Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_00: People are being convinced, yeah, man, I'm in a battle, and these are the solutions.
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: But my concern is they're gonna try Jesus.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: They're gonna try using the name of Jesus, and they've not really given their heart to the Lord yet.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: They're not really in a relationship with Christ.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: So people gotta take that first step and first submit their heart before the devil will submit to them in the name of Jesus.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: Hey, welcome everybody to the X Mile Podcast.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: Back at it again this week with uh Pastor Austin Young.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: Having a conversation again on spiritual warfare, man, this really hard to talk about, easy to talk about, needed to talk about conversation.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: The reason I say it's hard is it feels, let's be honest, spiritual warfare sounds weird.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it doesn't feel like real.
- 0:44SPEAKER_01: Like it doesn't feel like it actually affects your life every day as much as it actually does.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, golly, that's another layer.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: To me, just to talk about it, anybody who's not really walking with Jesus, it's like it's almost like speaking in tongues or like kind of some French.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: It's like a weird thing.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's like, oh, you're one of those Christians.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: And the reality is if you believe the Bible, this spiritual warfare is real.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: Paul talks about it repeatedly in uh in 1 Corinthians and Ephesians that we are in a real spiritual battle.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: Jesus himself had a confrontation with this person called Satan or the devil.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: So it's real.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: The conversation is like, what do we do about it?
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: Because as you just mentioned, a lot of people don't even feel like it impacts their life.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: And it does.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: I mean, you know, what you know, how do you feel like it impacts maybe your life or lives in general?
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think I'm probably like most people.
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: Um, I really don't think about it until things get really bad or until I feel like I've kind of reached the end of my rope and it if something's still not working, I'm like, all right, maybe Satan's in this.
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: Like, um, but yeah, I think for them, I think some, I think it's because you probably experienced the other extreme where people are like, oh, I was late again.
- 1:51SPEAKER_01: The devil made traffic.
- 1:52SPEAKER_01: I was like, no, you woke up late and you got ready slowly.
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: You were late because you're a late person, not because the devil slowed you down.
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 1:59SPEAKER_01: But then the other side is like, man, this happened, this happened, this happened.
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: I'm just, it's all my fault.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: And it's like, well, maybe it's not.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: Maybe there is like some kind of an attack on your life.
- 2:09SPEAKER_01: So I think you kind of can fall into either extreme.
- 2:11SPEAKER_01: I probably fall more into the one of like not spiritual warfare.
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: You're the one C.S.
- 2:16SPEAKER_01: Lewis wrote about.
- 2:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 2:18SPEAKER_01: I'm the one who's like, I can control it, I can handle it.
- 2:20SPEAKER_01: It's on me.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: So that's you know, I mentioned, I mentioned Sunday, kind of the, you know, I think there are things that we we live in a broken world.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: Like things are just broken, and that impacts your life.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: That's not the devil, it's just the world we live in.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: I think a lot of it is bad decisions.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: You know, we make bad decisions about work and health and relationships, and when things go sideways and it impacts our life in a negative way, we want to blame the devil.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: But in reality, there is a spiritual enemy and we're in a spiritual battle.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: So it's not always bad decisions.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: It's not always a broken world.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: Sometimes it's a spiritual battle.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: And so the question we're talking about is if there's a spiritual battle and there is, what do we do about it?
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: And I think that we need to take it seriously.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: And I think we need to be proactive, not reactive, not wait until we recognize we're under attack.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: But how can we be proactive?
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: And so Sunday I talked about some of the things that Paul mentions.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: He says the weapons of our warfare are not carnal.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: So we're in a spiritual battle.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: He actually starts it by saying, even though we live in this physical world, like this isn't the fit, this isn't the world we fight in, but God gives us weapons and they're not, they're not carnal, they're not dependent on our human ability.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: And so I talked about these weapons.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: God's given us weapons to use in the battle.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: Hey, let's use the uh let's use the let's use the weapons.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: So talked about um, obviously the most important is the Bible.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: And this is a big conversation, but um, you know, this idea that one of the ways the enemy attacks us is in the way we we think, the way we think about God, the way we think about ourselves, the way we think about this world.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: And what the enemy wants to do is he wants to, because he's a liar, because he's a deceiver, he wants to plant his viewpoint, he wants to plant his reality in our brain about how we view ourselves, how we view God.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: And once we buy the lie, that thing becomes a stronghold and it changes how we live because we believe a lie.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: And the way we battle that is with the word of God.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: And I'm I'm sure you've experienced that in your own life.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: I've certainly experienced it in mine.
- 4:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, for sure.
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: I think um that's a huge one for me is thoughts.
- 4:12SPEAKER_01: Like I'm I'm a person who I like kind of live in my head a little bit.
- 4:15SPEAKER_01: I'm like, I'm a pro internal processor, and so um I also give a lot of power to my thoughts, and I and I, you know, because that's how I process and kind of where I live most of my time is in my own thoughts.
- 4:27SPEAKER_01: So if a thought that isn't true comes in, it's really easy for me to take hold of it and have it take root.
- 4:33SPEAKER_01: I think, especially like just a specific example is when I've dealt with bouts of depression.
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: One of one of the things and one of my first like really bad bouts in my early 20s is God said to me, just because it's real doesn't mean it's true.
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: And so it was one of like it was kind of like I'm really experiencing this really dark thing.
- 4:54SPEAKER_01: And he was he was kind of going, what you're feeling is valid and real, but it's not true.
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: So don't don't let the reality of your situation make you believe that that's actually what's true about your situation.
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: And so that's something that's helped me with that and pointed me back to scripture and to what's true.
- 5:10SPEAKER_01: I think that's kind of what I think of when we when we talk about scripture being that first way we fight.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: You know, I uh I gave this idea that, you know, one of the things the enemy does is he, he, he covers what God's revealed.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: And what God's revealed is he's revealed through his word who we are and who he is.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: And, you know, I think there's a lot of denominationalism that really is, gosh, I'm not saying the church, but some things that make certain denominations the denominations they are are sometimes, I think, inspired by the enemy.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: And I don't mean to be offensive if you're a part of these denominations, but those that are more legalistic or more religious, you know, the enemy's like put God in this place where he is an unlikable person and doesn't love us the way some people think he think he does.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: And so on the flip side, like, hey, God's gracious and he's just this, he's just this cool guy that lives down the road, he's good with everything.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: And so, based on the liberal or progressive or conservative denomination you're raising, I think that's influenced by these thoughts that aren't always from God.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: And so understanding who God is and understanding who we are, that's what the word is, that's what God's word is truth.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: And so when the enemy plants a lie that you're not good enough, you'll never amount to anything, God doesn't love you, God's abandoned you, you're you're going through this because God, you know, whatever, all the lies, the way we fight that is with the word of God.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: It's it is what Paul says, it is the sword of the spirit.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: And um, you know, I I think people have to get back to, because according to lots of statistics, and you know them as well as I do, lots of people have abandoned really consistently reading the word of God.
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: And uh, I think we'll find ourselves back to reading the word.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: That'll be the weapon we need to recognize the lie when it comes and not allow it, like you said, I love the word used to take root, to be a strongholder, take root in our lives.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: And so we talked about that.
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: We talked about this other idea about the practice of prayer.
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: You know, not just hey, pray, but again, man, these are simple disciplines that God's called us to, and they're they're they're not just for us to be religious, they're actually for our spiritual well-being, they're for our relationship with God, to read God's word and to practice prayer.
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: And, you know, we talked about the Lord's prayer.
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm curious maybe what was the takeaway for for you when we talked about that section?
- 7:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think um that one's a little bit more.
- 7:22SPEAKER_01: I think a lot people, a lot of people find that's more natural because they're more like, hey, yeah, I can complain to God or ask him for help, or but I think what you kind of nailed down a little bit on Sunday was it's not like just saying a prayer.
- 7:38SPEAKER_01: It's like the practice of prayer, like the the relational side of like consistency, not just like when things are really good or really bad, you like throw up a thank you or a help.
- 7:48SPEAKER_01: Like you're kind of actually practicing the relational side of prayer.
- 7:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:52SPEAKER_01: And that's where you're gonna be able to find truth, find ways to fight those lies, all that, all that I think is is kind of the shift that we have to make is like getting more into that rhythm and practice of prayer, not just like the periodical every once in a while prayer.
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I I would agree with you.
- 8:13SPEAKER_00: I would say, you know, that probably most people pray more than they read.
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: And uh this is gonna sound uh this is gonna sound odd, but let me flesh this out.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: You can pray wrong if you don't read the word.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: Because you can pray things that God doesn't want you to pray, you can ask for things that He doesn't want you to ask for, and you can miss asking God for things that He wants you to come and seek Him for.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: And so I think you know, reading the Word of God is what allows us to really pray accurately.
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: So if you don't read the Bible and understand you're in a spiritual battle, you're not gonna say, Lord, lead me not into temptation, because you don't believe you're in a battle.
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: You don't believe you're being led into temptation by the enemy.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: So understanding what God's word says and then allowing that to really, really apply to an intimate relationship conversation with your God with the God that you serve is is transformative in so many ways.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: But in the spiritual battle way, like I can believe that God's gonna help me to not submit when the kingdom of darkness comes against me today.
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: I don't have to submit to it.
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: I don't have to yield to it, I don't have to give in.
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: Why?
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: Because I'm not fighting this carnal battle, I'm not fighting in my own flesh, the power of God, the weapons of my that are mighty in God.
- 9:20SPEAKER_00: And so you can have victory when you read the word, you can have victory when you pray because God is there to help us to not submit to the devil's kingdom, but to his kingdom.
- 9:30SPEAKER_00: He's there to give us the discernment to recognize what is the enemy, what's not, and then ultimately, man, to lead our steps to, hey, I don't, I'm not gonna walk into the trap of the enemy.
- 9:38SPEAKER_00: I'm again, because I don't know about you, but I've walked into some traps and I've fallen, I've fallen for the lie again and again.
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: And so the more we can lean into the word and the more we can practice prayer, man, that's where our weapons really start to shine and give us the victory God wants us to have.
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 9:53SPEAKER_00: But what I wanted to talk about for the extra mile is I wanted to lean into this conversation on authority in the name of Jesus.
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: Which again, if I'm honest, it's one of those things like, ah, that's just what charismatics do.
- 10:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 10:04SPEAKER_00: Which we both are.
- 10:04SPEAKER_00: So we are, we do, yeah.
- 10:07SPEAKER_00: But for those on the outside that think this um to look at a situation, here's what I mean by authority in the name of Jesus.
- 10:13SPEAKER_00: I mean to look at a situation, to be in the middle of a in the middle of a moment, to be in, uh, to be experiencing pushback or oppression or whatever word you want to put on it, and be able to speak verbally out of your mouth in the name of Jesus.
- 10:27SPEAKER_00: Like I come against this attack on my kids, I come against this attack on my body in the name of Jesus.
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: Now, should we go to doctors?
- 10:34SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 10:35SPEAKER_00: But we know biblically that there are some people who are sick, not because of a fallen world or because people get disease.
- 10:42SPEAKER_00: It was a spiritual attack and it needed a spiritual solution.
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: And so we talked about what it means, man.
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: Again, Jesus has been given the name above every name.
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: And at that name, every knee bows, not just human knees, spiritual needs, demonic knees.
- 10:56SPEAKER_00: They bow, which means they submit.
- 10:58SPEAKER_00: So if you find yourself in a spiritual battle and you're fighting that in your own strength, you're gonna lose.
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: But when you come in the authority of the name of Jesus, there is victory every single time.
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: And you know, um, learning to really walk in that and practice that might feel odd, but I think it's one of the most powerful things you can do.
- 11:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and it's I think I think the shift that maybe helps not feel as charismatic for me, which I believe in it charismatically, but if you if you're not coming from that lens, it's almost a way of also invoking Jesus's power and grace instead of my own.
- 11:34SPEAKER_01: It's kind of almost like passing over that ownership of like, I actually can't do this on my own.
- 11:40SPEAKER_01: It's just not about my practice of prayer and my scripture reading, and so I can overcome this with the right discipline or the right practice, but it's actually handing over the authority to go, like, I actually don't have power over this.
- 11:52SPEAKER_01: Only Jesus has the power over this thing.
- 11:55SPEAKER_01: And so I'm I'm invoking his power, not something that's within myself.
- 12:00SPEAKER_01: And so I think even that kind of mentality of it, instead of like, you know, I think we've all known that people are like, in the name of Jesus, get me a parking spot.
- 12:09SPEAKER_01: You know, like, I don't think you should be using the authority of Jesus to like just make your life easier, but like actually an acknowledgement of the fact that Jesus has to intervene if something's gonna change, because it's not gonna change with what I can do in this physical world.
- 12:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:24SPEAKER_01: And I think that's kind of the mentality of it as well.
- 12:27SPEAKER_00: I I would hope that you know people start to practice this and they would be as shocked as the 70 disciples that Jesus sent out were shocked.
- 12:34SPEAKER_00: So, you know, you know, the story Jesus sends out 70 disciples and said, Hey, go go preach the kingdom, go heal the sick.
- 12:40SPEAKER_00: And they come back, and here's the picture the Bible paints is like it's this group of 70, like they're coming from all areas and like they're they're grouping to one to come to Jesus.
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: And that man, you can tell, man, they're fired up, they're they're laughing, they're yucking it up, they're they're excited.
- 12:54SPEAKER_00: And as you hear their conversation, they come to Jesus, they're like, Jesus, man, we did what you told us to do.
- 12:59SPEAKER_00: We preached and people repented, we prayed and people got healed.
- 13:03SPEAKER_00: And then they say this and even the demons were subject to us in your name.
- 13:08SPEAKER_00: Like they realized there was power in the name of Jesus.
- 13:10SPEAKER_00: And when they came across somebody who was demon-possessed, what did they use?
- 13:14SPEAKER_00: They didn't use their own power, they didn't use earthly wisdom, they didn't use a self-help book.
- 13:18SPEAKER_00: They used the authority in the name of Jesus.
- 13:20SPEAKER_00: And they said, Man, we use that name, demons came out.
- 13:24SPEAKER_00: And I just think I want out of this message, out of this series, for people to practice what might feel strange, to walk into what might feel uncomfortable.
- 13:34SPEAKER_00: Um someone said this to me the next day, and and I won't put them on the spot if they if they hear this, but they're like, Yeah, I love the part where you said use the name of God.
- 13:42SPEAKER_00: And I was like, No, it's not that, it's it's the name of Jesus.
- 13:46SPEAKER_00: God is a generic term to describe our creator, but his son's name is Jesus, and it is in that name that demons tremble.
- 13:55SPEAKER_00: It is in that name, Jesus, that we have authority, and so it's not just in the name of God, it is specifically in the name of Jesus.
- 14:02SPEAKER_00: And so man, I want people to I want people to start walking in that and and feel strongholds break.
- 14:08SPEAKER_00: Feel dark, depressing moments, flee.
- 14:12SPEAKER_00: Feel um oppression and blockage, like whatever it is that they're feeling, sensing, walking, and experiencing this is not from God, for them to use the name in the name of Jesus.
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: I rebuke this, I stand against this in the name of Jesus.
- 14:27SPEAKER_00: And for them to walk like the decide and be like, Man, Pastor Austin, you're not gonna believe it.
- 14:31SPEAKER_00: It works.
- 14:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, exactly.
- 14:33SPEAKER_01: Like, man, I want them to experience that so bad.
- 14:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think I think that's like really true, especially like with the name of Jesus.
- 14:42SPEAKER_01: Like, that's that's the whole point is the authorities in his name because he was the one who died and rose again.
- 14:47SPEAKER_01: He's the one that defeated death, he's the one who lived the perfect life.
- 14:50SPEAKER_01: Like he and and the word says, like, he has been given all authority in heaven and on earth.
- 14:56SPEAKER_01: Like that's that's how the Trinity works is Jesus became that authority figure to defeat sin and death.
- 15:03SPEAKER_01: And and so that's the power is in that name, yeah, because of what he did.
- 15:08SPEAKER_00: So a conversation I didn't have time to get into that I want to lean into today for a few minutes is a story found in the book of Acts.
- 15:14SPEAKER_00: So the book of Acts is the history of the church after the resurrection of Jesus for about the next 40 years or so, about the church being established, about a lot of Paul traveling and setting up churches and putting leadership in place and watching God really multiply believers and it's an amazing book.
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: But one of the things they did is they went out, they did what Jesus did.
- 15:35SPEAKER_00: They preached the gospel, they healed the sick, and they cast out devils.
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: And um so well, here's what I want to talk about is the name of Jesus, is that like a magic charm?
- 15:45SPEAKER_00: Can anybody use it?
- 15:46SPEAKER_00: Can anybody just say, well, you know, can can Muslims, can atheists, can is that the magic key everybody gets to use?
- 15:52SPEAKER_00: Hey, I get to say in the name of Jesus, you know, because there's power in that name.
- 15:57SPEAKER_00: But what we find out in this story, and it's again, it's a it's such a cool story, is the Bible tells us that Paul and Peter, they're out using this name, specifically Paul, and it gets back to these groups of people who that we see in different environments in our communities, and you know, um, people that read palms and read horoscopes, and you know, there are all these different healers you can go to that'll deal with your chakra and you know, will wave wave smoke over you, and you know, there's lots of different healing methods in our society, yeah, but only ones from God.
- 16:29SPEAKER_00: And so there were different shops set up.
- 16:31SPEAKER_00: Hey, if you got a demon problem, a ghostbuster problem, call us and we can come in and we can deal with your demonic problem.
- 16:37SPEAKER_00: And they would use all kinds of things that they were raised in, all kinds of societal things, all kinds of cultural things.
- 16:44SPEAKER_00: Um well, they figured out, hey, this name of Jesus, this name of Jesus deal seems to really it's working for Paul.
- 16:51SPEAKER_00: And so different groups started to just use the name of Jesus amongst all the other tools and implements they had.
- 16:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they started throwing in the name of Jesus and it went sideways quick.
- 17:01SPEAKER_00: You know the story, right?
- 17:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: So they come across, the Bible says there's these guys, there's seven sons of Skeva.
- 17:07SPEAKER_00: So this guy, Skeva, probably his last name.
- 17:10SPEAKER_00: He had seven sons, and they were in the family exorcism business.
- 17:14SPEAKER_00: And they hear about the name of Jesus, and they come across this demoniac and they're like, Hey, in the name of Jesus, we cast you out.
- 17:19SPEAKER_00: And this demon, this is so cool, speaks out of this guy and says this, hey, we know Jesus and we know Paul, but who are you?
- 17:28SPEAKER_00: And then the Bible says in the very next verse that this one man jumps on these seven brothers and basically beats them up, rips the clothes off of them, and sends them fleeing out of this house naked, which makes you ask, well, wait a minute, I thought there was authority in the name of Jesus.
- 17:41SPEAKER_00: And you find out that this is there's a very important component, that the name of Jesus, there's authority in it, and anybody can use it, but it doesn't work for everybody.
- 17:51SPEAKER_00: It only works for those who are connected to Christ, who are in a relationship with Jesus.
- 17:55SPEAKER_00: Not everybody gets to use the name, only those who know the one behind the name.
- 17:59SPEAKER_00: I said it this way Sunday.
- 18:01SPEAKER_00: You have to know the person behind the name to use the power behind the name.
- 18:04SPEAKER_00: And um, so I just want to kind of lean into that conversation.
- 18:08SPEAKER_00: You know, I think we live in a world that people are desperate and will try anything.
- 18:11SPEAKER_00: And Jesus wants to be found by desperate people, but you just don't get to toss his name around as a trinket or as a get out of jail free card.
- 18:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I think I think that's kind of that that idea of that shift of like, are you actually believing that Jesus is the one with the authority?
- 18:30SPEAKER_01: Or do you just think this is another way to get what I'm trying to get to?
- 18:34SPEAKER_01: It's like, oh yeah, I tried, I tried sage and it didn't work.
- 18:39SPEAKER_01: I tried crystals, I tried homeopathic.
- 18:41SPEAKER_01: So I guess I'll just try the name of Jesus now.
- 18:43SPEAKER_01: And it's like, well, are you actually acknowledging and believing in his authority over this ailment, or in that case, in over this demon, or are you believing in your use of this thing to make something happen?
- 18:57SPEAKER_01: I think I think that's an example of Jesus protecting himself from being something that we use transactionally instead of relationally.
- 19:07SPEAKER_01: Like he's going, this isn't I this isn't just like uh I I died and rose again so that you guys could use this along with like making sure you hit your electrolytes and creatine.
- 19:19SPEAKER_01: Like it's a little bit more than that.
- 19:21SPEAKER_01: It's like this isn't just a tool, this is a a relational type thing.
- 19:24SPEAKER_01: And Paul has my authority because he submitted to me.
- 19:28SPEAKER_01: And they were trying to use the authority without the submission to him.
- 19:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 19:32SPEAKER_00: That yeah, man, we we walk around like with a deck of get out of jail free cards.
- 19:36SPEAKER_00: Like we send, we you know, use the Jesus card.
- 19:38SPEAKER_00: If you need help, use the Jesus card.
- 19:40SPEAKER_00: If you, you know, you feel an attack in your life, you may not use a spiritual attack, but just use the Jesus card.
- 19:45SPEAKER_00: And it doesn't start with using the Jesus card, it starts with having a relationship with the God who loves you, who manifests himself through his son Jesus.
- 19:52SPEAKER_00: And when you start there, that gives you, I'm gonna show you this in scripture in a minute, that's what gives us permission and gives us the right to use the name of Jesus.
- 20:01SPEAKER_00: So the point is made when the demon speaks and says, Hey, wait a minute, you're using the name of Jesus, but I don't recognize you.
- 20:08SPEAKER_00: He says, Jesus I know and Paul I know.
- 20:10SPEAKER_00: And the word know are different in both cases.
- 20:13SPEAKER_00: The first word when he says Jesus I know is the word, the Greek words Genoska, which means to know experientially.
- 20:19SPEAKER_00: It's kind of the same if you know someone intimately, if you know someone personally, like that's the word you use here.
- 20:25SPEAKER_00: And so so Jesus is the Lord of heaven and earth, he is God in flesh.
- 20:30SPEAKER_00: So every demon knows who Jesus is.
- 20:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 20:33SPEAKER_00: So like we totally know who Jesus is.
- 20:34SPEAKER_00: You're the name you're trying to use, we know who you're talking about.
- 20:37SPEAKER_00: And he says Paul, we know, and it's a different Greek word, and it's kind of information.
- 20:42SPEAKER_00: So basically, you kind of get the reputation a lot.
- 20:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like yeah, yeah.
- 20:45SPEAKER_00: The name, they may not know per Paul personally, these demons and this man, but that the word is out.
- 20:51SPEAKER_00: Like he knows Jesus.
- 20:52SPEAKER_00: So we know Jesus experientially, and we got the information.
- 20:56SPEAKER_00: The word on the street is Paul knows Jesus, but we don't know you because you don't know Jesus.
- 21:02SPEAKER_00: And so you have no right, there's no power in you using the name because you're not connected to the name.
- 21:08SPEAKER_00: And so my my my concern is as we're talking about spiritual warfare, my heart is people are being convinced, yeah, man, I'm in a battle, and these are the solutions.
- 21:17SPEAKER_00: But my concern is they're gonna try Jesus, they're gonna try using the name of Jesus, and they've not really given their heart to the Lord yet.
- 21:23SPEAKER_00: They're not really in relationship with Christ.
- 21:25SPEAKER_00: So people got to take that first step and first submit their heart before the devil will submit to them in the name of Jesus.
- 21:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I I think that's such a such an interesting because even when they use the name of Jesus, they're like, in the name of Jesus, who Paul preaches.
- 21:41SPEAKER_01: So they were even almost removing themselves, like they're like, hey, we've heard about this that like it was like they removed themselves another step, like, hey, this guy we know knows somebody.
- 21:53SPEAKER_01: Like, yeah, it'd kind of be like trying to like call your buddy's buddy to fight a fight for you.
- 21:58SPEAKER_01: Like, well, he isn't here.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: He didn't we know who he is and we're afraid of him, but like he's not here.
- 22:05SPEAKER_01: So what are you talking about?
- 22:06SPEAKER_01: And I think it's kind of that energy as they're like, well, Jesus ain't here, so I don't know why you're saying his name.
- 22:12SPEAKER_00: Like Yeah.
- 22:14SPEAKER_00: I'll give I'll give the backside of it that I think will help maybe people understand what's going on here.
- 22:18SPEAKER_00: So again, he said they say, Jesus, I know, Jesus I have experience with, and Paul, I have information about.
- 22:25SPEAKER_00: Um, this same word of knowing is used when remember when Jesus Jesus says, Hey, there's gonna be people in the last day, you know, people that stand before him that say, Hey Lord, Lord, we we prophesied in your name, we cast out devils in your name, and he's gonna say, Depart from me, what I never knew you.
- 22:42SPEAKER_00: And the word new there is really interesting because first of all, God's saying, I didn't know you.
- 22:46SPEAKER_00: Well, God's omniscient.
- 22:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 22:49SPEAKER_00: God knows everything.
- 22:50SPEAKER_00: Well, the word used there is not information.
- 22:52SPEAKER_00: God has all the information on Austin Young, he has all the information on Steve Husky.
- 22:57SPEAKER_00: What Jesus is saying is he's gonna say to people, I never knew you intimately.
- 23:01SPEAKER_00: I never knew you experientially, like, because you didn't allow me to be in relationship with you.
- 23:06SPEAKER_00: God knows us, he knows our innermost being, he knows everything there is to know about us, but he can only know us on an intimate level if we decide to engage him in relationships.
- 23:14SPEAKER_00: So it's the same thing, like if you come into a relationship with Christ, not only do you get to go to heaven, but right now a relationship with Jesus changes everything.
- 23:23SPEAKER_00: And all of a sudden, you have really you find life and you find joy and you find meaning and you find purpose.
- 23:29SPEAKER_00: And when you're fighting for your life against the devil who wants to destroy you, you have backing of the authority of heaven found in the name of Jesus.
- 23:37SPEAKER_00: And so I just would challenge people stop playing religious games.
- 23:40SPEAKER_00: Don't miss out on who God wants you to be and what God wants to do in your life, and more importantly, that you're not alone in the greatest fight that you're in.
- 23:47SPEAKER_00: And it's with the devil who is real, who does hate you, who wants to destroy you, who wants to like you can give all the adverbs of things he wants to do.
- 23:55SPEAKER_00: Um, but you can go back and I'll time one more story.
- 23:58SPEAKER_00: It's the uh story of the prodigal son.
- 24:00SPEAKER_00: So we know that story, he goes off and he leaves the father's house, goes off in prodigal living, decides he comes to himself, realizes he's made a mess of his life, and decides he wants to come home.
- 24:10SPEAKER_00: He's prepared the script in his mind hey, when I get there, I'm gonna tell God how sorry I am, I'm gonna tell the father how sorry I'm and I'll I'll serve you.
- 24:16SPEAKER_00: And uh here's what I want to read.
- 24:18SPEAKER_00: This is this is great.
- 24:19SPEAKER_00: This is in um, it's in Luke chapter 15.
- 24:22SPEAKER_00: It says, But the father said to his servants, bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet, and bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us eat and be merry.
- 24:32SPEAKER_00: For my son who is dead is alive again.
- 24:35SPEAKER_00: He was lost and he's found.
- 24:36SPEAKER_00: And I just want to tie all this together.
- 24:38SPEAKER_00: He's saying, like, hey, when he was away from me, disconnected, he was spiritually dead.
- 24:42SPEAKER_00: That's what we are because of our sin.
- 24:43SPEAKER_00: We're spiritually dead.
- 24:44SPEAKER_00: And we come to Jesus, when we come back to the Father with a repentant heart, he causes us to come alive again.
- 24:50SPEAKER_00: He resurrects us from the dead, he gives us spiritual life.
- 24:53SPEAKER_00: But what I want you to see here is the first thing he says is put a ring on his finger.
- 24:57SPEAKER_00: Well, a ring at this time was a signet ring, which gave the son, a son, basically the opportunity to operate in the name of the father.
- 25:05SPEAKER_00: So if you had business, if your dad had business, you had a ring, which means you could charge the account, you could purchase things on the ring.
- 25:12SPEAKER_00: So the very first thing you get when you come to God, whether you recognize it or not, is authority to operate in his name.
- 25:18SPEAKER_00: You can do kingdom business on his behalf, and that's spiritual battle.
- 25:22SPEAKER_00: So everybody's in everybody listen to this man.
- 25:24SPEAKER_00: You're in a spiritual fight.
- 25:25SPEAKER_00: I what I want them to know is they have authority, but you got to be bold enough and brave enough and in a relationship enough to use that name and speak boldly in the name of Jesus.
- 25:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 25:37SPEAKER_01: I mean, that's so good.
- 25:38SPEAKER_01: I think it's it's that acknowledgement and ultimately, ultimately that submission to Jesus as Lord, as Savior, as the one with authority.
- 25:50SPEAKER_01: And then based on that submission, he lifts us up and gives us the authority to then live in that new life that he's brought us to.
- 25:58SPEAKER_01: But it takes that first step of of coming to him repentant, coming to him acknowledging that he's the one with the authority, and then he immediately invites us to operate in it and to be a part of you know, living in that freedom.
- 26:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 26:16SPEAKER_00: So we'll close with this.
- 26:17SPEAKER_00: And going back to Luke, where the 70 disciples come back, Jesus says, uh, he says, Behold, I've given you all authority over all the power of the enemy.
- 26:24SPEAKER_00: And there is a difference between power and authority.
- 26:27SPEAKER_00: And I want to be clear, we don't have power.
- 26:29SPEAKER_00: God has power.
- 26:30SPEAKER_00: We have authority.
- 26:31SPEAKER_00: What authority is, authority is the right to access, access or walk in someone else's power.
- 26:38SPEAKER_00: So it'd be like this.
- 26:39SPEAKER_00: This is from an old book, Josh McDowell.
- 26:41SPEAKER_00: I remember reading this years ago.
- 26:43SPEAKER_00: He talked about like a 16-lane highway down, I think in Buenos Aires IRAs is uh I think where it was at.
- 26:50SPEAKER_00: But he said, in the middle of this crazy traffic, man, cars going both ways.
- 26:54SPEAKER_00: That there was one police officer standing in the middle, basically directing traffic.
- 26:59SPEAKER_00: And he asked this question, he said, he said, Does that police officer have the power to stop a car?
- 27:04SPEAKER_00: Absolutely not.
- 27:05SPEAKER_00: If a car wants to go, it's gonna go.
- 27:07SPEAKER_00: But what that police officer has when he calls them cars to stop and they stop is that he has authority.
- 27:12SPEAKER_00: He has the power of the state on his side to make those cars stop.
- 27:15SPEAKER_00: He physically can't stop them, but he has authority, which means he's operating in the power of the state.
- 27:20SPEAKER_00: We don't have power to stop the enemy.
- 27:21SPEAKER_00: We have authority in the name of Jesus.
- 27:23SPEAKER_00: We get the backing of our Heavenly Father to stand against our spiritual enemy.
- 27:28SPEAKER_00: So, hey, I always want to encourage you, man, to be a person who has a knowledge of the word, get back into the word of God, know the truth of who God is and who you are.
- 27:36SPEAKER_00: Um, be a person that practices prayer, lean into and trust and rely on your heavenly father in a personal relationship, and then start accessing the power in the name of Jesus.
- 27:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 27:46unknown: Yeah.
- 27:46SPEAKER_00: That's great.
- 27:47SPEAKER_00: Well, thanks for joining us for the extra mile.
- 27:48SPEAKER_00: We'll see you guys next week for the final week in this series The Art of War.
- 27:51SPEAKER_00: Thanks again, Pastor Austin.
- 27:53SPEAKER_00: Yep.
