:46going to experience calm. Everything has a duality.
- 1:50Now, you've heard me say this a billion times, that it's the
- 1:53universe is filled with duality, just like the seasons out here
- 1:57on the farm as we get ready to go into the spring season, it's
- 2:00so amazing because life is about to jump up again and be present
- 2:05and it's coming out of that darkness of nothing.
- 2:08So the duality is constantly in my face and even in my own mind,
- 2:14you know, moments of anxiety, moments of calm.
- 2:16But back to what he said. So the monk said, well, what do
- 2:19you strive for then? If most of us strive for
- 2:22happiness and, and you are saying it's, it's challenging
- 2:26because there's always a duality, What do you do?
- 2:29And he paused again. And he said, I look for peace.
- 2:35And while peace has the chaos as, as something on the other
- 2:40side, there's a, there's a, a spot in between and it's in
- 2:45between the thoughts. And that's the spot I'm looking
- 2:48for the spot in between the thoughts.
- 2:51Now I refer to that as being neutral.
- 2:54Wayne Dyer used to talk about find the spot between the
- 2:57thoughts and I. And, and that to me is the
- 3:01nothingness. That's the quiet mind, But
- 3:04that's extremely, extremely hard to attain for me.
- 3:09And the only place that though that is quiet is when my hands
- 3:13are in the dirt, busy, creating art, something.
- 3:16My hands have to be busy and they have to be loving what
- 3:19they're doing. And then there's what I consider
- 3:22neutral. I'm, there's nothingness.
- 3:25It's just neutral. And so the monk considers that
- 3:29peace. It's very amusing to me how we
- 3:33as human beings have so many different ways to describe
- 3:37things. And I, I think it's really
- 3:40important to remember this because even as someone is
- 3:43trained, as this person is, he's still struggling to answer the
- 3:48question about happiness. And I thought that that was so
- 3:53fascinating and so telling because if this man who has is
- 3:5735 generations into Shaolin Monk and has been trained since he
- 4:02was four years old and has discipline like nobody else and,
- 4:07and has pushed himself. And he thinks and pauses about
- 4:11the question, imagine what the rest of us have to think because
- 4:16we live in the chaos. We live in the constant chaos.
- 4:19So that thought between the thought when you're laying there
- 4:23and you're just not thinking about anything or you're doing
- 4:26something like me when I'm, I'm putting my hands in the dirt and
- 4:29I'm Yesterday I was repotting a plant and I realized for a
- 4:35fraction of a second it flew into my head that I wasn't
- 4:38thinking. And I was like, wow, that was
- 4:41great. Like I was just present.
- 4:43I was looking at what I was doing.
- 4:45I was fully engaged in it and my brain was not doing anything
- 4:51else. It wasn't thinking about what I
- 4:52was going to talk to you about. It wasn't thinking of anything.
- 4:57And I'm, I'm like, wow. And then I went, I, I stopped
- 5:00myself and I said, no, no, I want to go back to the plant.
- 5:02And I went back to the plant, but I lost the moment the second
- 5:05I saw it. And that happens a lot because
- 5:08it pulls us from where we are into that thought process, that
- 5:12swirling, whirling dervish of a brain again.
- 5:15So today, look for those spots where it's quiet, look for the
- 5:20spots of neutrality. Or if your word is peace like
- 5:24the monk's word is, look for the peace, look for the happiness,
- 5:27look for the neutral, whatever your word is.
- 5:30But just remember the the world, the universe is filled with
- 5:33duality. So it's always going to be a
- 5:34challenge, but it's a fun challenge.
- 5:37All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I
- 5:40will see you tomorrow. Bye.
