- 0:00Speaker 1: And sorry for all of you trying to get from
- 0:02Speaker 1: those of you listening in the Seattle metropolitan area. Huge.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Its sound if you're trying to get from Everett to
- 0:08Speaker 1: Seattle today, or even to get from the University district
- 0:10Speaker 1: to Seattle, which is like two miles an a half
- 0:14Speaker 1: across a bridge m post Sible. As I was once
- 0:17Speaker 1: told in Madrid, in Pissible, there was a motorcycle crash
- 0:21Speaker 1: on I five south. I mean, I think it was
- 0:24Speaker 1: a don or just before dawn. It was an hour.
- 0:28Speaker 1: I was in my car in Roosevelt at nine fifteen
- 0:32Speaker 1: or nine ten, and I pulled up here at ten
- 0:35Speaker 1: oh one. It was I had to go through all
- 0:38Speaker 1: kinds of side streets up and over Greenwood and Finny
- 0:45Speaker 1: Ridge and again up coming down northwest fifteenth and it's
- 0:48Speaker 1: finally starting to dissipate, apparently. And then there's another accident
- 0:51Speaker 1: on I five just north of north Gate, and oh man,
- 0:56Speaker 1: when one bridge shuts down or one freeway shuts down here,
- 0:59Speaker 1: the I'm going to effect north to south is incredible.
- 1:02Speaker 1: And that was this morning in Seattle. So if you're
- 1:04Speaker 1: still in that mess trying to get to work, thanks
- 1:07Speaker 1: for joining us, because you had no choice to still
- 1:09Speaker 1: be in your car. But hopefully you get there soon,
- 1:12Speaker 1: be safe. It's been an ugly, ugly morning on the roads.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Maybe this will bit make you feel better. A chance
- 1:17Speaker 1: to win one thousand dollars in our Grand Slam cash giveaway.
- 1:20Speaker 1: We have a nationwide keyword every hour, every weekday from
- 1:22Speaker 1: six am six pm. The keyword this hour's family, famil
- 1:28Speaker 1: y family and that now at nine three three kjer
- 1:31Speaker 1: dot com for your chance. When one thousand dollars, I'll
- 1:32Speaker 1: have another word next hour. Chris mentioned how nice the
- 1:36Speaker 1: weather is getting and it's seventy some degrees today in Seattle.
- 1:39Speaker 1: The sun's out. I can see across across Elliott Bay
- 1:42Speaker 1: here to the Olympic Mountains, ferries going by it. Just picture.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Once you get to this time of year, it's incredible
- 1:48Speaker 1: and it's the payback for a living from October to February.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Markly, you have to look at the bride side up
- 1:54Speaker 2: literally and figuratively, because we go through hell. Yes, people
- 1:58Speaker 2: don't want to even be in this area. Yeah yes, but.
- 2:00Speaker 1: We have I think in America.
- 2:02Speaker 2: The best view of just blue sky skyline mount Rainier.
- 2:08Speaker 2: You find a hike, you go to it like it's
- 2:11Speaker 2: you don't find that everywhere. No, when it's nice, it's
- 2:14Speaker 2: it's the best place in the United States, I would argue.
- 2:17Speaker 1: I mean, I'm sure you.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Could probably be like, oh, you go to Miami and
- 2:19Speaker 2: go to the Bay Sure, whatever. I agree, you can
- 2:22Speaker 2: go a lot of places and nothing really tops. Like
- 2:25Speaker 2: he's driving on the freeway. Sometimes you're like, Wow, this
- 2:27Speaker 2: is where I get to live when there's no traffic.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Yeah, well, there's a reason why everyone lives here where
- 2:33Speaker 1: a lot of people live here. But this is the
- 2:36Speaker 1: time of year that it is worth living here, so beautiful.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Saturday is the fortieth Winding Air Cup. We've talked about
- 2:43Speaker 1: this yesterday. I was at the University of Washington yesterday
- 2:45Speaker 1: after my show and I was talking with the Big
- 2:47Speaker 1: ten Network. They're doing a documentary on the history of
- 2:50Speaker 1: the Window air Cup. I wrote a book on the
- 2:52Speaker 1: history of the Windom Air Cup, and it's thirtieth anniversary
- 2:54Speaker 1: ten years ago. And this weekend. I mean, some days
- 2:58Speaker 1: it's rainy and cold. Some winding reor cups are better
- 3:01Speaker 1: than others as weatherwise, it's supposed to be fantastic, seventy
- 3:04Speaker 1: some degrees. It's free. People if you've never been. The
- 3:08Speaker 1: Montlake Cut is unlike any rowing venue in the world.
- 3:13Speaker 1: And I've talked to rowers worldwide for my book, from Russia,
- 3:18Speaker 1: from Ukraine, from China, from Australia, from New Zealand, from
- 3:23Speaker 1: Great Britain, and they cannot believe the setting that the
- 3:25Speaker 1: University of Washington has for its rowing program. The Montlake
- 3:29Speaker 1: Cut has two grass banks on each side underneath the
- 3:31Speaker 1: Montlake Bridge, the drawbridge, and they close the drawbridge for
- 3:35Speaker 1: the Montlake Cut. They put a log boom that has
- 3:38Speaker 1: volunteers provide the logs, and then a tugboat Chris at
- 3:43Speaker 1: least this is when I wrote the book, it was
- 3:44Speaker 1: doing this. A tugboat tugs it up from like Shelton
- 3:48Speaker 1: or somewhere on the Olympic Peninsula and drops logs out
- 3:51Speaker 1: in Union Bay so that the boats can tie up
- 3:53Speaker 1: out there. That's the start of the course, creating a
- 3:56Speaker 1: cordon of boats along the log boom out in the
- 3:58Speaker 1: middle of Union Bay, going from east to west toward
- 4:02Speaker 1: Husky Stadium. And then once you get in the cut,
- 4:05Speaker 1: the rowers will tell you the sound is unbelievable. They've
- 4:08Speaker 1: never rowed. I mean, we're talking about Olympic champion rowers
- 4:10Speaker 1: have come here to row in the Windamere Cup. World
- 4:12Speaker 1: champions have said they've never heard the noise inside the cut.
- 4:16Speaker 1: How unique the geography of that cut narrow, It's like
- 4:19Speaker 1: NASCAR bumper boat racing. Once you get into the cut
- 4:23Speaker 1: and then the fans are so close to you, you
- 4:25Speaker 1: can hear the cox and talking commands to the boats,
- 4:28Speaker 1: you can hear the grunting. It's an incredible You can
- 4:31Speaker 1: go on either north or south shore of the Montley
- 4:34Speaker 1: Cut and watch the race for free. And the weather
- 4:37Speaker 1: it's so spectacular. This weekend we all should be going.
- 4:41Speaker 1: It's an amazing event if you've ever gone. It's also
- 4:43Speaker 1: the first day of the Northwest boating season officially first
- 4:45Speaker 1: Saturday May, and the Seattle Yacht Club has partnered with
- 4:48Speaker 1: the University of Washington since nineteen seventy to run a
- 4:51Speaker 1: boat parade and kick off the season. So when all
- 4:55Speaker 1: the races are over, the final races, the women's and
- 4:58Speaker 1: men's varsity eight, when and they are done with the
- 5:00Speaker 1: Windimere Cup, all the boats who have competed, the youth,
- 5:04Speaker 1: the seniors, the high schoolers, the other colleges, they all
- 5:09Speaker 1: mass at the finish line, beyond the finish line and
- 5:12Speaker 1: just sit there and watch the rest of the races.
- 5:14Speaker 1: And then when they're done, they lead the boat parade
- 5:18Speaker 1: back through west to east through the cut, and then
- 5:22Speaker 1: yachts and decorated boats from the Seattle Yacht Club and
- 5:24Speaker 1: anybody else who wants to join in, they go back
- 5:28Speaker 1: through the cut for a parade of boats. It's just
- 5:31Speaker 1: such a cool tableau. I mentioned it yesterday. Someone on
- 5:34Speaker 1: the text line said, you don't hear tableau in this
- 5:36Speaker 1: station very much. I'm going to use that word again.
- 5:38Speaker 1: It's fantastic. And I know I'm biased. I wrote a
- 5:41Speaker 1: book about it. But if you have never gone and
- 5:43Speaker 1: you have a chance, it's ten to fifteen. The races
- 5:45Speaker 1: start on Saturday morning. The final races will be around noon,
- 5:50Speaker 1: the championship races. The Great Britain Men's and women's Olympic
- 5:53Speaker 1: national team will be there, the national boats. I saw
- 5:57Speaker 1: them yesterday walking around the Conner Bear Shell House. It's
- 6:00Speaker 1: just a fantastic event and the celebration of spring and
- 6:03Speaker 1: a celebration of the water boating culture here in the
- 6:06Speaker 1: Pacific Northwest. So if you've never gone, it is a
- 6:09Speaker 1: slice of the Pacific Northwest like no other. And of course,
- 6:12Speaker 1: if you don't know the history of the University of
- 6:13Speaker 1: Washington rowing team boys in the boat nineteen thirty six
- 6:16Speaker 1: Berlin Olympics beating Hitler's guys winning the gold medal, that
- 6:20Speaker 1: was the u University of Washington's boat. It became the
- 6:24Speaker 1: United States boat as a national champion. You know the
- 6:26Speaker 1: story if you've read the book or watched a movie.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Books way better than movie, by the way, as was
- 6:31Speaker 1: often the case. And they take that from hiring Connor Bear,
- 6:36Speaker 1: Dick Erickson to Bob Burnst and Michael Callahan, and they
- 6:40Speaker 1: are national champions on the women's and the men's side
- 6:43Speaker 1: for decades, world class rowers that come from all over
- 6:46Speaker 1: the world and country to come to the University of Washington.
- 6:49Speaker 1: And one other thing, Chris, they are some of the
- 6:52Speaker 1: best students on the UDUB campus. They're taking chemical engineering, physics,
- 6:58Speaker 1: they are taking lawnmowing and national championships. Here's another thing
- 7:02Speaker 1: I mentioned a Big ten network yesterday, today's college sports landscape.
- 7:06Speaker 1: Of course, we know we've understand those of you follow
- 7:08Speaker 1: sports a revenue share and an NILP. So there's two
- 7:10Speaker 1: pots that players for mainly football and basketball get paid.
- 7:15Speaker 1: Most major colleges and the Big Ten included pay football
- 7:19Speaker 1: and basketball. That's where all the revenue share money goes,
- 7:21Speaker 1: right what The University of Washington rowing gets some of
- 7:24Speaker 1: that revenue share. They're one of the only major college
- 7:28Speaker 1: programs in the country funded by the revenue share from
- 7:31Speaker 1: the University of Washing. At least it was a couple
- 7:32Speaker 1: of years ago. I know if that's changed, and I
- 7:35Speaker 1: believe softball was the same thing and volleyball which is
- 7:38Speaker 1: a national national championship caliber sport. But I know University
- 7:44Speaker 1: Wisconsin brags about its boat house on the campus like
- 7:47Speaker 1: Washington's and its boat rowing program. I don't know how
- 7:51Speaker 1: many dollars is the University of Washington Athletic department. University
- 7:53Speaker 1: of Wisconsin Athletic Department is giving to its rowing program
- 7:56Speaker 1: out of revenue share. Not to mention the donor base
- 8:00Speaker 1: an alumni base from here in Seattle of former rowers
- 8:03Speaker 1: who have made it big because again they didn't take lawnmowing.
- 8:05Speaker 1: They majored and things are lucrative careers because of how
- 8:09Speaker 1: smart they are, and they give back and put back
- 8:12Speaker 1: into the program and it keeps the university of Washington's
- 8:15Speaker 1: rowing program, where it is one of the best in
- 8:18Speaker 1: the world. Anyway, all that is to say, go read
- 8:22Speaker 1: my book, The Windimere Cup. Winnimere had me read write
- 8:25Speaker 1: ten years ago. It used to be at third place
- 8:27Speaker 1: books in the universe. It's an actual book. It wasn't
- 8:30Speaker 1: self published on Amazon or it's not just online. It's
- 8:33Speaker 1: an actual book with a cover. It's unbelievable pictures by
- 8:37Speaker 1: Red Box Pictures and Scott Ecklin and the guys over
- 8:40Speaker 1: at the University of Washington, the guys and gals. So anyway,
- 8:44Speaker 1: it is a precise of the Pacific Northwest. If you're
- 8:46Speaker 1: into sports culture what we are all about, go to
- 8:49Speaker 1: the Windermere Cut because it is Colban's two thousand meters
- 8:53Speaker 1: from Union Bay through the very unique Montley Cut. The
- 8:58Speaker 1: Seahawks camp that starts this week in the Rookie Mini Camp,
- 9:02Speaker 1: I'm going to talk to you next segment about the
- 9:06Speaker 1: first phase for the veterans of a voluntary offseason workout.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Mike McDonald told those guys, blow them off, enjoyed the
- 9:13Speaker 1: Super Bowl. We know we had a late season and
- 9:15Speaker 1: ran long. Don't worry about coming. Well, they came and
- 9:19Speaker 1: they are there this week, I'm gonna tell you who's
- 9:20Speaker 1: there in renting this week. We'll talk about that eleven o'clock.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Far On Lolgy. He's a good friend of mine. TSN Vancouver.
- 9:27Speaker 1: A lot going on up north of Blaine. Are the
- 9:31Speaker 1: white Caps leaving and would be MLS's first franchise move
- 9:36Speaker 1: in a long, long time. There's stadium issues up there.
- 9:39Speaker 1: The Canucks are a mess, and we talk a lot
- 9:42Speaker 1: here about the Kracking and not making the playoffs for
- 9:45Speaker 1: the last five years. I'm going to talk to Varhunt
- 9:48Speaker 1: about the Canucks and how it I mean, I think
- 9:50Speaker 1: the Kracking may be in better shape than Vancouver, even
- 9:52Speaker 1: though Vancouver has been to the one A playoff series
- 9:55Speaker 1: more recently than in Seattle. Anyway, he has. He did
- 10:01Speaker 1: the CFL draft for TSN in Toronto this week. There
- 10:05Speaker 1: was an Eastern Washington player drafted in that. He's really
- 10:08Speaker 1: into the NFL and college football. He's covered the National
- 10:11Speaker 1: Championship and Big Bowl games and playoffs. Farhearn Lagy. He'll
- 10:15Speaker 1: join us at eleven o'clock. We're also going to talk
- 10:19Speaker 1: about the Brandon Soresby's story, the transfer quarterback to Texas Tech,
- 10:25Speaker 1: who has a diagnosed gambling addiction and is then realhabilitation
- 10:29Speaker 1: for it. I'm going to talk to you about how
- 10:32Speaker 1: journalism feeds that addiction, and we as a journalism profession
- 10:36Speaker 1: are as culpable as anybody, and it's because of money.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Of course, we'll talk about that as well. Four nine
- 10:41Speaker 1: four to five one on the Tacomadadge tech line. First
- 10:45Speaker 1: of all, anyone out there, have you been to the
- 10:48Speaker 1: Winner Mare Cup and can you share your experiences with it?
- 10:50Speaker 1: If you don't know what I'm talking about, then say
- 10:53Speaker 1: that too and get on out there. We mentioned this
- 10:56Speaker 1: yesterday the Seahawk Chris was most excited with. I think
- 10:59Speaker 1: you said Neil right, third round pick and Bo, but
- 11:02Speaker 1: I favored more of the dB by yes, yeah, and
- 11:06Speaker 1: Bo Stevens, I'm sorry. The fifth round pick who was
- 11:08Speaker 1: on yesterday with Ian Furness and if four wanted to
- 11:13Speaker 1: come out of checks line and tell us who you
- 11:15Speaker 1: are most excited with. Jedarion Price, the first round pick
- 11:18Speaker 1: Bud Clark, who I think has a chance to start
- 11:20Speaker 1: at safety replacing the part of Kobe Bryant. The second
- 11:23Speaker 1: round pick Julian Neil from Arkansas to cornerback, who is
- 11:25Speaker 1: so brashing with Bravado talking to us right after he
- 11:28Speaker 1: got drafted. Bo Stevens, an All American guard they didn't
- 11:31Speaker 1: think was going to be in round five, which is
- 11:33Speaker 1: why they traded a fourth round pick next year to
- 11:35Speaker 1: get back into the fifth round to draft him. Emmanuel Henderson,
- 11:38Speaker 1: a wide receiver who the Seahawks scouts timed at twenty
- 11:42Speaker 1: three miles an hour on their GPS tracking that colleges used.
- 11:46Speaker 1: Now just like the pros, He's going to be a
- 11:49Speaker 1: gunner supreme. He will replace Drek Young. There was a
- 11:51Speaker 1: job waiting for him on special teams. A sixth round
- 11:53Speaker 1: pick who's probably going to be the gunner replacing Derek Young.
- 11:56Speaker 1: The outside guy who covers punts. Andre Fuller. We talk
- 11:59Speaker 1: to him yet yesterday, the cornerback from Toledo. He says,
- 12:02Speaker 1: I'm coming out here to do whatever they want me
- 12:04Speaker 1: to do. And he's played special teams. He has some
- 12:07Speaker 1: experience at safety, he told us. But he's a corner
- 12:09Speaker 1: and he likes man coverage, and he likes to press,
- 12:12Speaker 1: and he likes to do the things that Mike McDonald
- 12:13Speaker 1: likes to feature in his defense. Nose tackle Devin Eastern
- 12:16Speaker 1: is a true nose tackles three hundred foot fifty plus pounds,
- 12:19Speaker 1: and actually he's more like three twenty I'm sorry, three fifteen,
- 12:22Speaker 1: three twenty, but he's six'. Five he's From, minnesota he
- 12:26Speaker 1: was drafted in the seventh round and they need depth
- 12:28Speaker 1: on the defensive. Line And Michael dansby cornerback From, arizona
- 12:33Speaker 1: who was in the seventh, round chosen two hundred and fifty,
- 12:36Speaker 1: five the third to last pick of the. Draft which
- 12:38Speaker 1: one of those are you excited and think has the
- 12:41Speaker 1: chance to do the? Most any easy way is to
- 12:43Speaker 1: Say price because the job is waiting for him as
- 12:44Speaker 1: a lead back Replacing Kenneth. Walker of Course i'm. Next
- 12:49Speaker 1: mike McDonald told The vets to stay, home no need
- 12:51Speaker 1: to be at the first phase of. Offseason yet here
- 12:53Speaker 1: are some of The seahawks' biggest front liners right out
- 12:56Speaker 1: on the field in. Renting we'll pushing sleds and carrying.

- 17:38Speaker 1: be back as an assistant because she came From Kachella,
- 17:40Speaker 1: valley THE ahl top minor league club down In Palm
- 17:45Speaker 1: desert In. California but she will not be returning To
- 17:48Speaker 1: crack and The crack and just confirming that, Now so
- 17:52Speaker 1: thank you for. That chris out At Seaock, HEADQUARTERS. Da
- 17:55Speaker 1: i'm heading out there to see The jari And price
- 17:57Speaker 1: And i'm sure his family will be there and he's
- 18:01Speaker 1: going to be introduced as the first round pick on
- 18:04Speaker 1: his arrival To seahawks headquarters for the first day to
- 18:06Speaker 1: day because tomorrow begins rookie mini camp that'll be short
- 18:11Speaker 1: this weekend When jess rookies and some zero the one
- 18:14Speaker 1: year guys developmental players will also be. There The seahawks
- 18:21Speaker 1: concurrently this week started the first phase of the offseason workout.
- 18:26Speaker 1: Program this is a voluntary. Phase they do weight. Training
- 18:29Speaker 1: mostly they're in the weight room training. Room if they're
- 18:31Speaker 1: on the, field it's mostly doing exercise work and pushing
- 18:35Speaker 1: sleds and carrying deadlift weights across the. Field mike McDonald
- 18:42Speaker 1: looked at the calendar and he saw that this first
- 18:45Speaker 1: phase was to Begin april twenty eighth, ish and he
- 18:49Speaker 1: saw that The Seahawks Super bowl party and celebration lasted
- 18:53Speaker 1: well Into february To march. First so he told his,
- 18:57Speaker 1: veterans don't worry ABOUT i, mean it's voluntary, anyway so
- 19:01Speaker 1: by letter of the, law he can't force him to,
- 19:03Speaker 1: come but he, said don't worry about. It if we
- 19:05Speaker 1: have meetings that are something pertinent to your, position we'll
- 19:08Speaker 1: do it. Over you can do it over zoom from
- 19:10Speaker 1: home don't worry about. It on the field stuff and
- 19:12Speaker 1: the wait. TRY i trust, you, guys chill you guys
- 19:16Speaker 1: had a great time to. Celebrate don't worry about. It
- 19:18Speaker 1: come for the second phase In, may when we start
- 19:22Speaker 1: getting on the field and running skeleton plays in shorts
- 19:25Speaker 1: AND t. Shirts you can show up for. THAT i
- 19:28Speaker 1: don't need you for the first. Phase, well this mirror
- 19:32Speaker 1: is what happened last. Year what's going on this week at?
- 19:35Speaker 1: Renting last, year if you, recall In April May, june
- 19:40Speaker 1: The seahawks had one hundred percent, participation one hundred percent
- 19:44Speaker 1: in voluntary OTAs in mini, camps organized team activities practices
- 19:48Speaker 1: in mini camps In may And. June that's almost unheard. Of,
- 19:50Speaker 1: Chris we've talked about this a few. Times guys go
- 19:52Speaker 1: to family, weddings with their own weddings or, graduations or
- 19:58Speaker 1: just stay home or Stay Michael bennet used to stay
- 20:00Speaker 1: In hawaii with his. Girls Marshawn lynch would never show
- 20:03Speaker 1: up just because he didn't want to and he didn't have.
- 20:05Speaker 1: To by THE Nfl Collective Bardier, agreement it's. Voluntary there's
- 20:09Speaker 1: only one mandatory event in the offseason that you have
- 20:13Speaker 1: to attend or else you'll be subject to fines per
- 20:15Speaker 1: the league's Collective Bardneying. Agreement and that's the one veteran
- 20:19Speaker 1: mini camp that's In. June that's. It if a player
- 20:22Speaker 1: wanted to blow off the rest by letter of the,
- 20:24Speaker 1: law he Could and, now of course that's not going
- 20:26Speaker 1: to engender you with your teammates and your coaching. Staff
- 20:29Speaker 1: but you, can't or you could just miss a day
- 20:31Speaker 1: here and miss a day. There Russell wilson once missed
- 20:34Speaker 1: a day to go To Jimmy graham's wedding In florida
- 20:37Speaker 1: and they both missed a mini. Camp so what it
- 20:39Speaker 1: Was may, well last year The seahawks one hundred percent
- 20:44Speaker 1: participation with their veterans that were on the roster going
- 20:46Speaker 1: to play that, year one hundred. Percent And mike McDonald
- 20:50Speaker 1: pointed to that time and again during that phase in
- 20:53Speaker 1: the first in the, offseason during training camp In, July,
- 20:56Speaker 1: august during the early part of the season about how
- 20:59Speaker 1: that percent on participation In may And june is the
- 21:02Speaker 1: reason they Won Super. Bowl it forged the, culture the,
- 21:04Speaker 1: leadership the work, ethic the, brotherhood and it gave him
- 21:08Speaker 1: a head start on training camp that they didn't have
- 21:10Speaker 1: to go back to ground zero because they had done
- 21:13Speaker 1: some of the classroom and on the field skeleton work
- 21:15Speaker 1: In may And, june and they believe strongly that that
- 21:19Speaker 1: is the reason for the, culture the brotherhood of, thegetherness
- 21:22Speaker 1: and thus The Super bowl championship last. Year well guess
- 21:25Speaker 1: what they're doing it again out at renting this. Week
- 21:29Speaker 1: when McDonald told, him don't come blow it. Off you
- 21:31Speaker 1: don't need to be there to celebrate Your Super. Bowl Sam,
- 21:33Speaker 1: darnold the, Quarterback Cooper cup is out. There he looks
- 21:38Speaker 1: like a coach with his beard pushing. Sleds Julian love
- 21:42Speaker 1: is out. There Pro bowl Safety Devin, witherspoon the three
- 21:46Speaker 1: Time Pro bowl cornerback who'd could be kicking back home
- 21:49Speaker 1: At florida knowing he's about to get a thirty one
- 21:51Speaker 1: million dollar plus year contract to be the top cornerback
- 21:54Speaker 1: in the. League that's probably gonna happen Around july or
- 21:56Speaker 1: start a training. Camp he's. There Derek hall is in
- 21:58Speaker 1: the last year of his rookie, contract is one of
- 22:00Speaker 1: the lead edge. Rushers he's. There gray's able to stud
- 22:03Speaker 1: rookie left guard who has got that job for as
- 22:06Speaker 1: long as he wants to be In. Seattle he's, There Jalen,
- 22:09Speaker 1: sundell his buddy From North Dakota, state the starting. Center he's,
- 22:12Speaker 1: There Drew lockin And Jaln milro to make the three.
- 22:16Speaker 1: Call three quarterbacks present for. This that has a big
- 22:20Speaker 1: effect on the younger, guys the guys LIKE Aj derell
- 22:24Speaker 1: And George Hallani jacarti, right the guys that are trying,
- 22:30Speaker 1: O'Toole patrick, O'Connell guys that are trying to younger players
- 22:34Speaker 1: that are trying to break into the starting. Lineup when
- 22:36Speaker 1: they See Super bowl Champion Pro bowl veterans with one
- 22:40Speaker 1: hundred million dollar contracts there In, april there's a residual
- 22:46Speaker 1: follow me. Effect AND i am sure the next time
- 22:49Speaker 1: we talked To mike McDonald he's going to talk about.
- 22:51Speaker 1: This he said he was blown away the first Day
- 22:54Speaker 1: april twentieth when we talked to, him he said he
- 22:56Speaker 1: was quote blown away by how many people were. There
- 22:59Speaker 1: That devin Withers boon was there on the first Day
- 23:01Speaker 1: april twentieth of offseason workouts or off season training program that
- 23:06Speaker 1: they don't have to be. At usually would, say, so,
- 23:09Speaker 1: what It's, April but the point is this is a
- 23:11Speaker 1: parallel to how last year, started and we saw what
- 23:13Speaker 1: happened last, year and this is a product of the
- 23:17Speaker 1: culture That mike McDonald has. Done of all the great
- 23:19Speaker 1: Things mike McDonald has done in two seasons as the
- 23:22Speaker 1: first time head, coach the Former Baltimore ravens defensive, coreidator
- 23:26Speaker 1: has established a, culture not That pete Call Pete carroll's
- 23:30Speaker 1: culture was completely different and also obviously, successful the most
- 23:34Speaker 1: sustained success this franchise has ever had for his fifteen.
- 23:37Speaker 1: Years McDonald's is completely. Different but the culture that he
- 23:42Speaker 1: has set it is really unique in pro. Sports. It,
- 23:48Speaker 1: yeah money is, everything and money is what these guys play.
- 23:50Speaker 1: For they're bashing their heads and so they get. Paid
- 23:53Speaker 1: but there is a little bit more than some connection
- 23:57Speaker 1: off the field between these players that they think he
- 24:00Speaker 1: gives some advantage over The rams and the forty nine
- 24:02Speaker 1: ers and everybody else in THE. Nfc SO i would
- 24:05Speaker 1: not dismiss as meaningless the fact That Sam darnold And
- 24:08Speaker 1: Cooper cup And Julian love are out there pushing sleds
- 24:13Speaker 1: with a bunch of first, year second year developmental players In.
- 24:15Speaker 2: April this was what we went this last year was the.
- 24:20Speaker 2: Start now you're starting to see it be more, consistent
- 24:24Speaker 2: and the players believe you just won A Super.
- 24:26Speaker 1: Bowl how could.
- 24:26Speaker 2: You, yeah coach is gonna tell, You, yeah you don't
- 24:28Speaker 2: have to show up because you've earned. That but now
- 24:31Speaker 2: the identity is set in every player, that, yeah coach
- 24:33Speaker 2: tells us that we don't need, To but if you
- 24:36Speaker 2: want to get back to where we are and if,
- 24:38Speaker 2: not be even, better we're gonna have to do the
- 24:40Speaker 2: things that we probably don't want to, do which is
- 24:42Speaker 2: showing up in the middle of Mid april going Into.
- 24:45Speaker 2: May but that's just championship. Mentality and for a team
- 24:49Speaker 2: that has goals of not quote unquote, repeating but starting
- 24:53Speaker 2: over a new roster for the most, part not a new,
- 24:56Speaker 2: roster but new players coming, in a new offensive, coordinator
- 25:00Speaker 2: the challenge is. There, so, yeah showing up early with
- 25:04Speaker 2: your teammates working, out doing, drills that's going to play
- 25:08Speaker 2: dividend later on in the season when it matters the,
- 25:11Speaker 2: most maybe in A december game when things are. Tough
- 25:15Speaker 2: you guys have been through the. Fire you guys are
- 25:17Speaker 2: doing stuff In april building that that team. Chemistry mike
- 25:20Speaker 2: McDonald was the leader in, That SO i think when
- 25:23Speaker 2: it when it gets, tough these guys will look back
- 25:26Speaker 2: and be, like you know, what we've been through it.
- 25:27Speaker 2: All let's dig down deep and show this other team
- 25:31Speaker 2: that we're made of with the, physicality with how we,
- 25:32Speaker 2: communicate with how we carry ourselves on and off the.
- 25:35Speaker 2: Field SO i think it's a it's just the new
- 25:38Speaker 2: identity for this team and how they, Roll, like, yeah
- 25:41Speaker 2: sure you don't have to be, here BUT i wouldn't
- 25:44Speaker 2: be surprised of ninety nine percent or one hundred percent
- 25:46Speaker 2: of those guys show up yet, again even if it's
- 25:49Speaker 2: just maybe not, weightlifting maybe they're just. AROUND i think
- 25:52Speaker 2: that's important for this. Team So i'm looking forward to
- 25:55Speaker 2: seeing and hearing about, how, yeah it was another outstanding.
- 25:57Speaker 2: Performance guys just showed up and we got back to,
- 26:00Speaker 2: work and they're excited about it because that was the
- 26:02Speaker 2: thing that you talked about after winnings With Ernest jones
- 26:06Speaker 2: not being able to hang out with his teammates right
- 26:09Speaker 2: in the locker.
- 26:09Speaker 1: Room, well now they have the chance to do.
- 26:11Speaker 2: So And i'd be stunned if guys don't take that
- 26:14Speaker 2: opportunity to get back into the swing of things and
- 26:16Speaker 2: enjoy this journey From april all the way up until
- 26:19Speaker 2: their hope is to compete in Another.
- 26:22Speaker 1: Super bowl Through.
- 26:22Speaker 2: February SO i think it is a great opportunity for
- 26:25Speaker 2: these guys to do.
- 26:25Speaker 1: It yet, again they just like each. Other And chris
- 26:29Speaker 1: is alluding to or talking about WHAT i went in
- 26:32Speaker 1: the locker room after the Super bowl an hour after
- 26:34Speaker 1: the Super bowl's, over and they're smoking cigars and they're
- 26:37Speaker 1: drinking patron and they're spraying champagne and. Beer Yet Ernest
- 26:42Speaker 1: jones And Nick Eman warry said they were, sad AND
- 26:45Speaker 1: i was talking to. HIM i was, like what do
- 26:46Speaker 1: you mean you're. Sad they're wearing goggles that say Super
- 26:48Speaker 1: bowl Sixty. Champions they got the caps on and say
- 26:53Speaker 1: Super Bowl CHAMPS t, shirts the beer and the champagne,
- 26:57Speaker 1: flowing the music's, bumping And jones, Said i'm. Sad i'm
- 27:01Speaker 1: SAD i don't get to come back and go to
- 27:02Speaker 1: practice with these guys next. Week i'm sad that we
- 27:04Speaker 1: don't have meetings On. MONDAY i was, like what are
- 27:07Speaker 1: you talking. About you've been doing this Since. April It's.
- 27:09Speaker 1: February he, Said, Greg i've never been in a locker
- 27:12Speaker 1: room like. This we love each. Other we love being
- 27:14Speaker 1: around each. Other it's, like it's not work for us
- 27:17Speaker 1: because we really really like each. Other In, ingo you
- 27:20Speaker 1: don't see it as a. Job they get to play it, handsomely,
- 27:23Speaker 1: yes but, exactly.
- 27:24Speaker 2: They get to play a sport they love and they've
- 27:27Speaker 2: found love within one. Another and if you look at other,
- 27:30Speaker 2: organizations it's not like. That across the, league there's probably
- 27:34Speaker 2: a handful of teams that have.
- 27:36Speaker 1: That winning or.
- 27:38Speaker 2: Losing, granted it makes it a lot sweeter when you. Win,
- 27:41Speaker 2: sure no one wants to go to. Work you, know
- 27:43Speaker 2: you only have seven games won and there's two games
- 27:46Speaker 2: left in the. Season that's not, exciting, No but when
- 27:49Speaker 2: you win it all and you've been through the fire
- 27:51Speaker 2: and you've For Ernest jones is one THAT i think
- 27:54Speaker 2: is second Super Bowl, Now, yep it's not even about
- 27:57Speaker 2: that anymore because he's been through.
- 27:58Speaker 1: It he knows what it.
- 27:59Speaker 2: Takes but now he's, DAMN i really enjoy. THIS i
- 28:02Speaker 2: can only imagine when he's, Like i'm hanging it. Up
- 28:05Speaker 2: that's gonna be even more of a challenge because of
- 28:07Speaker 2: the relationship he's built With mike McDonald Aiden. Dirdey the
- 28:10Speaker 2: players that might be the toughest thing he'll have to. Do,
- 28:13Speaker 2: granted hope he never hears, this because he's gonna be,
- 28:15Speaker 2: like hey, man why why are you even bringing that.
- 28:17Speaker 1: Up, Yeah i'm in my prime right now doing my.
- 28:20Speaker 2: Thing you talk about, retirement But i'm just looking at
- 28:22Speaker 2: a guy that's very, emotional whereas his hard on the,
- 28:25Speaker 2: sleeve like that's gonna be tough for him to be,
- 28:27Speaker 2: Like i've gave him my, all but you know that's,
- 28:30Speaker 2: it and that he's gonna touch on all those things
- 28:32Speaker 2: that you alluded. To working out with his, teammates being
- 28:36Speaker 2: in that locker, room going into the film, session studying,
- 28:39Speaker 2: tape all that means a lot to these, guys and
- 28:42Speaker 2: they love. It if you don't like your, teammates well
- 28:44Speaker 2: damn you just you're not looking forward to going to.
- 28:46Speaker 2: Work you might be looking forward To sunday more than they.
- 28:48Speaker 2: Get you get to play the game and then you're.
- 28:50Speaker 1: Done i've been in locker, rooms professional locker rooms for
- 28:53Speaker 1: twenty six. YEARS i started doing this the end of
- 28:55Speaker 1: nineteen ninety, nine started two thousand as a baseball beat
- 28:58Speaker 1: writer in now THE. NFL i have never seen a
- 29:01Speaker 1: locker room like, this And chris's. Point of, course it's
- 29:04Speaker 1: good when they're. Winning but the point of all this
- 29:06Speaker 1: is it started back In april Last, april before they had,
- 29:09Speaker 1: games and it's starting again now and it's a little
- 29:12Speaker 1: easier now because it just won The Super. Bowl but
- 29:15Speaker 1: it wasn't that they were close last year because they.
- 29:18Speaker 1: Won it's that they won because they were. Close and
- 29:22Speaker 1: that's the difference That mike McDonald has brought to The
- 29:24Speaker 1: seahawks THAT i have not seen in any other locker
- 29:27Speaker 1: Room i've been in twenty six years in sports. Journalism
- 29:30Speaker 1: it is, different and that is to. Them you talk to,
- 29:36Speaker 1: him that's the reason they won The Super, bowl and
- 29:38Speaker 1: we're already seeing signs of it repeating itself. Now Ernest
- 29:41Speaker 1: jones said to, me we will never have a locker
- 29:43Speaker 1: room like this again that night In february eighth And Santa.
- 29:46Speaker 1: Clara he, said we will never be able to duplicate
- 29:48Speaker 1: this because it will never be all the same. Dudes and,
- 29:50Speaker 1: already of Course Kenneth walker left And Kobe bryant, left
- 29:53Speaker 1: and Riqu woollen left and Boy mafe, left so it
- 29:57Speaker 1: will not be the exact. Team so they will not
- 29:59Speaker 1: have the exact. Culture their, job starting with free, agency
- 30:04Speaker 1: continuing through last weekend's, draft continuing on in this process
- 30:07Speaker 1: of acquiring. Player their Job mike McDonald And John schneider
- 30:11Speaker 1: is to duplicate this as close as they can with
- 30:13Speaker 1: the players they're bringing. In and that's a monumental. Challenge
- 30:17Speaker 1: but McDonald's counting On Leonard williams And Ernest jones And
- 30:20Speaker 1: nicky Mun worry And Gray's abel And Jackson smith And
- 30:24Speaker 1: Jigbin Sam. Darnold the leaders of that, Team DeMarcus Lawrence
- 30:27Speaker 1: julian love to set such a stern culture that you
- 30:31Speaker 1: either are way or the. Highway and if they are
- 30:35Speaker 1: merging in right, away you're going to see some. Cuts
- 30:37Speaker 1: and it would not surprise. ME i don't know any
- 30:41Speaker 1: of these rookies From adam as far as football players
- 30:44Speaker 1: have've never watched them practice, yet but it would not
- 30:47Speaker 1: surprise me that if a rookie does not buy into this,
- 30:49Speaker 1: culture is not, competitive he comes in in awe that he's.
- 30:53Speaker 1: Cut it'll probably take until training camp to figure that.
- 30:56Speaker 1: Out they cut a draft picked last, Year David. Martinez
- 31:00Speaker 1: if you see a rookie draft pick get, cut that
- 31:04Speaker 1: will be why because they didn't fit the, culture the,
- 31:07Speaker 1: Competitiveness mike McDonald's brotherhood and togetherness that they've had four,
- 31:11Speaker 1: nine four or five one on The Tacoma Dodge Tech.
- 31:14Speaker 1: Line write in anything you want about The. Seahawks you're
- 31:17Speaker 1: input a couple of Great Winnimmer cup, stories a COUPLE
- 31:20Speaker 1: i didn't even, know AND i wrote a book on.
- 31:22Speaker 1: It we're gonna read those back at eleven Thirty. Up,
- 31:24Speaker 1: next Crazy, story crazy or is it? Crazy brandon Soars
- 31:29Speaker 1: we transferred To Texas tech is, gambling addiction and how
- 31:34Speaker 1: journalism feeds. It that's next on ninety three point THREE.
- 31:36Speaker 1: Kjrfm welcome At Greg, Mel CHRISTOPHER k with you on

- 31:57Speaker 1: Bel CHRISTOPHER k with you ten am the noon every.
- 31:59Speaker 1: Weekday also are around. Sports we just mentioned at the
- 32:04Speaker 1: top of the. Show Jessica campbell will no longer be
- 32:08Speaker 1: an assistant coach for Your Seattle. Kraken she and the
- 32:11Speaker 1: team announcing today that she's going to go pursue other
- 32:13Speaker 1: opportunities in THE. Nhl she's the first female bench coach
- 32:16Speaker 1: full time assistant bench coach in THE, nhl and she
- 32:21Speaker 1: will not be back When Lane lambert returns for his
- 32:23Speaker 1: second season with The krack and The crack and just
- 32:25Speaker 1: confirm that within the. Hour Another campbell is in the
- 32:29Speaker 1: news In. Baltimore Kalais, campbell the sixth Time Pro bowl defensive,
- 32:32Speaker 1: lineman is going to sign back with The Baltimore. Ravens
- 32:35Speaker 1: ESPN's reporting he turns forty years Old chris before the season.
- 32:41Speaker 1: Opener this will be his NINETEENTH nfl. Season he played
- 32:44Speaker 1: three years With baltimore twenty to twenty. Two he's got
- 32:49Speaker 1: A Pro bowl when he was in that span with The.
- 32:52Speaker 1: Ravens ravens are doing the same thing The seahawks. Are
- 32:54Speaker 1: they're waiting until after the compic formula doesn't apply anymore
- 32:57Speaker 1: to apply veterans because they have four compics they're expecting next.
- 33:00Speaker 1: Year same with The. Seahawks and now anybody as A
- 33:04Speaker 1: monday that you sign as a veteran does not count
- 33:06Speaker 1: toward that camp pick. Formula so you wait until now
- 33:10Speaker 1: and you still keep your comp picks for next. Year
- 33:13Speaker 1: that is a, factor not maybe an overriding, one but
- 33:15Speaker 1: it is a, factor and that's part of the reason
- 33:18Speaker 1: That Kalais campbell is going to sign. Now re signed
- 33:20Speaker 1: with The Baltimore ravens for his age forty. Season in college,
- 33:24Speaker 1: football we had the case of big time college Quarterback Brandon.
- 33:31Speaker 1: Soarsby Brandon soorz excuse, Me Brandon soorsby was. Transferred it
- 33:36Speaker 1: was the biggest transfer in the portal this year at,
- 33:40Speaker 1: quarterback and he Chose Texas. Tech Texas tech has been
- 33:43Speaker 1: swimming in money the last couple of, years nil money
- 33:46Speaker 1: and spending on. It So soorsby transfers To Texas, tech
- 33:51Speaker 1: And Texas tech has automatically assumed to be a contender
- 33:54Speaker 1: for the national championship back in the college football playoff
