- 1:04Tom Jackobs: Andrew, welcome to the show.
- 1:06Andrew Grinbaum: Thanks a lot.
- 1:07Andrew Grinbaum: That was great.
- 1:07Andrew Grinbaum: Great intro.
- 1:09Tom Jackobs: Well, thanks.
- 1:09Tom Jackobs: So I'm, I'm really excited to dive into your background and what's gotten you to the point of being heart-led'cause you do have a really interesting background and a lot of different things that you're working on.
- 1:20Tom Jackobs: But first, of course, I always like to ask people, what's your definition of a heart-led business?
- 1:26Andrew Grinbaum: So that's a great question, and the answer to that is gonna be a little bit long, but I hope it'll make sense.
- 1:32Andrew Grinbaum: As I mentioned to you, I've been studying Kabbalah for over 30 years, and I use it with my my companies and my clients' companies.
- 1:40Andrew Grinbaum: And there is a concept in the Kabbalah called a three column system.
- 1:44Andrew Grinbaum: I use that with all my clients, use it with myself, use it to build my businesses.
- 1:49Andrew Grinbaum: And that's understanding that there's three forces at work.
- 1:53Andrew Grinbaum: We have, we see it in circuitry today that's how we can talk about it.
- 1:56Andrew Grinbaum: There's three forces at work.
- 1:58Andrew Grinbaum: One of'em is called the right column, which is the sharing part of you.
- 2:03Andrew Grinbaum: It's what you naturally are really good at.
- 2:05Andrew Grinbaum: That's the right column.
- 2:06Andrew Grinbaum: What you naturally are good at, you're good at public speaking, right?
- 2:09Andrew Grinbaum: That's your right column.
- 2:10Andrew Grinbaum: You can naturally share with people.
- 2:12Andrew Grinbaum: Connect with people.
- 2:13Andrew Grinbaum: That's great.
- 2:14Andrew Grinbaum: There's also the left column, which is what you wanna receive.
- 2:17Andrew Grinbaum: That's a really important part of any circuit.
- 2:20Andrew Grinbaum: And that's what we want.
- 2:21Andrew Grinbaum: And we should be a little bit selfish, right?
- 2:23Andrew Grinbaum: We should know what we want, right?
- 2:25Andrew Grinbaum: How can you get there if you don't know what you want?
- 2:28Andrew Grinbaum: So that's really an important part of it.
- 2:30Andrew Grinbaum: But the third part is called the central column or the third column.
- 2:34Andrew Grinbaum: It's what you need to restrict to reveal everything you want in life.
- 2:40Andrew Grinbaum: And that comes in by connecting to your heart primarily cause your heart knows, or as I'll let we call it in Kabbalah, the soul is the seed of the heart.
- 2:49Andrew Grinbaum: So it's a very quiet voice.
- 2:51Andrew Grinbaum: It's here, that little voice.
- 2:54Andrew Grinbaum: When you calm down and when you listen to your heart, which is really your soul, you know exactly what to do, and most of our problems come.
- 3:01Andrew Grinbaum: I'm sure you'll agree.
- 3:02Andrew Grinbaum: Most of our problems come from a place of knowing what we need to do, and we don't do it.
- 3:07Andrew Grinbaum: Or not doing the thing that little voice inside us, our soul is telling us to do.
- 3:12Andrew Grinbaum: And so that's where I try to steer my clients is to these two parts.
- 3:16Andrew Grinbaum: A lot of people understand, right?
- 3:18Andrew Grinbaum: They learn through coaching, through personal development, professional development, what they're really good at, right?
- 3:23Andrew Grinbaum: And they oftentimes start businesses around what they're great at.
- 3:27Andrew Grinbaum: The second part is actually pretty hard.
- 3:29Andrew Grinbaum: It becomes harder for heart-led people because oh, I don't, I just wanna share.
- 3:33Andrew Grinbaum: I don't wanna be selfish.
- 3:35Andrew Grinbaum: No, you have to be selfish.
- 3:36Andrew Grinbaum: You have to know what you want exactly.
- 3:38Andrew Grinbaum: Do you wanna make$10 million next year or 5 million?
- 3:41Andrew Grinbaum: You know, how many people aren't working for you?
- 3:43Andrew Grinbaum: What sort of business you wanna create?
- 3:44Andrew Grinbaum: That's the kind of like the nuts and bolts of business coaching, let's say.
- 3:48Andrew Grinbaum: Right?
- 3:49Andrew Grinbaum: Helping figure that out.
- 3:51Andrew Grinbaum: But the central column, the heart part is actually a very practical part, and I try to lead clients into the first two parts they get.
- 3:59Andrew Grinbaum: The third part is sometimes very difficult for people because it, it takes calming down, it takes listening to your soul or your heart, and that's what I think a heart-led business is.
- 4:10Andrew Grinbaum: I hope I'm answering your question.
- 4:12Andrew Grinbaum: It's such a deep question.
- 4:13Andrew Grinbaum: We could talk about it in every podcast, which is what you do.
- 4:17Andrew Grinbaum: It was a great podcast.
- 4:18Andrew Grinbaum: But that's what it's about.
- 4:19Andrew Grinbaum: And that's my job as a coach sometimes to push back in a very careful way, right?
- 4:24Andrew Grinbaum: Or to open up space for people to see that they're not doing the thing that they need to be doing.
- 4:30Andrew Grinbaum: And somehow through conversations, I hear their heart talking but they're still too focused on being oversharing or over wanting.
- 4:38Andrew Grinbaum: So I hope that makes sense.
- 4:39Tom Jackobs: Yeah, it definitely does and I feel like a lot of the heart-centered entrepreneurs are in the oversharing and they like to just give everything away.
- 4:48Tom Jackobs: And they don't restrict the number of people that like free stuff from them versus paying for their service and their knowledge as well.
- 4:57Tom Jackobs: I, I really like that, the restrict piece as well, because I think people have a hard time saying no to things and thinking, especially if you're in that scarcity mindset
- 5:07Andrew Grinbaum: Absolutely.
- 5:08Tom Jackobs: And a new opportunity comes by and you're like, oh my gosh, this is the most amazing opportunity, but it has no alignment to your business, to your heart, to your passion or purpose.
- 5:17Tom Jackobs: That's a bad thing to do, but a lot of people unfortunately, take that up because.
- 5:21Andrew Grinbaum: Correct.
- 5:22Tom Jackobs: They're in that scarcity mindset.
- 5:24Tom Jackobs: How
- 5:24Andrew Grinbaum: do you help
- 5:24Tom Jackobs: people get through those type of moments?
- 5:26Andrew Grinbaum: Yeah, no, that's a really great question.
- 5:28Andrew Grinbaum: I always start with about five.
- 5:30Andrew Grinbaum: My first five or six sessions with people is getting clear on their, what we call in cabal, the left column, what they desire.
- 5:36Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 5:36Andrew Grinbaum: You know if you can, and that's really important for heart-led and for spiritual CEOs and business owners.
- 5:43Andrew Grinbaum: And founders, yes, they often overshare, it's okay to share.
- 5:47Andrew Grinbaum: You have to learn how to share, right?
- 5:49Andrew Grinbaum: But you should first define the first five or six sessions is all about them, all about really getting clear on what they want to do in this world.
- 5:57Andrew Grinbaum: What they want to achieve, both for humanity and for the planet, but also for themselves.
- 6:02Andrew Grinbaum: Very important.
- 6:03Andrew Grinbaum: You know, not all of us can be a Mother Teresa, and first of all, we have to make money.
- 6:07Andrew Grinbaum: And in fact, if you're offering, the better product you share, the more heart- based offer you have, actually you should be charging even more because there's a lot of commodities out there.
- 6:18Andrew Grinbaum: And we come from a real authentic place.
- 6:20Andrew Grinbaum: We have actual things to offer the marketplace that are life changing.
- 6:24Andrew Grinbaum: And if you have something that's life changing, you have to get paid for it.
- 6:28Andrew Grinbaum: So we define what does that look like, and, and then what I do is I reference that, I just had, I was telling you right before the show began that I was like, what am I gonna, I wanna tell some stories.
- 6:39Andrew Grinbaum: And of course, right before this, I had a client who wants to quit coaching.
- 6:44Andrew Grinbaum: She had some setbacks and she, she's in a long-term contract and I'm like, no, you're gonna do the coaching.
- 6:51Andrew Grinbaum: And I know you've had these setbacks and I know it's been tough and somebody ripped her off like$10,000 and it's horrible.
- 6:58Andrew Grinbaum: She just wants to quit everything.
- 6:59Andrew Grinbaum: I'm like no.
- 7:00Andrew Grinbaum: This is the time to buckle down.
- 7:01Andrew Grinbaum: Remember what you wanna do.
- 7:02Andrew Grinbaum: She actually wants, she has an incredible product to bring natural natural fibers in sportswear.
- 7:08Andrew Grinbaum: It's a really great thing.
- 7:10Andrew Grinbaum: All these athletes are wearing a lot of polyester and it's not healthy for them.
- 7:14Andrew Grinbaum: And it, the data shows that it's scientifically proven.
- 7:18Andrew Grinbaum: I'm like, you're bringing something so incredible to the marketplace.
- 7:21Andrew Grinbaum: Don't quit now.
- 7:22Andrew Grinbaum: I know you've had some, six months has been slow going, but I remind her what she's here to accomplish.
- 7:29Andrew Grinbaum: Stick with it and in six months, see where you're at.
- 7:32Andrew Grinbaum: But certainly if you pull back, then nothing's gonna happen.
- 7:35Tom Jackobs: Exactly.
- 7:35Andrew Grinbaum: Right?
- 7:36Andrew Grinbaum: So we go back to the root.
- 7:37Andrew Grinbaum: That's why it's so important to get clear on what your purpose is, right?
- 7:41Andrew Grinbaum: What your vision is, what your values are, but really authentic values.
- 7:45Andrew Grinbaum: I study Kabbalah, which is mysticism, and some people say do you have to believe in God to study Kabbalah.
- 7:51Andrew Grinbaum: No, you don't.
- 7:52Andrew Grinbaum: Because an Atheist can have values and they oftentimes, they can be a great humanist, they can have great values, ethics, all these things matter.
- 7:59Andrew Grinbaum: All of these things matter, and you have to get clear on them.
- 8:02Andrew Grinbaum: Some of my clients are Evangelical Christians, some are Atheists.
- 8:05Andrew Grinbaum: I take'em all as long as they wanna make a difference in the world, right?
- 8:10Andrew Grinbaum: So all those people, whether you're an Evangel Christian or an Atheist, or somewhere in between, you can still have a mission and a purpose and great values, right?
- 8:18Andrew Grinbaum: And what you want to achieve, right?
- 8:20Andrew Grinbaum: With that, you are bringing all this to the marketplace.
- 8:24Andrew Grinbaum: Great.
- 8:24Andrew Grinbaum: What do you want for yourself?
- 8:26Andrew Grinbaum: We always go back to that.
- 8:27Andrew Grinbaum: What do you want for yourself?
- 8:29Andrew Grinbaum: Now you have to restrict.
- 8:31Andrew Grinbaum: It's gonna be tough for her.
- 8:33Andrew Grinbaum: It's a tough week, really tough, where, she just, somebody's not cooperating with her, ripped her off.
- 8:39Andrew Grinbaum: It's the end of the year.
- 8:40Andrew Grinbaum: You just wanna just quit.
- 8:41Andrew Grinbaum: I get it.
- 8:42Andrew Grinbaum: But if she connects with her heart, and that's where a lot of meditation work comes in, she really just calms down, just relaxes, meditates, goes out in nature, whatever she needs to do, she will reconnect with her heart and she wants to change the world.
- 8:57Andrew Grinbaum: So that's more important than any sort of minor setback.
- 9:01Andrew Grinbaum: In the big picture,$10,000 is a lot of money, but in the big picture, it's really not when you're changing the world.
- 9:08Tom Jackobs: Yeah, and that's interesting too when people have those little setbacks and then they wanna quit doing something because of a setback, rather than looking at the bigger picture of what, what's really going on.
- 9:20Tom Jackobs: I think if you don't have a strong, north star or purpose or drive, that's gonna be very easy to give up on stuff
- 9:29Andrew Grinbaum: Yep,
- 9:30Tom Jackobs: just say, oh, the hero, it's not working again.
- 9:32Tom Jackobs: So onto the next thing.
- 9:34Tom Jackobs: And I know I, I've definitely been down that road.
- 9:36Tom Jackobs: I think we've all been down that
- 9:37Andrew Grinbaum: me too.
- 9:38Andrew Grinbaum: For sure.
- 9:38Tom Jackobs: shiny object syndrome.
- 9:40Andrew Grinbaum: Yeah.
- 9:40Tom Jackobs: grass is greener on the other side, but when we stick to stuff and we stick with our principles and our purpose, that's when life gets really fun.
- 9:49Andrew Grinbaum: And I always remind people I like the the analogy of, I don't know whether it's apocryphal, it really happened, right?
- 9:54Andrew Grinbaum: Edison broke 10,000 light bulbs to get to, I dunno if it's 10,000 or 1,000.
- 10:00Andrew Grinbaum: Sure he tried long time ago.
- 10:01Tom Jackobs: Tried a lot, right?
- 10:03Andrew Grinbaum: He tried a lot.
- 10:04Andrew Grinbaum: And he's a great change agent.
- 10:06Andrew Grinbaum: Literally brought light to the world.
- 10:08Andrew Grinbaum: I am sure.
- 10:09Andrew Grinbaum: After maybe 500 experiments, that failed.
- 10:12Andrew Grinbaum: Nobody would've faulted him for quitting, right?
- 10:15Andrew Grinbaum: His wife, I was calling, Hey Charles, maybe, right?
- 10:17Andrew Grinbaum: Charles, that I forgot his first name.
- 10:19Andrew Grinbaum: Charles, right?
- 10:20Andrew Grinbaum: Thomas.
- 10:20Andrew Grinbaum: Sorry.
- 10:20Andrew Grinbaum: Oh my God.
- 10:21Andrew Grinbaum: Sorry.
- 10:22Andrew Grinbaum: Sorry.
- 10:22Andrew Grinbaum: It's late.
- 10:23Andrew Grinbaum: It's late here.
- 10:24Andrew Grinbaum: Thomas, maybe you wanna come in.
- 10:25Andrew Grinbaum: I made you dinner.
- 10:26Andrew Grinbaum: The kids miss you.
- 10:28Andrew Grinbaum: Nobody would've faulted him.
- 10:29Andrew Grinbaum: So we have to keep going and you have to ask yourself.
- 10:32Andrew Grinbaum: Most of us quit way before the 500th failure.
- 10:36Andrew Grinbaum: And the greatest people were extremists.
- 10:38Andrew Grinbaum: I, I talk a lot with my clients about business leaders and famous historical leaders.
- 10:44Andrew Grinbaum: They're all crazy extremists.
- 10:47Andrew Grinbaum: The successful people.
- 10:48Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 10:48Andrew Grinbaum: Crazy people in a good way.
- 10:51Andrew Grinbaum: Like they don't quit.
- 10:52Andrew Grinbaum: They have this tenacity to never quit.
- 10:54Andrew Grinbaum: All right.
- 10:55Andrew Grinbaum: So that's also a big part of it because it's, it is so easy to quit.
- 10:59Andrew Grinbaum: It's easy.
- 11:00Andrew Grinbaum: You're given, oh, you were okay.
- 11:02Andrew Grinbaum: You tried.
- 11:03Andrew Grinbaum: In our society, it's okay to try.
- 11:05Andrew Grinbaum: That's not what entrepreneurs do.
- 11:07Andrew Grinbaum: We can't just try, we don't get a a medal for that.
- 11:11Tom Jackobs: No.
- 11:11Tom Jackobs: Participation revenue.
- 11:12Andrew Grinbaum: Participation trophy.
- 11:13Andrew Grinbaum: In the back you don't get that.
- 11:15Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 11:15Andrew Grinbaum: So people pat your, oh, good job.
- 11:17Andrew Grinbaum: You tried great, and then you come to the end of your life and you're like, oh, all these things I could have could've done, coulda, shoulda, would've.
- 11:24Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 11:25Tom Jackobs: Oh, wow.
- 11:26Tom Jackobs: I'd like to kinda go back just a little bit and get your backstory in terms of how you came about using Kabbalah as a coaching methodology.
- 11:33Andrew Grinbaum: Yeah, that's a great question.
- 11:35Andrew Grinbaum: I found during grad school, a Kabbalah class, and I started taking it.
- 11:38Andrew Grinbaum: I thought, wow, this is really interesting because growing up I went to Hebrew school, I grew up Jewish in the Jewish faith, and no matter what kind of religious schooling you go to, whether it's Jewish, Christian, Catholic, they don't answer your questions if you have deep questions.
- 11:52Andrew Grinbaum: They just don't have the answers.
- 11:54Andrew Grinbaum: So I got really disenchanted with the whole religious thing.
- 11:58Andrew Grinbaum: I was just a cultural Jew.
- 12:00Andrew Grinbaum: I didn't connect to anything like that.
- 12:03Andrew Grinbaum: And when I found the Kabbalah, it was a place where I said, ask any question and don't believe anything we say.
- 12:09Andrew Grinbaum: That's the teach.
- 12:10Andrew Grinbaum: Don't believe anything we say.
- 12:11Andrew Grinbaum: Prove it to yourself and there's no question you can't ask.
- 12:13Andrew Grinbaum: And I like that.
- 12:15Andrew Grinbaum: I started using it practically.
- 12:17Andrew Grinbaum: It's a practical philosophy.
- 12:19Andrew Grinbaum: It's a practical system.
- 12:20Andrew Grinbaum: It's not just philosophy.
- 12:22Andrew Grinbaum: It's, there's practical tools that go back.
- 12:25Andrew Grinbaum: Actually, the first book of Kabbalah, a lot of people don't know this.
- 12:29Andrew Grinbaum: It predates the Bible by 400 years.
- 12:31Andrew Grinbaum: During by Abraham the patriarch.
- 12:33Tom Jackobs: Okay.
- 12:34Andrew Grinbaum: People don't know that before the Bible, there was other books or, we know there's other books before the Bible, but Abraham wrote a book.
- 12:40Andrew Grinbaum: So it, it's very ancient and it's a technology that you can utilize in your life to improve it.
- 12:47Andrew Grinbaum: And the way I learned Kabbalah, it's almost like you can look at Moses as the spiritual leader, but I look him more as the ancient Tony Robbins.
- 12:56Andrew Grinbaum: And, and Abraham and all these guys and women too, they had these techniques to be successful.
- 13:02Andrew Grinbaum: And we see that a lot of people in the Bible were extraordinary successful.
- 13:06Andrew Grinbaum: And by the way, extraordinarily rich.
- 13:09Andrew Grinbaum: In Jewish synagogues, they read about Joseph.
- 13:12Andrew Grinbaum: And Joseph, right?
- 13:13Andrew Grinbaum: We know this from, even if you don't read the Bible, you've probably seen one of the movies, Joseph in it, right?
- 13:17Andrew Grinbaum: The Prince of Egypt and all these things.
- 13:20Andrew Grinbaum: He was the richest person maybe in the world who ever lived, and they called him Yosef HaTzaddik Joseph, the righteous.
- 13:27Andrew Grinbaum: So you can be righteous, whatever that means to you, and be rich.
- 13:30Andrew Grinbaum: Okay?
- 13:31Andrew Grinbaum: That's one of the things I learned too, because I growing up in the Judeo-Christian world, we're often taught that money is evil.
- 13:40Andrew Grinbaum: We have it somehow in us.
- 13:41Andrew Grinbaum: It's the love of money that's evil, but we have this guilt around it.
- 13:45Andrew Grinbaum: And coming from, I immigrated from the Soviet Union very poor.
- 13:49Andrew Grinbaum: Everybody was poor in my family, parents, grandparents, everything grew up poor.
- 13:53Andrew Grinbaum: So you have this thing around money.
- 13:56Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 13:56Andrew Grinbaum: And first place, I learned really the power of money, how important it's to have money is in the Kabbalah.
- 14:02Andrew Grinbaum: When I learned about all these guys wait a minute, Jacob, Abraham, Joseph, all these guys we're super rich.
- 14:09Andrew Grinbaum: And we remember them thousands of years later.
- 14:11Andrew Grinbaum: So I started using it in, after I finished grad school, I got a job in publishing in corporate America, and about a year into it, I'm like, I grew so much in Kabbalah using these kind of like ancient personal development techniques.
- 14:26Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 14:26Andrew Grinbaum: Then, I quit corporate America.
- 14:28Andrew Grinbaum: And in the 90's when nobody was doing it, I became a consultant.
- 14:32Andrew Grinbaum: I was working from home.
- 14:33Andrew Grinbaum: I had a phone, I had a fax machine.
- 14:35Andrew Grinbaum: That was my, if I remember those fax machine.
- 14:38Andrew Grinbaum: I had a phone, like a dial up.
- 14:40Andrew Grinbaum: I think
- 14:40Tom Jackobs: yeah.
- 14:41Andrew Grinbaum: I may have had a headset,
- 14:43Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 14:44Andrew Grinbaum: and I became a consultant because I said, you know what, nobody's listening to me and I want to do something more than just be, than just work in corporate America.
- 14:53Andrew Grinbaum: But it was funny back then, nobody worked from home.
- 14:55Andrew Grinbaum: When COVID hit, everybody started working from home.
- 14:57Andrew Grinbaum: I'm like, welcome, welcome to the war.
- 15:00Andrew Grinbaum: Welcome to the future.
- 15:02Andrew Grinbaum: I've been doing it since the 90's, but it was funny because, I'd work from home and people, nobody understood what I was doing.
- 15:08Andrew Grinbaum: I'm like, I'm consulting, Can't you pick up my dry cleaning?
- 15:11Andrew Grinbaum: You're just at home.
- 15:12Tom Jackobs: Right.
- 15:13Andrew Grinbaum: No, I'm actually working, I'm developing projects and then I was doing a lot of marketing consulting, putting together marketing projects for my clients like you're at home.
- 15:22Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 15:22Andrew Grinbaum: So that was a whole, that's a whole other story.
- 15:24Andrew Grinbaum: But it was very funny'cause people literally thought, and my parents, God bless them, they didn't get it until I got myself an office.
- 15:31Andrew Grinbaum: I opened my first business, I opened up, one of my first businesses was executive suites, and there I had an office and they're like, okay, Andy has an office.
- 15:39Tom Jackobs: Now you have a real job,
- 15:41Andrew Grinbaum: I have real job.
- 15:42Tom Jackobs: an office.
- 15:43Andrew Grinbaum: Yeah.
- 15:43Andrew Grinbaum: And they also got, they got the executive suites because it was like a store, with a bunch of offices you can sell.
- 15:50Andrew Grinbaum: So they asked me, how many stores do you have?
- 15:52Andrew Grinbaum: I have three now this year, and then I have four and I have five.
- 15:54Andrew Grinbaum: It's okay, Andy's got five stores.
- 15:56Andrew Grinbaum: We get that.
- 15:56Tom Jackobs: Okay.
- 15:57Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 15:57Tom Jackobs: It's tangible.
- 15:58Andrew Grinbaum: So it came together, right?
- 15:59Andrew Grinbaum: I was learning everything about business and then it was great to be a, throw myself into it at 20 or three or 24,
- 16:06Tom Jackobs: Wow.
- 16:06Andrew Grinbaum: Be a consultant, figure it out.
- 16:08Andrew Grinbaum: Then I only charge 40 or 60 bucks an hour, whatever.
- 16:11Andrew Grinbaum: I still more than I can make in corporate America.
- 16:14Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 16:14Andrew Grinbaum: And people listened to me.
- 16:16Andrew Grinbaum: That was really important.
- 16:17Andrew Grinbaum: I kind of skipped over those entry level positions where nobody listens to you.
- 16:23Andrew Grinbaum: I see this with my clients who are executives.
- 16:25Andrew Grinbaum: This is the problem with, there's corporate governance, there's teams.
- 16:28Andrew Grinbaum: Even if you're an executive, doesn't mean anybody's listening to you.
- 16:31Andrew Grinbaum: So when somebody hires me, they pay me for my ideas.
- 16:36Andrew Grinbaum: And I love that.
- 16:38Andrew Grinbaum: Even if I was only making 40 bucks, as a 23 or 24-year-old, 40 bucks an hour, it was like amazing cause people hid me for my idea.
- 16:46Andrew Grinbaum: And it was great.
- 16:46Andrew Grinbaum: And then I incorporated Kabbalah into it.
- 16:49Andrew Grinbaum: I just didn't call it Kabbalah.
- 16:51Andrew Grinbaum: I called it personal development or leadership.
- 16:54Andrew Grinbaum: Right?
- 16:54Andrew Grinbaum: There's a lot of leadership principles in there.
- 16:56Tom Jackobs: What type of reaction do you get from people when they start to hire you and you bring in Kabbalah, or do they know from the onset that you're gonna be using Kabbalah and so you attract the right type of person.
- 17:09Andrew Grinbaum: That's a great story.
- 17:10Andrew Grinbaum: So over the past year, I've been totally out of the closet about it.
- 17:14Andrew Grinbaum: In the beginning, I would frame it under leadership and personal development, but that's one of the big changes I made.
- 17:20Andrew Grinbaum: And I started a nonprofit called Spirituality and Business Institute, where I'm totally out about it.
- 17:26Andrew Grinbaum: I'm an executive director of a nonprofit that's bringing Kabbalah and spiritual techniques to the business world and combining it with scaling.
- 17:34Andrew Grinbaum: Business scaling, which a lot of different people do, EOS and so forth.
- 17:38Tom Jackobs: Sure.
- 17:38Andrew Grinbaum: A lot of folks do that.
- 17:40Andrew Grinbaum: So I'm totally out about it and it was really scary to come out.
- 17:44Andrew Grinbaum: It's amazing how open people today are spiritually hungry.
- 17:48Andrew Grinbaum: We are living in a different world today.
- 17:50Andrew Grinbaum: There's so many problems in the world and people are getting that.
- 17:54Andrew Grinbaum: There's spiritual problems, their soul level, heart level problems, right?
- 17:59Andrew Grinbaum: We're disconnected from each other.
- 18:00Andrew Grinbaum: Everybody's fighting each other.
- 18:02Andrew Grinbaum: In our country, within countries, there's a mental health crisis that all sorts of things going on.
- 18:07Andrew Grinbaum: Everybody's afraid we're gonna be replaced with AI.
- 18:10Tom Jackobs: Right.
- 18:11Andrew Grinbaum: So it's a spiritual, and it's not like we don't have abundance.
- 18:15Andrew Grinbaum: There's so much out there, there's so much wealth.
- 18:18Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 18:18Andrew Grinbaum: And so many opportunities, right?
- 18:20Andrew Grinbaum: We can just get online, we can talk to each other halfway around the world,
- 18:24Tom Jackobs: Literally.
- 18:24Tom Jackobs: Right?
- 18:25Andrew Grinbaum: Literally.
- 18:26Andrew Grinbaum: And so the opportunities are endless but it's very scary times.
- 18:30Andrew Grinbaum: So people are realizing, I see today exec, like high level CEOs go on a conference call with their team and cry over something.
- 18:37Andrew Grinbaum: You couldn't do that 20 years ago.
- 18:38Andrew Grinbaum: If you're a CEO and you cry about the play of the world, you're gonna get fired.
- 18:43Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 18:43Andrew Grinbaum: So yeah, like gay people are very open, they're much more open.
- 18:47Andrew Grinbaum: So I really encourage people be totally out about being heart-led, being spiritual, being soft on the inside, people want to see and that's who they want to follow.
- 18:59Andrew Grinbaum: So actually, some of my most successful clients are the most authentic clients.
- 19:05Andrew Grinbaum: They're really open.
- 19:06Andrew Grinbaum: They don't hold anything back.
- 19:08Andrew Grinbaum: Maybe good, maybe bad, but they're very open about who they are.
- 19:11Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 19:11Andrew Grinbaum: So I think it's a great time and it was very scary for me.
- 19:15Andrew Grinbaum: Of course to say I'm a capitalist and who does he think he is?
- 19:18Andrew Grinbaum: He's a capitalist.
- 19:20Andrew Grinbaum: He's studying this mysticism.
- 19:21Andrew Grinbaum: But I was at a conference like a month ago in Guatemala at a tech and finance conference.
- 19:27Andrew Grinbaum: I spoke on spirituality and business and a hundred people came up to me afterwards,
- 19:32Tom Jackobs: Wow.
- 19:32Andrew Grinbaum: asking me questions.
- 19:33Andrew Grinbaum: Tech, tech people, finance people, people you'd never think they're all open.
- 19:38Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 19:39Andrew Grinbaum: So it's a great time to be coming from your heart.
- 19:42Andrew Grinbaum: Great time.
- 19:43Tom Jackobs: That's amazing.
- 19:44Tom Jackobs: What type of shifts have you seen with either yourself or with clients after kinda, this all just kinda clicks in their mind and in their heart, and they start to see some changes.
- 19:56Andrew Grinbaum: Sure.
- 19:56Andrew Grinbaum: Just recently I can tell you a great story.
- 19:59Andrew Grinbaum: I went through a process with a client.
- 20:01Andrew Grinbaum: I have something called the change agent challenge.
- 20:03Andrew Grinbaum: It's like a six day process, right?
- 20:05Andrew Grinbaum: Take people through creating a template for something they want to.
- 20:09Andrew Grinbaum: They're already typically CEOs who have some sort of business and they want to take it to the next level, and what are they here to change in the world, right?
- 20:16Andrew Grinbaum: So I have this process with them.
- 20:18Andrew Grinbaum: And this one CEO, very, very successful guy.
- 20:21Andrew Grinbaum: Super successful.
- 20:23Andrew Grinbaum: But he realized through that process that he hasn't seen his kids often.
- 20:27Andrew Grinbaum: And when he gets his end of his life, where does he want to be?
- 20:30Andrew Grinbaum: He does, he wanna make a billion dollars, or maybe only a hundred million, but have a relationship with his family.
- 20:36Andrew Grinbaum: So he actually pulled back.
- 20:38Andrew Grinbaum: And the first thing he did after three or four sessions is, and his son was another close by, but in another country with his mom.
- 20:45Andrew Grinbaum: And he went to visit.
- 20:46Andrew Grinbaum: Now he's there all the time.
- 20:47Andrew Grinbaum: He's living half the time.
- 20:49Andrew Grinbaum: And seeing his son a lot.
- 20:51Andrew Grinbaum: So that's the kind of chain when people open up, I see they start focusing on what's important.
- 20:57Andrew Grinbaum: And for a lot of entrepreneurs, it's refocusing on maybe their health, their family cause you can have all the cars and all the houses.
- 21:06Andrew Grinbaum: It's ultimately just gonna be empty houses.
- 21:08Andrew Grinbaum: And sometimes if the opposite happens, people use their children and their family is an excuse not to be up late at night and working hard.
- 21:16Andrew Grinbaum: They make excuses about not following their path because they have children.
- 21:20Andrew Grinbaum: I have three kids, I get it.
- 21:21Andrew Grinbaum: My daughter's calling me right now.
- 21:24Andrew Grinbaum: I'm ignoring her.
- 21:24Andrew Grinbaum: I might bring her off.
- 21:25Andrew Grinbaum: She's calling me about something.
- 21:26Andrew Grinbaum: I have three kids.
- 21:27Andrew Grinbaum: I have a wife.
- 21:28Andrew Grinbaum: I have all these responsibilities.
- 21:30Andrew Grinbaum: I have to be up sometimes late into the night working on my projects.
- 21:33Andrew Grinbaum: That's being authentic to my path.
- 21:35Andrew Grinbaum: And so I see both.
- 21:37Andrew Grinbaum: So again it's a balance.
- 21:38Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 21:39Andrew Grinbaum: When people reconnect, they really see what's important, and I'm there to hopefully hold them accountable, as best as I can.
- 21:45Tom Jackobs: Okay, cool.
- 21:46Tom Jackobs: And once they've kinda reconnected to their inner voice and they've kinda gone all through, through your system and your process, what type of results have they gotten because they've opened up their heart, they've become more authentic to others?
- 22:01Andrew Grinbaum: Yeah, I mean, I can tell you the founders who stick to it.
- 22:06Andrew Grinbaum: I have a lot of clients, they've doubled their revenue three years in a row.
- 22:09Tom Jackobs: Wow.
- 22:10Andrew Grinbaum: Like some really incredible, yeah, 30, 40% growth is normal, right?
- 22:14Andrew Grinbaum: 'cause you're being authentic and this is the key.
- 22:17Andrew Grinbaum: So when you're authentic, you're speaking from your heart.
- 22:20Andrew Grinbaum: What happens in a, let's say, a sales conversation, and you know this very well, you're a master salesperson.
- 22:26Andrew Grinbaum: I get all your emails just amazing.
- 22:28Andrew Grinbaum: But when you speak from the heart, you end up speaking to another person's heart.
- 22:32Andrew Grinbaum: We can really be authentic, and those are the best salespeople Who can really connect with other people.
- 22:37Andrew Grinbaum: It seems like they're not even selling.
- 22:39Andrew Grinbaum: They're selling things,
- 22:40Tom Jackobs: Right.
- 22:41Andrew Grinbaum: So, they go from trying to sell to having authentic conversations with their clients, with their employees.
- 22:47Andrew Grinbaum: Everybody stays longer.
- 22:48Andrew Grinbaum: Everybody does better.
- 22:50Andrew Grinbaum: Their teams get inspired because now they have a mission and they're speaking authentically.
- 22:55Andrew Grinbaum: So that's like the big change.
- 22:57Andrew Grinbaum: And also I see that a lot of people who start businesses, they have a passion to do something, right?
- 23:05Andrew Grinbaum: So they create a business to explore their passion, and then eight years later, they're not only doing the passion, but they're the sales manager, they're the bookkeeper, they're the operations manager, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
- 23:18Andrew Grinbaum: One guy earlier this year, I asked for a job description.
- 23:22Andrew Grinbaum: There were like at least nine jobs he was doing in his company.
- 23:25Andrew Grinbaum: I'm like, no wonder you don't sleep.
- 23:27Andrew Grinbaum: I don't know how he lived.
- 23:28Andrew Grinbaum: And some of these people are very successful, but they don't realize they've created this kind of prison.
- 23:34Andrew Grinbaum: So what I do, and that's the practical part of it's listen, instead of maybe making$600,000 next year, maybe make 400,000, but use that 200 to hire two operations directors, right?
- 23:45Andrew Grinbaum: Hire a sales manager, hire a lot of them don't have exec people making a million dollars a year.
- 23:50Andrew Grinbaum: They don't have a outsource executive assistant or it's crazy.
- 23:55Andrew Grinbaum: I'm like, you working 80 hours a week?
- 23:56Andrew Grinbaum: What's wrong with you?
- 23:57Andrew Grinbaum: I ask them, what is your time worth?
- 24:00Andrew Grinbaum: Let's say have a$5 million company, you're in a million dollar company times 2,000 hours.
- 24:05Andrew Grinbaum: Let's say I do a numbers with it, you're valued at$500 an hour because you're you are the king or the queen of this business.
- 24:12Andrew Grinbaum: That's why CEOs get paid so much.
- 24:15Andrew Grinbaum: So if it's a million dollar business, if you work 2000 hours, how much is that?
- 24:19Andrew Grinbaum: That's$500 an hour.
- 24:21Andrew Grinbaum: And they go, oh my God.
- 24:22Andrew Grinbaum: Never thought about it like that.
- 24:24Andrew Grinbaum: So I tell'em, anything under that$500 somebody else needs to do.
- 24:28Andrew Grinbaum: Okay.
- 24:29Andrew Grinbaum: There's no doubt somebody else needs to do that work.
- 24:32Andrew Grinbaum: And so we go through the practical part of it too, right?
- 24:35Andrew Grinbaum: Be the CEO, don't be the bookkeeper, don't be the social media poster.
- 24:41Andrew Grinbaum: It's crazy, right?
- 24:42Andrew Grinbaum: I'm sure you see this too, a lot.
- 24:43Andrew Grinbaum: Clients do everything.
- 24:44Tom Jackobs: Personally.
- 24:46Andrew Grinbaum: Okay?
- 24:47Andrew Grinbaum: Clients do too much.
- 24:48Andrew Grinbaum: We have to talk then, but if you wanna build a$5 million business which is$2,500 an hour, that's, I have to start thinking.
- 24:55Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 24:56Andrew Grinbaum: I'm, if a$5 million business, my hourly is$2,500 an hour over 2026, let's say it's gonna gonna appear some.
- 25:04Andrew Grinbaum: In this year in 2026, am I going to do things that are under that level?
- 25:09Andrew Grinbaum: Sometimes you have to, yes, there's an emergency,
- 25:12Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 25:12Andrew Grinbaum: but you could probably hire people for today.
- 25:16Andrew Grinbaum: 8, 10, 15,$20 an hour.
- 25:18Andrew Grinbaum: Really qualified people with college degrees to do other countries.
- 25:22Andrew Grinbaum: Columbia, the Philippines, different places.
- 25:25Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 25:25Andrew Grinbaum: Where that's a really great living and they can do a lot of this stuff for you.
- 25:29Andrew Grinbaum: So if you want to get that 5 million or I have guys going towards a hundred million, I don't even know what the hourly is, 10,000 an hour, whatever that is.
- 25:38Andrew Grinbaum: You can't do your bookkeeping.
- 25:40Tom Jackobs: No.
- 25:40Andrew Grinbaum: still are, so it's a practical thing to help them think, start thinking like a CEO that they're meant to be, or a CEO of their life, of their business.
- 25:50Andrew Grinbaum: And get people to help you.
- 25:52Andrew Grinbaum: I'll say just the final thing.
- 25:53Andrew Grinbaum: There's no such thing.
- 25:54Andrew Grinbaum: It's a myth.
- 25:56Andrew Grinbaum: I was talking about that today with somebody.
- 25:59Andrew Grinbaum: There's no such thing as the self-made man or woman.
- 26:02Andrew Grinbaum: It doesn't exist.
- 26:03Andrew Grinbaum: We all need help, whether it's bringing on partners who can help us grow our business, we can share the wealth with, or we hire people or we ask for help.
- 26:13Andrew Grinbaum: Maybe get a coach, something.
- 26:15Andrew Grinbaum: This whole idea of I'm gonna do it myself and I'm a self-made millionaire.
- 26:18Andrew Grinbaum: It's a myth.
- 26:20Andrew Grinbaum: It's a myth.
- 26:20Andrew Grinbaum: It doesn't exist.
- 26:22Andrew Grinbaum: So that's the kind of things we work through, right?
- 26:24Andrew Grinbaum: The spiritual part, also the practical part.
- 26:27Andrew Grinbaum: Know your value.
- 26:28Tom Jackobs: I love that.
- 26:29Tom Jackobs: I love that so much.
- 26:30Tom Jackobs: And I was laughing because literally yesterday I hired an account, a bookkeeper.
- 26:35Andrew Grinbaum: Oh, congratulations.
- 26:36Tom Jackobs: I don't need to be doing, but I like to do sometimes I believe it or not, I'm, I don't know how I got away with this, but I actually enjoy accounting work, which is weird because I'm not a really big numbers person.
- 26:47Andrew Grinbaum: It's fun, right?
- 26:48Andrew Grinbaum: Yeah.
- 26:48Andrew Grinbaum: You could see it.
- 26:49Tom Jackobs: Yeah, it's very practical, but I don't need to be like reconciling my QuickBooks to my bank
- 26:55Andrew Grinbaum: Correct.
- 26:56Andrew Grinbaum: Yeah.
- 26:56Andrew Grinbaum: A lot of times people, you have to, I use the term divorce.
- 26:59Andrew Grinbaum: You have to literally divorce yourself from a lot of the jobs you like doing.
- 27:02Andrew Grinbaum: If you want to grow.
- 27:04Andrew Grinbaum: Married to, you love it, right?
- 27:05Andrew Grinbaum: The numbers, look at that QuickBooks, looking at bank accounts, P and Ls, that's fun.
- 27:09Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 27:10Andrew Grinbaum: Yeah, but you know what?
- 27:11Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 27:12Andrew Grinbaum: If you wanna make$10 million or$50 million, maybe you have once a month meeting with your bookkeeper.
- 27:17Tom Jackobs: Yeah, exactly,
- 27:18Andrew Grinbaum: he or she reconciles everything, and it's a discipline for sure, to have a financial meeting once a month.
- 27:24Tom Jackobs: Maybe more than that and just getting by and now, I can have her do.
- 27:30Tom Jackobs: Like all the reconciliations.
- 27:32Tom Jackobs: Take up that five hours.
- 27:32Tom Jackobs: Those five hours.
- 27:33Tom Jackobs: Now I get back to grow the business
- 27:36Andrew Grinbaum: Correct.
- 27:36Tom Jackobs: Five hours that for the last, what, five years, 10 years, 15 years that I've been investing in QuickBooks.
- 27:43Andrew Grinbaum: Yeah.
- 27:43Andrew Grinbaum: How much can you sell?
- 27:44Andrew Grinbaum: That's 250 hours a year.
- 27:47Andrew Grinbaum: You could have been selling
- 27:48Tom Jackobs: another a hundred.
- 27:49Andrew Grinbaum: business.
- 27:49Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 27:50Tom Jackobs: And if you do a 50% close rate, that's a, another 125 clients.
- 27:53Andrew Grinbaum: Exactly.
- 27:54Andrew Grinbaum: Which is crazy.
- 27:55Andrew Grinbaum: So that's, I have to look at it.
- 27:57Andrew Grinbaum: Yes.
- 27:57Andrew Grinbaum: You have to divorce yourself and there's probably other things you do as well and that you need to just divorce yourself from, even though it's fun
- 28:03Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 28:03Andrew Grinbaum: and just focus on closing, which I know you're really good at.
- 28:06Andrew Grinbaum: That's it.
- 28:07Andrew Grinbaum: If you don't, if you're not passionate about that, then try another business.
- 28:11Tom Jackobs: Exactly..
- 28:12Andrew Grinbaum: Yeah.
- 28:12Tom Jackobs: This has been just fascinating and one of the first sets one of the first interviews that we've had that we've combined a spiritual practice with business practice.
- 28:22Tom Jackobs: And I think that's just, it's really brilliant to help people in all different walks of life.
- 28:27Andrew Grinbaum: Thanks.
- 28:27Tom Jackobs: If just different tools available to them to be successful.
- 28:30Andrew Grinbaum: Thank you.
- 28:31Andrew Grinbaum: I appreciate that.
- 28:32Tom Jackobs: How can people learn more about what you're doing and potentially work with you?
- 28:36Andrew Grinbaum: Yeah, so I have a few free kind of playbooks and webinars that I have a host on my site.
- 28:43Andrew Grinbaum: One of'em if they, people wanna learn about the inner part of this work.
- 28:47Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 28:47Andrew Grinbaum: I've something called the inner CEO.
- 28:49Andrew Grinbaum: Which is a bunch of exercises.
- 28:50Andrew Grinbaum: It's a playbook.
- 28:51Andrew Grinbaum: It's pretty long, it's 40, 50 pages long.
- 28:54Andrew Grinbaum: So it's not just like a white paper, it's not fluff.
- 28:56Andrew Grinbaum: I take a lot of these ideas that I work with clients, and I think you'll probably provide a link at the bottom of this podcast.
- 29:03Andrew Grinbaum: They can click on and just download the inner CEO.
- 29:05Andrew Grinbaum: It is going behind a paywall very soon.
- 29:08Andrew Grinbaum: If you're listening to this podcast and it's behind a paywall already.
- 29:11Andrew Grinbaum: Contact me through the website and I'll send you a code.
- 29:14Andrew Grinbaum: Because we are working.
- 29:15Andrew Grinbaum: I gave it away for free to test it in the marketplace.
- 29:18Andrew Grinbaum: There's been several hundred downloads and at this point I'm gonna put it behind a paywall,
- 29:22Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 29:22Andrew Grinbaum: But I will send a code because I know it's happening now.
- 29:25Andrew Grinbaum: They're putting it behind a paywall, but it's still available for the foreseeable future, but it will go behind a paywall.
- 29:31Andrew Grinbaum: But the inner CEO is a great place to start.
- 29:34Tom Jackobs: Nice.
- 29:34Andrew Grinbaum: that'll give you a whole playbook on how to bring mindfulness and meditation and this kind of stuff into business building.
- 29:41Tom Jackobs: And a nice practical approach to doing it.
- 29:43Tom Jackobs: I love that.
- 29:44Andrew Grinbaum: Absolutely.
- 29:44Andrew Grinbaum: Step by step.
- 29:45Andrew Grinbaum: I'm very practical.
- 29:46Tom Jackobs: Well, Thanks for putting that up there for the audience.
- 29:48Tom Jackobs: I'm sure they will really appreciate that.
- 29:50Andrew Grinbaum: Absolutely.
